My Predictions
Here's what I think we'll see tonight:
*Helo kills Athena so she can download and get Hera from the Cylons.
*Dualla goes Starbuck-hunting with Anders. They fall for each other, thus neatly wrapping up the Starbuck/Apollo/Anders/Dee love rectangle.
*Bill Adama nukes the bejeezus out of the algae planet. Chief, Cally, Barolay, and Bendis die. Everyone else makes it out on a heavy raider.
*The Final Five: Starbuck, Anders, Billy, Johnny Five, and Galvatron.
*Guest appearances by the SuicideGirls.

Concerning religion of the cylons and the colonies
Keeping Ron Moore's twists and turns from the original series I would like to suggest that
the Lords of Kobol and the "jealous" god, are for all intensive purposes the Cylons. They
are modeled after and therefore more directly linked to the deities say than Adama is "being Zeus" among the humans.
So much so that specific units have become avatars, perhaps posessed of a lord or at the very least
evolving an actual soul in likeness of a lord.

12 cylons = 12 olympians
Final Five - Temple of Five

The mystery of the final five hints to them being something other
that the existing models. Perhaps these five could not be replicated
like the others because of their conflict with the cylon god.

Clearly a more human "being" is developing in Deana in her search for enlightenment,
in Caprica in her search for Love and in Sharon in her self acceptance.
With Deanna the search for enlightenment became so overpweing
the entire line was boxed. With Sharon it's almost as if the humanity
Boomer clung to has moved to Agathon. Boomer is not the woman that
would not leave her human apartment after resurrecting,
but both have in their own fashion esentially accepted who they are.
Caprica appears in a constant state of conflict that many humans will relate to,
while her etherial counterpart is the self assured herald of her cylon maker.

For all the pagan references in the original series we still had Count Iblis
and the ship of lights taking on very familliar christan concepts of angels
and satan. Nothing is ever quite that black and white in the reimagined series.

While the reference has been fleeting, the notion of a god outside the
Lords of Kobol is clear, and he would be the cylons god. Dodona Selloi seems to refer to the cylon god as nothing more or less than a lord of kobol.
My thought is that somehow this jealous god has sort of ensnared the likeness perhaps even conciousness of the lords
in creating the cylon race, so closely that single copies become avatars of the lords.
The final five could be so possesed that they are not part of the cylon race,
refusing the mechanations of the cylon god. Others an avatar is what we see developing
in Sharon, Deanna and Caprica.

And even the cylon god, the Count Iblis whose voice was that of the imperious leader in the original series
has a model: Brother Cavel. Cavel is horribly wicked, he is always urging his fellow cylons
to the most horrific of actions. He appears out of nowhwere all the time. And yet, strangely,
he seems to honor the importance of free will in his dealings with his brother cylons, something you would expect of an
Abrahamic god. He's not Satan then who would rather rule in hell than serve in heaven,
he is just far more satanic or evil than any characterization offered by a member of
a known pantheon of gods.

Yet another twist, If the Abrahmic god were competing with beings like himself (greek gods), how satanic might he appear?
An abrahamic god accepts free will: I can't make you worship me.
But is flawed like miltons Satan, if you don't worship me , your damned.
Satans flaw in paradise lost was saying better to rull in hell than serve in
heaven. What he should have said was better to live free on earth not rule in hell.
So Cavel is a marvelous blend of an Abrahamic God & Satan floating through
space in a base ship with 7 of 12 would be Olympians. Caprica Aphrodite, Sharon Athena
and Deanna Hestia?. Starbuck/Artemis is the next to come forward?
Adama and Laura and Zeus and Hera? two reason for two of the final five to stay where they are.
They have human avatars leading the fleet. Three male cylons just go with the flow,
well the male gods were always kind of boring anyway. At least if your a fan of Wonder Woman.

The twist from original series to re-imagined series are always surprising and wonderful
in many ways. In the world of Sci Fi televison, the original Galactica made huge advances
by considering the existence of higher beings. Where would the Ancients of Stargate or the Vorlons
of Babylon be without Battlestar Galactica? Will we see actual communion with higher beings
in the re-imagined series? I don't expect to. It would gnaw at the the gritty realism of the show.

The idea of this entire exodus from the colonies seeking earth, unifying to a new Kobol, then breaking off back to earth and the colonies
over and over seems entirely plausible. Gods are at the very least real in a metaphoirical sense and 12 cylon
models living in peace with a vast race of humans on new a Kobol in the end sounds far more believeable
than actual gods and godesses.
Sooner Rather Than / Or Later?
*The Cylons are relieved as well, but after the Three in the command room leaves in satisfaction, the others realize that the Cylon, a race predicated on consensus and not defiance or distinctive personality clashes, have a serious problem. A Cavil voices that the Threes are out of control, and that a decision regarding their actions must be made, sooner or later.

I recalled that line as "sooner, rather than later," implying that the other models were already considering boxing the Threes. Am I loosing my mind, or did I hear that right? --Saiboogu 01:35, 24 January 2007 (CST)

:::I edited the line but left the implication that they were going to box her for the talk page. If I remember, I think it has already been implied on earlier episode summaries that the Threes may be boxed - it goes without saying on this page. Saiboogu

Multiple Cavil's?
Ron Moore mentions in the podcast that the fx crew were going to insert a shot of a Cavil in front of all of the Deanna pods. Just as he boxes her in the closeup all the others box all the other Deanna models in the long shot. But I don't believe there were any Cavil's in the long shot. Did anyone notice? --Galactageek 01:44, 24 January 2007 (CST)
: It looked like there were other Cavils doing the same thing to all the other Threes in the wide shot that ended the episode. It is rather interesting that Cavil's normally not among the models who participates in a post-resurrection midwifing, yet he's the only one there when a boxing takes place, no? --Kahran 02:04, 24 January 2007 (CST)
:To me it looked like a lot of Cavil-activity too. If (as many people here believe) Cavil is Number Two, then his actions in this episode make perfect sense. He's the one who confronts D'Anna in the temple and almost kills her, he's the one who proposes boxing the Threes in the first place, and he's the one who ends up actually doing it. If Cavil is either Two or Four, he'd be the representative of the remaining Cylons and it would make sense for him to go on a boxing spree. Also, if Cavil is Two, he wouldn't want his 'leadership' status (as far as he has any; he didn't protest against the majority decision to attack the Colonies) threatened by the revelation of Number One (who I believe to be among the Final Five). --Catrope 03:39, 24 January 2007 (CST)
Which of the main characters has Deanna had significant interactions with? Other than Baltar.--Galactageek 01:47, 24 January 2007 (CST)
: Fleet-D'Anna from Final Cut interacted with Roslin, Adama, Tigh, and Lee. As for Downloaded/Final Five-D'Anna, it's just been Baltar, Doc Cottle and Anders, who she was a righteous bitch to and nearly killed by the way. --Kahran 02:07, 24 January 2007 (CST)
:: I thought Fleet-D'Anna was Final Five-D'anna --BklynBruzer 05:41, 24 January 2007 (CST)
::: I think it's pretty obvious that the D'anna who found Hera and searched for the Five is the D'anna we know from Final Cut. Caprica-Three has a rather nastier temperament, both in Downloaded and in Occuprice. It's possible the Three who defies the basestar command in Rapture is Caprica-Three as well. I believe only one Number Three is referred to as D'anna and that's Final Cut D'anna. Note that even the other Cylons refer to her by that name. Normally, Cylons only seem to bestow individual names on a Cylon who has accomplished something significant. (For example, while D'anna mentioned speaking to a Simon, this was so Baltar would know who she's talking about.) --Slander 08:58, 24 January 2007 (CST)
::::: The D'Anna that's been focused on recently is the one who was in Downloaded, see her flashbacks in Hero and the response from Bradley Thompson (Battlestar Wiki:Official Communiques). She's probably called D'Anna because Baltar calls her that. The reporter D'Anna from Final Cut was in the fleet at the time of Downloaded, so they're not one and the same.
::Fleet-Three from "Final Cut" can't possibly be Messiah-Three - during Three's first recreational suicide in "Hero", she flashes back to a scene from "Final Cut" set on Caprica. This means she's the same Three as the one watching the documentary in that episode, and not the one who was on Galactica at that time. She also flashes back to her death at the hands of Caprica-Six in "Downloaded", so we know that they are also the same character. Since it doesn't make sense for Messiah-Three to apologize for any actions taken by Fleet-Three, I think we can safely rule her out. That leaves the humans interacted with by Messiah-Three to be considered. There are only seven candidates:
::*Sam Anders - Tried to kill him on Caprica (Downloaded)
::*Tucker "Duck" - Blew her up at the NCP graduation ceremony (Occupation)
::*Dodona Selloi - Consulted her regarding Hera's fate (Exodus, Part I)
::*Cottle - Discussed Hera's cremation (Exodus, Part I)
::*Felix Gaeta - Was present when she, Caprica-Six and Baltar evacuated Colonial One, but did not interact with him (Exodus, Part II)
::*Denny "Bulldog" Novacek (Hero) - Interrogated by an anonymous "sick" Three on a Basestar.
::*Gaius Baltar
::In evaluating these, we should establish whether Messiah-Three has done anything to them worth apologizing for, and consider whether story logistics allow them to be a Cylon. Three has no reason to apologize to Duck, Selloi, Cottle or Gaeta, narrowing the field to just Baltar, Bulldog, and Anders.
::From a storytelling standpoint, Baltar can't possibly be a Cylon. They've teased it so much that there's no dramatic payoff if they reveal it now - it would be a total anticlimax. It also ruins his character's dramatic function, since Baltar's role is to be the guilt-ridden traitor. His character can't function as a Cylon. If James Callis ever intends to leave the show, revealing him as one of the final five would be a good way to write him out, but in the near-term, it's just not a possibility.
::Bulldog would be a completely uninteresting choice (since we know nothing about him and have no emotional investment in his character). Additionally, the actor will probably be difficult to book in the future, and the character has mitigating factors (a long military career with verified non-Cylons Bill Adama and Saul Tigh).
::This leaves Anders as the only possibility. Messiah-Three certainly has grounds to apologize to him, and he has no real mitigating factors - no history prior to his time with the Caprica Buccaneers, and (notably) no children with his wife, Kara Thrace. It also explains his remarkable ability to withstand and quickly recover from walking pneumonia (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II). --Peter Farago 01:00, 25 January 2007 (CST)
:::Love the analysis. Who you narrow it down to makes sense. Anders is just a goofy guy, though. I personally find the Bulldog theory more interesting because of his connection to Adama and Tigh. If we see the character pop up in upcoming credits that might be a sign that they're filling out his backstory. Until then, though, maybe Anders will take on more shades, or the writers will have a dramatic twist that'll make Baltar a more convincing choice.--Galactageek 01:53, 25 January 2007 (CST)
I think you're making a leap on the apology thing. The apology may not be for something that Three did to the Final Five model in question, but that she was sorry she didn't know that that person was a cylon and/or a member of the final five. Make sense? --RUSnooky 10:13, 25 January 2007 (CST)
:It's possible, but it would be bad writing if that were the case. I'm making the (perhaps misguided) assumption that the writers respect our intelligence, and wouldn't give us a clue we can't use. --Peter Farago 10:23, 25 January 2007 (CST)
:I don't think so. If, as I believe RDM describes her in the Torn podcast, the Hybrid is an intermediate step between mechanical and humanoid models then she is not a humanoid model. There are many she could apologize too. First of all, Cylons who wish to seem to sync up memories (Sharon A remembers the life of Boomer) and remember those actions as their own past. But most of all, the Three line participated in the war and nuking of the colonies. There is no human she doesn't owe a huge apology to, unfortunately. She also oversaw New Caprica and thus owes a double one to all those who were subject to the occupation. She owes special apologies to Baltar and a few others, but alas this doesn't tell us much. Only that she had no idea the final 5 were playing whatever role in humanity that the person she sees has played.--Bradtem 23:35, 24 February 2007 (CST)
:Naturally, you are correct, but that would be the weaker way for the writers to work their way out of the situation. I choose to assume that they dropped that hint with a specific intent. --Peter Farago 00:25, 25 February 2007 (CST).
::My impression of what was conveyed in that scene was that it was meant to be revealing, but wasn't necessarily an apology for harm done. To apologize for harming one of the Final Five would be doubly unnecessary: he or she is a Cylon and thus generally impervious to any lasting harm, and more importantly is presumably carrying out some kind of plan, in which Three would have been merely playing her part.
::Rather, I think the identity of that particular Cylon revealed to Three something fundamental about the nature of the Final Five and the role they are playing, something very different than she ever imagined. The apology was for having the audacity to uncover their identities and approach them, thus potentially interfering with their plan, though, as she tells Cavil, she would still do it all again.--Hylas 01:14, 26 February 2007 (CST)
Boxing the Threes
There is discussion around here about just how they boxed the entire Three line, so here's my idea:
*Send all your Cavils to the Resurrection Ship's Three Deck.
*Reprogram the Centurions to forget the Threes are Cylons.
*Have the Centurions fire upon all Threes they can find in the fleet. (Resurrection Ship's gonna work overtime on that)
*Have your Cavils box the downloaded Threes.
Any alternative ideas, anyone? --Catrope 03:44, 24 January 2007 (CST)

Here's my one main idea, based on looking at what happened once D'Anna saw the final five.

*One of the consequences of her seeing the final five was that the experience would overload her Cylon brain. Take note that her eyes glazed over and her nose started to bleed, inferring that there was some sort of hemmorage occuring, probably from the brain area. Since it has been shown many times throughout the series that the Cylon models amongst themselves can communicate with each other on a near telepathic level, whether it is for voting on leadership decisions or sharing memories. I believe it is entirely possible that once D'anna saw the final five, the shared memory of that forbidden knowledge was transmitted to all the other Threes, thus resulting in their own deaths as well.

When Cavil talked with D'Anna and told her to look at all the "damage" she had caused, he seems to be talking about all the other resurrection chambers around her. This implied to me that the damage that occurred was that every Three died at the same time & thus time and energy had to be spent to resurrect them all. I take this to be the final breaking point for the rest of the Cylon leadership as resurrecting an entire line of cylons would have taxed the resources they currently had, plus now that all the Threes have this shared knowledge of the final five, it is too dangerous to keep them around, thus the final boxing.

That's my 2 cents. I understand how the other explanations can work and may very well be one of those. However, considering how often RDM and crew bring in some religious and spiritual twists every so often into their stories, what happened to D'Anna could be akin to how some religious teachings bring up the idea that once a normal human being looks upon the face of a god, their penalty is immediate death. Even in the RDM podcast, he referred to the cause of the boxing to the occurence that they finally took a bite of the forbidden knowledge, a reference to the Fall of Man account in the Judeo-Christian teachings.

Either case, I don't think the Cylons did much to "box" all the Threes. The Threes died because of D'anna's encounter with the final five and thus made it much easier to box all of them as they're resurrected. --LifeStar 10:29, 24 January 2007 (CST)

It's possible that The Threes simply accepted their faith? After all they were able to get a ship on the planet they had no further reason to disagree with the other cylons.

Also we see some people walking in the "boxing chamber" when Brother Cavil leaves. Who are they?--R4p70r 14:14, 24 January 2007 (CST)

:The premise on the Three's multiple resurrections is based on a false assumption: The Cylons have a collective knowledgebase where information can be voluntarily shared to anyone of any model. However, unless Sharon Agathon was lying (which is unlikely, otherwise the Cylons know all of the Colonial tactical data they care to know through her now), this is not compulsory, so anything that D'Anna-Three learned may not necessarily have been sent to all other Threes. This goes against the point that she was dying, which requires the downloading circuitry, and the fact that the Cylons are NOT the "Borg" of Star Trek; they are not a "hive mind" that are continually connected (although models can relate data within each other, such as in the basestar command consensus). I'm all for the Centurion-shoot-up theory myself. --Spencerian 10:33, 25 January 2007 (CST)
::My theory doesn't go against what has been established amongst the series. As we have seen multiple times, Adama's speech during the mini-series was obviously transfer amongst the different Cylon models, such Leoben and even Athena. Though it is also a voluntary information sharing system as that would allow Athena to not betray the Colonial fleet with all her tactical data in her memories. However, that doesn't mean that D'anna-Three did not voluntary open her knowledge to the other Three models. In the end it's never explained how the Threes found themselves in those chambers. They're all boxed and unless something drastic happens, that is the probably the last we'll ever see of them.--LifeStar 09:33, 26 February 2007 (CST)
::::Please read in detail the definition of mandala on Wikipedia. It is possible that the Thirteenth Tribe created the symbol for meditative use (it is in a Temple, after all). Mandalas don't have to be used or designed in a specific way except in a circular format, and it appears that the symbol adheres to the modern practice. Mandalas don't have to look like anything except for what it depicts or inspires, and it may relate to an element or concept of the universe, not a specific celestial object (although this one does). == pre-programmed viewing mechanism? ==

I have a problem with this statement in the analysis section.
:"Because D'Anna recognized one of the figures in white which must have been programmed into the viewing mechanism 4000 years previously, it can be concluded that there is some substantial connection between whomever the Temple of Five was dedicated to and the Cylons."
It's not necessarily a pre-programmed viewing mechanism. We don't even know whether the device was malfunctioning or working as designed. All we know is that when Three stepped onto the mandala, had a vision of the Final Five and then died of what appears to be a brain hemmorhage. I'll edit the comment in question. - Gordon Ecker 23:02, 25 January 2007 (CST)
::I agree. It does assume that the modality of transmission-if that is the proper term for it-is a mechanism of some sort. In the make believe world of Battlestar Galactica such phenomena as visions and precognition could exist however we may feel about them in the real world. :::There may never be enough information, with the Threes all gone, to discern how the mechanism worked. We've seen stuff like this work before in the form of the Tomb of Athena, another gift from the ancient tribes. There's not enough information to discern where the Threes kept getting their non-Temple visions. Three may have had a hemorrhage because the system was compatible with, but not designed for non-humans. We don't really know if the people who Three saw were actually the five missing Cylons themselves. Just because the character says something doesn't make it true; its their perception. Much of the comments from the virtual Number Six are testaments to how the show's writers love to twist us, so I recommend careful treading on further speculation, lest ye wank your fans. --Spencerian 08:02, 26 January 2007 (CST)
::::I agree; we are lacking too much information. We don't even know for sure when the Temple of Five or the Tomb of Athena were created/programmed. Everyone is assuming they were set up 4000 years ago, but it's possible the "visions" were programmed by the Final 5 fairly recently. The structures may have been created a long time ago, but the Final 5 (or someone else) may have added the high-tech recently. Maybe they already went in search of Earth and were leaving clues for others to follow - they could have also deliberately designed them to fit with the prophecies. I'm reaching, but it helps make the point that we have no idea when the visions in the Temple and Tomb were created. --Todd 17:45, 14 February 2007 (CST)

Should information from RDM's podcast about Cavil be included? RDM said how delighted he was with the idea that the athetist Cavil model is the actual model that knows about the final 5, a guardian if you will. That explains why Cavil was able to deduce why D'Anna was concerned with the Temple and why he felt it was his responsibility to prevent D'Anna from doing so. It also explains why again it is Cavil, and not the other models, that is confronting the 3 models before they're boxed, he(or they) are the ones who truly know and guard the secret of who the final 5 are.
So about what? Other than the obvious suggestion that he's one of the final five.

What other things have people noted that Baltar said to the Cylons that they, or she, disagreed with? --Bradtem 21:50, 23 February 2007 (CST)

Baltar as the Cylon God
It has occurred to me that Baltar may be the Cylon "god", although he may not realize it. In the mini series Baltar is giving an interview where he denounces the ban on research and development into artificial intelligence. The original cylon centurions were created by man, but did man give them the ability to evolve on their own? Perhaps Baltar played a part in the evolution of the Cylon race, though his work may have been completed by someone else thus explaining how he could be fooled into letting number 6 into the defense mainframes.

:I don't think his age has ever been officially stated, but he looks far too young, and probably is. It's still theoretically possible that one of his parents played a major role in developing the Cylons, then moved to Aerelon under an assumed identity and married a farmer, or that Baltar's one of the Final Five, or that he's one of the previous cycle's equivalent of Cylons, or that one of his parents is a Cylon (or last cycle's equivalent), or that he's the son or mortal incarnation of the One Whose Name Cannot be Spoken, or that the Cylon god is the last cycle's version of Baltar, or that he's a perfectly normal human who happens to have an important destiny. There's definitely some strange connection between Baltar and the Cylons. -- Gordon Ecker 23:41, 27 February 2007 (CST)
Answer to five priests question?
Ok, Serenity, you've got me. You added a link that Crossroads part II has the answer to the question about whether the final five are the five priests. I mean yes, the revelation that somebody as old as Tigh is in the F5 does provide some strong evidence that it's true, but I would hardly say it's confirmed yet, so what clear answer do you see? Or are you suggesting it's answered in the negative? Either way I can't say there's an answer to that question in that episode. --Bradtem 15:40, 22 April 2007 (CDT)
:I actually thought about saying "Possible answer" and that's probably the best. Anyways, the idea that the priests several thousand years ago are somehow the Final Five is pretty absurd in the first place. For me that the Final Five are contemporary persons is strong evidence that they are not the ancient priests. --Serenity 06:37, 23 April 2007 (CDT)
::Remember the central premise of the Colonial faith: "All this has happened before, and all of this will happen again." The temple was built 4,000 years before the Cylons were supposed to exist. How could this temple be related to the Cylons? Are the priests and the Cylons the same? These are the valid questions, and obviously there is a connection. Recycled technology, recycled souls, something reused. And don't leave out Kara Thrace and her symbol (she never entered the Temple, yet she has a connection). --Spencerian 09:46, 23 April 2007 (CDT)
::I would venture that "Answer" or even "possible answer" means answer, not clue. I don't want to debate it here, but I think our disagreement makes it clear this question is not answered. And it is one of the central questions. Absurd? Surely you've noticed the Final Five make all their vision appearances in the Kobol-era opera house as well? --Bradtem 13:50, 23 April 2007 (CDT)
:::I think "possible answer" is alright, depending on how one sees it. People have different interpretations, and for some it might be an answer and for some not. That's the meaning of "possible". For me, the heavy emphasis on that whole Final Five business is not a good thing in the show. But while they might somehow be related to the priests, maybe modeled in their image or something, I think it's out of the question that the priests literally are the Final Five, cycle of time or not. --Serenity 13:56, 23 April 2007 (CDT)
::::I agree, maybe the Final Five are this cycle's version of the five priests (both groups were outcasts because they worship different deities) --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:18, 23 April 2007 (CDT)
::::It can't be a "possible answer" because as should now be clear, some people think Crossroads is *stronger evidence* that the 5 priests may be the very same final 5, and some people such as yourself think it refutes that idea. You can't declare an answer of any time when it's not clear what the possible answer even is. I don't want to debate it here, just to point out that the question is not answered, either way. A link to an "answer", even a possible one, requires that it be clear what answer is being referred to. To avoid debate here I created a blog thread on the five priests where we can debate in the comments if desired.

Overview
Act 1
* The final episode begins with a series of events before before the Fall.
* In a strip bar in Caprica City, William Adama and Saul and Ellen Tigh enjoy themselves.
* Adama questions whether to take a civilian job, rather than to take command of an aged battlestar Over drinks, Adama decides to take the job.

* Elsewhere on Caprica, Lee Adama is having dinner with Kara Thrace and her fiancee, Zak Adama.
* Zak questions why his brother joined the Colonial Forces, despite Lee's idealism and his dislike of his father. Lee simply answers that he received college funding in exchange for service.

* Elsewhere, Laura Roslin greets her date, Sean Allison, at her home. After realizing he seemed familiar, Roslin finally recalls where she had seen him. Sean was a former student from years ago.
* Despite the age difference, Roslin decides to let him stay the night. "The night's young. Apparently, so are you," she says. "Let's see what happens."

* Back at the strip bar, Bill Adama challenges Saul on whether he'd take the civilian desk job. Saul doesn't answer.

* Lee Adama and Thrace manage to drag Zak back to the apartment after a night of drinking. But Thrace isn't done, and pulls out more alcohol for shots between her and Lee.

* Bill Adama is drunkenly sick, vomiting outside somewhere on the street. With a weak smile, he looks up to the stars in the night sky.

* The scene shifts back to present day on Galactica, where Gaius Baltar sits in the former home of his followers, now empty.
* He listens to the virtual Six, telling him to trust in God's plan for him. When he asks what that plan is, she tells him that he already following it.

Act 2
* In Galactica's sickbay, Dr. Cottle (who will not be staying aboard the ship for the battle) leaves assistant Layne Ishay two injections of heavy medication to allow Laura Roslin enough lucidity and mobility for 48 hours. She thanks him sincerely, causing Cottle to be something he'd rarely been: speechless.

* In the pilot ready room, Karl Agathon briefs the Raptor teams on the special nature of their rescue mission. Despite the odds, all volunteer.

* Lee Adama briefs the marines on where little Hera would likely be: deep inside the Cylon colony.

* Admiral Adama work out the tactics of the battle against the colony. Close-range combat; nuclear weapons and missiles will not be possible for the battlestar. He orders the gun batteries to fire until exhausted, and after that, "start throwing rocks," he says with a small smile.

* The Final Five plan out what they can offer as well. As befitting a cybernetic race, they consider a tactic used by Cylons in the past. They will use Samuel Anders, now effectively a Hybrid on Galactica, to interface with the Colony and its Hybrids to interrupt their commands, slowing the effectiveness of the Colony's weapon systems.
* The catch is that Anders will need to be connected to the DRADIS, fire control and C-3 systems. They plan to take Anders and connect him inside CIC.

* Admiral Adama hands over command of the Fleet to Hoshi, noting that if they aren't back from the mission in 12 hours, they will never come back.
* In CIC, Saul Tigh jokes at his old friend at the bizarre sight of a Cylon interfaced to his battlestar, gooey wires and conduit that extend over Adama's command console everywhere and into the DRADIS console. "Still not too late to flush them all out of the airlock," Tigh quips. "Take too much time," Adama answers.
* With Lee Adama staying for the attack, he appoints Romo Lampkin is appointed as President of the Twelve Colonies. He joins Admiral Hoshi on the last Raptor to leave Galactica for the baseship, the Fleet's new flagship.
* Baltar's followers get in the ship. Baltar enters, but then tells Paulla that he must stay on the ship. Lee Adama throws Baltar a weapon.
* Adding to the battlestar's attack force, a Number Six leads a large number of Cylon Centurions down the hangar deck, some with a red sash painted on them for identification.

Act 3
* A shot of the Fleet shows that the rebel baseship has fully regenerated from its damage from the start of the Cylon Civil War. It is ready to lead the civilians to safety while Galactica goes hunting, retracting its flight pods to prep for FTL.
* Adama commands a ship-wide readiness report, a sort of countdown.
* Meanwhile, in sickbay, Layne Ishay prep sickbay for wounded. Laura Roslin assists as best she can.
* Vipers are in launch tubes. The entire Raptor squadron, armed with missiles, have been placed inside the starboard flight pod deck, amidst the ruins of the old Galactica Museum.
* Gaius Baltar is a soldier protecting the hallways against borders. He is surprised to find Caprica-Six by his side.
* In CIC, Ellen Tigh signals that Anders is ready to work.
* Adama gives a final speech, a final understanding and call to arms.

* The battlestar jumps only meters from the edge of the Colony--and is immediately besieged by the Cylon batteries.
* With little time, Sam Anders attempts to make contact with the Colony Hybrids--and takes them offline, apparently by causing them to go into a state of ecstasy. Ellen warns that Cylon Raiders will appear any minute.
* Galactica responds by launching its fighter wings. The Vipers launch, and the Raptors jump directly from within the starboard pod--causing incredible damage to the pod as it vents open--but now placing themselves on the opposite side of the Colony in a flanking position.
* Adama orders the battlestar's engines at flank speed. He rams the alligator head into the Colony. Galactica's inhabitants take a beating, but so does the Colony. The Colonials have breeched it, forming an entrance. Lee Adama leads his marines and several Cylon Centurions inside from a front airlock.
* Sharon Agathon and Helo's Raptor make their way to the Colony's interior.
* Racetrack and Skulls arm their nuclear missiles, presumably to strike the colony after the rescue. But suddenly a piece of debris strikes their Raptor, killing all aboard and leaving the Raptor adrift.
* The Raptors breech another section of the Colony, and their teams enter.

* Deep inside the Colony, a Simon works on young Hera as Boomer looks on in disgust. When she questions why he continues to work on Hera, the Simon explains that they maintain and superior force and numbers.
* Suddenly, Boomer assaults the Simon, snapping his neck. She takes Hera out of the room.

Act 4
* The Colony's halls are filled with gunfire. Cylon Centurions, including older Model 0005s fight each other as the Colonial fire teams push through.
* Cavil, a Number Five and another Simon decide to go on the defensive, to attack the battlestar with their troops.

* In a hallway in Galactica, ready to repel boarders, Caprica-Six and Baltar come to terms with their old relationship. As they kiss, they hear a Six's voice. "All of the pieces are falling into place."
* The Virtual Six--and the Virtual Baltar--stand above them. To the surprise of Caprica-Six and Baltar, they can hear and see each of the avatars.
* With a shudder, the battlestar hull is breeched as waves of enemy Centurions, both old-model and modern, pour into the ship.

* The Agathon's team find Boomer, holding Hera. She gives the child to them, telling them to tell Admiral Adama that she "owed him one." With the child safe, Athena shoots Boomer.
* A flashback scene shows what Boomer meant: a time back in her days on Galactica, as Adama and Tigh redress her but give her another chance to be a better pilot.

* Ishay has her hands full in sickbay, trying to triage and treat as many people as she can. The event is taxing, physically and mentally, for Roslin, as she comforts more dying than not.

* Lee Adama's team connects with Starbuck's team, with Hera in tow. When Lee asks where Thrace was, she answers, "Stopped for coffee." With their objective complete and no other battlestar patrols found, they head back to the battlestar's alligator-head.

* Galactica batteries are being targeted by Raiders. She is losing what little defensive ability she has left. Enemy forces are coming at the reserve forces--where Baltar waits.

Act 5
* Caprica-Six and Baltar hold off the enemy Centurions. Baltar's passion at killing Centurions gets a bit out of control as Lee Adama's team reenter the battlestar with Hera. As more enemies appear, Lee and Baltar fire away.
* Laura Roslin sits and experiences yet another vision of the Opera House and little Hera. Struggling to walk, driven by something she can't fully realize, she gets up to find Hera.
* Starbuck leads the Agathons through the hallways, but a Number Five appears, seriously wounding Helo in the leg and killing a marine before Starbuck eliminates him. In the confusion, Hera runs away. Athena runs after her.
* Hera walks amidst the gunfighting, when soon she encounters Roslin, who pulls out of the path of an enemy patrol and to safety. But when Roslin turns back to the child, she is gone again.
* Caprica-Six and Baltar are running, and are out of ammo. Suddenly they see Hera, as well as Roslin and Athena--all grouped together as in the Opera House vision. Caprica-Six scoops up the child and enters a hallway, closing the hatchway, preventing Athena from following.
* As the scene shifts between visions of the Opera House and the corridors, Baltar and Caprica-Six realize what they must do: They follow their vision into the Opera House--which turns out to be CIC, where the Final Five reside, overlooking the lower deck of CIC as they appeared in the vision, standing above.
* Suddenly Cavil, a Number Five and a Simon enter the room. Cavil grabs Hera as a shield.
* Baltar pleads for the child's freedom, telling Cavil that Hera is key to humanity's survival as well. He reasons with Cavil that there are higher forces at work, that led them all, here, for a reason. When Cavil questions if God has his people's interests at heart, on how Baltar knows that God is on his side, Baltar replies (in an allusion of something he once said to the virtual Six), "God is not on any one's side." The Virtual Six and Virtual Baltar look on with a pleased expression.
* Baltar asks Cavil to take a leap of faith. Saul Tigh sweetens the pot by offering to reteach Cavil the secret of resurrection, this time in exchange not only for Hera's life but for permanent peace, where the Cylons leave humanity alone.
* Cavil agrees. He uses the battlestar comm to order his forces to stand down and releases Hera. Admiral Adama orders stand-down as well.

Act 6
* Vipers and Raptors return to Galactica as Raiders return to the Colony. Laura Roslin joins the admiral in CIC.
* The Five each know part of the secret to resurrection. They will combine their knowledge by connecting themselves through the water in Ander's tank. Ellen Tigh tells the others that the process will also share memories as well as data.
* But before they begin, Tory Foster, visibly anxious, warns the others that they will see "certain things" of their bad behavior. She tries to prepare the others of what they will see of her. An impatient Cavil screams. "I don't mean to rush you, but you are keeping two civilizations waiting!"
* The Five dip their hands and make the connection. As the data flows to the Colony, Foster's visions of murdering Cally Tyrol in an effort to protect her secret of being a Cylon comes to the forefront, surprising the others of the Five, and angering Galen Tyrol immediately.
* Tyrol pulls his hand from the pool and wraps both hands tightly around Foster's neck in a death-grip, eventually snapping her neck.
* As Anders screams from the sudden disconnection, the Cylons in CIC believe they are deceived and open fire. The Colonials kill all but Cavil, who shouts an exasperated "Frak!" before putting his pistol in his mouth and pulling the trigger.

* High above, as gunfire begins again over Galactica, Racetrack's Raptor drifts, its crew lifeless. A rock strikes the ship, causing Racetrack's dead hand to strike the firing button to the Raptor's tactical nuclear missiles, launching them all straight at the Colony.
* The force of the explosions disable the Colony, pushing it towards the black hole, threatening to take Galactica with it.
* Adama orders Kara Thrace to make a blind jump, but Thrace thinks about the music her father played, the music that Hera wrote to her. Recalling the mathematical associations she tried to discern from the music, Thrace realizes the music works as a series of FTL coordinates.
* She punches in the coordinates into the navigation computer and jumps the ship.

* A flashback scene appears where Lee Adama and Kara Thrace talk about how she thinks about death every time she gets into a cockpit.

* Galactica completes the jump--but the strain of the last battle causes the battlestar's structure to ripple and twist as structural members tear and break. The ship will never jump again. Engines and life support are okay, but Galactica's backbone is broken.
* "Where have you taken us, Kara?" Roslin asks, as the scene changes to an exterior shot to show the battlestar flying over a gray, rocky moon.
* But is not just a moon...Galactica has arrived at the moon of Earth...another Earth, this one with the continent of Africa in prominent view.

Act 7
* The Fleet jumps into Earth orbit as Galactica passes by. A Raptor came to Hoshi to guide them to Earth.
* Landing ship after landing ship leave for the new world.
* On a green, rich savannah in Africa, Admiral Adama, Cottle, Saul Tigh, Hoshi, and Baltar look on, lying prone on their stomachs with binoculars at a tribe of early humans. Cottle confirms that the native humans are compatible genetically.
* At a camp, as Lampkin considers a building of a new city, Lee Adama tells him to let humanity start all over again, leave their technology behind, which has almost always gotten them into trouble. Let the Colonials enter Earth with just their basic possessions.

* Admiral Adama maps out a plan to populate various continents and land masses, spreading out humanity and Cylon far and wide, distributing supplies to give all a good chance of survival. To Lampkin's surprise, the peoples of the Fleet take a liking to leaving technology behind.
* A Number Two tells Adama that the remaining Cylons will stay as well on Earth, handing over the baseship to the Centurions, to give them their own freedom. When Lampkin questions if setting the Centurions free won't cause another holocaust hundreds of years from now, Ellen Tigh agrees it's a risk, but believes the cycle of death has been ended. Adama agrees.
* Adama tells that, after everyone is offloaded from the ships, the Fleet will reunite with Galactica a final time. Piloted by Samuel Anders, still in his tank in CIC, connected into the battlestar, he will fly all the ships on a final voyage into the Sun.

* Kara Thrace, eyes filled with tears, meets with Anders at his tank, kissing him goodbye for the last time, and leaving her dog tags. As she leaves, he mutters, "Ill see you on the other side."

Act 8
* Admiral William Adama descends into the hangar deck, wearing a flight suit. The deck is otherwise completely empty of anything, and anyone.
* He takes a seat in a Viper Mark II. Not just any Mark II...but the one that Galen Tyrol's team rebuilt for him as a retirement gift so long ago.
* As Adama's Viper launches, the scene shifts to six years prior, where Adama is taking a lie detector test for the prospective desk job. When the test administrator asks him test questions such as, "Are you a Cylon?" and "Have you ever stolen money from a cash drawer?" Adama is angered and leaves, saying, "I'd rather spend the rest of my career--what's left of it--on a broken old down ship, than to have someone sit here and question my word."
* Husker's Viper makes a final fly-by of the old battlestar, looking at her one last time before pointing his Viper towards Earth.

* Samuel Anders's voice from the past talks of his days in sport, dreaming of perfection, and being linked to it, to creation, as Anders's guides the Fleet, now united to the mathematical perfection he once spoke of through his duties as a Hybrid.
* As a version of the Original Series main theme plays, the scene shows Galactica and the Fleet gathered a final time, heading away from Earth and towards the sun to its demise.

* Walking in the savannah, the Tighs speak with Galen Tyrol a final time. He has decided to go to the northern highlands of Earth, what will likely be Ireland or Iceland. The scene shifts to the Tighs, partying back in Caprica City, once upon a time.

Act 9
* On the plains, Bill Adama sits with Laura Roslin, watching herds of gazelle. Her vision weakening, she tries to use her glasses with the binoculars. "A very beautiful world," she says. When she asks what the name of the planet is, Adama tells her it's Earth. He adds, "Earth is a dream," believing that their new home, a long-sought destination, deserves the name.
* Roslin's breathing becomes labored and shallow. Adama offers to give her a better look at the wildlife. He picks her up and carries her to a nearby Raptor.
* Lee Adama and Kara Thrace notice and meet Bill Adama there. The Adamas hug, and Bill Adama gives Thrace a final greeting of "Nothing but the rain" before he hugs and kisses her. Thrace and Lee wave goodbye to a smiling Roslin as the Raptor ascends.

* Lee realizes that his father isn't coming back. Kara Thrace tells Lee that she isn't coming back, either. "I just know that I am done here. I've completed my journey...and it feels good."

* A flashback scene, back in Thrace's apartment, where Thrace dares Lee to make love to her on her dining room table. But before they could do anything, the crash of a glass partially awakens Zak, causing the two to realize what they were doing. They shake hands and say goodbye.

* "Today is the first day of the rest of your life, Lee," Kara Thrace says. As Lee tells her of desire to explore and climb mountains, he turns to find that Kara Thrace has vanished, as if she were a ghost. "Goodbye, Kara," he says. "You won't be forgotten."
* A flashback scene shows the pigeon that would be trapped in Lee's apartment after his visit to Kara and Zak. It looks at Lee and flies out of the window and away.

* In another flashback from six years prior, Laura Roslin returns to stand by the side of the bed, thanks Sean Allison, but tells him that they will not meet this way again, and asks him to leave. As the man leaves, Roslin returns to her bathroom, lights a cigarette, then makes a phone call. She accepts the opportunity to work on Mayor Richard Adar's campaign.

* Bill Adama's Raptor flies over flamingos. "So much..life," Laura Roslin says...her final words as she closes her eyes and quietly passes.
* Moments go by before Bill realizes that she is gone.
* In tears, Bill removes his wedding ring and places it on Laura's hand. "Right there...I'm going to build our cabin right there," he says, pointing to some hills.

Act 10
* A line of people walk into the wilderness, calm and ready to take on the world.
* The Agathons walk as well, Helo using a makeshift crutch, talking of hunting and other pleasantries. Hera runs about in play, a smile on her face.
* Gaius Baltar and Caprica-Six look on at Hera playing as the Virtual Six and Baltar reappear. When Caprica-Six questions if the protection of Hera was all that God wanted of them, the Virtual Six replies, "God's plan is never complete." "Great..." Baltar replies sullenly.
* Virtual-Baltar counters, "I think it's safe to say that, from now on, your lives will be less...eventful."

* Another flashback to Caprica City. Baltar offers Caprica-Six an opportunity to "peek" into the Colonial Defense Mainframe.

* When Baltar points to some land, he recalls his heritage, and his father, and that he knows a bit about farming, to a bit of tears.

* Bill Adama sits, looking out into the hills and valley. "I laid out the cabin today. It's going to have an easterly view. You should see the light that we get here. When the sun comes from behind those mountains. It's almost heavenly. It reminds me of you."
* As he speaks, the camera pans up to show Adama, seated near the cairn he built for Laura Roslin's body.

* The scene turns to show Hera playing and looking upward. Scenes of wood and desert and sea pass by in a geologic montage to reveal an Earth city--New York City--150,000 years ahead in time.

* As a fly-over of the city appears, a voice-over news report tells of the Tanzanian discovery of the bones of what scientists believe our the remains of the mitochondrial Eve, the common ancestor of mankind.

* As Ron D. Moore reads about the scientific discovery, the Virtual Six and Baltar look over his shoulder at a magazine article of the news, and reveal what they know...the bones are that of Hera Agathon, born of a Cylon mother and a human father. No other people on the street appear to notice them.
* The two talk of the technology and decadence, of whether this Earth will repeat the mistakes of generations past and again become overwhelmed by their creations. The Six thinks not, believing it to be God's plan.
* "You know He doesn't like that name," Baltar says. Six only looks back in mild defiance. "Silly. Silly me," he replies as the two walk away into the metropolis.

* The episode concludes with scenes of robots, from toys to advanced automatons growing and evolving, as Jimi Hendrix's--Earth's popular version--of "All Along The Watchtower" plays.
* The story ends.

Notes
*A portion of this episode was being filmed in Kamloops, BC during the week of June 16, 2008. Local extras of all ages were utilized for this scene (or scenes) and were required to have an athletic build and a clean-cut look, or to be slim with long hair or dreadlocks. Extras were auditioned at Best Western room 137 (in Kamloops) on June 12th . The rural area surrounding Kamloops was previously utilized to depict the algae planet in "The Eye of Jupiter" and "Rapture".
*Although Part I had a runtime of one hour, Part II will run for two hours. An even longer cut of Daybreak will later be released on DVD.
*There was no final population count given after the engagement with the Cavil forces. However, there were no reported deaths by accident or violence before the engagement so the population count is most likely the same as it was in "Daybreak, Part I" before the attack on the Colony.
*There is a poetic ring to the nature of the conflict of the Second Cylon War. It began with the Cylon attack on Colonies nearly wiping out mankind. It ended with the Colonial attack on the Cylon Colony very likely wiping out the Cylons who didn't join with the humans. This is also in line with Romo Lampkin's observation of him being President of it being "Poetic justice" and Lee Adama's "What goes around, comes around" since Lampkin originally pushed him to be a politician.
*Giaus Baltar with deliberate aforethought gave Caprica Six the back door to the Colonial defenses. He still did not know Caprica Six was a Cylon, but he did commit willful corporate espionage knowing he would be punished for it.
*This episode marks the deaths of Boomer, Cavil, Racetrack, Skulls, Tory Foster, Samuel Anders and Laura Roslin and the destruction of Cavil's forces. The Doral and Simon lines are also presumably wiped out, or at least decimated beyond recovery. Kara Thrace, having fulfilled her purpose, vanishes without a trace and her whereabouts are unknown. In detail:
**Boomer was killed by Athena in revenge for taking Hera, sleeping with Helo and beating her in the lavatory.
**Cavil took his own life in Galactica's CIC when his side lost.
**Racetrack and Skulls's Raptor was stuck by a meteor penetrating their wind screen and striking them. Both Skulls and Racetrack were killed on impact. Racetrack's dead hand later hit the launch button that launched the nuclear missiles after her Raptor was hit again by a asteroid.
**Tory was killed by Galen Tyrol in revenge for Tory killing his wife Cally after he learned Tory murdered her during the mutual and involuntary exchange of private information of the Final Five's minds while downloading Resurrection technology data to the Cavil forces.
**Anders guided himself in Galactica and the Fleet into the Sun.
**Roslin died of cancer as Adama was giving her a bird's eye view of their new home on second Earth in a Raptor.
**Since they did not have either Cylon females or Resurrection the Cavil, Simon and Doral models on the various Cylon Baseships presumably died out after their natural life spans were exhausted.
**Kara was presumably taken by the same force, probably God, that resurrected her.
*This episode also marks the destruction of the Galactica and her Fleet.
*Humanity, along with the Cylons, finally reaches its new homeworld, names it Earth and the humans of today are the Colonials and probably the Rebel Cylons, descendants 150,000 years later. The Leobens, Sixs and Sharon models from the Baseship joined the Colonials on the new Earth.
*The Centurions are granted full independence and subsequently depart in the rebel Baseship to pursue their own destiny.
*The Kodiak, the command ship of the Global Defence Initiative (GDI) faction from the computer game Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun is seen among the fleet in one establishing shot.

Analysis
*The coordinates that Thrace enters, 1123 / 6536 / 5321 correspond to the notation of the Final Four theme . The song is in a C# Phrygian scale (enharmonic with A major and F# minor). 1 represents C#, and each higher integer indicates the next note in the scale, such that

:1 = C#
:2 = D
:3 = E
:(4 = F#)
:5 = G#
:6 = A
:(7 = B)

:The linked graphic omits the first and last note of the theme, but both can be heard in the soundtrack during the jump montage. The second "five" (in the third chunk of four digits) corresponds to the tuplet G#/A/G#, effectively omitting the trill up to high A. Every note has the same duration except for the last two, which are twice the length of the others.
*The Virtual Beings are angels of God who came to guide Baltar and Caprica Six in their destiny of protecting Hera.
*Kara Thrace is an angel who was sent back from the dead to guide humanity to a new home the coordinates of which were hidden in The Music.
*As noted in the "Notes" section it is unlikely that the Cavil, Simon and Doral lines will continue without Cylon females. The Threes are extinct with the last copy D'Anna Biers herself dying on the original Earth; Boomer killed in the Colony (and in anycase couldn't single handedly save the lines even if she were alive); and the last Sixes and Eights staying with the humans on the second Earth. However, there is the possibility of having a few remaining human females from the survivors of the various Colonial worlds including Caprica being viable, so the lines could in theory continue. However, given the total lack of success in the forced breeding of Cylons and humans and the Cavil, Dorals and Simon's cynical view of love, an apparent requirement of conception between both Cylon-Cylon and Cylon-human combinations, it is unlikely.
*The scene where Adama is being questioned and abruptly quits the interview references the classic Sci-Fi film Blade Runner, which also starred Edward James Olmos.
*Ronald D. Moore appears as himslef holding a National Geographic magazine in New York City. With this scene the series Battlestar Galactica becomes part of itself as Ronald D. Moore later creates the series with the knowledge of mitochondrial Eve.
*The shelters erected by the Colonials on Earth resemble Quonset huts, World War II-era temporary structures.
*The final scenes of this episode, in fast-forwarding through time and attempting to set the entire work as a backstory, make the ending similar to that of the film How the West Was Won.

Questions
* Since Caprica Six and Giaus Baltar genuinely love each other do they have a child?
* What becomes of the Centurions?
** Do they go after the remnants of Cavil's forces, or go their separate ways?
** Will the freed Centurions eventually develop their own humanoid forms?
* Did any copies of Cavil, Doral, or Simon survive?
* Why does Cavil choose to commit suicide?
* What becomes of the Baseships seen orbiting the Colony?
* Are any other human-Cylon hybrids born on Earth, or do the Twos, Sixes, and Eights remain childless?
* If "it" doesn't like to be called God, what does "it" like to be called?
* Will modern humans discover remains of Colonial technology such as Raptors?
* Why do the angels still look like Baltar and Six 150,000 years later?
* Will humanity repeat the Cycle?
* Are Thrace and Anders together?
* Can Thrace ever return again?
* Do Baltar and Caprica-Six marry? Do they go into isolation like Adama and Tyrol, or will they be near a human colony?
* Do Adama and Tyrol stay isolated for the rest of their lives?
* Why was Romo Lampkin chosen as President? Wouldn't a member of the Quorum of Captains have been selected?
* What became of the remaining prisoners aboard the <i>Astral Queen</i>? Were they sent out amongst the rest of the human population, or were all of them deposited in some geographical area completely isolated from the other humans?
* Were any of the groups provided with medicine, or medical training or at least someone with medical knowledge before spreading out among the world?
* Is God related to the Lords of Kobol or something completely different?
* Why did the First Hybrid not want humanity to follow Thrace?
* How many angels are there? Are the ones that resemble Six and Baltar the same as those that appeared to the Final Five and Thrace, or distinct?
* Why have angels not been appearing to the Final Five since Old Earth's destruction, only to Baltar, Six, and Thrace?
* Since the notes of All Along the Watchtower lead to Earth, do they still serve a purpose on Earth?
* Will analysis of Hera's remains reveal that she was not a normal human?
* Does human life evolve on planets other than Kobol and the new Earth?
* Who did Hera eventually have children with? A human or a Cylon?
* Was it coincidence or divine intervention that an asteroid caused Racetrack's hand to hit the launch button for the nuclear weapons at the exact right moment?

Overview
:In an effort to stem the Fleet's growing resentment toward the military, Commander Adama and President Roslin allow an outspoken anti-military journalist complete access to the Galactica and its crew.

Summary
*Reporter D'anna Biers is preparing a special report on what she's hyped as the "Gideon massacre", when she is escorted by Marines to Colonial One.
*President Laura Roslin and Commander William Adama meet her, and she complains that all of her requests to interview Marines involved with the Gideon incident have been denied. Roslin and Adama tell her that all that is about to change: they want to mend the relationship between the military and the civilian fleet by allowing Biers to shoot a documentary on life on Galactica, with unrestricted access.
*Biers and her cameraman Bell are flown to Galactica with Adama in Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson's Raptor. On Galactica, Petty Officer Anastasia Dualla is given the task of showing them around, pointing out fairly everyday things like carbon dioxide scrubbers for atmosphere and vegetable refrigeration units--information that Biers writes off as trivial.
*Biers starts filming one-on-one interviews with several crewmen. She asks Dualla why she joined the Fleet, and she says her father didn't approve but she wanted to believe in something.
*Biers and her cameraman are walking through the halls when Brendan "Hot Dog" Costanza and Louanne "Kat" Katraine chase each other out of the showers wearing towels. Biers follows them into the senior pilots' locker room, where Captain Lee "Apollo" Adama, (who nearly drops his towel accidentally) tells her to respect their privacy and get out. Kat moons the documentary camera, and gets yelled at by her CAG.

*Ellen Tigh calls Colonel Saul Tigh down to their quarters, where someone has left a threat for Saul by writing a line of Caprican poetry in red paint on their mirror.
*Biers then interviews Lee, and she accuses him of thinking the pilots deserve preferential treatment. He tells her that he does think they deserve such treatment; despite suffering as much loss as everyone else they risk their lives every day for the fleet, and while they don't need pity, they do deserve respect.
*Biers interviews Private Scott Kelso, one of the Marines involved in the Gideon shootings. He insists that he and the other Marines were just doing their jobs, and that the "unarmed civilians" were attacking them, and that he has a scar on this head that required ten stitches to prove it. At the same time, Kelso thinks the whole thing was a "command frak-up"; that the Marines weren't trained for crowd control, and he isn't surprised that someone wants to kill Colonel Tigh.
*Biers then interviews a disheveled Lieutenant Felix Gaeta, who is smoking a cigarette while displaying a level of frustration and fatigue that he doesn't normally show.
*On the Hangar Deck, Kat yells at Chief Tyrol when her Viper malfunctions, although it wasn't the Chief's fault. Lieutenant Kara "Starbuck" Thrace breaks it up (as Biers follows her) and Kat storms out.
*Biers is then allowed into the CIC, where Commander Adama orders Colonel Tigh to attend a meeting of civilian leaders on Cloud Nine, which Adama thinks will be a good chance for them to vent their frustration instead of seething at Tigh in private. However, as his Raptor is about to depart, it malfunctions and smokes until a damage control team can put it out. Tigh gets out and Tyrol tells him it looks like someone sabotaged the Raptor with a hammer, and if they had gotten into space the atmosphere inside would have vented, killing him.
*Racetrack lights a candle for her lost loved ones in the memorial hallway, and is then interviewed by Biers. She tells Biers that she assumes that she's already as good as dead going out on missions, and she just hopes she can kill as many Cylons as possible before her day comes.
*D'anna also interviews Lt. Karl "Helo" Agathon, who says that in combat you're supposed to turn off the human part of you because it will get you killed, but that nothing is that easy to do.
*Helo then visits Caprica-Valerii in the brig, where she in unresponsive in her bed until pulling a blood-stained hand from under her sheets and sobbing. Helo calls for Doctor Cottle to come right away.
*Kat gives an interview to Biers which is emotionally unrestrained. She then freaks out while attempting to land her Viper, and despite Captain Kelly and Thrace trying to talk her down, she misses three passes, then on the final try crashes her Viper into the landing bay. Biers follows Thrace and Lee to the flight deck. Getting out of her Viper, Kat is incomprehensible and disoriented. Thrace finds Stims on Kat's person: Kat had been taking them by the fistful to stay alert, and now she has overdosed. Kat is forcibly strapped down to a gurney while kicking and screaming and taken to Sickbay.
*Biers follows Kat to Sickbay, where she accidentally goes behind a curtain and sees Doctor Cottle arguing with the terrified Sharon Valerii; Cottle is trying to save her baby before Valerii has a miscarriage. Biers is then shoved away, but not before catching Valerii on film.
*Later, Commander Adama arrives in sickbay and demands that Biers hand over the tape. Biers notes that the woman she saw looked exactly like the deceased Lt. Sharon "Boomer" Valerii, and that news that Galactica is harboring a Cylon could turn the Fleet against him. Adama counters that, after the Gideon incident, this new revelation could devastate morale in the Fleet, and whether that even matters to Biers. Reluctantly, Biers gives him the tape and he leaves. When Adama is out of sight, D'anna pulls the real tape out of her shirt.
*Baltar begins a less than great interview with Biers but is interrupted when an action stations alarm goes off: two Raiders are on a collision course with Galactica. Biers heads to the CIC to film there while her cameraman covers the flight deck. We only see the fight from the perspective of those on the ship listening over the radio; the Raiders are destroyed.
*Saul Tigh returns to his quarters to find Ellen tied up. It turns out that his would-be murder is Joe Palladino, who is distraught that Tigh's orders resulted in innocent people being killed by men under Palladino's command. He pulls a gun on Tigh, but Tigh presses the gun to his forehead and talks Palladino down. As Biers reviews the tape, she sees Palladino reading a book by Kataris (which she recognises as containing the poetry line used to threaten Tigh), and alerts the crew. The marines rush to Tigh's quarters, where they see Palladino and take him away.
*Back on Colonial One, Roslin, Adama, and Tigh review Biers' finished documentary. Adama decides that he likes the accurate portrayal that she did, and lets them broadcast it across the entire fleet.

*In the documentary, Biers does an ending voiceover where as the music swells in the background she explains that the story of Galactica is that they'll never give up. As people watch it on monitor screens throughout the Fleet.....
*...the humanoid Cylons are watching the documentary as well in an abandoned movie theater on Cylon-occupied Caprica. A copy of Number Six is impressed at the resilience of the humans, and asks about the fate of Caprica-Valerii's baby. A second, Caprica-based copy of D'anna Biers then turns around (Biers is now revealed to have been a humanoid Cylon the whole time), and tells her that both Caprica-Valerii and her baby survived her near-miscarriage. Aaron Doral says that the baby must be protected at all costs, and they must proceed with caution.

Notes
*The population count is now 47,853, a loss of two since "Home, Part II", to account for the two Tom Zarek henchmen killed in that episode.
*D'anna Biers makes the same comment about Baltar that Roslin made in "33".
*We finally learn Dualla's first name as she is interviewed by D'anna Biers: Anastasia.
*Gaeta's first name is revealed as Felix. He also shows a wild side in the form of a tattoo on his chest, which he got when he was drunk, and he has taken up smoking. Perhaps this isn't so much a sign of a previously unrevealed wild side, but a sign that Gaeta's composure is starting to get frayed from constant stress. (This is confirmed in the following episode, "Flight of the Phoenix")
*The ECO known as Racetrack is given a full name: Margaret Edmondson.
*The music aired at the end of the documentary is the Colonial Fanfare last heard in the Miniseries: the theme from the original "Battlestar Galactica" TV series. In the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica, it is the anthem of the Twelve Colonies.
*Adama uses the phrase "warts and all." This phrase was coined by 17th-Century English dictator ("Lord Protector") Oliver Cromwell.
*Timeline-wise, Col. Tigh says there has been no Cylon contacts for 10 days. Col. Tigh was in command of Galactica for "over a week" (from "Scattered" to "Resistance").
*Colonial video feeds are octagonal, but video screens are (oddly) rectangular.
*Capt. Kelly appears fulfilling his duties as Landing Signal Officer by coordinating Viper landings. This scene further explains the "where was Kelly between the Mini-Series and Season 2" question: Kelly doesn't work in the CIC, but in the port flight pod itself.
*Roslin and Adama have not only buried the hatchet by this episode, but are working jointly and appear to have developed a camaraderie.
*This episode contains the first scene on Colonial One since "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II".
*Cultural/Linguistic oddity: Apollo refers to Kat and Hot Dog as "tweedledum and tweedledee", a reference to Lewis Carroll.
*In Helo's interview with D'anna Biers, the caption reads "Karl C. Agathon, Lieutenant, CF". This is not just a clipped writing of "Lieutenant, Junior Grade": according to an interview with Tahmoh Penikett, when Helo returned to Galactica after being stranded on Caprica for months he was promoted to full Lieutenant. However he had been wearing full Lieutenant rank insignia from the beginning of the series.
*The original airdate was to be September 2nd, 2005. However, SciFi Channel ran a Stargate SG-1 Viewers Choice Marathon for the Labor Day Weekend.

Analysis
*The Cylons deployed two Raiders to Galactica to transmit Biers's video documentary back to Caprica. Does this mean the Cylons know exactly where The Fleet is, and have simply chosen not to intercept it? Is keeping the Fleet alive part of their "Plan"?
** Possibly, in the "de-briefing" towards the end of the episode, Caprica-Biers means the two Raiders transmitted the footage she cut from the documentary (showing Helo's Boomer in sickbay). It is likely they meant that they picked up the whole "show" from Fleet transmissions and the snippet from the two Raiders.
**Or, are the Cylons now refraining from sending in a full basestar and Raider wing to attack Galactica because they are worried that a direct attack on Galactica will result in the death of Caprica-Valerii and her hybrid daughter? That is, they would have attacked it if this Valerii wasn't on board, but was sending two Raiders in now simply a reconnaissance mission? The Cylons did say that they want to proceed cautiously.
**However, the two Raiders didn't jump in to the Fleet's vicinity, they flew in normally. Perhaps the Cylons actually don't know exactly where the Fleet is, and these Raiders may have been searching for days to find them. Seeing as the Cylons on Caprica weren't aware that the Caprica-Valerii was still alive, perhaps they also truly aren't aware of the Fleet's location, and other Cylons in the Fleet cannot transmit messages back to Caprica because they are out of range (though a nearby Cylon ship might be close enough). (Answer)
**In light of all this, have the Cylons not been using their entire strength against the Colonials in combat? Have they, in effect, been "toying" with them? This could explain the relative lop-sidedness of the Colonials' military victories since the initial destruction of the Colonies.
*While preparing to film the interview with Dr. Baltar, Biers pulls out what is presumably the contraband tape of Sharon and hurriedly does something with it. This is likely a subtle foreshadowing that may not be fully comprehended until Biers's true nature is revealed and the episode is watched again; Biers was likely remembering that she has to set up the transmission of the video to the Cylons in the upcoming attack.
*Dualla states that Galactica's carbon dioxide scrubbers run "24 hours a day"; this would seem to establish that the Colonial Fleet operates on a 24-hour day. This could possibly be based on Caprica's orbital rotation (where the seat of the government was located). Yet, all 12 Colonies couldn't possible all have the same axial rotation time. This 24 hour day might seem an automatic assumption, but other science fiction series sometimes depart from the convention: For example, on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the titular space station actually runs on a 26 hour day, because it follows Bajor's local time (which has a 26 hour rotation period).
*On Colonial One, Roslin is no longer surrounded by her Presidential Security Service agents, but rather by Galactica Marines - Adama's insurance against any more misbehavior? Perhaps they were only there to escort Commander Adama while he was off of Galactica.

Questions
*Does Biers' discovery of pregnant Caprica-Valerii on Galactica alter her intended goal with the documentary?
*Would the documentary have presented Galactica and her crew in a more negative light and thus perform a journalistic hatchet job on how the rest of the fleet perceived Adama and the military?
*Would Adama and Roslin still have allowed the documentary to be broadcast if it had been 'negative?'
*Now that the documentary has aired, with Biers' image visibly throughout the film, has Sharon Valerii seen the film? Or, has the film been banned for her viewing?
*If she had viewed the documentary, would Valerii inform Galactica's command of Biers' true nature, or the identity of other agents in the Fleet, if they were known to her?
*Why was Biers not included in any press pools that occurred prior to her finding the Gideon tape and therefore making the acquaintance of the President and Commander Adama? Was she a tabloid reporter and not granted Presidential press room status?
*At the end of the episode, Biers says that the Cylons "lost two Raiders relaying the images back to the Fleet" from Galactica. She didn't say "from Galactica back to Caprica". Does this imply that there is a main Cylon fleet following Galactica? (That is, as opposed to many basestars spread out across a large region of space in a search pattern.) (Answer)
Noteworthy Dialogue
* After meeting Dr. Gaius Baltar for the first time:
*: D'anna Biers: What a strange little man.

* D'anna Biers is filming an interview with Apollo:
*: D'anna Biers: You seem to think that your pilots deserve special consideration.
*: Apollo: Actually, I do. Like everyone else, my pilots have lost their families, their friends, everyone they ever cared about; but on top of that they're asked to put their lives on the line every single day, for a fleet that seems more interested in what they do wrong than in what they do right. They're not asking for your pity, but they damn well deserve your respect.

* D'anna Biers is interviewing Racetrack:
*: D'anna Biers: Are you afraid when you go into combat?
*: Racetrack: First thing they tell you is to assume you're already dead.
*: D'anna Biers: Well that sounds ghoulish.
*: Racetrack: Yeah, maybe. But dead men don't get scared and freeze up under fire. Me, I'm just worried that hell's gonna be a lonely place, and I'm gonna fill it up with every Toaster son of a bitch I find.

* D'anna Biers is interviewing Lt. Gaeta. Gaeta is slightly disheveled, and is smoking a cigarette:
*: D'anna Biers: Does that help you cope with the stress?
*: Lt. Felix Gaeta: Not really. Look, um, all that I ever wanted was to be an officer on a Battlestar, okay? I trained my whole life, I trained harder than anyone in my unit. Basically, I put my life on hold until I was assigned to Galactica. Then the Cylons hit and I realized that this is all that I know: tech manuals, commands, and tactics, you know? I'm not saying that I'm unhappy...I'm just wondering if there's something more.
*: D'anna Biers: And what have you discovered?
*: Lt. Felix Gaeta: ...(takes a long drag, coughs)...I hate cigarettes. Ambrosia's good with a chaser. And, if you have enough Ambrosia...(Gaeta pulls back his shirt to reveal an ugly tattoo of a tiger on his upper right chest)...it don't hurt that much.

* The closing voice-over narration to D'anna Biers' documentary on the Battlestar Galactica, which runs over a montage of images from the ship. The Colonial Anthem tinkles in the background and gradually builds to up to a grand swell:
*: D'anna Biers: I came to Galactica to tell a story. In all honesty I thought I knew what that story was before I ever set foot there: how an arrogant military let their egos get in the way of doing their jobs, safeguarding the lives of the civilian population. But I found out that the truth was more complex than that. These people aren't Cylons. They're not robots blindly following orders and polishing their boots. They're people. Deeply flawed, yes, but deeply human too, and maybe that's saying the same thing. What struck me most is that despite it all - the hardships, the stress, the ever present danger of being killed - despite all that, they never give up. They never lie down in the road and let the truck run them over. They wake up in the morning, put on their uniforms and do their jobs. Every day. No pay, no rest, no hope of ever laying down the burden or letting someone else do the job. There are no relief troops coming, no Colonial Fleet training new recruits every day. The people on Galactica are it. They are the thin line of blue that separates us from the Cylons. Lt. Gaeta told me a remarkable statistic; not a single member of Galactica's crew has asked to resign, not one. Think about that. If you wore the uniform wouldn't you want to quit? To step aside and say "Enough! Let someone else protect the fleet?" I know I would. But then, I don't wear a uniform. Most of us don't, most of us never will. The story of Galactica isn't that people make bad decisions under pressure, it's that those mistakes are the exception. Most of the time the men and women serving under Commander Adama get it right. The proof is that our fleet survives. And with Galactica at our side, we will endure. This is D'anna Biers, Fleet News Service.

* The camera pulls back to show a movie theater on Cylon-occupied Caprica, where the humanoid Cylons are watching a copy of the documentary, as D'anna Biers' ending narration finishes:
*: Aaron Doral: That was shown across their entire fleet.
*: Number Six: Their resilience is remarkable.
*: Sharon Valerii: Play the footage that was cut. (camera footage plays of Helo's Sharon in Galactica's Sickbay)
*: Sharon Valerii: I'm still alive?! She's still alive! I told you.
*: Number Six: That's incredible. And the baby?
*: D'anna Biers: (speaking without her usual New Zealand accent, but with a general American accent) It was saved. We lost two Raiders relaying the images back to the Fleet, but I think the sacrifice was worth it.
*: Aaron Doral: We must proceed with caution. The child's life must be protected at all costs.
*: D'anna Biers: Yeah. Truly is a miracle from God.

Questions
*Did Biers' discovery of pregnant Caprica-Valerii on Galactica alter her intended goal with the documentary?
(That is, as opposed to many basestars spread out across a large region of space in a search pattern). (Answer).
*Did reporter D'Anna Biers and her crew go through Cylon detector before entering Battlestar Galactica?

Official Statements

*: Sharon Valerii: I'm still alive?! She's still alive! I told you.
*: Number Six: That's incredible. And the baby?
*: Aaron Doral: We must proceed with caution. The child's life must be protected at all costs.
*: D'anna Biers: Yeah. Truly is a miracle from God.

Overview
:Starvation threatens the population after the food-processing systems become contaminated, but the Fleet is cut off from a food source by the intense radiation put out by a huge star cluster. Galacticas pilots must guide the civilian vessels on a dangerous journey directly through the radiation.

Summary
On Galactica
*Athena flies a Raptor through a blinding, immensely bright gas cloud. The Raptor's outer skin is charring from the intense heat. Athena is managing to fight off the intense radiation buildup surrounding her, thanks to her Cylon physiology, but a radiation monitor badge she wears is changing color from white, spotting to an ominous black.
*Elsewhere in the Fleet, President Laura Roslin summarizes the contamination of the basic foodstuff material storage used to feed everyone, from soldier to civilian. The situation is dire; 7 to 10 days of rations remain. The Fleet is starving.
*A group of pilots, including Lee Adama, Kara Thrace, Hot Dog and Louanne Katraine, are combining what little food they have and sharing it, down to the last crumb.
*Admiral William Adama and his command staff await Athena's return from her reconnaisance mission to what they believe is a planet that has basic algae, which isn't extremely palatable but is protein-rich and will allow them to restock their food stores and survive. Athena is three hours late from return.
*Athena does make it back to Galactica. While her radiation badge is black, her Cylon physiology protects her (although she is obviously uncomfortable). She reports success; the planet is teeming with algae.
*But the travel through the star cluster is extremely dangerous. Two jumps are required to reach the planet on the other side of the cluster, which cannot be circumnavigated. The navigation computers of any civilian ships inside the cluster would be inoperative due to insufficient shielding and the intense radiation leaves a ship only minutes to gather their bearings for the second jump out before they absorb a fatal dose of radiation. Any ship would also have to endure the intense heat as well.
*Galactica alone cannot be used to ferry the people, and the civilian ships alone would not make the trip as they would get lost within the cluster cloud. There is too much algae for Galactica to bring the food to the people in time.
*The Adamas consider the use of the Raptors, whose navigation systems are radiation-hardened to protect against nuclear strikes, as pilot ships that will guide a group of civilian ships at a time by visual reckoning, relaying the proper jump coordinates once visual sighting is made to get the ships to the other side. Five jumps are needed, and skeleton crews are used on each civilian ship to limit the Fleet's possible losses, with the civilians temporarily transferred to Galactica, which will survive the radiation effects thanks to the battlestar's dense hull plating (Miniseries).
*A group of civilians are bunked on Galactica from the civilian ships. One of them recognizes Kat, but calls out for her by another name: "Sasha." Kat reacts angrily to the man, Enzo, and barely acknowledges his call before warning him to back off.
*The pilots are briefed on the plan, and each given radiation badges. When Major Adama encourages the use of stims, Kat objects, warning that stims work by boosting the body's metabolism. In their starvation state, the stims would make them ill. Adama leaves the use of the drug to the pilot's discretion.
*Colonel Saul Tigh returns to the CIC and is greeted by a round of applause from the crew. He promptly reminds them that they have "jobs to do". He has presumably resumed his post as XO of Galactica.
*The first outbound flight into the cluster begins. The Adriatic is lost when its Raptor guide, flown by Hot Dog, cannot locate her.
*Successive trips continue, but another ship, the Carina, guided by Kat, is lost as well, which greatly angers and saddens her. She stays in the cloud a few minutes too long during her extended search, and her radiation badge becomes dark.
*In the hangar deck, Thrace notices Enzo interacting with Kat and gets suspicious. She later questions Enzo and later, Kat.
*Kat begs Thrace not to tell Admiral Adama about her past life as a drug runner and the fact that she acquired her name, "Louanne Katraine," from a child that died two days before the Cylon attack, using it to clear Galacticas pilot screening when she was a nugget. Thrace accepts her offer, warning her to embrace who she really is.
*Feeling backed into a corner, Kat is physically stressed. Her hair is falling out, a sign of radiation poisoning. Fearful of what will happen to her if Admiral Adama finds out, she chooses to continue her Raptor flights, swapping her radiation badge with Helo's. She allows herself a sexual romp with Enzo before preparing for the last outbound flight.
*The last outbound trip is more destructive. Even Galactica cannot withstand the heat and begins to suffer heat-related decompression failures throughout its hull. Adama orders his son to wrap out visual sighting and perform the escape jump.
*Kat cannot find her last ship. Realizing she had already absorbed too much radiation, she elects to remain in the cloud to continue searching for her lost ship.
*Galactica waits for several frightening minutes until both Kat's Raptor and the last civilian ship rejoin them.
*Kat is greeted by the command staff and many crewmembers to celebrate her accomplishment. The young pilot pumps her arms in the air and tries to remove her helmet before she collapses from radiation poisoning.
*In sickbay, Kara Thrace talks to Kat, whose exposure to the cloud's radiation was too extreme. Thrace recants a part of her conversation with Kat and her origins, and tries unsuccessfully to leave Kat's bedside with a smile before leaving the dying pilot with a bottle of sleeping pills as a gesture of self-euthanization. Kat thanks her.
*Admiral Adama stands by Kat's bedside immediately after Thrace's departure. Kat attempts to confess her past, but Adama tells her that her past will not change the heroic thing she did for the Fleet. He gives her the status of CAG once more, a position she held from colonization of New Caprica to Major Adama's return to Galactica, despite the fact that Kat will not survive to fly again.
*Adama stays at Kat's bedside, talking with her and how he would have loved to have had a third child, commenting that he, like his ex-wife, Caroline, would have liked a daughter.
*Some time later, the pilots assemble in their ready room as Admiral Adama changes the pilot organization chart, placing Kat as the CAG.
*Kara Thrace enters Galacticas memorial hallway and tacks a photo of Kat on the board. She cries quietly as Lee Adama looks on from a distance.

On a basestar
*Baltar notices that Number Three keeps going off somewhere and wonders what she is doing. Caprica-Six tells him that the other Cylons are also concerned about Three's activities.
*Baltar confronts Three about her unexplained absences and surmises that she has been dying and resurrecting over and over again.
*Baltar and Three discuss the final five Cylon agents, who are apparently the figures Three has been seeing between life and death. Baltar wonders aloud if he could be one of them, making him a hero to the Cylons instead of a traitor to the Colonials. Three tries to hold onto the memory of what they look like, but it always fades. Her drawings of them aren't very distinct.
*Baltar and Three visit the Hybrid's chamber. Against Three's advice, Baltar reaches out to touch the Hybrid and she grabs his hand. She says a number of cryptic things which Baltar pieces together as clues about a planet where the Eye of Jupiter can be found, as well as something related to the final five. Baltar states that he is convinced that everything the hybrid says has meaning.

Questions
*Was the Fleet-wide failure of food-processing systems a result of sabotage? If so, were Cylons responsible, or someone else?
*Was assisted suicide an accepted practice in the Colonies, even if not by a practicing physician?
*Are there going to be radiation consequences for the pilots exposed to the conditions of the star cluster, especially those pilots who did in fact have a black indicator?
*How many pilots and crew were lost on the two civilian ships Adriatic and Carina? Will their loss cause problems for the civilians that used to live on them?

Analysis
*The ranking shuffle resumes in this episode: Tigh returns to the CIC as XO, sending Helo back to the flight lines as a senior flight officer (his rank of Captain seems unaffected). At the end of the episode, Kat is posthumously given honorary CAG status, although Apollo is still de facto CAG.
*Baltar calls the Number Three "D'Anna", to which she responds. This indicates a high likelyhood of her being the same copy that was on Galactica and making her one of a few Cylons that has a name instead of just being a model. However, it may simply indicate acceptance of Baltar's custom of referring to and addressing some models by their "human" names—in this same scene, Baltar refers to "the relevant Simon" and in prior episodes refers to "one of the Dorals"' views on toilet paper. This custom is shared with the other humans, such as Ellen Tigh who mentions "one of the Brother Cavils", and Adama, who refers to both the Ragnar Anchorage copy and the stowaway copy in "Flesh and Bone" as "Leoben Conoy".
*Number Three does not know what the final five Cylon agent models look like, at least not consciously.
*No anti-radiation injections were seen to be used by the pilots. Unless they administered offscreen this could either mean that the Fleet's supplies are used up, or that even the medication doesn't help against such intense levels of stellar radiation.
*While it has not been conclusively established that the five figures are in fact the "Final Five" Cylon agents, the first sketch of the alleged "Final Five" that Number Three shows Baltar depicts be two male and three female figures. If this proves accurate then of the twelve Cylon models there are six males and six females.
* One of D'Anna's sketches in particular appears to depict the profile of a mustached and bearded male with long hair—a possible reference to Baltar; later in the episode after Baltar communes with the hybrid, D'Anna says "Could there be a connection between their gods and ours?" where "their" refers to the polytheistic human pantheon and "ours," the Cylon single god, a possible slip on her part indicating that she believes Baltar to be a Cylon.
*Baltar's grooming has declined steadily since the Fall of the Colonies. While no longer a messy drunk as he was on New Caprica, he has grown a scraggly and untrimmed beard.

Notes
*This is one of the few times an air group org chart is visible. The CAG (now Kat) is in the top slot; directly below her are (presumably) the squadron leaders (Apollo, Starbuck, Two Times, and a fourth whose name is never visible to the camera). Pilots and ECOs may be listed below their squadron leaders in descending order of seniority (both Helo and Hot Dog, for example, are listed directly beneath their squadron leader, Starbuck, and the two of them are definitely among the senior flight officers for Galactica).
*A perilous journey by the "rag-tag" Fleet in the Original Series, where pilots are also critical to the Fleet's safety, appears in its series premiere, "Saga of a Star World."
*"The Passage" was written by Galactica newcomer Jane Espenson. The episode arose when the show brought in Dr. Kevin Grazier, a scientist from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who talked about how one would navigate through space; how one would figure out how to get from one point in the to universe to, for example, Earth. Grazier's talk prompted the story at the heart of Espenson's episode.
*On the memorial wall Kat's picture is placed below the one of Riley's girlfriend she herself put there in "Scar".
*This episode marks the destruction of two civilian ships, the Adriatic and Carina. This will likely result in more crowded conditions on the other ships in The Fleet.
*This is the second episode in which dialog has been censored in the Sci Fi Channel broadcast. Starbuck sarcastically proclaims she gave Dr. Cottle "head" in response to Kat saying she gave him her protein bar.

Noteworthy Dialogue
*Adama and Tigh discuss the food shortage
::Adama: I hear they're still eating paper. Is that true?
::Tigh: No. Paper shortage.

*Starbuck gives a last minute pep talk to the pilots
::Starbuck: Remember, we're all flying solo on this mission. So that means there'll be nobody there to bitch slap you if you start to get tired or start seeing little toasters on your wing.

Official Statements
In Ron Moore's blog on July 27th, 2006:

:"We were pretty excited to have Jane too. I actually took Jane's first pitch way back in my early days at Star Trek and I had the pleasure of buying what turned out to be her first sale. I hadn't seen her since, but I'd followed her career from afar and was very proud to see her do so well. Turns out that Jane was a huge fan of Galactica and really wanted to do a script for us, so we jumped on the chance. I think we're all hoping that we could get her on staff at some point in the future, but we'll have to wait and see how everything shakes out for Season Four -- and whether she's even available, she's very much in demand these days. Her episode this year is "The Passage" (originally Ep 9) and deals with a harrowing voyage of the rag-tag fleet and focuses on Kat."

*Biers and her cameraman are walking through the halls when Brendan "Hot Dog" Constanza and Louanne "Kat" Katraine chase each other out of the showers wearing towels.

Tigh gets out and Tyrol tells him it looks like someone sabotoged the Raptor with a hammer, and if they had gotten into space the atmosphere inside would have vented, killing him.

A second, Caprica-based copy of D'anna Biers then turns around (Biers is now revealed to have been a Cylon agent the whole time), and tells her that both Caprica-Valerii and her baby survived her near-miscarriage. Aaron Doral says that the baby must be protected at all costs, and they must proceed with caution.

Questions
*The Cylons deployed two Raiders to Galactica to transmit D'anna's video documentary back to Caprica. Does this mean the Cylons know exactly where The Fleet is, and have simply chosen not to intercept it? Is keeping the Fleet alive part of their "Plan"?
** Possibly, in the "de-briefing" towards the end of the episode, Caprica-D'anna meant the two Raiders transmitted the footage she cut from the documentary (showing Helo's Boomer in the Sickbay).
**Then again, the two Raiders didn't jump in to the Fleet's vicinity, they flew in normally.
*Did Biers' discovery of pregnant Caprica-Valerii on Galactica alter her intended goal with the documentary?
**Would the documentary have presented Galactica and her crew in a more negative light and thus perform a journalistic hatchet job on how the rest of the fleet perceived Adama and the military?
**Would Adama and Roslin still have allowed the documentary to be broadcast if it had been 'negative?'
*Now that the documentary has aired, with Biers' image visibly throughout the film, has Sharon Valerii seen the film? Or, has the film been banned for her viewing?
**If she had viewed the documentary, would Valerii inform Galactica's command of Biers' true nature, or the identity of other agents in the Fleet?
***Does Valerii actually "know" what all of the other Cylon models look like? She seems to have been on a need-to-know basis when it came to Cylon intelligence ("The Farm"), and she might not actually know "who" all of the other models are, if this particular copy of Sharon has never met them.
*Why was Biers not included in any press pools that occurresd prior to her finding the Gideon tape and therefore making the acquaintance of the President and Commander Adama? Was she a tabloid reporter and not granted Presidential press room status?
*Did reporter D'Anna Biers and her crew go through Cylon detector before entering Battlestar Galactica?

Analysis
*At the end of the episode, D'anna says that the Cylons "lost two Raiders relaying the images back to the Fleet" from Galactica. She didn't say "from Galactica back to Caprica".
**Does this imply that there is a main Cylon fleet following Galactica? (That is, as opposed to many Basestars spread out across a large region of space in a search pattern). (Answer).
*While preparing to film the interview with Dr. Baltar, Biers pulls out what is presumably the contraband tape of Sharon and hurriedly does something with it. This is lilkely a subtle foreshadowing that may not be fully comprehended until Biers's true nature is revealed and the episode is watched again; Biers was likely remembering that she has to set up the transmission of the video to the Cylons in the upcoming attack.

Notes
*Population count is now 47,853, a loss of two since Home, Part II, to account for the two Tom Zarek henchmen killed in that episode.
*Onboard Colonial One, Roslin is no longer surrounded by her Presidential Security Service agents, but rather by Galactica Marines - Adama's insurance against any more misbehavior, perhaps?
**Perhaps they were only there to escort Commander Adama while he was off of Galactica.
*D'anna Biers makes the same comment about Baltar that Roslin made in 33.
*We finally learn Dualla's first name as she is interviewed by D'anna Biers: Anastasia.
*Gaeta's first name is revealed as Felix. He also showed a wild side in the form of a tattoo on his chest he got when he was drunk. He's also taken up smoking. Perhaps this isn't so much a sign of a previously unrevealed wild side, but a sign that Gaeta's composure is starting to get frayed from constant stress. (This is confirmed in the following episode, "Flight of the Phoenix".)
*The ECO known as Racetrack has a full name: Margaret Edmondson.
*The music aired at the end of the documentary is the Colonial Fanfare last heard in the Miniseries: the theme from the original "Battlestar Galactica" TV series. In the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica, it is apparently the "national anthem" of the Twelve Colonies.
*Adama uses the phrase "warts and all." This phrase was coined by 17th-Century English dictator ("Lord Protector") Oliver Cromwell.
*Timeline-wise, Col. Tigh says there's been no Cylon contacts for 10 days.
*Dualla states that Galactica's carbon dioxide scrubbers run "24 hours a day"; this would seem to establish that the Colonial Fleet operates on a 24-hour day. This could possibly be based on Caprica's orbital rotion (where the seat of the Government was located); still, all 12 Colonies couldn't possible all have the same axial rotation time. This 24 hour day might seem an automatic assumption, but keep in mind that on other scifi series set in space there isn't always a 24 hour day: For example, on Deep Space Nine, space station Deep Space Nine actually runs on a 26 hour day, because it follows Bajor-time (which has a 26 hour rotation period).
*The original airdate was to be September 2nd, 2005. However, SciFi Channel ran a Stargate SG-1 Viewers Choice Marathon for the Labor Day Weekend.

And, if you have enough Ambrosia...(Gaeta pulls back his shirt to reveal an ugly tatoo of a tiger on his upper right chest)...it don't hurt that much.

Let someone else protect the fleet"? I know I would.

"Number Six" is a stunning blonde who plays several key roles in the Cylon military. She is the first Cylon agent that viewers witness in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica saga.

Armistice Station Copy
Number Six is a portent of doom for the peoples of the Twelve Colonies; she arrives on Armistice Station shortly before it is destroyed in what are the opening shots of the Cylon attack in the Miniseries. Dressed in a long-sleeved red tunic and matching knee-length skirt, she is the first and last "diplomat" ever sent to the station by the Cylons since its construction. She greets the Colonial officer present with the question "Are you alive?" When he answers that he is alive, she tells him to prove it - by kissing her. After he realizes that Armistice is under attack, she smiles and forces another kiss on him shortly before they are both destroyed.

Later, three Sixes in the same outfit are among the group of Cylons that rescue and debrief Aaron Doral, following his stranding on Ragnar Anchorage by the suspicious Colonials. One of them responds to a comment of the Eight in the group with "By Your Command," a trademark Cylon phrase in the Original Series.<br clear="both" />
:For more, see the article, "Caprica-Six."

The copy of Number Six that seduced Dr. Gaius Baltar into unwittingly betraying the Twelve Colonies by giving her access to the Colonial defense mainframe.

Baltar's Internal Six
:For more, see the article "Cylon-Related Hallucinations".
Fleeing Caprica City and then the planet itself, Baltar is shocked to discover that the woman he had a relationship with on Caprica lives on - inside his head.

Caprican Troop Leaders
At least 3 additional variants of Six have been operational on Caprica, and appear to lead Cylon Centurion squads and have a subservient role to the "overseer" Six variants. This variant of Six is distinguished by the white raincoat it wears.

One of these variants distracted Helo, enabling him to be captured. In this, she shared the same seductive characteristic as shown by her "sisters" at Armistice station and with Baltar - her first act on "freeing" the captured Agathon is to ask "Are you alive?" and kiss him. (33) She was subsequently shot by Valerii.

The second acted as an observer to Helo's "escape", and this same variant may have been leading the Centurion troops into the Caprican farm Helo was hiding in (The Hand of God).

The third was present at Delphi, taking orders from an "overseer" Six (Colonial Day).
<br clear="both" />

Caprican Overseer Copies
On Caprica, Six performs the role of a Cylon overseer, working with Aaron Doral to ensure their experiment involving the stranded Karl Agathon and Valerii either reaches its desired conclusion, or is suitably terminated (Bastille Day, Act of Contrition, Litmus, Flesh and Bone, Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down). These copies of Number Six wear a militaristic black outfit, with a black body-suit underneath suited to martial arts.

Following the destruction of a "troop leader" Six (shot by Valerii, in order to enable her to "rescue" Agathon), her "sister" on Caprica demonstrates a certain vindictiveness towards Valerii when giving her a beating that goes far beyond the needs of the experiment (Litmus), thus revealing she may well be experiencing resentment for being shot (remembering that experiences and knowledge are passed from body to body among the various types of Cylon agents), as well as jealousy at Valerii's chosen role in the proceedings.

A further "overseer" Six is present at the Cylon's established base at Delphi, and is briefly seen by Helo when he attempts to gain access to the base in order to steal a ship and get off the planet (Colonial Day).

Perhaps this same overseer-Six surprised Starbuck in the Delphi Museum when she returned to Caprica to retrieve the Arrow of Apollo. They engaged in an all-out brawl, and just as Six appeared to be winning Starbuck rushed her, knocking both of them off of a ledge. This Number Six fell underneath Starbuck, breaking Kara's fall, and was impaled on building debris, killing her (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II).

Another "overseer" Six was present at the "farm" where Starbuck was taken after she was incapacitated by the Cylons. While the Cylon doctor Simon operated on her, Six was there to relay orders and see that everything was proceeding smoothly. She was definitely the controlling figure of the operation. This copy was later bashed over the head with a fire extinguisher by Kara Thrace as she made her escape (The Farm).

Yet another overseer, or possibly one of the previously witnessed copies, viewed D'anna Biers' broadcast in a theatre on Cylon-occupied Caprica in the episode "Final Cut". She remarked that the resilience displayed by the Colonials was impressive, and seemed overjoyed that Sharon's hybrid baby survived.

Shelly Godfrey
A copy of Number Six that physically appears on board Galactica to try to discredit Baltar as a traitor, using evidence which was flawed, so that he ended up being more popular than before. For more, see the article, "Shelly Godfrey."

Gina
:For more, see the article, "Gina."
A copy of Number Six captured aboard the battlestar Pegasus and repeatedly tortured and sexually abused by the crew, before escaping with Baltar's help.

"Downloaded"
In this episode, a Number Six in a gold tunic is one of four 'rebirth nurses' who greets the reincarnated Caprica-Six (this takes place shortly after the Cylon Attack has run its course), and it is likely this same group who nurse Boomer as she returns to life several months later. The Six in the group welcomes Boomer home and refers to her as "little sister".

Several other copies of Six were seen on Caprica in a variety of different outfits, which could indicate different functions or simply fashion choices.

Notes
*The name "Number Six" is, according to "Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion" (Titan Books, 2005), written by David Bassom, an indirect tribute to Patrick McGoohan's cult 1967 television series The Prisoner - a series that addressed topics such as personal freedom and identity, mind control, illusionary experiences and the infiltration of society's supposed guardians (secret agents) by a nefarious force (those behind The Village). Ron Moore himself later confirmed in his blog that the name is an homage to The Prisoner. Ironically, in 2006 the BBC announced that they are going to produce a remake (perhaps, "Re-imagination"?) of The Prisoner, starring former Doctor Who lead Christopher Eccleston as "Number Six".
*According to Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion, Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell were hand-picked for their roles, while the rest of the characters were cast by audition: among the actresses in the running for the role of "Number Six" was The O.C.'s Melinda Clarke, though the role ultimately went to Tricia Helfer.
