Because this a potenially large section to add to the site, as well as the format and the number of new articles that can arrise from a new portal this is the disscussion about in it's "talk" page before I even start the coding.

== The Concept ==
It would be the same thing as the TV Show portal's but have the [[Portal:Cylons]] and [[Portal:Ships]] feel as it will be a way to navigate through. Because there is very little comics and so much content, that's why I suggest this way. Plus the comics are related to the new series, but are in the {{tl|separate continuity}} "area". So... with that in mind... all articles, characters, events, etc., would be placed on the (Comic) namespace. [[Article Here ([SERIES of Comic Abrivation] Comic)]], depending if there is more than one "SERIES". But if there is two things that are the same, i.e. [[Viper (Comic)]], you would not need the in the namespace. That's about it.

:What about dividing up the "ancilliary continuity" based on its "parent" continuity? That is, TOS comics and novels together, RDM comics and novels together, and the video game alone as a third portal. :yes definitly should be linked from the merchandise box instead of the category page. I dont think it really needs to be on any other portal bits cus most of the portal are related to characters or races. == New DVDs ==

Does anyone know anything about these new and apparently pointless DVDs coming out at the start of October? It appears to be [http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=285;5;-1;-1&sku=694305 half of the original series] and [http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=285;5;-1;-1&sku=694312 the first 3 discs of the new series] each for only £2 less (on certain websites) than it would cost you to buy the COMPLETE series boxsets of each. Just another [[Talk:Battlestar Galactica - Season Three (Region 2 DVD)|rip-off we region-two-ers are used to]] or, and I'll be really surprised if this is the case, something worth mentioning here? ::I think BSG is going to be a prime example of a really nice HD (either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray) set in a few years time and fingers crossed the extras will all be on that. So far the UK dvds have been of very poor quality compared to the US versions. == Harbinger of Doom? ==

Sci Fi Channel has a dubious reputation when it comes to its own original series (note ''Farscape''). Having only 13 episodes (which reflects season 1's initial allotment) may be for a number of factors, such as "less is more," for cost issues, or even committment. It's not that Sci Fi hasn't given the show enough advertising--far from it, IMO. I don't think it's got the best time slot, however. Friday was just fine, when Stargate fed its audience. Today, BSG holds well in ratings given the lack of a feeder show (A good one would be to have "Heroes" encore show play instead of "The Dresden Files," which seems to be an overused cop/sureality show a'la ''X-Files'' anyway). But it could and should do better. There's also the matter of the balance of action to character event shows, where this season isn't good in the space fighting that we all enjoy, and the overall mood; the audience really needs a pick-me-up show. As involved as RDM and Eick are involved in all stages of the process, I'd imagine it's considerably easier to wrap your (their) head around, top to bottom, thirteen rather than twenty episodes. Also, the way I read some of the announcements the thirteen is a floor (that potentially they could pick up more if the ratings are favorable). I'm not saying all fillers are bad episodes (I liked Litmus, Collaborators, Unfinished Business and Taking a Break, to name a few), but bad episodes do tend to be fillers. Also, 13 seems to be the magic number: episodes 214 and 314 (Black Market and The Woman King) were the worst eps to date, IMO. As in Season 2, Season 3 seems to have a couple of consecutive fillers around eps 14-16, which is usually the least interesting part of a season. A 13-episode season is less likely to have this caveat and might actually be better, unless perhaps they 'linked' those three fillers (eps 14-16), i.e. make them about a cross-episode story.

* Boxey tells Boomer that he has trained [[Muffit]] to "sniff" out [[mushies]] (edible treats for [[daggit]]s).
* Suddenly, a loud siren begins to blare, and red alarm lights flash throughout the ship. On the bridge, Colonel [[Tigh (TOS)|Tigh]] informs Commander [[Adama (TOS)|Adama]] of incoming [[Cylons (TOS)|Cylon]] forces, possibly from a [[Basestar (TOS)|basestar]] they encountered 10 centars ago. [[Blue Squadron]] is launched.
* As Tigh and Adama study the [[scanner]], they come to realize that they face a major attack rather than a mere combat probe. All squadrons are launched, and ''Galactica's'' compartments are sealed to protect against hull breaches.
* The [[Viper (TOS)|Vipers]] engage a huge number of [[Raider (TOS)|Cylon Raiders]], which are not fighting back. The Vipers are destroying Raiders at will in numerous quantities, but two Raiders slip through the rain of Viper fire.
* One Raider heads toward ''Galactica's'' bridge, which closes its protective [[Defensive shields|shield]] in defense. [[Apollo (TOS)|Apollo]] and [[Sheba]] close in and appear to destroy the Raider with laser fire. However, the destruction of the Raider occurs too close to the bridge, which suffers heavy damage, suffering explosions, fallen girders, and shattered glass.
* Adama, nearly unconscious, lies motionless on the floor of the bridge. Tigh finds him and orders [[Omega]] to bring [[Salik|Dr. Salik]] immediately.
* [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] tries but fails to destroy the other suicidal Raider. It successfully rams ''Galactica's'' port [[landing bay]], causing massive explosions and damage throughout the ship, including the rejuvenation center.
* Boomer extinguishes a small fire and then attempts to restore communications, while Athena and Boxey tend to the wounded.
* Tigh believes the Cylon fighters were packed with [[solonite]] or a similar explosive. [[Boroton]] is used to extinguish the fire on the bridge, but they have lost "deep scan" and internal communications. They decide to use the Viper pilots as their "scanners", so they begin rotating squadrons to maintain a constant patrol.
* The damage report is grim: not only was [[energizer]] #1 destroyed, but so was the boroton mist control center (the main firefighting system aboard ''Galactica''). Also, fires rage out of control on numerous decks throughout their crippled vessel.
* Smoke begins pouring into the rejuvenation center from the damaged doorway, but the lifemasks were destroyed in the initial impact. The stranded occupants move to the "safe" side of the room, while Boomer begins trying to hotwire the door to the storage compartment.
* Apollo visits a gravely injured Adama, who needs an emergency medical procedure that is quite risky, given ''Galactica's'' fragile state.
* After several attempts, Boomer finally succeeds in opening the door. The trapped crew members crowd safely through the door to (temporary) safety. Boomer dives through the hatchway just as the outer door succumbs to the raging fire outside.
* Apollo studies ''Galactica's'' schematics to find a way to reach his stranded sister and son. A small duct (part of the ship's intricate ventilation system) connects the bridge to the rest of the ship, including the rejuvenation center, but the accessway is too small for a person to negotiate.
* Tigh's first and foremost priority is putting out the fire threatening the ship. Apollo suggests firing boroton into the launch bay from a modified version of a Viper laser turret, while the Fire Captain thinks of a new way to use the [[megapressure pump]]s in conjunction with the firefighting equipment.
* Boomer, who has found their end of the small access way, affixes a help note to Muffit. Boxey order the mechanized daggit into the tunnel to seek help.
* As they activate the megapressure pump connected to the boroton firefighting system, Apollo, Starbuck, and finally Sheba fire their boroton loads into the landing bay, extinguishing the flames. However, the megapressure pump blows a seal and fails, reigniting the flames in the landing bay.
* As the inferno nears energizer #2, causing a momentary loss of power in [[sickbay]], Adama is prepped for emergency surgery. He suggests Tigh put out the fire by blowing portions of the hull, employing the vacuum of space.
* Apollo and Starbuck don EVA suits and begin spacewalking (with tether lines), planting explosive devices at various points along the hull. Apollo remembers Boxey's "mushies" trick, and suggests to Tigh to put mushies near the open duct, which he does.
* As the temperature climbs to critical in the energizer and solium compartments, Muffit emerges unexpectedly onto the bridge from the ventilation duct. They attach lifemasks and a note from Tigh onto his collar and send him back to their stranded crewmates, who are sharing scant few lifemasks amid deteriorating conditions.
* A handhold on the hull used by Starbuck breaks away, but Apollo reacts quickly to catch him.
* Dr. Salik undertakes the critical procedure on Adama, as the energizer temperature exceeds critical.
* While making the hazardous journey back to the storage compartment, Muffit sees a fallen firefighter in the corridor below. However, he continues with his mission, delivering the lifemasks and Tigh's note.
* As Boomer and Athena prepare for the hull to be blown, Muffit dashes back into the duct, disappearing down the tunnel. Boxey dives in after him but is retrieved by Boomer.
* Apollo loses his grip and floats, adrift in space. Starbuck leaps toward him, the momentum carrying them to safety as the hull charges detonate, extinguishing the blaze once and for all.
* Adama, after a successful surgery, is awake and recovering in sickbay. Muffit, presumed dead, is suddenly brought in on a stretcher, badly burnt but still functional. * In the [[rejuvenation center]], crew members are briefly seen playing a board game resembling a combination of chess and checkers. Instead of being a two-player game, though, there are four players, each sitting at an edge of the playing board.
* Other rejuvenation center games include Colonial variations of billiards (without cue sticks), table tennis and shuffleboard.
* Boomer and Boxey agree to play a game called "[[compartment bulyarks]]" but are interrupted by the attack.
* Unlike the [[Officer's Club]], the rejuvenation center is open to everyone aboard ''Galactica'', from flight officers to crewmen; even civilians, children, and daggits appear welcome. == Analysis ==

* ''Battlestar Galactica'' meets classic 1970's-style disaster movie. If all the "action" caused by dealing with the fire mentioned in the title was removed, very little is left in the way of story or character development. Despite the [[Cylons (TOS)|Cylon]] attack at the beginning of the show, the real enemy is the fire. This episode marks a point in the series when the Cylons disappear for the rest of the season, until their appearance in the final episode. Perhaps this is because the Cylons didn't represent a credible threat to the Fleet after the Colonials overcame overwhelming odds so many times, or maybe Glen Larson and company were trying to take the show in a different direction.
* This episode did give a few of the secondary characters a moment to shine. Colonel Tigh gets to take command for the first time since the Battle of Kobol in "Lost Planet of the Gods, Part II", returning the Fleet to his commander in considerably better shape than his re-imagined counterpart. The situation with Tigh having to assume command for an injured Adama plays itself out in the Re-imagined series starting with "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II". [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]] demonstrates that he picked up some unusual skills in his misspent youth, establishing some basis for the electronics expertise that he demonstrates in "The Hand of God". Muffit gets to save the day, not only through his nose for mushies, but also in saving the firefighter.
* This is something of a standalone episode, in that no subsequent episodes make note of any consequences from the damage to ''Galactica'' or Adama. The only element that would constrain this episode is the presence of Sheba, which would require this episode to be shown after "The Living Legend, Part II". Otherwise it might have aired in almost any available slot.
* In most disaster situations, when chaos is reigning, initial reports are very terse, with extremely limited and fragmented information. Despite this, [[Omega]] seems to have accurate information on the whereabouts of Boxey, Boomer, and Athena.
** In sickbay, a crewman tells [[Cassiopeia]] that he saw Boomer, Athena and Boxey "go in there [the rejuvenation center] right before the attack". But how is this possible, as they didn't enter together at the same time? When Boomer is first seen entering the room, Athena and Boxey were already comfortably camped out playing the shuffleboard game (which Boxey was winning, as they made a point of mentioning in the dialog). It is possible that the crewman couldn't remember correctly because his eyes were constantly being diverting down to Cassiopeia's figure; he couldn't quit glancing down at it, even while being led away.
* Interestingly, the storage room seems to be about half as big as the rejuvenation center itself. It even had its own phone.
* Equipping the Vipers with boraton pumps sounds like a feasible plan in the long run, but it also sounds like something that couldn't be done at the snap of the fingers, given that the equipment comes from two totally separate systems (military attack craft, firefighting equipment).
* The fire is a plot point mirrored in the [[Battlestar Galactica (RDM)|re-imagined]] [[Miniseries]]. Here the crew of ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' deal with the fire by decompressing the area where the fire is spreading after a hit with a nuclear warhead. With oxygen depleted, the fire is effectively removed as a threat. In the Original Series however, Adama's comments about having the fire "smothered" by the vacuum of space is a sound approach, however the approach itself is not, as ''Galactica'' should have been able to open the airlocks to space in the affected sections and killed the fire that way, without blowing a hole in the hull.

* If the attack destroyed internal communication, how does Omega know so quickly (within [[Centon (TOS)|centons]]) that Boomer, Athena and Boxey are stranded in the rejuvenation center?
* Why is the storage compartment of the rejuvenation center so large and accommodating?
* How do the technical crews so quickly adapt the boroton pressure pumps to the Vipers' laser turrets?
* After activating the device interfacing the megapressure pump system with the boroton firefighting system, why do the engineers walk away from the device, leaving it completely unattended?
* If Tigh ordered Omega to "have some mushies sent up" to the bridge, then why is he seen fetching them himself soon thereafter? Wouldn't it make more sense to have someone from the mess hall bring it to the bridge, rather than have the acting commander of the fleet go to the kitchen to perform a delivery himself?
* Given the length of ''Galactica'' and seeing as the rejuvenation center is in the middle of the ship, how is Muffit able to find the mushies at the bridge by smell? Would it have be easier to find a vent opening in an area closest to the rejuvenation center that is not threatened by the fire?
* Why aren't Colonial spacesuits equipped with boots that can be magnetized?
* Why blow the hull? Doesn't ''Galactica'' have airlocks?
* Furthermore, in the event of a hull breach, wouldn't the duct system (so aptly used by Muffit) be compromised and thus drain compartments of air this way?
* With ''Galactica'' having multiple decks, and with a duct system that may very likely have vertical ducts as well as horizontal ones, how is Muffit able to navigate them?
* Where are the other ships in the Fleet during all this? Why don't they send people over to help?

* The basestars would attack while the ships were capturing the fuel, so Cain proposes that one battlestar engage the basestars in a delaying tactic. He suggests ''Pegasus'' for that duty, as ''Galactica'' is still undergoing repairs.

* Adama calls Cain into his quarters. Adama is afraid that Cain does not comprehend the risks to [[The Fleet (TOS)|the fleet]] that his plan calls for. Cain claims that is what the delaying operation is for. Adama decides to go with Cain's plan, only asking that there be no more surprises.

* [[Cassiopeia]] sees Cain in the hallway, and wants to talk to him. Cain doesn't have time, as the mission starts soon, and he won't let her come to ''Pegasus''. He says she will be safer on ''Galactica''. He tells her he loves her, and that he'll see her after the mission.

* [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]] asks Apollo what their odds are, walking right into a Cylon city. Apollo doesn't think Boomer really wants to know. [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] comes in carrying extra [[laser pistol]]s thinking that they might need some extra firepower.

* [[Bojay]] and [[Sheba]] enter, asking to check in. They have been assigned to the mission by Commander Cain. They claim to be the only ones familiar with the target. They've flown over it several times, but have never been on the ground.

* Sheba seems pessimistic about their success, while Starbuck remains optimistic. He offers a side bet of a "personal" nature. Sheba declines, as she wouldn't want to have to throw the mission just to avoid the bet.

* Cassiopeia stops Starbuck on the way to the shuttles. She wants to talk to him. Starbuck tries to brush her off, but she insists on trying to find out what Cain is planning. She thinks he isn't planning on coming back, or he would have let her go to ''Pegasus''. Sheba agrees, and wants to go find out what he is planning. Apollo points out that Cain ordered her on the mission, but she admits that the whole thing was her idea. Cassiopeia offers to take her place, pointing out that they don't have a medtech with them.

* Baltar asks for the situation report from [[Lucifer]]. Lucifer reports that the consensus is that they should ask for help from the base on Gamoray. Baltar dislikes the idea of the commander of Gamoray taking credit for destroying ''Galactica''. Baltar asks for the strength of the base, and Lucifer tells him that there are four complete squadrons, the equivalent of a base star. Baltar realizes that they have the firepower of four basestars at their disposal, and orders an immediate attack.

* The [[warrior]]s prepare to jump out of the shuttle. Apollo tells everybody to home in on Sheba and Bojay's location since they have the best chance of spotting the base.

* A pair of IL-series drones discuss what an honor it is for the [[Imperious Leader]] to make a trip all the way from Cylon. A [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Centurion]] arrives and announces that the Imperious Leader's ship has landed at the [[spacedrome]].

* The Warriors land their parachutes with guns blazing, taking out a couple of Centurion sentries.

* Apollo spots a munitions bunker, and forms a plan to destroy it as a diversion.

* The warriors have set their charges, but have lost track of Bojay. Bojay is still planting charges when a Centurion sentry spots him. They exchange laser fire. The Centurion is terminated but Bojay is injured.

* Sheba runs back for Bojay. Cassiopeia and Apollo run after her.

* Starbuck is worried that they need to attack soon in order to take advantage of the diversion, so he and Boomer begin their attack on the anti-assault batteries without the rest of the team.

* Cassiopeia treats Bojays wounds, and they get moving again carrying Bojay.

* The Imperious Leader claims that it is an honor to dedicate the new southern center of Cylon culture, for the advance of and perfection of the Cylon race. With this secure outpost deep in the Krillian star system, their supremacy is all but assured.

* Boomer and Starbuck wonder where all the Cylons are.

* The explosives at the munitions depot explode.

* The IL-series drones are horrified. The Imperious Leader inquires as to what the explosion was. The Imperious Leader orders two command Centurions to find out.

* The group with Bojay make it far enough away from the explosions to survive the blast, but Bojay cannot continue. Sheba offers to stay behind, but Cassiopeia says that Sheba is needed with Apollo, so Cassie will stay with Bojay.

* Apollo gives Cassiopeia one of his laser pistols, and he and Sheba head out.

* Boomer and Starbuck sneak up near the command station of the anti-assault batteries. They try to sneak up around one of the doors, when a Centurion spots them and fires. They destroy the Centurion, starting a firefight.

* Starbuck wants to get out of there, claiming there are too many to handle. Boomer asks about the control center, and Starbuck's response is to prime a hand mine and toss it into the center.

* Apollo and Sheba arrive just in time for the control center to go up in smoke.

* ''Galactica'' has entered Raider range of Gamoray, and the Cylons will be sending fighters at them regardless of ground missile support. Adama orders fighters to launch, and to notify ''Pegasus''.

* ''Galactica'''s Vipers begin wreaking havoc on the base, destroying structures and any Cylons foolish enough to be wandering around outside.

* Baltar prepares for the final attack against ''Galactica'' and ''Pegasus''. Lucifer brings bad news, letting Baltar know that the battlestars are over Gamoray. Baltar says that this is perfect, as it leaves the fleet unprotected.

* Baltar orders an attack launched on the fleet. Lucifer points out that there is a special envoy on Gamoray headed by the Imperious Leader. Baltar changes his tune, ordering all ships to attack the battlestars.

* Cassiopeia nearly kills Apollo as the team returns from the raid. Two shuttles have been sent to retrieve them.

* The shuttle heads towards ''Pegasus'' under Cassiopeia's orders. She claims that it is a medical emergency, and ''Pegasus'' is the closer of the two ships.

* Cassiopeia tells Starbuck that the decision really was made with Bojay in mind, but that she still hadn't decided between him and Cain. Starbuck understands, claiming that everybody is entitled to some confusion.

* [[Tolan]] reports an unbelievable number of Cylon ships heading towards them. Cain orders an intercept course. Tolan asks if they are going to lead them away, but Cain responds that they are going to go right through them to Baltar's basestar.

* Apollo realizes that if Baltar sees ''Pegasus'' coming for him he will recall all the ships from Gamoray to defend himself.

* Cain asks how the mission went, and Apollo says that Bojay took a hit but that Sheba and Cassiopeia are fine. Cain is surprised that Sheba and Cassie went.

* Apollo questions Cain's attack plan, fearing for the lives of the warriors (including Cain's daughter). Cain claims that he knows how to win a battle.

* Cain comes down to the [[Life Station|life sciences station]] where Sheba is visiting Bojay. Sheba leaves when he arrives, claiming she needs to be ready to launch. Cain asks her to shuttle Bojay to ''Galactica'', but Sheba says that what is planned for her Squadron is planned for her.

* Sheba tells Cain that she saw Cassiopeia risk her life to save a life, and gives him her blessing regarding the two.

* The Vipers launch forming a spearhead in front of ''Pegasus''. There are so many Raiders it is hard for them to miss, but they are losing Vipers.

* The Vipers carve a corridor for ''Pegasus'', and Cain orders her ahead at full speed.

* Baltar learns that the ''Pegasus'' did not stop to engage the raiders, and realizes that she is supposed to be a decoy. He orders the raiders to break off and continue to Gamoray.

* The Raiders have heavily damaged ''Pegasus'', forcing Apollo to break off their spearhead operation to return to help. Sheba's Viper is heavily damaged, so Apollo and Starbuck offer to lead her back to ''Pegasus''.

* The Raiders receive their orders to disengage ''Pegasus'' and head straight for Gamoray.

* ''Galactica'' picks up the Raiders on their sensors. Adama fears Cain's plan has failed. He orders the ground teams that are collecting fuel to finish up and begin returning.

* Cain visits the wounded at the life sciences station. Cassiopeia asks him if he is winning his battle, and Cain asks if she thinks it is his own personal war.

* Sheba comes in on a stretcher, apologizing to her father for missing a Cylon. Cassiopeia rushes off with her for treatment.

* Apollo and Starbuck ask if the damage on ''Pegasus'' is under control. Cain replies that ''Pegasus'' will be ready for what she needs to do.

* Starbuck and Apollo suspect his plan, and advise Cassiopeia to prepare the wounded to be transported in shuttles.

* ''Galactica'''s sensors report that ''Pegasus'' is heading straight for the basestars. Adama realizes that this was Cain's plan all along that he never intended to lead the fighters away.

* Adama tries to talk Cain out of his attack. Cain is determined to attack, as it will draw the fighters off of ''Galactica''. Cain has sent the wounded and non-essential personnel in shuttles to the fleet.

* Adama says the same effect would be achieved if Cain veers off right before getting to the baseships, but Cain doesn't want the raiders to be able to refuel and resume attacks on ''Galactica''. Adama threatens to relieve Cain of command, but Cain ends up getting his way.

* Baltar realizes that Cain is coming for him. He recalls the Raiders.

* Cain praises Starbuck and Apollo, and wishes them luck. Starbuck offers to stay with Cain, but Cain wants Apollo to have all the help he can to defend the shuttles if the raiders encounter them on their way back.

* Cain is planning on taking ''Pegasus'' (without Vipers) against the three basestars (without their Raiders).

* Starbuck is afraid they'll never see Cain again, but Apollo has a feeling that Cain may still yet make it somehow.

* Cain says goodbye to Sheba, who doesn't want to leave ''Pegasus''. Cassiopeia says that Cain is a very special man, and that she will never forget him.

* Lucifer informs Baltar that the raiders won't return in time to defend them. Baltar orders his ship to drop back and to let the other basestars engage ''Pegasus''.

* Starbuck calculates that the raiders will not encounter the shuttles. He proposes that they drop back to see if they can help ''Pegasus''. Boomer is put in charge, allowing Apollo and Starbuck to head back.

* Starbuck and Apollo realize that ''Pegasus'' is going between the two basestars. They decide to try to take out the flank missile launchers on both of them.

* ''Pegasus'' launches all missiles on the basestars at point blank range. Starbuck and Apollo back off as the missiles begin to launch.

* The basestars go up in a dramatic explosion, blinding the Viper pilots. All that is left is smoke and debris, and ''Pegasus'' is nowhere to be seen.

* The raiders are approaching, so Apollo and Starbuck head back to the fleet at maximum speed.

* Sheba is recovering in the life sciences station. She asks if there is any word from her father, but Adama says that her father wouldn't risk breaking radio silence to give away his position.

* Starbuck says that for all they knew ''Pegasus'' could have headed out for deep space, as the raiders would have been too low on fuel to pursue.

* Adama tells Sheba that until they make contact with ''Pegasus'' again he'd like her to consider herself part of their family. Sheba says that she already does.

== Notes ==

* This is the last appearance of the [[Imperious Leader]], apart from ''[[Galactica 1980]]'', and his most visible.
* With ''Pegasus'''s [[Viper (TOS)|Viper]] pilots stranded aboard ''Galactica'', two new recurring characters have been added: Lieutenants [[Sheba]] and [[Bojay]].
* Bojay would only be seen for a few episodes, with his last appearance onscreen in "[[War of the Gods, Part II]]".
* This episode features the only use of shuttles for parachuting troops.
* One of the parachute stuntmen appears to have a mustache, yet none of the warrior characters have one.
* Some of the scenes on the ground at the Gamoray base were filmed at night on the campus of the [http://www.csun.edu/ University of California at Northridge].

== Analysis ==

* Sheba grows to be an important character and ultimately a romantic interest for Apollo. [[Ronald D. Moore]] has suggested in interviews that he felt Sheba was originally a one-shot character, designed to be a female version of the dedicated and brooding Captain Apollo, and thus created a dramatic tension akin to Apollo meeting a mirror image of himself. Having achieved this with the character of [[Kara Thrace]], there was no need to create an analog of Sheba when ''Pegasus'' was introduced in the [[Re-imagined Series]].
* Furthermore, the introduction of another child of a battlestar Commander, commanding a Viper squadron, does seem a bit obvious, but Sheba does seem to have her own characteristics, even early on. For example, having Starbuck make a pass at Apollo's dopplegänger is humorous, but the rapid manner in which she dismisses the brash Lieutenant has perhaps more to do with the strained relationship between Cain, Starbuck, Cassiopeia and Sheba. The Cain/Sheba relationship is very much unique in the series, and may hint at what writers may have hoped to do with [[Athena (TOS)|Athena]].
* From this point on the producers determine to keep Anne Lockhart's Sheba aboard ''Galactica'', and she rapidly assumes the place that Athena originally was designed to have in the program, while Athena herself is assigned the role of elementary school teacher. By the time "[[The Hand of God (TOS)|The Hand of God]]", Athena is no longer part of the show, and Sheba occupies the role of one of the two female leads in the series.
** Interestingly enough, Serina, Cassiopeia and Sheba, who are the most successful female roles in the series, all appear to have been characters that were originally planned to be written out, while Athena, the only planned recurring character, was ultimately written out.

== Summary ==

* [[Apollo (TOS)|Apollo]] and [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] are being pursued by unidentified objects from behind them in the heart of the [[Delphian Empire]].

* The objects are none other then two other [[Colonial]] [[Viper (TOS)|Vipers]] flown by Lieutenant [[Sheba]], and Lieutenant [[Bojay]].

* Just as Sheba and Bojay are about to finish off Apollo and Starbuck, Sheba's [[scanner]] shows that the occupant of the Viper she is pursuing is human and orders a cease fire. In the ensuing dialogue, Apollo and Starbuck are informed that Sheba is strike leader of Silver Spar Squadron. They are re-united with Bojay, who once served with ''[[Galactica (TOS)|Galactica]]'s'' [[Blue Squadron]] before he was transferred to the [[Fifth Fleet]] that perished at the [[Battle of Molecay]], two [[Yahren (TOS)|yahrens]] before.

Colonel [[Tigh (TOS)|Tigh]] reports that there is what appears to be scans of something massive, the size of a [[Cylons (TOS)|Cylon]] city not too far off. Adama orders the fleet to dead stop while awaiting word on the fate of Apollo and Starbuck's patrol.

* Apollo and Starbuck are re-united with warriors aboard ''Pegasus'' and are informed that Cain ordered the ''Pegasus'' out into deep space after the [[Battle of Molecay]]. They have been fighting the Cylons and using fuel and weapons from the Cylons to fuel their own personal war effort.

* Colonel [[Tolan]], Cain's second in command, takes Apollo and Starbuck to Cain's quarters, where are re-united with the "living legend." They inform Cain of the fate of the [[The Twelve Colonies (TOS)|Colonies]], and of the 220 ship rag-tag fleet. Cain, now with information of ''Galactica'' surviving the war, declares that the Cylon Empire is about to fall as he plans to mount an offensive.

* Aboard ''Galactica'', [[Athena (TOS)|Athena]] informs Adama and Colonel Tigh that there is a visual echo coming from the scans ahead. The scanner shows a battlestar. [[Omega]] informs Adama of a message coming over Fleet Com-Line Alpha — a communications channel used only between Colonial warships. Adama feels the message is a hoax, but Cain appears on the monitor and informs Adama, much to the delight of the latter, that he will be aboard shortly.

* Cain, with Apollo and Starbuck in tow as he boards ''Galactica'', informs Adama that the Cylons now control [[Gamoray (TOS)|Gamoray]], a society once thriving with 50 million people. This means the Cylons now control over half the universe.

* Cain had been doing strike runs on Gamoray for fuel to fund his war campaign, but could not figure out why the Cylons didn't send [[Basestar (TOS)|basestars]] to finish him off. His answer was now clear: the renegade traffic the Cylons were having problems with was ''Galactica'' and her fleet.

*Cain tries to get Adama to side with him in an effort to conquer the Cylons on Gamoray. But Adama declines, citing the safety of the fleet as his main priority.

* Aboard ''Pegasus'', Cain meets with Starbuck and Apollo and asks about a woman he once knew before the war. It turns out the woman was [[Cassiopeia]], the woman Starbuck is involved with. Cain then introduces the two to Sheba, his daughter.

* After the meeting Apollo asks Starbuck whether he plans to tell Cassiopeia about Cain's survival. Starbuck dismisses any suggestion of Cassiopeia rekindling a romance with Cain again, but Starbuck does tell her later that Cain is alive. Cassiopeia immediately runs off to reunite with her former lover aboard ''Pegasus''. They share a tender embrace and reminisce before Cassiopeia tells Cain about her relationship with Starbuck. She asks Cain for time for her to think.

* Aboard ''Galactica'', Apollo asks Starbuck how Cassiopeia took the news. Viewers learn a little of Starbuck's character: The [[warrior]] doesn't form deep attachments to people after being raised on his own. Young [[Boxey (TOS)|Boxey]] puts in his two cents in, reeling off a list of other women Starbuck has waiting for him.

* Back on ''Pegasus'', Cain and Cassiopeia talk about Sheba and how their relationship may cause issues between Cain and his daughter.

* Meanwhile in the Officers' Lounge, Apollo and Starbuck meet with warriors from Silver Spar Squadron. Sheba and Apollo butt heads over the military differences between Adama and Cain. Cain enters the lounge with Cassiopeia and Sheba leaves, very uncomfortable with seeing her. Apollo confronts Sheba about the conflict, but Sheba says that working with Apollo won't be a problem.

* A meeting of the commanders is convened and a plan is made to intercept [[Cylon freighter (TOS)|Cylon Tankers]] to provide fuel for the fleet. Adama proposes to use a squadron from each of the battlestars. Cain declines at first but Adama reminds him of the need for the warriors to integrate for the benefit of morale. Cain agrees, boasting that his warriors would be glad to pass along their experience to ''Galactica's'' warriors. Apollo is surprised by Cain's arrogance.

* During pre-launch, Sheba discovers that Cain has joined the mission, to her surprise and concern. During the mission they are intercepted by a Cylon patrol. Blue Squadron seems at the mercy of the Cylons until Silver Spar Squadron engages. Cain orders Blue Squadron to pursue while he goes off to take care of the tankers.

* Cain destroys the tankers against orders, and tells a disbelieving Apollo that he was firing at a Cylon fighter.

*Aboard ''Galactica'', Cain maintains his story during a meeting with Adama, Apollo and Sheba, and also cites Blue Squadron's inexperience. Cain now pushes the attack on Gamoray to Adama, stating that it is now essential to seize fuel for the fleet. Adama tells Cain, rather tersely, that he will give his answer in the morning.

* Apollo knows the truth but remains silent. Confronting Sheba, she maintains that the tankers were hit by incidental fire. Apollo tells her that he has found a weakness or two.

* Another war meeting is convened and Cain pushes harder for a total victory at Gamoray. Adama again declines, citing the risk of too great a loss of life, and offers an alternative; ''Pegasus'' is carrying a full fuel load and Adama wishes to distribute part of that load amongst the fleet. Cain still feels a victory is possible. Adama is not interested and orders the fuel to be distributed. When Cain refuses the order, Adama (the ranking officer) relieves Cain of his command, and orders Tigh to assume the bridge of the ''Pegasus''.

*In the Officers' Lounge, Sheba and Bojay tell Cain that the ''Pegasus's crew'' will follow his orders . Cain refuses, telling the two that what they are talking about is mutiny. Cain may be the stubbornest warrior in the fleet, but he's also the best, and won't leave the fleet defenseless.

* Aboard Baltar's basestar, [[Lucifer]] informs [[Baltar (TOS)|Baltar]] of the finding of the Colonial Fleet. Baltar tells Lucifer to prepare of an attack to finally finish off ''Galactica'' for good without support from Gamoray. All Baltar wants is a celebration from Gamoray and to take command of Gamoray for himself. Lucifer suggests that they go through the formality of destroying the humans ''before'' organising the victory celebrations.

*Lucifer questions Baltar's plan. Baltar responds that there are other [[Cylons (TOS)|IL-series]] Cylons that will gladly be at his side after the victory. Baltar then offers to personally lead the strike force to punctuate his point of victory much to Lucifer's surprise.

* Meanwhile Apollo, Starbuck, Boomer and Jolly board ''Pegasus'' for the fuel distribution. Tolan and Tigh confer on the ''Pegasus''' bridge: Tolan wonders if they should wait until the bad moods on board from the warriors over the treatment of Cain subside. Tigh disagrees and orders the transfers to begin.

* In ''Pegasus'' landing bay, ''Galactica's'' warriors are met with resistance from Silver Spar Squadron, culminating in Sheba and Bojay drawing their pistols. Just as it appears a fight is imminent, an alert is sounded as Cylons attack the Fleet.

* On ''Galactica'', Cain and Adama agree to use ''Galctica'' to defend the Fleet, while ''Pegasus'' accelerates to [[lightspeed]] to swing round behind the Cylon task force (the largest one since the destruction of the Colonies), and catch them between two fires.

* Cain flies his Viper back to ''Pegasus'' and informs Tolan and Tigh of his resumption of command on the battlestar. His crew cheers while Tolan tells Tigh that the situation isn't personal. Tigh understands, commenting "How can you fight a living legend?"

* ''Galactica'' takes heavy damage to her Alpha landing bay. Just as it seems the Cylons are going to destroy the ship, Baltar's Cylon pilot informs him of a second battlestar. Baltar is incredulous, but the pilot re-confirms the second battlestar's existence. When Baltar sees the ''Pegasus'' coming straight for him, he orders his pilot to retreat.

== Notes ==
* This is the first appearance of [[Lloyd Bridges]] as Commander [[Cain (TOS)|Cain]], [[Anne Lockhart]] as [[Sheba]] and [[Jack Stauffer]] as [[Bojay]].
* In the episode "[[War of the Gods, Part I (TOS)|War of The Gods]]," Jack Stauffer returns as Bojay in command of ''Galactica's'' new [[Silver Spar Squadron]].
* In addition, this is the first episode that represents a shift where Caprica becomes the dominant colony mentioned. For instance, the [[Battle of Cimtar]] is referred to as primarily Caprica centered, with no mention of the other colonies, although all the other colonies were apparently equally targeted.
* This is the first mention of more then just one fleet in the Colonial Military. In the pilot there appeared to be only one main fleet. ''Pegasus'' was part of the Fifth Fleet.
* Sheba was introduced as a new love interest for Apollo and their relationship was to develop over the course of the series had it continued into more seasons.
* Commander Cain and ''Pegasus'' were also slated to return in future episodes had the show not been cancelled.
* This two-part episode and the episode "[[Fire in Space]]" were edited together for a video release called ''[[Mission Galactica: The Cylon Attack]]''. In this video, [[Jolly]]'s report comes at the beginning, then followed by Apollo and Starbucks' patrol scene. The first 45 mins to an hour of this video were more narrative in nature with some scenes taken out completely from the original aired episodes.

== Analysis ==
* In "The Living Legend", a decidedly popular episode of the original Galactica series, we [[Adama (TOS)|Adama]] finally meets his match, when confronted with another military leader, Commander Cain, who has his own league of loyal troops, and his own battlestar to boot. One of the few story arcs from the Original Series to be remade in the [[Re-imagined Series]], "The Living Legend'' provides many memorable moments, introduces a new regular character to the show (Lieutenant Sheba) and above all brings us Lloyd Bridges' interpretation of Commander Cain, an old "war daggit" if there ever was one.
* Dramatically, the juxtaposition of two battlestar crews is interesting, as loyalties are put to the test when the military philosophies of the two commanders clash. Thematically, however, the episode is perhaps a bit more unclear. Adama, who has reluctantly followed the edicts of the [[Council of Twelve]], represents a sort of benign military rule, coupled with the religious mantle that he wears as the person who is guiding the Fleet to the promised land of [[Earth (TOS)|Earth]]. Cain, patterned no doubt on George C. Scott's depiction of the famous WWII general in the acclaimed 1970 movie ''[[imdb:0066206|Patton]],'' represents a different philosophy - A damn-the-torpedoes, full-steam-ahead military machismo that Adama worries will get everyone killed. This point of view is never really challenged, however, and Cain takes a good portion of his crew and the battlestar ''Pegasus'' with him on a military gamble that at the end of the episode is never confirmed to have worked or not. By surrendering on more than one occasion to Cain's view, Commander Adama seems to legitimate it, which must leave the viewer with the conclusion that Cain's philosophy is valuable and a good counterpoint to Adama's perspective. In other words, Adama has not been militaristic enough? Perhaps.
* Cain was a character that was planned to return. [[Count Iblis]] suggests Sheba would see her father again a few episodes later, and there was apparently a script idea for a reunion had the series continued. Glen A. Larson's brief attempt to revive Galactica prior to the Moore production also involved Cain and the Battlestar ''Pegasus'', and the character has appeared in fan fiction and comics over the years.
