: ''For the canonical character from whom this depiction is based, see: [[Adama (1980)]].''

'''Adama''' is commander of ''[[Galactica (1980)|Galactica]]'' and military leader of the [[The Fleet (TOS)|Colonial Fleet]], during his leadership of the Fleet, he notes its continued deterioration and general malaise of the survivors. Near the end of their journey to [[Earth (1980 alternate)|Earth]], Adama tires of maintaining a strong, optimistic demeanor in public and contemplates suicide, before being summoned by Doctor [[Zee (alternate)|Zee]] to ''[[Rising Star (TOS)|Rising Star]]'' regarding the discovery of Earth.

During the journey, Adama and Zee have a strained relationship over how Zee appears to treat Adama, in addition to Zee's unmentioned "experiments" on people, which reached its zenith upon deciding how to best approach the members of the Thirteenth Tribe. Enraged at Zee's recommendation that the Colonials forcibly establish order on the planet due to their primitive state, Adama pleads with the Quorum of Twelve to establish peaceful contact with the humans on Earth. Adama solicits their agreement, only to lead to ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> destruction at the hands of the United States of America's military. Moments after the crash Adama sees the sunlight of Earth from a large crack in ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> bulkhead (''[[Galactica 1980 1]]'').

Initially believed dead Adama was in fact the only known survivor of the crash and was rescued by Troy and Dillon who rapidly got anti-radiation meds into him before evacuating the area (but not before Dillion was killed by US Miltary forces).

With a shooting war underway between Colonal and Earth forces and with Doctor Zee having declared him dead to take power for himself Adama allied with Earth scientist [[Felix Mortinson]] and together with Troy they made their way to Mount weather where they contacted the President of the United states. Initailly paranoia and the language barrier made talks close to impossible but when Adama recited the text of the Voyager records message to alien cultures, and with the aid of Mortinson (who was able to translate the colonial tongue into English) he managed to show the President that what occured had been a tragic accident.

Using the US Emergancy broadcast system, Adama retook control of the fleet and got the Colonial forces to stand down, however to late it was discovered the Cylons had followed the fleet and launched an all out assault on Earth.

As Colonial and Earthman fought shoulder to shoulder in a desperate battle for the last Bastion of humanity, it was discovered that the 13th tribe primative though it was had one weapon the thermonuclear bomb, that Colonial and Cylon shields could not defend aginst (indeed that was how the Galactica had been shot down), however Earths missiles could not reach the baseships, and the missles could not be mounted on Colonial ships, the only way was for the bombs to be placed in vipers and flown stright into the enemy ships...

With most of the refugees (relatively) safe on Earth the surviving Warriors prepared for suicide assaults, including Troy who is confronted by Adama. Forcing his grandson to stand down Adama (who was a skilled pilot in his younger days) leads the assault on the lead baseship, commanded by none other than his old foe Baltar. The two enemies exchanged words over radio as Adama closed on the baseship, too late Baltar realised Adama's true plan...

In a nuclear fireball Adama destroyed the basestar and redeemed himself for his precieved failure in leading the Cylons to Earth and the botched first contact, while at the same time other attacks destroyed the entire Cylon fleet.

Adama died a hero, but with the certainty that more Cylons would inevitably attack Earth a crash program began to build a new Battlestar. Six Months later the half built ship proudly bore the name: Adama...

==Notes==

This version of Adama appears to be a fusion of the TOS and RDM versions of the character. While he experienced all the events of the 1978 series and looks like Lorne Greene there are differences. Most notably he is a skilled fighter pilot (something never show in the original series), and Baltar refers to him as "Bill" on two occasions.

This version certainly has two names but it's not certain what his first name actually is, while a caption in issue 3 calls him "Troykus" Baltar refers to him as "Bill" which Adama acknowledges acknowledges meaning unless this is a nickname his first name could be William.

Tobias1: /* Operation */

[[Image:Railgun.jpg|thumb|right|One of ''Galactica's'' gun turrets]]

On Colonial warships, a '''battery''' is a group of guns or missile launchers operated together at one place. A battery may vary in number and arrangement depending on class <ref>These are not [[w:Railgun|railguns]]. No [[BW:CJ|official sources]] use this term to describe these weapons, and there is substantial evidence to the contrary.</ref>.

[[Galactica type battlestar|''Galactica'' type]] battlestars are armed with 24 gun turrets, with two gun barrels each. Eight are mounted on the dorsal and sixteen on the ventral hull. Of these sixteen, eight are mounted on the bow and are thus able to fire directly forwards. It is likely that the term "battery" refers to several of these turrets acting in concert. One of the forward dorsal turrets is destroyed either during the [[Battle of New Caprica|liberation of New Caprica]] or the [[Battle of the Ionian Nebula]] ([[He That Believeth In Me]]) <ref>A visual effects shot in "[[He That Believeth In Me]]" (at time index 10:25) clearly shows a hole in the hull where one of the turrets should be. However, its destruction is not explicitly shown.</ref>.

On [[Mercury class]] battlestars, on the other hand, four fixed forward twin guns are grouped to a battery ([[The Captain's Hand]]) <ref name="battery">''Pegasus's'' bow armament can be seen to consist of two batteries of four guns each, when she engages a Cylon basestar.</ref>. In addition, thirty twin turrets are located along the sides of the alligator head and [[flight pod]]s. Unlike ''Galactica's'' rapid-fire [[Weapons in the Re-imagined Series#Point_defense_guns|point defense guns]], these have a slower rate of fire and are also used for offensive action ("[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]", "[[Exodus, Part II]]").

*In modern day naval nomenclature, a vessel's "main battery" is its primary ''offensive'' weapon. Since the battery of four two-barreled gun turrets at the bow of ''Pegasus'' has been referred to as such on several occasions, it is likely that this battery - presenting the battlestar's smallest profile to the enemy - is used primarily for offensive actions, while the others could be adapted for use as per mission parameters.

[[Image:PegasusForeBatteries.jpg|thumb|right|''Pegasus'' firing her main battery ([[The Captain's Hand]]).]]

==Ammunition==

[[Image:Flakfield.jpg|thumb|right|The flak field from ''Galactica's'' large turrets ([[Scattered]])]]

The large turrets found on Colonial [[battlestar|battlestars]] fire several types of ammunition, depending on the objective:

*Flak ammunition: this ammunition employs [[w:shrapnel|exploding metal fragments]] at high velocity, creating a defensive barrier around the battlestar which can shear enemy fighters or incoming missiles. This, along with the point-defenses, keep the enemy at a distance, allowing the battlestar's [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] forces to safely deploy and engage ([[Scattered]]).

*Offensive ammunition: in this configuration, salvos from the main cannons are extremely lethal to the unarmored Cylons [[Basestar (RDM)|basestars]], which furthermore posess no such weapons or point-defense themselves. As such, this is a battlestar's main weapon against other capital ships ("[[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]", "[[Exodus, Part II]]").

It should be noted that the massive recoil caused by firing these flak rounds makes it impossible for the cannon to have a fast rate of fire like the battlestar's point-defense turrets. These shells are also too large to be loaded quickly and efficiently by crew members, and as such are loaded by mechanical hoists ([[33]]).

==Firing Solution==

[[Image:Pegasus Hi-Res 5a.jpg|thumb|right|''Pegasus's'' flight pod batteries ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).]]

When engaging enemy targets over any kind of distance, a '''firing solution''' must be obtained. This requires several pieces of information to be input to a battery's fire-control computer, including the target's speed, course, and range; and the firing platform's speed and course. The velocity of the shells would be known, and is constant, given that there is no air friction in the vacuum of space. The resulting computation would allow the gun captains to accurately aim their weaponry to such a degree that firing will result in a probable hit.

==Operation==

[[Image:TheEnemysGateIsDown.jpg|thumb|right|The devastating effect Colonial batteries can have on a Cylon basestar ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]])]]

Colonial gun batteries have several modes of operation.

*Salvo Fire: this calls for a battery, or elements of a battery, to fire simultaneously at a single target. ([[The Captain's Hand]])
*Full Attack Mode: a battery's commander, called gun captain ("[[33]]", "[[You Can't Go Home Again]]"), will target and engage targets of opportunity <ref name="attack">During the [[Battle of the Resurrection Ship]], batteries are called to "fire at will".</ref>.

On [[Mercury class battlestar|Mercury-class battlestars]], gun batteries can be set to one of several automatic firing modes ([[Exodus, Part II]]). It is unknown if the gun batteries on [[Galactica type battlestar|older battlestars]] have this capability as well. There are likely other modes of operation for these batteries, but none have been explicitly stated on screen.

At least on ''Galactica''-type battlestars, the turrets appear to be manned and manually fired. Each battery has a transparent canopy through which it is occasional possible to make out two figures in colonial flight suits. Due to the location and the (almost certain) weaker nature of the transparent material of the canopy this is likely one of the most dangerous jobs on the ship since (as seen during [[Daybreak part II]]) the batteries tend to be prime targets for raiders and at least two are destroyed during the series. This destruction is usually explosive (owing to munitions detonating) and likely allows few options for escape.

'''"The Last Supper"''' is the unofficial name of a promotional picture concocted by the [[SciFi Channel]] to promote the [[Re-imagined Series]]. It is one of the first promotional photos from the [[Season 4 (2008)|fourth season]] to be released to the general public, first making print in ''[[w:Entertainment Weekly|Entertainment Weekly]]'' with brief comments by series producer [[Ron Moore]]. It deliberately mirrors [[w:The Last Supper (Leonardo)|Leonardo's famous painting]].

== The "Clues" ==

Attached to the photo were comments from Moore, who provided descriptions of each character's pose and position in the picture, while claiming that each pose is significant and holds insights into upcoming events of Season 4. From left to right:

*President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] lights a fire: "She's burning something of importance that has to do with a plot turn midseason." This is resolved in "[[Sometimes a Great Notion]]:" Dejected after discovering Earth is a barren world, Roslin burns her copy of the [[Book of Pythia]].

*[[Saul Tigh]], missing eye turned towards the camera: "You might literally take that composition in terms of Tigh turning a blind eye."

*The [[Ellen Tigh|empty space at the table]]: "We have not yet revealed the final [unknown] Cylon." Does that mean the people already at the table ''aren't'' the final Cylon? Moore laughs. "You ferreted that out pretty slyly. I didn't really want to give that away." The clues here point to Ellen Tigh as the final Cylon. The empty space is right next to Saul Tigh, Ellen's husband. Tigh is looking directly at the unoccupied seat where his wife should be. The space is vacant because Ellen is supposedly dead. And on the table rests a cup similar to the one Ellen once drank a poisoned concoction from, resulting in her death.

*[[Lee Adama]] in civilian clothes: "He does not return to flight status."

*[[Gaius Baltar]] looks up to his [[Virtual Six]], who stands in the center of the picture: "Baltar's Six has proclaimed that she is delivering the gospel of the [Cylons'] [[God (RDM)|one true God]], so it seems natural to place her at the center of the photo.

*[[Kara Thrace]] and [[Samuel Anders]] in a sensual embrace: "[Note] that the only one embracing Starbuck is Anders."

*[[Galen Tyrol]], knife in hand, glares angrily: "The Chief does not have a pleasant time of it this season." His child with fellow grunt Cally would seem to be the second human-Cylon hybrid, and hints Moore, "one should consider the knife in his hand in that context."

*[[Natalie]] stands in commanding pose: "She assumes a leadership position for a group of Cylons [that have] a separate agenda from the rest of them."

*[[Sharon Agathon|Sharon]] and [[Karl Agathon]] cast a worried glance across the table: "The person they're looking at is definitely reacting." This may have been resolved in "[[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]"; they are looking frightened toward Natalie who is pointing accusatorilly in their general direction. In "Guess What's Coming to Dinner?", Sharon shoots Natalie when she believes the latter to be an immediate danger to Hera; Natalie dies of her injuries in the next episode.

*Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]] sits on the end of the table, as far as possible from President Roslin: "They're also turned toward each other."

== Dismissal ==

In light of massive fan speculation, [[Aaron Douglas]] (Tyrol) publicly dismissed the importance of the photo via his LiveJournal.

According to Douglas, Ron Moore was not present at the photo shoot, which was part of SciFi Channel's promotional material production phase. The actors were given general directions by the photographer and SciFi Channel staff, but interpreted their characters as they saw fit. This indicates that the photograph was created for marketing purposes, as multiple different versions of the shot were produced. It was likely meant to fuel speculation, and thus there is probably no deep meaning behind its composition. Douglas added that neither he nor any of the cast believe there is any significance to the photo. He further notes that none of the fan speculation based on the photo matches the story lines or events in the 13 hours<ref>This number includes the two-hour "[[Razor]]" television movie.</ref> that were filmed.<ref>{{cite_web|url=http://community.livejournal.com/aarondouglas/56259.html|title=The Chief's Deck: Last Supper and the Truth|date=10 January 2008|accessdate=25 January 2008|last=Douglas|first=Aaron|format=|language=}}</ref>

Further, attempts to analyze the photo have been met with incredulity from [[Katee Sackhoff]], who said: "It's interesting that everyone thinks there is something hidden in that Last Supper photo, like if you look hard enough, you can find a hidden message in it. To be honest, I think we [the cast] would have had to be in on it to create a hidden message, and we were all just there having a photo shoot."<ref>{{cite_web|url=http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/critics/blog/2008/03/a_da_vinci_code_for_battlestar.html|title=BaltimoreSun.com - Critical Mass - A Da Vinci Code for 'Battlestar Galactica'?|date=28 March 2008|accessdate=2 April 2008|last=Swift|first=Tim|format=|language=}}</ref>

== Defense ==

In light of the aforementioned comments, Ron Moore and Co-Executive Producer [[David Weddle]] came to the photo's defense.

From an 2 April 2008 interview that Maureen Ryan had with Moore:

: '''Maureen Ryan''': You have to know that the EW “Last Supper” photo of the Season 4 cast has been analyzed to death.

: '''RDM:''' I know. As soon as they said that’s what they wanted to do, I said, “Oh, that’s genius.” I was on the phone, “Let’s put him here, her here,” I spun out all these things. It was a lot of fun.

: '''MR:''' That was one question I had – you were the maestro orchestrating where people were and what they were doing, right? Everything in the photo is intentional, right?

: '''RDM:''' Mostly. I wasn’t on the set. They pitched me the idea on the phone, and asked if I had any ideas of what to do. I said, OK, yeah, let’s do this. I spun out the basic format and I think they embroidered a little on that when they were on the set.

: '''MR:''' Are there significant new characters this season?

: '''RDM:''' Nothing that comes to mind. [Mo here: Hmmm. But according to the EW “Last Supper” photo, there’s a new No. 6 model called Natalie. She assumes a leadership role for a group of Cylons with “a separate agenda,” Moore told the magazine.]

: '''MR:''' Just so I understand what I think you told EW for the story that went with the photo, none of the people in that photo is the final Cylon, right?
: '''RDM:''' Yeah. I said that. I probably shouldn’t have said that [laughs] but I have said that.
A further exchange with Maureen Ryan had her confirm that the text in brackets above was written by her, to summarize her view of what Moore was saying. However, she wrote Moore to confirm it, and he OKed her release of the following statement: ""Ron Moore confirmed to me that the final Cylon is not any of the people in the Last Supper photo."<ref>{{cite_web|url=http://ideas.4brad.com/battlestar/ron-moore-confirms-final-cylon-not-last-supper-photo|title='Ron Moore confirms final Cylon not in Last Supper photo'|date=21 June 2008}}</ref>

Additionally, a recent interview, Weddle added that: "You already know the answer to these questions [on who the "Last Cylon" is, the nature of Kara Thrace, etc.]. It's all right there [in the show]. Just examine every episode closely and the truth will emerge. Or break out a magnifying glass and go over that Last Supper photo one more time. Ron Moore laid it all out for you."<ref>{{cite_web|url=http://www.syfyportal.com/pagetogether.php?id=4887&page=4|title=SyFy Portal: 'Battlestar Galactica' Plan Subject To Change|date=2 April 2008|accessdate=2 April 2008|last=Hinman|first=Michael|format=|language=}}</ref>
== Updates to Image ==

After the initial posting, minor changes have begun to appear.
*The glass of water in front of [[Samuel Anders|Anders]] was half full. It switched at least by early May to a full glass.
*The flaming chalice in front of [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] disappeared in early May. Roslin, though, still holds the lit match.<ref>SciFi Forums. http://forums.scifi.com/index.php?showtopic=2307515&st=0. 10 May 2008 (accessed 30 May 2008).</ref>
*[[Virtual Six]]'s position has moved to the right slightly. There is no longer an overlap between Virtual Six and [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]].<ref>"Crazy Battlestar Galactica movie, webisode, and Last Supper photo news." http://www.popcritics.com/2008/05/crazy-battlestar-galactica-movie-webisode-and-last-supper-photo-news/. 20 May 2008 (accessed 30 May 2008).</ref> Virtual Six's prophesy to Baltar about a hybrid child being born in the cell presumably now refers not to the Agathons' child (who was carried but neither conceived nor born in the cell), but to the child of Baltar's former lover (and Virtual Six's most closely related/associated corporial Six, Caprica Six) and Saul Tigh; that child was, at least, conceived in the cell. Virtual Six's shift away from Baltar may be a reflection of the Tigh-Six relationship.
*Roslin has been completely removed from the image in one of the clues on the "You Will Know the Truth" site, but remains in the image on Scifi's Battlestar site.<ref>You Will Know the Truth promo site. http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/youwillknowthetruth/index.php?pageid=70. 2 December 2008.</ref>
*When the latter half of Season Four began airing, the image was replaced on the main page by pictures from upcoming episodes. Now that [[Daybreak, Part II]] has aired, the Last Supper has returned.

== Other uses==

The Last Supper forms the cover art for "The final Season" (R2 release of Season 4.5) DVD set. The front cover image is focused on Virtual Six, while inside the three slip cases display part of the image so that when the cases are placed together they form the entire picture.
'''''Galactica'' (BS 75)''' is a [[Galactica type battlestar|veteran battlestar]] and the last of her kind still in service with the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet]] at the time of the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|destruction of the Twelve Colonies]]. Built during the early days of the [[Cylon War]], she remains the only military vessel without integrated [[Computers|computer networks]]. Without networked computers, ''Galactica'' never upgrades to the new [[Command Navigation Program|integrated defense system software]] developed by Dr. [[Gaius Baltar]] and his [[Number Six|team]]. Because of this and other factors, she becomes one of only two known battlestars (the other being ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'') to survive the renewed Cylon attack on the [[Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]]. At the time of this attack, she was part of the 75th [[Battlestar Group]] (BSG-75).

== History ==

<div style="clear: both;"></div>

=== The First Cylon War ===
[[Image:Mini gal top.jpg|right|200px|thumb|A dorsal view of ''Galactica''. The starboard [[flight pod]] is covered by a window to form the [[Galactica Museum|museum area]].]]
''Galactica'' was one of the first twelve battlestars to be constructed by the Colonials, each representing one of the twelve colonies; ''Galactica'' represented [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]]. As such, she is some 50 years old. While solidly built, various factors during ''Galactica's'' construction led to the shipyard "cutting corners" when she was originally built, with various components not completed to spec ([[No Exit]]). Following the outbreak of Cylon hostilities several more battlestars were built. ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> first commander was named [[Nash]].

The original battlestars were all designed with non-integrated computer systems to avoid the Cylons' demonstrated ability to override or subvert networked command and control systems early in the war ([[Miniseries]]). Rather than technological sophistication, the battlestar depended on its sheer bulk and defensive / offensive capabilities to ward off any threats to itself or the Colonies.

After the [[Final Five|rather mysterious]] Cylon [[Armistice Station|armistice]], and their withdrawal from Colonial space, ''Galactica'' and her sister ships served the Twelve Colonies in a variety of roles. While her surviving sister ships were scrapped or upgraded to match the systems capabilities of newer Colonial vessels, ''Galactica'' continued in service without her systems being fully networked or integrated, making her unique among Colonial military vessels. '' Galactica'' was relegated to intra-system duties for at least 20 years prior to her decommissioning.<ref>This is inferred by [[Saul Tigh]] in his reaction to Commander Adama's decision for a [[FTL]] jump ([[Miniseries, Night 1]]).</ref>

=== Decommissioning ===
[[Image:Ragnar Escape.jpg|200px|right|thumb|''Galactica'' provides cover for civilian ships during the [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage]].]]
With her active career drawing to a close, a decision was taken to retire ''Galactica'' and decommission her from service. Colonial Fleet chose not to scrap her, but to turn her into a combination of living museum to the original Cylon War and an educational center, with her conversion being overseen by her final commander, [[William Adama]].

At the time of her formal decommissioning ceremony, ''Galactica'' is stripped of all but one of her operational [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] Mark VII squadrons, her munitions are destroyed, and her starboard landing pod is converted into a pressurized [[Galactica Museum|museum]] which houses (among other things) a full squadron of [[Viper Mark II|Mk. II Vipers]] as well as a Viper model that appears [[Viper (TOS)|older than the Mark II]] (Miniseries, also in deleted scenes).

<div style="clear: both;"></div>
=== Return of the Cylons ===
[[Image:Mini side fleet.jpg|thumb|right|200px|''Galactica'' and the [[fleet]].]]
With the renewed and unexpected Cylon hostilities, ''Galactica'' is quickly brought back to combat condition and sorties several Mark IIs retrieved from her museum, engaging in her first battle with the Cylons in over 40 years (all but one last Mark VII squadron were sent to Caprica for reassignment). She survives a direct hit by a tactical nuclear missile, and later [[FTL|jumps]] successfully to [[Ragnar Anchorage]] to replenish her empty ammunition stores at this strategic depot.

''Galactica'' emerges from the anchorage and engages one [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]] with her gun batteries, providing cover for [[The Fleet (RDM)|a fleet of 75 civilian ships]] harboring survivors of the Twelve Colonies. Once the entire civilian fleet successfully jumps away, and as a second basestar approaches to join the battle, ''Galactica'' recovers her remaining Vipers and jumps to the rendezvous point beyond the [[Red Line]], never to return to Colonial space ([[Miniseries]]).

<div style="clear: both;"></div>
[[Image:Ep212battle.jpg|200px|right|thumb|''Galactica'' and [[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]] work together during the [[Battle of the Resurrection Ship]].]]
Since the exodus of the Colonials from their overrun homeworlds, ''Galactica'' becomes both protector and provider for the Fleet. She provides covering fire for the Fleet during Cylon attacks no fewer than 240 times ("[[33]]", "[[Act of Contrition]]"). The battlestar provides much of the Fleet with recycled water ([[Water]]) and she is the primary source of medical care, where groups of civilians are periodically brought aboard for check-ups and treatment ([[Litmus]]). ''Galactica'' also undertakes internal policing duties within the Fleet ("[[Water]]", "[[Bastille Day]]").

''Galactica'' successfully goes on the offensive against the Cylons, capturing a [[tylium]] fuel mining and processing plant in the process ([[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]).

The [[Mercury class battlestar|advanced battlestar]] ''Pegasus'', commanded by Admiral [[Helena Cain|Cain]], joins ''Galactica'' approximately 6 months into their exile (See the series [[Timeline (RDM)|timeline]] for special information about this milestone). The two battlestars destroy two [[Basestar (RDM)|basestars]] as well as a critical Cylon support ship known as the [[Resurrection Ship]]. After Admiral Cain's death, President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] promotes William Adama to Admiral, restoring him to overall Fleet command, but now with two battlestars at his disposal ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]).

===New Caprica===
[[Image:Leaving New Caprica.jpg|thumb|right|200px|''Galactica'', ''Pegasus'', and the orbiting fleet prior to leaving [[New Caprica]].]]
Following the founding of [[New Caprica]], ''Galactica'' is assigned to the orbital defense force that protects the planet. During this time the majority of her crew are allowed to the surface in an effort to populate the planet and restore the human race, a majority of whom are seemingly convinced that the Cylons will never find New Caprica. The diminished crew inevitably results in standard maintenance becoming overlooked or ignored; basic military responses, such as the launching of alert fighters and routine training exercises become difficult to execute. One year following the founding of New Caprica, a fleet of Cylon ships jump into orbit of the planet. Severely limited in their abilities, Admiral Adama orders the defense fleet to jump away from New Caprica along with a handful of civilian ships still in orbit of the colony. They vow to eventually return to New Caprica and liberate it from the Cylon invaders ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

<div style="clear: both;"></div>

===[[Battle of New Caprica]]===
[[Image:BONC.jpg|thumb|right|200px|''Galactica'' takes a pounding during the [[Battle of New Caprica]].]]
Four months after their escape, ''Galactica'''s staff is still in the process of developing a rescue strategy with 16 training exercises having been completed and a 17th underway when an accident causes its early cessation ([[Occupation]]). This forces both a change in strategy and the reformulation of a rescue plan to deal with personnel who have not seen conflict in 16 months. While ''Galactica'' fights to liberate the Colonials on-planet, ''Pegasus'' is assigned to protect the remaining civilian fleet and continue its search for [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] ("[[Precipice]]", "[[Exodus, Part I]]").

After coordinating with the [[New Caprica Resistance]], ''Galactica'' leaves ''Pegasus'' to guard the space-bound members of humanity while it uses a series of drones to misdirect the bulk of the Cylon Raiders and avoid immediate detection by baseships, thus allowing the civilians on the planet to escape to their ships and flee New Caprica.

''Galactica'' then jumps into low orbit, plummeting from an altitude of 100,000 feet. As the ship falls, Admiral Adama orders the launch of all remaining Vipers. ''Galactica'' then jumps back into orbit. In the subsequent battle with the orbiting basestars, ''Galactica'' is overtaxed, out-gunned, and faces destruction when ''Pegasus'' unexpectedly arrives. ''Pegasus''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> salvos draw the attention of the basestars away from ''Galactica'', buying ''Galactica'' time to bring her [[FTL|FTL drives]] back on-line and escape, but at the cost of ''Pegasus''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> destruction ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

''Galactica'' bears the scars of the battle with significant scorching and dents to the hull. Nonetheless, the battlestar remains combat ready, holding off a superior Cylon force for a short duration in the [[Battle of NCD2539]] ([[A Measure of Salvation]]), and threatening to use its nuclear arsenal twice after New Caprica ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Crossroads, Part II]]"). Given the loss of ''Pegasus'', ''Galactica'' now boasts a larger crew, Viper and Raptor complement, to the point where there are more pilots than there are ships to fly ([[Torn]]), although the training of new recruits is still ongoing ("[[Dirty Hands]]", "[[Crossroads]]", "[[He That Believeth in Me]]"). Further, there are various redundancies between the two crews that are appropriately dealt with (e.g. [[Lee Adama]] in a [[List of Deleted Scenes - Season 3 (RDM)|deleted scene]] from "[[Exodus, Part II]]").

In "[[A Day in the Life]]", Colonel Tigh comments that ''Galactica'' took so much damage in this battle that it would "take six weeks in dry dock just to bang out the dents". This indicates that the damage is extensive enough to require a significant amount time (probably months) for full repair, and would be unlikely to survive a massive battle again.

=== Resuming the Search for Earth ===
''Galactica'' takes aboard a significant quantity of civilians following the exodus from New Caprica, as several civilian ships are lost during the escape from the failed colony. Cramped conditions increase as crew and civilians struggle to adapt to life back aboard a ship. The civilians reside on the refurbished starboard hangar deck as a refugee camp nicknamed "[[Camp Oil Slick]]" and later "Dogsville" ("[[Torn]]", "[[The Woman King]]").

During a [[The Passage|food shortage crisis]] caused by contamination of the Fleet's food processing systems, ''Galactica'' (along with her Raptors acting as pilot ships) guides the civilian Fleet through an area of intense heat, light and radiation caused by a [[Passage (star cluster)|dense star cluster]] to reach edible resources on the [[algae planet]]. ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> heavy armor and radiation shielding protect her from the intense effects of the cluster, but the ship still suffers hull damage and decompressions.

The ship confronts a Cylon fleet and barely escapes a nova during [[Eye of Jupiter|the events over the algae planet]], jumping out at the last moment after recovering its ground teams and additional data on a way-point to Earth known to the Colonials as the [[Ionian nebula]] ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Rapture]]"). Repairs continue on the journey to the Ionian nebula. Damage to one particular airlock nearly causes the deaths of Galen and Cally Tyrol during what they expected to be a quick repair of a hull micro-fracture ([[A Day in the Life]]).
[[Image:BOTIM.jpg|thumb|left|200px|''Galactica'' is outnumbered during the [[Battle of the Ionian Nebula]].]]
When the Fleet reaches the nebula, four Cylon baseships are detected following an unexplained power outage. With the entire Fleet crippled and unable to escape, ''Galactica'' scrambles her Vipers and prepares for a lopsided fight, outnumbered and outgunned ([[Crossroads, Part II]]). During the [[Battle of the Ionian Nebula|following battle]], ''Galactica'' manages to hold off the main attack of the massive Cylon attack force. Despite the damage suffered in previous engagements, the old warship wields her main guns and point defense batteries effectively again in defense of the Fleet. During the battle ''Galactica'' takes many hits while covering the Fleet although without crippling damage. Despite having the advantage, and managing to destroy or damage several civilian ships, the Cylons retreat in the middle of the battle, after detecting one of the [[Final Five]] among the Colonials ([[He That Believeth in Me]]).

''Galactica'' is once forced to prepare for a battle against the rebel [[Basestar (RDM)|Cylon basestar]], but the ''[[Demetrius]]'' arrives to defuse the situation. In the wake of the basestar disappearing from the Fleet ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]), [[Saul Tigh]] assumes command of ''Galactica'', jumping along with the Fleet ([[Sine Qua Non]]).

After [[Kara Thrace]] picks up a strange signal in [[Starbuck's Viper|her Viper]], the Colonials have a direct bearing towards Earth. Shortly later, after several years of searching, ''Galactica'' and her Fleet finally make the last jump to Earth ([[Revelations]]).

=== Post-Earth ===

After discovering [[Earth]] is a nuclear wasteland, discipline and morale on ''Galactica'' fall dramatically and the overall cleanliness of the ship suffers, e.g. outside [[CIC]], the words "Frak Earth" are spray-painted on the walls ([[Sometimes a Great Notion]]). When former deck chief [[Galen Tyrol]] disables the FTL drive, foiling the mutineers' escape with the ship, he discovers multiple tears in the chamber's walls, a sign that the aging battlestar's structural integrity is faltering ([[Blood on the Scales]]).
[[Image:Damaged Galactica.jpg|thumb|right|200px|A heavily damaged ''Galactica''.]]
A structural survey of the ship fins several torn supports and weakened areas in the hull, and a more in-depth examination finds endemic metal fatigue throughout the ship, with virtually every part of the hull riddled with small cracks and fissures.

''Galactica's'' advanced age, the corners cut during construction and the abuse it has been put through since the war started contributed to its condition. Tyrol suggests treating the damaged parts of the ship with an [[Cylon organic resin|organic Cylon resin]] from the [[Rebel Baseship]], which would fill the cracks and bear the stresses, which Adama at first refuses. However, Adama finally appreciates ''Galactica's'' dire condition when he finds a tear in a bulkhead in his quarters, and orders Tyrol to carry out his plan to repair the ship ([[No Exit]]). Tyrol later says that the resin will buy more time but the ship's integrity has been fundamentally weakened and it might not survive more FTL jumps- it is impossible to say how long she can hold. ''Galactica'' is dying of old age and accumulated battle damage.

Later ''Galactica'' is damaged even further when [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] jumps away very close to the hull. The resulting spatial distortion of her Raptor's FTL jump causes what appears to be buckling and explosive decompression in several sections of the alligator head of ''Galactica'' on her port side ([[Someone to Watch Over Me]]). This causes a chain reaction of explosions, structural failures and power outages throughout many parts of the ship including CIC.

At first refusing to accept the reality of the ship's fate, Admiral Adama gives the emotionally painful order to stop the repairs and begin the process of abandoning ship, moving to the Rebel Baseship as the Fleet's new flagship ([[Islanded In a Stream of Stars]]).

As the ship is slowly offloaded of parts and personnel, the Admiral relents one last time, stops the scrapping of the battlestar, and calls for volunteers for what will likely be a ''Galactica's'' final mission- to get the kidnapped Hera back from Cavil's Cylon colony ([[Daybreak, Part I]]).

=== Endgame: [[Battle of The Colony|Battle of The Colony]] ===

[[Image:Battleofthecolony.jpg|thumb|right|200px|right|''Galactica'' takes massive hits seconds after jumping to [[The Colony]].]]
With a skeleton crew and a frail battlestar, Admiral Adama executes a daring mission to rescue Hera Agathon.

''Galactica'' jumps to the Colony at point-blank range. Besieged by the Colony's gun batteries at first, the Hybrid Anders manages to take them and the Colony's Hybrids offline. As ''Galactica's'' Vipers engage incoming Raiders, her Raptors jump directly from their berth in the starboard [[flight pod]] (causing extensive damage to it) and maneuver to board the Colony.

Adama does the unbelievable: he rams ''Galactica's'' bow into the Colony, forming not only a second breech for his search teams to enter, but also forming an alternate escape route.

The rescue is successful, but ''Galactica'' is far from safe. The Raiders are still attacking the ship, destroying at least one of its remaining heavy gun batteries. The rescue teams are pursued back to ''Galactica'' by Cavil and his troops, determined to recapture Hera. Platoons of enemy Centurions swarm into the ship. Cavil personally leads an attack on CIC but is foiled.

Things appear to settle down after Cavil and Adama call a ceasefire. Cavil agrees to let ''Galactica'' leave with Hera in exchange for the information needed to bring back [[Resurrection (RDM)|resurrection technology]]. The Raiders return to the Colony, while the Vipers return to ''Galactica''. Unfortunately, as the Final Five begin to download their knowledge into the Colony, they are exposed to each other's secrets; Galen Tyrol learns that Tory Foster murdered his wife [[Cally Tyrol]] ([[The Ties That Bind]]). Tyrol flies into a rage and kills Foster, severing the download. Chaos ensues and the ceasefire ends. The Raiders renew their attack on the ship.

Meanwhile [[Racetrack]]'s Raptor, drifting in space after all aboard were killed, is hit by a stray asteroid, causing the Raptor to launch its nuclear missiles into the Colony. The Colony's orbit immediately decays, pulling it into the black hole--threatening to take ''Galactica'' with it. But Kara Thrace jumps the ship, using coordinates she had extrapolated from [[The Music]] at the last second.

<div style="clear: both;"></div>

=== Journey's End ===
[[File:Battlestar Over Africa.jpg|thumb|left|200px|right|A crippled ''Galactica'' seen in orbit over the Sahara Desert.]]
The jump proves to be too much for the heavily weakened battlestar. ''Galactica'' experiences a series of fatal structural failures, permanently losing her FTL ability. But fears of being stranded in space are short-lived as ''Galactica'' arrives in the vicinity of a lush, blue-green habitable world, already populated by tribes of primitive humans who naturally evolved there.
[[File:The fleet's end.jpg|thumb|200px|right|''Galactica'' and her fleet heading straight into the Sun.]]
The population of the Fleet, arriving later, agree to leave their technology behind and start new lives on the planet they decide to call "[[Earth (RDM)#A New Earth|Earth]]". The Rebel Cylons also decide to stay on the planet. With this decision, the Rebel Baseship is left to the Centurions, who leave to seek out their own destiny. Anders, still acting as ''Galactica's'' Hybrid, brings the battlestar's adventures to a close as he pilots ''Galactica'' and the last ships in the Fleet into the Sun.

<div style="clear: both;"></div>

== Equipment ==
Apart from any technological upgrades that may have been made to her sister ships, ''Galactica'' was built to the general technical specifications of her [[Galactica type battlestar|class]].

===Starboard Flight Pod===

The starboard landing bay is eventually restored to usable condition, evidenced when Major Lee Adama lands his Raptor in the starboard pod. However, it is possible that this is due to a previously issued quarantine order and not because the flight pod is in regular use ([[A Measure of Salvation]]). The starboard hangar deck is designated an [[Dogsville|area of refuge]] for civilians displaced from lost ships (The Woman King).

During the last mission of Galactica, this pod held a number of Raptor's ready for launch, these deployed out of the pod by FTL jump with the result that the shock waves fatally weakened the pods structure and the pod blew open to space. ([[Daybreak part 2]])

Strangely at least part of the museum setup survives all the way to Daybreak part 2, despite a hull breach and part of it being flattened by a heavy raider [[Scattered]]. It's unclear why the museum was kept intact and/or repaired, though it's possible it was put right during the year on New Caprica before the Cylon's found the planet, since this is probably the only period when the crew would have any spare time to fix it. This serves as a minor plot hole that may never be resolved.

The museum would certainly have been destroyed in the jump shock wave from the Raptor's leaving the pod during the [[Battle of the Colony]] or the decompression immediately after that point, any remains were sent into the sun with the rest of the ship.

===Nuclear Warheads===
[[Image:Galactica nukes.jpg|200px|thumb|''Galactica'''s nuclear arsenal.]]
''Galactica'' has five nuclear warheads as of "[[Bastille Day]]". Commander [[William Adama|Adama]] uses one warhead to destroy the Cylon [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]] orbiting Kobol ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]), and Dr. [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] cannibalizes one to use in his [[Cylon detector]]. He later gives the warhead to [[Gina Inviere]], who detonates it aboard ''[[Cloud Nine]]''.

It is unknown how many nuclear warheads ''Pegasus'' has when it encounters ''Galactica'', but the two ships pool their nuclear ordnance stockpiles after that. As of "[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", ''Galactica'' possesses at least seven warheads ([[missile tube]]s 4 through 10).

:''The yield of these weapons is unknown. It is likely they are of a "dial a yield" design which is common in real-life nuclear weapons. Because the physics of nuclear weapon design is a measurable science, and based on the size of the weapons seen on screen, the yield of ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> weapons may lie between 5 and 150 kilotons.''<ref>This is extrapolated from the size of the weapon, compared to a modern day ([[w:W80|W80]])-class nuclear warhead used by the United States.</ref>

===Vipers===
:''For information on the fighter squadrons stationed on ''Galactica'' see: [[Squadrons of Galactica]]''

[[image:1104Tube Mini.JPG|right|thumb|200px|A [[Viper Mark II]] in a launch tube.]]
[[image:Kg zoic-studio screen-caps-065.jpg|left|thumb|200px|A [[Viper Mark VII]] in the port [[Flight pod]].]]
Early in the flight of the fleet, ''Galactica'' carried "40 Vipers and 21 pilots" ([[Act of Contrition]]) , of which at least six were Mark VIIs. Following the advent of ''Pegasus'', ''Galactica'' receives supplies that aid in the repair and refurbishment of her initial fighter complement ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]). Some time later, new Mark VII Vipers are constructed at ''Pegasus''s' Viper construction facilities utilizing the raw ore mined in an asteroid belt ([[Scar]]), and several of those are assigned to ''Galactica''.

With ''Pegasus'' destroyed at the [[Battle of New Caprica]], ''Galactica'' absorbs the former's fighter squadrons and personnel, and her Viper complement now counts approximately 80 planes. <ref>Dialogue from "[[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]" and "[[Sine Qua Non]]" establishes that 40 Vipers have been transferred to a Cylon basestar, which comprises half the ship's air wing.</ref>

<div style="clear: both;"></div>

===Raptors===
[[image:Raptor port.jpg|right|thumb|200px|A [[Raptor]].]]
The number of [[Raptor|Raptors]] available to ''Galactica'' is portrayed inconsistently. The assumption prior to joining up with ''Pegasus'' is that the battlestar has at least five Raptors, having left [[Ragnar Anchorage]] with at least eight. After the Battle of New Caprica, ''Galactica'' takes on ''Pegasus''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> Raptors. The subsequent number of available craft is unknown, but is at least 30, considering how many Raptors are deployed to rescue to the resistance fighters on Caprica ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]) and still have enough to move people from ship to ship through out the fleet.

<div style="clear: both;"></div>

===Other Craft===
[[image:Blackbird FotP.JPG|right|thumb|200px|The [[Blackbird]], a special stealth ship, was construted on ''Galactica''.]]
[[image:AtmoShutt.jpg|right|thumb|200px|One of ''Galactica'''s [[Atmospheric shuttle| shuttle]] craft.]]
*''Galactica'' possesses two [[Heavy Raider]]s. One is hit by ''Galactica''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s defensive fire and crashes into the starboard flight pod with unknown, but probably extensive, damage ([[Scattered]]). The other returns in operational status from [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] ([[Home, Part I]]). One of these Heavy Raiders is relieved of its FTL navigation system for use on the rescue mission to Caprica ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]).
* A Raider from the first Cylon War may be on board ''Galactica'' after one follows Starbuck into one of ''Pegasus''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> landing bays and is shot down ([[Razor]]). A Cylon War era Raider, or at least a replica of one, was present in the [[Galactica Museum]], but has not been mentioned since.
*A second [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Raider]] comes into ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> possession after [[Daniel Novacek]]'s "escape" from a basestar, replacing the one retrieved by [[Kara Thrace]] and lost during the quest for the [[Arrow of Apollo]] ([[Hero]]).
*An experimental stealth fighter, the [[Blackbird]], is constructed using spare parts ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]) and used in a critically successful reconnaissance mission to explore the nature of what comes to be known as the [[Resurrection Ship]]. The Blackbird is destroyed after completing its [[Battle of the Resurrection Ship|first combat mission]] ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]).
*''Galactica'' possesses [[fuel tanker]]s used to supply fuel to Vipers and Raptors in flight without the need to dock with the ship. These may be dedicated craft or specially fitted shuttles or Raptors ([[Occupation]]).

<div style="clear: both;"></div>

== Crew ==
:''For a list of marines, see: [[Colonial Marine Corps]]''

Before the attack, ''Galactica'' has approximately 2,900 crewmen. By the time of the arrival of ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', attrition has reduced this number to about 2,660. (c.f. [[Crew tally]])
It is unknown whether the Colonial Marines account for members or not.
*Between "[[Act of Contrition]]" and "[[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]" ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> offensive capability is also greatly hampered by the number of [[List of Pilots|qualified pilots]] available, and their lack of flight simulators with which to train more. Since ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> reunion with ''Pegasus'', this has ceased to be an issue ([[Scar]]).

== History ==

''Galactica'' was one of the first twelve battlestars to be constructed by the Colonials, each representing one of the twelve colonies; ''Galactica'' represented [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]]. As such, she is some 50 years old. While solidly built, various factors during ''Galactica's'' construction led to the shipyard "cutting corners" when she was originally built, with various components not completed to spec.([[No Exit]]) Following the outbreak of Cylon hostilities several more battlestars were built. ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> first commander was named [[Nash]].
[[Image:Mini gal top.jpg|left|thumb|A dorsal view of ''Galactica''. The starboard [[flight pod]] is covered by a window to form the [[Galactica Museum|museum area]].]]

After the [[Armistice Station|armistice]] with the Cylons, and their withdrawal from Colonial space, ''Galactica'' and her sister ships served the Twelve Colonies in a variety of roles. While her surviving sister ships were scrapped or upgraded to match the systems capabilities of newer Colonial vessels, ''Galactica'' continued in service without her systems being fully networked or integrated, making her unique among Colonial military vessels. Galactica was relegated to intra-system duties for at least 20 years prior to her decommissioning.

[[Image:Ragnar Escape.jpg|right|thumb|''Galactica'' provides cover for the civilian ships during the [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage]].]]
[[Image:Mini side fleet.jpg|thumb|right|180px|''Galactica'' and the [[fleet]].]]

''Galactica'' also undertakes internal policing duties within the Fleet ("[[Water]]", "[[Bastille Day]]").[[Image:Ep212battle.jpg|left|thumb|''Galactica'' and [[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]] work together during the [[Battle of the Resurrection Ship]].]]

===New Caprica===
[[Image:Leaving New Caprica.jpg|thumb|right|180px|''Galactica'', ''Pegasus'', and the orbiting fleet prior to leaving [[New Caprica]].]]
The diminished staff inevitably results in standard maintenance becoming overlooked or ignored; basic military responses, such as the launching of alert fighters and routine training exercises become difficult to execute.

===[[Battle of New Caprica]]===
[[Image:BONC.jpg|thumb|right|180px|''Galactica'' takes a pounding during the [[Battle of New Caprica]].]]

===Resuming the search for Earth===

[[Image:BOTIM.jpg|thumb|right|180px|''Galactica'' is outnumbered during the [[Battle of the Ionian Nebula]].]]

===Post-Earth===

[[Image:Damaged Galactica.jpg|thumb|right|180px|A heavily damaged ''Galactica''.]]

[[Image:Battleofthecolony.jpg|thumb|right|180px|right|''Galactica'' takes massive hits seconds after jumping to [[The Colony]].]]
=== ''Galactica's'' Final Mission: [[Battle of The Colony|The Battle of The Colony]] ===

Cavil agrees to let ''Galactica'' leave with Hera in exchange for the information needed to bring back Resurrection Technology. The Raiders return to the Colony, while the Vipers return to ''Galactica''. Unfortunately, when the Final Five begin downloading their knowledge into the Colony, they are exposed to each other's secrets. Specifically, Galen Tyrol learns that Tory Foster murdered his wife Cally. Tyrol flies into a rage and kills Tory, severing the download.

=== Journey's End ===
[[File:Battlestar Over Africa.jpg|thumb|left|180px|right|A crippled ''Galactica'' seen in orbit over the Sahara Desert.]]

The jump proves to be too much for the heavily weakened battlestar. ''Galactica'' experiences a series of fatal structural failures, permanently losing her FTL ability. But fears of being stranded in space are short-lived as ''Galactica'' arrives in the vicinity of a lush, blue-green habitable world, already populated by tribes of primitive humans.
[[File:The fleet's end.jpg|thumb|180px|right|''Galactica'' and her fleet heading straight into the Sun.]]
The population of the Fleet, arriving later, agree to leave their technology behind and start new lives on the planet they decide to call "Earth".

== Equipment ==
Barring any technological upgrades that may have been made to other ships of [[Galactica type battlestar|her class]], ''Galactica'' shares the same overall technical specifications as other original Colonial battlestars.

===Starboard Flight Pod===

===Nuclear Warheads===
[[Image:Galactica nukes.jpg|thumb|''Galactica'''s nuclear arsenal.]]

===Vipers===
:''For information on the fighter squadrons stationed on ''Galactica'' see: [[Squadrons of Galactica]]''

Prior to the arrival of ''Pegasus'', ''Galactica'' carries a maximum thirty-four Vipers, of which at least six are Mark VIIs.

===Raptors===
The subsequent number of available craft is unknown, but is at least 20, considering how many Raptors are deployed to rescue to the resistance fighters on Caprica ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

===Other Craft===
*''Galactica'' currently possesses two [[Heavy Raider]]s.

== Crew ==
:''For information on Senior Staff, see : [[Senior Staff of Galactica]]''
:''For a list of pilots, see: [[List of Pilots]]''

== Overview ==

Capable of atmospheric flight, the Viper Mark II is a single-seat craft possessing two kinetic energy weapons ([[Weapons in the Re-imagined Series#Viper and Cylon Raider|KEW]]s). Hard-points beneath the wings allow missiles, munitions pods and other ordnance to be mounted ([[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]).

The Viper Mark I entered Colonial service shortly before the outbreak of the [[Cylon War]].{{citation needed}} However, it is this Mark II variant (designed specifically for use with the Colonial [[Galactica type battlestar|battlestars]]) that has garnered the most recognition. The fighter served with distinction throughout the Cylon War, proving to be a capable fighting vehicle and winning renown across the [[Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]]; the Mark II is regarded as instrumental in ensuring that the Colonials did not lose the original Cylon War <ref>Its iconic status is not unlike that of the real world [[wikipedia:Supermarine_Spitfire|Supermarine Spitfire]], which is held in great esteem in the countries where it served - particularly Great Britain. Many Spitfires are preserved today as museum pieces, just as the Mk. II Vipers were aboard ''Galactica''.</ref>.

The Mark II remained in service after the end of the conflict, but was subsequently superseded by newer models. At the time of the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon holocaust]], the sleek [[Viper Mark VII|Mark VII]] is the front-line variant of the Viper design. It retains the Mark II's general layout, but utilizes fully networked systems to provide superior battle management and combat information for the pilot.

Seemingly similar to the Cylon Raider in performance as well as weaponry, a Mark II is capable of holding its own against many times its number of Raiders in the hands of a seasoned pilot. ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki>s Viper contingent regularly fights off large Raider wings; in one particular instance, [[Kara Thrace]] defeats eight Raiders [[Hot Dog|almost single-handedly]] ([[Act of Contrition]]).

== [[Computers#Avionics|Avionics]] ==

:''Main article: [[Computers in the Re-imagined Series#Vipers and Raptors|Computers in the Re-imagined Series]]''

[[Image:Vipermk2interior3 104 1080i.jpg|left|thumb|200px|Mark II main instrument panel]]
As part of its use in the [[Cylon War]], the Mark II was initially designed to resist Cylon attempts at disabling or damaging its flight controls <ref>The joystick used in the Mark II is a replica of real-life F/A-18 Hornet and F-15 Eagle</ref>. Given the number of analog gauges and controls, its likely that the Mark II was intended to be flown entirely without computer assistance in fear of compromise by an electronic attack. Nevertheless, a simple computer to manage the flight systems is present in the cockpit, assisting the pilot's [[Mark One Eyeball]]. Some gauges, such as the altimeter, are used only in atmospheric flight.

== Armament ==

:''Main article: [[Weapons in the Re-imagined Series#Viper and Cylon Raider|Weapons in the Re-imagined Series]]''

The Mark II's main weapon are two wing-mounted cannons. Additionally, it can be equipped with several missiles, carried under the fuselage ("[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]", "[[Home, Part II]]").

== Layout ==
[[Image:Viper Mk II orthos.jpg|right|thumb|Fore, side, top and aft views of the Mark II]]
The Mark II is a long, sleek vehicle with specialized features for space attacks, reconnaissance, and atmospheric flight.

The fore section comprises the nose back to the cockpit. Located there are the forward [[RCS]] systems for maneuvering the craft; the forward landing gear; the main [[avionics]] and sensor packages and the single-seat cockpit.

The stern comprises the main engines, numerous RCS maneuvering jets, fuel tanks, wings and vertical stabilizer. The wings themselves contain the kinetic energy weapons, their munitions storage and feeds. Mounting points beneath the wings allow missiles, munitions pods and other items to be rack-mounted ([[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]).

The wing's roots contain the main landing gear, retracted during flight. The Mark II's shape is distinctive because of the offset "intakes" mounted just behind the cockpit. The port / starboard "intakes" incorporate small but powerful reverse thrust engines that can quickly counter a Viper's forward momentum in an emergency ([[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]).

== Performance ==

The Mark II can rotate 180 degrees vertically in .35 seconds ([[Act of Contrition]])

Given 30 days in hack for unauthorized discharge of a firearm, she is lauded by her fellow crew members as a hero after he release. After reconciling with Galen Tyrol, their repaired relationship eventually amounts to a romantic one after Tyrol (suffering from suicidal dreams) savagely attacks Henderson after being awakened.

Henderson marries Tyrol, taking on his family name, and both muster out of the Colonial Fleet to settle on [[New Caprica]] in order to raise their son, [[Nicholas Tyrol]]. While on New Caprica, she is a part of the [[Colonial Workers Alliance]], a labor union lead by Galen Tyrol. However, the [[Cylon Occupation Authority|Cylons' occupation]] of New Caprica destroys any dreams she had of a life on New Caprica: she is nearly executed as an [[New Caprica Resistance|"insurgent"]], but is later freed and returns to ''Galactica'' after the [[Second Exodus]].

Life on ''Galactica'', particularly with a child to take care of, causes strife within her marriage to Galen Tyrol. Additionally, she is the driving force into convincing Galen Tyrol to [[Dirty Hands|re-institute the Colonial Workers Alliance]] and press for an illegal strike. Unbeknownst to her, she is nearly executed by [[Marines]] at Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]]'s orders, under the charge that she is a mutineer. Later, despite [[A Day in the Life|an incident]] where she is nearly killed, the Tyrols try to save their marriage and put their family's interests first.

These efforts fail however, leaving Henderson Tyrol to take care of the child, which resorts on sleeplessness and dependence on anti-depressants and other medications. This strain is due to the revelation that Galen Tyrol is a Cylon, a fact Henderson Tyrol discovers after following her husband to a [[Weapons Locker 1701D|weapons locker]]. After beating Galen Tyrol with a wrench, she attempts to kill Nicholas and herself by decompressing a [[launch tube (RDM)|launch tube]]; [[Tory Foster]], one of the [[Final Five]], intervenes and manages to save Nicholas, but ejects Henderson Tyrol into space. The crew on ''Galactica'' assumes that Henderson Tyrol committed suicide.

==Background==

Callandra Henderson is a young woman who joined the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet]] as a means to pay for dental school ([[Fragged]]). Henderson is not fond of [[FTL]] jumps ([[Miniseries]]), possibly because she suffers nausea during them ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]).

Henderson, as well as her boss, Galen Tyrol, seems prone to anger after a terrible event. Unlike Tyrol, Henderson tends to take decisive action as a result of her anger, rather than becoming immobile or overly irrational.

She is particularly adept at finding ways around the lack of replacement parts aboard ''Galactica''. As Tyrol often comments, Henderson's small stature allows her better access to smaller spaces in the [[Viper (RDM)|Vipers]] and [[Raptor]]s she repairs.

==Character History at a Glance==

*Henderson (who is never called by her surname until Season 4) is a deckhand aboard the [[Galactica type battlestar|battlestar]] ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'', working under the supervision of Chief [[Galen Tyrol]] at the time of the battlestar's [[Galactica Museum|scheduled decommissioning]].
*Henderson is attached to [[Deck Crew 5]] and responsible for [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] and [[Raptor]] maintenance ([[Miniseries]]).
*Henderson survives the initial attacks to ''Galactica'' in the wake of the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]], but loses many friends, including [[Prosna]], a fellow deckhand, after the battlestar manages fire damage after being struck by a nuclear missile.
*During an ill-fated mission to the ''[[Astral Queen]]'', Henderson is nearly raped by prisoner [[Mason]]. He shoots her after she bites his ear off in defense. Henderson is returned to ''Galactica'''s [[sickbay]] for treatment, where she is given the nickname "Specialist Lazy" in jest by her comrades ([[Bastille Day]]).
*Along with the rest of the deck crew, Henderson lies under oath to protect Chief Tyrol during a tribunal on a Cylon infiltration and attack ([[Litmus]]).
*For the next several weeks, Henderson assists Chief Tyrol in examining the [[You Can't Go Home Again|captured]] Cylon Raider brought aboard ''Galactica'' ([[Six Degrees of Separation]]).
*On a Raptor Scout team bound for [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]). Henderson's Raptor is attacked upon emerging from a [[FTL|Jump]], resulting in a crash on Kobol. As one of the few that was relatively unhurt, Henderson later returns to the crash site with Chief Tyrol and [[Tarn]], and barely makes it back alive with a forgotten [[medkit]] for [[Socinus]] ([[Scattered]]). However, the recovered medkit is too late to save Socinus, which greatly saddens Henderson ([[Valley of Darkness]]).
*[[Crashdown]] gives Henderson an assuredly suicidal order as part of his attack to disable a Cylon anti-missile battery that threatens their expected [[SAR]] rescue. Henderson is so terrified that she freezes in place. Losing control, Crashdown threatens to shoot her if she does not obey. Just before Crashdown shoots Henderson, Dr. [[Gaius Baltar]] shoots him in the back, killing Crashdown instantly.
*[[Diana Seelix|Seelix]] is shot in their retreat, but Henderson saves her life by carrying her further ahead. A rescue team of Raptors arrives, and Henderson returns to ''Galactica'' with the survivors ([[Fragged]]).
*Henderson's anger transfers to [[Gaius Baltar]] when [[Galen Tyrol|the Chief]] is arrested and accused of being a Cylon himself due to his past relationship with [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]], and threatens to reveal Baltar's part in Crashdown's death if Baltar does not act to clear Tyrol's name.
*Outraged by Tyrol's plight, Henderson shoots and kills Boomer ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]). Henderson is imprisoned in the [[brig]] but, at Tyrol's request, Commander Adama gives her a lenient sentence of 30 days for "discharging a firearm without permission" ([[The Farm]]).
[[image:Flight_of_the_phoenix-Welcome_Back.jpg|thumb|left|Various crew members throw a party for Henderson's return to normal service.]]
*Released from the brig, the deck crews give Henderson a welcome back party. Chief Tyrol is still upset with her for killing Boomer, although Henderson is grateful to the Chief for putting in a good word for her with Adama.
*She aids Tyrol in the construction of the [[Blackbird]]. By the time they finish construction, Tyrol reconciles with her ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).
*Henderson is disgusted when several drunken ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' crewmen brag about repeatedly raping the captured [[humanoid Cylon]] known as [[Gina]], a reaction probably made stronger for her because Henderson herself survived an [[Bastille Day|attempted rape]].
*Henderson pleads with [[William Adama|Commander Adama]] to do something about the incident where Chief Tyrol and [[Helo]] are arrested by ''Pegasus'' command for the death of an officer that attempted to rape [[Sharon Agathon|Caprica-Valerii]] ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).
*After Commander Adama visits the hangar deck to confer with [[Laird]] on the status of the preparations for the [[Battle of the Resurrection Ship|planned attack]], Adama takes Henderson aside and questions her about Laird. Henderson reveals Laird's origins that enforce Adama's increasing suspicions about ''Pegasus'' commander, Admiral [[Helena Cain]].
*Henderson and Chief Tyrol later discover sabotaged Viper ammo by the Cylon-sympathizer [[Demand Peace]] movement ([[Epiphanies]]) as well as a storage crate with a [[Rya Kibby|stowaway]] inside ([[The Captain's Hand]]).
*Henderson wakes a sleeping Chief Tyrol up while he was in the midst of a suicidal nightmare. The delusional Tyrol gives Henderson a savage beating, quickly pummeling her into a bloody mess and knocking her unconscious. After a moment, Tyrol comes to his senses, shocked by what he had just done, and takes Henderson to sickbay, carrying her in his arms ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]).
*Henderson's jaw is wired shut to heal, but she forgives Tyrol and says she always cared about him. Interestingly, her feelings for Tyrol were apparently known to [[Cavil]] prior to his exposure as a humanoid Cylon ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]).

==On New Caprica==
[[Image:Cally UnfinBusiness.JPG|thumb|Henderson on New Caprica before becoming obviously pregnant ([[Unfinished Business]]).]]
A year later on [[New Caprica]], Henderson is married to Tyrol (taking his surname) and is pregnant with [[Brendan Costanza]]'s child ([[A Disquiet Follows My Soul]]), although she has led Galen Tyrol to believe he is the father ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). Her son, [[Nicholas Tyrol|Nicholas]] (named after her grandfather), is born and lives with her and her husband as of the 67th day of the New Caprica occupation by the Cylons ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance#Episode 1|The Resistance, Episode 1]]). Knowing her husband's test of faith after discovering that Brother [[Cavil]] was a humanoid Cylon, Tyrol is pleased for plans of a [[dedication ceremony]] for her new son ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance|The Resistance, Episode 4]]).

Following suicide attacks by the insurgency led in part by her husband, Cally Tyrol is picked up by members of the [[New Caprica Police]] in a night-time raid. [[James Lyman|James "Jammer" Lyman]], in his role with the NCP, discovers that she has been earmarked for execution, and asks [[Sharon Valerii]] to save her life. Valerii remarks that she does not know what she can do, as internal security is under the proviso of a different ministry. Henderson angrily tells Valerii to "go away and leave us alone" if she can't help her ([[Precipice]]).

Lyman later cuts her bonds and allows her to escape from the detention group slated for execution in a remote location. Chief Tyrol, arriving with a resistance sniper team, pushes his running wife out of the resistance's line of fire as they destroy the [[Cylon Centurion]] firing squad. She and her son hide in the resistance's underground bunker ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

==After New Caprica==

Cally Tyrol and her family are [[Exodus, Part II|evacuated]] along with most of the human population of [[New Caprica]]. She is next seen resting on a bunk with her son in a room overcrowded with refugees. Her husband visits her after he and the [[Circle]] secretly execute [[James Lyman]] for having collaborated with the Cylons. Before his death, Lyman tells Galen that he saved his wife on the planet. When Galen inquires as to how she escaped the execution and if anyone helped her, she replies that [[New Caprica Police|"one of these goons"]] set her free. She asks her husband how he knows about that, apparently unaware of his role in the Circle ([[Collaborators]]). Later she is working alongside Chief Tyrol on the hangar deck again. It is unknown specifically who babysits their son Nicholas when both parents are working ([[Torn]]), but formal daycare arrangements seems to have been established for families with dependent children ([[A Day In The Life]]) that the Tyrols use.

Tyrol attends the ship-wide boxing match with her husband and son and watches from the sidelines as her husband fights and defeats Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]] ([[Unfinished Business]]). She recovers from [[w:Decompression sickness|decompression sickness]] injuries sustained in an explosive decompression incident while being rescued from a depressurizing airlock along with her husband ([[A Day In The Life]]).

==Death==

Tyrol's relationship with her husband deteriorates as he becomes consumed with his discovery, unknown to her, that he is a Cylon. She grows angry at his constant absence, some of which is due to his meeting with fellow Cylons [[Tory Foster|Foster]], [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]], and [[Samuel Anders|Anders]]. Moreover, she develops a sleeping disorder and becomes reliant on medication. Awakening one night to find him out of bed and out of their quarters, she finds him in [[Joe's bar]] with Foster and witnesses Foster making a pass at him. Tyrol confronts him in a rage, assuming that he is having an affair.

Later, she finds a note in their cabin with instructions for a time and place for a meeting. Thinking that it is a note from Foster, she goes to the place of the rendezvous, only to discover her husband, Tigh, and Foster going into a weapons locker together and closing the hatch. She opens a panel in the corridor and squeezes into a crawlspace where she can hear what her husband and the others are saying. To her horror, she discovers that her husband is a Cylon. She makes a noise, which the others hear. In her flight from the crawlspace, Tyrol leaves the wall panel ajar, which Foster discovers. When Galen returns to their cabin, she knocks him unconscious with a heavy wrench and then takes [[Nicholas Tyrol|Nicky]] to the [[hangar deck]], intending to commit murder-suicide by expelling him and herself out a Viper [[launch tube]]. Before she can do so, Foster shows up, convinces her to stop, and then offers to carry Nicky. As soon as Tyrol turns her son over, however, Foster knocks her down and takes Nicky into the control room, from which she expels Tyrol into space. The scene ends with a final shot of Tyrol's frozen, dead face drifting in space ([[The Ties That Bind]]). Her husband, for now, is unaware of Foster's role in Cally's death and believes Cally committed suicide because of her mistaken belief that he and Foster were having an affair. ("[[Escape Velocity]]")

During the [[Battle of the Colony]] Galen briefly links memories with the other Final Five members, this allows him to see the truth of what Foster did and he executes her by breaking her neck. Though this is problematic at a critical point (since it betrays a bargain made with [[Cavil]] to end the war, no one holds it against Tyrol and Cally is avenged.

==Notes==
*Cally's full name was not known during the first 2 seasons of the series (even though she is a character that has appeared since the opening minutes of the Miniseries), and during this entire time was known simply as "Cally". It was unknown then whether "Cally" was her given name or her surname; many assumed it was her surname and referred to her as "Specialist Cally" (in "[[The Farm]]", Chief Tyrol referred to her as "Specialist Cally"). However, actress Nicki Clyne, who plays Cally, has said she always thought of it as her character's given name. Her full name "Cally Henderson" was used in Season 3 to label props such as her locker, but isn't visible on screen. She took on Chief [[Galen Tyrol]]'s surname after marrying him. After the character's death, Henderson's complete birth name, Callandra, is revealed at her funeral service in "[[Escape Velocity]]".

*The [[Miniseries]] novelization (which is treated as a [[Battlestar Wiki:Separate continuity|separate continuity]] source) gives her full name as "[[Jane Cally]]". However this was made up without the input of the BSG writing team, who later decided that Cally was actually her ''first'' name. The novel ''[[Sagittarius Is Bleeding]]'', meanwhile, gives her name as Callista Henderson.

*According to [[Ronald D. Moore]]'s blog, Henderson's term of required service ended at the same time that ''Galactica'' was to be decommissioned. She was about to be honorably discharged and return to civilian life when the Cylons attacked, ending those plans.

*In the DVD commentary for "[[Bastille Day]]", David Eick and Ron D. Moore elaborate on the increased role of Cally as the series progressed from the Miniseries through season 2:

:Eick: Nicki Clyne, who you see here playing Cally, was somebody who in the Miniseries, I remember Michael (Rymer) and I cast just on the basis of her look, 'cause we thought she was really cute, she kind of reminded us of a young [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001167/ Shelley Duvall]. [...] she turned out to be so good that we— in launching the series we started talking about ways to involve her and I'm very proud of a moment coming up where she does something rather nasty, that...
:RDM: Well she almost died! '''She was gonna die in the intial drafts of this'''.
:Eick: That's right! He kills her! He rapes and kills her! And they're telling us we're too dark ''this'' year.
:RDM: Oh, I know. The second season is so much darker. And I don't think they even care. Yeah, Cally, Nicki, I hate to tell ya, but the bullseye was on Nicki here. And I can't even tell you why we decided it was, no I take that back I think it was your note; you said you wanted Cally to fight back and really show some balls in this scene. She bit his ear off...
:Eick: I said, "She bites his frakking ear off" and I was totally being...you know, just ''illustrative''! I didn't really mean it!
:RDM: And I wrote, "she bites his ear off"!
:Eick: "And I got the draft, and she bites his ear off! I was like "that's great!"
:RDM: '''And from that moment on, I think, she really became part of the show'''. In a real sense, once she had gone through that and survived, and you know Tyrol and the gang come in and see her in the hospital at the end you kind of felt like she is one of the family.
:Eick: Yeah, and she's taken on, in season 2 actually, a much, much, ''much'' more prominent role. You have no idea how prominent a role.
:RDM: Which is really illustrative of the rise and fall of characters. I mean [[Boxey (RDM)|Boxey]] we thought going in was just going to be part of the show, and we just never really got our feet underneath us in terms of his storyline and really how it fit into it, and Cally who's just this 'other mechanic' at the beginning, who's just hanging around with Tyrol becomes a key element and part of the fabric of the show itself.
*In the DVD commentary for "Bastille Day", RDM revealed how he came up with names for deckhands Cally, [[Socinus]], and [[Prosna]]: "They were all names I pulled out of an 'ancient names internet site'. I literally, I found something on the internet that would give me like 'ancient names', I went through it and found ''those'' names. It was like ancient Greek and Roman...somethings. They might be, for all I know they're names for utensils, or something like that..."
**"Calli" is a word from ancient Greek, meaning "beautiful".

'''''Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far''''' is a special program aired on the [[Sci Fi Channel]] that summarizes the first two seasons of the [[Re-imagined Series]]. The special was intended to attract new viewers and offers no new content for frequent viewers of the series.
<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.thefutoncritic.com/pr.aspx?id=20060809scifi01|title=The Futon Critic|accessdate=2006-08-11}}</ref>

On the evening of August 13, 2006, NBC affiliates on the U.S. West Coast broadcast the special following the Cincinnati-Washington [http://www.nfl.com NFL football game]. The program was aired repeatedly on the Sci-Fi Channel in August/September 2006 prior to the [[Occupation|Season 3 premiere]].

Narrated by actress [[Mary McDonnell]] (voicing the narration in her character of [[Laura Roslin]]), ''The Story So Far'' ignores several supporting and significant story arcs and character developments in the interest of the program's limited 43 minute air time.

Significant information missing from the special program include:

*The trials of [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] while marooned on Caprica in Season 1
*The arrival of the battlestar ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' and [[William Adama|Adama]]'s conflict with its commander, Admiral [[Helena Cain|Cain]]
*The relationship between [[Galen Tyrol]] and [[Sharon Valerii]]
*The presidential coup that leads to the arrest of Laura Roslin, the declaration of martial law and the temporary splitting of the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]].
*Any reference to [[Billy Keikeya]], a central supporting character in Season 1

The feature provides two possible answers to questions posed in the series:
*The civilians who were left behind with Helo on Caprica, died due to radiation poisoning.
*Crewmembers who suspect Boomer of being a Cylon wrote the word on her mirror in "[[Six Degrees of Separation]]".

Areas that attempt to plot significant events of the show include a recap of the Miniseries in the program's first twenty minutes, a synopsis of the first season by the half-hour mark, and generally concise information on Season 2. Several scenes are generally shuffled out of their aired timeline to explain important relationships.

The program was available in several online venues for free viewing, including [http://www.apple.com/itunes the iTunes Store] (iTunes software required). It is also included on the UK [[Battlestar Galactica - Season Three (Region 2 DVD)|Season 3 DVD set]], as well as the UK DVD releases of several other shows <ref>For example ''Heroes'' Episode One, (which also included the ''Seaquest DSV'' pilot.) Intended to promote the show prior to the release of the first ''Heroes'' boxset including the special and the pilot probably served as advertising for all three shows</ref>.

It is also included on the UK [[Battlestar Galactica - Season Three (Region 2 DVD)|Season 3 DVD set]], as well as the UK DVD releases of several other shows <ref>For example ''Heroes'' Episode One, (which also included the ''Seaquest DSV'' pilot.) Intended to promote the show prior to the release of the first Heroes boxset Including the special probably served as advertising for all shows</ref>.

Sometime during the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]](given the complete surprise shown by the defenders probably at the very moment the war began), the Cylons lead an attack on the [[Scorpion Fleet Shipyards]]. Utilizing numerous [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Raider]] squadrons armed with nuclear missiles, they destroy at least three battlestars and several support vessels.

''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' is docked at the shipyards, and about to undergo a three-month systems overhaul, when the attack occurs. In preparation for the refit, all computer networks are shut down, leaving the battlestar largely unaffected by Cylon infiltration of the [[Command Navigation Program]]. As the attack occurs, Colonel [[Jurgen Belzen|Belzen]] reports that all computers are down and that the crew must perform all functions manually.

While tethered to its dock, ''Pegasus'' is swarmed by Raiders and struck by several missiles. Fuel and ordnance ignites on the battlestar's hangar decks, leading to explosions that cause over 700 casualties. Subsequently, Admiral [[Helena Cain|Cain]] orders the bow reverse thrusters to be fired and the ship tears itself free from the umbilicals of the burning shipyard.

With ''Pegasus''' defenses still down, and two nuclear missile inbound, Cain determines that a hasty departure is their only means of survival. She orders the [[CIC]] crew to spin up the [[FTL]] drive, and to perform a [[blind jump]] on her command. "Wherever. Anywhere. Just jump", Cain recounts to Commander [[William Adama|Adama]] and President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] in a conversation shortly after ''Galactica'' is tracked down by ''Pegasus'', several months later.

Cain's blind jump is a success primarily because ''Pegasus'' escapes the Cylons, but also because the ship avoids colliding with a celestial body - an event not unlikely when jumping without predetermined coordinates. Additionally (and ironically), the very weapons meant to destroy them aid Cain and her crew in making their escape; nuclear detonations occurring throughout the shipyard create bursts of [[EMP|electromagnetic radiation]] that interfere with Cylon [[DRADIS]], masking the battlestar's jump as it flees and fooling the Cylons into believing that the ship is destroyed ("[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]", "[[Razor]]").
