Athena is one of the Lords of Kobol worshipped by modern-day Colonials.

Athena died long ago, throwing herself from the Gates of Hera in despair over the exodus of the thirteen tribes (Home, Part II). Her tomb lies on Kobol some distance from the City of the Gods (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I). When Sharon Agathon is given a callsign by her fellow pilots to differentiate her from her predecessor, Sharon "Boomer" Valerii, the name settled on is Athena in honor of the Lord of Kobol (Torn).

Greek Mythology[edit]

In Greek mythology, Athena is the daughter of Zeus who sprang from his forehead as a full grown adult in armour, the result of Zeus having turned her mother into a fly and swallowing her immediately after bedding her. She is the goddess of the city, handicrafts and agriculture and fierce in battle – but will only fight to protect the state and home from outside enemies. The favourite of Zeus’ offspring, a virgin goddess imbued with wisdom, reason, and purity.

Possible Parallel[edit]

Athena was the protector of the state and home. Kobol was subject to a cataclysmic event that forced its people to leave in a mass exodus. Did Athena try to protect Kobol?
