William "Bill" Adama, a veteran of the Cylon War, is the commanding officer of the battlestar Galactica, and the highest ranking officer left in the Colonial Fleet.

Background
*William Adama was born H5/21290 on Caprica, the son of Joseph Adama and Evelyn Adama and raised in Qualai, a small coastal community (Hero). His father was an attorney specializing in criminal defense and civil liberties (Litmus, Hero). His mother was an accountant (Hero).
*Adama served late in the Cylon War as a Viper pilot. He allegedly gained the call sign of "Husker" on account of his baritone "graveled" voice. He proved a gifted pilot, shooting down his first Cylon on his very first combat mission, for which he received a commendation.
*He racked his 1,000th deck landing while serving on the battlestar Atlantia (Act of Contrition), when he held the rank of lieutenant.
*In the last week in the war, Adama served on Galactica when the battlestar was boarded by Cylon forces. He recalled to his friend and fellow war veteran Saul Tigh a dangerous Cylon tactic that tried to turn the battlestar's power against itself (Scattered, deleted scene).
*Furloughed by Colonial Fleet after the war's end, Adama found work as a deck hand on a merchant fleet civilian freighter, where he met Saul Tigh, who became a long-time friend.
*Adama married Carolanne Adama, whose family had political influence with the defense subcommittee and pulled to get Adama reinstated to the Colonial Fleet. Adama (now a Major) himself arranged for Tigh's reinstatement a few years later while stationed on Atlantia.
*William Adama and Caroline Adama had two sons, Lee and Zak, before the pressures of Adama's career and the time he spent away from home in active service began to place a strain on their marriage, and the two eventually divorced.

*While elder son Lee Adama showed promise as a Viper pilot, younger Zak Adama did not. Kara Thrace, Zak's flight instructor and lover, certified him for basic flight despite young Adama's poor flight skills. Later, Zak Adama was killed in an operational flight. Zak's death would cause a rift between Commander Adama and his older son for nearly three years until Thrace admits her error to both of them.
*Adama rose through the ranks of the peacetime fleet, making rank of major on Atlantia and then Executive Officer of the battlestar Columbia, before becoming the commander of the battlestar Valkyrie. About a year prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, he was ordered by Admiral Corman to escort a stealth scoutship over the Armistice Line. The mission was a failure, and in an attempt to cover up, he ordered the ship and its pilot shot down. Ever since, he had felt guilt, both over shooting down his own pilot and over the possibility that his actions resulted in the holocaust. According to Tigh, this mission brought his star into descent, and he was given command of Galactica as a graceful way of easing into retirement.
*Adama has the rare combination of qualities that make up a good leader: insight, the ability to naturally command respect, a common touch that enables him to relate to the enlisted personnel under his command as well as his officers, intuition, intelligence, a strong belief in his own abilities, and the ability to take the advice of others. These qualities are reflected in the fact that personnel of all ranks aboard Galactica hold him in high regard, and know that he is approachable (Miniseries).
*Adama mistrusts politicians, and sometimes places too strongly a value of loyalty to those he regards as family and friends. From his uneasiness to Laura Roslin's unexpected assumption of the Presidency, to the tolerance and patience of his friend, Saul Tigh, and his stubbornness to save Kara Thrace (You Can't Go Home Again), Adama shows a dogged determination that few others care to confront.
*Several notable assignments and reassignments during his 45-year career in the Colonial Fleet (Hero):
**D6/21311 - First commission: battlestar Galactica fighter squadron
**E4/21312 - Commendation for shooting down Cylon fighter in first combat mission
**D5/21314 - Mustered out of service post-armistice
**R6/21317 - Served as deckhand in merchant fleet and as common [...] aboard inter-colony tramp freighters
**D1/21331 - Recommissioned to Fleet
**D6/21337 - Major: battlestar Atlantia
**R8/21341 - Executive Officer: battlestar Columbia
**C2/21345 - Commander: battlestar Valkyrie
**C2/21348 - Commander: battlestar Galactica

Character History at a Glance
*At the time of the Miniseries William Adama, serves out his final weeks as commander of the battlestar Galactica. After some 50 years of service, the historic warship is in the process of being decommissioned, and it was one of Adama's final duties to formally hand her over to the Colonial Ministry of Education, which would operate the ship as a living museum and educational center commemorating the original Cylon War.
*As a retirement gift, several members of Galen Tyrol's deck crew find and restore Adama's old Viper Mark II.
*On news of a renewed Cylon attack, Adama's first thoughts are, "Dead. We're all dead" (Home, Part II). Despite this, as well as the presumed loss of his wife in Caprica City, he manages to shepherd the last of humanity to safety.

*When Picon Fleet Headquarters is destroyed and then Admiral Nagala is killed, he unhesitatingly takes control of the Colonial's response to the Cylon incursion and starts defining a response to the onslaught. Once President Roslin convinces Adama the futility of fighting against overwhelming odds, and with what may be the last 50,000 humans that remain anywhere, he makes the switch to the more tactical thinking that keeps the Colonial fleet at least one step ahead of their Cylon pursuers.
*From the outset, he is savvy enough to give every single survivor of the devastating attack on the Colonies a reason for hope for the future: the legend of Earth. This falsehood comes back to haunt him as the weeks continue, as Roslin is aware of this lie to the crew and states this privately to Adama.
*Adama continues to face the problem of infiltration within the Fleet by Humanoid Cylons as well as dissenting humans who protest or terrorize others in the Fleet. Adama continually redefines the boundaries of military and civil leadership. After some serious missteps between he and President Roslin, the two later become friends as well as influential leaders.
*Sharon Valerii, a trusted Raptor pilot that served with Adama for two years, reveals herself unwittingly as a Cylon sleeper agent and shoots Adama at point blank range after a critical mission near Kobol. Cottle eventually repairs the damage to Adama's body, but Adama's psyche takes the larger hit while he repairs the damage to the Fleet he and Col. Tigh have caused in arresting President Roslin, as well as the existence of a second copy of Valerii.

*While at first Adama takes a similar stance to Tigh in assuming a hard military posture, a conversation with Dualla helps him realize that, despite the problems, the Fleet is his family, and the family must stay together. After finding the Tomb of Athena with Roslin and reuniting a factioning of the Fleet, Adama firmly buries the hatchet between he and Roslin publicly.
*In a desperate plan, Adama trusts the second Valerii to help ward off a massive Cylon fleet (Flight of the Phoenix). Despite his "gut" feelings about the Cylon, he finds common ground often with her, even apologizing to her after a distasteful incident (Resurrection Ship, Part I).
*Adama stoically accepts Admiral Helena Cain's overall command. Wary of her behavior and her crew, Adama follows his own truism: stick to what you know, until you find something better (Pegasus).
*Matters with Cain's unusually totalitarian command style come to a head when Cain makes several highly questionable orders that lead him to face off with her battlestar and her command in a military challenge. While the issue is temporarily defused, Adama is told by, of all people, President Roslin that Cain is a threat to the safety of the Fleet's citizens and must be eliminated.
*Adama avoids killing Cain after realizing that he would become the monster that the Cylons believed they were, unaware that she has plotted his demise as well.
*With Cain's fate sealed not by Adama but Gina, a frail President Roslin promotes Adama to Admiral. He gives her a simple, affectionate kiss, which she returns, signifying another change in their turbulent association (Resurrection Ship, Part II).
*Adama's sense of justice with Roslin holds when he confronts her about a conspiracy involving her re-election. Roslin admits the conspiracy but she is certain disaster will strike if Gaius Baltar becomes president. He agrees, but convinces Roslin that the correct course of action is to acknowledge a miscount and cover the conspiracy.
*When Cloud Nine and two other ships blow up as a result of Gina's last effort of sabotage, Adama is privately infuriated at new President Baltar's refusal to investigate, and begins to wonder if he hadn't made a mistake (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II).

New Caprica and beyond
*A year later, Adama commands a heavily under-staffed Galactica as the flagship of a defense fleet, consisting of all ships unable or unwilling to make planetfall on New Caprica. He now sports a thick mustache, and has apparently taken up smoking.
*Adama convinces Tigh to rejoin Ellen in New Caprica City after months of debate, with Helo acting as his new XO.
*Not long after Tigh leaves, a massive Cylon fleet bears down on New Caprica. After a brief discussion with Commander Lee Adama (aboard Pegasus), they order the Fleet to escape to pre-arranged Jump coordinates.
*The admiral issues the jump order with a reminder: "We're leaving... but we'll be back."
*A couple of months after Galactica, Pegasus and the rest of the New Caprica Defense Fleet jump away, Adama is trying to make a rescue plan on New Caprica but hurls a Raptor model across the room in frustration (Occupation).

*Admiral Adama mends fences with Sharon Agathon over the months in orbit of New Caprica. He commissions her as a Colonial officer shortly after making contact with the New Caprica Resistance (Precipice).
*After this, Adama orders his son Lee to take over as guardian of the Fleet; Lee's orders are to continue the search for Earth, as Adama is going back to retrieve those left behind &mdash; which Lee considers a suicide mission ("Precipice", "Exodus, Part I"). Despite heavy losses, and with the last-minute assistance of Lee and Pegasus, Adama is able to successfully pull off the rescue attempt. He is lauded by his crew and the civilians for this (Exodus, Part II).
*He is awarded a Medal of Distinction for his 45 years of distinctive service in the Colonial Fleet. To him this is a penance for the harm that he caused in the past, and his belief that he might have been the cause of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies (Hero).
*In an effort to alleviate tensions on Galactica, Adama holds a boxing tournament, disregarding rank, allowing people to work out built up frustrations. He himself joins the festivities by challenging Chief Tyrol (Unfinished Business).
*Adama helps the Fleet through a rough time when the food supplies are contaminated. He orders the entire Fleet through a dangerous nebula lead by Galactica's Raptors. On the other side of the nebula, the Fleet finds the algae planet where they discovered a viable source of food (The Passage).
*After the discovery of the Temple of Five on the algae planet, four Cylon basestars jump into orbit. The Fleet jumps a way, but Galactica remains to recover the people left on the planet. A Heavy Raider boards Galactica carrying a Number Three, Cavil, Boomer, and Gaius Baltar. The Cylons want the Eye of Jupiter and threaten Galactica with destruction if they try to take the Eye. Adama also threatens that if the Cylons try to get the Eye themselves, he'll nuke the planet. A standoff occurs, and when the Cylons try to launch six heavy raiders, Adama orders the arming of several nuclear missiles (The Eye of Jupiter). This frightens the Cylons, who recall five of the six and Adama orders a stand down of the missile batteries (Rapture).
*With the capture of Gaius Baltar, Adama and President Roslin are faced with a dilemma: What to do with Baltar and what did the Cylons learn from the Temple of Five? They try various methods of interrogation, including food and sleep deprivation, threats, and even an interrogation drug. Adama apparently has previous experience with the drug and, after suggesting its use, acts as the interrogator (Taking a Break From All Your Worries).

Notes
*Adama (also known as Nazareth) is the name of a large city in Ethiopia. The name is also a variation on "Adam," the first man to be created according to the Bible in the Book of Genesis. In Hebrew the word pronounced "Adama" means earth.
*The Greek word <i>adamas</i> (αδάμας) means invincible and is the etymological root of the word <i>diamond</i>. It seems a suitable choice as the surname of the various related characters in this series as it relates to their personality traits.
*Edward James Olmos has brown eyes, but he wears contacts when playing William Adama that make Adama's eyes blue. This is done so that Olmos and Jamie Bamber, who is playing his son Apollo, will resemble each other more.
*Astute viewers may recall Edward James Olmos sharing the screen with realistic humanoid robots as Gaff in the classic science fiction film "Blade Runner". Olmos also shares with Star Trek star William Shatner the distinction of being one of only two actors to both command a television starship and portray a police officer in a popular 1980's cop show ("Miami Vice" for Olmos, "[[w:T.J. ==Pre-History==

During the service for the dead at the conclusion of the Miniseries, William Adama states "Life here began out there," reminding the assembly that this was the first line of the Sacred Scrolls, told to them by the Lords of Kobol uncounted centuries ago.

There is some evidence that appears to indicate that the humans of Kobol actually originated from the planet Earth.

When a ground team from the Fleet enters the Tomb of Athena, they find a map room in the form of a planetarium, depicting constellations in Earth's night sky. Laura Roslin identifies the actual star patterns, not their symbols, as the original flags of the Twelve Colonies. These patterns are only visible from Earth, which implies that the creators of the map had some prior knowledge of their destination before setting out (Home, Part II).

This prior knowledge is also consistent with the portions of the Sacred Scrolls revealed to us thus far, and the veneration of the Lords of Kobol, whose resemblance to the Greek Gods cannot otherwise be easily accounted for. The Colonial ecosystems are also identical to Earth's, with very few exceptions.

Several clues point to Earth as the true homeworld of humanity. As the Fleet approaches Earth, the artifacts they encounter become more ancient. The ruins on Kobol are 2,000 years old, the Lion' head nebula beacon is 3,000 years old, and the Temple of Five is dated to 4,000 years.

Kobol
Approximately 3,600 years before the events in the Miniseries, the oracle Pythia recorded her prophecy of the exile and rebirth of the human race (The Hand of God).
While on Kobol, the thirteen tribes apparently lived in an idyllic utopia with their Gods, but roughly 1,600 years later (2,000 years before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies), this coexistence was ended as Pythia's prophecy came to fruition (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I). The prophecy alludes to a "blaze" which descended on the thirteen tribes and against which the Lords of Kobol were powerless to intervene (Home, Part I).
<br clear="both" />

Exodus
In despair, Athena threw herself from the Gates of Hera, to her death. The leaders of the tribes were interred with her, and the populace of the tribes were taken in a "Galleon" (a spacecraft) to their places of refuge. Twelve tribes find and occupy a solar system with at least 12 habitable worlds, while a thirteenth tribe locates a world they named Earth. Zeus warned the survivors that any return to Kobol "would exact a price in blood."
<br clear="both" />

Settlement
After settling on their new homes, another cataclysm befell the Twelve Tribes. This resulted in the destruction of much of their knowledge base and sent the Colonies into a dark age .

After their return to space, the Colonies established many observatories, listening posts, research stations and armories in their system. Inequity and war were common between the Colonies for most of this time period as each colony behaved more as sovereign nations. By the end of the strife, Sagittaron had been exploited for centuries (Bastille Day).

Various shifting alliances and attempts at unified government came out of these conflicts, which would later form the bedrock of the Articles of Colonization, but it would still be some time before a practical Colonies-wide government was established .

The Colonials also created robots, called Cylons, to do work which they found unpleasant, including industrial work and soldiers in their civil wars.
<br clear="both" />

The Cylon War
:Main article: Cylon War

Such was the extent to which the Colonies had invested their military power in the Cylons that when they chose to rebel against their masters, the Colonials found themselves well-matched. With their mastery of Colonial technology, the Cylons were able to infiltrate nearly all networked devices. The Colonials were forced to abandon networked computers and wireless devices in favor of more secure and durable technologies, able to withstand both Cylon infiltration and the powerful nuclear weapons used by the warring parties. Twelve battlestars built in the opening years of the war best exemplified these principles, including Galactica (Miniseries). In response to the great threat posed by the Cylons, the Twelve Colonies formed a unified federal Government for the first time, at the beginning of the war (Colonial Day).

At its darkest hour, the Cylon War came very close to wiping out the Colonies. This outcome of the war likely developed, among other practices, the Case Orange contingency government succession protocol as well as the re-buildup of the Colonial Fleet in the Federal Era.

Armistice
After the Cylon War ended, a long and bloody struggle of approximately 12 years, an armistice was declared, and the Cylons departed for a world of their own. The Colonials established a neutral meeting place, Armistice Station, and made diplomatic overtures for Cylons and Colonials to meet annually. However, these overtures were continually ignored.

After the war, the military went through a Reduction in Force, resulting in the discharge of many of the war's veterans.
<div style="clear: both;"></div>

Federal Era
While the Cylon War had a lasting effect on the government of the Twelve Colonies, the population as a whole, much of it born after the war, had relegated it to a historical note in textbooks (much as real-world Earth citizens regard their Second World War). The now-united government continued to maintain a large standing military, which, forty years after the war, had grown to include 120 battlestars (Miniseries), most apparently more advanced than those of the original battlestar class (Pegasus). This buildup apparently began about twenty years after the war, around the time Saul Tigh and William Adama rejoined the military ("Scattered" and its podcast).

With their military assets now concentrated in a central government under the Articles of Colonization (with Caprica City as the capital), the new government of the Twelve Colonies was able to maintain peace among its members (Water). Now presumably free of the Cylon threat, technologies which could not be used during the war were redeployed throughout the fleet, increasing its effectiveness against more mundane opponents (Miniseries).

This new era of federalism was not without considerable opposition. Dissidents on Sagittaron lead by Tom Zarek took arms against the government (Bastille Day), supplied by arms dealers like Leoben Conoy. Regardless of these localized attempts at insurrection, on the whole the Twelve Colonies faced no major military threats, with the loss of contact with the Cylons. The Colonial Fleet's standing numbers were actually kept disproportionately high relative to their common uses, in fear that one day the Cylons might return. Day-to-day work for the Fleet consisted of handling the small-scale brush fire attempts at rebellion such as on Sagittaron, but these were all light peacekeeping actions rather than actual fighting. Prior to the Cylon attack, none of Galactica's younger-generation crew had ever seen any real combat.

Fall of the Twelve Colonies
:Main article: Fall of the Twelve Colonies

The arrogance of the Colonials in re-equipping their military with technologies vulnerable to Cylon interference proved to be their undoing. Forty years after the first Cylon War, Cylon infiltrators subverted Dr. Gaius Baltar's Command Navigation Program, allowing an advanced Cylon armada to destroy the Colonial fleet with impunity.

The attack resulted in the nuclear bombardment and occupation of the Colonies and the enslavement of most of the few isolated survivors in a series of Farms. Altogether, less than one hundred ships (mostly civilian) survived the attack, including only two battlestars - the nearly obsolete Galactica and the Mercury class battlestar Pegasus. The survivors abandoned the Colonies and formed a convoy in search of the thirteenth colony, Earth, where they hope to find refuge.
Overview
:Baltar's trial commences, with the prosecution presenting evidence of treason committed on New Caprica amid controversial testimonies from Colonel Tigh and President Roslin.

Summary
Teaser
*Laura Roslin, significantly different in dress and hairstyle, is walking through what appears to be the Opera House. She searches for and finds little Hera Agathon walking through the hallways, unable to reach her.
*Also following Hera is her mother Sharon Agathon, who does not appear pleased to see Roslin in pursuit. Both women run down the stairs towards Hera.
*As they turn the corner, a Number Six in white clothing catches Hera and starts a movement as if to turn. There is a dark figure in the indistinct shadows behind her.
*Roslin wakes up. This has been a dream, though it bears a strong resemblance to Roslin's Chamalla extract-induced visions of the past.
*The Fleet is enroute to the Ionian nebula, but it is still several days away.
*Colonel Saul Tigh is trying to tune into Talk Wireless or music in Joe's bar. Brendan Costanza, Diana Seelix and Samuel Anders are playing Pyramid. Anders notes Tigh's attempts to find the music.
*Tory Foster speaks with Cassidy, the prosecuting attorney in Gaius Baltar's trial. Foster's assertion that Roslin witnessed Baltar and a Six on Caprica doesn't convince Cassidy, who stresses the need for hard evidence and the fact that Baltar is only being tried for the charges that can be proved.
*Meanwhile, in the brig, Baltar is visited by a member of the press, who wants to give him a picture of her son, who she claims is sick&mdash;she also claims, much to Baltar's bemusement, that Baltar is capable of saving her son by Baltar simply blessing him. He refuses until she forces it onto him before the Marines remove her.
*Baltar comments that she is the 5th or 6th person to visit in such a manner while virtual Six appears to console the emotionally tortured Baltar, noting that an additional 30 to 40 people have written him letters.

Act 1
*Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson and Hamish "Skulls" McCall are conducting reconnaissance to see if any Cylons are following the Fleet's jumps. Their Raptor hides behind an asteroid as they play cards and wait.
*The trial begins. Cassidy asks the courtroom how loss is measured.
*She notes the number of people who settled on New Caprica, the number who escaped in the Second Exodus and the number lost: 5,197 left behind, killed or otherwise missing.
*The attorney claims that the trust put in Baltar was gravely misplaced, and that the ultimate price must be paid.
*Romo Lampkin, Baltar's attorney, immediately asks to change the plea to guilty as a ploy to use reverse psychology to claim that the power of mob rule is trying to sway opinion in the court.
*Lampkin claims that President Roslin is seeking vengeance on Baltar for her lost election, and claims that the New Capricans were victims of a hopeless battle. Baltar's decision to surrender to the Cylons had saved lives, he claims, versus what Lampkin claims Roslin would have done -- stand and fight.
*Back on Racetrack's Raptor, five baseships suddenly appear and attack. Racetrack's FTL drive barely comes online in time to allow them to escape an incoming missile.
*Back on Galactica, in CIC, Admiral Adama orders a scan for any tracking devices that may have been left on Fleet ships during the New Caprica siege. At the same time Tory Foster hands Roslin a cup and a thermos can. Roslin insists on asking the incarcerated Caprica-Six for information. When Tigh objects, Roslin snaps back, uncharacteristically.
*Lee Adama enters CIC near Roslin, who is collecting herself in the Weapons Control station. He notices Roslin's cup, which she left on the table, and smells it, detecting something unexpected.
*Caprica-Six is questioned. She suggests that the fuel ship is being tracked by a unique radiation signature emitted by the ship. The virtual Baltar appears and convinces her not to cooperate further. Caprica Six retaliates to Tigh's interrogation by recalling Ellen Tigh, inciting Tigh to strike her, and Six to strike back before Marines intervene and shackle the Cylon.

Act 2
*In court, Tigh is questioned, and asked if Baltar appeared to help the resistance in any way. Tigh is noticeably drunk. When questioned about Ellen, Tigh acknowledges her involvement but becomes more withdrawn.
*Lampkin cross-examines about the NCP initiation bombing and how the resistance attempted to target Baltar. Lampkin continues to question about Ellen Tigh's collaboration by asking Colonel Tigh if his wife was a collaborator, muddying the differences between Ellen Tigh and Baltar. Lampkin points out that Tigh appears drunk. Matters turn for the worse when Tigh begins to hear the music.
*Tigh is asked the nature of Ellen's death, and Tigh resolutely answers, claiming that Baltar's inaction made him kill his wife. He reflects a portion of his wife's last words to tell how he would do anything to have Baltar killed. Tigh begins to show increasingly signs of anger as the music in his head continues to increase in volume.
*In Joe's Bar, Anders turns a eye to strange noises from the bar's public wireless and shares a look with Foster.
*Under testimony, Roslin notes the execution of 200 people under Cylon tyranny.
*Lampkin attempts to get Lee Adama to give some insight about Roslin's testimony and Roslin herself, instead of being a passive observer who is simply satisfied in embittering his father.
*Lampkin attempts to play to Lee Adama's sense of justice by putting him between two difficult decisions. One being the betrayal of Roslin and his father, or putting his words about justice into action by sharing the personal information with Lampkin.

Act 3
*Admiral Adama drags the drunken Tigh to his quarters. The Fleet is nine jumps away from the nebula, and repairs are being made to the fuel ship to keep it from being tracked.
*Tigh says that he can't "smell her anymore" and apologizes for his actions in court. Adama replies that, as his oldest friend, he could never embarrass him.
*In the admiral's quarters, Major Adama suggests the idea of sending the fuel ship on a different course to throw off the Cylons temporarily, and the admiral coldly takes it under advisement.
*The two Adamas verbally spar. Admiral Adama angrily accuses his son of helping Lampkin by telling him about what Tigh did to Ellen.
*In response, Major Adama resigns from military duty, while his father accepts the resignation in anger.
*The mood is tense in court when, instead of Lampkin, Lee Adama asks to address the court.
*Lee Adama (in civilian dress) questions President Roslin, but asks if it was Baltar that saved her from cancer. When Admiral Adama objects, Lampkin asks for hostile witness latitude, which is given.
*Roslin tells how the cancer was cured. When asked what medications she was currently taking, she says "I don't remember." Asked specifically about chamalla use, and if she has had hallucinations recently, Roslin counters in the affirmative but notes how it provided the first clues to Earth as well as noting Lee Adama's own involvement.
*Before Lee Adama asks his next question, Roslin whispers to him: "Don't do this." He then asks if she was taking chamalla again.
*Admiral Adama tries to overrule the line of questioning but other tribunal judges overrule him, forcing Roslin to answer. She recalls her fondness for Lee Adama's early leadership, how calling him "Captain Apollo" way back then had a nice ring to it, but how sad she was at how his behavior has changed.
*Adama notes that chamalla can be sweetened to mask its bitter taste, recalling the cup of tea that Tory gave Roslin at Galacticas CIC, which gave him the clue to her use of the drug.
*Roslin confirms that she is taking chamalla again. She then challenges counselor Adama to finish what he had started with his last question. When he asks her why was taking the drug again, she tells the court that she is taking the drug again because her cancer has returned.

Act 4
*Anastasia Dualla packs her bags and leaves her husband in disgust over his questioning of Roslin and his usage of the justice system she believes should be dismantled and rebuilt to make it work again.
*On Colonial One, reporters pepper President Roslin about her cancer, how it will be treated, and if she planned on using Hera Agathon's blood again. The line of questioning infuriates Foster, but Roslin asks her to leave the press conference. When Karen Fallbrook asks how long the President has to live, an unflinching Roslin repeats the same question at the reporter, leaving Fallbrook speechless.
*After the press conference, Roslin angrily criticizes her aide, complaining that Foster is off her game. Foster claims that she hasn't been sleeping well.
*In his quarters, the drunken Tigh still hears the mysterious music and tries to track its source.
*Helo arrives in CIC as interim Executive officer and finds Lt. Gaeta, who briefs him. The tylium fuel ship decoy plan is nearing completion, but there are no further reports of Cylon forces. Three jumps from the nebula.
*Helo remembers a certain smell in the air when trouble was brewing, recalling the weather on Caprica. He believes "something over the horizon" is coming, something that doesn't bode well for the Fleet. "A storm is coming," he says.
*The music that Tigh, Anders, and Foster are hearing appears to be coming from the ship itself.

Bonus Scene
* Lee Adama asks Lampkin, "You know he's guilty, right?". Lampkin appeals to Adama's sense of justice, stating that everyone is guilty of something and there is a difference between guilt and criminality.

Notes
*The episode has one of the most sparse musical score yet. The only major pieces are during Roslin's dream at the beginning and the music Tigh keeps hearing. According to a blog entry by composer Bear McCreary, director Michael Rymer and the editors decided not to use any music during the court room part, in order to let the scenes speak for themselves.
*It is the first episode without an intro sequence, thus increasing the effective running time a little bit. Because of that, no updated Survivor Count is available.
*The bitterness of chamalla and that it can be sweetened to make it taste better, is first mentioned by the oracle Dodona Selloi in "Exodus, Part I".
*One of the shots of others listening to the trial on the wireless shows the refinery ship from "Dirty Hands".
*A storm is often used as a metaphor for a battle, conflict, or massive upheaval in science fiction. Helo's final line in this episode is almost an exact duplicate of the ending of the movie The Terminator, and is very similar to the warning issued by the prophetess in The Stand. A huge storm (a sandstorm) also takes place during the climax of the novel Dune. Additionally, at the end of the Doctor Who episode "Fear Her," the Doctor tells Rose, "Something in the air. Something coming.... A storm's approaching," foreshadowing the invasion of Earth by the Daleks and the Cybermen in the Series 2 finale.

* Samuel Anders wears a uniform with rank insignia and hangs around with Seelix and Costanza. Together with being addressed as "you nuggets", this indicates that he joined the pilot training program.
* The Cylons have apparently been tracking the fleet since the destruction of the Temple of Five. Their strategy was to delay jumping into any system that the Fleet has been until after six plus hours to ensure that the Fleet would not realize that they were being tracked.
* Adama's military experience comes into play again when he orders that the decoy Raptor stay for a total of 12 hours. This is reminiscent of his previous strategies such as the decision to attack the Cylon tylium factory in "The Hand of God". When he changes the regular pattern and stays longer than the Cylons had expected, he finally catches them in the act.
* Lee Adama immediately displays signs of fear once Roslin challenges him to "finished what you(he) started" after asking her if she is taking chamalla again. This indicates that either he suspected that Roslin's cancer has returned or he was beginning to feel that his actions are treacherous.
*This is not the first time that a belief in taking a principled but unpopular stand in fact leads Lee Adama into a morally dubious area. Ironically one such decision also involves Laura Roslin - Lee's decision to mutiny against his father when the then Commander Adama tries to remove Roslin from office during the events of "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II". He almost precipitates a gun battle aboard Colonial One when he mutinies against Colonel Tigh, who is commanding the strike team sent to arrest Roslin, who ultimately surrenders and does not back the younger Adama's move. This suggests a continuous personality trait of failing to judge the consequences of a headstrong pursuit of a perceived moral cause. Soon after, Lee exhibits a similar late realization of the dangerous moral territory he wandered into when he hesitates and ultimately finds himself unable to advocate a widespread mutiny against his father's leadership over the wireless (The Farm).
**The tendency to try and stand on principle (and thus assuage one's own conscience) over practicality seems to be an Adama family trait. The elder Adama has also done this on numerous occasions, some of which had tragic results (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II).
* Helo's comment to Gaeta about a "'storm is coming'" highlights Adama's comment to him at the end of "The Woman King", specifically to how Helo has been many times the voice in the wilderness. His ability to sense or remember certain details hails back to the final scene in "Rapture" when he remembers that Thrace had painted the picture of the mandala. It's also similar to his wife predicting that "Something dark is coming" in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I".
* Lampkin's opening statement is another prime example of his rhetorical skill. He uses reverse psychology to goad the mob to respond and eventually lead one man in the audience to state his desire to see Baltar die. This display of emotion played in Lampkin's favor as it would make the judges wary of giving into the mob mentality. Secondly, he cleverly paints Roslin as a fanatic by proposing that had Roslin been president when the Cylons invaded New Caprica, the entire human race would have been exterminated. However, as Zarek has stated to Roslin, if she had been President, the settlement and eventual invasion of New Caprica would have never taken place.
** The opening statement opens like the opening statement in the film "The Devil's Advocate".
* It appears the closer the Fleet is to the nebula, the more Tigh, Anders, and Foster hear the music. Even, at least in the case of Foster, to the point of exhaustion.
* Tory Foster appears to be losing it to some extent based on her declining grooming and snappish attitude toward the reporters. Roslin tells her she can be replaced by someone that can handle the pressure and at least run a comb through their hair once a week.
* There is a growing movement in the Fleet that believes Baltar has some sort of healing or divine abilities. His internal-Six doesn't want him to brush off these devoted followers, indicating that his belief that he is the "Chosen One" is coming true.
* Lee Adama's actions towards his father and Roslin have led to another impasse between himself and Dualla. Lee Adama has come to a point where he has been alienated from his father, from Roslin, and his wife, in an attempt to gain some sort of respect from Lampkin and to act in accordance with his noble conceptions of justice by following in his grandfather's footsteps.
* Lee Adama's words to the pilots in "A Day in the Life" come back to haunt Racetrack when the Cylons jump on top of her Raptor right after the end of a card game. The ship's systems apparently had been powered down as Racetrack can't even maneuver or evade the missile to give the FTL drive a few more moments to spin up.
* Baltar is only being tried for crimes that the prosecution believes can be proven. He is therefore not being tried for the genocide of humanity that occurred during the Miniseries. Although the show's audience knows his involvement, none of the primary characters in the series who give testimony have to date any hard evidence of his complicity, beyond Laura Roslin's hallucination whilst dying of cancer in "Epiphanies". This is acknowledged before, when she tries to challenge Baltar about the settlement of New Caprica. She tells him that she saw him together with Six, but knows that she has no concrete evidence (Lay Down Your Burdens).
* Cassidy's numbers for the surviving human population are contradictory. It seems that the number the writers arrived at for the surviving humans only refers to the civilian population of the Fleet, excluding the military personnel. The regular survivor count in "Collaborators" is higher. The second confusion stems from her saying "the sum total of survivors [...] who settled on New Caprica". This clearly means only the people down on the planet. However her number of 44,035 also includes the total population left in orbit, both military and civilian. This writing error makes her statement that 5,197 people were lost entirely inaccurate, but aside from that the numbers fit with what has been established before (see: Survivor Count):
**41,435 (Collaborators) - 38,838 = 2,597 (the military personnel in the Fleet)
**44,035 - 39,192 (the inhabitants of New Caprica City) = 4,835 (the total population in orbit)
**4,835 - 2,597 = 2,238 (Lee Adama refers to roughly 2,000 civilians who escaped New Caprica in "Precipice")
**49,550 (count in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II") - 39,192 - 4,835 (total population in orbit) = 5,523 (the death toll prior to the occupation, mostly incurred with the destruction of Cloud Nine)
**49,550 - 5,523 - 41,435 = 2,592 (the causalities of the Cylon occupation and the escape from New Caprica)

Questions
* Did Tigh continue drinking all the time, or did he stop for a while after he seemingly pulled himself together again?
* Why does Anders pursue being a pilot?
* Is there a budding romance developing between Anders and Seelix? (Answer)
* What will Seelix and Anders's callsigns be?
* What is the mysterious music and where is it coming from? (Partial answer)
* Why are Tigh, Anders, and Foster apparently the only ones who can hear the ever-increasing music? (Answer)
* Is the music's loudness and clarity increasing because the Fleet is approaching the Ionian nebula?
* Is Roslin back on using chamalla extract because of prescription from Cottle or is she attempting to receive visions of the future again?
* Did Athena or Caprica-Six receive the same vision that Roslin found herself in during the teaser of the episode? (Partial answer)
* Who is the shadowy figure behind the Six in Roslin's vision?
* Who is the Six in Roslin's vision? Caprica-Six or Baltar's virtual Six?
* Would Athena and Helo be willing to donate some of Hera's blood to save Roslin from her cancer?
* Barring any effective treatment, how long does Roslin have to live?
* With Helo temporarily assigned as XO, who has replaced him as CAG? Or is he temporarily holding down both posts?
* Why does Roslin look so different in her dream?
* Will Baltar take the stand? (Answer)
* Will Caprica Six take the stand? (Answer)
* Where is Zarek in the midst of the trial proceedings?
* How is Caprica's virtual Baltar aware of the details of Saul and Ellen Tigh's relationship and Ellen's death?
* Why has Adama waited so long to order a sweep of tracking devices throughout the Fleet?

* Mark Sheppard discusses the animosity towards Admiral William Adama seen in this episode:
: Mark Sheppard: But I love that Romo is— I don’t know, I think he’s smarter then everybody else. (laughs) I played him like he’s smarter then everybody else. Then there is this wonderful thing that the writers created, which is that he is the protégé of Joseph Adama. But his age falls between William Adama and Lee Adama. To me it’s almost as though Joseph Adama had a second family. You know that with fathers that have a second family there’s always a younger, there’s a middle kid. So the grandson and the father, there is somebody in between them and they are in between in age as well as status. And I thought it was a fantastic thing to play. Most of my antagonism was actually played towards the Admiral, not towards Lee. The entire court room scene, looking at the shots, like whenever they bring Tigh to the stand. To bring Tigh to the stand to be a witness, to give evidence, is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. He has no evidence, not any at all &mdash; it’s all anecdotal. So we have a situation by which I’m not performing to the audience I’m performing to William Adama, going to Tigh: "You killed your wife and Baltar’s responsible, thank you very much now go away", but directed to William Adama: "This is your idea of justice, this is what you are doing with justice." I believe that the system is corrupt, but it’s not unsalvagable. I love the character, Col. Tigh’s character, Michael Hogan just gives the most amazing performance as his character. If I could play anybody that is who I’d want to play, as Tigh.

* Sheppard discusses why Gaius Baltar is the target:
: Sheppard: Yes, [Baltar is] the easy one to punish. He’s like Daffy Duck as opposed to Bugs Bunny, he represents what we really are, as pathetic, and sad and useless as we really are (laughs) under most conditions. Most human beings are not heroes, most human beings do not behave heroically, certainly not all the time. What an incredible aspiration.

* Sheppard discusses filming the court scenes:
: Sheppard: Yeah. It was like Twelve Angry Men. The takes were nine, eleven, fourteen minutes long. Each piece we did was between nine and fourteen minutes long, and [director [[Michael Rymer|Michael] Rymer]] would put up cameras, three cameras, and we’d shoot. And we’d shoot at the same intensity and the same ferocity from the beginning to end of whatever section we were doing. We’d go as far as we could go. So [[Jamie Bamber|Jamie [Bamber]]]’s penultimate scene…Apollo’s penultimate scene – his wonderful speech at the end – actually the beginning of that take is the interrogation of Gaeta. So it starts with Chelah Horsdal, “Cassidy” starting the interrogation of Gaeta, and it goes all the way through to the end with “No further questions.”

: And we did it all in a day. That was a day’s worth of shooting. And it was an amazing piece to do. And I remember Rymer looking at it and going, “Hold on a second, I, uh – our chapters are only nine minutes long. How the hell are we gonna get fourteen minutes into a nine minute chapter?” That’s for the commercials. It was great.
Podcast
Notes from the podcast:

* The opening teaser is indeed set in the Kobol Opera House that has been seen numerous times. This particular scene in the teaser was a late addition as the director and producers wanted to create a foreboding atmosphere to the episode. This was influenced by the fact that the studio executives were not favorable to the idea of ending the season with Baltar's trial.

* RDM goes more into the original trial storyline that involved the Sagittarons and Baltar. In summary, during their time on New Caprica, the food supply had been contaminated and a famine had fallen on most of the colonists, except the Sagittarons, who had been very careful with their harvests and supplies. This alienation between the Sagittarons and the rest of the colonies came to a collision when Baltar was attempting to have the Sagittaron leadership share their food with the other colonists. Unfortunately, Baltar is forced to kill one of the leaders, and thus began the riots and slaughter directed towards the Sagittarons. This killing was to be eventually revealed that it was a necessity instead of an act of genocide.

* Another component of the original storyline was to have Lee Adama be Baltar's only attorney and Lee's morals come into play when he obtains a video recording of Baltar actually shooting the Sagittaron leader. The cliff hanger of the episode was suppose to leave the audience wondering what will Lee do now that he believes Baltar is guilty.

* Over time, RDM and the director agreed that this storyline involved too many plot elements that the audience had never witnessed about Baltar. Once the decision was made, RDM completely revised the whole trial and rewrote the episodes.

* RDM hints that Athena and Roslin did indeed see each other during the dream sequence. A deleted scene had Roslin in the the restroom attempting to cool her head down while Athena comes out from one of the stalls. They looked at each other briefly in a silent acknowledgment that they did see each other in the dream.

* 320 integrity.mp3
: Lee Adama: I refuse to serve under someone that questions my integrity.
: William Adama: And I refuse to have an officer under my command that doesn't have any.

*Cassidy's indictment of Baltar
:Cassidy: How do we measure loss? (pauses) How do we measure loss? We measure it in the faces of the dead. The faces that haunt our memories and our dreams. How do we measure loss? We measure it in our own faces, the ones we see in our mirror every day, because it has marked each of us. So how do we measure loss? When the scale of it becomes too hard to absorb any other way we use numbers. How many killed, how many maimed, how many missing. And when those numbers become too vast to comprehend, as they did two years ago, we had to turn it around. We began to count the living. Those of us who survived to continue the saga of the human race. (walks to a white board and begins to write down.) 44,035; the sum total of survivors from the Twelve Colonies who settled on New Caprica with President Gaius Baltar as their leader and protector. 38,838; our number the day after we escaped. And the missing number, the one noone wants to face? 5,197. 5,197 of us killed, left behind or simply disappeared. 5,197 of all that remains of the human race; lost. The citizens of the Twelve Colonies entrusted their fate and their lives to Gaius Baltar. What we received was a reign of terror that staggers our mind and breaks our hearts. Instead of guidance, we got tyranny. Instead of justice, we got oppression. Instead of a president, we got a murderer. Today humanity holds him accountable for his crime. Gauis Baltar is not a victim. Gauis Baltar chose to side with the Cylons and to actively seek the deaths of his fellow citizens. For that he must pay the ultimate price.
Lt. Brendan "Hot Dog" Costanza is a cocksure pilot, originally washed out of Colonial flight school, but selected as a candidate pilot (nugget) for Viper training under the command of Kara "Starbuck" Thrace.

Biography
Costanza was a Fleet Academy washout, surviving the Cylon Holocaust. He is recruited as a Viper pilot trainee after an accident kills 13 Viper pilots, including Flat Top (Act of Contrition). Initially washed out from Viper training under Lieutenant Kara Thrace, Costanza is reinstated after Commander William Adama ordered his and other nuggets' return to flight training status.

After the reinstatement, Costanza demonstrates an aptitude for being inventive and an overenthusiastic tendency for taking initiative. He acts more experienced than he really is and tries to be top dog. Costanza demonstrates this when a group of eight Cylon Raiders encounter Starbuck, Hot Dog and his fellow nuggets on a training flight. Instead of obeying Starbuck's orders by returning to Galactica at full throttle, Hot Dog returns to assist Thrace as a wingman. This act almost gets the young, inexperienced pilot killed, but buys Starbuck time to dispatch all eight Raiders in a situation where, if not for Hot Dog's distraction of the collective enemy fighter group, Starbuck's odds of survival would be considerably less (Act of Contrition).

Costanza ejects from his severely damaged Viper and is subsequently rescued by Alert 1 (Act of Contrition) and a Raptor piloted by Sharon Valerii and Crashdown, but not before vomiting on the Raptor's deck. A short time later, after briefing Commander Adama, Hot Dog is led to sickbay, but not before Captain Lee Adama removes his own Viper flight wings from his uniform and pins them on Hotdog for his bravery (You Can't Go Home Again).

Costanza develops a bond with Louanne Katraine and Chuckles, members of his training group (Act of Contrition).

Hot Dog takes part in the attack on a Cylon tylium refinery as part of Strike Force One. It appears he assumes command of the group with the death of their flight leader, Fireball (The Hand of God)

Hot Dog takes part in defending Galactica from a Cylon attack while she relocates the separated Fleet (Scattered). After returning to Galactica, Hot Dog survives a brief run in with a Cylon Centurion that boards the ship. With shipboard systems unreliable, Apollo orders Hot Dog to personally report the situation to CIC (Valley of Darkness).

While flying CAP, Colonel Saul Tigh orders Hot Dog to intercept a Raptor carrying the escaping President Laura Roslin. After pilot Apollo continues their escape after Hot Dog fires a warning shot across his bow, Colonel Tigh orders Hot Dog to stand down rather than shoot Apollo's Raptor down (Resistance).

Costanza is one of the pilots, along with Apollo and Starbuck, who are scrambled to intercept two Cylon raiders on a presumed reconnaissance mission to find Galactica. The raiders are dispatched with ease, though their real mission was to relay a transmission from a Cylon agent on board Galactica to Caprica (Final Cut).

Costanza is with Apollo and Starbuck practicing handgun marksmanship when a Cylon computer virus nearly suffocates the trio. Later, Hot Dog is scrambled with the rest of Galacticas air group to face a massive formation of Cylon forces. With the timely intervention of Caprica-Sharon, the enemy fighters are disabled and Hot Dog joyfully takes part in the Great Cylon Turkey Shoot (Flight of the Phoenix).

Costanza is among the pilots on Galactica assigned to patrol the asteroid field during mining operations. He survives the operation, though several of his fellow pilots do not (Scar).

Hot Dog leads Blue Squadron in the attack on the shipyard on New Caprica, when he and his wingman Redwing provide cover fire for resistance members attempting to enter the facility (Exodus, Part II).

Costanza is the one that suggests Athena as a callsign for Sharon Agathon. He appears to be one of Major Lee Adama's senior pilots (Torn) and is a member of the boarding party sent to investigate the dying Cylon basestar found in the Lion's Head Nebula (A Measure of Salvation).

At a mission briefing he complains about a rash in his pubic region. Helo teases him about and says that he hopes the girl was worth it, moving to the next seat (A Day in the Life).

Costanza is assigned to fly as Starbuck's wingman during a routine CAP while the fleet undergoes refueling operations near a gas giant. It is on one of these CAPs Starbuck believes to have made visual contact with a Cylon ship, though Costanza and Starbuck's gun camera see nothing (Maelstrom).

Two weeks after Starbuck's death, Costanza is present during the daily mission brief conducted by Lee Adama immediately prior to the Major being taken off flight status and replaced with Karl Agathon as CAG (The Son Also Rises).

During the opening days of Baltar's trial, Costanza is playing a game of Pyramid in Joe's bar with the nuggets Diana Seelix and Samuel Anders (Crossroads, Part I).

Notes
*Kat is promoted to Lieutenant after passing through Viper training, so presumably Hot Dog has also been promoted to Lieutenant by the episode "Final Cut", but this has not been confirmed in an aired episode as yet. Apparently, as seen in the episode "Scar" newly graduated cadets actually hold the rank of Ensign, and presumably get promoted over time. However, Kat had been confirmed as a Lieutenant at that time and Hot Dog has been a pilot as just as long as her (they were in the first batch of nuggets), so he is probably a Lieutenant as well.
*Actor Bodie Olmos is the youngest son of Edward James Olmos (Admiral William Adama) and the grandson of actor/singer Howard Keel.
*In the DVD commentary for "Act of Contrition", David Eick and Ron D. Moore elaborate on the increased role of the nugget pilots as the series progressed:

:Eick: This young actress playing Kat has proven to be--and there's Bodie Olmos, Eddie's son, in the center there who's Hot Dog, he's also become a recurring character.
:RDM: Well those three in the front, Chuckles, Hot Dog, and Kat, they all became "pilots" to us. And I don't think we really had any expectation of that. The idea was we were going to do "the nuggets", "the new pilots", was just going to be its own kind of story, and maybe you might see one of these guys again later. And what started happening is the writers just started putting them in, like almost every scene that we dealt with the pilots (of Galactica) so these became our "recognizable faces".

*During the initial briefing with Starbuck, Hotdog can be seen to be flipping his pen around his fingers in a similar fashion to "Iceman" from the movie "Top Gun" (Act of Contrition).
Anastasia Dualla du.&#x02C8;&#x0251;.l&#x0259; is the former Communications Officer of battlestar Galactica. She is the wife of Major Lee Adama and, prior to its destruction, was the Executive Officer of the battlestar Pegasus.

Biography
Dualla's father thought that her enlistment in the Colonial Fleet Reserve was crazy, and he viewed the military as a joke. She signed up anyway because she "wanted to believe in something." This rift with her father would continue throughout her service and the last time they spoke they got in a heated argument; three weeks later the Cylons attacked, and Dualla never got a chance to reconcile with him (Final Cut).

At the time of the Cylon attack she monitors fleet-wide communications. Dualla is among the first to notice the unusually high levels of shipboard malfunctions and failures aboard other battlestars (Miniseries).

After the Cylon attack, she coordinates Fleet activities like jumps with Tactical Officer Felix Gaeta. In this responsibility, she discovers that the Olympic Carrier fails to jump with the fleet after yet another jump to escape a 5-day long, relentless attack by the Cylons after their escape from Ragnar Anchorage (33).

Due to his attraction to Dualla, presidential aide Billy Keikeya "volunteers" her to join an off-ship mission to the Astral Queen (Bastille Day). Led by Captain Lee Adama, the mission is to attempt enlistment of prisoners aboard the Queen in resupplying Galactica with water following an act of sabotage (Water). During the mission, the team is taken hostage by prisoners during a jail break lead by fellow Sagittaron and political agitator Tom Zarek.

Freed without personal harm during this situation, Dualla returns Billy Keikeya's affections, and they date during off-duty periods (Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down).

When a party of Cylons boards the Galactica, Dualla suffers a concussion, but survives the engagement (Valley of Darkness). Later, Dualla aids in Laura Roslin's escape from Galactica after the President's arrest by covering up the tracks of their secret communications coordinating their movements in the Fleet, and getting Colonel Tigh to sign permission to close off a causeway which they use as an escape route. At this time, Dualla seems to take a greater personal interest in Apollo (Resistance).

Dualla is assigned to give D'anna Biers a tour around the battlestar as part of Biers' documentary of the ship (Final Cut). Lee Adama seems to return Dualla's personal attraction during a sparring exercise with the petty officer (Flight of the Phoenix).

Dualla's avionics training helps in building a stable communications package for the experimental Blackbird fighter (Flight of the Phoenix).

Keikeya, apparently attempting to solidify his relationship with the petty officer, proposes to Dualla, but she refuses. Keikeya later sees Dualla with Lee Adama on Cloud 9 and accuses her of leading him on. Shortly after Keikeya's accusation, four terrorists commandeer the lounge and its occupants and demand the surrender of Sharon Valerii. When a ruse by Admiral William Adama is discovered, the leader of the the terrorists orders Dualla's death. Keikeya intervenes and manages to shoot one of the terrorists, but his target fatally wounds Keikeya before dying. In the same battle, Lee Adama is left severely wounded from a friendly-fire incident during an ill-fated reconnaisance by Kara Thrace. Dualla promises to watch over Lee Adama until he recovers in sickbay. When he finally regained consciousness, Dualla was so happy that neither of them noticed Thrace leaving the sickbay with a heartbroken expression (Sacrifice).

A few months later, still involved with Apollo, Dualla assists in the counting of ballots for the Presidential election. Dualla conspires with Tory Foster and Saul Tigh to rig the election in Roslin's favor, indicating that she comprehends the disaster that would follow if Baltar is elected. Though the plot initially succeeds, Lt. Gaeta's curiosity leads to Admiral Adama's discovery of the duplicity. Adama covers up the plot but returns the vote, for better or worse, to its actual result, with Baltar being elected to the Presidency.

A year later, Dualla is married to Lee Adama and promoted from Petty Officer 2nd Class to Lieutenant, serving as Communications and Executive Officer on Pegasus, part of its skeletal crew in orbit around New Caprica. Dualla's keen eyes pick up DRADIS contacts, which gave the Fleet advance warning to the arrival of a large Cylon fleet. The remnants of the Fleet escape, hoping to return to liberate New Caprica another day (Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II).

Notes
*Dualla's counterpart in the Original Series is Rigel. According to Ron Moore's blog entry on April 18, 2006, Dualla is actually more or less directly inspired by Rigel, saying Dualla is "filling the role of another woman in the original BSG series who used to man the communication system on their bridge. That character was called "Rigel" but I didn't think that name worked in the remake, so I gave her the name of Dualla."
*Dualla was known throughout all of the first season and part of of the second season only as "Dualla" or "Dee". Her first name was finally revealed in the episode, "Final Cut" in an on screen caption during her documentary interview; her first name has yet to be spoken aloud. "Anastasia" means "resurrection" in Greek.
*Grace Park initially auditioned for the role of Dualla, before being asked to audition for the role of Starbuck, and finally being cast as Sharon "Boomer" Valerii.
