Cloud 9 is a massive, FTL-capable luxury liner within the Fleet. Extensively damaged during the Cylon attack, she had to be evacuated while repairs were made. Following the repairs, she is returned to full service within the Fleet, and provides a venue for the first sitting of the interim Quorum of Twelve convened by President Roslin (Colonial Day).

The ship is unique in that as well as traditional living and working space on board, Cloud 9 incorporates a huge pressurized dome, that provides a realistic simulation of a planetary surface, including gardens, buildings, trees - even an artificial holographic sky. Not only is the dome make this ship more luxurious, but the comfortable hotel rooms and enjoyable lounges and bars help to make this ship just as popular and well known.

After her flight from captivity in Galacticas brig, President Roslin, along with Captain Lee Adama and priest Elosha, flee in a Raptor to Cloud 9 in order hide from Colonel Tigh and Commander Adama. The group is taken in by Tom Zarek, who meets with them on in a hangar on the ship. Cloud 9s high volume of intraship traffic makes it virtually impossible for Galactica to track their final hiding place (Resistance).

The ship would later by quarintined by Commander Adama around a week later in order to find the escaped former president, however it was fruitless as Roslin and the other fugitives had escaped to Kimba Huta then Astral Queen (The Farm).

Cloud 9 also has a swimming area. Commander Adama's orders shore leave for Colonel Tigh, advising him to take a swim and relax from his unexpected command duties when Adama was injured. Colonel Tigh never leaves Galactica to enjoy it as his Raptor is sabotaged in an assassination attempt (Final Cut).

The Cylon sympathizer/terrorist group Demand Peace, led by Royan Jahee and Gina Inviere (who has been hiding aboard the ship for weeks), also operated out of a suite located onboard Cloud 9 (Epiphanies).

Many of Cloud 9s accommodations are more like hotel rooms than bunks or seats, pointing to its original purpose as a luxury liner. A passenger, Shevon, lives in one such room (Room L258, L Deck), where Captain Adama visits her for intimate moments. Shevon is removed from her room by Phelan's thugs, and Captain Adama later finds the killer of Commander Jack Fisk in the room, dead of a gunshot to the head (Black Market).

A bar on the ship, the Starlight Lounge, is the scene of a hostage crisis in which a disgruntled Sesha Abinell, her brother-in-law Kern Vinson, hardline man Nelson Page and often nervous George Chu hold many people hostage including Captain Lee "Apollo" Adama, Petty Officer Anastasia Dualla, President's chief of staff Billy Keikeya and Galactica executive officer's wife Ellen Tigh. With the help of several gunmen, she demands that she is handed over Sharon Valerii in order to take revenge on her for an earlier Cylon attack on the Fleet which left her husband dead. She and her co-conspirators are ultimately killed when the lounge is stormed by Colonial Marines (Sacrifice).

Following the discovery of New Caprica and the inauguration of Doctor Gaius Baltar as President of the Twelve Colonies, Cloud 9 was blown up by Gina by the nuclear warhead given to her by Baltar several months ago. The resulting explosion would destroy at least three ships and at least one atmospheric shuttle (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II).
Notes
* The origin of the term "cloud nine" is curious in that it is an American expression popularized in the 20th Century as a term describing euphoria or higher state of bliss. The term appeared to originate from the 1896 edition of the International Cloud Atlas, where the cumulo-nimbus cloud was given the designation of nine, which was the highest altitude that a cloud could be, according to information from the Wiktionary. However, it is just one of many terms of Earth-origin used on the show.
* Cloud Nine was filmed on location at the University of British Columbia's Chan Centre.
*It should be noted that in Razor and The Plan, both set prior to Cloud 9s destruction, the large vessel did not appear or was mentioned at all. Its destruction hasn't been mentioned at all throughout the remainder of the series and is likely not to be revisited given the end of the series in 2009.

Should the tense of the article be changed to past, now that the Cloud 9 has been destroyed? --Kraetos 11:24, 12 March 2006 (CST)
:Probably not. Even though WE all know that it's gone, it's still there for seasons 1 and 2 (well, most of 2 anyway...). Thus anybody reading about it from a season 1 or earlier 2 standpoint would still see it as existing. I think that's the reasoning behind episodic info being present tense. As for tense about the stuff that happened in the year gap on New Caprica... I assume present tense would be best just to avoid a situation where you're switching back and forth between past and present tense along the same timeline. If there's more discussion of this we might take it over to S&C. --Steelviper 11:36, 12 March 2006 (CST)
::In the past, we've used past tense for events that ocurred prior to any filmed episode (Anne and William Adama married twenty years prior to the attack; Ellen Tigh was discovered three weeks prior to "TIgh Me Up, Tigh Me Down"), and present tense for events that actually take place during episodes. I'm somewhat partial to that convention, which would put the events of the one-year-gap in the past tense, but I agree that it could be confusing. I'd like to hear others' thoughts. --Peter Farago 13:23, 12 March 2006 (CST)
:::Personally, I believe that anything before the Miniseries should be spoken of in the past tense. Everything else should be present tense. At least that's what I'm partial to myself when I edit/write. -- Joe Beaudoin 13:51, 12 March 2006 (CST)
::::I already forsee many problems with tense that are going to crop up thanks to the gap. We can't say "if we saw it on screen as it happened, its present, but if we saw it in a flashback, its past" any more, because that means, for example, the events of day 200 are in present tense, but the events of day 400 are past tense. While changing tenses to be relative to individual articles would make the articles clearer, having tense be relative to the Miniseries is easier to maintain on a large scale. It is also the status quo, and would be a pain to change every article.
::::If we think this issue is serious enough, we should put it somewhere where more people will see it and we will be able to gather ideas. If we decide we need a better solution, I am sure that someone would come up with it. I find that theres always a solution to most problems if you look hard enough and ask a lot of people. Regardless, the present tense solution does work for now, until we start getting into flashbacks - which, I gather will be frequent in the first few episodes of season 3. --Kraetos 23:05, 12 March 2006 (CST)
Deaths
I've been trying to work out how many people died when the Cloud Nine was destroyed. Minus the total number of deaths given for the occupation of New Caprica (given during Baltar's trial in Crossroads, Part 1) from the difference in population count between the start of LDYB Part 2 and Collaborators gives a 2,918-person difference, the majority of whom I'm assuming died when the C9 exploded. However, you also have to factor in all the births and deaths during the year on New Caprica, minus the Marines who died in the rescue mission to Caprica and then plus Anders and his resistance fighters. It's difficult to come to any final figure other than it was in the high 2,000s.--Werthead 23:04, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I always wondered the same thing as well. Although it functioned as a hotel for military personal on rotation and civilians alike, there were people living there as an actual home-ship. With that being said, it can only be assumed that at least, if not more than, 700 or more people perished on that ship alone given it's size and interior configuration. -racetrack

I see no reason why this page should be deleted. Those Blue prints are official from the Battlestar Galactica RPG Guide which I purchased in PDF form. I spent a lot of time uploading the Blue Prints and organizing them on my slow PC.
People come here to get info on Battlestar Galactica and other ships in the Fleet and those pics give info on where different parts of the ships are located. Can we a least talk about it. Just email me at philip_connor_sutherland@hotmail.com or talk to me on my talk page. By the way can some one take a look at The Fleet (RDM) page. The destroyed ships section is all messed up, all of the ships are destroyed or you could just put destroyed before (Day Break). Thanks
: Philip, we are talking about it... otherwise the page would be deleted outright. This article, as it presently stands, does not cite the source you mentioned. Also, the RPG is not canonical at all, although it is officially licensed by NBC-Universal. Therefore, if this article is to be here at all (and I don't see any reason why not at this point, now that you've clarified the source), three things need to be done:
:# The sources need to be cited.
:# The page needs to be tagged with separate continuity.
:# Also, the pages that you link these blue prints to need to say something along the lines of: These blueprints come from THIS SOURCE, but are not canon and thus are offered here only under the separate continuity.
: Also, we should note that the destroyed ships listed in The Fleet are ships destroyed since the Miniseries and before the final events of "Daybreak, Part II." That should solve the issue you have brought up. :) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 13:29, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
The luxury liner is a standard model passenger liner. Liners of this model include:

*Olympic Carrier
*Chrion
*Pyxis

A few other variants of this ship type can be seen from time to time, although their spaceline affiliation remains unknown:
*Gemon Liners is a company name visible on a similar red liner in several promotional renders by Zoic employee Gabriel Köerner, which some fans believe match the identity of Gemenon Liner 1701.
*A passenger cruiser completely painted in orange

Liners of this type are capable of both atmospheric and space flight. Such ships appear in the skies above Caprica City prior to the Cylon holocaust (Miniseries). Depending on internal configuration, these ships are capable of transporting over 1,300 passengers and crew (33). The interior for these ships were never seen in any actual episode of the re-imagined series but the inside of the Pyxis has been seen on several occasions (see article on Pyxis).

Notes
* This ship is identified as an "Intersun passenger cruiser" on SciFi.com, although the actual ship depicted is operated by Gemon Liners. Since Intersun is apparently a liner company which operates Colonial Heavy 798, among other ships, it seems unlikely that they were responsible for the design of this craft.
* This vessel was an alternate model for Colonial One, which was rejected in favor of the current modelcitation needed.
Pyxis is an orange-colored passenger liner in the Fleet that survives both exoduses. Its last captain is Jules Tarney.

During the attack on the Colonies, Pyxis was in orbit of Canceron, before eventually joining up with the rest of the surviving ships near Caprica ("The Plan", "Miniseries")

Pyxis is one of the many ships that are escorted by Raptors through a very dense star cluster to the algae planet (The Passage).

The ship is lost in the Battle of the Ionian Nebula when a spiraling Cylon Raider, damaged by Viper fire, impacts near the engines, resulting in catastrophic damage. The resulting explosion destroys the ship with 600 people aboard (He That Believeth In Me).

The interior of this ship is not shown in any actual episodes of the re-imagined series. The only times that the interior was shown was in the movie "The Plan" and during two deleted scenes of the episode "Day Break". The inside of this ship has orange walls with seats identical to the ones inside Colonial One. By close examination, there are two windows on each side: one on the top and one on the middle similar to Colonial One's windows. This, however, could be a design flaw as the windows do not match with the exterior design of the ship as there should only be one window instead of two (Daybreak deleted scenes, The Plan).

Notes
*The ship can first be seen joining Laura Roslin's convoy in the Miniseries. However, the name Pyxis is first introduced on the voting tally board in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II", and the ship is not identified as such until "He That Believeth In Me".
*Pyxis is a minor southern constellation introduced by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille under the name Pyxis Nautica. It is perhaps supposed to represent the compass of Argo Navis.
