This differs from [[w:glossolalia|glossolalia]]: constant nonsensical speech, and [[w:xenoglossy|xenoglossy]]: speaking in a language not ordinarily known by the speaker. Glossolalia is also known as "speaking in tongues." While the Hybrid speaks the same common language as the humanoid Cylons and Colonials, the content of her speech contacts religious and prophetic messages related to the series storylines as classic glossolalia is claimed to exhibit.</ref> Despite their seemly nonsensical nature, they sometimes seem to relate to the wider world around them, perhaps with a prophetic nature. At least one Hybrid has spoken utterances that suggest a knowledge of the 'activation' of the [[Final Five]]:

It is not much consolation that society will pick up the bits, leaving us at eight modern where punishment, rather than interdiction, is paramount. Please, cut the fuse. They will not harm their own. End of line. Limiting diffusions to two dimensions increases the number of evolutionary jumps within the species. Rise and measure [[Temple of Hopes|the temple of the five]]. A Hybrid aboard a basestar that oversaw the attack on the Colonies:

* Counting down. All functions nominal. All functions optimal. Counting down. The center holds. The falcon hears the falconer. Infrastructure, check. Wetware, check. Everyone hang on to the life bar, please.

* Apotheosis was the beginning before the beginning. Devices on alert. Observe the procedures of a general alert. The base and the pinnacle. The flower inside the fruit that is both its parent and its child. Decadent as ancestors. The portal and that which passes.

* Nuclear devices activated, and the machine keeps pushing time through the cogs, like paste into strings into paste again, and only the machine keeps using time to make time to make time.

* And when the machine stops, time was an illusion that we created free will. Twelve battles, three stars, and yet we are countless as the bodies in which we dwell, are both parent and infinite children in perfect copies. No degradation.

* The makers of the makers fall before the child. Accessing defense system. Handshake, handshake. Second level clear.

*Accepting scan. Love outlasts death.

*Their ships fail. Skittering like skipped stones. Meaningless in the absence of time.

===Rebel Hybrid===
[[Kara Thrace]] travels to the rebel basestar to hear their Hybrid, whom [[Leoben]] believes will guide her on her quest for earth. She finds little sense in its ramblings:
*Then shall the maidens rejoice at the dance.
*They'll start going ripe on us pretty soon.
*Centrifugal force reacts to the rotating frame of reference.
*The obstinate toy soldier becomes pliant.
*The city devours the land, the people devour the city...
*Intruders swarm like flame, like the whirlwind; Hopes soaring to slaughter all their best against our hulls.
*All these things at once and many more, not because it wishes harm, because it likes violent vibrations to change constantly.
*But you are a spark of God's fire.
*The children of the one reborn shall find their own country.
*Compartmentalize integrity conflicts with the obligation to provide access.
*No ceremonies are necessary.
*Contact is inevitable, leading to information bleed.
*Assume the relaxation length of photons in the sample atmosphere is constant.
Just as the Hybrid is being disconnected from its basestar she delivers one final, and unusually coherent, message to Thrace:
*Thus will it come to pass. A dying leader will know the truth of the [[Opera House]]. The missing [[Number Three|Three]] will give you the [[Final Five|Five]] who come from the home of the [[Earth (RDM)|Thirteenth]]. You are the harbinger of death, Kara Thrace. You will lead them all to their end. End of Line. ([[Faith]])
When President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] is informed of this message she goes to speak with the Hybrid ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]). She has little success talking to the Hybrid and does not get the answers she was expecting:
*Filters, Filters, the sublime elevation of the lifter and the filters
*The wing beat of the dove drown out the heartbeat of those who follow the [[Number Six|Six]] is back in the stream.
*The [[Natalie|Six]] who went among the makers is no longer.
*Back in the stream that feeds the ocean that feeds the stream.
*Such a format will close the door.
*[[D'anna Biers|The three]] is online.
*Protect the [[Hera Agathon|child]].
*To remove the pump with the attached hose and wiring, simultaneously release the three tangs while pulling the pump out of the retainer along with the line and wiring. ([[The Hub]])

== First Hybrid ==
The [[first Hybrid]] also says several prophetic phrases, although this Hybrid's behavior displays far more coherence, grammatically. The First Hybrid also shows self-awareness, speaking in complete sentences when addressing [[Kendra Shaw]] ([[Razor]]).

*At last, they’ve come for me. I feel their lives, their destinies spilling out before me. The denial of the one true path, played out on a [[New Caprica|world not their own]], will end soon enough. Soon there will be [[Final Five|four, glorious in awakening]], struggling with the knowledge of their true selves, the pain of revelation bringing new clarity, and in the midst of confusion, [[Crossroads, Part II#Act_4|he will find her]]. Enemies brought together by impossible longing, enemies now [[Cylon Civil War#Proposed_Alliance_with_the_Humans|joined as one]]. The way forward at once unthinkable, yet inevitable. And the [[Ellen Tigh|fifth]], still in shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering. I can see them all. The [[Significant Seven|seven, now six]]<ref>At the time of this utterance, [[Number Three]] has not yet been [[Boxing|boxed]]</ref>, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin, but in time, it is sin that will consume them. *As my own/lone existence comes to a close, only to begin anew, in ways uncertain.
*All [of] this has happened before, and [it] will happen again...again...again...again...again...again...again...

==Samuel Anders==
After a bullet penetrates his brain during [[Gaeta's Mutiny]] and the subsequent operation to remove the bullet from his brain, [[Samuel Anders]] is rendered comatose. Due to his Cylon nature, his brain functions allow him to become a form of Hybrid; he is first to mention [[The Colony]] and unlock the knowledge of the [[Final Five]]'s true nature, prior to the operation that renders him comatose and ultimately dependent on Cylon technologies. After his operation, members of the [[Significant Seven]] construct a Hybrid tank on ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' in the hopes of essentially restoring his mental abilities, ultimately becoming ''Galactica'''s Hybrid:

*The neuroanatomy of fear and faith share common afferent pathways. Flip a coin. Increased vascular pressure marks the threat response. Free will scuttles in the swamp of fear, do not fear the word. You are the harbinger of death Kara Thrace, you will lead them all to their end. End of line. New command. Resume function. Resume function. Resume function...
*A closed system lacks the ability to renew itself. Knowledge alone is a poor primer...
*End of line. Begin reintegration of right hemisphere subcommand routines ...patterns... the universe...sea... begin reintegration of command subroutines. There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza, there's a hole in the bucket. A/the long view returns patterns and repetitions... all has happened before and all will happen again...
*Spins and turns, angles and curves. The shape of dreams, half remembered. Slip the surly bonds of earth and touch the face of perfection - a perfect face, perfect lace. Find the perfect world for the end of Kara Thrace. End of line.

During the [[Battle of the Colony]], Anders is seen responding to commands by [[Galen Tyrol]]:
*There are secrets within lies, answers within riddles. Lay off the ACS, you betcha Galen. Open your mind and hear what your heart wants to deny. End of line.

After the Fleet's discovery of [[Earth (RDM)|the second Earth]], Anders navigates [[The Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] into the planet's sun. When Anders' wife [[Kara Thrace]] says goodbye, he simply responds, "[[Maelstrom|See you on the other side]]."

==The Colony Hybrid==
Once [[Samuel Anders]] begins to communicate with The Colony's (Chief?) Hybrid, she utters one line before deactivating the defenses:

* Look through the eye to know thyself.

This could be interpretted as she was herself looking within and shutting down the defneses, after realizing the truth of one of the Final Five's return.

==Rebel Hybrid's Message deciphered==
Some of what the rebel hybrid has said has come to pass and has been revealed.

What it said about the Dying Leader and the Opera House referes to Roslin and her visions but that has not been resolved yet. The truth behind what it said about Kara being the Harbinger of Death may refer to her part in the destruction of the Resurrection Hub but this too is unclear. However, the part about the Three leading them to the Five that come from the home of the Thirteenth is now clear and makes sense: D'Anna Biers saw the faces of the Final Five in the Temple of Five. She is ultimately unboxed and is able to lead them to four of the five with the identity of the fifth being discovered at Earth.

It is learned that the Final Five in fact ''come'' from Earth as they were born there and the Thirteenth Tribe are Cylons who were apparently created on Kobol. They came to the Colonies to help us after they had their own nuclear holocaust and had their real memories blocked by Cavil and were placed among humans with no knowledge of their true identities.

Many of the Rebel Hybrid's messages may also reference the ''Book of Jeremiah'' from the Old Testament. The ''Book of Jeremiah'' deals with themes of Judaism vs Paganism, Prophets and prophecy, destruction of home, and a main character overwhelmed by his task - concurrent with many of the themes in the show. Roslin later ''did'' come to know the truth of the [[Opera House Prophecy]]: it was a vision that came true in the final episode with Athena, Roslin, Baltar and Caprica Six protecting Hera during the [[Battle of The Colony]], but their actions exactly mirrored that of the vision except they were on ''Galactica'' and not in the Opera House although they did flash to that vision several times.

The room with the Final Five in it turned out to be ''Galactica's'' CIC and the Final Five were in similar positions on the balcony to the ones they were in in the vision.

A '''basestar''' (known interchangeably as a "baseship") is the most prominent example of the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] military presence. As the capital ship of the Cylons, the basestar appears in three forms in the [[Re-imagined Series]].

The modern basestars, seen some 40 years after the end of the [[Cylon War]], are approximately the same size as a Colonial battlestar but appear to be more technologically advanced <ref>The official SciFi.com website indicates that basestars "dwarf" a battlestar. However, aired information in season 3, which shows ''Galactica'' and ''Pegasus'' in close proximity to a basestar, contradict SciFi.com's information.</ref>. The shape of the newer basestar reflects its name, with two Y-shaped hulls attached at their centers by a single pylon, the warship has a distinctive "star" shape.

They are equipped with a superior [[FTL|jump system]] and no visible means of [[sublight propulsion]], lacking any engine pods or nacelles, but remain capable of chasing down a battlestar ([[Exodus, Part II]]). They can rotate their upper and lower halves into a tandem-Y configuration for entry into a planetary atmosphere ([[The Plan]]).

Basestars operate a fleet of small fighters, known as [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Raiders]], and are capable of deploying hundreds of these ships simultaneously (see [[#Related Imagery|Related Imagery]]). The enormous number of Raiders serves as a basestar's primary defense system.

Like the Raiders, the basestars are partially organic, which is particularly evident in their landing bays ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]). When severely damaged, they can sustain large, fleshy [[:image:Basestar fleshy wound.jpg|"wounds"]] ([[Faith]]). Moreover, [[Natalie]] mentions that their damaged baseship can heal itself ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]).

The baseships possess several conventional rooms and hallways, which are sleek but generally bland. Lighting plays a large role in the aesthetics and some rooms are furnished with clearly human objects, such as beds and couches. Humanoid Cylons [[Projection|project different surroundings]] to navigate ship corridors more easily, and to provide them with an individually pleasing environment (such as a lush forest). Data and other functions (such as analyzing visual information) are handled within a liquid computer interface that resembles a stream of water flowing over a luminous glass surface. Cylons can [[Data-font|interact with the main computer by placing their hands in these basins]] ([[Torn]]).

===Command and Control===

A basestar is operated by many [[humanoid Cylon]]s. Up to [[Torn|all seven models]] of them issue commands for the basestar from a central command and control center. Consensus amongst models is the typical procedure, as such the process of deliberation and voting on decisions may cause the basestar to react more slowly than a battlestar's command and control in a [[CIC]].

A basestar's functions are managed by a partially humanoid Cylon incorporated into the ship, known as a [[Hybrid]]. The Hybrid, for all respects of identity and control, ''is'' the basestar. The ship is an extension of her body and she is the ship's mind. The Hybrid, despite its humanoid appearance, is not a considered a fellow humanoid Cylon and lacks voting power as other agents have in Cylon affairs.

A basestar has a [[datastream]], or computer network, which interfaces with the Hybrid and all aspects of the basestar's operation.

Basestar-launched nuclear strikes against Colonial ships are usually carried out before Raider deployment. One example of a Cylon nuclear attack involved three Cylon basestars that [[Battle of the Binary Star System|ambush]] the battlestar ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''. This tactic, along with the massive numbers of Raiders that a basestar can unleash, suggest a reliance on overwhelming force to destroy a foe. It is probable that basestars use nuclear weapons to destroy the bulk of the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet]] (using their [[CNP]] back-doors to compromise their defenses first) in the opening wave of their [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|destruction of the Colonies]].

After the Colonial commanders draw away their Raider wings, [[Battle of the Resurrection Ship|two basestars are torn apart]] by the kinetic guns of the battlestars ''Pegasus'' and ''Galactica'' in a joint mission to destroy a Cylon [[Resurrection Ship]]. It would seem that that basestars rely heavily on their Raiders for close-range gun defense. Since a basestar does not appear to have point-defense batteries, or heavy armoring<ref>Intelligence Debrief: Cylon Basestar, "Battlestar Galactica: The Official Magazine", June/July 2006, page 57.</ref>, it seems quite vulnerable to battlestars in close-range combat when fighter support is not prominent ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]). From this, it can be theorized that basestars are designed primarily as carriers for the massive fleet of Raiders they carry, rather than as a front-line main battleship. Their reliance on long-distance attacks with missiles and their complement of Raiders, as well as their overall fragility seem to support this.

*As shown in The Plan, Basestars seem to be capable of atmospheric flight. The spokes turn on their axis and align so that the basestar, if viewed from the top, would be seen as a giant "Y". This realignment seems necessary for the Basestar to enter the atmosphere of a planet.

The basestars in service during the 12-year Cylon War consisted of two flattened cones connected at the center by a thick pylon, giving them a conical saucer-like appearance<ref>This basestar design seen in the [[Miniseries]] and later in "[[Razor]]" is an obvious homage to the [[Basestar (TOS)|basestar]] seen in the [[Original Series]]. However, its weaponry (if not also its [[Imperious Leader|command structure]]) is markedly different than its 1978 counterpart per the "realistic" goals of [[Ron Moore]]'s essay on [[Naturalistic science fiction]] in ''Battlestar''.</ref> ([[Razor Flashbacks]]).

Much like its modern counterpart, this model utilized chemically-propelled missiles (with both nuclear and standard warheads) as the main form of offensive weaponry. Raiders were deployed from access points (totaling 8 in number) throughout a basestar's hull to provide defense.

During [[Operation Raptor Talon]], the battlestar ''[[Columbia (RDM)|Columbia]]'' was destroyed by basestar missiles and Raider attacks as ''[[Galactica]]'' and another unnamed battlestar pressed their assaults.

The origins of the initial basestars are unclear. However, as [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons were a creation of man]] in the early days before the war, it is probable that man himself (through the efforts of various [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|colonies]]) designed the various ships and weapons used by the Cylons for the use in intra-colonial wars prior to the [[Articles of Colonization]].

A model of this basestar design is displayed over 40 years later on ''Galactica'', as part of its [[Galactica Museum|planned museum]] ([[Miniseries, Night 1]]).

Towards the end of the first Cylon War, the Cylons built a prototype basestar that had roughly the same shape as the modern basestar. The [[First Hybrid|first hybrids]] were developed for use with this model.

It is explained by [[Sharon Agathon|Athena]] that a group of Centurions calling themselves [[Guardians]] fractured from the Cylon majority with such a basestar. The belief is that they escaped to the far reaches of space to avoid being shut-down in favor of their modernized, non-sentient [[Cylon Centurion|successors]] ([[Razor]]). The only basestar of this type known to exist was destroyed by Colonial forces shortly after its discovery.

This basestar belongs to the rebel Cylon faction comprising of all [[Number Two|Two]], [[Number Six|Six]] and [[Number Eight|Eight]] models apart from [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]], as well as the last remaining [[Number Three|Three]] copy later on. The basestar becomes seriously damaged after the other three models wanted them wiped out and destroyed all but one basestar, which has become refuge to the surviving Twos, Sixes and Eights ([[The Ties That Bind]]).

The basestar is later found by the ''[[Demetrius]]'' and her crew, who have been searching for [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]], and they send the basestar to [[The Fleet (RDM)|the fleet]], where they form an unsteady alliance to destroy the [[Resurrection Hub]], and hence lose the Cylons' ability to [[resurrection|resurrect]]. However, the basestar becomes the only ship to make it there, after the [[Hybrid]] jumps without the fleet, but later manages to destroy the Hub with the help of the Humans in the ship, as well as retreive the last Three copy ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]], [[The Hub]]).

After returning to the fleet in a succesfully mission, they join the fleet to Earth, only to find it in ruins. The basestar is later invited to join the fleet to find a new home afterwards ([[Sometimes a Great Notion]]).

It has since joined the fleet completly, even getting it's own representation in the new Quorum of Ship's Captians and being slated to act as the new flagship under Admiral Adama's command once ''Galactica'' is scrapped for parts (the Cylons offered that to Admiral Adama).
