== Where is the fleet headed? ==

All the way back in [[Home, Part II]] several major characters finally figured out roughly where in space [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] was.

So, is [[The Fleet (RDM)|The Fleet]] headed for Earth or not? Why doesn't Adama just start jumping away in the general direction of Earth? Not a straight line, of course, and slowly enough not to risk damaging FTL drives. But it seems so obvious that getting away from the Cylons should be a top priority. Yet episode after episode goes by without any word, even in passing, that The Fleet is headed towards Earth or anywhere else in particular. Why is that? It might be neat if the route to Earth took The Fleet back the way they came...

I understand this might not really be ''Reference desk'' material, but I'm having trouble finding a better place to ask. Also, this question is asked between the (first showing of the) episodes [[Sacrifice]] and [[The Captain's Hand]], so may be answered later.

Personally, at the end of the entire series I'd have The Fleet finally reach Earth and discover ... Earth was where the Cylons spent the 40 years between the two wars. Who says we need a happy ending? --[[User:JohnH|JohnH]] 17:42, 15 February 2006 (EST)

:Interesting idea, but the Colonials know where the [[Cylon homeworld]] is. --[[User:Redwall|Redwall]] 18:29, 15 February 2006 (EST)

:A) Earth is far away from the Twelve Colonies, but apparently the [[Cylon homeworld]] is relatively nearby; the Colonials know where it is, etc.
:B) We saw a script read-through in David Eick's video blog for "The Captain's Hand" (which will air naught but two days from now), and in it Jamie Bamber (Apollo) is reading through dialog about them running searches and trying to triangulate stellar coordinates based based around the Lagoon Nebula, etc. Yes, this will be adressed in the very next episode. --[[User:The Merovingian|The Merovingian]] 20:21, 15 February 2006 (EST)

: One of the plot points from [[Galactica 1980]] was that the Fleet might find Earth only to discover Earth was woefully unprepared to handle the Cylons. Some of the same thought might be playing out here. The Colonials have no certain way to know Earth's technology level or military footing. Even if Earth is at a similar or more advanced technological level to the Colonies, simply waltzing into our solar system and saying, "Hi! We're your lost cousins and, oh, by the way, there's a ravening horde of synthetic people on our tails and they'll probably hate you just as much as they hate us, so...um...help?" probably wouldn't go over very well. I also don't recall anything being said (even after Earth stopped being just something Adama made up to give them all hope) about looking for Earth to help them out. They need to lose the Cylons first. That seems to be the priority (at least, up until [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]], where it looks like the stakes will be changing a bit).--[[User:UncleMikey|Uncle Mikey]] 17:08, 9 March 2006 (CST)
== Lay down your burdens ==

Hi There,

Can someone tell me what is the signification of "Lay down your burdens" in the context of this episode of Galactica?

Thank you very much,

Fazil

:I believe this quote comes into play towards the end, when one of the characters (maybe Roslin's aide?) mentions how tempting the thought is of being able to "Lay down your burdens" and stop running from the Cylons by settling permanently at the habitable planet. (A quick Google shows that it's also apparently the title of an Amy Grant song, but hopefully that's just a coincidence.) --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 15:33, 9 March 2006 (CST)
::I know this is horribly late, but the phrase is also used in Biers's documentary in "Final Cut" --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 16:21, 11 January 2007 (CST)
== Battlestar Galactica Magazine Discontinued? ==

Hello, just wondering if you know why the Battlestar Galactica Magazine is being discontinued by Titan Magazines after just seven issues. I'm hoping that it's not be due to low readership or something and thought you might know why. It's got great articles and insights to the series and I love it just as much as I love this wiki site and the various blogs and other websites I visit daily for my BSG fix. Great job on this site by the way. Sorry, I'm rambling. Avidicus -- [[User:Avidicus|Avidicus]] 04:17, 26 October 2006 (CDT)

:Hi, Avidicus. I remember hearing of the magazine's cancellation. I don't know why it would be. However, I have some guesses. The first one is that, unlike shows like ''Stargate'', ''Battlestar'' isn't a show that plays as much as a SF show than a drama. As a result, I suspect that the usual SF fans that buy the official magazines for other shows just aren't there in numbers. Also, the show is a mystery and little extra technical and pseudo-technical stuff is poured out. So there's not a lot more to talk about other than the characters without giving things away in the overall plot. --[[User:Spencerian|Spencerian]] 06:41, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
::Whats really annoying is that I emailed them about getting a copy of each edition as back issue and noone ever got back to me. I think they would have been useful to look at --[[User:Mercifull|Mercifull]] ([[User talk:Mercifull|Talk]]/[[Special:Contributions/Mercifull|Contribs]]) 18:51, 23 February 2007 (CST)
== Want to pass info to someone that can update a wiki page ==

I'm not a techie person so won't even try to edit a page, but I wanted to pass along some information to someone that could update the reference section on the Karl Agathon page.

While reading the eBay auction description for Helo's dog tags, I figured out why he has the third serial number of 384162. This serial number, which was given to QMX for his replica tags, was not an accident. It came off of his original miniseries tags, when he was an expendable character in the miniseries and had yet to be named Karl Agathon.

Quote from eBay site: "Tag says J. Helo and serial number 384162"
== Biography ==
=== Background ===
'''Boxey''' is the nickname for Troy given by [[Serina]], his biological mother. Originally from [[The Twelve Colonies (TOS)|Caprica]], he is a survivor of the holocaust.

=== Flight from Caprica ===
He was quite fond of a [[daggit]] known as [[Muffit]], killed by falling debris when the daggit headed toward them. Along with his mother, he went to the ''[[Rising Star (TOS)|Rising Star]]'' and, while there, mourned for Muffit and refused to rest. To appease the boy's anguish, [[Apollo (TOS)|Flight Commander Apollo]] of the ''[[Battlestar (TOS)|Battlestar]] [[Galactica (TOS)|Galactica]]'' had talked to Doctor [[Wilker]], an electronics expert, into giving the boy a prototype of an automaton-generated daggit, the [[Muffit II]]. Previously, Apollo attempted to give him one of his ranking pins as Boxey seemed to respond to him as a fatherly, [[Warrior]]-like figure ([[Saga of a Star World]]).

[[Image:Pyramid.jpg|thumb|left|Boxey plays Pyramid ([[The Lost Warrior]]).]]

Boxey was tasked with training the "Muffit II" to act as a real daggit. It was made easier as Wilker scanned his image into the daggit's memory. Although Boxey was initially confused, he began to recover from the devastating loss ([[Saga of a Star World]]). But the worst was yet to come, as his mother was soon to die at the hand of a Cylon ([[Lost Planet of the Gods]]).

Boxey was involved with the planetary expedition to [[Carillon]], a planetoid practically brimming with [[tylium]]. During this expedition, he was the first to be "captured" by the planetary inhabitants, the humanoid-insect race known as the [[Ovions]]. Serina, Apollo, and [[Jolly (TOS)|Flight Sergeant Jolly]] were also surrounded and brought to the boy thanks to the Ovion's queen, [[Lotay]].

The boy managed to get himself into entanglements due to the automated daggit, making his way to the lower levels of the mine underneath the chancery where everyone is made obese and senses made dull. Apollo and Starbuck, who stumbled upon the Cylons that were within the mine, freed [[Cassiopeia]] and rescued the boy from the carnivorous Ovions ([[Saga of a Star World]]).

Boxey, with his newfound pet, bore witness to the [[Seal]]ing of Serina and Apollo. He also bore witness to his mother's entrance in the Fleet's Viper corps, although her tour of duty was short lived. Along with his father, Boxey mourned the death of his mother, which they managed to work through eventually ([[Lost Planet of the Gods]]).

=== After Serina's Death ===
When Boxey's father, Apollo, went missing and presumed unreachable, no one had the heart to tell him about his father. [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] and [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]] took to babysitting the tyke, who managed to get away with the spoils of [[pyramid (TOS)|pyramid]] from [[Greenbean]], Jolly and other pilots. Unfortunately, he was unable to fully enjoy the [[mushies]] as he was suddenly torn away from the game and care of the warriors from a fretful Cassiopeia, despite defending their unique approach at babysitting ([[The Lost Warrior]]).

Boxey seemed to visit [[Core Command]] without chastisement a variety of times, including the time where the ''Galactica'' lead the Fleet from the [[Cyranus Galaxy]] through asteroid dust ([[The Long Patrol]]).

When the [[Cylons (TOS)|Cylon]]-manned [[Ravishol Pulsar]] threatened the Fleet, Apollo handed him a medallion his father gave him after graduating from the Colonial Military Academy before going off on the mission. He seemed to be quite curious, explaining to his father that he'd never seen snow before, although he forbade it. When the [[shuttle]] sent by the ''Galactica'' crashed into Sector Hekla of ice planet [[Arcta]], Boxey was discovered along with his daggit in the [[snowram]]. Boxey was later secreted in the [[Theta|Thetas]]' underground city after they were saved by Thetas lead by [[Ser 5-9]] ([[Gun on Ice Planet Zero]]).

Boxey also partook in the mission to obtain [[agro|agron]] seeds from the long-forgotten [[agron colony]] of [[Sectar (planet)|Sectar]], although he stayed behind on the shuttle with Flight Sergeant Jolly ([[The Magnificent Warriors]]).

[[Image:Boxeymuffit.jpg|thumb|right|Boxey and his [[daggit]] ''[[Muffit II]]'']]

Along with Lieutenant Boomer, [[Athena (TOS)|Ensign Athena]], and other ''Galactica'' personnel he and Muffit were trapped in the [[rejuvenation center]] while the ship was ablaze, thanks to kamikaze [[Cylon Raider|Cylon raiders]] packed with [[solonite]]. His pet, fortunately, managed to save not only them but also a downed firefighter ([[Fire in Space]]).

Other peers in the ''Galactica'''s instructional programs influenced Boxey's decisions and behaviors, especially during [[Iblis]]' visitation to the Fleet. He took to heart that his father was a coward who wouldn't face Boomer and his Blue Team since they were said to defeat Apollo and Starbuck's Red Team, should there be a game. Saddened by this, he managed to persuade Boxey that this was not so -- Apollo subsequently played [[Triad (TOS)|Triad]] with the Blue Team. Unknown to anyone, Boomer was possessed by Count Iblis, and thus won the game due to Iblis' feats of "magic" ([[War of the Gods]]).

Boxey was later a part of the instructional period that discussed about why the "[[Earthlings]]" ([[Michael]], [[Sarah]], and their children) weren't coming out of their vessel that his father and Starbuck picked up on their patrol ([[Greetings from Earth]]). Evidently, his intuition and drive would lead him to the future, and may very well be a part of the Fleet's future as a whole…

Actor '''Dirk Benedict''' played the womanizing, cigar-smoking, card playing and incredibly skilled Colonial Warrior known as Lieutenant [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] in the [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Original ''Battlestar Galactica'' series]].

Born in Montana in 1945, Benedict (his last name a stage name given to himself after enjoying a serving of Eggs Benedict) was an excellent high school athlete and aspiring musician.

His acting career began with an odd bet with his college football team members, which landed him in a leading role in a show at Whitman College in the state of Washington, and starring in many other productions. Graduating from college with a degree in Music, Benedict decided to pursue acting as a career, under the tutelage of John Fernald. Benedict played many roles in summer stock, performing many roles in classic plays by Shakespeare and Ipsen.

Benedict moved to New York and found supporting roles in several Broadway shows, including the leading role in the play, "Butterflies Are Free" with the late [[Wikipedia:Gloria Swanson|Gloria Swanson]], who portrayed his mother.

Benedict found himself in small but interesting roles in some TV series, including work in "Hawaii Five-O" and the lead in a one-season show by TV show mogul Aaron Spelling called "Chopper One." Benedict left acting for a few years in a lifelong desire to visit every state in the U.S.

Benedict's casting as "Starbuck" in "Battlestar Galactica" made him nationally famous. He made an appearance on the final episode of "[[Galactica 1980]]", entitled "[[The Return of Starbuck]]." This episode is considered by fans of the Original Series as the only significant contribution from "Galactica 1980," a show otherwise considered [[canon|noncanonical]] by many.

[[Image:ATeamCylon.jpg|right|thumb|Dirk's A-Team 'Faceman' meets a Cylon.]]
After these series, Benedict found popularity again as the character of Templeton "Faceman" Peck on the long-running early-1980s TV series, "The A-Team," produced by "Galactica"'s owner, Universal. In the show's opening credits in later seasons, a [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Centurion]] is shown walking by Benedict's character, who gives an peculiarly humorous look of recognition of the robot as an in-joke to the actor's past role as Starbuck.

Benedict returned to the stage after "Galactica" as well, gaining fame in many popular roles there, and played guest and starring roles in a handful of TV movies and series.

As casting for the [[Tom DeSanto|Singer/DeSanto Continuation Project]] of a new "Battlestar Galactica" series in 2001 began, Benedict was slated to play an older Starbuck in the new series. However, the project folded due to Bryan Singer's movie directing comittments and delays on the TV industry caused by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Benedict (with fellow Original Series actor [[Richard Hatch]]) loaned his voice talents as the Original Series Starbuck to the [[Video Game|Battlestar Galactica video game]] that appeared in 2003. The characters of Starbuck and Apollo are available as wingmen pilots for the game player, using a game cheat.

[[Image:Starbucks at starbucks.jpg|thumb|The "Starbucks" meeting over coffee at Starbucks.]]
Benedict has yet to be cast in the [[Battlestar Galactica (RDM)|Re-imagined Series]]. He was considered for the role of the [[Armistice Officer]], but passed on the project. In another instance, he was considered to play a cigar-smoking [[God]] of the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] in a dream sequence with [[Gaius Baltar]] in a Season 1 episode, but the idea was later dismissed. The original "good mood" towards the new series resulted in a meeting with [[Katee Sackhoff]] at a Starbucks coffee shop as seen in the [[Battlestar Galactica: The Lowdown (Mini-Series)|mini-series Lowdown]]. Benedict passes a cigar to Sackhoff in a kind of "passing the torch" ceremony.

However, in an article from Dreamwatch magazine entitled "Starbuck: Lost in Castration" [http://www.dirkbenedictcentral.com/home/articles-readarticle.php?nid=5], Benedict (writing in May, 2004) expresses his true opinion on the dark negativity and weaker characterization of the male characters in the Re-imagined Series, as well as the overall commercialization of the series. Benedict also criticizes the changes made to Starbuck as a character archetype into [[Kara Thrace]] (which Benedict derisively calls "Stardoe" throughout his commentary). One passage reads:

::''"One thing is certain. In the new un-imagined, re-imagined world of Battlestar Galactica everything is female driven. The male characters, from Adama on down, are confused, weak, and wracked with indecision while the female characters are decisive, bold, angry as hell, puffing cigars (gasp) and not about to take it any more."''

The final passage reads:

::''"And if you don't enjoy the show <nowiki>[. . .]</nowiki>, it's not the fault of those re-imaginative technocrats that brought them to you. It is your fault. You and your individual instincts, tastes, judgement. Your refusal to let go of the memory of the show that once was. You just don't know what is good for you. But stay tuned. After another 13 episodes (and millions of dollar of marketing), you will see the light. You, your instincts, your judgement, are wrong. McDonald's is the best hamburger on the planet, Coca-Cola the best drink. Stardoe is the best Viper Pilot in the Galaxy. And Battlestar Galactica, contrary to what your memory tells you, never existed before the Re-imagination of 2003.''

::''"I disagree. But perhaps, you had to be there."''

Benedict lives in Montana with his sons, George and Roland. At Galacticon, the 25th anniversary convention, Benedict revealed that he has a third son named John. Unknown to Dirk, John was born in 1968 and given up for adoption. They connected for the first time when John was an adult.

Benedict found himself in small but interesting roles in some TV series, including work in "Hawaii Five-O" and the lead in a one-season show by TV show mogul Aaron Spelling called "Chopper One." Benedict left acting for a few years in a lifelong desire to visit every state in the U.S.

'''John Colicos''' (b. December 10, 1928, Toronto, d. March 6, 2000, Toronto) played the traitorous [[Baltar (TOS)|Lord Baltar]] in the [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Original "Battlestar Galactica" series]].

Before ''Battlestar'', John Colicos was well known in the science fiction community in his role as Commander Kor, the first Klingon seen in the original series of ''[[Wikipedia:Star Trek|Star Trek]].'' The character of Kor was reprised in the third ''Star Trek'' series, ''Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'' for three episodes: "Blood Oath", "The Sword of Kahless", and "Once More Unto the Breach".

Colicos, like Canadian-born actor [[Wikipedia:William Shatner|William Shatner]], was a Canadian and a well-received Shakespearian actor. Colicos is also well known as Dr. Mikkos Carridine from "General Hospital".

Colicos' final acting appearance was his reprise of Baltar in the mock trailer ''[[Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming]]'', aired at many science fiction conventions in 1999.

Colicos was married to Mona McHenry from 1956 to 1981, when they divorced. They have two children, one of them actor Nicholas Colicos.
While defending [[The Fleet (TOS)|the Fleet]] from a raid, he and another flight sergeant, [[Jolly (TOS)|Jolly]], realize that the [[Cylons (TOS)|Cylons]] are attacking the [[agro ships]]. However, this realization is belated, and the agro ships are destroyed, although one agro ship manages to survive the engagement intact sans its crops ([[The Magnificent Warriors]]).
==Biography==

Anne Kathleen Maloney was born September 6, 1953, in New York, to parents June Lockhart and Dr. John Maloney. She was raised in Brentwood, California. Anne is a fourth generation performer. Her great grandfather, John Coates Lockhart, was a professional concert singer, and was once in the 48th Highlanders' regimental band as well as the Kilties Band in Canada. Her grandfather, Gene Lockhart and grandmother, Kathleen Lockhart both acted as well. They appeared together along with her mother June Lockhart in the original 1938 MGM classic, ''A Christmas Carol''. Her mother is most well known from the television series ''Lassie'' and ''Lost in Space''.

== Career ==

'''Anne Lockhart''''s career started at a very young age. Her first work was at age four, when she starred in ''T is for Tumbleweed''. This short subject film was nominated for an academy award. She spent time with her mother around the set, where she would learn about the workings of the business. She even appeared in several episodes of Lassie. She had no doubts that she wanted to follow in her family's footsteps.

Her first movie was "Dora" in ''Jory'' in 1972. At age 18, she played the daughter of Joan Crawford in 1972 television series ''The Sixth Sense''. It was Joan's last acting appearance. A popular rumor is that Anne turned down the role of "Laurie Strode" in John Carpenter's 1978 thriller ''Halloween'', which was later cast for Jamie Lee Curtis. Mr. Carpenter says that he wanted her for the role, but that she turned it down. Anne does not remember being being contacted by John Carpenter, nor being offered the role. It is possible that one of her agents turned it down on her behalf without telling her.

She was initially chosen by Glen Larson, who sent her a very preliminary script, for a role in the 1978 television series ''Battlestar Galactica''. She rejected the role initially, as the character wasn't that strong. Later, Glen wrote a new part just for her, with a much stronger character named "Sheba". After reading the first 25 pages of the script "The Living Legend", she accepted immediately. The show ran for one season.

She was a favourite of Glen Larson, and appeared in many of his other television series including ''The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, B.J. and the Bear, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century'' (where she played two characters, "Jennifer/Leila Markeson"), ''The Fall Guy, Knight Rider'' and ''Airwolf''. She did two episodes of ''Magnum P.I.'': in one episode she plays the younger version of her moms character, in the other she plays a younger version of herself.

She reunited with Noah Hathaway (who played "Boxey" in ''Battlestar Galactica'') in the movie ''Troll'' (1986), which also included her mother (June turns into Anne during the movie). She reunited with Donald Bellisario (''Battlestar Galactica'''s producer and writer) in episodes of ''Airwolf, Quantum Leap'' and ''JAG''. Anne worked again with Dirk Benedict (who played "Starbuck" in ''Battlestar Galactica'') as "Sylvie" in his movie ''Cahoots'' (2001) which she also co-produced. They also worked together on ''War of the Worlds'', which Anne produced and won a REP Award for "Best Production of a Drama" (1998). She appeared as the sister of another ''Battlestar Galactica'' alumni, Jane Seymour (who played "Serina") in ''Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman''.

She starred with Desi Arnaz Jr. (son of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball), Melanie Griffith and Robert Carradine in the movie ''Joyride'' (1977), and co-starred with Michael Moriarty in the horror movie The Dark Tower (1987).

She appeared with ''Star Trek'' actors George Takei (Sulu) and James Doohan (Scotty), as well as Randy Quaid in the monster spoof ''Bug Busters'' (1998).

Most recently, she played "Miss Connors" in the 2004 movie ''Big Chuck, Little Chuck''.

Anne's other notable film work include ''Slashed Dreams, Just Tell Me You Love Me, Young Warriors, E.T., Risky Business, The Oasis, A Dog's Tale, Daybreak'' and ''Disconnected''. Her other notable television credits include ''Happy Days, Barnaby Jones, Emergency, Police Story, CHiPs, The Incredible Hulk, Voyagers, Murder, She Wrote, New Love American Style, Simon & Simon, Walker, Texas Ranger'' and ''L.A. Heat''.

Anne has also done hundreds of commercials, including multiple spots for Crest Toothpaste, Hi Point Coffee, Shoney's, and McDonalds. She was also spokeswoman for KFC, Osco and Savon drugstores, as well as Acme, Skaggs, Star, and Buttery markets. Other commercials include Campbell's Soup, Joy Dishwashing Liquid, Polaroid Film, 7 UP, Folger's, Hertz and Embassy Suites.

In 1986 she married assistant director Adam C. Taylor, the son of actor Buck Taylor (''Gunsmoke''), and grandson of actor Dub Taylor. They had two children, Carly and Zane. Adam died in an accident in 1994.

Anne is an expert horsewoman. She was won championships in cutting, reining, team penning, and barrel racing. In 1983, she helped found Pro-Celebrity Rodeos, a children's charity that has raised over 5 million dollars.

She is highly in demand providing voice work, having done over 100 television shows and movies. The movies include ''The Fifth Element, Starship Troopers, Back to the Future I and II, Antz, Prince of Egypt, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Predator II, Project X (where she impersonates chimps), The Rocketeer, The Three Musketeers, Lethal Weapon 3, Scenes From a Mall'' and ''Turner and Hooch'' and she recently did voice work for the new Disney animation ''Chicken Little''. Television voicework include ''West Wing'', the 2003 series ''Dragnet, The Cosby Mysteries, Diagnosis Murder, Goldie Gold, Spider Man and His Amazing Friends'' and ''Thundarr the Barbarian''.

She currently lives in Southern California. Most of her time is now spent with family, doing voice work, and raising money for her children's charity though rodeos and convention appearances. Anne's daughter has just started college, and she feels the loss of a child leaving the nest. She appears regularly with the Kingsmen Shakespeare Festival in Thousand Oaks, California, which she helped found in the 1990's as well as with the Santa Susana Repertore Theatre Company. She has said that she loves live acting, and really enjoys doing Shakespeare. Some of her favourite roles were "Mrs. Cratchit" in ''A Christmas Carol'', "Calpurnia" in ''Julius Caesar'', "the Nurse" in ''Romeo and Juliet'', "Mistress Quickly" in ''The Merry Wives of Windsor'', and "Queen Margaret" in ''King Richard III''.

Lorne Chain Greene (February 12 1915 – September 11 1987) was a Canadian actor best known for playing signature roles on the television shows ''Bonanza'' and ''Battlestar Galactica''.

==Early Life==

Lorne was born in [[wikipedia:Toronto|Toronto]], [[wikipedia: Ontario|Ontario]] [[wikipedia:Canada|Canada]] to immigrant parents. He was the second child born to Daniel and Dora Greene, though sadly his older brother died in infancy. He went to high school at Lisgar Collegiate Institute and while there was cast in the play ''Les Deux Sourds'' as one of the deaf characters that shouts throughout the play.

He attended Queen’s College in Kingston Ontario as a chemical engineering major, though his growing love for acting caused him to eventually change his major to free his time for drama projects. The college had no drama department, only a drama guild which Lorne was highly active in. He graduated in 1937 and moved to [[wikipedia: New York City|New York City]] to continue honing his craft.

=="The Voice of Canada"==
After a short stint in the [[wikipedia:Royal Canadian Air Force|Royal Canadian Air Force]], Lorne retuned to Canada and, due to a lack of acting jobs, found a job as a radio announcer for the [[wikipedia:Canadian Broadcasting Corporation|Canadian Broadcasting Corporation]] (CBC), due to his deep, booming voice. He was notably the only Canadian to ever win NBC’s top radio broadcasting award. During World War II, he was given two nicknames: "The Voice of Canada" due to his popularity and recognizable voice, and also "The Voice of Doom", because of his voice and the bad news from the front that he delivered through the radio.

==Television fame and Bonanza==
Lorne moved back to New York in 1953 to continue his acting career, and landed several roles on Broadway before breaking into films with 1954’s [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047494/ ''The Silver Chalice''].

He appeared in movies and television shows throughout the 1950s. An appearance on the television show ''[[wikipedia:Wagon Train|Wagon Train]]'' caught the attention of the producer of a show called ''[[wikipedia: Bonanza|Bonanza]]''. His performance in ''Wagon Train'' and his subsequent performance as Big Brother in a CBS production of [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0712166/ ''Nineteen Eighty-Four''] resulted in his being offered the part of Ben Cartwright, a part which became his most recognizable role. The show ran from 1959-1973.

==Beyond Bonanza==
After Bonanza, Lorne appeared in several television programs, most notably as Commander [[Adama (TOS)|Adama]] in [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|the original ''Battlestar Galactica'']] and its short-lived spinoff series, ''[[Galactica 1980]]''. Greene became popular for his Alpo dog food commercials. Always an animal lover, he was vice chairman of the American Wild Horse Association and honorary chairman of the Wildlife Federation. He wrote a book titled [http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0671240129 ''The Lorne Greene Book of Remarkable Animals''] and was the host of a television show titled [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0302147/ ''Lorne Greene’s New Wilderness''].

He also was the host of the [[wikipedia:Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade|Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade]] from 1963-1972. Additionally he helped create and promote [http://oghs.hanc.k12.wv.us/clubs/acadgame/Games/Propaganda.htm ''Propaganda''], a game that teaches players how to analyze the soundness of statements made by politicians and pitchmen of every stripe.

In 1985 Lorne was awarded a star on the [[wikipedia:Hollywood Walk of Fame|Hollywood Walk of Fame]].

==Death==
Greene died in 1987 after a bout of pneumonia and was buried at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City, California. He was survived by his wife, Nancy Deale, and three children: Gillian, and twins Belinda and Charles.
== Biography ==

'''Colonel Tigh''' is the executive officer (XO) of the Battlestar ''Galactica'' and is a close personal friend of [[Adama (TOS)|Commander Adama]].

=== Background ===

In his younger days, Tigh flew a [[Viper (TOS)|Viper]] with Adama ([[Saga of a Star World]]).

=== After the Cylon Attack ===

[[Image:TighPartyLost1.jpg|thumb|left|Tigh orders the party to be in full swing ([[Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I]]).]]

Despite his reputation for being strict regarding regulations and discipline, Tigh reveals a lighter side when he covers for [[Greenbean]] in front of [[Council Security]]. After security leaves, Tigh light-heartedly reprimands Greenbean, before ordering that [[Apollo (TOS)|Apollo]]'s bachelor party be in full swing when he and [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] return from their patrol. Colonel Tigh is more of a sceptic than Adama, and is quite concerned when Adama orders [[The Fleet (TOS)|the Fleet]] to head into the [[magnetic void]] ([[Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I]]).

When [[Cylons (TOS)|Cylon]] [[Raider (TOS)|Raiders]] attack while Adama is on [[Kobol]], Colonel Tigh commands ''Galactica'' in his absence. Tigh is surprised when the previously ill pilots report for duty during [[Battle of Kobol (TOS)|the battle]]. He points out that they are barely able to stand, to which [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]] replies that it is fortunate that the Viper is flown in the seated position ([[Lost Planet of the Gods, Part II]]).

When Adama is reluctant to send out a patrol to search for the lost Apollo, Tigh is able to convince him otherwise. Boomer and Starbuck are already waiting in the [[launch tubes]], and successfully find Apollo and guide him back to ''Galactica'' without attracting the attention of the Cylons ([[The Lost Warrior]]).

Adama volunteers Colonel Tigh to help him cover [[Athena (TOS)|Athena]]'s shift in [[Core Command]] so that she can go on a date aboard the [[Rising Star (TOS)|''Rising Star'']] ([[The Long Patrol]]).

On Colonel Tigh's suggestion, Adama orders the Fleet to maximum speed (rather than moving at the speed of the slowest ship) as they neared the [[Ravishol pulsar]]. They hoped to make the ships of the fleet more difficult targets by increasing the spacing between the ships, and reduce the collateral damage inflicted should one of the ships take a hit from the pulsar. Fortunately the pulsar is destroyed before the Fleet gets into range ([[The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part II]]).

After Cylon Raiders destroy two of the three [[Agro Ship]]s, Colonel Tigh personally inspects the [[Agro Ship 9|only one that survives]]. He learns that the fleet's entire crop supply has been destroyed in the attack and that the fleet's supply of seed has been exhausted and must be somehow replenished. This prompts Adama's mission to [[Sectar (planet)|Sectar]] to trade an [[energizer]] for the needed seed ([[The Magnificent Warriors]]).

Picking up a great deal of civilian Cylon radio traffic, Tigh reports that a large concentration of Cylons are nearby. Adama orders the Fleet to a halt, awaiting word from the recon patrol. Before the patrol can return, Colonel Tigh reports a large contact approaching. It appears to be a battlestar, and a communication comes in on Fleet Com-Line Alpha (which is only used between Colonial war ships). Adama believes the message to be a hoax, as they are the last remaining Colonial war ship. Adama is delighted to learn that the message is from [[Cain (TOS)|Commander Cain]], and the sensor contact is [[Pegasus (TOS)|''Pegasus'']].

The honeymoon does not last long, however. Adama is forced to relieve Cain of command of ''Pegasus'' when he refuses to redistribute fuel from his ship to the other ships in the Fleet. Adama appoints Tigh to take command of ''Pegasus''. Tigh takes his place on the bridge of ''Pegasus'', and insists on beginning the fuel transfer over [[Tolan]]'s objections. Before any transfer can take place, though, Cylon Raiders attack. Cain has his command returned to him, and the crew of ''Pegasus'' cheers when they hear the news. Tolan asks Tigh not to take the cheers personally. Tigh understands and asks, "How can you fight a living legend?" Colonel Tigh resumes his role as executive officer aboard ''Galactica'' ([[The Living Legend, Part I]]).

As a Cylon attack approaches, Adama and Tigh begin to realize that the Cylons are attacking in force. They order the ship's compartments to be sealed, to prevent a hull breach. All squadrons are launched to defend ''Galactica''. The Raiders are not fighting back, and two manage to slip through. One is destroyed near the bridge. Despite closing the blast shield the bridge sustains heavy damage, and Adama is critically wounded. Tigh orders Omega to call for [[Salik|Dr. Salik]] to take care of Adama, and assumes command. The other Raider explodes against the port [[landing bay]], causing explosions fires throughout the ship. Tigh realizes that the Raiders were likely packed with [[Solonite]] or some other high explosive, in order for them to have exploded with such force. The explosions have damaged the ship's automated firefighting systems. A plan to extinguish the fires using Vipers firing [[boroton]] fails. Tigh puts [[mushies]] near the air ducts in hopes of helping [[Muffit]] find them. Muffit appears out of the Core Command air ducts, and they attach a note and some lifemasks to him so that he can ferry them back to the trapped survivors in the [[rejuvenation center]]. Muffit completes his task, delivering the lifemasks and the note. The fire is successfully extinguished by Apollo and Starbuck, and Adama recovers from his successful surgery ([[Fire in Space]]).

[[Image:TighCelestra.jpg|thumb|right|Commander Kronus berates Colonel Tigh for drinking before going on duty ([[Take the Celestra]]).]]

After a hard-fought game of [[Triad (TOS)|Triad]], Apollo, Boomer, and Starbuck are informed by Colonel Tigh of an emergency meeting in the war room. [[Bojay]]'s patrol has gone missing. The warriors are deployed to investigate, but Tigh doesn't like the looks of the seismic readings, and is afraid Bojay's patrol has crashed. The patrol discovers the wreckage of a ship, and returns with [[Iblis|Count Iblis]]. Colonel Tigh is immediately suspicious of Iblis. Tigh later informs Adama that Iblis had visited Core Command, and Adama is furious. Tigh is in Core Command with Adama when the [[Ship of Lights|mysterious lights]] begin appearing around the Fleet ([[War of the Gods, Part I]]).

Colonel Tigh presents [[Kronus|Commander Kronus]] with the [[Star of Kobol]] during an award ceremony, while Adama gives the speech. At the reception afterwards, Commander Kronus berates Colonel Tigh for drinking before going on duty. Tigh accepts the criticism, and respectfully leaves the reception early to get to his work. Later in Core Command, Starbuck requests permission to take his Viper aboard the ''[[Celestra]]'' under the pretense of a "maintenance scan" of his Viper's electronics. Tigh isn't convinced, but grants permission to the warrior. He also informs [[Cassiopeia]], who reclaims the concert tickets from Starbuck in the Viper bay ([[Take the Celestra]]).

Command Adama and Colonel Tigh are alerted by Apollo, Starbuck, Cassiopeia, and Sheba of the [[Gamma frequency]] signal they receive in the [[Celestial chamber]]. A Viper patrol is launched to investigate, and discovers a Cylon [[Basestar (TOS)|basestar]]. Adama is tired of running, and wants to launch an assault against the basestar, in a bid to escape the Galaxy without Cylon pursuit. Colonel Tigh briefs the Viper pilots on the capabilities of the basestar, painting a grim picture of the situation. The [[Battle at Galaxy's Edge|attack]] is successful, and ''Galactica'' escapes the galaxy, hoping to find [[Earth]] ([[The Hand of God (TOS)|The Hand of God]]).

== Notes ==

* [[Terry Carter]] was originally a candidate for the role of [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]].

* Colonel Tigh's counterpart in the new series is [[Saul Tigh]] (who also has problems with drinking on the job).

* Tigh does not appear in the sequel series [[Galactica 1980]] and is not referenced.

* Tigh and Adama's early relationship is expanded on in the Battletstar Galactica comic, and in the recent video game.

* Col. Tigh is President of the Twelve Colonies in [[Richard Hatch]]'s [[Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming|''The Second Coming'' trailer]] and Hatch's Battlestar Galactica novels.
== Biography ==

=== Background ===

'''Adama''' is the commander of the great military vessel [[Battlestar (TOS)|battlestar]] [[Galactica (TOS)|''Galactica'']], commander of the [[The Fleet (TOS)|refugee fleet]], and military commander of the evacuees of the [[The Twelve Colonies (TOS)|Twelve Colonies]]. He is also the spiritual leader of the surviving Colonists, leading the quest for [[Earth]].

He has a daughter Lieutenant [[Athena (TOS)|Athena]] and son Captain [[Apollo (TOS)|Apollo]] who feature in the series. His wife [[Ila]], and his second son, [[Zac]], are killed in the [[Cylons (TOS)|Cylon]] [[Battle of Cimtar|attack on the Twelve Colonies]].

Adama is a native of the planet [[The Twelve Colonies (TOS)#Caprica|Caprica]], which is where he graduated from military academy.

Early in his career Adama was involved in a parapsychological research project at the [[Colonial Military Institute]] ([[War of the Gods, Part II]]). He flew with his executive officer Colonel [[Tigh (TOS)|Tigh]] in their younger days, and later served as an aide to Commander [[Kronus]] aboard Battlestar ''[[Rycon]]'' ([[Take the Celestra]]).

As well as being a career military officer, Commander Adama is also a member of the [[Quorum of Twelve (TOS)|Quorum of Twelve]], the governing body of the Colonies.

=== The Peace Conference ===

Adama is mistrustful of the Cylons at the time of the [[Cimtar Peace Accord|Peace Conference]] to end the 1,000 year [[Thousand-Yahren War|Cylon War]], and as a result ''Galactica'' is the only battlestar to survive the Cylon sneak attack. Despite the destruction and great personal loss, Adama is able organize the survivors in an escape from the Cylons and lead them on the search for Earth.

Even as the Fleet is leaving their home system Adama immediately encounters resistance with the Quorum. Sire [[Uri]] presents [[Borallus]] as a destination, as [[The Fleet (TOS)|the Fleet]] lacks the supplies to reach [[Carillon]]. Adama insists that Borallus is too obvious, and is surely a Cylon trap. Apollo suggests a shorter route to Carillon through the [[Straits of Madagon]].

Once at Carillon, the council tries to convince Adama to disarm the Fleet. They agree to let the people decide at an award ceremony Sire Uri has organized for Apollo, [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]], and [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]]. Adama secretly conspires with Colonel Tigh to send non-essential crew to the ceremony dressed as [[warrior]]s, so that they would have a fighting force ready in case of a Cylon attack. The Cylons do [[Battle of Carillon|attack]], crushing Sire Uri's ceremony as well as the efforts to disarm the fleet ([[Saga of a Star World]]).

=== Discovery of Kobol ===

Adama is pleased when he learns that Apollo plans to be [[seal]]ed to [[Serina]]. When Apollo and Starbuck discover the [[magnetic void]], Adama researches the ancient texts, and believes he has discovered a description of the same phenomenon in an account about the discovery of [[Kobol]]. With the [[Viper (TOS)|Viper]] pilots ill, Adama orders [[shuttle]] pilots to begin training as Viper pilots. He doesn't realize that by doing so he has called up Serina for Warrior duty, much to Apollo's chagrin. Adama sends out the newly trained Viper pilots on a vital mission, destroying a Cylon outpost and escorting a medical shuttle to obtain information about the mysterious illness. Adama's strategy is vindicated when the mission succeeds without any Colonial losses. As [[Baltar (TOS)|Baltar]]'s [[Basestar (TOS)|basestar]] catches up with [[The Fleet (TOS)|the Fleet]], Adama manages to evade him by turning the Fleet into the magnetic void ([[Lost Planet of the Gods, Part I]]).

[[Image:AdamaChoke.jpg|thumb|left|Adama chokes Baltar ([[Lost Planet of the Gods, Part II]]).]]

Apollo and Serina are sealed, with Adama presiding over the ceremony. During the ceremony, Kobol's star appears, leading them out of the void and to the ancient world of Kobol. The planet has ruins and pyramids. Adama chooses a site for a camp, and posts guards even though the planet is supposed to be dead. Adama explores the ruins with Apollo and Serina. Adama suspects the ruins are [[Eden]], the largest city on Kobol and the first to fall. Adama recognizes the seal of the [[Ninth Lord of Kobol]], the last leader of Kobol before the thirteen tribes went to the stars. Adama hopes to find information about where the thirteenth tribe went, to learn something that might help them find the location of Earth. They find the entrance to the [[Tomb of the Ninth Lord of Kobol]]. Serina recognizes that Adama's Quorum medallion is the same as the seal on the entrance. Adama uses his medallion as a key, opening the door. Shortly after they enter a trap is sprung, but using the medallion again releases them. They enter a room that appears to contain a sarcophagus. Shortly after they enter, Baltar enters the through a different door. Adama throttles him, trying to choke the life out of the traitor until Apollo pulls them apart. Baltar tries to sell Adama on a scheme to return to the Cylons, appearing to have surrendered to him. ''Galactica'' could then launch a surprise attack and cause maximum damage. Adama is not buying it, saying that their future lies in front of them, along the path of the thirteenth tribe. Baltar scoffs at this, believing that Earth is a myth. Adama has Baltar taken away, and begins studying the tomb.

Starbuck is released from Cylon captivity, and returns to report the presence of the basestar just outside ''Galactica'' sensor range. Apollo drags Baltar back to the room with Adama, informing Adama of the impending threat. Adama refuses to flee, hoping to find something about the thirteenth tribe and Earth. Kobol's star begins to shine again, and the reflection off Adama's medallion causes the sarcophagus to draw back, revealing a staircase. Baltar dashes down the staircase and everybody chases after him. Before he can be stopped, Baltar tosses the lid off of the real sarcophagus of the Ninth Lord of Kobol, and seizes the scepter out of the hand of the mummy. This activates a trap, sealing Baltar, Adama, Apollo and Serina in the tomb. Inside the tomb, Adama discovers the information he is searching for. He reads about the last days of Kobol, but as he gets to the part about where the thirteenth tribe went, the Raiders begin to bombard the temple. The inscriptions are destroyed. An explosion opens a hole out of the tomb, but also crushes Baltar beneath a large stone. The Colonials are forced to leave Baltar behind as they escape the destruction ([[Lost Planet of the Gods, Part II]]).

=== Fleeing the Cylons ===

When Apollo is pursued by a group of Raiders, Adama is forced to hold Starbuck and Boomer from helping Apollo. Adama realizes that Apollo is leading the Raiders away from the fleet, and that his distress calls are meant for Cylon ears and are not genuine. While Apollo is gone Adama plays the role of the grandfather well, telling Boxey stories of Earth. Adama allows Starbuck and Boomer to go on patrols to later look for him, and they manage to pick up his signal and return him to ''Galactica'' ([[The Lost Warrior]]).

Adama reopens the dining rooms aboard the [[Rising Star (TOS)|''Rising Star'']], promising a reservation there for any pilot willing to test the new Recon Viper. Starbuck takes him up on the offer. Adama is saddened to order the destruction of the Recon Viper when it begins emitting signals that indicate that Starbuck is no longer in control of it. [[Cassiopeia]] identifies the signals as Aerian merchant code, allowing Adama to countermand the destruction order. When Starbuck is returned to the fleet Adama hosts a dinner aboard the ''Rising Star'', welcoming his warrior back and the new members of the Fleet ([[The Long Patrol]]).

During their journey, Adama feels the Fleet is being herded into a particular area of space. A recon patrol eventually discovers the Cylon plan, when they encounter the [[Ravishol pulsar]]. The pulsar is powerful enough to destroy ''Galactica'' with a single burst. Unable to attack it from space, Adama hatches a plan to send a commando team to destroy the pulsar from the ground ([[The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part I]]).

Despite no indication on the success or failure of the commando team, Adama is forced to order the Fleet forward in order to stay ahead of the Cylons. The commando team succeeds just before ''Galactica'' comes into range of the pulsar, and the Fleet and ''Galactica'' are saved ([[The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, Part II]]).

Cylon Raiders destroy two out of the three [[Agro Ship]]s and damaged the third, forcing the Fleet to seek out a new source for seed. Adama wants to trade an [[energizer]] without Colonial markings for the seed on the planet [[Sectar (planet)|Sectar]]. Unfortunately for Adama, only [[Belloby|Siress Belloby]] has such an energizer. Adama meets with her in her quarters aboard the freighter ''[[Gemini]]'', and agrees to her terms. She gives him the energizer in exchange for courting her. She also insists on accompanying him on the mission to [[Serenity]], a small agro colony on the planet. Siress Belloby ends up being kidnapped by the [[Borays]]. Adama is unable to negotiate her release, until Starbuck strikes a bargain with the [[Nogow|leader of the Borays]]. Siress Belloby is unimpressed by Adama's negotiating attempts at releasing her, and lets him off the hook for having to court her. She informs him that what she needs is a "real animal" ([[The Magnificent Warriors]]).

After learning that Starbuck has been shot down over [[Antilla]], Adama orders Apollo and Boomer to go retrieve the warrior in a shuttle. He hopes that the shuttle might be able to slip in and rescue him without attracting any attention. Apollo and Boomer successfully return him to the fleet, after he helps the children to destroy the Cylon outpost and rescue their father ([[The Young Lords]]).

The Fleet is running low on fuel when ''Pegasus'' and [[Cain (TOS)|Cain]] arrive on the scene. Adama is delighted to have the help of another battlestar. Cain informs Adama that [[Gamoray]] is now under Cylon control. ''Pegasus'' has been harassing the planet for a while, but now that ''Galactica'' has arrived Cain feels they can launch an attack against the planet. Adama is not interested in attacking the planet, preferring instead to attempt to capture some [[Cylon freighter (TOS)|Cylon tankers]] to obtain the fuel. Cain destroys the tankers during the mission, forcing Adama to consider the attack. Cain refuses to redistribute fuel from ''Pegasus'' to the rest of the fleet, and Adama relieves Cain of command. After a Cylon attack against ''Galactica'', Adama allows Cain to assume command of ''Pegasus'' again, to help fight off the threat ([[The Living Legend, Part I]]).

They successfully repel the Raiders, and Adama meets with Cain to figure out how to best take advantage of the Cylons surprise at having to face two battlestars. Cain suggests a commando raid against Gamoray to take out the planetary defenses. Adama is worried that the basestars will attack the Fleet while they are refueling. They decide to send ''Pegasus'' to delay the basestars, while ''Galactica'' attacks the planet and secures the fuel. During [[Battle of Gamoray|the battle]], Adama fear's that Cain has failed to delay the Cylons when it appears the Raiders make it past ''Pegasus'' and continue towards Gamoray. When Cain is revealed to be attacking the basestars, the Raiders are recalled which successfully prevents them from engaging. Adama realizes that this is what Cain intended the whole time. Adama tries to convince Cain to break off his attack, but Cain is adamant. After ''Pegasus'' and Cain disappear, Adama welcomes [[Sheba]] as part of ''Galactica'''s family ([[The Living Legend, Part II]]).

During the suicide Raider attacks, Adama is critically injured in one of the explosions. He is taken down to the life sciences station, to be cared for by [[Salik|Dr. Salik]]. While he is being prepped for his surgery he suggests the idea of extinguishing the fire by venting the nearby air into space. Adama's plan works, and his surgery is successful ([[Fire in Space]]).

Bojay's patrol goes missing, and Adama briefs the crew about what is known about the disappearance. Adama is suspicious of [[Iblis|Count Iblis]], and orders a full medical scan. He is furious when Sheba brings Iblis into [[Core Command]]. Meeting with Iblis privately, Iblis reveals that he will lead the Fleet to earth under his own leadership. The [[Beings of Light]] appear, causing great distress to the Fleet. Adama tells the Fleet that they are not an immediate threat. Some of the members of the precautionary intercept of Vipers that he sends out disappear, causing him to recall the remaining fighters. Iblis makes his power play. He offers the Quorum of twelve three wishes to prove his power. The Quorum asks for the capture of Baltar, to be lead to Earth, and reserve the third for later. When Baltar arrives waving the white flag of truce, he is captured and taken before the council ([[War of the Gods, Part I]]).

The council finds Baltar guilty of treason, and sentences him to life imprisonment aboard the [[Prison Barge]]. One of the Council members moves that they immediately make Iblis their leader, but Adama still has reservations. He still wants to understand the mysterious lights, and the disappearance of the Vipers. When Count Iblis predicts Apollo will lose at Triad, Apollo considers forfeiting, as he fears that playing and losing will mean Iblis will gain more leverage against Adama. Adama convinces Apollo to play anyway. Adama is furious when he discovers that Core Command is understaffed. He learns that Count Iblis has ordered that officer curfews not be strictly enforced. He wants to speak to Iblis at once. Adama finds Iblis in the barracks, being assaulted by Apollo. He manages to restrain Apollo, saving Apollo's life according to Iblis. Adama confronts Iblis about the lights, but Iblis claims that he doesn't fear them. He claims to be above all laws, but Adama wonders if this is truly the case.

Alone in his quarters Adama practices some telekinesis that he learned while at the [[Colonial Military Institute]], before Apollo was born. His silverware bending used to drive [[Ila]] crazy. The powers he exhibits are the result of a people who can expect to live 200 [[yahren]] beginning to explore their potential. He speculates that a race that lives for thousands of yahren would be capable of things that would seem miraculous. He believes the mysterious lights are the angels that the ancient Colonials wrote about. Adama hatches a plan with Apollo for Apollo to return to the planet where Iblis was found to do some more investigation. Adama instructs Apollo not to think about the plan, as Iblis may be able to read the thoughts. Adama will shield the plan in his own mind by crowding it out with other thoughts, something he learned in his training at the Military Institute.

Iblis senses something afoot, and is able to read the minds of the flag officers to determine that Apollo has left in a shuttle. He goes to confront Adama. Adama claims that he does not believe in Iblis like the poor souls in the wreckage did. Iblis claims Adama will pay with a life more precious than his own. Adama welcomes Starbuck, Apollo, and Sheba back when they return. Sheba asks if they had been caught between a struggle between good and evil, and Adama replies this will always be the case, even if they find Earth. This prompts the trio to recite coordinates to Earth ([[War of the Gods, Part II]]).

Adama orders the [[Lunar Avion|terran shuttle]] to be brought aboard ''Galactica''. When they find the people inside statis chambers, he orders [[Wilker|Dr. Wilker]] not to interfere with the equipment, despite Wilker's persistent requests to try to figure it out. A power struggle with the Quorum of Twelve ensues, led by [[Geller|Sire Geller]]. Eventually the Quorum wins out, ordering the people to be removed from their shuttle. Before the orders can be carried out, a plan executed by the warriors allows the shuttle to escape, much to the embarrassment of [[Council Security]] and Sire Geller ([[Greetings from Earth]]).

Summoned before the Quorum, Adama is informed by [[Domra|Sire Domra]] that he is to receive the highest honor, the [[Star of Kobol]]. They also inform him that the emergency has passed, and that martial law will be ending. Adama disagrees, but they insist on returning the Fleet to civilian control. Adama will retain his vote on the council, as well as command of ''Galactica''. He will, however, be assigned an advisor from the council aboard ''Galactica'', [[Tinia|Siress Tinia]]. Baltar and several [[Eastern Alliance]] prisoners engineer a meeting with the Quorum. They capture the council, holding them as hostages in an attempt to secure their escape. After Adama is able to secure their successful release, as well as prevent Baltar from escaping, they agree to keep martial law in place ([[Baltar's Escape]]).

Separating from ''Galactica'' from the fleet, but leaving two squadrons of Vipers behind, Adama investigates the beacon signals they are receiving from Apollo and Starbuck's Vipers. Starbuck contacts ''Galactica'', informing them of an imminent Eastern Alliance missile attack against the [[Nationalists|Terran Nationalists]]. ''Galactica'' is able to shield the Nationalists and destroy the incoming barrage. [[Terra]] is saved, and the Eastern Alliance is forced to consider peace ([[Experiment in Terra]]).

Adama and the Quorum of Twelve decorate Commander [[Kronus]] with the [[Star of Kobol]], and award him with the command of additional ships. Kronus reminds Adama of the importance of strict adherence to regulation and discipline. Kronus later contacts Adama when [[Celestra|his ship]] develops a propulsion problem, but asks that Apollo not slow the Fleet down for him ([[Take the Celestra]]).

=== Escaping the Galaxy ===
[[Image:BaltarsBargain.jpg|thumb|right|Adama strikes a bargain with Baltar ([[The Hand of God (TOS)|The Hand of God]]).]]
Out at the rim of the galaxy, Adama is informed of the [[Gamma frequency]] signal. He orders a Viper patrol to recon the area when sensors are unable to yield any information. The Vipers discover a basestar, but manage to escape undetected. Due to the position of the basestar, a great deal of backtracking would be required if they were to avoid it. Adama is tired of running, and decides to go through the basestar, hoping to destroy it and secure a clean getaway out of the galaxy. Adama develops a plan that involves luring all the Raiders away with the Vipers, while ''Galactica'' flanks the basestar, hopefully taking it by surprise. Apollo has an idea to help guarantee the element of surprise. Apollo proposes that he and Starbuck use Baltar's Raider to infiltrate the basestar and disable its sensors. Adama is initially hesitant, but eventually agrees to the plan. In order for the plan to work, they need more detailed information about the basestar. Adama strikes a bargain with Baltar, agreeing to leave him on a habitable planet with supplies and a short-range radio.

Baltar briefs Starbuck and Apollo on the layout of the basestar. Baltar lets them know where to go, and how many guards there are, and their likely location. Apollo and Starbuck embark on their mission. Adama launches the Vipers, then takes ''Galactica'' around behind the basestar. Apollo and Starbuck succeed in their mission, allowing ''Galactica'' to [[Battle at Galaxy's Edge|get the drop on the basestar]]. With the basestar destroyed, the Fleet is able to safely leave the galaxy free of Cylon pursuit, heading towards what they hope will be Earth ([[The Hand of God (TOS)|The Hand of God]]).

== Notes ==
*Adama's name is a variation of the name [[Wikipedia:Adam and Eve|"Adam"]], the first man to be created according to the Bible in the [[Wikipedia:Genesis|Book of Genesis]]. Despite the origin of Adama's name, he functioned more like a [[Wikipedia:Moses|Moses]]-type patriarch as he led and defended the Fleet time and time again.
*Despite the fact that Moses never made it to his people's Promised Land, the character of Adama (as well as the actor) did return for the "[[Galactica 1980]]" series, when the Fleet finally reached Earth. Greene was one of two regulars that returned, the other being [[Herb Jefferson Jr.|Jefferson]] as a promoted [[Boomer (TOS)|Colonel Boomer]]. Greene also donned a Moses-like beard for "1980". See the [[Adama (1980)]] article for further information.
*[[Wikipedia:Adama|Adama]] (also known as Nazareth) is also the name of a large city in Ethiopia.
== Biography ==

'''Colonel Tigh''' is the executive officer (XO) of the Battlestar ''Galactica'' and is a close personal friend of [[Adama (TOS)|Commander Adama]].

=== Background ===

== Notes ==

== Biography ==

=== Background ===

=== The Peace Conference ===

=== Discovery of Kobol ===

=== Fleeing the Cylons ===

=== Escaping the Galaxy ===

== Notes ==

'''Herbert Jefferson, Jr.''' played [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]] as a Lieutenant on the original Battlestar Galactica series and as a Colonel on Galactica 1980.

==Early life and education==

Herb Jefferson Jr. was born on September 28, 1946 in Sandersville, Georgia and was raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. While he did theater production and sang in a choir with his father when he was growing up, Jefferson states he never wanted to be an actor until he worked for ABC television in New York (as the late Peter Jennings’ mail assistant.) While working for ABC he came into contact with the production of various live television shows. This inspired him to take acting classes at the Herbert Berghof Studios at night while he continued to work at ABC during the day. Eventually Jefferson landed roles in off Broadway productions. He enrolled in the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts and graduated with honors in 1969. He latter studied with renowned acting teacher Lee Strasberg (whose students included Marilyn Monroe, Robert DeNiro, Steve McQueen and Jack Nicholson) at The Actors Studio.

==As Boomer==

Jefferson played lieutenant Boomer on the original Battlestar Galactica during the shows 1978 season, being chosen from a field of fifty performers who auditioned. (The role of Boomer had originally been given to Terry Carter, latter cast as Colonel Tigh, who broke his ankle before shooting, which led to the role being re-cast.) Boomer was in many ways the third musketeer along with stars Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict, making up the core group of colonial warriors showcased during the series. In the latter series, Galactica, 1980, Boomer is shown as holding the rank of Colonel, filling the role of Colonel Tigh.

==After Galactica==

After the cancellation of Battlestar Galactica, Jefferson made guest appearances on popular television series such as “The Dukes of Hazard,” “TJ Hooker,” “Knight Rider” and “ER.” His more recent movie credits include the Ron Howard film “Apollo 13” and Wolfgang Peterson’s “Outbreak.”

In a 1998 Starlog interview, Jefferson expressed a willingness to participate in a revival of the original BSG if he were approached. The aborted revival of Battlestar Galactica, set to be produced by Bryan Singer and Tom Desanto for the Fox network, reportedly planned to feature Jefferson as Boomer in the pilot and as a recurring character.

Jefferson lives in southern California, has a daughter and appears at comic and game conventions. He has been involved with the California special Olympics for over 25 years, the Marine Corp toys for tots program and the California paralyzed veterans association.
