==Marvel Comic Series==
The [[w:Marvel Comics|Marvel Comics]] ''Battlestar Galactica'' comic book series lasted 23 issues from 1979 to 1981. The first 3 issues cover the pilot episode, "[[Saga of a Star World]]" and issues 4 and 5 cover the second episode, "[[Lost Planet of the Gods]]."

Starting with issue #6, the series ignores the rest of the events of the [[Original Series]] and begins completely original stories (Marvel's contract with Universal specifically did not allow them to use anything from the television series that followed "Lost Planet Of The Gods"). Ironically, #6 came out around the time that the series was canceled, so the timing was there to pick up where the television series had left off.
==Synopsis==
The old Cylons attempt to kill the Sharon in the cell of the Galactica, and she starts downloading to a new body. However, before she dies, Cottle manages to revive her. The new Sharon, only having partial memories, is attacked by a gang of construction workers who survived the holocaust in a construction ship too small. The captain regulates this by forcing all who don't please him to remain outside the ships in pressure suits. They try to take her to him as a sex slave in order to be allowed within the ship, but she convinces them to join with her and ovethrowing the rest of the people in the ship, and she takes her place as the crew's captain, planning to reunite with the Galactica.

Meanwhile, Adama figures the Cylons intended the returners to divide the fleet, and so creates a plan that will, at least for the time being, allow them to be accepted, figuring the Cylons wanted the returners dead for some reason.

==Continuity==
The comic states that the Cylons can control what memories an individual keeps when s/he downloads. Also, they are apparently able to download into bodies outside of resurrection ships.

{{project|Think Tank|image=BSG WIKI ThinkTank.png|shortcut=BW:TANK}}

The '''Think Tank''' is a way to [[BW:BOLD|be bold]] and get other people to help in your quest to make bold actions on the wiki. The following are items that are considered major decisions which must go through the Think Tank vetting process prior to '''any''' implementation:

* New policy proposals.
* New projects.
* New templates.
* Extensive modifications to already existing policies.
* Anything considered major by administrator (and/or community) consensus.

Any of these must be proposed prior to implementation. This process ensures that the originator of the idea receives the proper feedback and that all ideas are properly fleshed out prior to any wiki-wide implementation. Basically, "let's make a plan before we hit the ground running".

= Procedures =

To propose a new idea, do the following:

<inputbox>
type=create
width=75
default=Battlestar Wiki:Think Tank/IDEA
buttonlabel=Create Idea
preload=Template:thinktank
</inputbox>
#Save page, then re-edit. Fill out all applicable fields.
#Once you're done, save the page and add the following to '''Current ideas''':
#: <tt><nowiki>* [[Battlestar Wiki:Think Tank/name of idea]]</nowiki></tt>

== Instructions ==

The input of all interested members of the community is needed for the Think Tank to operate properly. Any user may comment on proposed ideas on the discussion page of the proposal. (Comments should not be added to the actual proposal itself. Also, do note that changes to the proposal itself should be made when consensus on debated items is determined.)

Should a vote be necessary to determine consensus, all administrators are required to vote on the proposal, using {{tl|oppose}}, {{tl|support}} or {{tl|neutral}}, with explainations on their vote.

For voting, a reasonable time frame must be put into place; the default deadline for voting on proposals should be seven days. When indicating a deadline, please include the date ''and'' time in UTC. Deadlines can be extended, but only if the necessity of such an action is determined by a majority.

== Administrator instructions ==

To determine consensus at the end of voting, add up the total number of support votes and divide by the total number of votes. Should the number meet or exceed 80%, then the Think Tank proposal passes. Anything between 45-55% of support will be considered as not having achieved consensus. '''Proposals that have not achieved consensus are to be shelved for a period time until it can be brought back into the light.'''

Once done, the proposals are to be archived for future reference, and separated into three groups: '''Successful proposals''', '''Unsuccessful proposals''', and '''Proposals without consensus'''.

To archive a page, add ''one'' the following to the top of each page:

# For successful proposals: {{tl|ttp}}
# For unsuccessful proposals: {{tl|ttu}}
# For proposals without consensus: {{tl|ttnc}}

And to all proposals, add the following to the ''bottom'': {{tl|ttf}}

= Ideas =

First off, I'm not really sure if I'm following the correct procedure for this or not. If I'm not, please correct it or tell me how to.
==Current policy==
Currently, our separate continuity policy means that we can make pages on licensed products (games, books, comics, etc) and new characters, ships, locations, etc., contained within them. However, we cannot include information from those sources within articles based on canonical sources (i.e., anything featured/mentioned in episodes). For example, an article on the [[Third Colonial Conflict]] exists, but information about it can't be included in the [[Twelve Colonies]] page.

==Suggested revision==
As a reader of the comics, I feel that this is a mistake that we should change. For example, there is a lot of information on Sagittaron from ''[[Battlestar Galactica: Zarek 1]]'' that should be included in said Twelve Colonies article. I'm not saying we should fully integrate it with the canonical information or that we should mark it as canonical; I'm just saying that it should be included ''somewhere'' within the article.

==Ideas==
===1: Interspercing throughout article===
For this idea, information from non-canonical sources could be included throughout the main article, although marked as being non-canon either by tags (as is done on Wookieepedia) or by placing the section in italics and noting (as is done on MemoryAlpha).

For example, an article on Sagittarion could read:

'''Sagittarion was one of the Twelve Colonies.'''

:'''''John Smith was its President during the Cylon Wars.'''''

'''Tom Zarek was a native of the world.'''

One downside: it would make articles cluttered, especially if there are multiple (conflicting) accounts of the same aspect/event/etc.

===2: Separate sections===
For this idea, article could have a non-canon section at the bottom to put information from spinoffs. This is also done at MemoryAlpha, and is similar to some Wikipedia articles covering characters that have multiple stories from multiple sources. For example, an article might read:

'''<nowiki>Sagittaron was a colony that Tom Zarek was from.</nowiki>'''
'''<br><nowiki>==Sagittaron in separate continuity==</nowiki>'''
*'''Nitrassium was mined from the world in ''[[Battlestar Galactica: Zarek 1]]''.'''

==Conclusion==
I feel it is important for us to rectify this misguided part of policy, as it serves a detrimental purpose and is based on no discernable reason.
==Publisher's summary==
Just in time for the 2nd half of Season 3 airing on SCI FI Channel in October! Hot on the heels of the best-selling, all-new Battlestar Galactica comic book series from Dynamite Entertainment comes a new Battlestar Galactica mini-series starring Tom Zarek, the loyalty-testing revolutionary played by original series actor Richard Hatch.

Revealing content from Zarek's own novel "The Revolution Within," issue #1 tells the untold origin of Tom Zarek and the Sagittaron colony. Our four issue series shows Tom's beginnings as he grows up in a loving home amidst a slave state and alongside a Cylon work force -- all in the shadow of the First Cylon War. It's through these humble - and tragic - beginnings that he becomes the man we see in Battlestar Galactica today and this is where you'll learn all about him!

==Plot summary==
[[Sagittaron]] is a colony extremely rich with natural resources, but without much influence over the other [[Twelve Colonies]]. The ruling cabinet of the world decides to use its resources to change this. Over a period of generations, the government increases control of production, industry, and agriculture, driving up the materials it supplies to the other colonies but reducing its population to literal slavery. As a mild spirit of reform begins to emerge, the Sagittaron government introduces the first [[Cylon]]s as the answer to its problems, emancipating the slave workers. However, outside of butlering for the rich, the Cylons make few inroads to the workforce, and the freed slaves are forced back to their own jobs, their situation the same in all but name.

[[Jerome Randall Zarek]] and [[Karen Sue Zarek]] are a young married couple working as [[nitrassium]] miners outside [[Sagittaron City]]. They were both slaves that were freed, only to be forced back into their old jobs despite the promise of Cylon liberation. Despite this, they manage to live relatively happy lives - until one day, their plans to spend an evening playing cards with friends are overturned by the mine foreman's announcement that Cylon rebels have declared [[Cylon War|war]] and attacked [[Caprica]].

A year into the war, the government still refuses to admit it's a war, referring to it as "hostilities." The Colonial government launches a "re-population incentive program" where they will pay each couple that has children. Despite Karen's hesitation, the second anniversary of the war's start sees the birth of Thomas J. Zarek.

When Zarek is aged two, Karen develops a sickness due to nitrassium exposure and is unable to work. Jerome works twice as hard to support his family; his friends in the mine launch a labor strike to protest the government's brutality, but he is forced to abandon his friends effort to make enough money to keep his family alive.

Zarek's first memory comes at age three, when his family takes a day and goes on a visit to Sagittaron City - the same day Cylon forces invade the city but are driven away by [[Colonial Marines]].

By the age of ten, the Cylon War is apparently over and Zarek is in school. When a military recruiter arrives, Zarek asks why anyone would want to join the service. The labor strikes during the war have served some good, as the miners only need to work four days a week. However, there is still a strict curfew in effect, and the government has refused to give Karen any more of the medicine she needs. Jerome desperately tries to steal some from a pharmacy after curfew, but is caught by a Colonial Marine and killed when the soldier mistakenly believes that he is reaching for a gun.

The Colonial Military admits "some degree of error" in the shooting, and Karen recieves a small pension and a lifetime supply of medicine. Combined with a surprise life insurance plan Jerome had negotiated, she and Tom are able to move out of Sagittaron City to a suburb, [[Perseus Village]]. Karen starts a small independent trade union, [[Citizens for Sagittaron Labor Reform]], that gradually becomes a huge, world-famous organization that sends her into direct conflict with [[Devon Morehead]], the Sagittaron [[Minister of Labor]]. Tom is enrolled in a private academy but expelled when, after becoming enraged at the revisionist history being taught, denounces his teacher and burns his history book, to the delight of his classmates. Karen tells him that he needs to choose his battls, and has him join her at the union.

Zarek takes an increasing interest in his mother's job and becomes her aide, taking on more and more of her responsibilities. Her health deteriorates, but she does not die natually; at a rally, Karen is assassinated by secuirty guards. At his parent's monument, Zarek vows that he will avenge them, and that his revolution has just begun.
==Dynamite==
Starting in May 2006 Dynamite began releasing a comic series based on the [[Re-Imagined Series]]. The comics are set within the framework of the show and, at least at first, are set between the episodes of ''[[Home, Part II]]'' and ''[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]''. Beginning in late September 2006 Dynamite will also be releasing a comic series based on the [[TOS|original series]]. In October 2006, a miniseries focusing on the character [[Tom Zarek]] from the re-imagined series will be released, focusing on Zarek's past.

This is a listing of '''continuity errors''' in the [[Re-imagined Series]].

== Acknowledged Mistakes ==

*At the end of "'''''[[Home, Part II]]'''''", when everyone is looking at the map to [[Earth]] in the [[Tomb of Athena]], Lee points out the Lagoon Nebula in one of the constellations shown in the sky. Lee says, and the visual FX show the nebula located in Scorpio, but it is actually in the constellation Sagitarius. Ron Moore and David Eick acknowledge the error in their podcast commentary of the episode but no attempt is made to correct it.
*At the beginning of "'''''[[Downloaded]]'''''" two captions are shown: one states that the Cylon Attack in the Miniseries occurred nine months before the current episode (which is consistent with the other episodes in Season 2.5), while the second reads "10 weeks ago", and then shows [[Cally]] shooting [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|"Boomer" Valerii]] in the past episode, "'''''[[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]'''''". However, it is impossible for this to have happened "10 weeks before 9 months after the attack": 9 months = 270 days. There is another plaque in the episode "'''''[[Epiphanies]]'''''" which clearly states on screen that that episode took place on Day 189. There are 70 days in 10 weeks. 70 days before Day 270 would be around Day 200; well after "Epiphanies", which was the ninth episode ''following'' "Resistance". In response to this serious error being brought to the forefront, the title card of the DVD and international television releases has been changed to "10 weeks later", meaning 10 weeks after [[Number Six|Number Six's]] rebirth.
*In "''''''[[Scar]]'''''" Starbuck and Kat fly [[Viper Mark VII]]s but the launch in the originally aired episode showed a [[Viper Mark II]]. This has been fixed in the DVD release which now includes a new, but somewhat shorter, launch sequence with the Mk VIIs.<br/> A few previous episodes like "'''''[[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]'''''" only use the Mk II sequence, but both types of Vipers are deployed by ''Galactica''.
*'''''[[Exodus, Part I]]''''': At the end of "[[Precipice]]" we see Cally clearly in the woods when the gunfire is going off. At the time we watch Tyrol and his group take aim at the [[Cylon Centurion]], Cally had not reached the wooded area by the time gunfire sounded. Further, when the gunfire begins in "[[Precipice]]", Tyrol is at the firing position, far from Cally, while in "[[Exodus, Part I]]" he is holding her to the ground when it begins.

== Retcons ==
*'''[[Season two timeline discontinuity]]''': All episodes before Season 2.5 (starting with "[[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]") seem to indicate that Season 2.5 begins 3-4 months after the Cylon attack. However, "Resurrection Ship, Part I" and all subsequent Season 2.5 episodes indicate that "Resurrection Ship, Part I" began 6 months after the Cylon attack. See the main article for more detailed analysis. There are 3 main points of discontinuity:
**[[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Caprica-Valerii]] is not visibly pregnant in "[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]", but by "[[Epiphanies]]", roughly 2-3 weeks later, she appears to be in her second trimester.
**The presidential elections in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]" are said to take place 9 months after the attack, when throughout Season 1 it was consistently said to be 7 months after the Cylon attack.
**If all of the dates mentioned in each episode are counted up, "Pegasus" only occurs roughly three months post-attack, not six.
* '''[[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet numbers]]''': In the [[Miniseries]], a total of 40 [[FTL]] ships (led by Roslin) rendezvous with ''Galactica'' at [[Ragnar Anchorage]]. This makes the count 41 ships, including ''Galactica''. However, this number was enlarged for the series. In "[[33]]," Dualla states: "Jump 237 underway... 53 ships have jumped, 10 still reporting trouble with their FTL drives, including Colonial One." In ''[[You Can't Go Home Again]]'', Colonel Tigh mentions the Cylons searching for "a sixty-odd ships". The count offered in "[[The Farm]]" was similar - 24 ships had left to join Roslin's fleet, which was "almost a third" of the fleet, putting the number at about 75.
*'''The ''[[Astral Queen]]''''': In the [[Miniseries]], [[Billy Keikeya]] stated to [[Laura Roslin]] that the captain had 500 prisoners in his cargo hold, and that the ''Queen'' was a cargo vessel transporting prisoners to a prison. In "[[Bastille Day]]", [[Billy Keikeya]]'s lines were re-dubbed: '''1,500''' prisoners were aboard the ''Queen'', that the ''Queen'' was a '''prison transport'''. [[Lee Adama]] would go on to later state that the ''Queen'' was en route to [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]] during the [[Cylon attack]] for parole hearings.
*'''[[Cylon Detector]]''': In the episode "[[Flesh and Bone]]", it takes only minutes to identify [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|"Boomer" Valerii]] as a Cylon. However, in "[[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]", he states that complete testing on one sample of blood takes 11 hours.
**This could be because a negative result takes 11 hours to confirm but a positive result potentially may be more instant. Most colonials, it would be reasonable to assume, would be negative.

== Danglers ==
*'''[[Caprica-Six|Caprica-Six]] Meeting''': In the [[Miniseries]], at the end of the scene where [[Number Six]] and [[Gaius Baltar]] walk through the park, Six says she has to meet someone. After Baltar walks away, she looks off-camera and says she had "been wondering when you'd get here." Cue a cut to ''Galatica''. Given that was the day of/before [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|the attack]], it seems unreasonable that the meeting was not related to the Cylon plans. Whomever she met could be another Cylon model(s). This has not been revisited.
*'''[[Tom Zarek|Zarek]]-[[Ellen Tigh|Tigh]] Plotline''': In the episode "[[Colonial Day]]", it is heavily implied that [[Ellen Tigh]] revealed the location of [[Valance]] to agents of [[Tom Zarek]], and that she intends for her husband, Colonel [[Saul Tigh]], to meet with Zarek's people in the near future. As of the start of the third season, this plotline has not been revisited and probably will never be in light of Ellen's death in "[[Exodus, Part II]]".
*'''Zarek-[[Black Market]] Plotline''': Similarly, the end of "[[Black Market]]" implies that Zarek has assumed some measure of influence in that organization. This also has yet to be revisited.
*'''[[Demand Peace]]''': The pro-Cylon terrorist faction that sprung up in the fleet during "[[Epiphanies]]" has yet to resurface as well. The episode concluded without any firm resolution regarding the fate of the movement and its leader [[Royan Jahee]], however their base of operations, ''[[Cloud 9]]'', was destroyed by [[Gina]] in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]". The plotline of "Epiphanies" implies that the group is gearing up for a full-scale campaign against [[William Adama|Admiral Adama]]'s military and [[Laura Roslin|President Roslin]]'s government, but they are never seen again the fates of the group's members is not discussed later on.

== Recasting ==
*'''[[Zak Adama]]''': In the [[Miniseries]], a different actor was pictured as Zak Adama. In "[[Act of Contrition]]", a new actor portrayed Zak, and the picture was changed to reflect the casting choice.
*'''Ellen Tigh''': Same with Zak Adama. The picture of Saul Tigh's wife, which Tigh had burned a hole through, was originally a picture of [[David Eick]]'s wife. When [[Kate Vernon]] was cast as Ellen in "[[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]", the image was changed.
*'''[[Richard Adar]]''': In the miniseries, [[:md:Image:Bsg-baltar-adar.jpg|portrayed]] by [[David Eick]] in a photograph in Baltar's domicile on Caprica. The role was recast as Colm Feore for the episode, "[[Epiphanies]]."

== VFX Gaffes ==
[[Image:1104reverse Scattered.JPG|thumb|left|Mirrored shot of Viper 1104 ([[Scattered]]).]]
*'''''[[Miniseries]]''''': [[Viper 1104]] must be the most prolific Viper in existence. No less than three copies are present at the [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage]]. Of these, one is crash landed by [[Kara Thrace|Lieutenant Thrace]], one destroyed by Cylon fire, and one successfully landed on [[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]].
*'''''[[Miniseries]]''''' and '''''[[33]]''''': As ''[[Galactica]]'' prepares to jump to [[Ragnar Anchorage]], the flight pods retract. As the ship jumps, the pods are not retracted. When ''Galactica'' has jumped to [[Ragnar Anchorage]] the pods are retracted again. This same footage was shown during the opening titles of ''33''.
*'''''[[33]]''''': As the Cylon Centurion approaches Helo from behind, you can see the rain hitting it, but it does not drip off the Warrior's body. In contrast, water is dripping from Helo's face in a fairly consistent and noticeable manner.
*'''''[[You Can't Go Home Again]]''''': Before searching for [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]], [[Lee Adama]] climbs into a Viper Mk VII, although he is shown piloting a Mk II in all other VFX shots.
*'''''[[Season 1 (2004-05)|Amid Season 1]]''''': Half-way through season 1, the ''[[Colonial One]]'' CG model was updated and the seal of the President of the Colonies was added to the hull. However, the reuse of stock footage from the Miniseries and earlier in the first season cause the seal to continually disappear and reappear in the same episode depending on what shot is used.
*'''''[[Scattered]]''''': A shot of '''Viper 1104''' is mirrored accidentally.
*'''''[[Flight of the Phoenix]]''''':
**[[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] and Pilot numbers. 42 Vipers are deployed at a time when no more than 34 could have been serviceable, and with no more than 25 pilots available.
**[[Blackbird]]. As the [[Great Cylon Turkey Shoot]] begins, the [[Blackbird]] (still incomplete, unflown, and missing its composite skin by this point) can be seen swooping across the screen in a manner inconsistent with its flight characteristics; the ship was built for speed, not maneuverability. The ship also fires what appears to be autocannons, which is wholly incorrect, as the Blackbird is unarmed except in its [[Resurrection Ship, Part II|final mission]].
*'''''[[The Captain's Hand]]''''': As [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] leads [[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus']] [[Viper Mark VII|Viper Mk VIIs]] into combat, a cockpit shot of her mistakenly shows [[Viper Mark II|Viper Mk IIs]] around her ship.

==Prop and Equipment Errors==
[[Image:2276gaff Mini.JPG|thumb|Maj Spencer in Viper 2276 ([[Miniseries]]).]]
*[[Miniseries]]:
**An [[wikipedia:F-16 Fighting Falcon|F-16 Fighting Falcon]] is visible in a picture in Adama's quarters when he and Colonel Tigh discuss Starbuck striking Tigh. However, this could be a tribute, the F-16 is sometimes called "Viper" by its pilots.
**The Viper Mk. VII flown by Major Spencer during the first sortie ([[Miniseries]]) is still marked as "Viper 2276NC" which is the Viper flown by Captain Lee Adama to ''Galactica''.
**As [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|"Boomer" Valerii]] takes off from [[Caprica]] with the civilians in the [[Raptor]], just after [[Helo]] shoots the civilian who jumps on to the wing, the camera points to Boomer, where viewers can see in the window reflection the crane that is hoisting the [[Raptor]] mockup into the air.
**When Starbuck's Viper is hit during the second sortie ("I'm all right"), her helmet is unsealed and open.
**Similarly, Lee Adama's collar is opened when he scolds her for being "beyond insane" as Thrace pushing Adama's Viper into ''Galactica's'' [[flight pod]] at the end of the [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage|last battle at Ragnar]].
*''[[33]]'':
**When [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]] admits that she lost the ''[[Olympic Carrier]]'', her headset changes sides during the conversation.
**As Helo fires upon the Cylon Centurion that survives the detonation of an anti-personnel mine (similar to a [[Wikipedia:Claymore mine|Claymore mine]]), the first time Helo fires the pistol, it is heard to fire, but there is no accompanying visual spark from the barrel. In contrast, the second shot is accompanied by both a spark and the appropriate sound.
**After the disappearance of the ''Olympic Carrier'' in Jump 238, with the timer running towards the 33 minute mark, the viewer can see that the clock is at 10 seconds. When focusing on Adama and Tigh, the viewer hears ten seconds counting off, but when the camera quick-pans to the overhead console, it reads that 3 seconds have passed.
**Before the clock reaches zero in the pre-title sequence, a wide shot of [[CIC]] is shown with Adama and Tigh standing at the central console. The timer on the screen above their heads is flashing 00:00:00.
*''[[Six Degrees of Separation]]'': The special-effects group for the Re-imagined Series appear dedicated to creating computer screens, equipment and interfaces that are familiar to viewers, but aren't full counterparts to real-world Earth materials. However, the logo for NEC computer manufacturers can be seen on the monitors while [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]] is working on the photograph. Another similiar occurrance happens in "Sacrifice."
*''[[Colonial Day]]'': During the bar fight scene, [[Valance]]'s gun is shown with a silencer attached as it falls out of his briefcase, but the silencer is not present for the rest of the scene. The silencer is back when [[Valance]] is interrogated by Starbuck and Lee.
*''[[Valley of Darkness]]'': [[Kat]] finds a box of explosive rounds with only 6 shells. The shells in the container start out scattered within the box, but as the camera cuts back and forth in the scene the shells switch from organized to scattered many times.
*''[[Scar]]'': The little model plane on top of the "Top Gun" mug sported by Starbuck and Kat is actually an [[wikipedia:F/A-18 Hornet|F/A-18 Hornet]].
*''[[Sacrifice]]'':
**When Starbuck is getting the handguns out of her case, she still has the environmental engineer's hat on. When she quickly turns around with the guns and starts firing, her hat has disappeared without explanation.
**A computer mouse (a design created by [[Wikipedia:Microsoft|Microsoft]]) is seen connected to [[Sesha Abinell]]'s laptop computer.
* In several episodes characters wear the wrong rank insignia:
** ''[[The Hand of God]]'': [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] wears "Lieutenant j.g." (short chevron) insignia most of the time.
** ''[[Fragged]]'': [[Cally]] is wearing Petty Officer, 2nd Class instead of Crewman Specialist insignia.
** ''[[Home, Part I]]'' and ''[[Home, Part II]]'': [[Lee Adama|Apollo]] wears Major instead of Captains insignia.
** ''[[Scar]]'':
*** In the first scene in the recreation room [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] wears Lieutenant insignia despite having been promoted to Captain.
*** Some of the [[nuggets]] have Lieutenant insignia despite being addressed as Ensigns. The prop department hasn't produced any Ensign insignia yet.
*** ''[[The Captain's Hand]]'': [[Lee Adama|Apollo's]] insignia switch between Captain and Major a few times. Major is his correct rank at that time.
***''[[Hero]]'': In the flashback scenes in ''Valkyrie'''s CIC, Commander Adama is wearing an Admiral's insignia.
*''[[Exodus, Part II]]'': The [[DRADIS]] displays aboard ''Galactica'' and ''Pegasus'' are free of interference from the [[New Caprica]] nebula, even though it continued to be an obvious problem for both ships at the end of [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]].
*''[[The Passage]]'': [[Raymond Lai|Raymond "Raygun" Lai]]'s name appears on ''Galactica''’s flight roster. His name previously appeared on one of the 40 year-old Viper Mk. II's donated the ''Galactica'' museum during the [[Miniseries]].

<div style="clear: both;"></div>

==Dialogue Errors==
*'''[[Miniseries]]''':
**Tigh inexplicably exclaims "Jesus!" when shown the photo of Adama, Zak and Lee. Ron Moore has stated that this was just an ad-lib by the actor, and was never in the script, and should have been removed during editing.
** At the start of the episode, dialogue is retained from a draft script which placed the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]] actually on [[Kobol]], rather than spread among twelve worlds. The giveaway lines are spoken by [[Aaron Doral]] (played by [[Matthew Bennett]]):
**:"Now, as I was saying, form follows function, and nowhere is this axiom of design more readily apparent than on the ''world'' famous Battlestar Galactica... now originally there were twelve battlestars, each representing one of ''Kobol's twelve colonies''..."
*: Given the show is set among 12 different worlds, and Kobol is now regarded as the birthplace of humanity, abandoned at some point in the distant past, Doral should have used the words "worlds' famous", and simply referred to the original battlestars representing each of the Twelve Colonies. Still, within context it is impossible for the casual viewer to tell this is from an earlier script draft: each of the 12 human-colonized planets is a "colony" of the mother-planet Kobol.
**The singular "world" was also used by Starbuck when confessing her role in Zak's accidental death to Lee Adama. Bear in mind that "world" is an inexact term, and need not be synonymous with "planet", it can mean "the known universe". "World" literally means "age or life of man".
**When being informed by [[Six]] of her true nature and mission, [[Gaius Baltar]] exclaims "Oh, my God!" as opposed to "Gods".
**[[Jackson Spencer]] also makes this mistake after the Cylon Raiders launch missiles at his disabled squadron.
**The pronunciation of Lt. [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]]'s name frequently shifts between ''GAY-ta'' and ''GUY-ta'' during the Miniseries. Col. Tigh regularly calls him GUY-ta while Adama vacillates between GAY-ta and GUY-ta. From "[[33]]"-onward he is referred to by everyone as GAY-ta.
**When Leoben and Adama discuss the nature of the Cylons while navigating their way through Ragnar Anchorage Adama argues that "God didn't create the Cylons, Man did."
* ''[[33]]'': Helo states his rank as "Lieutenant, junior grade" despite consistently wearing "Lieutenant, senior grade" rank insignia
*''[[Scattered]]'': During the scene on Caprica , Helo exclaims "for God Sakes" instead of the more Colonial "for Gods' Sakes" or Cylon "for God's Sake".
*''[[Downloaded]]'': In the [[Miniseries]], [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]] claims that her parents died while she was very young. In "[[Downloaded]]" she explains that she received a gift from her mother when she left for the Fleet academy.

==Crew Visible==
[[Image:Gaffcrew klgpII.JPG|thumb|left|Crew member visible ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]])]]
*A member of the production crew, possibly a boom operator, is visible on screen in "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]". He can be seen behind the damaged wall behind the display of the [[Arrow of Apollo]].
Hey all, I'm the webmaster of bsgtns.com and one of the owners of MediaBlvd. We think this is a pretty cool thing that you have here, and would like to offer up some server space for a mirror. MB has 6 high end servers, and good deals on bandwidth. I might be missing how to go about that, as I'm fairly new to this space. I did want to say that I really like the concept though, and I spent several hours going thru the Wiki yesterday, and liked what I saw enough to want to be involved-- NetRanger
== Editing freezes ==

Just want to get some feedback from the admins on this, but how do we feel about continuing the short-term editing freezes on episode articles during airing? Are they helping us or are we just doing ourselves a disservice? Thoughts? -- [[User:Joe Beaudoin Jr.|Joe Beaudoin]] [[User talk:Joe Beaudoin Jr.|So say we all]] - [[Battlestar Wiki:Site support|Donate]] 21:48, 4 December 2006 (CST)
:It seems like that'd be peak time for people to contribute... unfortunately, it is. I've got no magic bullet ideas. One idea is subpages for different sections that get transcluded onto the main page. But that'd only divide the problem by 4 or 5 and there'd still be contention on those 4 or 5 subpages. Is there any way to lock it to normal editing (to avoid contention) but still allow input-box style contributions (like the Reference desk "ask a question")? That way we could still get the additions people are dying to add, but people wouldn't be locking over each other. I'm not sure if that'd save any performance, though, or whether it's possible to lock out normal editing but still allow the input. Maybe the episode of the week should get its OWN dedicated server for that day... ;) --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 22:21, 4 December 2006 (CST)
:::Per Mercifull, using the talk page to work out differences before allowing edits to the article has to be somewhat helpful. Maybe have a "talk" page for each section. This would help eliminate the "forum behavior" that the Analysis Section has been affected by lately. These talk page could be combined into one. Also, an easier idea it to just set up the talk pages with sections like the episode article and then archive as needed. --[[User:Gougef|FrankieG]] 09:18, 5 December 2006 (CST)
::::My only concern is that the talk page of the article would be just as subject to locking/contention/edit conflict as the main article is (which is the main reason for the freeze, I think). --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 09:20, 5 December 2006 (CST)
::Personally, I think it should continue. I noticed once the episode guide was locked, people editing other articles spreadings out the load that needed to be updated because of the episode elements. :::Those are some good points. Editing the episode airing shouldn't come at the cost of killing the server for people wanting to read/edit other articles, and I like the idea of keeping all the character articles, etc. up to date sooner. Perhaps an "Episode in Progress" template should be developed (if one doesn't already exist) to explain to users what's going on, why, and what they can do in the meantime (edit other pages, add stuff to user pages, etc. to be pasted later, or whatever).--[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 11:09, 5 December 2006 (CST)
I agree that the locking should continue. A wild suggestion (probably not feasible) is that if someone wants to get a head start is to create a user page like [[User:Gougef/Unfinished Business]]. This would allow people to get a headstart on formatting their entries and may lend itself to having discussions to iron out differences before actual editing occurs. I know just a wild-a** idea. --[[User:Gougef|FrankieG]] 15:45, 6 December 2006 (CST)
:Actually, I think it's a pretty good idea. (In fact, I think some chump above mentioned that among suggestions of things that the users can do in the meantime on the lock template.) My only concern is that it may be more complex and abstract than most users will want to deal with. Creating a new page (even if it's just in your own namespace) is a scary process for most. Maybe if there was some way that the template could have a link that would autocreate a nicely named article (username/episode name) and some sort of a mini-template that people could use (if they wanted) to create the standard sections (summary, questions, analysis, etc.). It still sounds complicated, though, especially to people used to being able to edit anything and have the instant gratification of seeing your changes reflected in the article. I guess I'd be in favor of the practice (and the creation of a mini-template), but I'm unsure of the likelihood general adoption. --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 15:54, 6 December 2006 (CST)
:I like the idea of a subpage... however, I don't think it would be generally adopted by non-diehard wiki users, but it wouldn't hurt to try it. I would also like to mention that I rather like the idea of locking down the page during air, as I think it helps in removing conflicts and allowing a rest period for people to digest the episode and approach working on the entry with a more thoughtful approach. -- [[User:Joe Beaudoin Jr.|Joe Beaudoin]] [[User talk:Joe Beaudoin Jr.|So say we all]] - [[Battlestar Wiki:Site support|Donate]] 22:54, 6 December 2006 (CST)
'''Louanne "Kat" Katraine''' is a young woman with some flying experience. She was selected as a candidate pilot ("[[nugget]]") for Viper training under the command of Lieutenant [[Kara Thrace|Kara "Starbuck" Thrace]] ([[Act of Contrition]]). While she may still be a new pilot, she has a taste for fighting, and is often on the front lines when ''[[Galactica]]'' engages [[Cylon]] forces.

== Biography ==

Katraine is selected from relative obscurity to become one of ''[[Galactica|Galactica's]]'' first intake of trainee pilots after 13 experienced pilots were killed in a freak accident ([[Act of Contrition]]).

Described as a "boonie jumper", Katraine is placed under the instruction of [[Kara Thrace]], alongside nugget pilots [[Brendan Constanza]] and [[Perry]], with whom she forms a friendship.

Thrown in at the deep end - flying [[Viper (RDM)|Vipers]] on their very first day of training, none of the nuggets perform particularly well - Kat in particular fails to make a [[Combat landing|combat landing]] on ''Galactica''. Thrace washes out the entire group of candidates until Commander [[William Adama]] later forces Thrace to reinstate them.

Katraine's training continues until she is selected to fly with [[Lee Adama]] during a raid to secure a [[tylium]] mine from the Cylons ([[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]). Her fellow nuggets [[Perry]] and [[Stepchild]] are killed in this action, but she and [[Brendan Constanza|Hot Dog]] survive and are greeted as heroes on their return to ''Galactica''.

Kat participates in the defense of ''Galactica'' when the battlestar becomes separated from [[The Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]], and has to face down a Cylon [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]] in order to relocate it ([[Scattered]]).

After Lee Adama's defection to the [[Laura Roslin faction]], his replacement, the newly promoted Captain [[George Birch]] negligently endangers Katraine during a training exercise. She is almost killed when Birch incorrectly directs her to attack an asteroid target as [[Brendan Constanza|Hot Dog]] fires a missile at the target. Katraine's improving piloting skills save her from a dangerous collision with debris ([[Home, Part I]]).

Kat is later promoted from cadet to the rank of Lieutenant. She becomes increasingly exhausted with the mounting pressures of service in the Fleet with long hours, constant danger, and no possiblity of reinforcement. While trying to combat her fatigue, Kat becomes dependent on [[stims]], of which the effects of their overuse make her emotionally unstable. She "moons" a documentary crew for her "buddies" on [[Freighter 212]], berates Chief [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]] for mechanical failures that are beyond his control, and later crashes her Viper into the [[landing bay]], totalling the vehicle ([[Final Cut]], [[Flight of the Phoenix]]). She is pulled from flight status for some time, but is reinstated by the time that the advanced battlestar ''Pegasus'' joins the Fleet , when she flies wingman to [[Lee Adama|Apollo]] on [[CAP]] when first contact is made with ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''.

In the wake of Admiral Cain's integration of ''Galactica'' and ''Pegasus''' officers, Kat appears to have been made the acting-CAG of the ''Galactica'' flight team. With Starbuck and Apollo both transferred to ''Pegasus'' and the failure of Cpt. [[George Birch]] as [[CAG]] during Lee Adama's absence, Katraine appears to be the most likely choice to fill the command vacuum. She is flight leader of the Viper wing that stands off against the ''Pegasus'' Vipers. In spite of making repeated requests for firing clearance, she manages to keep the situation from degenerating into a fire fight, and avoids several collision attempts in the fighters' deadly "chicken" game, each attempting to force the other side to fire first ([[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]).

On day 189 of the human exodus, Kat is assigned CAP with [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]]. Kat's maturity and past insensitivity show growth when Starbuck orders her to stop her small talk about Starbuck's off-hours behavior, which Kat does so without skipping a beat and returns to business by requesting permission to do a weapons check. As Kat test-fires her Viper's guns, an ammo misfire destroys Kat's port gun and sends debris at Starbuck's Viper, cracking her cockpit window. The two declare an emergency and safely return to ''Galactica.'' The cause of the malfunction was soon determined to be sabotage later blamed on a civiilan ammunition worker that is part of the "[[Demand Peace]]" movement ([[Epiphanies]]).

Katraine is more than personally upset with Starbuck's apparent behavior issues--and doesn't really care. While Kat obviously admires Kara Thrace, she tires quickly of Starbuck's drinking and bragging, which is affecting her work, and in turn affecting the pilots, especially the [[nugget]]s. Fed up with Starbuck's lording over the "Top Gun" beer stein as well as the rampaging Raider ace known as "[[Scar (Raider)|Scar]]," Kat makes a bet with Starbuck on who will destroy the morale-sucking Raider first.

Kat manages pilot combat reviews, having become a highly skilled tactical pilot herself. She grimaces at Starbuck's inefficiencies and chimes in often to correct or chide Starbuck, much to Thrace's chagrin. Things come to a head in their rivalry when Kat openly criticizes Starbuck for substituting [[Jo-Jo]] for patrol rather than flying herself (she awoke that morning hungover and unable to fly). Jo-Jo and his wingman are both killed, and Kat is incensed. But instead of Starbuck delivering the first punch, it's Kat that delivers it. Their fight is interrupted by Captain [[Lee Adama|Adama]], who orders them on patrol near the [[Big Spud]]. Kat and Starbuck find Scar, and Starbuck's Viper is damaged in a near-successful ambush. The consummate wingman, Kat continually speaks to Starbuck to get a bearing, although Starbuck resists out of pride rather than working jointly to destroy Scar. When Starbuck realizes that because of [[Samuel Anders]] she doesn't want to die in order to take Scar with her, she guides Kat in to her position, where Kat delivers the killing blow to Scar.

Kat chides Starbuck once more in the pilot's recreation room as she held the Top Gun mug. Starbuck pours champagne in the mug and tells Kat, "You've earned it." Kat's slight smile in response was not only that of smugness, but also that of honor--for Starbuck to tell her that she was (at least for the time being) the best--is pleasing as a master would compliment a student ([[Scar]]). Kat's smugness was short-lived, as Starbuck offered a toast to all the pilots who have died during their flight from the colonies. Overwhelmed with the memory of lost comrades, Kat nearly burst into tears.

By the time of the Cylon invasion of [[New Caprica]], with Lee Adama in command of the ''Pegasus'' and Kara Thrace having left the fleet and settled planetside, Katraine has been promoted to ''Galactica'''s [[CAG]] ([[Exodus, Part I]]). During the [[Battle of New Caprica]], she leads a group of Vipers escorting decoy [[Raptor]]s, and presumably assists in the defense of ''Galactica'' in the following space battle ([[Exodus, Part II]]). Following the destruction of ''Pegasus'', Lee Adama returns to ''Galactica'' and replaces Katraine as the CAG, who in turn becomes the leader of [[Blue Squadron (RDM)|Blue Squadron]] ([[Torn]]).

In the episode [[The Passage]], Kat dies after succumbing to radiation poisoning, after swapping radiation badges with Helo, so she could fly more to get ships food. We also learn that her first name is actually Sasha, she took the name 'Louanne Katraine' from a girl who died two days before the attack, and she was a drug runner on Caprica working for a person named Enzo. She tells this to Kara Thrace, who is angered, and blames Kat for letting Cylons infiltrate Caprica. On her deathbed, Admiral Adama promotes Kat to CAG, before telling her how the situation reminds him of when his son, Zac was born. The episode ends when Kara Thrace tacks a picture of Kat to the wall of remembrance.

==Notes==
*Katraine's first name, Louanne, was revealed in the episode "[[Final Cut]]" during her inteview with [[D'anna Biers]].
*Some of Kat's family may also have survived the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]] - Kat shouted "Hi, Mom!" while waving into the camera in "[[Final Cut]]". However, she may have been speaking facetiously.
*In the DVD commentary for "[[Act of Contrition]]", David Eick and Ron D. Moore elaborate on the increased role of the nugget pilots as the series progressed:

:Eick: This young actress playing Kat has proven to be--and there's Bodie Olmos, Eddie's son, in the center there who's Hot Dog, he's also become a recurring character.
:RDM: Well those three in the front, [[Chuckles]], [[Hot Dog]], and Kat, they all became "pilots" to us. And I don't think we really had any expectation of that. The idea was we were going to do "the nuggets", "the new pilots", was just going to be its own kind of story, and ''maybe'' you might see one of these guys again later. And what started happening is the writers just started putting them in, like almost every scene that we dealt with the pilots (of Galactica) so these ''became'' our "recognizable faces".
:Eick: Kat is quite fine. She's someone we're now talking about, and have already, built into a much more prominent character. She's just a really, really talented actor, and she's someone who in a very different way than Katee (Starbuck), just exemplifies that sort of masculine fortitude, despite being a woman, that is required to be a pilot like this. In one of the upcoming episodes ([[Scar]]), we're actually going to deal with the tension between Kara Thrace and Kat.
:RDM: Yeah, what happens when your protege starts outdistancing you. What happens when you train this young pilot, and it's great that she's a hot shot and all that, and then wait a minute, what if she starts being better than you?
'''Louanne "Kat" Katraine''' is a young woman with some flying experience. She was selected as a candidate pilot ("[[nugget]]") for Viper training under the command of Lieutenant [[Kara Thrace|Kara "Starbuck" Thrace]] ([[Act of Contrition]]). While she may still be a new pilot, she has a taste for fighting, and is often on the front lines when ''[[Galactica]]'' engages [[Cylon]] forces.

== Biography ==

Katraine is selected from relative obscurity to become one of ''[[Galactica|Galactica's]]'' first intake of trainee pilots after 13 experienced pilots were killed in a freak accident ([[Act of Contrition]]). She says hello to her mother when being filmed by [[D'anna Biers]], suggesting she may still be alive among the fleet ([[Final Cut]]).

It's most likely a flashback. Maybe Adama and Tigh served on the Valkyrie and that's where [[Bulldog]] was under Adama's command. I can't really make out the rank pins.
Another question, in 8 of 9 shot on that webpage, I am guessing its a flashback scene because Lee is wearing Captain's pips, but he also has a Battlestar Galactica badge on his shoulder. Now, for the time being, does ''Valkyrie'' go down as a ''Valkyrie''-type Battlestar (until someone at the "Head Office" finally tells us details like this)? I '''''especially''''' like how ''Galactica'', ''Pegasus'', and now ''Valkyrie'' are all different styles and sizes, but yet are still classified as ''battlestars''. This shows a degree of realism, creativity, and dynamicism among our intrepid Powers That Be &mdash; they're not going to pull the weak, canned trick of reusing the same model over and over and over again, ad nauseum. Also, ''hopefully'', it stomps on ''any'' musings amongst certain overzealous fans of such genres as Star Wars and Star Trek who have this bad habit of immediately speculating and squabbling over if a ship is a battleship, destroyer, frigate, etc. In this case, it would seem that, regardless of size and/or layout, a battlestar is a battlestar is a battlestar. End of line.

On that note, it would appear that ''Valkyrie'' is infact smaller than ''Galactica'', perhaps with reduced capabilities (weapons and embarked Vipers and Raptors quantities, etc.), less crew. It would also appear that she has less engines in her differently shaped array, which would make sense for a smaller, less massive starship.

Lastly, and unrelated to ''Valkyrie'' directly, that stealth recon craft was ''badass'', wasn't it? -- [[User:Hawke|Hawke]] 23:49, 17 November 2006 (CST)

I'm not so sure that the Valkyrie is a less capable ship than the Galactica. From what Tigh said about Adama's "graceful retirement' it seems that the Valkyrie was actually a pretty prestigious command. I had always thought that commanding the Galactica was a great honor, but Tigh's words seem to indicate otherwise. Ships tend to get smaller as the technology progresses because of the reduced manpower requirement. Perhaps the smaller size of the Valkyrie is an indication of this. Theres no real numbers for the dimensions of the Valkyrie or anything to scale it to, but I also got the sense that it was smaller than the Pegasus or Galactica. --[[User:Antagonist|Antagonist]] 02:16, 18 November 2006 (CST)

:I disagree with that. A smaller ship is going to have less physical space to carry fighter craft and supplies. If ''Valkyrie'' is smaller than ''Galactica'' and ''Pegasus'', then its gun batteries are smaller, which means they're firing lighter shells, which translates into less penetration, smaller warheads, less damage. A smaller ship has less volume to absorb damage with, meaning less staying power in a battle.
:That doesn't mean it can't still be a prestigious command, though. If it were a very new ship, even if it weren't the most powerful, it would still be a plum assignment.--[[User:Grin Reaper|Grin Reaper]] 07:08, 18 November 2006 (CST)
::That's not always completely true. For example, the modern Arleigh Burke (DDG-51) class destroyer is about 500 feet long. It's replaced the 560 foot long Spruance and Kidd class destroyers and is also much more powerful than the old Long Beach (721 fl) and other old cruisers. It's almost as powerful as the other current surface warship, the Ticonderoga class cruiser, built on a Spruance hull. The only reason our modern carriers are so much larger than the old WWII bird farms, is that the planes are much larger now than they were back then. For instance, the lightweight F/A-18E Super Hornet is about 30,000lbs empty and 60 feet long. The old F6F Hellcat is 42 feet long and weighs under 10,000lbs. In conclusion, Valkryie, even smaller, could be much more powerful than the older Galactica. --[[User:Talos|Talos]] 09:09, 18 November 2006 (CST)
:::But considering the timeframe, they aren't using radically different weapons and planes. Probably standard Mk VII Vipers or maybe MkVIs or whatever.
:::I think it's sort of like the escort carriers of WWII. Not usually meant to operate alone, but to give support to larger carriers, protect ships and support planetary operations. A support ship in Battlestar Groups that have a fullsized battlestar as main ship --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 09:24, 18 November 2006 (CST)
::::That reminds me of a point I forgot, the Mk II and Mk VII are of similar sizes, they can be launched from the same tubes and stored in the same parking spots on the hanger deck. I'm thinking the Valkyrie is like the USS Wasp which was a miniture Yorktown, a small light carrier that can operate with the fleet carriers. The only difference is that the Valkryie would be more advanced than Galactica, instead of old and ineffective like the Wasp. --[[User:Talos|Talos]] 09:38, 18 November 2006 (CST)
::I find myself nodding in gleeful agreement to [[User:Talos|Talos]] and [[User:Serenity|Serenity's]] comments, but I must reply to [[User:Grin Reaper|Grin Reaper's]] first &mdash; you're using the "bigger is better" mentality, and this is one of the two issues that burns at the heart of the fight amongst Star Wars fans on the topic of warships (and classification thereof, but I'll mention that later). Bigger ''is not'' better. Better is better. Different is better. Just because ''Valkyrie'' is smaller (hypothetically speaking for the sake of example) doesn't mean she carries smaller weapons. From the recollection scenes alone, we can see that she has weaponry different, and in different locations, than ''Galactica''. The elder battlestar lumps her primary "turrets" dorsalside and ventralside, and has her "flak-guns" lining the midline and flight pods. ''Valkyrie'', by contrast, had turrets on the pods themselves, akin to ''Pegasus''. I don't want to chase specifics, but focus on the point that differences are ''good'' &mdash; they're human; they're to be expected; they're in realistic keeping.
::It could be said that, perhaps, ''Valkyrie'' was as Talos and Serenity say, a lighter, more purposeful version of a battlestar for an accompaniment or specialized role. Less mass would mean that she'd require less engines in her array, and perhaps have greater velocities/accelerations. She'd require less crew. While still operating the same craft as any other battlestar, she ''might'' have less of them. Who knows? The point is, she's different, but ''still a battlestar''.
::I bring in two examples from history: the case of the HMS ''Hood'' (ca. 1940) and the battleships of the US Navy during WWII. In ''Hood's'' story, she was, when WWII rolled around, the largest, longest warship in the British Navy, and was 262m long at 48,000 tonnes full load. By contrast, the ''Queen Elizabeth''-class battleships were 197m at 33,000 tonnes. Both ships carried the same 15-in gun. Then, we throw in another WWII-era battleship, the ''King George V''-class, which was 227m at 42,000 tonnes &mdash; but sported 14-in guns because the Admiralty, at the time, felt that a more quantitive broadside (10 over 8 or 9) would be more effective than the larger 15-in guns. I'm not going to get into a running argument over details, but bring this up to point out that all three were battleships (''Hood'' was termed a ''battlecruiser'', but the point stands), built by the ''same country'' in roughly a short period of time (within approximately 30 years), and all were used under similar circumstances, to varying success and failure. Similarly, the United States had their "holdover" dreadnaught-style battleships at the opening of WWII, but then churned out the ''New Mexico''-class, the ''South Dakota''-class, ''North Carolina''-class, and ''Iowa''-class. Each was indeed a battleship, but definitely different in terms of size, traits, and capabilities.
::Yes, I may be getting a bit long-winded for such a trivial subject, but I can't express enough how ''different'' this great series is from Star Trek and Star Wars. Until proven otherwise, there aren't any carriers, battleships, cruisers, frigates, destroyers, corvettes, torpedo boats, etc. &mdash; there are ''battlestars'', and a battlestar is a battlestar is a battlestar, albeit in different shapes, forms, and sizes. -- [[User:Hawke|Hawke]] 11:26, 18 November 2006 (CST)
:::I'm thinking that it's just a smaller battlestar, fulfilling a similar role as the Mercuries and such on smaller displacement. Many realword navies are always attempting to do this. For example, before the Burke was finalized, various lightweight versions, sacrificing engines or Aegis, or other equipment, were designed. All of them tried to mimize displacement.The Treaty-era ships from the 1920-30's aren't the best examples to use here because they had an artificial limit imposed on them by the Washington and London Naval Treaties. Frequently, improved technology requires lesser manpower. The reason ships keep getting bigger historically is that they keep adding new technology, for instance, the cause of the massive destroyer size increase after WWII is mostly due to the inclusion of Weapon Alfa, guided missiles, and a huge increase in carried electronics. --[[User:Talos|Talos]] 12:27, 18 November 2006 (CST)
::::OK, let's not make too big a deal about the size. Here's a comparison of sizes of post-WWII aircraft carrier classess that I put together from wikipedia.org organized by when they were built:
CVL-48 Saipan class - 2 ships
14,500 tons

CVA-58 United States class - 1 ship
83,350 tons full, 68,000 tons standard

CV-59 Forrestal class - 4 ships
56,300 tons

CV-63 Kitty Hawk class - 3 ships
60,000 tons, 82,200 tons full load

CVN-65 Enterprise class - 1 ship
approx. 93,500 tons full load

CV-67 John F. Kennedy class - 1 ship
60728 tons light, 82655 tons full

CVN-68 Nimitz class - 9 ships
101,000 to 104,000 tons full load

CVN-78 21st Century Aircraft Carrier Project
100,000 tons

If we equate Galactica, an older ship, to the USS United States and the Valkyrie to Forrestal Class and Pegasus to a Nimitz class, then Galactica would be clearly larger than the Valkyrie and Pegasus would clearly be much larger than both. In the US Navy today, all these carriers have the exact same function, but vary in size by design and time. However, they are all aircraft carriers. --[[User:Straycat0|Straycat0]] 17:29, 18 November 2006 (CST)
:::[[User:Hawke|Hawke]], I don't understand where you're coming from. I never said ''Valkyrie'' wasn't a battlestar. I said that if it's smaller than ''Galactica'', then it cannot be as capable. It cannot carry the same amount of fighters because its flight pods are smaller. Its guns cannot be as large, and we know thanks to ''Pegasus'' that guns like the ones ''Galactica'' carries are still effective weapons. It will not be able to absorb as much damage due to its smaller size. I'm honestly not sure what most of your post has to do with any of that.--[[User:Grin Reaper|Grin Reaper]] 08:26, 19 November 2006 (CST)

I think its also worth remembering that Galactica is 60 years old, and one of the first 12 Battlestars. Therefore Valkyrie must be a newer ship, which is suggested by some of its more Pegasusish design nods. Therefore yes it can quite easily be more powerful than Galactica, simply by having more modern technology. Yes Galactica will of been refitted and such and such, but refitting can only get you so far. If Galactica was able to hold its own next to newer ships it wouldn't of been about to be decommissioned when the series started. The fact is we don't know when Pegasus and Valkeryie were built, except that both most of been built post-Galactica's. That's probably also why Galactica is looked upon so harshly by Tigh. Galactica may of been in the fleet as an old relic. An old rust bucket that should of been decommissioned years ago. --[[User:CTerry|CTerry]] 18:05, 18 November 2006 (CST)

My thought are that we could gage the scale of the Valkyrie to the Galactica and Pegasus by looking at the flightpods. The width of the "mouth" should be the same as they all support and operate the vehicles - Vipers, Raptors and shuttles. Oh and the Shadow Star, can't forget that new one. The "banner" on the deck of each flightpod could be the same dimensions for landing purposes. As for the guns, I saw the one in the "eye" of the Valkyrie, one behind it on the "body" and three on the flightpod like that of the Pegasus. Most seemed to have only one cannon, while the that's in the "eye" appeared, in the firing sequence, to have two cannon. Cannon that fired a powered missle. The Galactica and Pegasus appeared, to me, to have the same type of main gun. The placement was not the same though. I'v been also thinking of the Galactica as being like a World War 2 carrier, since it had "AA guns" but uprated for modern operation. The Pegasus was a product of more modern times and doesn't appear to have any "AA guns". Due to the guns on the Valkyrie, I'd guess that it was perhaps the most modern design. Those main guns could be a newer design then those on Pegasus, unless they are a new "caliber". In the long run, I have to agree that it appears to be smaller and serve a slightly different purpose in the BSG, maybe a battlescruiser type to the battleship type that Galactica and Pegasus play. I can't but also say that perhaps, these ships could be treated as ships-of-the-line as in the age of sail. Interesting design, pity we'll never get to see more of it, unless Zoic is kind and releases some orthos of it. Or maybe some book comes out with orthos of all the Colonial ships and craft.
[[User:Cat-Scratched-Victim|Cat-Scratched-Victim]] 22:08, 18 November 2006 (CST)

:I found some screencaps and came up with these numbers (assuming symmetry, which I thought reasonable, given other Colonial designs):
::1 x heavy gun turret in an alcove on either side of the head
::1 x Heavy gun turret in an alcove on either side of the main body, above the flight pods.
::3 x more alcoves on either side of the main body that may or may not contain heavy gun turrets; There weren't any shots close enough for me to be certain.
::1 x heavy gun turret on either side of the dorsal crest.
::2 x possible heavy gun turrets aft of the dorsal crest. The image was from too far awawy to be sure, but they look quite similar to the ones astride the crest.
::2 x heavy gun turrets on the dorsal surface of the flight-pods, one foreward and one aft.
::3 x light gun turrets in alcoves on the side of each flight-pod. There were only three in-frame in the picture I saw them in, but it also only covered the foreward part of the flight pod, so there could be more.
:Having no images of the ship's underside, there's no way to tell what armament she has there.
:As far as I could tell, all the heavy gun turrets had two barrels. The lighter gun turrets are harder to make out, but they appear to be twin-barreled emplacements as well. They are definately smaller than the heavy turrets, though.
:As for the armaments of ''Pegasus'' and ''Galactica'', the heavy turrets on both are indeed extremely similar in appearance. ''Both'' possess extensive flak suites of lighter, rapid-fire guns. Although I've been unable to visually identify any of the emplacements on ''Pegasus'', I've certainly seen them firing.
:The way I see it, ''Valkyrie'' is a much smaller design, fitted with commensurately smaller weaponry, meant to support the heavier ships in a BSG like the ''Mercury''-class. More of a cruiser to their battleship, than a battlecruiser.--[[User:Grin Reaper|Grin Reaper]] 08:26, 19 November 2006 (CST)
:I kinda thought Valkyrie was a smaller battlestar, much like the Independence class light carriers of World War II or the support carriers (CVS) that the WW II era Essex class ships became. Essentially these ships were designed to undertake missions that didn't warrant the use of a big carrier. The CVL Independence, for example, was one of the first carriers deployed for night operations. Essex and her sisters were used for antisubmarine and amphibious operations. If Valkyrie were a ship of this type it would make more sense for her to be assigned a black op, since arguably she would be a somewhat less threatening presence than a full sized battlestar, and she would also be more expendable if something went wrong. I propose the term "Light Battlestar" to describe this ship. :) [[User:Dallan007|Dallan007]] 20:44, 20 November 2006 (CST)
