::well, i think we shouldn't say the humanoids are in charge, but thats not the main point. i think we everybody agree about the non humanoid execute orders and do most military actions, and, when with cylon agents, the last ones are in charge. but i non-humanoids are like instruments, just like animals or sensor powered machines with no full artificial inteligence.

Ok, but actually I was referring to numbers. For all intended purposes, lets say there were 2,000,000 biological Cylons at the time of the Miniseries. If that one Leoben had truly died (permanently) at Ragnar Station, that would decrease it to: 1,999,999 biological Cylons at the time of the first few episodes. Then let's say 10,000 died during the Battle of the Resurrection Ship: 1,989,999 biological Cylons and so on. Even if that spine-glowing is considered a continuity error now - does anyone else recall a very short scene in the miniseries or season one where baltar on caprica has some similiar glow on his neck? It could have been a reflection (from Caprica-Six?) or his spine glowing but covered by his shirt, only the neck-part visible, although I recall it having more of a left-to-right rather than bottom-to-top-motion. Hey. I reverted an edit you made on [[Atlantia (RDM)]]. Just to let you know, the Cylons used [[backdoor]] programming to essentially command the [[CNP]] to turn off or seriously disable itself, leading to their victory. Viruses are an old tactic of theirs from the Cylon War, and are used if they can hack into a Colonial ship's computer network (as done in [[Scattered]] and [[Flight of the Phoenix]]). A '''Cylon detector''' is a scientific method of determining whether a subject is human or a [[Cylon]]-replicated clone.

Created by Dr. [[Gaius Baltar]], the test is administered by subjecting a person's blood to radioactive material taken from one of ''[[Galactica]]'s'' [[Missile Tubes|nuclear warheads]], at the suggestion of [[Number Six]] ([[Bastille Day]]). The test results are simple: either "red", indicating Cylon, or "green", indicating human. Yet with a single test cycle lasting approximately eleven hours, Baltar estimates it will take over 60 years (not counting breaks for sleep, food, bathroom, etc.) to test the whole fleet (numbering almost 50,000 people) ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]).

Development work on the Cylon detector had previously been halted when Dr. Baltar was accused by [[Shelly Godfrey]] of being a traitor and temporarily thrown in the [[brig]] ([[Six Degrees of Separation]]). Baltar's "innocence" was proven, however, by Lieutenant [[Felix Gaeta]], who had previously been ordered by Commander [[William Adama]] to assist Baltar in the development of the device ([[Water]]). Although considered a military secret, the Cylon detector is nevertheless the subject of constant rumor and innuendo ([[Act of Contrition]]).

Curiously, the Cylons themselves (in the form of Number Six) are the ones who initially suggest the construction of the Cylon detector by using the nuclear materials. Moreover, Baltar was only put in charge of the project because of his earlier detection of the fleet's first Cylon infiltrator, [[Aaron Doral#PR Executive (Doral #1)|Aaron Doral]], which was also greatly influenced by Number Six. ([[Miniseries]]) So, ironically, the Cylon detector is very much a product of Cylon invention.

The Cylon detector does, in fact, work. It confirmed that [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Sharon Valerii]] was, indeed, a Cylon – a fact that Baltar hid from Valerii, fearing what her Cylon persona would do were he to tell her. ([[Flesh and Bone]]) After discovering that it would be easier for Baltar to make all the results "green", Baltar altered the device to mimic his method of thinking ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]).

The [[Lymphocytic encephalitis]] virus is accidentally discovered as fatal to Cylon agent physiology but harmless to humans. This revelation could be used as a future detector ([[A Measure of Salvation]]).

Personally, I haven't seen the original (sorry, maybe I'm not a serious enough fan), but first off, I think Adama is practically the most solid and principled character in the show. A little hesitation just makes him human (which, when I last checked, is what he's supposed to be playing). Secondly, I always thought the despair, violence and dysfunction is what made the show so real (real where it counts). It's a show about humans fighting aliens in space. There's very little that can be done wrong regarding fighting aliens, but everything can be done wrong portraying humans. Thankfully, I think very little has. It seems odd to me that people are concerned about Latin based phrases making an apperance on the show based on the fact that they're "Earth based". :My take on this: There is typically one Captain in any pilot group--that person's also the CAG. When Stinger was assigned CAG for all pilots, Adama might have been demoted by default, but I can't find any record of that happening directly (insignia checker take note). When Thrace was promoted to Captain, she became CAG as well. While pilots can be Captains when not assigned to a group (as Adama was before he arrived on ''Galactica''), being actively assigned to a battlestar may also change things. Another likely point was that Cain demoted him as punishment in addition to revoking his flight status until Thrace asked for him back. ::Well, as a Noncommissioned officer (that is, a non-officer), it would be impossible to become the XO. Someone slap me down if I'm wrong, but a useful generalization is that people who graduate from college are elligible to become Officers and those who don't tend to "enlist" (gradually being promoted toward from Privates toward non-commissioned officer ranks like Sergeant). (See [[Military Ranks (RDM)]]) When an enlisted soldier reaches the top of the Noncommissioned officer hierarchy, they don't jump to an Officer Rank (in BSG's case: Ensign). :::You're correct on there not being an automatic jump from enlisted to officer ranks. Technically that butterbar lieutenant that rolls out of the service academy or ROTC program outranks even the highest ranking enlisted person (NCO or not) from day one. That being said, there are certain realities in the field that blur those lines. A company commander is going to be far more likely to listen to his First Sergeant than a 2LT when it comes to practical decisions, regardless of who technically would have to salute whom. There are programs that allow enlisted folks to move into officer ranks after getting a degree (green to gold, etc.), and I have worked with both a Major and a Lt. Col who were former enlisted. (A lot of enlisted guys I've talked to prefer the former-enlisted officers to ROTC and especially service academy officers, as they feel that the former enlisted officers better understand what goes on at the lowest levels.) So there's no probable way for a marine to end up being an XO in BSG-land right now, as the highest ranking marine we've seen is credited as being an LT (though he is called Gunny by Kara).

Maybe it's too soon to be certain, I don't think the template should state that Sharon Agathon is a Cylon AGENT. She's a Cylon, but a Colonial officer. She's not currently understood to be under the control of Cylon programming, so is she really their AGENT? If we changed the template for all cylons to say "(blank) is a Cylon" I think that would be the most accurate. The Merovingian is right, Enemy- Yes, the cast and crew use Boomer and Sharon, but that's more convienient in spoken conversation. When it comes to text, Galactica/Caprica distinction is simpler. Yes, both are a bit confusing, but they are confusing to different people-I know people who will have more of a problem with Boomer/Sharon than Caprica/Galactica. This article has a name convention problem throughout the text. "Valerii" is used as her quasi maiden name, but she never used that surname at all (see [[Talk:Sharon Valerii]]). I'm not sure how to change it though. Two possible solutions would be (1) calling her "Sharon" until she is married to Helo which would be informal, but probably most accurate, or (2) calling her "Agathon" right from the start. The best solution would be to use some clever phrases as long as she assumed Valerii's identity (This second Valerii ...) and then refer to her as Sharon, because that is her only known name at this point.
