Overview
Following the end of thxe Cylon War, the Cylons withdrew from Colonial space to a planet of their own. For some 40 years, nothing was heard of them, and no apparent attempt was made by the Colonials to keep an eye on them. The only contact expected between the two was at annual meetings at Armistice Station. However, while the Colonials sent a repesentative to the station every year, the Cylons did not (Miniseries).

During their forty years of isolation, the Cylons developed or evolved a humanoid form that is indistinguishable with the human form, down to the cellular level, but not completely at a molecular level. These Cylon agents name have the capacity to emulate many human physical acts, including sex, as demonstrated by the Number Six and Sharon Valerii models. Cylon agents can also convincingly emulate or display human personalities. In fact, they do this even when interacting with other Cylons outside of Colonial scrutiny. The majority of the Cylons follow a monotheistic religion (with exceptions such as Brother Cavil, presuming that he was honest).

Cylon agents can be programmed to believe that they are truly human. These are known as 'sleeper agents'. Sleeper agents appear to have a low-level Cylon personality that can conduct operations while placing the human sleeper personality "on-hold". The first copy of Sharon Valerii, known by her callsign of "Boomer" on battlestar Galactica, had little awareness of her true nature until her arrest for the attempted assassination of William Adama (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II). This sleeper agent conducted or aided in sabotage operations within the Fleet ("Water", "Litmus"). Most agent copies, particularly Numbers Five and Six, imitate human personalities, but are fully aware of their true nature.

Although they cannot do so remotely or wirelessly, Cylon agents can interface with a computer system or computer network through subdermal physical contact with input cables connected to the devices. Caprica-Sharon connected to the Galacticas computers by this method in "Flight of the Phoenix" when she inserted a fiber-optic cable through her left palm and into her arm.

Cylon agent brains are human in appearance, but are apparently still susceptible to damage from certain types of radiation. Upon the death of an agent's body, a Cylon agent transfers its consciousness into another copy of itself. This ability is limited by distance, signal integrity, and proximity to a resurrection node or, in space, a Resurrection Ship (Miniseries, "Flesh and Bone." "Resurrection Ship, Part II"). Based on Caprica Sharon Valerii's conversation with Kara Thrace in the episode, "The Farm," it appears that all Cylon agents may share a collective knowledgebase of data from other active or deactivated Cylon agents. Valerii spoke of a conversation between Thrace and a captured Leoben Conoy copy in the Fleet. This information would only be known to that now-dead Leoben copy if sharing were not possible. Kara Thrace's call sign, Starbuck, was also a likely bit of information gleaned from the collective knowledgebase that Simon knew of the Viper pilot, although Thrace never told him of her call sign and used it to strike back at her abductors (The Farm). Also, during "Flight of the Phoenix," Caprica-Valerii asked Anastasia Dualla if she still carried her pocket knife, a fact which would have been known only to the Galactica copy. When under duress, the copy of Sharon Valerii known as "Boomer" on Galactica was able to tell Gaius Baltar the number of remaining Cylon agent agents in the fleet, information that would be impossible to gather without a collective knowledgebase (Resistance).

Some or all Cylon "female" models may have the capacity to bear children seeded by human males (33, Flesh and Bone, The Hand of God, Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II). The Cylons tested numerous methods of sexual reproduction, yet these failed due to a known flaw in the Cylon agent design. Cylon agents cannot reproduce with each other biologically, and, attempting to subvert this deficiency, they have been trying to interbreed with humans to create hybrid offspring. "Farms" were apparently set up across all the occupied Colonies where survivors, specifically, young fertile women of child-bearing age, were rounded up, placed under heavy sedation and turned into "baby machines" through artificial insemination. However, this method has not met with success. Another drastically different approach was taken by attempting to conceive a child through a bond of love. It seems that Helo and Sharon Valerii's love-child is the lone success story of the relatively short history of Cylon sexual reproduction (The Farm).

Known Cylon Agent Models
There are twelve models of Cylon agents (Miniseries), representing twelve archetypes the Cylons have witnessed in humanity. Thus far, seven models have been revealed to viewers as Cylon agentsdossier. However, only six models are actually known to the Colonial characters as agents as of the episode, "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II." Of each model there are many copies, probably tens or hundreds of thousands. Each Cylon agent has the same face, stature, hair, eye & skin color, gender, etc. as all the others of his or her model. The copies apparently start out with the same basic personality, but grow more distinct due to their individual experiences.

Number Three
This model was witnessed by viewers posing as a reporter from the Fleet News Service and was revealed to be a Cylon at the end of "Final Cut" when a second copy was shown living on Caprica. Of all the Cylon agent models revealed to viewers, the Colonials are not yet aware that D'anna Biers is a Cylon agent as of the season two finale, "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II"

Part of Biers' mission within Galactica's fleet (which fits her work as a journalist) likely involves the relay of important intelligence within the Fleet, such as the status of the pregnant Caprica copy of Sharon Valerii.

This model's status as a Cylon is currently unknown to the Colonials, except for Samuel Anders.

A copy of this model has appeared under the name/alias "D'anna Biers".

Number Five
This model attempts to sow the seeds of discontent or confusion, particularly during crucial life-threatening situations, and endeavors to undermine authority that threatens his objectives. (Miniseries) Doral models are more covert, assuming an ordinary "everyman" appearance that's blended in what may seem to be insignificant behind-the-scenes issues (such as converting Galactica into a museum). Of all the models thus far, the Aaron Doral models are the most militant, fanatic and consistent in message and objectives to the Cylon objectives, whether he is dispassionately discussing the fate of humanity with his comrades or attempting to kill or maim Colonials in a suicide bomb attack (Litmus). Viewers first meet Doral during a tour of Galactica with other Colonial citizens (possibly the press) as we see the battlestar for the first time at the start of the Miniseries. The viewers aren't sure of Doral's true identity as the second Cylon agent they've seen until the end of the Miniseries, however.

Copies of this model have appeared under the name/alias "Aaron Doral".

A copy of Number Five is seen with Caprica-Six and Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy) at the end of Season 2, and seems to be in command of the others. While Six and Sharon express concern and warning to Baltar and the New Capricans, Five expresses threat.

Number Six
This model utilizes the human need / desire for sexual relations to her advantage. She is religious and monotheistic. She desires to know what it is to be alive. There is something inherently enigmatic about her, more so than with the other models.

Typically she is the alpha female, as demonstrated on multiple occasions (Miniseries, "33," "Water," "Six Degrees of Separation").

Copies of this model have appeared under the names/aliases "Shelly Godfrey" , "Gina", and "Caprica".

Number Eight
The Valerii model is generally a saboteur designed to infiltrate Colonial military units and is likely programmed to use any Colonial munitions to cause havoc (Water). The Valerii model is the closest witnessed Cylon agent model to show its abilities as a soldier. This model has shown naiveté in many matters. She is apparently not as religious as other Cylon models, but has demonstrated that she can love, and is capable of being impregnated by a human ("Six Degrees of Separation," "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II"). She may be "defective", as the Cylon programming within the sleeper agent known as "Boomer" on Galactica conflicted multiple times with its human personality (Water). Also, the fully aware Sharon Valerii found by Helo on Caprica has fully switched alliances from Cylon to Colonial after falling in love with Helo and is now aiding the Colonials (several episodes, most notably "Flight of the Phoenix"). Valerii is the third Cylon agent introduced during the Miniseries. However, viewers do not discover her true identity until the very end of the Miniseries when a second copy appears at Ragnar Anchorage while retrieving the abandoned copy of Aaron Doral.

Copies of this model have appeared under the name "Sharon Valerii".

Leoben Conoy
Leoben Conoy was the fourth model witnessed by viewers (although viewers would not know until the end of the Miniseries that they had already met the third Cylon agent, Sharon Valerii). The Conoy model has shown to be religiously oriented, using dogma and intermixing truth with falsehoods. It was first discovered on Ragnar Station, claiming to be a scavenger / arms dealer (Miniseries).

He can be likened to the serpent of the Genesis tale in the Earth Christian Bible, taunting people with knowledge then watching as the negative consequences come into devastating fruition. Leoben copies have likely been encountered by the Caprica Resistance movement, as Samuel Anders recites in jest some comments made by another Leoben copy captured in the Fleet ("Flesh and Bone," "The Farm").

Simon
The Simon model was encountered by Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on Cylon-occupied Caprica. Posing as a doctor, Simon was actually involved with the Cylon hybridization program. Simon resembles a tall, somewhat thin middle-aged black man who speaks in a comforting strong voice (The Farm) Unlike other models, Simon doesn't seem to have many military aspects to his physical or mental configuration, and was easily overcome by a wounded Thrace. Simon may be a model based primarily on human intellectualism.

Cavil
Brother Cavil provided council to Chief Tyrol after his maddened attack against Cally. Despite his disdain in prayer and religous pomp and circumstance (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I), Cavil went through a prayer session with Laura Roslin, the latter apparently hoping that prayer would aid her success in the elections. Another copy of Cavil was seen on Caprica, informing the SAR team some 18 hours after the Cylons ceased their attack that the Cylons had left the Colonies. When the Caprica SAR team returned to Galactica, Tyrol recognized and identified him as a Cylon agent. For a priest, and especially for a Cylon, he displays an utter disdain for religion, both the human belief in many gods and the Cylon faith in a one true god.

Caprica-Cavil alleges that he was sent to Galactica as a messenger of peace. He relayed what occurred after Caprica-Six and Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy) were rescued from the wreckage of the cafe bombing ("Downloaded"). That they had used their new found celebrity to voice what many in the Cylon population felt themselves... The Cylon annihilation of the human race and occupation of the Twelve Colonies was wrong. Caprica-Cavil told Admiral Adama and President Roslin that the Cylons would go their own way, and leave the Fleet alone.

This ended up not being true — whether or not the Cavils intentionally lied is a fact that remains unknown (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II).

Interestingly, the Fleet copy of Cavil claimed, in conversation with Tyrol, that he had been preaching longer than Tyrol had been "sucking down oxygen." (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I). Thus, if Cavil was being truthful and assuming Tyrol is roughly thirty years old, Cavil has been operational for at least that long. This would mean that the Cylon agents began to come into existence no later than approximately ten years after the end of the First Cylon War, which ended approximately forty years prior to the beginning of the series. Whether Cavil was being truthful, of course, is currently unknown.

Ron Moore elaborates on the twelve models
In a 10/24/05 interview on "The Chase Show" on the SF webcast news site TheFandom.com with veteran "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" actress Chase Masterson, Ron D. Moore is interviewed and directly answers two key questions in the Twelve Models debate and the origin of Sharon Valerii in particular. Here is a transcription of that interview segment.

:Chase: ... I just have to ask something... is there one Boomer that's just human?
:Ron: No, there's not. I mean, the idea is not there was one like an original human model that they were copied from. The idea was that these were... these models of Cylon were developed out of their own study of us. The Cylons on some level looked at humanity and said, "Well, you know what, there's really only twelve of you... and these are the twelve." And then if you look at them, they kind of represent different archetypes of what humanity is. Um, Sharon, in particular &mdash; Sharon-Boomer, went through quite a trans-metamorphosis because in the original Miniseries script, in the first draft, she wasn't a Cylon at all. She was going to be just &mdash; I wrote her just &mdash; I wanted a youngish pilot, who was the rookie, who was sort of vulnerable in ways, who made mistakes in ways that you're not used to seeing your heroes on TV shows do, and I was really interested in this idea of the officer, the female officer in love with the male deck chief in violation of all the rules and I kinda thought, going forward, that she and the chief, in combination with Boxey, who's really only in the Miniseries and one or two other episodes, would form sort of our family unit, that that was kind of a family...
:Chase: OK...
:Ron: ... and actually, after that first draft was written, it was David Eick, my producing partner, who said, "You know what, if at the end of this thing, at the very end when all the Cylons walk into Armistice &mdash; into the Ragnar station at the end... if you turn around and Sharon is one of the Cylons, he said, we're definitely gonna get picked up for a series.
:Chase: (laughs) OK... that did make... that really did seal the deal...
:Ron: ... and I just really went... that's a great idea and I realized that, because I'd had laid... I had written a story straight, I really hadn't cheated. There was no hint of who Sharon might be, and it really did suck you in, and really sort of, you believed her as a person first, and then we revealed her as a Cylon.
:Chase: ... Right....
:Ron: ... And so what happened after that was, I assumed going into the first season &mdash; well I didn't assume, I just planned... to slowly, over the course of the first year, peel back the layers &mdash; that Sharon would only start to sort of discover her Cylon nature by the end of the first year.
:Chase: Oh, God... and it was heartbreaking, watching that unfold, because I loved her much as human, and she was just adorable, with him and then with the kid, it was like, oh, what a great girl, she's um... you know, young and cute, and &mdash; who's the actress &mdash; and that whole thing, and then you're like, WHAT?
:Ron: Yeah...
:Chase: ... She's the enemy...
:Ron: I know then, she's the enemy, then she's the one that is your most worry, what's she gonna do next.
:Chase: Yeah. You really took us on quite a journey there. I was still hoping for a human one running around somewhere, but no, huh?....
:Ron: No.
:Chase: Oh, well...

With this information from the show's main creative leader, it is established as canon that:

* There are precisely twelve human Cylon models. The other varieties of Cylon spacecraft or fighters are not factored into this count of 12 models.
* Sharon Valerii was never an actual human, and neither were the other Cylon agent models.
* The twelve models are based on on archetypes determined by the Cylons that form what they perceive were the specific kinds of human behavior and/or personality, distilled into twelve varieties.

Notes
#nameViewers initially lacked an authentic term to call the humanoid Cylons during season 1 of the series. Here on the Battlestar Wiki, the descriptive term "Humano-Cylon" was used for a time. Dialogue in several episodes throughout season 2 have consistently used "Cylon agent" to describe the humanoid Cylons. Other names are also used, such as "humanoid-Cylons" (which Tricia Helfer often uses in interviews, but apparently more for convenience than an official name), or "Bio-Cylons" which is sometimes used derisively by fans of the Original Series.
#*Some of the resistance fighters on Caprica refer to the Cylon agents as "Skin Jobs," a script reference to Blade Runner.
#dossierThe term "Known Cylon agents" is shown on a dossier on the models shown on Laura Roslin's desk on Colonial One in the episode "Epiphanies."

Troyano:

Mankind started it's existence somewhere far out amongst the stars, on a planet known as Kobol, where thirteen tribes of man lived in prosperity for many millennium. Unfortunately, man started overusing the resources of the planet and Kobol's sun began to die. The scientists of Kobol knew this, and informed the Lord of Kobol. He decided that his people must go out, amongst the stars, and escape to start new homeworlds, colonies of Kobol. Twelve of the Tribes set out immediately, they soon got lost in an endless black sea, a void, where no stars shone, and no planets existed. Soon though, a lone star shown through the void, and led the twelve tribes to a star system with 12 Planets, and two Suns. The final tribe, the thirteenth tribe, set out just prior to the final days of Kobol. After the thirteenth tribe left, very few people were still on Kobol, only the Last Lord of Kobol, and a few required people to make sure the Lord was placed in his tomb.

The Thirteenth Tribe was never heard from again outside of rumors that they founded a colony, on a blue-green planet, called Earth. The Twelve Tribes that found the Cyranus System, each settled on a different planet, and started to rebuild. They set up a Government in the form of a Democracy. Twelve elected officials, one from each of the tribes or Colonies, with one of the twelve elected as President of the Council. The people of the Colonies, while retaining knowledge of intra system travel, soon lost the knowledge to fly from Star System to Star System.

While they struggled to build their Colonies up, somewhere, far across the universe, another civilization was making it's own strides forward into space. This was a humanoid lizard-like race that called themselves Cylons. Cylons, feeling themselves superior to all other races they came across, created a vast war machine, made stronger by great strides in cybernetic systems, artificial intelligence, advanced weapons and propulsion systems. The Cylons made duplicates of themselves as robots, and gave their artificial progeny artificial brains. The new Centurions had no desires outside of what was programmed into them:

1. Advancement of Cylon principle

2. Destruction of all non-perfect races

3. Total domination of the universe

While lacking in individual initiative, these Centurions were soon functioning in every capacity, with the exception of leadership, which was changed when the IL Series Robot was perfected. The IL series was given three brains to help them process the information they received. They were programmed to become the Imperious Leader of Cylon. While there are many IL series robots at any given time, all of the ones selected to become Imperious Leader undergo minor changes in appearance and their sound emitters, so that all Imperious Leaders sound like the one before them. The true Cylons soon started to die and they were hidden by the Imperious Leaders, kept as a myth for the robots that took the name of Cylon. The Cylons went from a natural life form to a race of cybernetic machines over the course of a millennium and a half.

During this time, Man had rediscovered the means to travel between Star Systems, thanks to the work of Marron. Marron was born on Caprica, one of the twelve Colonies. She studied for many yahren to be a spacecraft designer and engineer. When she started working on a new engine that could approach light speed, she discovered a rare fuel source, Solium. Her engine was tested, and the prototype blew up, injuring Marron and killing her husband. When Marron recovered, she was determined to discover her mistake. Thirty yahrens were devoted to this sole purpose, but no one could find a fault in her design; however each time the engine was fueled with Solium, it exploded. Marron continued trying different processes to purify the Solium and one day, just prior to her 60th Birthday, made a breakthrough. She learned that Solium, after being exposed to a rigorous refining process, would change its composition and become what she called Tylium, in memory of her husband, Tylen. The next day she tried the Tylium in her latest engine prototype. Marron launched from the surface of Caprica, set a heading for the most distant Colony from her, and dialed in the new engine specs. Her ship shot forward, made a streak across the sky, and in little more than a centar, she was at her destination, a trip would have normally taken sectons. Mankind was once again capable of traveling through the stars.

Needless to say, it didn't take long for the Cylons and Humans to make first contact with one another. At first, the Cylons didn't see the Humans as a threat to their perfect order of the Universe, so they left the Humans and their Colonies alone. Soon however, the Cylons moved against the Colonies closest neighbors, humanoid felines called Hassari. The Humans went to the aid of the Hassari, helping them win their planet back from the Cylons. This enraged the Cylons, and they struck out at every Human ship they ran across, merchant ships being a favored target. Very few of the ships were able to get messages back to the Colonies about their attackers, so the Humans didn't know the Cylons were behind the losses until a Cylon warship attacked one of the Colonies. Human ships, equipped with the Marron Star Drive, launched from all twelve worlds and proceeded to attack the Cylon ship, destroying it. This was the first battle of a war, that would span a Millennium.

Both the Cylons and Humans poured everything they had into the war, making great advances in weaponry, ships, and in all forms of related technologies. The greatest of the Human discoveries, were the Battlestar and the Viper. Nearly halfway through the war, the built the first of the massive warships known as Battlestars. Pegasus, as the first Battlestar came to be called, was the largest ship ever constructed. She was equipped with more than 30 laser turrets, and a score of fusion missiles. Alone, she could lay siege to an entire planet and with the addition of star fighters, could easily take on three of the largest Cylon warships and survive. Quickly, the Humans built more Battlestars. Galactica, the last to be launched, was built 200 yahren after the Pegasus. This led the Cylons to build their answer to the Battlestar, the evenly matched Basestar. The Basestar had forward guns that were more powerful than anything the humans had fielded, but they were fewer in number. The Cylons introduced new, smaller fighters, the Cylon Raider, that could out fly, outmaneuver, and outgun the Humans Triton Skyfighters. Hard pressed by these new ships, the Humans decided to build a new fighter of their own to counter the Cylon Raiders. One hundred yahren ago, the first of these new fighters, called Vipers, were introduced to the Colonial Fleet. A Viper could outmaneuver the Raider, it was faster than a raider, but it did fall short in firepower. Over the last 100 yahren all the major combatants on both sides have been improved, but no more Battlestars have been constructed.

With the Cylon-Human war reaching almost 1000 yahrens in duration, the Cylon Imperious Leader looked to end the war in one great battle. He sent messages to the Colonies, asking to discuss a peace between the two combatants. The Council was ecstatic, as the people of the Colonies were weary of war. Imperious Leader chose a Human named Baltar to finalize the agreement, convinced that he could seduce Baltar into setting his own race up for total destruction. He was right and Baltar quickly agreed. Soon Baltar went back to the Colonies and the Council ratified the agreement. All that now remained between peace and the Colonies was the signing of a formal treaty. The Humans sent the entire Council, accompanied by the remainder of the Battlestar Fleet to meet with the Cylon Imperious Leader and sign the peace treaty.

Imperious Leader was pleased with his battle plan to attack the Battlestars; victory would come in the form of a two pronged attack, one force of fighters would engage the Battlestars and combined force of Baseships and fighters would attack the Colonies themselves. Fortunately, a patrol launched from the Galactica discovered the hidden Cylon fighters and fled in an attempt to warn the Fleet. The Cylons jammed communication of both craft and set out to destroy the offending Vipers before the attack could be thwarted. Both Colonial pilots used every bit of skill they possessed, but still, one of the Vipers was soon hit. The damaged Viper, unable to keep up, sent the undamaged fighter off to warn the Fleet. The pilot in the intact fighter, a young captain named Apollo, got to the Fleet and went through Decontamination before heading to the Bridge. By the time he got there, it was too late. The damaged Viper, piloted by his younger brother Zac, had been destroyed and the fight for survival had begun in earnest.

The Cylons knew, through intelligence provided by Baltar, that the president and the council were located on the Atlantia and they were determined to strike the first blow squarely upon the council's flagship. This preoccupation with the Atlantia's destruction and the wariness of the Galactica's commander, Adama enabled the rest of the Battlestar fleet to launch squadrons of Vipers and begin to fend off the Cylon onslaught. As the true situation became apparent to even the stubborn mindset of President Adar, he wisely gathered the embarked council members and proceeded with all dispatch to the launch bay where they ran across another council member, Baltar, already in a fast ship, fortuitously ready for escape. Under the cover of the quickly escalating battle raging through space, the council escaped to a secret rendezvous known only to President Adar and the Commanders of each Battlestar. Mere centons after the Council ship escaped into the vastness of space, the mighty Atlantia, largest of the Battlestar fleet, succumbed to the massive attack and vanished in a bright flash of light.

With the loss of the Atlantia, the resolve of the surviving Colonials stiffened immeasurably. With less than 400 Viper fighters pitted against a legion of Cylon Raiders, a hideously beautiful dance of death spread out and enveloped massive areas of space. On board the Pacifica, Commander Ragnar, newly advanced to the position of Fleet Commander after her predecessor's death in the pyre of the Atlantia, gathered the remaining Battlestars together and began a series of lightning slashes against the Raiders in an attempt to draw fire from, and support the vastly outnumbered warriors in their fragile fighters. Fighters twisted through space, seemingly entwined by lethal laser torpedoes, huge Battlestars darting through massed formation of fighters, comm channels filled with cries of triumph and alternately, the chilling screams of those who failed to best the Cylons, the small blossoms of light that indicated yet another brave warrior or remorseless machine leaving the universe; these were the sights that would be forever imprinted on the minds of those who survived.

After several centars of heavy fighting the Raiders began running out of fuel, thereby becoming easy prey to the exhausted, but resupplied Vipers. Although the losses had been horrific, the Colonial fleet emerged victorious and its war leaders were finally able to take stock of the situation. The Atlantia was destroyed, the Pacifica crippled, the supporting units decimated and more than 200 Vipers lost, a heavy price to pay, but a paltry sum in light of the alternative; the annihilation of the life-form known as man.

News reports from Caprica showing the incredible devastation being wrought there, had been flooding in throughout the combat but the hard-pressed Fleet could do nothing without risking the loss of the Colonies only chance at staying alive. Fleet Commander Ragnar, though grievously wounded in the battle, directed the Galactica, Columbia and Solaria to return to the colonies with every available Viper and warship still capable of combat and make every effort to stop the slaughter being rendered upon the helpless people back home. Triton, badly damaged herself, would stay back with the Pacifica and help nurse her home. Ragnar found herself confronted by a terribly choice: Which colonies to try and spare, and which to leave to their own devices. It was decided that the task group would attempt to save what remained of Caprica due to it being the home of the Colonial Military Academy, Sagitara due to its importance in shipbuilding, weapons manufacture and being the seat of the council, and finally Virgo because of its large agricultural base. After a frantic three day voyage back to the colonies, the fleet found itself arriving over a badly savaged Caprica. The scenes from the ground were at first appalling, but then, as the situation grew clearer, hope sprang anew as the Cylons appeared to have been interested in neutralizing the defenses of the planet, and then moving on to repeat the process over another world. Reports from Caprica clearly spelled out to Adama, in command of the task group, that he was facing three fully operational Baseships with full fighter compliments, against which he could field three damaged Battlestars, approximately 30 ships of the line, and only 120 operational Vipers. Enough to prevent the Cylons from returning to Caprica, but not enough to defeat them in battle. For now, only the Colony of Caprica would be saved.

Our story picks up 6 sectars after that terrible battle. The fleet has been somewhat reassembled, Caprica has been hastily rebuilt and plans are being made to attempt to lift the blockades on the other colonies. It is a dark time for the Colonials, but hope is not gone. Not by any stretch of the imagination. Human spirit and determination have salvaged a chance to survive from the very jaws of annihilation. This is the Colonies finest hour. This is your universe.

Soon after Racetrack accidently discovered a habitable planet in the middle of a nebula, Dr. Gaius Baltar and Tom Zarek made permanent settlement on this planet the central issue of Baltar's presidential campaign. Baltar's opponent, President Laura Roslin, refused to sway on her opposition to settling on the planet, knowing that the harsh conditions of the planet as well as the close proxomity to Cylon forces would spell disaster for the human race.

Soon after Baltar's win in the election and inauguration, the Cylon agent Gina detinated a nuclear device within the fleet, destroying Cloud Nine as well as at least two smaller ships. Despite worries from the military that the nuclear attack could indicate a immediate Cylon strike, Baltar orders the fleet to settle on what had become known as New Caprica.

One year later, conditions on New Caprica had severly deteriorated. Most people were still living in tents, medicine was in short supply, and Baltar's government had become corrupt and ineffective. Laura Roslin had taken up teaching at an elementary school in New Caprica City. Admiral William Adama and Commander Lee Adama, commanding the Galactica and Pegasus respectively, continue to orbit New Caprica along with the rest of the fleet to provide defense. However, with many crew members having settled on New Caprica, many of the ships are falling into disrepair and an effective CAP cannot be organized.

380 days after colonization, a Cylon fleet suddenly appeared within the nebula. Commander Lee Adama urges Admiral Adama to order the fleet to jump, saying that they cannot win against the Cylons. Reluctantly, Admiral Adama orders the fleet to jump, saying that they will be back. As waves of Raiders and Heavy Raiders fly over New Caprica City, Caprica-Six, Sharon Valerii, and a Number Five copy enter President Baltar's office. They inform him that they had detected the remains of a nuclear explosion and stumbled upon New Caprica. Faced with no choice, Baltar formally surrenders to the Cylons as waves of Centurions enter New Caprica City as a stunned population looks on and Starbuck vows to resist the occupation.
