The Adama Glare (also known as the Glare of Death) is a formidable psychological weapon in the arsenal of William Adama. It is an alternative to Bill Adama's other main weapon, the Shield of Disapproval, activated by sudden eye-aversion. It is used to instill loyalty and to punish disloyalty.

The Adama Glare is most noticeably used on subversives, traitors, Cylons, and rogue presidents as well as people close to Adama who have screwed up, including family and subordinates.

Some humanoid Cylons are also affected by the Shield of Disapproval. So far, the only Colonial immune to the Adama Glare is Doctor Cottle, who is able to scowl intensely himself while making important medical decisions. Helena Cain resisted a Glare once, but the strain resulted in permanent back problems, exacerbated psychotic tendencies, and future vulnerability to the Adama Growled Ultimatum, a much weaker psychological weapon that fails to affect even D'Anna Biers on a later occasion. Other strong opponents such as Kara Thrace have been sent away in tears.

The Cylon are so afraid of the Glare, fearing that resurrected Cylons are too heart-broken to live after being exposed to it, that during the occupation of New Caprica, a treaty between the Cylons and Baltar's government rules the use of the Adama Glare a war crime. Ironically, this prevents the Cylons from developing a Glare of their own, much to the consternation of the Brother Cavil model, who spends the rest of the occupation unsuccessfully pitching new ideas for psychological weapons . Ultimately, Number Five is put in charge of psychological warfare (using the primitive but effective "shout and point guns around" method) , with the Cavil model reassigned to curmudgeonry and social commentary on a full-time basis. At this point, the Cylon occupational force fell back on defenses against psychological warfare. The roving omnipresent eye that distinguishes their military hardware may be a countermeasure against direct contact with the Glare.

The Glare is an innate skill highly dependent upon Adama's personal gravitas—as demonstrated by the fact that officers who rely upon curmudgeonry, drunken curmudgeonry, angst, and chronic angst rather than gravitas never acquire the skill from Adama despite years of close association.

Although Adama never used the Glare in the first Cylon War, he used a similar tactic, namely parachuting down to a Cylon-occupied ice planet looking really pissed off, to force the Cylons to sue for peace. Rather than face the prospect of a young and severely enraged William Adama running around on a Cylon-occupied planet with a crowbar, the Cylons made a hasty retreat with the First Hybrid and signed the Armistice in record time. History may never have adequately recognized Adama's role in ending the first war, had the Cylons not wiped out most of the human race 40 years later, leaving Adama the opportunity to write the first draft of history in his logs.

Notes
*The Adama Glare is also credited for Bill Adama's ability to bring audiences to tears with his acoustic rendition of "All Along the Watchtower".
Just a few concluding remarks I don't blame you for what you did, where I in your position I would have done the same thing. The reason I didn't respond to Serenity's first post was because until yesterday I had been unable to figure out how. As far as fear of retribution, I've never really been involved with a wiki before so I wasn't really sure what to expect and was kind of intimidated. I appreciate you're addressing my issues. Not only did it help me understand why things were happening the way they were, but it also made me feel like my input was welcome and that was all I was asking for. I am anxious to see any clarification you can offer in the weeks ahead because I find this a rather fascinating topic.

Thanks again for the clarification. Grandmaester314
I'll talk with Shane about this. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 21:08, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
Examples
Here are some examples I made for the Stargate Wiki FR:

* To see minor characters:
** Automatic generation of a line with five stamps using DPL with entry of the series, the season, and the first article sorted.
** Automatic generation of minor characters for the first page with automatic sort by last name
**Automatic creation of minor character stamps page links with automatic image update and automatic update of the first and the last character name of this page.
* To see objects:
** Automatic generation of a line. All you juste have to do is to put the correct category.
** Autogeneration of a page with the famous lines.
* To resume objects in a bottom navigation bar:
** Nav bar automaticaly updated (put the right category)

All you have to do with this kind or templates is to put the right category and DPL (with a purge) will do the rest. The main purpose of DPL is to avoid editing when the database can do the stuff for you. You don't have to edit an article or a template to update with new article of the same category. --LIMAFOX76 08:28, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
What about RFA and RFB for French BW ?
Hi Joe,

I'm on the verge to edit the policy for the french version of Request for Admninship and Request for Bureaucratship. I need your help for this two policies.
# Do I just translate the English version with the same vote system than the main site?
# Do I have to do it in another way?
# Is the principle of request the same than the main site?
Thanks for answering.--LIMAFOX76 11:25, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

: If you have any suggestions as to improve the policies in question, then that would work well. Until the French wiki has more contributors, I don't think the RFA and RFB are really going to work all that well, and so administrators are promoted on a case-by-case basis as determined by you, me, and Shane. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 13:10, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

:: Until I design or translate all the templates needed and the main page, I think there will not be a lot of contributors. The main problem is the lack of French and French-speaking people who speak English fluently. French people are not very confortable with English, so it's very difficult for them to contribute unless they have seen the show and are fans. With your agreement, I will just create one page for RFA and RFB with the statement you said above (Shane, you and me).<br/>FYI, all the episodes of the Re-Imagined Series have been aired in France, and have been released in DVD format (I just saw the Season 4 Part 2 Set yesterday in a supermarket) . --LIMAFOX76 14:22, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

:This page covers the resistance movement on New Caprica. For other meanings, see "Resistance".
__NOTOC__
The New Caprica Resistance is formed by Colonials to resist the Cylon occupation of New Caprica after President Gaius Baltar's surrender. The day the Cylons march into New Caprica City, Kara Thrace vows that they will "fight 'em until we can't" (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II). Ironically, Thrace herself would be unable to participate in the resistance.

Two months into the occupation of New Caprica, Saul Tigh, Galen Tyrol, and James Lyman are starting to organize, recruit members, and stockpile weapons for the struggling resistance. According to a report transmitted to Galactica another two months later, Tigh commands 1150 soldiers. Resistance targets include New Caprican infrastructure, the Cylon Occupation Authority, and the Baltar administration.

Tigh's plan is to use attacks to keep the Cylons off guard until Galactica can effect a rescue of the populations. This includes desperate acts like suicide bombings, which is condoned by some members, but vehemently opposed by former President Laura Roslin. Tyrol also begins to object after he learns that Tigh plans to target the city's market and the civilians there. Targets of such attacks are a graduation ceremony of the New Caprica Police and a power generation station.

Immediately prior to the escape from the planet, the resistance makes contact with a party dispatched from Galactica in Breeders Canyon and smuggles them into the city. They also rescue approximately 200 people from a mass execution at the Pergamus Flats, among them Laura Roslin, Tom Zarek and Cally Tyrol. When Galactica attacks, members race to their weapon caches, for example hidden under the Pyramid court, and attack the Cylons in force, in order to gain access to the ship yard (Exodus, Part I and Part II).

* "Sooner or later, the day comes when you can't hide from the Adama Glare." - Zak Adama to Kara Thrace, before entering his Viper
