The coastal landmark named '''Caprica Beach''' has never been seen, but is mentioned by [[Saul Tigh]] in the episode "[[Bastille Day]]". Tigh sees photos of frozen water deposits on a moon and promptly says, "Not exactly Caprica Beach down there, is it?"

The beach's specific location on [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] is unknown. While [[Caprica City]] is shown to have a waterfront ([[Miniseries]], opening credits), the portion seen appears to have a [[w:seawall|seawall]] rather than a beach.

Caprica Beach was presumably a picturesque or pleasant locale, since Tigh describes the barren moon as its antithesis.

Over a year later, the Fleet discovers a derelict [[Basestar (RDM)|Cylon baseship]] near the [[Lion's Head Nebula]], a celestial marker revealed by [[Felix Gaeta]] to Admiral Adama and President Roslin ([[Torn]]). The information is derived from [[Gaius Baltar]]'s research on the path to Earth. The derelict basestar finds an [[Lion's Head beacon|ancient beacon]] left by the Thirteenth Tribe. While a Colonial boarding party finds the probe, it also learns that the [[Humanoid Cylon]]s aboard the basestar are dead or dying, suggesting a deadly pathogen was released by the beacon. In their haste to leave and for the safety of the Fleet, the beacon is abandoned on the basestar, where it is destroyed when the basestar self-destructs ([[A Measure of Salvation]]).

After the Fleet must gather needed foodstuffs from the [[algae planet]], believed previously uninhabited by humans, [[Galen Tyrol]] senses and finds the [[Temple of Five]], an ancient [[temple]] built by the Thirteenth Tribe, as told in the [[Sacred Scrolls]], apparently built during a stopover on this world. Believed to be hidden inside the Temple of Five is the [[Eye of Jupiter]], an artifact that may provide more clues to the location of Earth. However, a Cylon force arrives with the same intentions on the Eye, leading to a standoff between Adama and the [[basestar command]] ([[The Eye of Jupiter]]). The Eye is later revealed to be the algae planet's own star as it began to nova, taking the form of the circular starburst patterns throughout the Temple of Five. While the Colonials are not privy to the special holograph feature of the Temple that the Cylons witness in the early moments of the nova, the Colonials are later are able to discern the information of the new nova as a waypoint to the next marker, a nebula in the [[Ionian system]] ([[Rapture]]).

When the Fleet arrives at the nebula, it is intercepted by four basestars. Unable to escape due to a mysterious, crippling Fleet-wide power outage, ''Galactica'' is forced to prepare for attack and launches Vipers and Raptors. [[Lee Adama|Apollo]] breaks off from the attack to track an "Unknown" contact on [[DRADIS]]. The contact is Captain [[Kara Thrace|Kara "Starbuck" Thrace]], miraculously [[Maelstrom|returned from the dead]] with news that she has been to Earth, knows its location and how to take the Fleet there.

The episode "[[Crossroads, Part II]]" concludes with a sweeping zoom from the Fleet, the Cylons, the Ionian nebula and to an arm of the [[W:Milky Way|Milky Way]] and to a zoom in to Earth itself, confirming that Earth is an actual location (from the perspective of the viewers), showing Earth's North American continent.<ref>The depiction of Earth includes a geographically accurate landmark: the Balize lobe of the [[w:Mississippi River Delta|Mississippi river delta]], a feature formed between the 16th and 20th Centuries of the real-world Earth. The '''War College''' was a [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|Colonial Fleet]] military educational institute that likely taught its officers many tactics and other subjects pertaining to military logistics in battle.

[[Lee Adama]] knows of a technique from War College using electric pulse generators to create an [[EMP]] burst as a means of fending off the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] and incapacitating any warheads. Using generators on ''[[Colonial One]]'' that were offloaded from ''[[Galactica]]'' (presumably as part of her decommissioning), Lee Adama successfully uses this method to disable two nuclear missiles that the Cylons fire at ''Colonial One''.

The pulse mimics a nuclear detonation and blinds the Cylon [[DRADIS]], making the attack appear successful. According to Adama after the ruse, in computer simulations in War College, the Cylons never fell for the trick ([[Miniseries]]).

[[Kara Thrace]] did not attend War College, according to [[Saul Tigh]]'s comments ([[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]).

Cylon Centurion

The basic footsoldier of Cylon ground forces, the '''Cylon Centurion''' appears to represent a significant (if not radical) evolution of the [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005]].

Unlike the Model 0005, a single Centurion is more than enough to terrorize a squad of Colonial fighters. They have long, talon-like fingers with multiple joints and a double-barreled automatic projectile weapon mounted on the end of each arm. These make counterattacks by Colonials very difficult since they are effectively [[W:machine gun|machine guns]]. In addition, their fingers can be used as bladed close-combat weapons. They are also capable of fielding larger, more powerful weapons not built into them, such as mortars and missile batteries.

These newer, fiercer Centurions are also more agile than their predecessors, capable of extremely fast [[w:bipedal locomotion|bipedal locomotion]] and jumping over obstacles.

It is unknown whether the Centurions can "speak". It is probable that they communicate with each other via wireless network, making verbal speech unnecessary. They can hear and respond to verbal commands from their leaders, the [[humanoid Cylon]]s ([[Hero]]).

Some versions of the Centurion wield markedly improved armor. For instance, a small number of Centurions wreak havoc after boarding ''[[Galactica]]'' and are destroyed only by explosive rounds ([[Valley of Darkness]]).

The Centurions that [[Helo]] encounters on [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] react more slowly, act less intelligently, and are more easily destroyed by small-arms fire. This may be due to the Cylons' reproduction plans for Helo and [[Sharon Agathon|Caprica-Valerii]]; killing him would render their experiment worthless.

Centurions seen on [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]], on the other hand, display an increased group intelligence, working together to construct an anti-aircraft battery out of parts of their [[Heavy Raider]] ([[Fragged]]).

On [[New Caprica]], the Centurions serve a variety of functions, such as guards, soldiers and executioners.

While primarily mechanical, as opposed to the biomechanical [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Raiders]] and [[Basestar (RDM)|basestars]], it has been hinted by [[Humanoid Cylon|humanoid]]s during a discussion of the viral [[Lymphocytic encephalitis|infection]] that the Centurions have at least some biomechanical components. Their adverse reaction to the virus, however, could also be a result of the wireless link to the [[Hybrid]], as a [[Number Three]] states that the Centurions started shutting down as soon as the ship's Hybrid became infected ([[Torn]]).

The Centurions are not sentient by design, making them rely solely on programming. This was done (according to [[Sharon Agathon]]) to prevent another rebellion similar to the one the [[Cylon War|original Cylons orchestrated against the Colonies]]. The Centurions are programmed not to harm any of the "[[Significant Seven]]" humanoid Cylon models (except by [[Hero|explicit order]]) and cannot distinguish one copy from another ([[Precipice]]). Whether the Centurions know the identities of the [[Final Five]] is unknown.

"Bullethead", "clanker" and "chrome job" are common Colonial nicknames for these advanced and deadly Cylon constructs ("[[Downloaded]]", "[[Rapture]]", [[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance]]).

===Cinematic Notes===
The creators of the Re-imagined Series decided that using actors in an elaborate Cylon robot outfit (as was done in the Original Series) would detract from the realism of the series. They decided to make fully computer-generated Cylon Centurions for the new series.

Inaugural director [[Michael Rymer]] wanted the new Cylon warrior to blend in and avoid detracting from the live actor's performances. However, the new designs were eye-catching, and the new robot became a popular addition to many scenes. The virtual Cylons are designed with full articulation in the hands and joints that gives a realistic appearance to the viewer. Initially the new warrior was built with more human movement, such as swaggering. However, the movements did not fit the robotic attitude that the writers wanted to convey and were later discarded.

Actors interact with a life-size cardboard stand-in when filming a scene that will later have virtual Cylon warriors inserted. Some times production assistants stand in for the CG Centurions in more complex shots. As revealed in a [http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/bts/videoblog/ Video Blog] entry on [[Sci Fi Channel]]'s ''Galactica'' website, stand-ins portraying Centurions are made to wear thick black vests with the word '''CENTURION''' printed across them. Much like the cardboard stand-ins the "actors" are then digitally painted out of the shot and replaced with virtual Centurions.

Every soldier in the [[Colonial Fleet]] wears hexagonally shaped '''"dog tags"''' around their neck.

These identification tags presumably contain the rank, name, and serial number of the soldier, as well as their ship or troop assignment.

In the event of the soldier's death, dog tags on the soldier's body aid in identification, particularly if damage to the soldier's body renders the body difficult or impossible to identify. Soldiers retrieve the tags from a body if possible during combat if unable to return with the dead soldier's body, as did Chief [[Galen Tyrol]] for soldiers [[Tarn]] and [[Crashdown]], for return to a superior officer later ([[Fragged]]).

In real life militaries, personell often wear two sets of dog tags. In the event they are killed, one set is collected for casualty reporting while the other is left with the body.

Captain [[Aaron Kelly|Kelly]] was the somber recipient of nearly 85 dog tags from dead ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' crewmen trapped in the port [[flight pod]] when it was vented to space by order of Colonel [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] to prevent a catastrophic ship explosion ([[Miniseries]]).

*Another flashback, with Thrace and Lee Adama, who are both drunk. Dualla is aboard ship, and Thrace has literally drank Anders, now unconscious, under a nearby table. The two former [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] pilots exchange intimate words and soon find themselves outside of camp, getting very intimate.
*Lee Adama and Kara Thrace have a gratifying sexual session. Afterwards, Adama suggests that they each break up with their respective lovers to become a couple themselves. Adama gets up and happily yells into the nighttime sky that he loves Thrace. Adama urges the giggling and embarrassed Thrace to return the gesture into the sky and that he will continue to yell until she does. Thrace finally does yell that "Kara Thrace loves Lee Adama." They then return to lovemaking.
*Thrace awakens, confused, and leaves the area, leaving Adama to awaken some time later, alone.

*The enthusiasm for boxing has been extinguished by Adama's speech, and Tigh calls it off and dismisses the group. But Thrace challenges Lee Adama to a match by name-calling and an exchange of blows.

*On New Caprica, Adama and Roslin are as relaxed with each other as the two leaders could be, not necessarily chasing romance, but allowing themselves a moment of mutual relaxation, physical closeness, and contemplation. This level of open affection may have seemed more permissible due to Roslin's status as a private citizen during the Baltar administration, although the two appear to remain good friends even in the present.
*Adama made a similar declaration about tightening military discipline when ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' arrived, and immediately thereafter almost started a civil war in an effort to rescue Tyrol and Helo. The inability to maintain emotional detachment from his subordinates has repeatedly proven to be a strong personality trait of his, and it is questionable whether he will be able to manage detachment this time, or for very long. This trait can also be seen in the episode "[[You Can't Go Home Again]]" where he risks the whole fleet to save just one pilot - Starbuck.
**Also present in his speech was the continued conviction that that the disasters that have befallen humanity can be placed on his shoulders. This sense of guilt seems likely to keep haunting him for the foreseeable future.
*This is the first episode thus far to make New Caprica look like a pleasant place to live. Every other episode on-planet has shown it to be dreary and spartan.
**It is possible that this dramatic change on-screen merely depicts a seasonal change in terms of weather patterns.
*Ships are seen flying in heavy power generation equipment of some kind, suggesting that this and many other colonization resources that were too large to retrieve during the [[Second Exodus]] were later abandoned on New Caprica, foretelling an eventual supply shortage.
*Kara Thrace does not feel obligated to follow rules of engagement when she starts to lose. During her fight with Lee Adama, once it becomes obvious that she stands a good chance of losing she quickly begins using armlocks and kicks to gain an advantage. Once knocked to the ground, she sweeps Adama's legs out from under him. Adama responds by using a grappling hold on Thrace, placing her into a headlock. This is reminiscent of Starbuck's expressed attitude in "[[Scar]]" that war is not bound by ideas of honor or fair play.
**It should be clarified that Thrace and Adama's fight takes place after the boxing tournament is officially closed. No referee is in the ring, and no bells are rung to signify rounds, making their bout something of an unregulated fight in any case.

As the show progressed into season two, Starbuck's hair grew longer and covered the tattoo, rendering it a moot point.

The '''Armistice Station Officer''' is known as Colonel Wakefield according to the [[Battlestar Galactica (2005 Novel)|novelization of the Miniseries]]. He is also the father of [[Boxey (RDM)|Boxey]]. He was assigned to the [[Armistice Station]], where he would represent the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]] to attempt their continuation of diplomatic relations between the exiled [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] and humans.

Col. Wakefield is the first member of the Colonial Fleet to see the Cylons in over 40 years when two upgraded [[Cylon Centurion]]s and someone that appears to be a strikingly beautiful human female arrive at the station. This female is actually [[Number Six]], a [[Cylon agent]]. While the Centurions look on menacingly, Six grabs the Armistice Officer and forcibly kisses him. He dies when a Cylon [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]] destroys the station with missiles, signaling the start of the [[Cylon Attack]] ([[Miniseries]]).

Col. Wakefield was apparently assigned Armistice Station duty by [[Fleet Headquarters]], who sends a general message on the status of all [[FTL]]-capable ships that were able to jump to the Armistice Station to aid the Courier officer when he fails to report or return to Headquarters. Commander [[William Adama|Adama]], on receiving this message from Headquarters from ''[[Galactica]]'s'' Watch Officer, Lieutenant [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]], indicates that the battlestar's scheduled decommissioning ceremonies later that day would make them a bit too busy to help ([[Miniseries]]).

== Notes ==
The actor portraying Col. Wakefield, Ryan Robbins, underwent a significant transformation through makeup and prosthetics in order to appear older than he really was. The original script of the Mini-Series called for the opening to show a young Col. Wakefield repeatedly visiting Armistice Station over the 40 years between the end of the Cylon War and the Attack on the Colonies and progressively aging with each visit. Multiple scenes with Robbins in various age-enhanced makeup were filmed, however all of them except the final scene where [[Number Six|Six]] makes her entrance were cut.

While flying a supply patrol, Crashdown and Sharon Valerii discover a bountiful planet that can support human life. Indeed, it might be Kobol, the legendary "home of the gods." The discovery prompts Commander Adama to send a ground team to investigate; it also gives new life to President Roslin's belief that she is a tool of destiny and that this discovery, like her rapidly spreading cancer, is part of an ancient prophecy.

However, things are not well on the Galactica. Gaius Baltar, the new vice-president, has a one-night stand with Kara Thrace and finds himself at odds with both Lee Adama and a deeply jealous Number Six.

== Analysis ==

The finest episode of "Battlestar Galactica" to air so far; so finely tuned that it barely misses a beat. This is also the first episode where music is used to its most evocative effect, further lifting the story into the realm of outstanding drama.

From the outset the audience knows it is in for something special; the re-cap of previous episodes so tightly defined, it for once deals with a single strand of the story to date: the Cylons, only opening at the end to reveal the motivating thrust to this episode: the finding of Kobol.

This leads into one of the most beautifully-constructed teasers witnessed in television drama. Evocative, moving – and entirely minimalist in terms of dialogue -, it really is proof that frequently, less really is more. Why waste time with words, when actions and expressions speak so much louder, and music can imbue the underlying emotions.

"Battlestar Galactica" has not always fared well where music is concerned. The opening theme is one that is either liked or disliked, with little middle ground; incidental music in previous episodes has been sporadic in its ability to act – as music should – as the aural scenery that helps bring the drama to life. Sometimes it has worked, in others – notably the otherwise brilliant The Hand of God – it has been so out of keeping with the atmosphere of the show, it has detracted from the overall enjoyment of the episode.

Here, however, the music is perfect – and it is interesting to see that in immersing the audience into the subtleties of the teaser, the episode uses a “classical” approach through the use of an orchestral sound, rather than the more tribal beats common to Battlestar Galactica.

And the result is remarkable. Utilising the string section in the foreground – violins and cellos slowly building a theme to which is added further instruments as new revelations are made concerning the moods and responses of the various characters; providing an aural tapestry through which everything is linked; the bringing together and the falling apart of relationships; the expression of needs, and emotions.

The music perfectly underpins one of the main thrusts of the teaser: a demonstration of how alive the humans are; how driven by passion and instinct. It was in “Flesh and Bone” that Doral stated his envy of a human’s ability to experience such extremes. Now we’re cleverly shown everything the Cylon’s aspire to experience themselves: passions unbounded by the need for constraint, given form in both the boxing and in Starbuck’s fantasy view of her coupling with Baltar (“Lee”).

Turning to the boxing, it is evident more is going on here than a simple father-and-son sparring match. Aggression and frustration are being dealt with here – as witnessed by the clear satisfaction Lee gets from striking and hurting his father. When he lands his first big punch, he asks, “Are you OK?” not out of concern, but out of satisfaction; it could have so easily been followed by, “Because there’s plenty more where that came from.” Even so, his frustrations are released guardedly, whereas his father’s response is not. He allows himself to enjoy striking his son, giving his instincts the freedom of expression they need.

Another fascinating element of the teaser is the manner in which Boomer’s situation is offset with Valerii on Caprica. As Boomer takes her handgun and prepares to shoot herself, Valerii finds Helo, and tells him to shoot her. Both of them have reached the same point in their existence, both of them because of their entirely human responses – in Boomer’s case fear and in Valerii’s the anguish of lost love. Fear and love – perhaps the strongest of emotions we can experience; and both have driven these instances of Valerii to despair. In doing so, these emotions reveal both the “flaw” within the Valerii model that makes it “weak” in Six’s eyes while also demonstrating the Cylon experiment has succeeded – perhaps in a way the Cylons could not have conceived.

The rest of the episode is no less rich. Roslin’s acceptance of her role and the reality of the scriptures, though sudden, is entirely in keeping with all that has been shown in recent episodes. The issues arising from this are both immediate and long-term. She has already subverted the strike against the Cylon basestar – putting the entire fleet at risk, as well as the lives of some 8-10 members of the Galactica’s crew stranded on Kobol. Whether Adama be willing to let this go if/when Starbuck returns with the Arrow of Apollo remains to be seen. However, as Billy points out, if she continues to act upon what he sees (and no doubt others will believe) as “drug-induced hallucinations”, then the stability of the entire government within the fleet will be put at risk – possibly well before the scheduled elections.

In a similar way, the flare-up of jealousy and anger between Lee and Kara is entirely in keeping with recent events: their potential attraction has been seen in brief flashes throughout, while their frustrations with one another have been witnessed through the likes of “Act of Contrition” and most recently, “The Hand of God”. Beyond that, they have a history together that bonds them from their time at flight school, where Zak Adama initially brought them together as friends through to Lee’s arrival aboard the Galactica. Thus, Lee’s very evident attraction to her during the Colonial Day party, is fully in keeping with what we have seen: but she ends up bedding Baltar.

While this latter point is somewhat surprising given the degree of open contempt she has shown him of late (“Bastille Day”, “Litmus”, “Secrets and Lies”), given the availability of drinks aboard the “Cloud Nine” their coupling could be put down to the effects of alcohol. Certainly, Baltar has never hidden his lust for Starbuck, and it is hard to see him missing the opportunity to take advantage of his new-found position as Vice President and the fact that Six has given her permission to sleep with whoever he likes.

Why did she do it? Probably because, despite his attraction to her, and her to him (hence her orgasm-induced cry) Kara sees Lee as unobtainable – possibly because of that same history they share. So in her inebriation, she opts for the closest available target – Baltar. Whatever the reason, her actions are more than enough to both become the perfect catalyst for Baltar’s conflicts with Six and his apparent desire to confound her (as evidenced through his conversation with Boomer), and to act as a catalyst to bring Lee’s jealousy to the surface.

Baltar’s time with Boomer is interesting. Taking heed of Six’s warning concerning the danger the Galactica while face and acting in defiance of her mocking comments in the bunkroom itself, he acts in defiance of her, gently bringing Boomer to the point where she can carry out the attempt on her own life. Through it all, Six is obviously confused by his actions. That Boomer’s Cylon persona more than likely stopped her killing herself, the fact that Baltar was willing to act as he does has a major impact on Six – hence her more gentle reminder to him when the survey of Kobol is being planned.

The episode also can’t be faulted for the standard of performance turned in. Across the board all of the ensemble cast put in sterling performances that serve to ratchet-up “Kobol’s Last Gleaming Part 1” so it stands head and shoulders above what has already been a remarkable first season run. Thus, to single any individual member of the cast out at the expense of the others would be somewhat unfair; everyone appearing on-screen – be it for 40 minutes or 4 – makes their character utterly engrossing to watch.

The final elements that round-out this episode are the writing and direction. With this story, Eick and Moore demonstrate they have a clear vision for where the series will hopefully go (allowing for future renewals), the territories it may cover and the ways in which the various threads can be intertwined and then neatly separated again to build a complex picture of humanity and circumstance. Furthermore, in ramping-up the Roslin arc, they are simultaneously bringing some of the threads that have formed the fabric of this first season to an end, while opening new potential avenues for exploration in future seasons.

Having veteran BSG director Rymer (Mini-Series, “33”) helm this episode is also a smart move. In both the mini and “33”, Rymer firmly established the look and feel of the finished Galactica product, and here he demonstrates his finesse with the docu-drama style the production has striven for; using the technique to draw the audience into the drama almost as if they are themselves participants.

Simon tries to casually persuade her into bearing children but is unsuccessful. When his diplomatic efforts fail, he surgically explores her ovaries without Thrace's permission, either partially removing an ovary or its eggs. On orders from a copy of [[Number Six]], Simon arranges a time to surgically remove Thrace's ovaries.

Specialist '''Cally''' is a deckhand aboard [[Galactica type battlestar|battlestar]] ''[[Galactica]]'' assigned to Chief [[Galen Tyrol]]. At the time of the [[Cylon Attack]] on the [[Twelve Colonies]], she is attached to Deck Crew 5 and responsible for [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] and [[Raptor]] maintenance ([[Mini-Series]]). She is particularly adept at finding ways around the lack of replacement parts aboard ''Galactica'', seen in her jury-rigging of several Vipers and Raptors.

Cally only joined the [[Colonial Fleet]] as a means to pay for dental school ([[Fragged]]).

According to [[Ronald D. Moore]]'s blog, Cally's term of required service ended at the same time that ''Galactica'' was to be decomissioned, and she was about to be honorably discharged and return to civilian life when the Cylons attacked, ending those plans.

==Biography==
Cally is part of a ''Galactica'' team sent to the ''[[Astral Queen]]'' in order to enlist the help of convicts in ice mining operations ([[Bastille Day]]). Taken captive by the escaped immates, she is nearly raped by prisoner [[Mason]], who shoots her after she bites his ear off in defense. Cally is returned to ''Galactica's'' [[sickbay]] for treatment, where she was given the nickname "Specialist Lazy" in jest by her comrades. It appears that Cally is not fond of FTL Jumps ([[Miniseries]]), possibly because she suffers nausea during them ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]).

Less than a week later, Cally had returned to duty aboard ''Galactica''. When it was revealed that Cylons can [[Cylon agent|take human form]] she argued against [[Jammer]]'s paranoia-mongering, pointing out that that is exactly what the Cylons want. Along with the rest of the deck crew, she then lied under oath to protect the Chief ([[Litmus]]). For the next several weeks, Cally would assist Chief Tyrol in examining the [[You Can't Go Home Again|captured]] Cylon Raider brought aboard ''Galactica'' ([[Six Degrees of Separation]]). Cally later celebrates with the rest of the crew on the flight deck when the Viper squadrons return from their sucessful mission against a Cylon refinery base, to secure more [[tylium]] supplies for the fleet ([[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]).

Cally is later selected to join a Raptor Scout team bound for [[Kobol]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]). Her Raptor is attacked upon emerging from a [[FTL|Jump]], resulting in a crash on Kobol. As one of the few that was relatively unhurt, she is charged with caring for the injured crewmen. Cally later returns to the crash site with Chief Tyrol and [[Tarn]], and barely makes it back alive with a medkit for [[Socinus]] ([[Scattered]]). However, it is too late to save Socinus and Tyrol administers [[Morpha]] to aid him in a painless death, which greatly saddens Cally ([[Valley of Darkness]]).

Cally seems as prone to anger after a terrible event as Chief Tyrol, but unlike him, she tends to take direct action as a result, rather than becoming immobile or overly irrational.

While stranded, [[Crashdown]] attempts to lead a hopeless attack on a [[Cylon Centurion]] anti-aircraft emplacement, and gives Cally an assuredly suicidal order to draw the Centurions' fire. Cally is so terrified at carrying out the impossible order that she freezes in place instead of advancing. Losing control and showing his imcompetence in leadership, Crashdown points a gun at Cally's head and threatens to shoot her if she does not obey. Just before Crashdown counts to three to shoot Cally, Dr. [[Gaius Baltar]] shoots him in the back, killing Crashdown instantly. The group fights a running battle with the Centurions to reach and destroy the [[Dradis]] dish supporting the Cylon gun emplacement. [[Seelix]] is shot, but Cally saves her life by carrying her further ahead. A rescue team of Raptors arrives, and Cally returns to ''Galactica'' with the survivors ([[Fragged]]).

Cally's anger transfers to Baltar when Tyrol was arrested and accused of being a Cylon himself due to his past relationship with [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]], and threatens to reveal Baltar's part in Crashdown's death if Baltar does not act to clear Tyrol's name. Cally later shoots and kills the ''Galactica'' copy of Sharon Valerii because she is outraged that Chief Tyrol was thrown in the brig and was wrongly suspected of being a Cylon because of her ([[Resistance]]). Cally is imprisoned in the [[brig]]. At Tyrol's request, Commander Adama gives Cally a lenient sentence of 30 days for "discharging a firearm without permission" ([[The Farm]]).

After her 30 day sentence is finished, Cally is released from the brig, and a welcome back party is thrown for her on the [[Hangar Deck|hangar deck]] by the deck crew. Chief Tyrol was still upset with her for killing Boomer, though Cally is grateful to the Chief for putting in a good word for her with Adama. She aids Tyrol in the construction of the [[Blackbird]]. By the time they finish construction, he reconciles with her ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]).

Along with the rest of the crew, Cally is jubilant when the long-thought destroyed battlestar ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' finds ''Galactica''. However, she is disgusted when several drunken ''Pegasus'' crewmen brag about repeatedly raping the captured [[Cylon agent]] known as [[Gina]], a reaction probably made stronger for her because she herself survived an [[Bastille Day|attempted rape]]. Chief Tyrol and Lt. [[Karl Agathon|Karl "Helo" Agathon]] are arrested and taken aboard ''Pegasus'' for causing the accidental death of ''Pegasus' '' Lt. [[Alistair Thorne]] after they stop him from raping the Caprica copy of Sharon Valerii. Cally pleads with [[William Adama|Commander Adama]] to do something about the incident when Adama learns that Admiral [[Helena Cain]] intends to execute Tyrol and Helo. Adama dismisses her with quiet purpose ("You have work to do") as he prepares the battlestar to engage the militant admiral's command with his older Viper squadrons ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

The standoff with ''Pegasus'' was averted when it was decided that attacking the large Cylon fleet they had detected should be their first priority, and Tyrol and Helo's executions were put on hold. Cally assisted the newly assigned Pegasus deck chief, [[Peter Laird]], in readying all of ''Galactica's'' Vipers for the [[Battle of the Resurrection Ship|upcoming battle]]. After Commander Adama came down to the hangar deck to confer with Laird on the status of the preparations, Adama took Cally aside and questioned her about Laird. Cally revealed to Adama that Laird was a civilian, and that it was rumored that ''Pegasus'' had its own civilian refugee fleet in the past, but something happened to them. This prompted Adama to send Col. Tigh to Col. [[Jack Fisk]] to pump him for information about the civilian fleet that Admiral Cain had abandoned, sealing Adama's decision to try to eliminate Cain as a threat to his own civilian fleet ([[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]). Cally and Chief Tyrol would later discover that the Vipers' ammunition had been sabotaged by the Cylon-sympathizer [[Demand Peace]] movement ([[Epiphanies]]). Later, the two uncover a storage crate with a [[Rya Kibby|stowaway]] inside ([[The Captain's Hand]]).

Two weeks before the presidential election, Cally found Tyrol sleeping tumultuously on the hangar deck while it was empty. She woke him up while he was in the midst of a suicidal nightmare, and the delusional Tyrol proceeded to give Cally a savage beating, quickly pummeling her into a bloody mess and knocking her unconscious. After a moment Tyrol came to his senses, was shocked by what he had just done, and ran Cally to sickbay carrying her in his arms ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]).

Cally had to have her jaw wired shut, but she forgave Tyrol and said she always cared about him. Interestingly, her feelings for Tyrol were apparently known to [[Cavil]] prior to his exposure as a Cylon agent. ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]).

A year later on [[New Caprica]], Cally is presumed married to Tyrol and pregnant with his child ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

The exact technical details are not revealed in the series, in keeping with its philosophy of avoiding [[technobabble]]. Probably a Class-D Nuclear Warhead is an implosion-type fission bomb. Given the small size of the device that Baltar delivered to Gina, the fissile core is extremely small, and the the apparatus which compresses it to supercritical mass is equally compact. The yield of a class D is difficult, if not impossible, to calculate from information seen in the series. It should be noted that many nuclear bombs, including the American version of a "suitcase nuke", can be configured for different yields easily ("dial-a-yield").

One explanation for its small size is that a nucleide other than plutonium is used in the fission primary. Aside from the rather unscientific introduction of a "new element", the most logical candidate would be Californium. This synthetic element exists only in miligram quantities in the real world, but the Colonies might produce much more using advanced -- but plausible -- technology. Cf-251 has a critical mass of around two kilograms, and this could be reduced even further using currently existing techniques. The Class D warhead is advanced technology, but it is in no way physically impossible, nor must it rely on scientific principles unknown in the present day.

However Probably a Class-D Nuclear Warhead is a fission-fusion bomb with a very high efficiency of matter to energy conversion. Given the small size of the device that Baltar delivered to Gina, the fissile core is extremely small, and the the apparatus which compresses it to supercritical mass is equally compact. By itself the fission primary has a very low yield for a nuclear weapon; possibly only into the range of very large conventional bombs. In a fully assembled Class D the fission primary is used to ignite a fusion reaction which creates the vast majority of the yield.

I really don't know what level of speculation is appropriate here. I wouldn't have gone off on this nuclear bomb design digression, except that the previous revision was really confusing and seemed to imply that the Class D was implausible, which I don't think it is. Battlestars are jumping around at faster-than-light speeds, is it such a stretch to believe the colonies have advanced nuclear reactors to produce exotic isotopes, and really powerful explosives to compress them to supercritical mass?

I don't know, maybe it would be best to just cut this article down to "here's what the class D was in the series. Gee whiz, it must use some kind of advanced technology."
