I was just reading over the communique Brad just sent us, where he tells us that "Into the West" is not actually an episode of the fourth season, and I might know what happened. Apparently the source for the name of the episode comes from this report from an on-set reporter who glanced over a random script laying around, with the title "Into the West" on it back in June. With a little bit of research I discovered that frequent Battlestar director Sergio Mimica-Gezzan recently worked on project for Stephen Spielberg called "Into the West", and the writer for TV Addict might have glanced over one of Sergio's scripts. --OrionFour 03:57, 30 November 2007 (CST)
Two-parter?
According to imdb.com, this episode is the first half of a two-parter, which means "Guess What's Coming to Dinner part 2" will air next week, and Sine Qua Non airs only after that. Is that true? Do you have any information on this? -- Freevo 18:38, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
: Well, it's a two-parter in the sense that there'll be a conclusion. However, the second part is "Sine Qua Non". Also, don't trust IMDb with new information... they for every one thing they get right, there are two to five things that are completely wrong, particularly for content that hasn't aired yet. (For instance, all the episodes for season 4.0 were credited as being written by RDM, when that isn't the case.) -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 18:55, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
I filled the gaps in the guest cast best I could, but there are two last names I'm not positive about because it took some detective work just to make out the most of the names in the closing credits. I believe the penultimate is Craig Veroni - a Vancouver actor. The last appears to be Lee Jeffery (or Jeffrey) who has ties to the show... at least according to IMDb. == Baltar and Gaeta ==

I disagree with this analysis in the article:

"Gaius Baltar is also drawn to see Gaeta, but the two do not interact; he is out of Gaeta's view and listening to him singing, suggesting that Baltar may have forgiven Gaeta for perjuring himself at Baltar's trial and for the earlier murder attempt."

I think that it's unreasonable to infer that from such a short scene with no dialogue between the characters. Should it be removed? FredTheDeadHead 09:36, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

: More than likely, the two don't interact. Otherwise, Gaeta would have been clearly agitated, given that Gaeta:

# perjured himself on the stand in an attempt to secure a guilty plea for Baltar that Roslin and Tigh had failed to do so;
# stabbed Baltar in the neck.
Mark Verheiden reports on his blog that David Weddle and Bradley Thompson are writing this episode. I've updated the article accordingly. :I don't think writers need to be cited, though we can add a footnote if anyone feels the need. Diana Seelix and Sam Anders' callsigns are mentioned as "Longshot" and "Hardball", I just can't figure out which is which. Anyone know what's what? -- Noneofyourbusiness 02:09, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
:I don't recall hearing those callsigns, but Seelix has been confirmed as Hardball since as far back as October. --Mars 02:44, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
:: "Longshot" isn't Anders' callsign... He mixed up the callsigns when he was trying to cover Tally... The video for the entire episode is here if you want to check it out. -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 02:49, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
:::Oh. Now I've got that. The first two times I must have thought that "Tally" was jargon. He must have one, of course. Where does "Hotshot" come from? -- Noneofyourbusiness 03:57, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Now someone entered that Athena called Anders "C-Buck" on his article. That can only happen during their scene on the hangar deck, but I don't hear anything like that. She says. "Hey rook. Stay cool out there, alright. You'll lock on/in and do what you've been trained to do. Come on." -- Serenity 12:49, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
: Yeah, I was listening out for callsigns and the like. I have never heard "C-Buck" once in the episode... ::Ok. I have listened to it. After further review I hear "Longshot, Tally. I got your back". Directly afterwards I can hear crystal clear that Anders says "Selix, you got a raider on your back." So going back to how sub sections communicate, "Conn. Weapons. :::Here's what I heard of the wireless exchange between Seelix and Anders:
::::Anders: Longshot, I got the ... Tally! I've got your back.
:::IMO, the conversation goes
::::Seelix: Longshot (Anders), [this is] Hardball (Seelix) ... turkey (Cylon missile) right four low at three ... committing (engaging).
::::Anders: Longshot, I got the (he is either identifying himself, or winces because he realizes he just called Seelix by his own callsign and/or has trouble assembling proper fighter shorthand) ... Tally (I see your target)! I've got your back.
:::So I'd put my hat into Longshot being Anders's callsign. If there is indeed a third pilot with the callsign "Tally", you'd figure the pilot would have acknowledged over wireless.-- Fredmdbud 03:15, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
::::Well, you've convinced me. Yeah, seems that "Longshot" is his callsign. :::::Besides, what's the point in giving someone a callsign ("Tally") that is identical to the popular jargon word used by pilots every now and then? ==Thrace's claims discussion==

Alpha Centauri's triple star system contains 1 star, Proxima Centauri, which is a 'flare star', capable of changing its luminosity in seconds (more akin to the flashing behaviour described by Starbuck). Another interesting factor is that the name of the constellation, Centaurus, refers to the half-man, half-horse mythological figure, which is also the figure represented by Saggitarus (the statue on the tomb of Athena on which the Arrow of Apollo was placed to reveal the path to Earth).
Although the triple stars of Alpha Centauri cannot be seen from Earth neither it is possible to see the rings of the outer solar system's planets. What seems more likely is that Starbuck saw both the rings and the triple star on her way back to the Ionian Nebula.
Overview
: The prospect of a truce between the remnants of humanity and the Cylons encourages Kara Thrace to trust an old enemy.

Summary
On Galactica
* Gaius Baltar listens to the laments of Phoebe, who lost her two children on Picon, as well as her husband, during the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. She is angered by the fact that all this happened and that the Gods did nothing to spite the people who were responsible for the attack, such as the politicians, programmers, and corporations. Baltar, surrounded by his followers, makes a speech (which is recorded and broadcast over the wireless) about how the Gods failed to come to their aid not because they didn't want to, but because the Lords of Kobol don't exist.
* Galen Tyrol is listening to Baltar's broadcast while exercising with a jumping rope, but turns it off eventually. Nicholas begins crying, so Tyrol turns it on again, which apparently soothes the child.
*Later, Tyrol silently stands in the launch tube where his wife died and is joined by Tory Foster. Foster tell him that it might never make sense, no matter how long he obsesses over it. Tyrol can't believe that she would commit suicide, despite taking anti-depressants and that she would leave her son behind. Foster tells him to let it go and brings up the possibility that she might have known that he is a Cylon.
*After having sex with Foster, Baltar wonders if she is telling Roslin about what he does. She affirms, but says that the politicians have bigger things to worry about than him, and that only inconsequential people from the fringe of society are drawn to him.
* Later, Tyrol hears another of Baltar's sermons and heads down to the commune. There he listens, but is pulled aside by Colonel Tigh, who scowls and scoffs Tyrol for not getting over Cally's death quickly. Tyrol is told that he needs to get over Cally's death before they are outed as Cylons. Tyrol retorts that Tigh isn't dealing well with their situation either and that he knows that Tigh has been spending time with Caprica-Six.
*After Tigh leaves, Baltar calls out Tyrol, saying that he's sorry for his loss. Tyrol becomes furious, saying that Baltar is a scumbag and that, for some reason, Cally liked him and his manifesto and his dead. Baltar doesn't raise to the bait and asks Tyrol to shake his hand. However, Tyrol grabs him by the throat. Baltar's followers pull him away and Tyrol leaves after shouting "you didn't know her!".
* Back in his quarters, he becomes furious, takes a pistol from a shelf and briefly contemplates to kill himself. Later, when Tyrol lies awake in bed, Baltar visits him and apologizes for the things he said about Cally. He also tells Tyrol, that he committed many crimes and accepted his religious role as his only remaining chance of redemption. Tyrol listens silently, but eventually takes Baltar's hand when he offers it again.

On the Demetrius
* On day 58 of their mission, Kara Thrace unexpectedly decides to join the Combat Air Patrol, although this usually is beyond her duty as captain. With Brendan "Hot Dog" Costanza as her wingman, Thrace (in Seelix's Viper) encounters a heavily damaged Heavy Raider that just appeared on their DRADIS. Both are unsure of what course of action to take, until Leoben Conoy hails them over the wireless, offering them a truce between Cylons and humans and a chance for Thrace to fulfill her "journey".
* After allowing the Heavy Raider to dock, Conoy tells Thrace that the ones he left behind on the baseship need her help, but also that the Hybrid can help them. Although the crew doesn't find any explosives or tracking devices in the Raider, they are suspicious of Conoy.
* However, Thrace has Conoy escorted to her quarters, where he aims to help her until Samuel Anders sees how physically close they are and assaults Conoy. He fights with him until the Marines drag Conoy away to lock him up in a closet.
*Anders visits Conoy there to ask him what he wants from Thrace. He tells that Anders that he wants to understand her destiny, which Anders doesn't consider good enough. Conoy replies that it is good enough for Thrace and that Anders might have his own destiny, beyond his relatively inconsequential life as a Pyramid player. Conoy's words disturb Anders, who fears Conoy may know of his Cylon nature. Conoy also repeats his offer of a truce and that they can find Earth, the "promised land", together.
* On the bridge, Sharon Agathon and others express their concern that Thrace cannot be trusted, and that they have to meet up with the Fleet to refuel. Moreover, Admiral Adama made it clear that if the ship didn't return by then, they would be considered lost.
* Karl Agathon defends Starbuck's authority, but out of concern orders a more thorough for tracking devices and other potential issues. Gunnery Sergeant Mathias dons a spacesuit and conducts an inspection of the hull, but is blown away and killed after the reactor on the ship goes critical.
* After her death, Thrace makes a speech to the ship's crew in the mess hall, saying that sometimes people die senseless deaths, but that she is responsible for Mathias's death and has to live with it. She it trying to concede that she may have been a bad and difficult to deal with captain, but can't find the words. Felix Gaeta tries to come to her aid, by telling her that the rendezvous coordinates with the Fleet have been laid in, but Thrace against insists to meet with Conoy's basestar.
* At this, Eammon Pike becomes openly hostile and riles everyone up against Thrace's order, believing that her course of action will get them killed too. Captain Agathon offers him a chance to walk away, but when Pike continues, he pistol whips him into unconsciousness.
* Later, on the bridge, she orders the crew to spin up the FTL drives and prepare to jump to the Cylon rebel's basestar. Captain Agathon refuses, which leads her to promote Lieutenant Felix Gaeta to be her new XO, who refuses to carry out the order as well. Agathon then officially relieves Thrace of command, citing the Colonial Military Code.

Notes
*The title is derived from the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost
::Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
::I took the one less traveled by,
::And that has made all the difference.
:The common interpretation is that one may be rewarded greatly by choosing a more difficult path than the one used by the crowd. The phrase may also have had a religious meaning for Frost, alluding to Matthew 7,12-14, which mentions a broad gate leading to destruction and a narrow gate leading to salvation.
* The survivor count increases by one, meaning that at least one child has been born in the Fleet.
* It has been 58 days since the end of "Six of One", when Kara Thrace is given the command of the Demetrius.
* Gunnery Sergeant Mathias's first name, Erin, is spoken for the first time on screen.
* Neither William Adama nor Laura Roslin appear in this episode. In both cases, this is unprecedented.

Analysis
* Instead of using his demotion as a wakeup call, Chief Tyrol has slipped further into despair and even contemplates to kill himself. That he has completely shaven his head might also be an indicator of his state of mind.
* Earlier resenting Baltar's presumption of believing what Tyrol's dead wife Cally would want, Tyrol strangles Baltar after ignoring his hand to shake. After Tyrol's suicide effort Baltar visits him in his quarters to apologize and Tyrol accepts Baltar's handshake. In light of Tyrol's resentment, and even hatred, towards Baltar displayed in other episodes, it seems more likely that Tyrol forgives Baltar for offending him in this one instance, but not for all his sins as Baltar may intend.
* Tyrol contemplating to kill himself is visually and thematically similar to Sharon Valerii's suicide thoughts in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I". Both either suspect or know that they are a Cylon and fear to hurt those around them. However, Valerii was more serious and calm about killing herself and made a real attempt to do so, while Tyrol acts in a fit of rage and eventually calms down.
* Although Karl Agathon initially defends Thrace against her crew's discontent and tries to quell any insubordination, he eventually leads the mutiny against her. The difference is that Eammon Pike, and to a lesser extent Sharon Agathon, complain about Thrace behind her back and in an informal way, thus potentially impeding everyone in their work. When push comes to shove, Agathon shares their opinion, but uses official means by citing Colonial military regulations. As executive officer he is also in a better and more credible position to do so than the rest of the crew.

Questions
* Does Conoy sense that Anders is a fellow Cylon?
* How will the situation on the Demetrius be resolved?
* Will Galen Tyrol begin to associate with Baltar?
* If yes, will Baltar have a positive influence on Tyrol and help him to overcome his grief or uncertainty about being a Cylon?
* What have Tigh and Caprica-Six been doing recently?
* Why does Baltar's broadcast appear to soothe Nicholas Tyrol?
*Gaius Baltar to Galen Tyrol about his conversion to a believer:
:"I know it's hard to...make sense of things sometimes. In my own life, I...in my own life I've joined the fleet as a scientist, as a skeptic, as a...supposedly a man of reason. == SG1 thing? ==

Is the SG-1 thing really necessary? After all, I'm sure that here are tons of television shows that have similar names -- for instance, I'm sure that there are shows that have episodes named "Faith". ::Didn't know "The Ties That Bind" was like a common expression (one of the downsides of being a near-native, but still non-native, English speaker), I was under the impression it was simply a Biblical quote. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 13:49, 13 October 2007 (CDT)
:::The origin is of course that bible quote, but if you google it, you'll also find a Bruce Springsteen song and many news articles that use it. For example "The ties that bind China, Russia and Iran" or "Sony Cuts the Ties That Bind Walkman" or "Technologies to untie the ties that bind". And for TV, an episode of "The OC" shares that name too, so Stargate shouldn't be singled out. == Nicky Cylon or Human ==

I wonder if this episode shows how the story hits on pure fiction rather than sci-fi with the case of Nicky being a cylon. Nicky is a boy, which would mean there has to be a Y chromosome. If Tyrol is truly a Cylon, then Cally could only have a female child. They stated earlier in the series that the skinjobs could not reproduce without human donors. Reading the sci-fi forums and original series (way back to deception to the Cylons/Baltar by Specter, and how the Beings of Light 'try' not to interfere) may provide a spoiler to what is to come next from this episode if it stays on the sci-fi side. If it goes fiction, maybe it be worth noting what made Nicky a boy and a cylon before someone yells "that's not sci-fi!" (The Science Note: women can reproduce women without men in genetic experiments of fertilization, but women do not carry/make the Y chromosome to reproduce a male.) (Podcast note: ) Dzonatas 21:02, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
:They did not state anything about human donors. They stated that Cylons could not reproduce with each other, and could not reproduce with humans unless there was love. Cally and Tyrol love each other, imperfect as their marriage might be, so Nicky was conceived like Hera. No reason he shouldn't have a Cylon Y chromosome. -- Noneofyourbusiness 21:40, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Inappropriate use of Point of Order?
According to Robert's Rules of Order, a Point of Order is raised if the rules of order have apparently been broken. In this case, rules don't seem to have been broken, and Lee is really just interrupting to bring up his own issues (which could be construed as out of order). The closest motion that I could find is a Request for Any Other Privilege, which he would then use to try to bring up a more pressing issue, but this is still an iffy case. Ctetc2007 10:56, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
:Standing-up at the table is a request to yield. The one who has the floor is the one who can decide to yield the floor. If Lee continued without the floor being yielded to him, then it would be out of order. Notice that Lee does ask for the floor to yield. The point of order is to get the answer to yield the floor and to quiet everybody else that does not have the floor. Roslin immediately tabled the issue that Lee brought up. Lee sits down, and the floor is returned. He could have requested an immediate call to vote to handle the issue, but typically it would have to be by some disastrous or emergency situation to call to vote on non-agenda items. Why didn't he make that case at that time? Dzonatas 14:51, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Monitoring Launch Tubes
The reason nobody notices the launch tubes being used is probably due to the Galactica's lack of automation. There's no central computer to track these things, and the over-worked state of Galactica's repair crew probably means that the logs that would track these things (assuming there's a counter at all) aren't being kept properly.

Of course, this doesn't explain why there wouldn't be guards.
:Well, at least they already established that nobody was paying attention to the launch tubes in last season's "Collaborators"... --Peter Farago 05:08, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
::Poor Jammer. :( Shane (talk) 05:33, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

: This might be indeed a flaw by design, but one that they should have fixed after the first Cylon war. The Cylons boarded ships via airlocks and launch tubes and used them as weapon to vent the crew out of the ship. In such a situation the security team etc. should know where to look for the enemy. --Akagi 10:54, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

:Well, would YOU want to guard the launch tubes? 99% of the time you'd just be standing there in an empty control room (at least at night), not to mention the fact that since there are quite a few launch tubes, you'd be tying up a significant number of personnel doing so. It seems like it'd be easier in terms of manpower to have guards somewhere in the hangar deck (potentially in intersection of the hangar deck(s) and the interior of the ship). By guarding the choke points, you'd be covered against somebody coming from any of the launch tubes, and from the landing bay openings as well. Though obviously the biggest reason the launch tubes are untended are for dramatic purposes. --Steelviper 13:48, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
::Nobody said there had to be humans watching the launch tubes, you'd be 'watching' them electronically, just like building security monitors elevator movements. If they did that and logged all activity, they'd find out Cally's launch tube was spaced from the control room and know she didn't commit suicide. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:01, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
:::Well, that Cally did not commit suicide is something that a good criminal investigator would find out anyway - Cally has to trigger the launch tube from inside by use this little key. This key should still be in the launch tube. --Akagi 14:20, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
:::True, but you know what happens when you put "machines" in charge of things... Closed circuit monitoring would of course be sensible. And if they wanted to get into all that, they could alter the logs and substitute in bogus footage, etc. When your conspiracy includes the Chief and the XO, there's not a lot of limits to what you could cover up. I guess they didn't want to get into that. --Steelviper 14:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
:::::::There are probably moving parts in the non-pressurized areas of the launch tube that need occasional maintenance. --Peter Farago 19:38, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I myself have decided to suspend disbelief on this particular issue. I find it fairly unbelievable that there isn't an automated system that would at least inform CIC that a "launch" had taken place. Also, this is a military ship on a war footing; I'm sure they have plenty of bored marines who could be patrolling the ship, especially sensitive areas like launch tubes and airlocks. JubalHarshaw 20:07, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
:Well it kinda depends on how detailed the data is that arrives at CIC: they may know that the launch tube was flushed, but they may not be able to tell whether it was operated from the inside or the outside (which would be of little use outside murder investigations). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 20:23, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Question about Nebula effects on the Callster
So this question was added to the questions section: Why did reaching the Ionian Nebula have such a negative effect on Cally (lack of sleep, depression)?

The thing about this question is that it had nothing to do (directly) with the Ionian Nebula affecting Cally negatively... Galen Tyrol's the one that's been causing some of the problems since their marriage, as we've seen in "A Day in the Life", although the root problem is that they're both pretty incompatible, which came to a head pretty much after the revelation in "Crossroads, Part II".

I'm bringing this up here because I removed the question earlier, but it was re-added, and instead of sparking an edit where the entire questions section was blanked (as was the case after I removed the question the first time), I figure I'd discuss it here first... -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 03:06, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry if this is already in the article (I couldn't see a reference to it) but I think there are an equal number of each Cylon model.

Spoilers for season 4, episode 2 follow:

Since there is a deadlock with the vote between the 7 Cylon models, we can infer that there are as many Ones, Fours, and Fives as there are Twos, Sixes, and Eights.

Either there are an equal number of the pro/anti-lobotomy Cylons models _just_ on the baseships concerned with the Raiders (since it would be unlikely for _all_ the Cylons to vote, but this implies that there is a 'rule' against, say, a Six trying to find an equivalent to Boomer on another baseship), or _all_ Cylons voted and there are an equal number the pro/anti models.

I think it's safe to infer that if there are equal numbers of pro/anti models, then there are equal numbers of each Cylon model on each baseship (this implies you can't have 'outside' voters), though I don't think it too much of a stretch to say there are an equal number of Cylon models.
FredTheDeadHead 10:58, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
:That's not how the voting process works. First they vote within their models to determine the total vote for one model, then that vote is tallied with the votes of the other models. It's not that each individual copy has one vote towards the end result, but only towards the model. The copies can only influence how their model votes in the final vote. Sort of like the US electoral college. -- Serenity 11:08, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
::I'm not sure I understand your explanation, and I'm a Limey so I don't understand US politics too well. In 'Six of One' a Cavil says that Boomer has "voted to reconfigure", so each copy has a vote to spend. Do you mean that each copies vote goes toward determining the model's consensus, rather than the decisions? So Boomer's vote would put the Eight's in a state of contention, so they have no vote since there isn't a consensus?

If it goes fiction, maybe it be worth noting what made Nicky a boy and a cylon before someone yells "that's not sci-fi!" (The Science Note: women can reproduce women without men in genetic experiments of fertilization, but women do not carry/make the Y chromosome to reproduce a male.) :They did not state anything about human donors. They stated that Cylons could not reproduce with each other, and could not reproduce with humans unless there was love. Cally and Tyrol love each other, imperfect as their marriage might be, so Nicky was conceived like Hera. == Inappropriate use of Point of Order? ==

== Monitoring Launch Tubes ==

I myself have decided to suspend disbelief on this particular issue. == Question about Nebula effects on the Callster ==

:Agreed. There is a time correlation obviously, but no causality. Unfortunately, these days some people are too quick to search for an outside explanation within the story and events, instead of looking at what the characters themselves go through. That just creates pointless implications. -- Serenity 08:27, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
The spoiler boxes have a serious flaw--you can't see the "this is a spoiler" line at the top when you're using the Monobook skin. It's too dark to read. I highlighted and ended up seeing the spoiler, and I didn't want to. Of course now I know what the box is and I won't highlight it anymore, but I would appreciate it if the box could be edited to be compatible with all the skins. Thanks. --Fang Aili 00:16, 24 September 2005 (EDT)
::I think oncer the "new" design is active, the CSS will be updated for a single skin and then that skin will be changed so CSS would be the primary way to color tables, instead of hardcoding values. The other skins joe should have deleted (as he did before the 1.6.x upgrade) to make sure we all worked from one skin when working on the site. ==Ron D Moore personally addresses the recent spoilers issue==
:Moved from Battlestar Wiki talk:Citation Jihad

I was in a discussion with Ron's wife Terry on the messageboard in this thread, when she then handed the keyboard over to Ron Moore himself and he posted the following messagee, about two minutes ago:

:I want to ask all of you, and KoenigRules in particular, to please refrain from posting detailed spoilers about our upcoming season. It's only April, and we're a long way from the premiere in October, and it's frankly dispiriting and depressing to all of us on the production team to see spoilers appearing this early. We're all working very hard to provide the audience with a unique experience and it takes a lot of the joy out of our process when we know that people have already judged the work before it's ready. This isn't about secrecy or having a NSA-like production, it's about letting the artisans and craftsmen on this show finish their work before it's displayed. Short descriptions of scenes and storylines aren't the same thing as watching an episode of the show and by putting this material out there for everyone to chew over months in advance, it really only allows people to make up their minds about a piece of work that is incomplete by any measure.

:I understand the desire to peek inside the tent. I've felt it myself about many projects from the Star Wars sequels to new episodes of Project Runway, and there's nothing juicier than getting the inside dope. However, there's a difference between that one on one insider knowledge and shared secret and posting it on the internet where it gets passed around literally the entire world or putting in on a radio show for all to hear.

:There's nothing I can do to stop this kind of thing from happening. When I was at Trek, we tried every known method of encoding scripts and plots and they always got out. The only thing I can do is appeal to your sense of decency and fair play and ask that you not spoil the larger fan community that cannot help but be aware of these things as they get massive distribution through the message boards. Self-restraint on the part of those in possession of inside information is the best way to prevent this from happening all through the Spring and Summer, so I appeal to you as fans of the show to help me keep the cloak over this piece of art until it's been polished and ready to be presented to you, the audience.

:I appreciate your consideration,
::Ronald D. Moore

In light of this, I think we should change our decision. I originally had the lukewarm idea that if other news sites like Gateworld and Galacticastation ran one of these stories, we might as well run it too, but only if they did it first. However, I have now completely rejected this idea: we shouldn't post anything more than "generic episode descriptions" which don't actually give away essential plot elements. At first I thought it pointless to try to stem the tide as Gatewold and GS might just report it anyway, but I now really think it is our duty to set precedent on the matter and not post spoilers that are this sensitive, if they have been leaked from anonymous sources. Granted, if Lucy Lawless herself spills the beans in an interview with a magazine that's between her and the production team; moreoever, if they wanted her to stop they could hold up her Screen Actors Guild confidentiality papers and give her a warning. But any support, even tacitly, of these spoilers, I don't think we can or should do anymore. --The Merovingian (C - E) 17:16, 26 April 2006 (CDT)
: Here's the point where I feel I must play devil's advocate, as it were: Ron D. Moore doesn't run Battlestar Wiki. I appreciate the fact that he doesn't want story lines and important plot points spilled out. I can understand that. However, as long as we have the appropriate warnings in place, I do not see the point in not posting the spoilers. We're really not in the business of censoring information, just because someone asks us to do so. Am I wrong? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:37, 26 April 2006 (CDT)
::You are not wrong. But I been pointing to send posting anonoymous soruces as a legit way for referreces is not a good idea. People who are still in Season 2 (UK) have no seen three Episode names for Season 3. We need to just be carefull, if we allow anonoymous soilers and spoilers alike, that we be carefull that they be totallt seperate. :::Well I can understand why you're saying that Joe, but I've really got to differ on the matter. :::Merv, your "stand" has changed four times and now this spans two pages so I am trying to "keep" the posted times right in my head. ::::It's very simple. The discussion on Citation Jihad is about whether we should allow anonymous sources. The discussion here is about whether we should revise the spoiler policy. The two topics may have originated with the same controversy, but they are not related, nor should they be confused. If The Merovingian wants us to revisit the horribly contested and partisan spoiler policy debate from last fall, this is the place he needs to propose it. --Peter Farago 18:53, 26 April 2006 (CDT)

I admit it's a little confusing Shane: well, officially (as you can see above with the most recent thing): I do not think we should use anonymous spoilers information, because RDM implored everyone not to, and we're only aiding whoever the leak is; if they're afraid of revealing themselves because they think they're breaching a non-disclosure contract or something and thus doing something actually illegale, I don't think we should support that by reporting their information here. Further, it's not always right as it's based on early scripts. Well, that's where I stand on the subject, though I don't know how everyone else thinks. --The Merovingian (C - E) 19:39, 26 April 2006 (CDT)

:I agree that RDM request should override any other concerns for ethical reasons. It is analogous to insider-trading info. Remember the conversation between Apollo and Tigh about the black market. If we do it because everyone does, it doesn't make us right, just whole lot of people wrong. --Frankie Gouge April 26, 2006 21:40 EDT
:: I, myself, try not to read spoilers. Sometimes, I accidentally do while I'm editing a page or something, but I take that as my "fault" kind of, for editing that page. It happens and usually it's not a big show ruiner for me. I would not oppose re-opening this debate, but I don't know that we need to, either. My main concern about spoilers is that, even if they're from a citable, reliable source, they're often wrong (because they get changed before air-date or whatever). Also, I am kind of partial to the idea of doing as RDM asks because I respect him as a creator and he asked in a nice, mature, respectful (to us fans) way. I do, however, allow that a rational person could disagree. --Day (Talk - Admin) 00:39, 2 May 2006 (CDT)
I seen recently a lot of spoiler info come into these sections in the form of spoiltext for answeres, but with the BW:ES project, shouldn't we keep the real Answers, even in spoiltext out until the Episode shows IF the spolier comes from a known episode? --Shane (T - C - E) 22:25, 15 October 2006 (CDT)
: Provided that the Spoiler Policy and Citation Jihad are adhered to, then the spoilers should be encased in spoiltext, whether the spoiler is in the form of a question or an answer. Furthermore, we should probably go ahead and tack on the spoiler warning to the top of said page, provided that there are enough spoilers on that page to justify it.
FINALLY!
I've been waiting for this game for months. *Wills download to go faster*

Seriously, I'll be trying this demo and hope to report as to its quality later this week. I also noticed the BtRL folks mention us in their Links section, for which I thanked them. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 09:58, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
:+1 more reason why i'm pissed that the parts for my new computer are delayed. *snarls* --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 10:38, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
::I've been playing it since the day it came out. It is fun! --Talos 11:13, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
:::Yeah just finished the Demo Campaign myself....not bad for a fan made mod. The only criticism is - they should replace the text-to-speech with either a persons actual voice (ie, play a .wav) or just omit the speech, dunno about anyone else, but i found it to be distracting! -Fordsierra4x4 21:21, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
::::It's fun but it lags on my computer :( --BklynBruzer 23:52, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
:::::I used to love playing Freespace2 on my old computer. Ran pretty well even on dialup lol --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 03:34, 11 April 2007 (CDT)

I agree that the text-to-speech should be fixed. I've only heard it a few times though: twice with "Please check your mission objectives" and once in a piece of wireless chatter. But since this is just a demo, I guess they'll fix it. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 08:49, 12 April 2007 (CDT)
:As far as I know, that is supposed to be changed later, but the VA isn't completed yet. --Talos 09:57, 12 April 2007 (CDT)
Screenshots
Screenshots of the game during play would prolly be ultrahelpful. DrWho42 01:59, 3 May 2007 (CDT)
:Feel free to download it and add some pics yourself. I am currently unable to download the game. --Mercifull (Talk/Contribs) 03:06, 3 May 2007 (CDT)

Cylotron
The Cylotron is made up for BtRL. It's basically a ship used to train new pilots in the Pegasus training simulator, and it has lots of sensors to aid training. I think it looks an old Cylon raider. (The previous comments are subject to memory). Anyway, the usage in the article is correct if a little unclear :) FredTheDeadHead 14:56, 14 June 2007 (CDT)

::Baltar's been having visions of Six and Hera in the opera house since season 1, so it's not necessarily connected to the Final Five. Since this episode will reveal 1 or 4 of the Final Five depending on which interview you go by, there's a pretty good chance that it relates to them as well. -- Gordon Ecker 20:16, 28 February 2007 (CST)
:::Am I completely off-base in thinking that that's Virtual Baltar alongside Virtual Six? Because the other photos of that episode show the "real" Baltar still quite disheveled with a thick beard while that Baltar is clean-shaven, not unlike Caprica's Baltar.
::::::The virtual Baltar normally wears the unique pinstripe suit from the Miniseries, which I don't see here. I do believe this is a visualization and that is Virtual Six, for the Opera House doesn't exist. If the two alter-egos do somehow directly interact, some Serious Shit will ensure, but damned if I can really glean what. This is as big of a season stumper as season 2's cliffhanger. And, no, Kara Thrace will NOT be one of the Five. But it may be, in my guess, one of these three, although they don't realize it: Dualla, Tigh, or Gaeta. I still hold exception to the fact that what Three saw may be the five priests of the Temple of Five, who just so happen to have incarnations in the current timeline. (Note the monkey that exited my anus and is waving at you). --Spencerian 15:44, 13 March 2007 (CDT)
Well, it's early, and I don't care to step on Slander's toes, but I have forseen an event in Crossroads, Part II.
OK. The purpose of a talk page is for brief discussions and questions about the article. Generally, the humorous "predictions" in other talk pages have not detracted from the talk page's purpose or grown in size, and honestly have given me a chuckle, although my feelings on the matter aren't the sole vote about it. Provided that we don't get into numerous predictions from many users to the talk page in some way, I don't see a problem with it at this time. If there's still a problem about it, a silly page could have a bulleted series of such humor if approved by consensus (although I doubt this would work, we're not a forum). Sometimes, predictions are fun and on-topic: See Talk:Exodus, Part II where I made a good guess. Now, what's considered "funny" is very subjective. I don't think BB's jest is nearly as humorous as, say, the shining white Final Five being revealed as the Jackson Five or something. Jokes are OK. If it's a bad one, ignore the poster. If a talk page gets too long, ask an admin to moderate if you can't get others to end a pointless or irrelevant topic. --Spencerian 13:00, 19 March 2007 (CDT)
::Tito rules! On a more serious note, if people object to my predictions, I'll stop doing them. Honestly, this sort of in-joke is inevitable when an Internet community develops. In my opinion, it's healthy for us to not take things too seriously, or we turn into a bunch of elitists. (If anyone in the history of anything has ever needed a collective wedgie, it's Wikipedia's editing community.) Anyway, as there are currently two "Predictions" topics on this Talk page, I think I'll take the rest of the year off, until it comes time to speculate about the DVD-movie and season four. --Slander 14:19, 22 March 2007 (CDT)
Predictions-part 2
I was surfing on the internet, trying to find some spoilers (lol) for the 3rd season finale, and came across this baby: http://www.thetvremote.com/battlestar-galactica-season-finale-spoilers/ (huge spoilers, so don t go there if u don t wanna read em). So, the text reveals who are the 4 of the final 5. As we already know, without the websites help, some of the final five are living and working in the colonial fleet. The 4 that are in question have a past, and we even saw a few times their memories, and we know that they lived in the colonies for quite some time. That being said, the website isn’t really convincing. But then, we know that the final five are special. We don t know what they are, we could suppose that they are more than the other cylon models, much more. We could even think that they are some sort of gods, now that too being said, I can t help but to think that those final 5, being special could have been planted in the colonies before the attacks of the miniseries. There is also a thing about Starbuck and a thing about finding earth on the website. I don t know what are their sources but the text seems very interesting and gives some very interesting ideas. DedMed

:Many of the spoilers fit with what occurred in "Crossroads, Part II," but it brings up many new questions, too. If true, the information completely wrecks or substantially modifies what we thought Cylons were and when they came about. It should be an interesting episode, to say the least. --Spencerian 10:39, 20 March 2007 (CDT)
I'm starting to see the show in shark infested waters. But I imagine everything is not what it seems. Especially with my homedog Col. Tigh. If he really is (spolier)... then I'm gonna start to lose interest in BSG for real.
I'm sorry I can't resist posting again. Ok, the final Five, as I stated are not Cylons but are a third faction, some ancient group probably five prophets who orchestrated all of this. It's the only way I can deal with this: I will not be happy if certain persons are in actuality certain entities. Especially people who have been around too long, who lived before the first cylon attack. Sigh... I guess the Caprica TV show will possibly delve into it... but dammit, that show better be frakking good. This show is going too far into paranormal and starting to suffer from hollywood interference. --Baltarstar 20:23, 22 March 2007 (CDT)

No offense, but I do believe we have enough reason to totally disregard that conclusion. Firstly, and might I add, perfectly timed, the main page has a link to "Who is a cylon", with a website, blog, and a nice canon explanation of who is and likely is not a Cylon. Saul Tigh... Whom I call "The Tigh Dog"... but who is known also as "The Tigh Fighter" (YES!) can't possibly BE a cylon. And why? Just as I stated, he's been known by Adama for too long (at least prior to the FIRST war). Second, this leads to my speculation from the talk on Crossroads Part 1... Even if these guys are the Final Five... they still aren't cylons. The Final Five are not Cylons. That's what I have been suspecting ever since the Oracle gave prophecy to Biers... ever since The Hybrid gave prophecy to Baltar. That's when I remembered Shelly from "Six Degrees of Seperation". Tigh is so not a cylon. If Tigh is a cylon... I mean really a cylon... this show has jumped the shark. Yes I'm sure they THINK they are Cylons, just like the Cylons THINK the final five are Cylons. But Tigh is not a Cylon. As far as the Final five go, maybe he is, maybe not. The Final Five are perhaps a third... NON CYLON... faction, closely related to the oracles, the prophecies, and what not. Possibly some disgruntled 13th tribe members that wanted to get revenge... who knows... but NOT CYLONS! --Baltarstar 21:04, 23 March 2007 (CDT)
::::Only? Obfuscated? Omega? As for the Tigh rumor, it's plausible that humanoid Cylons date back to the war (they could've discovered a 2000 year old data archive, developed the technology themselves with a Cylon-constructed supercomputer). The term "Cylon" hasn't really been defined, if "Cylon" just means "artificial humanoid" or "self-aware artificial life form" then the Final Five could predate the Centurions and still be Cylons. -- Gordon Ecker 01:16, 24 March 2007 (CDT)

Aw, come on guys. Firstly, you're buying into the notion that the Cylons are nearly omniscent. Isn't it probable that the Cylons themselves have been mislead? In addition, this stuff about Cylon models being created thousands of years ago makes no sense. There are only 12 models they know of. The encephalitus disease that knocked out a whole basestar of Cylons should debunk that long shot. If we are going to split hairs on what a Cylon is... then we need to reconsider who created them in the first place. I believe the 13th tribe left a faction, most likely the priesthood, behind. That priesthood wanted to fulfill some destiny or resolve some unresolved issue in the distant future and they were the invisible hand behind the first cylon war and the cause behind the Cylon visions (projections), the cylon rebirthing, and other spriritual technologies the Cylons have. In addition I believe the final five are actually the original five prophets that the Cylons mistakenly believe are "cylons". Even if I am wrong about that, to simply dismiss Tigh as a Cylon for the reasons above makes no sense. I bet during the fourth season the so called "revelation" that Tigh, Anders, and the others being cylons will turn out to be a Cylon (or Prophetic) hoax. And this... is where I think Six Degrees of Seperation will play a role. "What happened to Shelly"? She never really left, she has been manipulating things on the ship. It's a long shot, but I'm going to wait it out and see. --Baltarstar 21:34, 24 March 2007 (CDT)

Here is my theory on the whole "Tigh is a Cylon" thing, Tigh (and the others) are NOT the Final Five Cylons (they will initally think that they are but are mistaken). They will discover that they are descendants of the Final Five models who intermarried with humans back on Kobol and that the "Final Five" were the first cylons who were created by "the Jealous God" (who is also the God worshiped by The Seven we have seen so far). Which will still leave room for Starbuck to be one of the Final Five. I have to admit that a lot of this is comming just from instinct and my imagination but it would make a lot more sense than Tigh being a Cylon since from what we have already heard that the Cylons are immortal (and is safe to assume that they DO NOT AGE, which Tigh would have done since the First Cylon War 40 years ago). Mishakal 22:05, 24 March 2007 (CDT)

:: EXACTLY! See? Someone else understands what I have been trying to say, although I don't think the writers will put the jealous god angle in that way (but maybe they will). But I agree almost entiely with what you are saying. I just think the final five are some leftovers of the 13th tribe... Wait. I just realized something. The 13th tribe left and there was some war between the "gods" right? What if, the 13th tribe didn't leave on good terms with the other 12? Now if we can fit the Shelly angle into this, I will feel much better. Six degrees still hangs like a disowned child. --Baltarstar 23:54, 24 March 2007 (CDT)

:Why is it safe to assume that the humanoid Cylons do not age? Their physiology is close enough to that of regular humans to allow crossbreeding. Old age wouldn't be a problem, as they could just get resurrected in younger, more recently glown replacement bodies when they die of old age. -- Gordon Ecker 23:44, 24 March 2007 (CDT)

Maybe a growing and aging body function interfers with the ressurrection ability. Exact copies, thus perfectly aligned brainwave patterns to reinsert into the new body. --Baltarstar 23:56, 24 March 2007 (CDT)
:Who says they have brainwaves? Silica pathways, remember? --BklynBruzer 00:32, 25 March 2007 (CDT)
::So Tigh can't be a Cylon because Cylons don't age, Cylons don't age because ageing would interfere with the resurrection process, and we know that ageing would interfere with the resurrection process because there needs to be some reason for the Cylons not to age? This is a clear circular logic fallacy. There is no canonical evidence which rules the possibility of Cylons ageing. -- Gordon Ecker 00:43, 25 March 2007 (CDT)
:::Point taken, but it would seem strange that the Cylons would neglect ageing when they went about making themselves into an IMPROVED version of Human. It would be an inconveinence for a cylon to be dying of old age and ressurecting in what would be (from their point of view) a constant stream for all time. Why is the idea that they found a way around that so strange to you? Mishakal 00:57, 25 March 2007 (CDT)

The ol' crystal ball's coming in pretty fuzzy this week, everybody. Shame, too. I got such good reception last week. Anyway, here we go!
*The Adamas mourn Starbuck. This is going to be a recurring theme for the rest of the season. Not that the season has long to go.
*Anders is seen at Kara's memorial, likely for the last time this season.
*Lee and Dee are having problems again. Lt. Anastasia Adama is jealous of the depth of Lee's feelings for Kara, but she also empathizes for her husband's pain. She's conflicted by these emotions, but ultimately decides to support him.
*We learn that Lee has been studying his grandfather's law books in what little free time he has.
*I have a feeling we'll be seeing a little of Caprica Six this episode, but she, Phantom Six, and Athena are likely the only Cylons (or Cylon-appearing angels) we see this episode. I honestly doubt we'll see the Cylons again until the end of the finale. Like I said in earlier predictions, I think that boxing the Threes had a major effect on the Cylon in general and it's taking them time to adjust.
*Hot Dog gets promoted to Viper training officer. Like Talos said, he's the best of what's left.
*We see Baltar's lawyer for the first time: Galvatron!
That's all I've got for this week, folks. See you at The Crossroads! --Slander 15:08, 9 March 2007 (CST)
"Cally Tyrol correctly states that the Cylons wouldn't need to even fire one shot because they may find the Fleet had torn itself apart because of humanity's tendency towards self-destruction. However, it is also clear that she has not realized that she and the many workers are just as much apart of the problems when they essentially risked the existence of the Feet with their work strikes, the refusal of refining tylium , and disobedience toward military orders (Dirty Hands)."

As long as the strikes remained non violent killing someone's defense attorney and trying to kill others is not the same as striking for one's rights. Hunter2005 12:20, 12 March 2007 (CDT)

Never said it was terrorism. I just took issue with Cally's little speech about how the fleet could tear itself apart because of Baltar and that the Cylons wouldn't even need to take a shot. It eventually led to her prejudice against Cylons, and in particular, Athena. I just thought it was pretty hypocritical of Cally because the events of Dirty Jobs highlighted something that Adama would never tolerate, military personnel taking part in a civil strike. For Adama, and his seriousness of having Cally be executed for treason, the strike, the lack of fuel, and disobeying direct orders are all up there.

Either case, could reword that section, but the main point I was trying to get across was the irony and the hypocrisy of listening to Cally talk about how the fleet is tearing itself apart when she and others have participated in it as well. --LifeStar 12:27, 12 March 2007 (CDT)
Lampkin's "kleptomania"
The article in its current forum is arguably contradicting itself in describing Lampkin's thefts as both kleptomaniacal and intentionally manipulative behaviour. According to Wikipedia, kleptomania is "an inability or great difficultly in resisting impulses of stealing" and describes this as compulsive or uncontrolled behaviour. But, as is noted in a number of places in this article, Lampkin's actions are deliberately manipulative and highly controlled, rather than simply compulsive. He's carefully chosen the stolen objects to produce specific results. So in my view, these two explanations for his thefts are mutually exclusive, and what's seen on screen lends more support to the idea that he steals consciously and deliberately for specific reasons, rather than due to kleptomania. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this? --Steve 01:44, 13 March 2007 (CDT)
:Could he be justifing his kleptomania (with the reasons he explained to Apollo) after he's stolen them? So he'd steal something because of kleptomania, but then he can talk his way out of it. His theft of Kelly's doodle-bob and Adama's jacket button didn't seem to have any reason behind them, but he said he did show restraint regarding Apollo's picture of Starbuck.
The Starboard Pod's Hangar Deck
The flight-unusable hangar deck of the starboard flight pod was first used as the makeshift morgue for those killed in the nuclear strike aftereffects at the start of the Mini-Series. They couldn't be the regular hangar deck for the morgue--they're too busy retrieving the remains of two squadrons of Vipers at the time, and to have the bodies there would be cramped AND gross.

The starboard hangar is also in use at the end of the mini-series and seems to be used as an assembly area often (perhaps in "Home, Part II" as well. Unlike its port side, the starboard hangar deck is practically empty. Funerals were held here, probably in "Act of Contrition", and the bodies were buried in space through one of the launch tubes or Viper retrieval area of some kind as shown in that scene. --Spencerian 14:49, 13 December 2005 (EST)
:Might be worth someone adding a section on Camp Oil Slick maybe? == A Measure of Salvation ==

Apollo mentions landing in the starboard pod in AMoS. On the Ragnar Anchorage forum someone claims that Raptors took off from it. But as far as I can see it, the only take off seen is around 35:25 and uses what looks like the port pod (cool shot btw). Can anyone confirm/deny that?

In any case I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from that. If it's indeed in an VFX shot, it could still be an error, but even the dialogue piece could be an error. It could be rationalized by saying that they wanted to land in an isolated place, as Cottle demanded a quarantine. Nearly all other evidence points to the hangar decks being relatively deserted, used for storage and for refugee camps (the pod is huge! Those aren't mutually exclusive) --Serenity 11:47, 5 February 2007 (CST)
:Well, that's a point, but that might have been installed later. In the Miniseries, there are spacesuited figures floating around in zero-g inside the active flightpod. --Serenity 12:26, 4 March 2007 (CST)
