Laven: /* All spoilers permitted (current policy) */

== Complaints and Concerns ==

I hate the spoiler policy. I don't want to be spoiled. I won't be using or contributing to the site significantly until after the end of the season and before you start spoiling season 3.

Character summaries in particular should be free of spoilers like "died in tbe episode Scattered," (before it aired), especially when the character doesn't die in Scattered after all when it finally airs.

Socinus lives!

-MHall

: I personally go by group consensus. If the consensus is that spoiler information is used, then that's the consensus; if it is vice-versa, then spoiler information isn't used (or packaged so as not to spoil the casual reader). As we're an '''information resource and episode guide''', spoilers are a necessary evil. Some of the spoiler information changes from script to shooting, hence the inaccurate statement of Socinus' death in "Scattered"; it doesn't preclude him dying later on due to his injuries, so he may still die this season.

: For instance, I noted that details often change from the initial script to the final shooting. Permit me to use Boomer as an example: her being a human Cylon was never in the previous versions of the mini-series script, but changed -- indirectly -- after one of Ron Moore's friends made a quip about there not being a "By your command" line in the script. (That information came from the mini-series DVD commentary track.) -- [[User:Joe.Beaudoin|Joe Beaudoin]] 09:41, 17 Jul 2005 (EDT)

Actually, I think that there is no way of making a spoiler-free version for everybody and making it work, too - because some country will always be the last to air the show, and by then, parts of the rest of the world will have forgotten about it already.

There is however one exception: There should really be no spoilers for shows that have not even aired, or at least not anywhere but that episode's summary. Otherwise, there is really no way one can enjoy this wiki ''and'' the show. (Happened for me with Home II.) I would even go as far as extending the no-spoilers for not-yet-aired shows for 24 hrs after the show, again, with the exception of the episodes's page. Because, let's fact it, lots of people will use P2P to see the show, because otherwise it would be years until they get to see it. (And if they are unlucky, they would have to see a synchronised version, too.) So the latter suggestion would enable them to look up things here while not having to wait for the show to arrive.

And one final thing: Spoiling from the scripts does not even make much sense - as the first poster on this page points out; and the audio comments imply the same. So my guess would be that spoiling not-yet aired shows will put off users from using this site, which is hardly a good thing, and it doesn't make much sense in the first place to do so, because the scripts will not air the way they were written, anyway. So I really would suggest a <u> No spoilers for unaired shows</u> policy. -- [[User:Still not king|Still not king]] 12:32, 28 August 2005 (EDT)

::I agree. We gain very little by jumping the gun on upcoming episode spoilers - for example, I didn't need to know that spoileriffic note on the episode summary for [[Resurrection Ship]] at all. There's no reason not to be patient with these things. I do not agree, however, with a 24 hour injunction against posting episode details - we should be able to start wiki-ing as soon as it airs in our respective timezones. If we want to stay spoiler free on the west coast, we can always just not log on during the three hour window. Likewise, when the brits start getting Season 2, Part II before we do, we shouldn't force ourselves to wait for the U.S. airings. --[[User:Peter Farago|Peter Farago]] 12:45, 28 August 2005 (EDT)

:::I was intentionally proposing ''just'' 24 hours - that is what it might take to get to see the show if you have to get it by P2P, and in the meantime, one might still want to check out something -- not the episode summary, of course, but a plain page about a character. It's a minor part of my proposal, though -- the important one is No spoilers of unaired shows. -- [[User:Still not king|Still not king]] 20:13, 28 August 2005 (EDT)

::::I really like the idea of not posting regarding unaired shows. There's no way to avoid spoilers for shows that have aired already, but the show doesn't really exist until it's aired, in a way (insofar that it might be changed). I also really like the idea of a 24-hour wait period after the first (and thus, British, right?) air time. A day isn't that long, really, and I'm not sure about anyone else, but these episodes make my mind race and I'd probably be too excited if I went straight from the sofa to the computer after watching. --[[User:Day|Day]] 14:35, 29 August 2005 (EDT)

:::::One of the nice things about the wiki system is that if you post something innacurate or overzealous, someone else can come along and tone it down a bit. I'm starting a vote. --[[User:Peter Farago|Peter Farago]] 15:03, 29 August 2005 (EDT)

:This is rediculous. You come onto a site that has a quite obvious spoiler policy on the front fage, you go to read about upcoming episodes, and then you cry about being spoiled. Gee, obviously the best way to solve this is to stop people from posting new information. [[User:Kuralyov|Kuralyov]] 08:51, 31 August 2005 (EDT)

:The whole debate is a bit odd to me. "Spoilers" by definition have to do with un-aired episodes, and anything written about un-aired episodes is, by definition, speculation. That speculation may be more informed or less, but it's still just that, ''speculation''. You have to watch the episode to find out what actually happens. If anything maybe there should be a reminder on un-aired ep pages that the information may or may not be accurate. Back in the day, there was another sci-fi show, "Babylon 5" which had/has a website much like this one - "The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5." The Lurker's Guide, while being an accurate and detailed guide to the show, was also a haven for every kind of spoilage and speculation imaginable, which I and many others found only enhanced our enjoyment of the show. --[[User:Astarte|Astarte]] 05:22, 3 September 2005 (EDT)

::I was also a fan of the lurker's guide. I think an important difference here is that the production staff of B5 (ie, JMS) were very tight-lipped and conscious of avoiding big spoilers. The staff of the Re-imagined series have been much looser, and credible spoilers for various production details have been leaked far and wide throughout the first half of the second season. --[[User:Peter Farago|Peter Farago]] 13:25, 3 September 2005 (EDT)
== Spoiler Warning ==

How about episode pages that have not been aired yet get a spoiler tag, so that people that can contribute to them knowing full well that they'll likely be spoiled? Same can be done with character and event pages, so that information introduced to them from episodes not yet aired can also be used on this Wiki without fear of spoiling those that do not wish it. Thoughts?-- [[User:Joe.Beaudoin|Joe Beaudoin]] 09:39, 31 August 2005 (EDT)

:I'm afraid it wouldn't do me much good, since I read the diffs on everything on the recent edits page anyway. Maybe we could allow spoilers on episode summary pages but discourage them elsewhere? Avoiding the episode summaries isn't very hard. --[[User:Peter Farago|Peter Farago]] 12:11, 31 August 2005 (EDT)

I found this problem with the Pegasus ep and related data. I wanted to keep the Fall of the Twelve Colonies page accurate with what we knew about surviving Battlestars, but this is still a spoiler, so the data there is left a bit vague unless someone digs for it. Still, a spoiler is a spoiler. The talk page would satisfy both spoiler-hunter and seeker on an episode article. We'd just need to add a "Spoiler" topic there, and note to people that if you are going to see an episode page for a show that hasn't aired, you are asking for it, literally. At least the talk page has an extra layer for avoiders to have, but because of the nature of this wiki, eliminating spoilers takes away a lot of the research fun. Data's gotta go somewhere and we can't commit the juicy bits for the main page to memory until the ep is aired. [[User:Spencerian|Spencerian]] 12:40, 31 August 2005 (EDT)

::This is going to be awkward, but I feel like we should add this as an option in the vote. Also adding a note on approval voting. --[[User:Peter Farago|Peter Farago]] 12:53, 31 August 2005 (EDT)

:::I dislike the thought of having to move massive amounts of text. So far, I've been avoiding pages to do with unaired episodes. That's easy enough. My main concern is someone clicking through and wondering, "Who the ''heck'' is Gina?", thinking it's some pilot who's name they missed or some small character. Then they read about an episode they didn't want to. Or, in another case, someone reading all about Lee and the information going on, at the end, past the most recent episode. I think keeping character pages clear is the better idea. --[[User:Day|Day]] 17:01, 1 September 2005 (EDT)

=== Subpage? ===

How about comitting spoilers to a subpage of an article? For instance, [[Pegasus (episode)]] would have a subpage called [[Pegasus (episode)/Spoilers]]? I believe that would be fairly straight forward, given the title of the subpage. :-)

Then, after the episode airs, we can simply merge the contents together from the spoiler page into the main page of the article in question. Just my view. -- [[User:Joe.Beaudoin|Joe Beaudoin]] 12:48, 31 August 2005 (EDT)

:This sounds like a lot of work. I actually agree with Spencerian that anyone who clicks on the episode page for an unaired episode is explicitly asking for it. Additionally, those are easy edits to avoid reading. I'm going to go and complicate things now... --[[User:Peter Farago|Peter Farago]] 12:53, 31 August 2005 (EDT)
== What is a spoiler? ==
In response to Day's query below ("So what constitutes a spoiler for this new voting catagory?"): I believe a spoiler is anything from an as-yet-unaired show. Examples: Lucy Lawless's character, Cain, Gina, etc. I think the revelation about Boomer is fair game, as that was the end of the Mini-Series. It's hard to escape that fact when most press articles now refer to her as a Cylon. For the purposes of my argument and vote, a "spoiler" is any information that has not yet been broadcast. Is that a fair assessment? -- [[User:Ryq|ryq]] 16:40, 1 September 2005 (EDT)

:I concur with this definition. I just thought it would pay to be absolutely clear. --[[User:Day|Day]] 16:56, 1 September 2005 (EDT)

:What about various countries using this page? What an Australian considers a spoiler may already be known via broadcast in the states. Using this logic, spoiler pages could end up lasting for literally months after an original broadcast. --[[User:adedward|Adedward]] 16:15, 3 September 2005 (EDT)

:: Which is a problem with a "no spoiler" spoiler policy... Different countries see episodes at different times. Fact of the matter remains that there will always be spoilers within the wiki, so there will always be an "all spoilers permitted" policy -- in that way. The current discussion, however, is more towards spoiling episodes that haven't aired ''anywhere''. -- [[User:Joe.Beaudoin|Joe Beaudoin]] 18:37, 3 September 2005 (EDT)

== Overview ==
: ''[[Kara Thrace]] is shot and wakes up in a remote hospital facility on [[Caprica]], and learns that her friendly doctor has his own plans for her future.''

== Summary ==

=== On Caprica ===

*[[Starbuck]], [[Helo]], and two members of the Resistance ([[Anders]] and [[Sue-Shaun]], who were introduced in the last episode) devise a plan to escape from [[Caprica]] by commandeering a [[Cylon Heavy Raider]] from a nearby airstrip. They will fit as many people as possible onto the craft, and will dispatch a rescue mission for the remainder upon return to [[Galactica]].
*As the team is about to assault the airstrip, they are ambushed, and Kara is hit by a bullet that grazes off her head and gets lodged in her abdomen. She loses consciousness.
*[[Kara]] wakes up in a hospital. She is being attended to by a doctor named [[Simon]], who tells her that she was brought into the hospital by Anders, and that Anders died from a shrapnel wound. Kara is devastated.
*Kara spends the next few days conversing with Simon, who muses that women capable of bearing children are a rare "commodity" now that the [[Cylons]] have nuked the colonies, and suggests that Kara should consider giving birth to a child.
*Simon speculates that Kara's reluctance to have children stems from her mother having abused her when she was young, as evidenced by a pattern of fractures in her fingers. This topic upsets her.
*Kara wakes to discover a new scar on her abdomen. Simon tells her it's from an operation he did to stop some bleeding, but Kara doesn't believe him.
*Kara fakes sleep, and when Simon leaves, she follows him into the hallway, where she overhears him having a conversation with a copy of [[Number Six]] about the "complete removal" of her ovaries scheduled for the next day.
*Back in bed, Kara stabs Simon and escapes the room. Lurching around the deserted hospital, she stumbles upon a room full of semi-conscious women wired horrifically to machines. Among them is Sue-Shaun, who begs Kara to destroy the "baby machines" and end their misery. She obliges with a prayer, a pair of medical tongs, and a primal scream.
*Kara staggers outside, braining the Six model with a fire extinguisher in the process, only to find a new Simon standing there to greet her. Just then, [[Helo]] and the rest of the resistance emerge from the woods. They pepper Simon with bullets, but soon get bogged down in a firefight with a squad of [[Cylon Centurion|Centurions]]. Time for the second rescue in as many minutes: Caprica-Boomer ([[Sharon Valerii]]) swoops down in a stolen [[Cylon Heavy Raider]] and blows the enemy away.
*Kara relates her experiences in the hospital to the others. C-Boomer explains that the [[Cylons]] have a flaw which renders them unable to reproduce biologically, and that they have been holding human women in "farms" to try to implant them with human/Cylon embryos. This effort has failed, however, leading the Cylons to believe that conception requires "love". According to this theory, C-Boomer was able to conceive with Helo because of their love for each other.
*Helo, Sharon, and Starbuck leave Caprica on the Heavy Raider. Starbuck has promised [[Anders]] to return someday to rescue the Resistance. In the meantime, Anders says he will try to destroy as many farms as he can.

===On Galactica===

*Commander Adama returns to duty, and is greated by applause in the CIC. He tells the crew that he loves them all.
*To try to rally support to the president, Zarek wants Apollo to make a recording denouncing his father. Apollo stops in the middle of it and says he can't go through with that. It's left to Roslin to win over the fleet.
* Roslin plays the "religion card" to convince a third of the fleet to jump with her to Kobol despite an infuriated and staunchly secular Adama. She transfers to the [[Astral Queen]] from which she transmits a message imploring the Fleet to follow her and the path the [[Lords of Kobol]] have set out for her. Adama didn't board the Astral Queen because he thought only three or four ships would seriously listen to her religious nonsense. Instead, 24 ships ("almost a third of the Fleet") go with her.
*Cally is thrown in the brig for killing Galactica-Boomer. Chief Tyrol implores Adama to release her, because she was traumatized by events on Kobol on not in her right mind when she did it. Adama agrees to let her off easy by charging her with discharging a firearm without permission, which gives her only one month in the brig.
*Adama asks Tyrol if he could love Boomer even though she was a machine. Tyrol isn't quite sure, but it becomes apparent that Adama is asking himself the question as much as he is Tyrol; Adama loved all of his pilots like his children.
*Adama visits Galactica-Boomer's body in the morgue. He asks "Why?" then breaks down crying over her body.

== Questions ==
*Caprica-Boomer says that she knows that [[Leoben Conoy]] told Kara she was special during his interrogation aboard the ''Galactica''; how could she have known this? How do the Cylon agents communicate to each other?
**Since it is confirmed that Humano-Cylon bodies do transmit their consciousness or updated information from body to body upon death, this implies that '''all''' models share memories between each other, no matter where they are. Caprica-Boomer seems to know much of Galactica's state of affairs when asked. If such communication is the case, wouldn't the relative strength of such a signal from the body be a tip-off for Colonials to locate the remaining Cylon infiltrators?
**Boomer also says that she "hasn't accessed that data" when asked how many farms there are. Does this mean that Cylons transmit information only upon death? She knew about Leoben during [[Flesh and Bone]] but she doesn't know the thoughts of the other Cylons on the planet who have not died. Conversely the Cylons seem unaware of her rebellious thoughts.
**Leoben appeared to acknowledge in "[[Flesh and Bone]]" that he was too far from Cylon forces for his personality to be recovered. Was he able to covertly transmit his memories to one of the Basestars encountered in [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]] or [[Scattered]] by way of another agent?
*Will we see Simon again? Is he one of the eight Cylon agents hiding in the fleet?
*Why does the Caprica resistance seemed more concerned about Kara's disappearance than Sue-Shaun's? Did Kara's love interest generated the greater concern?
*Could Commander Adama's evident grief upon viewing the corpse of Galactica-Boomer in the ship's morgue mean that they were personally involved at some point? Or, perhaps, did the level of humanity that this Boomer showed cause Adama to mourn her loss as he would a daughter or daughter-figure such as Kara? In any case, given her role in Adama's assassination attempt, this is strange and strong behavior.
*Would any viable embryos harvested by the Cylons be accelerated into mature adults or placed ''in vitro'' into a host? Would the host be humano-Cylon or human?
**Caprica-Boomer seemed to imply that no viable hybrid embryos had ever been produced by the Farms, at least up until this point. Then again, she said that they "weren't very successful", which is somewhat vague.

== Analysis ==

== Notes ==
*This episode's opening credits marks the return of the "blipvert" effect used in the first season episodes, which Ron D. Moore uses as an homage to "Space: 1999".
*As of the opening credits, the fleet population is now 47,857, a net loss of 4 since "[[Resistance]]". This reflects the deaths of four civillians on board the [[Gideon]] in that episode, but apparently not that of Boomer. Was she removed from the count immediately after her assassination attempt?
*According to [[Gaeta]], this episode takes place "a week" after Apollo docked at [[Cloud Nine]] in the last episode, although apparently Adama hasn't been well enough to resume command until very recently.
*24 ships, almost a third of the fleet, have left with Roslin for Kobol.
**This would mean the total fleet consisted of over 72 ships. In the [[Mini-Series]], there are only about 40 FTL-capable ships able to rendezvous with Galactica at Ragnar Anchorage.
*Cally has been put in the brig for 30 days for discharging a firearm without permission. Tyrol actually tried to help get her out immediately by telling Adama that she was traumatized by events on Kobol and not in her right mind. Adama agrees to be lenient and give Cally the short sentance, and Tyrol is grateful.
*Galactica-Boomer's body is now in the morgue.
*Number Six mentioned that "procreation is one of God's commandments" in the first episode, "[[33]]".
*The [[Humano-Cylon|Humano-Cylons]] cannot reproduce biologically with each other (they can produce more copies of the existing models, but a male and female Cylons cannot reproduce with each other). However, according to the Cylon religion it is a commandment of God that they procreate; "be fruitful and multiply". Therefore, the Cylons began a project to create a hybrid offspring of Humano-Cylons and Humans (who can easily reproduce biologically), basically trying any way they could to find some way to procreate their new race. To this end, the Cylons have created a large number of "[[Farms]]": breeding centers filled with captured Human women hooked up to medical equipment, being used as living incubators (a "baby factory"), which basically amounts to medically raping hundreds if not thousands of women. However, it seems that up to this point, the Farms have not been able to successfully produce any hybrid offspring. Trying to understand their failure, the Cylons developed a new theory: the element they were missing was love, and perhaps a hybrid baby conceived in love would succeed. This was the reason why [[Helo]] was set up by the Cylons into being trapped in a position where he would fall in love with the copy of [[Sharon Valerii|Sharon "Boomer" Valerii]] and have sex with her. The Caprica-Boomer's unborn child is indeed unique: it is the first Human/Cylon hybrid conceived in love, and as a result appears to be the first and only successful hybrid; it seems that no other embryo survived nearly as long as it already has (it is now about five weeks old, since it's conception in "[[Six Degrees of Separation]]").
*The Galactica-Boomer was serving aboard the Galactica for two years, which means the Cylons had begun infiltrating Colonial society from at least that long ago. This matches the length of time of Six's affair with Baltar while on Caprica.
*Starbuck was the victim of frequent physical abuse as a child; she's suffered many bone fractures in childhood, and all of her fingers have been broken at some point.
*It has clearly been established that there are at least 5 remaining Raptors aboard the Galactica. Lt. Gaeta mentions that 5 Raptors were standing by to perform a mission. There might be more that they simply didn't want to use, or there might be more that are currently down for repairs.
*Caprica-Boomer is aware of [[Leoben Conoy]]'s interrogation by Starbuck in "[[Flesh and Bone]]", even of specific things he said during it.
*This episode introduces the 5th confirmed Humano-Cylon, [[Simon]].

*''Cylons discussion the surgical testing they are performing on Starbuck'':
:<b>Simon:</b>...pending lab test results on [sample for] ovaries, complete removal will proceed tomorrow. They've lab tested positive and subject will be removed to processing facility for final disposition.
:<b>Number Six:</b> Is that regret I hear in your voice, Simon?
:<b>Simon:</b> If it is, it certainly is none of your concern.

*''Explanation of the Human/Cylon hybrid project:''
:<b>Boomer:</b> They were conducting research, into Human/Cylon breeding programs.
:<b>Starbuck:</b>: Human/Cylon?
:<b>Helo:</b>: 'Call them "Farms"...your gunshot wound looks fine...
:<b>Starbuck:</b>: So "Farms", that's great...what were they going to do, 'knock me up with some Cylon kid?
:<b>Boomer:</b> They were going to try to. We haven't been very successful so far.
:<b>Anders:</b> Supposedly they can't reproduce...you know, ''biologically'', so they've been trying every which-way to produce offspring.
:<b>Starbuck:</b> Why?
:<b>Boomer:</b> Procreation. It's one of God's commandments; "be fruitful". We can't fulfill it, we've tried. So we decided--
:<b>Starbuck:</b> To rape human women?!
:<b>Boomer:</b> You know, if you agreed to bear children it would be voluntary, maybe even set you up with someone you like.
:<b>Starbuck:</b> And you two kids? [''Helo and Caprica-Boomer'']
:<b>Boomer:</b> We're different.
:<b>Starbuck:</b> What the frak is that supposed to mean?
:<b>Helo:</b> They have this theory; maybe the one thing they were missing was '''love'''. So Sharon and I...were set up...
:<b>Starbuck:</b> To fall in love?! They didn't ask [[Sue-Shaun]] if she wanted to fall in love, alright! They put a tube in her, and they hooked her up to a machine!
:<b>Boomer:</b> They know who you are, Kara. You're special. Leoben told you that. You have a destiny.
:<b>Helo:</b> [''pointing out the other scar on Starbuck's lower abdomen''] Starbuck what's the second scar?
:<b>Starbuck:</b> I don't know. I don't think I want to know now. You know?
:<b>Boomer:</b> No.
:<b>Anders:</b> Alright, how many women do they have in these "Farms"?
:<b>Boomer:</b> Hundreds, maybe thousands. I don't know, I haven't accessed that data.

*''Adama wonders aloud about the nature of Cylons and humans''
:'''Tyrol:''' I don't believe she [Cally] was in her right mind when she shot Boomer--
:'''Adama:''' Did you love her, Chief?
:'''Tyrol:''' 'Scuse me?
:'''Adama:''' Boomer. Did you love her?
:'''Tyrol:''' Thought I did.
:'''Adama:''' Well, when you think you love somebody, you love them. That's what love is. Thoughts... She was a Cylon. A machine! Is that what Boomer was, a machine? A thing?
:'''Tyrol:''' That's what she turned out to be.
:'''Adama:''' She was more than that to us. She was more than that to me. She was a vital, living person aboard my ship for almost two years! She couldn't have been just a machine. Could you love a machine?
:'''Tyrol:''' No, sir. Guess I couldn't have.
: '''Adama'''Cally discharged a firearm without permission, endangering life of her fellow shipmate. 30 days in the brig. Dismissed.
:'''Adama:''' You'll see her again, Chief.
:'''Tyrol:''' Excuse me?

== Overview ==
: ''[[Kara Thrace]] is shot and wakes up in a remote hospital facility on [[Caprica]], and learns that her friendly doctor has his own plans for her future.''

== Summary ==

=== On Caprica ===

*Having reached a base where some survivors of the [[Cylon]] attack on the planet have been hiding out, [[Starbuck]], [[Helo]], and two other civilians who are fighting the Cylons ([[Anders]] and [[Sue-Shaun]], who were already introduced in the last episode) devise a plan to escape from [[Caprica]], by hijacking one of the Cylon's heavy raider aircraft, located at a airstrip nearby
*Starbuck informs the other members of the team that she and Helo will fit as many survivors as possible onto the craft, and when they fly back to the [[Galactica]], they will dispatch a rescue mission to pick up the rest of them
*As the team is about to assault the airstrip, they are shot at, and Starbuck suffers a gunshot wound that grazes off her head and gets lodged in her stomach, which causes her to go into unconsiousness
*[[Kara]] wakes up in a hospital, and is being attended to by a doctor named [[Simon]], who tells her he managed to remove the bullet that was in her chest, and that he tells her that she was the only person brought into the hospital
*[[Starbuck]] spends the next few days conversing with Simon, who tells her that women who can bear children are a rare thing now that the [[Cylons]] destroyed most of Caprica, and that she should consider giving birth to a child
*When Kara wakes up the next day, she discovers a large scar across her abdomen, and although Simon tells her the scar was a result of an operation he did to stop some bleeding, Kara doesn't believe him
*Kara fakes being unconsious, and when Simon leaves, Kara follows him, and she discovers that he is having a conversation with a copy of [[Number Six]], and that he intends to remove her ovaries tomorrow.
*[[Starbuck]] escapes from the hospital, being pursued by Cylon Centurions and the Number Six model, but she is soon rescued by [[Helo]] and the rest of the resistance, who take her back to their encampment
*Starbuck relates her experiences in the hospital to the rest of the resistance members, and [[Sharon Valerii]] then goes on to explain that the [[Cylons]] have a genetic flaw which does not allow them to reproduce biologically, and they tried to implant women with human/Cylon embryos, but when that failed, they captured thousands of women, and are holding them in "farms", where they breed new models
*Helo, Sharon, and Starbuck leave Caprica on a [[Heavy Raider]] stolen by Sharon. Starbuck promises that she will one day return to rescue the Resistance including [[Anders]]. In the mean time Anders says he will try to destroy as many farms as he can.

== Questions ==
*Caprica-Boomer says that she knows that [[Leoben Conoy]] told Kara she was special during his interrogation aboard the ''Galactica''; how could she have known this? How do the Cylon agents communicate to each other?
*Will we see Simon again?
**Is one of the eight Cylon agents hiding in the fleet another Simon model?
Look again. He's sitting on the right, while it's well-established (see eg. Kobol's last gleaming pt. 1) that the pilot's seat is on the left (both as seen from the front).
: WouterCoene is correct. Lee is sitting in the passenger seat, which is the seat on the port side of the Raptor. (Or the "front", were we to look into the Raptor from its front.) -- [[User:Joe.Beaudoin|Joe Beaudoin]] 22:57, 30 Jul 2005 (EDT)

:: But look to the mini-series when Sharon leave Helo! Sharon seats on that right seat where Lee is sitting in this episode. Well, then, if pilot seat is the Left one (when looking from the front), how could Sharon leave Caprica in mini-series? or the young boy was flying that raptor? :-) -- Lordhp <lordhp (at) centrum (dot) cz> - 1.7.2005 18:20 GMT+1

::: Actually, having reviewed the footage from both the mini and [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]], the cockpit controls on the port side of the raptor are also pilot controls. (See the part where Crashdown tries to contorl the descent of [[Raptor 1]] in the fourth or fifth act.) However, I believe that the primary controls seem to be seated at the starboard side. (as evidenced throughout the season) -- [[User:Joe.Beaudoin|Joe Beaudoin]] 16:00, 1 Aug 2005 (EDT)

:::: The raptor layout seems similar to that of many modern helicopters and commercial airliners. There are flight controls on both sides of the cockpit. In the mini-series and in most subsequent episodes, the pilot of the raptor is seen on the, from the pilots view, right side of the cockpit. A notable exception to this was from the mini-series. Boomer is seen leaving Caprica piloting from the left side. This seems to be for dramatic license. Boomer's position in the cockpit was necessary to allow her parting look with Helo. These controls were used again in [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]] when the pilot of Raptor Baltar and Tyrol were riding in was killed. Crashdown took control of the ship and piloted it from the left seat.

::::As for the specifics of whether or not Lee Adama is capable of piloting a raptor, I suspect it's likely even though it has not yet been shown. Stepping away from the 'mechanics' of flying, it is likely out of convenience that we'll see pilots like Starbuck, Apollo and possibly even Helo pilot a Raptor quite simply because of the precedent from the original series. Apollo and his fellows were seen piloting shuttles on numerous occasions with the [[The Young Lords]] being an example. Perhaps a more relevant example would be Commander Adama's piloting of a Raptor in [[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]] when he retrieves Ellen Tigh and brings her to the Galactica. There has been very little portrayed regarding Adama's duties prior to commanding the Galactica so its possible he learned another way. We do know that he was a Viper pilot and would've received similar training to Apollo's. It seems likely that this training would allow for the piloting of a raptor.--[[User:Feldspar|Feldspar]] 18:41, 3 Aug 2005 (EDT)
== Disassembling what? Large unidentified Cylon craft ==

''After holding a funeral for Socinus and Tarn, the ground crew stranded on Kobol discover that the Cylons are cannibalizing the parts of the downed Raptor craft, and are using the parts to build an anti-aircraft battery.''

That is definitely not a Raptor. You can see on the front right portion a Cylon brain cockpit, in a similar position where it would be on a [[Heavy Raider]]. However I don't remember a Heavy Raider having those pointy pylon things up front. From the relative size of the Centurion walking next to it, this ship could be even bigger than a Heavy Raider. My guess it is those large unidentified Cylon craft seen outside the Basestar in KLG2 when Boomer's Raptor arrives. If you watch it frame by frame, you can vaguely see those pointy protrusions up front. Except for those two pointy things it kind of looks like a flying Washington Monument, with two blue flame engines burning in the back.

The draidus dish was salvaged from the nose cone of the Rapror, Tyrol speculated as much when he saw the dish. The ship shown need not be the raptor. Clearly the cylons had to get to the planet somehow after the base start exploded (I doubt even a Centurion is resilient enough to do a re-entry). If their ship was only for transport (a light raider or cargo ship) and didn't have ship to ship missiles canabalizing the raptor makes sense. Remember, the raptor also crashed in a relatively open area and the missile stands were in the forest, so the Centurions landed at the downed raptor, riped off the interesting stuff, flew into the forest, and begam assembly. --[[User:Shemnon|Shemnon]] 16:01, 1 Aug 2005 (EDT)

I highly doubt missiles containing volatile fuel and an explosive warhead would survive the Raptor fire and explosion that we saw during KLG2. I give reasons in [[Unidentified Cylon Craft]] why the ship seen on the planet is likely to be the one dismantled, and different from a [[Heavy Raider]]. We may never know the "truth" unless RDM says something in the forthcoming podcast or season 2 DVD. =(
== Delusion or delirium? ==

I notice Roslin is said to have delusion and/or delirium. I haven't seen the episode, but I wonder whether she actually experienced both states. For comparison, delusion refers to a false belief [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delusion] (often stubbornly held despite evidence to the contrary, e.g. "Earth is flat"), whereas delirium is a disturbance in consciousness, which tends to fluctuate over time [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delirium]. The latter is often seen among elderly hospitalized patients. An illusion, on the other hand, is a misinterpretation of actual sensory inputs. [[User:67.80.186.103|67.80.186.103]] 20:47, 3 Aug 2005 (EDT)
:Based on your comments, I'm inclined to conclude Roslin was delirious due to the medication and withdrawal. It seems Chamalla has a heightened and several unknown effects in use or withdrawal. [[User:Spencerian|Spencerian]] 12:39, 4 Aug 2005 (EDT)

Near the end of [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]] this large Cylon craft is seen in orbit near the Basestar when Boomer's raptor approaches. BSG Wiki allows source-derived POV because of what it is; we are not Wikipedia. If you don't believe what is added there, add a counterpoint, but don't delete my comments again. : While I won't go as so far as to say this is an act of vandalism, I concur with this. Interpretations are permitted within reasonable bounds and fans are encouraged to analyze and come to their own assumptions. All POVs, within reason, are encouraged, as so long as each POV is treated equally and fairly. ''Now'', as for the vandalism piece, if this happens multiple times without justification, then it ''is'' considered vandalism and will be treated with a ban of 24 to 48 hours. (All depending on the evidence at hand, of course.) I have yet to instate a rule similar to Wikipedia's [[Wikipedia:3RR|3 Revert Rule]], but I will institue one should it become necessary -- I just hope it ''never'', ''ever'' comes to that. == Delusion or delirium? ==

The craft has a tapered cockpit in front with two pointy pylons on each side, and a large slender body behind it. At the rear are two blue flame colored sublight engines. The shape at a distance makes it look like a flying Washington Monument.

On Kobol during [[Fragged]], the front of the Cylon ship appears to be bigger than the [[Cylon Heavy Raider]] seen during [[Colonial Day]] by comparison of the size of the [[Centurion]] walking in front. The front right portion a has a Cylon brain cockpit, in a similar position where it would be on a Heavy Raider. The pointy pylons in front look to be rounded rather than knife shaped like the Heavy Raider. This ship is likely to be the same unidentified ship seen in orbit above Kobol before the Basetar was destroyed rather than a [[Cylon Heavy Raider]].

== Overview ==

''Colonel Tigh must deal with the Quorum of Twelve and the press over Roslin's removal from the presidency, while Cylon Warriors are preparing to hinder any rescue attempt on Kobol by setting up anti-aircraft batteries.''

== Summary ==

===On the Galactica===

*Doctor [[Cottle]] arrives on the [[Galactica]] from the [[Rising Star]], and informs Colonel Tigh that Commander [[Adama]] is still bleeding internally, and that he will have to operate to stabilize his condition.
*It becomes apparent that the pressures of commanding the Galactica have gotten to Tigh, as he has become more and more dependent on alcohol. He becomes confused, questioning why [[Lee Adama]] is leading a crew to rescue the survivors from [[Kobol]], and causes him to act very rudely to members of the crew.
*After being informed about an arrival on the ship, Tigh goes to meet the [[Quorum of Twelve]], who demand that they be given access to the imprisoned [[Laura Roslin]]. Tigh contends that Adama removed Roslin from power, believing she was a threat to the stability of the fleet, and denies accusations by the Quorum members that he will try to initiate martial law upon the fleet.
*Meanwhile, Roslin is starting to experience delusions while being held in the Galactica's brig, which prompts [[Billy]] to use [[Venner|Corporal Venner]], a heavily religious follower of the [[Pythia|Pythian]] prophecies, to obtain [[Kamala]] extract for Roslin.
*[[Ellen Tigh]] visits Roslin in the brig, and realizes Laura is going crazy. She states that Saul should allow the Quorum members access to the imprisoned President, as it will prove that she was a threat to the stability of the government.
*The Quorum members visit, and, having taken the Kamala, Roslin makes a statement to the members, stating that the military coup has failed, and that she is still retaining the position of President. She then goes on to tell the members that she is dying from terminal breast cancer, and the Quorum members realize that she is the dying leader who will lead the fleet to [[Earth]]. Realizing he has severely underestimated Roslin, Tigh herds the Quorum members out of the brig.
*Saul then appears before the press, and states that because of the attempted coup against the military, he is declaring martial law over the fleet, which throws the room into chaos.

===On Kobol===

*After holding a funeral for [[Socinus]] and [[Tarn]], the ground crew stranded on Kobol discover that the [[Cylons]] are cannibalizing parts from their own [[Unidentified Cylon Craft]] to build an anti-aircraft battery.
*[[Crashdown]] deduces that the Cylon centurions won't look for them, but will instead use the battery to shoot down any aircraft that come looking for the survivors.
*Even though [[Tyrol]] and [[Baltar]] both object, Crashdown decides that they will have to take out the anti-aircraft battery if they want to get rescued, even though more than half the group aren't proficient in the use of firearms.
*In a hallucination, [[Six]] tells Baltar that one of the crew will turn against the others, and that it is Baltar's duty to accept his role as the father of the new race of human-Cylon hybrids.
*When the crew ready their assault on the battery, they discover that more Cylons have reinforced the security around the battery, which leads Tyrol to believe the makeshift [[DRADIS]] dish that the Cylons are suing to guide the missiles will be left unprotected. In spite of this, Crashdown tells them he is in charge and that they will proceed with the plan.
*During this time, Lee Adama and a compliment of medical personnel and marines have piloted 2 Raptors to the planet's surface.
*When [[Cally]] objects to being a diversion for the attack, Crashdown pulls a gun on her and threatens to shoot her unless she follows her orders. Tyrol pulls his gun on Crashdown, but when it looks like Crashdown will fire, he is shot in the back by Baltar.
*This action reveals their position to the Cylons, who start chasing after them through the forest. The team makes their way to the DRADIS dish, during which time [[Selix]] is shot in the leg, and Tyrol is shot in the arm, but he manages to use a grenade launcher to take out the dish. Although they are outmanned, Tyrol stands up and opens fire on the advancing Cylons, but the Raptors in the air use their missiles to destroy the Cylons.
*When the rescued crew is leaving Kobol, Six tells Baltar that he is fulfilling his role in the prophecy, and that she will act as his conscience.

== Questions ==
*What did [[Number Six]] mean when she said that people that die on [[Kobol]] simply die, and that "God" has abandoned Kobol?
*Will [[Tyrol]], [[Cally]], or [[Selix]] ever reveal the truth about Crashdown's fate? Or perhaps use the threat of doing so as leverage against Baltar, to force him to perform a favor later?
*Why was it necessary to cannibalize [[Raptor 305]] for parts? Galactica had four raptors in good condition during [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]], and none were seen to be deployed during the fracas in [[Scattered]].
*Could [[Ellen Tigh]]'s attempts to manipulate the downfall of President Roslin be further proof that she's really a Cylon sent to spread chaos in the Fleet?
*Why was the shuttle bearing the Quorum delegates en route from the [[Zephyr]], rather than [[Cloud 9]]?
*Who was the one who betrayed the others? Cally, for her refusal to carry out orders? Crashdown, for turning his gun on one of his own? Baltar, for killing the group's leader? Or even Tyrol, for his failure to defend Cally by killing Crashdown before the count of "three"? Maybe that's a stretch.
*Baltar appears bloodied and disheveled in his daydream, as he is in reality, instead of nattily well-dressed as he's always been before. Is he losing his mind?

== Analysis ==

== Notes ==
*As of the opening credits, the fleet population is now 47,862, reflecting a casualty count of 12 during the Cylon boarding action in the previous episode. This seems barely sufficient to include the bodies seen on screen, let alone the number of casualties implied in [[Valley of Darkness]], but perhaps a number of the casualties haven't had time to expire yet. At the end of the episode, factoring in Crashdown's death, the total stands at 47,861.
*[[Crashdown]] dies in this episode, shot by Baltar because he was about to shoot Cally.
*"Frag" is American military slang for intentionally killing a superior officer of your own force in the field. Popularized during Vietnam, when discipline lagged and a few officers got grenades in their bunkers or caught "friendly fire" during a skirmish.
*[[Gemenon]] is the most fundamentalist of the [[Twelve Colonies]], interpreting the [[Sacred Scrolls]] very literally. It appears that many Gemenons believe so strongly in the [[Pythia]]'s prophesy that they will almost automatically side with President Roslin.
*[[Roslin, Laura|President Roslin]] has revealed to the entire [[Quorum of Twelve]], as well as [[Tigh, Saul|Colonel Tigh]], that she is dying of breast cancer, and presumably it is now fully public knowledge.
*[[Cally]] only joined the Colonial Fleet as a way to pay her way through dental school.
*First episode without an appearance by [[Starbuck]].
*First episode without scenes on [[Caprica]].
*First episode since the miniseries without an appearance by Helo, even though Tahmoh Penikett is still credited in the opening credits.
*First episode in which Tigh calls [[Galactica]] "my ship."
*The discussion between Tigh and Billy firmly establishes that Billy was ''not'' arrested.
*Raptors are capable of carrying missles.

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

* ''In the Galactica's brig:''
*:<b>Laura Roslin:</b> (to the Quorum of Twelve) Thank you all for coming. I have a statement I would like to make. The attempted military coup against the lawful government of the Colonies is illegal, ill-advised, and clearly doomed to failure. I have not resigned the Presidency, and I will fight this action with everything at my command.
*:<b>Colonel Tigh:</b> She's crazy. She's nuts! She thinks she's a prophet or some such nonsense. Go ahead and ask her, she'll tell you. Just listen to her! What was it, the...Arrow Of Apollo will open the Tomb of...Artemis, or some such nonsense.
*:<b>Laura Roslin:</b> Everything I have done is consistent and logical. We have found Kobol, we have found the City of the Gods, and when we retrieve the Arrow, we will open the tomb of <b>Athena</b>, and we will find the road to Earth.

* ''In an announcement to a group of journalists on the Galactica''
*:<b>Colonel Tigh:</b> The events which took place aboard Colonial One are unfortunate. Laura Roslin's actions in supporting mutiny and sedition among the military could not be tolerated. Therefore, Commander Adama was left with no choice other than to remove her from office. Ms. Roslin is now resting comfortably aboard this ship, where she will remain until such time as the Commander deems otherwise. As it appears obvious that the government cannot function under the current circumstances, I have decided to dissolve the Quorum of Twelve, and as of this moment, I have declared martial law.

* ''In the Galactica's sickbay''
*:<b>Colonel Tigh:</b> (talking about Commander Adama) Is he going to make it?
*:<b>Doctor Cottle:</b> How should I know? I'm not a psychic. Now get the hell out of here.

* ''After Baltar shoots Crashdown on Kobol''
*:<b>Number Six:</b> (to Baltar) You're a man now.

* ''Desperate last stand against Cylons''
*:<b>Tyrol:</b> Stay there!
*:<b>Balltar:</b> Chief! Chief!
*:<b>Tyrol:</b> Aah! Aah! Aaaaaaah! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
== Notes ==
*First episode without an appearance by Helo, even though Tahmoh Penikett is still credited in the opening credits.
*First episode in which Tigh calls [[Galactica]] "my ship."
*The discussion between Tigh and Billy firmly establishes that Billy was ''not'' arrested.
*Raptors are capable of carrying missles.

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

* ''In the Galactica's brig:''

* ''In the Galactica's sickbay''

Look again. He's sitting on the right, while it's well-established (see eg. Kobol's last gleaming pt. 1) that the pilot's seat is on the left (both as seen from the front).
[[User:WouterCoene|WouterCoene]] 04:07, 31 Jul 2005 (CEST)
: WouterCoene is correct. Lee is sitting in the passenger seat, which is the seat on the port side of the Raptor. (Or the "front", were we to look into the Raptor from its front.) -- [[User:Joe.Beaudoin|Joe Beaudoin]] 22:57, 30 Jul 2005 (EDT)

:''"So much for all the hype about Alonzo's acting convincing Ron Moore to "resurrect" Socinus from the Pilot Movie, only to kill him off at the start of the 2nd season. ----
Shouldn't season openers be somewhat interesting? Like, say, spend for that 5 minutes TOTAL on every single major plot point left open from the previous season?
This felt like a filler episode to me. Don't filler episodes usually wait till mid season or something?
== Questionable Questions ==
We saw Captain Kelly in the mini-series, but yeah, not much of anywhere else. Still, he was around before. Gaius also did Boomer's test before he ever began testing on a large scale. I doubt he would've released his info based on his behavior in Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down. Also, I just think Tigh hate Baltar for being flirtatious with his wife in that same episode. All speculation...but y'know...makes sense stuff. Oh yes, and in the podcast, RDM says that they didn't check out the ship wreckage in the flight pod because they were too busy and the flight pod was unused. He also says that they speculated that the ship was destroye don impact because there was no fire. -- [[User:yenguyen|YeNguyen]] 21:17, 16 July 2005 (EST)
:I think the reason Kelly wasn't seen in season 1 was due to the fact that by the time they decided to have a season 1, the actor was unavailable at the time.[[User:Kuralyov|Kuralyov]] 22:18, 16 Jul 2005 (EDT)
:: Well, realistically, we know that... but obviously, in the BSG universe, there's got to be a reason why we haven't seen him before. Also, quick question, did we actually ''see'' Cylons firing from behind the foliage? -- [[User:Joe.Beaudoin|Joe Beaudoin]] 23:14, 16 Jul 2005 (EDT)
:: No we don't. All they saw was muzzle flash, but the audience can recognize the sound of the Centurions' arm cannons. Though, that could be turned against us. Perfect example of the use of non-dramatic irony in this show that makes it so good. -- [[User:yenguyen|YeNguyen]] 0:31, 17 July 2005 (EST)
=== The Significance of "3" ===
As for the "three" question, you may want to see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_%28number%29#In_human_culture . I'm thinking that it has something to do with the holy trinity... (or maybe a family unit, such as one created by Helo and Valerii -- or Baltar and Six). -- [[User:Joe.Beaudoin|Joe Beaudoin]] 23:14, 16 Jul 2005 (EDT)

: RDM just said that the door with the "3" on it was just a motif for that ep. We never saw what was behind it until the final act and seeing Tigh about to kill himself. The door is the one that leads into his quarters and where his death was prevented by Adam's actions. -- [[User:yenguyen|YeNguyen]] 0:33, 17 July 2005 (EST)

== Medic guest star? ==

RDM mentioned on the podcast that the medic who performed surgery on Commander Adama in this episode was portrayed by Jamie Bamber's wife. AFAIK she is not mentioned under Guest Stars nor anywhere else on this page. Anyone know what her name is? Should we add some mention here?
At the time of the [[Cylon Attack]] on the [[Colonies]], he was attached to [[Deck Crew 5]], and was responsible for [[Viper]] and [[Raptor]] maintenance. ([[Mini-Series]])

After the events at the beginning of [[Litmus]], Socinus was charged with "conspiracy and collusion with a cylon agent" and arrested by [[Sergeant Hadrian|Master-At-Arms Sergeant Hadrian]]. In reality, Socinus had not conspired with a Cylon Agent, but had lied about leaving the hatch combing to causeway C aboard Galactica open to hide the relationship of Tyrol and [[Sharon Valerii]]. (During the time in question, the two were meeting for an intimate moment.) Valerii had entered through that hatch combing, leaving it open so a copy of [[Aaron Doral]] could gain access to explosives, which he then detonated prematurely in C Causeway (as opposed to his intended target, [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]]'s Lab on the same level).

[[William Adama|Commander Adama]] however had his doubts about Socinus' actions (being aware of Tyrol and Valerii's relationship). Tyrol eventually confessed to Adama that he was with Valerii at the time of the bombing, with the deck gang covering for him. This did not result in Socinus' release, as he did lie before the tribunal.

Socinus was released on parole for the scout mission to [[Kobol]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Pt. I]]) by request of Tyrol due to the extreme short-handedness of experienced crew. He subsequently became stranded on Kobol with the rest of the survivors of [[Raptor 1]].

He sustained critical injuries including severe smoke inhalation during the crash. He was treated with [[serisone]] to prevent fluid from building up in his lungs. Despite the efforts of [[Tarn]], [[Cally]] and [[Galen Tyrol]], ([[Scattered]]) to acquire another medkit from the crashsite to help keep him alive, he was in the end euthanized by [[morpha]] overdose when they realized that he was too severely injured to realistically think they could save him from a slow and agonizing death. == Overview ==

Following the end of the [[Cylon War]], the Cylons withdrew from Colonial space to a planet of their own. For some 40 years, nothing was heard of them and apparently no attempt was made by the Colonials to keep an eye on them. The only contact expected between the two was at annual meetings at [[Armistice Station]]. However, while the Colonials sent a repeseentative to the station every year, the Cylons did not ([[Mini-Series]]).

During their forty years of isolation, the Cylons developed or evolved a humanoid form that very closely mimics Human form, down to the cellular level.

Humano-Cylons have the capacity to emulate many of the same acts that humans do, including sex acts, as demonstrated by Number 6 model. ([[Mini-Series]])

Humano-Cylons can also be programmed to believe that they are human.

Like other [[Cylons]], this model utilizes a synthetic, silicon brain that is susceptible to damage from certain classes of radiation. Upon the death of the "body," these models of Cylon transfer consciousness into another copy of itself, though this is limited by distance and perhaps signal integrity (hindered by interference). ([[Mini-Series]], [[Flesh and Bone]])

Some or all Cylon "female" models may have the capacity to bear children seeded by Human males. ([[33]], [[Flesh and Bone]], [[Hand of God]]. [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]).

== Known Humano-Cylon Models ==

There are twelve models of Cylon ([[Mini-Series]])[[#Note|'''**''']]. Four have so far been identified as humano-Cylons.

=== Sharon "Boomer" Valerii ===

This model has shown naiveté in many matters. She is apparently not as religious as other Cylon models, but has demonstrated that she can love, unlike the [[Number Six]] model, and is capable of being impregnated by a human ([[Six Degrees of Separation]], [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]). She may be "defective", as her two personalities (Cylon and Human-programmed), have clashed multiple times ([[Water]]).

Ref: [[Valerii, Sharon]]

=== Number Six / Shelly Godfrey ===

This model utilizes the human need / desire for sexual relations to her advantage. She is religious, believing in a monotheistic deity. She desires to know what it is to be alive.

Typically she is the alpha female, as demonstrated on multiple occasions. ([[Mini-Series]], [[33]], [[Water]], [[Six Degrees of Separation]]).

Ref: [[Number Six]]

=== Aaron Doral ===

This model attempts to sow the seeds of discontent and endeavors to undermine authority that threatens his objectives. ([[Mini-Series]]) Doral-model tackles more of the behind-the-scenes issues, but at times takes it upon himself to execute certain tasks, such as becoming a suicide bomber. ([[Litmus]])

Ref: [[Doral, Aaron]]

=== Leoben Conoy ===

This model has shown to be religiously oriented, using dogma and intermixing truth with falsehoods. It was first discovered on [[Ragnar Station]], claiming to be a scavenger / arms dealer. ([[Mini-Series]])

He can be likened to the serpent of the [[Wikipedia:Genesis|Genesis]] tale in the Earth [[Wikipedia: Christian Bible|Christian Bible]], taunting people with knowledge then watching as the negative consequences come into devastating fruition.

Ref: [[Conoy, Leoben]]

=== Ellen Tigh? ===
[[Ellen Tigh]] may or may not be a Cylon, but this has not been confirmed.

==Note==
It is in many places ambiguous whether the total of 12 Cylon models applies to humano-Cylons or Cylons in general. However, a scene near the end of the miniseries concludes the matter when Commander [[Adama]] finds a note left in his quarters that reads, simply, "There are only 12 Cylon models".
I doubt he was using explosive rounds but they did make huge holes in the Centurions anyway.

He was treated with [[serazone]] to prevent fluid from building up in his lungs. Despite the efforts of [[Tarn]], [[Cally]] and [[Galen Tyrol]], ([[Scattered]]) to acquire another medkit from the crashsite to help keep him alive, he was in the end euthanized by [[morpha]] overdose when they realized that they acknowledged that he was too severely injured to realistically think they could save him. : <i>This article refers to the [[Episode Guide|episode]] "Colonial Day". For the holiday itself, see [[Colonial Day (holiday)]].</i>

== Overview ==

: <i>Colonial Day is due, and [[Roslin]] is using it to institute an interim [[Quorum of Twelve]]; then [[Zarek, Tom|Tom Zarek]], duly selected as the representative of [[Sagittaron]], stands for the post of Vice President, a position Roslin is determined he will not hold. </i>

== Summary ==
*[[Colonial Day]] - the anniversary of the signing of the [[Articles of Colonisation]] is due
*[[Roslin, Laura|Roslin]] has chosen it to unveil a new [[Quorum of Twelve]]
*However, a crisis erupts when terrorist/criminal [[Zarek, Tom|Tom Zarek]] is selected to represent [[Sagittaron]] – and he accepts
*As the Quorum is convened, Zarek increases the crisis by insisting that the vacant post of Vice President is filled, in case anything should happen to Roslin – a move that is surprisingly seconded by [[Baltar, Gaius|Gaius Baltar]] – Tom Zarek is thereupon nominated as a vice presidential candidate
*Roslin responds by pushing [[Gray, Wallace|Wallace Gray]], her policy-maker into standing as an alternative candidate
*Manipulating the media, Zarek makes headway in his desire to secure the position as Vice President, with Roslin hampered by what may be the makings of an attempt on her life – possibly orchestrated by Zarek
*Surprisingly, it is Gaius Baltar who comes to her aid, giving an eloquent speech through the media that reminds the people of Roslin’s qualities – and Zarek’s background. As a result, Roslin has Gray relinquish his position as her nominee in favour of Baltar
*Baltar wins the nomination – through Roslin’s final intervention in an official capacity – but Zarek makes it clear matters are far from over: there is still the presidential elections due in 6 months.

=== On Caprica: ===
*[[Agathon, Karl C.|Helo]] and [[Valerii, Sharon#Caprica Valerii|Valerii]] have reached [[Delphi]]
*Helo considers the humano-Cylons to be human "replicants", created by the Cylons using human DNA.
*Valerii uses this idea as a means of testing his possible feelings towards her, should she reveal her true identity
*Later, as they try to enter the Cylon base at Delphi, Helo sees another Valerii, and realises the truth – which sets him on the run from the base – and Valerii herself
== Questions ==

*Just how much freedom of movement within the fleet have Zarek’s people gained since the events of [[Bastille Day]]?
*Will Zarek be able to use this apparent freedom to rally support for the forthcoming elections?
*Was Zarek really behind the suspected attempt on Roslin’s life?
**If she had been assassinated before he secured the position of Vice President, he would have a prime suspect. Similarly, had she been assassinated after secured the vice presidency, he would still have been a prime suspect
**As the Vice President, he would have every opportunity to build a track record as an effective politician, and thus stand as a highly competent alternative to Roslin in the elections
*How does the Quorum of Twelve relate to the Office of the President? Does it function in a similar manner to the US Congress?
*Who killed Valance?

== Analysis ==

This is the most poorly-conceived and executed episode in BSG's first season. While it does make valid points about the nature and structure of Colonial society within the fleet (or at least [[Zarek, Tom|Tom Zarek]] makes them <i>very</i> briefly), outside of the [[Helo]]/[[Valerii]] situation on [[Caprica]], the storyline here is ultimately transparent and weak.

Specifically:

*There has been no real sight nor sound of the Cloud Nine (admittedly a wonderfully-ironic name) in the fleet until now - and this is being passed off as being because she has been "under repair".
*"[[Wallace Gray]]" is allegedly the power behind Roslin's throne, setting her agenda and policies, overseeing the distribution of food and medical supplies - essentially performing the role of her Chief of Staff / right-hand-man yet never once has he been previously mentioned or seen! Wallace Gray is so clearly a plot tool - and a badly-handled one at that: first he doesn't want the VP nomination, but accepts because Roslin needs him; then when asked to step down, he comes off in an embittered huff (presumably never to be seen again)
*Zarek's challenge for the position of Veep is an obvious construction to lay the path for Gaius Baltar to become the Vice President
**It is surprising that, after her somewhat vicious words to him in [[Six Degrees of Separation]], [[Roslin]] can face off with [[Baltar]] without so much as an apology for past actions - it has already been established ([[Secrets and Lies]]) that since that event she has barely spoken to him - and it hardly seems likely she'd use their time together in the ''Galactica's'' [[Situation Room]] to make her apologies / overtures of friendship ([[The Hand of God]])
**It is equally surprising that Baltar's ego doesn't offer greater resistance to her request. True, she is to a degree pandering to his desire to be back in the limelight - but given his nature, such an open "forgive and forget" doesn't entirely sit with his nature
*Baltar's ascendancy to the position of Vice President is badly telegraphed - given the synopsis, it is apparent as soon as [[Starbuck]] informs Baltar he has been selected as Caprica's representative in the Quorum
*The intrigue around Valance and his gun, etc., is heavy-handed and comes across either as illogical or as padding for a storyline otherwise short on action
*Security is meant to be heavy aboard the ''[[Cloud Nine]]'' - yet there is ''no'' intervention from any security personnel in what amounts to a brawl in the bar
*Why, when [[Lee Adama]] has expressed concern over just about every aspect of security on the ''Cloud Nine'', is Valance held on the ship in an obviously insecure area (air vent access) - rather than being shipped back to the ''Galactica'', with her brig, for proper interrogation?

Indeed, it is the Valance sub-plot which is most poorly explained / illogical. Assuming Valance ''was'' working for Zarek, and was on the ''Cloud Nine'' to kill Roslin - then his presence undermines Zarek as a clever manipulator. Positioning himself for the roll of Vice President, getting the vote and then having Roslin killed - all at the same event - would inevitably point the finger at Zarek and place him at the centre of a major investigation, under the control of [[William Adama]], which is unlikely to relent until his complicity has been proven. In short, he would be paralysing his ability to act <i>as</i> the President.

As Lee Adama himself states to Starbuck - once Zarek has secured the position of Vice President, he can have Roslin taken care of at any time. Indeed, given the resources now clearly at his disposal (witness the Virgon representative's comment about Zarek's people coming to his aid ahead of Roslin's), there is no reason not to suppose Zarek could arrange for Roslin to meet with an "accident" - perhaps a failure with her shuttle as she moves around the fleet - which would make his complicity very much hard to prove.

That said, there is still some excellent acting in the episode - especially where Baltar is concerned. His interview with the press and particularly his "exclusive" to Playa Palacios in the toilets and both particularly noteworthy examples of [[James Callis|James Callis’]] marvellous handling of the character but this still doesn't compensate for the rest of the time spent on ''Cloud Nine''.

But other than this, the major story arc is a missed opportunity. Presented with a chance to explore the state of Colonial society within the fleet, and address key issues, the producers frittered the opportunity away with shallow intrigue and hollow political manoeuvring. The West Wing this was most certainly not.

The only time the episode truly comes alive is during the all-too-brief scenes on Caprica. These scenes beautifully-encapsulates all we need to know and feel:

*Valerii's attempt to probe Helo about his feelings, using his "replicant" theory
*Valerii is showing more symptoms of being pregnant
*They reach Delphi and the chance of a ship off the planet
*Helo is suddenly - and quite unexpectedly - confronted with Valerii's true nature.

This is excellent stuff, but amounts to less than 10 minutes of screen time, and it unfortunately, isn't enough to lift this episode.

Still, every show tends to misfire once or twice through the course of a season - some managing to do so a lot more frequently. We're fortunate that this is the first - and hopefully only - hiccup in what has otherwise been a highly-successful first season.

== Notes ==
*10 days have passed since the events of [[The Hand of God]]
*The office of the President operates in conjunction with the Quorum of Twelve, a council of representatives of the 12 colonies
*The Articles of Colonisation were signed 52 years ago
**Given the 12 colonies have been inhabited for millenia, the Articles therefore don't directly relate to the settlement of these worlds
**However, given the timeframe (52 years) and its proximity to the first Cylon War, perhaps the original articles were the document that united the 12 colonies to fight the treat of the Cylons, and became the bases for their peaceful co-operation after the war
*Issues surrounding the distribution of food and medical supplies are beginning to cause concern within the fleet
*Despite being "isolated" aboard the ''[[Astral Queen]]'' ([[Bastille Day]]), Zarek has managed to use his time to build up contacts within the fleet and offer assistance to other vessels - so much so that the representative from Virgon is only too willing to throw his support behind Zarek.
*Apparently convicted felons lose their citizenship under Sagittarian penal law but have it automatically reinstated after they finish serving their sentences. This included the right to vote and to stand for election.
*This episode contains the first glimpse of the Cylon [[Heavy Raider]], which is seen landing on Cylon-Occupied [[Caprica]].
== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

<i>Helo and Valerii have arrived in the vicinty of the Cylon base at Delphi, and the talk turns to the two women "helping" the Cylons</i>

<b>Helo:</b> (Standing as Valerii crouches with her back to him, getting some food) I'm trying to make sense out of two women would sell [out] to the Cylons.<br>
<b>Valerii:</b> (keeping her back to him) And?<br>
<b>Helo:</b> I can't fathom why anybody would want to help the toasters...and they just happen to be twins? It's too weird.<br>
<b>Valerii:</b> You got a better explanation?<br>
<b>Helo:</b> Do you think the Cylons could be messing with human DNA? (Valerii reacts, mouth opening as she looks away). Cloning people or something?<br>
<b>Valerii:</b> (gathering herself and looking over her shoulder at Helo) Could be.<br>
<b>Helo:</b> (nodding and crouching) That would explain how they took us by surprise. They had these...replicated humans infiltrating the colonies, laying the groundwork for the surprise attack.<br>
<b>Valerii:</b> (pausing, as if considering this) You know, if they were human clones, that means they're capable of...complex emotions - maybe even love. Maybe they were misguided in the way they were indoctrinated...<br>
<b>Helo:</b> (interrupting) Wait a minute! They're not human! No human could do the things they've done - killed billions of innocent people (Valerii looks away, hurt)<br>
<b>Helo</b>. They've got to be frakking Cylons, just like the rest of them...
* ''"I'm part of the nitpick brigade, but since the Colonies are obviously modelled after the US system of government, right down to the line of succession, are legislative and judicial branches? If so what are they called and will we see any manifestation of either branch take shape as series progresses?"''

:In Episode 11, "Colonial Day" we'll see the reinstatement of the [[Quorum of Twelve]], a political body established in the [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|original series]], which seems to be a cross between a US style Senate and the UN Security Council, where each Colony has a single vote. Presumably there was also a larger representative legislative body and some kind of separate judiciary. There is also a religious body, (unnamed thus far) that acts in some advisory capacity to the government, along the lines of the British House of Lords. Although we haven't dealt with it yet, [[Elosha]] was probably a member of this body. -- {{from_RDM_blog}}
== Overview ==

: ''Chaos is rampant as paramedics try to save [[William Adama|Commander Adama]]'s life after he is shot, and the ''[[Galactica]]'' is separated from the fleet.''

== Summary ==

===On the Galactica===

*After the shooting of [[Adama]], a [[Cylon]] basestar ambushes the Colonial fleet, prompting [[Colonel Tigh]] to execute an emergency [[FTL]] jump procedure for the fleet to rendezvous at another point. When the Galactica jumps, it finds itself stranded from the rest of the fleet, and in the middle of nowhere.
*After being shot by [[Boomer]], [[Adama]] is rushed to the ship's infirmary. Due to the fact that [[Doctor Cottle]] is not onboard the ship, a team of medics must work to stabilize [[Adama]]'s condition.
*[[Lt. Gaeta]] devises a plan to find the co-ordinates of where the fleet jumped: he networks all the onboard computers aboard the [[Galactica]], so it will only take 10 minutes to compute where the fleet is. The only problem is that the [[Galactica]] will have to jump all the way back to [[Kobol]], and hold off the [[Cylons]] until the calculations have finished.
*[[Colonel Tigh]] goes to see the incarcerated [[Boomer]], who insists she knows nothing about what's going on.
*[[Apollo]] is given permission to leave the brig on a provisional basis by [[Colonel Tigh]] and helps lead the squadron that will attack the basestar.
*Once the [[Galactica]] has jumped back to [[Kobol]], the [[Viper]]'s manage to hold off the oncoming waves of [[Cylon Raiders]], although a [[Cylon]] troop carrier is shot down and crashes into the [[Galactica]]'s starboard landing pod.
*[[Gaeta]] manages to calculate where the fleet is, and successfully jumps to meet with them.
*The medics successfully stabilize [[Adama]]'s condition, although he is still in pretty rough shape.
*The crashed [[Cylon]] troop carrier seems completely destroyed as it lays on the [[Galactica]]'s flight deck, but multiple sets of red sensors soon light up from inside, and a group of [[Cylon]] soldiers make their way out of the craft.

===On Caprica===

* In the [[Delphi Museum]], [[Helo]] and [[Kara Thrace]] (Starbuck), after Starbuck attempts to shoot [[Sharon Valerii]], talk about her being pregnant; Helo believes her, while Starbuck refuses to accept the fact.
* After Starbuck's attempt to shoot Valerii, she absconds from the Delphi Museum's grounds in the [[Cylon Raider]]. (Exclaims Starbuck: "Bitch took my ride.")

===On Kobol===

*On [[Kobol]], the survivors of the Raptor crash head into the forest to avoid being seen by the [[Cylons]].
*Because [[Socinus]] is dying, [[Chief Tyrol]], [[Cally]], and a crewmember named [[Tarn]] go back to the crash site to retrieve a medkit. On their way back, the trio are ambushed by [[Cylons]], and only [[Tyrol]] and [[Cally]] manage to escape unharmed.

== Questions ==

* Does Tigh recall that [[Gaius Baltar]] first tested his [[Cylon detector]] on Valerii? Or did he know in the first place?
* Regarding the firewall status display: What is not to say that the Cylons programmed the display, or more accurately the GUI interface for it, to show a false reading on their intrusion progress?
* Interesting connundrum: If [[Kelly]] is the ''Galactica'''s third-in-command, then why haven't we seen (or heard) more from him in the past? It seems to be more or less contrived.
** '''Note:''' Captain Kelly is the supervisor on the ''Galactica''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s flight deck (which was mentioned in the [[mini-series]]).
** He was first seen (possibly his only other appearance) in the mini-series when Adama first appeared in the mini-series. Adama was going over his decommissioning speech and Kelly thanked Adama for the opportunity to serve with him.
** He was third in command at the time of this episode but there is no telling how many other officer level people were either lost since the attack or transfered to command positions in other, possibly military, ships in the fleet. Possibly contrived but fully recoverable with sufficient back story.
* Just how many aboard the ''Galactica'' agree with Adama's decision to jail Roslin?
* What is the significance of the number "3"? It is prominently shown on a door that a younger William Adama enters (in Colonel Tigh's flashbacks); when Lieutenant Gaeta arranges 3 bars of soap beside each other after washing his hands in the bathroom, and is also shown during the sequence with the firewall (that Lieutenant Gaeta devises to slow down the infiltration of the Galactica's network by Cylon forces), that has 4 levels of encryption, with 3 sub-encryption codes for each barrier.
*How much time has passed between the point when the Galactica finally jumps back to rendezvous with the rest of the fleet, and when the Cylons make their way out of the crashed troop carrier? And for that matter, why hasn't anyone gone to clean up the wreckage from the flight deck?
** RDM stated in audio commentary (podcast) for this episode that this landing pod - originally set up as a museum - is not in active use.

== Analysis ==

== Notes ==

* [[Socinus]]'s lungs are filling with fluid.
* Captain Kelly is now the third in the chain of command, after Tigh.
** '''Note:''' It is possible that Kelly is only third in command because of the malefactions of Apollo, and that, typically as fourth it is not a surprise that we have not seen him before. The sudden incapcity of two superiors has bumped him up the ladder. It is also worth noting that Doc Cottle holds the rank of Major, as stated in "[[Bastille Day", which would make him third in command, were it not for his absence from Galactica when Adama was shot.
* Adama and Tigh served on a merchant freighter together after leaving the military; Adama was responsible for bringing Tigh back into the military when he reentered.
* This episode marks the first (known) attempt at networking ''Galactica'''s computer systems, at least under William Adama's command.
* Tigh's distrust of Baltar seems evident in this episode, particularly in the reply he made to [[Gaeta]] regarding the trust he had in the Lieutenant's programming abilities over Baltar's.
* Tigh's wife has taken residence in Tigh's quarters.
* Starbuck seems to incorrectly assume that there is a "real" Sharon and that the Sharon on Caprica is just a copy of her.
* This episode introduces the first combat depiction of the Cylon [[Heavy Raider]], previously seen during [[Colonial Day]].
* This episode showed the first change in the intro sequence, including subtitles, a lack of the "episode clip" sequence, and the use of the theme music previously used only in the UK showings of the first season.

== Bloopers ==

* During the scene on Caprica, Helo exclaims "for God Sakes" instead of the more Colonial "for Gods' Sakes" or Cylon "for God's Sake".

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

* '''Colonel Tigh:''' (to Commander Adama) You never should have brought me back into the service. If you had just let me be, I'd have died back there on Caprica along with everyone else, and been happier for it. I don't want a command. I never did. Don't you dare die on me now.

* ''During a flashback sequence:''
*:<b>Saul Tigh:</b> So, how'd you do it? How'd you get off this frakking freighter?
*:<b>William Adama:</b> Connections. Fran's father has a friend in the Defensive Committee.
*:<b>Saul Tigh:</b> So the new wife comes through for you. I wish I had in-laws with pull.
*:<b>William Adama:</b> Give me a couple years, and I'll have some pull. You watch me. I'll have my own Battlestar someday.

* ''In the Galactica's brig:''
*:<b>President Laura Roslin:</b> (to Tigh) Colonel, once we find the fleet, I'd like to have a word with you.
*:<b>Colonel Tigh:</b> There's nothing to talk about. You went up against the old man and you lost.

* ''Tigh's pep talk to the CIC crew:''
*: '''Tigh''': This is his command. His orders are still the word of the Gods on board this ship. Just so we're clear. This will be Adama's command until the day he dies. And we are not going to let him die. So say we all.

* ''On Caprica Sharon beng "right":''
*: '''Starbuck''': She's right, huh? Sharon the Cylon is right. Let's all just listen to Sharon the Cylon. Do whatever she says. Because that's a good idea.
*: '''Helo''': Hey, Kara, she helped me get this far.
*: '''Starbuck''': OK. I get it. I get it, Helo. You and I go way back, so I get it. All right? I remember how you felt about her, but she is not the real Sharon. That is some cheap, knock-off copy.

* ''After Starbuck shoots at Caprica Sharon:''
*: '''Helo''': I'm not going to let you kill her. She's carrying my child.
*: '''Starbuck''': My Gods, men are so painfully stupid sometimes! How do you know that?
*: '''Helo''': I know, all right? She's not lying.
*: '''Starbuck''': They lie about ''everything'', Helo. Their entire existence is a ''lie''. They're not human, Helo, they're machines. You can't have a baby with a ''machine''.
*: '''Helo''': I don't know what to tell you, OK? But I believe her. It's hard to describe, we've been together for a long time. I mean, I know what she is, but she's not like the others! Look at me, she is not.

* ''Lee gives his word to Tigh regarding his parole:''
*: '''Lee''': All right, you have my parole. When I'm on duty, I will make no attempt to free her or sow insurrection among the crew. When I'm not on duty, I'll report back to this cell.
*: '''Tigh''': (matter-of-factly) Pre-flight brief is underway in the ready room.
*: '''Lee''': Right.

* ''Starbuck, upon the realization that Caprica Boomer has just stolen her Cylon Raider:''
*: '''Starbuck''': Bitch took my ride...
=== From [[Podcast]] ===

* ''Regarding the bar room scenes (i.e. how [[Saul Tigh]] and [[William Adama]] met) that were filmed, but weren't fully utilized:''
*: "We were going to open this show, with just that scene, to show how the two men met. And then come into this scene we're watching now, where Tigh takes command of ''Galactica'', and Adama's been shot, and there's all this chaos. And the episode was going to continue to sort of flashback onto their relationship. On the early days of Tigh and Adama. [...] And we shot those sequences. And edited it together, and we looked at them, but ultimately we didn't like them. We just didn't feel -- they weren't quite the show. [...] You can't really put your finger on any particular person, except maybe me, because it is my concept. [...] I don't know if I created, or had the writers of this episode, [[Bradley Thompson]] and [[David Weddle]], I don't know if I really gave them a rich enough environment to tell that backstory. "
* ''On splitting the original "Scattered" into "Scattered" and "[[Valley of Darkness]]".''
*: "We've always struggled with the length of our scripts, the length of our episodes. If you look at it, there's only 40 minutes in change of actual program content. And our scripts tend to run, in the early drafts, in the 50s or low 50s. [...] 60 page scripts are not unheard of. An ideal page script for us, going into shooting, is usually around 46-47 pages. Sometimes we make that, sometimes we don't. [...] And I think we did on 'Scattered', I think in the final draft it was around 47-48 pages. The shows are still too huge. They're still too long. The style of storytelling -- I might have talked about this before -- just requires spending more time on character, creating momenets, really, sort of, taking your time as you go through the show. [...] So we essentially divided it into two and created another action storyline for part two."

Specialist '''Socinus''' was a deckhand aboard ''[[Battlestar]] [[Galactica]]'' assigned to Chief [[Galen Tyrol]].

I]]) by request of Tyrol due to the extreme short-handedness of qualified crew. He subsequently became stranded on Kobol with the rest of the survivors of [[Raptor 1]].

He sustained critical injuries including severe smoke inhalation during the crash.
