'''Billy Keikeya''' was the Chief of Staff to President [[Laura Roslin]] following the initial Cylon attack. Despite his relative youth, Billy quickly proved himself as Laura's personal assistant; primarily due to his experiences with his school's debate team. Nevertheless, he was gifted and capable - and much more insightful than people might otherwise assume.

==Biography==
As a result of his abilities, Laura Roslin selects Keikeya to accompany her to the decommissioning ceremonies for the [[Galactica type battlestar|battlestar]] ''[[Galactica]]''. During this time, he recognizes that not only is Roslin ill, she is in fact suffering from cancer ([[Miniseries]]).

His parents had moved to [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]] two months prior to the Cylon attack to be with Keikeya's sisters and their families. It is assumed they died there. Keikeya mentions he had a brother that also died on Picon ([[Sacrifice]]).

Following the loss of President [[Richard Adar]]'s cabinet, Roslin is sworn-in as President, and Keikeya finds himself promoted to the position senior aide to the President. One of his first tasks is to work with her to tally the number of survivors in the fleet ([[33]]) and establish records for the dead. Later, he engages in attempts to get the 1,500 prisoners aboard the ''[[Astral Queen]]'' to help the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] obtain water supplies ([[Bastille Day]]), after ''Galactica's'' water supplies are sabotaged ([[Water]]). Despite his dubious mathematical aptitude (as shown in "[[33]]"), Keikeya is an exceptionally organized individual, who also acts as the senior spokesperson for Roslin's administration ([[Litmus]]).

[[Image:Dee and bee.jpg|thumb|left|Billy Keikeya and Anastasia Dualla on a date in the forward observation lounge ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]])]]Off-duty, Keikeya strikes up a friendship with [[Anastasia Dualla]], a member of ''Galactica's'' CIC staff, which blossoms into romance ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]), despite the fact that Dualla and Keikeya share irreconcilable viewpoints about [[Tom Zarek]]. Keikeya believes that Zarek was a prisoner of conscience who saw his fellow Sagittarons being mistreated by the other [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Colonies]] ([[33]]).

As Roslin continues the [[Chamalla|unconventional treatment]] of her cancer, Keikeya's concerns increase. When she passes out due to an overdose of chamalla, he unknowingly makes a call for help on an open channel. The call is intercepted by the often irksome [[Colonial Press]].

Later, he questions Roslin's hallucinations and her actions during her search for the [[Arrow of Apollo]]. He believes that her actions would irreparably damage the Colonial [[Government of the Twelve Colonies|government]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]). Still, Keikeya stands by her side as Roslin and her [[Presidential Security Service|personal security]] agents prepare to thwart Commander [[William Adama|Adama]]'s attempt to arrest her ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]).

Roslin is arrested when she subverts the separation of military and civilian government by convincing [[Kara Thrace]] to purloin the captured [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raider]] for a jump back to Caprica. Other government aides and officers such as Keikeya, [[Gaius Baltar]] and the members of the [[Quorum of Twelve]] are still free to do as they wished within the Fleet. Keikeya rarely leaves Roslin's side during her internment in ''Galactica'''s brig and routinely keeps her briefed on the deteriorating situation within the Fleet in the wake of the attempt on Commander Adama's life by a Cylon infiltrator.

When [[Lee Adama]] formulates a plan to break the President out of the brig and fly her to safety on ''[[Cloud 9]]'', Keikeya is supportive of the effort, but ultimately does not follow her down the path she was about to take. The two part company in ''Galactica'''s hangar bay with Keikeya staying behind and Roslin hiding on other ships in the Fleet before Col. Tigh and Commander Adama can recapture her ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

''Galactica'' prepares for a return to Kobol to find President Roslin, who go there with over a third of the Fleet in search of the [[Tomb of Athena]]. Commander Adama brings Keikeya along with him and his insertion team because he feels that, aside from himself and Lee Adama, Keikeya is the only other person that Roslin will listen to. When Keikeya humbly denies the assumption that Roslin placed any stock in his opinions, Adama stuns him by saying Roslin feels that he would become President himself some day. Adama tells him that Roslin said he reminded her of former President Adar on his first campaign for public office. Keikeya had no idea how to respond to Adama's lofty comparison when Adama says, "Don't let it go to your head...Adar was a moron."

On the surface of Kobol, Keikeya reunites with Roslin. She is overjoyed to see him once again. Keikeya is also one of the few people to enter the Tomb of Athena and see the map to Earth ([[Home, Part II]]).

Keikeya later proposes to Dualla, giving her his high school debate ring. However, she rejects his proposal. Later, Keikeya witnesses Dualla on a date with [[Lee Adama]] on ''Cloud 9''. As Keikeya begins to criticize Dualla, the bar is taken hostage by a group of civilians demanding the transfer of [[Sharon Valerii]] into their custody. During a rescue attempt by ''Galactica'' marines, the terrorist [[Kern Vinson]] attempts to shoot Dualla. Keikeya knocks one terrorist aside, grabbing his gun and shoots Dualla's would-be murderer in the chest, killing him. Unfortunately, Vinson gets off a burst as he falls, mortally wounding Keikeya. President Roslin later tends to Keikeya's body in ''Galactica's'' morgue, crying that he was "so young" ([[Sacrifice]]).
*In his [[Podcast:Home, Part II|podcast]] for "[[Home, Part II]]", [[Ronald D. '''Tory Foster''' was the Presidential Chief of Staff for [[Laura Roslin]] following the death of [[Billy Keikeya]]. It was later revealed Tory was a [[Final Five]] [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] (an identity she embraces to an extent far greater than her cohorts).

== Biography ==
=== 2000-40 years ago ===

Like the other [[Final Five]] [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]], Tory is a scientist re-inventing Cylon [[Resurrection (RDM)|resurrection]] technology on Earth. She cohabitates with her lover, [[Galen Tyrol]]. When nuclear armageddon comes, she downloads to a resurrection ship the five had placed in orbit, having been warned of Earth's impending doom.

She and her cohorts travel at relativistic but subluminal speed to warn the other Twelve Tribes (i.e., humanity) about the dangers of creating artificial life in order to avoid another revolt and horrific war. They follow the sign-posts left by the humans, such as the [[The Temple of Five|Temple of Hopes]]. Tory and the others arrive during the [[Cylon War|First Cylon War]], too late to have prevented it. They are, however, able to end the war by agreeing to help the Centurions develop [[humanoid Cylons]], a project on which the Centurions had [[Razor Flashbacks#Episode 5 The Lab|started with little success]].

Tory and the other four Final Five create eight humanoid Cylons. [[Number One]] becomes jealous of the others, particularly [[Number Seven]], and dissatisfied with the body and programming the Final Five gave them. After eliminating the Number Seven line, Number One kills Tory and the other four. He controls their resurrection to repress their memories, and maroon them among the humans, unaware of their true nature. ([[No Exit]])

=== Roslin's loyal aide ===

[[image:Tory CaptainsHand.JPG|thumb|left|200px|Presidential Aide.]]
Prior to the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon attack]], Tory was precinct captain for the [[Federalist Party]] in [[Delphi]] for five years, where she became proficient at taking polls ([[The Captain's Hand]]). President Roslin taps her to replace the late [[Billy Keikeya]] as Presidential Aide.

When President Roslin makes the decision to keep the new-born [[Hera Agathon|Cylon/human]] baby as far away from [[Sharon Agathon]] and the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] as possible, Tory creates a list of hand picked civilians who could be trusted with the baby. In the end a civilian named [[Maya]] is selected to take custody of the child. Tory makes it very clear that the child's mother's identity must remain a secret ([[Downloaded]]).

Tory later conspires with [[Saul Tigh]] and [[Anastasia Dualla]] to rig the Presidential election in Roslin's favor. The ruse is uncovered and suppressed by Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]] and Lieutenant [[Gaeta]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). During the occupation of [[New Caprica]], Foster aides Roslin in compiling a list of humans who are in collusion with the Cylons. Roslin makes her responsible for ensuring the safe transport of Maya and Hera off the planet, but she fails at this task. Maya is killed trying to escape New Caprica with the child. Hera survives but is found by the Cylons ("[[Occupation]]", "[[Exodus, Part I]] & [[Exodus, Part II|II]]").

Before and during the trial of ex-president [[Gaius Baltar]], she is tasked with helping Roslin assemble a tribunal to bring charges against Baltar, as well as establish security arrangements ("[[The Woman King]]", "[[The Son Also Rises]]", "[[Crossroads, Part I]]"). She demonstrates an unwillingness to aid [[Romo Lampkin]]'s defense case through initially stonewalling Lampkin's attempts to gain access to records on ''Colonial One'' ([[The Son Also Rises]]).

=== Revelations ===

Some time after the apparent death of [[Kara Thrace]] ([[Maelstrom]]), Foster began a sexual relationship with Thrace's widowed husband, [[Samuel Anders]]. Roslin apparently learns of the relationship and is displeased ([[Crossroads, Part II]]). At the beginning of Baltar's trial, Foster begins to show signs of stress, possibly originating from a [[The Music|strange noise]] which she hears as the Fleet moves towards the [[Ionian nebula]]. Her lack of sleep and stress levels results in a damaging outburst to the press corps during the press conference at which Roslin discusses the return of her cancer. Roslin confronts Foster after this, threatening to replace her if she does not get back on her game ([[Crossroads, Part I]]). When the Fleet reaches the nebula, Foster (on ''Galactica'') is drawn to [[Saul Tigh]], [[Galen Tyrol]], and Samuel Anders, who also hear the now-coherent melody. Despite each of them realizing that they are [[Final Five|Cylons]], Foster and the others re-commit themselves to the Colonial cause. Foster returns to [[CIC]] and stands by Roslin, ready to aid ([[Crossroads, Part II]]).

The four newly revealed Cylons try to keep their nature hidden from those around them, while trying to come to terms it. When they brainstorm ideas about the still-missing final Cylon, Colonel Tigh suggests that Foster flirt with Gaius Baltar to gain access to the knowledge he acquired while living among the Cylons. Although initially repulsed at the idea, she speaks to Baltar and is slightly captivated when he explains how he sees his new role as religious figure. Although at first she cries when eventually sleeping with him, she is further charmed when Baltar tells her that he thinks Cylons are people with feelings too ([[Six of One]]).

Foster also tries to hit on Galen Tyrol, who rebuffs her advances but is suspected of having an affair by his wife. After one of their clandestine meetings, Foster notices an open wall covering, and concludes that they have been overheard by [[Cally Tyrol]], who must have found a note by Tigh to her husband. Not long after that, she follows her to a Viper [[launch tube (RDM)|launch tube]] where Tyrol is about to kill herself and her [[Nicholas Tyrol|son]] by expelling them out of the tube into space. Foster confronts Tyrol and explains that they only recently found out they were Cylons, and that they are still the same people, as scared and confused as everyone else. Foster comforts Tyrol and takes Nicky in her arms, then suddenly strikes her, throwing her body into the air. She retrieves the launch tube key, exits the launch tube with Nicky in her arms, and uses the key to activate the launch controls. As Tyrol regains consciousness, Tory opens the outer airlock door, sending her to her death in open space ([[The Ties That Bind]]).

Foster shows no guilt over this. She appears to have embraced both being a Cylon and her own version of Baltar's teachings, allowing her to by-pass such feelings and adopt an almost [[w:hedonism|hedonistic]] approach to life. She declares herself to be "perfect", something that uneases fellow Cylons Tigh and Tyrol, and is in marked contrast to Tigh's and [[Caprica-Six]]'s guilty consciences ([[Escape Velocity]]).

After [[Number Three (Downloaded copy)|Downloaded Three]] is unboxed, now knowing the identities of the Final Five, and brought to ''Galactica'', Foster stays true her earlier affinity for her Cylon side. Under the pretence of bringing Laura Roslin her medication, she flies to the Cylon basestar, where she is introduced to her fellow Cylons and tells Roslin and Baltar about her true nature. During the ensuing stand off between Three and ''Galactica'' over the remaining three Cylons, she helps Three's cause by informing her of [[Lee Adama]]'s perceived weaknesses ([[Revelations]]).

When the fleet arrives at [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] and discovers it is a barren world rocked by a nuclear catastrophe and once populated by Cylons, Foster and her fellow [[Final Five]] Cylons begin remembering details about their past lives on the planet. One detail she clearly remembers is how Anders used to be a musician and used to play [[The Music|a song he wrote]] for her and their friends, [[Galen Tyrol]] and [[Saul Tigh|Saul]] and [[Ellen Tigh]]. She and Tyrol were also lovers at the time ([[No Exit]]).

Since being publicly identified as a member of the [[Final Five]] Cylons, Foster has taken up full time residence on board the rebel basestar, living with the [[Number Two|Twos]], [[Number Six|Sixes]] (less [[Caprica-Six]]), and [[Number Eight|Eights]] (less [[Sharon Agathon]] & [[Sharon Valerii]]). Her fellow Cylons appear to have also given her equal status in their command hierarchy, as evident by her behaviour during [[Gaeta's Mutiny]]. When [[Laura Roslin]] is smuggled aboard the basestar, Foster is content to abandon the fleet to its own turmoil and simply jump away to safety, a notion her fellow Cylons support. Though she repeatedly argues against involving the basestar in the counter-coup efforts, she ultimately concedes to Roslin's plan ([[Blood on the Scales]]).

During Gaeta's mutiny Sam Anders is shot in the back of the skull. When he regains consciousness he remembers his and the others former life on Earth and after. He recites the history as fast as he could to the other Final Five, including Tory Foster. Like the other Fives she was a scientist attempting to reinvent resurrection technology. To her and Galen Tyrol's mutual shock she learned that they were once lived together as lovers and were engaged to be married. ([[No Exit]]) <!-- As with the other Fives she was downloaded into an orbiting sublight spaceship orbiting the Earth after she was killed in the nuclear Holocaust between the humanoid Cylons and the recreated Cylon Centurions. The Final Five traveled to the human 12 Colonies to warn them to treat their Cylons kindly but were too late due the space vessel being only capable of traveling very near the speed of light but not having Jump technology as a result the voyage, while subjectively on a few years on the ship and barely aged, it was at least 2, 000 years to outside observes. To stop the war against the humans. The Five made the deal to help the Colonial Centurions in their efforts to create humanoid Cylons like the Five and to give them resurrection. The war stopped and the Five were successful at both creating new humanoids and resurrection. One of there creations then turned against them and to demonstrate human cruelty killed they and had their mamories blocked and false ones inserted and placed in the human population. -->

After Anders's apparently unsuccessful surgery (in terms of his regaining consciousness) and his comatose state, Foster urged the other Finals and Caprica Six to leave for the Baseship and leave the fleet to strike out on their own without humanity. Then Ellen Tigh the Fifth Final arrives after a so-called rescue of her from Cavil by Sharon Valerii. Arguments of the merits of staying with the fleet and leaving are exchanged and it comes to a vote Tyrol and Foster vote to leave, Tigh votes to stay. While he was presently in a coma Tyrol assumes that Anders would had voted to stay based on his emphatic plea to Col. Tigh to stay with the fleet. It made the vote a 2 to 2 Deadlock with Ellen Tigh the deciding vote. At the time she didn't know how she would vote as she was also disturbed by personal revelations of the relationship between Col. Tigh and Caprica Six. Later, born out of jealousy, resentment and vengeance over Saul Tigh having a child with Caprica Six and the implication that he loved Caprica Six more than he ever did Ellen, Ellen voted to with Foster and Tyrol to leave humanity, making it a 3-2 result. However Caprica Six miscarriage, brought on possibly by stress caused by an attack in Dogsville earlier and personal confrontations with Ellen Tigh over the true love of Saul Tigh. Foster like the others stay since Hera Agathon became the only hope of the Cylons.([[Deadlock]])

As the Five recover over the tragedy of the miscarriage, Tory commiserates with the others including a desperate Tyrol for the life of Boomer who was about to be transported for trial on the Baseship. She agrees with Ellen Tigh that they cannot interfere with Cylon due process other than being witnesses. Then she was present when Kara Thrace played the song on the piano in Joe's Bar that switched them on in the nebula. She confronts Thrace as to were she learned that song. Thrace told her it was a song that her father played for her as a child. Later off screen she told them that she was playing the music notes written as a drawing by Hera Agathon. By this time Sharon Valerii had already taken Hera and escaped.([[Someone to Watch Over Me]])

She was later present with Saul Tigh, as Ellen Tigh urged the Adamas to search for Hera at the Cylon Homeworld. Kara Thrace also stresses that they should search of Hera. Tyrol, although not revealed in the aired episode, was arrested for his aid in the escape of Valerii and the abduction of Hera so he was not present. At that meeting Foster didn't render an opinion vocally but she agreed with Ellen's assertions and helps arrange the Heavy Raider reconnaissance mission after Adama gives his permission.([[Islanded in a Stream of Stars]])

Ellen Tigh volunteered the Final Five to go on the mission to rescue [[Hera]], much to Tory's dismay. Tory and her Cylon siblings remained on Galactica to control Sam, who is plugged into Galatica's system. ([[Daybreak, Part 1]])

She remains there for the battle, and was standing next to Sam when [[Caprica|Caprica Six]] and [[Baltar]] fulfilled the [[Opera House Prophecy]], rescuing Hera and seeing the Final Five. When [[Cavil]] invaded Galactica's CIC to take Hera back, Tigh volunteered to give him Resurrection technology, which required the Final Five to share their memories. Through their mind meld, [[Tyrol]] and the others discovered it was Tory who killed [[Cally]], and for this, Tyrol broke the connection and attempted to choke her to death; causing Tyrol to break Tory's neck, killing. This prompted Cavil to attack the crew. ([[Daybreak, Part 2]]).
'''Hera Agathon''' is the first successful Human/[[Humanoid Cylon|Cylon]] hybrid, the culmination of the Cylons' experiments to achieve viable procreation. Being the only known successful progeny of a humanoid Cylon; the Cylons literally consider her a "miracle from God".

==History==
===Conception===
Her parents are the human [[Karl Agathon|Karl "Helo" Agathon]] and the Cylon [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon "Athena" Agathon]]; both officers of the Battlestar ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]''.

Sharon; who at the time was posing as [[Sharon Valerii|Sharon "Boomer" Valerii]], was dispatched by her comrades to take part in a Cylon experiment; involving setting up Karl to fall in love with and impregnate her.

Previous and other current attempts to create hybrids; most especially the forced cross-breeding experiments in the Cylon [[Farms]] met with complete failure, thus making the experiment necessary. The Cylons theorized that the key element to procreation they were missing was true love (itself an important element to Cylons, because they believe that "[[God (RDM)|God]] is love").

Some time after the experiment began; Karl and Sharon finally conceived their daughter in a night of passionate sex, following Karl's "rescue" of Sharon (really a deceitful test by the Cylons to test his love for Sharon; which he passed). Immediately following her success, Sharon is ordered to convince Karl to stay in "hiding" on Caprica. Unfortunately, however, Sharon, by this time, had really fallen in love with Karl. To this end, Sharon began helping him to escape the Cylons; her love for Karl and their unborn child eventually leading her to switch her allegiance over to the Colonials.

[[Kara Thrace]] (who arrived earlier on Caprica to retrieve the [[Arrow of Apollo]]) leaves with Caprica-Valerii and Agathon in a captured [[Heavy Raider]]. Caprica-Valerii is incarcerated in ''Galactica's'' [[brig]] for the next few months, as her pregnancy continues to advance.

===Birth===
Agathon is born by emergency surgery one month premature. President [[Laura Roslin]] arranges with Doctor [[Cottle]]—and without Admiral [[William Adama]]'s involvement—to fake Agathon's death and secretly gives the child to a woman named [[Maya]] under the guise that the child is the daughter of a ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' officer. The subterfuge, Roslin presumes, is necessary to keep Agathon safe from humanoid Cylons that may be hiding in the Fleet ([[Downloaded]]) <ref>In a deleted subplot from "[[Downloaded]]", [[Gina]] and [[D'Anna Biers]] scheme to kidnap Agathon at [[Gaius Baltar]]'s request. Gina expresses disgust at Agathon being named for a [[Hera, Lord of Kobol|human god]]. When D'Anna asks Gina what they should call the baby, Gina suggests "Thirteen".</ref>. Maya, unaware of her new child's past, names the girl Isis ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

[[Image:Baby_Hera.jpg|right|thumb|Hera Agathon as an infant, in the care of [[Maya]].]]
[[Gaius Baltar]]'s [[Virtual beings|virtual Number Six]] tells him he will someday raise this child, told to him in a vision he had while trapped on the planet [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]]. However, unaware of what President Roslin has done, Baltar, like the rest of the people who knew about her, believes Agathon to be dead.

When the Fleet settles on [[New Caprica]] under the rule of newly-elected President Baltar, Roslin begins teaching at a settlement elementary school with Maya. Roslin keeps Agathon and Maya close for observation in a cradle identical to the one Baltar saw in his vision.

Before the [[Battle of New Caprica]], Roslin hides Maya and Agathon in the [[New Caprica Resistance|resistance's]] underground bunker. She then takss [[Samuel Anders]] to have two of his best men protect them at all costs, and later make sure they get off the planet. ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

===Time with the Cylons===
In actuality, however, during the civilian evacuation, Maya is killed and Hera left behind. Later, when it is confirmed neither escaped with the Fleet, Roslin assumes Hera died on New Caprica. In actuality, however, Hera was found and rescued by President Baltar, [[Caprica-Six]], and [[Number Three]], and brought aboard a a [[Basestar (RDM)|baseship]] ([[Exodus, Part II]]). She remains in the care of the Cylons, who are happy to welcome her.

Later, Hera begins to fall ill, and none of the Cylon physicians (who have no pediatric experience) understand why.

===Return===
Karl and Sharon finally learn of Roslin's duplicity when Adama reveals the truth (after learning it from Boomer and confronting Roslin with the knowledge). Naturally, Karl and Sharon take it hard, and immediately Sharon desires to see her. Later, she compels her extremely-reluctant husband to shoot her dead, so she can [[Resurrection (RDM)|download]] to the Cylon ships. Later, Adama is convinced by Karl that Sharon will not be captured and forced to convey information on her mission, and when Roslin objects, Karl coldly reminds her if she hadn't lied and stolen Hera from them; the situation would never have developed, and so Roslin immediately capitulates.

Upon downloading, the sympathetic Caprica-Six brings Sharon to Hera, believing her story of how the humans wouldn't let her see her daughter and so felt it was the only way. Hera immediately recognised her mother (despite Boomer being in the same room) and Sharon tearfully reunited with her.

Sharon, through her Colonial training and maternal instinct, realizes that only Colonial medical care can save Hera Agathon, who appears to be suffering from an intestinal blockage. She persuades Caprica-Six to help her escape back to ''Galactica'' with Hera ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Rapture]]").

Agathon appears in several visions seen by Caprica-Six, Laura Roslin, and Sharon as the Fleet approaches the [[Ionian Nebula]]. In each vision, the three adults are compelled to save the child for motives not explained ([[Crossroads, Part II]]).

Two months later, after returning from the ''[[Demetrius]]'' mission with a [[Cylon Civil War|rebel Cylon basestar]], Sharon discovers that Agathon has a fixation with [[Number Six]], seeing that Hera's various crayon drawings of both the number itself and various depictions of Six, including one that looks like the [[Virtual Six]] in the red dress. Agathon then leaves after this discovery, leaving her mother to frantically search around ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> corridors for her. After Sharon sees Natalie with Agathon, she has [[Galen Tyrol]] take Agathon away before mortally wounding Natalie ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]). As a result of this action, Agathon is briefly taken away from her mother, herself incarcerated in ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> brig by Admiral Adama, but he reverses that decision days later ([[Sine Qua Non]]).

===Return to the Cylons===
Hera remains in the care of her parents, and soon it becomes apparant that she is a critical part of solving the mysteries of the Final Five's history and mankind's destiny. The Agathon family's tranquility is shattered when Boomer, having pretended to defect to the Colonials with Ellen Tigh, executed her mission to capture Hera and bring her to John Cavil. To this end, Boomer knocks out Sharon, seduces and has sex with Karl (in front of a bound Sharon) and picks up Hera from the ship's daycare, and drugs the child and places her in a supply crate on her Raptor. Boomer is able to escape, as Adama cannot have her shot down without risk to Hera.

Hera immediately misses her parents, and Boomer was near forcefully sedating her to keep her quiet, but calms down, and instead calms her with her projection ability (which Hera is discovered to share). Hera is brought to The Colony and handed over to Cavil. Cavil reveals to Boomer, who was reluctant to leave Hera (and vice-versa), that he plans to dissect and study her to discover the secret of her creation and use it to allow the Cylons to have hybrid children on their own and save their species.

Meanwhile, on Galactica, Karl and Sharon are devastated by their child's loss, with Sharon inconsolable and assuming Hera has already been dissected and killed by Cavil, but Karl, becoming increasingly unstable, still holds a shred of hope for seeing her again.

With Galactica dying, Adama assembles the crew for the ship's final mission; rescue Hera from Cavil.

Admiral '''Helena Cain''' hails from the colony [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Tauron|Tauron]], and is the commanding officer of the [[Mercury class battlestar]] ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' at the time of the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]]. She is a hard woman, unafraid of making difficult decisions and unflinching in her will to do what she sees as right. These traits sometimes compel her to feel that she has been left no choice but to take controversial, unpopular and morally questionable choices.

==Biography==
===Childhood===
Helena Cain was born during the first [[Cylon War]]. On the last day of the war, Tauron was under attack by Cylon [[Basestar (RDM)|basestars]] and [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Centurion]] ground forces. Her sister [[Lucy Cain]] and her [[Cain (father)|father]] were pinned down in a building under heavy fire. When her father was injured trying to escape, he told Helena to get Lucy to a shelter, before dying. The two made it out of the building, but outside Helena panicked, left Lucy in a field of rubble and ran away to hide in a container. When Cain came out again after the Cylons retreated, she found only her sister's doll on the ground ("[[Razor]]", extended version). These traumatic events were formative for her future.

===Cylon attack and guerrilla warfare===

[[Image:Cain and gina.jpg|thumb|right|Cain dining with [[Gina Inviere]].]]

When ''Pegasus'' is scheduled for an extensive overhaul at the [[Scorpion Fleet Shipyards]], Cain has regular meetings with [[Gina Inviere]], a civilian contractor working for the [[Ministry of Defense]], to work out the details of the retrofit. The two eventually become romantically involved.

Shortly before the [[Cylon attack]], Lieutenant [[Kendra Shaw]] is assigned to the battlestar as Cain's personal aide. When the lieutenant fails to make it to [[CIC]] immediately after her arrival, Cain chews her out in front of the crew, but breaks into laughter after Shaw leaves, showing that she isn't always as hard as she appears to be.

When the Cylons [[Fall of the Scorpion Fleet Shipyards|attack the shipyards]], Cain is in her quarters, working out and going over efficiency reports. She makes it to CIC and immediately orders the battlestar unmoored. When the navigational computer is discovered to be offline and nuclear missiles are inbound, Cain orders a [[blind jump]] to escape certain destruction. With many of her crew dead and the destruction of the Twelve Colonies confirmed, she holds a speech vowing to take revenge on the Cylons. However, in a private dinner with her XO [[Jurgen Belzen]], [[Jack Fisk]], Inviere and Shaw, she promises that she has no intention to unnecessarily waste lives or resources in an emotional quest for revenge.

Shortly later, a Cylon communications relay is detected, which the crew believes to be an easy target. On arrival, one squadron of Vipers is launched. However, 15 squadrons of [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Raider]]s suddenly appear because, it turns out, the target is actually a Cylon staging area. XO Belzen urges Cain to recover their Vipers and retreat, but instead she seemingly forgets her earlier promise and orders the launch of all remaining fighters, which Belzen refuses to do in the face of such odds. Cain asks the XO for his side arm, and shoots him in the head with it in front of the crew. She then turned to Fisk, promotes him to XO, and orders him to launch the rest of the Vipers. Fearing for his life, he does so. At the same time, Inviere disables the main gun batteries and allows a group of [[Cylon Centurion]]s to board the ship, causing many deaths. Shaw reveals her as a Cylon agent in CIC and Cain orders her arrest. ''Pegasus'' manages to win the [[Battle of the Communications Relay|battle]], but with staggering losses.

Cain is deeply stung by Inviere's betrayal, her feelings toward her erstwhile lover turned into hatred and scorn. Cain gives [[Alastair Thorne]] free rein in interrogating the Cylon for information, suggesting "pain ... degradation, fear, shame." This sets the tone for the interrogations, ultimately leading to measures such as gang rape.

When ''Pegasus'' happens upon a small civilian fleet, Admiral Cain decides to strip it of resources and personnel, including their FTL drives. The civilians, however, refuse the cooperate. Resistance is particularly vocal on the ''[[Scylla]]''. When a boarding team led by Shaw and Fisk fails to make the civilians cooperate, Cain orders the team to shoot the families of every conscript who refuses to obey. Shaw fires the first shot and eventually 10 people are killed, thus breaking the resistance. Cain is very impressed by Shaw's actions in the civilian standoff and promotes her to the rank of captain, explaining that Shaw has the qualities of a "razor"; someone who is able to shut down all emotions and inhibitions in battle in order to survive.

Despite the impossible odds, Cain intends to sustain a campaign of guerrilla warfare against the occupying Cylon forces. She then led the battlestar away from the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]], following a Cylon fleet that trails what they discovered as the fellow battlestar ''[[Galactica]]'' ("[[Razor]]", "[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]").

===Galactica===
Upon meeting up with Commander [[William Adama]]'s [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] six months later, she as ranking officer assumes command and transfers personnel from ''Galactica'' to ''Pegasus'', including [[Lee Adama]] and [[Kara Thrace]], indicating that Adama has let military discipline become too lax. Cain is more interested in fighting the Cylons, seemingly oblivious to the point that she and the ships around her are all that was left of the human race, whose survival is more paramount than offensive assaults. While Adama initially welcomes such attacks against a mysterious Cylon force that followed the Fleet (to stop it from following them), his attitude begins to cool about Cain's very strict and unmerciful leadership.
[[image:caingalact.jpg|left|Admiral Cain, meeting up with the crew of ''Galactica''.|thumb]]

Cain's actions also raise concerns with President [[Laura Roslin]]. Cain recognizes Roslin and her former role as Secretary of Education. After the Fleet command transfer from Adama to Cain, Roslin makes several attempts to call Cain to request supplies for the civilian fleet, but all of Roslin's calls are ignored.

===Court-martial, standoff===
After the suspect fatal assault of one of her crew members, Lieutenant Thorne, Cain arrests Chief [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]] and Lieutenant [[Karl Agathon]] and has them flown to ''Pegasus'', under Adama's protest, since traditionally a trial is held on the ship where an incident has occurred. Cain uses ''Galactica'''s log against Adama when he asks for a tribunal; Cain notes that Adama dismissed the last council unilaterally when the verdict did not suit him. Cain summarily court-martials the prisoners herself in a matter of hours, sentencing them to death. A displeased Commander Adama orders an assault crew to ''Pegasus'' to bring his men back. Cain responds by deploying her squadrons of advanced Viper Mark VIIs against Adama's museum collection of Viper Mark IIs in a tense standoff ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

The tense game of chicken is ended by a sudden appearance by Starbuck, flying the [[Blackbird]] as she returns from her unofficial recon mission on the unknown Cylon ship. Starbuck transmits the pictures she took of the [[Resurrection Ship]] back to ''Pegasus'''s CIC. Upon Thrace's return to ''Pegasus'', Cain is so impressed with her performance that she promotes Thrace to Captain and ''Pegasus'' [[CAG]], replacing the competent but uncreative and inflexible Captain [[Cole Taylor|Taylor]]. Cain tasks Starbuck with planning the joint strike on the Resurrection Ship.

===Attack on the Resurrection Ship, and assassination===
[[Image:Gina-Cain.jpg|thumb|Admiral Cain held at gun-point by [[Gina Inviere|her Cylon prisoner]].]]

After Captain Thrace briefs both Adama, Apollo, and Cain on her plan to attack the Resurrection Ship, Adama pulls Starbuck aside and outlines a plan to assassinate Cain following the attack. At the same time, Cain instructs [[Jack Fisk]] to lead a detachment of marines to "terminate Adama's command" after the battle ([[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]).

When the moment arrives, both commanders decide to not say the code words signaling their execution orders. This leaves Thrace and Fisk visibly relieved. Cain survives Adama's plan, ironically, because Adama solicits advice from [[Sharon Agathon|the second copy of Sharon Valerii]], who reminds him of his decommissioning speech that asked whether humanity asked itself if it deserved to survive ([[Miniseries]]). That is, an assassination Cain by Adama would be a good example of why humanity deserved to be exterminated. Although it may have been due to realizing Adama's value as a commander during the battle, the reasons for Cain staying her hand were never revealed, and remain a topic of debate among fans.

Unfortunately for Cain, shortly after Adama's window to assassinate Cain had passed, [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] helps Inviere escape from the brig. Inviere makes her way to Cain's quarters and surprises her by holding her at gunpoint. Knowing Inviere was going to kill her for Cain's abuse, and a soldier to the end, Cain's final words are "[[Frak]] you." Inviere shoots Cain in the head at point-blank range; killing her instantly.

Cain's funeral is given full military honors, with Fisk and Thrace giving eulogies. Fisk takes command of the Pegasus and Thrace gives a touching speech that; while she only knew Cain briefly, she obviously admired the woman, stating "We were safer with her than we are without." ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]). Several months later, Adama tells his son that he can't find any faults in Cain's tactical decisions, and refuses to pass judgment on her, because he has people to keep him in check when he is in danger of going down a similar path, and never had to go through Cain's situation in the first place ([[Razor]]).

{{sourcebox}}

=== Original Series nods ===

*Helena Cain is inspired by the character of Commander [[Cain (TOS)|Cain]] from the original ''[[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Battlestar Galactica]]'', portrayed by the late [[Lloyd Bridges]].

*Unlike Commander Cain in the Original Series, Admiral Cain is a superior officer to Commander William Adama. The Original Series's Adama held a higher rank than Cain, and relieved him of command for a time in the two part episode, "[[The Living Legend, Part I|The Living Legend]]".

=== Behind-the-Scenes ===

*Actress Michelle Forbes said on her character, "She’s lost perspective. People ask, ‘Is she insane? Is she psychotic?’ I hope that’s not how she came across because that was never the intention. I think some individuals can appear to be that way, but this is a woman who did what she had to do in order to survive during some very brutal conflicts. Along the way, Cain lost her sense of judgment as well as her sense of reason and rationale. That was all very interesting for me to play. Usually in TV you’re given one characteristic and you dare not stray from that, so it was neat to have such a difficult, fascinating woman to play. In "[[Resurrection Ship, Part I|Resurrection Ship]]" it really comes to light the path of sadism that these people have gone down and we’re fully able to see exactly what happened to this group aboard the Pegasus. There were some pretty difficult choices they had to make, too, in regard to the Cylon prisoner Gina and that whole dynamic." [http://www.greatlink.org/dcisV2.asp?url=http://www.greatlink.org/shownewsitem.asp?item=5201]

*Cain's sexual orientation was revealed in ''Razor'', which Forbes, in the "Making of" featurette on its original DVD release, stated came as a surprise to her.

*Forbes guest starred as Dara Timicin in the ''[[MemoryAlpha:Star Trek: The Next Generation|Star Trek: The Next Generation]]'' episode "[[MemoryAlpha:Half a Life|Half a Life]]" and had a recurring role as Ensign [[MemoryAlpha:Ro Laren|Ro Laren]] during the last three seasons of ''Star Trek: The Next Generation'', with the character at one point earmarked to join the spinoff series ''[[MemoryAlpha:Star Trek: Deep Space Nine|Star Trek: Deep Space Nine]]''. ''Battlestar Galactica'' executive producer [[Ronald D. Moore]], also a ''TNG'' veteran, wrote for her character in the episodes "[[MemoryAlpha:Disaster|Disaster]]" and "[[MemoryAlpha:The Next Phase|The Next Phase]]".

=== Production ===

*Cain's given name, Helena, was not spoken in dialogue initially, but was posted in episode summaries on Scifi.com (initially misspelled as "Nelena"). Her name is first spoken by Colonel [[Jurgen Belzen]] in "[[Razor]]".

*Cain's habit of expediting meetings by conducting them without chairs is borrowed from UN Ambassador [[Wikipedia:John R. Bolton|John R. Bolton]] (Source: [[Podcast:Pegasus#Act 2|Podcast:Pegasus]]). Within the show, the lack of chairs is said to stem from her preference to stand because of her back problems ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]).

=== Separate continuity ===

* In [[Dynamite Entertainment]]'s [[comic]] books, Helena Cain and ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' make a one-shot appearance in ''[[Battlestar Galactica: Pegasus]]'', and she is mentioned again in ''[[Battlestar Galactica: Origins 6]]''. In ''Origins 6'', Captain [[Alexa Cain|Alexa "Pugnacious" Cain]] is noted as Helena's mother, who had divorced her husband well before the [[Battle of Tauron]]—the last battle of the First Cylon War. However, "Razor" makes it clear that Helena's mother was named "[[Saundra Cain|Saundra]]", and that she was on [[Hypatia]], [[Tauron]] at the time of that last battle, which is when she died.

'''Dionne''' is the half-human/half-[[Cylon]] hybrid daughter of [[Galen Tyrol]] and [[Sharon "Boomer" Valerii]]. She solely existed in the projection created and utilized by Boomer, and was originally made as, at a time when Boomer and Galen both thought themselves to be human, and were in a relationship and planning to settle down, Boomer wished to have some form of child with Galen. In reality, Dionne does not physically exist, as Galen and Boomer's relationship broke down.

When Boomer came to The Fleet and was subsequently imprisoned in Galactica's brig, she showed Galen the projection of the house on Picon, and Galen was only truely taken by the illusion in when he saw Dionne's image. In reality, Boomer had used the projection to manipulate and gain Galen's trust; as part of her mission to kidnap [[Hera Agathon]].

When Galen was informed of Boomer's duplicity shortly after her departure, he was reduced to a state of denial and (apparently) went back into the projection on his own. He no trace of either Boomer or Dionne. ([[Someone to Watch Over Me]]).
