Battlestar Wiki has a list of [[Battlestar Wiki:Standards and Conventions|conventions and practices]] that we use to keep the text in many articles that involve episodes or characters written in present tense. Characters are always "doing" when you read or watch them, so "Gina shoots Cain" rather than "Gina shot Cain," to take an example. I was thinking about cleaning up some of the Scar png's you posted. I already jpg'ed the Scar-firing one and added it to the episode page. Do you want me to jpeg the other two on the Scar talk page, and put them on the Island? Or just delete them? (Or just leave them alone and mind my own business?) Battlestar Galactica has become near religion for me. I watched a small part of the miniseries when it premiered, but found it dark and disturbing (It was the scene on Raganar Anchorage). I did not watch again until I saw the episode [[Scattered]] on the Sci-Fi channel and was completley enraptured. I proceeded to buy the first season and the miniseries, and watched it all in a single weekend.

I am a student, and therefore suffer from sleep deprivation in the morning and insomnia at night. My peak hours for editing here are generally between 11 PM and 1 AM EST.

I firmly believe that the quality of this Wiki can only remain strong if the community behind it remains strong as well. Newbies can blossom into superb contributors if given time. * ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' detects three [[Cylon Raider|Raiders]]. Much to the surpise of the [[CIC]] crew, two Raiders are pursuing a third. [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] and [[Louanne Katraine|Kat]] are dispatched. After destroying the pursuing Raiders, they go after the third.
* In CIC, Adama orders Kat and Starbuck to escort the Raider to ''Galactica'', after hearing [[Bulldog]]'s communication squaks.
* Kat and Starbuck escort the Raider in. In the hangar bay, Adama and the party that meets the Raider, surprised at the fact that a human appears to have piloted the craft. A visibly weak Bulldog salutes Adama; Adama returns the salute.
* Over a meal (noodles eaten with chopsticks) Adama asks Bulldog how he escaped. He relates a story of plague on the [[Basestar]] and escaping after killing a Number 3 with a blow to the nose delivered through the cell bars.
* Bulldog is debriefed by the president with Adama present, where they tell a (decidedly shaky) story of a mining facility too close to the Armistice Line. When it is concluded she asks Adama if he is going to tell her what really happened. He replies that it is his mess and that he will deal it. After she leaves he kicks over a table in frustration.
* Bulldog goes to see Saul Tigh in his quarters shortly after Adama talks to him. Saul informs Bulldog that he was shot down by the ''Valkyrie'' to get rid of evidence.
*At the same time, Adama confesses the mission's actual specifics to Lee, and his belief that he provoked the Cylon attacks on the colonies. Aghast at first, Lee then tries to console his father, blaming the admirals in command and saying that he was "only one man." Adama responds, "It only takes one."
* Starbuck reviews the gun film from the fight with the Cylon Raiders and realizes that they were deliberately missing their target, letting Bulldog get away. She goes to Saul Tigh with this information, who deduces that Bulldog was sent there by the Cylons to kill the admiral.
* Tigh finds Bulldog in the process of killing Adama and stops him. Bulldog has flashbacks to being let out of his cell.
* Later, Adama presents his resignation to Roslin. Bemused, she refuses to accept it, and points out that the Admiralty may have been trying to provoke a war, and that he cannot shoulder the entire responsiblity for the holocaust on his shoulders. She then tells him that his penance will be to accept a Medal of Distinction for his long years of service, and to be a hero.
* After sending Bulldog off to a berthing on another ship with a uniform, Tigh and Adama sit down for a drink in the admiral's quarters.

*Three gives a centurion orders to shoot her, and then delete any information regarding the incident. The centurion obeys and shoots her in the head. In the moments before she is downloaded, she experiences images from her dream mixed in with memories from New Caprica and other more cryptic scenes.
*Three awakes in a rebirthing chamber where a worried Caprica-Six tries to help her recover. Three tells her, "There's something beautiful, miraculous between life and death."

*Did humans taken prisoner well before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies provide the original genetic pool for the humanoid Cylons?

*How was Bulldog directed to the precise location of the fleet?
*What class of battlestar does ''[[Valkyrie]]'' belong to?
*Why would a "Stealth Ship" in enemy territory break radio silence?
*Was ''[[Valkyrie]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s mission the only one the admiralty undertook or were there others?
*Was [[Laura Roslin]] right in speculating that the admiralty might have sent ''[[Valkyrie]]'' in order to provoke a war?
*Why did the Cylons have one craft jump in and fire on the stealth star, then jump out? Then send in two more ships to finish the attack? Could the first ship have really been a Colonial ship sent by the admiralty to expose the stealth star?
*Who were the white-robed figures [[Three]] saw in her vision before downloading?
*Were the Cylons on the baseship where Bulldog was held really sick?
*Does Bulldog have information regarding the other humanoid Cylon models that nothing is known of?

* Was Adama's whole command staff transferred from the ''[[Valkyrie]] ''to ''[[Galactica]]'' after the failure of the recon mission?
** Geata's statement about serving with Adama for the prior three years during the miniseries.

== Analysis ==
*Adama and Roslin know each other well enough by now to tell when the other is lying, or is not fooled by a lie, even when others around can't.
*At the end of the episode, [[Saul Tigh]] appears to be attempting to try and deal with his guilt over his wife, but he does not seem to want his job as XO back, at least not any time soon.
*Adama's feelings of guilt over his actions during ''[[Valkyrie]]'s'' mission seem to shed new light on the motivation for his speech at ''[[Galactica]]'s'' decomissioning ceremony at the begining of the series. Also, they explain his near-monomania with safeguarding and/or rescuing those under his command or protection.
*The Cylons seem to have been able to detect and destroy The Stealth-Star that had only entered two kilometers into their space. This seems suspicious given the fact that they were unable to detect the [[Blackbird]], presumably a far less sophisticated design. Either the Cylons had more advanced detection equipment on the [[Armistice Line]], or they had advance knowledge of Bulldog's mission.
**It is only speculation that the Blackbird's stealth capabilities were less effective than those of the Stealth-Star. The reason that the Blackbird went undetected by the Cylons is that its hull, at Helo's suggestion, was made of carbon composite. There is no way of knowing whether or not this was true of the Stealth-Star.
***In addition, the Cylons near the [[Armistice Line]] would have known to look for stealth ships, as they probably suspected that the Colonial fleet would try to gain intel on Cylon military status. After the destruction of the colonies, it is unlikely that the Cylons believed that the Colonials were still in possession of any kind of stealth fighter and would not attempt to detect one.
***The fact that the Cylons expected penetration by stealth ships suggests that they may have done their share of Armistice Line violation.
*Bulldog's story is even less believable given the fact that it took Kara Thrace several hours to gut a [[Raider]] and learn how to fly it. Granted, the Raider Kara captured was damaged, but it would still have taken Bulldog some time to adapt the raider for his own use.
**As the episode implies that Bulldog was deliberately released by the Cylons in an effort to direct his anger towards Adama, it is possible that the Cylons allowed Bulldog to gain a working knowledge of the raider.
*Bulldog probably could have stolen a Heavy Raider, which unlike the light versions seems to have a crew compartment and perhaps piloting controls, but then the production crew couldn't have re-used the captured-Raider prop from "[[You Can't Go Home Again]]" on the flight deck set.
*That Kara Thrace goes to Tigh with her findings is an acknowledgment of their shared semi-pariah status and the connection that was shown in "[[Collaborators]]" for the first time
*The last two scenes of "Hero" appear to have been edited to ensure that the final scene was with Adama and Tigh. Right after the celebration scene, Adama is seen giving Bulldog a new uniform, but Adama is wearing his everyday uniform. In the final scene with Tigh, Adama is wearing his dress grays from the celebration. It appears at the very least, the two scenes were in reverse order, meaning the episode originally ended with Adama giving Bulldog his new uniform.
*The architecture of the place Number Three visits between life and death is similar if not identical to that of the operahouse on Kobol which Baltar and his internal Six entered in "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]".
*Three's flashbacks after being shot indicate her to be the same individual who was killed on Caprica by [[Caprica-Six]] in "[[Downloaded]]" and who found Hera in "[[Exodus, Part II]]". It is of course possible that some of these recollections are the result of memory-sharing rather than direct experience.
**If she is the same Three that died on Caprica, that leaves the question how it can be that she didn't get the Opera House experience on her first death, even though she was stuck in limbo for thirty-six hours because of the massive casualties at the cafe in [[Downloaded]]. It is plausible that this Three wanted to die because she'd never experienced death before.
***It is also plausible that God is only just now trying to tell her something.
*There's at least one other doctor of some kind in the fleet, because Cottle instructs Bulldog to report to him.
*The Cylons appear to know the current location of the fleet.

===Adama's Dossier===
Laura Roslin reviews a dossier prepared for her by Billy on her first day aboard ''Galactica''. It includes large photos of the battlestar ''Galactica'', a photograph of the CIC crew of the battlestar ''Valkyrie'', a (mostly illegible) certificate bearing Saul Tigh's name, and a cursory biography of William Adama, reprodued in full below:

This provides us with some interesting information. The fields in the format X#/##### appear to be dates, with the five-digit string following the solidus apparently corresponding to the year. This corroborates various points of information supplied to us thus far:

* We learned in "[[The Hand of God]]" that Adama's father was named Joseph, and was a civil rights attorney. This was mentioned again in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]"
* We learned in a [http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/episodes/season02/202/deleted1.html scene] cut from "[[Valley of Darkness]]" that Adama joined the fleet toward the end of the war, and was attached to ''Galactica'' as a fighter pilot.
* We learned in "[[Act of Contrition]]" that Adama was serving on ''[[Atlantia]]'' during his thousandth landing, which indicates that he was still a flight officer at that time. Given his rank of Major, he was likely the [[CAG]] on Atlantia.
* The date of the Armistice is correct at 42 years before the present, as stated in the [[Miniseries]] and accounting for the passage of slightly over two years since that time.

We can also deduce some interesting new information:

* This episode marks the 45th anniversary of Adama's commissioning, which puts it in the year 21356, and makes Adama 66 years old.
* Adama spent three years in between being mustered out and finding a job on a tramp freighter. We may speculate that it was during this time that his relationship with first wife [[Caroline Adama|Caroline]] deteriorated.
* Adama spent a total of 14 years serving in the merchant fleet, a much longer time period than we had been lead to believe.
* In "[[Torn]]", Adama told us that he and Tigh met 30 years ago. That would be 21326, which (correctly) puts it in the middle of Adama's merchant fleet service.
* We know that Adama was a major by the time he arranged for Tigh to be reinstated in the fleet ([[Scattered]]), which means that at least six years past in between Adama's recomissioning and Tigh's.
* Ronald Moore [[Podcast:Scattered|told us]] that the flashback scenes in "[[Scattered]]" took place 20 years before that episode, or in 21334. In fact, they appear to span at least an eleven-year period between 21326 (Adama and Tigh's first meeting) to 21337 (Adama's promotion to Major)
* The first Colonial Day, marking the unification of the colonies, was probably in 21304. The one celebrated in "[[Colonial Day]]" was the 52nd, and it is now two years later.

If the five-digit string following the solidus is in fact the year, as seems inescapable based on the above, the letter-digit sequence before it must indicate the position in the year. There are 260 unique letter-digit sequences of that format, which may indicate a shorter year in the Colonial calendar (a year of twenty-six ten-day weeks?) However, our knowledge of Colonial timekeeping is too incomplete to draw any conclusions.

It is astonishing to learn that the Colonials have (or believe they have) over 21,000 years of recorded history. By comparison, Pythia was said to have recorded her prophecies 3,600 years ago ([[The Hand of God]]) and the exodus from Kobol took place just 2,000 years ago. On earth, Human civilization is only about 6,000 years old.

Adama's resignation letter at the end of the episode appears to be dated in an entirely different format. It's difficult to read clearly, but it appears to be dated "27/89/9923".

== Notes ==

'''Simon''' is a [[Cylon agent]] who poses as a doctor caring for [[Kara Thrace|Kara "Starbuck" Thrace]] after her capture in "[[The Farm]]."

Simon tries to casually persuade her into bearing children but is unsuccessful. When his diplomatic efforts fail, he surgically explores her ovaries without Thrace's permission, either partially removing an ovary or its eggs. On orders from a copy of [[Number Six]], Simon arranges a time to surgically remove Thrace's ovaries.

Before Simon could sedate her again and remove her ovaries, Thrace's suspicion that he is a Cylon is confirmed. In conversation he uses her call sign, which she never mentioned in his presence. Thrace kills him and escapes from the [[Farms|Farm]].

Another copy of Simon is seen just as Thrace exits the building, a more well-kept copy in a dark business suit who greets Thrace just as she reaches the outside of the compound. Before he can speak further, members of the [[Caprica Resistance]] immediately kill him as they storm the Farm to liberate Thrace.

At least one other copy is seen on Cylon-occupied Caprica. ([[Downloaded]])

The sentence that Kara overhears Simon saying to Number Six is, ''"Pending lab test results on the sample ovaries, complete removal will proceed tomorrow. However, humans only have two ovaries, so it seems implausible that he would take a "sample" one, so perhaps the line truly meant "ova" (egg cells). *It is possible that this particular model, like the Valerii model, is prone to sympathizing with humans. He expresses regret, which another Six model notices, when discussing the possibility of removing her ovaries. Cylon agents can either be actively aware of their origins as Cylons or can be programmed to believe that they are truly human, resulting in a "sleeper agent". These types of Cylons were responsible for aiding in the complete destruction of the Twelve Colonies through their use of sabotage and infiltration.

== Origins ==

Following the end of the [[Cylon War]], the Cylons withdrew from Colonial space to a planet of their own. For some 40 years, nothing was heard of them, and no apparent attempt was made by the Colonials to keep an eye on them. The only contact expected between the two was created by the Colonial government through planned annual diplomatic meetings at [[Armistice Station]]. However, while the Colonials sent a repesentative to the station every year, the Cylons did not ([[Miniseries]]).

During their forty years of isolation, the Cylons developed or evolved into a ''humanoid form''<ref name="humanoids">The idea of Cylons in humanoid form is not new. This concept appeared over 25 years earlier in the episode "[[The Night the Cylons Landed, Part I|The Night the Cylons Landed]]" in the short-lived spinoff of the Original Series, ''[[Galactica 1980]]''.</ref> that is indistinguishable with the human form, down to the cellular level, but not completely at a molecular level. These '''Cylon agents'''<ref name="name">Viewers initially lacked an authentic term to call the humanoid Cylons during season 1 of the series. Here on the ''Battlestar Wiki'', the descriptive term "Humano-Cylon" was used for a time. Dialogue in several episodes throughout season 2 have consistently used "Cylon agent" to describe the humanoid Cylons. Other names are also used, such as "humanoid-Cylons" (which [[Tricia Helfer]] often uses in interviews, but apparently more for convenience than an official name), or "Bio-Cylons" which is sometimes used derisively by fans of the [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Original Series]].
*Some of the resistance fighters on Caprica refer to the Cylon agents as "Skin Jobs," a script reference to ''[[Wikipedia:Blade Runner|Blade Runner]]''.</ref> have the capacity to emulate many human physical acts, including sex, as demonstrated by the Number Six, Number Eight and Cavil models. Cylon agents can be programmed to believe that they are truly human. These are known as 'sleeper agents'. Sleeper agents appear to have a low-level Cylon personality that can conduct operations while placing the human sleeper personality "on-hold." The [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|first copy of Sharon Valerii]], known by her callsign of "Boomer" on battlestar ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'', had little awareness of her true nature until her arrest for the attempted assassination of [[William Adama]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]). This sleeper agent conducts or aids in sabotage operations within the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] ([[Water]], [[Litmus]]). Most agent copies, particularly [[Number Five|Numbers Five]] [[Number Six|and Six]], imitate human behavior, but are fully aware of their true nature and behave more or less like a human "spy."

Agents are also susceptible to the same emotional traumas and clevages that their human counterparts are, further proving that personalities are a realistic part of their psyche, despite the presence of the Cylon portion of their personality. A case in point is a copy of Number Six, known as [[Gina]], who was repeatedly physically and sexually assaulted by the crew of ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''. These repeated assaults lead to Gina's near-catatonic state at the time ''Peagsus'' discovered [[the Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

Although they cannot do so remotely or wirelessly, Cylon agents can interface with a computer system or computer network through subdermal physical contact with input cables connected to the devices. In "[[Flight of the Phoenix]]," Caprica-Valerii connected to ''Galactica'''s computers by this method when she inserted a fiber-optic cable through her left palm and into her arm. This subdermal fiber-optical link suggests that certain tissues in a Cylon agent are photo-reactive. The process involves cutting an opening into the agent's palm and appears painful, so it may not be a common method of data access.

A Cylon agent's brain is certainly human in appearance, but is apparently still susceptible to damage from certain types of radiation. Upon the death of an agent's body, a Cylon agent transfers its consciousness into another copy of itself. This ability is limited by distance, signal integrity, and proximity to a resurrection node or, in space, a [[Resurrection Ship]] ([[Miniseries]], "[[Flesh and Bone]]," "[[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]").

Based on [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Caprica Sharon Valerii]]'s conversation with [[Kara Thrace]] in the episode, "[[The Farm]]," it appears that all Cylon agents may share a ''collective knowledgebase'' of data from other active or deactivated Cylon agents. (A collective knowledgebase works more like an internet chat forum, or even a wiki, which differs from the concept of the collective consciousness as seen in SF characters such as the Borg in ''Star Trek.'' Writers of the show have indicated this type of "hive mind" is not used with agents.)

Valerii spoke of a conversation between Thrace and the second captured [[Leoben Conoy]] copy in the Fleet. This information would only be known to that now-dead Leoben copy if sharing were not possible. Kara Thrace's call sign, Starbuck, was also a likely bit of information gleaned from the collective knowledgebase that [[Simon]] knew of the Viper pilot, although Thrace never told him of her call sign and used it to strike back at her abductors ([[The Farm]]). Also, during "[[Flight of the Phoenix]]," Caprica-Valerii asks [[Anastasia Dualla]] if she still carried her pocket knife, a fact which should have been known only to the ''Galactica'' copy. When under duress, "Boomer" Valerii is able to tell [[Gaius Baltar]] the number of remaining Cylon agent agents in the Fleet, information that would be impossible to gather without a collective knowledgebase to all agents ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Some or all Cylon "female" models may have the capacity to bear children seeded by human males ("[[33]]," "[[Flesh and Bone]]," "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]", "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]"). The Cylons tested numerous methods of sexual reproduction, yet these failed due to a known flaw in the Cylon agent design. Cylon agents cannot reproduce with each other biologically, so in an attempt to subvert this deficiency, they try to interbreed with humans, creating hybrid offspring. "[[Farms]]" were apparently set up across all the occupied Colonies where survivors, specifically, young fertile women of child-bearing age, were rounded up, placed under heavy sedation and turned into "baby machines" through artificial insemination (Ron Moore said there are presumably also farms for male humans, plus in vitro experiment labs, etc.). However, this method has been unsuccessful thus far. Another drastically different approach is taken by attempting to conceive a child through a bond of love. It seems that [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Caprica-Sharon Valerii]]'s love-child is the lone success story of the relatively short history of Cylon sexual reproduction ([[The Farm]]).

Thus far, seven models have been revealed to ''viewers'' as Cylon agents<ref name="dossier">The term "Known Cylon agents" is shown on a dossier on the models shown on [[Laura Roslin]]'s desk on ''[[Colonial One]]'' in the episode "[[Epiphanies]]."</ref>. All Seven models are known to the Colonial Fleet as of the [[Occupation]]. Of each model there are many copies, probably tens or hundreds of thousands. Each Cylon agent has the same face, stature, hair, eye & skin color, gender, etc. as all the others of his or her model. The copies apparently start out with the same basic personality, but grow more distinct due to their individual experiences.

Of all the Cylon agent models revealed to viewers, the Colonials are not yet aware that D'anna Biers is a Cylon agent as of the season two finale, "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]". Three's seem to be the most calculating and two-faced models shown. The copy that tried to box Sharon Valerii exibited these chracteristics the most. Part of Biers' mission within ''Galactica's'' fleet (which fits her work as a journalist) likely involves the relay of important intelligence within the Fleet, such as the status of the pregnant Caprica copy of Sharon Valerii. This model's status as a Cylon is unknown to the Colonials until the rescue of the surviving members of the [[Caprica Resistance]]. It is reasonable to assume that the surviving Resistance members have since revealed this information.

This model attempts to sow the seeds of discontent or confusion, particularly during crucial life-threatening situations, and endeavors to undermine authority that threatens his objectives ([[Miniseries]]). Doral models are more covert, assuming an ordinary "everyman" appearance that's blended in what may seem to be insignificant behind-the-scenes issues (such as converting ''Galactica'' into a museum). Of all the models thus far, the Aaron Doral models are the most militant, fanatic and consistent in message and objectives to the Cylon objectives, whether he is dispassionately discussing the fate of humanity with his comrades or attempting to kill or maim Colonials in a suicide bomb attack ([[Litmus]]). Viewers first meet Doral during a tour of ''Galactica'' with other Colonial citizens (possibly the press) as we see the battlestar for the first time at the start of the [[Miniseries]]. Viewers aren't sure of Doral's true identity as the second Cylon agent until the Miniseries' conclusion.

Copies of this model have appeared under the name/alias "[[Aaron Doral]]."

A copy of Number Five is seen with [[Caprica-Six]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)]] at the end of Season 2, and seems to be in command of the others. While Six and Sharon express concern and warning to Baltar and the New Capricans, Five expresses a tone of unmistakable threat.

A copy of Number Five (presumably the same entity seen at the end of Season 2) has [[Jammer]] detained, and is questioning him at the [[New Caprica Detention Center]] in Webisode 7. He shows classic tactics to try to buy the young refugee's trust, and eventually glean information from him about the [[resistance]]. He provides [[Jammer]] with an unknown Cylon device which will allow him to alert this Five in order to report further uprisings for the sake of peace.

This is the first Cylon agent model shown to viewers at the start of the [[Miniseries]].

This model utilizes the human need / desire for sexual relations to her advantage. She tends to be very religious and monotheistic. Model 6 desires to know what it is to be alive. There is something inherently enigmatic about her, more so than with the other models. Sixes have been described as "usually so hardcore", referring to their tendencies towards violence.

Typically she is the alpha female, as demonstrated on multiple occasions ([[Miniseries]], [[33]], [[Water]], [[Six Degrees of Separation]]).

Copies of this model have appeared under the names/aliases "[[Shelly Godfrey]]" , "[[Gina]]", and "[[Caprica-Six|Caprica]]" (in honor of her work on Caprica towards the destruction of the Colonies).

A virtual personality of Number Six haunts [[Gaius Baltar]] in a manner only he can see or hear. Throughout seasons one and two of the series, viewers presume this "virtual Six" was the "[[Caprica-Six]]" persona destroyed in the Miniseries. Another copy of Cavil appears on [[Caprica]], informing a [[Caprica Resistance]] [[SAR]] team that the Cylons had left the Colonies some 18 hours after Cylon units cease an attack on their unit. When the Caprica SAR team returns to ''Galactica'', Tyrol recognizes and identifies Cavil as a Cylon agent. For a priest, and especially for a Cylon, Cavil displays an utter disdain for both the beliefs of the Colonial's [[Lords of Kobol]] and the Cylon [[God]].

[[Cavil#Caprica-Cavil|Caprica-Cavil]] alleges that he is sent to ''Galactica'' as a messenger of peace. He relays what occurred after [[Caprica-Six]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)]] are rescued from the wreckage of the cafe bombing ([[Downloaded]]). The two "Heroes of the Cylon" use their new found celebrity to voice what many in the Cylon population felt themselves... The Cylon annihilation of the human race and occupation of the Twelve Colonies was wrong. Caprica-Cavil tells [[William Adama|Admiral Adama]] and [[Laura Roslin|President Roslin]] that the Cylons will go their own way, and leave the Fleet alone.

But Cavil's proclamation [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|proves false a year later]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]), due to the change in the Cylons' attitudes caused by Caprica-Six and Boomer, as the Cylons arrive to allegedly help the humans and live in peaceful coexistence with them ("[[Occupation]]", "[[Precipice]]").

Interestingly, the Fleet copy of Cavil claims, in conversation with Tyrol, that he had been preaching longer than Tyrol had been "sucking down oxygen" ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]). If Cavil is being truthful and, assuming Tyrol is roughly thirty years old, Cavil has been operational for at least thirty years. This information conflicts with aired information that suggests that Cylon agent infiltration of the Colonies began approximately two years prior to the Miniseries. Based on this information, it is likely that Cavil's comment is part of his "cover" as an older Colonial citizen.

== Origins ==

Following the end of the [[Cylon War]], the Cylons withdrew from Colonial space to a planet of their own. For some 40 years, nothing was heard of them, and no apparent attempt was made by the Colonials to keep an eye on them. The only contact expected between the two was created by the Colonial government through planned annual diplomatic meetings at [[Armistice Station]]. However, while the Colonials sent a repesentative to the station every year, the Cylons did not ([[Miniseries]]).

During their forty years of isolation, the Cylons developed or evolved into a ''humanoid form''<ref name="humanoids">The idea of Cylons in humanoid form is not new. This concept appeared over 25 years earlier in the episode "[[The Night the Cylons Landed, Part I|The Night the Cylons Landed]]" in the short-lived spinoff of the Original Series, ''[[Galactica 1980]]''.</ref> that is indistinguishable with the human form, down to the cellular level, but not completely at a molecular level. This sleeper agent conducts or aids in sabotage operations within the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] ([[Water]], [[Litmus]]). Most agent copies, particularly [[Number Five|Numbers Five]] [[Number Six|and Six]], imitate human behavior, but are fully aware of their true nature and behave more or less like a human "spy."

Agents are also susceptible to the same emotional traumas and clevages that their human counterparts are, further proving that personalities are a realistic part of their psyche, despite the presence of the Cylon portion of their personality. A case in point is a copy of Number Six, known as [[Gina]], who was repeatedly physically and sexually assaulted by the crew of ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''. These repeated assaults lead to Gina's near-catatonic state at the time ''Peagsus'' discovered [[the Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

Although they cannot do so remotely or wirelessly, Cylon agents can interface with a computer system or computer network through subdermal physical contact with input cables connected to the devices. In "[[Flight of the Phoenix]]," Caprica-Valerii connected to ''Galactica'''s computers by this method when she inserted a fiber-optic cable through her left palm and into her arm. This subdermal fiber-optical link suggests that certain tissues in a Cylon agent are photo-reactive. The process involves cutting an opening into the agent's palm and appears painful, so it may not be a common method of data access.

A Cylon agent's brain is certainly human in appearance, but is apparently still susceptible to damage from certain types of radiation. Upon the death of an agent's body, a Cylon agent transfers its consciousness into another copy of itself. This ability is limited by distance, signal integrity, and proximity to a resurrection node or, in space, a [[Resurrection Ship]] ([[Miniseries]], "[[Flesh and Bone]]," "[[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]").

Based on [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Caprica Sharon Valerii]]'s conversation with [[Kara Thrace]] in the episode, "[[The Farm]]," it appears that all Cylon agents may share a ''collective knowledgebase'' of data from other active or deactivated Cylon agents. (A collective knowledgebase works more like an internet chat forum, or even a wiki, which differs from the concept of the collective consciousness as seen in SF characters such as the Borg in ''Star Trek.'' Writers of the show have indicated this type of "hive mind" is not used with agents.)

Valerii spoke of a conversation between Thrace and the second captured [[Leoben Conoy]] copy in the Fleet. This information would only be known to that now-dead Leoben copy if sharing were not possible. Kara Thrace's call sign, Starbuck, was also a likely bit of information gleaned from the collective knowledgebase that [[Simon]] knew of the Viper pilot, although Thrace never told him of her call sign and used it to strike back at her abductors ([[The Farm]]). Also, during "[[Flight of the Phoenix]]," Caprica-Valerii asks [[Anastasia Dualla]] if she still carried her pocket knife, a fact which should have been known only to the ''Galactica'' copy. When under duress, "Boomer" Valerii is able to tell [[Gaius Baltar]] the number of remaining Cylon agent agents in the Fleet, information that would be impossible to gather without a collective knowledgebase to all agents ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Some or all Cylon "female" models may have the capacity to bear children seeded by human males ("[[33]]," "[[Flesh and Bone]]," "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]", "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]"). The Cylons tested numerous methods of sexual reproduction, yet these failed due to a known flaw in the Cylon agent design. Cylon agents cannot reproduce with each other biologically, so in an attempt to subvert this deficiency, they try to interbreed with humans, creating hybrid offspring. "[[Farms]]" were apparently set up across all the occupied Colonies where survivors, specifically, young fertile women of child-bearing age, were rounded up, placed under heavy sedation and turned into "baby machines" through artificial insemination (Ron Moore said there are presumably also farms for male humans, plus in vitro experiment labs, etc.). However, this method has been unsuccessful thus far. Another drastically different approach is taken by attempting to conceive a child through a bond of love. All Seven models are known to the Colonial Fleet as of the [[Occupation]]. Of each model there are many copies, probably tens or hundreds of thousands. Each Cylon agent has the same face, stature, hair, eye & skin color, gender, etc. as all the others of his or her model. The copies apparently start out with the same basic personality, but grow more distinct due to their individual experiences.

Of all the Cylon agent models revealed to viewers, the Colonials are not yet aware that D'anna Biers is a Cylon agent as of the season two finale, "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]". Three's seem to be the most calculating and two-faced models shown. The copy that tried to box Sharon Valerii exibited these chracteristics the most. Part of Biers' mission within ''Galactica's'' fleet (which fits her work as a journalist) likely involves the relay of important intelligence within the Fleet, such as the status of the pregnant Caprica copy of Sharon Valerii. This model's status as a Cylon is unknown to the Colonials until the rescue of the surviving members of the [[Caprica Resistance]]. It is reasonable to assume that the surviving Resistance members have since revealed this information.

Doral models are more covert, assuming an ordinary "everyman" appearance that's blended in what may seem to be insignificant behind-the-scenes issues (such as converting ''Galactica'' into a museum). Of all the models thus far, the Aaron Doral models are the most militant, fanatic and consistent in message and objectives to the Cylon objectives, whether he is dispassionately discussing the fate of humanity with his comrades or attempting to kill or maim Colonials in a suicide bomb attack ([[Litmus]]). Viewers first meet Doral during a tour of ''Galactica'' with other Colonial citizens (possibly the press) as we see the battlestar for the first time at the start of the [[Miniseries]]. Viewers aren't sure of Doral's true identity as the second Cylon agent until the Miniseries' conclusion.

Copies of this model have appeared under the name/alias "[[Aaron Doral]]."

A copy of Number Five is seen with [[Caprica-Six]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)]] at the end of Season 2, and seems to be in command of the others. While Six and Sharon express concern and warning to Baltar and the New Capricans, Five expresses a tone of unmistakable threat.

A copy of Number Five (presumably the same entity seen at the end of Season 2) has [[Jammer]] detained, and is questioning him at the [[New Caprica Detention Center]] in Webisode 7. He shows classic tactics to try to buy the young refugee's trust, and eventually glean information from him about the [[resistance]]. He provides [[Jammer]] with an unknown Cylon device which will allow him to alert this Five in order to report further uprisings for the sake of peace.

The Number Eight model is the closest witnessed Cylon agent model to show its abilities as a soldier. This model has shown naiveté in many matters. She is apparently not as religious as other Cylon models, but has demonstrated that she can love, and is capable of being impregnated by a human ([[Six Degrees of Separation]], [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]). She may be "defective", as the Cylon programming within the sleeper agent known as "Boomer" on ''Galactica'' conflicts multiple times with its human personality ([[Water]]). Also, the fully aware Sharon Valerii found by [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] on Caprica switches alliances from Cylon to Colonial after falling in love with Helo and aids the Colonials [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|for a time]] (several episodes, most notably "[[Flight of the Phoenix]]"). Number Eight is the third Cylon agent introduced during the [[Miniseries]]. However, viewers do not discover her true identity until the very end of the Miniseries when a second copy of Sharon Valerii appears at [[Ragnar Anchorage]] while retrieving an abandoned copy of Number Five.

The Conoy model has shown to be religiously oriented and claims to be prescient on some level, using dogma and intermixing truth with falsehoods. Despite his disdain in prayer and religous pomp and circumstance ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]), Cavil conducts a prayer session with [[Laura Roslin]], the latter apparently hoping that prayer would aid her success in the elections. Another copy of Cavil appears on [[Caprica]], informing a [[Caprica Resistance]] [[SAR]] team that the Cylons had left the Colonies some 18 hours after Cylon units cease an attack on their unit. When the Caprica SAR team returns to ''Galactica'', Tyrol recognizes and identifies Cavil as a Cylon agent. For a priest, and especially for a Cylon, Cavil displays an utter disdain for both the beliefs of the Colonial's [[Lords of Kobol]] and the Cylon [[God]].

[[Cavil#Caprica-Cavil|Caprica-Cavil]] alleges that he is sent to ''Galactica'' as a messenger of peace. He relays what occurred after [[Caprica-Six]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)]] are rescued from the wreckage of the cafe bombing ([[Downloaded]]). The two "Heroes of the Cylon" use their new found celebrity to voice what many in the Cylon population felt themselves... The Cylon annihilation of the human race and occupation of the Twelve Colonies was wrong. Caprica-Cavil tells [[William Adama|Admiral Adama]] and [[Laura Roslin|President Roslin]] that the Cylons will go their own way, and leave the Fleet alone.

But Cavil's proclamation [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|proves false a year later]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]), due to the change in the Cylons' attitudes caused by Caprica-Six and Boomer, as the Cylons arrive to allegedly help the humans and live in peaceful coexistence with them ("[[Occupation]]", "[[Precipice]]").

Interestingly, the Fleet copy of Cavil claims, in conversation with Tyrol, that he had been preaching longer than Tyrol had been "sucking down oxygen" ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]). If Cavil is being truthful and, assuming Tyrol is roughly thirty years old, Cavil has been operational for at least thirty years. This information conflicts with aired information that suggests that Cylon agent infiltration of the Colonies began approximately two years prior to the Miniseries. Based on this information, it is likely that Cavil's comment is part of his "cover" as an older Colonial citizen.

Simon tries to casually persuade her into bearing children but is unsuccessful. When his diplomatic efforts fail, he surgically explores her ovaries without Thrace's permission, either partially removing an ovary or its eggs. However, humans only have two ovaries, so it seems implausible that he would take a "sample" one, so perhaps the line truly meant "ova" (egg cells). *It is possible that this particular model, like the Valerii model, is prone to sympathizing with humans. He expresses regret, which another Six model notices, when discussing the possibility of removing her ovaries. *Actor Rick Worthy doesn't actually appear in "Downloaded" and is uncredited: briefly during the cafe scene, we see another bald black man ''from behind'', and we see him walking by in some of the outdoor scenes in the background. It is clearly implied to be Simon, however he is not credited and RDM stated in [[Podcast:Downloaded#Act 1|the podcast]] that it was just an extra standing in for him.

I am Kraetos. (I was BMS until 2/7/2006, and am refered to as such on some talk pages.)

Battlestar Galactica has become near religion for me. I watched a small part of the miniseries when it premiered, but found it dark and disturbing (It was the scene on Raganar Anchorage). I did not watch again until I saw the episode [[Scattered]] on the Sci-Fi channel and was completley enraptured. I proceeded to buy the first season and the miniseries, and watched it all in a single weekend.

I am a student, and therefore suffer from sleep deprivation in the morning and insomnia at night. My peak hours for editing here are generally between 11 PM and 1 AM EST.

I firmly believe that the quality of this Wiki can only remain strong if the community behind it remains strong as well. Newbies can blossom into superb contributors if given time. [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers|Bite the newbies]] and you might end up like this fellow to the left.

The '''Cylon Transponder''' is a small, ovoid device that was found installed discretely under ''[[Galactica]]'s'' [[DRADIS]] console. A similar device was carried about by the [[Cylon agent]], [[Number Six]], during her time on Caprica with [[Gaius Baltar]] ([[Miniseries]]), perhaps to better allow tracking of herself by other Cylon agents.

The transponder works as an [[IFF]] device, identifying anyone or anything that holds it as a "friendly" contact to other Cylons. Apparently this device was installed by the first copy of [[Aaron Doral]] shortly before the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon attack]] began while security throughout the ship was more lax during the work of transforming ''Galactica'' into a museum. It was likely intended by the Cylons to track ''Galactica'' should she escape a Cylon attack.

A second transponder is aboard the captured [[Raider]], piloted by [[Kara Thrace]] in her against-orders adventure back to [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]] in search of an ancient [[Arrow of Apollo|artifact]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]). This transponder is obtained from the copy of [[Leoben Conoy]] found on the [[Gemenon Traveller]], in a scene cut from the episode "[[Flesh and Bone]]."

It is presumed that the transponder uses a form of [[wireless]] communication, although this has not been established in the series.

Keen eyes who watch the [[Miniseries]] will note that the transponder was not on the DRADIS console until later in the show, indicating that it was placed either shortly before or after the ship entered combat. William Adama was born on Caprica to [[Evelyn Adama|Evelyn]] and [[Joseph Adama]]. His mother was an accountant and his father, an attorney specializing in civil liberties ([[Litmus]]). They divorced while he was in his teens.

At the outbreak of the first [[Cylon War]], Adama was serving in the [[Colonial Fleet]] as a [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] pilot. He allegedly gained the call sign of "Husker" on account of his baritone "gravelled" voice. He proved to be a gifted pilot, shooting down his first [[Cylon]] on his very first mission. He racked-up his 1,000th deck landing while serving aboard the Battlestar ''[[Atlantia]]'' ([[Act of Contrition]]), when he held the rank of Lieutenant.

Adama served on ''[[Galactica]]'' during the war as a pilot. In the last week of the war, the battlestar was boarded by Cylon forces. He recalled to his friend and fellow war veteran [[Saul Tigh]] that the Cylons divided into two teams. One headed for the ship's [[Aft Damage Control|secondary damage control]] and vented the atmosphere, while the other proceded to [[Auxiliary Fire Control|auxiliary fire control]] and turned ''Galactica'''s guns against the fleet. Over 2,000 people died in the attack ([[Valley of Darkness]], [http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/episodes/season02/202/deleted1.html deleted scene]).

Following the Cylon armistice, William Adama married [[Caroline Adama|Caroline]]. They had two sons together: [[Lee Adama|Lee]] and [[Zak Adama|Zak]], before the pressures of Adama's career and the time he spent away from home of active service began to place a strain on their marriage. Nevertheless, this did not stop both Lee and Zak following their father into the service - both signing-up for training as Viper pilots.

A photograph seen in the Miniseries seems to imply that Adama was still in the fleet when his children were roughly six to eight years old, but within a few years he had been discharged as the result of a reduction-in-force. His marriage to Caroline had apparently fully deteriorated by this point, and he found work on a civilian freighter where he met [[Saul Tigh]], who was to become a longtime friend.

After some time as a civilian, Adama married a second time, to a woman named [[Anne Adama|Anne]]. Her father was able to pull some strings with the defense subcomittee and Adama was reinstated to the [[Colonial Fleet]]. Adama himself arranged for Tigh's reinstatement a few years later.

During his training, Zak Adama became involved with his flight training officer, Lt. [[Kara Thrace|Kara "Starbuck" Thrace]], to whom he became engaged shortly before taking his final qualifying flight ([[Act of Contrition]]). As a result of this, Thrace allowed her personal feelings interfere with her professional judgement, passing Zak Adama through flight school when she should have failed him ([[Mini-Series]]). Zak was later killed in an operational flight.

As a result of his son's death, Adama faced the failure of his marriage and estrangement from his eldest son, Lee. However, to counter this, he became acquainted with Kara Thrace, and such was the bond that formed between them, Thrace transferred from flight school to one of the Battlestar ''Galactica's'' squadrons, where she served with Adama for some two years before the Cylon's reappearance ([[Act of Contrition]]).

Adama is a natural military leader, as demonstrated by his rise to rank of Commander in charge of a Colonial battlestar. He has the rare combination of qualities that make up a good leader: insight, the ability to naturally command respect, a common touch that enables him to relate to the enlisted personnel under his command as well as his officers, intuition, intelligence, a strong belief in his own abilities, and the ability to take the advice of others. These qualities are reflected in the fact the personnel of all ranks aboard ''Galactica'' hold him in high regard, and know that his is approachable ([[Miniseries]]).

If Adama has any failings, they are his mistrust of politicians and his strong sense of loyalty to those he regards as family and friends. The former is demonstrated in his uneasy acceptance of [[Laura Roslin]] ([[Miniseries]], "[[33]]", "[[Water]]"), which is quickly undermined by Roslin's own doubts following her encounter with [[Leoben Conoy]] ([[Flesh and Bone]]). The latter is most clearly demonstrated by both his support of Colonel [[Saul Tigh]] and his actions when Kara Thrace is posted as Missing in Action.

Despite Tigh's obvious drinking problem ([[Miniseries]]), Adama retains him as his [[Executive officer]] when another commanding officer might have too easily transferred Tigh to a planetside desk job to avoid the embarrassment. While this demonstrated Adama's unstinting friendship for Tigh, it does the colonel no favors with the officers and crew under his command - many of whom are openly dismissive of him ([[Miniseries]]) - a fact that may encourage his drinking.

With Thrace, Adama's loyalty places the mission to find her above the need to protect [[The Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] and ensure the survival of humanity - thus putting everyone at risk ([[You Can't Go Home Again]]).

=== Surprise [[Cylon Attack]] ===

At the time of the Cylon's sudden attack on the Twelve Colonies, William Adama is serving out his final weeks as commander of the battlestar ''[[Galactica]]''. After some 50 years of service, the historic warship is in the process of being decommissioned, and it was one of Adama's final duties to formally hand her over to the [[Colonial Ministry of Education]] (by way of Education Secretary [[Laura Roslin]]) who would operate the ship as a living museum commemorating the original Cylon War and an educational center ([[Miniseries]]).

As a part of the decommissioning ceremonies, someone decides it would be a fitting tribute to have Lee Adama, recently-promoted to the rank of Captain, lead an honor flyby of Vipers - an ironic statement at best, given the strained relationship between the two men. The situation is not made any easier when Lee Adama finds he is to fly his father's battle-honored old Mark II Viper.

When he is first notified of the Cylon attack, Adama's first thoughts were, "Dead. We're all dead" ([[Home, Part II]]). Despite this, as well as the presumed loss of his wife in Caprica City, he manages to shepherd [[The Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] to safety. Since the attack on the Twelve Colonies, Adama strives to lead the remnants of humanity with the same conviction as has marked his entire military career. Military discipline remains (mostly) intact aboard ''Galactica'', and she continues to operate as a top-rate warship, despite her lack of any other military support (up to the discovery of ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'') and despite her reduced complement in terms of both fighters and crew.

As a combat veteran, Adama is more than capable of both strategic and tactical operations and making the decisions both require. When [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]] Fleet Headquarters is destroyed and then Admiral [[Nagala]] is killed, he unhesitatingly takes control of the Colonial's response to the Cylon incursion and starts defining a response to the onslaught. Once President Roslin convinces Adama the futility of fighting against overwhelming odds, and with what may be the last 50,000 humans that remain anywhere, he makes the switch to the more tactical thinking that keeps the Colonial fleet at least one step ahead of their Cylon pursuers. From the outset, he is savvy enough to give every single survivor of the devastating attack on the Colonies a reason for hope for the future: the legend of Earth. This falsehood comes back to haunt him as the weeks continue, as Roslin is aware of this lie to the crew and states this privately to Adama.

Away from the daily rigours of command, Adama continues to face the problem of [[humano-Cylon|humanoid Cylon agent]] infiltration within the Fleet ("[[Litmus]]", "[[Flesh and Bone]]", "[[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]") and the possibility of saboteurs aboard ''Galactica'' and the Fleet ([[Water]]) - sabateurs who are still be at large, waiting for an opportunity to strike again. Adama has also had to redefine the boundaries of military and civil leadership, working as best he can with Laura Roslin, now recognized as the President of the people of the Twelve Colonies following the loss of practically all of the original Colonial [[government]].

Events since the Cylon attack causes Adama to reconcile with his son, Lee. While they do not always see eye-to-eye, the needs of ''Galactica's'' crew and humanity as a whole have enabled them to better understand one another and move past their differences.

Following the loss of seven of the ''Galactica's'' pilots, Adama is forced to face the truth concerning Zak Adama's death, and Kara Thrace's role within it. In a strange way, these two events are something of a catalyst for one another - Thrace's admission to Adama forces him to realize how precious his remaining son is to him, and how difficult a father he must have been ("[[You Can't Go Home Again]]", "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]"); Adama's ability to admit his love and respect for his son enables the elder Adama to overcome his anger towards Thrace after her admission to him ([[Act of Contrition]]).

===Kobol and Earth===
At the start of the exodus from the Twelve Colonies, Adama uses the legend of Earth as a means of binding the remnants of humanity together with a single hope. Unfortunately, this later causes the greatest rift in leadership within the Colonial fleet. Following the accidental discovery of [[Kobol]], which [[Laura Roslin|President Roslin]] sees pre-ordained in scripture, Adama finds himself confronted by what amounts to a court-martial situation. With members of his crew -- and the Vice President, [[Gaius Baltar]] -- trapped on the surface of Kobol, Adama orders Kara Thrace to use a captured [[Cylon Raider]] to destroy a Cylon [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]] in orbit above Kobol. However, President Roslin persuades Thrace to use the Raider to go to [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]] to retrieve the [[Arrow of Apollo]] at [[Delphi]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]).

This action results in Adama terminating Roslin's presidency in what amounts to a coup, only to find [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]] forced to arrest [[Lee Adama]] for mutiny while on ''[[Colonial One]]'' to remove President Roslin from office. With Thrace gone, Adama dispatches [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Lieutenant Valerii]] to destroy the basestar over Kobol. While the mission is successful, Valerii's Cylon programming reveals itself and shoots Adama at point blank range as he thanks her for her work on her return ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]). Adama's injuries are left untreated when a second basestar suddenly appears, forcing ''Galactica'' and the Fleet to perform an emergency [[FTL|Jump]].

Unfortunately, the chaos of the situation leaves ''Galactica'' without the same Jump coordinates as the Fleet, and the battlestar is separated in another area of space ([[Scattered]]). Worst of all, Dr. [[Cottle]], the Fleet's only doctor, is on one of the other ships in the Fleet. While Lieutenant [[Felix Gaeta]] determines how to return to the Fleet, and as ''Galactica'' is raided by a [[Cylon Centurion]] boarding party, the [[Layne Ishay|medics]] on hand stabilize the commander's condition long enough for Dr. Cottle to return. After a lengthy and risky operation, Cottle repairs the damage to Adama's body.

Adama rests unconscious while Tigh declares martial law to counteract Roslin's supporters in the [[Quorum of Twelve]]. Roslin escapes the ship with Lee Adama's help, and hide throughout the fleet as Adama regains consciousness and returns to command. Roslin gains sufficient support and returns to Kobol, convincing over a third of the Fleet to Jump to Kobol in search of the path to Earth. Adama is incensed as, being a man with generally secular beliefs, he never truly believed in the existence of Earth of the Pythian scriptures and (incorrectly) feels that most others believe the same.

Adama's calm exterior barely holds back the helplessness and rage he feels over the betrayal of his son, Sharon Valerii, Roslin, and over 18,000 others that left with Roslin for Kobol. While at first Adama takes a similar stance to Tigh in assuming a hard military posture, a conversation with Petty Officer [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]] helps him realize again (as Dualla and [[Billy Keikeya]] showed him before the [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage]]) that, despite the problems, the Fleet is his family, and the family must stay together. He orders the remainder of the Fleet to prepare to return to Kobol ([[Home, Part I]]).

Adama's attitude about Roslin and her quest changes from anger to genuine interest as he and his command staff track the likeliest location where Roslin's group searches for the [[Tomb of Athena]]. Rather than being skeptical about Roslin's visions, for instance, Adama begins to take them as face value, considering that data just as useful as the maps in front of him. Realizing that only he could reach out to Roslin to reunite the Fleet ("It was always between us anyway"), Adama leaves ''Galactica'' to Tigh's command while he, Tyrol, [[Margaret Edmonson|Racetrack]], and Keikeya head to Kobol to find Roslin's group.

Adama greets his son, Lee, with raised guns, accidentally surprising Roslin's camp. Adama hugs his son and warmly greets Roslin and Thrace. However, on seeing the Caprica-based version of Sharon Valerii, Adama examines her eerily, grabs her by the throat and hurls her down to the ground while the camp tries to explain the reason why she was in camp. "I want you to die" was all that Adama could express before his pent-up anger became more physical, the exertions from his recovery catching up to him. He rolls off Valerii with aid, clutching his chest. Adama is given an explanation but remains understandably wary of this new copy of the [[Humano-Cylon|Cylon agent]].

Adama and Roslin have a talk unlike any other they've shared in the past, both calling each other by their first names, casually. Adama tells Roslin that he forgives her for her actions in the past weeks, and leaves the apology stand even when Roslin casually notes that she wasn't asking for his permission. When Roslin speaks of the [[Resistance (movement)|resistance]] on Caprica and whether ''Galactica'' and her Fleet should have returned to fight instead of leaving from Ragnar Anchorage, Adama rejects the notion, saying he did not come to Kobol to "navel gaze" at what they could have done. He thanks Laura for saving him, his son, and the Fleet, for if he did not follow Roslin's advice to leave the system before the fight at Ragnar, he believes they would have all died.

Moments after discovering the entrance to the Tomb of Athena, Caprica-Valerii raises a gun at Adama's chest while [[Meier]], one of [[Tom Zarek]]'s men, raises his gun to Lee Adama, who is now aiming at Valerii. Meier was attempting an assassination of both Adamas to allow Zarek more political power after Roslin's demise, trying to use Valerii as a pawn to remove attention from Zarek. Immediately, Valerii turns her gun to Meier and fires. Lee Adama picks off a second shooter, while Valerii explains to Adama that she is fully aware of who she is and that, unlike her ''Galactica'' counterpart known as Boomer, she does not have hidden protocols or programming. She surrenders her weapon to Adama. Adama's feelings on Valerii remain guarded as she is placed in the special cage created for her counterpart on their return to ''Galactica.''

Adama enters the Tomb with Roslin, Lee, Kara, and Billy, the rest left guarded by Tyrol. The group successfully activates the map with the [[Arrow of Apollo]] and gain useful information on the true whereabouts of Earth. Back on ''Galactica'', Adama firmly buries the hatchet between he and Roslin publically by introducing Roslin as the President for a speech to members of the fleet, and leads a formal, unified ovation by applause for Roslin ([[Home, Part II]]).

===Common Ground===

To help undo the damage to the military's reputation in the Fleet after the "''[[Gideon]]'' incident", President Roslin and Adama give a [[Fleet News Service]] reporter, [[D'anna Biers]], unlimited access of the ship to interview the crew and watch their work and off-shift behavior. Bier's resulting documentary is very moving, and Adama gives his approval to release it for airing to the Fleet, who believes it shows the best of his crew, "warts and all". Adama is not aware that Biers is a Cylon infiltrator that has also passed out intelligence to her counterparts on Caprica of the existance and pregnancy of Helo's copy of Sharon Valerii ([[Final Cut]]).

''Galactica'' is beset by mysterious malfunctions throughout the ship. Worse, crew morale is very low, with no relief, little true recreation, and a sense of no future plagues many throughout the ship. Even the stoic and reliable Lieutenant [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]] vents his frustration to the surprise of everyone in [[CIC]]. Deck Chief [[Galen Tyrol]], fighting his own sense of hopelessness, begins a project to build a replacement fighter from spare parts. Over time, others in the ship join in on the "pet project". Despite the need to stop the increasing malfunctions, Adama is reluctant to stop work on Tyrol's project unless necessary as it gives the crew a creative outlet. Some time later, after the new fighter completes its maiden flight, Adama and Roslin christen the new stealth fighter, the [[Blackbird]]. Adama tells Roslin that the crew's nicknaming the fighter "Laura" was a honor they wanted to do for the President, given her service to them as well as their feelings about her illness.

Adama solicits the help of the incarcerated Caprica copy of Sharon Valerii, ordering [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] to show her a portion of the Cylon virus code found in the ship's computers. She reacts in shock and tells Adama that this code was part of a [[logic bomb]] that will take over the battlestar, killing its crew and directing its guns at the remaining Fleet to destroy it. She also strongly believes, as did Adama, that this bomb was an indication of an imminent Cylon attack. Lieutenant Gaeta and [[Gaius Baltar]] devise a way to rid themselves of the bomb, but during this process, the battlestar would be practically defenseless. Adama needs a way to stop the incoming Cylon forces and asks President Roslin for advice on trusting the second Valerii for help. She responds by asking him to find common ground between Valerii and himself, despite his prejudices about her. In a desperate plan, Adama brings Valerii to CIC, where she uses her humanoid Cylon brain to send a virus back to the massive Cylon fleet that appears, deactivating every single enemy fighter. ''Galactica's'' Vipers easily destroy all enemy Raiders without a single casualty ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).

===The Discovery of Battlestar ''Pegasus''===

The sudden discovery of the [[Mercury class battlestar|advanced battlestar]] ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', commanded by Admiral [[Helena Cain]], is a very welcome event for Adama and his war-weary crew, and surely brings additional hope to the civilian fleet. But Cain's command staff--as well as her crew--seem oddly power-hungry, angrily disciplined, and, perhaps, the perfect reason why the Cylons might decide the human race should be annihilated. Adama, a soldier accustomed to taking orders, puts on a stoic face as Cain assumes command of the fleet. Not even Adama's relaxed smile convinces Laura Roslin of Adama's attitude when she asks how he was handling his change in command. Her guess was correct: something about the Admiral bothers Adama, but he is reluctant to discuss it. Adama follows his own truism about the Admiral: stick to what you know, until you find something better.

Adama's troubles with Cain begin with her choice to furnish supplies only to ''Galactica'' and not the civilian fleet, a point that Roslin hopes Adama would be able to correct. After Cain reads Adama's ship logs of the last 3 months, Cain reassigns Lieutenant Thrace and his son, Lee, to her ship. She explains that Adama was too close to his son, that Starbuck was an insubordinate officer that required structure, and that Adama had let military discipline become lax. Adama's stony face barely hides his anger, which he partially releases on Apollo and Starbuck as he orders them without commentary to transfer to ''Pegasus.'' Cain makes some valid observations about lax discipline on ''Galactica'', so Adama grudgingly accepts her re-shuffling of personnel.

Matters with Cain's unusually totalitarian command style come to a head when Cain orders her "Cylon interrogator", Lieutenant [[Alistair Thorne]], to interrogate the normally cooperative [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Caprica copy of Sharon Valerii]]. Thorne's method of "interrogation" was sexual assault. Lt. Agathon and Tyrol discover the truth of Thorne from members of ''Pegasus''' crew. They rush to Valerii's cell and stop Thorne, accidentally killing him. Adama is given assurances by Cain that the arrested men will be tried fairly on her ship, but she refuses to assemble a tribunal to conduct the trial.

A few hours later, Adama is told that Agathon and Tyrol were tried and convicted--and solely by Cain herself. Cain claims that wartime status granted her extra powers, but Adama disagrees, realizing that his fleet wasn't on an offensive posture and requires cooperation and not military rule, as ''Galactica'' could have done long ago at Ragnar Anchorage by fighting to win and abandoning the civilian fleet. Adama's stony acceptance of taking orders from the renegade admiral immediately ceases. He orders the alert Vipers and a Raptor--filled with [[marines]]--to head to ''Pegasus'' to retrieve his men, and Cain deploys her Vipers. Adama is headed into yet another fight for the survival of his Fleet--his family--against a vastly superior force, and it doesn't seem to matter to him one wit if it is the Cylon fleet, or Cain's hostile, warmongering forces ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

The standoff between the battlestars fortunately doesn't begin with an exchange of any fire from battlestars or fighters. However, Adama watches as his Vipers dance with ''Pegasus'' Vipers in a deadly game of "chicken", with ''Pegasus'' pilots attempting to force ''Galactica's'' fighters to fire first, which, by rules of engagement, would authorize return fire. Adama keeps silent, awaiting the inevitable collision or misfire that will start the bloodshed when Lt. Gaeta picks up what appears to be a [[Raider]] that manages to get ''very'' close to the Fleet without an earlier [[DRADIS]] alert. Picking up the surprise target as well, ''Pegasus'' fighters stop the chicken game and fly formation with Adama's fighters to intercept the target. The target turns out to be Kara Thrace in the [[Blackbird]], returning from her unauthorized but very successful self-appointed reconnaissance mission to the mysterious Cylon ship that trails the Fleet. Her sudden entrance allows a ''detente'' between the battlestar commanders, who meet on ''Colonial One''. There, President Roslin gives both commanders a harsh grilling and reminds them of the importance of the Fleet's survival and the intentions of the Cylon fleet following them. Adama appears actually chastized about the situation and remains quiet, except when Roslin patronizes Cain in saying that ''Pegasus'' would triumph in a firefight with ''Galactica'' ("I wouldn't count on that," he simply says). After Cain leaves, Roslin speaks with Adama privately and, to Adama's surprise, suggests that he kill Cain before she kills him and destroys the Fleet for her own wartime devices. Adama leaves to think about it, unsure if he could be an assassin.

Adama apologizes to the most unlikely person--the copy of [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Sharon Valerii]], who was sexually assaulted by ''Pegasus'' Lieutenant [[Alistair Thorne]]. While Valerii shows signs of shock and anger, Dr. [[Cottle]] acknowledges she and her unborn baby are mostly unharmed. Adama asks Cottle to see that ''she'' is OK (not calling her "it") and orders her returned to her cell after her care. Afterwards, Adama visits the port [[Hangar Deck|hangar deck]], appearing as to get Viper flight status, but in reality is there to learn a little about [[Peter Laird]], his interim deck chief from ''Pegasus''. Realizing he's not military, Adama asks more from [[Cally]], who says that rumors indicate that Laird was from a civilian fleet once guarded by ''Pegasus''. A conversation with Col. Tigh and Jack Fisk confirms the worst: ''Pegasus'' abandoned its civilian fleet, but not without conscripting many civilians into military service and stripping supplies and fuel from it, leaving what remained of the ships to fend for themselves. Resistance was quelled by shooting the families of those who would not leave with the battlestar, Fisk said.

Adama's relationship with Roslin grows closer. He visits her in bed, not looking at all well, but jovial nonetheless. Adama inquires of her unusually "bloody-minded" attitude towards Cain; Roslin replies that as long as Cain survives, his future and that of the Fleet is at risk. He asks if she needs anything, and Roslin humorously suggests she'd like a nice, young [[Humano-Cylon|Cylon body]] to replace her own. When Adama says he can't picture her as a blonde, Roslin smiles and says that he'd be surprised. As he leaves, wiping a tear from his eye as he turns back to the president, Roslin reminds him to watch his back, and do what he has to do.

After a briefing on the upcoming battle to destroy the [[Resurrection Ship]] and its fleet, attended by Cain and Adama, Adama requests permission to speak more with Kara Thrace on the battle tactics, which Cain grants as she returns to ''Pegasus''. Adama dismisses his son, cryptically telling him "Stay focused, son," while he asks the unusual from Thrace. After the battle, Adama asks her to enter the ''Pegasus'' CIC, with Lee Adama by her side to cover her, and to shoot Admiral Cain in the head. Little does Adama know that Admiral Cain has planned a similar assassination attempt with her XO and several members of her Marine division.

Lieutenant Lee Adama visits his father by volunteering for a courier run between the battlestars. The elder Adama doesn't want to talk too much about the operation, but is happy to see him. Adama continues his new pattern of seeking advice from unusual places by inviting his copy of [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Sharon Valerii]] to his quarters to ask her why the Cylons hate the humans so much. She can't answer the question directly, but asks him to remember something in the speech he gave at the decommissioning ceremony ([[Miniseries]]): Has humanity asked itself ''why'' it deserved to survive, given all its failings?

With the battle to destroy the Resurrection Ship a success, Adama has an opportunity to have Starbuck shoot Cain, but takes the advice of Valerii again and chooses to be better than what humans have become. Strangely, Cain also aborts her attempt on Adama's command and life, something that greatly relieves [[Jack Fisk]], who laughs out loud and invites the crew for a drink.

Cain's fate is sealed not by Adama but [[Gina]], the captured and tortured Cylon agent, who shoots and kills the admiral in her quarters. After Cain's funeral, on ''Colonial One'', President Roslin, looking very frail, promotes Adama to Admiral, joking that some people may not think she knew much about military protocol, but that she knows that a commander of two or more capital ships should be an admiral. Adama smiles, says that he's never given up hope about getting admiral rank, but stopped chasing them after a while. Roslin appears ready to retire and has trouble standing, when Adama helps lift and steady her. In a pleasant surprise, now-Admiral Adama takes Laura Roslin's face in hand and gives her a simple, affectionate kiss, which she returns to smiles on both faces. [[Billy Keikeya]] helps the president back to her quarters while Adama's smile turns into sadness over Roslin's illness.

Shortly after the Battle of the Resurrection Ship, it is clear that Roslin is nearing death. In her final moments, Roslin orders Adama to kill Caprica-Valerii's [[unborn child|Hera]]. Adama cannot bring himself to terminate the pregnancy, and it is shortly revealed that it is a good thing he hesitated: Baltar finds a cure for Roslin's cancer within the child's blood. Roslin is saved and Adama is visibly pleased that she has pulled through. Meanwhile, Adama becomes aware of the [[Demand Peace]] movement among the fleet. Adama meets with [[Royan Jahee]], the leader of the movement, and attempts to explain that the Cylons don't want peace, they want too annihilate every lving human being. Jahee doesn't believe Adama, and the meeting ends with the two men in no different places than where they started.

I am Kraetos. (I was BMS until 2/7/2006, and am refered to as such on some talk pages.)

Battlestar Galactica has become near religion for me. I watched a small part of the miniseries when it premiered, but found it dark and disturbing (It was the scene on Raganar Anchorage). I did not watch again until I saw the episode [[Scattered]] on the Sci-Fi channel and was completley enraptured. I proceeded to buy the first season and the miniseries, and watched it all in a single weekend.

I watch BSG every Friday night at 10, or soon after (thanks to the magic that is TiVo). Until I have seen the newest episode, I exist in a trancelike state from which I cannot be aroused.

I am a student, and therefore suffer from sleep deprivation in the morning and insomnia at night. My peak hours for editing here are generally between 11 PM and 1 AM EST.

I firmly believe that the quality of this Wiki can only remain strong if the community behind it remains strong as well. Newbies can blossom into superb contributors if given time. [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers|Bite the newbies]] and you might end up like this fellow to the left.

My favorite episodes are [[33]] and [[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]. My favorite characters are [[Lee Adama|Lee]] and [[William Adama]].

I own an aging PowerBook G4, probably going to be replaced with a MacBook within 6 months, named Bia. (Sister of Kraetos, personification of force)
I also own an Alienware Aurora 7500 named Kraetos.

Kraetos is a Greek demigod (son of a Titan and a Goddess) and the personification of strength. The only beings more powerful than Kraetos are [[User:Joe Beaudoin Jr.|God]] and [http://www.chucknorrisfacts.com/ Chuck Norris].

1. Protect the newbies/maintain the community. I watch the recent changes page and attempt to moderate discussions BEFORE they get heated on various talk pages. <br>
2. Upload caps for missing characters and new episodes. I use the iTunes store to do this, until they come out on DVD. For DVD captures, I use SnapzPro X and the Apple DVD player. I've recently discovered a way to connect my DVR to my Mac, so as of [[The Captain's Hand]] I'll be able to get caps AS the episode is airing. <br>

I was tempted to copy an excerpt from an argument he had here to Scifi.com. In it, the person Merv was having a discussion with accused him of not being a dedicated enough BSG fan (having not seen TOS), and therefore of basically having too much of a life outside of BSG. I nearly fell out of my chair laughing, as his biggest detractors over at skiffy usually claim quite the opposite. In the end, this RFA isn't a popularity contest. (Though I may be biased, having been selected as an admin with the fewest popular votes ever.) The RFA is about whether or not Merv will use the mop as it is intended to be used. I believe he shall. That being said, I caution Merv to remember that if he thought he was under scrutiny before, it will be doubly so now. Your detractors/enemies are likely to look for any excuse they can find to try to take your mop away. Well, as a prolific and well known Sciffy poster, and I am sure my reputation precedes me even here, where I have not truly participated, as much as lurked. I feel compelled to make the case FOR support of "The Frenchmen". And let me tell you why. He asked me. Who am I to have any true sway among the wiki? I have truly only contributed to one other wiki in my life. I am a wiki reader, lurker, user... Im not a contributor. Further, the Frenchmen and I have had our rounds and bouts on Skiffy... and even some not nice words he said about me. Yet, he had the courage to ask for my vote. #While Merv has made vast improvements in the past months, I still do not believe he is administrator material. An administrator has many tasks, however, one of the most important administrator tasks is conflict resolution, since is it a task that not everyone can do. I believe that Merv has demonstrated that he has a holier-than-thou attitude, especially towards newbies. He is an EXCELLENT contributor, of that I am more than sure. However, he can continue to contribute in the professional methodology and high-volumes he has shown, without being an administrator. So that's not why I'm voting oppose. I'm also not voting oppose regarding Merv's experiences head-butting with other users. I think he's come a long way with that and been able to think about his communication with others here from new angles. I think he deserves some recognition for that, as well. Just in case it's not clear from my tone, I think that point of view is not a good one for a user to have, let alone an admin. Biers appears to be more of a tabloid rumor-and-innuendo format news journalist and less of the conventional Fleet journalist types such as [[James McManus]].

Biers is investigating the shootings of four civilians during a military intervention authorized by Colonel [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] in what she dubs for sensationalism's sake as the ''"[[Gideon]] massacre"''. Her efforts to interview ''[[Galactica]]'s'' crew are constantly thwarted by military protocol and stonewalling by Commander [[William Adama|Adama]], who privately acknowledges Tigh's mistakes, but seems adamant not to render any punishment.

The social and political repercussions of the ''[[Gideon]]'' incident become too much for President [[Laura Roslin]] to ignore. The citizens of the Fleet are becoming critical of ''Galactica'' and wonder if the military places itself at a different level of self-responsibility than its citizens. Working with Commander Adama, President Roslin invites Biers aboard ''[[Colonial One]]'' and proposes something interesting to the reporter. Adama and Roslin will give Biers "unlimited" access to ''Galactica'' and her crew to create a documentary on what it is like to be the last defensive group of the Twelve Colonies, as well as allowing her to interview many of the crew on the ''Gideon'' incident.

Biers' is initially given a tour of the battlestar by Petty Officer [[Anastasia Dualla]], but finds the nuts-and-bolts technology and layout information boring. She and her photographer, [[Bell]], prefer to record and interview the candid moments of ''Galactica's'' crew--even going so far as entering the senior pilot's quarters, where a scantily-clad [[Lee Adama]] finds the intrusion most unwelcome.

Biers begins in-depth personal interviews with many of the crew, including Dualla, Lieutenants [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]], [[Margaret Edmonson]], [[Kara Thrace]] and [[Karl Agathon]], as well as attempts to interview command staff such as Colonel Tigh. Of all the interviews, she desperately wants to ask Tigh many questions on his decisions in the ''Gideon'' incident, but Tigh stonewalls and evades her questions, partially from his annoyance in the situation, but also because he is distracted by a mysterious death threat left in his quarters: a verse of a poem from a Caprican poet known as [[Kataris]].

Biers appears to be in the right place at the wrong times throughout her documentary filming. She captures the growing behavioral problems with Lieutenant [[Louanne Katraine]], a Viper pilot who later crash-lands her Viper after failing a routine landing and is found to have been abusing [[stims]] because of the pressures she endures from the loss of her family and friends as well as the demands of being a Viper pilot. Biers also captures the sabotage to a [[Raptor]] that was intended to shuttle Colonel Tigh to ''[[Cloud Nine]]'' for some downtime for the colonel as well as a bit of business on orders of Commander Adama.

As Biers passes through [[sickbay]] during her documentary, she makes a highly unusual find. [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Sharon Valerii]] is alive and being treated in sickbay. The existence of this second copy of the known [[Humano-Cylon|Cylon infiltrator]], who was thought to be dead by [[The Fleet (RDM)|The Fleet]], is too much for Biers not to document. However, Commander Adama intercepts Biers and demands that she give him the intriguing footage of Valerii. Biers pointedly asks why Adama is harboring this known Cylon in secret aboard the ship, and suggests that news of Valerii's existence could ruin Adama in the eyes of the Fleet. Adama evades the question and redirects it at Biers, asking whether exposure of this second Valerii's existence to the Fleet would do anyone any good. She surrenders a tape to Adama, but unknown to him, Biers retains the actual footage of Valerii in secret for herself.

Biers gets an opportunity to document what happens in [[CIC]] during a Cylon Raider raid at the Fleet.

As Biers is editing the documentary, reviewing the footage from the senior pilot's quarters, she sees [[Joe Palladino]] on his bunk with a copy of a book by Kataris. Biers' knowledge of Palladino's involvement in the ''Gideon'' incident immediately determines that Palladino is the likely suspect in the death threats. She and Bell grab their photo gear and rush to Tigh's quarters to find that Palladino has bound Tigh's wife, [[Ellen Tigh|Ellen]] and threatens to shoot Colonel Tigh with a sidearm. Tigh manages to talk the agitated lieutenant down and disarm him, where [[Colonial Marine Corps|marines]] take the wayward Viper pilot away.

Bier's final documentary is reviewed by Tigh, Adama, and President Roslin. While Tigh is initially perturbed at the documentary's unshiny look into Colonial military life, Adama finds it a good story, "warts and all." The documentary is broadcast to the Fleet, with Biers concluding the documentary with a rousing monologue:

Never lie down in the road and let the truck run them over. They wake up in the morning, put on their uniforms, and do their jobs. Every day, no pay. No rest. No hope of ever laying down the burden and letting someone else do the job. There are no relief troops coming, no Colonial fleet training new recruits every day. The people on ''Galactica'' are '''it'''. They are the thin line of blue separating us from the Cylons."

A group of humanoid Cylons on Caprica--copies of [[Aaron Doral]], [[Number Six]], another [[Sharon Valerii]] copy and one other person, hidden from view initially in the theater where they sit, watch Biers' documentary (including, surprisingly, the footage of the Sharon Valerii copy in sickbay that Adama had presumably confiscated) with great interest. The Valerii copy chuckles in surprise at the survival of her pregnant doppleganger on ''Galactica'', and the others are very intent on monitoring the pregnancy and survival of the Cylon/human hybrid fetus. The mysterious 4th person in the theater is revealed: a second copy of D'anna Biers, which notes that the Raiders that intercepted ''Galactica'' were used to relay the documentary and its forbidden footage of Valerii from themselves to a nearby Cylon fleet for transmission to Caprica, at the price of some loss of Cylon material.

Another version of Number Three was also in charge of "Downloading" [[Cylon agent]]s, and presided over the returns of both [[Caprica-Six]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Sharon]].

Yet another Three (or possibly one of the previous two) enlisted "Caprica-Six" to help "reintegrate" Sharon (Three and Six were previously friends from Six's own reintegration). Though her motives were outwardly altruistic, her conversation with them was filled with double meanings, trying to subtley nudge them into exposing that they were "corrupted". Her real goal was to assess the risk factor of these "Heroes of the Cylon" to the status quo, due to their different perpectives on the war and the genocide, and [[boxing|box]] their consciousnesses when she became convinced they were a threat. Three was later trapped with both of them beneath a garage after capturing [[Anders]]. To her surprise (or perhaps not), Six deduced the truth. Shortly thereafter, Three resolved to kill Anders in spite of previous agreement, at which point "Caprica" proved Three's assessment correct, and smashed in the skull of her former ally ("[[Downloaded]]").

Her ultimate goals may have originally been to turn the civilians against ''[[Galactica]]'', but this plan may have been later abandoned. There's no cliffhanger, really. The Cylons win, humanity is occupied and the ships of the fleet are essentially empty with everyone down on Cylon-occupied New Caprica. The show is completely different from here on out. Cloud Nine is gone (which from a production standpoint makes sense--- no need for a planet-like ship when they have an actual planet) and all the leads but Lee, Adama and possibly Sharon are on the planet, hoping not to be killed by their new Cylon overlords. The Galactica and the Pegasus require about 5,000 crew between the two ships, but at the time of Baltars election, were only carrying about 4,000. However, it is made clear that the two battlestars are operating with skeleton crews - so lets say for the sake of arguement that thats 1/2 of normal, which would put the combined crews at 2,500. There are other ships in the defense fleet above New Caprica, looks to be about ten additional ships, if I remember correctly. Lets say they need 600 crew each (see [[The Fleet (RDM)]], but are also running with skeleton crews, which puts them at 10 x 600 = 6,000/2 = 3,000. Combine that with the battlestars crew, you get 5,500. Add that to 39,000 and you get 44,500. Compare with the pre-New Caprica pop of 49,000 and it looks like about 4,500 died in the Nuclear blast. As for "Greenleaf", it has been mentioned like 3 times in dialog, but this is in fact a reference to Legolas from Lord of the Rings (both Firefly and Lord of the Rings appear to have named something after Legolas, independently of each other). :Probably not. Even though WE all know that it's gone, it's still there for seasons 1 and 2 (well, most of 2 anyway...). Thus anybody reading about it from a season 1 or earlier 2 standpoint would still see it as existing. I think that's the reasoning behind episodic info being present tense. As for tense about the stuff that happened in the year gap on New Caprica... I assume present tense would be best just to avoid a situation where you're switching back and forth between past and present tense along the same timeline. ::::I already forsee many problems with tense that are going to crop up thanks to the gap. We can't say "if we saw it on screen as it happened, its present, but if we saw it in a flashback, its past" any more, because that means, for example, the events of day 200 are in present tense, but the events of day 400 are past tense. While changing tenses to be relative to individual articles would make the articles clearer, having tense be relative to the Miniseries is easier to maintain on a large scale. It is also the status quo, and would be a pain to change every article.

==Caprica Copy==

A second copy of this model approaches the Caprica [[SAR]] team, telling them that the Cylons had left the Colonies. What he did not tell them — until Tyrol blew his cover upon his arrival at ''Galactica'' — was that he was a Cylon.

Due to this copy's discovery, the Fleet copy was arrested as well and thrown in ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'''s brig. Laura Roslin had ordered them to be spaced, after Caprica-Cavil informed her and Admiral Adama that the Cylons had made two mistakes: one the attack on the Colonies and the pursuit of [[the Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). It is unknown whether or not the copies were executed.

Like his Fleet counterpart, the Caprica copy also expresses doubt in the active involvement of divine forces in the real world, although he focuses his contempt on the Cylon religion. Based on his conversation with the Fleet copy, this viewpoint appears to be shared across the entire model.

==Analysis==
The Cavils (their number was not given) appear to be very radical thinkers, and demonstrate a unity among the model not seen in any other. They seem to have realized some time ago the same things [[Caprica-Six]] needed her hallucination of Baltar to discover. Judging by this, the Cavil copies were probably among the first to flock to Caprica's banner. It would appear that the Cavils on ''Galactica'' lied; the Cylons apparently occupied New Caprica at the end of the episode. However, Cylon plans may have changed after the second Cavil was stranded on ''Galactica''.
