"Organizational Relationships

The exact nature of the Cylon hierarchy remains unclear. The humanoid models, as the most evolved form of Cylon, are definitely in charge of the Centurions and Raiders. Caprica-Six's statement in "Downloaded" that Cylon culture is based on unity and that celebrities such as herself are something new implies that there is no single "Imperious Leader" as there was in the old series. Copies of Numbers Three, Five, Six, and Eight are most often seen in command positons. "

i don't agree. can i have some other opinion about this? --Dancing salad 08:02, 16 March 2006 (CST)

:What's your opinion? --Peter Farago 08:32, 16 March 2006 (CST)
::well, i think we shouldn't say the humanoids are in charge, but thats not the main point. i think we everybody agree about the non humanoid execute orders and do most military actions, and, when with cylon agents, the last ones are in charge. but i non-humanoids are like instruments, just like animals or sensor powered machines with no full artificial inteligence.
::what i want to discuss about is "Cylon culture is based on unity".c ylon culture is actually based on the fact that enybody is fully necessary, they are all clones, when dead another one is replacing them, and their missions are minor parts from a great plan. cylons DO have a plan, we mustn't forget it, no matter it seems not (hey, they finnaly taken their planetary colony, twice xD).
::the caprica copies were uniques were living with humans, they have really decisive missions, and they were heroes. so, when introduced back on their original culture, they couldn't engage. for the cylon culture they were dangerous, as they are leading voices who can make the cylon agent having their own opinions as the caprica copies have. they are fully IA (or whatever they are) and can question, for example, the cylon atack against the colonies.
::"Copies of Numbers Three, Five, Six, and Eight are most often seen in command positions." we know 7 agents and are mentioned 4, thats like saying "men between 25-55 y o are usually in command of younger ones". i think thats more a personality issue rather than military. when seen, we didn't know more models. in fact, they are not only the most often seen in command positions, but also the most often seen.
::and, about the imperious leader, as i said before, their culture is about to execute plan. the fact that the audience and the colonial leaders haven't met a cylon leader yet doesn't mean that he doesn't exist. by the other hand, i'm not saying that actually does, but i think we shouldn't give information far away from the series information by the last aired episode.
::EDIT.: oh, i hadn't understood "unity" the right way. well, now i think it's confusing. not beacuse i have confused it, but because the information is one step closer to the speculation instead of actual facts. how do the agents give orders to raiders or explain missions? and when have we seen an agent giving an order to a centurion? all we know is that they execute actions. maybe they do beacuse agents can't. as agents execute missions the centurions can't. imagining is true they have no leader, why have they to have militar levels?
:: as i'm not saying it must be deleted, i think is too close to the line and has to be often revisited. thats why i've asked for you opinion.
::btw, has anybody found a better Doral pic? i'm still loking for, but it's not easy! a Cavil one was earlier found! xD

:::The "unity" quote is based on dialogue from "Downloaded", so I consider that to be fairly reliable. As for "Copies of Numbers Three, Five, Six, and Eight are most often seen in command positions," we have the following evidence:
:::*Miniseries: High ranking Six on Armistice Station, Eight at Ragnar Anchorage.
:::*Bastille Day, Flesh and Bone, Litmus, Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down: High ranking Five and Six oversee Cap-Valerii's mission.
:::*Final Cut: High ranking Threes, Fives, Sixes and Eights view classified documentary footage
:::*Downloaded: High ranking Three assigned to observe Caprica-Six and Boomer.
:::By contrast, we have not seen Conoy, Simon or Cavil receiving classified information, overseeing other cylons, or delivering orders. I think the statement as written is pretty fair. --Peter Farago 09:54, 16 March 2006 (CST)
| id="spoil-text" class="spoiltext_box" | Yeah, absolutely. When I was up there last time, the writer passed around a document to all of the Cylons in the cast that I got to read. It said very specifically that there are seven - [let's] call them the significant seven - Cylons, and then there's five others ones that are in this mystery mode. No one knows where they are, what they are, and what they are up to. They've so scretive that they've programmed the significant seven so that they can't even think about the other five. They can't have a thought enter their head about these other five [laughs]. I turned out to be number three. Brother Cavil, of the significant seven. I'll be back!
:If Stockwell's reference number is to be taken as correct, it screws up what we know of the Numbers of models.
::: Grace Park also said in an interview that the Significant Seven are programmed not to think about the Final Five. It is a bible document, but they are doing the storyline with the assumption that it's true. It does explain why we will only see seven models included in the voting process during the occupation. Also, a spoiler for Taking A Break From All Your Worries includes a scene where Baltar flashs back to asking D'anna if she's seen the five models that no one else has seen. It's still subject to change, and we shouldn't include it on the wiki before we see it, but I think it will probably turn out this way. :::::Another possible explanation is that Cavil was the third of the seven listed. : This is really nebulous. Cylons of the same model are capable of sharing their memories, so it could be said that a Cylon never "dies". On the other hand, now that unique Cylon personalities are emerging (Athena, Boomer, Caprica Six, Biers), it can be argued that Cylons can die. So it's really up in the air at this point.-- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 09:37, 30 November 2006 (CST)

Ok, but actually I was referring to numbers. For all intended purposes, lets say there were 2,000,000 biological Cylons at the time of the Miniseries. If that one Leoben had truly died (permanently) at Ragnar Station, that would decrease it to: 1,999,999 biological Cylons at the time of the first few episodes. Then let's say 10,000 died during the Battle of the Resurrection Ship: 1,989,999 biological Cylons and so on. Sorry if this is getting confusing but, yeah I'm just talking more about loss in numbers than loss of memories. Commander Mazien 06:10, 2 December 2006 (CST)
:: Well, they can make a copy of the same basic model. But, when we're talking about "death", it has a different meaning to the Cylons. After each Cylon has been created from a master template (for lack of a better term), each Cylon goes on to have different life experiences. So if their husk is killed and aren't resurrected, then that is a "death", since you can't look at it like a mere numbers game. Also, do note that both the raiders and baseships are living organisms after a fashion as well, and are thus alive (though domesticated). -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 15:08, 2 December 2006 (CST)
Even if that spine-glowing is considered a continuity error now - does anyone else recall a very short scene in the miniseries or season one where baltar on caprica has some similiar glow on his neck? It could have been a reflection (from Caprica-Six?) or his spine glowing but covered by his shirt, only the neck-part visible, although I recall it having more of a left-to-right rather than bottom-to-top-motion. == Richard Dawkins takes on a jerk ==

Hey man. You must be a bit stressed with all this style updating and reformatting, so I thought I could help you relax. Check this out. Here we have Richard Dawkins take on an evangelical "Christian" who turns into a jerk really fast. I think Dawkins won the argument too, though it's rather grey. Now, I have to agree with you. Richard Dawkins is the MAN when it comes to science, and I'm glad you idolized him. I respect him quite a bit myself, and I appreciate his scientific commentary. Happy viewing! --Homeworld 15:31, 26 August 2006 (CDT)
:Thats a clip taken from a TV program he did called The Root of All Evil? ^_^ Its not been repeated in the UK as far as I know but you could probably download it from somewhere, it was a great program. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 15:48, 26 August 2006 (CDT)

::I'm interested to see the full program. That 6-minute clip piqued my interest. That site I got it from has bits and pieces from the show, and maybe the whole thing. I already watched another clip called "Teapot Atheists." Striking commentary. Dawkins says that everyone is an atheist since many no longer believe in the gods of Egypt or Rome or Sumer. By the way, I decided to read about James Randi (I already know about Gervais and Sagan). I must say, I respect anyone who can reveal that a "faith-healer" is a sham. I have no patience for people who sell their faith like that Popville guy did. Has the world no shame? I recently added an "Idols" section to my own userpage along with some video clips of them. == CNP vs virus ==

Hey. I reverted an edit you made on Atlantia (RDM). Just to let you know, the Cylons used backdoor programming to essentially command the CNP to turn off or seriously disable itself, leading to their victory. Viruses are an old tactic of theirs from the Cylon War, and are used if they can hack into a Colonial ship's computer network (as done in Scattered and Flight of the Phoenix). But the Cylons didn't primarily win with viruses, just the CNP. The talk page there, I think, says it all. --Spencerian 10:27, 6 October 2006 (CDT)
Nope, not going to tell anyone, because I'm Gaius Baltar, I don't make a frak bit of sense and I'm RDM's own bipedal plot hole." --David Templar 21:20, 29 March 2006 (CST)
::::He's self-serving more than pious any day of the week. The whole God thing was *never* consistent from episode to episode, and I don't see how revealing the fact that Sharon is a Cylon later than sooner would do anything besides making him criminally complacent. Not to mention he'd have to ignore the fact that she was probably the one running around blowing up parts of the Galactica months earlier, and being as self-serving as he is, she being a Cylon represents a danger, not an asset. --David Templar 15:56, 31 March 2006 (CST)
::::: The thing is while Baltar personally believes he's caught somewhere in between the Cylons and Humanity, his actions have always been those that favour them, whether "Six" is just a manifestation of his own psychosis or something else she has consistently led him to decisions that favour the Cylon agenda, indeed prior to Season three the only action Baltar takes at all that isn't in their overall interests is the shooting of Crashdown, who at the time represented a direct and immediate threat to Baltar himself Useless 10:48, 16 November 2006 (CST)
::::::Er, Crashdown. Racetrack is alive and well. Though that was a pretty neutral (and self-serving) move.

Thorn: Removed inaccurate information

A Cylon detector is a scientific method of determining whether a subject is human or a Cylon-replicated clone.

Created by Dr. Gaius Baltar, the test is administered by subjecting a person's blood to radioactive material taken from one of Galactica's nuclear warheads, at the suggestion of Number Six (Bastille Day). The test results are simple: either "red", indicating Cylon, or "green", indicating human. Yet with a single test cycle lasting approximately eleven hours, Baltar estimates it will take over 60 years (not counting breaks for sleep, food, bathroom, etc.) to test the whole fleet (numbering almost 50,000 people) (Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down).

Development work on the Cylon detector had previously been halted when Dr. Baltar was accused by Shelly Godfrey of being a traitor and temporarily thrown in the brig (Six Degrees of Separation). Baltar's "innocence" was proven, however, by Lieutenant Felix Gaeta, who had previously been ordered by Commander William Adama to assist Baltar in the development of the device (Water). Although considered a military secret, the Cylon detector is nevertheless the subject of constant rumor and innuendo (Act of Contrition).

Curiously, the Cylons themselves (in the form of Number Six) are the ones who initially suggest the construction of the Cylon detector by using the nuclear materials. Moreover, Baltar was only put in charge of the project because of his earlier detection of the fleet's first Cylon infiltrator, Aaron Doral, which was also greatly influenced by Number Six. (Miniseries) So, ironically, the Cylon detector is very much a product of Cylon invention.

The Cylon detector does, in fact, work. It confirmed that Sharon Valerii was, indeed, a Cylon – a fact that Baltar hid from Valerii, fearing what her Cylon persona would do were he to tell her. (Flesh and Bone) After discovering that it would be easier for Baltar to make all the results "green", Baltar altered the device to mimic his method of thinking (Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down).

The Lymphocytic encephalitis virus is accidentally discovered as fatal to Cylon agent physiology but harmless to humans. This revelation could be used as a future detector (A Measure of Salvation).
> "'Re-imagining', they call it. 'un-imagining' is more accurate. To take what once was and twist it into what never was intended. So that a television show based on hope, spiritual faith, and family is unimagined and regurgitated as a show of despair, sexual violence and family dysfunction."
> "The male characters, from Adama on down, are confused, weak, and wracked with indecision while the female characters are decisive, bold, angry as hell, puffing cigars (gasp) and not about to take it any more."
Personally, I haven't seen the original (sorry, maybe I'm not a serious enough fan), but first off, I think Adama is practically the most solid and principled character in the show. A little hesitation just makes him human (which, when I last checked, is what he's supposed to be playing). Secondly, I always thought the despair, violence and dysfunction is what made the show so real (real where it counts). It's a show about humans fighting aliens in space. There's very little that can be done wrong regarding fighting aliens, but everything can be done wrong portraying humans. Thankfully, I think very little has. Again, I'm sorry for bringing such a off-topic convo here, but I'm really interested in what you other guys think. Especially if you've seen both. Thanks in advance. Okay, so clearly Lee is once again a Major. Is this his second unexplained demotion? Was his rank always Major, and was he just referred to as Commander due to his position as the commanding officer on Pegasus? In the US Navy an officer of any rank is referred to as "Captain" when he is in command of a vessel. -- Doopokko 18:03, 1 January 2007 (CST)
:The demotion appears to be similar to naval protocols where the rank of commander is given only to the captain of a ship. Since Lee hasn't a ship, he goes down to the highest non-ship command rank. This is speculation, but seems to be the only reason. --Spencerian 19:07, 1 January 2007 (CST)
:Yeah, there is really no need to explain it. He was a Commander and we saw that promotion (The Captain's Hand). Rank isn't everything anyways --Serenity 05:22, 2 January 2007 (CST)
::It's all a bit odd. The best assumption is that Lee's promotion to Commander was a brevet, which ended with his command - this is not an uncommon practice during wartime, when faced with a shortage of officers. Although William Adama's resignation letter in "Hero" (and, according to the podcast, early drafts of the script) feature him leaving Lee in command after his departure, we should remember that Colonel Tigh was still on the outs at that point. --Peter Farago 18:27, 2 January 2007 (CST)
:::We should remember that the Colonial military has less than 3000 people left. Promotions have always been shown as very fluid, and they don't necessarily use the same standards as before the Fall of the Colonies. People are promoted and demoted as needed to do their jobs and position counts for more than rank. --Serenity 18:37, 2 January 2007 (CST)
Can someone clarify this for me? When William Adama gets promoted to admiral ("commander of more than one ship is called an admiral"), he gets to keep his position/rank after losing the other ship (which should, theoretically, mean that he's a mere commander again), while this is not true for Lee Adama. How come? This would all make sense if commander was, in fact, a position, not a rank, but it's listed as a rank on this wiki. Thorn 02:25, 25 January 2007 (CST)

:My take on this: There is typically one Captain in any pilot group--that person's also the CAG. When Stinger was assigned CAG for all pilots, Adama might have been demoted by default, but I can't find any record of that happening directly (insignia checker take note). When Thrace was promoted to Captain, she became CAG as well. While pilots can be Captains when not assigned to a group (as Adama was before he arrived on Galactica), being actively assigned to a battlestar may also change things. Another likely point was that Cain demoted him as punishment in addition to revoking his flight status until Thrace asked for him back. Educational guesses--maybe someone can read through the transcripts? --Spencerian 18:35, 19 January 2006 (EST)

:::I made the edit about his Lieutenant status. I assumed that it was a result of Cain's punishment rather than being assigned to Pegasus, as Stinger still refers to him as Captain in the teaser of Res Ship II. Also, getting a demotion due to reassignment sounds really wierd (though possible, I guess). --Redwall 20:35, 19 January 2006 (EST)

::::I think that Birch got a temporary promotion to captain, to be CAG, but that others like Taylor and Lee were captains through normal promotion through ranks (i.e. not dependent on being CAG or not) thus I think/hope that Apollo will be promoted right back to Captain by next week's episode, as I see NO reason why his father wouldn't just promote him back to Captain. --RicimerRicimer 22:06, 19 January 2006 (EST)
I don't get it either! What's with the Admiral?! Why did he put Lee in command of the Pegasus? Because he knows some tactics? He knows very little about commanding. Even Garner knew more! Would Lee sacrifice his life to save Pegasus? I doubt it. From episode to episode I hate Apollo more and more. The old man has lost his mind or what?! A flyboy in command? Worser than an engineer if you ask me. And how the hell got flyboy Adama promoted two time in a couple of weeks?! And WHY?! Why wouldn't the Admiral put Tigh in command instead? He has the ability to command a BS with discipline and Pegasus could adapt very fast to it because Cain was like that too. A flyboy in command? Right. ::Just to clarify, a friend of mine (ex-USN) has told me that a Carrier may ONLY be commanded by an aviator, and since Ron Moore has described Galactica as an aircraft carrier in space (and given all the other references to current-day military), it's safe to assume that this Command structure is the same in BSG-land. Also: Garner knew more about tactics than Lee did? No offence, but did you even watch The Captain's Hand? Had Garner any real knowledge of command tactics, it's doubtful that the Battle of the Binary Star System would have unfolded as it did. With regards to his promotion to Major- it seems to be the general concensus (although never explicitly stated on screen) that Lee was assigned to Pegasus as Garner's XO. If this is the case (which i don't believe- see bottom of page), the Old Man may have promoted him to Major in order to give him more clout over the other Pegasus officers --Madbrood 07:43, 12 September 2006 (CDT)

: Why Lee Adama? Believe it or not, given what we know of the surviving military personnel, Lee is now one of the senior officers of the fleet. Tigh is utterly unsuitable for command, has no "cred" on Pegasus, and would do nothing to improve their morale. Furthermore, there's no evidence that Tigh wants a command of his own, ever. Lee, for all his faults (and brother, does he have faults) has shown quick thinking, and an ability to make even questionable decisions work out in nondisasterous ways. He'll either grow up really, really fast, or he won't, in which case I expect that Pegasus's deckhands will be installing a revolving door on the commander's cabin.--Uncle Mikey 14:25, 24 February 2006 (EST)

No, more like Captain to Lieutenant to Captain to Major to Commander in a matter of weeks. (haha) It's more maddening when you think of it that way. But without him, the Pegasus wouldn't have made it out of that trap; that had to be tricky. Granted, Garner's repair was vital too.

I need to go back and watch the episode, I totally had the impression that the Admiral was transfering to Pegasus and Lee was taking Galactica. I'm most curious however to find out who his XO is going to be. My only possible guess is Captain Kelly, Galactica LSO Rocky8311 18:43, 18 February 2006 (EST)

: I also got that impression, Rocky. Also, everyone, it's mentioned that "The Captain's Hand" is a month after "Sacrifice", so his promotions might not be as rapid-fire as they seem. Not that it's a normal, slow progression, but neither is it Captain on Monday, Major on Thursday and Commander on Saturday. As for Lee's XO... I'd like to see some Marine or something promoted to command-level staff. Maybe Hadrian. Though I have no idea how realistic that is. What, exactly, does a Sergeant at Arms do? --Day 20:48, 19 February 2006 (EST)

::Well, as a Noncommissioned officer (that is, a non-officer), it would be impossible to become the XO. Someone slap me down if I'm wrong, but a useful generalization is that people who graduate from college are elligible to become Officers and those who don't tend to "enlist" (gradually being promoted toward from Privates toward non-commissioned officer ranks like Sergeant). (See Military Ranks (RDM)) When an enlisted soldier reaches the top of the Noncommissioned officer hierarchy, they don't jump to an Officer Rank (in BSG's case: Ensign). Like I said; if I'm way off base, someone correct me.

::It's kind of strange, come to think about it, that for a show that works so hard to break stereotypes by casting Starbuck and Kat as the top aces, that most senior officers in the fleet are, and have been, old white men. (Tigh, Fisk, Garner, Kelly, Cottle, Lee...) The RDM feels less racially diverse than the TOS in some ways. Not that I'm complaining about anything; I think everything has been cast well and an "alien" civilization of humans doesn't need to fit our expectations anyway.... Rocky8311 04:09, 24 February 2006 (EST)

:::You're correct on there not being an automatic jump from enlisted to officer ranks. Technically that butterbar lieutenant that rolls out of the service academy or ROTC program outranks even the highest ranking enlisted person (NCO or not) from day one. That being said, there are certain realities in the field that blur those lines. A company commander is going to be far more likely to listen to his First Sergeant than a 2LT when it comes to practical decisions, regardless of who technically would have to salute whom. There are programs that allow enlisted folks to move into officer ranks after getting a degree (green to gold, etc.), and I have worked with both a Major and a Lt. Col who were former enlisted. (A lot of enlisted guys I've talked to prefer the former-enlisted officers to ROTC and especially service academy officers, as they feel that the former enlisted officers better understand what goes on at the lowest levels.) So there's no probable way for a marine to end up being an XO in BSG-land right now, as the highest ranking marine we've seen is credited as being an LT (though he is called Gunny by Kara).

I move that this section of the article be revised or deleted entirely. It was never explicitly stated on screen that the reason for Lee's transfer to Pegasus was to become Garner's XO; all we are told was that he was to keep an eye on Starbuck, and that it was temporary- "I should be back again in a couple of weeks". Garner also sates, rather aggressively, that he is "not a member of this crew" to the CIC Sergeant of the Guard. ==Cylon "Agent"?==
Maybe it's too soon to be certain, I don't think the template should state that Sharon Agathon is a Cylon AGENT. She's a Cylon, but a Colonial officer. She's not currently understood to be under the control of Cylon programming, so is she really their AGENT? If we changed the template for all cylons to say "(blank) is a Cylon" I think that would be the most accurate. It would also resonate with dialogues in many episodes like Doral ("I'm not a Cylon!"), Boomer ("I'm a frakking Cylon!"), and Baltar ("Am I a Cylon!?") --Rocky8311 06:24, 11 December 2006 (CST)
:My two cents: Here, on Battlestar Wiki, "Cylon agent" is a humanoid Cylon, as opposed to a Cylon Centurion robot. As the Cylon agent article shows pictorally, this is a canonical term. While Agathon deserves special consideration, she is still a Cylon, albeit not by loyalty. In contrast, Baltar is working with the Cylons, if not "for." Would he be called anything else? Maybe. But, because of the limitations we must impose here for purposes of encyclopedic concision, it's better not to try to break and fix our templates for what's not really broken. Agathon's special exception is heavily noted throughout many articles. --Spencerian 07:00, 11 December 2006 (CST)
::Yeah, it's used merely to represent them.
:That shes wearing the uniform is more likely a mistake, they hadn't thought of Caprica Valerii when they made the mini-series. Still, the two being one and the same is a good way to explain away said mistake. Her Caprica misson wouldn't really take any preparation, and the Cylons would probably make very efficient use of personnel.--Undc23 19:18, 30 December 2005 (EST)
:I disagree on this one. We know that there are dozens, nay, hundreds of duplicates of each Cylon model. Plus we don't know how they can share information. Further, Team Anders said that they had seen Cylons in uniform before, implying that it is not an uncommon sight or rare to see them in one. As stated in the article, it is becoming increasingly confusing to identify the two Eight models with their season one substitute names "Galactica-Sharon" and "Caprica-Sharon". Grace Park explained in several interviews, she herself – hence most of the crew presumably – began distinguishing them by calling Galactica-Sharon "Boomer" and Caprica-Sharon "Sharon". This seems to be a less bewildering (and more logical) way to designate both Cylons, therefore I would suggest at least to mention this form of distinction in the individual Number Eight articles or even to introduce "Boomer" and "Sharon" as generally acknowledged short names for the two characters within the Battlestar Wiki. --Enemy
Grace Park's thing from that article is actually kind of confusing and I hope that one day she learns of our conventions----->More to the point, the production team itself started adopting this fan-naming convention when they started using the name "Caprica-Six" on air. --The Merovingian (C - E) 14:18, 7 April 2006 (CDT)
The Merovingian is right, Enemy- Yes, the cast and crew use Boomer and Sharon, but that's more convienient in spoken conversation. When it comes to text, Galactica/Caprica distinction is simpler. Yes, both are a bit confusing, but they are confusing to different people-I know people who will have more of a problem with Boomer/Sharon than Caprica/Galactica. As for the interviews, Tricia Helfer has consistently used the term "humanoid Cylons" to describe herself, Lucy Lawless, and the other models, but it has not been established as the official term by anyone- if every member of the cast and crew used the Boomer/Sharon system, fine, but Eick and RDM have both called Boomer "Sharon", which proves it's no more official than our system.- Ragestorm 14:30, 7 April 2006 (CDT)
Anyone searching for Sharon Valerii will go to Boomer's page and see the disambiguation heading telling them to go to Sharon Agathon if they were looking for her, so that's no real problem. Also, wouldn't it be more precise for this page to be "Sharon Valerii Agathon", like "Cally Henderson Tyrol"? Noneofyourbusiness 09:29, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
:::::Cally, it would seem, chose to take her husband's name while keeping her maiden name. Sharon did not neccessarily go the same route, and may have dropped "Valerii" all together. As Adama used "Sharon Agathon" to swear her in, I say that's pretty good evidence that that is officially and legally her name. Unless she's referred to as "Sharon Valerii Agathon" in the future, I say we stick with this name. Alpha5099 11:15, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
::::::That's what I was thinking. --Talos 11:17, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
:::::::That makes sense, but why don't we change Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy) to Sharon Valerii ("Boomer"), since that's a more accurate distinction, one which is actually used in the show. Noneofyourbusiness 11:58, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
::::::::Well, we could make G-Boomer's page just "Sharon Valerii," since there is a Number Eight and Sharon Agathon page that distingushes the other models. --Talos 12:26, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
:::::::::No. To repeat - someone searching for "Sharon Valerii" during the first two seasons should be sent to a disambig page, not G-Sharon's page. --Peter Farago 12:53, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
::::::::::Okay, I can understand that. I guess we could keep the title as it is now, that could work. --Talos 12:58, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
:::::::::::Sharon Valerii ("Boomer") is the most logical title. She's called Boomer repeatedly on the show, never Galactica-Sharon. Sharon Agathon is always Sharon. Noneofyourbusiness 13:39, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
::::::::::::I'd settle for "Sharon "Boomer" Valerii", but I prefer the "(Galactica copy)" nomenclature, as it matches our current nomenclature for Cylon copies and is extendable to future copies. --Peter Farago 13:43, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
:::::::::::::Calling them by place names works well enough informally, but "Boomer" is a distinguishing point between them from the show itself, and is less confusing now that she's not on Galactica. The only Cylon officially referred to by place name nomenclature is Caprica-Six. Number Three, who calls that Six, "Caprica", calls Boomer, "Boomer". This is the nomenclature being used by the characters. Noneofyourbusiness 13:51, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
::::::::::::::Your argument is persuasive, but I'm a little concerned that S. Agathon will use "Boomer" as her call sign now that she's an officer. --Peter Farago 14:12, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
:::::::::::::::Nothing points to that. I have a feeling that they'll reduce confusion by just keeping her as "Sharon". Noneofyourbusiness 14:42, 7 October 2006 (CDT)
:::::::::::::::Or, she could easily just as much use another call sign for fear of the "taint" on the "Boomer" call sign. Hell, she may end up calling herself "Sheba". ^_^ Seriously, while I suspect that she'll end up with a call sign, I don't think it'll be Boomer, and I think we could easily assign that to G-Sharon.--<font color="#4b0082">み使い</font> <font color="#2f4f4f">Mitsukai</font> 10:49, 8 October 2006 (CDT)
::::::On top of it, S&C states that we should use First Name Last Name unless the middle name is needed for disambiguation. :Regarding the callsign, in this transcript of a James Callis interview, she is referred to as Sharon "Athena" Agathon. Maybe Mitsukai is onto something! But probably just a typo... --Noindiecred 13:35, 12 October 2006 (CDT)
::Let's wait until it's actually used in an official source. Sounds good, and I was hoping for a different callsign, although it means LOTS of disambiguration here. --Spencerian 19:58, 12 October 2006 (CDT)
"Valerii" was never her last name
This article has a name convention problem throughout the text. "Valerii" is used as her quasi maiden name, but she never used that surname at all (see Talk:Sharon Valerii). I'm not sure how to change it though. Two possible solutions would be (1) calling her "Sharon" until she is married to Helo which would be informal, but probably most accurate, or (2) calling her "Agathon" right from the start. Maybe you have other suggestions. -- Enemy 15:48, 29 October 2006 (CST)

:The use of first names only is against BW:SAC because of issues with informality. While this character was on Caprica, she uses the Sharon Valerii identity (if not necessarily speaking it) with Helo. There are no other aliases for the Eight models. The use of "Caprica-Valerii" or simply Valerii, from an encyclopedic viewpoint in this article, minimizes confusion here. The article's content using her married name should change only in season 3 descriptions in her article. While Gina's name was never spoken in dialogue, it doesn't hold true that that was not the character's name, per numerous podcasts by Ron Moore. I would rather hold to convention here than to quibble over what is an already confusing process to differentiate the Cylon models. --Spencerian 13:23, 30 October 2006 (CST)

:I strongly agree, she should not be called Valerii in the text. This is factually wrong and only creates unnecessary confusion. Formality should not be more important than accuracy. The best solution would be to use some clever phrases as long as she assumed Valerii's identity (This second Valerii ...) and then refer to her as Sharon, because that is her only known name at this point. It could even be explaining (and justified) in the text that she identified herself with that name to Helo. Sloan 09:27, 28 November 2006 (CST)

::The number 8 model on Caprica during season one was using the Sharon Valerii identity, just as the Galactica copy was. That the Caprica agent didn't have much opportunity to use her last name isn't really relevant, in my opinion.--Hylas 10:59, 28 November 2006 (CST)
:::Of course she used Valerii's identity during season one, but I think it is inappropriate to use the name of an alias of hers in the text until events at the end of season two. When she identifies herself to Helo as a different Sharon, she should no longer be called Valerii. Sloan 11:52, 28 November 2006 (CST)
She frequently provides intelligence, but is severely mistreated by an interrogator from Pegasus who beats and sexually assaults her.

This makes it sound like it was a recurring thing. The Pegasus interrogator tried doing it only once, when he was stopped and killed by Helo and Tyrol. --DrBat 13:23, 8 November 2006 (CST)
