There are a few pages that deal with requested stuff, such as here http://www.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Battlestar_Wiki:Requested_Images - also have a look at the 'special pages' link on the left hand side. I do mainly HDTV screencaps, but theres bound to be someone needing icons and other graphical stuff needed doing. As for the Season 3 caps - well, whats the resolution and quality like? Put bluntly: there's no good explanation of what wiki namespace is, and how the Battlestar Wiki's namespace is set up. The closest
you come to that is a link to the list of categories and the search page. And to add insult to injury: on the search page, "Battlestar Wiki and other wikis running MediaWiki." is a malformed link. It currently attempts to edit the page (or perhaps the category?) instead of taking you there. To add to that, clicking "Help" gets you ''Wikipedia's'' help files, not ones relevant to here. That's confusing, especially since this site has its own policies for vandalism, formatting, mark up, and new article creation. Clicking "Help" under navigation should get you the files for ''this'' site, not someone else's. Especially since the relevant pages do exist, they're just not linked. It's that lack of links or any sort of table of contents for the working areas of the site that makes it terribly confusing for someone who doesn't already know where everything is kept.

Other problems: "Wikipedia Tutorial" doesn't link to the article you wanted (hint: "Wikipedia:Tutorial" is probably what you wanted).
"Wikipedia FAQ" also doesn't link to the article you wanted.

And again, shunting a NEW user off to another site probably isn't the best idea in the world, at least for the editing tutorial. Wiki markup language is pretty weird to start with, throw in a total change of namespace without really warning them and you're likely to get WTF? syndrome. I edit html by hand and got caught by that the first time.

I know that I'd spend a lot less time going in circles if there was a clickable navigation link that had some sort of table of contents, whether it was under Community or Projects (or even Toolbox). But as it is, I haven't found anyplace that I can just click that would give me a portal to Policies, Tutorials, FAQs, Help files, etc. It doesn't exist. So this is a file that has everything on one layer, nothing grouped. Those are the two things that apparently screw up file conversions. It still doesn't render correctly. However, as before if you click on the direct link below the image, you'll see it came through correctly. The internal SVG renderer is what's choking. And it appears to not be correctly dealing with a transparent file, either, since this one has no background behind it. Oops. Looks like PNG format it will be. There seem to be two collar variations of the BDU's in Home pt. II, the normal collar like in any dress shirt worn by Apollo, and the Mandarin collar uniform worn by Adama. The Mandarin is the stand up collar that in the new generation uniforms is for comfort under body armor. You can see the difference in the screenshots for home on the reference link in the main article. The big two pics are the one of Apollo with the shouldered rifle and any of the Adama pics were he has the pepperbox aimed at Boomer's head.

If you are talking about the "Digital Urban Cammo" "BDU', which is actually known as a MARPAT...its not a collar variation, its the same collar. it can be worn like a madarin collar, or open like a standard butterfly collar.

A) Parade Dress - Normal Bridge uniform with a "leather like" sash with medals earned.

B) Bridge Officer - as above but without sash, with or without pilot wings, pending Viper Pilot Training.

C) Khaki - a universal standard, mainly adopted by colonial non-coms, a black armband if Military Police with MP shown.

D) Deck Crew - an orange jumpsuit with a black "hold-all" waist coat.

: A) These are known as Dress Greys and fullfill the same role as the Full Dress Blues in the USN. 

: B) These are Blue with a different cut than the Greys. Except for Hoshi, all "Junior Officers" (Major and Below) wear the Diamond with the downturned wings and Colonel and up wear the larger spread wings. These are like the USN Service Dress Blue in that they can be worn on watch and are still formal enough for some ceremonies (like in Pegasus). 

: C) Mainly seen on Marines and a few random bridge and hallway extras. The OD uniform seems to be the standard uniform for the fleet and is like the Working Khaki in the USN. These can be worn be officers and non-coms alike and seem to be the most formal uniform available for the non-coms. For the officers, it's like an undress uniform. 

: D) There are also yellow uniforms of this type. Jammer wears one. 

: E) When have we seen DCUs?, all there have been is Black BDUs and Urban MARPAT copies.

Back to the original discussion, Point C), if you look at Talos's images Khaki OD dress, this is taken form the pilot episode as Tigh walks away from the CIC. To help everyone out a little, this is time index 8 mins 2 seconds. If you look at the right arm of the non-com, you will see a black armband, with 2 letters in yellow. If I can get a better/clearer shot of this, I would wager the armband reads "MP". Now tell me I don't know my millitary structures! Could anyone please help varify this (Pictorial)fact?

A point I forgot to make was that the Dress Uniform is actuall an overcoat of sorts; the Duty Uniform (below) just tucks into the belt.

:A key point you didn't notice is that this is not a "Bridge Officer" uniform; it is a uniform for all Colonial Fleet officers: Apollo, Starbuck, and Boomer have been seen wearing them, as noted in that list there which denotes the differences in this uniform for different ranks. LSO Kelly also wears one. And as said above, it's really not like the dress uniform. As for the differences in those little Wing badges they have, I would greatly appreciate if someone could find the little differences between them; however it is definately not "pending Viper Pilot Training", as I do believe that even Raptor pilots or Gaeta have them.

As I have stated on Point E), I conceeded it wasn't "Desert" combats, but "Urban" style. Talos quite rightly pointed that mistake out, and I have made sufficiant note of this fact, to correct at a later date in my own files. Once again, point conceeded, no problems here.

Point C) is a tricky one, but I have not seen an episode other than "Litmus"where it was used. Yes, I AGREE more research is needed on this point, maybe pool resourses to define is proper use (I'm offering an "Olive Branch" here, not many get handed out from me), but once again, no problems.

A and B are too close together to seperate, but both uniforms do have similarities with each other.

== Latest Uniform Quibble (Marines) ==

It would appear that TPTB's (or costume dept's) use of the "digiprint"/MARPAT camo BDU's in Home for the featured cast was a one-time occurance, or, at least, an employment ''that is not typical of Marine uniforms''. Up until the Lay Down Your Burdens episodes, we had only seen combat Marines in their black BDU's. Here they were headed back to Caprica to recover as many survivors as possible, and what BDU's do they end up using? OD/green. The vests remained black, but each Marine on the recovery team was suited in OD/green. If the digiprint-camo BDU '''''was''''' part of the Marines' uniform rotation, then it goes without saying that it should have been in this event.

Now, that could be from several reasons that either exist inside of, or outside of, the storyline. The reason I'm provocating is that A) the digiprint/MARPAT-camo was indeed a one-time use, spurred by a "Hey! This will look cool!" by a production source, and it wasn't intended to be, nor was it originally, a part of the "series bible", B) The production staff realized they'd be tattooed on the forums for using black (and I'm sure that it would go against the training/knowledge of any military-types on the staff) uniforms to depict a planetside operation, C) The staff couldn't afford, nor justify, purchasing more digiprint/MARPAT BDU's, and "old" camo BDU's wouldn't look "unique" enough for this storyline, and D) They used ''what they had on hand'' (OD/green BDU's) ''knowing that it's an exceptionally minor detail that shouldn't affect the story.''

If my post has a twinge of hostility in it, it's in response to certain folks' repeated (perhaps they've let up recently) projections of real-life structure, regulations, etc. into this topic. :I think the Digital BDUs aren't for the Marines, they've been consistently shown wearing solid color BDUs. My thinking is that the Digital Uniforms are a Fleet-only uniform. The colors are actually similar to the new Digital work uniforms the US Navy is experimenting with. They wouldn't be the best uniform for a mission in a woodland enviroment, is ODs are more appropriate. Here's an unknown uniform I saw while watching Act of Contrition. It's the same as the Dress Greys except the color of the coat is more black and less blue, the sash is blue, and there's an insignia shaped like a eagle (that's what it looks like to me) near where the sash and belt meet. Maybe it's one of the following:
*A Marine Dress Uniform, officer or enlisted
*A specific Honor Guard uniform

==The Ship Patches==
I'm going to quibble with both the description of the ship patches (because I think whoever wrote that section didn't understand how they're constructed), how many different patch variants there, and what they look like.
"Galactica's crew patch is colored gold, with "Battlestar Galactica BSG 75" written around the seal. Pegasus' crew patch is colored white, with "Battlestar Pegasus BSG 62" written around the seal. For both officers and enlisted crew, rank insignia is affixed to both sides of the collar."
No. The basic patch for Galactica is a gold/green ground. That's not stitching, it's a solid fabric with a high sheen. The only stitching is the outlining and lettering. That varies depending on what uniform the patch goes on. We've been looking closely at this at Dewback Wing because we're trying to reproduce the patches. The stitching appears in many cases to match the color of the shoulderpad of the uniform tunic. So the duty blues patch actually has very, very dark blue stitching, the duty greens patch has very dark green stitching. The flight suit patch appears to be made from the same material as the the flight suits with dark brown stitching. The deck crews appear to wear patches that are either gold or a darker bronze with dark brown or black stitching (I can't tell from the few clear screen caps I've found, the lighting makes it hard to be certain). Khaki BDUs/duty tans appear to have gold patches with dark brown stitching. Marines appear to have black patches with white or grey stitching (again, lighting) on their black uniforms. The only Pegasus patches that anyone's produced clear screen caps of are on duty blue uniforms and those are bright blue with white stitching. I have no clear shots of what a Pegasus flight suit patch looks like at this point in time.

But the shots I've seen from the video blog confirm that the patches are predominantly blue (and a really bright blue at that). There seem to be two collar variations of the BDU's in Home pt. II, the normal collar like in any dress shirt worn by Apollo, and the Mandarin collar uniform worn by Adama. The Mandarin is the stand up collar that in the new generation uniforms is for comfort under body armor. You can see the difference in the screenshots for home on the reference link in the main article. The big two pics are the one of Apollo with the shouldered rifle and any of the Adama pics were he has the pepperbox aimed at Boomer's head.

If you are talking about the "Digital Urban Cammo" "BDU', which is actually known as a MARPAT...its not a collar variation, its the same collar. it can be worn like a madarin collar, or open like a standard butterfly collar.

This is seen in the background a few times in the Miniseries (once on a Deck Hand working at a bench in the hanger deck) but can be seen most clearly in the Episode "Litmus" on Sgt. I know this has not been discussed much, but as far as I can see, Military Dress falls into these topics

A) Parade Dress - Normal Bridge uniform with a "leather like" sash with medals earned.

: A) These are known as Dress Greys and fullfill the same role as the Full Dress Blues in the USN. 

: B) These are Blue with a different cut than the Greys. Except for Hoshi, all "Junior Officers" (Major and Below) wear the Diamond with the downturned wings and Colonel and up wear the larger spread wings. These are like the USN Service Dress Blue in that they can be worn on watch and are still formal enough for some ceremonies (like in Pegasus). 

: C) Mainly seen on Marines and a few random bridge and hallway extras. The OD uniform seems to be the standard uniform for the fleet and is like the Working Khaki in the USN. These can be worn be officers and non-coms alike and seem to be the most formal uniform available for the non-coms. For the officers, it's like an undress uniform. 

: D) There are also yellow uniforms of this type. Jammer wears one. 

: E) When have we seen DCUs?, all there have been is Black BDUs and Urban MARPAT copies.

Back to the original discussion, Point C), if you look at Talos's images Khaki OD dress, this is taken form the pilot episode as Tigh walks away from the CIC. To help everyone out a little, this is time index 8 mins 2 seconds. If you look at the right arm of the non-com, you will see a black armband, with 2 letters in yellow. If I can get a better/clearer shot of this, I would wager the armband reads "MP". Now tell me I don't know my millitary structures! Could anyone please help varify this (Pictorial)fact?

Senior officers' uniforms also feature a dark gray bar around the neck, and epaulettes. No, it is not called "Parade Dress" (well, with capitals like an official name like that), they call them "Dress Grays", i.e. dress uniform. A point I forgot to make was that the Dress Uniform is actuall an overcoat of sorts; the Duty Uniform (below) just tucks into the belt.

As for the differences in those little Wing badges they have, I would greatly appreciate if someone could find the little differences between them; however it is definately not "pending Viper Pilot Training", as I do believe that even Raptor pilots or Gaeta have them.

As I have stated on Point E), I conceeded it wasn't "Desert" combats, but "Urban" style. Talos quite rightly pointed that mistake out, and I have made sufficiant note of this fact, to correct at a later date in my own files. Once again, point conceeded, no problems here.

Point C) is a tricky one, but I have not seen an episode other than "Litmus"where it was used. Yes, I AGREE more research is needed on this point, maybe pool resourses to define is proper use (I'm offering an "Olive Branch" here, not many get handed out from me), but once again, no problems.

A and B are too close together to seperate, but both uniforms do have similarities with each other.

== Latest Uniform Quibble (Marines) ==

It would appear that TPTB's (or costume dept's) use of the "digiprint"/MARPAT camo BDU's in Home for the featured cast was a one-time occurance, or, at least, an employment ''that is not typical of Marine uniforms''. Up until the Lay Down Your Burdens episodes, we had only seen combat Marines in their black BDU's. Here they were headed back to Caprica to recover as many survivors as possible, and what BDU's do they end up using? OD/green. The vests remained black, but each Marine on the recovery team was suited in OD/green. If the digiprint-camo BDU '''''was''''' part of the Marines' uniform rotation, then it goes without saying that it should have been in this event.

Now, that could be from several reasons that either exist inside of, or outside of, the storyline. The reason I'm provocating is that A) the digiprint/MARPAT-camo was indeed a one-time use, spurred by a "Hey! This will look cool!" by a production source, and it wasn't intended to be, nor was it originally, a part of the "series bible", B) The production staff realized they'd be tattooed on the forums for using black (and I'm sure that it would go against the training/knowledge of any military-types on the staff) uniforms to depict a planetside operation, C) The staff couldn't afford, nor justify, purchasing more digiprint/MARPAT BDU's, and "old" camo BDU's wouldn't look "unique" enough for this storyline, and D) They used ''what they had on hand'' (OD/green BDU's) ''knowing that it's an exceptionally minor detail that shouldn't affect the story.''

If my post has a twinge of hostility in it, it's in response to certain folks' repeated (perhaps they've let up recently) projections of real-life structure, regulations, etc. into this topic. :I think the Digital BDUs aren't for the Marines, they've been consistently shown wearing solid color BDUs. My thinking is that the Digital Uniforms are a Fleet-only uniform. The colors are actually similar to the new Digital work uniforms the US Navy is experimenting with. They wouldn't be the best uniform for a mission in a woodland enviroment, is ODs are more appropriate. Here's an unknown uniform I saw while watching Act of Contrition. It's the same as the Dress Greys except the color of the coat is more black and less blue, the sash is blue, and there's an insignia shaped like a eagle (that's what it looks like to me) near where the sash and belt meet. Maybe it's one of the following:
*A Marine Dress Uniform, officer or enlisted
*A specific Honor Guard uniform

==The Ship Patches==
I'm going to quibble with both the description of the ship patches (because I think whoever wrote that section didn't understand how they're constructed), how many different patch variants there, and what they look like.
"Galactica's crew patch is colored gold, with "Battlestar Galactica BSG 75" written around the seal. Pegasus' crew patch is colored white, with "Battlestar Pegasus BSG 62" written around the seal. For both officers and enlisted crew, rank insignia is affixed to both sides of the collar."
No. The basic patch for Galactica is a gold/green ground. That's not stitching, it's a solid fabric with a high sheen. The only stitching is the outlining and lettering. That varies depending on what uniform the patch goes on. We've been looking closely at this at Dewback Wing because we're trying to reproduce the patches. The stitching appears in many cases to match the color of the shoulderpad of the uniform tunic. So the duty blues patch actually has very, very dark blue stitching, the duty greens patch has very dark green stitching. The flight suit patch appears to be made from the same material as the the flight suits with dark brown stitching. The deck crews appear to wear patches that are either gold or a darker bronze with dark brown or black stitching (I can't tell from the few clear screen caps I've found, the lighting makes it hard to be certain). Khaki BDUs/duty tans appear to have gold patches with dark brown stitching. Marines appear to have black patches with white or grey stitching (again, lighting) on their black uniforms. The only Pegasus patches that anyone's produced clear screen caps of are on duty blue uniforms and those are bright blue with white stitching. I have no clear shots of what a Pegasus flight suit patch looks like at this point in time.

Viewing the image at full size shows the image uploaded unmangled. What was foxing me was the thumbnail version that the upload page shows you. That is definitely ''not''
rendering correctly. The circular gradient in the center of the seal is missing for some unknown reason. Folks, this is why real artists don't use orphan formats like SVG...
There's no good program to directly edit them (and no, Inkblot isn't that good a choice either. It appears to have been written by geeks rather than artists from what I've
seen of it's user interface.) The only browser support is through Adobe's badly-outdated plugin (which won't display SVG files that Adobe Illustrator outputs, doesn't that
fill you with confidence?). Though Mozilla says they'll have native support working Real Soon Now. Even the WikiCommons group is still pretty heavily divided on this issue
because the format is so poorly supported. The biggest argument for it has been MediaWiki's internal SVG rendering engine. The fact that it can't seem to scale drawings
correctly doesn't fill me with confidence. I know the drawings and icons I've done for Wikipedia were all in PNG format (and some of them were in the last month or so).

Vector graphics format is only cool if you can actually get it to scale cleanly. It doesn't appear to be doing so in this case. I'll try a few more things with the parent file
that have been suggested to me, but if that doesn't fix the problem, I'd suggest switching to PNG format until MediaWiki gets their act together. And submit this as a

It came from the Reproduction Props Forum, yet again. The notes I have say it was originally scanned from the companion volume. A kinda rough scan, I ran it through Photoshop to clean it up a little. I can't remember, but I believe the constellation for Libra looked quite similar to the black one. Since we don't yet know as of yet what is the name for the Libra colony, I have left it blank. A close viewing of [[Colonial Day]] indicates that the flag currently labeled as [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Tauron|Tauron]] belongs to Safiya Sanne's seat - either Picon or Leonis; and that the black flag belongs to Robin Wenutu's seat (Canceron), and that VIrgon's flag is a white field with a green inner stripe and yellow outer stripe. I'm curious as to how QuintusCinna came to his conclusion that the delegates aren't seated at their apprporiate flags, since I don't know any other evidence linking particular flags to colonies. Don't trust the banners lining up with those they represent in [[Colonial Day]]. The reason I say this is that [[Tom Zarek]] is in one area of the room and his very obvious banner for Sagitarron is completely in another area. This is the same for Virgon's banner and their representative. There are 3 different questions I carry thanks to the shows I have watched. In the mini-series we see the banners are in this order from left to right: [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Virgon|Virgon]], [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]], [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]], [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Aerelon|Aerelon]], [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Gemenon|Gemenon]], Scorpion, Aquaria(?), [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Tauron|Tauron]], Libra (?), [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Sagittaron|Sagittaron]], [[Canceron]] (?), [[Leonis]]. Is this in the order that the colonies signed the unification treaty or is the order for the flags random or is it in the order they were nuked? Though I am sure the producers, directors, and such just put them up in random order, it is now a sense of fact for the show. If we were to believe they were placed up there, the banners must be up there in some order that is according to military protocol for flag bearing. In Colonial Day I add 2 more questions. We see that the banners are behind the delegates in a different order than in the mini-series. This means they were either a) put up randomly or b) have a separate purpose than those shown at the end of the mini-series (nuked, treaty order, or other). Then we see that the delegates are put in a different order than the banners behind them. The Gemenon delegate is clearly seen toward the middle and the Gemenon flag is clearly in a different area. The same questions come up for the delegates: are they randomly placed or is there reason. It's not alphabetical, and placements of delegates and banners in every society is always in some sort of traditional order. I hope that the Battlestar Galactica producers, writers, and such will be able to answer this though I suspect they won't because they have REAL lives.

As for the Picon flag, the constellation looks quite similar to the picon banner and the same goes for Tauron's with Taurus. I have no doubt with those. The Libra's icon can be seen in this picture http://www.gaitedhorses.net/Articles/HorseAstrology/AstrologySymbol.gif 2 clockwise from Sagittarius.

I have a set of colonial glyphs that were lifted from a copy of the voting ballots used in Lay Down Your Burdens Pt1. The ballot image I have has Baltar's name blurred out, as that was a spoiler at the time the image was released. ==Residence vs. Tribe==

I think there's a difference between "where a character currently makes their residence" and "what colony they are from". I think "what colony they are from" means "what ''tribe''" they are. For example, Dualla could have been away from Sagittaron for years and lived on another Colony, but she's still from the Sagittaron tribe. In "Bastille Day", she describes herself as "a Sagittaron", not "someone ''from'' Sagittaron".

Anyway, I also think that non-canonical information from SkyOne website should not be used in assuming Stabuck may be from Picon, not Caprica. We should wait until this is said on either the Scifi.com official site, or on screen.

On p.86 of "Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion", by David Bassom, there is an "''early'' concept sketch of the flags of the Twele Colonies"; On this, it lists the names "Scorpia", but also "Libran", and "Aquarion". "[[Colonial Day]]" established that these two Colonies are in fact named "Libra" and "Aquaria", in dialog, etc. This evidence has led me to believe that "Scorpia" was amongst some early ideas for Colony names that were thrown around in the early stages of production, but which were later changed; however, the art and props department wasn't notified of the switch, or made a mistake, etc. I'm also inclined to this line of thinking because the props in this scene feature several now-infamous goofs, such as the switcheroo between Canceron, Picon, Leonis, etc., etc. As for the evidence from "Scorpia Traveler", there's also a "Gemini" ship, as well as mispelling etc. which have led me to the belief that certain ship names are just meant for asthetic value and do not necessarily reflect the actual name of their home Colony. In "Home, Part II" it was established that the Colonies used to have "ancient names" which align more closely to the signs of the Zodiac, but which over the millenia have drifted away into their present form. Perhaps some ship captains just felt like naming their vessels after the more ancient names. I don't know. But the main points remain: A) Ship names aren't very reliable as an information source, B) this scene had many goofs in it, C) the official companion shows that this was an early name thrown around, but later abandoned, and several of these early names have been disproven by this point. Therefore, I think "Scorpion Fleet Shipyards", the first ''prominent'' mention of Scorpion/Scorpia, taken with the above evidence, proves that the true name of the Colony is "Scorpion". I just watched that ep last night and I don't remember any arrows or name tags... Upon re-watching the Miniseries (IMHO anyway) all references are given as hours from caprica, but when the war alert first goes off and Cmdr Adama asks to "scan the system" (circa 48mins in) the report is given that "Now, looks like the main fight is shaping up over here near Virgon's orbit" and a few lines latter "If we can keep Virgon between us and the battle". This topic keeps coming up, and our spelling conventions do not seem to match the ones generally used throughout fandom, so I want to have a definitive location for sources on spelling used here. Our emphasis, as always, is on citation and accuracy.

The names of six of the colonies can be seen fully spelled out in the episode "Colonial Day". There should be no room for debate on these.

This is complicated by [[Helena Cain]]'s reference to the "Scorpian Fleet Shipyards" in the episode "[[Pegasus (episode)]]". [[Talk:The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Scorpion vs. Scorpia|Extensive discussion]] on battlestar wiki concluded that the visual evidence should be deferred to, and also suggested that she may have been using "Scorpian" as an adjectival form of the colony's name. This was supported by Michelle Forbes's use of a reduced vowel in the final syllable, while other colony names used throughout the series have used the fully realized vowel /ɑ/.

The names "Aquaria" and "Tauron" were given in "[[Colonial Day]]" and "[[Pegasus (episode)]]", respectively. There is no serious debate on their spelling.

Very little evidence is available regarding the colony corresponding to Libra. Neither it nor its citizens have ever been mentioned in the miniseries or 33 episodes aired to date, nor has RDM mentioned the colony in his blog. SciFi.com's website refers to the [[Space Park]] as being of "Libran" registry, but it is unclear whether this is meant to be the nominal or adjectival form of the colony's name (see below).

The name of the colony corresponding to Aries was named as {{IPA|'ɛɹ.lɑn}} in "[[Bastille Day]]". Two spellings have been proposed. It is worth noting that the second vowel, which is the one at issue, is not actually pronounced by actress Mary McDonnell.

== Notes on Culture ==

All right, has anyone noticed that in the Colonies, virtually everything that would be a rectangle here on Earth (pictureframe, sheet of paper, etc.) is a ''hexagon''? To cite some examples, in the [[Miniseries]] Roslin is handed a slip of paper describing the Cylon attack on a networked Battlestar. That slip is a hexagon. Adama's picture frame of him, Zak and Lee is also a hexagon. Even the computers are hexagons. Now, a hexagon has 6 sides (half of 12, which is seemingly a symbolic number in the series), and is a practical shape for use (12-gons would be stupid for paper) so does anyone think that the hexagon is some kind of symbolic shape for the Colonials?

Also, in the [[Delphi Museum of the Colonies]], Starbuck is walking past display cases full of ancient pottery. Culture is transmitted in the form of art and artifacts, so while this may be trivial I feel like it is worth noting.

In addition to this, notice how Elosha's priestess garment is pretty eccentric, while Brother Cavil's uniform is a plain black cassock with some purple decorations. A difference of garb choice for priestesses and priests, perhaps?

Furthermore, in the [[Miniseries]], notice those Caprican mothers carting their babies around the city in those oversized plastic baby carriages that look like they provide too much protection for the tots. Perhaps a link to the Scripture statement saying that life is precious and should be protected? I can't think of any other way for the carriage manufacturer to be willing to put extra money into obtaining more plastic resources for the increased carriage size and safety. No wait, lawsuits... But that still wouldn't explain the supersized babymobiles and extra costs and materials needed for manufacturing.

Cereals! In [[Sacrifice]] (I think, I'm not sure), Roslin tells an aggressive Billy Keikaya, "Looks like someone ate their Wheaties today." Okay, so...General Mills was actually a ''Colonial'' corporation and they imported it to Earth while we weren't looking. This might just imply that the Colonials also ate Cascadian Farm, Frescarini, Lucky Charms, Chex Mix, Cheerios, Hamburger Helper...the list goes on. Either that or I'm just making a big deal over some trivial prodcut placement.

Finally, in TOS, most of the buildings in Caprica (with exception of Long Beach City Hall where the episode was filmed), were pyramids. In the RDM series, there aren't as many pyramids, but there are a couple in Caprica City (let me get the image). Since there is circumstantial evidence that life began on Earth, does anyone think these pyramids could be a link with the Egyptians, who already had a thriving civilization and the Giza pyramids built by the time Greece (and perhaps the Kobol-sect) became an ancient powerhouse?

Note, that it's really just an in-joke from the Miniseries: they had to "cut corners" on the production due to budget restraints, so it started out as a joke that they were "cutting corners" on everything. I saw in the mini-series they mentioned a colony called "ICON" alongside of "PICON" so I'm a little weirded out. As for Leonis, that flag has been found. I did a picture search in google for the zodiac's constellation and found the flag's symbol looked exactly like what I have designated. I can't remember, but I believe the constellation for Libra looked quite similar to the black one. Since we don't yet know as of yet what is the name for the Libra colony, I have left it blank. A close viewing of [[Colonial Day]] indicates that the flag currently labeled as [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Tauron|Tauron]] belongs to Safiya Sanne's seat - either Picon or Leonis; and that the black flag belongs to Robin Wenutu's seat (Canceron), and that VIrgon's flag is a white field with a green inner stripe and yellow outer stripe. I'm curious as to how QuintusCinna came to his conclusion that the delegates aren't seated at their apprporiate flags, since I don't know any other evidence linking particular flags to colonies. Don't trust the banners lining up with those they represent in [[Colonial Day]]. The reason I say this is that [[Tom Zarek]] is in one area of the room and his very obvious banner for Sagitarron is completely in another area. This is the same for Virgon's banner and their representative. There are 3 different questions I carry thanks to the shows I have watched. In the mini-series we see the banners are in this order from left to right: [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Virgon|Virgon]], [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]], [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]], [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Aerelon|Aerelon]], [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Gemenon|Gemenon]], Scorpion, Aquaria(?), [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Tauron|Tauron]], Libra (?), [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Sagittaron|Sagittaron]], [[Canceron]] (?), [[Leonis]]. Is this in the order that the colonies signed the unification treaty or is the order for the flags random or is it in the order they were nuked? Though I am sure the producers, directors, and such just put them up in random order, it is now a sense of fact for the show. If we were to believe they were placed up there, the banners must be up there in some order that is according to military protocol for flag bearing. In Colonial Day I add 2 more questions. We see that the banners are behind the delegates in a different order than in the mini-series. This means they were either a) put up randomly or b) have a separate purpose than those shown at the end of the mini-series (nuked, treaty order, or other). Then we see that the delegates are put in a different order than the banners behind them. The Gemenon delegate is clearly seen toward the middle and the Gemenon flag is clearly in a different area. The same questions come up for the delegates: are they randomly placed or is there reason. It's not alphabetical, and placements of delegates and banners in every society is always in some sort of traditional order. I hope that the Battlestar Galactica producers, writers, and such will be able to answer this though I suspect they won't because they have REAL lives.

As for the Picon flag, the constellation looks quite similar to the picon banner and the same goes for Tauron's with Taurus. I have no doubt with those. The Libra's icon can be seen in this picture http://www.gaitedhorses.net/Articles/HorseAstrology/AstrologySymbol.gif 2 clockwise from Sagittarius.

I have a set of colonial glyphs that were lifted from a copy of the voting ballots used in Lay Down Your Burdens Pt1. I can upload both the cap of the ballot and the vector graphics file of the glyphs. I've already released the glyphs for public use, so I have no problem with their being used here. The ballot image I have has Baltar's name blurred out, as that was a spoiler at the time the image was released. I think there's a difference between "where a character currently makes their residence" and "what colony they are from". I think "what colony they are from" means "what ''tribe''" they are. For example, Dualla could have been away from Sagittaron for years and lived on another Colony, but she's still from the Sagittaron tribe. In "Bastille Day", she describes herself as "a Sagittaron", not "someone ''from'' Sagittaron".

Anyway, I also think that non-canonical information from SkyOne website should not be used in assuming Stabuck may be from Picon, not Caprica. We should wait until this is said on either the Scifi.com official site, or on screen.

"[[Colonial Day]]" established that these two Colonies are in fact named "Libra" and "Aquaria", in dialog, etc. This evidence has led me to believe that "Scorpia" was amongst some early ideas for Colony names that were thrown around in the early stages of production, but which were later changed; however, the art and props department wasn't notified of the switch, or made a mistake, etc. I'm also inclined to this line of thinking because the props in this scene feature several now-infamous goofs, such as the switcheroo between Canceron, Picon, Leonis, etc., etc. As for the evidence from "Scorpia Traveler", there's also a "Gemini" ship, as well as mispelling etc. which have led me to the belief that certain ship names are just meant for asthetic value and do not necessarily reflect the actual name of their home Colony. In "Home, Part II" it was established that the Colonies used to have "ancient names" which align more closely to the signs of the Zodiac, but which over the millenia have drifted away into their present form. Perhaps some ship captains just felt like naming their vessels after the more ancient names. I don't know. But the main points remain: A) Ship names aren't very reliable as an information source, B) this scene had many goofs in it, C) the official companion shows that this was an early name thrown around, but later abandoned, and several of these early names have been disproven by this point. Therefore, I think "Scorpion Fleet Shipyards", the first ''prominent'' mention of Scorpion/Scorpia, taken with the above evidence, proves that the true name of the Colony is "Scorpion". Upon re-watching the Miniseries (IMHO anyway) all references are given as hours from caprica, but when the war alert first goes off and Cmdr Adama asks to "scan the system" (circa 48mins in) the report is given that "Now, looks like the main fight is shaping up over here near Virgon's orbit" and a few lines latter "If we can keep Virgon between us and the battle". This was supported by Michelle Forbes's use of a reduced vowel in the final syllable, while other colony names used throughout the series have used the fully realized vowel /ɑ/.

The names "Aquaria" and "Tauron" were given in "[[Colonial Day]]" and "[[Pegasus (episode)]]", respectively. There is no serious debate on their spelling.

Very little evidence is available regarding the colony corresponding to Libra. Neither it nor its citizens have ever been mentioned in the miniseries or 33 episodes aired to date, nor has RDM mentioned the colony in his blog. SciFi.com's website refers to the [[Space Park]] as being of "Libran" registry, but it is unclear whether this is meant to be the nominal or adjectival form of the colony's name (see below).

The name of the colony corresponding to Aries was named as {{IPA|'ɛɹ.lɑn}} in "[[Bastille Day]]". Two spellings have been proposed. It is worth noting that the second vowel, which is the one at issue, is not actually pronounced by actress Mary McDonnell.

== Notes on Culture ==

All right, has anyone noticed that in the Colonies, virtually everything that would be a rectangle here on Earth (pictureframe, sheet of paper, etc.) is a ''hexagon''? To cite some examples, in the [[Miniseries]] Roslin is handed a slip of paper describing the Cylon attack on a networked Battlestar. That slip is a hexagon. Adama's picture frame of him, Zak and Lee is also a hexagon. Even the computers are hexagons. Now, a hexagon has 6 sides (half of 12, which is seemingly a symbolic number in the series), and is a practical shape for use (12-gons would be stupid for paper) so does anyone think that the hexagon is some kind of symbolic shape for the Colonials?

Also, in the [[Delphi Museum of the Colonies]], Starbuck is walking past display cases full of ancient pottery. Culture is transmitted in the form of art and artifacts, so while this may be trivial I feel like it is worth noting.

In addition to this, notice how Elosha's priestess garment is pretty eccentric, while Brother Cavil's uniform is a plain black cassock with some purple decorations. A difference of garb choice for priestesses and priests, perhaps?

Furthermore, in the [[Miniseries]], notice those Caprican mothers carting their babies around the city in those oversized plastic baby carriages that look like they provide too much protection for the tots. Perhaps a link to the Scripture statement saying that life is precious and should be protected? I can't think of any other way for the carriage manufacturer to be willing to put extra money into obtaining more plastic resources for the increased carriage size and safety. No wait, lawsuits... But that still wouldn't explain the supersized babymobiles and extra costs and materials needed for manufacturing.

Cereals! In [[Sacrifice]] (I think, I'm not sure), Roslin tells an aggressive Billy Keikaya, "Looks like someone ate their Wheaties today." Okay, so...General Mills was actually a ''Colonial'' corporation and they imported it to Earth while we weren't looking. This might just imply that the Colonials also ate Cascadian Farm, Frescarini, Lucky Charms, Chex Mix, Cheerios, Hamburger Helper...the list goes on. Either that or I'm just making a big deal over some trivial prodcut placement.

Finally, in TOS, most of the buildings in Caprica (with exception of Long Beach City Hall where the episode was filmed), were pyramids. In the RDM series, there aren't as many pyramids, but there are a couple in Caprica City (let me get the image). Since there is circumstantial evidence that life began on Earth, does anyone think these pyramids could be a link with the Egyptians, who already had a thriving civilization and the Giza pyramids built by the time Greece (and perhaps the Kobol-sect) became an ancient powerhouse?

Note, that it's really just an in-joke from the Miniseries: they had to "cut corners" on the production due to budget restraints, so it started out as a joke that they were "cutting corners" on everything. You'd still "be bold" to go ahead an implement it for one character, to show how it would look. It would be "reckless" to go ahead an implement the new widget on every character page on the wiki without feedback. What happens if you post something here, or on the new widget's talk page, or elsewhere soliciting feedback and you don't get any? (I know that happens sometimes, and it can be frustrating.) Maybe try to actively engage some of the "regulars" on their talk page, inviting them to weigh in on a topic. Is it slower? Most definitely. However, in the process of building consensus you're bringing others "on board", investing them in the project. You'll likely have helping hands for implementing whatever gets sorted out (and it may even be exactly what you proposed). I think the main distinction falls between "implementing" the new ideas (creating the widgets, proposing formatting standards/changes, etc) and doing all the grunt work to make them happen. Energetic and active posters are vital to the health of the wiki. We just need to make sure that we use good judgement and establish consensus as to where we direct all that energy and activity. I don't see any images for the Season Three article. I have a whole stack of screen caps made from a relatively high-resolution version of the teaser (I think it was the largest version that got uploaded to the net). Would these be useful and/or wanted?

On a related note, could someone take a look at my user talk page and check my art links. Is there anything there in the sample artwork I've got uploaded on my website right now that would be useful for the wiki? I've actually got quite a bit more, but most of it was for building reproduction props (engraving on Adama's lighter, the Galactica press passes, the two booze bottle labels I have links to). The only other thing from my drawings that I think might be useful for the wiki might be the [http://www.retro.com/employees/lee/Blasphemy/SP/CubitCollection.html Cubit Collection]. Keep in mind that the only designs we have positive screen caps of are Caprican and Scorpian marked cubits (both silver and gold). It appears at is point that the obverse design is either the [http://www.retro.com/employees/lee/Art/BSG/PhoenixSealLo.gif Pheonix seal] or a variant of the [http://www.retro.com/employees/lee/Art/BSG/CouncilSealLo.gif Council seal].

Curious if BattlestarWiki needs screen caps or drawings. I've taken a quick look at the Projects pages, but they're not terribly helpful if you're trying to scan for "What Should I Do Now?" I notice that there's a request for the Colonial symbol, which I have in vector format, as well as the individual colony glyphs. In fact, I have the glyphs available as a Photoshop Custom Shapes (.csh) file that I've released for public use, so anyone can use it to create new graphics. Some low-resolution examples of my work:
