===On Caprica===

*[[Kara Thrace|Kara "Starbuck" Thrace]], the [[Marines]], and the [[Caprica Resistance]] continue to take fire from [[Cylon Centurion]]s and their artillery. They make their way up a hill, and hold their position.
*The Cylons hold fire, and [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon Valerii]] remarks that the Cylons will attempt to capture them with non-lethal weapons, such as gas.
*Eighteen hours later, they emerge to find that the Cylons have disappeared. [[Cavil]] -- who suddenly appears behind them -- announces that the Cylons have left the Twelve Colonies and that humanity is spared.

===In the Fleet===

*[[Cally]] is cleared for duty by [[Cottle|Dr. Cottle]], despite having her jaw wired shut. [[Galen Tyrol|Chief Tyrol]] visits her, apologizing for the attack. Cally forgives him, saying that she's always cared for him.

*[[Gaius Baltar|Dr. Baltar]] continues to gain in the polls. On ''[[Colonial One]]'', [[Tory Foster|Tory]] mentions an alternative victory plan. [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] later calls a private meeting with Dr. Baltar, asking to deliver a joint statement of [[Wikipedia:Table (verb)|tabling]] the issue of colonization until after the election. Baltar rejects the idea.

*Roslin, fearing that she has indeed lost the presidential race, confronts [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] on whether he was with a copy of [[Number Six]] on Caprica before the Cylon attack. Baltar avoids answering the question and states that he may have [[Epiphanies|saved her life]], but he will not save her political life.

*[[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] returns to ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' with the resistance fighters, much to the delight of Admiral [[William Adama]]. She mentions the Cylon retreat from Caprica as Brother Cavil, leaving the Raptor, confirms it. He also says he has a message, but is attacked by Chief [[Galen Tyrol]], who declares a "[[Code blue]]," claiming Cavil is a Cylon. Incensed that Caprica-Valerii did not reveal Cavil's true nature earlier, Admiral Adama orders both Caprica-Valerii and the second Cavil to the brig.

*The ''Galactica''-based Cavil (from last episode) is brought to the brig, claiming he's not a Cylon, but changes his tune upon seeing his "brother", as he calls him. Caprica-Cavil then talks about the fact that the “war heroes” ([[Caprica-Six]] & [[Sharon Valerii|"Boomer" Valerii]]) have convinced their kind that the attack of the colonies and the pursuit of the fleet were mistakes. Caprica-Cavil's mission was to relay the message that man and Cylon will go their separate ways. Both Roslin and Admiral Adama are less than trusting regarding the message.

*In the brig, Caprica-Valerii is completely disillusioned and nihilistic, declaring that since her [[Hera Agathon|child's]] death, nothing -- not Adama's trust or [[Helo]]'s -- matters to her. A frustrated Helo insists that he's not giving up on her, but she seems disinclined to listen.

*Thrace and [[Samuel Anders|Anders]] are getting extremely drunk when Apollo comes in to welcome them back. Starbuck makes a snide remark about Apollo and Dualla and goes back to drunkenly making out with Anders. Apollo, clearly upset with Starbuck, leaves without saying much.

*Election Day has arrived and Baltar has an apparent five thousand-vote lead over Roslin with only five ships left to tally. On ''Colonial One'', Foster activates her alternative victory plan with a call to ''Galactica.''

*Amazingly, Roslin initially appears to have retained the presidency. While most are celebrating, Lt. [[Felix Gaeta]] discovers fraudulent actions in the vote, and informs the Admiral that Col. Tigh (who acts suspiciously when questioned by Gaeta) may be involved in a conspiracy to throw the election.

*Admiral Adama confronts Roslin regarding the conspiracy, saying that Tigh has confessed to rigging the vote. Roslin admits her involvement and Adama is disappointed. The Admiral indicates that, for good or bad, the people's vote must take precedence. Adama secretly buries the conspiracy itself while announcing the startling change in events to Dr. Baltar.

*Initially Baltar vows to have a full investigation on the vote count, but after Adama suggests that Baltar take his victory and leave matters be, Baltar relents and informs Adama that he can be quite generous in victory. President-elect Baltar then orders a course for “[[New Caprica]].”

*Baltar and Gina consummate their relationship after Gina informs Baltar that she would not be part of the colonization.

*[[Gaius Baltar]] is sworn in as the new President of the Twelve Colonies, and orders the immediate colonization of New Caprica.

*Gina activates the nuclear warhead [[Epiphanies|given to her by Baltar]] aboard ''[[Cloud 9]]''. The nuclear blast destroys ''Cloud 9'' and at least three other ships. Admiral Adama warns that this may be a prelude to a Cylon attack, but President Baltar ignores him and presses forward with colonization.

===One Year Later===

*President Baltar's administration appears to be corrupt, lax, and unresponsive. [[Felix Gaeta|Mr. Gaeta]], now the President's aide, reports issues with a worker's union. Baltar is upset, saying there have been no Cylon attacks but the people still complain. He has regressed, turning to alcohol, medication, and womanizing.

*Admiral Adama, now sporting a [[Adamastache|mustache]], walks the corridors of a near-empty ''Galactica'', which is quickly falling into disrepair. Over half of the crew have moved down onto the planet, leaving the ship so short on crew that they barely have enough pilots to fly training missions, much less form up [[Combat Air Patrol]]s. The long absence of the Cylons has left both the remaining crews aboard the [[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]] and the Galactica rusty, causing them to take a long time to go to [[Action Stations]]. Adama asks Tigh to retire from duty to join his [[Ellen Tigh|wife]] on the planet. Tigh reluctantly agrees.

*[[Samuel Anders|Anders]], now Thrace's husband, has pneumonia. Dr. Cottle is unable to treat Anders because there are no [[antibiotics]] available. He can only advise Thrace to make sure Anders gets enough rest in order to recover.

*Thrace runs into the Tighs as [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]], now a union boss, is making a speech to begin a strike, with a very pregnant Cally by his side. Col. Tigh mentions to Thrace that ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' keeps a store of backup medical supplies and that Commander [[Lee Adama]] might spring some for her. Thrace disagrees, which prompts Tigh to state that Lee Adama should be over her harsh neglect of Adama's friendship after Anders' arrival a year before.

*Roslin returns to her teaching roots, teaching the settlement's children, and manages to find enjoyment in her new position. [[Maya]] is with her, as is the now one year-old "[[Hera Agathon|Isis]]".

*Thrace calls Commander Lee Adama aboard ''Pegasus'' to request the antibiotics. [[Dualla]], ostensibly the ''Pegasus'' [[XO]], notices something on [[DRADIS]], to her horror.

*A massive fleet of [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]]s arrive in orbit around New Caprica. The Adamas discuss what to do in response, with Lee initially advocating that the remains of the orbiting Fleet [[FTL|jump]] away. Admiral Adama initially resists, but orders the Jump, vowing that they will return.

*A [[Leoben Conoy]]-model [[humanoid Cylon]] shows up at Thrace and Anders' tent, where he asks an ailing Anders about where to find Thrace.

*Mr. Gaeta informs the President of the Cylon approach. Later, before his assembled staff, copies of Numbers [[Number Five|5]], [[Number Eight|8]], and [[Number Six|6]] approach the President. The Cylons declare that as long as there is no resistance, no harm will come.

*President Baltar surrenders on behalf of the colonists after learning that the Cylons - scouting a star system one light year from New Caprica - discovered the planet because of the nuclear explosion set off by Gina. As Cylon forces occupy the planet, Thrace vows to resist.

== Notes ==
* According to Ron Moore's podcast, although the SciFi Channel was willing to air this episode as a 90-minute special, there also exists an 60-minute version for international distribution. In some markets outside of the United States, viewers might only see the 1 hour version of the episode, which Moore regards as "almost incomprehensible". Many plot threads, such as the entire Cally/Tyrol subplot, were completely removed for the one hour version. However, it appears that most non-American television stations also show the full version.

*In the podcast previous episode, he says that in early drafts of this special 90 minute long episode, the writers actually tried to make it a 2 hour special, but this was soon dropped (these times are including commercials).

*The election board appears to have a definitive list of the names of all of the ships in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. Not all of them are clearly visible, but this means that the writers do have an actual list that they get new ship names from.
**In fact, several ships from this list are mentioned by name in later episodes. For example ''[[Faru Sadin]]'', ''[[Chrion]]'', ''[[Thera Sita]]'', ''[[Demetrius]]'', ''[[Cybele]]'', ''[[Inchon Velle]]'', ''[[Hitei Kan]]'', ''[[Aurora (ship)|Aurora]]'' and ''[[Pyxis]]''.

*There were no Quorum or other local elections. The box of fake ballots from the Zephyr and the vote tally board for all of the ships contained only the names "Roslin" and "Baltar". The names of vice-presidential candidates, if any, were not on the ballots.

*Admiral Adama watches [[pyramid (RDM)|Pyramid]] games and was a fan of the [[Picon Panthers]].

*The framed photo of President Roslin and [[Billy Keikeya]] is still on Roslin's desk during the election.

*When Roslin "won" the rigged election results, Roslin received 24,265 votes, while Baltar recieved 22,266. This means that the eligible voters in the Fleet number at least 46,531. In the podcast, Ron Moore explains that he quickly came up with these numbers, to try to reflect roughly how many survivors are below the voting age.

*Toward the end of the episode, President Baltar refers to a government body called the "People's Council". This may be the proportionally elected lower house mentioned by Ron Moore in his [http://blog.scifi.com/battlestar/archives/2005/01/index.html#a000016 blog post] on January 30, 2005.

*[[Hera Agathon]] is seen on New Caprica in the same white cradle that Baltar had a vision of her being in in "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]" and "[[Scattered]]". According to Ron Moore's podcast it is actually the exact same cradle.

*Tyrol's union speech is an almost word for word quote of Mario Savio's address during the Free Speech Movement at Berkeley in 1964. According to Ron Moore and David Eick in the podcast, they even got permission from Savio's widow to use it (even though, due to the way copyright laws work from back then, they could have just used it without permission, they felt they should get it). As a result, it's even listed in the credits: "Mario Savio speech excerpted courtesy of: Lynne Hollander Savio". Actor Aaron Douglas (Chief [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]]) actually studied film of Savio, so all of the hand gestures Tyrol makes when he gives the speech are gestures that Savio actually used.

*Baltar's portrait of himself does not have the 'cut corners' as seen in almost all other papers and photos in the show. Neither do the other framed pictures in the presidential office aboard ''Colonial One'', nor the papers in the classroom on New Caprica.

*[[:Image:LDYBSchool.jpg|Visible]] on the blackboard of Roslin's school are the French verbs ''aller'', ''avoir'', and ''être''. Either English isn't the only language spoken on the Twelve Colonies, or this might be a goof by the set designers trying to make it look more like a generic school.
**French has appeared in the show before. In "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]", Six uses the French word for momentum or surge, ''élan''. In "[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]", Captain [[Cole Taylor|Cole "Stinger" Taylor]] uses the phrase ''esprit de corps''.
**There are also [[:Image:Chinese_characters.png|Chinese ideograms]] in an episode of the ''[[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance|The Resistance]]'' webisodes.
**It is later definitively established that more than one language is spoken in the Colonies. With English being equivalent to Caprican (the common Colonial language, [[CAP]]: "[[Blowback]]"), Ancient Greek being equivalent to Tauron (''[[Caprica (pilot)|Caprica'' pilot]]), and Romanian being equivalent to Old Gemenese ([[TRS]]: "[[Razor]]", [[CAP]]: "[[Blowback]]"), it is plausible that French also corresponds to a language of the Colonies.
* The story of the Fleet settling on New Caprica and being overrun by the Cylons is eerily similar to the story of the first episode of [[Battlestar Galactica (SDS)|Singer and DeSanta's revival attempt]]. The shot of Roslin teaching kids the history of the Colonies is also a, possibly unintentional, reference to that.

*This is the first episode in which all five [[Final Five]] Cylons appear together in one way or another.

*Many of the events of LDYB I&II seem to recall events from the miniseries, but in reverse order. The saga begins with a rousing speech from Commander Adama and ends with the Cylons reappearing after no one had seen or heard from them in a long time.

*Admiral Adama's promise to come back to New Caprica parallels US General Douglas MacArthur's promise that "I will return" after he was forced out of the Phillipine Islands by an overwhelming Japanese force during World War II.

== Analysis ==

=== Characters ===

*[[Gaius Baltar|Baltar's]] arrogance seems to have led to corrupt rule during his year on [[New Caprica]]; he replaces [[Laura Roslin|Roslin's]] modest desk with a more elaborate one, replaces the population count whiteboard with a portrait of himself, and keeps a harem aboard the grounded ''Colonial One''.
*It is ironic that the obligations of duty keep [[Lee Adama]] aboard ''[[Pegasus]]'' while everyone else goes planet-side. He is a reserve officer, and promised to build his pilots a bar as soon as they found a habitable planet.
**It is possible the bar was built and a bar area is seen in "[[Unfinished Business]]".
*Apparently, [[Kara Thrace|Thrace's]] comments about Lee Adama and [[Dualla]] have taken their toll on their relationship. Whether the comments escalated is unknown, but, from Dualla's expression of annoyance when she hands the receiver to Adama when Thrace calls, it is clear that the three never reconciled with each other (See "[[Unfinished Business]]" for the answer).
*The Six and Eight that are part of the Cylon delegation that greets Baltar's cabinet are almost certainly [[Caprica-Six]] and [[Sharon Valerii]]. This is implied from Six's reaction upon seeing Baltar and her intimation that she knows who Baltar is. The two are also wearing the exact same clothes as in "[[Downloaded]]".
*Dualla's commission at that time is peculiar. She was not a flight student, nor was this a typical "battlefield commission" of an outstanding sergeant in recognition of outstanding leadership; she was a so-called "desk jockey" who rarely supervised or led anyone. Moreover, her commission came at a time of a massive demobilization of the colonial military. In real-world militaries, reductions in force typically result in many officers being forced to accept enlisted rank as a condition of staying in service, rather than enlisted personnel being commissioned. There are at least two explanations.
**[[William Adama|Adama]] could have commissioned her in order to ensure her silence about the details of the rigged election which, despite his lack of involvement in, he wished to leave forgotten and unexamined. As a lieutenant, she had much more to lose by talking about it and was reassured that she would not be made a scapegoat.
**Alternatively, Admiral Adama knew of the seriousness of Dualla's relationship with Lee and made her an officer before they became public. A commissioned officer - particularly a ''commanding'' officer and the son of the supreme commander - openly and notoriously bedding a junior enlisted soldier would have been severely detrimental to discipline and morale, and not something to which Adama could have turned a blind eye as he had the the Tyrol-Valerii coupling.
:Exactly who would have had the legal authority to grant commissions at that point is also not known. In the real-life United States, regular commissions (vice temporary "battlefield" commissions permitted under special circumstances in war zones) are issued by the President, with the consent of the Senate (to be sure, it is essentially a "rubber stamp" processing of the list provided by the individual services, but that was not so much the case in the era of a small standing military). It is possible that [[Felix Gaeta]], as senior advisor to the President, arranged for the commission as a gift to his former colleague; this is made less likely, however, by his disapproval of the election fraud.
*In the "one year later" segment, most of the regular characters appear more or less as they did prior to the settlement, with two exceptions: Admiral Adama now sports a moustache (possibly a nod to Olmos' famous Castillo character in ''Miami Vice''), and Lee Adama appears noticeably heavier (which becomes a plot point in [[Occupation]]).

=== New Caprica ===

*The events of the Cylon invasion and occupation of New Caprica were, according to Ron Moore, inspired by the 1940 German invasion of France and the subsequent collaborationist [[Wikipedia:Vichy France|Vichy regime]].
*After a year, everyone still lives in tents. Shortages of medicine abound, the military is of no use, and labor conditions are apparently intolerable. Baltar's administration is apparently as incompetent as Roslin feared, when she said he was ridiculously unqualified and had no idea how to be president. It is not clear to what extent these conditions are the result of administrative incompetence or the inherent difficulties of colonizing a marginally habitable planet.
*The population of New Caprica City is given as 39,192. There were just under 50,000 people in the Fleet before establishing the settlement, with the difference being due to the people remaining on the ships in orbit (roughly 2,200 military personnel and 2,000 civilians) and those having died in the nuclear explosion on ''Cloud Nine'' or later from accidents and the harsh conditions on New Caprica (calculated at about 5,700 to 6,200, offset by births during the first year). See the ''Precipe'' section on [[Survivor Count]] for details.
*Any "industrial" vessels - such as the mining ships, tanker ships, repair ships, agricultural ships - would have landed on the planet and been dismebarked, dismantled, or converted to form the foundation for industrial efforts. Some of the vessels in the Fleet that left [[Ragnar Anchorage]] were not designed for prolonged interstellar journeys, and were basically running on a hope and a prayer, and would have been rendered promptly upon finding a more permanent home. The nineteen-or-so ships seen are, more than likely, the last space-worthy vessels in the fleet that are not needed (or capable of landing) planet-side.
**After a year, people are still living in tents and using landed ships as buildings, so it does not look like much has been dismantled or converted into raw production. Other than the miners, who are apparently extremely unhappy at how things have been run, we see little evidence of industry or production over the year.

=== Other ===

*According to Ron Moore's podcast, the events of "One Year Later" are real and were meant to solidify to the audience that the show is taking a path that cannot be reversed. In order to make the colonization of New Caprica real, Moore felt that the show would need to jump ahead in a span of year to show that indeed Baltar has followed through with his political promise.
*In the podcast for "[[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]" Ron Moore comments on how everyone assumed that ''Pegasus'' would be destroyed by the end of the episode, and thus he thought it would be a good twist to keep ''Pegasus'' alive as another ship in the Fleet. Speculators mistakenly assumed that the nuke that Baltar gave to Gina in "[[Epiphanies]]" would be used to destroy ''Pegasus'' (keeping in tune with the assumed destruction of the [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Original Series]] ''[[Pegasus (TOS)|Pegasus'']]).
*Twenty-nine people died between this episode and the preceding one. One or two Raptors were lost, and some Marines died on Caprica, but that doesn't seem high enough to account for this loss. Even if more people died during the attack on Caprica than shown, losses should be offset by the rescued resistance fighters.
* The Cylons were slightly over a light year away, according to the Number Five at the surrender. The radiation from the nuclear explosion on ''[[Cloud 9]]'' would, of course, only be traveling at the speed of light. There is inconclusive evidence whether the Cylon download process is limited to the speed of light or not. While it is likely that it is, an FTL capability in this area would indicate that [[Gina Inviere]] didn't manage to download. It should be noted that comments by the writers and subsequent episodes point out that she is truly dead.
*Initially it remains open whether Roslin's threat to 'airlock' two Cavils was actually carried out. This is answered in a [[List of Deleted Scenes - Season 2 (RDM)#Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|deleted scene]]. During their drinking scene, Tyrol tells Cally that the execution happened the previous night. It is later seen carried out in ''[[The Plan]]''.
*In the Season 3 trailer that followed the end of the episode, Six narrates, saying that humanity has finally surrendered and the war is over. According to Six, the Cylons can finally fulfill their "''true destiny''" and take care of humanity. They desire to show humanity the "''glory of peace''," mercy; like God, their mercy can only be matched by their power and complete control. So apparently, the war heroes have indeed changed the Cylons' prejudices toward humans, but unfortunately this also means that the Cylons believe that the only way to care for humanity is to control it.
**This narrative sounds more like Baltar's [[Virtual Six|internal Six]] (superior, controlling, zealous) than Caprica-Six (who is more of a people person).
*During the destruction of ''Cloud 9'', debris strikes the screen and knocks it away, cracking the glass, giving the viewer the impression that they are literally watching the action through a camera floating in space. The same effect was seen at the very start of the [[Miniseries, Night 1|Miniseries]].

== Summary ==

===Act 1===

*The second and final night of the miniseries shows [[Kara Thrace]] looking over her Viper after her first Cylon sortie. Chief [[Galen Tyrol]] is aghast at the heavy damage, while Thrace is rather nonplussed from the experience. When she complains about [[Prosna]]'s overdue work, Tyrol tells him of his death, and that of [[Lee Adama]]. She asks about the missing [[Sharon Valerii]] as well; there is no news.
*Elsewhere, Valerii and her civilian passengers float in space. She launches a [[communication drone]] to extend communication range from Cylon jamming.
*Commander [[William Adama]], unaware that his son is alive, orders his battlestar, ''[[Galactica]]'', to [[FTL|jump]] to [[Ragnar]]. The jump is successful, and ''Galactica'' enters the tenuous upper atmosphere of the gas giant, where [[Ragnar Anchorage]] awaited with needed supplies and munitions.
*A stunned [[Laura Roslin]] and pilots awakening aboard ''[[Colonial One]]''. The Cylon missile attack obviously failed. Roslin and the crew find [[Lee Adama]] collapsed on the floor of the cargo bar, next to the [[EMP|electric pulse generators]] that once belonged to ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]''.
*Adama explains that he caused a EM burst that disabled the missiles as well as emitting enough energy to convince the Cylons that the missiles detonated. Happy to be alive, Roslin directs the immediate evacuation of passengers from the disabled civilian ships they encountered before the attack and leaving before the Cylon realize the deception.
*''Galactica'' enters the storm cloud and eventually docks with Ragnar Anchorage, located deep inside the upper atmosphere. In that time, Kara Thrace prays quietly for Lee Adama while [[Aaron Kelly]] somberly monitors the collection of the dead on the unused starboard [[hangar deck]].
*Inside Ragnar Anchorage, Chief Tyrol discovers an unauthorized occupant. He eventually calms him down and disarms him.
*Boomer's Raptor is found by ''[[Colonial One]]''. She lands inside the ship's cargo bay and offloads her survivors, including Baltar. She tells of the massive shutdowns of most of the Fleet to Captain Adama, who directs Baltar to see President Roslin.
*Baltar tries to figure out the means of how his [[CNP]] program was compromised while [[Virtual beings|the virtual Six]] speaks to him.
*Commander Adama visits the station while supplies and weapons are gathered up. The hideaway, [[Number Two|Leoben Conoy]], admits to being an arms dealer, and is apparently unaware of the events that have transpired in the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]].
*A munitions shell accidentally falls and detonates in the station, narrowly missing Adama and Conoy, who escape into a recessed hallway.

===Act 2===

*Commander Adama saves himself and Conoy from the blast but are trapped inside a corridor. Adama orders his crew to continue offloading the supplies while he and Conoy seek an alternate way back to the supply area.
*President Roslin's caravan of stranded ships has grown immensely to about 60 ships. It now includes a mixture of 20 [[sublight]] and 40 FTL-capable ships.
*The captain of a [[Botanical Cruiser]] pleads with President Roslin for help, which she promises. Roslin speaks briefly with a young girl, [[Cami]], who innocently looks forward to meeting her parents at the [[Caprica City]] spaceport, to some chicken pie and bed.
*[[Sharon Valerii|"Boomer" Valerii]] finds a needed [[tylium]] fueling ship just as a [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raider]] scout discovers the caravan and disappears.
*In a briefing with Roslin and others, Captain Adama recommends immediate escape for all [[FTL]]-capable ships to Ragnar Anchorage. When [[Aaron Doral]] and the [[Colonial One Captain|captain]] of ''Colonial One'' want to evacuate as many people from the sublight ships before an attack, Adama reminds everyone that the war has changed to the survival of the human race: taking time to evacuate the sublight ships could leave the entire caravan open to nuclear destruction.
*Roslin orders the jump. Afterwards, she tells her aide, [[Billy Keikeya]], that she has cancer. Billy tells Roslin that he had already guessed that she had cancer and then tells her that Cami will be killed because the [[Botanical Cruiser]] is not [[FTL]] capable. Roslin is upset.
*The sublight ships are left behind as the rest of the fleet jumps and subsequently destroyed by Cylon nuclear missiles. Cami remains sitting in the gardens of the Botanical Cruiser completely unaware of what is going on as a missle strikes, destroying the ship in a bright flash.

===Act 3===

*Deep in the station's bowels, Conoy speaks to Commander Adama, talking philosophically of mankind, its flaws, and questions if humanity deserved to survive. Conoy now appears in some kind of physical distress, which he dismisses to Commander Adama as "allergies."
*The loading of ordnance from the station is proceeding well, when [[DRADIS]] detects incoming vessels. Luckily, they are friendly spacecraft.
*Roslin's caravan arrives at Ragnar Anchorage. Later, aboard ''Galactica'', Roslin orders Tigh to help the stranded colonists, but he refuses the order. Lee Adama requests two [[disaster pod]]s to help the colonists. Tigh relents, knowing how happy his father will be that his son has survived. Captain Adama is assigned the role of [[CAG]] by Tigh.
*Tyrol reunites with Sharon Valerii, to [[Boxey (RDM)|Boxey's]] consternation at their affection.
*When [[Dualla]] sees Billy Keikeya in the hallway, who approaches her for directions, she impulsively kisses him, then leads him and Dr. Baltar to [[CIC]].
*Lee Adama greets [[Kara Thrace]], who is both surprised and thrilled that Adama is alive. They speak awkwardly about his promotion to CAG.
*Later, Conoy has another of painful attack from his "allergies." Commander Adama realizes that Leoben Conoy is some sort of new [[Humanoid Cylon|Cylon]] that looks like a human, but still relies on [[Silica Pathways|silica pathways]] and other Cylon technologies that, as the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet]] discovered, would be disrupted by the EM radiation emitted by Ragnar's cloud.
*Conoy appears to collapse from the radiation, then attacks Adama, throwing him about the dank, dark room filled with pipes and valves. Adama recovers long enough to fight Conoy off, eventually bludgeoning the Cylon to death with a [[flashlight]] that Adama carried.
*[[Gaius Baltar]], now aboard ''Galactica'', is tasked with finding any ships that are using the tainted [[CNP]] he created and erasing the tainted program. ''Galactica'' received the CNP, according to Lieutenant [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]], however, as the CNP required a network (which ''Galactica'' does not have), the program was never installed in any system on the battlestar. Baltar continues to be haunted by a [[Virtual beings|virtual image]] of [[Number Six]], who points out a [[Cylon transponder|curious device]] mounted on the DRADIS console. The discovery leads Baltar to realize that there is a [[humanoid Cylon]] agent aboard ''Galactica''.

===Act 4===

*Baltar watches [[Aaron Doral]] in CIC, believing him to be a Cylon agent on the premises that Doral is a civilian, an outsider who has been on the ship for weeks.
*Commander Adama returns to ''Galactica'' with Leoben Conoy's now lifeless Cylon body. While he ponders that problem, Tigh gives him the good news about his son. The two Adamas meet, and share a moment of closeness that they haven't experienced since Zak Adama's death.
*Tigh, Adama, and Baltar discuss the findings of Conoy's autopsy and the implication that any one of them could be a Cylon. Adama asks Baltar to begin work on a means of distinguishing humanoid Cylons from real humans.
*[[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] begins preparations for a reconnaissance mission to check for any enemy presence. As she preps, Thrace admits to Lee Adama that her former fiancee, [[Zak Adama]], failed basic flight training, but as his flight instructor, she passed him anyway. Adama is stunned, realizing that his father didn't pressure his brother as much as he believed.
*Doral is arrested. In the brig, Baltar makes up a [[technobabble|fake, yet matter-of-fact sounding]] argument for Doral's guilt as Colonel Tigh orders the Cylon device found by Baltar on the DRADIS console removed and studied.
*Starbuck's reconnaissance mission to the edge of Ragnar's EM cloud reveals danger. She spots at least two [[Basestar (RDM)|basestars]], hundreds of Raiders and a handful of [[Cylon Reconnaissance Drone|other support ships]]. The Cylons choose not to enter the cloud, preferring to wait out the Colonials trapped inside.

*Commander Adama meets with the new President. She tries to convince Adama that she and the ships of [[The Fleet (RDM)|her caravan]] are all that is left of humanity, and that taking one battlestar off to fight against such odds is suicide. She says, "We need to get out of here and we need to start having babies," but Adama dismisses her advice.
*As Commander Adama, Captain Adama, Gaeta, and Tigh discuss their offensive options, Commander Adama sees [[Billy Keikeya]] and [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]], talking ostensibly about anything ''except'' business. Adama remembers (out loud) President Roslin's last words to him: "We'd better start having babies."
*Adama changes his mind, realizing that a counterattack is hopeless, and that all that left of humanity may be in his hands. He decides that ''Galactica'' will take the civilians with her, towards the [[Prolmar Sector]], leaving the solar system of the devastated Colonies, never to return.
*Lee Adama concurs, but the commander has to determine a way to save everyone from a direct Cylon attack.
*Not wanting to take chances with their captive, Tigh leaves Aaron Doral marooned with basic rations inside Ragnar Anchorage.
*He chooses to bring the now-fully armed ''Galactica'' just outside the cloud boundary and provide a shielding cover fire while the civilian ships [[FTL|jump]] to safety behind the battlestar.
*The [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage]] begins. The Fleet escapes, while ''Galactica'' desperately retrieves its Vipers (scrambled to aid in point defense) as quickly as possible. Apollo's Viper is struck, but Starbuck continues racking up Cylon kills while defending Apollo.
*Apollo's Viper loses all power. Commander Adama uses his [[Nothing but the rain|personal greeting]] with Starbuck to break her fighting trance and order her to the battlestar. Refusing to leave Apollo despite his orders to do so, she creatively rams the noses of the Vipers, locking them together, and flies both fighters into the [[flight pod]] of the battlestar just before they close completely in preparation for the jump.
*''Galactica'' escapes the last incoming Cylons.

===Epilogue===

*Some time later, [[The Fleet (RDM)|''Galactica'' and her new fleet]] cruise through space.
*During the [[service for the dead]], Commander Adama addresses the assembly of his crew. He uses [[Elosha|Elosha's]] knowledge about the [[Thirteenth Tribe (RDM)|Thirteenth Tribe]], telling the crew that he knows the location of [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]]. The crew's hopes are revived.
*Privately, Roslin (knowing that President [[Richard Adar|Adar]] did not know Earth's location, or believed it existed) asks Adama why she told the crew a lie. Adama admitted that it was not enough for his crew to live, but gave the notion of Earth as something to live for.
*The two agree to share leadership responsibilities; Adama is to handle all military matters, and Roslin will manage civilian and government duties for the new spacefaring civilization.
*After Commander Adama retires for the night, he finds a note typed in his room with the message, "There are only 12 Cylon models."
*Later, inside Ragnar Anchorage, several copies of Number Six, Leoben Conoy and Aaron Doral rescue the ''Galactica''-based Doral. Baltar's guess was correct: Doral was indeed a Cylon. The group discuss their current strategy and agree to chase the Fleet down.
*One final Cylon arrives, who looks exactly like ''Galactica's'' [[Number Eight|Sharon Valerii]].

The basestars are closing in and the battlestar is bombarded from all sides with no hope of survival. "It's been an honor," Adama says.
*At that moment ''Pegasus'' joins the battle, Lee Adama having disobeyed his father's orders. He opens fire with the forward batteries and incapacitates one basestar in the opening salvo. Admiral Adama orders priority repairs on the FTL drives.
*When Thrace awakens, she goes back to retrieve [[Kacey Brynn]] against Anders' advice, who soon follows her.
*The Cylons realize that they have lost and decide to evacuate the planet. [[Number Three]] volunteers to stay behind and set off the nuclear weapon that was left in the city for such a contingency. She offers Baltar a place with the Cylons and leaves.

*Kara Thrace returns to the apartment to find Kacey, and Conoy enters with the child.

*To try to regain possession of Kacey, Kara Thrace appears to give in to Leoben's demands to say "I love you." She does, and kisses him. As they embrace, Thrace uses the diversion to stab the Cylon to death. She picks up Kacey and leaves with Anders.
*Three searches [[Dodona Selloi]]'s tent, but the [[oracle]] has left. Outside, [[Caprica-Six]] and Baltar find Hera next to [[Maya]]'s lifeless body, still alive.
*Three arrives, asks to hold the child, and leaves with her. [[Caprica-Six]] says Three no longer intends to detonate the nuke, then leaves the planet with Baltar.

* The two parts of "Exodus" were originally planned as one episode. However, it was quickly realized that the story was far too large for one episode and it was split in two. It also helped save money because the construction of New Caprica, the extensive location shooting, the number of actors, as well as the special effects for "Exodus, Part II" were very expensive and the production was over budget.

*Baltar may not be aware that most of the civilians have already escaped the planet when he says, in the Gaeta-Baltar scene, "The Cylons have a nuke in this complex. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is getting off this planet alive unless I stop D'Anna."
*The Cylons are not keeping closer tabs on the whereabouts of the launch keys -- no alarms or other warning -- and don't notice that they are gone until the attack starts. Since only a Cylon could enter the facility, and as the only other Cylon (one of the Threes) is incapacitated before the attack (possibly unable to download and warn the others), this appears to be a logical omission.
*While it seems that the Cylons leave the planet implausibly under-guarded, Ron Moore has mentioned in his podcasts that the Cylons do have major operations elsewhere (possibly hinting at the search for Earth story arcs later in the series).
*With the former crew of ''Pegasus'' on ''Galactica'' now, the ship has something close to its standard crew size. (''Galactica's'' crew was deduced to be 2,693 in the episode "[[Water]]", and ''Pegasus's'' was introduced with a crew count of 1,752 in "[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]" (see [[Crew tally]]). This could indicate that there are gaps in the nebula allowing DRADIS to function, or that the Colonials developed ways to operate limited DRADIS despite the distortion.
* A key component of Adama's plan is to jump Galactica into the upper atmosphere of New Caprica. In "[[Home, Part II]]", Gaeta tells Adama that jumping the ship into the upper atmosphere of a planet isn't possible. Not only was Gaeta wrong in his assessment, but it is worth noting he is not on board this time when Adama conceives of the maneuver. *The Cylons hold fire, and [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon Valerii]] remarks that the Cylons will attempt to capture them with non-lethal weapons, such as gas.
*Eighteen hours later, they emerge to find that the Cylons have disappeared. [[Cavil]] -- who suddenly appears behind them -- announces that the Cylons have left the Twelve Colonies and that humanity is spared.

*[[Cally]] is cleared for duty by [[Cottle|Dr. Cottle]], despite having her jaw wired shut. [[Galen Tyrol|Chief Tyrol]] visits her, apologizing for the attack. Cally forgives him, saying that she's always cared for him.

*[[Gaius Baltar|Dr. Baltar]] continues to gain in the polls. On ''[[Colonial One]]'', [[Tory Foster|Tory]] mentions an alternative victory plan. [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] later calls a private meeting with Dr. Baltar, asking to deliver a joint statement of [[Wikipedia:Table (verb)|tabling]] the issue of colonization until after the election. Baltar rejects the idea.

*Roslin, fearing that she has indeed lost the presidential race, confronts [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] on whether he was with a copy of [[Number Six]] on Caprica before the Cylon attack. Baltar avoids answering the question and states that he may have [[Epiphanies|saved her life]], but he will not save her political life.

*[[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] returns to ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' with the resistance fighters, much to the delight of Admiral [[William Adama]]. She mentions the Cylon retreat from Caprica as Brother Cavil, leaving the Raptor, confirms it. He also says he has a message, but is attacked by Chief [[Galen Tyrol]], who declares a "[[Code blue]]," claiming Cavil is a Cylon. Incensed that Caprica-Valerii did not reveal Cavil's true nature earlier, Admiral Adama orders both Caprica-Valerii and the second Cavil to the brig.

*The ''Galactica''-based Cavil (from last episode) is brought to the brig, claiming he's not a Cylon, but changes his tune upon seeing his "brother", as he calls him. Caprica-Cavil then talks about the fact that the “war heroes” ([[Caprica-Six]] & [[Sharon Valerii|"Boomer" Valerii]]) have convinced their kind that the attack of the colonies and the pursuit of the fleet were mistakes. Caprica-Cavil's mission was to relay the message that man and Cylon will go their separate ways. Both Roslin and Admiral Adama are less than trusting regarding the message.

*In the brig, Caprica-Valerii is completely disillusioned and nihilistic, declaring that since her [[Hera Agathon|child's]] death, nothing -- not Adama's trust or [[Helo]]'s -- matters to her. A frustrated Helo insists that he's not giving up on her, but she seems disinclined to listen.

*Thrace and [[Samuel Anders|Anders]] are getting extremely drunk when Apollo comes in to welcome them back. Starbuck makes a snide remark about Apollo and Dualla and goes back to drunkenly making out with Anders. Apollo, clearly upset with Starbuck, leaves without saying much.

*Election Day has arrived and Baltar has an apparent five thousand-vote lead over Roslin with only five ships left to tally. On ''Colonial One'', Foster activates her alternative victory plan with a call to ''Galactica.''

*Amazingly, Roslin initially appears to have retained the presidency. While most are celebrating, Lt. [[Felix Gaeta]] discovers fraudulent actions in the vote, and informs the Admiral that Col. Tigh (who acts suspiciously when questioned by Gaeta) may be involved in a conspiracy to throw the election.

*Admiral Adama confronts Roslin regarding the conspiracy, saying that Tigh has confessed to rigging the vote. Roslin admits her involvement and Adama is disappointed. The Admiral indicates that, for good or bad, the people's vote must take precedence. Adama secretly buries the conspiracy itself while announcing the startling change in events to Dr. Baltar.

*Initially Baltar vows to have a full investigation on the vote count, but after Adama suggests that Baltar take his victory and leave matters be, Baltar relents and informs Adama that he can be quite generous in victory. President-elect Baltar then orders a course for “[[New Caprica]].”

*Baltar and Gina consummate their relationship after Gina informs Baltar that she would not be part of the colonization.

*[[Gaius Baltar]] is sworn in as the new President of the Twelve Colonies, and orders the immediate colonization of New Caprica.

*Gina activates the nuclear warhead [[Epiphanies|given to her by Baltar]] aboard ''[[Cloud 9]]''. The nuclear blast destroys ''Cloud 9'' and at least three other ships. Admiral Adama warns that this may be a prelude to a Cylon attack, but President Baltar ignores him and presses forward with colonization.

===One Year Later===

*President Baltar's administration appears to be corrupt, lax, and unresponsive. [[Felix Gaeta|Mr. Gaeta]], now the President's aide, reports issues with a worker's union. Baltar is upset, saying there have been no Cylon attacks but the people still complain. He has regressed, turning to alcohol, medication, and womanizing.

*Admiral Adama, now sporting a [[Adamastache|mustache]], walks the corridors of a near-empty ''Galactica'', which is quickly falling into disrepair. Over half of the crew have moved down onto the planet, leaving the ship so short on crew that they barely have enough pilots to fly training missions, much less form up [[Combat Air Patrol]]s. The long absence of the Cylons has left both the remaining crews aboard the [[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]] and the Galactica rusty, causing them to take a long time to go to [[Action Stations]]. Adama asks Tigh to retire from duty to join his [[Ellen Tigh|wife]] on the planet. Tigh reluctantly agrees.

*[[Samuel Anders|Anders]], now Thrace's husband, has pneumonia. Dr. Cottle is unable to treat Anders because there are no [[antibiotics]] available. He can only advise Thrace to make sure Anders gets enough rest in order to recover.

*Thrace runs into the Tighs as [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]], now a union boss, is making a speech to begin a strike, with a very pregnant Cally by his side. Col. Tigh mentions to Thrace that ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' keeps a store of backup medical supplies and that Commander [[Lee Adama]] might spring some for her. Thrace disagrees, which prompts Tigh to state that Lee Adama should be over her harsh neglect of Adama's friendship after Anders' arrival a year before.

*Roslin returns to her teaching roots, teaching the settlement's children, and manages to find enjoyment in her new position. [[Maya]] is with her, as is the now one year-old "[[Hera Agathon|Isis]]".

*Thrace calls Commander Lee Adama aboard ''Pegasus'' to request the antibiotics. [[Dualla]], ostensibly the ''Pegasus'' [[XO]], notices something on [[DRADIS]], to her horror.

*A massive fleet of [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]]s arrive in orbit around New Caprica. The Adamas discuss what to do in response, with Lee initially advocating that the remains of the orbiting Fleet [[FTL|jump]] away. Admiral Adama initially resists, but orders the Jump, vowing that they will return.

*A [[Leoben Conoy]]-model [[humanoid Cylon]] shows up at Thrace and Anders' tent, where he asks an ailing Anders about where to find Thrace.

*President Baltar surrenders on behalf of the colonists after learning that the Cylons - scouting a star system one light year from New Caprica - discovered the planet because of the nuclear explosion set off by Gina. As Cylon forces occupy the planet, Thrace vows to resist.

== Notes ==
* According to Ron Moore's podcast, although the SciFi Channel was willing to air this episode as a 90-minute special, there also exists an 60-minute version for international distribution. In some markets outside of the United States, viewers might only see the 1 hour version of the episode, which Moore regards as "almost incomprehensible". Many plot threads, such as the entire Cally/Tyrol subplot, were completely removed for the one hour version. However, it appears that most non-American television stations also show the full version.

*In the podcast previous episode, he says that in early drafts of this special 90 minute long episode, the writers actually tried to make it a 2 hour special, but this was soon dropped (these times are including commercials).

*The election board appears to have a definitive list of the names of all of the ships in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. Not all of them are clearly visible, but this means that the writers do have an actual list that they get new ship names from.
**In fact, several ships from this list are mentioned by name in later episodes. For example ''[[Faru Sadin]]'', ''[[Chrion]]'', ''[[Thera Sita]]'', ''[[Demetrius]]'', ''[[Cybele]]'', ''[[Inchon Velle]]'', ''[[Hitei Kan]]'', ''[[Aurora (ship)|Aurora]]'' and ''[[Pyxis]]''.

*There were no Quorum or other local elections. The box of fake ballots from the Zephyr and the vote tally board for all of the ships contained only the names "Roslin" and "Baltar". The names of vice-presidential candidates, if any, were not on the ballots.

*Admiral Adama watches [[pyramid (RDM)|Pyramid]] games and was a fan of the [[Picon Panthers]].

*The framed photo of President Roslin and [[Billy Keikeya]] is still on Roslin's desk during the election.

*When Roslin "won" the rigged election results, Roslin received 24,265 votes, while Baltar recieved 22,266. This means that the eligible voters in the Fleet number at least 46,531. In the podcast, Ron Moore explains that he quickly came up with these numbers, to try to reflect roughly how many survivors are below the voting age.

*Toward the end of the episode, President Baltar refers to a government body called the "People's Council". This may be the proportionally elected lower house mentioned by Ron Moore in his [http://blog.scifi.com/battlestar/archives/2005/01/index.html#a000016 blog post] on January 30, 2005.

*[[Hera Agathon]] is seen on New Caprica in the same white cradle that Baltar had a vision of her being in in "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]" and "[[Scattered]]". According to Ron Moore's podcast it is actually the exact same cradle.

*Tyrol's union speech is an almost word for word quote of Mario Savio's address during the Free Speech Movement at Berkeley in 1964. According to Ron Moore and David Eick in the podcast, they even got permission from Savio's widow to use it (even though, due to the way copyright laws work from back then, they could have just used it without permission, they felt they should get it). As a result, it's even listed in the credits: "Mario Savio speech excerpted courtesy of: Lynne Hollander Savio". Actor Aaron Douglas (Chief [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]]) actually studied film of Savio, so all of the hand gestures Tyrol makes when he gives the speech are gestures that Savio actually used.

*Baltar's portrait of himself does not have the 'cut corners' as seen in almost all other papers and photos in the show. Neither do the other framed pictures in the presidential office aboard ''Colonial One'', nor the papers in the classroom on New Caprica.

* The story of the Fleet settling on New Caprica and being overrun by the Cylons is eerily similar to the story of the first episode of [[Battlestar Galactica (SDS)|Singer and DeSanta's revival attempt]]. The shot of Roslin teaching kids the history of the Colonies is also a, possibly unintentional, reference to that.

*It is ironic that the obligations of duty keep [[Lee Adama]] aboard ''[[Pegasus]]'' while everyone else goes planet-side. He is a reserve officer, and promised to build his pilots a bar as soon as they found a habitable planet.
**It is possible the bar was built and a bar area is seen in "[[Unfinished Business]]".
*Apparently, [[Kara Thrace|Thrace's]] comments about Lee Adama and [[Dualla]] have taken their toll on their relationship. She was not a flight student, nor was this a typical "battlefield commission" of an outstanding sergeant in recognition of outstanding leadership; she was a so-called "desk jockey" who rarely supervised or led anyone. Moreover, her commission came at a time of a massive demobilization of the colonial military. In real-world militaries, reductions in force typically result in many officers being forced to accept enlisted rank as a condition of staying in service, rather than enlisted personnel being commissioned. There are at least two explanations.
**[[William Adama|Adama]] could have commissioned her in order to ensure her silence about the details of the rigged election which, despite his lack of involvement in, he wished to leave forgotten and unexamined. As a lieutenant, she had much more to lose by talking about it and was reassured that she would not be made a scapegoat.
**Alternatively, Admiral Adama knew of the seriousness of Dualla's relationship with Lee and made her an officer before they became public. A commissioned officer - particularly a ''commanding'' officer and the son of the supreme commander - openly and notoriously bedding a junior enlisted soldier would have been severely detrimental to discipline and morale, and not something to which Adama could have turned a blind eye as he had the the Tyrol-Valerii coupling.
:Exactly who would have had the legal authority to grant commissions at that point is also not known. In the real-life United States, regular commissions (vice temporary "battlefield" commissions permitted under special circumstances in war zones) are issued by the President, with the consent of the Senate (to be sure, it is essentially a "rubber stamp" processing of the list provided by the individual services, but that was not so much the case in the era of a small standing military). It is possible that [[Felix Gaeta]], as senior advisor to the President, arranged for the commission as a gift to his former colleague; this is made less likely, however, by his disapproval of the election fraud.
*In the "one year later" segment, most of the regular characters appear more or less as they did prior to the settlement, with two exceptions: Admiral Adama now sports a moustache (possibly a nod to Olmos' famous Castillo character in ''Miami Vice''), and Lee Adama appears noticeably heavier (which becomes a plot point in [[Occupation]]).

*The events of the Cylon invasion and occupation of New Caprica were, according to Ron Moore, inspired by the 1940 German invasion of France and the subsequent collaborationist [[Wikipedia:Vichy France|Vichy regime]].
*After a year, everyone still lives in tents. Shortages of medicine abound, the military is of no use, and labor conditions are apparently intolerable. Baltar's administration is apparently as incompetent as Roslin feared, when she said he was ridiculously unqualified and had no idea how to be president. It is not clear to what extent these conditions are the result of administrative incompetence or the inherent difficulties of colonizing a marginally habitable planet.
*The population of New Caprica City is given as 39,192. There were just under 50,000 people in the Fleet before establishing the settlement, with the difference being due to the people remaining on the ships in orbit (roughly 2,200 military personnel and 2,000 civilians) and those having died in the nuclear explosion on ''Cloud Nine'' or later from accidents and the harsh conditions on New Caprica (calculated at about 5,700 to 6,200, offset by births during the first year). See the ''Precipe'' section on [[Survivor Count]] for details.
*Any "industrial" vessels - such as the mining ships, tanker ships, repair ships, agricultural ships - would have landed on the planet and been dismebarked, dismantled, or converted to form the foundation for industrial efforts. Some of the vessels in the Fleet that left [[Ragnar Anchorage]] were not designed for prolonged interstellar journeys, and were basically running on a hope and a prayer, and would have been rendered promptly upon finding a more permanent home. The nineteen-or-so ships seen are, more than likely, the last space-worthy vessels in the fleet that are not needed (or capable of landing) planet-side.
**After a year, people are still living in tents and using landed ships as buildings, so it does not look like much has been dismantled or converted into raw production. Other than the miners, who are apparently extremely unhappy at how things have been run, we see little evidence of industry or production over the year.

*According to Ron Moore's podcast, the events of "One Year Later" are real and were meant to solidify to the audience that the show is taking a path that cannot be reversed. In order to make the colonization of New Caprica real, Moore felt that the show would need to jump ahead in a span of year to show that indeed Baltar has followed through with his political promise.
*In the podcast for "[[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]" Ron Moore comments on how everyone assumed that ''Pegasus'' would be destroyed by the end of the episode, and thus he thought it would be a good twist to keep ''Pegasus'' alive as another ship in the Fleet. Speculators mistakenly assumed that the nuke that Baltar gave to Gina in "[[Epiphanies]]" would be used to destroy ''Pegasus'' (keeping in tune with the assumed destruction of the [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Original Series]] ''[[Pegasus (TOS)|Pegasus'']]).
*Twenty-nine people died between this episode and the preceding one. One or two Raptors were lost, and some Marines died on Caprica, but that doesn't seem high enough to account for this loss. Even if more people died during the attack on Caprica than shown, losses should be offset by the rescued resistance fighters.
* The Cylons were slightly over a light year away, according to the Number Five at the surrender. The radiation from the nuclear explosion on ''[[Cloud 9]]'' would, of course, only be traveling at the speed of light. There is inconclusive evidence whether the Cylon download process is limited to the speed of light or not. While it is likely that it is, an FTL capability in this area would indicate that [[Gina Inviere]] didn't manage to download. It should be noted that comments by the writers and subsequent episodes point out that she is truly dead.
*Initially it remains open whether Roslin's threat to 'airlock' two Cavils was actually carried out. This is answered in a [[List of Deleted Scenes - Season 2 (RDM)#Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|deleted scene]]. During their drinking scene, Tyrol tells Cally that the execution happened the previous night. It is later seen carried out in ''[[The Plan]]''.
*In the Season 3 trailer that followed the end of the episode, Six narrates, saying that humanity has finally surrendered and the war is over. According to Six, the Cylons can finally fulfill their "''true destiny''" and take care of humanity. They desire to show humanity the "''glory of peace''," mercy; like God, their mercy can only be matched by their power and complete control. So apparently, the war heroes have indeed changed the Cylons' prejudices toward humans, but unfortunately this also means that the Cylons believe that the only way to care for humanity is to control it.
**This narrative sounds more like Baltar's [[Virtual Six|internal Six]] (superior, controlling, zealous) than Caprica-Six (who is more of a people person).

The webisodes can be viewed through the official [http://video.syfy.com/shows/battlestar/the_resistance web portal] at [http://www.syfy.com/ Syfy.com].

The webisode series was written by ''Battlestar Galactica'' veterans [[Bradley Thompson]] and [[David Weddle]], and directed by [[Wayne Rose]]. The entire series is 27 minutes long in total, divided into 10 episodes. While the Webisodes are included in the [[Battlestar Galactica - Season Three (Region 1 DVD)|Region 1 DVD]] boxset of Season 3, they are not included in the [[Battlestar Galactica - Season Three (Region 2 DVD)|Region 2]] version. They are, however, included on all Blu-ray releases.

In particular, the Webisodes chronicle [[Duck]]'s and [[Jammer]]'s motivations to become suicide-bomber and collaborator, respectively.

Tyrol and Tigh organize the budding resistance movement on Cylon-occupied New Caprica, but they find recruiting new soldiers is becoming dangerous and difficult. The Cylons have instituted a curfew. Violators go to jail, which was the very first building that the Cylons built on [[New Caprica]] following their arrival. New Capricans are shot on the spot if weapons are found in their tents. A stash of weapons belonging to [[Longo]] was confiscated by the Cylons, but the Resistance was able to retrieve some of them, which were hidden beneath his latrine. The Cylons are also setting up a [[New Caprica Police|human police force]] to take over for the [[Cylon Centurion]]s, who are doing most of the police work.

[[Duck]] has refused to work with the Resistance, on the grounds of his relationship and intended child with [[Nora Farmer]]. Tyrol is highly displeased at this, particularly his reasons, as they parallel Tyrol's own situation; however, Jammer suggests respecting Duck's decision, instead.

A ritual for protection of the crops from blight is said in the temple. As Sister [[Tivenan]] leaves, [[Jean Barolay]] abruptly shifts the conversation to the movement of the weapons stash into the [[temple]]; [[Jammer]] strongly objects, but he is overruled by Tigh.

In the evening, Nora prays to [[Aphrodite]] to bless she and Duck with a child. He tells her his decision about joining the Resistance. She is pleased that he refused Tyrol.

During the night, Tigh, Tyrol, Jammer, and Barolay move the weapons into the temple, disguising them as the base of an altar.

The next morning, Nora wakes Duck, saying he will be late to work. She tries to convince him to go to temple after work with her. He refuses, saying he talks to the gods in his own way.

[[Cally]] and [[Nora Farmer|Nora]] visit the temple. Nora is holding Cally's baby, while Cally is performing a ceremony. At that moment, [[Centurion (RDM)|Centurion]]s can be heard outside, and a [[Number Five]] announces that they will enter the temple. Several men try to block them, but the Cylons force their way in, and gunfire can be seen and heard. While trying to run away, Cally falls to the ground while protecting her baby, but Nora is shot and killed when she tries to retrieve her bag, containing fresh vegetables.

He becomes angry, and demands to know if there were weapons in the temple. Tyrol tries to avoid the question, but Duck doesn't relent until Tyrol admits the truth. At that point, Duck orders them out of his tent.

Three days after the attack on the temple, Tigh, Barolay, and Jammer discuss the results of the attack, which has brought about positive effects for the Resistance. The general population has started to side with the Resistance, and 1,000 people protested outside ''[[Colonial One]]'' over the attack on the temple. Since the attack, recruitment has become easier, with 150 Colonials signing up over three days' time. Tigh thinks that this was a good exchange, because the loss of a few weapons was worth the propaganda victory. However, Jammer is upset that the loss of ten innocent lives was not worth it. Tigh comes down hard on Jammer, stating that people die in war, nice people, and the Resistance has no room for crybabies.

[[James Lyman|Jammer]] is released from the [[New Caprica Detention Center]] and is met outside by [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]]. Tyrol notes that he was informed of Jammer's arrest by [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]], and then asks him what he told the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]]. Jammer nervously explains that the Toasters questioned him about the [[temple]] massacre. Jammer reassures Tyrol that he did not tell the Cylons anything, but Tyrol appears doubtful.

Meanwhile, [[Tucker Clellan|Duck]] returns to his tent, and begins to clean up the mess from his earlier outburst. He breaks down into tears while gathering up a flipped-over picture of himself and [[Nora Farmer|Nora]], and an icon of one of the [[Lords of Kobol]].

After the [[dedication ceremony]] for [[Galen Tyrol|Galen]] and [[Cally Tyrol]]'s [[Nicholas Tyrol|son]], [[Tucker Clellan|Duck]] approaches Tyrol in the [[temple]]. Duck informs Tyrol that he has joined the [[New Caprica Police]], in hopes of finding out who tipped the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] off, and whoever is responsible for [[Nora Farmer|Nora]]'s death.

Afterwards, Tyrol meets in the backroom with [[Saul Tigh]], [[James Lyman|Jammer]] and [[Jean Barolay]] to discuss their next move against the Cylons. Tigh suggests hiding explosives in the grain silo, which Jammer points out is across from the hospital. When Tigh shows a lack of concern for the patients' safety, Jammer excuses himself "to patrol the perimeter."

Outside, Duck is smoking and examining his new NCP patch. He puts it away when Jammer comes out, and the two friends share a smoke together. Jammer notices that Duck said he was going to quit, to which Duck says, "What frakking difference does it make now?", and leaves. Once alone, Jammer sits quietly, and reaches into his pocket to find the Cylon device [[Number Five]] gave him. After examining it, he rises and marches off toward the [[New Caprica Detention Center]].

In an interview covering the WGA picket line on November 6, 2007, [[Ron D. Moore]] indicated that NBC-Universal had wanted to produce a series of online webisodes, but didn't want to pay anyone for it, seeing as they considered such things as promotional material and were not actually covered under the Writers Guild of America contract. The ''Battlestar Galactica'' writing team embraced the new story opportunity, but other NBC-Universal series such as ''The Office'' felt that webisodes were nothing but extra filler they were being forced to crank out.

According to Bradley Thompson, the webisodes were originally meant to be aired once a week (in much the same fashion as the [[Razor Flashbacks]] that precede the airing of "[[Razor]]"), for the 10 weeks preceding the Season 3 premiere on October 6th. This would have resulted in the webisodes premiering in mid-August. However, their release was delayed due to a the aforementioned labor dispute between the Writer's Guild of America and NBC-Universal regarding extra pay for the writers doing the webisodes, despite the fact that they were mostly completed.

The WGA is concerned about the long-term implications of online content: writers are not specifically compensated for their work on them, and NBC-Uni might argue that they have no claim on redistribution profits if they try to classify it as "promotional" material. By August 2006 the negotiations between the WGA and NBC-Uni broke down, and the WGA ordered all series producing webisodes (such as ''Battlestar Galactica'' and ''The Office'') to refuse to physically deliver the webisodes to NBC-Uni for distribution online. NBC-Universal, who produces both shows, has filed a complaint with National Labor Relations Board, claiming that this writing is included in the current WGA contract and urging the NLRB to make the series release the material.

However, several weeks later the finished webisodes were taken by NBC-Uni, who did not resolve the issue of crediting the writers or people who produced the webisodes.<ref name="eonline"/> Thus Ron Moore took it upon himself to credit the people responsible via his blog on the official SCIFI Channel website.

The first of ten webisodes were released on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, and subsequent installments were released every Tuesday and Thursday until the Season 3 premiere on October 6, 2006.

The webisode series was written by ''Battlestar Galactica'' veterans [[Bradley Thompson]] and [[David Weddle]], and directed by [[Wayne Rose]]. The entire series is 27 minutes long in total, divided into 10 episodes. While the Webisodes are included in the [[Battlestar Galactica - Season Three (Region 1 DVD)|Region 1 DVD]] boxset of Season 3, they are not included in the [[Battlestar Galactica - Season Three (Region 2 DVD)|Region 2]] version. They are, however, included on all Blu-ray releases.

In particular, the Webisodes chronicle [[Duck]]'s and [[Jammer]]'s motivations to become suicide-bomber and collaborator, respectively.

Tyrol and Tigh organize the budding resistance movement on Cylon-occupied New Caprica, but they find recruiting new soldiers is becoming dangerous and difficult. The Cylons have instituted a curfew. Violators go to jail, which was the very first building that the Cylons built on [[New Caprica]] following their arrival. New Capricans are shot on the spot if weapons are found in their tents. A stash of weapons belonging to [[Longo]] was confiscated by the Cylons, but the Resistance was able to retrieve some of them, which were hidden beneath his latrine. The Cylons are also setting up a [[New Caprica Police|human police force]] to take over for the [[Cylon Centurion]]s, who are doing most of the police work.

[[Duck]] has refused to work with the Resistance, on the grounds of his relationship and intended child with [[Nora Farmer]]. Tyrol is highly displeased at this, particularly his reasons, as they parallel Tyrol's own situation; however, Jammer suggests respecting Duck's decision, instead.

A ritual for protection of the crops from blight is said in the temple. As Sister [[Tivenan]] leaves, [[Jean Barolay]] abruptly shifts the conversation to the movement of the weapons stash into the [[temple]]; [[Jammer]] strongly objects, but he is overruled by Tigh.

In the evening, Nora prays to [[Aphrodite]] to bless she and Duck with a child. He tells her his decision about joining the Resistance. She is pleased that he refused Tyrol.

During the night, Tigh, Tyrol, Jammer, and Barolay move the weapons into the temple, disguising them as the base of an altar.

The next morning, Nora wakes Duck, saying he will be late to work. She tries to convince him to go to temple after work with her. He refuses, saying he talks to the gods in his own way.

[[Cally]] and [[Nora Farmer|Nora]] visit the temple. Nora is holding Cally's baby, while Cally is performing a ceremony. At that moment, [[Centurion (RDM)|Centurion]]s can be heard outside, and a [[Number Five]] announces that they will enter the temple. Several men try to block them, but the Cylons force their way in, and gunfire can be seen and heard. While trying to run away, Cally falls to the ground while protecting her baby, but Nora is shot and killed when she tries to retrieve her bag, containing fresh vegetables.

Tyrol, Cally, and Jammer return Nora's bag to Duck, and inform him about the death of Nora. Duck is physically sickened by the news. He becomes angry, and demands to know if there were weapons in the temple. Tyrol tries to avoid the question, but Duck doesn't relent until Tyrol admits the truth. At that point, Duck orders them out of his tent.

Three days after the attack on the temple, Tigh, Barolay, and Jammer discuss the results of the attack, which has brought about positive effects for the Resistance. The general population has started to side with the Resistance, and 1,000 people protested outside ''[[Colonial One]]'' over the attack on the temple. Since the attack, recruitment has become easier, with 150 Colonials signing up over three days' time. Tigh thinks that this was a good exchange, because the loss of a few weapons was worth the propaganda victory. However, Jammer is upset that the loss of ten innocent lives was not worth it. Tigh comes down hard on Jammer, stating that people die in war, nice people, and the Resistance has no room for crybabies.

Jammer balks at the idea of becoming a [[New Caprica Police|traitor]] to the Resistance, but accepts a key-card which will let him enter the Cylon detention center to report the Resistance's secret plans, if he chooses to become an informant.

[[James Lyman|Jammer]] is released from the [[New Caprica Detention Center]] and is met outside by [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]]. Tyrol notes that he was informed of Jammer's arrest by [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]], and then asks him what he told the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]]. Jammer nervously explains that the Toasters questioned him about the [[temple]] massacre. Jammer reassures Tyrol that he did not tell the Cylons anything, but Tyrol appears doubtful.

Meanwhile, [[Tucker Clellan|Duck]] returns to his tent, and begins to clean up the mess from his earlier outburst. He breaks down into tears while gathering up a flipped-over picture of himself and [[Nora Farmer|Nora]], and an icon of one of the [[Lords of Kobol]].

After the [[dedication ceremony]] for [[Galen Tyrol|Galen]] and [[Cally Tyrol]]'s [[Nicholas Tyrol|son]], [[Tucker Clellan|Duck]] approaches Tyrol in the [[temple]]. Duck informs Tyrol that he has joined the [[New Caprica Police]], in hopes of finding out who tipped the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] off, and whoever is responsible for [[Nora Farmer|Nora]]'s death.

Afterwards, Tyrol meets in the backroom with [[Saul Tigh]], [[James Lyman|Jammer]] and [[Jean Barolay]] to discuss their next move against the Cylons. Tigh suggests hiding explosives in the grain silo, which Jammer points out is across from the hospital. When Tigh shows a lack of concern for the patients' safety, Jammer excuses himself "to patrol the perimeter."

Outside, Duck is smoking and examining his new NCP patch. He puts it away when Jammer comes out, and the two friends share a smoke together. Jammer notices that Duck said he was going to quit, to which Duck says, "What frakking difference does it make now?", and leaves. Once alone, Jammer sits quietly, and reaches into his pocket to find the Cylon device [[Number Five]] gave him. After examining it, he rises and marches off toward the [[New Caprica Detention Center]].

In an interview covering the WGA picket line on November 6, 2007, [[Ron D. Moore]] indicated that NBC-Universal had wanted to produce a series of online webisodes, but didn't want to pay anyone for it, seeing as they considered such things as promotional material and were not actually covered under the Writers Guild of America contract. The ''Battlestar Galactica'' writing team embraced the new story opportunity, but other NBC-Universal series such as ''The Office'' felt that webisodes were nothing but extra filler they were being forced to crank out.

According to Bradley Thompson, the webisodes were originally meant to be aired once a week (in much the same fashion as the [[Razor Flashbacks]] that precede the airing of "[[Razor]]"), for the 10 weeks preceding the Season 3 premiere on October 6th. This would have resulted in the webisodes premiering in mid-August. However, their release was delayed due to a the aforementioned labor dispute between the Writer's Guild of America and NBC-Universal regarding extra pay for the writers doing the webisodes, despite the fact that they were mostly completed.

The WGA is concerned about the long-term implications of online content: writers are not specifically compensated for their work on them, and NBC-Uni might argue that they have no claim on redistribution profits if they try to classify it as "promotional" material. By August 2006 the negotiations between the WGA and NBC-Uni broke down, and the WGA ordered all series producing webisodes (such as ''Battlestar Galactica'' and ''The Office'') to refuse to physically deliver the webisodes to NBC-Uni for distribution online. NBC-Universal, who produces both shows, has filed a complaint with National Labor Relations Board, claiming that this writing is included in the current WGA contract and urging the NLRB to make the series release the material.

However, several weeks later the finished webisodes were taken by NBC-Uni, who did not resolve the issue of crediting the writers or people who produced the webisodes.<ref name="eonline"/> Thus Ron Moore took it upon himself to credit the people responsible via his blog on the official SCIFI Channel website.

The first of ten webisodes were released on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, and subsequent installments were released every Tuesday and Thursday until the Season 3 premiere on October 6, 2006.

I'm pretty sure the dimensions listed are incorrect, what is the source for them?
Reson being, Length is listed as "Approx 8.7M", which is only slightly larger than the New Series Viper MkII at 8.4M. However, a casual comparison of the cockpits of each would seem to indicate, even with a cramped compartment, the Original Series Viper should be at least 25%-30% larger than the New Series Viper.
: I've just remembered reading something that Susan Paxton discovered about the Viper mockups and the actual Viper models built by Apogee not being scaled correctly. As for the actual measurements, I believe they came from a warbook entry in "Living Legend, Part I", where Sheba and Bojay come across Apollo and Starbuck. Okay, I just went and messed around with a couple 3D models I have and put together this[url=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v341/HandofBobb/Vipers.jpg]comparison[/url].
Now, granted, these are fan-made models, but they're fairly accurate, and correspond to most toy/model images I can find. The pilot figure in both cases is the same Poser model, Michael 3, at the same scale. As you can see, even with the Original Series Viper at roughly 130%, he's pretty cramped in there, while there's plenty of room in the new Viper. -[[HandofBobb]]

I'll easily concede that the 3d meshes aren't entirely accurate, but according to that article "To begin with, the sfx model is several scale feet longer than the Monogram viper"- which means there would be even MORE of a difference in lengths.
Again, my original claim was based on a simple visual comparison of the cockpit sizes in relation the the length of the nose, I was simply using the 3d models to illustrate that point. I also have two of the licensed figures on my desk, and though they are the same 'size' it's readily apparent that they are not 'in scale' with each other.

Actually, I just pulled up my 3d model of the Original Viper, and it actually has two of the features which that article points to the monogram model missing:
"the sfx viper’s nose seems to have a very subtle curve leading into the nose intake"
"The laser cannon on the sfx viper are almost mounted evenly between the top and bottom of the fuselage"

On a sunny beach, Gaius praises Six for returning to him in his time of need, and states that he enjoys having conversations with her. Six implores him to learn anything and everything about the Cylons, as he will need the information in the days ahead. Baltar presses Six again to tell him what she is, either a hallucination or the result of some sort of implant - Six tells Baltar, again, that she is an angel of God.
*Having been allowed to stay on the [[basestar]], [[Caprica-Six]] and [[Three]] talk with Baltar later on, inquiring about the location of [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]]. Baltar initially denies having any knowledge of where Earth is, but then reveals that he does have clues as to where its probable location is. He then finds out that the [[Cylons]] intend to find Earth so they can use it as their new home.
*Offscreen, Baltar gives the Cylons the same information about the "lion's head" nebula that Gaeta deciphered on ''Galactica'', and a basestar is sent to investigate.

He asks whether they would recognize one of the others, but their conversation is interrupted by Three before she can answer.

The group head to a control center, where Baltar finds out that the missing basestar has been infected by [[Lymphocytic encephalitis|a disease]]. Since the writers felt that Thrace would still be too scarred from her ordeal with Leoben, that storyline was changed and became the episode's B-plot. The title still refers to the differences between the people who escaped New Caprica and those who stayed behind ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion Season Three]]).
*Lee Adama's rapid weight loss was not intended to play out like shown. He was supposed to join the Marines and become a spartan soldier, which did not work out however. When the writers realized that they didn't know what to do with the storyline, it was wrapped up quickly (Season 3 Companion).

If Red Team is composed entirely of pilots who didn't get any flying experience during the colonization of New Caprica, this could indicate that he settled on the planet. This setup of the groups can't be confirmed, but is somewhat implied by Kat's "Let's show these lazy fraks how it's done".
*Gaeta appears to have inherited Baltar's mantle as the scientific adviser (it is unclear whether he holds any additional positions), and is focusing his efforts on refining a course for Earth.
*Following her actions during the [[Battle of New Caprica]], Sharon Agathon seems to have garnered some degree of acceptance among the ''Galactica'' air group, including humorous, even affectionate choices for her callsign by fellow pilots.
*"Athena" is the name of [[Athena (TOS)|Adama's daughter]] in the [[Original Series]]. Sharon Agathon has gained (at this point) a daughter-like trust equal to that which William Adama once gave Kara Thrace before this episode.
