'''Earth''' is the believed destination of the [[Thirteenth Tribe (RDM)|Thirteenth Tribe]] of [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]], as attested in the [[Sacred Scrolls]]. It's existence was more myth and legend than reality to the modern world of the [[Twelve Colonies of Kobol]].

Earth, in the course of events, was actually not one but ''two'' planets. The first was a planet not only destroyed by a nuclear holocaust thousands of years ago, but was entirely populated by a type of [[Final Five|humanoid Cylon]]. The second earth, found by [[Kara Thrace]], is a lush, habitable world already filled with bands of primitive humanity. It is on the second Earth where the [[The Fleet (RDM)|the beleaguered inhabitants of the Fleet]] find their new permanent home, leaving their ships (and technology) all behind.

==A Cause for Hope==
Earth is first mentioned by Commander [[William Adama|Adama]] during a speech after the battlestar's funeral services after escaping from [[Ragnar Anchorage]]. Adama claims that Earth was a top military secret that can now be revealed (see [[Miniseries]]).

In a private conversation with new President [[Laura Roslin]] immediately afterward, Adama admits that he has not the slightest idea where Earth may be, if it exists. His true motivation was inspirational; he intended to bolster the morale of the population (especially his beleaguered crew) in the aftermath of the [[Cylon attack|near-annihilation]] of humanity.

==Tangible Faith==
While she is initially skeptical, rebuking Adama for his dishonesty, Laura Roslin's faith grows perceptibly throughout the first season. Her use of [[chamalla]] to treat her cancer causes vivid dreams and hallucinations. Roslin increasingly interprets these as prophetic visions, especially after the Fleet accidentally discovers the legendary homeworld [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]).

Eventually, a [[Arrow of Apollo|religious artifact]] is recovered which later aids in revealing the general location of Earth ([[Home, Part II]]).

In the activated [[Tomb of Athena]], the stars of the Twelve Colonies are represented in the twelve [[Wikipedia:Zodiac|Zodiacal]] constellations, as viewed from Earth, recognized by Roslin as the shapes of the original flags of the Twelve Colonies. The chamber itself was intended by its builders to be a stylized replica of the night sky of the Earth, from which all twelve constellations could be seen. This is corroborated by [[Kara Thrace]], who quotes [[Sacred Scrolls|scripture]], saying that Earth was the place where the people of the Thirteenth Tribe could look up into the sky and see their twelve brothers.<ref>Some viewers may question how information on Earth's location could be recorded in the Tomb before the Thirteenth Tribe left for Earth. Morerover, [[Lee Adama]] recognizes the [[Wikipedia:Lagoon Nebula|Lagoon Nebula]], also represented in the night sky of the mystery chamber. This astronomical object is known to Fleet personnel, since [[William Adama|Commander Adama]] remarks that this celestial body would take some time to reach.

==More Clues to Earth==
Over a year later, the Fleet discovers a derelict [[Basestar (RDM)|Cylon baseship]] near the [[Lion's Head Nebula]], a celestial marker revealed by [[Felix Gaeta]] to Admiral Adama and President Roslin ([[Torn]]). The information is derived from [[Gaius Baltar]]'s research on the path to Earth. The derelict basestar finds an [[Lion's Head beacon|ancient beacon]] left by the Thirteenth Tribe. While a Colonial boarding party finds the probe, it also learns that the [[Humanoid Cylon]]s aboard the basestar are dead or dying, suggesting a deadly pathogen was released by the beacon. In their haste to leave and for the safety of the Fleet, the beacon is abandoned on the basestar, where it is destroyed when the basestar self-destructs ([[A Measure of Salvation]]).

After the Fleet must gather needed foodstuffs from the [[algae planet]], believed previously uninhabited by humans, [[Galen Tyrol]] senses and finds the [[Temple of Five]], an ancient [[temple]] built by the Thirteenth Tribe, as told in the [[Sacred Scrolls]], apparently built during a stopover on this world. Believed to be hidden inside the Temple of Five is the [[Eye of Jupiter]], an artifact that may provide more clues to the location of Earth. However, a Cylon force arrives with the same intentions on the Eye, leading to a standoff between Adama and the [[basestar command]] ([[The Eye of Jupiter]]). The Eye is later revealed to be the algae planet's own star as it began to nova, taking the form of the circular starburst patterns throughout the Temple of Five. While the Colonials are not privy to the special holograph feature of the Temple that the Cylons witness in the early moments of the nova, the Colonials are later are able to discern the information of the new nova as a waypoint to the next marker, a nebula in the [[Ionian system]] ([[Rapture]]).

When the Fleet arrives at the nebula, it is intercepted by four basestars. Unable to escape due to a mysterious, crippling Fleet-wide power outage, ''Galactica'' is forced to prepare for attack and launches Vipers and Raptors. [[Lee Adama|Apollo]] breaks off from the attack to track an "Unknown" contact on [[DRADIS]]. The contact is Captain [[Kara Thrace|Kara "Starbuck" Thrace]], miraculously [[Maelstrom|returned from the dead]] with news that she has been to Earth, knows its location and how to take the Fleet there.

The episode "[[Crossroads, Part II]]" concludes with a sweeping zoom from the Fleet, the Cylons, the Ionian nebula and to an arm of the [[W:Milky Way|Milky Way]] and to a zoom in to Earth itself, confirming that Earth is an actual location (from the perspective of the viewers), showing Earth's North American continent.<ref>The depiction of Earth includes a geographically accurate landmark: the Balize lobe of the [[w:Mississippi River Delta|Mississippi river delta]], a feature formed between the 16th and 20th Centuries of the real-world Earth. However, no further conclusions should be inferred as the series creators deliberately avoided confirming whether ''Battlestar Galactica'' occurs in the real-world Earth's past, present, or future.</ref>

According to the [[Hybrid]], the [[Final Five]] are from the "home of the 13th," generally interpreted as Earth ([[Faith]]). This matches statements made in the "[[The Eye of Jupiter]]" claiming that the Temple of Five was built by people from the thirteenth tribe.

===Starbuck's Visit===

Starbuck claims she visited Earth in her Viper, a trip lasting 6 hours according to her Viper's clock but months having passed in the Fleet. She is unaware of how she got to and from Earth in a Viper with no FTL capability. She describes Earth as having blue seas and white clouds, and took a variety of photos from her Viper. She also describes a "yellow moon and star" matching the descriptions by Pythia. Her photos have star patterns matching the zodiacs seen in the [[Tomb of Athena]]. On the return trip, she describes seeing a ringed gas giant planet, a "flashing triple star" and a comet. This turns out to be a vision of a burning basestar (the comet) around a gas giant at the site of a [[Cylon Civil War]] battle ([[Faith]]).

After the Fleet leaves the Ionian Nebula, Thrace feels pain with each jump and is overcome by a strong sense that the Fleet is going the wrong way ([[He That Believeth In Me]]). She confronts President Roslin, the only person she reckons can persuade the Admiral to change course, with a pistol in his quarters, which gets her thrown in the [[brig]]. She is later released to take command of the ''[[Demetrius]]'' on a mission to find Earth ([[Six of One]]).

== Arrival and Ruins ==

After being informed by [[Samuel Anders|Anders]] and [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]] that something about [[Starbuck's Viper|her Viper]] is different, Starbuck climbs in the cockpit and powers up the electronics, detecting what appears to be a Colonial emergency locator signal, which only the Viper can receive. After determining that it is likely a bearing to Earth, the Fleet plots a jump and arrives in the planet's orbit, leading to ecstatic jubilation throughout the Fleet.

However, the happiness is short-lived when a combined human-Cylon team lands on the planet and arrives at a shore, overlooking a destroyed city. Moreover, Geiger counters detect radioactivity, indicating the city — and possibly the whole planet — suffered a nuclear catastrophe ([[Revelations]]).

The ruins are "thousands of years old." ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Top 10 Things You Need to Know]]).

Further scans on the planet reveal that the planet suffered a nuclear holocaust of some kind about 2,000 years before. There was still low-level radiation in the ground and water from the disaster and it is unsafe for living on even after so long. Further investigation reveals the truth about the inhabitants of the planet: they weren't human, they were Cylon, all of them. Among them lived the Final Five who have no memory of this and only realized this as they got small flashes (mostly of their deaths) while among the ruins. Ultimately the decision is made to abandon Earth as it is apparently uninhabitable and look for a new planet that supports life. Also on the surface is found the remains of a crashed Viper and apparently the dead body of Kara Thrace which is as of yet unexplained. ([[Sometimes a Great Notion]]) It is implied by Anders in ([[No Exit]]) that the Centurions on Earth did kill their masters. When he describes when the Final Five finally reached the colonies, Anders says, "It happened again!"

==A New Earth==

During a cataclysmic battle in which the Cylon [[The Colony|Colony]] is destroyed, Kara Thrace jumps ''Galactica'' into the vicinity of a habitable planet, already populated by a rich diversity of wildlife and by primitive humans that evolved independently from those on Kobol. The Fleet is given coordinates to this planet by a Raptor from ''Galactica'' at the scheduled rendezvous, and jumps into the system to settle the planet.

The people of the Fleet decide to abandon their technology in an attempt to avoid repeating the cycle of destruction and rebirth, and the planet is named after the original Earth. ''Galactica'' and the rest of her Fleet are destroyed by being flown into the system's Sun by [[Samuel Anders]]. The [[Two]]s, [[Six]]es and [[Eight]]s decide to live on the new Earth as well and give their [[Rebel basestar|basestar]] to their [[Cylon Centurions|Centurions]] so that they, too, can have freedom and find their own destiny.

Over 150,000 years later, Earth is home to a technically advanced civilization. (They are all, of course, of native human, Colonial human, and humanoid Cylon descent, but knowledge of this extraterrestrial seeding does not exist). Its people on the verge of major breakthroughs in robotics again.

The fossilized remains of [[Hera Agathon]] have been recovered from the land of Tanzania by archaeologists from the Smithsonian Institute in the city of Washington, who have identified her as the "Mitochondrial Eve", the most recent common ancestor of all living humans in the direct maternal line ([[Daybreak, Part II]]).

The '''''Demetrius''''' is a sewage processing ship in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. When [[Kendra Shaw]] tries to tune in to a [[Talk Wireless]] interview with Gaius Baltar, she picks up a transmission from the ''[[Adriatic]]'' to the ''Demetrius'' concerning cargo wasting in ''Adriatics'''s holds ([[Razor]]).

After [[Kara Thrace]]'s return, a torn [[William Adama]] sends Thrace and a hand-picked crew in the ''Demetrius'' on a mission to find [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]], despite [[Laura Roslin]]'s warnings that Thrace is not to be trusted ([[Six of One]]). The Colonial public are told that they are on a survey mission to find food sources, though its disappearance is a matter of considerable media attention ([[The Ties That Bind]]). The ''Demetrius'' is accompanied by a detachment of five Vipers and a Raptor that are magnetically secured to the ship — four Vipers on the dorsal platform, and a Viper and a Raptor on the ventral one. At least one docking hatch exists on the port side.

After two months, the ''Demetrius'' is scheduled to rendezvous with the Fleet or be presumed destroyed. After encountering a [[Heavy Raider]] with a copy of [[Leoben Conoy (New Caprica copy)|Leoben Conoy]] aboard, however, Thrace decides to abandon the plan. Conoy offers an alliance between the humans and his faction in the [[Cylon civil war]], and Thrace wants to accompany him to his [[Basestar (RDM)|baseship]] in order to learn what the Cylons know about Earth, but her crew refuses to carry out the order ([[The Road Less Traveled]]).

Anders shoots [[Felix Gaeta]] in the leg over this and Thrace regains some control over her crew. She decides that it is too dangerous to take the entire ship and risk the lives of everyone on board, so she instead takes the Raptor with Anders, Barolay and Athena as her crew. Agathon remains in charge and decides to wait for her for just over 15 hours: the amount of time they can wait and still make the rendezvous with ''Galactica''. Eventually time runs out and though Agathon waits a minute longer it seems as if Thrace won't return. Just as the ship is about to jump, the Cylon rebels' basestar jumps in and he is contacted by Athena. The ''Demetrius'' and the basestar then prepare to jump to ''Galactica'' together ([[Faith]]).

However, due to their jump drives not being synchronized properly, the basestar arrives at the Fleet alone, causing a panic. With the [[wireless]] also damaged, the Fleet believes itself under attack and ''Galactica'' responds accordingly. The situation is defused when the ''Demetrius'' also returns after spooling up her FTL drives again ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]).

The ''Demetrius'' is amongst the ships that successfully reach [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] ([[Revelations]]).

== Interior design ==

The main quarters area of the ship are small and cramped like that of a submarine. Even the captain's cabin is small and sparse. A common area exists for the crew to assemble and eat their meals.

The ship's bridge is laid out like a small [[CIC]] with a table in the center, surrounded by various screens and a tactical plot.

It seems like the name for this episode "Six of One" is a reference to the Star Trek: Voyager character '''Seven of Nine''' (another TV show that RMD had a hand in). On a personal note: I think that the name "Six of One" is about how Caprica Six will find true individuality, outside of the Cylon "Collective", or at least acceptance among the Galactica crew (like Athena). FWIW, I think the problem w/ lack of beeps in the podcasts is that the m4a's have (silent) chapter markers. In iTunes there's a command to skip ahead or back a chapter (command-shift-right or left arrow on a Mac), and I understand the same is true on an iPod. It really helps me (psychologically) when I know other people are working on it too, though. While re-watching Act of Contrition I noticed a few more Galactica squadrons shown on the walls in the pilots' ready room. In the beginning of the ep when Adama enters, he touches the "Lest We Forget" picture then passes a squadron crest labeled "Vampires". A minute or two later, when we see Sgt. Hadrian standing against the wall, we can clearly see 7th Squadron "Battleaxe" and 4th squadron "Demons" on the wall behind her. They have practiced their shunning of conventional medical care for over 1,000 years.
*The stocks are low in any case, and Adama orders immediate inoculations of key crew and medication used only when someone shows definitive signs of the disease.
*Helo watches as some of Sagittarons use a curative root extract in an attempt to stave off the illness.
*On ''[[Colonial One]]'', President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] explains how [[Gaius Baltar]]'s trial will go with her vice president, [[Tom Zarek]].
*Zarek warns, visibly agitated, that a trial like this would be a "hurricane" that would cause pandemonium in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. Roslin is left visibly worried as she realizes that Zarek was genuinely frightened of the possibility of trial.
*Helo continues to take complaints, many from other Colonials who want to be moved away from the Sagittarons. King arrives to not only tell Helo of her son's death, but that she made a mistake in trusting Dr. Robert. Helo believes that she waited too long, but she notes that her son was only sick for 12 hours, well within the 48 hour cure window, making Helo suspicious.

*Dr. Robert tells of other deaths as Helo questions him about the King son's death. Robert deflects comments while giving Helo his inoculation, and notes commenting favorably to him to Col. Tigh.
*[[Margaret Edmondson]], [[Galen Tyrol]], [[Felix Gaeta]], [[Lee Adama]], [[Anastasia Dualla]], [[Kara Thrace]] and many others are at [[Joe's bar]] taking a break. Some are playing the [[Pyramid (RDM)|Pyramid]] arcade game. When [[Connor]] calls Edmondson by the name of "Marge," the [[Raptor]] pilot tells him that her shot accuracy is improved when she imagines the pyramid target as his face when throwing.
*Tyrol becomes drunk and begins to tell how the Sagittarons did not help fight on [[New Caprica]]. He personally believes that those colonists do not deserve any of the medication. Major Adama orders him to stop commenting once it becomes clear that Dualla, a Sagittaron herself, was becoming uncomfortable.
*Dualla agrees with some of Tyrol's drunken commentary in regards to her fellow colonists' stubborness, but notes her specific dislike of Dr. [[Cottle]].
*Sharon Agathon is visiting the incarcerated [[Caprica-Six]], discussing Baltar. Six's [[Cylon-Related Hallucinations|virtual Baltar]] appears to counter Agathon's thoughts on helping the Colonials.
*Six talks with her virtual Baltar, who tells her that the "trick" of behaving like a human is to think only of yourself.
*As Six kisses the virtual Baltar, President Roslin and [[Tory Foster]] are listening and watching Six nearby by hidden surveillance, and question who or what she is speaking to.
*A riot occurs in the camp, and Helo and the marines scramble to save Dr. Robert, who is at the center of the attack. Many Sagittarons accuse him of murder.
*Robert admits to administering the rationed drug without patient consent, particularly to one of the Sagittaron's noted fundamental members. The doctor becomes irritated at Helo's probing questions.
*Helo reports to Admiral Adama of Robert's behavior, with Cottle present. Neither man believes Helo's report is credible, and Adama dismisses him, telling him that he has more pressing matters than dealing with what he believes are unfounded accusations.
*Tigh catches up with Helo and tells him that accusing Robert is doing little to help Helo's overall credibility with the Fleet command. When Tigh insults Helo's wife, the captain punches him.
*Tigh takes the blow without arresting Helo, but warns that further accusations will further diminish his reputation in the Fleet.

===Act 3===
*Sharon Agathon tells her husband that their daughter is sick, having been pulled off [[CAP]] to help her child.
*Despite Helo's worries about Robert, Hera is given the drug and sedatives.
*Helo returns a bracelet from Willie King's body to Mrs. King. Before she leaves, he asks why she let her son be treated if she was previously warned. She explained that she did so because she didn't believe that anyone could have so much hatred inside them as to kill a patient. She leaves, refusing to discuss further.
*In their quarters, the Agathons argue, Helo questions whether he is getting damning treatment for being the husband of a [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]], and his other actions.
*Helo visits [[sickbay]], but finds it empty. He searches the medical records of patients from New Caprica and finds a shocking correlation.
*Cottle enters and tries to order Helo out of the office, threatening arrest. He shows that, unlike other colonists, the mortality rate of Sagittarons is over 90%. When asked to perform an autopsy on Willie King, Cottle tells Helo he's already done so, and Helo leaves, defeated and angry.
*Dualla, with her dislike of Cottle on record, visits Dr. Robert, asking for Bittamucin. She shows the first signs of Mellorak infection.
*On the night phase on the ship, King sneaks away from the refugee camp to Helo's quarters to warn him that Dualla had sought Dr. Robert's help after she began to show symptoms, also noting two other Sagittaron deaths. Helo realizes that, if his instincts are right, Dualla is in serious trouble. Marines appear to escort King away as Help quickly dresses and heads to the camp, against his wife's warnings and anger about having to fight for respect every day aboard ''Galactica''.
*Out of uniform and yelling for people to move out of the way, Helo storms through the encampment, frantically searching for and finding Dualla, lying a cot, motionless and unconscious, and desperately checks her vital signs.

===Act 4===
*Helo couldn't find immediate life signs and fears he's too late until Dualla stirs. She is alive, but very lethargic from medication that Robert administered.
*Helo attempts to move her to help from Dr. Cottle when Dr. Robert appears and stops him from leaving, calling for security to assist him. Dualla, in her delirium, shouts not to be treated by Cottle. Marines hear only part of the conversation and order Helo to stand down.
*A security detail separates Dualla from Helo, and sidearms are pulled as Robert orders the marines to arrest Helo.
*Colonel Tigh and Dr. Cottle arrives with additional marines, but instead of taking sides with Robert, Tigh berates Robert.
*Cottle explains to Helo that he didn't actually perform the toxicology test on King's son before finding Helo in his office. The autopsy revealed high levels of a toxic bisphosphnate, but no traces of the drug used to treat the disease. Cottle notes similar results in several other patients.
*Robert explains that his actions were a form of mercy-killing to save precious resources. Cottle questions his "do no harm" oath as Robert reminds Tigh of a time where they spoke in a derogative manner about Sagittarons.
*Tigh orders Helo to arrest Robert.
*Later, Admiral Adama apologizes to Helo for his actions in trying to show Robert's actions as well as other morally questionable issues in recent days. Helo returns Adama's apology with a perfect salute, finally feeling vindicated and respected.
*Agathon returns to his family, his daughter in her arms, and gives his wife a kiss.

===Bonus Scene===

*A bonus scene shows Helo in Adama's office, apparently at the time of Adama's apology. In this cut scene, Helo confesses to the sabotage of [[A Measure of Salvation|an aborted Cylon offensive]] to destroy the Cylons through biological weaponry. Adama asks Helo if he thinks this was the right time to bring this matter to his attention.
*This scene meshes with Adama's comment about the lack of a "voice in the wilderness" when Helo has questioned Fleet decisions on the Cylon genocide issue, the Sagittarons, and his unborn daughter's own fate [[Epiphanies|''in utero'' months before]].

* Why did [[Hera Agathon|Hera]] need the medication for a curable disease, while her blood was used to cure breast cancer for President Roslin?

* When did the hatred and bitterness towards the [[Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Sagittaron|Sagittarons]] begin in Colonial history?

* How different are the Sagittarons and [[Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Gemenon|Gemenese]] in regard to their religious beliefs? What traditions and ceremonies do the Sagittarons still practice that the rest of the Colonies have abandoned?

* Who submitted Hera to Dr. Robert's care? [[Sharon Agathon|Athena]] was away at CAP and Helo wasn't informed of Hera's well-being.

* What is the condition of Starbuck's and Anders's marriage? Why is he not seen with Starbuck in Joe's bar? Is he still living away from Galactica?

* Where is Tom Zarek in this matter? Is he unaware of the plight of the Sagittarons on Galactica or under Doctor Robert's care?

== Analysis ==
* This is the first major episode that features Saggitarons in a more in-depth manner. We learn more about Tom Zarek and Anastasia Dualla's relation to their colony of origin, originally established in "[[Bastille Day]]".

* The Sagittarons' belief system appears to be modeled on various modern day religious sects that oppose the use of medical technology and/or are pacifist in their political views. Religious sects, such as the Jehovah Witnesses and Christian Scientists in the past have taken such views and had been highly criticized and persecuted.

* Mrs. King name might be derived from Martin Luther King Jr. as Mrs. King is portrayed as an individual who wants justice for the prejudice that she and her son received. It is her initial step of approaching Helo that causes the murders of her people to eventually cease.

* Similar to Baltar's internal-Six, Caprica-Six's internal Baltar appears at a moment of self-doubt and fear. Interestingly, this version of internal-Baltar seems opposed to Caprica-Six siding with the humans, while back in "[[Downloaded]]", he told her that he loved her so deeply once she made the decision to reach out to humanity.

* The Saggitarons appear to be the last human colony that still maintains most of its original roots from the founding of the colonies. According to Dr. Cottle and Colonel Tigh, medical treatment has been rejected by the Saggitarons for over 3000 years, the subject of which they had referred to as a curse. The result being that they still practice rituals and beliefs that are at least over 1000 years old. This may be the date when the other colonies began to let go of their old religious convictions and origins.

* Though shown briefly, when the pilots (Apollo, Starbuck, and [[Racetrack]]) are walking past Helo in the corridor, it should be noted that Racetrack momentarily flirts with Helo when she holds onto his arm with Athena present. This hails back to an [http://podcasts.lvrocks.com/details.aspx?castid=5 interview] with Leah Cairns who stated that she and Tahmoh Penikett play their scenes together as though there is a sexual attraction between the two characters, while Athena remains unaware.

* Adama displays one of his character traits when he apologizes to Helo for not believing him about Dr. Robert. This is reminiscent of the moment when Adama offered Roslin his forgiveness when she took a part of the Fleet in search of the Arrow of Apollo ([[Home, Part II]]). Instead of forgiveness, Adama offers Helo his apology and states, as he did with Roslin, that it doesn't matter whether Helo asked or needs it, Helo still has it.

* In the real world, Robert's poisons, known as bisphosphantes, are a family of drugs used to treat certain bone cancers and [[w:osteoporesis|osteoporesis]] in some women. The use of the drug by real world definition correlates with Cottle's notation of acute cellular disruption, which could happen with such drugs.

* This is the first time since "[[Collaborators]]" that Gaeta is seen in a relaxed setting. The episode indicates that he has finally been welcomed back amongst the crew and able to join them in their Pyramid game. In addition, it appears that his [[Taking a Break From All Your Worries|actions towards Baltar]] did not lead to any serious repercussions.

== Notes ==
* The title doesn't literally refer to a king, but to a female character named [[King]], and is referred to in this episode's dialogue; Colonel Tigh asks who is lodging all the complaints against Dr. Robert, Helo replies "the woman, [[King]]".

* [[Bruce Davison]]'s character [[Michael Robert|Dr. Robert]] may be a reference to a song by [[w:The Beatles|The Beatles]] entitled "[[w:Dr. Robert|Dr. Robert]]". The song is about a doctor who prescribes illicit drugs. The [[A Day in the Life|next episode]] also contains a Beatles reference in its title.

*Dualla is noted as a Sagittaron. This was previously established in "[[33]]" and "[[Bastille Day]]".

*Tom Zarek was granted the Vice Presidency, despite his actions in "[[Collaborators]]".

*[[Racetrack]]'s given name, established in "[[Final Cut]]", is used in dialogue for the first time. [[Charlie Connor|Connor]] calls her "Marge", which seems to irritate her.

*Information from the podast:
** The Sagittaron-focused storyline, was originally intended to play a larger role in the upcoming Baltar trial. However, in post-production, it was decided that the trial needed to go into an entirely different direction, thus cutting out most of the Sagittaron build up in other episodes.
** Tom Zarek's fear that is noted by Roslin was originally based on Zarek's fear that like Gaeta, Baltar would attempt to implicate him in an incident with the Sagittarons on New Caprica. There is a deleted scene in which Zarek talks with Baltar and tries to figure out what Baltar plans to say about the event.
** RDM acknowledged that the explicit racism expressed by Tigh and Tyrol appeared very forced as it was never alluded to before. It was necessary at the time because of the original role that the Sagittarons were suppose to factor into Baltar's trial. However, once the decision was made to not focus on an event that the audience has not seen firsthand, the scenes now stand alone.
** The broader theme of the episode was suppose to portray Helo as a man who desired to prove his worth again to the leadership. The guilt and struggle he felt of [[A Measure of Salvation|sabotaging the biological weapon]] is the main factor that causes him to appear as the boy who cries "wolf" to Adama and Tigh. The deleted scene from the episode ran along those lines and explicitly displays Helo's guilt for having disobeyed his orders.
** The re-introduction of Caprica-Six' internal Baltar was an explicit order from RDM to the writing staff after initial reluctance. This accomplished at least two purposes. First, it established that Caprica-Six was never freed from these visions of her internal Baltar, and that she still has to deal with her visions. Secondly, in the grander theme of the show, the internal Baltar and Six will play major roles in the unfolding of the series.

'''Richard Adar''' was the last president of the [[Twelve Colonies]] before the [[Cylon attack]] in the [[Battlestar Galactica (RDM)|re-imagined]] [[Miniseries]]. He likely died, along with the [[Quorum of Twelve]], and his Cabinet—in total, 42 officials in line of succession, during [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|the attack]] which precipitated the near extinction of the human race.

Adar was serving his second term as president, and had previously served as a mayor ([[Miniseries]]). President Adar is succeeded by the 43rd official in line of succession, the Secretary of Education, [[Laura Roslin]], who was sworn in during the immediate aftermath of the attack aboard her government transport, a passenger liner designated ''[[Colonial Heavy 798]]''. She was appointed as President by way of the automated [[Case Orange]] [[government]] continuity mechanism via [[wireless]].

Prior to this, Adar had faced some political strife for military actions, the details of which are still unclear, which he himself apparently regretted. He reportedly wrote down the names of all the casualties of this act, leaving it in his desk as a reminder of his fallibility. President Roslin emulated her predecessor in this regard by writing the name of the ship ''[[Olympic Carrier]]'' down and leaving it in her own desk aboard ''[[Colonial One]]'' as a reminder of her own fallibility ("[[Water]]").

Another of his actions in office was to offer a full pardon to [[Tom Zarek]] in exchange for the latter's renunciation of violence; Zarek turned down the offer ("[[Bastille Day]]").

Despite being a married man,{{ref|mag1}} during the last days of his administration he was having an illicit romantic affair with his education secretary Laura Roslin.

Adar seemed to possess rather aggressive tendencies as President, as he was willing to use military action to resolve a drawn-out teacher strike (when the teachers started becoming violent). He didn't have a favourable opinion of Roslin's diplomatic solution to the problem and ultimately asked for her resignation because of it. He presumably died with a political and personal gulf still left between them ("[[Epiphanies]]").

He was also an influential friend to [[Gaius Baltar]] ([[Miniseries]]).
