The Viper is designed to operate in both space and atmospheric conditions.

In space flight, the Viper is highly maneuverable, dangerously so in inexperienced hands. [[Navigation in the Re-imagined Series|Reaction control system]] (RCS) thrusters for rapid and flexible attitude control, a cluster of 3 main thrusters for high acceleration, and retractable reverse thrusters housed in both port and starboard cowlings for some degree of deceleration can subject the pilot to punishing [[w:g-force|g-forces]]. Its retractable landing struts can be magnetized to secure the Viper on metal decks and surfaces in zero gravity.

In atmospheric flight, Vipers consume more [[Tylium]] fuel than in the vacuum of space. Once in an atmosphere, the engines must run continuously to maintain sufficient airflow over the wing lifting surfaces. Depending on the composition of the atmosphere itself, this can place severe strain on the Viper's engines ([[You Can't Go Home Again]]). In addition to greater fuel consumption, the high wing load (i.e. small wing area relative to weight) may compromise the Viper's overall maneuverability. Because the smaller wing surfaces generate less lift, higher speeds are needed to stay aloft. The fighter's RCS thrusters might partially compensate for this.

* Doctor Zee provides a team of Colonial Warriors with some gadgets to assist their infiltration efforts. One of the gadgets is an [[wrist computron|invisibility cloak]] that can render the warriors and their vehicles unseen. The warriors will be able to use [[turbines]] to get around on the surface, which are also able to fly, as well as stun weapons to incapacitate Earth humans without killing them.
* It is also noted that, in the lighter gravity of Earth, the Colonials will have the ability to leap to great heights.
* Each team will be spread about Earth's world populations to begin their mission. Troy and Dillon are headed for the United States, specifically, the Los Angeles area. Dillon laments that they didn't get [[Kip|Kip's]] pick to visit the [[w:USSR|Union of Soviet Socialist Republics]] as it sounded more enticing from a carousing perspective.
* Descending to the Earth in their [[Viper (TOS)|Vipers]], the U.S. Air Force detects the strange aircraft. Troy and Dillon are intercepted by Air Force fighters. As the fighters fire on the Vipers, they pull away easily and make a hasty landing in a field near Los Angeles.
* Hiding their ships with the invisibility screens, they take to their turbines, and shortly thereafter have a run in with a biker gang, which they escape through use of their turbines flying capabilities.
* Changing into contemporary clothes, Troy and Dillon stop at a service station to make a call to the scientist they are to contact, Dr. [[Donald Mortinson]] at the [[Pacific Institute of Technology]].
* While attempting to use the phone, they run into [[Jamie Hamilton]], who's on her way to L.A. for a job interview with the [[UBC]] television network. Hamilton watches the two try to gain currency to use the pay phone when she catches them in the act.
* When she learns that the duo is on their way to see the controversial Dr. Mortinson, who has developed a new form of nuclear technology, Hamilton offers to give them a lift to the Pacific Institute of Technology.
*Doctor Mortinson questions himself with his aide on whether the angry mob is truly ready or willing to accept the advanced technology. When the mobs start to throw rocks, Mortinson leaves to get someone to clean the mess.
* Pushing past anti-nuclear protesters at the campus and stunning a guard, Troy and Dillon reach Dr. Mortinson's lab. Mortinson is not present. His aide is incredulous at their supposed ability to comprehend his formulas. The aide secretly instructs the security guards by phone to arrive and soon arrest the two intruders.
* Before being hauled away by security, Troy and Dillon leave a complex math equation on Dr. Mortinson's computer as a way of verifying they are visitors from an advanced culture.<ref>This addition to the script was likely inspired by a scene from the classic SF motion picture, ''[[w:The Day the Earth Stood Still|The Day the Earth Stood Still]]'', where an alien on Earth on a first-contact mission visits a scientist's office and leaves a highly-complex scientific formula as a calling card as well.</ref>
* Troy and Dillon are hauled off to jail.
* When Dr. Mortinson returns to his computer, astonished by what Troy and Dillon left there, he realizes that the only people capable of producing the modified formula he finds on the screen must be as important to mankind as "the coming of the [[w:Jesus|Messiah]]".
* Hamilton, with her career at first looking dim, is contacted by Dr. Mortinson, who asks her to help him find Troy and Dillon. Spurred on by a job offer from the network producer, [[Brooks]], Hamilton heads off to find Mortinson, who despises the media.
*During booking, [[Dobin]] cannot make fingerprint records for the Warriors as they have no fingerprints. Other people are interested in the two, who are returned to their cell.
* Using their invisibility devices, Troy and Dillon activate their invisibility shields, causing another in the cell, [[Moran]], to think he's losing his mind. As the cell is opened by Sergeant [[James (1980)|James]], the two make their escape.
* Meanwhile, back in the field where they first arrived, the two Vipers suddenly shimmer back into view. A young boy, [[Willy Griffin]] is playing in the field with his dog, [[Skipper]], when he stumbles upon the ships, which have run out of power to maintain their invisibility. He runs to inform his parents.

In the December 13, 1979 revision of the script for this episode, there are several noted differences:

The first twelve battlestars were laid down in the early days of the [[Cylon War]]. Each of these twelve battlestars represented one of the [[Twelve Colonies of Kobol]] ([[Miniseries]]).

The original battlestars were space-going leviathans of some 4,720ft (1,438.64m) in length, housing at least 4 squadrons of 20 [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] space superiority fighters apiece and nuclear warheads. A fully-armed battlestar is capable of a wide range of offensive actions, while her defensive armaments ensure she is fully capable of both protecting herself from attack and engaging an enemy at close quarters.

Following the end of the war, the original battlestars remained in service and many newer battlestars were built. At the time of the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]], the newer [[Mercury class battlestar|''Mercury'' class]] represented the top of the line. Ships such as these and the ''[[Valkyrie]]'' type battlestars have nearly completely replaced the original battlestars, making ''Galactica'' the last of this unnamed class still in its original condition. The flight pods are mounted on either side of the hull and contain a battlestar's [[Viper (RDM)|Vipers]] and [[Raptor|Raptors]]. During normal operations, they are extended away from the main hull. During [[FTL]] jumps, the pods are retracted against the hull, concealing their open ends and making launches and landings impossible. Each pod comprises two main decks for flight operations: the upper landing bay, which extends the full length of the pod, and the lower launch bays, which provide some 40 launch tubes per pod.

Landing approaches are made from the stern. The preferred approach is a slow run into the landing bay, prior to making a vertical landing on a defined landing area ([[Act of Contrition]]). However, in emergencies, [[Combat landing|combat landings]] can be made, in which a craft approaches and lands at high speed on its landing skids ([[Miniseries]]).

The [[hangar deck]] is used for maintenance, repair, refueling, rearming, and launch operations and runs the length of the flight pod.

Despite their massive size, battlestars are extremely maneuverable and can dock with space stations such as [[Ragnar Anchorage]]. Battlestars are not designed for atmospheric flight, although their hulls can manage a tenuous upper atmospheric storm like that surrounding the gas giant [[Ragnar]] ([[Miniseries]]) and can survive a jump and subsequent freefall into the atmosphere of a habitable planet ([[Exodus, Part II]]). A battlestar's [[FTL]] systems are capable of accurate jumps, able to place them in synchronous orbit above a relatively close planet and of placing them safely in the midst of an asteroid field ([[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]), a dense fleet of ships ([[Scattered]]), or a planetary atmosphere. However, they are grossly inferior to [[Cylon]] systems in terms of [[Red Line|safe range]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]).

===Endurance===
Battlestars are intended to operate for long periods without re-supplying. Their water purification capabilities alone are so efficient that, barring an emergency or unforeseen event, a battlestar can operate "for several years before replenishing" ([[Water]]). They also appear capable of undertaking large-scale repairs following battle damage ([[Miniseries]], "[[Water]]"). They have ammunition assembly capabilities in the armory ([[Epiphanies]]) and may have small general fabrication facilities ([[Litmus]]). Vegetable stores and canned goods are kept in [[Wikipedia:Titanium|titanium]] lockers ([[Final Cut]]).

The original battlestar vessels deliberately avoided the use of networked primary computer systems during the [[Cylon War]], as [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] forces were adept at infiltrating and subverting such systems ([[Miniseries]]).

On ''Galactica'', in the post-Cylon War era, these primary [[computers]] remained isolated by practice on order of its last pre-Holocaust commanding officer, [[William Adama]]. This no-networks practice saved ''Galactica'' from the fate of its sister battlestars in the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]] as ''Galactica's'' no-network order meant that the [[CNP]], installed in almost all [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet]] vessels at the time, could not be used aboard ''Galactica'' as the CNP was designed for use with a computer network.

In one dire instance in the early months of their exodus, ''Galactica'' networks its primary computers temporarily to aid in computation speeds for [[FTL|jump]] calculations needed to find the missing civilian Fleet ([[Scattered]]), but it is not without consequence. One or more computers are cracked during a Cylon attack with a Cylon [[Cylon computer virus|virus]], which proves resistant to removal and (weeks later) threatens the operation of the battlestar until the computers' hard drives are erased and restored from pre-Fall backup sets ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).

Dear CalulatinAvatar Im the creator and head Administrator of [http://galacticafanon.wikia.com/wiki/Battlestar_Galactica_Fanon_Wiki Battlestar Galactica Fanon Wiki] A new fan fiction based wiki on Wikia and I was hoping that either yourself or someelse on this wiki would care to join. In this new wiki you can create you own new characters, ships or stories all set in the Galactica universe. The main reason I had created this wiki was that I knew that many Galactica fans found the series finale to be somewhat disappointing and somewhat annoying (Ive read both the forums here and on SCI FI.com) and while many fans wanted to write their own version of Daybreak had little venues to do so. Also Im hoping for 2 other things 1. to create a Quorum of 12, a team of 12 Admins. to act as Galactica Fanons main staff and 2. that either yourself or someone else on this wiki would want Galactica Fanon to be a Sister site to this wiki.
