Harbinger of Doom?
Sci Fi Channel has a dubious reputation when it comes to its own original series (note Farscape). Having only 13 episodes (which reflects season 1's initial allotment) may be for a number of factors, such as "less is more," for cost issues, or even committment. It's not that Sci Fi hasn't given the show enough advertising--far from it, IMO. I don't think it's got the best time slot, however. Friday was just fine, when Stargate fed its audience. Today, BSG holds well in ratings given the lack of a feeder show (A good one would be to have "Heroes" encore show play instead of "The Dresden Files," which seems to be an overused cop/sureality show a'la X-Files anyway). But it could and should do better. There's also the matter of the balance of action to character event shows, where this season isn't good in the space fighting that we all enjoy, and the overall mood; the audience really needs a pick-me-up show. The whole show needs to be dramatic, not depressing. --Spencerian 11:46, 15 February 2007 (CST)
:If they can write 13 episodes as tightly as they did the first season, then it'll be a good thing. As involved as RDM and Eick are involved in all stages of the process, I'd imagine it's considerably easier to wrap your (their) head around, top to bottom, thirteen rather than twenty episodes. Also, the way I read some of the announcements the thirteen is a floor (that potentially they could pick up more if the ratings are favorable). My other reaction to seeing 13 episodes was that Season 5 is likely in the bag, if only to reach that magical (and to me, mysterious) tipping point for syndication. --Steelviper 12:04, 15 February 2007 (CST)

:The moment they increase the action for the sake of ratings is the moment the show deserves to die. I like the action scenes alright, but only if they supplement a good episode and don't distract from more important things. The balance is fine at the moment, as there have been some very large action and story episodes. I also watch the show because of the deep character stuff, so anything of that is very welcome here.
:I'm cautiously optimistic. Maybe they'll still increase there order. Maybe there'll be further 13 episode seasons. Who knows. Sure, things could be better, but I'll wait and see, before I join any of the typical and tiresome interweb pessimism. A 13 episode order has its advantages too and it's standard on cable anyways. --Serenity 12:07, 15 February 2007 (CST)

:I think a 13-episode season will mean fewer fillers, which should result in fewer 'bad' episodes. I'm not saying all fillers are bad episodes (I liked Litmus, Collaborators, Unfinished Business and Taking a Break, to name a few), but bad episodes do tend to be fillers. Also, 13 seems to be the magic number: episodes 214 and 314 (Black Market and The Woman King) were the worst eps to date, IMO. As in Season 2, Season 3 seems to have a couple of consecutive fillers around eps 14-16, which is usually the least interesting part of a season. A 13-episode season is less likely to have this caveat and might actually be better, unless perhaps they 'linked' those three fillers (eps 14-16), i.e. make them about a cross-episode story.
:Actually, the 13 eps instead of 20 isn't my biggest problem. It's that we have to wait for NINE FRAKKING MONTHS! --Catrope 14:37, 15 February 2007 (CST)
::What goes for cows and countesses apparently goes for the production team as well. Hopefully that means that there won't have to be a mid-season break, and that they'll have plenty of time to execute (or be well rested). --Steelviper 15:08, 15 February 2007 (CST)
Season 4 in March now
So apparently Season 4 is now going to premiere in March, not April, according to the Season 4 teaser trailer, which aired tonight after Razor. It's a really good trailer, but I can't find it anywhere, not on Scifi Pulse, or on Youtube, so you're just going to have to take my word for it now. I did find one review of razor online in which the writer comments on the March date, and additionally, peoples blogs are beginning to buzz about it. However, this is far from a good link, and if anyone can find anything better, I would encourage that person to replace the link I provided in the article. I just wanted to say something about it in the article right away. --OrionFour 03:36, 25 November 2007 (CST)
:Oh somebody already updated it. Well yeah there you go, it's gonna be in March now. Hopefully something will come out in a newspaper tomorrow about the change, they like to cover stuff like that sometimes. --OrionFour 03:39, 25 November 2007 (CST)
:Interesting development... Still, why then release the season 3 DVD set one full month after the premiere? Maddening. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki &mdash; New 10:55, 25 November 2007 (CST)
::Seriously, why even release the DVD way the frak out in April anyways, shouldn't it be released now, before Christmas? They already got the R4's being sold, so how much harder would it be to package a bunch of R1's? I've heard the theory about wanting to give Razor more time on the shelves, but I don't buy it, since Season 3 would turn much more profit than Razor over the holidays. --OrionFour 13:35, 30 November 2007 (CST)
:::Actually, there are quite a few releases coming out December... the 1980 dvd, the Season 1 HD-DVD set, and Razor. That's a lot, even by Universal Home Entertainment's standards. Plus you have to consider that the R2 and R4 sets pretty much suck, according to what I've read, and they don't have any special features whatsoever. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Sanctuary Wiki &mdash; New 14:03, 30 November 2007 (CST)
::::Ah ok, well that makes more sense. I guess it's also not entirely uncommon for the BSG DVD's to come out a long time after the last episode, although S3 is a record. So I can still complain about it ;) --OrionFour 23:55, 1 December 2007 (CST)
Analysis re. Adama's book reading
I noticed there was a comment on the Analysis section about Adama reciting the passage, even though he said they were to the part he hadn't read before. Actually, he states that they are getting to the part he hasn't passed before, so they hadn't actually reached it yet, so if anything, these would be the parts he would remember the most, since it would be where he always stops after.

If anything, it seems like some double-symbolism could be read in to the fact that he would always stop reading after that particular passage...
Has anyone seen Laird lately? I wonder if Adama was merciful to let him and other conscripts leave the service when New Caprica was found and not reactivate them afterwards. Or at least commission him as an officer if his education level allows (which is probable). I could also see Laird collaborating as a New Caprica Police officer during the occupation Rocky8311 22:17, 17 December 2006 (CST)

"Pegasus" leaves it somewhat open if his wife was killed, but I think "Razor" heavily implies this with his reaction shots about the dead civilians. I think the woman the camera focuses on at the end is his wife. The camera pans from Laird to her. That's also the one Shaw shoots, so maybe that's why the camera is on her...or both.

On another note, "Razor" doesn't actually establish much new about him, aside from him being the leader of the protesters. So we can probably do without a separate page here. --Serenity 08:11, 8 November 2007 (CST)

Judging by the evidence in Razor, It seems that the woman killed was not Laird's wife. Prior to the shooting, she is shown being comforted by another man in the crowd who also lays a hand on the young girl assumed to be her daughter. This same man is shown acting horrified and reaching out towards her as she and her daughter are pulled from the crowd by Marines. Based on that, I'd say that Laird's shock was directed more towards the fact that it was the Colonial Military, not the Cylons who just shot those people, rather than it being his wife that was just executed. == Surviour Count ==

How are we qualifiying the count as going up?

Caprica Six has an unborn baby, which is obviously debatable in terms of counting as a surviour because the baby's parents are both Cylons and it isn't even born, but I digress as that isn't my point.

Either way, a Raptor poliot has been confirmed dead and a Viper pilot has been persumed dead, which at worst cancels the unborn baby in terms of surviours.
Lance the Cat is not dead
When Romo discovers Lee Adama is the only candidate for the President he is talking to his cat, Lance. He leaves to go confront Lee and he says to the cat, "Lance, defense rests. Come on." In the next scene he claiming Lance was dead for weeks.

If this is true it fits Romo's pattern of manipulation. He used the same pattern during the trial of Balter (the use of the cane). The best explanation is that Romo is using the cat to manipulate Lee.

: The cat is dead, Jim. Lee sees the body of it in the duffel bag. Also, there are several indicators to all of this in the episode; the fact that no one else but Romo sees the pet, Lee almost tripping over an overturned, empty dish... not to mention Lampkin's general depression and ennui. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 03:43, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
There is another possible explanation for Caprica-Six's pregnancy, maybe the love theory is correct, perhaps Cylon have some sort of biological failsafe to prevent them from breeding in the wrong circumstances. -- Gordon Ecker 02:57, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

: Considering that this episode takes place during the time frame when the Cylons are out of resurrection range, there are two other possibilities. One, that the ability to resurrect is the cause of their inability to reproduce, and when Cylons are out of range (which they rarely choose to be), they can successfully reproduce biologically. Another, more basic explanation is that the Final Five were somehow intentionally separated from the seven because one from each group is necessary to reproduce, and whatever caused them to split and not speak of the Final Five did this intentionally.
I'm pretty sure it was "ID versus ego." That's how I heard it and it makes alot more sense. == Battlestar leaving the fleet undefended ==

The wiki states:
<blockquote>
Despite the fact that Galactica has left the Fleet before to engage combat, this episode marks the first time that the civilian Fleet is intentionally left without any defense. The only other time the Fleet was left without military aid was after Boomer's assassination attempt of William Adama, when Galactica accidentally jumped to different coordinates than the rest of the Fleet (Scattered).</blockquote>
Actually the Pegasus left the (residual) fleet undefended during the Battle of New Caprica. I added a note to this effect to the wiki, but someone edited it out. <small>—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gmusser (talk&nbsp;&bull;&nbsp;contribs).</small>
:Pegasus left its entire air wing behind to guard the residual fleet, hence the need for suicidal tactics at the Battle of New Caprica. --Peter Farago 18:42, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
Tigh and Adama assume that Tigh is the father, but is that necessarily so? --SSH 16:45, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
:I think we had this discussion before, but the server reset deleted it. Basically, all indications are yes. Caprica-Six has been in the holding cell for months (so was not pregnant before). Access to her was limited (consider Romo in Crossroads, Part I), and even fewer people would have had the authority to turn the cameras off. Although it's a common cliché in fiction for the father not to be who you think it is, such a revelation in this case would be a large, and rather unnecessary stretch IMO.
Missing Pilots.
This article states that the two missing pilots were most likely lost in a scene that was filmed but cut. I however, thought that Starbuck was referring to the two vipers shown when scouting Sector Delta 9. This would make sense, as the scene occurs after the discovery of Sandman's viper and the additional Mark II, and, while the fates of Galactica's other pilots aboard the Rebel Baseship are still unknown, the crew has tangible proof of two deceased or at least MIA pilots from this evidence. Thoughts? Pentagonal Deception 20:26, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

:That doesn't really make sense with the dialogue in the scene:
::Adama: Have the Raptors and the civilian ships begin the search from Phantom's last known position...Is that a problem?
::Thrace: Sir, respectfully... I've already got two missing pilots and hardly enough birds left to protect this Fleet. Now you're asking me to send the remainder of the Raptors out on a blind search, looking for a ship that very well may have been destroyed.

:First, Adama orders her to continue searching from the location of a specific pilot. He wouldn't say this if he were talking about the battle site. Second, they appear to be talking about a search party, which means Raptors. Third, the pilots on the rebel baseship are already missing; all of them. They appear to be talking about additional missing people, specifically about people directly under Thrace's command at that point. Sure, far from definite, but that's the most likely scenario IMHO. -- Serenity 18:48, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

:Perhaps, but it was my opinion that Phantom was code for the Rebel Baseship, not a specific pilot's callsign. The dialogue would support this, as Kara's point of contention is that Adama is asking her to risk additional pilots to search for a ship that very well may already be destroyed. Therefore, Adama is ordering Thrace to begin searching starting from their last known, most likely Sector Delta 9. Thrace is reluctant to comply, as the crew already has definite word of two pilots separated from their birds, and this would obviously be detrimental to moral, most likely more so than the other pilots aboard the baseship, whose fates are not yet certain. I don't see the search party connection from the dialogue quoted. Yes, they are talking about sending out the additional Raptors, however, there is nothing in the quote to suggest that it is another party that was lost. I can see how this issue is so vague, there were a lot of unexplained and ambiguous issues in the dialogue of SQN. Guess we'll have to wait for the season 4 DVD or the podcast to know for sure.Pentagonal Deception 19:06, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Nicky Cylon or Human
I wonder if this episode shows how the story hits on pure fiction rather than sci-fi with the case of Nicky being a cylon. Nicky is a boy, which would mean there has to be a Y chromosome. If Tyrol is truly a Cylon, then Cally could only have a female child. They stated earlier in the series that the skinjobs could not reproduce without human donors. Reading the sci-fi forums and original series (way back to deception to the Cylons/Baltar by Specter, and how the Beings of Light 'try' not to interfere) may provide a spoiler to what is to come next from this episode if it stays on the sci-fi side. If it goes fiction, maybe it be worth noting what made Nicky a boy and a cylon before someone yells "that's not sci-fi!" (The Science Note: women can reproduce women without men in genetic experiments of fertilization, but women do not carry/make the Y chromosome to reproduce a male.) :They did not state anything about human donors. They stated that Cylons could not reproduce with each other, and could not reproduce with humans unless there was love. == Inappropriate use of Point of Order? ==

According to Robert's Rules of Order, a Point of Order is raised if the rules of order have apparently been broken. In this case, rules don't seem to have been broken, and Lee is really just interrupting to bring up his own issues (which could be construed as out of order). The closest motion that I could find is a Request for Any Other Privilege, which he would then use to try to bring up a more pressing issue, but this is still an iffy case. Ctetc2007 10:56, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
:Standing-up at the table is a request to yield. The one who has the floor is the one who can decide to yield the floor. If Lee continued without the floor being yielded to him, then it would be out of order. Notice that Lee does ask for the floor to yield. The point of order is to get the answer to yield the floor and to quiet everybody else that does not have the floor. Roslin immediately tabled the issue that Lee brought up. Lee sits down, and the floor is returned. He could have requested an immediate call to vote to handle the issue, but typically it would have to be by some disastrous or emergency situation to call to vote on non-agenda items. == Monitoring Launch Tubes ==

The reason nobody notices the launch tubes being used is probably due to the Galactica's lack of automation. There's no central computer to track these things, and the over-worked state of Galactica's repair crew probably means that the logs that would track these things (assuming there's a counter at all) aren't being kept properly.

Of course, this doesn't explain why there wouldn't be guards.
: This might be indeed a flaw by design, but one that they should have fixed after the first Cylon war. The Cylons boarded ships via airlocks and launch tubes and used them as weapon to vent the crew out of the ship. In such a situation the security team etc. should know where to look for the enemy. --Akagi 10:54, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

:Well, would YOU want to guard the launch tubes? 99% of the time you'd just be standing there in an empty control room (at least at night), not to mention the fact that since there are quite a few launch tubes, you'd be tying up a significant number of personnel doing so. It seems like it'd be easier in terms of manpower to have guards somewhere in the hangar deck (potentially in intersection of the hangar deck(s) and the interior of the ship). By guarding the choke points, you'd be covered against somebody coming from any of the launch tubes, and from the landing bay openings as well. Though obviously the biggest reason the launch tubes are untended are for dramatic purposes. --Steelviper 13:48, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
::Nobody said there had to be humans watching the launch tubes, you'd be 'watching' them electronically, just like building security monitors elevator movements. I myself have decided to suspend disbelief on this particular issue. I find it fairly unbelievable that there isn't an automated system that would at least inform CIC that a "launch" had taken place. == Question about Nebula effects on the Callster ==

So this question was added to the questions section: Why did reaching the Ionian Nebula have such a negative effect on Cally (lack of sleep, depression)?

The thing about this question is that it had nothing to do (directly) with the Ionian Nebula affecting Cally negatively... Galen Tyrol's the one that's been causing some of the problems since their marriage, as we've seen in "A Day in the Life", although the root problem is that they're both pretty incompatible, which came to a head pretty much after the revelation in "Crossroads, Part II".

I'm bringing this up here because I removed the question earlier, but it was re-added, and instead of sparking an edit where the entire questions section was blanked (as was the case after I removed the question the first time), I figure I'd discuss it here first... -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 03:06, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Another constellation?
I think I've found another constellation, but I'm not sure how right I am and how appropriate it may be considering the repeats of Orion in later episodes.

When it was first mentioned that Orion may be in Cally's look out the window, I went to check it, but couldn't see Orion. However, around about where the reflection of Cally's cheek is, there is a group of stars I believe may be Crux (also known as the Southern Cross, an important navigational constellation in the southern hemisphere). To the left of the cross (up when looking at the screen) are two bright stars, which may be the Pointers.

But there's a couple of problems. First is the later reappearance of Orion as a point of reference. Second is that the Pointers are too close together, but that issue can be circumvented by having The Fleet in a position where most of the stars line up but the Pointers appear closer together.

Am I on to something, or am I reading too much into the random dot patterns normally used for starfields ? Saberwyn 10:47, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Lock?
Considering on this side of the Atlantic we get the episode 3 days before the US does, what is the procedure going to be for locking this article (and the rest of 4.0)? OTW 21:12, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
:Lock it a day before the UK airing I guess. -- Serenity 21:13, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
::And keep it locked for 4 days? That would be a very long time to have an article locked. OTW 22:41, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
:::Mhh, yeah, that is a problem. We could unlock it until the US airing and then lock it again. So there are 2-3 days to edit it. -- Serenity 22:47, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

I feel that it'll be determined on a case-by-case basis... If the article is sufficiently developed by Friday, we may just leave it unlocked and see how the server copes.

:Children are born within the Fleet. There are a couple of cases where the count just goes up or deaths are offset. In fact it probably doesn't happen often enough. -- Serenity 19:48, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
::"In universe" the teaser ends only a few hours after Guess What's Coming to Dinner? does, so its likely that the "battle of the resurrection hub" hadn't concluded by that point. It's interesting to note they didn't subtract all the abductees though. My guess is that the The Hub will be chronologically concurrent with Sine Qua Non, making our survivor count next week a little confusing. OTW 12:45, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Fundamental difference?

== Incorrect quote ==
In re "Lampkin: Quandary is, one doesn't generally get the chance to wield political power without the ambition to actively seek it. That same ambition often compromises the unselfish motives that began the quest. In other words, in a battle of it versus ego, that ego rarely wins."

I'm pretty sure it was "ID versus ego." That's how I heard it and it makes alot more sense. Lampkin was talking about repressed desiers ( ID ) beating out our unselfish motives (ego). "What exactly happened to the rebel baseship and the Resurrection Hub? Did the rebels and Colonials escape when/if their baseship was destroyed?"

Seems its difficult to decide if it is conclusive that the rebel basestar was destroyed or not. IMO I'd go for "if", because although it looks likely, it's not certain (Adama still has hope for one). They'd probably have to have destroyed one of Cavil's basestars if they were to eliminate the Hub. OTW 17:02, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
:Yeah, now that you say it, that seems to be correct. Sorry. To me it initially seemed like the basestar is destroyed for sure. Which is what Tigh thinks. But Adama believes that they survived. So there is some uncertainty. -- Serenity 17:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
The article assumes that Romo held Lee at gunpoint in Colonial One. :Could be either. Lampkin is alone and then goes off to see Adama. But then he runs into Adama in the hallway. That could either mean that Adama simultaneously goes to see Lampkin (the reason for which isn't explained), or that the two run into each other on Colonial One. == Battlestar leaving the fleet undefended ==

The wiki states:
<blockquote>
== Missing Pilots. ==
