'''Glen A. Larson''' is the creator of the original ''[[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Battlestar Galactica]]'' and a "consulting producer" for the 2003 [[re-imagining|Re-imagined]] [[Battlestar Galactica (RDM)|Series]].

According to the Official Companion, Larson wanted a credit for the new 2003 [[Miniseries]] by [[Ronald D. Moore]] who began the Re-imagined Series, and his claim went to arbitration at the Writer's Guild of America. Ron Moore actually felt that Larson deserved a credit because the story was essentially the same as Larson's, just done "in different ways". As a result, Larson is credited in the Miniseries under the pseudonym "Christopher Eric James." Larson is also credited as a consulting producer on every episode of the Re-imagined Series because he holds the rights to the concept of ''Battlestar Galactica''.

'''Doctor Sherman Cottle''' is ''[[Galactica]]'s'' Chief Medical Officer ([[CMO]]). As the ship is operating with a minimal crew complement leading up to its [[Miniseries|expected decommissioning]], Cottle is the only real physician/surgeon aboard ''Galactica'', supported by a handful of medics such as [[Layne Ishay]] and [[Howard Kim]]. While Cottle also acts as the Fleet's CMO, conducting inspections on other ships, there are also civilian physicians like Dr. [[Robert]] ([[The Woman King]]) and Dr. [[Stoffa]] ([[Hero]]), though the latter might be a clinical psychologist and not a medical doctor.

Cottle is somewhat eccentric and is considered a "bastard" among some of ''Galactica''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> crew, in addition to his penchant for being a heavy smoker, despite knowing the risks, and one not overly impressed by positions of power. He is, above all things, a healer. To him, nothing else really matters, be it rank, riches, or species.

== Biography ==

Cottle is the third person in the Fleet to learn about President [[Laura Roslin]]'s fight with cancer ([[Act of Contrition]]), after [[Lee Adama]] ([[Bastille Day]]) and [[Billy Keikeya]] ([[Miniseries]]). He agrees to treat her condition, without revealing it to anyone else, and further agrees to support more unorthodox treatments such as [[chamalla]] extract (against his better judgment). Knowing the extent of her illness and Roslin's reluctance to undergo [[Doloxan]] therapy, the doctor also recommends prayer.

Cottle takes a personal interest in [[Kara Thrace]]'s recovery from injuries suffered during a mission ([[You Can't Go Home Again]]). The doctor works with Lee Adama to get her out of sickbay ([[Six Degrees of Separation]]) without initial success.

Grumpy yet always professional, Cottle instantly inspires trust, despite his attitude.

After the assassination attempt on [[William Adama]], ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]) Cottle is unavailable to stabilize the Commander as he is aboard another ship in the Fleet. Matters worsen after ''Galactica'''s jump to the [[Emergency Jump Coordinates|emergency coordinates]] separates Cottle and the battlestar. [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]] orders Cottle's medics to stop Adama's internal bleeding ([[Scattered]]). However, while the medics stabilize the Commander's condition, they are unable to fully stop his bleeding. Cottle finally arrives and is able to operate on Commander Adama. After much risky work, the doctor saves Adama's life ([[Fragged]]).

Cottle speaks rather contemptuously of Colonel [[Saul Tigh]]'s authority. When Tigh asks of Adama's condition as Cottle begins surgery to save the Commander's life, he tells the XO, "How should I know? I'm not a psychic. Now get the hell out of here" ([[Fragged]]). Later, after Tigh orders an ill-advised attempt to restore supply runs to ''Galactica'' on the ''[[Gideon]]'', resulting in four civilian deaths, Cottle is anything but sympathetic when Tigh asks what happened: "What'd you expect, genius? You put a pilot in charge of crowd control" ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

At the request of President Roslin, despite her straight-to-the-point warning about its illegality and danger (Cottle: "You're a lousy salesman."), he assists Roslin in escaping ''Galactica'' by filing a request for a [[Raptor]] flight away from the battlestar, to care for patients on other ships. Roslin leaves ''Galactica'' on this "appropriated" Raptor with [[Lee Adama]] at the helm ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Major Cottle performs a series of medical scans on [[Gaius Baltar]]'s head at Baltar's request. Unknown to Cottle, Baltar is looking to see if there is a Cylon computer chip implanted into his brain. The scans show absolutely nothing unusual, and Cottle dismisses Baltar as a hypochondriac ("There's one on every bloody ship.") ([[Home, Part II]]).

Even Cottle's stony exterior gives way to the pain he sees on Laura Roslin's face when he gives her a new prognosis on her fight with cancer. Her cancer has spread aggressively, and the good doctor gives Roslin, on the outside, one month to live ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]). His concern for Cylon [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon Valerii]] and her unborn [[Hera Agathon|hybrid child]] is remarkable, especially in the face of the rest of the crew's distrust and even hatred of her, hinting at his extremely strict sense of medical ethics. He describes her attempted rape by Lt. [[Thorne]] as "unforgivable," and voices his opposition to Baltar using Sharon's baby's blood as a cure for Roslin's cancer "([[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]", "[[Epiphanies]]").

Cottle gains a reputation among the Fleet for performing abortions. When [[Rya Kibby]], a young [[Gemenon (RDM)|Gemenese]] girl, wanted to end her pregnancy, she stows away to get aboard ''Galactica'' and see Cottle. Cottle explains the situation to Admiral Adama by acknowledging, "I get a note that a girl's on the way. She arrives. I do my work. And then she leaves. I don't ask a lot of questions." When Admiral Adama asks Kibby to return to her parents, Cottle suggests that the girl instead request political asylum aboard ''Galactica'', earning a stare from Adama ([[The Captain's Hand]]).

After the election of President [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] and the settlement of [[New Caprica]], Cottle, like most of ''Galactica'''s crew, retires from military duty. One year after the election he serves as a doctor on New Caprica in private practice ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

During the Cylon occupation of the planet, Cottle continues his work as a doctor and surgeon. He works as a neutral party in the Cylon-run state in [[New Caprica City]], treating human and Cylon alike. When a copy of [[Number Three]] (likely [[D'Anna Biers]]) questions why he does this he tells her he would do the same for anyone who came to him ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

After the events on [[New Caprica]], Cottle is forced to deal with varying cases of illnesses as [[Galactica (RDM)|''Galactica'']] takes on refugees. Among one of the diseases, [[Mellorak infection]] is discovered. Hoping to conserve as much of the dwindling supply of medicines as possible, he assigns the medication for Mellorak to ''Galactica'' personnel for immunization and all others on a need basis. Due to the inquisitive nature of [[Karl Agathon]], the appointed 'mayor of [[Dogsville]]', Cottle investigates the activity of his long time friend, [[Michael Robert]]. After performing extensive autopsies on a few of Robert's patients, Cottle discovers that Robert is killing patients based on their birth colony, mainly those from [[Sagittaron]]. Cottle, with help from [[Saul Tigh]], puts an end to Robert's practices ([[The Woman King]]).

Shortly after discovering that [[Laura Roslin]]'s cancer had returned, Cottle starts Roslin's [[Doloxan]] treatment. After it is completed, he, along with his medical staff, are completely flabberghasted when Roslin and [[Sharon Agathon]] wake up screaming simultaneously. Unfortunately, it is not known whether he is informed of the vision that the two, plus [[Caprica-Six]], shared ([[Crossroads, Part II]]).

When Adama plans one final mission for ''Galactica'', Cottle and Ishay discuss it in sickbay, not realizing Laura Roslin is listening. When Adama calls for volunteers for the rescue mission, Cottle and Ishay both volunteer, but Adama sends Cottle back, calling him by his first name and telling him that he's too valuable for the fleet to lose.

== Notes ==

*Cottle's counterpart in the [[TOS|Original Series]] is [[Salik]].
*Doctor Cottle is holding the rank of [[Major]], though he would not be a line officer. He would never take command unless every senior officer is out of commission.
*In the DVD commentary for "[[Act of Contrition]]", RDM states that actor Donnelly Rhodes was one of the three finalists up for the role of Colonel [[Saul Tigh]], though in the end the part was given to one of the other finalists, [[Michael Hogan]].
*Doctor Cottle is named after Michael Rymer's childhood pediatrician, who Rymer tells was actually a very nice person, unlike his fictional counterpart.
*Doctor Cottle is first mentioned in "[[Bastille Day]]", but the character does not appear until the next episode, "[[Act of Contrition]]".
*Cottle's first initial is visible on this [[:Image:Pills.jpg|image]] of a set of prescription bottles made available during the Battlestar Galactica Props & Costumes auction. It is revealed in "[[Daybreak, Part I]]" that it stands for Sherman.
*Sherman Cottle's first name is a possible reference to Col. Sheman Potter, the chief surgeon on the television series M*A*S*H.
== Overview ==
:''[[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]]'s trial commences, with the [[Cassidy|prosecution]] presenting evidence of treason committed on [[New Caprica]] amid controversial testimonies from Colonel [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] and President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]].''

== Summary ==
===Teaser===
*[[Laura Roslin]], significantly different in dress and hairstyle, is walking through what appears to be the [[Opera House]]. She searches for and finds little [[Hera Agathon]] walking through the hallways, unable to reach her.
*Also following Hera is her mother [[Sharon Agathon]], who does not appear pleased to see Roslin in pursuit. Both women run down the stairs towards Hera.
*As they turn the corner, a [[Number Six]] in white clothing catches Hera and starts a movement as if to turn. There is a dark figure in the indistinct shadows behind her.
*Roslin wakes up. This has been a dream, though it bears a strong resemblance to Roslin's [[Chamalla|Chamalla extract]]-induced visions of the past.
*The [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] is enroute to the [[Ionian nebula]], but it is still several days away.
*Colonel [[Saul Tigh]] is trying to tune into [[Talk Wireless]] or music in [[Joe's bar]]. [[Brendan Costanza]], [[Diana Seelix]] and [[Samuel Anders]] are playing [[Pyramid (RDM)|Pyramid]]. Anders notes Tigh's attempts to find the music.
*[[Tory Foster]] speaks with [[Cassidy]], the prosecuting attorney in [[Gaius Baltar]]'s trial. Foster's assertion that [[Epiphanies|Roslin witnessed Baltar with Caprica Six on Caprica]] doesn't convince Cassidy, who stresses the need for hard evidence and the fact that Baltar is only being tried for the charges that can be proved.
*Meanwhile, in the [[Brig|brig]], Baltar is visited by [[Jeanne|a member]] of [[Fleet News Service|the press]], who wants to give him a picture of [[Derrick|her son]], who she claims is sick&mdash;she also claims, much to Baltar's bemusement, that Baltar is capable of saving her son by Baltar simply blessing him. He refuses until she forces it onto him before the [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marine]]s remove her.
*Baltar comments that she is the 5th or 6th person to visit in such a manner while [[Virtual beings|virtual Six]] appears to console the emotionally tortured Baltar, noting that an additional 30 to 40 people have written him letters.

===Act 1===
*[[Margaret Edmondson|Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson]] and [[Hamish McCall|Hamish "Skulls" McCall]] are conducting reconnaissance to see if any Cylons are following the Fleet's jumps. Their [[Raptor]] hides behind an asteroid as they play [[Triad (RDM)|cards]] and wait.
*The trial begins. Cassidy asks the courtroom how loss is measured.
*She notes the number of people who settled on New Caprica, the number who escaped in the [[Second Exodus]] and the number lost: 5,197 left behind, killed or otherwise missing.
*The attorney claims that the trust put in Baltar was gravely misplaced, and that the ultimate price must be paid.
*[[Romo Lampkin]], Baltar's attorney, immediately asks to change the plea to guilty as a ploy to use reverse psychology to claim that the power of [[w:Mob rule|mob rule]] is trying to sway opinion in the court.
*Lampkin claims that President Roslin is seeking vengeance on Baltar for [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|her lost election]], and claims that the [[New Caprica]]ns were victims of a hopeless battle. Baltar's decision to surrender to the Cylons had saved lives, he claims, versus what Lampkin claims Roslin would have done -- stand and fight.
*Back on Racetrack's Raptor, five [[Basestar (RDM)|baseships]] suddenly appear and attack. Racetrack's [[FTL]] drive barely comes online in time to allow them to escape an incoming missile.
*Back on ''[[Galactica]]'', in [[CIC]], Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]] orders a scan for any [[Cylon transponder|tracking devices]] that may have been left on Fleet ships during the New Caprica siege. At the same time [[Tory Foster]] hands Roslin a cup and a thermos can. Roslin insists on asking the incarcerated [[Caprica-Six]] for information. When Tigh objects, Roslin snaps back, uncharacteristically.
*[[Lee Adama]] enters CIC near Roslin, who is collecting herself in the Weapons Control station. He notices Roslin's cup, which she left on the table, and smells it, detecting something unexpected.
*Caprica-Six is questioned. She suggests that the [[refinery ship]] is being tracked by a unique radiation signature emitted by the ship. The [[Virtual beings|virtual Baltar]] appears and convinces her not to cooperate further. Caprica Six retaliates to Tigh's interrogation by recalling [[Ellen Tigh]], inciting Tigh to strike her, and Six to strike back before [[Marine]]s intervene and shackle the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]].

===Act 2===
*In court, Tigh is questioned, and asked if Baltar appeared to help the [[New Caprica Resistance|resistance]] in any way. Tigh is noticeably drunk. When questioned about Ellen, Tigh acknowledges her involvement but becomes more withdrawn.
*Lampkin cross-examines about the [[NCP]] [[Precipice|initiation bombing]] and how the resistance attempted to target Baltar. Lampkin continues to question about Ellen Tigh's [[Exodus, Part I|collaboration]] by asking Colonel Tigh if his wife was a collaborator, muddying the differences between Ellen Tigh and Baltar. Lampkin points out that Tigh appears drunk. Matters turn for the worse when Tigh begins to hear the music.
*Tigh is asked the nature of Ellen's death, and Tigh resolutely answers, claiming that Baltar's inaction made him kill his wife. He reflects a portion of his wife's [[Exodus, Part II|last words]] to tell how he would do anything to have Baltar killed. Tigh begins to show increasing signs of anger as the music in his head continues to increase in volume.
*In Joe's Bar, Anders turns a eye to strange noises from the bar's public wireless and shares a look with Foster.
*Under testimony, Roslin notes the execution of 200 people under Cylon tyranny.
*Lampkin attempts to get Lee Adama to give some insight about Roslin's testimony and Roslin herself, instead of being a passive observer who is simply satisfied in embittering his father.
*Lampkin attempts to play to Lee Adama's sense of justice by putting him between two difficult decisions. One being the betrayal of Roslin and his father, or putting his words about justice into action by sharing the personal information with Lampkin.

===Act 3===
*Admiral Adama drags the drunken Tigh to his quarters. The Fleet is nine jumps away from the nebula, and repairs are being made to the fuel ship to keep it from being tracked.
*Tigh says that he can't "smell her anymore" and apologizes for his actions in court. Adama replies that, as his [[Scattered|oldest friend]], he could never embarrass him.
*In the admiral's quarters, Major Adama suggests the idea of sending the fuel ship on a different course to throw off the Cylons temporarily, and the admiral, who appears a little less than sober himself, coldly takes it under advisement.
*The two Adamas verbally spar. Admiral Adama angrily accuses his son of helping Lampkin by telling him about what Tigh did to Ellen. The major denies knowing anything about that, and his father calls him a liar, and a coward, for not having the guts to face Tigh with the accusations himself. He further states that Baltar is a guilty traitor, and does not deserve a trial at all.
*In response, Major Adama resigns from military duty, stating flatly that he will not serve under a man who questions his integrity. The admiral accepts the resignation, stating with the same cold bitterness that he will not accept an officer who has none.
*At the next court session, Lee Adama asks permission to question Roslin himself.
*Lee Adama (in civilian dress) questions President Roslin about the number of times that Baltar saved her life. He points out that it was Baltar who [[Epiphanies|saved her from cancer]]. When Admiral Adama objects, Lampkin asks for hostile witness latitude, which is given.
*Roslin admits that her cancer was cured thanks to Baltar's idea to inject her with the blood of the half-Cylon child. When asked what medications she was taking at the time, she claims that she cannot remember because she was taking a lot of different things. When asked specifically about [[chamalla]] use, Roslin answers in the affirmative but she points out that her use of it [[Home, Part II|provided the first clues to Earth]], and also notes Lee Adama's own involvement.
*Before Lee Adama asks his next question, Roslin whispers to him: "Don't do this." He then asks if she is taking chamalla again.
*Admiral Adama tries to overrule the line of questioning but other tribunal judges overrule him, forcing Roslin to answer. She recalls [[Miniseries, Night 1|her fondness for Lee Adama's early leadership]], how calling him "Captain Apollo" way back then had a nice ring to it, but how sad she is for him now.
*Adama notes that chamalla can be sweetened to mask its bitter taste, recalling the cup of tea that Tory gave Roslin at ''Galactica'''s CIC, which gave him the clue to her use of the drug.
*Roslin confirms that she is taking chamalla again. She then challenges counselor Adama to finish what he started with his last question. After being goaded by her to do so, he asks her why she was taking the drug again. She tells the court that she is taking the drug again because her cancer has returned.

===Act 4===
*[[Anastasia Dualla]] packs her bags and leaves her husband in disgust over his questioning of Roslin and his usage of a justice system that she believes is very dysfunctional.
*On ''[[Colonial One]]'', reporters pepper President Roslin about her cancer, how it will be treated, and if she plans on using Hera Agathon's blood again. The line of questioning infuriates Foster, causing her to lash out at the reporters, and Roslin asks her to leave the press conference. When [[Karen Fallbrook]] asks how long the President has to live, an unflinching Roslin repeats the same question at the reporter, leaving Fallbrook speechless.
*After the press conference, Roslin angrily criticizes her aide, complaining that Foster is off her game. Foster claims that she hasn't been sleeping well. Roslin is unsympathetic, and flatly states that if Foster does not pull it together, she will have her replaced by someone who can "run a comb through her hair" once a week.
*In his quarters, the drunken Tigh still hears the mysterious music and tries to track its source.
*[[Helo]] arrives in CIC as interim [[Executive officer]] and finds Lt. [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]], who briefs him. The [[tylium]] fuel ship decoy plan is nearing completion, but there are no further reports of Cylon forces. The Fleet is a mere three jumps from the nebula.
*Helo remembers a certain smell in the air when trouble was brewing, recalling the weather on [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] before a big storm. He believes that "something over the horizon" is coming, something that doesn't bode well for the Fleet. "A storm is coming," he says.
*[[The Music|The music]] that Tigh, Anders, and Foster are hearing appears to be coming from the ship itself.

===Bonus Scene===

* Lee Adama asks Lampkin, "You know he's guilty, right?". Lampkin appeals to Adama's sense of justice, stating that everyone is guilty of something and there is a difference between guilt and criminality.

== Notes ==

[[Image:Bell at Baltar's trial.jpg|thumb|Bell filming Baltar's trial.]]

*The episode has one of the most sparse musical scores yet. The only major pieces are during Roslin's dream at the beginning and the music Tigh keeps hearing. According to a [http://bearmccreary.com/html/blog/blog027.htm blog entry] by composer [[Bear McCreary]], director [[Michael Rymer]] and the editors decided not to use any music during the court room part, in order to let the scenes speak for themselves.
*It is the first episode without an intro sequence, thus increasing the effective running time a little bit. Because of that, no updated [[Survivor Count]] is available. The last known count was 41,398, accounting for [[Henry Cheadle]]'s apparent death in "[[The Son Also Rises]]".
*The bitterness of chamalla and that it can be sweetened to make it taste better, is first mentioned by the oracle [[Dodona Selloi]] in "[[Exodus, Part I]]".
*One of the shots of others listening to the trial on the [[wireless]] shows the [[refinery ship]] from "[[Dirty Hands]]".
*A storm is often used as a metaphor for a battle, conflict, or massive upheaval in science fiction. Helo's final line in this episode is almost an exact duplicate of the ending of the movie ''[[w:The Terminator|The Terminator]]'', and is very similar to the warning issued by the prophetess in ''[[w:The Stand|The Stand]]''. A huge storm (a sandstorm) also takes place during the climax of the novel ''[[w:Dune (novel)|Dune]]''. Additionally, at the end of the ''[[w:Doctor Who|Doctor Who]]'' episode "Fear Her," the Doctor tells Rose that there's "something in the air. Something coming.... A storm's approaching," foreshadowing the invasion of Earth by the Daleks and the Cybermen in the Series 2 finale.
*A subplot about the prosecution trying to have Caprica-Six testify against Baltar and about his involvement in the Cylon attack on the Colonies was abandoned late during the story development process. <ref>{{cite_web|url=http://forums.scifi.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=2277157&view=findpost&p=4455731|title=Q&A with Ron D. Moore|date=5 Novemeber 2007|accessdate=11 April 2008|last=|first=|format=|language=}}</ref>
* [[Bell]], formerly seen as [[D'Anna Biers]]' cameraman in "[[Final Cut]]", appears briefly as one of the many press people documenting Baltar's trial. The actor, [[Patrick "Flick" Harrison]], is not credited for appearing in this episode.
* Tigh's statement that he would, "do anything, say anything, to see that man die a painful death" parallels Ellen's telling Saul that she would "do it again, frak anybody, do anything" ([[Exodus, Part II]]) to protect her husband.

== Analysis ==

* There is a [[Cult of Baltar|growing number of people]] in the Fleet who believe that [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] has some sort of healing or divine abilities. [[Virtual Six]] doesn't want him to brush off these devoted followers, indicating that his belief that he is the "Chosen One" is coming true.
* [[Samuel Anders]] wears a uniform with rank insignia and hangs around with [[Diana Seelix|Seelix]] and [[Brendan Costanza|Costanza]]. Together with being addressed as "you [[nugget]]s", this indicates that he joined the pilot training program. This fact is confirmed in "[[He That Believeth In Me]]".
* [[Bell]] has apparently suffered no lasting, adverse effects from his association with [[D'Anna Biers]], who is otherwise known as the [[humanoid Cylon]] "[[Number Three]]", given his presence in the courtroom videotaping Baltar's trial.

=== The Ionian Nebula / The Strange Music ===

* It appears the closer the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] is to the [[Ionian nebula]], the more [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]], [[Samuel Anders|Anders]], and [[Tory Foster|Foster]] hear the music with distracting effects. In the case of Foster, it leads her to the point of exhaustion. In Tigh's case, it leads to further emotional distress, and only further discredits him as a witness in the trial due to his outburst to "turn off that music!".
* Tory Foster appears to be losing her composure to some extent based on her declining grooming habits and snappish attitude toward the reporters.
* When [[Karl Agathon|Agathon]] tells [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]] that a "storm is coming", it hearkens back to Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]]'s words to him at the end of "[[The Woman King]]", specifically to how Agathon has often been the voice in the wilderness. His ability to sense or remember certain details hails back to the final scene in "[[Rapture]]" when he remembers that [[Kara Thrace|Thrace]] had painted the picture of the mandala. It is also similar to [[Sharon Agathon|his wife]] predicting that "something dark is coming" in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]".

=== The Cylons ===

* The Cylons have apparently been tracking the Fleet since the destruction of the [[Temple of Five]]. Their strategy was to delay jumping into any system that the Fleet has been until after six plus hours to ensure that the Fleet would not realize that they were being tracked.
* Adama's military experience comes into play again when he orders that the trailing [[Raptor]] stay for a total of 12 hours. This is reminiscent of his previous strategies such as the decision to attack the Cylon tylium factory in "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]". When he changes the regular pattern and stays longer than the Cylons had expected, he finally catches them in the act.

=== Lee Adama ===

* Lee Adama immediately displays signs of fear once Roslin challenges him to "finished what you started" after asking her if she is taking chamalla again. This indicates that either he suspected that Roslin's cancer has returned or he was beginning to feel that his actions are treacherous.
*This is not the first time that a belief in taking a principled but unpopular stand leads Lee Adama into a morally dubious area. Ironically one such decision also involves Laura Roslin - Lee's decision to mutiny against his father when the then Commander Adama tries to remove Roslin from office during the events of "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]". He almost precipitates a gun battle aboard ''Colonial One'' when he mutinies against Colonel Tigh, who is commanding the strike team sent to arrest Roslin, who ultimately surrenders and does not back the younger Adama's move. This suggests a continuous personality trait of failing to judge the consequences of a headstrong pursuit of a perceived moral cause. Soon after, Lee exhibits a similar late realization of the dangerous moral territory he wandered into when he hesitates and ultimately finds himself unable to advocate a widespread mutiny against his father's leadership over the wireless ([[The Farm]]).
**The tendency to try and stand on principle (and thus assuage one's own conscience) over practicality seems to be an Adama family trait. The elder Adama has also done this on numerous occasions, sometimes with tragic results ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).
* Adama's actions towards his father and Roslin have led to another impasse between himself and Dualla. Lee Adama has come to a point where he has been alienated from his father, from Roslin, and his wife, in an attempt to gain some sort of respect from Lampkin and to act in accordance with his noble conceptions of justice by following in his grandfather's footsteps.
* Adama's words to the pilots in "[[A Day in the Life]]" come back to haunt [[Margaret Edmonson|Margaret "Racetrack" Edmonson]] when the Cylons jump on top of her Raptor right after the end of a card game. The ship's systems apparently had been powered down as Edmonson can't even maneuver or evade the missile to give the FTL drive a few more moments to spin up.

=== The Trial ===

* Lampkin's opening statement is another prime example of his rhetorical skill. He uses reverse psychology to goad the mob to respond and eventually lead one man in the audience to state his desire to see Baltar die. This display of emotion plays in Lampkin's favor as it would make the judges wary of giving into the mob mentality. Secondly, he cleverly paints Roslin as a fanatic by proposing that had Roslin been president when the Cylons invaded New Caprica, the entire human race would have been exterminated. However, as [[Precipice|Zarek has stated to Roslin]], if she had been President, the settlement and eventual invasion of New Caprica would have never taken place.
** The opening statement is similar to the opening statement in the film ''[[Wikipedia:The Devil's Advocate (film)|The Devil's Advocate]]''.
* Baltar is only being tried for crimes that the prosecution believes can be proven. He is therefore not being tried for the genocide of humanity that occurred during the [[Miniseries]]. Although the show's audience knows his involvement, none of the primary characters in the series who give testimony have to date any hard evidence of his complicity, beyond Laura Roslin's drug-induced recollection whilst dying of cancer in "[[Epiphanies]]". This is acknowledged before, when she tries to challenge Baltar about the settlement of New Caprica. She tells him that she saw him together with Six, but knows that she has no concrete evidence ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]).
* [[Cassidy]]'s numbers for the surviving human population are contradictory. It seems that the number the writers arrived at for the surviving humans only refers to the ''civilian'' population of the Fleet, excluding the military personnel. The regular survivor count in "[[Collaborators]]" is higher. The second confusion stems from her saying "the sum total of survivors [...] who settled on New Caprica". This clearly means only the people down on the planet. However her number of 44,035 also includes the ''total'' population left in orbit, both military and civilian. This writing error makes her statement that 5,197 people were lost entirely inaccurate, but aside from that the numbers fit with what has been established before (see: [[Survivor Count]]):
**41,435 (Collaborators) - 38,838 = 2,597 (the military personnel in the Fleet)
**44,035 - 39,192 (the inhabitants of [[New Caprica City]]) = 4,835 (the total population in orbit)
**4,835 - 2,597 = 2,238 (Lee Adama refers to roughly 2,000 civilians who escaped New Caprica in "[[Precipice]]")
**49,550 (count in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]") - 39,192 - 4,835 (total population in orbit) = 5,523 (the death toll prior to the occupation, mostly incurred with the destruction of ''Cloud Nine'')
**49,550 - 5,523 - 41,435 = 2,592 (the causalities of the Cylon occupation and the escape from New Caprica)

* ''[[Mark Sheppard]] discusses the animosity towards Admiral [[William Adama]] seen in this episode:''
: '''Mark Sheppard:''' But I love that Romo is— I don’t know, I think he’s smarter then everybody else. (laughs) I played him like he’s smarter then everybody else. Then there is this wonderful thing that the writers created, which is that he is the protégé of [[Joseph Adama]]. But his age falls between [[William Adama]] and [[Lee Adama]]. To me it’s almost as though Joseph Adama had a second family. You know that with fathers that have a second family there’s always a younger, there’s a middle kid. So the grandson and the father, there is somebody in between them and they are in between in age as well as status. And I thought it was a fantastic thing to play. Most of my antagonism was actually played towards the Admiral, not towards Lee. The entire court room scene, looking at the shots, like whenever they bring [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] to the stand. To bring Tigh to the stand to be a witness, to give evidence, is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. He has no evidence, not any at all &mdash; it’s all anecdotal. So we have a situation by which I’m not performing to the audience I’m performing to William Adama, going to Tigh: "You [[Exodus, Part II|killed]] [[Ellen Tigh|your wife]] and [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]]’s responsible, thank you very much now go away", but directed to William Adama: "This is your idea of justice, this is what you are doing with justice." I believe that the system is corrupt, but it’s not unsalvagable. I love the character, Col. Tigh’s character, [[Michael Hogan]] just gives the most amazing performance as his character. If I could play anybody that is who I’d want to play, as Tigh.<ref name="tsw">{{cite_web|url=http://www.thescifiworld.net/interviews/mark_sheppard_01.htm|title=The Sci-Fi World: Mark Sheppard interview|date=1 May 2007|accessdate=24 May 2007|last=Nuytens|first=Gilles|format=|language=}}</ref>

* ''Sheppard discusses why [[Gaius Baltar]] is the target:''
: '''Sheppard:''' Yes, [Baltar is] the easy one to punish. He’s like [[w:Daffy Duck|Daffy Duck]] as opposed to [[w:Bugs Bunny|Bugs Bunny]], he represents what we really are, as pathetic, and sad and useless as we really are (laughs) under most conditions. Most human beings are not heroes, most human beings do not behave heroically, certainly not all the time. What an incredible aspiration.<ref name="tsw"/>

* ''Sheppard discusses filming the court scenes:''
: '''Sheppard:''' Yeah. It was like ''[[w:Twelve Angry Men|Twelve Angry Men]]''. The takes were nine, eleven, fourteen minutes long. Each piece we did was between nine and fourteen minutes long, and [director [[Michael Rymer|Michael] Rymer]] would put up cameras, three cameras, and we’d shoot. And we’d shoot at the same intensity and the same ferocity from the beginning to end of whatever section we were doing. We’d go as far as we could go. So [[Jamie Bamber|Jamie [Bamber]]]’s [[Crossroads, Part II|penultimate scene]]…Apollo’s penultimate scene – his wonderful speech at the end – actually the beginning of that take is the interrogation of Gaeta. So it starts with [[Chelah Horsdal]], “[[Cassidy]]” starting the interrogation of Gaeta, and it goes all the way through to the end with “No further questions.”

: And we did it all in a day. That was a day’s worth of shooting. And it was an amazing piece to do. And I remember Rymer looking at it and going, “Hold on a second, I, uh – our chapters are only nine minutes long. How the hell are we gonna get fourteen minutes into a nine minute chapter?” That’s for the commercials. It was great.<ref>{{cite_web|url=http://www.buddytv.com/articles/battlestar-galactica/exclusive-interview-mark-shepp-7849.aspx|title=Buddytv.com Exclusive Interview: Mark Sheppard, from 'Battlestar Galactica'|date=3 July 2007|accessdate=13 August 2007|last=|first=|format=|language=}}</ref>
* ''[[Tahmoh Penikett]] discusses his reaction to [[Michael Hogan]]'s performance in the episode:''

: I know that last year, some of Michael Hogan's work touched me so deeply that—especially in the court scene—he had this moment where he was being pressed and he breaks, and he looks at Adama...

: I talked about that for weeks...I thought about it for weeks...it just broke me. I literally was weeping when I saw that. Just that connection...he was completely mad and he had this switch, and he looked at Adama, his best friend, and he just—he admitted it—it was so horrible and so touching....but there's been so many moments like that throughout the series with so much of the cast.<ref name="acedmag">{{cite_web|url=http://acedmagazine.com/content/view/677/1/|title=ACED Magazine: Battlestar Galactica: Cast Interviews|date=24 November 2007|accessdate=25 November 2007|last=Bensoussan|first=Jenna|format=|language=}}</ref>
=== Podcast ===

Notes from the podcast:

* The opening teaser is indeed set in the Kobol Opera House that has been seen numerous times. This particular scene in the teaser was a late addition as the director and producers wanted to create a foreboding atmosphere to the episode. This was influenced by the fact that the studio executives were not favorable to the idea of ending the season with Baltar's trial.

* Moore goes more into the original trial storyline that involved the Sagittarons and Baltar. In summary, during their time on New Caprica, the food supply had been contaminated and a famine had fallen on most of the colonists, except the Sagittarons, who had been very careful with their harvests and supplies. This alienation between the Sagittarons and the rest of the colonies came to a collision when Baltar was attempting to have the Sagittaron leadership share their food with the other colonists. Unfortunately, Baltar was forced to kill one of the leaders, and thus began the riots and slaughter directed towards the Sagittarons. It was to be eventually revealed that this killing was a necessity instead of an act of genocide.

* Another component of the original storyline was to have Lee Adama be Baltar's only attorney and that Lee's morals come into play when he obtains a video recording of Baltar actually shooting the Sagittaron leader. The cliffhanger of the episode was supposed to leave the audience wondering what Lee Adama will do now that he believes Baltar is guilty.

* Over time, Moore and the director agreed that this storyline involved too many plot elements that the audience had never witnessed about Baltar. Once the decision was made, Moore completely revised the whole trial and rewrote the episodes.

* Ron Moore hints that Athena and Roslin did indeed see each other during the dream sequence. A deleted scene had Roslin in the the restroom attempting to cool her head down while Athena comes out from one of the stalls. They look at each other briefly in a silent acknowledgment that they did see each other in the dream.

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

*''Cassidy's indictment of Gaius Baltar:''
:'''[[Cassidy]]''': How do we measure loss? (pauses) How do we measure loss? We measure it in the faces of the dead. The faces that haunt our memories and our dreams. How do we measure loss? We measure it in our own faces, the ones we see in our mirror every day, because it has marked each of us. So how do we measure loss? When the scale of it becomes too hard to absorb any other way we use numbers. How many killed, how many maimed, how many missing. And when those numbers become too vast to comprehend, as they did two years ago, we had to turn it around. We began to count the living. Those of us who survived to continue the saga of the human race. (walks to a white board and begins to write down.) 44,035; the sum total of survivors from the Twelve Colonies who settled on New Caprica with President Gaius Baltar as their leader and protector. 38,838; our number the day after we escaped. And the missing number, the one no one wants to face? 5,197. 5,197 of us killed, left behind or simply disappeared. 5,197 of all that remains of the human race; lost. The citizens of the Twelve Colonies entrusted their fate and their lives to Gaius Baltar. What we received was a reign of terror that staggers our mind and breaks our hearts. Instead of guidance, we got tyranny. Instead of justice, we got oppression. Instead of a president, we got a murderer. Today humanity holds him accountable for his crime. Gauis Baltar is not a victim. Gauis Baltar chose to side with the Cylons and to actively seek the deaths of his fellow citizens. For that he must pay the ultimate price.

* ''Romo Lampkin's opening statement:''
: '''[[Romo Lampkin]]:''' Your honors, the defense would like to change our plea to guilty.
: '''[[Doyle Franks]]:''' What? Counselor, are you sure you want to do that?
: '''Lampkin:''' No, but what choice do I have? I mean, it's obvious [[Gaius Baltar|my client]] is guilty. He's a traitor, and a killer. He's no better than the Cylon, and what do we do with them?
: '''Audience Member:''' '''''Throw them out the [[airlock]]!'''''
: '''Lampkin:''' That's right! Throw them out the airlock! This man sold us to our enemy. This man ''is'' our enemy. And if there's one thing that's good in war, that is right and just and proper, it's '''''slaughtering'' our enemy! Getting some ''righteous payback''! ''What are we waiting for? Let's just kill him now!''''' (silence, then:) It'd be easier, wouldn't it? Simpler. Justice of the mob. It's what they want. Especially [[Laura Roslin|her]]. She's been wanting this for over a year now. Ever since he beat her in a free and fair election of the people. Now she gets a chance to exact her revenge upon a man whose only real crime is ''bowing to the inevitable''. Gaius Baltar saved the lives of the people on New Caprica, where Laura Roslin would have seen us all dead, victims of a battle we had ''no hope in winning''. I don't know about you, but I'm glad she wasn't the president when the Cylons arrived and said, "Surrender or die." I owe my life to Gaius Baltar and the decision he made that day. So does Laura Roslin.

* {{audio|320 integrity.mp3|''The showdown of the Adamas:''}}
: '''[[Lee Adama]]''': I will not serve under a man who questions my integrity.
: '''[[William Adama]]''': And won't have an officer under my command who doesn't have any.

* ''[[William Adama|Adama]] helping a drunk [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] into bed:''
: '''Saul Tigh''': I'm sorry about all that in court.
: '''William Adama''': There's nothing to be sorry about.
: '''Saul Tigh''': I embarrassed you. Made you look bad.
: '''William Adama''': You're my oldest friend, Saul. You never embarrass me.

*''Conversation between [[Lee Adama]], [[Romo Lampkin]] and [[Gaius Baltar]] after the second court session:''
:'''Romo Lampkin''': You're awfully quiet.
:'''Lee Adama''': Nah. Just listening.
:'''Romo Lampkin''': See, your problem is I'm a really good liar and you're not. So let's have it.
:'''Lee Adama''': Have what?
== Overview ==

== Summary ==
===Teaser===

===Act 1===

===Act 2===

===Act 3===

===Act 4===

===Bonus Scene===

* Lee Adama asks Lampkin, "You know he's guilty, right?". Lampkin appeals to Adama's sense of justice, stating that everyone is guilty of something and there is a difference between guilt and criminality.

== Notes ==

* Tigh's statement that he would, "do anything, say anything, to see that man die a painful death" parallels Ellen's telling Saul that she would "do it again, frak anybody, do anything" to protect her husband.

== Analysis ==

=== The Cylons ===

=== Lee Adama ===

=== The Trial ===

=== Podcast ===

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

* ''Romo Lampkin's opening statement:''

* {{audio|320 integrity.mp3|''The showdown of the Adamas:''}}

:'''Gaius Baltar''': My god, he's right. You do know something. You know something and you're not saying it.
:'''Lee Adama''': [[Chamalla|It]] might not even be true.
:'''Romo Lampkin''': I like it already.

'''Gage''' is a Specialist serving on the [[Mercury class battlestar|battlestar]] ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', and later on the ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]''. He wears [[Uniforms (RDM)#Fleet Enlisted Crewmen|green utilities]] as with all enlisted personnel in the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet]].

Gage is happy to finally see some alcohol from the still created by the deck hands on ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]''.

Much to [[Galen Tyrol|Chief Tyrol]]'s and [[Karl Agathon|Helo]]'s discomfort, Gage and a handful of other ''Pegasus'' crewmembers describe the gang rapes by the ''Pegasus'' crew of a captured copy of [[Number Six]] that called herself [[Gina]]. These rapes were apparently led and tacitly encouraged by the battlestar's "Cylon interrogator", Lieutanant [[Alastair Thorne]].

Gage mentions that he got in line twice ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

In retaliation for Thorne's death, Specialists [[Vireem]] and Gage bind and begin beating the incarcerated Helo and Tyrol in the ''Pegasus'' brig until Colonel [[Jack Fisk]] catches them in the act and dresses them down ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]).

After the destruction of the ''Pegasus'', Gage joins the crew of the ''Galactica''.

Later, after the discovery of the devastated [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]], he joins [[Felix Gaeta]]'s [[Gaeta's Mutiny|mutiny]] against [[William Adama|Admiral Adama]]. Gage and some other mutineers raided the quarters of [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] and [[Sharon Agathon]], where they kidnapped the two officers and their daughter, the human-Cylon hybrid child [[Hera Agathon|Hera]]. Gage antagonized Helo, saying that Thorne's death and Helo's subsequent promotion were unjust, and had Helo beaten into unconsciousness. He also threatened to rape Sharon and made a second threat to her safety when he dropped her off in the brig. Specialist Gage then took over Gaeta's position at [[CIC]] when Gaeta took on the role of commanding officer of ''Galactica'' ([[The Oath]]).

Gage never gets the chance to follow through with his threat. Mere hours after the rebellion begins, Adama and his supporters storm the CIC. The mutineers surrender without a fight. Gage is taken away along with the rest of the mutineers. ([[Blood on the Scales]])

'''Gage''' is a Specialist serving on the [[Mercury class battlestar|battlestar]] ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', and later on the ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]''. He wears green utilities as with all enlisted personnel in the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet]].

==Overview==
''The opposition to the alliance with the rebel Cylons reaches its zenith, [[Felix Gaeta]] leads a mutiny aboard Galactica and frees [[Tom Zarek]] from prison.''

==Summary==
===Teaser===
* In Admiral [[William Adama|Adama's]] quarters, the admiral offers the entering [[Saul Tigh]] a cup of algae-ground coffee, which Tigh refuses. Tigh reports that civilian captains are refusing to allow the rebel [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] to refit their [[FTL|jump]] drives for longer range.

* As Tigh continues his report, [[Laura Roslin]] enters from the bathroom, dressed only in a bathrobe and carrying a book. Her smile seems to indicate her enjoyment of Tigh's mild shock at her candid appearance and its implications.

* Gathering his composure, Tigh continues. The [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet's]] attitude toward all Cylons ([[Final Five|Tigh included]]) would make it challenging for Tigh to solve the problem. Adama agrees.

* [[Felix Gaeta]] arrives at [[Tom Zarek]]'s cell in the [[brig]], accompanied by several [[marines]] and other crew. A crewman informs Gaeta that [[Narcho]] and Private Paley have secured a [[small arms locker]].
* Gaeta and Zarek talk about how to keep the [[Quorum of Twelve (RDM)|Quorum]] from reacting badly to their plans, particularly [[Lee Adama]]. Gaeta advises Zarek to push Representative Adama's buttons, since he's "good at that."

* In the admiral's quarters, Roslin discusses the Fleet's issues [[A Disquiet Follows My Soul|for the first time in days]]. She and Adama both agree that the alliance with the rebel Cylons, and general amnesty they were given is not working, and that Lee Adama may not be able to convince the quorum otherwise. Roslin has to force herself to stop talking about the Fleet's problems, and the two say goodbye with affectionate small talk about having dinner ready for Adama when he returns from his shift.

* Gaeta's team escorts Zarek to the [[hangar deck]]. When [[Margaret Edmondson|Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson]] sees them, she yells out, pretending that her [[Raptor]] has a serious fuel leak. This effectively clears most of the deck's occupants out, but [[Jeanne]] lingers unseen in the upper gangway above the deck, and observes everything.

* As Racetrack tells Gaeta that she's disabled the Raptor's transponder, Deck Chief [[Peter Laird]] steps in, questioning the authorization for the Raptor's departure. When Laird is not dissuaded from calling [[CIC]] to verify the ship's use, Zarek quietly picks up a wrench and strikes Laird on the skull, killing him. Jeanne swiftly runs from the gangway, having witnessed the murder.

* When Gaeta reacts in shock to Zarek's action, the Vice President tells Gaeta not to hold on to some "operatic ideal" of how his "revolution" must be handled; any hesitation could jeopardize their plans.

===Act 1===

* In [[CIC]], [[Hoshi]] notes a ship launch that he can't authenticate in the flight log--and [[DRADIS]] does not show any [[IFF|transponder ID]]. Gaeta, taking his place at his station, stalls Hoshi, advising him to look at other logs from the flight deck.
* When Tigh tells Adama quietly that he has had had [[Nowart]] gather marines for further action to compel other civliian ships to comply, Adama warns that doing the same thing as was done with the ''[[Hitei Kan]]'' a few days prior would likely destroy the likelihood of anyone in the Fleet supporting the fragile Cylon alliance.
* Hoshi continues to try to verify the flying contact as Gaeta tries to stall.

* On ''[[Colonial One]]'' as Lee Adama tries to placate an agitated Quorum, Zarek returns, to everyone's shock.

* [[Diana Seelix]] meets with [[Samuel Anders]] in one of the officer's quarters. She slyly talks about her attraction to him as other crew sneak up, blindfold and savagely beat him.

* As Adama hands Private [[Jaffee]] a log to file, Hoshi reports of a fire near the ship's [[wireless]] antenna array. As Adama gives orders for damage control teams to handle the issue, Gaeta warns that the "fire" might not be an accident. Adama agrees and orders [[marines]] to accompany the DC teams.

* In another officer's quarters, [[Kara Thrace]] teases [[Brendan Costanza]] about his new [[Nicholas Tyrol|fatherhood]], commenting how her decision of his pilot nickname of "Hotdog" was an apt one. Constanza angrily replies that Thrace has "[[frak]]ked half the Fleet" and has nothing to show for her similar indiscretions. Thrace throws her bowl of food as Constanza leaves.
* A split second later evacuation alarms ring out. When Thrace steps out to ask Narcho why he, a pilot, is handling damage control, Narcho nastily spurns her senior rank: "Nobody even knows [[The Destiny|what you are]] anymore."
* When Thrace sees a mix of marines and other civilians heading in the opposite direction, she follows them on gut reaction.
* Thrace sees the people break into a small arms locker, arming themselves, with [[Charlie Connor]] issuing orders to both military and civilian personnel. She runs back to her quarters grabs her sidearm and ammo and calls CIC. Gaeta ignores her warning of the break-in. Thrace quickly deduces what's going on.

* On ''Colonial One'', Lee Adama also tries to call his father regarding Zarek's release, but Gaeta blocks Adama's attempt to reach the admiral by claiming that the admiral is busy. Gaeta also feigns ignorance about Zarek's release.
* Zarek steps in, telling Lee that the admiral released him because Zarek would not be a threat if Adama didn't recognize civilian authority. Lee believes otherwise, and leaves for ''Galactica''.

* Gaeta fakes a shipwide communications failure, including backup systems.
* Lee Adama arrives on the hangar deck from his Raptor and is immediately accosted by [[Skulls]] and several others, intent on killing him as Racetrack watches on. "Where are your precious Cylons now?" Connor says as a marine points a gun to Adama's head.
* A shot rings out, but not from the gun Adama stares into. Kara Thrace has shot the marine with the gun and orders Adama's release. When Skulls objects, Thrace doesn't hesitate a second to shoot Skulls in the shoulder. "I can do this all day," she warns, pulling out a second sidearm.
* As Adama runs out, Thrace follows, warning the rest, "Follow me. Please," so she could have a better excuse to shoot them as well.

* As [[Sharon Agathon]] feeds her [[Hera Agathon|daughter]], [[Karl Agathon]] gets his uniform on and warns Sharon to get Hera to daycare.
* Just then, the hatchway on their quarters is being jostled. Someone is trying to get in, and soon succeeds: an angry mob, led by [[Gage]], a former ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' crewman who remembers Agathon's role in the accidental death of [[Alistair Thorne]].
* Gage gloats that he plans on raping Sharon Agathon later as marines beat Helo into unconsciousness.

===Act 2===

* Thrace and Lee Adama seal themselves in a dry storage locker, reviewing what's happened. "Semper frakkin' fi," Thrace hisses after checking a phone, discovering it dead. Adama is astonished how people he's trusted have turned mutinous. He realizes the hangar deck was only the beachhead to a ship-wide takeover of the ship.
* Thrace passionately kisses Lee and tells him she hasn't felt this alive in weeks. They leave to work out what to do, gather people who will help. They try to make their way to [[CIC]]. As they move through the corridors of the ship, they hear gunfire and screams in the distance.
* They pass by several unidentified bodies as well as groups of huddled civilians trying to stay out of the crossfire. A marine pursues a group of armed civilians and exchanges gunfire with them. The duo encounter an unidentified crewman with a pistol who yields to them, suggesting that he is an ally, then continues on.
* CIC is in confusion as Gaeta continues to throw false report after report, keeping Tigh and the admiral off-base.
* The Agathons are thrown in the Cylon brig along with [[Caprica-Six]] and [[Samuel Anders]]. Caprica-Six warns that this is a start to eradicating the Cylons, especially their children. Athena reassures her that they'll be kept alive for now as bargaining chips.
* As Jaffee returns to report that the array's damage was faked, Gaeta initiates the final phase of the takeover, calling in several marines who are part of the mutiny, who encircle Adama and the startled CIC staff. A handful of marines who are not involved remain in the room as well. When one of Gaeta's marines signals as though he is about to shoot the Admiral, Jaffee takes the bullet for him, receiving a fatal wound in the process.
* A firefight ensues, and several marines are killed, including those who are not involved in the mutiny. Gaeta orders his men to cease fire, then orders Adama and his staff to stand down, which the admiral reluctantly agrees to do, despite Tigh's anger.
* Gaeta tells Adama that he is removing him from command of ''Galactica'' on the charge of treason.
* Adama accuses Gaeta of betraying his oath and uniform, while Gaeta retorts that the admiral has done that himself by allying with the Cylons.
* Adama angrily warns that, unlike in times past, there will be no forgiveness or amnesty for this takeover.
* Gaeta orders the marines to arrest Adama, Tigh, and the senior staff and to place them in a holding cell.

===Act 3===

* Kara Thrace and Lee Adama make it to the admiral's quarters, finding Laura Roslin there, telling her of the uprising, the communications blackout and that Zarek is in control on ''Colonial One.''
* Roslin has had enough; she puts on her coat and leads them all out, knowing of one way to get a message out over wireless.

* Gaeta, now commanding CIC, orders [[Redwing]] and his marine team to secure the engine room. Specialist Gage now sits in Gaeta's old station.

* Surrounded by [[Cult of Baltar|his followers]], [[Gaius Baltar]] wishes his group well as he prepares to leave, believing that the uprising will come to get him as well. [[Galen Tyrol]] confirms Jeanne's fears to Baltar.
* As Roslin, Thrace and Lee Adama arrive, Tyrol briefs them. Using secured wireless handhelds, Tyrol has learned that the admiral is in custody. He tells him that he's in control of an airlock that could be used to get Adama off the ship. When Lee asks why Tyrol is doing this, Tyrol tells him that the "[[The Old Man|old man]]" deserves a better fate.

* Tigh and Adama begin speaking to their two marine escorts, Nowart and Maldonaldo. Adama challenges Nowart to shoot him and questions whether Nowart has "got a pair." The distraction works. Tigh and Adama manage to turn the tables, Adama shooting Maldonado and taking Nowart hostage.

* Roslin and Baltar talk. She knows that Baltar's pirate wireless transmitter that he's used to communicate to his followers throughout the Fleet could be used to warn others in the Fleet as well.

* Adama and Tigh watch Connor give orders to other mutineers. Nowart tells them that he was ordered to take them all to the brig. They head there.

* CIC communications are being besieged by confused voices from other Fleet captains as Laura Roslin's voice begins to talk to the Fleet, telling them all, including the Quorum, of the uprising, pleading all to follow the rightful authorities. Gage is unable to stop the pirate signal until Gaeta gets to the station to jam it. But now the Fleet's comm chatter worsens, asking for more information from Roslin and what is happening on the battlestar.

* Lee and Thrace meet up with Adama and Tigh in the brig. Thrace angrily reacts to Nowart's presence as Adama tells him to leave. Thrace shoots at Nowart's way, warning the admiral that they are not his men anymore.

===Act 4===

* In the secondary storage airlock, Roslin and Baltar talk about Gaeta and his duplicitous nature.
* As Adama and team make their way there, Baltar takes a moment to try to get Gaeta to stop his takeover. He reminds him of their failings on [[New Caprica]], suggesting that Gaeta was complicit with the Cylon occupation. Gaeta closes the channel.
* A Raptor is heading towards ''Galactica'' from the [[Rebel Basestar|Cylon baseship]], but Gaeta realizes the craft isn't heading for the hangar deck.

* The Raptor docks in the bay, piloted by an [[Number Eight|Eight]]. Roslin and Adama greet each other and kiss, causing Lee and Thrace to look at each other in surprise. Tyrol's men get word of marines heading their way.
* Baltar and Roslin board the Raptor, but the admiral orders Tyrol to get Lee and Thrace out and back to his secured area. He and Tigh choose to stay behind to ensure that the Raptor gets away.

* Gaeta orders the [[CAP]] to intercept and destroy the escaping Raptor as the episode ends.

* The marines, led by [[Aaron Kelly]], use welding torches to cut through the airlock locks and open the door slightly. Adama returns fire. "It's been an honor to serve with you, my friend," Adama tells Tigh, as marines throw a flash grenade through the doors.

==Notes==
*In the previous episode, it was said that two marines were killed by the rebellious crew of the tylium ship. Yet in this episode, the survivor count is down by just one - accounting for Laird's death prior to the opening sequence. This can be explained by births in the fleet.

== Analysis ==
*Quite a few people have sided with Zarek and Gaeta. These include pilots [[Noel Allison|Narcho]], [[Margaret Edmondson|Racetrack]], [[Hamish McCall|Skulls]], [[Paolo McKay|Redwing]] and [[Diana Seelix]], marines [[Maldonaldo]] and [[Allan Nowart|Nowart]], specialists [[Vireem]] and [[Gage]], Lieutenant [[Aaron Kelly]], and civilian [[Charlie Connor]]. In this episode, Maldonaldo is killed by Adama, Skulls is shot and wounded by Kara Thrace, and Nowart is captured and later released by Adama.
*The Adama/Roslin loyalists include [[Saul Tigh]], [[Lee Adama]], [[Kara Thrace]], [[Galen Tyrol]], [[Helo]], [[Athena]], and [[Hoshi]]. [[Gaius Baltar]] has also sided with Roslin out of self-preservation. By the end of the episode, the only known characters on ''Galactica'' capable of retaking the ship are Lee Adama, Kara Thrace, and Galen Tyrol. Roslin and Baltar have fled ''Galactica'', Admiral Adama and Saul Tigh are cornered, and Helo, Athena and Hoshi were captured before they even knew what was happening.
*The mutiny seems to have revitalized Kara Thrace and Laura Roslin. Thrace is the first one to organize any form of resistance against the mutineers. Roslin has openly addressed the Fleet for the first time since the discovery of Earth.
*The mutiny has given Kara Thrace a new purpose in life as well as something to distract her from her inner demons. She throws herself into battle without hesitation or regard for her own safety. She has also assumed a cold and single-minded attitude as evidenced by her attempts to gun down an unarmed Nowart.
*Despite forming a partnership to overthrow Adama, Zarek and Gaeta clearly have differing ideas of how to go about dealing with their opponents. The brutal killing of Laird is but one example of how Zarek is willing to go to much more extreme lengths than Gaeta, who seems to want the coup to succeed without excessive bloodshed. Zarek also lets slip that he disapproves of Gaeta arresting the senior staff of ''Galactica'' rather than just executing them. It remains to be seen how far this rift will widen.
*Gaeta appears to want the removal of Adama without recourse to too much violence, as shown by his attempt to stop the gunfire in CIC and his refusal to execute Adama and the senior staff on the spot. Nevertheless Gaeta has clearly mentally and morally committed himself to the mutiny to the point where he eventually orders the shooting down of the Raptor carrying Roslin to the Basestar (although he does not know who is aboard).
*It does not seem essential in the end for Tigh and Adama to stay in the storage bay while the marines break down the door, as the Raptor is clear before the marines make it through. It is possible that Adama would have remained anyway, refusing to abandon his ship.
* Adama's final words to his XO show how he still holds Saul Tigh in high regard as his friend, regardless of his revealed Cylon nature. He also express pleasure in seeing Galen Tyrol in the Storagebay when Adama first arrives.
*Lee Adama's sharp comments to Tigh shows the hard line toward the Cylons still held by the younger Adama, which has been displayed in earlier episodes such as "[[A Measure of Salvation]]" when he proposed a genocidal biological attack on the Cylons. Despite this Lee tempers his feelings with his pragmatic attitude to the Cylon alliance alongside his loyalty to Roslin and his father, noting that it is all they have left to survive. However, despite this, he expresses gratitude and no hostility to Galen Tyrol when he gives Lee and Roslin the news of the Admiral being transported to the brig and offers to get the Admiral off the ship.
*Baltar attempts to blackmail Gaeta into abandoning the mutiny by reminding him of his knowledge of Gaeta's complicity in the deaths of Resistance members on [[New Caprica]]. Ironically in a broad manner, they were victims of similar circumstances. Both were victims of duplicitous Cylon females who using sexual affection were able to get them to pass them sensitive secret information and use it against humanity. In the case of Baltar, he gave [[Caprica Six]] the back door codes to the Colonial defense systems allowing the Cylons to shut it down, resulting in the deaths of billions of people. In the case of Gaeta, he gave the names of Resistance members to an [[Eight]] he was having an affair with and who he believed was aiding the humans. In reality, she was responsible for the deaths of many of those on the list he gave her to help. The two main differences between the two situations are that Baltar didn't know Caprica Six was a Cylon while Gaeta did and Baltar's mistake resulted in billions dying instead of the relative few in Gaeta's case.
*No one referenced Felix Gaeta's being complicit in the [[Karl Agathon]]-led mutiny on the ''[[Demetrius]]'', the ship Admiral Adama gave Kara Thrace to command to find an alternative route to Earth. Everyone seemed surprised that Gaeta would mutiny and lead a rebellion against the Admiral. President Roslin said to Baltar "who would have thought" that it would be Gaeta? This would seem to indicate that certainly Roslin and Baltar, and very likely Adama, Tigh and others who weren't aboard the ''Demetrius'', do not know of the incident. It would also indicate that the crew of the ''Demetrius'' - including those who opposed Agathon and Gaeta, like Kara Thrace and Samuel Anders - thought it was in their self-interest to keep the incident to themselves.
*Gaeta has also arguable committed mutiny before when aiding Roslin's escape from ''Galactica'' when it was commanded by Colonel Tigh during "[[Resistance]]".
*"Semper Fidelis" is the motto of the United States Marine Corps. It is a Latin phrase meaning "always faithful." Kara Thrace's disgusted paraphrase of it after she had witnessed marines breaking faith with Adama suggests that the Colonial Marine Corps may have adopted the same motto.
*This mutiny seems to highlight Admiral Adama's incomplete assimilation of the Pegasus crew with his own as a majority of the mutineers are from the Pegasus camp. Adama has been long credited to create a loyalty amongst his crew, but it appears to have taken little hold amongst those from Admiral Cain's camp, despite being together for over 2 years. Old resentments and bitter feuds are finally revealed again during this mutiny, such as Gage's revenge on the Agathons.
*Ironically, Baltar, who had asked the question of whether the leaders of the Fleet will ever be anyone without the name Adama or Roslin, has sided with the Adamas and Roslin out of his need for self-preservation.
*Gaeta does not seem to have a large number of ''Galactica's'' senior staff on his side during the mutiny, lines of dialogue in the episode indicate the senior staff are in fact being taken into custody, suggesting the mutiny is more of an uprising of the "lower classes" . Notably Gaeta also relies heavily on civilian support to achieve his goals. Certainly none of the major characters in the show who are senior officers support Gaeta.
*Racetrack is perhaps the most surprising member of Gaeta's mutiny. Although she did previously participate in Lee Adama and Roslin's escape from ''Galactica'' in "[[Resistance]]", she has always displayed an unwavering loyalty to Adama (technically speaking, Tigh was commanding ''Galactica'' in "[[Resistance]]"). While her general participation in the mutiny can be explained by her natural hatred for the Cylons, her willingness to lead Lee Adama into a possibly fatal trap was highly uncharacteristic. It is possible she thought Lee Adama would only be arrested upon arrival.
*Given Gaeta's comment to Zarek that he should control Lee Adama's dissenting voice in the Quorum by "pushing his buttons" it seems unlikely that Gaeta would have then ordered Lee Adama executed upon returning to the ship. The actions of Connor and Skulls and the marine guard were possibly a spontaneous reaction to Lee's role in defending Baltar and supporting his father. It is unknown if Zarek gave the order to have the younger Adama killed.
*Gaeta's opposition to allowing the Cylons to network the Fleet's ships is somewhat ironic given that he was the one who suggested networking ''Galactica'''s computer systems in "[[Scattered]]".

== Questions ==
*What will happen to Adama and Tigh?
*Where are Kara Thrace, Lee Adama, and Galen Tyrol heading off to?
*How much impact has Roslin's speech had on the Fleet?
*Will Zarek get the rest of the Fleet to fall in line?
*Just how far is Gaeta willing to go to rid the Fleet of the Cylons?
*How will the rebel Cylons react to the uprising?
*Will Roslin enlist the aid of the rebel Cylons to bring down Zarek?
*Where do other crew members such as Hot Dog and Doc Cottle stand?
*Were Gaeta's men actually planning to execute Lee Adama?
*What are Racetrack and Skulls' personal motivations for joining Gaeta?
*Where did Nowart flee to?
*Will any of the mutineers switch sides? What about the loyalists?
*What other loyalists besides Lee Adama and Kara Thrace remain at large on ''Galactica''?
*Will Skulls survive his injuries?
*What was Thrace reading before the alarm was sounded?
*Will Gaeta take advantage of the mutiny to seek personal vengeance against Tigh, Anders, Thrace and Baltar?
*Will Hotdog realize what has happened on Galactica and attempt to prevent Narcho from shooting down Roslin's Raptor?
*Will Specialist Gage follow through with his promise to sexually assault Sharon Agathon?
*Will massive military executions proceed following the final result of Gaeta's mutiny?
*Does the fact that Jeanne was working on the hangar deck indicate that her press pass seen in [[Crossroads, Part I]] was counterfeit?
== Noteworthy Dialogue ==
*'''''Admiral Adama''' after the death of Jaffee and having been relieved of command:''
: "I want you all to understand this! If you do this, there will be no forgiveness. No amnesty. This boy died honouring his uniform. You, you'll die with nothing."

*'''''President Roslin''' addressing the fleet:''
: "Women and men of the fleet. This is your president. We have come to a crossroads in our long and painful journey. Of all the decisions that I have had to make since assuming the presidency, none was more frightening or more difficult than agreeing to this alliance with the Cylons. But we have come to a crossroads in our long and painful journey. Cylons and humans have been at war for generations; we know nothing else. And we have been locked in a struggle that has seen both sides suffer unspeakable loss. But with our supplies running low and our options limited, our former enemies may represent our last, perhaps our only hope. To those in the fleet and in Galactica who would reject this alliance, I am asking you. No, I am begging you to reconsider and place your trust back in those who have brought you this far, and to reject those traitors who would use your fear of the Cylons to destroy Colonial civilization a..."
== Overview ==
:''Starbuck has gone to Caprica. Adama insists Roslin must stand down as President. When she refuses, he is forced to deal with that situation while simultaneously adapting the plan to rid themselves of the Cylon baseship over Kobol.''

== Summary ==

=== In the Fleet ===

* [[William Adama|Adama]] challenges [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] over [[Kara Thrace]]'s actions with the [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raider]] (which occurred in the last episode) and she admits her role in helping [[Kara Thrace]].
* Adama requests her resignation as President. Roslin refuses. He states he is terminating her presidency. When she reveals the press is recording the conversation, he hangs up.
* He isolates ''[[Colonial One]]'' using the [[Combat Air Patrol|CAP]] to physically isolate it, and by jamming all communications from it. He then orders Colonel [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] and [[Lee Adama]] to set-up a strike force to take ''Colonial One''.
* Visiting [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]] in sickbay, Adama asks her to fly a dangerous mission: take a Raptor fitted with a Cylon [[IFF]] transponder, jump to the Cylon [[Baseship|baseship]] orbiting Kobol and drop a nuclear bomb into its landing bay before jumping clear.
* Roslin refuses Adama's final request to yield and her security team ready themselves for an assault.
* The strike team flies to an isolated ''Colonial One'' aboard two Raptors, lead by Tigh and Lee Adama, and they start cutting their way into the ship.
* A confrontation ensues between Colonial forces and Roslin's security. It is broken only when Lee Adama sides with his conscience, and turns on Tigh. Afraid of a bloodbath, Roslin surrenders and Lee Adama is arrested.
* Roslin is returned to the ''Galactica'' after the failed standoff and is placed in the brig, while Lee Adama is in irons in CIC for mutiny.
* [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]] and [[Margaret Edmondson|Racetrack]] arrive in CIC following the success of the attack on the baseship near [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]], and as he thanks them, Boomer shoots Adama twice in the chest at point blank range, seriously wounding him.

=== On Kobol ===

*[[Raptor]] 1 has crashed down on [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]] and is on fire, as the crew struggle to get out and remove the bodies of the dead and injured, [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] becomes trapped by fire in the back of the vehicle.
* [[Crashdown]] tries to help him, but Baltar is too terrified to move. [[Number Six|Six]] appears and gives Baltar the strength to escape by giving the impression ''she'' is helping him out of the ship.
* As they get clear, the ship explodes, and Baltar wanders into the long grass before collapsing, as the rest of the crew start checking on their injured.
* Boomer's Raptor makes it through the Cylon perimeter around the baseship situated above Kobol, but the bomb release mechanism fails, forcing them to land inside the basestar and attempt a manual separation of the bomb.
* While there, Boomer encounters a number of her "sisters". While she tries to claim she is human, they inform her she cannot escape destiny.
* After she leaves on the Raptor, her "sisters" make no attempt to disarm or remove the bomb. The baseship is destroyed in a massive nuclear explosion.
* On Kobol, Baltar recognises Six "saved" him, and she takes him to see exactly why he has been chosen by God, and she walks him towards the ruined [[Opera House]].
* Entering it, he is shown the "face of things to come", apparently a baby in a crib, the "first of the new generation of God's children" - and he is to be their protector.

=== On Caprica ===

* [[Sharon Valerii|Valerii]] has taken [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] to hide near the [[Delphi]] Museum of the Colonies.
* She is aware of the importance of the [[Arrow of Apollo]].
* They have discussed the fact that she is a Cylon (rather than a Cylon-created human clone as Helo suggested ([[Colonial Day]]).
* She reveals her relationship with him is important as it brings the Cylons closer to God. She also reveals she is pregnant.
* Starbuck completes her long-range jump and arrives over [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]]. Passing through Cylon lines, she sets down in Delphi and heads for the museum.
* Locating the [[Arrow of Apollo]] she is confronted by [[Number Six|Six]] and a fight ensues in which Starbuck is initially badly beaten, before a last-minute rush sends them both over a landing, killing Six.
* Helo comes to Starbuck's aid, and she panics when she sees Valerii, immediately realizing that Valerii is a Cylon. Helo stops Starbuck from shooting her, citing that she's pregnant.

== Notes ==
* This episode takes place directly after those of "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]".
* There are now 47,887 survivors in the Fleet, a net loss of 10 since "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I".
* Cylon vessels are indeed capable of very long-range jumps. The disorienting effects of the jump on humans is amplified greatly to the point where those tolerant of jump disorientation are affected.
* [[Delphi]] was once a cultural center on Caprica, and apparently held a lot of historical and religious artifacts
* Cylon basestars appear bio-mechanical, like Raiders
* In "[[Water]]" has five operational [[Raptor]]s: [[William Adama|Adama]] orders Raptors to survey local star systems for water bearing planets, 5 are dispatched. This episode reveals ''Galactica'' has at least 6: 1 is destroyed over [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]], one crashes on Kobol; three take part in the raid on ''[[Colonial One]]'', 1 simultaneously carries a nuclear warhead to the Cylon basestar
*The use of [[IFF]] transponders by the Cylons is an indirect nod to the [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Original Series]], in which [[Apollo (TOS)|Apollo]] and [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] use an IFF-type device to identify their [[Cylon Raider (TOS)|Raider]] to Colonial forces when they launch an attack on a Cylon Basestar ([[The Hand of God (TOS)]])
*According to Ron Moore's podcast, during the Starbuck/Number Six fight in the Delphi Museum, Katee Sackhoff and Tricia Helfer themselves actually perform the entire fight scene, with no stunt doubles.
*The term, ''the shape of things to come'', comes from the novel of the same title written by H.G. Wells in 1933.<ref>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shape_of_Things_to_Come</ref>

== Analysis ==
*Caprica-Sharon is indeed pregnant; love and procreation were the keys to Cylon desire with her and Helo.
*That Baltar sees into the future is clear: but is the child he sees the product of Helo's relationship with Valerii, or his own (future) relationship with a corporeal Six? On the one hand, much of what is seen points to the child being born of Valerii: she admits her condition to Helo (and thus opens the door to him remaining on Caprica with her while Starbuck returns to ''Galactica'' with the Arrow) and the Cylons were apparently aiming for her to become pregnant by Helo (or at least, Doral and Six showed no surprised when she reported her lovemaking with him). But Six's words to Baltar as she prepares him to see the future are interesting: “You are the guardian and protector of a new generation of God's children,” – a somewhat neutral explanation that comes before she smiles, catches her breath and adds, “The first member of our family will be with us soon, Gaius.” This could be a reference to the fact that Valerii is pregnant; however the shift to the possessive “our family” and “with us” could be seen to indicate the child could be Baltar’s own. And again, how much more of an effective guardian and protector will Baltar be, if he is in fact protecting his own offspring, rather than that of another Cylon / human relationship? And if this is the case, where does that leave the Valerii / Helo relationship?
*This episode reveals some more about Number Six: if the offspring on the crib she sees with Baltar is that of Valerii and Helo, then it would more or less confirm that she is in contact with corporeal Cylons elsewhere – how else would she know of the developing Valerii / Helo situation otherwise as it started after her “death”?
*Similarly, it is interesting to note the degree of savagery involved in the beating Six gives Starbuck. In many respects, it mirrors the beating she gave Valerii in "Litmus"; at the time, the viciousness she showed seemed to be linked to the jealousy evident between her and Valerii. Six has been affected by Baltar’s reaction to sleeping with Starbuck (Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Part I). Could the physical beating Starbuck receives be a manifestation of the jealousy she feels for what happened on the Galactica, transmitted to her corporeal sister?
*How will the Fleet react once word of Roslin’s arrest breaks through the communications blackout ''Galactica'' inflicted on ''Colonial One''? What can the civilians do? In many respects Adama holds all the cards – or would do, were he in a fit condition. His ship is the key to the protection of the Fleet, and she is pretty much unassailable. Therefore, it is hard to see anyone stepping too far out of line when it comes to making major decisions. But within the civilian community, it is hard not to see repercussions: Roslin has been arrested; Baltar is missing, possibly dead. ([[Resistance (episode)|Answer]])
*Who is available to take the civilian reigns? Wallace Gray ([[Colonial Day]])? Tom Zarek ("[[Bastille Day]]", "[[Colonial Day]]")? Is it a coincidence that not too long before, at the Quorum of Twelve, Zarek himself raised the spectre of a military coup – and that is more-or-less what they now have on their hands?

== Questions ==
* Are Adama's wounds fatal? ([[Resistance_(episode)|Answer]])
* What will be the public reaction when news of [[Laura Roslin|Roslin's]] arrest finally breaks through the communication's embargo? ([[Home, Part I|Answer]])
* Who will take over as the civil leader with Roslin in the brig and [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] "lost" somewhere on the surface of [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]]? ([[Fragged|Answer]])
* How will [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] rise to the demands of command? ([[Fragged|Answer]])
* What is the baby in the crib? ([[Home, Part II|Answer]])
* If the Cylons understand the significance of the Arrow of Apollo (and by extension, the Tomb of Athena), why don't they use them themselves to find [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]]?
* Are the Cylons genuinely interested in finding Earth, or has it simply been a means to bring them to Kobol? ([[Torn|Future Answer]])
* Why didn't the sound of Starbuck's Raider landing attract Helo's attention sooner? He is across the road from the museum, and so should have seen it touch down, or seen Starbuck climb the steps to the museum.
* How does Six know Starbuck's name so readily? Is this a pointer to her being in communication with her "sister" in Baltar's head? Or having been in communication with Conoy ([[Flesh and Bone]])?
* Did Boomer sabotage the bomb release mechanism, thus forcing herself into landing on the baseship?
* Why doesn't [[Margaret Edmondson|Racetrack]] raise concerns about [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer's]] ability to survive in a vacuum on their return to ''Galactica'' (although there is no indication that there was a vacuum outside)? ([[Scattered|Answer]])
*Is there a breathable atmosphere inside Cylon basestars? ([[Torn|Answer]])
*Why do the Eights do nothing to stop the nuke? Or do the Cylons sacrifice the baseship intentionally for the attempt on Adama?

== Official Statements ==

* ''Regarding [[Lee Adama]] and his development (and setbacks) incurred over the course of [[Season 1 (2004-05)]], as stated by [[Jamie Bamber]]:''

: I think he's his own man. I think he's a natural leader, but I don't think he's realised that yet. We are exploring it.

:At the end of the first season he's on his own again. I mean, he's always been an isolated figure in the first place because he doesn't really belong on the ''[[Galactica]]''. He doesn't even intend to be there but then the end of the world sort of catches him on the hop and that's where he has to make a start. He cuts a role out for himself as the "[[CAG]]," something he perhaps wasn't intending to do.

:And I think he comes into his own gradually. He surprises himself. But then again, at the end of the first season he disobeys an order, so that's basically burned all his bridges that he had with the crew of the ''[[Galactica]]''.

:So he's a lone thinker in many respects, but I think more and more you'll see him start to come out with true leadership qualities. <ref name="gateworld">[http://gateworld.net/galactica/articles/bamber01.shtml Gateworld Article on Jamie Bamber]</ref>

* ''Jamie Bamber on Lee Adama's evolution from this episode into the second season:''

: The difference fundamentally is that one moment in "Kobol's Last Gleaming" when he finally realizes that he's sense (sic) of duty and responsibility can and must extend beyond the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|military hierarchy]] and include his own conscience and the law. The moment he turns his weapon on [[Saul Tigh|his superior]]. And that that is not wrong.

: As a result he finds himself [[brig|behind bars]], in exile, out of uniform and essentially orphaned, but through all this he finds out who he really is and he trusts it. Suddenly, with [[William Adama|his father]] dying, he sees people turn to him for leadership and that brings a realization that he must rise to the occasion and he does so through trusting his own judgment. He is surprised that his mutinous act aboard ''[[Colonial One]]'' has not marginalized him in the [[the Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]; just the opposite&mdash;it has actually highlighted him as a man of conscience, capable of impossibly difficult decisions. <ref name="inside_bsg_p50">"Inside Battlestar Galactica", <u>Sci-Fi Magazine</u> February 2006: [http://bsgmedia.org/gallery/albums/userpics/10017/0008a1hf.jpg 50]</ref>
:'''Commander Adama:''' Congratulations to both of you. You carried out a very difficult and dangerous mission, and you did it...despite any...personal misgivings you may or may not have had...and for that I'm very proud. Thank you.
:'''Racetrack:''' Thank you, sir.
:'''Boomer:''' Thank you, sir. (pulls out a gun and shoots Adama in the chest)
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' I don't understand.
:'''Number Six:''' Life has a melody, Gaius. A rhythm of notes that become your existence once played in harmony with God's plan. It's time to do your part and realize your destiny.
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' Which is what, exactly?
:'''Number Six:''' You are the guardian and protector of the new generation of God's children. The first member of our family will be with us soon, Gaius. It's time to make your choice.
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' But I don't understand what you're talking about. Really, I don't understand-
:'''Number Six:''' Come. See the face of the shape of things to come.

* ''On the Colonial One:''
:'''Colonel Tigh:''' Madam President, no one needs to get hurt here.
:'''Laura Roslin:''' Then why don't you get off my ship, Colonel.
:'''Colonel Tigh:''' I'm placing you under arrest.
:'''Lee Adama:''' No...no, we're not doing this.
:'''Colonel Tigh:''' I'm in command here, Captain.
:'''Lee Adama:''' Colonel, this is wrong!
:'''Colonel Tigh:''' You're relieved! Fall back. Madam President, I would-
:'''Lee Adama:''' (pulls a gun on Tigh) Men, lay down your weapons.
:'''Colonel Tigh:''' Have you lost your frakking mind?
:'''Lee Adama:''' Colonel, tell these Marines to fall back!
:'''Colonel Tigh:''' This is mutiny. You know that.
:'''Lee Adama:''' Yes I do, but you can tell my father that I'm listening to my instincts, and my instincts tell me that we cannot sacrifice our democracy just because the President makes a bad decision.
