She tells him that Joseph will need organ meats and other nutritious foods when he comes out of it. Sam reluctantly agrees to buy the food, but insists that Evelyn keep close watch of Joseph.

Philomon claims that he is fine not having met Rachel yet, and that what she looks like does not matter. They talk a little about the benefits of more environmental exposure for the robot. Emmanuelle believes that Tamara, like everything else in New Cap City, is not real, and that she now believes that allowing Joseph to find her would be a worse option. Joseph is so lost in the search that he missed [[William_Adama|Willie]]'s [[Ink Day]] and is now addicted to [[amp]]. She asks Tamara for a suggestion on how to help him.
*At the [[Graystone Industries]] lab, Philomon tells Daniel about his plan to build a "psych profile" of the U-87's anomalies as a way of making copies of the MCP for mass production that preserve the original's abilities, a process that will take weeks. Daniel becomes furious, and Philomon relents after his job is threatened. The entire conversation is overheard by Zoe-A.

She then confronts him about the break-in and murders at the [[Vergis Corporation]] lab. Daniel does not deny it, instead answering only that "it's complicated." She quietly walks out of the house.

* The Six and human male that argued earlier are closest to a bulkhead door. With all her strength, she pushes the Colonial in front and to the door's edge as two other Colonials pull him in. She screams to close the door behind her and lock it.

Lee Adama struggles to convince the newly-elected Fleet Quorum that ''Galactica'' can be saved, but many councilors are worried about becoming dependent on the Cylons for military protection. Once the Galactica meets its inevitable demise, the basestar will be the logical choice for the new flagship. [[Number Six#Sonja|Sonja]] assures them that the Cylons will continue to respect William Adama's military authority when he transfers to the Basestar, along with the rest of Galactica's crew and their planes and munitions. Other representatives begin calling first dibs on certain parts of ''Galactica'', which will of course be stripped once its time is up. Laura Roslin's cancer is killing her, and she is now confined to bed in the ship's hospital. She gradually convinces Admiral Adama that he has to abandon Galactica and move everyone over to the Cylon Basestar. Ellen Tigh tries to convince Colonel Saul Tigh that Roslin is right, but he refuses: The decision is Adm. Adama's alone.

Karl Agathon's marriage to Sharon Valerii is falling apart, as she cannot overcome the loss of her child, Hera, or the knowledge that her husband had sexual intercourse with the Number Eight known as "Boomer". Trying to save his marriage, Helo tries to get Adm. Adama to approve the launching of a Raptor to find Hera. Adama has already permitted Sonja, the Cylon representative on the new Quorum, to secretly take a Heavy Raider to the Cylon homeworld, known as "[[the Colony]]". The Colony though has already been moved to a new location by Cavil prior to the [[Cylon Civil War]]; sending Helo out in a Raptor to look for it would be a suicide mission. Adama finally refuses to give permission, to which Helo appears devastated.

Gaius Baltar continues his religious broadcasts to the Fleet, and his latest message focuses on angels walking among humanity. Baltar encounters Caprica Six, who rejects his romantic overtures. She tells him she's changed and that he has not. Baltar breaks down over the loss of his former lover. Later, Kara Thrace meets Baltar while they are both in the ship's head. Kara tells him that she died on Earth, and discovered her own body there. She gives him her dog tag to analyze. He scrapes blood from the dog tag, and finds it came from a body which was already dead. When the ''Galactica'' crew, Cylons, and Baltar's believers meet on ''Galactica'''s flight deck to bury those who died in the hull breach, Baltar reveals what he discovered about Starbuck and calls her an angel. He preaches about eternal life, but Starbuck slaps him and the service breaks up. Later, Apollo meets with Starbuck and offers her his unconditional love and support. They part as friends. Starbuck puts a photo of herself on the memorial wall of the dead.

Aboard the stolen Raptor, Hera keeps crying for her mother, infuriating Boomer. Boomer almost sedates the child, but cannot bring herself to do so; they keep jumping toward their destination. In an attempt to calm Hera, Boomer reveals her "Cylon projection" dreamworld to Hera. Hera can see the world, too, and bonds with Boomer. Boomer begins to develop strong emotional ties to the child. When the two arrive at the "colony", a Cylon base on top of a small, rocky planetoid, Cavil takes Hera from Boomer and declares that soon she will have many playmates. The child weeps and calls out for Boomer, and Boomer also sheds copious tears unwilling to part from Hera.

After an emotional breakdown, Adm. Adama realizes the ship must be abandoned. He meets with Col. Tigh, who initially resists the evacuation order but gives in after a brief discussion. All civilians are to be removed over the next few days, arrangements are to be made to put the military personnel aboard the basestar, and ''Galactica'' is to be stripped for parts. Rather than let the ship break down, Adama intends to "send her off in style."

A Number Eight and Number Six have hooked [[Samuel Anders]] up to a [[Hybrid]] tank in a an attempt to help his brain reboot, but there is no apparent change. Kara Thrace goes to Anders' bedside alone, and decides to kill him rather than let him live in a vegetative state. But as she aims a gun at his head, Anders comes awake. He babbles like a Hybrid, but his ravings also indicate that he's aware of the threat to his life. With one hand, he subdues Starbuck and she drops the pistol. Anders continues to babble, but some of his rants indicate that he is reintegrating, perhaps even repairing, his mind. ''Galactica'''s power and temperature fluctuations were because Anders was connecting to the ship, as the Hybrid tank and the Cylon polymer used to repair the battlestar are giving him the power to interact with the ship's computers. Tigh deems this too dangerous to continue, as Anders might jump the ship. Anders is disconnected from the Hybrid tank, and he falls into a coma again.

A few days later, Starbuck meets with the comatose Anders. She brings Hera's drawing of the song (the song which helped awaken the Final Five in the episode "Crossroads", and about which further complications were revealed in the episode prior to this one, "Someone to Watch Over Me"), and states assertively, that together, they will discover what is going on. She reconnects him to the ship's power systems. He awakens again, and begins speaking in the unique phrases of a hybrid.

* The title comes from the book ''[[w:The Outermost House|The Outermost House]]'', by [[w:Henry Beston|Henry Beston]], where he chronicles his time spent living on an isolated beach in Cape Cod. == Analysis ==
*When [[Caprica-Six]] was at [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar's]] congregation he spoke to her about hearing about her living arrangement and offered a place to stay. From this it seems after the in utero death of [[Liam|Liam Tigh]], [[Saul Tigh]] and Caprica Six have broken up as a couple. As a side effect, Col. Tigh has reverted to his "us" and "them" attitude toward Cylons as a whole despite himself and his wife being Cylons including an increase of anti Cylon "racial" slurs.

*[[Chief Tyrol]] was no where to be seen in this episode. Even crewman [[Dealino]] gives a report to both [[Admiral Adama]] and [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]] of what the attitudes of the Cylons, particularly the [[Leoben]]s, thought as to how many jumps ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' had left in her. [[Bear McCreary]] reveals<ref>http://www.bearmccreary.com/blog/?p=1671</ref> there is an extended scene on the DVD which shows Chief Tyrol is being held in ''Galactica'''s brig for his part in [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer's]] escape.

*[[Hera Agathon|Hera]] demonstrates the power of [[projection]] to Boomer, to Boomer's surprise.
* It is possible that the opening shot of the episode is a projection of Hera's. If so, it is also possible that Hera's projections are prophetic in nature. She pushes the model of ''Galactica'' into a model of a basestar, which could hint at an eventual confrontation between ''Galactica'' and the Cylons.
*In sickbay, Adama and Roslin reminces about New Caprica and about the cabin they wanted to build but can't. This scene is in its own way similar to the scene in which Boomer and Tyrol shared a projection of the house they had intended to build on Picon. As humans, Adama and Roslin can only conjure up fond memories and regrets in their own mind's eyes. Both couples know that it is never to be, building their dream houses.

*Helo wanted Athena to say that she hated him because he saw it in her eyes. She almost did. In a close up of her lips her mouth parted slightly but then closed. This is most likely for him sleeping with Boomer, who subsequently took Hera. Athena probably understands that Helo couldn't prevent the kidnapping but she probably feels that he should had known that it was not Athena he was sleeping with. It is however conceivable she could blame him for the taking of Hera if she thinks that if he realized that it wasn't her he could had had Boomer captured even before she got near Hera.

*In the episode we saw what is essentially the [[The Colony|Cylon homeworld]]; at least the new one. [[Ellen Tigh]] explained in a meeting with Admiral Adama, Lee Adama, Tory Foster, Saul Tigh, and Kara Thrace where the Cylons (including the [[Final Five]]) were for the past 40 years: "I guess you can call it home. It's where we and the Centurions went after the [[Cylon War|First War]] once we convinced them to abandon their own experiments with evolution in exchange for [[Resurrection (RDM)|resurrection]] technology." In the show's timeline the Cylons moved The Colony from there to their present location five months ago just prior to the Cylon Civil War. It is an asteroid sized space station built with the same biological design principles like the [[Baseships]].

*Adama's heavy drinking, pill-popping and unprofessional behavior over the last few episodes seems to recall [[Romo Lampkin]]'s comment that "the soldier in him has had enough" in [[The Son Also Rises]].

Samuel was born into the Cylon Thirteenth Tribe on Earth over 2,000 years ago. He worked at a scientific research facility, and also composed [[The Music|a song]] which he played for his lover and for his fellow researchers, [[Saul Tigh]], [[Ellen Tigh]], [[Galen Tyrol]], and [[Tory Foster]]<ref>In his "[[Sometimes a Great Notion]]" podcast commentary, Ronald D. Moore explained that in the Battlestar universe Anders (not Bob Dylan) wrote the song, but acknowledged that they failed to adequatly get that point across to the audience.</ref>. Warned of a coming holocaust by [[Virtual beings#The Final Five's Virtual Beings|an image of a woman]] no one else could see, he worked with his four friends to recreate the [[Resurrection (RDM)|resurrection]] technology used by their ancestors. When the nuclear attack on Earth came, the five of them were downloaded into new bodies on a ship in orbit.

Backtracking the path their ancestors used to find Earth, the five rediscovered the [[Temple of Five|Temple of Hopes]] and found their way to the [[Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]] to warn the humans of the dangers of making robotic slaves, but arrived too late to prevent the [[First Cylon War]] because their vessel traveled at relativistic, subluminal speeds. They designed humanoid bodies for the [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Cylon Centurions]] in exchange for signing a cease fire with the humans, and gave resurrection technology to their humanoid Cylon "children". Their first creation, [[Number One]], turned against the five and killed them by asphyxiation, then [[Boxing|boxed]] their consciousnesses, later releasing them into the Twelve Colonies one by one to live through the [[Cylon Attack]] as humans in the hopes that they would agree with his ideologies after they were killed and resurrected again.

The background fabricated for Anders by Number One included being born on [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]] and attending [[Noyse Elementary School]]. He became a [[Pyramid]] player for the [[Caprica Buccaneers]] and was leading his team in high-altitude training in the mountains outside of [[Delphi]] when Caprica was attacked during the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon assault on the Colonies]]. The high-altitude shielded them from the blasts of the nuclear attacks and most of the radioactive fallout that followed. He and the Buccaneers become ad hoc resistance fighters from that point forward, raiding armories and collecting caches of weapons, [[anti-radiation medication]], ammunition and supplies in the hopes of surviving and defending themselves against the Cylons.

Anders was able to rally upwards of 100 people, mostly hikers and survivalists, to his resistance against the Cylons and from the former [[Delphi Union High School]] he was able to strike back at the Cylons for nine months. Unlike [[Karl Agathon]], the Caprica-based (and pregnant) [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon Valerii]] and [[Kara Thrace]], Anders seems to be focused more on surviving on Caprica than he is with leaving the planet.

Anders and his resistance members encounter Agathon and Thrace two months after the initial Cylon attack ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]). Anders's main focus for a time is keeping himself and his resistance movement alive long enough for Thrace to return to Caprica once again with reinforcements from ''Galactica'' and evacuate them. Before leaving, Thrace gives him her [[Identification tags|Fleet ID tags]] as a promise that she would come back for him. While waiting for rescue, Anders plans to locate and destroy as many Cylon hybrid-producing "farms" as possible ([[The Farm]]).

Anders and the resistance movement conduct acts of terrorism against the Cylons after they appropriate Delphi for their own. His aim was to scare the Cylons into believing there is no safe place for them and to kill them in the most gruesome way possible so they remember when they are reborn what it is like to die violently, like in an explosion ([[Downloaded]]).

Following the Cylons' re-appropriation of Delphi, Anders and his fighters continue their insurgency, and carry out a series of attacks on the Cylons, the most notable of which was the destruction of a café which kill roughly 40 Cylons. After planting the bomb in a garage, Anders is trapped with the bomb after defending it from a Centurion. Hiding behind a car on the other side of the garage, Anders is mostly protected from the blast but buried under rubble. Later found by [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] and [[Number Three]]. Anders is spared, as he would be a useful source of information. When [[Caprica-Six]] talks about genocide and God's love, Anders uses the opening to try and kill Number Three, but is stopped by Boomer. Three is more than willing to take revenge, but all are astonished when Caprica-Six kills Three. Heeding Six's orders to get out, Anders flees, still puzzled by what had transpired (Downloaded).

== Rescue and Joining the Fleet ==

Anders survives an assault by the Cylons at the resistance's headquarters -- the same morning that the Caprica [[SAR]] team lands nearby. The Cylons assaulted the remnants of the Resistance as they head for the Raptors ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]), forcing them to go to higher ground. After the Cylons stop attacking them, Thrace (leading the rescue team) fears the worst. Anders and Thrace promise to kill each other so that the Cylons would be unable to put them in one of their [[farms]]. Miraculously, a [[Cavil|mysterious man]] appears to tell the team that the Cylons have left the Colonies.

Thrace and Anders's relationship picks up where it left off, forcing a rift to occur between Thrace and [[Lee Adama]].

A year later, now married to Thrace on [[New Caprica]], Anders develops [[Wikipedia:pneumonia|pneumonia]], forcing Thrace to beg Lee Adama to release some [[antibiotics]] reserved for ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''' pilots. After the Cylons occupy New Caprica, Anders is visited by a copy of [[Leoben Conoy]] who inquires on Kara Thrace's whereabouts ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). Since the Cylons had forced ''Pegasus'' and the defense fleet away from New Caprica, the antibiotics are no longer avaliable to help Anders.

Anders recovers from his sickness and becomes a leader of the [[New Caprica Resistance]], along with [[Saul Tigh]] and [[Galen Tyrol]]. Thrace was taken from him sometime after the occupation, and he is unsure if she is still alive ([[Occupation]]).

Four months into the occupation, contact is made with a Raptor and a rescue plan is put in motion. Anders meets ''Galactica'''s liaison officer [[Sharon Agathon]] in [[Breeders Canyon]], and the group is ambushed by Cylon Centurions ([[Precipice]]). After the Centurions are neutralized, a map is found on a dead [[Humanoid Cylon|'skinjob']] and Anders realizes that the map is the one given to [[Ellen Tigh]] to destroy in a heating fire. Tigh is then suspected of collaborating with the Cylons.

Later, Anders is charged by Laura Roslin with protecting [[Maya]] and the Cylon-human hybrid baby [[Hera Agathon|Hera]] ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

Anders then tells [[Saul Tigh]] about his [[Ellen Tigh|wife]]'s betrayal. He tells Tigh that if he doesn't "take care" of the problem, someone else will. After ''Galactica'' jumps into orbit, Anders and a group of resistance fighters set off multiple bombs around [[New Caprica City]]. They then retrieve a cache of weapons hidden under the Pyramid court in order storm the [[New Caprica Detention Center|detention center]] and free the humans imprisoned within. Inside the detention center, Anders and a team of Marines find an unconscious Kara Thrace in her apartment style prison cell. Anders begins to carry Thrace out of the center but is interrupted after Thrace regains consciousness and runs back to retrieve her daughter, [[Kacey Brynn]]. Anders finds Thrace and Kacey back at the apartment, and leads both out of the building ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

Shortly following the Fleet's abandonment of New Caprica, Anders is brought into the [[The Circle|Circle]], a secret council assembled by President [[Tom Zarek]] for the purpose of judging and executing those who had collaborated with the Cylons during the occupation. Anders soon becomes uncomfortable with the Circle's actions and leaves the group. Thrace accepts the Circle's invitation to replace Anders, an act her husband sees as a personal betrayal. He hands back Thrace's ID tag, saying he doesn't want it anymore. Thrace and Anders are still husband and wife, but the combination of Thrace's joining the Circle and her feelings for Lee Adama has heavily strains their marriage. He eventually moves off ''Galactica'' to the ''[[Salpica]]'' ([[Unfinished Business (Extended Version)]]), which limits their contact to occasional visits per shuttle or participation in critical missions ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Rapture]]").

The death of his wife ([[Maelstrom]]) weighs heavily on Anders. Two weeks later he is found drunk on the hangar deck, standing atop of a Viper and playing with a [[cubit]]. When Lee Adama is tries to get Anders to come down, he slips, falls and breaks one of his legs. Later, Anders joins Adama at the [[memorial wall]] where Adama has put up Kara Thrace's picture ([[The Son Also Rises]]). Shortly after this, Anders decides to follow in his wife's footsteps by obtaining a commission and joining the Fleet as a [[nugget|pilot trainee]] ([[Crossroads, Part I]]), initially flying Raptors before transitioning to Vipers.

== Revelation ==

Not long after he begins a relationship with [[Tory Foster]], he realizes that the pair of them are experiencing [[The Music|hearing something unusual]]. Later on, he discovers that Tyrol hears the strange sounds as well, but does not get the opportunity to discuss it with him. When Anders, along with Tyrol, Foster and Saul Tigh find themselves drawn to a room shortly after the Fleet arrives at the [[Ionian nebula]], they instinctively realized that they are four of the [[Final Five]] Cylons. However, both he and Tigh agree that their lives up until that point were not in vain, and the four wordlessly agree to continue their allegiance to the Colonies ([[Crossroads, Part II]]).

He participates in the [[Battle of the Ionian Nebula]], finding himself face to face with a Cylon [[Raider (RDM)|Raider]] that he fails to destroy because his weapon safeties are enabled. The fortuitous act results in the Raider scanning Anders, whose eye flickers red. The Raider determines that he is a Cylon and as a result the Raiders abruptly abort their attack on the Fleet, forcing the whole Cylon fleet to retreat. After the battle, he recalls his experience with the Cylon Raider to the others, and wonders whether he just made a "nugget mistake" or if he was physically incapable of firing. Anders, along with the others, agree to kill themselves before they betray the humans ([[He That Believeth In Me]]).

Anders joins the ''[[Demetrius]]'''s crew on its mission to find [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]]. Three weeks into the mission, he questions Thrace's command style, forcing her to open up more about her mission with her crew ([[The Ties That Bind]]). A week later they encounter a damaged Heavy Raider with [[Number Two|a copy of Leoben Conoy]] aboard. Thrace allows him aboard against the crew's wishes, because she wants his help in finding Earth. When Anders sees how physically close the two are, he attacks him until Marines separate them. Later, Anders asks Conoy what he wants from Thrace. Conoy replies that he seeks to understand Thrace's [[The Destiny|unexplained destiny]], which Anders doesn't consider good enough. Conoy says otherwise and that Anders might have his own destiny, beyond his relatively inconsequential life as a professional Pyramid player ([[The Road Less Traveled]]).

During the mutiny aboard the ''Demetrius'' Anders sides with Thrace, going as far as to shoot [[Felix Gaeta]] in the knee to prevent him from jumping back to ''Galactica''. After accompanying Thrace to a disabled Cylon [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]], Anders involves himself in an execution of a [[Number Six]] model who had moments before murdered [[Jean Barolay]]. The idea of [[Natalie]] assisting to pull the trigger on another of her models disturbs him. Later into the mission, however, he consoles a dying [[Number Eight]] when [[Sharon Agathon]] fails to. He then becomes visibly worried when Thrace, Natalie and Sharon deduce that the [[Final Five]] have come from and know the way back to Earth, and propose a resurrection of the [[Number Three]] model to reveal the Five's identities ([[Faith]]). Back on ''Galactica'', Anders is distraught over the loss of Gaeta's leg, talking of how Gaeta [[Gaeta's Lament|sings]] all the time to cope with his pain, but can't bring himself to talk to Gaeta about it ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]).

During a confrontation with their erstwhile Cylon allies — now lead by the unboxed [[Number Three (Downloaded copy)|D'Anna Biers]] — interim President Lee Adama forcefully persuades Colonel Tigh to give up the identities of the other Final Five aboard ''Galactica'', the safety of the Fleet hanging on it. Anders is arrested along with Tyrol, and they join Tigh in the launch tube airlock, under threat of being spaced in the showdown. Just as Adama is about to follow through on his threat, Thrace averts the execution with news that the three Cylons have given them the way to [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]]. Anders and his fellow Cylons unexpectedly receive a full amnesty by President Adama, and is part of the landing party that finds Earth in a post-apocalyptic state ([[Revelations]]).

On the devastated Earth, Anders discovers a guitar neck. Handling it, he remembers performing "[[The Music|All Along the Watchtower]]" for his lover, as well as his other friends ([[Sometimes a Great Notion]]).

When [[Felix Gaeta]] and [[Tom Zarek]] enact a [[Gaeta's Mutiny|coup]] to overthrow the fleet's [[William Adama|military]] and [[Laura Roslin|civilian]] leadership, Anders is abducted by his former wingman [[Diana Seelix]] and several co-conspirators and taken to the specially designed Cylon holding cell to be held as a hostage ([[The Oath]]). During a rescue attempt staged by [[Lee Adama]] and [[Kara Thrace]], Anders suffers a bullet wound to the back of the neck<ref>This injury was written into the show after Michael Trucco was involved in a near-fatal car accident during the halt in production observed during the 2007 writers strike. The accident left Trucco with a prominent scar stretching the entire length of the back of his neck.</ref> and has to be carried to sickbay by Thrace and [[Romo Lampkin]] ([[Blood on the Scales]]).

The bullet entered his head, but it also unlocked his blocked Cylon memories of his past. Between having a seizure and being preped for brain surgery, he explains some of what he learns from his memories, elaborating on the backstory of the Final Five and their betrayal by Number One. Before Anders can explain any more, he is taken to surgey to get the bullet removed so that he does not suffer another seizure and die of a brain hemmorhage. He doesn't want to do it, as he may lose his restored memories, but Kara makes him go. The bullet is safely removed, but Anders doesn't wake up as soon as expected so an EEG is run on him. It is discovered he has almost no brain activity for some unknown reason & his survival is unclear as the episode ends. ([[No Exit]]).
==Attitudes toward humans==
Despite his revelation to himself as a Cylon and his acceptance of it and the beating he endured during the mutiny, he seems to have remained loyal to the humans. After his discovery of his Cylon nature but before he recovered his first hand memories of his life before he was killed by Cavil and had his memories fabricated, he has displayed no hostility to them as a whole and in fact seems to be understanding of their point of view. This is characteristic of his sense of justice even when he was a Resistance fighter when he quickly accepted the Cylon Caprica Sharon, the future [[Athena]], as genuinely fighting on the human's side. After the Exodus from [[New Caprica]] he did participate in the secret trials and executions of those thought to be collaborators but he soon lost his taste for revenge and decline to participate any longer. It is not known if he has ever uttered a statement that could be construed as anti-human. Indeed, just before beaten by mutinous crewmen that [[Diana Seelix]] had arranged to ambush him, he was apologetic for any misunderstanding of a romantic nature between them. ([[The Oath]]) Now that he has recovered his first hand memories of his previous life on Earth and since then, it is not known what would be his attitude toward the humans if he recovers from his vegetative state, but given his and the other Final Five's efforts to halt the Cylon attack on the Colonies during the first Cylon War and describing the genocidal Cavil's morality as twisted ([[No Exit]]) it seems to be favorable.

==Notes==
*"Ander" is derived from a Greek term meaning "Man" (a well known example would be that "Anderson" means "Son of Andrew/Andreas/etc", the name being a descendant of Greek andreios ‘manly’, from aner ‘man’, ‘male’, genitive andros). Fitting, given that Anders is leading the last free humans alive on Caprica in a resistance against the Cylons: it's literally a fight of "Man" versus Machines. The revelation of Anders as a Cylon makes this ironic.

*Philip K. Dick's 1968 novel ''Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?'' also has a character named Anders. Like Sam, he was a machine who imitated humans almost perfectly. The PKD character was discovered and "retired" by human authorities, much like what almost happened to Sam in [[Revelations]] and [[The Oath]].

*The tattoo that Anders has on his right arm in Seasons 3 and 4 is his "wedding band". He got it after he married [[Kara Thrace]], who also has a similar tattoo, but it is on her left arm. They match up to form one set of wings and the circles overlap when they're facing each other. Both of them have half of the constellation of Capricorn (a reference to [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] obviously) and a small symbol of the planet as well.

Ellen Tigh, a previous life of hers, or an identical ancestor, lived on Earth two millennia ago. Like all terrestrial humanoids of the era, she was a Cylon: a member of the 13th Tribe. There, she and Saul Tigh (or, again, a previous life of Saul's, or an identical ancestor with the same name) were successful urbanites. She was trapped under rubble in the lobby of their apartment building when nuclear armageddon arrived. Saul heard her cries and was able to clear only superficial debris from around her before they were both killed by the subsequent blasts. Ellen was aware of Cylon reincarnation and the cyclical nature of Cylon life. Her dying words to Saul were the prophesy, "Saul, it's okay. Everything's in place. We'll be reborn…again. Together." ([[Sometimes a Great Notion]])

Colonel [[Saul Tigh]], estranged from his wife and realizing her tendencies, finds himself burning a cigar hole in a photo of Ellen, just as [[Action Stations|action station klaxons]] ring throughout the decommissioned [[Galactica (RDM)|battlestar]] as the start of the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon attack]].

With the Colonies destroyed, billions of people are dead and Ellen Tigh is presumed to be one of the many suffering that fate ([[Miniseries]]).

==Character History at a Glance==

*Commander Adama secretly visits a ship in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]], telling none on his command staff of his goal. He returns to ''Galactica'' and a curious Colonel Tigh with an unexpected surprise: a living Ellen Tigh.
*Ellen Tigh claims to have been on [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]] at the time of the Cylon attack, on her way back home for a reunion with her husband. When the airport was hit in the attack, she claims an anonymous hero found her unconscious body and got her on to one of the last transports out, where she had been unconscious aboard the ''[[Rising Star (RDM)|Rising Star]]'' for some three weeks prior to Adama finding her.
*Following the reunion, Ellen claims she wants to make a fresh start, but no sooner as Saul (still hopelessly in love with her) agrees, Ellen influences him back to drinking heavily and begins flirting openly with other men.
*Her first target is an unwilling [[Lee Adama]] during dinner with Lee, his father and [[Laura Roslin]]. Later she flirts with [[Gaius Baltar]] with greater effect - annoying her husband in the process.
*Ellen Tigh's rescue claims are immediately considered suspect. No one on the ''Rising Star'' can remember treating her through her long weeks of unconsciousness.
*Ellen Tigh takes an unnatural interest in Adama's plans to lead the fleet to Earth, almost badgering him into trying to reveal how long the journey will take. Her actions seem to support Adama's precaution of having Baltar scan Ellen's blood sample to see if she is a Cylon (unbeknownst to her husband).
*Baltar's tests conclude that Ellen Tigh is human, and this quiets Adama's suspicion. But Dr. Baltar self-sabotages his own Cylon detection efforts, fearing that exposing a humanoid Cylon would expose him in his duplicity in the Cylon attack, or to assassination.

One year after [[New Caprica]] is colonized, Ellen Tigh settles on the planet. Her husband joins her later, after Admiral Adama's insistence. Interestingly, they seem to fully reconcile during this time. Shortly thereafter the Cylon fleet discovers the planet, the Colonial Fleet in orbit jumps away, and the Cylon occupation of New Caprica begins ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

Four months after the occupation, Ellen Tigh's husband is imprisoned in the [[New Caprica Detention Center]], resulting in the loss of his right eye. In order to secure his release, Ellen enters into a deal with a [[Cavil]] model. After her sexual encounter with Cavil, her husband is released ([[Occupation]]).

However, as Ellen Tigh later finds out from this same Cavil, Saul is released in order to further the Cylons' plans to tighten their grip on the civilian population. Despite the release, Ellen reports back to Cavil to further fornicate with him, suggesting some sort of long term sexual agreement. In the aftermath of a session, Cavil demands that she must find out when the next high-level meeting of the resistance is to convene; failure to do so will result in Saul being recaptured and imprisoned again.

Ellen Tigh steals a map of [[Breeders Canyon]], created by [[Samuel Anders]], which Saul gave to her to destroy in a nearby tent fire ([[Precipice]]).

The map is later found on a dead humanoid Cylon by Anders' team after he and Fleet liaison [[Sharon Agathon]] eliminate the Centurion attack. Ellen Tigh is soon found and forced into the underground hideout, where Colonel Tigh is told of his wife's deception and confronts his wife ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

The resistance leaders compel Saul Tigh to execute his wife for collaboration with the Cylons. Saul carries out the execution by poisoning Ellen's drink prior to the [[Battle of New Caprica]] ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

== Saul's "Virtual Ellen" ==

When Colonel [[Saul Tigh]] visits [[Caprica Six]] in the [[brig]], to inform her that her request to see [[Hera Agathon]] has been denied, he begins to see Ellen in Six's place. The woman he sees still has the clothes and hair of Number Six, but the face and body of Ellen Tigh. She speaks the same words as Six, but in Ellen's voice.

Later, Colonel Tigh returns to the cell where Caprica Six is held. Wanting to find out how Cylons deal with pain and guilt, he questions Six to learn that the Cylons have modeled their brains around the human brain and have found a "human" way to shut off pain by accepting it. During this conversation, the "Virtual Ellen" appears and removes Saul's eye patch in an act of tenderness, which Saul rebukes ([[Escape Velocity]]).

==Revelation of her true nature==
In a vision on Earth, Saul Tigh sees Ellen trapped underneath a slab of rock fallen after a nuclear blast. He tries to free her, but before they're both killed in another nuclear blast she tells him that they'll be reborn together. Coming out of the vision, Saul Tigh realizes the truth: Ellen is the last of the [[Final Five]].

In the DVD commentary for the [[Miniseries]], it is revealed that Ellen Tigh was originally portrayed in picture form only by executive producer [[David Eick]]'s wife, Jennifer. The picture was later replicated for the series with Kate Vernon taking the place of Mrs. Eick and the scene reshot, so Saul Tigh is seen burning a picture of Vernon in the "flashback" sequence at the beginning of "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down."

==The Macbeth Connection==
Ellen Tigh can be profitably compared with one of Shakespeare's most memorable women. Like Lady Macbeth, Ellen is married to a man who is in the line of command, but who doesn't want the top job. She uses a combination of insult, flattery, and sexual temptation to get her husband in the game, arranges the murder of others, and even makes alcohol one of her most potent weapons (in the play, Lady Macbeth gets the castle guards drunk so that she and her husband can kill the king and princes). In the words of Lady M herself, to her husband, "Hie thee hither, that I may pour my spirits in thine ear, and chastise with the valour of my tongue all that impedes thee from the golden round."

In fact, of all Shakespeare's plays, ''Macbeth'' is a particularly appropriate one for a series about evil robots who seem human on the outside ("fair is foul and foul is fair"), who are experts at lying and manipulation ("And oftentimes, to win us to our harm, the instruments of darkness tell us truths, win us with honest trifles, to betray us'n deepest consequence"), and who chase our heroes through the gulf of space (at least one scholar has noted that all of the play's most memorable scenes "take place either at night or in some dark spot"). Like Macbeth himself, [[Saul Tigh]] is famous for a bout of vicious hand to hand fighting in the recent war ("For brave Macbeth ... disdaining Fortune, with his brandish'd steel which smok'd with bloody execution ... carv'd out that passage").

The game is set in the first season immediately following the destruction of the Twelve Colonies. There are two "teams" in the game, the humans and the Cylons. The game starts like the series, with the humans trying to reach [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]]. Initially, the Cylons are game mechanics thrown at the humans in the form of crisis cards during each player's turn. As the game progresses, it becomes obvious that one or more players may in fact ''be'' a Cylon and is trying to prevent the humans from getting to Kobol by secretly subverting their efforts to get past the challenges presented in the crisis cards. Secrecy is a big part of the game.

Designed for 3 to 6 players, each player chooses to play as one of 10 characters, each with their own skills, abilities, and weaknesses while trying to help mankind reach Kobol. Characters available include [[William Adama]], [[Lee Adama]], [[Kara Thrace]], [[Saul Tigh]], [[Sharon Valerii]], [[Gaius Baltar]], [[Galen Tyrol]], President [[Laura Roslin]], [[Tom Zarek]] and [[Karl Agathon]].

The human team wins by making [[FTL]] jumps until reaching [[Kobol]], then making a final jump. During that process, they have to keep several resources from running out including food, fuel, morale, and population, while also keeping ''Galactica'' from being destroyed by Cylon ships or boarded by [[Centurion (RDM)|Centurions]]. Half way to Kobol, the 'sleeper agent' phase kicks in, which some players that were human at the start of the game might find out that they are now a Cylon. This aspect of the game means that human players might want to be careful about how well they are doing in the game prior to this phase, as other players might notice a sudden change in play style. The Cylon team wins if the any of the resources run out, ''Galactica'' is destroyed, or if a boarding party can "vent the oxygen to space" from the battlestar and kill the crew.

== Biography ==

Dualla's father thought that her enlistment in the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet Reserve]] was crazy, and he viewed the military as a joke. She signed up anyway because she "wanted to believe in something." This rift with her father would continue throughout her service and the last time they spoke they got in a heated argument; three weeks later the Cylons attacked, and Dualla never got a chance to reconcile with him ([[Final Cut]]). His rejection of her career choice stems from traditional Sagittaron [[Religion in the Twelve Colonies#Sagittaron beliefs|beliefs]] in pacifism, which Dualla does not share ([[The Woman King]]).

At the time of the [[Cylon attack]] she monitors Colonial Fleet communications traffic. Dualla is among the first to notice the unusually high levels of [[CNP|shipboard malfunctions and failures]] aboard other battlestars ([[Miniseries]]).

After the Fleet's [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage|initial escape and pursuit]] by the Cylons, Dualla coordinates Fleet activities such as [[FTL]] jumps with Tactical Officer [[Felix Gaeta]]. In this responsibility, she discovers that the ''[[Olympic Carrier]]'' fails to jump with the fleet after yet another jump ([[33]]).

Due to his attraction to Dualla, presidential aide [[Billy Keikeya]] "volunteers" her to join an off-ship mission to the ''[[Astral Queen]]'' ([[Bastille Day]]). Led by Captain [[Lee Adama]], the mission is to attempt enlistment of prisoners aboard the ''Astral Queen'' in resupplying ''Galactica'' with water following an act of sabotage ([[Water]]). During the mission, the team is taken hostage by prisoners during a jail break lead by fellow Sagittaron and political agitator [[Tom Zarek]].

Freed without personal harm during this situation, Dualla returns Billy Keikeya's affections, and they date during off-duty periods ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]).

When a party of [[Cylon Centurion|Cylons]] boards the ''Galactica'', Dualla suffers a concussion, but survives the engagement ([[Valley of Darkness]]). Later, Dualla aids in [[Laura Roslin]]'s escape from ''Galactica'' after the President's arrest by covering up the tracks of their secret communications coordinating their movements in the Fleet, and getting Colonel Tigh to sign permission to close off a causeway which they use as an escape route. At this time, Dualla seems to take a greater personal interest in [[Lee Adama|Apollo]] ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Dualla is assigned to give [[D'Anna Biers]] a tour around the battlestar as part of Biers' documentary of the ship ([[Final Cut]]). Lee Adama seems to return Dualla's personal attraction during a sparring exercise with the petty officer ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).

Dualla's [[avionics]] training helps in building a stable communications package for the experimental [[Blackbird]] fighter ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).

Keikeya, apparently attempting to solidify his relationship with the petty officer, proposes to Dualla, but she refuses. Keikeya later sees Dualla with Lee Adama on ''[[Cloud 9]]'' and accuses her of leading him on. Shortly after Keikeya's accusation, four terrorists commandeer the lounge and its occupants and demand the surrender of [[Sharon Valerii]]. When a ruse by Admiral [[William Adama]] is discovered, the [[Sesha Abinell|leader]] of the the terrorists orders Dualla's death. Keikeya intervenes and manages to shoot one of the terrorists, but Keikeya is also fatally wounded. In the same battle, Lee Adama is left severely wounded from a friendly-fire incident during an ill-fated reconnaissance by [[Kara Thrace]]. Dualla promises to watch over Lee Adama until he recovers in [[sickbay]]. When he finally regained consciousness, Dualla was so happy that neither of them noticed Thrace leaving the sickbay with a heartbroken expression ([[Sacrifice]]).

A few months later, still involved with Apollo, Dualla assists in the counting of ballots for the Presidential election. Dualla conspires with [[Tory Foster]] and [[Saul Tigh]] to rig the election in Roslin's favor, indicating that she comprehends the disaster that would follow if [[Gaius Baltar]] is elected. Though the plot initially succeeds, Lt. Gaeta's curiosity leads to Admiral Adama's discovery of the duplicity.

== Colonization of New Caprica ==

A few months later, Dualla has received a lieutenant's commission and is an officer now. Her transfer to ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' was approved on Founders' Day - the official groundbreaking of [[New Caprica City]], but she is still trying to keep her relationship with Lee Adama from becoming too public.

On the night of Founders' Day, Lee Adama spends a night with Thrace. The following morning, however, upon seeing that Thrace and Anders eloped, Lee proposes to Dualla and holds her affectionately in public. Dualla is aware of his love for Thrace, but likely doesn't know that they slept together. However, she says that life is good at the moment and that they should make the best of it until the Cylons show up again. She tells Adama that this is the happiest state she has ever seen him in and agrees to marry him ([[Unfinished Business (Extended Version)]]).

She subsequently serves as communications and executive officer on ''Pegasus'', part of its skeletal crew in orbit around [[New Caprica]]. She answers the communication from Kara Thrace on New Caprica, who wants to ask Commander Adama for [[antibiotics]] for [[Samuel Anders|her husband]]. While Adama is on the phone, Dualla identifies sudden [[DRADIS]] contacts of a large [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] fleet ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

Four months after leaving New Caprica, [[William Adama|Admiral Adama]] decides to go through with a hazardous rescue operation. Dualla visibly disapproves of her father-in-law's decision to grant amnesty and a commission to [[Sharon Agathon]] and assign her as the liaison officer with the [[New Caprica Resistance]] ([[Precipice]]). Dualla tries to reassure her husband after Admiral Adama decides to take ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' alone on the New Caprica rescue mission ([[Exodus, Part I]]). She appears visibly pleased when her husband defies orders and sacrifices ''Pegasus'' to save ''Galactica'' and the reassembled Fleet ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

==After the Second Exodus==
Dualla returns periodically to her old post in ''Galactica's'' CIC after the Battle of New Caprica, but also has greater responsibilities in shepherding civilians on ''Galactica'' during a harrowing journey through a [[Passage (star cluster)|dangerous star cluster]] to a [[Algae planet|planet filled with edible algae]] ([[The Passage]]). Dualla and Samuel Anders are also witness to what appears to be both a feud and not-so-veiled affection between her husband and Anders' wife during a boxing match where Major Adama and Captain Thrace beat each other to exhaustion ([[Unfinished Business]]).

After Cylons arrive at the algae planet, Dualla must shift her time to coordinate a defensive plan for the mysterious [[Temple of Five]]. She is ordered by her husband to rescue Starbuck after her [[Raptor]] is downed by a Cylon missile. Despite being quite aware of her husband's affair with Thrace, she rescues Thrace, repairs the [[Computers in the Re-imagined Series#Avionics|avionics]], and, with Thrace's guidance, flies the Raptor back to ''Galactica'' herself despite her own lack of pilot training as Starbuck's hands are too badly burned for her to fly ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Rapture]]").

Dualla confronts her husband about their marriage and its problems. She believes it to be a lie, but indicates she will not interfere if Adama chose to pursue his relationship with Kara Thrace. Adama breaks off his affair and reconciles ([[Taking a Break From All Your Worries]]).

Dualla contracts [[Mellorak sickness]] as do many other fellow Sagittarons (housed [[Dogsville|as refugees]] on the battlestar). While Dualla does not share the same beliefs of other Sagittarons regarding medical care and the military, she seeks treatment from Dr. [[Michael Robert]], a civilian doctor, because her unspecified dislike for Doctor [[Cottle]]. A plot is soon discovered where the doctor is killing Sagittarons he treats, and [[Karl Agathon]] rushes in to save Dualla. Fortunately, Dr. Robert had administered the correct medication to Dualla, giving exception due to her military service ([[The Woman King]]).

When her husband chooses to defend Dr. [[Gaius Baltar]] in his trial, Dualla is incensed, and separates from Adama ([[Crossroads, Part I]]). Later, when Adama officially leaves ''Galactica'' to start his new life a civilian, the two embrace and he tells her that she "got the house", implying that their breakup is final yet, in the end, amicable ([[Six of One]]).

She works closely with her estranged husband when, as Acting President, Lee takes command of the fleet during his father's emotional incapacity and threatens to execute [[Saul Tigh]], [[Samuel Anders]], and [[Galen Tyrol]] unless [[Number Three (Downloaded copy)|Number Three]] releases her human hostages ([[Revelations]]). Dualla addresses him as "Mr. President" when notifying him of incoming communication, but does not demonstrate any of the animosity, disapproval nor hostility toward him as she periodically did aboard ''Pegasus'' and the algae planet. Indeed, she appears to be quite pleased and proud of her husband, while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Finding the planet Earth in its devastated condition takes a heavy toll on her. Upon returning to Galactica from the initial visit to the surface, she seeks out Lee and the two spend a pleasant evening over drinks together. She returns to her quarters and speaks briefly with Felix Gaeta. Directly after he leaves the room, she pulls out her service pistol, places it against her temple, and pulls the trigger. A shocked Felix races back into the room. He and other crewmembers call for a medic, but it is already too late.

He [[Crossroads, Part II|becomes aware]] of his [[Humanoid Cylon|true nature]] as one of the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] "[[Final Five]]", and suspects that his wife might be a Cylon, too.

==Biography==

Prior to his Cylon awakening, Anders believed he was born on [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]] and attended [[Noyce Elementary School]]<ref>His [[Crossroads, Part II|recent revelation]] as a [[Final Five]] [[humanoid Cylon|Cylon]] makes this questionable.</ref>. He was a [[Pyramid]] player for the [[Caprica Buccaneers]] and was leading his team in high-altitude training in the mountains outside of [[Delphi]] when Caprica was attacked during the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon assault on the Colonies]]. The high-altitude shielded them from the blasts of the nuclear attacks and most of the radioactive fallout that followed. He and the Buccaneers become ad hoc resistance fighters from that point forward, raiding armories and collecting caches of weapons, [[anti-radiation medication]], ammunition and supplies in the hopes of surviving and defending themselves against the Cylons.

Anders was able to rally upwards of 100 people, mostly hikers and survivalists, to his resistance against the Cylons and from the former [[Delphi Union High School]] he was able to strike back at the Cylons for nine months. Unlike [[Karl Agathon]], the Caprica-based (and pregnant) [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon Valerii]] and [[Kara Thrace]], Anders seems to be focused more on surviving on Caprica than he is with leaving the planet.

Anders and his resistance members encounter Agathon and Thrace two months after the initial Cylon attack ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]). Anders's main focus for a time is keeping himself and his resistance movement alive long enough for Thrace to return to Caprica once again with reinforcements from ''Galactica'' and evacuate them. Before leaving, Thrace gives him her [[Identification tags|Fleet ID tags]] as a promise that she would come back for him. While waiting for rescue, Anders plans to locate and destroy as many Cylon hybrid-producing "farms" as possible ([[The Farm]]).

Anders and the resistance movement conduct acts of terrorism against the Cylons after they appropriate Delphi for their own. His aim was to scare the Cylons into believing there is no safe place for them and to kill them in the most gruesome way possible so they remember when they are reborn what it is like to die violently, like in an explosion ([[Downloaded]]).

Following the Cylons' re-appropriation of Delphi, Anders and his fighters continue their insurgency, and carry out a series of attacks on the Cylons, the most notable of which was the destruction of a café which kill roughly 40 Cylons. After planting the bomb in a garage, Anders is trapped with the bomb after defending it from a Centurion. Hiding behind a car on the other side of the garage, Anders is mostly protected from the blast but buried under rubble. Later found by [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] and [[Number Three]]. Anders is spared, as he would be a useful source of information. When [[Caprica-Six]] talks about genocide and God's love, Anders uses the opening to try and kill Number Three, but is stopped by Boomer. Three is more than willing to take revenge, but all are astonished when Caprica-Six kills Three. Heeding Six's orders to get out, Anders flees, still puzzled by what had transpired (Downloaded).

== Rescue and Joining the Fleet ==

Anders survives an assault by the Cylons at the resistance's headquarters -- the same morning that the Caprica [[SAR]] team lands nearby. The Cylons assaulted the remnants of the Resistance as they head for the Raptors ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]), forcing them to go to higher ground. After the Cylons stop attacking them, Thrace (leading the rescue team) fears the worst. Anders and Thrace promise to kill each other so that the Cylons would be unable to put them in one of their [[farms]]. Miraculously, a [[Cavil|mysterious man]] appears to tell the team that the Cylons have left the Colonies.

Thrace and Anders's relationship picks up where it left off, forcing a rift to occur between Thrace and [[Lee Adama]].

A year later, now married to Thrace on [[New Caprica]], Anders develops [[Wikipedia:pneumonia|pneumonia]], forcing Thrace to beg Lee Adama to release some [[antibiotics]] reserved for ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''' pilots. After the Cylons occupy New Caprica, Anders is visited by a copy of [[Leoben Conoy]] who inquires on Kara Thrace's whereabouts ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). Since the Cylons had forced ''Pegasus'' and the defense fleet away from New Caprica, the antibiotics are no longer avaliable to help Anders.

Anders recovers from his sickness and becomes a leader of the [[New Caprica Resistance]], along with [[Saul Tigh]] and [[Galen Tyrol]]. Thrace was taken from him sometime after the occupation, and he is unsure if she is still alive ([[Occupation]]).

Four months into the occupation, contact is made with a Raptor and a rescue plan is put in motion. Anders meets ''Galactica'''s liaison officer [[Sharon Agathon]] in [[Breeders Canyon]], and the group is ambushed by Cylon Centurions ([[Precipice]]). After the Centurions are neutralized, a map is found on a dead [[Humanoid Cylon|'skinjob']] and Anders realizes that the map is the one given to [[Ellen Tigh]] to destroy in a heating fire. Tigh is then suspected of collaborating with the Cylons.

Later, Anders is charged by Laura Roslin with protecting [[Maya]] and the Cylon-human hybrid baby [[Hera Agathon|Hera]] ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

Anders then tells [[Saul Tigh]] about his [[Ellen Tigh|wife]]'s betrayal. He tells Tigh that if he doesn't "take care" of the problem, someone else will. After ''Galactica'' jumps into orbit, Anders and a group of resistance fighters set off multiple bombs around [[New Caprica City]]. They then retrieve a cache of weapons hidden under the Pyramid court in order storm the [[New Caprica Detention Center|detention center]] and free the humans imprisoned within. Inside the detention center, Anders and a team of Marines find an unconscious Kara Thrace in her apartment style prison cell. Anders begins to carry Thrace out of the center but is interrupted after Thrace regains consciousness and runs back to retrieve her daughter, [[Kacey]]. Anders finds Thrace and Kacey back at the apartment, and leads both out of the building ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

Shortly following the Fleet's abandonment of New Caprica, Anders is brought into the [[The Circle|Circle]], a secret council assembled by President [[Tom Zarek]] for the purpose of judging and executing those who had collaborated with the Cylons during the occupation. Anders soon becomes uncomfortable with the Circle's actions and leaves the group. Thrace accepts the Circle's invitation to replace Anders, an act her husband sees as a personal betrayal. He hands back Thrace's ID tag, saying he doesn't want it anymore. Thrace and Anders are still husband and wife, but the combination of Thrace's joining the Circle and her feelings for Lee Adama has heavily strains their marriage. He eventually moves off ''Galactica'' to the ''[[Salpica]]'' ([[Unfinished Business (Extended Version)]]), which limits their contact to occasional visits per shuttle or participation in critical missions ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Rapture]]").

The death of his wife ([[Maelstrom]]) weighs heavily on Anders. Two weeks later he is found drunk on the hangar deck, standing atop of a Viper and playing with a [[cubit]]. When Lee Adama is tries to get Anders to come down, he slips, falls and breaks one of his legs. Later, Anders joins Adama at the [[memorial wall]] where Adama has put up Kara Thrace's picture ([[The Son Also Rises]]). Shortly after this, Anders decides to follow in his wife's footsteps by obtaining a commission and joining the Fleet as a [[nugget|pilot trainee]] ([[Crossroads, Part I]]), initially flying Raptors before transitioning to Vipers.

== Revelation ==

Not long after he begins a relationship with [[Tory Foster]], he realizes that the pair of them are experiencing [[The Music|hearing something unusual]]. Later on, he discovers that Tyrol hears the strange sounds as well, but does not get the opportunity to discuss it with him. When Anders, along with Tyrol, Foster and Saul Tigh find themselves drawn to a room shortly after the Fleet arrives at the [[Ionian nebula]], they instinctively realized that they are four of the [[Final Five]] Cylons. However, both he and Tigh agree that their lives up until that point were not in vain, and the four wordlessly agree to continue their allegiance to the Colonies ([[Crossroads, Part II]]).

He participates in the [[Battle of the Ionian Nebula]], finding himself face to face with a Cylon [[Raider (RDM)|Raider]] that he fails to destroy because his weapon safeties are enabled. The fortuitous act results in the Raider scanning Anders, whose eye flickers red. The Raider determines that he is a Cylon and as a result the Raiders abruptly abort their attack on the Fleet, forcing the whole Cylon fleet to retreat. After the battle, he recalls his experience with the Cylon Raider to the others, and wonders whether he just made a "nugget mistake" or if he was physically incapable of firing. Anders, along with the others, agree to kill themselves before they betray the humans ([[He That Believeth In Me]]).

Anders joins the ''[[Demetrius]]'''s crew on its mission to find [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]]. Three weeks into the mission, he questions Thrace's command style, forcing her to open up more about her mission with her crew ([[The Ties That Bind]]). A week later they encounter a damaged Heavy Raider with [[Number Two|a copy of Leoben Conoy]] aboard. Thrace allows him aboard against the crew's wishes, because she wants his help in finding Earth. When Anders sees how physically close the two are, he attacks him until Marines separate them. Later, Anders asks Conoy what he wants from Thrace. Conoy replies that he seeks to understand Thrace's [[The Destiny|unexplained destiny]], which Anders doesn't consider good enough. Conoy says otherwise and that Anders might have his own destiny, beyond his relatively inconsequential life as a professional Pyramid player ([[The Road Less Traveled]]).

During the mutiny aboard the ''Demetrius'' Anders sides with Thrace, going as far as to shoot [[Felix Gaeta]] in the knee to prevent him from jumping back to ''Galactica''. After accompanying Thrace to a disabled Cylon [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]], Anders involves himself in an execution of a [[Number Six]] model who had moments before murdered [[Jean Barolay]]. The idea of [[Natalie]] assisting to pull the trigger on another of her models disturbs him. Later into the mission, however, he consoles a dying [[Number Eight]] when [[Sharon Agathon]] fails to. He then becomes visibly worried when Thrace, Natalie and Sharon deduce that the [[Final Five]] have come from and know the way back to Earth, and propose a resurrection of the [[Number Three]] model to reveal the Five's identities ([[Faith]]). Back on ''Galactica'', Anders is distraught over the loss of Gaeta's leg, talking of how Gaeta [[Gaeta's Lament|sings]] all the time to cope with his pain, but can't bring himself to talk to Gaeta about it ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]).

During a confrontation with their erstwhile Cylon allies — now lead by the unboxed [[Number Three (Downloaded copy)|D'Anna Biers]] — interim President Lee Adama forcefully persuades Colonel Tigh to give up the identities of the other Final Five aboard ''Galactica'', the safety of the Fleet hanging on it. Anders is arrested along with Tyrol, and they join Tigh in the launch tube airlock, under threat of being spaced in the showdown. Just as Adama is about to follow through on his threat, Thrace averts the execution with news that the three Cylons have given them the way to [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]]. Anders and his fellow Cylons unexpectedly receive a full amnesty by President Adama, and is part of the landing party that finds Earth in a post-apocalyptic state ([[Revelations]]).

==Notes==
*"Ander" is derived from a Greek term meaning "Man" (a well known example would be that "Anderson" means "Son of Andrew/Andreas/etc", the name being a descendant of Greek andreios ‘manly’, from aner ‘man’, ‘male’, genitive andros). Fitting, given that Anders is leading the last free humans alive on Caprica in a resistance against the Cylons: it's literally a fight of "Man" versus Machines. The revelation of Anders as a Cylon makes this ironic.

*The tattoo that Anders has on his right arm in Season 3 is his "wedding band". He got it after he married [[Kara Thrace]], who also has a similar tattoo, but it is on her left arm. They match up to form one set of wings and the circles overlap when they're facing each other. Both of them have half of the constellation of Capricorn (a reference to [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] obviously) and a small symbol of the planet as well.

===Act 1===
*Roslin takes [[diloxin]] treatment in [[sickbay]]. As she lies down and dreams, she experiences the same dream as [[Sharon Agathon]], also in sickbay with [[Hera Agathon|her daughter]], and both scream simultaneously. The two ask to talk privately.
*Later, Roslin and Sharon Agathon meet with [[Caprica-Six]], who has also experienced the dreams. When asked why Six is trying to reach Hera, she says that she felt she had to protect her "with (my) life."
*[[Saul Tigh]] tells Admiral Adama about the music. The admiral tells Tigh that he will look into it later as he leaves for court.
*The trial resumes. Lt. [[Felix Gaeta]] is on the stand. The [[Precipice|execution order]] from [[New Caprica]] is admitted as evidence by [[Cassidy]], the prosecutor.
*Gaeta lies, as viewers are shown the actual events where Baltar is forced to sign at gunpoint, where Gaeta says that Baltar did not resist.
*Lampkin chooses not to cross-examine, to Baltar's great horror. The prosecution rests.

===Act 2===
*After a recess, the defense begins its case.
*Lampkin motions for a mistrial, as Baltar objects, due to prejudicial comments by Admiral Adama four days before. He asks for Mr. Lee Adama to take the stand.
*The prosecuting attorney strongly objects, but after Lampkin warns of much case law (he can think of seven examples off the top of his head) that permits such a procedure, the tribunal allows Mr. Adama to testify.
*Mr. Adama refuses to confirm his father's comments. As Lampkin tries to intimidate Mr. Adama, he restates, asking him if Baltar deserves a fair trial.
*Mr. Adama states that he does. When asked why, he states his belief that Baltar is not guilty. The prosecutor tries to get Mr. Adama off the stand at this point, but Admiral Adama asks for the questioning to continue.
*Pressed for more clarification, Mr. Adama states that Baltar did not commit treason. He asks the tribunal what anyone else would do in that situation. He notes that all other conspirators and resistance fighters were pardoned, as were many, many other mistakes of the past, from [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I|Roslin]], to [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II|Admiral Adama]], and himself in the destruction of the ''[[Olympic Carrier]]'' and running from [[New Caprica]], recommending never to return with [[Pegasus (RDM)|his battlestar]].
*Mr. Adama believes that new laws are needed because they are less of a civilization now and more of a gang. He states that, unlike everyone else, Baltar is being prosecuted because of his arrogance and other considerable character flaws and is not being accorded the same forgiveness as others.
*Adama believes that the trial is built on emotions and shame from the events of New Caprica, and the shame of those that ran away. Mr. Adama looks to his father as he speaks.
*He believes that Baltar is a scapegoat for all the guilt of the people.
*The prosecuting attorney does not cross-examine, and the defense rests.
*The tribunal steps out to deliberate as Roslin steps down to congratulate Cassidy for her work.

===Act 3===
*Baltar is acquitted, 3 votes to 2 against. Yelling turns into a riot in the gallery as [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marines]] try to get Baltar to safety while the [[Fleet News Service|press]] tries to interview many players.
*Baltar is happily discussing the victory but makes a mistake in insulting Admiral Adama. Lee Adama warns him, "Don't push it, doctor."
*When Baltar asks Lampkin to aid him in a book tour and other profitable matters, Lampkin tells him that his association with Baltar is over.
*Baltar suddenly realizes that, despite his apparent freedom, he is a man without a country, without work, friends, or even quarters.
*Lampkin and Mr. Adama say their goodbyes. Lee Adama, on seeing Lampkin walking away without his cane, realizes that he had used the cane as yet another psychological tactic.
*Gaius Baltar tries to be inconspicuous as he moves files elsewhere, but all eyes are on him.
*Roslin and Admiral Adama speak in [[CIC]]. She is incensed at the verdict. Adama reminds Roslin that "not guilty" does not mean "innocent."
*Roslin, who had assumed that Adama cast a guilty vote, realizes [to her shock and anger], that the admiral voted not guilty. She questions him on that, and he confirms that acquital was indeed his vote based upon the fact that the prosecution failed to make their case.
*Adama tells Roslin that no one is asking anyone to forgive or forget, but they must look to the future.
*Adama orders the last jump to the [[Ionian nebula]]. The jump is successful, and Adama orders a [[DRADIS]] scan when Roslin becomes immediately dazed and stunned.
*As Admiral Adama looks to Roslin to check on her health, main power on every ship of the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] fails, leaving each one, including ''Galactica'', drifting dangerously close to each other.

===Act 4===
*Pilots scramble with [[flashlight]]s to their stations while CIC tries to get to auxiliary power, but battery power is the best they can muster.
*The scene shifts to a dream in the [[Opera House]] again, with Gaius Baltar holding Hera and Caprica-Six next to him. Above them, the glowing images of the [[Final Five]] appear. Caprica-Six awakens from the dream.
*Baltar tries to take advantage of the darkness and chaos when [[Baltar's Angels|three women]] confront him. Frightened, Baltar is told by the women that they will take him to safety.
*The mysterious music gets louder, and Tigh, Galen Tyrol, Tory Foster and Anders begin quoting lyrics from an [[The Music|increasingly coherent melody]].
*As viewers watch, the music becomes louder and more dynamic. Each of the four are drawn to the gym on ''Galactica'', where they discover each other. Each are stunned and shocked.
*Tyrol believes the impossible; that all of them are [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]]. Each of them begin to hum the music, together, coherently, in full. Tigh angrily stops them and closes the hatches while they talk.
*Tigh states his time in service, and his history, trying to believe that none of it was in vain. Anders objects as well.
*As power is restored, DRADIS picks up a large Cylon fleet coming their way. [[Viper (RDM)|Vipers]] manage to scramble. [[Helo]], as acting XO, notes the mass power outage will mean that it will take at least 20 minutes for the [[FTL]] jump drives on the civilian ships to be ready. The admiral doesn't believe they have the time.
*In the closed room, Tigh states that, despite what they believe about themselves, that he is going to do his job as a Colonial officer, and heads to CIC. Tory follows Tigh to CIC, while Tyrol and Anders head to the hangar deck.
*The [[hangar deck]] is abuzz with activity as Chief Tyrol arrives, shouting out orders to get a Viper into the launch tube.
*Lee Adama returns to his quarters and grabs his flight suit deciding that he needs to be in the cockpit, protecting the Fleet.
*Admiral Adama orders the preparation of the battlestar's nuclear weapons. Tigh reports on station, keeping his face stony, as does Tory Foster, offering any help to President Roslin.
*The Vipers launch. [[Helo]] is confused about the pilot of Viper 3, which turns out to be Apollo.
*Apollo picks up a target on his [[Viper Mark VII|Viper's]] DRADIS, and tracks it down. As he looks around, an image of a [[Viper Mark II]] keeps appearing and disappearing in the clouds and on DRADIS. The image buzzes overhead and alarms the pilot momentarily.
*Pulling alongside in her undamaged Viper, [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] greets Apollo. She tells him not to "freak out," that it really is her.

* With the revelation that [[Galen Tyrol]] is a [[Humanoid Cylon|Cylon]], the second known Human-Cylon hybrid known to exist is in the form of [[Nicholas Tyrol]]. His birth reinforces the Cylon belief that love is a necessary component to successful procreation. This would make one male and one female hybrid born to date. There may be significant biological differences between the two hybrids; one was carried to term by a human while the other was carried to term by a Cylon. This assumes Galen really is the father; there is strong evidence but no definitive proof of that.

* Lee Adama finally realizes the full extent of how he was manipulated once he sees Lampkin walk off on his own with no cane. Lampkin's ruse was successful in putting a wedge between the Adamas to allow Baltar to be pronounced not guilty.
* Another tendency for the younger Adama is that when faced with the option of completely severing and opposing his father, he will relent and attempt to return to his father's good graces. This has been seen when Lee Adama was given the chance to denounce his father to the Fleet during the military coup, but eventually told Zarek that he couldn't.
* Ironically, it was Roslin who originally wanted Lee Adama to lead a panel to determine who is fit to be on the tribunal. Her reasons being that she believed Lee Adama has a sense of right and wrong that others don't have at that time. Her belief about Lee comes back to haunt her as he rightly points out that her broad forgiveness policy for all within the Fleet after the second Exodus should be applied to Baltar as well. Her fear and knowledge of Baltar's involvement with the genocide of the Colonies has clouded her judgment to extend her original act of grace to Baltar.
* Lampkin, apparently was telling the truth that all he had wanted was to have the glory of being the attorney for the most hated man of the Fleet. Once his job is accomplished, he cleans his hands of Baltar, and makes it clear that besides the trial, he does not want to be associated with Baltar.
* Starbuck's last words in the episode allude back to "[[Maelstrom]]" as she is taking on the role of the [[Aurora, Goddess of the Dawn|Aurora]] idol that she gave to Adama before her "death". She claims that, like the idol placed on the model ship, she will be leading the way to Earth.
* Baltar's determined investigation into whether he was one of the Final Five was rooted in a desperation of figuring out who he was. For Baltar, if he were a Cylon, then he never was a traitor to his people and his self-identity would be cemented forever. *Anders was originally supposed to take over Thrace's bunkbed, locker, and possessions. This was to highlight the strong pull that Anders feels towards Starbuck, even after her death. This was also meant to indirectly cause the audience to wonder what is the connection between Starbuck and Anders now once it was revealed that he is a Cylon.
*After Jamie Bamber (Apollo) delivered his character's courtroom speech for the first take, the entire cast (who were sitting in the stands) and crew gave him a standing ovation.
*Gaeta's perjury was originally discovered in the initial drafts of the show, though it was never filmed. Lampkin was able to find evidence that at the time Baltar signed the death warrant, Gaeta was away doing a dead drop for the Resistance.

And I think the easiest way to remember it is – it’s the result that counts. It’s not the methodology by which one achieves the result. And if you look at Lee and Admiral [[William Adama|[William] Adama]] and the President [[Laura Roslin|[Laura Roslin]]] – it’s all about the methodology. It’s agonizing about whether they’re doing the right thing while they’re doing it. And with Romo it’s like – fuck it, just do it. What you need to do is achieve justice.

: I mean, that’s the point. Is justice achieved at the end of “Crossroads, Part 2”? I think so. I think that’s the point. I think there should be no other outcome to the trial. And I think that is Romo’s job – by any means necessary.

It’s a completely different thing. You can’t run this type of system with a very quickly disintegrating human race. It needs to be looked at in a different way. * [[James Lyman]] (Jammer) is brought before the [[Circle]]. He is found guilty of treason for his work with the [[NCP]], the punishment for which is death.
* Despite his pleas and an attempt to convince [[Galen Tyrol]] to spare him (as Lyman tells Chief Tyrol that he freed [[Cally Tyrol]] from the Cylon death squad ([[Precipice]]), the Circle carries out Lyman's punishment and ejects him from ''Galactica'' by depressurizing the [[launch tubes (RDM)|launch tube]] where he is held.
* After Lyman's execution, Tyrol talks to his wife about how she escaped. While she claims to not have thought about the incident since, Cally tells him that she thinks one of "[[New Caprica Police|those goons]]" set her free.
* On ''[[Colonial One]]'', [[Laura Roslin]] asks [[Tom Zarek]] of his plans as the new president. Under some pressure from Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]], Zarek plans to reconvene the [[Quorum of Twelve (RDM)|Quorum of Twelve]], put Roslin's name in for nomination to vice president and then step down, ceding the presidency to her.

* [[Samuel Anders]] refuses to vote and leaves the Circle, tired of the continuous killing he has done. Chief Tyrol refuses to vote if they do not have a sixth member as required for the Circle.
* Major [[Lee Adama]] speaks with his father on [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] status. Major Adama notes several personnel disappearances over the past 13 days.
* As he leaves Major Adama reveals that he has lost "[[Wikipedia:Stone (weight)|half a stone]]" in weight. Admiral Adama is not impressed.

* The Circle brings in Kara Thrace as the replacement vote of the jury. All vote guilty on Gaeta, except for Tyrol once more.
* When Thrace questions the legality of the Circle, they show her a presidential executive order. Anders enters and requests a moment with his wife.
* The scene splits, with the other members of the Circle trying to convince Tyrol of Gaeta's guilt, and Anders trying to explain that what the Circle does isn't justice. Thrace rebuffs him, her pain from [[Occupation|incarceration]] lashing at anyone, even her husband.

== Analysis ==
*The flight from New Caprica is referred to as "The Second Exodus", implying that the "First Exodus" was [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|from the Colonies]] to New Caprica.
* This is the first time viewers see the interior of a Cylon basestar. In "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]" only a hangar is seen when [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] encounters her [[Number Eight|sisters]].
* Lee Adama mentions that he lost "half a stone" referring to his weight. A stone is a unit of weight used mostly in the United Kingdom and Ireland that is equivalent to 14 pounds or 6.34 kg.
* ''Galactica's'' living spaces and hallways appear much more crowded than in the first two seasons, reflecting the expanded size of her crew. There also appear to be civilians mixed in with ''Galactica'''s crew complement, which is likely the result of overcrowding and the loss of some of the ships during the colonization and occupation of New Caprica.
* The armor plating of ''Galactica'' is visibly damaged from the [[Battle of New Caprica]].
* The only two [[humanoid Cylon]]s to appear are Number Three and Number Six.
