== Overview ==

===Act 1===

* The final episode begins with a series of events before before the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Fall]].
* In a strip bar in [[Caprica City]], [[William Adama]] and [[Saul Tigh|Saul]] and [[Ellen Tigh]] enjoy themselves.
* Adama questions whether to take a civilian job, rather than to take command of an aged battlestar<ref>This is a side reference to the events of the episode, "[[Hero]]"</ref> Over drinks, Adama decides to take the job.

* Elsewhere on Caprica, [[Lee Adama]] is having dinner with [[Kara Thrace]] and her fiancee, [[Zak Adama]].
* Zak questions why his brother joined the [[Colonial Forces]], despite Lee's idealism and his dislike of his father. Lee simply answers that he received college funding in exchange for service.

* Elsewhere, [[Laura Roslin]] greets her date, [[Sean Allison]], at her home. After realizing he seemed familiar, Roslin finally recalls where she had seen him. Sean was a former student from years ago.
* Despite the age difference, Roslin decides to let him stay the night. "The night's young. Apparently, so are you," she says. "Let's see what happens."

* Back at the strip bar, Bill Adama challenges Saul on whether he'd take the civilian desk job. Saul doesn't answer.

* Lee Adama and Thrace manage to drag Zak back to the apartment after a night of drinking. But Thrace isn't done, and pulls out more alcohol for shots between her and Lee.

* Bill Adama is drunkenly sick, vomiting outside somewhere on the street. With a weak smile, he looks up to the stars in the night sky.

* The scene shifts back to present day on ''[[Galactica]]'', where [[Gaius Baltar]] sits in the former home of his [[Cult of Baltar|followers]], now empty.
* He listens to the [[Virtual Beings|virtual Six]], telling him to trust in [[God (RDM)|God's plan]] for him. When he asks what that plan is, she tells him that he already following it.

===Act 2===

* In ''Galactica's'' [[sickbay]], Dr. [[Cottle]] (who will not be staying aboard the ship for the battle) leaves assistant [[Layne Ishay]] two injections of heavy medication to allow Laura Roslin enough lucidity and mobility for 48 hours. She thanks him sincerely, causing Cottle to be something he'd rarely been: speechless.

* In the [[pilot ready room]], [[Karl Agathon]] briefs the [[Raptor]] teams on the special nature of their rescue mission. Despite the odds, all volunteer.

* Lee Adama briefs the [[marines]] on where little Hera would likely be: deep inside the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] [[The Colony|colony]].

* Admiral Adama work out the tactics of the battle against the colony. Close-range combat; nuclear weapons and missiles will not be possible for the battlestar. He orders the gun [[battery|batteries]] to fire until exhausted, and after that, "start throwing rocks," he says with a small smile.

* The [[Final Five]] plan out what they can offer as well. As befitting a cybernetic race, they consider a tactic used by Cylons in the past. They will use [[Samuel Anders]], now effectively a [[Hybrid]] on ''[[Galactica]]'', to interface with the Colony and its Hybrids to interrupt their commands, slowing the effectiveness of the Colony's weapon systems.
* The catch is that Anders will need to be connected to the [[DRADIS]], fire control and [[C-3]] systems. They plan to take Anders and connect him inside [[CIC]].

* Admiral Adama hands over command of the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] to [[Hoshi]], noting that if they aren't back from the mission in 12 hours, they will never come back.
* In CIC, Saul Tigh jokes at his old friend at the bizarre sight of a Cylon interfaced to his battlestar, gooey wires and conduit that extend over Adama's command console everywhere and into the DRADIS console. "Still not too late to flush them all out of the airlock," Tigh quips. "Take too much time," Adama answers.
* With Lee Adama staying for the attack, he appoints [[Romo Lampkin]] as President of the Twelve Colonies. He joins Admiral Hoshi on the last Raptor to leave ''Galactica'' for the baseship, the Fleet's new flagship.
* Baltar's followers get in the ship. Baltar enters, but then tells [[Paulla]] that he must stay on the ship. Lee Adama throws Baltar a weapon.
* Adding to the Battlestar's attack force, a Number Six leads a large number of [[Cylon Centurion]]s down the [[hangar deck]], some with a red sash painted on them for identification.

===Act 3===

* A shot of the Fleet shows that the rebel [[Basestar (RDM)|baseship]] has fully regenerated from its damage from the start of the [[Cylon Civil War]]. It is ready to lead the civilians to safety while ''Galactica'' goes hunting, retracting its [[flight pod]]s to prep for [[FTL]].
* Adama commands a ship-wide readiness report, a sort of countdown.
* Meanwhile, in sickbay, Layne Ishay prep sickbay for wounded. Laura Roslin assists as best she can.
* [[Viper (RDM)|Vipers]] are in [[launch tube]]s. The entire Raptor squadron, armed with missiles, have been placed inside the starboard flight pod deck, amidst the ruins of the old [[Galactica Museum]].
* Gaius Baltar is a soldier protecting the hallways against borders. He is surprised to find [[Caprica-Six]] by his side.
* In CIC, Ellen Tigh signals that Anders is ready to work.
* Adama gives a final speech, a final understanding and call to arms.

* The battlestar jumps only meters from the edge of the Colony--and is immediately besieged by the Cylon batteries.
* With little time, Sam Anders attempts to make contact with the Colony Hybrids--and takes them offline, apparently by causing them to go into a state of ecstasy. Ellen warns that [[Cylon Raider]]s will appear any minute.
* ''Galactica'' responds by launching its fighter wings. The Vipers launch, and the Raptors jump directly from within the starboard pod--causing incredible damage to the pod as it vents open--but now placing themselves on the opposite side of the Colony in a flanking position.
* Adama orders the battlestar's engines at flank speed. He rams the alligator head into the Colony. ''Galactica's'' inhabitants take a beating, but so does the Colony. The Colonials have breeched it, forming an entrance. Lee Adama leads his marines and several Cylon Centurions inside from a front airlock.
* [[Sharon Agathon]] and Helo's Raptor make their way to the Colony's interior.
* [[Racetrack]] and [[Skulls]] arm their nuclear missiles, presumably to strike the colony after the rescue. But suddenly a piece of debris strikes their Raptor, killing all aboard and leaving the Raptor adrift.
* The Raptors breech another section of the Colony, and their teams enter.

* Deep inside the Colony, a [[Simon]] works on young Hera as [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] looks on in disgust. When she questions why he continues to work on Hera, the Simon explains that they maintain and superior force and numbers.
* Suddenly, Boomer assaults the Simon, snapping his neck. She takes Hera out of the room.

===Act 4===

* The Colony's halls are filled with gunfire. Cylon Centurions, including older [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Model 0005s]] fight each other as the Colonial fire teams push through.
* [[Cavil]], a [[Number Five]] and another Simon decide to go on the defensive, to attack the battlestar with their troops.

* In a hallway in ''Galactica'', ready to repel boarders, Caprica-Six and Baltar come to terms with their old relationship. As they kiss, they hear a Six's voice. "All of the pieces are falling into place."
* The Virtual Six--''and'' the Virtual Baltar--stand above them. To the surprise of Caprica-Six and Baltar, they can hear and see each of the avatars.
* With a shudder, the battlestar hull is breeched as waves of enemy Centurions, both old-model and modern, pour into the ship.

* The Agathon's team find Boomer, holding Hera. She gives the child to them, telling them to tell Admiral Adama that she "owed him one." With the child safe, Athena shoots Boomer.
* A flashback scene shows what Boomer meant: a time back in her days on '''Galactica'', as Adama and Tigh redress her but give her another chance to be a better pilot.

* Ishay has her hands full in sickbay, trying to triage and treat as many people as she can. The event is taxing, physically and mentally, for Roslin, as she comforts more dying than not.

* Lee Adama's team connects with Starbuck's team, with Hera in tow. When Lee asks where Thrace was, she answers, "Stopped for coffee."<ref>This might be the one time in the history of the series where an obvious joke to [[w:Starbucks Coffee|Starbucks Coffee]] has been used.</ref> With their objective complete and no other battlestar patrols found, they head back to the battlestar's alligator-head.

* ''Galactica'' batteries are being targeted by Raiders. She is losing what little defensive ability she has left. Enemy forces are coming at the reserve forces--where Baltar waits.

===Act 5===

* Caprica-Six and Baltar hold off the enemy Centurions. Baltar's passion at killing Centurions gets a bit out of control as Lee Adama's team reenter the battlestar with Hera. As more enemies appear, Lee and Baltar fire away.
* Laura Roslin sits and experiences yet another vision of the [[Opera House]] and little Hera. Struggling to walk, driven by something she can't fully realize, she gets up to find Hera.
* Starbuck leads the Agathons through the hallways, but a Number Five appears, seriously wounding Helo in the leg and killing a marine before Starbuck eliminates him. In the confusion, Hera runs away. Athena runs after her.
* Hera walks amidst the gunfighting, when soon she encounters Roslin, who pulls out of the path of an enemy patrol and to safety. But when Roslin turns back to the child, she is gone again.
* Caprica-Six and Baltar are running, and are out of ammo. Suddenly they see Hera, as well as Roslin and Athena--all grouped together as in the Opera House vision. Caprica-Six scoops up the child and enters a hallway, closing the hatchway, preventing Athena and Roslin from following. THe opera house vision had Caprica-Six and Baltar closing the door on boht Athena and Roslin after picking up Hera.
* As the scene shifts between visions of the Opera House and the corridors, Baltar and Caprica-Six realize what they must do: They follow their vision into the Opera House--which turns out to be CIC, where the Final Five reside, overlooking the lower deck of CIC as they appeared in the vision, standing above.
* Suddenly Cavil, a Number Five and a Simon enter the room. Cavil grabs Hera as a shield.
* Baltar pleads for the child's freedom, telling Cavil that Hera is key to humanity's survival as well. He reasons with Cavil that there are higher forces at work, that led them all, here, for a reason. When Cavil questions if God has his people's interests at heart, on how Baltar knows that God is on his side, Baltar replies (in an allusion of something [[Miniseries, Part 1|he once said to the virtual Six]]), "God is not on any one's side." The Virtual Six and Virtual Baltar look on with a pleased expression.
* Baltar asks Cavil to take a leap of faith. Saul Tigh sweetens the pot by offering to reteach Cavil the secret of [[Resurrection (RDM)|resurrection]], this time in exchange not only for Hera's life but for permanent peace, where the Cylons leave humanity alone.
* Cavil agrees. He uses the Battlestar comm to order his forces to stand down and releases Hera. Admiral Adama orders stand-down as well.

===Act 6===

* Vipers and Raptors return to ''Galactica''' as Raiders return to the Colony. Laura Roslin joins the admiral in CIC.
* The Five each know part of the secret to resurrection. They will combine their knowledge by connecting themselves through the water in Ander's tank. Ellen Tigh tells the others that the process will also share memories as well as data.
* But before they begin, [[Tory Foster]], visibly anxious, warns the others that they will see "certain things" of their bad behavior. She tries to prepare the others of what they will see of her. An impatient Cavil screams. "I don't mean to rush you, but you are keeping two civilizations waiting!"
* The Five dip their hands and make the connection. As the data flows to the Colony, Foster's visions of murdering [[Cally Tyrol]] in an effort to protect her secret of being a Cylon comes to the forefront, surprising the others of the Five, and angering [[Galen Tyrol]] immediately.
* Tyrol pulls his hand from the pool and wraps both hands tightly around Foster's neck in a death-grip, eventually snapping her neck.
* As Anders screams from the sudden disconnection, the Cylons in CIC believe they are deceived and open fire. The Colonials kill all but Cavil, who shouts an exasperated "[[Frak]]!" before putting his pistol in his mouth and pulling the trigger.

* High above, as gunfire begins again over ''Galactica'', [[Racetrack]]'s Raptor drifts, its crew lifeless. A rock strikes the ship, causing Racetrack's dead hand to strike the firing button to the Raptor's tactical nuclear missiles, launching them all straight at the Colony.
* The force of the explosions disable the Colony, pushing it towards the black hole, threatening to take ''Galactica'' with it.
* Adama orders Kara Thrace to make a [[blind jump]], but Thrace thinks about [[The Music|the music her father played]], the music that Hera wrote to her. Recalling the mathematical associations she tried to discern from the music, Thrace realizes the music works as a series of FTL coordinates.
* She punches in the coordinates into the [[Computers|navigation computer]] and jumps the ship.

* A flashback scene appears where Lee Adama and Kara Thrace talk about how she [[The Destiny|thinks about death]] every time she gets into a cockpit.

* ''Galactica'' completes the jump--but the strain of the last battle causes the battlestar's structure to ripple and twist as structural members tear and break. The ship will never jump again. Engines and life support are okay, but ''Galactica's'' backbone is broken.
* "Where have you taken us, Kara?" Roslin asks, as the scene changes to an exterior shot to show the battlestar flying over a gray, rocky moon.
* But is not just a moon...''Galactica'' has arrived at the ''moon of Earth''...another Earth, this one with the continent of Africa in prominent view.

===Act 7===

* The Fleet jumps into Earth orbit as ''Galactica'' passes by. A Raptor came to Hoshi to guide them to Earth.
* Landing ship after landing ship leave for the new world.
* On a green, rich savannah in Africa, Admiral Adama, Cottle, Saul Tigh, Hoshi, and Baltar look on, lying prone on their stomachs with binoculars at a tribe of early humans. Cottle confirms that the native humans are compatible with the Colonials genetically.
* At a camp, as Lampkin considers a building of a new city, Lee Adama tells him to let humanity start all over again, leave their technology behind, which has almost always gotten them into trouble. Let the Colonials enter Earth with just their basic possessions.

* Admiral Adama maps out a plan to populate various continents and land masses, spreading out humanity and Cylon far and wide, distributing supplies to give all a good chance of survival. To Lampkin's surprise, the peoples of the Fleet take a liking to leaving technology behind.
* A [[Number Two]] tells Adama that the remaining Twos, Sixes, and Eights will stay on Earth as well, handing over the baseship to the Centurions, to give them their own freedom. When Lampkin questions if setting the Centurions free won't cause another holocaust hundreds of years from now, Ellen Tigh agrees it's a risk, but believes the cycle of death has been ended. Adama agrees.
* Adama tells that, after everyone is offloaded from the ships, the Fleet will reunite with '''Galactica'' a final time. Piloted by Samuel Anders, still in his tank in CIC, connected into the battlestar, he will fly all the ships on a final voyage into the Sun.

* Kara Thrace, eyes filled with tears, meets with Anders at his tank, kissing him goodbye for the last time, and leaving her [[dog tags]]. As she leaves, he mutters, "I'll see you on the other side."

===Act 8===

* Admiral William Adama descends into the hangar deck, wearing a [[flight suit]]. The deck is otherwise completely empty of anything, and anyone.
* He takes a seat in a [[Viper Mark II]]. Not just any Mark II...but the one that Galen Tyrol's team rebuilt for him as a retirement gift [[Miniseries, Night 1|so long ago]].
* As Adama's Viper launches, the scene shifts to six years prior, where Adama is taking a lie detector test for the prospective desk job. When the test administrator asks him test questions such as, "Are you a Cylon?" and "Have you ever stolen money from a cash drawer?" Adama is angered and leaves, saying, "I'd rather spend the rest of my career--what's left of it--on a broken old down ship, than to have someone sit here and question my word."
* Husker's Viper makes a final fly-by of the old battlestar, looking at her one last time before pointing his Viper towards Earth.

* Samuel Anders' voice from the past talks of his days in sport, dreaming of perfection, and being linked to it, to creation, as Anders guides the Fleet, now united to the mathematical perfection he once spoke of through his duties as a Hybrid.
* As a version of the [[Original Series]] main theme plays, the scene shows ''Galactica'' and the Fleet gathered a final time, heading away from Earth and towards the sun to its demise.

* Walking in the savannah, the Tighs speak with Galen Tyrol a final time. He has decided to go to the northern highlands of Earth, what will likely be Ireland or Iceland. The scene shifts to the Tighs, partying back in Caprica City, once upon a time.

===Act 9===

* On the plains, Bill Adama sits with Laura Roslin, watching herds of gazelle. Her vision weakening, she tries to use her glasses with the binoculars. "A very beautiful world," she says. When she asks what the name of the planet is, Adama tells her it's Earth. He adds, "Earth is a dream," believing that their new home, a long-sought destination, deserves the name.
* Roslin's breathing becomes labored and shallow. Adama offers to give her a better look at the wildlife. He picks her up and carries her to a nearby Raptor.
* Lee Adama and Kara Thrace notice and meet Bill Adama there. The Adamas hug, and Bill Adama gives Thrace a final greeting of "[[Nothing but the rain]]" before he hugs and kisses her. Thrace and Lee wave goodbye to a smiling Roslin as the Raptor ascends.

* Lee realizes that his father isn't coming back. Kara Thrace tells Lee that she isn't coming back, either. "I just know that I am done here. I've completed my journey...and it feels good."

* A flashback scene, back in Thrace's apartment, where Thrace dares Lee to make love to her on her dining room table. But before they could do anything, the crash of a glass partially awakens Zak, causing the two to realize what they were doing. They shake hands and say goodbye.

* "Today is the first day of the rest of your life, Lee," Kara Thrace says. As Lee tells her of desire to explore and climb mountains, he turns to find that Kara Thrace has vanished, as if she were a ghost. "Goodbye, Kara," he says. "You won't be forgotten."
* A flashback scene shows the pigeon that would be trapped in Lee's apartment after his visit to Kara and Zak. It looks at Lee and flies out of the window and away.

* In another flashback from six years prior, Laura Roslin returns to stand by the side of the bed, thanks Sean Allison, but tells him that they will not meet this way again, and asks him to leave. As the man leaves, Roslin returns to her bathroom, lights a cigarette, then makes a phone call. She accepts the opportunity to work on Mayor [[Richard Adar]]'s campaign.

* Bill Adama's Raptor flies over flamingos. "So much..life," Laura Roslin says...her final words as she closes her eyes and quietly passes.
* Moments go by before Bill realizes that she is gone.
* In tears, Bill removes his wedding ring and places it on Laura's hand. "Right there...I'm going to build our cabin right there," he says, pointing to some hills.

===Act 10===

* A line of people walk into the wilderness, calm and ready to take on the world.
* The Agathons walk as well, Helo using a makeshift crutch, talking of hunting and other pleasantries. Hera runs about in play, a smile on her face.

* Gaius Baltar and Caprica-Six look on at Hera playing as the Virtual Six and Baltar reappear. When Caprica-Six questions if the protection of Hera was all that God wanted of them, the Virtual Six replies, "God's plan is never complete." "Great..." Baltar replies sullenly.
* Virtual-Baltar counters, "I think it's safe to say that, from now on, your lives will be less...eventful."

* Another flashback to Caprica City. Baltar offers Caprica-Six an opportunity to "peek" into the [[Colonial Defense Mainframe]].

* When Baltar points to some land, he recalls his heritage, and [[Junius Baltar|his father]], and that he knows a bit about farming, to a bit of tears.

* Bill Adama sits, looking out into the hills and valley. "I laid out the cabin today. It's going to have an easterly view. You should see the light that we get here. When the sun comes from behind those mountains. It's almost heavenly. It reminds me of you."
* As he speaks, the camera pans up to show Adama, seated near the cairn he built for Laura Roslin's body.

* The scene turns to show Hera playing and looking upward. Scenes of wood and desert and sea pass by in a geologic montage to reveal an Earth city--New York City--150,000 years ahead in time.

* As a fly-over of the city appears, a voice-over of Virtual-Six reads from a magazine article of the Tanzanian discovery of the bones of what scientists believe our the remains of the [[w:mitochondrial Eve|mitochondrial Eve]], the matrilineal common ancestor of mankind.

* As [[Ron D. Moore|Ron D. Moore reads]] about the scientific discovery, the Virtual Six and Baltar look over his shoulder at a magazine article of the news, and reveal what they know...the bones are that of Hera Agathon, born of a Cylon mother and a human father. No other people on the street appear to notice them.

* The two talk of the technology and decadence, of whether this Earth will repeat the mistakes of generations past and again become overwhelmed by their creations. The Six thinks not, believing it to be God's plan.

* "You know it doesn't like that name," Baltar says. Six only looks back in mild defiance. "Silly. Silly me," he replies as the two walk away into the metropolis.

* The episode concludes with scenes of robots, from toys to advanced automatons growing and evolving, as Jimi Hendrix's--Earth's popular version--of "[[The Music|All Along The Watchtower]]" plays.

* The story ends.

== Notes ==
*A portion of this episode was being filmed in [[w:Kamloops| Kamloops, BC]] during the week of June 16, 2008. Local extras of all ages were utilized for this scene (or scenes) and were required to have an athletic build and a clean-cut look, or to be slim with long hair or dreadlocks. Extras were auditioned at Best Western room 137 (in Kamloops) on June 12th <ref>http://www.bclocalnews.com/bc_thompson_nicola/kamloopsthisweek/entertainment/19788509.html</ref>. The rural area surrounding Kamloops was previously utilized to depict the [[algae planet]] in "[[The Eye of Jupiter]]" and "[[Rapture]]".
*Although Part I had a runtime of one hour, Part II will run for two hours. An even longer cut of Daybreak will later be released on DVD. <ref>{{cite_news|first=|last=|url=http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2008/07/talking-battles.html|title=Talking 'Battlestar Galactica's' finale, 'Caprica' and the 'Battlestar' TV movie with Ron Moore}}</ref>
*There was no final population count given after the engagement with the Cavil forces. However, there were no reported deaths by accident or violence before the engagement so the population count is most likely the same as it was in "[[Daybreak, Part I]]" before the attack on the Cylon Colony, 39,516.
**A new population count post-engagement is given in the separate iTunes release of Daybreak, Part III. The count is 39,406, putting Colonial casualties from the battle at 110.
*With the ramming of [[The Colony]] by ''Galactica'' Hera's prophetic [[Projection]] at the very beginning of [[Islanded in a Stream of Stars]] came true. In her projection as she was playing on ''Galactica'''s tactical light table with the models of ''Galactica'', three Baseships and three Cylon Raiders, she rammed a model Baseship with the model of ''Galactica''.
*There is a poetic ring to the nature of the conflict of the Second Cylon War. It began with the Cylon attack on Colonies nearly wiping out mankind. It ended with the Colonial attack on the Cylon Colony very likely wiping out the Cylons who didn't join with the humans. This is also in line with [[Romo Lampkin]]'s observation of him being President of it being "Poetic justice" and Lee Adama's "What goes around, comes around" since Lampkin originally pushed him to be a politician. In either case the Cylons were revisited by the destruction they wrought on the human Colonies.
*Gaius Baltar, with deliberate aforethought, gave [[Caprica Six]] the back door to the Colonial defenses. He still did not know Caprica Six was a Cylon, but he did commit willful corporate espionage knowing he would be punished for it if caught. Previously Baltar's giving of Caprica Six the secrets was implied-or at least inferred-to be from naive vanity to impress his girlfriend Caprica Six.
*This episode marks the deaths of [[Boomer]], [[Cavil]], [[Racetrack]], [[Skulls]], [[Tory Foster]], [[Samuel Anders]] and [[Laura Roslin]] and the destruction of Cavil's forces. The [[Doral]] and [[Simon]] lines are also presumably wiped out, or at least decimated beyond recovery. [[Kara Thrace]], having fulfilled her purpose, vanishes without a trace and her whereabouts are unknown. In detail:
**Boomer was killed by [[Athena]] in revenge for taking [[Hera]], sleeping with [[Helo]] and beating her in the lavatory.
**Cavil took his own life in Galactica's CIC when his side lost.
***It is unknown what happened to the other members of the Cavil/Number One line. The death of only a single Cavil is depicted.
**Racetrack and Skulls's Raptor was stuck by a meteor penetrating their wind screen and striking them. Both Skulls and Racetrack were killed on impact. Racetrack's dead hand later hit the launch button that launched the nuclear missiles after her Raptor was hit again by a asteroid.
**Tory was killed by [[Galen Tyrol]] in revenge for Tory killing his wife [[Cally]] after he learned Tory murdered her during the mutual and involuntary exchange of private information of the [[Final Five]]'s minds while downloading Resurrection technology data to the Cavil forces.
**Anders guided himself in ''Galactica'' and the Fleet into the Sun.
**Roslin died of cancer as Adama was giving her a bird's eye view of their new home on second Earth in a Raptor.
**Since they did not have either Cylon females or Resurrection the Cavil, Simon and Doral models on the various Cylon Baseships presumably died out after their natural life spans were exhausted.
**Kara was presumably taken by the same force, stated to be God by [[Virtual Six]], that resurrected her.
*This episode also marks the destruction of the ''Galactica'' and her Fleet.
*Humanity, along with the Cylons, finally reaches its new homeworld, names it Earth, and the humans of today are the Colonials', and probably the Rebel Cylons', descendants 150,000 years later. The [[Leoben]]s, [[Six]]s and [[Sharon]] models from the Baseship joined the Colonials on the new Earth.
*The tracing of the human blood line through [[wikipedia:Mitochondrial DNA|Mitochondrial DNA]] to a common ancestor and dubbing her [[wikipedia:Mitochondrial Eve|Mitochondrial Eve]] is a real theory. Mitochondrial Eve was the ''matrilineal most recent common ancestor'', the most recent person in the female line that all of humanity can be said to be from. In other words, Hera is everybody's mother's mother's ... mother's mother. This does NOT imply that she is the only ancestor of modern humans. In fact, it implies that each female alive at the time either has no surviving descendants, or is ALSO a common ancestor (though not a purely matrilineal one).
** In the series, Hera is Mitochondrial Eve, meaning that all of modern humanity is a combination of Colonial humanity and Cylon, although there maybe ancestors of native New Earth in the current population from the male line of descendants.
** The fossilized remains are said to be of a young woman, indicating Hera does not live to see a middle age, though she has children before she dies. Specifically, she must have daughters to pass on her (Cylon) mitochondrial DNA.
*The Centurions are granted full independence and subsequently depart in the rebel Baseship to pursue their own destiny. Their status 150,000 years later remains a mystery. The Colonials and humanoid Cylons believe it is unlikely they will be a threat, as they have no reason to bear a grudge this time around.
*The ''[http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Kodiak Kodiak]'', the command ship of the Global Defence Initiative (GDI) faction from the computer game ''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Command_%26_Conquer:_Tiberian_Sun Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun]'' is seen among the fleet in one establishing shot.
*The final scene, like most of the rest of the series, was filmed in Vancouver, BC, and not in New York City at all. In the final scene with Angel Baltar and Six, "Bread Garden Bakery and Cafe", W Pender St, and Dunsmuir St are visible, all of which are within a couple blocks of each other along Granville St in downtown Vancouver. [http://tinyurl.com/crgd2x]
*The Centurion Model 0005 in the museum case is a retcon. In the [[Miniseries]], it was an Original Series costume, with the black skirt and non-exposed joints. In this episode, it is a CGI First War Centurion 0005 with exposed joints and no black skirt.
*Reference (possibly intentional) is made to Olmos' earlier work: Adama's flushing of flamingos while flying a Raptor is reminiscent of the flamingoes flushing during the opening credits of Miami Vice.

== Analysis ==

*The coordinates that Thrace enters, 1123 / 6536 / 5321 correspond to the notation of the Final Four theme [http://www.bearmccreary.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/theme-watchtower.jpg]. The song is in a C# Phrygian scale (enharmonic with A major and F# minor). 1 represents C#, and each higher integer indicates the next note in the scale, such that

:1 = C#
:2 = D
:3 = E
:(4 = F#)
:5 = G#
:6 = A
:(7 = B)

:The linked graphic omits the first and last note of the theme, but both can be heard in the soundtrack during the jump montage. The second "five" (in the third chunk of four digits) corresponds to the tuplet G#/A/G#, effectively omitting the trill up to high A. Every note has the same duration except for the last two, which are twice the length of the others.
*The Virtual Beings are angels of God who came to guide Baltar and Caprica Six in their destiny of protecting Hera.
*Kara Thrace is an angel who was sent back from the dead to guide humanity to a new home the coordinates of which were hidden in The Music.
*It is possible that some Baseships of Ones, Fours, and Fives were not at the [[Colony]] when it was destroyed, given the fact that they were observed jumping in and out of the system by Racetrack and Skulls. However, as noted in the "Notes" section it is unlikely that the Cavil, Simon and Doral lines will continue without Cylon females. The [[Three]]s are extinct with the last copy [[D'Anna Biers]] herself dying on the original Earth; Boomer killed in the Colony (and in anycase couldn't single handedly save the lines even if she were alive); and the last Sixes and Eights staying with the humans on the second Earth. However, there is the possibility of having a few remaining human females from the survivors of the various Colonial worlds including [[Caprica]] being viable, so the lines could in theory continue. However, given the total lack of success in the forced breeding of Cylons and humans and the Cavil, Dorals and Simon's cynical view of love, an apparent requirement of conception between both Cylon-Cylon and Cylon-human combinations, it is unlikely.
*On the second Earth Hera's mate that produced children was most likely human. Saul Tigh and the Leobens would be too old for her. While it was fairly common in ancient times for the men to be far older than their brides (particularly with royalty), for example with the female being as young as 12 and and the male being say 60 to take an extreme, Colonial mores, which are much like our own in real life, would forbid the Leobens from sexual congress with Hera when she reach the accepted reproductive age. On the other hand there were many human children about her age and [[Boxey (RDM)|slightly older]] in the Fleet. She could had also had children with a human child unborn at the time of the landing on Second Earth perhaps within five years to ten years of her age. It is possible that other hybrid children could had been born after the landing given that the Twos, Sixes, and Eights joined the humans. And it is possible that pure Cylon children could had been born to the age compatible Sixes, Eights, and Leobens but as noted in the series it is difficult if not impossible for a pure Cylon child to come to term making any pool of pure Cylon children that were successfully born very small. Cylon-Human mating with a human male with a Six or a Sharon is very possible with the example of Hera herself an significantly more likely than with a Cylon-Cylon birth, but it is harder than with human-human pairings making any pool of those pairing while much more likely and larger than Cylon-Cylon offspring, still quite small number compared to pure human offspring. Therefore Hera's offspring is most likely with a human. A more remote possibility is with another Cylon-human hybrid. Her producing children with a pure Cylon offspring is the least likely since pure Cylons are the least likely to exist. Another possibility is Hera mated with the native tribal humans.
*[[Ronald D. Moore]] appears as himself holding a ''National Geographic'' magazine in New York City.
*The shelters erected by the Colonials on Earth resemble [[Wikipedia:Quonset hut|Quonset huts]], World War II-era temporary structures.
*The final scenes of this episode, in fast-forwarding through time and attempting to set the entire work as a backstory, make the ending similar to that of the film [[Wikipedia:How the West Was Won (film)|How the West Was Won]].
* There are at least two distinct angels. They have known each other long and born witness to Kobol and the original Earth, as well as the Twelve Colonies and the new Earth. They can walk around and observe events even when no one else present can see them, though they may have the ability to appear to anyone they wish. In the final scene, a man walking by the Angel Six appears to check her out.
* In another piece of irony, the two beings most directly responsible for the attack and destruction of the 12 Colonies, Gaius Baltar and Caprica Six, get to live on a lush green New Earth in love with each other.
* Even if humanity does repeat the cycle, Lee Adama's plan would seem to have had some success, because it will have taken much, much longer to do so this time around.
* Ellen says that hopefully the Hybrids will ''still'' respond to Anders' commands. In other words, they would recognize him from the time the Final Five ran the Colony.
* The Final Five can be considered ancestors of present-day humanity because they created Athena and the other Eights, Twos, and Sixes.

== Questions ==
* What becomes of the Centurions?
** Do they go after the remnants of Cavil's forces, or go their separate ways?
** Will the freed Centurions eventually develop their own humanoid forms, or develop in a completely other direction?
** If there are descendants of the Centurions 150,000 years later, do they remember their history?
* Did any copies of Cavil, Doral, or Simon survive?
* Why does Cavil choose to commit suicide?
* What becomes of the Baseships seen orbiting the Colony?
* Are any other human-Cylon hybrids born on Earth, or do the Twos, Sixes, and Eights remain childless?
* If "it" doesn't like to be called [[God (RDM)|God]], what does "it" like to be called?
* Will modern humans discover remains of Colonial technology such as Raptors?
* Why do the angels still look like Baltar and Six 150,000 years later?
* Will humanity repeat the Cycle?
* Are Thrace and Anders together after Thrace's disappearance?
* Can Thrace ever return again?
* Do Baltar and Caprica-Six marry? Do they go into isolation like Adama and Tyrol, or will they be near a human colony?
* Since Caprica Six and Gaius Baltar genuinely love each other, do they eventually have a child?
* Do Adama and Tyrol stay isolated for the rest of their lives?
* Why was Romo Lampkin chosen as President? Wouldn't a member of the Quorum of Captains have been selected?
* What became of the remaining prisoners aboard the <i>[[Astral Queen]]</i>? Were they sent out amongst the rest of the human population, or were all of them deposited in some geographical area completely isolated from the other humans?
* Were any of the groups provided with medicine, or medical training or at least someone with medical knowledge before spreading out among the world?
* Is God related to the Lords of Kobol or something completely different?
* Why did the First Hybrid not want humanity to follow Thrace?
* How many angels are there? Are the ones that resemble Six and Baltar the same as those that appeared to the Final Five and Thrace, or distinct?
* Why have angels not been appearing to the Final Five since Old Earth's destruction, only to Baltar, Six, and Thrace?
* Since the notes of All Along the Watchtower lead to Earth, do they still serve a purpose on Earth?
* Will analysis of Hera's remains reveal that she was not a normal human?
* Is the evolution of humans on two planets due to the same divine hand that's been guiding other events?
* Does human life evolve on planets other than Kobol and the new Earth?
* Who did Hera eventually have children with? A human or a Cylon?
* Was it coincidence or divine intervention that an asteroid caused Racetrack's hand to hit the launch button for the nuclear weapons at the exact right moment?
* Why was Galactica able to jump without retracting its [[flight pods]] when escaping from the Colony? Did this cause Galactica to break its backbone?
* Will modern humanity venture out into space and discover places such as Kobol, the original Earth, the Twelve Colonies, and New Caprica?
* How close are the two Earths? The [[Tomb of Athena]] starmap showed constellations known on the second Earth, but was supposed to have been the sky as seen from the first. Does this mean they are very close indeed?
**New Earth is apparently 1 million light years from Kobol, and old Earth had to be within 2000 light years of Kobol and the 12 Colonies, based on the Final Five not having jump drives and having to travel at sub-light relativistic speeds. That means old Earth has to be nearly 1 million light years from new Earth. If this is the case, how do the constellations line up?
* Why was Starbuck not aware of her true nature until after her role had been fulfilled?
* In what part of Earth (a northerly island with "highlands") did Galen Tyrol settle? Scotland?
* What is the nature of Starbuck's journey to the First Earth, crash, and return in the unscathed Viper? How did she "jump" to its coordinates? If her return was engineered by God to use her as an angel and bring humanity to Earth, why do so in a way that raised more questions about how it occurred than it answered?
* In what way, if any, did Starbuck fulfill her [[The Destiny|destiny]] as the "harbinger of death" that would lead humanity to its "end"?
* How did the proto-Greek polytheistic religion of the Colonies survive nearly 150,000 years before being revived in garbled form with the rise of Greek civilization? Did it die out in practice but return through the universal subconscious?
* In what way, if any, did the Cylons' monotheistic religion and the Colonies' polytheistic religion intertwine? Did they coexist peacefully, or were there conflicts? Do modern monotheistic religions trace their traditions ultimately to those of the Cylons and the [[Cult of Baltar]]?
* During the lie detector test in the flashback scene of William Adama's attempt to secure a civilian job, why did the interrogator ask him if he was a Cylon? At that point in history, it was unknown that the Cylons had humanoid appearance.
**The question was likely a control question to establish how a truthful response to an absurd question would register.
* Even after committing the fleet to destruction, there are still serviceable Raptors on the surface of Earth, which are jump-capable. Would any of the surviving humans or Cylons come to regret having settled on a primitive world without technology and decide to return to the stars in search of resources or other habitable planets? Is there any [[tylium]] available on Earth?
* Assuming that (as Tigh indicated to Adama in [[Revelations]]) the Final Five Cylons age but the rest do not, what will become of Caprica-Six, Athena, and any other survivors of the non-Final Five models? How will Helo and Baltar cope with the non-aging of their spouses as they themselves age?
**As the humanoid Cylons are biological by nature, they will age at some rate. Considering that they are nearly identical biologically to humans, they likely age at a similar rate. It is likely that they might have previously prevented the appearance of aging due to frequent resurrection. Since that is no longer an option, they would age and die like the humans do.
* Did the old-style [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Centurions]] on the Colony fight for Cavil because they had [[telencephalic inhibitor]]s, or of their own free will? If the latter, why?
* Is the Adama family the origin of the name Adam for the mythical first man?
* Boomer's jumping of a single Raptor next to ''Galactica'' caused significant damage, and Tigh had voiced his concern that a jump from inside would rip apart ''Galactica''; so how did Starbuck's assualt squadron all jump out of the museum deck, to the asteroid field, without causing any apparent damage to ''Galactica''?
**The assault squad's jump ripped a large hole in the museum flight pod.
== Thanks for the offer and hospitality, Mr. Viper ==

Thank you so much for your words of welcome into this well put together website as well as the offer to display my artwork on a budding Battlestar Galactica fansite. I am flattered by your proposal and I would be happy to participate. I do not claim on being the best fan artist out there. I don't have graphic images or fancy computer programs. All I have is a sheet of paper, colored pencils, a scanner (which is momentarily broken), and a PowerPoint program to add additional information. Regardless, I will try my best to give BSG fans what they want. I would be honored to put my art on your site.

Thank you so much for the offer. So say we all (or maybe just me).

Mr. Viper,

Regarding your suggestions on what format to use for the Fan Art gallery, I think it should definitely be in a gallery format. Being a long time user of Wikis everywhere, I always found it easier to visually see the picture than to continuously click on an article and read look at it to see what it's like. Please advise.
Dear Mr. Viper (I think that's going to be your new nickname if I may be so bold),

I will definitely spread the word to other BSG Deviants. The only reason I haven't been posting art is (this is humiliating) I forgot how to upload images.

Incompetently yours,
== You're gonna be happy with me, Mr. Viper ==

Dear Mr. Viper,

As you have told me, I have started to direct Deviants to BSP. I haven't just directed, I've downright recruited. I already have at least five incredibly gifted artists who have agreed to let us use their pictures. However, one of them asked if this is good for college credit. Is it? Please contact me ASAP.
Mr. Viper,

I have a good idea. Really good idea.

You know how on the character pages in BSW, they give all this info on the colony, the job, the birth name, etc. of the character. What if we used that same format for the users of BSP? See my user page to get the idea of what I'm talking about.

If you like it, submit your own. I can't wait to see what colony you're from.
== Overview ==
:''[[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]]'s trial commences, with the [[Cassidy|prosecution]] presenting evidence of treason committed on [[New Caprica]] amid controversial testimonies from Colonel [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] and President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]].''

== Summary ==
===Teaser===
*[[Laura Roslin]], significantly different in dress and hairstyle, is walking through what appears to be the [[Opera House]]. She searches for and finds little [[Hera Agathon]] walking through the hallways, unable to reach her.
*Also following Hera is her mother [[Sharon Agathon]], who does not appear pleased to see Roslin in pursuit. Both women run down the stairs towards Hera.
*As they turn the corner, a [[Number Six]] in white clothing catches Hera and starts a movement as if to turn. There is a dark figure in the indistinct shadows behind her.
*Roslin wakes up. This has been a dream, though it bears a strong resemblance to Roslin's [[Chamalla|Chamalla extract]]-induced visions of the past.
*The [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] is enroute to the [[Ionian nebula]], but it is still several days away.
*Colonel [[Saul Tigh]] is trying to tune into [[Talk Wireless]] or music in [[Joe's bar]]. [[Brendan Costanza]], [[Diana Seelix]] and [[Samuel Anders]] are playing [[Pyramid (RDM)|Pyramid]]. Anders notes Tigh's attempts to find the music.
*[[Tory Foster]] speaks with [[Cassidy]], the prosecuting attorney in [[Gaius Baltar]]'s trial. Foster's assertion that [[Epiphanies|Roslin witnessed Baltar and a Six on Caprica]] doesn't convince Cassidy, who stresses the need for hard evidence and the fact that Baltar is only being tried for the charges that can be proved.
*Meanwhile, in the [[Brig|brig]], Baltar is visited by a member of the press, who wants to give him a picture of her son, who she claims is sick&mdash;she also claims, much to Baltar's bemusement, that Baltar is capable of saving her son by Baltar simply blessing him. He refuses until she forces it onto him before the [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marine]]s remove her.
*Baltar comments that she is the 5th or 6th person to visit in such a manner while [[Virtual beings|virtual Six]] appears to console the emotionally tortured Baltar, noting that an additional 30 to 40 people have written him letters.

===Act 1===
*[[Margaret Edmondson|Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson]] and [[Hamish McCall|Hamish "Skulls" McCall]] are conducting reconnaissance to see if any Cylons are following the Fleet's jumps. Their [[Raptor]] hides behind an asteroid as they play [[Triad (RDM)|cards]] and wait.
*The trial begins. Cassidy asks the courtroom how loss is measured.
*She notes the number of people who settled on New Caprica, the number who escaped in the [[Second Exodus]] and the number lost: 5,197 left behind, killed or otherwise missing.
*The attorney claims that the trust put in Baltar was gravely misplaced, and that the ultimate price must be paid.
*[[Romo Lampkin]], Baltar's attorney, immediately asks to change the plea to guilty as a ploy to use reverse psychology to claim that the power of [[w:Mob rule|mob rule]] is trying to sway opinion in the court.
*Lampkin claims that President Roslin is seeking vengeance on Baltar for [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|her lost election]], and claims that the [[New Caprica]]ns were victims of a hopeless battle. Baltar's decision to surrender to the Cylons had saved lives, he claims, versus what Lampkin claims Roslin would have done -- stand and fight.
*Back on Racetrack's Raptor, five [[Basestar (RDM)|baseships]] suddenly appear and attack. Racetrack's [[FTL]] drive barely comes online in time to allow them to escape an incoming missile.
*Back on ''[[Galactica]]'', in [[CIC]], Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]] orders a scan for any [[Cylon transponder|tracking devices]] that may have been left on Fleet ships during the New Caprica siege. At the same time [[Tory Foster]] hands Roslin a cup and a thermos can. Roslin insists on asking the incarcerated [[Caprica-Six]] for information. When Tigh objects, Roslin snaps back, uncharacteristically.
*[[Lee Adama]] enters CIC near Roslin, who is collecting herself in the Weapons Control station. He notices Roslin's cup, which she left on the table, and smells it, detecting something unexpected.
*Caprica-Six is questioned. She suggests that the [[Daru Mozu|fuel ship]] is being tracked by a unique radiation signature emitted by the ship. The [[Virtual beings|virtual Baltar]] appears and convinces her not to cooperate further. Caprica Six retaliates to Tigh's interrogation by recalling [[Ellen Tigh]], inciting Tigh to strike her, and Six to strike back before [[Marine]]s intervene and shackle the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]].

===Act 2===
*In court, Tigh is questioned, and asked if Baltar appeared to help the [[New Caprica Resistance|resistance]] in any way. Tigh is noticeably drunk. When questioned about Ellen, Tigh acknowledges her involvement but becomes more withdrawn.
*Lampkin cross-examines about the [[NCP]] [[Precipice|initiation bombing]] and how the resistance attempted to target Baltar. Lampkin continues to question about Ellen Tigh's [[Exodus, Part I|collaboration]] by asking Colonel Tigh if his wife was a collaborator, muddying the differences between Ellen Tigh and Baltar. Lampkin points out that Tigh appears drunk. Matters turn for the worse when Tigh begins to hear the music.
*Tigh is asked the nature of Ellen's death, and Tigh resolutely answers, claiming that Baltar's inaction made him kill his wife. He reflects a portion of his wife's [[Exodus, Part II|last words]] to tell how he would do anything to have Baltar killed. Tigh begins to show increasing signs of anger as the music in his head continues to increase in volume.
*In Joe's Bar, Anders turns a eye to strange noises from the bar's public wireless and shares a look with Foster.
*Under testimony, Roslin notes the execution of 200 people under Cylon tyranny.
*Lampkin attempts to get Lee Adama to give some insight about Roslin's testimony and Roslin herself, instead of being a passive observer who is simply satisfied in embittering his father.
*Lampkin attempts to play to Lee Adama's sense of justice by putting him between two difficult decisions. One being the betrayal of Roslin and his father, or putting his words about justice into action by sharing the personal information with Lampkin.

===Act 3===
*Admiral Adama drags the drunken Tigh to his quarters. The Fleet is nine jumps away from the nebula, and repairs are being made to the fuel ship to keep it from being tracked.
*Tigh says that he can't "smell her anymore" and apologizes for his actions in court. Adama replies that, as his [[Scattered|oldest friend]], he could never embarrass him.
*In the admiral's quarters, Major Adama suggests the idea of sending the fuel ship on a different course to throw off the Cylons temporarily, and the admiral, who appears a little less than sober himself, coldly takes it under advisement.
*The two Adamas verbally spar. Admiral Adama angrily accuses his son of helping Lampkin by telling him about what Tigh did to Ellen. The major denies knowing anything about that, and his father calls him a liar, and a coward, for not having the guts to face Tigh with the accusations himself. He further states that Baltar is a guilty traitor, and does not deserve a trial at all.
*In response, Major Adama resigns from military duty, stating flatly that he will not serve under a man who questions his integrity. The admiral accepts the resignation, stating with the same cold bitterness that he will not accept an officer who has none.
*At the next court session, Lee Adama asks permission to question Roslin himself.
*Lee Adama (in civilian dress) questions President Roslin about the number of times that Baltar saved her life. He points out that it was Baltar who [[Epiphanies|saved her from cancer]]. When Admiral Adama objects, Lampkin asks for hostile witness latitude, which is given.
*Roslin admits that her cancer was cured thanks to Baltar's idea to inject her with the blood of the half-Cylon child. When asked what medications she was taking at the time, she claims that she cannot remember because she was taking a lot of different things. When asked specifically about [[chamalla]] use, Roslin answers in the affirmative but she points out that her use of it [[Home, Part II|provided the first clues to Earth]], and also notes Lee Adama's own involvement.
*Before Lee Adama asks his next question, Roslin whispers to him: "Don't do this." He then asks if she is taking chamalla again.
*Admiral Adama tries to overrule the line of questioning but other tribunal judges overrule him, forcing Roslin to answer. She recalls [[Miniseries, Night 1|her fondness for Lee Adama's early leadership]], how calling him "Captain Apollo" way back then had a nice ring to it, but how sad she is for him now.
*Adama notes that chamalla can be sweetened to mask its bitter taste, recalling the cup of tea that Tory gave Roslin at ''Galactica'''s CIC, which gave him the clue to her use of the drug.
*Roslin confirms that she is taking chamalla again. She then challenges counselor Adama to finish what he started with his last question. After being goaded by her to do so, he asks her why she was taking the drug again. She tells the court that she is taking the drug again because her cancer has returned.

===Act 4===
*[[Anastasia Dualla]] packs her bags and leaves her husband in disgust over his questioning of Roslin and his usage of a justice system that she believes is very dysfunctional.
*On ''[[Colonial One]]'', reporters pepper President Roslin about her cancer, how it will be treated, and if she plans on using Hera Agathon's blood again. The line of questioning infuriates Foster, causing her to lash out at the reporters, and Roslin asks her to leave the press conference. When [[Karen Fallbrook]] asks how long the President has to live, an unflinching Roslin repeats the same question at the reporter, leaving Fallbrook speechless.
*After the press conference, Roslin angrily criticizes her aide, complaining that Foster is off her game. Foster claims that she hasn't been sleeping well. Roslin is unsympathetic, and flatly states that if Foster does not pull it together, she will have her replaced by someone who can "run a comb through her hair" once a week.
*In his quarters, the drunken Tigh still hears the mysterious music and tries to track its source.
*[[Helo]] arrives in CIC as interim [[Executive officer]] and finds Lt. [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]], who briefs him. The [[tylium]] fuel ship decoy plan is nearing completion, but there are no further reports of Cylon forces. The Fleet is a mere three jumps from the nebula.
*Helo remembers a certain smell in the air when trouble was brewing, recalling the weather on [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] before a big storm. He believes that "something over the horizon" is coming, something that doesn't bode well for the Fleet. "A storm is coming," he says.
*[[The Music|The music]] that Tigh, Anders, and Foster are hearing appears to be coming from the ship itself.

===Bonus Scene===

* Lee Adama asks Lampkin, "You know he's guilty, right?". Lampkin appeals to Adama's sense of justice, stating that everyone is guilty of something and there is a difference between guilt and criminality.

== Notes ==

*The episode has one of the most sparse musical scores yet. The only major pieces are during Roslin's dream at the beginning and the music Tigh keeps hearing. According to a [http://bearmccreary.com/html/blog/blog027.htm blog entry] by composer [[Bear McCreary]], director [[Michael Rymer]] and the editors decided not to use any music during the court room part, in order to let the scenes speak for themselves.
*It is the first episode without an intro sequence, thus increasing the effective running time a little bit. Because of that, no updated [[Survivor Count]] is available.
*The bitterness of chamalla and that it can be sweetened to make it taste better, is first mentioned by the oracle [[Dodona Selloi]] in "[[Exodus, Part I]]".
*One of the shots of others listening to the trial on the [[wireless]] shows the [[refinery ship]] from "[[Dirty Hands]]".
*A storm is often used as a metaphor for a battle, conflict, or massive upheaval in science fiction. Helo's final line in this episode is almost an exact duplicate of the ending of the movie ''[[w:The Terminator|The Terminator]]'', and is very similar to the warning issued by the prophetess in ''[[w:The Stand|The Stand]]''. A huge storm (a sandstorm) also takes place during the climax of the novel ''[[w:Dune (novel)|Dune]]''. Additionally, at the end of the ''[[w:Doctor Who|Doctor Who]]'' episode "Fear Her," the Doctor tells Rose that there's "something in the air. Something coming.... A storm's approaching," foreshadowing the invasion of Earth by the Daleks and the Cybermen in the Series 2 finale.

== Analysis ==

* [[Samuel Anders]] wears a uniform with rank insignia and hangs around with Seelix and Costanza. Together with being addressed as "you [[nugget]]s", this indicates that he joined the pilot training program.
* The Cylons have apparently been tracking the Fleet since the destruction of the Temple of Five. Their strategy was to delay jumping into any system that the Fleet has been until after six plus hours to ensure that the Fleet would not realize that they were being tracked.
* Adama's military experience comes into play again when he orders that the decoy Raptor stay for a total of 12 hours. This is reminiscent of his previous strategies such as the decision to attack the Cylon tylium factory in "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]". When he changes the regular pattern and stays longer than the Cylons had expected, he finally catches them in the act.
* Lee Adama immediately displays signs of fear once Roslin challenges him to "finished what you(he) started" after asking her if she is taking chamalla again. This indicates that either he suspected that Roslin's cancer has returned or he was beginning to feel that his actions are treacherous.
*This is not the first time that a belief in taking a principled but unpopular stand leads Lee Adama into a morally dubious area. Ironically one such decision also involves Laura Roslin - Lee's decision to mutiny against his father when the then Commander Adama tries to remove Roslin from office during the events of "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]". He almost precipitates a gun battle aboard ''Colonial One'' when he mutinies against Colonel Tigh, who is commanding the strike team sent to arrest Roslin, who ultimately surrenders and does not back the younger Adama's move. This suggests a continuous personality trait of failing to judge the consequences of a headstrong pursuit of a perceived moral cause. Soon after, Lee exhibits a similar late realization of the dangerous moral territory he wandered into when he hesitates and ultimately finds himself unable to advocate a widespread mutiny against his father's leadership over the wireless ([[The Farm]]).
**The tendency to try and stand on principle (and thus assuage one's own conscience) over practicality seems to be an Adama family trait. The elder Adama has also done this on numerous occasions, sometimes with tragic results ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).
* When Helo tells Gaeta that a "storm is coming", it hearkens back to Adama's words to him at the end of "[[The Woman King]]", specifically to how Helo has often been the voice in the wilderness. His ability to sense or remember certain details hails back to the final scene in "[[Rapture]]" when he remembers that Thrace had painted the picture of the mandala. It is also similar to his wife predicting that "Something dark is coming" in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]".
* Lampkin's opening statement is another prime example of his rhetorical skill. He uses reverse psychology to goad the mob to respond and eventually lead one man in the audience to state his desire to see Baltar die. This display of emotion plays in Lampkin's favor as it would make the judges wary of giving into the mob mentality. Secondly, he cleverly paints Roslin as a fanatic by proposing that had Roslin been president when the Cylons invaded New Caprica, the entire human race would have been exterminated. However, as [[Precipice|Zarek has stated to Roslin]], if she had been President, the settlement and eventual invasion of New Caprica would have never taken place.
** The opening statement is like the opening statement in the film "[[Wikipedia:The Devil's Advocate (film)|The Devil's Advocate]]".
* It appears the closer the Fleet is to the nebula, the more Tigh, Anders, and Foster hear the music. Even, at least in the case of Foster, to the point of exhaustion.
* Tory Foster appears to be losing her composure to some extent based on her declining grooming habits and snappish attitude toward the reporters.
* There is a growing number of people in the Fleet who believe that Baltar has some sort of healing or divine abilities. His internal-Six doesn't want him to brush off these devoted followers, indicating that his belief that he is the "Chosen One" is coming true.
* Lee Adama's actions towards his father and Roslin have led to another impasse between himself and Dualla. Lee Adama has come to a point where he has been alienated from his father, from Roslin, and his wife, in an attempt to gain some sort of respect from Lampkin and to act in accordance with his noble conceptions of justice by following in his grandfather's footsteps.
* Lee Adama's words to the pilots in "[[A Day in the Life]]" come back to haunt Racetrack when the Cylons jump on top of her Raptor right after the end of a card game. The ship's systems apparently had been powered down as Racetrack can't even maneuver or evade the missile to give the FTL drive a few more moments to spin up.
* Baltar is only being tried for crimes that the prosecution believes can be proven. He is therefore not being tried for the genocide of humanity that occurred during the [[Miniseries]]. Although the show's audience knows his involvement, none of the primary characters in the series who give testimony have to date any hard evidence of his complicity, beyond Laura Roslin's drug-induced recollection whilst dying of cancer in "[[Epiphanies]]". This is acknowledged before, when she tries to challenge Baltar about the settlement of New Caprica. She tells him that she saw him together with Six, but knows that she has no concrete evidence ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]).
* [[Cassidy]]'s numbers for the surviving human population are contradictory. It seems that the number the writers arrived at for the surviving humans only refers to the ''civilian'' population of the Fleet, excluding the military personnel. The regular survivor count in "[[Collaborators]]" is higher. The second confusion stems from her saying "the sum total of survivors [...] who settled on New Caprica". This clearly means only the people down on the planet. However her number of 44,035 also includes the ''total'' population left in orbit, both military and civilian. This writing error makes her statement that 5,197 people were lost entirely inaccurate, but aside from that the numbers fit with what has been established before (see: [[Survivor Count]]):
**41,435 (Collaborators) - 38,838 = 2,597 (the military personnel in the Fleet)
**44,035 - 39,192 (the inhabitants of [[New Caprica City]]) = 4,835 (the total population in orbit)
**4,835 - 2,597 = 2,238 (Lee Adama refers to roughly 2,000 civilians who escaped New Caprica in "[[Precipice]]")
**49,550 (count in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]") - 39,192 - 4,835 (total population in orbit) = 5,523 (the death toll prior to the occupation, mostly incurred with the destruction of ''Cloud Nine'')
**49,550 - 5,523 - 41,435 = 2,592 (the causalities of the Cylon occupation and the escape from New Caprica)

== Questions ==

* Did Tigh continue drinking all the time, or did he stop for a while after he seemingly pulled himself together again?
* Why does Anders pursue becoming a pilot?
* Is there a budding romance developing between Anders and Seelix? ([[Crossroads, Part II|Answer]])
* What will Seelix and Anders's callsigns be? ([[:Image:Viper_3266NC.jpg|Answer]] for Seelix)
* What is the mysterious music and where is it coming from? ([[Crossroads, Part II|Partial answer]])
* Why are Tigh, Anders, and Foster apparently the only ones who can hear the ever-increasing music? ([[Crossroads, Part II|Answer]])
* Is the music's volume and clarity increasing because the Fleet is approaching the Ionian nebula?
* Is Roslin back on chamalla extract because of prescription from Cottle or is she attempting to receive visions of the future again?
* Did Athena or Caprica-Six receive the same vision that Roslin found herself in during the teaser of the episode? ([[#Podcast|Partial answer]])
* Who is the shadowy figure behind the Six in Roslin's vision?
* Who is the Six in Roslin's vision? Caprica-Six or Baltar's virtual Six?
* Would Athena and Helo be willing to donate some of Hera's blood to save Roslin from her cancer?
* Barring any effective treatment, how long does Roslin have to live?
* With Helo temporarily assigned as XO, who has replaced him as CAG? Or is he temporarily holding down both posts?
* Why does Roslin look so different in her dream?
* Will Baltar take the stand? ([[Crossroads, Part II|Answer]])
* Will Caprica Six take the stand? ([[Crossroads, Part II|Answer]])
* Where is Zarek in the midst of the trial proceedings?
* How is Caprica's virtual Baltar aware of the details of Saul and Ellen Tigh's relationship and Ellen's death?
* Why has Adama waited so long to order a sweep of tracking devices throughout the Fleet?
=== Cast Statements ===

* ''[[Mark Sheppard]] discusses the animosity towards Admiral [[William Adama]] seen in this episode:''
: '''Mark Sheppard:''' But I love that Romo is— I don’t know, I think he’s smarter then everybody else. (laughs) I played him like he’s smarter then everybody else. Then there is this wonderful thing that the writers created, which is that he is the protégé of [[Joseph Adama]]. But his age falls between [[William Adama]] and [[Lee Adama]]. To me it’s almost as though Joseph Adama had a second family. You know that with fathers that have a second family there’s always a younger, there’s a middle kid. So the grandson and the father, there is somebody in between them and they are in between in age as well as status. And I thought it was a fantastic thing to play. Most of my antagonism was actually played towards the Admiral, not towards Lee. The entire court room scene, looking at the shots, like whenever they bring [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] to the stand. To bring Tigh to the stand to be a witness, to give evidence, is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. He has no evidence, not any at all &mdash; it’s all anecdotal. So we have a situation by which I’m not performing to the audience I’m performing to William Adama, going to Tigh: "You [[Exodus, Part II|killed]] [[Ellen Tigh|your wife]] and [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]]’s responsible, thank you very much now go away", but directed to William Adama: "This is your idea of justice, this is what you are doing with justice." I believe that the system is corrupt, but it’s not unsalvagable. I love the character, Col. Tigh’s character, [[Michael Hogan]] just gives the most amazing performance as his character. If I could play anybody that is who I’d want to play, as Tigh.<ref name="tsw">{{cite_web|url=http://www.thescifiworld.net/interviews/mark_sheppard_01.htm|title=The Sci-Fi World: Mark Sheppard interview|date=1 May 2007|accessdate=24 May 2007|last=Nuytens|first=Gilles|format=|language=}}</ref>

* ''Sheppard discusses why [[Gaius Baltar]] is the target:''
: '''Sheppard:''' Yes, [Baltar is] the easy one to punish. He’s like [[w:Daffy Duck|Daffy Duck]] as opposed to [[w:Bugs Bunny|Bugs Bunny]], he represents what we really are, as pathetic, and sad and useless as we really are (laughs) under most conditions. Most human beings are not heroes, most human beings do not behave heroically, certainly not all the time. What an incredible aspiration.<ref name="tsw"/>

* ''Sheppard discusses filming the court scenes:''
: '''Sheppard:''' Yeah. It was like ''[[w:Twelve Angry Men|Twelve Angry Men]]''. The takes were nine, eleven, fourteen minutes long. Each piece we did was between nine and fourteen minutes long, and [director [[Michael Rymer|Michael] Rymer]] would put up cameras, three cameras, and we’d shoot. And we’d shoot at the same intensity and the same ferocity from the beginning to end of whatever section we were doing. We’d go as far as we could go. So [[Jamie Bamber|Jamie [Bamber]]]’s [[Crossroads, Part II|penultimate scene]]…Apollo’s penultimate scene – his wonderful speech at the end – actually the beginning of that take is the interrogation of Gaeta. So it starts with [[Chelah Horsdal]], “[[Cassidy]]” starting the interrogation of Gaeta, and it goes all the way through to the end with “No further questions.”

: And we did it all in a day. That was a day’s worth of shooting. And it was an amazing piece to do. And I remember Rymer looking at it and going, “Hold on a second, I, uh – our chapters are only nine minutes long. How the hell are we gonna get fourteen minutes into a nine minute chapter?” That’s for the commercials. It was great.<ref>{{cite_web|url=http://www.buddytv.com/articles/battlestar-galactica/exclusive-interview-mark-shepp-7849.aspx|title=Buddytv.com Exclusive Interview: Mark Sheppard, from 'Battlestar Galactica'|date=3 July 2007|accessdate=13 August 2007|last=|first=|format=|language=}}</ref>

* ''[[Tahmoh Penikett]] discusses his reaction to [[Michael Hogan]]'s performance in the episode:''

: I know that last year, some of Michael Hogan's work touched me so deeply that—especially in the court scene—he had this moment where he was being pressed and he breaks, and he looks at Adama...

: I talked about that for weeks...I thought about it for weeks...it just broke me. I literally was weeping when I saw that. Just that connection...he was completely mad and he had this switch, and he looked at Adama, his best friend, and he just—he admitted it—it was so horrible and so touching....but there's been so many moments like that throughout the series with so much of the cast.<ref name="acedmag">{{cite_web|url=http://acedmagazine.com/content/view/677/1/|title=ACED Magazine: Battlestar Galactica: Cast Interviews|date=24 November 2007|accessdate=25 November 2007|last=Bensoussan|first=Jenna|format=|language=}}</ref>
=== Podcast ===

Notes from the podcast:

* The opening teaser is indeed set in the Kobol Opera House that has been seen numerous times. This particular scene in the teaser was a late addition as the director and producers wanted to create a foreboding atmosphere to the episode. This was influenced by the fact that the studio executives were not favorable to the idea of ending the season with Baltar's trial.

* RDM goes more into the original trial storyline that involved the Sagittarons and Baltar. In summary, during their time on New Caprica, the food supply had been contaminated and a famine had fallen on most of the colonists, except the Sagittarons, who had been very careful with their harvests and supplies. This alienation between the Sagittarons and the rest of the colonies came to a collision when Baltar was attempting to have the Sagittaron leadership share their food with the other colonists. Unfortunately, Baltar is forced to kill one of the leaders, and thus began the riots and slaughter directed towards the Sagittarons. This killing was to be eventually revealed that it was a necessity instead of an act of genocide.

* Another component of the original storyline was to have Lee Adama be Baltar's only attorney and Lee's morals come into play when he obtains a video recording of Baltar actually shooting the Sagittaron leader. The cliff hanger of the episode was suppose to leave the audience wondering what will Lee do now that he believes Baltar is guilty.

* Over time, RDM and the director agreed that this storyline involved too many plot elements that the audience had never witnessed about Baltar. Once the decision was made, RDM completely revised the whole trial and rewrote the episodes.

* RDM hints that Athena and Roslin did indeed see each other during the dream sequence. A deleted scene had Roslin in the the restroom attempting to cool her head down while Athena comes out from one of the stalls. They looked at each other briefly in a silent acknowledgment that they did see each other in the dream.

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

* {{audio|320 integrity.mp3|''The showdown of the Adamas:''}}
: '''[[Lee Adama]]''': I will not serve under a man who questions my integrity.
: '''[[William Adama]]''': And won't have an officer under my command who doesn't have any.

* ''[[William Adama|Adama]] helping a drunk [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] into bed''
: '''[[Saul Tigh]]''': I'm sorry about all that in court.
: '''[[William Adama]]''': There's nothing to be sorry about.
: '''[[Saul Tigh]]''': I embarrassed you. Made you look bad.
: '''[[William Adama]]''': You're my oldest friend, Saul. You never embarrass me.

*''Cassidy's indictment of Baltar''
:'''[[Cassidy]]''': How do we measure loss? (pauses) How do we measure loss? We measure it in the faces of the dead. The faces that haunt our memories and our dreams. How do we measure loss? We measure it in our own faces, the ones we see in our mirror every day, because it has marked each of us. So how do we measure loss? When the scale of it becomes too hard to absorb any other way we use numbers. How many killed, how many maimed, how many missing. And when those numbers become too vast to comprehend, as they did two years ago, we had to turn it around. We began to count the living. Those of us who survived to continue the saga of the human race. (walks to a white board and begins to write down.) 44,035; the sum total of survivors from the Twelve Colonies who settled on New Caprica with President Gaius Baltar as their leader and protector. 38,838; our number the day after we escaped. And the missing number, the one no one wants to face? 5,197. 5,197 of us killed, left behind or simply disappeared. 5,197 of all that remains of the human race; lost. The citizens of the Twelve Colonies entrusted their fate and their lives to Gaius Baltar. What we received was a reign of terror that staggers our mind and breaks our hearts. Instead of guidance, we got tyranny. Instead of justice, we got oppression. Instead of a president, we got a murderer. Today humanity holds him accountable for his crime. Gauis Baltar is not a victim. Gauis Baltar chose to side with the Cylons and to actively seek the deaths of his fellow citizens. For that he must pay the ultimate price.

*''Conversation between [[Lee Adama]], [[Romo Lampkin]], and [[Gaius Baltar]] after the second court session''
:'''[[Romo Lampkin]]''': You're awfully quite.
:'''[[Lee Adama]]''': Nah. Just listening.
:'''[[Romo Lampkin]]''': See, your problem is I'm a really good liar and you're not. So let's have it.
:'''[[Lee Adama]]''': Have what?
:'''[[Gaius Baltar]]''': My god, he's right. You do know something. You know something and you're not saying it.
:'''[[Lee Adama]]''': [[Chamalla|It]] might not even be true.
:'''[[Romo Lampkin]]''': I like it already.

== Welcome to Battlestar Wiki! ==

Greetings, Forestbender, and welcome to Battlestar Wiki! I hope you enjoy your stay with us and am looking forward to your contributions to the Wiki! Why not begin by telling us a bit about yourself on your own [[User:Forestbender|user page]]?

As you may already know, Battlestar Wiki covers all the ''Battlestar Galactica'' series from past to present, in addition to authorized merchandise. Presently, we don't cover fan fiction, but our sister-site, [[bsp:|Battlestar Pegasus]], does so. We're also not a discussion site, although we do have an ever-growing [http://www.battlestarforum.com Battlestar Forum] where people can discuss the various shows and non-BSG topics as well!

To get started on the wiki, we suggest that you check out our [[BW:TUT|tutorial]], experiment in [[BW:SAND|the sandbox]] (a test editing area for those learning wiki code), and review some of our basic [[BW:POL|policies]] (which have important differences from other SF wikis).

Of course, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, you are more than welcome to bring them up at the [[BW:CN|Chiefs' noticeboard]] (which is frequented by the administrators of the Wiki) and at the [[BW:GQ|Galactipedians' Quorum]] (which is the hub for contributors, who are called "Galactipedians").

Furthermore, if you don't wish to see the ads, then please consider upgrading your account to a [[BW:MEMBERSHIP|paid membership]], which costs only $10 USD a year and helps support the wiki financially. Becoming a member also entitles you to our [[BW:RAFFLE|raffle]], where you can win gift cards, merchandise, and other prizes! We think this is ver cool, and we hope you do as well!

Thank you for joining us! Hope to see you soon!

My name isn't battlestar-specific either, as I too have tried to maintain a consistent identity for my online presence. (Not too many people pick up on the Battletech reference anymore.) However, that's not really why I piped in... I noticed that you mentioned that you do BSG-related art at deviantart, and I thought I'd go ahead and welcome you to submit any of your BSG work to Battlestar Pegasus. While Battlestar Wiki isn't a place for fan art, Battlestar Pegasus is striving to be a place where BSG fans can bring their creative works together, hopefully becoming a Battlestar Wiki for fan-derived work. It's run by the same people (mostly Joe), and I've been doing a little work over there helping to adapt BattlestarCentral's bulletin-board collaborative fiction to the wiki format. Joe's also got some scripts (published and otherwise) from the older series up. I'm not aware of any fan art that's up there, and I'm sure Joe would love it if you'd check it out. --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 11:18, 1 March 2008 (CST)
:Thanks for your contribution to BSP! If you check out the [[bsp:Portal:Fan Art|Portal:Fan Art]] over there you'll find your entry as the "selected picture". That portal is obviously heavily under construction, but feel free to add to it (I imagine you've got some leads on web resources) or offer suggestions. Also... I'm not quite sure how we're going to organize the fan art. We could do categories (Category:Pictures by Forestbender), galleries (Gallery of Pictures by Forestbender, perhaps located in your user space so you could edit it without interference), or maybe a little of both. I'll run it by Joe and see if he has any ideas. --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 16:39, 1 March 2008 (CST)
::To upload an image (or whatever) at BSP, just click on the toolbox in the left toolbar once you're logged in. The "upload file" should be under there. --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 17:02, 6 March 2008 (CST)
== College Credit ==
Unfortunately, ever since "the incident" (something involving double-secret probation, a toga party, and a horse) Battlestar Wiki (and its parent organization, FrakMedia) have lost any college accreditation that we once had. While we can't give out college credit (and any degrees conferred by the Battlestar Wiki are pretty much worth the paper they're printed on, plus ink/toner), publishing on Battlestar Pegasus does provide another avenue for artists to have their work seen by others, to network with other artists (and authors, etc), and do so without sacrificing the licensing/copyright on their work. If we can attract the same quality of contributors to BSP that we have at BW, it should be a Battlestar Galactica destination in short order. --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 16:27, 7 March 2008 (CST)
== Just saying hello ==

Hello Mr. Viper,

Sorry I haven't been contributing to BSP. I've been busy writing a report on the Coelacanth (the fossil fish found thriving at thriving at the bottom of the ocean. It's actually pretty interesting stuff). Anyway, just saying hello. Hope you don't mind.

Took the survey. Hope I win. I've been trying to get a hold of the soundtrack for a while.
== Overview ==

: ''Continuing from the events of "[[Act of Contrition]]", Commander [[William Adama|Adama]] and Captain [[Lee Adama]] risk the security of [[The Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] as they try to locate a downed Starbuck...''

== Summary ==

* [[Kara Thrace]] is missing following a dogfight with [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raiders]] ([[Act of Contrition]]). While he was forced out of the fight, [[Brendan Costanza|Hot Dog]] is convinced her [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] was not destroyed.
* [[William Adama|Adama]] immediately orders a search started, and [[Lee Adama]] leads it in a Viper.
* On the surface of a small moon, Starbuck awakes to find herself being dragged by a strong wind catching her parachute. Before she can cut herself free of the parachute lines, which have tangled about her legs, she is dragged a considerable distance, smashing her knee in the process.
* When the initial space search fails to locate Starbuck’s Viper, [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]] suggests she may be on a [[Red Moon|moon orbiting the gas giant]]. Adama orders a low-level search of the moon’s surface. At the same time he accepts an offer from [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] to have the ships of the Fleet continue the space search. Lt. Gaeta calculates that Starbuck has around 46 hours of air left in her oxygen tanks.
* [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] is worried that if they remain in the area too much longer, the Cylons might find them.
* Aware she is probably being searched for, Starbuck determines to try and make her way to high ground, where she stands a better chance of being seen. Along the way, she asks the [[Lords of Kobol]] for help, and comes across a downed [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raider]] from the confrontation leading to her crash.
* As the search of the moon continues, the dust-laden atmosphere begins to have its effect on the [[Galactica (RDM)|''Galactica'']]'s Vipers: 13 are grounded due to mechanical problems. The constant flying is causing other problems: ''Galactica''’s fuel reserves for her fighters are being used at an alarming rate.
* Tigh also points out that the Fleet is now spread right across the star system, leaving it vulnerable to attack should the Cylons show up.
* On the moon, Starbuck is determined to make the Raider space-worthy, and sets about accessing it – only to find it is bio-mechanical: inside the vehicle is a mass of organs, veins and tubes.
* As time passes, Adama and Lee further risk the Fleet by pulling in the [[Combat Air Patrol|CAP]] Vipers to assist with the search.
* When the timer in the [[CIC]] indicates Starbuck’s air has (presumably) expired, Adama continues the search, relieving Tigh of his duties when he challenges the order.
* With her air supply all but gone, Starbuck manages to find an oxygen supply hose in the Raider and seals the insides of the vehicle so she can breathe. She then sets out trying to work out how the Raider flies.
* As Lee and Adama continue to monitor the search of the moon, Roslin arrives on ''Galactica''. Determined to put a stop to things, she challenges both Adama and Lee concerning their single-mindedness and the way it is putting the survival of the fleet and mankind at risk.
* Realising they have perhaps gone too far, Adama calls off the search and orders the Fleet readied to [[FTL|jump]].
* With the Fleet successfully away, ''Galactica'' is about to jump herself when a Cylon Raider appears. Vipers are prepped for launch, however a malfunction with ''Galactica'''s launch tubes allows only Capt. Adama's Viper to launch.
* Making contact with the Raider, Lee discovers the truth – Starbuck is piloting the Raider; she used tape to write her name on the bottom of the Raider and flew formation with Lee's Viper. He escorts her back to ''Galactica'', where she lands and is taken to [[sickbay]].
* Visiting her in sickbay later, Adama congratulates her on her performance – an indirect way of letting her know she is forgiven for Zak.

===On Caprica===
* [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Valerii]] are still hiding in the “fallout shelter”, but Helo determines they must move on.
* [[Cylon Centurion]]s arrive, apparently conducting a search. A fight ensues.
* Helo is knocked unconscious, and when he awakens, Valerii is gone.

== Notes ==
*[[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raiders]] are bio-mechanical in nature, and their biomass uses a breathable, oxygen-rich mix suitable for humans.
*[[Viper (RDM)|Vipers]] are atmosphere-capable - indeed, it appears they may have been regularly used in the atmospheres of Colonial worlds, given they are equipped with a parachute.
*Vipers can be refueled in space (and presumably in relatively calm atmospheres).
* Starbuck's damaged Viper disintegrates around her upon re-entry, compelling her to eject. The Raider that she disables and forces down on the moon is, when she finds it, notably space-worthy.
*Colonial [[flight suit]]s are capable of full life support, both planet-side (Starbuck) and in space ([[Brendan Costanza|Hot Dog]]). In the case of Vipers, the back section of the pilot’s seat appears in effect to be a life-support backpack that detaches from the rest of the seat following ejection.
*[[Raptor]] cabins can be depressurized and repressurized (Hot Dog's rescue), adding to their versatility.
*[[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] has the same image that the pilots touch when leaving the Ready Room.
*Colonials play billiard pool.
*The messy organic interior of the Raider was inspired by the ''[[w:Alien (film series)|Alien]]'' series, according to [[David Eick]] on the DVD commentary.
* The scene where [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]], in a Cylon Raider, shakes off [[Lee Adama|Apollo]]'s attack is remarkably similar to a scene from the Original Series ("[[The Hand of God (TOS)|The Hand of God]]") in which [[Apollo (TOS)|Apollo]] and [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] avoid being shot down in a Cylon Raider by waggling their wings.
*Baltar is requisitioning something that requires the President's authorization – the use of one of [[Galactica (RDM)|''Galactica'']]'s nuclear warheads for his research.
*[[William Adama]] is capable of letting personal feelings rise above professional duty.

== Analysis ==
*On Caprica, the Cylons have apparently stepped up their manipulations of Helo a notch: and they appear determine to test / increase his feelings for Valerii. "Love", and possibly "procreation" seems to be at the heart of their manipulations. The evidence for this comes from the last few episodes:
**'''[[Water]]''': Helo scans the airwaves, failing to find any other signals. Caprica-Sharon makes a comment about them being the only two people left on the planet, and the way she says it makes it hard to keep the words “Adam and Eve” from popping into one’s head – especially with all the other religious motifs that have surrounded our insight into Cylon aims (even if they are from "Six’s" perspective);
**'''[[Water]]''': Helo is obviously attracted to Caprica-Sharon, as evidenced by his embarrassment following the "spontaneous" hug she gives him when they first hear the radio broadcast. Sharon’s disappearance seems to be the first Cylon attempt to accentuate Helo’s feelings for her;
**'''[[Act of Contrition]]''': as a result of the (clearly-planted) "radio broadcast", they come across a fully-equipped radiation shelter, which does not appear to have been used, and which is more than cozily set-up for a long duration stay for two people;
**This episode: when Helo suggests they pack up and leave the shelter, Sharon’s look is, for a moment, distinctly odd, and she challenges him with a slightly sultry "Unless you can think of a reason to stay here." Valerii’s comment seems calculated to give Helo an opportunity to express a physical interest in her. Her disappointment is evident when he says they should move on;
**This episode: no sooner is the decision made to move on than Cylon Centurions turn up. The ensuing firefight leaves Helo unconscious, but (surprisingly) alive;
**This episode: when Helo revives, Caprica-Sharon is gone, and he’s no longer thinking about leaving the planet – he’s only concerned with what has happened to Sharon.
*During the fight in the restaurant, the Cylon Centurion clearly makes only a token attempt to kill Helo – although it does a pretty good job of shooting up the kitchen as a whole. Helo is surprisingly incurious about his survival. His concern about Caprica-Sharon's disappearance seems to overwhelm any suspicion. Besides, unlike the viewers, Helo has simply been given no outside reason to suspect that the Cylons want to keep him alive and that he is in an "experiment" of theirs. However, as Season 1 progresses Helo ''does'' start to gradually suspect that something is amiss.
*This episode seems to suggest a subtle demarcation between Baltar's hallucinatory Number Six and the other Cylons. Previously, she has referred to them as "we" – implying she is still a part of them. Here she refers to the Cylons very much in the third person: "they". Is this indicative of a possible shift in her loyalties, that the Cylons truly are totally unaware of her presence, or is she simply manipulating Baltar?
*Are all Cylons bio-mechanical? Probably not, as Helo puts a shot straight through the head of a Cylon Centurion. If any organic matter were contained therein, one would expect blood and/or gore to exit the wound. This does not appear to be the case.

== Questions ==

*With almost 50% of fuel reserves gone, can ''Galactica'' obtain additional supplies to keep her Vipers flying? ([[The Hand of God (RDM)|Answer]])
*What use will be made of the captured Raider? ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I|Answer]])
*How many more Cylon spacecraft include biological elements in their design? ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II|Answer]])
*Will Helo now go in search of the “missing” Valerii? ([[Litmus|Answer]])
*Will he question why the Cylon Centurion left him unconscious in the restaurant, rather than taking him prisoner? ([[Colonial Day|Answer]])
*Did the Cylons develop bio-mechanical capabilities first in a basic form with the Raiders, before going on to develop the humanoid constructs? ([[Hybrid|Partial answer]])

== Official Statements ==

* ''[[Bear McCreary]] discusses the "Cylon Theme" and its relation to this episode:''
: "This theme was originally performed using pots, pans and [[toaster]]s for the metallic effects. It was composed before I had seen 'You Can't Go Home Again', which includes a scene where Helo battles centurions in a cafe kitchen and bullets ricochet off pots, pans and a toaster!"<ref>{{cite_web|url=http://www.bearmccreary.com/html/blog/blog013.htm|title=The Themes of Battlestar Galactica, Part II|date=10 November 2006|accessdate=25 November 2006|last=McCreary|first=Bear|format=blog|language=English}}</ref>

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

*''[[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] to the crashed [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raider]]:''

:'''Starbuck''': Are you... alive?

*''Starbuck upon entering the crashed Cylon Raider:''

:'''Starbuck''': You bite me, I'll bite you back.

*''The Adamas discuss their recent actions:''
:'''[[Lee Adama|Apollo]]''': I want you to know, I think [[Laura Roslin|she]]'s wrong. I think we have come to terms with what happened to [[Zak Adama|Zak]].<br/>
:'''[[William Adama]]''': I haven't.<br/>
:'''Apollo''': I need to know something: Why did you do this? Why did we do this? Is it for Kara? For Zak? For what?<br/>
:'''Adama''': Kara was family. You do whatever you have to do. Sometimes you break the rules.<br/>
:'''Apollo''': And if it was me down there instead?<br/>
:'''Adama''': You don't have to ask that.<br/>
:'''Apollo''': Are you sure?<br/>
:'''Adama''': If it were you... we'd never leave.<br/>

*"Conversation between [[William Adama|Commander Adama]], [[Lee Adama]], and [[Laura Roslin|President Roslin]] over the [[SAR]] Mission for [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]]:"
:'''[[Saul Tigh|Tigh]]:''' (walking in w/ Roslin) President Roslin.<br/>
:'''[[William Adama|Adama]]:''' Madam President.<br/>
:'''[[Laura Roslin|Roslin]]:''' Skip the formalities. You both know [[Skirmish over the Red Moon| why I'm here]].<br/>
:'''[[William Adama|Adama]]:''' Termination of a [[Kara Thrace| pilot's]] rescue mission is a military decision. <br/>
:'''[[Laura Roslin|Roslin]]:''' That's a bunch of crap. It's not military. It's personal. Neither of you can let go of Kara Thrace because she's you're [[Act of Contrition|last link]] to [[Zak Adama|Zak]].<br/>
:'''[[Lee Adama|Apollo]]:''' You don't know anything about my brother.<br/>
:'''[[Laura Roslin|Roslin]]:''' Don't even begin, Captain. You've lost perspective, as have [[William Adama|you]]. Under normal circumstances, it would just be sad that the two of you can't come to terms with Zak's death. In this situation, you are putting you're pilots at risk, and you're exposing the entire [[The Fleet (RDM)|fleet]] to possible attack every moment we stay here.<br/>
:'''[[William Adama|Adama]]:''' We've been at risk of an attack since [[Miniseries|Day One]]. [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] won't be missing their patrol for at least one more day.<br/>
:'''[[Laura Roslin|Roslin]]:''' (steps closer to [[William Adama|Adama]]) [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]]. How much aviation [[Tylium|fuel]] has been expended in this operation?<br/>
:'''[[Saul Tigh| Tigh]]:''' Forty-three percent of reserves.<br/>
:'''[[Laura Roslin|Roslin]]:''' Almost half. That's unacceptable. An operation into the [[Red Moon|moon's]] atmosphere that has put one third of [[Lee Adama|your]] fighters out of action. That is also completely unacceptable.<br/>
:'''[[William Adama|Adama]]:''' Crap. Unacceptable. Whatever you feel about this, the recovery of one pilot is a military matter.
:'''[[Laura Roslin|Roslin]]:''' All right. It's military. Fine. And you're both officers. And you're both honorable men. And you're both perfectly aware you are putting the lives of over [[The Fleet (RDM)|45,000 people]] and the future of this civilization at risk for your personal feelings. Now, if it's the two of you, of all people, that can live with that, than the human race doesn't stand a chance. Clear your heads. (leaves room).<br/>
==Thanks for the offer and hospitality, Mr. Viper==

As you have told me, I have started to direct Deviants to BSP. I haven't just directed, I've downright recruited. I already have at least five incredibly gifted artists who have agreed to let us use their pictures. However, one of them asked if this is good for college credit. Is it? Please contact me ASAP.

== Galactica Squadrons ==

While re-watching Act of Contrition I noticed a few more Galactica squadrons shown on the walls in the pilots' ready room. In the beginning of the ep when Adama enters, he touches the "Lest We Forget" picture then passes a squadron crest labeled "Vampires". A minute or two later, when we see Sgt. Hadrian standing against the wall, we can clearly see 7th Squadron "Battleaxe" and 4th squadron "Demons" on the wall behind her. How could one go about adding this to the wiki?[[User:AnteaterFeeder|AnteaterFeeder]] 21:04, 20 January 2007 (CST)
:You can just create an article. <code>/wiki/Vampire squadron</code> -- then just create it. :-) Check out [[BW:MARK]] [[User:Shane|Shane]] ([[User_Talk:Shane|T]] - [[Special:Contributions/Shane|C]] - [[Special:Editcount/Shane|E]]) 21:13, 20 January 2007 (CST)
::I recall seeing some of these squadrons (and their associated patches) floating around in some of the signatures of folks at the scifi.com bulletin boards and elsewhere. There's not much info to be had, so rather than creating a tiny article for each of those, maybe we should consider [[Squadrons of Galactica]] or [[Squadrons of the Colonial Fleet]] that lists out all the squadron names and insignia that we can find, with possible redirects to that article from the individual unit names. Maybe we should bring this up at List of Pilots (RDM) or a similar article, to see if we can find some other hands? --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 21:25, 20 January 2007 (CST)
:::That sounds like a good idea-- the "Galactica Squadrons" page. I wouldn't know how to go about making that page. I'm still pretty new at this. I did however note that the Vampires are the 6th squadron as well as an 8th squadron (an 8 on a red spade), and a Viper Weapons School logo on the walls too. I will bring this up in the list of pilots page. {{unsigned|AnteaterFeeder}}
:::Agreed, one page for all squadrons is better. That can then incoporate the info found at [[Primus]] and [[Vigilantes]] now --[[User:Serenity|Serenity]] 05:49, 21 January 2007 (CST)
::::I tried to post this last night (blasted internet), but something like [[Squadrons of Battlestar Galactica]] works. I've been collecting screenshots of the logos when I could trying to identify them, but unfortunately, most are too blurry to read with NTSC DVDs. There is also some good shots of crests during the debate scene in LDYB part I. Finally, there is also a crest for a "Viper Weapons School", presumably the colonial equivelant of the [[w:United States Naval Fighter Weapons School|US Naval Fighter Weapons School]], aka TOPGUN. This could be mentioned in the Colonial fleet article. --[[User:Talos|Talos]] 06:40, 21 January 2007 (CST)
I'll go ahead and create the article, by moving the Primus and Vigilante stuff there. Then someone else can add the others. I'll leave the entire discussion here, you can point any interested parties to your talk page. I have some questions for you guys for starters. If you don't want some of this info public for some reason, then my email address is on my [http://heroeswiki.com/User:Admin Heroes Wiki user page]:
# You said you have two servers. Could you explain what pertinent services are running on each (i.e. are both webservers, or is one a db server and one a web server)? What are the memory and processor specs of each one?
# How many hits are you seeing during your peak day (this can include images, pages, etc.)?
# During your periods of high load, what metrics are you seeing? High load average, high cpu utilization, high IO utilization, or simply sluggish response time? If it's high cpu utilization can you pinpoint a single process or group of processes that are taking all the CPU time? Is this occurring on one server of both?
# Do you have any PHP caching extensions installed?
# Are you using any web-accelerators (Squid, etc.)?

--[[User:HeroesWiki|HeroesWiki]] 17:50, 5 December 2007 (CST)

: Hi Brian! Our server specs are [[BW:SERVER|located here]]. "Apollo" is our apache server, while "Athena" is our database server. Also, I posted a [http://blog.battlestarwiki.org/2007/11/26/preliminary-web-numbers/ blog entry on our numbers for 11/24], and I'll get you the following days numbers as soon as Webmin can generate them from the logfiles. As for the server lag, it happens on the "Apollo" server exclusively, and I highly supsect the culprit is apache.
: At one time, we did have Squid installed, but it caused problems with the blog and, since we had upgraded to newer servers at the time, we haven't used it since. -- [[User:Joe Beaudoin Jr.|Joe Beaudoin]] [[User talk:Joe Beaudoin Jr.|So say we all]] - [[Battlestar Wiki:Site support|Donate]] - [http://www.sanctuarywiki.org Sanctuary Wiki &mdash; ''New''] 23:10, 5 December 2007 (CST)
::We're not using Squid :O ? We should be. It also seems we don't have [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Memcached memcached], which we really should be running. --[[User:Catrope|Catrope]]([[User talk:Catrope|Talk to me]] or [[Special:Emailuser/Catrope|e-mail me]]) 08:34, 6 December 2007 (CST)
::: It doesn't sound like you need Squid too much at this point. If your read activitiy started causing problems then Squid would be a good idea. It looks like you're running into a similar problem that I did back in May with my old server (which is comparable to the web server you're using). I strongly recommend looking into [http://www.php.net/apc APC]. PHP is an interpreted language and when you have a lot of people hitting the site and editing articles then PHP can consume a lot of resources. APC will allow PHP to cache the MediaWiki PHP opcode. Before APC the server was very sluggish under load. During the season one finale the load average was between 13-26 constantly. By simply dropping APC in the average dropped down to about 1-2 and the site responded so well. Once you see how the site performs with APC then it'll be easier to determine if any changes in hardware are required. For reference Heroes Wiki is using dual quad-core 1.6ghz processors and never even breaks a sweat (though I purposely over-speced it to allow for significant growth). --[[User:HeroesWiki|HeroesWiki]] 08:34, 7 December 2007 (CST)
:::: Interesting. I wonder how that will work with the dynamic PHP of the forums and the blog. :o [[User:Shane|Shane]] ([[User_Talk:Shane|T]] - [[Special:Contributions/Shane|C]] - [[Special:Editcount/Shane|E]]) 13:27, 7 December 2007 (CST)
:::::Let's find out! Maybe try to work it into a Tuesday/maintenance day? It sounds like it may be just the ticket... --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 14:56, 7 December 2007 (CST)
::::: PHP itself is typically rather static while content it's used to display is very dynamic. Where Squid may cause issues with stale dynamic content, APC is only caching the php opcode itself and not the content that it's returning so it won't affect it. APC is also a generic PHP opcode cache so it's not tied to MediaWiki for instance. It will accelerate any heavily used PHP application. In fact if the application has hooks for APC built in it can further take advantage of it by using shared memory for holding global variables (MediaWiki does include specific hooks for APC to take advantage of this as well, but your biggest improvement will be the opcode caching alone). FYI I use apc.shm_size=512 to allocate 512MB of RAM for the opcode cache. If you try out APC you may need to tweak this value to reach the right balance of performance vs memory utilization for your particular sites. --[[User:HeroesWiki|HeroesWiki]] 15:01, 7 December 2007 (CST)

Did you get a chance to try out APC yet? If so, has it been helping? --[[User:HeroesWiki|HeroesWiki]] 13:35, 19 December 2007 (CST)
:Not yet. I been busy with work. I will have to find a "day" that I can work on it. [[User:Shane|Shane]] ([[User_Talk:Shane|T]] - [[Special:Contributions/Shane|C]] - [[Special:Editcount/Shane|E]]) 13:39, 19 December 2007 (CST)
::Still a nogo? I was hoping we'd be able to get this up and tested prior to the march premiere. --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 13:16, 15 January 2008 (CST)
:::We looked into it and couldn't see a preformence "increase" with our setup of one instance of the mediawiki files for all the wikis. [[User:Shane|Shane]] ([[User_Talk:Shane|T]] - [[Special:Contributions/Shane|C]] - [[Special:Editcount/Shane|E]]) 13:20, 15 January 2008 (CST)
:::1.12 should also improve performance, as 1.11 auto-purges all pages containing magic words (like <nowiki>{{CURRENTTIME}}</nowiki> or <nowiki>{{PAGENAME}}</nowiki>) every hour. 1.12 only autopurges pages containing magic words whose output actually changes, so pages containing <nowiki>{{PAGENAME}}</nowiki> or <nowiki>{{SUBPAGENAME}}</nowiki> (we have quite a few of both in the Battlestar Wiki namespace) don't get autopurged anymore. I don't know when 1.12 will be released, but I hope it'll happen before April 4 (I'll ask). --[[User:Catrope|Catrope]]([[User talk:Catrope|Talk to me]] or [[Special:Emailuser/Catrope|e-mail me]]) 13:22, 15 January 2008 (CST)
::::We (/you... I don't REALLY do much of anything) didn't even try it? Would it it pay off if we had a separate instance for the EN site vs the rest of the sites? I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I still wouldn't consider us "there" yet on performance. I'm glad we actually stayed up through the "Razor" premiere, but we still had to lock down pages and performance was rather draggy. Ideally we'd be able to eliminate both of those issues, though it may just be a matter of not enough horsepower (and we really can't justify much more price wise for the servers). --[[User:Steelviper|Steelviper]] 13:48, 15 January 2008 (CST)
Hello, Battlestar Wikiteers! I am Forestbender. I have been using this awesome site for gods know how long and the idea came to me in my sleep to join (Okay, not in my sleep. It sounds awesome, though).

I know what your thinking. "Why isn't his name something to do with Battlestar, like coloneltigh123 or motherfrakker or something along that line?" Well, it's my DeviantArt name and I have been trying to synchronize my user names. Anyway, back to DeviantArt. I have been drawing a series I call Colonial Ship Files, where I give the dimensions, colony of origin, information, stuff like that. I don't claim to be a good artist, but I try my very best.

Anywho, thanks for allowing me into this wonderful site.
