This makes sense as, in the Miniseries, Caprica-Six orders Baltar to get down and apparently protects him from the blast. Although not clearly shown, it is clear that she uses her body to shield him somehow (in the novel her neck is broken and there is a lot of damage from the flying debris).

For example, at various times, Boomer is referred to as "Asian", or "Oriental", references meaningless in the Colonies. Sometimes he resorts to descriptive writing such as saying that she has epicanthal folds around her eyes.

*A new scene is added of Commander Adama struggling to walk back from his fight with [[Leoben Conoy]] to the other ''Galactica'' crewmen at the entrance to Ragnar station, and being found just as he collapses<ref>{{cite book/bsg novel 2005|249}}</ref>.

*A new scene is added where [[Billy Keikeya]] gives Roslin advice. *Carver makes referrence to the FX gaffe that when ''Galactica'' jumps away to Ragnar, its flight pods are still extended. Ron Moore acknowledged in his blog that this is an error. *Commander Adama's callsign is stenciled on his old [[Viper Mark II]] as "HUSHER"<ref>{{cite book/bsg novel 2005|30}}</ref>.
**Carver has admitted that this was a mistake, due to his misinterpreting the font style's K for an H. As such, this is corrected in the 2006 mass market edition. {{citation needed}}

*Starbuck refers to Boomer as a "crook" not a "rook", Carver probably misheard the line<ref>{{cite book/bsg novel 2005|34}}</ref>

*[[Gemenon]] is spelled as the non-standard "Geminon".

*Aaron Doral says that the radiation from Ragnar affects their Cylon "neural relays", when in the Miniseries he actually said "[[Silica Pathways|silica relays]]"<ref name="page318">{{cite book/bsg novel 2005|318}}</ref>.

*The dialogue between the humanoid Cylon models on [[Ragnar Anchorage]] is added as well. After a [[Leoben Conoy|Leoben]] says it might take decades to find the fleeing humans, Boomer says "Don't worry, we'll find them...and it won't take ''nearly'' that long". [[Number Six]] also says they must find the humans because "The Mission, the Project, require it": this was probably Carver alluding to the human/Cylon hybridization project which began to be revealed by mid-late season 1 when he was writing the novelization. In interviews Ron Moore has actually confirmed that the Cylons are actively trying to outright destroy ''Galactica'' and the refugee fleet, and have no great need to capture them for their hybridization experiments, as they already have enough captured humans on the occupied [[Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]]. This seems to be educated speculation by Carver <ref name="page318"/>.

His work was interrupted by [[Daniel Graystone|Daniel]] and [[Amanda Graystone]] entering the booth. Although Sal recognized them, he was also aware of a [[Global Defense Department]] alert that the two were wanted on suspicion of terrorism, and attempted to call security, but was attacked and bound. Several minutes later, Sal managed to recover and tried to subdue Daniel from behind, but was struck over the head by Amanda and rendered unconscious. They cannot simply nuke the base, as the radiation would render the tylium inert, so the best plan would be to destroy the containers holding the volatile unrefined tylium precursor. Tigh and Starbuck want Baltar to point out what it is, even though he has no idea what it looks like. In his mind, Baltar asks his virtual Number Six for help, but she tells him it is in God's hands and He will "tell" Baltar where to point. Baltar picks an object in the base, simply as a wild guess (though he doesn't tell the others that). Baltar is terrified, telling Six he didn't hear God's voice, but she reassures him that "God doesn't always speak in ''words''".
* Apollo is concerned that everyone thinks Starbuck is a better pilot than he is and would be better leading the mission. Starbuck cannot fly in the attack, because in the [[Weight Room|weight room]] Commander Adama demonstrates that her knee has not yet fully recovered from its [[You Can't Go Home Again|injury]]. On the hangar deck, Commander Adama encourages Apollo, telling him he thinks Apollo really can pull off this mission, because he is his son.
* The attack is launched, and [[Battle for the Tylium Asteroid|the battle]] commences: civilian mining ships jump in on one side of the Cylon base pretending to be on a survey mission, drawing off some Raiders from the base, while ''Galactica'' jumps in on the other side and launches a squadron of Vipers against it, which are confronted by the base's reserve Raiders. The Raiders sent against the mining ships peel off and advance with the others on ''Galactica''. Everything seems to be going wrong, but then Adama reveals that this was a feint, apparently only he and those directly involved in implementing the plan aware of the real plan.
*A second squadron of Vipers, led by Apollo, launches from inside of the mining ships. While appearing to be merely bait, and dismissed as such by the Cylons, the ships are the real thrust of the attack. With the raiders lured out of position by ''Galactica'', Apollo and his wing have a clear flight to the base.
*Once the Vipers reach the moon, however, things are far from easy: the Cylon base has a formidable anti-air defense system, and the Vipers' missile attack fails as the Cylons are able to jam the missiles' tracking systems.
*In a move of reckless improvisation worthy of Starbuck, Apollo avoids the Cylon defense grid by flying through its tylium mining tunnels to the center of the base, then dropping a pair of explosive charges at the supposed tylium-precursor container.
*Much to Baltar's surprise, his wild guess at which container held the volatile tylium-precursor was correct: as Apollo flies away, the entire base explodes with the force of a 3 kiloton nuclear warhead.

== Analysis ==
*The introduction of the prophesy of [[Pythia]] further link the series' mythology to the ancient Greece of our own planet. In Greek mythology, the Pythia was the priestess at Apollo's oracle in Delphi. The name itself comes from Python, the dragon slain by Apollo. The Pythia operated as a vehicle for Apollo's will to be known to those on earth. A believer would make a sacrifice and present a question to a priest. The priest would then present the question to the Pythia. The Pythia sat on a bronze tripod in the adytum, or inner chamber of Apollo's temple. In this sacred chamber the spirit of Apollo overcame the Pythia and inspired the prophecy.
**Pythia in ancient Greece was the Oracle of Delphi – and on Caprica, Helo and Sharon are making for the religious center of [[Delphi]].
*Following his seeking God’s forgiveness ([[33]]) and his repentance of his sins ([[Six Degrees of Separation]]), Baltar finally becomes God’s "instrument". He literally becomes the hand of God referenced in the episode title: he is the one that points out the target that will destroy the Cylon base.

*[[Colonial Day (holiday)|Colonial Day]], the annual anniversary of the signing of the [[Articles of Colonization]], has arrived. President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] has formed a new [[Quorum of Twelve (RDM)|Quorum of Twelve]], the legislative branch of the Colonial [[Government]], and has decided to have her unveiling of the new Quorum coincide with the patriotic holiday.
*A tension erupts when terrorist/criminal [[Tom Zarek]] wins nomination as [[Sagittaron]] representitive on the Quorum. Roslin feels she cannot remove him, as he won the election fairly (many on Sagittaron view him as a hero of their downtrodden Tribe).
*At the first meeting of the Quorum, Zarek creates a crisis by insisting that the vacant post of Vice President be filled by a special vote of the Quorum, in case anything should happen to Roslin – a move that is surprisingly seconded by [[Gaius Baltar]] (when prodded by Number Six)– Tom Zarek is thereupon nominated as a vice presidential candidate. He has been using his men on the Astral Queen to perform technical favors for several other ships, to the support of several, plus he plays on various dissatisfactions in the refugee fleet.
*Roslin responds by pushing [[Wallace Gray]], a presidential aide, into standing as an alternative candidate.
*Manipulating the [[Colonial Gang|media]], Zarek makes headway in his desire to secure the position as Vice President, while a man named [[Valance]] plots in secret to carry out an assassinate plot against Roslin – possibly orchestrated by Zarek.
*Surprisingly, it is Gaius Baltar who comes to her aid: flashing his pre-attack charisma, he gives an eloquent speech to the media that reminds the people of Roslin’s qualities and Zarek’s questionable background (trying to look supportive of Roslin and look more favorable). Roslin realizes that Baltar is quite popular in the Fleet (particularly following the unmasking of a [[Six Degrees of Separation|Cylon plot to discredit him]]) and has Gray relinquish his position as her nominee in favor of Baltar.
*Baltar wins the nomination through a close vote, as the Quorum is evenly split, but as president Roslin is allowed to cast the tie breaking vote which enables Baltar's victory – but Zarek makes it clear matters are far from over: there is still the presidential elections due in 6 months. Roslin introduces Baltar as the victor at the Colonial Day Celebration.

*[[Karl Agathon]] and [[Sharon Agathon|Caprica-Valerii]] have reached the outskirts of [[Delphi]].
*Agathon ponders how he could have seen two women who look exactly the same helping the Cylons, after recently seeing a [[Number Six]] copy leading a squad of [[Centurion (RDM)|Centurions]]. Quickly putting two and two together, he considers the [[humanoid Cylon]]s to be some sort of human "replicants," created by the Cylons using human DNA. Agathon realizes that this would explain the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|rapid fall]] of the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]], as the humanoid Cylons must have infiltrated the Colonies to soften them up for an invasion.
*Caprica-Sharon uses this idea as a means of testing his possible feelings towards her, should she reveal her true identity. She starts to say that maybe the humanoid Cylons are misled, or that their attack on the Colonies were wrong and they might doubt that it was the right thing to do (her own current thoughts), but Agathon dismisses this as he feels they're just more Cylons.
*Later, as they try to enter the Cylon base at Delphi, Agathon sees [[Number Eight|another Valerii copy]], and instantly realizes the truth, flashing through his adventures on Caprica and all of the coincidences surrounding his escape—at which point he immediately runs away from both Caprica-Sharon and the base.

President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] has formed a new [[Quorum of Twelve (RDM)|Quorum of Twelve]], the legislative branch of the Colonial [[Government]], and has decided to have her unveiling of the new Quorum coincide with the patriotic holiday.
*A tension erupts when terrorist/criminal [[Tom Zarek]] wins nomination as [[Sagittaron]] representitive on the Quorum. Roslin feels she cannot remove him, as he won the election fairly (many on Sagittaron view him as a hero of their downtrodden Tribe).
*At the first meeting of the Quorum, Zarek creates a crisis by insisting that the vacant post of Vice President be filled by a special vote of the Quorum, in case anything should happen to Roslin – a move that is surprisingly seconded by [[Gaius Baltar]] (when prodded by Number Six)– Tom Zarek is thereupon nominated as a vice presidential candidate. He has been using his men on the Astral Queen to perform technical favors for several other ships, to the support of several, plus he plays on various dissatisfactions in the refugee fleet.
*Roslin responds by pushing [[Wallace Gray]], a presidential aide, into standing as an alternative candidate.
*Manipulating the [[Colonial Gang|media]], Zarek makes headway in his desire to secure the position as Vice President, while a man named [[Valance]] plots in secret to carry out an assassinate plot against Roslin – possibly orchestrated by Zarek.

'''Galen Tyrol''', often referred to as "Chief", was the highest ranking NCO remaining aboard ''[[Galactica]]'' before being demoted. He served aboard battlestars from the age of eighteen, including ''[[Columbia (RDM)|Columbia]]'', ''[[Atlantia (RDM)|Atlantia]]'', and ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]). He has served under [[William Adama]] on ''Galactica'' for five years ([[Litmus]]), and has considerable respect for the Commander - a feeling that is reciprocated. Indeed, he admires Adama to such a degree that he has modeled his own style of leadership on that of Adama: firm, fair, and willing to go to the fullest degree in support of his crew.

However, when people under his responsibility are injured, threatened or killed, Tyrol becomes rather irrational, angry, and reckless in his actions, to the point of further endangering his people or his reputation with senior officers. Following the attack, with ''Galactica'' undermanned, Tyrol also performs the function of senior Damage Control officer ([[Miniseries]] / [[Water]]), a role that brings him into conflict with [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]] after the ''Galactica'' is struck by a Cylon nuclear warhead.

For several months prior to the Cylon attack, and in its aftermath, Tyrol has been engaged in an affair with Lieutenant [[Sharon Valerii]], one of ''Galactica'''s [[Raptor]] pilots. Despite the fact the relationship breaks military protocol, senior officers on the ship turn a blind eye to it, while Tyrol's own crew treat it with fond amusement.

When the water supplies on ''Galactica'' are sabotaged, Tyrol is placed in an awkward position: by her own admission, Valerii knows explosives were missing from a small-arms locker - potentially making her a suspect - and he is the principal DC investigator into the cause of the explosions which wreck the water tanks. Torn between love and duty, the situation prompts him to hide evidence and allow a theory that the walls of the tanks simply collapsed from fatigue resulting from damage ''Galactica'' received from a nuclear warhead in the Cylon attack ([[Water]] / [[Miniseries]]).

Following the sabotage attempt, Valerii is ordered to end her relationship with Tyrol ([[Bastille Day]]) as a part of a general tightening-up of security and discipline on ship, only to have Tyrol's deck crew help the two of them to continue to meet in greater secret ([[Litmus]]).

Tyrol's world is thrown further into turmoil when both he and Valerii become the prime suspects in an investigation into how a humanoid Cylon (a copy of [[Aaron Doral]]) managed to get aboard the ''Galactica'', kill a guard, steal explosives and them blow himself up in a ship's corridor, almost killing Adama and Tigh ([[Litmus]]). When [[Socinus|one of his own Specialists]] is thrown in the brig for dereliction of duty which may have enabled the Cylon to access a weapons locker and steal the explosives, Tyrol is shocked into re-thinking his relationship with Valerii, and ends it himself.

While they continue to encounter one another professionallly - their work means they can hardly avoid one another - Tyrol and Valerii now have an uneasy distance between each other, and Valerii's actions around a captured Cylon [[Raider (RDM)|Raider]] have begun to disturb Tyrol.

=== Kobol ===

When [[The Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] discovers the planet believed to be [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]], Tyrol arranges for Socinus' release and later berates the specialist for lying to cover for him. Thereafter, Tyrol is part of the team assembled on the ill-fated recon Kobol on the [[Raptor 1]], which then crashlands near the ruins of the [[Tomb of Athena]]. ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]], [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II|Part II]])

While Tyrol is the more experienced leader, his non-commissioned status leaves Lieutenant [[Alex Quartararo|Alex "Crashdown" Quartararo]] in charge of the survivors. When Crashdown blames [[Tarn]] for leaving a needed med kit behind -- Socinus is injured during the crash and [[serisone]] is needed to help him breathe -- Tyrol steps in, recommending that he and [[Cally Henderson]] accompany Tarn. After successfully retrieving the kit from the Raptor crash site and heading back to the party, the trio is ambushed by Cylons and Tarn is killed ([[Scattered]]). Eventually, he and Henderson make it back to the party, only to find out that it is too late. Upon [[Seelix]]'s urging, Tyrol euthanizes Socinus with an overdose of [[morpha]] from both medkits to spare him a more painful death ([[Valley of Darkness]]).

Upon discovering that the Cylons are setting up an anti-aircraft missle battery, Crashdown plans a strike to take the unit (and its accompanying [[DRADIS]] dish) out of operation. While the others of his party, notably Baltar and Henderson, attempt to voice their indignation of such a plan, Tyrol firmly reminds them that Crashdown is in charge. Despite Tyrol's own misgivings of how the plan is to be executed, they follow through to the point right before the attack.

When it becomes clear that there were five Cylons at the battery, Henderson refuses to conduct a divionary attack. Tyrol attempts to diffuse the situation by trying to state that the DRADIS dish is undefended; all that needs to be done is to destroy it, and the turret could not automatically target the incoming [[SAR]] operation. Crashdown has a breakdown and irrationally threatens to kill Henderson, prompting Baltar to [[w: Frag (military)|frag]] Crashdown.

As the command officer, per se, Tyrol later destroys the DRADIS dish as the Cylons pursue them towards it. Tyrol then makes a stand against the Cylons, screaming and firing his pistol at them. The Cylons are all killed; a surprised Tyrol turns around and sees that a [[Raptor]], preserved by Tyrol's destruction of the dish, has destroyed the Centurions with a missile ([[Fragged]]).

=== After Kobol ===

Tyrol is arrested and interrogated by Colonel Tigh, due to his relationship with Commander Adama's would-be assassin. Tigh accuses him of being part of the plot to kill Adama, throwing him in the same cell as Valerii. Baltar later visits the cell on the pretense of drawing Tyrol's blood to analyze via the [[Cylon detector]]. In fact, Tyrol is used as a means to extract information from Valerii; Baltar injects a drug that induces a systemic shutdown of Tyrol's organs, telling Valerii that the chief only has moments to live and that providing him with information on the numbers of humanoid Cylons within the fleet is the only thing that could save Tyrol. After extracting the alleged number of Cylons in the Fleet from Valerii, Tyrol is injected with an antidote and is eventually declared human by Baltar (who does not run the test).

Tyrol is present when his own deckhand, Cally Henderson, kills Valerii, as Tyrol accompanies the security escort to Valerii's testing cell ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]). This act causes Tyrol to withdraw more from interaction with his own staff, many of which are already treating him coldly from his interaction with the now-confirmed Cylon copy of Valerii.

As with many on ''Galactica'', the stress of working without relief in sight or with little hope begins to take its toll on Tyrol. For him, the challenge of keeping the old Vipers running with very few spare parts and sometimes extensive damage becomes too much to manage. Under pressure from [[CAG]] [[Lee Adama]] to keep his Vipers flying, and mostly because he has little else to do, he scribbles out a design for a new fighter and begins to assemble it from basic metals and parts ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]). Initially, his deck crews are skeptical that the Chief's project is anything but a pipe dream. But word soon spreads as the fuselage forms and Tyrol's dream becomes reality. While Colonel Tigh is visibly against the project at first, Commander Adama notices that the project, for whatever outcome it might yield, gives the crew something to strive for, something to hope for, and tacitly allows off-duty crew to work on it. Many, including [[Anastasia Dualla]] from [[CIC]], and [[Kara Thrace]], lend a hand.

Tyrol's group is stuck when trying to place a skin on the new fighter since the necessary parts are reserved for the Vipers. But [[Karl Agathon]] suggests carbon composite materials as an alternative to cover the ship. This solves the covering but adds a significant new ability: stealth. The carbon composites would make the new fighter nearly invisible to [[DRADIS]] detection.

After the ship's [[logic bomb]] crisis, the new fighter, named the [[Blackbird]], is given a trial flight by Kara Thrace, with very good results. In a ceremony, President Roslin christenes the vessel and Tyrol reveals the nickname of the Blackbird in honor of the President: ''Laura''.

=== Helo's Return ===

After the return of [[Karl Agathon]] and another version of Sharon Valerii, pregnant with Agathon's child, the two attempt to reconcile their feelings for the biological creation. Helo and Tyrol eventually have a fistfight with lots of namecalling over what the Sharons were, but in reality, both are upset over the fact that the two Cylon copies were real people that whom they loved, despite the reality of what they are ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]). Their realization of this fact leads them to what amounted to an uneasy truce.

Later on, after the appearance of Admiral [[Helena Cain]] and the advanced [[Mercury-class]] ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', he and Agathon stop Lieutenant [[Alastair Thorne]] from raping Sharon and Tyrol accidentally kills Thorne in the process. Tyrol and Agathon are summarily arrested and transfered to ''Pegasus'' for court martial, against Commander Adama's objections. However, Admiral Cain's "court martial" is over before Adama even knows it began, and she sentences both to be executed for murder and treason. This prompts Adama to launch Vipers and a Raptor loaded with a marine strike team to recover them both ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

Helo and Tyrol receive a stay of execution through the efforts of [[Laura Roslin]] while the two battlestar commanders prepare to destroy the [[Resurrection Ship]] and its Cylon attack fleet that has followed ''Galactica''. Tyrol admits to his difficulty with dealing with the existence of the second Sharon, and tells Helo that he's got to "let it go", an idea that Helo supports, both understanding each other's take on the situation.

The two prisoners are seen receiving two sets of visitors, one welcome, one not. First, Lieutenant Adama visits them to tell them how close ''Galactica'' came to a shooting war with ''Pegasus'' ([[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]), asking the two, "Just how many kinds of stupid ''are'' you?" A day or so later, Specialists [[Vireem]] and [[Gage]] bind and beat the two prisoners in retaliation for the death of Lieutenant Thorne. [[Executive officer]] [[Jack Fisk]] comes to break up the beating, but refuses the prisoners' thanks as he was fond of Thorne himself.

After the escaped humanoid Cylon [[Gina]] escapes and shoots Admiral Cain, killing her, Tyrol and Helo are released and return to ''Galactica.'' Both Tyrol and Helo visit Sharon Valerii at her specialized cell. She happily greets Helo, but completely ignores Tyrol. He gets the hint and soon leaves the room, still unable to recover from the memory of the Sharon he knew as "Boomer".

=== Depression and Suicidal Yearnings ===

Tyrol also begins to experience a recurring nightmare in which he jumps from the upper portion of the flight deck to his death. [[Cally Henderson]] finds him asleep but twitching on the ''Galactica'' deck, but when she attempts to wake him, he attacks her in a frenzied rage, beating her savagely.

Deeply distressed by what he had done, Tyrol requests counselling with a priest, and is assigned [[Cavil|Brother Cavil]]. After some time with Tyrol, Cavil identifies the source of Tyrol's anxiety as arising from fear that he is a [[Humanoid Cylon|Cylon sleeper agent]], much like [[Sharon Valerii]] was. Tyrol points out that Sharon was totally convinced by her programming that she was human; Tyrol is haunted by the fear that it was impossible to truly know if you were a Cylon or not. Cavil assures him that he was not, quipping that he knew "because I'm a Cylon and I've never seen you at any of the meetings.".

[[Cavil]] tells him to get back to work, which is where his real family is, and argues that they, [[Deck Crew 5|the deck crew]], love him, "even Cally, ''especially'' Cally" ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]). Tyrol is subsequently responsible for exposing [[Cavil]] as a humanoid Cylon when he recognizes him as one of the returnees from the rescue mission to [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]]. Upon realizing this, Tyrol tackles Cavil, calls for security, and states 'Code Blue.'

A year later, Tyrol lives in [[New Caprica City]] and is the president of the Worker's Union, a vocal opponent of President Baltar's administration. By this point, he has married Henderson, who is pregnant 380 days after settling on the planet. Tyrol and Henderson witness the arrival of the Cylons on the planet, and go to [[Kara Thrace]] for guidance. She tells him to "fight them until we can't" ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).
Shortly thereafter, their son [[Nicholas Tyrol|Nicholas]] is born and later [[dedication ceremony|dedicated]] to the god of war Ares ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance|The Resistance, Episode 10]]).

By Day 67 of the Cylon Occupation, he begins working with [[Saul Tigh]] about forming an armed resistance movement against the Cylon forces ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance#Episode 1|The Resistance, Episode 1]]). They begin to cache weapons, hiding them in various places, including a temple ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance#Episode 3|The Resistance, Episode 3]]). Through his efforts, the Resistance begins to pick up membership in combating the Cylon Opressors.

By Day 134, the Resistance is in full swing, working with [[Samuel Anders]] to hit high profile targets, including a Heavy Raider ([[Occupation]]). He becomes at odds with Tigh over the use of suicide bombing to strike at President Baltar during the [[NCP]] Graduation Ceremony, but manages to get a signal to an orbiting Raptor from the Fleet ([[Occupation]]). As a result, he works with Tigh to disrupt the Cylons enough until ''Galactica'' and the Fleet can return.

After learning that his wife is among the detainees taken by the [[NCP]], Tyrol begins a plan to rescue them using the information provided [[Felix Gaeta|from a source]] within Baltar's government, which is ultimately successful ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

===After The Second Exodus===

Following the successful escape from New Caprica with the colonists, Tyrol re-enlists in ''Galactica'''s crew. Meanwhile, he becomes a member of the [[Circle]], a secret tribunal authorized by President Tom Zarek to judge and convict Cylon collaborators. When [[Felix Gaeta]] is tried and sentenced to death, Tyrol realises that Gaeta actually worked for the Resistance -- he was the "inside source" in Baltar's administration and without his help the Colonials probably would never escape from New Caprica. That revelation saves Gaeta's life and soon after the Circle disbands ([[Collaborators]]).

===Seeing the Eye===

Tyrol, his wife, and a small group of people are camped on the [[algae planet]] as they continue their harvest of badly-needed algae to be used as food for the Fleet ([[The Passage]]). Tyrol, however, senses something on the planet, and soon goes to investigate alone. He finds, within a mountain, a constructed entrance, which leads to an immense chamber, with five pentagonal obelisks, a central circular spire and writings of Colonial origin. Tyrol has discovered something that his parents, one a [[Religion in the Twelve Colonies (RDM)#The Clergy|priest]] and another an [[oracle]], would have longed to see: [[The Temple of Five]]. Tyrol has apparently and inadvertently discovered an family heritage to sense spiritual forces, or at least, ancient Colonial structures.

After the Cylons arrive in force at the algae planet and threaten to destroy ''Galactica'' if they attempt to leave with the Eye (with the Colonials threatening to nuke the planet if the Cylons attempt to do the same), Tyrol is ordered to wire the Temple with [[G-4]] to prevent a Cylon incursion. He begins to touch the central symbol on the center spire as, unknown to him, Cylons begin their move on the Temple ([[The Eye of Jupiter]]).

===The life of a knuckledragger===
During an outbreak of [[Mellorak infection|Mellorak sickness]], Tyrol displays a shared and apparently wide spread prejudice against [[Sagittaron]]s, including worrying that if they abandoned their religious belief against using scientific medicine the rest of the Fleet would have to share the scarce [[bittamucin]] drug that cures the disease ([[The Woman King]]).

The Tyrols are put in danger after Galen and Cally are trapped in a depressurizing airlock during routine maintenance. With no other options before air runs out, the two are ejected into open space and into a Raptor, despite the lack of pressure suits. Suffering [[w:Decompression sickness|decompression sickness]], Tyrol recovers in bed in sickbay while his wife recovers in a hyperbaric chamber. Tyrol finds himself with more time to care for his son, [[Nicholas Tyrol|Nicholas]], as his wife desired ([[A Day In The Life]]).

Tyrol and Admiral Adama lock horns in a labor dispute. Tyrol takes the side of workers aboard the [[refinery ship]] ''[[Daru Mozu]]'' who go on strike due their bad working and living conditions. Tyrol backs down when Adama threatens to have his wife executed. Later Tyrol and President Roslin come to a mutual agreement, and a [[Colonial Worker's Alliance|workers union]] is reformed from Tyrol's New Caprica days ([[Dirty Hands]]).

===Revelations===
When the Fleet heads towards the Ionian nebula, Tyrol is driven to unrest by a strange [[The Music|music]] he hears. Arriving at the nebula, the effect intensifies, and Tyrol is drawn together with [[Tory Foster]], [[Samuel Anders]] and [[Saul Tigh]]. Initially shocked at the discovery that he is one of the [[final five]] Cylons, Tyrol chooses, along with the other three, to return to his post and his duties in defending the Fleet from an incoming Cylon fleet ([[Crossroads, Part II]]). However, over the next months the four hold clandestine meetings in various locations, discussing their nature and their actions.

Tyrol has difficulty coping with this new revelation, beginning to cut himself. Although trying to act normally, Tyrol's changed behavior eventually has an effect on his marriage. He alienates his wife, who begins to take anti-depressants to cope. After she witnesses one of their secret meetings, she is killed by Foster, who makes it appear like a suicide ([[The Ties That Bind]]). Tyrol's personal problems are magnified by his wife's death and having to care alone for his son. An uncharacteristic "[[frak]]-up" on the hanger deck nearly results in catastrophe and a drunken tirade against Admiral Adama in [[Joe's bar]] earns him demotion and re-assignment ([[Escape Velocity]]). His shaving of his head reflects a continuing troubled state of mind. Blaming himself for Cally's death, he nearly commits suicide, but is unable to bring himself to pull the trigger. During this, he also clashes with [[Gaius Baltar]] over the memory of his wife and Baltar's new cult. However, when Baltar apologizes in private and explains the reasons for becoming a religious figure, Tyrol seems to forgive him ([[The Road Less Traveled]]).

When the [[Cylon Civil War|Cylon rebels]] take hostages and demand that the Cylons on ''Galactica'' are turned over to them, Saul Tigh comes clean and reveals the four. Tigh is about to be executed when [[Kara Thrace]] runs into the [[Launch tube (RDM)|launch tube]] control room announcing that she found another clue towards Earth. In an unexpected move, President [[Lee Adama]] grants the Cylons a full amnesty. When the Fleet makes its final jump to Earth, Tyrol sits in his quarters with his son ([[Revelations]]).

== Biography ==

Dualla's father thought that her enlistment in the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet Reserve]] was crazy, and he viewed the military as a joke. She signed up anyway because she "wanted to believe in something." This rift with her father would continue throughout her service and the last time they spoke they got in a heated argument; three weeks later the Cylons attacked, and Dualla never got a chance to reconcile with him ([[Final Cut]]). His rejection of her career choice stems from traditional Sagittaron [[Religion in the Twelve Colonies#Sagittaron beliefs|beliefs]] in pacifism, which Dualla does not share ([[The Woman King]]).

At the time of the [[Cylon attack]] she monitors Colonial Fleet communications traffic. Dualla is among the first to notice the unusually high levels of [[CNP|shipboard malfunctions and failures]] aboard other battlestars ([[Miniseries]]).

After the Fleet's [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage|initial escape and pursuit]] by the Cylons, Dualla coordinates Fleet activities such as [[FTL]] jumps with Tactical Officer [[Felix Gaeta]]. In this responsibility, she discovers that the ''[[Olympic Carrier]]'' fails to jump with the fleet after yet another jump ([[33]]).

Due to his attraction to Dualla, presidential aide [[Billy Keikeya]] "volunteers" her to join an off-ship mission to the ''[[Astral Queen]]'' ([[Bastille Day]]). Led by Captain [[Lee Adama]], the mission is to attempt enlistment of prisoners aboard the ''Astral Queen'' in resupplying ''Galactica'' with water following an act of sabotage ([[Water]]). During the mission, the team is taken hostage by prisoners during a jail break lead by fellow Sagittaron and political agitator [[Tom Zarek]].

Freed without personal harm during this situation, Dualla returns Billy Keikeya's affections, and they date during off-duty periods ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]).

When a party of [[Cylon Centurion|Cylons]] boards the ''Galactica'', Dualla suffers a concussion, but survives the engagement ([[Valley of Darkness]]). Later, Dualla aids in [[Laura Roslin]]'s escape from ''Galactica'' after the President's arrest by covering up the tracks of their secret communications coordinating their movements in the Fleet, and getting Colonel Tigh to sign permission to close off a causeway which they use as an escape route. At this time, Dualla seems to take a greater personal interest in [[Lee Adama|Apollo]] ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Dualla is assigned to give [[D'Anna Biers]] a tour around the battlestar as part of Biers' documentary of the ship ([[Final Cut]]). Lee Adama seems to return Dualla's personal attraction during a sparring exercise with the petty officer ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).

Dualla's [[avionics]] training helps in building a stable communications package for the experimental [[Blackbird]] fighter ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).

Keikeya, apparently attempting to solidify his relationship with the petty officer, proposes to Dualla, but she refuses. Keikeya later sees Dualla with Lee Adama on ''[[Cloud 9]]'' and accuses her of leading him on. Shortly after Keikeya's accusation, four terrorists commandeer the lounge and its occupants and demand the surrender of [[Sharon Valerii]]. When a ruse by Admiral [[William Adama]] is discovered, the [[Sesha Abinell|leader]] of the the terrorists orders Dualla's death. Keikeya intervenes and manages to shoot one of the terrorists, but Keikeya is also fatally wounded. In the same battle, Lee Adama is left severely wounded from a friendly-fire incident during an ill-fated reconnaissance by [[Kara Thrace]]. Dualla promises to watch over Lee Adama until he recovers in [[sickbay]]. When he finally regained consciousness, Dualla was so happy that neither of them noticed Thrace leaving the sickbay with a heartbroken expression ([[Sacrifice]]).

A few months later, still involved with Apollo, Dualla assists in the counting of ballots for the Presidential election. Dualla conspires with [[Tory Foster]] and [[Saul Tigh]] to rig the election in Roslin's favor, indicating that she comprehends the disaster that would follow if [[Gaius Baltar]] is elected. Though the plot initially succeeds, Lt. Gaeta's curiosity leads to Admiral Adama's discovery of the duplicity.

== Colonization of New Caprica ==

A few months later, Dualla has received a lieutenant's commission and is an officer now. Her transfer to ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' was approved on n Founders' Day - the official groundbreaking of [[New Caprica City]], but she is still trying to keep her relationship with Lee Adama from becoming too public.

Her commission at that time is peculiar. She was not a flight student, nor was this a typical "battlefield commission" of an outstanding sergeant in recognition of particularly remarkable leadership; she was a so-called "desk jockey" who rarely supervised or led anyone. Moreover, her commission came at a time of a massive demobilisation of the colonial military. In real-world militaries, reductions in force typically result in many officers being forced to accept enlisted rank as a condition of staying in service, rather than enlisted personnel being commissioned. There are at least two explanations. Adama could have commissioned her in order to ensure her silence about the details of the rigged election which, despite his lack of involvement in, he wished to leave forgotten and unexamined. As a lieutenant, she had much more to lose by talking about it and was reassured that she would not be made a scapegoat. Alternatively, Admiral Adama knew of the seriousness of Dualla's relationship with Lee and made her an officer before they became public. A commissioned officer - particularly a ''commanding'' officer and the son of the supreme commander - openly and notoriously bedding a junior enlisted soldier would have been severely detrimental to discipline and morale, and not something to which Adama could have turned a blind eye as he had the Tyrol-Valerii coupling. Exactly who would have had the legal authority to grant commissions at that point is also not known. In the real-life United States, regular commissions (vice temporary "battlefield" commissions permitted under special circumstances in war zones) are issued by the President, with the consent of the Senate (to be sure, it is essentially a "rubber stamp" processing of the list provided by the individual services, but that was not so much the case in the era of a small standing military). It is possible that [[Felix Gaeta]], as senior advisor to the President, arranged for the commission as a gift to his fomer collegue; this is made less likely, however, by his disapproval of the election fraud.

On the night of Founders' Day, Lee Adama spends a night with Thrace. The following morning, however, upon seeing that Thrace and Anders eloped, Lee proposes to Dualla and holds her affectionately in public. Dualla is aware of his love for Thrace, but likely doesn't know that they slept together. However, she says that life is good at the moment and that they should make the best of it until the Cylons show up again. She tells Adama that this is the happiest state she has ever seen him in and agrees to marry him ([[Unfinished Business (Extended Version)]]).

She subsequently serves as communications and executive officer on ''Pegasus'', part of its skeletal crew in orbit around [[New Caprica]]. She answers the communication from Kara Thrace on New Caprica, who wants to ask Commander Adama for [[antibiotics]] for [[Samuel Anders|her husband]]. While Adama is on the phone, Dualla identifies sudden [[DRADIS]] contacts of a large [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] fleet ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

==The [[Battle of New Caprica]]==

Four months after leaving New Caprica, [[William Adama|Admiral Adama]] decides to go through with a hazardous rescue operation. Dualla visibly disapproves of her father-in-law's decision to grant amnesty and a commission to [[Sharon Agathon]] and assign her as the liaison officer with the [[New Caprica Resistance]] ([[Precipice]]).

Dualla tries to reassure her husband after Admiral Adama decides to take ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' alone on the New Caprica rescue mission ([[Exodus, Part I]]). She appears visibly pleased when her husband defies orders and sacrifices ''Pegasus'' to save ''Galactica'' and the reassembled Fleet ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

==After the Second Exodus==
Dualla returns periodically to her old post in ''Galactica's'' CIC after the Battle of New Caprica, but also has greater responsibilities in shepherding civilians on ''Galactica'' during a harrowing journey through a [[Passage (star cluster)|dangerous star cluster]] to a [[Algae planet|planet filled with edible algae]] ([[The Passage]]). Dualla and Samuel Anders are also witness to what appears to be both a feud and not-so-veiled affection between her husband and Anders' wife during a boxing match where Major Adama and Captain Thrace beat each other to exhaustion ([[Unfinished Business]]).

After Cylons arrive at the algae planet, Dualla must shift her time to coordinate a defensive plan for the mysterious [[Temple of Five]]. She is ordered by her husband to rescue Starbuck after her [[Raptor]] is downed by a Cylon missile. Despite being quite aware of her husband's affair with Thrace, she rescues Thrace, repairs the [[Computers in the Re-imagined Series#Avionics|avionics]], and, with Thrace's guidance, flies the Raptor back to ''Galactica'' herself despite her own lack of pilot training as Starbuck's hands are too badly burned for her to fly ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Rapture]]").

Dualla confronts her husband about their marriage and its problems. She believes it to be a lie, but indicates she will not interfere if Adama chose to pursue his relationship with Kara Thrace. Adama breaks off his affair and reconciles ([[Taking a Break From All Your Worries]]).

Dualla contracts [[Mellorak sickness]] as do many other fellow Sagittarons (housed [[Dogsville|as refugees]] on the battlestar). While Dualla does not share the same beliefs of other Sagittarons regarding medical care and the military, she seeks treatment from Dr. [[Michael Robert]], a civilian doctor, because her unspecified dislike for Doctor [[Cottle]]. A plot is soon discovered where the doctor is killing Sagittarons he treats, and [[Karl Agathon]] rushes in to save Dualla. Fortunately, Dr. Robert had administered the correct medication to Dualla, giving exception due to her military service ([[The Woman King]]).

When her husband chooses to defend Dr. [[Gaius Baltar]] in his trial, Dualla is incensed, and separates from Adama ([[Crossroads, Part I]]). Later, when Adama officially leaves ''Galactica'' to start his new life a civilian, the two embrace and he tells her that she "got the house", implying that their breakup is final yet, in the end, amicable ([[Six of One]]).

She works closely with her estranged husband when, as Acting President, Lee takes command of the fleet during his father's emotional incapacity and threatens to execute [[Saul Tigh]], [[Samuel Anders]], and [[Galen Tyrol]] unless [[Number Three (Downloaded copy)|Number Three]] releases her human hosteges. ([[Revelations]]). Dualla addresses him as "Mr. President" when notifying him of incoming communication, but does not demonstrate any of the animosity, disapproval nor hostility toward him as she periodically did aboard Pegasus and the algae planet. Indeed, she appears to be quite pelased and proud of her husband, while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Admiral '''Helena Cain''' hails from the colony [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Tauron|Tauron]], and is the commanding officer of the [[Mercury class battlestar]] ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' at the time of the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]]. She is a hard woman, unafraid of making difficult decisions and unflinching in her will to do what she sees as right. These traits sometimes compel her to feel that she has been left no choice but to take controversial, unpopular and morally questionable choices.

==Biography==
===Childhood===
Helena Cain was born during the first [[Cylon War]]. On the last day of the war, Tauron was under attack by Cylon [[Basestar (RDM)|basestars]] and [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Centurion]] ground forces. Her sister [[Lucy Cain]] and her [[Cain (father)|father]] were pinned down in a building under heavy fire. When her father was injured trying to escape, he told Helena to get Lucy to a shelter, before dying. The two made it out of the building, but outside Helena panicked, left Lucy in a field of rubble and ran away to hide in a container. When Cain came out again after the Cylons retreated, she found only her sister's doll on the ground ("[[Razor]]", extended version). These traumatic events were formative for her future.

===Cylon attack and guerrilla warfare===

When ''Pegasus'' is scheduled for an extensive overhaul at the [[Scorpion Fleet Shipyards]], Cain has regular meetings with [[Gina Inviere]], a civilian contractor working for the [[Ministry of Defense]], to work out the details of the retrofit. The two eventually become romantically involved.

Shortly before the [[Cylon attack]], Lieutenant [[Kendra Shaw]] is assigned to the battlestar as Cain's personal aide. When the lieutenant fails to make it to [[CIC]] immediately after her arrival, Cain chews her out in front of the crew, but breaks into laughter after Shaw leaves, showing that she isn't always as hard as she appears to be.

When the Cylons [[Fall of the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards|attack the shipyards]], Cain is in her quarters, working out and going over efficiency reports. She makes it to CIC and immediately orders the battlestar unmoored. When the navigational computer is discovered to be offline and nuclear missiles are inbound, Cain orders a [[blind jump]] to escape certain destruction. With many of her crew dead and the destruction of the Twelve Colonies confirmed, she holds a speech vowing to take revenge on the Cylons. However, in a private dinner with her XO [[Jurgen Belzen]], [[Jack Fisk]], Inviere and Shaw, she promises that she has no intention to unnecessarily waste lives or resources in an emotional quest for revenge.

Shortly later, a Cylon communications relay is detected, which the crew believes to be an easy target. On arrival however, it turns out the target is a Cylon staging area, filled with 15 squadrons of [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Raider]]s. Belzen urges Cain to recover their Vipers and retreat, but instead she seemingly forgets her earlier promise and orders the launch of all remaining fighters, which Belzen refuses to do in the face of such odds. Cain asks the XO for his side arm, and shoots him in the head in front of the crew. She then turned to Fisk and orders him to launch the Vipers, which he does. At the same time, Inviere allows a group of [[Cylon Centurion]]s to board the ship, causing many deaths. Shaw reveals her as a Cylon agent in CIC and Cain orders her arrest. ''Pegasus'' manages to win the [[Battle of the Communications Relay|battle]], but with staggering losses.

Cain is deeply stung by Inviere's betrayal, her feelings toward her erstwhile lover turned into hatred and scorn. She gives [[Alastair Thorne]] free rein in interrogating her for information, suggesting "pain ... degradation, fear, shame." This sets the tone for the interrogations, ultimately leading to measures such as gang rape.

When ''Pegasus'' happens upon a small civilian fleet, Admiral Cain decides to strip it of resources and personnel, including their FTL drives. The civilians, however, refuse the cooperate. Resistance is particularly high on the ''[[Scylla]]''. When a boarding team led by Shaw and Fisk fails to make the civilians cooperate, Cain orders to shoot the families of every conscript who refuses to obey. Shaw fires the first shot and eventually 10 people are killed, thus breaking the resistance. Cain is very impressed by Shaw's actions in the civilian standoff and promotes her to the rank of captain, explaining that Shaw has the qualities of a "razor"; someone who is able to shut down all emotions and inhibitions in battle in order to survive.

Despite the impossible odds, Cain intends to sustain a campaign of guerrilla warfare against the occupying Cylon forces. She then led the battlestar away from the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]], following a Cylon fleet that trails what they discovered as the fellow battlestar ''[[Galactica]]'' ("[[Razor]]", "[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]").

===Galactica===
Upon meeting up with Commander [[William Adama]]'s [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] six months later, she assumes command and transfers personnel from ''Galactica'' to ''Pegasus'', including [[Lee Adama]] and [[Kara Thrace]], indicating that Adama has let military discipline become too lax. Cain is more interested in fighting the Cylons, seemingly oblivious to the point that she and the ships around her are all that was left of the human race, whose survival is more paramount than offensive assaults. While Adama initially welcomes such attacks against a mysterious Cylon force that followed the Fleet (to stop it from following them), his attitude begins to cool about Cain's very strict and unmerciful leadership.

Cain's actions also raise concerns with President [[Laura Roslin]]. Cain recognizes Roslin and her former role as Secretary of Education. After the Fleet command transfer from Adama to Cain, Roslin makes several attempts to call Cain to request supplies for the civilian fleet, but all of Roslin's calls are ignored.

===Court-martial, standoff===
After the suspect fatal assault of one of her crew members, Lieutenant Thorne, Cain arrests Chief [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]] and Lieutenant [[Karl Agathon]] and has them flown to ''Pegasus'', under Adama's protest, since traditionally a trial is held on the ship where an incident has occurred. Cain uses ''Galactica'''s log against Adama when he asks for a tribunal; Cain notes that Adama dismissed the last council unilaterally when the verdict did not suit him. Cain summarily court-martials the prisoners herself in a matter of hours, sentencing them to death. Commander Adama is far from pleased, and orders an assault crew to head for ''Pegasus'' to bring his men back. Cain responds by deploying her squadrons of advanced Viper Mark VIIs against Adama's museum collection of Viper Mark IIs in a tense standoff ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

The tense game of chicken that begins is ended by Starbuck, flying the [[Blackbird]] as she returns from her unofficial recon mission on the unknown Cylon ship. Starbuck transmits the pictures she took of the [[Resurrection Ship]] back to ''Pegasus'''s CIC. Upon Thrace's return to ''Pegasus'', Cain is so impressed with her performance that she promotes Thrace to Captain and ''Pegasus'' [[CAG]], replacing the competent but uncreative and inflexible Captain [[Cole Taylor|Taylor]]. Cain tasks Starbuck with planning the joint strike on the Resurrection Ship.

===Attack on the Resurrection Ship, and assassination===

After Captain Thrace briefs both Adama, Apollo, and Cain on her plan to attack the Resurrection Ship, Adama pulls Starbuck aside and outlines a plan to assassinate Cain following the attack. At the same time, Cain instructs [[Jack Fisk]] to lead a detachment of marines to "terminate Adama's command" after the battle ([[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]).

When the moment arrives, neither commander decides to send their execution orders, leaving Thrace and Fisk visibly relieved. Cain survives Adama's plan, ironically, because Adama solicits advice from [[Sharon Agathon|the second copy of Sharon Valerii]], who reminds him of his decommissioning speech that asked whether humanity asked itself if it deserved to survive ([[Miniseries]]). That is, Adama's actions in assassinating Cain would be a good example of why humanity deserved what the Cylons dealt to them so many months ago. Although it may have been due to realizing Adama's value as a commander during the battle, the reasons for Cain staying her hand were never revealed, and remain a topic of debate among fans.

Unfortunately for Cain, shortly after Adama's window to assassinate Cain had passed, [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] helps Inviere escape from the brig. Inviere makes her way to Cain's quarters and shoots Cain at point blank range. A soldier to the last, Cain's final words are "[[Frak]] you."

Cain's funeral is given full military honors, with Fisk and Thrace giving eulogies. Though Thrace only knew Cain briefly, she obviously admired the woman, stating "We were safer with her than we are without." ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]). Several months later, Adama tells his son that he can't find any faults in Cain's tactical decisions, and refuses to pass judgment on her, because he has people to keep him in check when he is in danger of going down a similar path, and never had to go through Cain's situation in the first place ([[Razor]]).

Dualla's father thought that her enlistment in the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet Reserve]] was crazy, and he viewed the military as a joke. She signed up anyway because she "wanted to believe in something." This rift with her father would continue throughout her service and the last time they spoke they got in a heated argument; three weeks later the Cylons attacked, and Dualla never got a chance to reconcile with him ([[Final Cut]]). His rejection of her career choice stems from traditional Sagittaron [[Religion in the Twelve Colonies#Sagittaron beliefs|beliefs]] in pacifism, which Dualla does not share ([[The Woman King]]).

At the time of the [[Cylon attack]] she monitors Colonial Fleet communications traffic. Dualla is among the first to notice the unusually high levels of [[CNP|shipboard malfunctions and failures]] aboard other battlestars ([[Miniseries]]).

After the Fleet's [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage|initial escape and pursuit]] by the Cylons, Dualla coordinates Fleet activities such as [[FTL]] jumps with Tactical Officer [[Felix Gaeta]]. In this responsibility, she discovers that the ''[[Olympic Carrier]]'' fails to jump with the fleet after yet another jump ([[33]]).

Due to his attraction to Dualla, presidential aide [[Billy Keikeya]] "volunteers" her to join an off-ship mission to the ''[[Astral Queen]]'' ([[Bastille Day]]). Led by Captain [[Lee Adama]], the mission is to attempt enlistment of prisoners aboard the ''Astral Queen'' in resupplying ''Galactica'' with water following an act of sabotage ([[Water]]). During the mission, the team is taken hostage by prisoners during a jail break lead by fellow Sagittaron and political agitator [[Tom Zarek]].

Freed without personal harm during this situation, Dualla returns Billy Keikeya's affections, and they date during off-duty periods ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]).

When a party of [[Cylon Centurion|Cylons]] boards the ''Galactica'', Dualla suffers a concussion, but survives the engagement ([[Valley of Darkness]]). Later, Dualla aids in [[Laura Roslin]]'s escape from ''Galactica'' after the President's arrest by covering up the tracks of their secret communications coordinating their movements in the Fleet, and getting Colonel Tigh to sign permission to close off a causeway which they use as an escape route. At this time, Dualla seems to take a greater personal interest in [[Lee Adama|Apollo]] ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Dualla is assigned to give [[D'Anna Biers]] a tour around the battlestar as part of Biers' documentary of the ship ([[Final Cut]]). Lee Adama seems to return Dualla's personal attraction during a sparring exercise with the petty officer ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).

Dualla's [[avionics]] training helps in building a stable communications package for the experimental [[Blackbird]] fighter ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).

Keikeya, apparently attempting to solidify his relationship with the petty officer, proposes to Dualla, but she refuses. Keikeya later sees Dualla with Lee Adama on ''[[Cloud 9]]'' and accuses her of leading him on. Shortly after Keikeya's accusation, four terrorists commandeer the lounge and its occupants and demand the surrender of [[Sharon Valerii]]. When a ruse by Admiral [[William Adama]] is discovered, the [[Sesha Abinell|leader]] of the the terrorists orders Dualla's death. Keikeya intervenes and manages to shoot one of the terrorists, but Keikeya is also fatally wounded. In the same battle, Lee Adama is left severely wounded from a friendly-fire incident during an ill-fated reconnaissance by [[Kara Thrace]]. Dualla promises to watch over Lee Adama until he recovers in [[sickbay]]. When he finally regained consciousness, Dualla was so happy that neither of them noticed Thrace leaving the sickbay with a heartbroken expression ([[Sacrifice]]).

A few months later, still involved with Apollo, Dualla assists in the counting of ballots for the Presidential election. Dualla conspires with [[Tory Foster]] and [[Saul Tigh]] to rig the election in Roslin's favor, indicating that she comprehends the disaster that would follow if [[Gaius Baltar]] is elected. Though the plot initially succeeds, Lt. Gaeta's curiosity leads to Admiral Adama's discovery of the duplicity.

== Colonization of New Caprica ==

A few months later, Dualla has received a lieutenant's commission and is an officer now. Her transfer to ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' was approved on n Founders' Day - the official groundbreaking of [[New Caprica City]], but she is still trying to keep her relationship with Lee Adama from becoming too public.

Her commission at that time is peculiar. She was not a flight student, nor was this a typical "battlefield commission" of an outstanding sergeant in recognition of particularly remarkable leadership; she was a so-called "desk jockey" who rarely supervised or led anyone. Moreover, her commission came at a time of a massive demobilisation of the colonial military. In real-world militaries, reductions in force typically result in many officers being forced to accept enlisted rank as a condition of staying in service, rather than enlisted personnel being commissioned. There are at least two explanations. Adama could have commissioned her in order to ensure her silence about the details of the rigged election which, despite his lack of involvement in, he wished to leave forgotten and unexamined. As a lieutenant, she had much more to lose by talking about it and was reassured that she would not be made a scapegoat. Alternatively, Admiral Adama knew of the seriousness of Dualla's relationship with Lee and made her an officer before they became public. A commissioned officer - particularly a ''commanding'' officer and the son of the supreme commander - openly and notoriously bedding a junior enlisted soldier would have been severely detrimental to discipline and morale, and not something to which Adama could have turned a blind eye as he had the the Tyrol-Valerii coupling. Exactly who would have had the legal authority to grant commissions at that point is also not known. In the real-life United States, regular commissions (vice temporary "battlefield" commissions permitted under special circumstances in war zones) are issued by the President, with the consent of the Senate (to be sure, it is essentially a "rubber stamp" processing of the list provided by the individual services, but that was not so much the case in the era of a small standing military). It is possible that [[Felix Gaeta]], as senior advisor to the President, arranged for the commission as a gift to his former colleague; this is made less likely, however, by his disapproval of the election fraud.

On the night of Founders' Day, Lee Adama spends a night with Thrace. The following morning, however, upon seeing that Thrace and Anders eloped, Lee proposes to Dualla and holds her affectionately in public. Dualla is aware of his love for Thrace, but likely doesn't know that they slept together. However, she says that life is good at the moment and that they should make the best of it until the Cylons show up again. She tells Adama that this is the happiest state she has ever seen him in and agrees to marry him ([[Unfinished Business (Extended Version)]]).

She subsequently serves as communications and executive officer on ''Pegasus'', part of its skeletal crew in orbit around [[New Caprica]]. She answers the communication from Kara Thrace on New Caprica, who wants to ask Commander Adama for [[antibiotics]] for [[Samuel Anders|her husband]]. While Adama is on the phone, Dualla identifies sudden [[DRADIS]] contacts of a large [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] fleet ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

==The [[Battle of New Caprica]]==

Four months after leaving New Caprica, [[William Adama|Admiral Adama]] decides to go through with a hazardous rescue operation. Dualla visibly disapproves of her father-in-law's decision to grant amnesty and a commission to [[Sharon Agathon]] and assign her as the liaison officer with the [[New Caprica Resistance]] ([[Precipice]]).

Dualla tries to reassure her husband after Admiral Adama decides to take ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' alone on the New Caprica rescue mission ([[Exodus, Part I]]). She appears visibly pleased when her husband defies orders and sacrifices ''Pegasus'' to save ''Galactica'' and the reassembled Fleet ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

==After the Second Exodus==
Dualla returns periodically to her old post in ''Galactica's'' CIC after the Battle of New Caprica, but also has greater responsibilities in shepherding civilians on ''Galactica'' during a harrowing journey through a [[Passage (star cluster)|dangerous star cluster]] to a [[Algae planet|planet filled with edible algae]] ([[The Passage]]). Dualla and Samuel Anders are also witness to what appears to be both a feud and not-so-veiled affection between her husband and Anders' wife during a boxing match where Major Adama and Captain Thrace beat each other to exhaustion ([[Unfinished Business]]).

After Cylons arrive at the algae planet, Dualla must shift her time to coordinate a defensive plan for the mysterious [[Temple of Five]]. She is ordered by her husband to rescue Starbuck after her [[Raptor]] is downed by a Cylon missile. Despite being quite aware of her husband's affair with Thrace, she rescues Thrace, repairs the [[Computers in the Re-imagined Series#Avionics|avionics]], and, with Thrace's guidance, flies the Raptor back to ''Galactica'' herself despite her own lack of pilot training as Starbuck's hands are too badly burned for her to fly ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Rapture]]").

Dualla confronts her husband about their marriage and its problems. She believes it to be a lie, but indicates she will not interfere if Adama chose to pursue his relationship with Kara Thrace. Adama breaks off his affair and reconciles ([[Taking a Break From All Your Worries]]).

Dualla contracts [[Mellorak sickness]] as do many other fellow Sagittarons (housed [[Dogsville|as refugees]] on the battlestar). While Dualla does not share the same beliefs of other Sagittarons regarding medical care and the military, she seeks treatment from Dr. [[Michael Robert]], a civilian doctor, because her unspecified dislike for Doctor [[Cottle]]. A plot is soon discovered where the doctor is killing Sagittarons he treats, and [[Karl Agathon]] rushes in to save Dualla. Fortunately, Dr. Robert had administered the correct medication to Dualla, giving exception due to her military service ([[The Woman King]]).

When her husband chooses to defend Dr. [[Gaius Baltar]] in his trial, Dualla is incensed, and separates from Adama ([[Crossroads, Part I]]). Later, when Adama officially leaves ''Galactica'' to start his new life a civilian, the two embrace and he tells her that she "got the house", implying that their breakup is final yet, in the end, amicable ([[Six of One]]).

She works closely with her estranged husband when, as Acting President, Lee takes command of the fleet during his father's emotional incapacity and threatens to execute [[Saul Tigh]], [[Samuel Anders]], and [[Galen Tyrol]] unless [[Number Three (Downloaded copy)|Number Three]] releases her human hostages. ([[Revelations]]). Dualla addresses him as "Mr. President" when notifying him of incoming communication, but does not demonstrate any of the animosity, disapproval nor hostility toward him as she periodically did aboard Pegasus and the algae planet. Indeed, she appears to be quite pleased and proud of her husband, while maintaining a professional demeanor.

That character was called "Rigel" but I didn't think that name worked in the remake, so I gave her the name of Dualla."

It would seem fitting that the on-screen name of one of the few actors of African descent in the re-imagined series would share a connection to a real life African ethnic group.
