Overview
:It's been four months since the Cylons occupied the human settlement of New Caprica, and Galactica, Pegasus, and a handful of ships jumped to safety. On New Caprica, a resistance has begun to challenge the Cylons. Aboard Galactica, Admiral Adama struggles with plans for a rescue, having only a handful of untested pilots at his command, understaffed ships, and facing a nearly impossible task.

Summary
*The episode begins with a series of cut scenes. Light flashes over Saul Tigh's face. He is in a prison cell, his missing eye patched over with a gauze bandage, and has scratched notches into a calendar on the wall. His wife, Ellen Tigh, is having sex with one of the Cavils. Laura Roslin lights a candle and prays to the gods. Galen Tyrol and Samuel Anders are planting a bomb using G-4 and an A-type detonator within a building space.
*Kara Thrace is inside a neatly decorated room, setting a table.
*Admiral William Adama tries to strategize a rescue plan with a series of various models of fighters, support vehicles and other civilian ships in the Situation Room's plot table, but becomes frustrated and hurls a model across the table.
*Another Cavil walks into Tigh's cell and taunts him as he attempts to hide the calendar that he has scratched in the wall. A copy of Leoben Conoy walks into the room where Thrace sits at table, carrying her dinner. He sits and prays to "The Heavenly Father."
*Thrace coyly asks the Conoy copy for a knife for her steak, but Conoy takes his knife and cuts her steak himself.
*Tyrol and Anders scatter away as a Heavy Raider lands near their bomb.
*After Ellen Tigh's liaison with her Cavil copy, she asks when will she gets what she asked for, suggesting a previous deal. The Cylon informs her that it should be happening right at that moment. At same time, the Cavil in the cell with Colonel Tigh releases him from prison in a very taunting way. Tigh exits the prison and his wife meets him at the gate.
*A group of 'skinjobs' including at least 3 Eights, 3 Sixes, and 2 Fives approach the Heavy Raider as several 'chromejobs' exit it. Tyrol and Anders set off the bomb. A great explosion ensues that is witnessed by the Conoy copy with Thrace from their apartment. He returns to the table, pushes his knife away from Thrace.
*As he comments on how beautiful she is, Thrace stabs him in the neck with metal chopsticks. As he dies (while Thrace repeatedly stabs his chest for good measure), he tells Thrace that he will see her soon. She tells him to take his time. Then, after wiping her hand on the carpet, she returns to the table and calmly resumes eating dinner.
*Colonel Tigh is running the resistance effort, with Tyrol and Anders acting as his second in command officers.
*Every day a Raptor jumps in and listens for a wireless broadcast. With the list of jamming frequencies provided by Gaeta, Tyrol manages to contact the Colonial Fleet.
*With little left to lose, Duck prays to the gods. He has placed several packs of explosives around his waist, wiring himself as a living bomb. He dons his NCP uniform to attend their graduation ceremony, intending to kill Gaius Baltar and as many traitors and Cylons as he can.
*Baltar decides not to attend the graduation ceremony. Gaeta is unable to signal Tyrol in time of this last-minute change.
*The Leoben copy with Thrace introduces her to Kacey, supposedly another Cylon-human hybrid fertilized by this Cylon's consciousness and using Thrace's egg from her stolen ovary. Thrace immediately treats it as an "it."

Questions
*How did Anders manage to recover from his pneumonia without the medical supplies Thrace was seeking in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II"?
** It is possible his own bodily defenses fought it off or he received medical supplies from a Cylon.
*Is this episode further evidence that Jammer is another Cylon model? He was standing next to Duck when they assembled for the graduation, and it is unlikely that he would have survived the explosion at such close range.
**In the podcast, Ronald D. Moore reveals that Jammer survives Duck's attack, yet another issue that he has to deal with. An unfilmed scene was to show him waking up, under bodies, and having to move body parts out of the way. It was to be shown where his flashback of Cally Tyrol's arrest occurs.

Analysis
* Prior to the Cylon occupation, the population of New Caprica City was 39,192. Taking into account "Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance" and the end of this episode, the projected population count is at 39,149 due to the following:
** 44 deaths: Nora, Tucker Clellan, Longo, 32 human deaths in the bombing of the NCP graduation in this episode, and 9 additional deaths at the Cylons raid on the temple during "The Resistance".
*** The number of dead given is 33 in "Precipice", but one is subtracted from that count to include Tucker in the above listing.
*** The number of dead given is 10 in "Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance, Part 6". One is subtracted from this count to include Nora in the above list.
** 1 birth: Nicholas Tyrol.
**The above results in a net loss of 43 humans. This number does not include any births or deaths that may have happened outside of the events shown, therefore being prone to error.
* Several New Capricans appear to have sores or lesions on their faces.
* During the episode, Conoy mentions that Kara Thrace has succeeded in killing Conoy five times (including the killing that was shown).

Notes
*"Occupation/Precipice" was awarded the IGN.com Editor's choice award, following a review in which it received a rating of 10/10.
*"Occupation" and "Precipice" is edited as one 2-hr episode with only one intro. However, in the podcast, Ronald D. Moore indicates the "beginning" of "Precipice".
*Unlike episodes of Season 2, the intro to this episode does not give the survivor count. The population whiteboard present in Season 1 has been replaced by Baltar's presidential portrait.
*The episode opens on the 134th day since the Cylon occupation.
*In her Diary/Journal Roslin notes that it is "Marsday", which is the Roman name for Ares. This is at least the second time that the Roman names for the Greek pantheon has been used.
*Crew changes in the year after settlement glimpsed in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I" are confirmed here: Helo is serving as XO on Galactica, with Kat as CAG. Dualla is serving as XO on Pegasus.
* Lee Adama has gained roughly 40 pounds since the the fleet found New Caprica. The Admiral states that he is soft, both physically and mentally.

Noteworthy Dialogue
*After hearing that contact had been established with New Caprica <br />
:Admiral Adama: "It's gonna be okay. It's really gonna be okay." <br />
Production Number
What's up with "Episode 1.5"? Shouldn't this count as episode 2 of the season, even if it's being aired as a 2-hour premiere? --Peter Farago 03:53, 3 October 2006 (CDT)
:Thats what ive always said, but for some reason all the episode numbering is messed up. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 04:35, 3 October 2006 (CDT)
:The writers officially count "Occupation / Precipice" as one episode. Bradley Thompson said that there will probably be only one intro. So "Precipice" still belongs to episode 1 (hence 1.5) and Season 3 only has 19 episodes on paper --Serenity 05:21, 3 October 2006 (CDT)
::However, in terms of budgeting and production, "Occupation/Precipice" was 3.01 and 3.02, while "Exodus, Part I" and "Exodus, Part II" were both 3.03. Clearly our numbering system shouldn't reflect the vagaries of production, or else both parts of "Resurrection Ship" would be episodes 2.11 and Season 2 would only have 19 episodes.
::At the same time, we should ask - were "Occupation" and "Precipice" truly edited into a single episode, or is SciFi simply airing two episodes back to back on premiere night? In the event of the former, there should be a single entry for both "Occupation" and "Precipice". In the latter, they should retain separate entries, and each should have their own episode number (and none of this "1.5" business). --Peter Farago 05:34, 3 October 2006 (CDT)
:::FWIW, SciFi's schedule has the premiere listed as a single two-hour block under the title "The Occupation/Precipice". I'd lay good money on them splitting it into two episodes for syndication, though. --Peter Farago 05:37, 3 October 2006 (CDT)
::::Well, you could wait until the episodes have aired and edit it then. But I asked Mr. Thompson about just this, and he said "I have not seen the transition yet, but I believe it will be one episode. Which is why Episode 19 is the season 3 finale" in BW:OC. Good point about syndication though. Maybe the place where the break would be is cleary visible. --Serenity 05:43, 3 October 2006 (CDT)
:::::Having given it considerable thoght, I think the best reason not to merge them into a single article is that I don't want to be citing (The Occupation/Precipice) as a single unit for the rest of time. --Peter Farago 06:15, 3 October 2006 (CDT)
::::::One thing I think people aren't getting that that there ARE 20 episodes. "Occuprice" is episode 1, Exodus part 1 is episode 2, so on, totaling up to twenty. (I think) --BklynBruzer 13:13, 4 October 2006 (CDT)
::::::Whoops, scratch my previous comment that was here, I was wrong. For what it's worth, my DirecTV guide has it as a single two hour airing. With a repeat right after. Methinks that'll be good if there's a podcast for em.--BklynBruzer 13:13, 4 October 2006 (CDT)
:::::::There are twenty hours, and (if Occupation/Precipice is counted as one episode) nineteen episodes. --Peter Farago 17:34, 4 October 2006 (CDT)

Suggestion
Here's a thought: Let's follow SciFi's lead with the podcasts. If they put up podcasts for two four-act shows, we'll keep it as two episodes; if they put up a single podcast for an eight-act show, we'll merge them into a single Occupation/Precipice article. --Peter Farago 17:38, 4 October 2006 (CDT)
:Ya know, so far this is the best suggestion in this whole conversation because I somehow get the feeling that they at scifi are themselves not yet certain about what to call these 2 opening 5 act pieces, but by the time the show starts on Friday, I'm sure they will have it figured out so let's not do their job for them and try to guess what they will do. --Straycat0 16:08, 4 October 2006 (AST)
::I suggest we wait till they air, and see if there's an end between the two. For what it's worth, my DirecTV onscreen guide is showing one two hour block with a repeat right after it. That'll be nice for the podcasts, watch the episode, then right after watch it with commentary. --BklynBruzer 20:21, 4 October 2006 (CDT)
:RDM often will lead off each podcast with (outside the I'm RDM, etc.) "and this is episode X of season Y, 'Z'". That may provide some insight as well if he continues that practice. --Steelviper 06:53, 5 October 2006 (CDT)

Questions
*If Sharon Agathon is killed during her mission on New Caprica, will she be able to download into a new body?

*Where will Cally be able to run too? She was ordered to face exicution by the Colonial Government.

Analysis
Notes
*In an interview with the Seattle Times, Ron Moore has confirmed that the first episode of season three will not take place immediately after the previous season finale (like "Scattered" did), but skip ahead a few more months to when the Cylon occupation is in full swing, and an insurgency has already developed.

*According to an interview with Ron Moore from May 31st, Amanda Plummer will guest star in the season 3 premiere.

*According to series composer Bear McCreary's official website blog, the first two episodes of season 3 will premiere back-to-back as a two hour TV movie
**This was further confirmed in Ron Moore's blog on July 27th, 2006:
::'As it currently stands, we will be opening Season Three with a two-hour premiere of what were originally two stand-alone episodes, "Occupation" and "Precipice" ("Occuprice," as it were) then resume airing normal one hours with "Exodus Part One."'

*An early publicity photo for this episode shows what is ostensibly Caprica-Valerii being sworn into the Colonial Fleet by Admiral Adama, with Kat and Helo in attendance. This strongly suggests that Valerii has proven her worth and trust to Adama and Galactica--and that available hands are definitely few. It may also confuse viewers as to which Valerii is which, unless Caprica-Valerii chooses a different callsign than "Boomer."
**This is also interesting because of its implications. If Helo is present in his capacity as XO, Kat may be present as CAG. That would make a certain amount of sense; the majority of pilots, including Starbuck, were groundside when the Cylons jumped in, and with her talent and record it would be logical for Kat to rise to the top slot.
:The Cylons have occupied the human settlement of New Caprica, and it's been three months since Galactica, Pegasus, and a handful of ships escaped into deep space.
Summary
*The episode begins with a series of cut scenes. Light flashes over Saul Tigh's face. He is in a prison cell and has scratched notches into a calendar on the wall.
*A Cavil walks into Tigh's cell and taunts him as he attempts to hide the calendar that he has scratched in the wall.

<blockquote>This is the end of the "FirstLook" sneak peak video provided on the official website of Scifi.com.</blockquote>

Analysis
* Given the dialogue during the scene and the marks on Ellen Tigh's face, it appears that Cavil has a penchant for "rough sex," adding to the sacrifice being made by Ellen to free Saul Tigh.
* During the episode, Conoy mentions that Kara has succeeded in killing Conoy five times prior to this airing.

Notes
*According to David Eick at the BSG Comic-Con panel, "Occupation" takes place 4 months after the Cylon occupation began at the end of "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II".
:The Cylons have occupied the human settlement of New Caprica, and it's been three months since Galactica, Pegasus, and a handful of ships escaped into deep space. But the fight is not over. On New Caprica, a resistance has begun — and despite having only a handful of untested pilots at his command, Admiral Adama is committed to risking everything on a daring attack to rescue the people he left behind.

Summary
*The episode begins with a series of cut scenes. Light flashes over Saul Tigh's face. He is in a prison cell and has scratched notches into a calendar on the wall.
*A Cavil walks into Tigh's cell and taunts him as he attempts to hide the calendar that he has scratched in the wall.

<blockquote>This is the end of the "FirstLook" sneak peak video provided on the official website of Scifi.com.</blockquote>

Notes
*In an interview with the Seattle Times, Ron Moore has confirmed that the first episode of season three will not take place immediately after the previous season finale (like "Scattered" did), but skip ahead a few more months to when the Cylon occupation is in full swing, and an insurgency has already developed.

*According to an interview
*Is this episode further evidence that Jammer is another Cylon model? He was standing next to Duck when they assembled for the graduation, and it is unlikely that he would have survived the explosion at such close range.

Overview
:The Cylons have occupied the human settlement of New Caprica, and it's been three months since Galactica, Pegasus, and a handful of ships escaped into deep space. But the fight is not over. On New Caprica, a resistance has begun — and despite having only a handful of untested pilots at his command, Admiral Adama is committed to risking everything on a daring attack to rescue the people he left behind.

Summary
*The episode begins with a series of cut scenes. Light flashes over Saul Tigh's face. He is in a prison cell and has scratched notches into a calendar on the wall.
*A Cavil walks into Tigh's cell and taunts him as he attempts to hide the calendar that he has scratched in the wall.

<blockquote>This is the end of the "FirstLook" sneak peak video provided on the official website of Scifi.com.</blockquote>
Overview
:The Cylons have occupied the human settlement of New Caprica, and it's been three months since Galactica, Pegasus, and a handful of ships escaped into deep space. But the fight is not over. On New Caprica, a resistance has begun — and despite having only a handful of untested pilots at his command, Admiral Adama is committed to risking everything on a daring attack to rescue the people he left behind.

Summary
*The episode begins with a series of cut scenes. Light flashes over Saul Tigh's face. He is in a prison cell and has scratched notches into a calendar on the wall.
*A Cavil walks into Tigh's cell and taunts him as he attempts to hide the calendar that he has scratched in the wall.

<blockquote>This is the end of the "FirstLook" sneak peak video provided on the official website of Scifi.com.</blockquote>

::"As it currently stands, we will be opening Season Three with a two-hour premiere of what were originally two stand-alone episodes, "Occupation" and "Precipice" ("Occuprice," as it were) then resume airing normal one hours with "Exodus, Part I"."

*"Occupation" and "Precipice" are now one "super episode": "Occupation" is "Episode 1", and "Precipice" is "Episode 1.5", followed by "Exodus, Part I", which is considered to be "Episode 2", and so on for all subsequent episodes.

*According to David Eick at the BSG Comic-Con panel, "Occupation" takes place 4 months after the Cylon occupation began at the end of "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II".
The Many Deaths of Six
Just having some fun on the talk page here; but it's fun to think of just how many times and ways Six has died (after seeing the part that said "copies have been destroyed in several episodes).
Number Six has been killed by methods including:
*By broken glass from windows exploding inwards from the shockwave of a distant nuclear blast.
*Shot in the back by another humanoid Cylon, Caprica-Sharon.
*Pushed off of a ledge and impaled on the Arrow of Apollo by Starbuck.
*Brained over the head with a fire extinguisher by Starbuck.

To quote Third Rock From The Sun, "We just kept hitting it, and hitting it, but it just wouldn't die!". --Ricimer, 10 October, 2005

: Was Six killed on the Arrow, or was she impaled on debris on the floor where they landed? I'm pretty sure it was NOT the Arrow...worth looking again. We don't know that the "extinguished" Six was killed, but she was certainly knocked out. Spencerian 12:26, 11 October 2005 (EDT)

She was not killed by the arrow at all. If you go back and look at the season finale, you will see that Six had a marine style "Ka-Bar" knife sticking out of her torso. IIRC, starbuck actually has the arrow in her hand. --Shogunmoon 12:45, 4 November 2005 (EST)
If so, we should be careful in the name's use... Otherwise I would make a note of it in the "Notes" section, but wouldn't introduce the name into the main article...
