The quality of the AVIs I have suck, so I'm not sure. Also, is it just me or are the uniforms somewhat inspired by the Original Series? :Yeah it's a bit ambiguous. Bodies are carried away and one crewmember goes to one of the stretchers as if that person still lives. On the other hand, it looks like Gavin dies and Adama's reaction seems to reinforce that. Maybe it'll be cleared up the in the next episodes.

:The music was TOS-like too. It was alright, but I don't like the TOS Cylon Raiders in this context. They even have windows. It makes no sense whatsoever for a machine to control another machine like that. If the Cylons have the resources to build their own stuff like the basestars (which should be explained at some point btw), they can also build ships that fly themselves. I'm not even looking forward to see the TOS Centurions if they don't update their movement. On board ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'', [[Jaycie McGavin]] and [[William Adama]] are having sex in the [[duty locker]], during which McGavin asks if Adama left his boots out. Adama tells her that he ran into the Commander while he was taking off his boots, which leads into them mocking the commander with one of his apparently [[Nothing but the rain|well-known greetings]].

McGavin and Adama talk before joining a battle to attack an ice planet in the "ass end of nowhere", where a rumored [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] superweapon is allegedly being built. It is defended heavily by the Cylons: three [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Raider]] wings, ground forces, defensive batteries and nuclear weapons.

Another rumor they talk about is that peace negotiations are in progress and that the Cylons may unexpectedly surrender, which McGavin scoffs as unlikely. She runs off to report to a briefing for [[Raptor Squadron 2]], leaving Adama alone as the ship readies itself for possible nuclear attack.

During the battle, [[Galactica type battlestar|battlestar]] ''[[Columbia (RDM)|Columbia]]'' is pummeled from [[basestar (RDM)|basestar]] salvos and is subsequently destroyed. Adama then spots two Raiders entering the planet's atmosphere. Out for bloodlust, Adama engages the two, he shoots down one in the high altitudes. The '''Raider''' is the primary aerospace attack craft used by the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]].

The Raider is first encountered more than 40 years after the [[Cylon War]], when the Cylons launch their devastating [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|surprise attack]] on the [[Twelve Colonies]].

The Raider is initially thought to be wholly mechanical in design, with a high-level AI controlling it. However, following the recovery of a Raider forced down during a firefight and recovered by Lieutenant [[Kara Thrace]] ([[Act of Contrition]]), the new Raider is found to be, in fact, biomechanical in nature ([[You Can't Go Home Again]]), incorporating a number of large organs in its design, including a biomechanical brain.

The Cylon Raider's intelligence level is less than that of a [[humanoid Cylon]]; it is more like a trained animal ([[Six Degrees of Separation]]). Much like the humanoids, the biomechanical Raider pilot's consciousness can be transferred into new "bodies" if it is destroyed. (Whether this process requires a nearby [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]] or [[Resurrection Ship]] for the transfer is not known, although it is heavily implied in [[Scar]] that this is indeed the case.) While this death/rebirth process allows the Raider to "learn" from its mistakes and become a more efficient killing machine, the process can also cause Raiders to fight with deadly, almost-humanlike tactics ([[Scar]]).

Raider weapon configurations include:
* Conventional and/or nuclear missiles carried in internal wing bays ([[Miniseries]])
* Two [[Weapons in the Re-imagined Series#Viper and Cylon Raider|Kinetic Energy Weapon]]s mounted under the leading edge of the wings

During the Cylon attack, the new Raider could transmit commands to any Colonial vessel utilizing the Command Navigation Program ([[CNP]]). The CNP was compromised prior to the attack, and provides a backdoor that allowes the Cylons to shut down Colonial vessels with the CNP, rendering the ships defenseless ([[Miniseries]]).

As with their predecessors in the Cylon War, Raiders also use [[wireless]] transmissions directed at Colonial ships, especially battlestars, to attempt to crack, or infiltrate the ship's computer network. If the cracking is successful, a [[Cylon computer virus|virus]] can be transmitted, which can severely damage or disable many battlestar systems ([[Valley of Darkness]]).

The Raider is equipped with a small-scale [[FTL]] drive system ([[Miniseries]]). Following tests on the Raider captured by ''Galactica'', this FTL system is found to be far more efficient in jump calculations than Colonial FTL systems. The drive shows its accuracy when Lt. Thrace takes the Raider from a point somewhere near the vicinity of [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]] back to [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]] in a single jump ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]).

As with its nemesis, the [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]], the Raider is capable of atmospheric operations, which explains why it has retained an aerodynamic shape ([[You Can't Go Home Again]]).

The Raider is known as "sparrow" in Colonial pilot jargon ([[Maelstrom]]).

Following the flight from [[Battle of Carillon|the death trap at Carillon]], the succeeding [[Imperious Leader]] sends a basestar under [[Baltar (TOS)|Baltar]]'s command to seek out the Fleet. Baltar's basestar is able to follow the Fleet, yet stay outside of ''[[Galactica (TOS)|Galactica]]'''s scanning range ([[Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I]]), suggesting that basestar scanners have a longer range than their Colonial counterparts.

* This basestar class existed in the [[Battlestar Galactica (RDM)|Re-imagined Series]] continuity, if only in appearance, and likely with a different command and crew structure. A model of an Original Series basestar is displayed in ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'''s new [[Galactica Museum|museum]] in the [[Miniseries]]. However, because the new series does not use the same [[Weapons in the Re-imagined Series|weapons]] as the Original Series, it is not really the same ship.
