Overview
:Commander Lee Adama of the battlestar Pegasus has serious doubts about the success of the New Caprica rescue mission by Galactica. On New Caprica, Saul Tigh decides the consequences for his wife's betrayal of the Resistance. Aboard Galactica, Admiral William Adama executes a dramatic rescue plan.

Summary
*On Pegasus, Lee Adama and Dualla talk of Galactica's mission. Adama worries heavily that Admiral Adama's mission will fail and of what future responsibilities he may have as the leader of the rest of mankind. His wife tells him to not give up hope.
*On New Caprica, Samuel Anders confronts Saul Tigh about his wife Ellen's betrayal and tells him that either Tigh "takes care" of Ellen, or someone else less sympathetic will do so.
*Ellen Tigh explains her recent actions, that she would do absolutely anything to save Saul, including betraying the resistance. Colonel Tigh consoles her and provides her a drink when she asks. She falls unconscious, her drink having been poisoned by her husband. He says that he loves her, rests his head on her corpse, and weeps.
*On Colonial One, Gaius Baltar tells the Cylons that they have failed in their experiment and suggests the Cylons simply leave. A Three voices the concern that one day the descendants of mankind might exact vengeance upon the Cylons, should they be left to their own devices.
*Suddenly, dozens of explosions can be felt and seen. The Battle of New Caprica has begun.
*Anders and the resistance team has set a series of explosions that mimic a Colonial attack and causes chaos. Tory Foster commands a team of section leaders in the evacuation and orders Maya to head for her ship with Isis.
*Anders and a large group of resistance fighters retrieve weapons from beneath the Pyramid court to rescue the detainees in the detention center.
*In space above New Caprica, Galactica deploys a squadron of Raptors and Vipers. The Raptors launch swallows to mimic the EM signature of two Colonial battlestars. The Cylons pick them up and fall for the ruse, moving two basestars with their Raiders away from the planet.
*When Leoben Conoy leaves the home, he keeps Kara Thrace inside. She assaults him and tries to escape, but he knocks her unconscious.
*Tom Zarek tasks Jammer to protect Laura Roslin as she makes her way to Colonial One.
*At the entrance to the shipyard, where the Cylons keep the grounded Colonial vessels, a team under Tigh and Galen Tyrol are pinned down by Cylon Centurions.
*The Cylons detect the decoy drones, but Galactica jumps deep into the planet's atmosphere and launches its remaining Vipers. Before colliding with the ground, the ship jumps back into space. The Vipers begin to attack targets on the ground and clear the way.
*As others are freed from the Detention Center, Anders finds his unconscious wife and carries her away, but when Thrace awakens, she goes back to retrieve Kacey.
*The battle is turning against Galactica. Her FTL drives are down, weapons are offline and there is heavy structural damage from the atmospheric entry. Four Cylon basestars are closing in and the battlestar is soon bombarded from all sides with no hope of survival. At that moment Pegasus joins the battle, Lee Adama having disobeyed his father's orders. He opens fire with the forward batteries and destroys one basestar in the opening salvo.
*The Cylons realize that they have lost and decide to evacuate the planet. Number Three volunteers to stay behind and set off a nuclear weapon. She offers Baltar a place with the Cylons.
*The Colonial ships are leaving New Caprica by jumping from within the atmosphere as soon as they become airborne. Pegasus is getting heavily bombarded, having left all of her Vipers back with the rest of the civilian Fleet. Admiral Adama realizes that his son has planned a one-way mission and orders to retrieve his own fighters.
*On Colonial One, Felix Gaeta points a gun at Baltar and accuses him of having betrayed everyone. Gaeta says that while he had been an idealist who believed in New Caprica, Baltar only thought about himself. Baltar admits to be an egotist and asks Gaeta to shoot him. Gaeta relents, giving Baltar a final chance to redeem himself: stop Three from setting off the nuke.
*With Pegasus dying, Lee Adama orders everyone to abandon the ship in evacuation Raptors he had standing by. He sets the ship on a collision course with a basestar, destroying it. The remains of Pegasus scatter, the starboard flight pod colliding with and destroying another basestar.
*Kara retrieves Kacey, but Conoy has returned and confronts her. She appears to give in to his demands, says "I love you," and kisses him. However, Kara uses the diversion to stab him. She picks up Kacey and leaves with Anders.
*Three searches Dodona Selloi's tent, but the oracle has left. Outside, Caprica-Six and Baltar find Hera next to Maya's body, still alive. Three arrives, asks to hold the child, and leaves with Hera. Caprica-Six says Three no longer intends to detonate the nuke, then leaves the planet with Baltar.
*Laura Roslin and a group of resistance fighters enter the now abandoned Colonial One and are the last ship to leave the planet.
*On Galactica, many people are reunited. When Kara shows Kacey to the Chief, another woman walks by and recognizes the girl as her daughter, whom the Cylons had taken away. The mother thanks Kara for rescuing Kacey. Kara is shocked by the relevation that Kacey is not her daughter after all, but gives her up.
*Admiral Adama welcomes Tigh back aboard, and tells him he brought everyone back. Tigh quietly replies, "Not all of them." The colonists in Galactica's hangar deck begin chanting "A-dam-a, A-dam-a..." and carry the admiral on their shoulders. Adama turns to see Tigh wandering off, numbed with grief.
*Tory Foster tells Roslin that neither Maya nor Hera can be found, and it seems likely neither made it off the planet. Foster apologizes, but Roslin muses that this was part of something bigger than them.
*Admiral Adama shaves off his mustache and returns to a fully staffed CIC.

Questions
*With Baltar seemingly missing at the conclusion of the episode, will his Vice President, Tom Zarek, become President? Or will Roslin somehow become President?
**Tom Zarek refused to collaborate with the Cylons after Baltar's surrender.
**It is possible that Roslin has the legal authority to resume the Presidency. On what legal basis this can be done remains to be seen. A previously secret Quorum vote may be the most likely means of investing her with the office.
**Roslin addresses Zarek as "Mr. Vice President," and recognizes his authority (Precipice)
***It is a polite formality to refer to someone by the highest office they've attained (e.g., ex-Presidents are addressed as Mr. President) It is not clear if her terminology implies recognition of authority.
**Zarek did not evacuate onboard Colonial One (the de facto seat of government power), while he admired (and seemed to accept) Roslin's insistence that she intended to do so.
***Zarek likely opted to evacuate aboard the Astral Queen, as he has previously served as a leader and representative of that vessel and her passengers.
*How many humans died on New Caprica during the occupation and escape? Will it be in the thousands?
**There were around 39,000 civilians and military veterans and retirees, like Saul Tigh, trying to get off New Caprica.
*With Pegasus destroyed, will Tyrol's fighter construction continue?
*Since Galactica now has Pegasus Viper and Raptor compliment in addition to its own, will the starboard flight pod now be pressed back into service?
**The flight pod may have already been restored back to operational status, as it is implied that the Vipers launched in New Caprica's atmosphere were from the starboard pod.
***However, at the end of the rescue operation, Chief Tyrol is ushering people away from the landed Raptors, informing civilians they will be staying in the starboard pod until they are returned to their permanent ships. Considering that the Galactica now has to bring onboard the Pegasus air wing, this may overcrowd the port flight pod, thus necessitating the use of the starboard pod for flight operations. While this also hints that the starboard pod may be operational, it is also contradictory that civilians would be berthed in a potentially dangerous flight deck, even if only temporarily.
**With the former crew of the Pegasus onboard Galactica now, the ship has something close to (if not equal to or more than) its standard crew size. In any case, military operations should be much smoother and repairs to the ship in general are that much more feasible.
*What will become of Lee Adama? Will he resume his duties as CAG of Galactica?
**As Lee Adama outranks Colonel Tigh, XO of Galactica is an equally likely position. Likewise, as no such officer has been shown to date, the younger Adama might be officially assigned as the CO of the combined Galactica/Pegasus Marine contingent. Equally plausible is that he may assume his earlier duties of military liaison to the civilian government on a full-time basis.
*Will Tigh become a disagreeable drunk, as he was before Ellen Tigh first boarded Galactica?
*What was left behind:
**In order to build New Caprica City, the ships were at least partially stripped and supplies were offloaded. What remains on board them?
**Are there any people alive remaining on New Caprica after the liberation, either willingly or due to wounds?
**Since people brought food and medicine to New Caprica before the occupation, will there be shortages in the fleet?
***Very likely. Food and medicine shortages will play a role in future episodes.
****As noted in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II", there were already medicine shortages on New Caprica when the Cylons invaded.
*If the civilian ships only needed to get a few hundred feet off the ground in order to use their FTL drives and escape, do Galcatica and Pegasus need to engage the basestars? Is this just to keep the Raiders, Heavy Raiders, and missiles from being used on the civilian fleet, on the surface below? (Note: it is not in dispute that having Galactica launch its fighters within the atmosphere is important so they could attack the centurions and few raiders there.)
**As with the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, the Cylons could destroy the city with a single nuclear bomb in orbit. The plan appears to force the Cylons to be too distracted by the battlestar's offenses (Raptors at first, then the battlestar itself) to worry about the actions on the planet. Galactica jumps intra-atmosphere to minimize detection by the basestars.
*Will Gaeta be the target of persecution or assassination as a collaborator? Or will people believe in him when he is found out to be the secret informant?
*Will Cally Tyrol identify Jammer as the NCP officer who released her, based on his voice?

Analysis
*Galactica's escape seems questionable. Most or all of Galactica's Vipers were launched during the atmospheric maneuver. Later, after the four basestars start pummelling Galactica, its situation is dire, facing explosive decompressions and with its FTL disabled. Adama says, "Then that's it. It's been an honor." Pegasus immediately appears and uses its superior weaponry to engage the basestars, destroying one in the first volley, so Adama orders the FTL to be fixed. Soon, Helo reports that most of the civilian ships have jumped, that FTL is back online, and that Pegasus is taking "a hell of a pounding." Adama orders his Vipers to land so that Galactica can leave. The next shot is Vipers landing, but weren't they all at the surface? How long does it take a Viper to climb into orbit? Real-world atmospheric escapes take several minutes, at least. How much damage were the basestars and battlestars doing to each other in this time?
**We aren't seeing events in real-time. Several minutes can lie between scenes that appear to happen right after another. Sometimes it is simply necessary to compress things in order to fit them into one episode.
**There may be several key differences at play between an escape from New Caprica's atmosphere and a real-world atmospheric departure, such as a lower atmospheric boundary, more powerful thrusters on the Vipers, etc.
*Either the scenes aren't in order or Baltar is not aware of what is going on. In the Gaeta-Baltar scene, Baltar says, "The Cylons have a nuke in this complex. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is getting off this planet alive unless I stop D'Anna." But this is after most of the civilian ships have already jumped.
**Further, until Hera is discovered by Gaius, Three is still looking to set off the nuke -- even though it is clear that the colonists are all long gone.
***It's possible Three wasn't seeking to set off the nuke, but said she was as a ruse to go seek answers about her premonitions concerning Hera.
*In general, the Cylons seem to have left the planet implausibly underguarded. Considering the strategic nature of the site, as well as the well-known fact that two Battlestars remained at large, one would have expected the Cylons to have an overwhelming amount of protection for the planet -- perhaps dozens of basestars.
**Further, it is hard to believe that the Cylons were not keeping closer tabs on the whereabouts of the launch keys.
**Finally, why would the Cylons leave the grounded ships fueled with Tylium, thus allowing them to jump away?
**One of the Cylons in an earlier episode discusses their resources being overstretched already. They may not have been able to afford committing more Basestars to the defense of New Caprica.
*Why did Kara wait so long to stab Leoben? She could have done it before even kissing him.
**Quite possibly to add insult to injury by giving him what he wanted before (in his eyes) outright betraying him.

Notes
* There is also a TOS comic named Exodus!
* Both parts of "Exodus" were originally planned as one episode. However, it was quickly realized that the story was far too large for one episode and it was split in two. This happened before with "Scattered" and "Valley of Darkness" and "Resurrection Ship." It also helped save money because the construction of New Caprica, the extensive location shooting, the number of actors, as well as the special effects for "Exodus, Part II" were very expensive and the production was over budget.

Noteworthy Dialogue
*Discussing the failure of the occupation:
:Number Three: What would you have us do, Gaius?
:Gaius Baltar: Leave. Pack up your centurions, and go. Please. Go.
:Number Three: And then what? What would you do if we really just left you here? You'd live out your lives in peace and never trouble yourselves with thoughts of us again? Or would you raise your children with stories of the Cylon, the mechanical slaves who once did your bidding, only to turn against you? Killers who committed genocide against your race, the occupiers of this city until we just ran away? Would you tell them to tell the story to their children, and to their childrens' children, and nurse a dream of vengeance down through the years so that one day they could just go out into the stars and hunt the Cylon once more?
:Gaius Baltar: Blood for blood ...has to stop one day.

*Roslin heads to Colonial One
:Roslin: My ship's up there.
:Zarek: You sure have a sense of the dramatic.

*Adama comes to accept Galacticas end
:Admiral Adama: Then that's it. It's been an honor.

*After Hearing Pegasus Has Joined Galactica
:Admiral William Adama: Damn You, Lee ...Thank You, Lee.

*As the two Adamas reunite after the battle:
:Admiral William Adama: I guess you didn't understand my orders.
:Commander Lee Adama: I never could read your handwriting.

*Adama welcomes Col. Tigh back to Galactica
:Adama: You did it, Saul. You brought them back.
:Tigh: Not all of them.
Overview
:The Cylons have begun the brutal crackdown on New Caprica's Resistance movement. Tyrol receives disturbing news from a secret source within Baltar's administration while Colonial detainees face a Cylon firing squad on New Caprica. With time running out for the colonists, Admiral Adama will launch his rescue attempt with only the battlestar Galactica, while his son, Lee, and the battlestar Pegasus remain to protect what is left of the human fleet and continue the search for Earth if the rescue fails.

Summary
*The episode begins with the final moments of "Precipice", with the captured detainees being taken off the trucks. Cally is freed, as the Centurions march up the hill. Cally continues to run as gunfire is heard. Screen goes black, and we see the words "One Hour Earlier".
*Tyrol is frantically talking with Saul Tigh about a list of detainees he received from his source, Cally being among the listed. Tigh snaps him back into sense, saying they have time, and that they can locate the people because they cracked the Cylons' coordinate system.
*Tyrol immediately gets to work, succesfully calculating the location of the execution, and gathers a team to rescue Cally and the others.
*Tyrol's team, including Seelix, is able to catch up with the Cylons, and get in position as Cally starts running. Tyrol rushes out and saves Cally, as his team takes out the Centurions meant to execute the detainees. Others injured include some members of the NCP and the one Cavil.
*Seelix leaves a wounded Cavil for death. After he downloads into a new body he reports that he ended his own life, but is somewhat traumatized from the transfer process.
*At Breeder's Canyon, similar to the scene at the Pergamus Flats, a flashback shows how Marines move into position to defend the meeting there against a possible attack.

*Sharon Agathon moves ahead to meet with Anders and the resistance. Sharon links up with Anders, with Centurions ready to ambush them. The Centurions attack, taking out some of the resistance fighters, only to be taken down by a Marine RPG.
*After the attack, a map is recovered from one of the 'skinjobs', showing the hand-drawn map Anders gave to Tigh. Anders immediately suspects Ellen, as she was supposed to burn the map.
*While sleeping, Number Three has a dream where she is standing outside of a tent near some odd rock edifices. The next image is of her holding Hera, but then wakes up suddenly.
*On Colonial One Baltar and Caprica-Six lie together bed, but Baltar is fighting with impotence. Six is understanding, but Baltar shrugs off her sympathy.
*Kara is showing further affection for Kacey and apologizes for her getting hurt. Leoben watches from the background.
*Distraught from her dream, Three visits Selloi, a human oracle whose tent she saw in her dream, who tells her that Hera is still alive.
*On Galactica a combined crew from both battlestars is getting ready for the rescue mission. Margaret Edmondson conducts a ceremony to bind the people together in light of some probably not returning from the mission.
*William and Lee Adama have a farewell of their own when Lee leaves Galactica with orders to wait 18 hours for Galacticas return and otherwise continue the search for Earth with Pegasus and the rest of the fleet.
*Three inquires with Doctor Cottle - who is treating a Cylon wounded by a human attack - about Hera's alleged death.
*Roslin orders Anders to guard Maya and Hera at all costs. He tasks two of his best men to protect her and see to her safe escape.
*Gunnery Sergeant Matthias - the leader of Sharon's Marine team - meets with Roslin, Zarek and the resistance to discuss the rescue plan. She brought weapons for the upcoming fight and learns that the colonists conducted evacuation exercises under the guise of fire drills.
*Saul Tigh learns of his wife's betrayal and is visibly shocked by it.
*Sharon heads into the Cylon Detention Center in order to get the launch keys for all the ships that are still planetside. As she's leaving with the launch keys, she is confronted by Number Three - who immediately recognizes her - saying that her daughter is alive and that the humans lied to her. For her trouble, Sharon shoots the Three in the legs saying, "Adama wouldn't lie to me."
*Galactica is given word that the launch keys have been retrieved, and after a rousing speech by Admiral Adama, begins preparations for the jump to New Caprica.

Questions
*Roslin and Zarek seem to have reconciled their differences and become friends. Given Saul Tigh's feeling that Roslin will resume the Presidency once humanity has left New Caprica, and that Zarek used to be Baltar's Vice, will he assume the mantle of Vice-President under Laura Roslin?
**Or will he claim the presidency in legal succession after Baltar has been removed from it?
*A Cavil mentions that he has different sensations after each download. A slight headache after the first and after the third a white hot poker in his skull. Is there damage to the consciousness during each downloading and is there a point where after so many downloads the consciousness is destroyed?
**Most likely there is some sort of mental trauma from dying and rebirth
***In the podcast, Ronald D. Moore revealed that the intent was to show that there is a "cost" associated with downloading.
*Are the Gods real? Why are they sending accurate dreams to the Cylons? Why is the oracle helping the Cylons interpret the dreams?
**The Gods are "real" as historical entities that did live on Kobol - their status as actual "gods" has not been determined. The Colonials are capable of prescient dreams and visions (usually with the aid of Chamalla), and the humanoid Cylons are based on human DNA.
*Why does Doctor Cottle work to heal critically injured cylons instead of just letting them die and be ressurected?
**The Cylons might want to minimize the trauma of downloading into a new body.
**Cottle is also a physician, and has taken an oath to do no harm. Allowing a Cylon to die, regardless of the download capability, is breaching this oath through omission of action.
*Where is "Download City"?
**It is possible that Seelix's use of the phrase "Download City" is merely a euphemism for the download process the humanoid Cylon models go through.
**It may also be a reference to a possible downloading facility present on New Caprica.
*Is there any possibility at all that Adama wasn't aware of Roslin's plans for Hera?
**There are no direct indications that Adama is aware of Roslin's conspiracy regarding the baby. Given the positive changes in his relationship with Sharon, that seems to now be based on complete mutual trust, it is unlikely that he would keep such a profound secret from her, if he was aware of it.
**Dr. Cottle is a military officer and his actions would have to have been cleared through Adama. There may well be other reasons that Sharon wasn't told, including keeping the information from the Cylons in the event she was captured or downloaded.
***In military parlence, the president's authority supersedes that of an Admiral and a military officer does not need to report back to his commanding officer orders that originated from the president.
**The expression on Adamas face during his conversation with Boomer in Occupation suggests that he is aware of the conspiracy regarding Hera.
*What other operations are the Cylons doing elsewhere in the universe that are straining their resources for their experiment on New Caprica (also referenced to by Ron Moore in his podcast)?

Analysis
* The Number Three that has been having dreams about Hera saw Sharon Agathon and was able to tell that she was the copy that had been left with Helo on Caprica.
* Roslin's line about Hera, "She may well be the shape of things to come", echoes similar lines by Six in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II" and by Adama in "Valley of Darkness". "The Shape of Things to Come" is also the title of the orchestral music piece at the end of "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II".
*Anders seems to know, or at least suspect, what is so special about Maya's child.

Notes
* There is also a comic called Exodus!, which covers the events of the Original Series' episode, "Saga of a Star World" (Part 2).
* This is the first episode where viewers have seen an oracle. Oracles such as Pythia and Galen Tyrol's mother have been mentioned but not seen.
* Tyrol inexplicably lost his beard before this episode. This was necessary because Aaron Douglas's scenes were shot weeks after the main part of the episode, when he had already shaved and it was felt that a fake beard would not be convincing.
*Chamalla is a bitter herb, and oracles sometimes use candy to sweeten it up.
*According to Ronald Moore's podcast Jammer was originally going to die during the shootout at the execution site.

Noteworthy Dialogue
*Before Lee Adama departs Galactica:
:Admiral William Adama: I'll see you at the rendezvous point <br/>
:Commander Lee Adama: Eighteen hours. Try not to be late. <br/>
:William Adama: I'm getting old; I'm a little slow, but I'll be there.<br/>
:Lee Adama: Gods, I wish I could talk you out of this...<br/>
:William Adama: You can't. You tried.<br/>
:Lee Adama: You know, Dad, um...<br/>
:William Adama: Don't. Don't make me cry on my own hangar deck.<br/>

*During the Salt Line Ceremony on the hangar deck:
:Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson: Their enemies will divide them, their colonies broken in the fiery chasm of space. The shining days renounced by a multitude of dark sacrifices. Yet still they will remain. Always together.

*As Galactica prepares to return to New Caprica:
:Admiral Adama: This is the Admiral. You've heard the news. You know the mission. You should also know that there is only one way that this mission ends, and that's with the successful rescue of our people back on New Caprica. Look around you. Take a good look at the men and women that stand next to you. Remember their faces, for one day you will tell your children and your grandchildren that you served with such men and women as the universe has never seen. And together you accomplished a feat that will be told and retold down through the ages, and find immortality as only the Gods once knew. I'm proud to serve with you. Good hunting.

Overview
*According to an interview with executive producer David Eick, the mid-season cliffhanger story, spanning episodes 10 and 11, will center on "discovering the next big clue on the road to Earth."
*There will be a mid-season break between episodes 10 and 11. However it will not be as long as the hiatus between "Pegasus" and "Resurrection Ship, Part I": while that mid-season break lasted four months, this is a normal mid-season Christmas break which will last a single month.
*According to a news report, this episode is being filmed in Kamloops, Canada, not Vancouver (and is considered a big economic boon to Kamloops as a result). The episode takes place on an unnamed planet that the Fleet encounters. According to Jamie Bamber, the Fleet is still in search of Earth, but food supplies have started to run desperately low. Galactica encounters a planet capable of supporting life, so Apollo is sent with a team to the surface to set up base camp and scout it out to investigate possible food sources. However, the Cylons then arrive, resulting in "a pitched battle" between the Colonial ground team and Cylon Centurions. Aaron Douglas (Chief Galen Tyrol) and Nicki Clyne (Cally Henderson Tyrol) are also present in this episode in scenes with Bamber, meaning their characters will survive at least this long into season 3.
*Another report has revealed that Michael Trucco (Samuel Anders) appears in this episode, which means he survives this far into season 3.

Summary
Questions
* This episode title is peculiar. After the fall of the Greeks to the Romans in ancient real-world Earth history, the Romans adapted the Olympian pantheon of gods but changed names and some of their stories. The leader, Zeus, became Jupiter, and Hera become Juno. Does this mean that there are Roman-like mythological parallels/influences within the Twelve Colonies?
** While the title reference could be for the planet Jupiter, this infers that the Twelve Colonies know of the nature of Earth's solar system. This is unlikely since they still haven't a clue of the exact location. However, the fact that the Tomb of Athena's hologram appears to be created from data that could only come from someone that noted the stellar positioning from Earth, this could suggest that the planet's name is of Earth origin (see Religion in the Twelve Colonies).
Overview
:The Cylons have occupied the human settlement of New Caprica, and it's been three months since the Galactica, the Pegasus, and a handful of ships escaped into deep space. But the fight is not over. On New Caprica, a resistance has begun — and despite having only a handful of untested pilots at his command, Admiral Adama is committed to risking everything on a daring attack to rescue the people he left behind.

Summary
*Baltar visits Roslin in her detention cell to discuss the suicide-bombings, after which he releases her.
*Colonel Tigh is running the resistance effort, with Tyrol and Anders acting as his second in command officers.
*After sending Duck in on a suicide bomb run in an effort to kill Baltar, the Cylons begin a crackdown and round up random civilians.
*Gaeta continues to give information to the resistance, though Tyrol is unaware that Gaeta is his source inside the presidency. Tyrol calls Gaeta a collaborator.
*Every day a Raptor jumps in and listens for a wireless broadcast. With the list of jamming frequencies provided by Gaeta, Tyrol manages to contact the Colonial Fleet.
*Adama swears in Sharon as an officer and sends her down to New Caprica to help the resistance.
*Anders and a crew meets Sharon in a canyon outside of town after she jumps in inside the planetary atmosphere.
*Ellen Tigh, after being threatened with more harm to Colonel Tigh, gives the Cylons information on where the meeting is to take place. Sharon and Anders are ambushed by Cylon Centurions.
*The Cylons force Baltar to sign an execution order for 200 civilians, including Cally, Roslin and Zarek after another suicide bomber takes out the power plant. The detainees are transported outside the city.
*While stopping to ostensibly let the detainees stretch their legs, Jammer cuts Cally's bonds and tells her to run and not look back. Just as she gets away, Centurions show up to execute the detainees with Zarek pulling Roslyn away from the front of the crowd. As Cally runs through the forest, the sound of automatic gunfire rings out.

Questions
*If Sharon Agathon is killed during her mission on New Caprica, will she be able to download into a new body?
*Where will Cally be able to run to? She was ordered to face execution by the Colonial Government.
*Why did the Cylons abandon their plan for a public execution? More Importantly, if we are to assume that the gun fire at the end of the episode is not from the Centurions, who then?
**There is the possibility, however remote, that it was the New Caprica Police who opened fire on the Centurions. However, story-wise that might be a cop-out, and it is unlikely that the NCP would take such action, Jammer's release of Cally not withstanding.
**Another possibility is that the gunfire we heard is somehow coming from Sharon/Anders and their rescue team. Ofcourse they would've had to escape/defeat the ambush and somehow come upon the execution scene.
*What is the role of the five unseen Cylon models in the occupation? Are they present and simply remaining off-camera for the benefit of the audience? Have they attempted to hide themselves from the Colonials?
*Cally Henderson and Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy) both took their husbands' names upon marriage, as did Ellen Tigh, Caroline Adama and Sesha Abinell. Are Anastasia Dualla and Kara Thrace now Anastasia Adama, and Kara Anders, respectively?
*What is the relationship between Caprica-Six's shooting and the reappearance of Baltar's Internal Six?
**It is possible that two events are not directly related. The reappearance was not immediate, but happened after Doral and Cavil continued to threaten Baltar with death. Since Caprica-Six's support was gone, Baltar was under severe stress and thought that he might likely die. Internal Six has shown a tendency to appear at those times, especially if Baltar's survival is at stake.
*Now that the Battlestar Sharon has landed on the surface of New Caprica, how can she be distingushed from other Sharons there?
**Other than her flight suit, it remains unclear how Galactica-Sharon will be distinguished from other Eights.

Analysis
*We learn a little bit more about the nature of the various humanoid Cylons here. Apparently a single copy is usually qualified to speak for its entire model. Interestingly, Caprica-Six was unable to dissuade her "sisters" from voting to execute the dissidents.
*As one of the Cavils notes, adherence to the Cylon creed has become increasingly perfunctory. The Cylons sought the President's signature as a mere formality.
*If Leoben's story is true, Kacey can't be older than 16 months. As of this episode, it has been about 27 months since the fall of the colonies. Kara's incarceration at the Farm on Caprica took place about two months after the fall of the colonies.
*Even if Ellen's actions are as reprehensible as ever, her motivations this time around are rather more laudable. These two episodes seem to indicate that she truly does care for her husband.

Notes
*"Occupation" and "Precipice" is edited as one 2-hr episode with only one intro. However, in the podcast, Ronald D. Moore indicates the "beginning" of "Precipice" as the scene with Baltar and Roslin in the detention cell.
*In the podcast, Ronald D. Moore states that references to "The Twist" and "The Swirl" are a homage to Seinfeld. The episode in question is "The Fusille Jerry".
*Felix Gaeta's given name, first revealed in "Final Cut", is spoken out loud for the first time.
*Caprica-Sharon has married Karl Agathon and taken his last name. She continues to be confined to her cell, but it has been decorated and furnished. Ironically enough, she still calls him "Helo".
*Sharon Agathon and William Adama have continued to develop the rapport which they established in "Resurrection Ship, Part II". In this episode, he comissions her as a lieutenant and apparently releases her from her cell.
*Anders and Caprica-Sharon last saw each other at the end of "The Farm", although it's possible that they had a reunion after his rescue from Caprica and before his settlement on New Caprica.
*Number Three's claim that Caprica-Six's assault on her was the first case of Cylon-on-Cylon violence in their history is not really true. Sharon Agathon shot and "killed" another Eight outside the Delphi spaceport on Caprica. The Cylons may not look on this in the same light because it was within one model. Alternatively, Number Eight may have been unable to identify her shooter. This is plausible because she was looking at Helo when she was shot, and afterwards could only stare up into the sky for a few seconds before dying and presumably downloading.
**Actually, Sharon Agathon also shot a Six previous to that, but we may presume that Six consented as part of the Cylons' plan for Helo.
*Ironically, a Five shoots Caprica-Six in the head shortly after Three's statement. Cavil indicates, however, that she won't be "boxed", as Caprica feared in "Downloaded".
*The shooting of the captives and Cally's escape at the end of the episode are an homage to The Great Escape.
*Baltar's Internal Six appears only after Caprica-Six is killed.

Summary
*Baltar visits Roslin in her dentention cell to discuss the suicide-bombimgs, after which he releases her.
*The Cylons force Baltar to sign an execution order for 200 civilians, including Cally, Roslyn and Zarek after another suicide bomber takes out the power plant.

Summary
*Baltar visits Roslin in her dentention cell to discuss the suicide-bombimgs, after which he releases her.
*The Cylons force Baltar to sign an execution order for 200 civilians, including Cally, Roslyn and Zarek after another suicide bomber takes out the power plant.

Foz:

Class-D Nuclear Warheads are considerably more compact than any nuclear device currently known and qualify as a "suitcase nuke".

The exact technical details are not revealed in the series, in keeping with its philosophy of avoiding technobabble. Probably a Class-D Nuclear Warhead is an implosion-type fission bomb. Given the small size of the device that Baltar delivered to Gina, the fissile core is extremely small, and the the apparatus which compresses it to supercritical mass is equally compact. The yield of a class D is difficult, if not impossible, to calculate from information seen in the series. It should be noted that many nuclear bombs, including the American version of a "suitcase nuke", can be configured for different yields ranging from .375 to 1.5 megaton easily ("dial-a-yield").

One explanation for its small size is that a nucleide other than plutonium is used in the fission primary. Aside from the rather unscientific introduction of a "new element", the most logical candidate would be Californium. This synthetic element, produced in a cyclotron, exists only in miligram quantities in the real world, but the Colonies might produce much more using advanced -- but plausible -- technology. Cf-251 has a critical mass of around two kilograms, and this could be reduced even further using currently existing techniques. The Class D warhead is advanced technology, but it is in no way physically impossible, nor must it rely on scientific principles unknown in the present day.

The primary drawback of Californium is that the half life is 790 years, meaning that long term storage is problematic. Plutonium has a half life of 24,110 years, and functional 100 pound simple implosion devices have been made with plutonium using existing 20th century technology.

Notes
* This article is assuming that the shown nuclear warheads are Class D.
* In the United States military, Class-D is the designation of a relatively light-weight Thermonuclear weapon. The W-28 warhead in the B-28 TN bomb is an example of this type.
