Since the draft's not finished, I'll go by what I've see so far:

Basically, I am in full agreement that Battlestar Wiki should avoid fanwanking -- which is just another manifestation of [[w:fanon|fanon]]'s ugly head anyway and Battlestar Wiki doesn't support fan fiction in its primary articles, other than our [[fan fiction|single entry pertaining to it]]. My primary concern is that while we should extend an assumption of good faith on the part of the cast and crew (which makes sense, since we do the same thing here to contributors), it is in '''how''' we would practice this. Does this mean ignoring errors that the crew create? If so, what kind of errors? Would the error be "small"? If so, how "small" ''is'' "small"? : Excellent point, and it is this "how" I was trying to start a discussion on the Continuity Error Talk page. What is the current how? One way maybe to define small and huge relative to each other. The timeline errors might be considered huge (the hugest) and the others ordered relative to each other. Or there could be a voting mechanism. Or people could be encouraged to offer other explainations (being aware of fanwanking). Or maybe there is some amount of "suspension of belief" that we can agree on. The goal of this policy is to provide guidelines of what constitues [[Continuity_errors_%28RDM%29]] vs Produciton errors or [[Continuity_errors_%28RDM%29#Danglers|Dangling plot lines]] in Battlestar Galactica while [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia:Assume good faith|assuming good faith]] on the part of the writers, without resorting to [[Wikipedia:Fanwank|fanwanking]]. This policy would be linked to from the various (small number of) error pages.

[[Wikipedia: Continuity_%28fiction%29#Continuity_errors |Continuity Errors]] requires some understanding of the continuity goals of the show, RDM wrote the BSG Bible and has mentioned them in podcasts. There are also some wiki pages: [[Naturalistic_science_fiction]], [[Life_Forms_of_the_Twelve_Colonies]].

When deriving continuity errors based on character dialog there are two extremes (with plenty of gray area between) of believing that characters have perfect knowledge and never lie or characters do not have perfect knowledge and are capable of lieing adding to this is the personality of the character. Baltar's Cylon Detector is a good example of where an individual audience members stance can effect how they interpret possible continuity errors. When Baltar tests Boomer, the test only takes a few minutes however in Tigh me up Tigh me down (add link) it is stated that one test takes 11 hours. Some people see this as an obvious continuity (writer) error. Other possible explainations have been offered such as; given Baltar's reaction to Boomers positive test, he realizes it may be a bad idea to have a possible Cylon present when the results come in. Or it could be that 11 hours is the maximium amount of time the test takes and he got "lucky" with Boomer's test, or he could be "sandbagging" so as to have time to pursue other things (such as woman, the vice presidency, etc.) or given his Cylon colaboration he could be stalling.

==Suspending Disbelief==

Characters are not perfect, they make mistakes, mishear things, or in some cases may outright lie. Billy could have misheard one thousand five hundered prisoners or there could have been static on the wireless "I have *snap, crackle, pop* five hundred prisoners". Baltar could be lieing about how long it takes for the Cylon detection to work, why not, he lied about the results and then covered up his lie when called on it after Sharon shot Adama. Characters are not perfect, they make mistakes, mishear things, or in some cases may outright lie. Billy could have misheard one thousand five hundered prisoners or there could have been static on the wireless "I have *snap, crackle, pop* five hundred prisoners". Baltar could be lieing about how long it takes for the Cylon detection to work, why not, he lied about the results and then covered up his lie when called on it after Sharon shot Adama. I'm confused about the last paragraph of the Contract Disputes... section. We say "several weeks" later from August, the tapes were handed over. (I assume that means at least 3 weeks.) The WGA/NBCU dispute became public on Aug. 12 and the NLRB greviance was filed on the 18th. It doesn't seem that three weeks have passed. Can that be clarified? Also, what changed or broke the stalemate? There has been nothing announced in Variety or elsewhere, at least in regard to The Office. '''Obviously''' there is more than a little frustration over not being able to connect outside the US. I'm not sure about the UK and other countries, but I do know that Canada's Space Channel has bought the show to broadcast on pretty much the same dates as in the US. This makes the fact that we Canadians(and anyone else who is going to see the show boadcast legally on television on October outside the US) would really benefit from being able to access the webisodes...we will watch the premier on Space, just like everyone else, except we are forced to result to illegal means to see the webisodes. I know this is a novelty, and perhaps the websiode content won't greatly affect the regularly aired shows, but really, I truly feel that this is a bad mistake on SciFi's behalf...and maybe even on Canada's Space Channel's Behalf for not seeking to host the webisodes on their Canadian site. It'll be something that they can claim as "EXTRA SPECIAL" on the DVD releases perhaps..but I think that once that is done, it becomes "bonus material" for the DVD and no longer the exciting and unique experience of participating with everyone else, waiting expectantly for the next five minute morsel to whet our appetites for the coming season...instead we have to lurk around in the dark and worry that maybe YOUTUBE is going to cut us off. We are fans and we all want the same great experience.

Maybe this isn't the place to debate...but I think I'll be writing both SciFi and SPACE to see how they can make a better, more rounded fan experience for an evidently GLOBAL audience.

Taken together, this would seem to indicate that radiological signatures may vary in strength, making some easier or difficult to detect. In addition, searchers must know what kind of radiological signature to scan for; a military nuclear warhead may emit a different (and likely more obvious) signature than a "homegrown" bomb and must be distinguishable from ship machinery and local celestial disturbances.

Radiological scans on incoming ships appear to be managed automatically as standard procedure on all [[DRADIS]] contacts. The dubious return of the ''[[Olympic Carrier]]'' heightened suspicions of the Colonials, but the radiological detection occurred automatically as a Raptor escort approached the liner ([[33]]).
