===The Chosen One===
I was thinking that "[[The Chosen One]]" referred to in this instance is [[Chief Tyrol]]. The Hybrid says "the five lights of the apocalypse rising struggling towards the light, the sins revealedonly to those who enter the temple only to the chosen one", and since Baltar was not present during the revelation of a few of the [[Final Five]] at the end of the [[Crossroads, Part II|Season 2 Finale]] when [[Tigh]], Tyrol, [[Anders]] and [[Tory Foster|Foster]] converged in the gym.

Should a page be made to describe The Chosen One, which will then be fleshed out when more is revealed? Since its never stated that the Chosen One is a Cylon, but it is implied that it is [[Baltar]] by the Hybrid's deliberate focus, it is certainly speculation that Tyrol could be The Chosen One, which would argue against his inclusion in such an article until canonized. Still, I'm unsure if a Chosen One page would be considered speculation, and I was unsure what to actually include in a The Chosen One page, this early in the revelation. -- [[User:Vorik111|Vorik111]] 18:49, 12 July 2007 (CDT)
:It's a logical and strong guess, based on Tyrol's ability to sense the temple, if I were to play with the idea. I strongly suspect it was one of Ron Moore's clues about the five, but I don't think it goes much further. (Note: Links like "Baltar" go to disambiguation pages since there are [[Baltar (TOS)|two characters]] that share that name as the wiki references both [[Original Series]] as well as [[Re-imagined Series]]. ::::Important or not, the fact remains the Hybrid's words about the Chosen One have been interpreted in different ways. Number Three concluded she must have been the Chosen One. Baltar thought the Hybrid meant him because she was looking right at him. Vorik111 things the Hybrid meant Tyrol (good reasoning there, BTW). We don't have a shred of evidence for any of these interpretations, and even more different interpretations could be brought up later. The only [[Chosen One]] article we can have is one about the possible candidates (some sort of mini-[[Humanoid Cylon speculation]]), which would involve some speculation, albeit not as much as HCS. Aside from all that, we know close to nothing about the Chosen One's alleged role: sins would be revealed to them, and to them only, when they enter the temple. Surely this has either already happened or will never happen, as the temple is no more. If indeed Tyrol (or Baltar for that matter) is the Chosen One, what significance will that have in Season 4? If Number Three was the Chosen One after all, does that mean anything now that the temple is gone and the Threes have been boxed? Any attempt to answer these questions is pure guesswork, with no aired events to base it on. This means an article about the Chosen One would contain no more than speculation, guesswork and fanwanking. There's nothing wrong with plausible speculation based on aired events, but since aired events relating to the Chosen One are very scarce, they won't allow for much speculation, not enough to warrant an article IMO. I added alot what she said in The Hub but theres alot times when ppl are talking over her making hard to figure out wat she is saying. His father was a [[Tauron (RDM)|Tauron]] immigrant and an attorney specializing in criminal defense and civil liberties ("[[Litmus]]", "Hero"). His mother was an accountant (Hero). His mother, as well as his sister, [[Tamara Adama|Tamara]], died in a suicide bombing when he was a child<ref>[http://www.tvsquad.com/2008/04/03/exclusive-caprica-casting-info-revealed/ Caprica casting info]</ref>. He was still in school when the First [[Cylon War]] started ([[Razor Flashbacks]], Episode 1). *At the time of the [[Miniseries]], William Adama serves out his final weeks as commander of the battlestar ''[[Galactica]]''. After some 50 years of service, the historic warship is in the process of being decommissioned, and it is one of Adama's final duties to formally hand her over to the [[Colonial Ministry of Education]], which would operate the ship as a living museum and educational center commemorating the original Cylon War.
*As a retirement gift, several members of [[Galen Tyrol]]'s deck crew find and restore Adama's old [[Viper Mark II]].
*On news of a renewed Cylon attack, Adama's first thoughts are, "Dead. We're all dead" ([[Home, Part II]]). Despite this, as well as the presumed loss of his ex-wife in Caprica City, he manages to shepherd [[The Fleet (RDM)|the last of humanity]] to safety.

Once President Roslin convinces Adama the futility of fighting against overwhelming odds, and with what may be the last 50,000 humans that remain anywhere, he makes the switch to the more tactical thinking that keeps the Colonial Fleet at least one step ahead of their Cylon pursuers.
*From the outset, he is savvy enough to give every single survivor of the devastating attack on the Colonies a reason for hope for the future: the legend of Earth. Cottle [[Fragged|eventually repairs]] the damage to Adama's body, but Adama's psyche takes the larger hit while he repairs the [[Resistance|damage to the Fleet]] he and Col. Tigh have caused in arresting President Roslin, as well as the existence of a second copy of Valerii.

*While at first Adama takes a similar stance to Tigh in assuming a hard military posture, a conversation with [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]] helps him realize that, despite the problems, the Fleet is his family, and the family must stay together. After finding the [[Tomb of Athena]] with Roslin and reuniting a [[Laura Roslin faction|factioning of the Fleet]], Adama firmly buries the hatchet between he and Roslin publicly.
*In a desperate plan, Adama trusts the second Valerii to help ward off a massive Cylon fleet ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]). Despite his "gut" feelings about the Cylon, he finds common ground often with her, even apologizing to her after a distasteful incident ([[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]).
*Adama stoically accepts Admiral [[Helena Cain]]'s overall command. Wary of her behavior and her crew, Adama follows his own truism: stick to what you know, until you find something better ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).
*Matters with Cain's unusually totalitarian command style come to a head when Cain makes several highly questionable orders that lead him to face off with her battlestar and her command in a military challenge. While the issue is temporarily defused, Adama is told by, of all people, President Roslin that Cain is a threat to the safety of the Fleet's citizens and must be eliminated.
*Adama avoids killing Cain after realizing that he would become the monster that the Cylons believed they were, unaware that she has plotted his demise as well.
*With Cain's fate sealed not by Adama but [[Gina]], a frail President Roslin promotes Adama to Admiral. He gives her a simple, affectionate kiss, which she returns, signifying another change in their turbulent association ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]).
*Adama's sense of justice with Roslin holds when he confronts her about a conspiracy involving her re-election. Roslin admits the conspiracy but she is certain disaster will strike if [[Gaius Baltar]] becomes president. He agrees, but convinces Roslin that the correct course of action is to acknowledge a miscount and cover the conspiracy.
*When ''[[Cloud Nine]]'' and two other ships blow up as a result of [[Gina]]'s last effort of sabotage, Adama is privately infuriated at new President Baltar's refusal to investigate, and begins to wonder if he hadn't made a mistake ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

== New Caprica and beyond ==

*A year later, Adama commands a heavily under-staffed ''Galactica'' as the flagship of a defense fleet, consisting of all ships unable or unwilling to make planetfall on [[New Caprica]]. He now sports a thick mustache, and has apparently taken up smoking. Adama feel lonely in command after he allowed many people close to him to settle on the planet despite his initial refusal. Eventually he grants [[Saul Tigh]] leave to take his wife [[Ellen Tigh|Tigh]] and go as well. His friendship to [[Laura Roslin]] appears to have deepened and the two share a carefree day during celebrations on the planet ("[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]", "[[Unfinished Business]]").
*During the year in orbit, he mends fences with [[Sharon Agathon]]. Although he valued her advise earlier, he called her a "thing" and treated her such. While becoming estranged from the people around him, Adama grows much closer to Agathon, having personal conversations with her and he allowing her to decorate her cell with chairs, tables and other amenities and she has apparently become an advisor of sorts to him ([[Precipice]]).
*Not long after Tigh leaves, a massive Cylon fleet bears down on New Caprica. After a brief discussion with his son aboard ''Pegasus'' they order the Fleet to escape to pre-arranged Jump coordinates. The admiral issues the jump order with a reminder: "We're leaving... but we'll be back."

* Frustrations over the lack of a plan and problems during exercises lead to a conflict with [[Lee Adama|his son]] whom he attacks over his weight gain and perceived softness. While Lee is pragmatic and doesn't believe that they can rescue the people on New Caprica in their state, his father drives everyone to their limit, thinking it is his misjudgments that brought them into the situation.
*He only forgives himself for leaving almost everyone behind after a conversation with Agathon, where she explains that, after being through so much herself, she discovered that she first had to forgive herself in order to get through it. In her opinion, the human race can't survive if Adama can't forgive himself.
*He commissions Agathon as a Colonial officer shortly after making contact with the [[New Caprica Resistance]], showing complete trust in her. She asks how he knows that she won't betray him and he replies he doesn't, stating "that's what trust is". Eventually a rescue plan takes shape, but Adama decides to go to New Caprica alone, ordering his son to take over as guardian of the Fleet should he not return. Despite their differences of opinion, the two have a heartfelt goodbye.
*Although sustaining losses, and with the last-minute assistance of Lee and ''Pegasus'', Adama is able to successfully pull off the rescue attempt. He is lauded by his crew and the civilians for this. He also shaves off his mustache, signifying a new beginning ("[[Occupation]]" through "[[Exodus, Part II]]").
*Adama is awarded the [[Medal of Distinction]] for his 45 years of distinctive service in the Colonial Fleet. To him this is a penance for the harm that he caused in the past, and his belief that he might have been the cause of the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]] ([[Hero]]).
*In an effort to alleviate tensions on ''Galactica'', Adama holds a boxing tournament, disregarding rank, allowing people to work out built up frustrations. He himself joins the festivities by challenging Chief [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]]. Beaten, he declares that he let everyone too close to him, which ultimately led to the fracturing of their family on New Caprica, and vows to not make that mistake again ([[Unfinished Business]]).
*After the discovery of the [[Temple of Five]] on the [[algae planet]], four Cylon [[Basestar (RDM)|basestars]] jump into orbit. A meeting with the Cylons occurs on ''Galactica'', but Adama threatens to nuke the planet should the Cylons make a claim to it. A standoff occurs, and when the Cylons try to launch six Heavy Raiders, Adama orders the arming the ship's [[missile tubes]]. This frightens the Cylons, who recall five of the six and Adama orders a stand down ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Rapture]]").

A veteran of the Cylon War, Tigh is sometimes estranged from his wife Ellen and has been somewhat disillusioned with his career, seeking refuge in alcoholism - a move which has led many in the crew to view him with contempt ([[Miniseries]], "[[33]]").

Tigh began his career as a deckhand<ref name="deckhand">''Ibid''. "Saul Tigh entered the fleet as a deckhand but rose through the ranks and was a CPO (Chief Petty Officer) by the time the First Cylon War broke out."</ref>. Tigh clearly experienced signs of post-traumatic stress disorder; he commented that every time he smelled grease or machine oil he would nearly vomit, as this smell reminded him of the "stink" of Centurions ("[[Valley of Darkness]]", [[List of Deleted Scenes - Season 2 (RDM)#Noteworthy Dialogue|deleted scene]]). While on board, he drowned himself in alcohol and, after a time, about 20 years after the war, encountered [[William Adama]], who had not seen as much combat experience as Tigh himself. Following the Cylon attack, Tigh recovered some of his old verve and attempted to give up alcohol. However, this, combined with the initial stress of flight from the Cylons caused him to over-compensate as a martinet, frequently driving the personnel overly-hard, and berating where encouragement would prove the better option ([[33]]). He excused this by using the truism that the XO is supposed to be the "hard face" of command.

With his drinking problem relatively under control, Tigh settled back into his role as the ''Galactica'''s Executive Officer and proved himself both honest and level-headed - if still hard on himself and others - in a number of circumstances, and he provided the kind of support Adama needed.

During Cylon attacks, Tigh has proved himself to be an excellent battle manager and tactician. His quick actions sometimes saved the ship and the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] from damage or destruction ("[[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]", "[[Scattered]]", "[[Valley of Darkness]]").

Tigh is uneasy around President [[Laura Roslin]] ([[Water]]), and resents what he sees as her interfering with Adama's command ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]) - something born out of his deep respect for Adama which even the most heated of disagreements between them ([[You Can't Go Home Again]]) cannot disrupt.

Tigh personally dislikes [[Kara Thrace]], one of ''Galactica'''s pilots and, while grudgingly conceding she is a fine pilot, does not understand what Adama sees in her ([[Miniseries]]). While they have tried to bury the hatchet between them ([[Miniseries]], "[[Water]]"), there is potentially too much water under the bridge now for them to get completely past their differences.

Some three weeks after the Cylon attack on the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]], Tigh is stunned to discover his wife, [[Ellen Tigh|Ellen]], has not been killed as he had thought, but was rescued from [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]], and carried aboard the ''[[Rising Star (RDM)|Rising Star]]'' as an unconscious "Jane Doe".

Despite the emotional implications from the destruction of the Colonies and life aboard the ship, Tigh is reluctantly thrust further into politics as his wife plays her schemes. Much to his disdain, his wife attempts to procure photo opportunities with the likes of [[Tom Zarek]] -- a person Tigh views with the utmost contempt ([[Colonial Day]]). Additionally, Ellen seems to re-establish Tigh's alcoholism with gratuitous drinking.

Despite this, Adama sends Tigh with a squadron of [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marines]] to arrest [[Laura Roslin]] after Adama discovers that she convinced [[Kara Thrace]] to [[FTL|Jump]] back to [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] to retrieve a historical artifact called the [[Arrow of Apollo]] from the Delphi Museum. Tigh is present in [[CIC]] during the attempted assassination of Adama by [[Sharon Valerii]]. As guards restrain Valerii, Tigh attempts to stop the bleeding from the torso gunshot wounds Adama sustained in the attempt ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]). Needing reliable officers, Tigh grants Lee Adama a parole from his arrest. After his daily duties as [[CAG]] are done, Lee promises to return to the brig when off-shift.

With Adama incapacitated and with Roslin dethroned, Tigh tries to maintain order. However, his irrational and gruff command style displeases many crew members. Morale and ship efficiency began to suffer. Ellen Tigh becomes a private adviser to her husband, frequently questioning his power to command while also suggesting ways of usurping more power and quashing his opponents. Ellen Tigh's advice only exacerbates an already-deteriorating situation.

Tigh's interrogation of suspected Cylon collaborators or infiltrators is brutal. After beating, then nearly shooting the ''Galactica'' copy of Valerii, other issues in the Fleet divert him from further interrogation. He orders a special cage made for her for later interrogation. Tigh also savagely interrogates Valerii's former lover, Chief [[Galen Tyrol]] as a possible [[humanoid Cylon]] himself. Tigh would have left him with Valerii in the newly built Cylon cage if [[Gaius Baltar]] did not intervene to prove medically that Tyrol is not a Cylon himself.

With Roslin in prison, uprisings begin as civilian ships refuse to supply ''Galactica'' until Roslin is released. Worse, the [[Quorum of Twelve (RDM)|Quorum of Twelve]] demand to see Roslin. Knowing of Roslin's hallucinations in the brig, he intentionally invites the Quorum to see Roslin in her poor state in hopes of disillusioning the Quorum. However, Roslin recovers sufficiently from her [[Chamalla]] withdrawal after getting a supply smuggled to her by Corporal [[Venner]], her guard. Tigh, a secular man, believes that the accounts within the [[Sacred Scrolls]] weren't to be believed, and teases Roslin in front of the Quorum on her visions. Roslin not only is able to speak to the Quorum, but decisively reinforces her decisions as well as her role in the search for the location of Earth as told in the Pythian prophesies. This act greatly impresses the dominantly religious-minded Quorum, and infuriates Tigh; fearing a larger civilian government uprising led by the Quorum. Tigh institutes [[Wikipedia:martial law|martial law]] throughout the Fleet in an attempt to maintain order in a rapidly chaotic shuffle of power between the civilian and military governments ([[Fragged]]).

The supply situation leads Tigh to a poor decision of using Viper pilots to command Marines in forcibly retrieving supplies. On [[Gideon|one ship]], a riot leads to four deaths and many injuries due to the pilot's inexperience in managing such a situation. Unlike Adama (who likely would have taken direct responsibility for the "Gideon Massacre"), Tigh places blame solely on the pilot, absolving himself from the incident.

=== Fleet Factioning and Adama's Return ===

The shootings, Tigh's decision for martial law, and his unwillingness to discuss anything with anyone except Ellen Tigh (and the unconscious Adama) becomes the dividing point of those wanting to press on to finding Earth, and those wanting to settle on Kobol ([[Season )|Season 2]]). Tigh's drinking spirals further out of control, leading to more erratic behavior and causing great concern regarding his ability to effectively command, particularly among the [[CIC]] staff. The situation comes to a head when Roslin, tacitly aided by other officers and crew on ''Galactica'', escapes the brig in an attempt to hide amongst the many ships in the Fleet with the aid of [[Tom Zarek]]. Tigh chases down the escaping Raptor using the [[Combat Air Patrol|CAP]], having the Viper fire across the bow of the fleeing Raptor to persuade it to return. The Raptor brazenly continues onward, leading to a crucial decision for the Colonel. Tigh allows the Raptor to escape rather than shooting it down, which would have killed Adama's son and the President and could have destabilized the fleet.

Fortunately for the fleet and Colonel Tigh, Commander Adama regains consciousness shortly after the escape and asks what had happened during his absence. Tigh confesses that he has "frakked things up good," but Adama reassures his friend, saying, "I never had much use for people that second-guessed my decisions, especially if they've never held a command. They don't understand the pressure to make a call that affects the lives of thousands, and you have no one to turn to for backup."

Despite all the serious problems that Tigh created, Adama doesn't blame him, telling Tigh that whatever bad calls were made, they would pick up the pieces together ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Both Adama (also a rather secular man) and Tigh are astounded at the number of ships that secede from the main fleet to join the [[Laura Roslin faction|faction]] that sought the [[Tomb of Athena]] with President Roslin ([[The Farm]]). Tigh backs up Adama while he maintains a similar official position on Roslin and the separated ships as Tigh has. However, after Adama realizes that survival of the entire Fleet would only come if everyone held together, Adama begins to prepare a journey to Kobol to retrieve the remainder of the Fleet and reach out to Roslin ([[Home, Part I]]). At first Tigh seems to believe that Adama is retrieving the faction by more military means, and scoffs at Roslin's religious views on the quest until he realizes that Adama is beginning to follow Roslin's information, taking her reports and visions seriously. Tigh is left in command while Adama successfully reunites the Fleet and reconciles with Roslin ([[Home, Part II]]).

After [[William Adama|Adama's]] return to command and Roslin to the presidency, for a moment the ''Gideon'' incident is almost forgotten. Before she is invited to ''Galactica'', reporter [[D'Anna Biers]] prepares a story about the incident, which could destroy the public's view towards Tigh, and eventually ''Galactica''. However she drops the subject in favor of a ''Galactica'' documentary.

Lt. [[Joe Palladino]], the pilot in charge of the boarding operation to ''Gideon'', blames Tigh for the discredit to his reputation. He begins to terrorize Tigh and his wife, but Tigh later manages to subdue Palladino ([[Final Cut]]).

=== ''Pegasus'' Discovered ===

Things once again turn on their head when ''Galactica'' has a chance encounter with the battlestar ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', a modern type of battlestar and the flagship of Admiral [[Helena Cain]]. Cain, being the superior officer, assumes complete command of the Fleet. The naturally suspicious Tigh is wary about this mixed blessing, but takes it in stride like everything else up until now. When he begins to regularly speak with ''Pegasus''’s own XO [[Jack Fisk]], his suspicions slowly prove to be well founded.

Fisk's conscience-clearing sessions with Tigh reveal that Admiral Cain was responsible for a set of atrocities, the most damning being the pillaging and stranding of a small civilian fleet in open space. When Tigh relays this information to Commander Adama, Adama reminisces about their own questionable activities, particularly their actions regarding the ''[[Olympic Carrier]]''. However, Adama keeps Tigh's warnings in mind and they help him in his decision to stand up to Cain later on ("[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]" through "[[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]").

=== The Election and New Caprica ===
When the presidential election arrives, Colonel Tigh is charged with overseeing the vote tallies on ''Galactica''. When it appears that [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] would win the vote, [[Tory Foster]], President Roslin's aide, approaches Tigh and [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]] to conspire to steal the election for Roslin, foreseeing certain disaster in a Baltar presidency. Tigh, never a fan of Baltar's to begin with, assists in the deception in order to keep Baltar out of office. The plot is overturned when Lt. [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]] later notices the Colonel's suspicious and stand-offish behavior regarding the ballot boxes. Admiral Adama lets Tigh and Dualla off the hook and the official vote tallies are "revised" without the public learning of the Roslin campaign's attempt to steal the election.

One year later, after the fleet settles on [[New Caprica]] on the orders of President Baltar, most of the military staff have all but retired from active service. Col. Tigh is one of the few officers still serving aboard ''Galactica'', but the day eventually comes when Admiral Adama discharges his friend and XO from his duties to let him return to civilian life with his wife. On the surface of New Caprica, the couple run into [[Kara Thrace]] at [[Galen Tyrol|Galen]] and [[Cally Tyrol|Cally]] Tyrol's union rally. The former colonel and captain share an unusually warm embrace, having put their differences behind them at some point in the preceding year. However, their reunion does not last as a large Cylon fleet appears in orbit over the planet and the Cylons occupy New Caprica without firing a shot. Two months into the occupation of New Caprica by the Cylons, Tigh is organizing and recruiting for [[New Caprica Resistance|the resistance on New Caprica]] along with Galen Tyrol and [[Jammer]]. When the Cylons begin to find the weapons hidden by the Resistance, Tigh orders them to be stored in the Temple, believing it to be the safest place as the Cylon respect the sanctity of the Temple and will not search it. When the Cylons discover the weapons, [[Nora]] is shot and Cally Tyrol and her [[Nicholas Tyrol|baby]] barely escape. This leads several members of the [[New Caprica Resistance|resistance movement]] to question whether Tigh is going too far. After Tigh plans an attack that could endanger patients at a hospital, Jammer reports him to the Cylon authorities ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance]]). The Cylons imprison Tigh and physically tear his right eye out. He is badly beaten and put into a small holding cell. Ellen's sexual efforts with [[Cavil]] lead to Tigh's eventual release ([[Occupation]]) though this is later revealed to be a Cylon ruse to blackmail Ellen into collaboration with the Cylons as well as find the location of a high level meeting of the Insurgency.

Following the escape, he initially resumes his post as the executive officer of ''Galactica'', but is unable to conceal his contempt for those who colluded with the Cylons, such as [[Felix Gaeta]]. In a face-off with Admiral Adama, in which the senior officer orders Tigh to "sleep it off", it is clear that the events on New Caprica - most notably, his wife's death - are still adversely affecting Tigh. Following that he spends a lot of time in his quarters trying to cope with what happened to him on New Caprica and is temporarily replaced by [[Karl Agathon]].

He eventually becomes the apparent ringleader of the [[The Circle|Circle]], a group of six people authorized by then-President [[Tom Zarek]], charged with bringing collaborators to justice. Thirteen people fall victim to the Circle's mandate, including [[Jammer]] ([[Collaborators]]).

Tigh is reunited with an old comrade, [[Daniel Novacek]] and tells him the truth of his last mission. Tigh later stops him when Novacek tries to kill Adama in revenge for being the cause of him spending years as a Cylon captive ([[Hero]]). Tigh also referees the boxing fights organized to boost morale ([[Unfinished Business]]). He returns to duty during operations to resupply the Fleet's food stores ([[The Passage]]). When [[Dr. Robert]], a civilian physician, is implicated in the deaths of [[Sagittaron]] refugees, Tigh initially defends his friend, saying that he worked with the resistance on New Caprica. He clashes with [[Karl Agathon]] over this, who insists on investigating Robert. However, when it turns out that Robert was killing the Sagittarons out prejudice, Tigh orders his arrest ([[The Woman King]]).

When [[Kara Thrace]] dies he is visibly heartbroken ([[Maelstrom]]), showing that he did truly care about her despite their differences, which he had begun to show in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]". As the Fleet nears the [[Ionian nebula]] and Gaius Baltar's trial begins, Tigh is one of a few people who hear mysterious music on several occasions. When called to testify in court, he shows up drunk. [[Romo Lampkin|Baltar's lawyer]] exploits this vulnerability and forces Tigh to publicly admit that he killed his wife on New Caprica ([[Crossroads, Part I]]).

Saul Tigh, [[Galen Tyrol]], [[Samuel Anders]] and [[Tory Foster]] begin to hear a [[The Music|song]] only they can hear over and over again, driving them to distraction. They instinctively come to the realization that they are four of the [[final five]] Cylons. For the moment they decide to remain loyal to the Colonials ([[Crossroads, Part II]]).

With a Cylon fleet bearing down on them, Tigh resumes his position as executive officer again. However, almost immediately, this decision is tested by both Tigh's waking nightmares during the onset of the [[Battle of the Ionian Nebula|battle]]—where he believes he will kill his friend and commander, Adama, much the same way [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] tried to—and the return of [[Kara Thrace]], who may be a Cylon. Even amidst this, he is the ''de facto'' leader of the "Final Four" and continues to assure them that they are different than Boomer and the other Cylons. Further, he has them pledge to kill themselves should they feel any inkling of betraying the Fleet ([[He That Believeth In Me]]).

In an attempt to learn more about what it means to be a Cylon and how they deal with pain, Tigh visits [[Caprica-Six]] in the [[brig]] and asks her how it feels to have the blood of billions of beings on her hands. Six replies that she is just as human as he is and can't switch off her feelings, but that she has found another way to deal with her pain. During their conversation, Tigh has a [[Virtual Ellen|hallucination]] of his dead wife, whose body he sees the place of Six. She tries to help him cope with his feelings and share some of her perceived clarity. In act of tenderness, she removes his eye patch, but Tigh rebukes her advances. Six then punches Tigh and kisses him when he lies on the floor ([[Escape Velocity]]).

When [[Natalie]] offers the Colonials access to the Cylon [[Resurrection Hub]] and wants to unbox the [[Number Three|Threes]] in order to learn what she knows about the Final Five, Tigh reacts shocked and fears that he will be uncovered and killed. Instead of cooperation with the Cylon rebels, he urges President Roslin to just destroy the hub ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]).

When Doctor [[Cottle]] discovers that Caprica-Six is pregnant, Admiral Adama is angry at Tigh for "giving in to his weaknesses" and being disloyal. Tigh initially counters that Adama is risking a lot for [[Laura Roslin|woman he cares about]] as well. When Adama asks what Ellen would say about his actions, Tigh becomes furious and physically attacks Adama. The two exchange blows and Adama eventually shoves Tigh to the floor, who breaks Adama's model ship during the fall. Having vented their frustrations, both calm down. Later, Adama decides to stay back in a Raptor to wait for Roslin's return. He temporarily promotes Tigh to admiral and gives him command of the Fleet. Tigh is reluctant, recalling his previous [[Scattered|disastrous experience in command]], but takes the position ([[Sine Qua Non]]).

* Tigh is supposedly a third-generation Colonial soldier. His father was a decorated fighter pilot killed in combat and his grandfather served under President [[Mueller (president)|Mueller]]. However, given Tigh's recently-revealed Cylon nature, his family history may be a fabrication. A veteran of the Cylon War, Tigh is sometimes estranged from his wife Ellen and has been somewhat disillusioned with his career, seeking refuge in alcoholism - a move which has led many in the crew to view him with contempt ([[Miniseries]], "[[33]]").

Tigh began his career as a deckhand<ref name="deckhand">''Ibid''. "Saul Tigh entered the fleet as a deckhand but rose through the ranks and was a CPO (Chief Petty Officer) by the time the First Cylon War broke out."</ref>. By the second year of the first [[Cylon War]], he was serving as a gunner's mate onboard the ''[[Brenik]]''. His ship was boarded by the Cylons where he and others fought in hand to hand combat, during the bloodiest time of that war. Tigh eventually achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer. When Viper pilot numbers began running low in the war, Tigh was drafted into Colonial [[officer candidate school]] and was reassigned as a Viper pilot.<ref>{{cite rdm podcast|episode=Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down}}</ref> As a pilot, he demonstrated considerable skill, earning several medals while posted aboard the battlestar ''[[Athena (Battlestar)|Athena]]''.<ref name="athena">''Ibid''. After the cessation of hostilities, he was dismissed from service and eked out an existence as a deckhand aboard a commercial freighter. Tigh clearly experienced signs of post-traumatic stress disorder; he commented that every time he smelled grease or machine oil he would nearly vomit, as this smell reminded him of the "stink" of Centurions ("[[Valley of Darkness]]", [[List of Deleted Scenes - Season 2 (RDM)#Noteworthy Dialogue|deleted scene]]). While on board, he drowned himself in alcohol and, after a time, about 20 years after the war, encountered [[William Adama]], who had not seen as much combat experience as Tigh himself. They became fast friends, and remained in touch after Adama reenlisted with the service. Two years later, Tigh found himself reinstated into the Colonial Fleet at the rank of captain, thanks to his old friend, and now major, Adama.<ref name="adama">''Ibid''. Following the Cylon attack, Tigh recovered some of his old verve and attempted to give up alcohol. However, this, combined with the initial stress of flight from the Cylons caused him to over-compensate as a martinet, frequently driving the personnel overly-hard, and berating where encouragement would prove the better option ([[33]]). He excused this by using the truism that the XO is supposed to be the "hard face" of command.

With his drinking problem relatively under control, Tigh settled back into his role as the ''Galactica'''s Executive Officer and proved himself both honest and level-headed - if still hard on himself and others - in a number of circumstances, and he provided the kind of support Adama needed.

During Cylon attacks, Tigh has proved himself to be an excellent battle manager and tactician. His quick actions sometimes saved the ship and the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] from damage or destruction ("[[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]", "[[Scattered]]", "[[Valley of Darkness]]").

Tigh is uneasy around President [[Laura Roslin]] ([[Water]]), and resents what he sees as her interfering with Adama's command ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]) - something born out of his deep respect for Adama which even the most heated of disagreements between them ([[You Can't Go Home Again]]) cannot disrupt.

Tigh personally dislikes [[Kara Thrace]], one of ''Galactica'''s pilots and, while grudgingly conceding she is a fine pilot, does not understand what Adama sees in her ([[Miniseries]]). Tigh sees Thrace as an egotistical, insubordinate youngster. While they have tried to bury the hatchet between them ([[Miniseries]], "[[Water]]"), there is potentially too much water under the bridge now for them to get completely past their differences.

Outside of Adama, Tigh has few others he regards as confidants aboard ship; and since the initial Cylon attack, he has withdrawn from interacting with the crew during off-duty hours, making him perhaps more isolated than even Adama - who is at least held in awe and respect by the crew.

Some three weeks after the Cylon attack on the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]], Tigh is stunned to discover his wife, [[Ellen Tigh|Ellen]], has not been killed as he had thought, but was rescued from [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]], and carried aboard the ''[[Rising Star (RDM)|Rising Star]]'' as an unconscious "Jane Doe".

Despite the emotional implications from the destruction of the Colonies and life aboard the ship, Tigh is reluctantly thrust further into politics as his wife plays her schemes. Much to his disdain, his wife attempts to procure photo opportunities with the likes of [[Tom Zarek]] -- a person Tigh views with the utmost contempt ([[Colonial Day]]). Additionally, Ellen seems to re-establish Tigh's alcoholism with gratuitous drinking.

Despite this, Adama sends Tigh with a squadron of [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marines]] to arrest [[Laura Roslin]] after Adama discovers that she convinced [[Kara Thrace]] to [[FTL|Jump]] back to [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] to retrieve a historical artifact called the [[Arrow of Apollo]] from the Delphi Museum. This action deprives the Fleet of a crucial military asset -- a captured [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raider]], intended to have been used to plant a nuclear warhead aboard a basestar in orbit around the planet believed to be [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]] -- and convinces Adama that Roslin is abusing her authority.

Onboard ''[[Colonial One]]'', Tigh's men and Roslin's [[Presidential Security Service|personal security agents]] are at a standoff when [[Lee Adama]] aims a weapon at Tigh's head and attempts to thwart the arrest. Attempting to defuse the situation, Roslin agrees to be arrested and Lee Adama is arrested on charges of treason ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]).

Tigh is present in [[CIC]] during the attempted assassination of Adama by [[Sharon Valerii]]. As guards restrain Valerii, Tigh attempts to stop the bleeding from the torso gunshot wounds Adama sustained in the attempt ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]). Needing reliable officers, Tigh grants Lee Adama a parole from his arrest. After his daily duties as [[CAG]] are done, Lee promises to return to the brig when off-shift.

With Adama incapacitated and with Roslin dethroned, Tigh tries to maintain order. However, his irrational and gruff command style displeases many crew members. Morale and ship efficiency began to suffer. Ellen Tigh becomes a private adviser to her husband, frequently questioning his power to command while also suggesting ways of usurping more power and quashing his opponents. Ellen Tigh's advice only exacerbates an already-deteriorating situation.

Tigh's interrogation of suspected Cylon collaborators or infiltrators is brutal. After beating, then nearly shooting the ''Galactica'' copy of Valerii, other issues in the Fleet divert him from further interrogation. He orders a special cage made for her for later interrogation. Tigh also savagely interrogates Valerii's former lover, Chief [[Galen Tyrol]] as a possible [[humanoid Cylon]] himself. Tigh would have left him with Valerii in the newly built Cylon cage if [[Gaius Baltar]] did not intervene to prove medically that Tyrol is not a Cylon himself.

With Roslin in prison, uprisings begin as civilian ships refuse to supply ''Galactica'' until Roslin is released. Worse, the [[Quorum of Twelve (RDM)|Quorum of Twelve]] demand to see Roslin. Knowing of Roslin's hallucinations in the brig, he intentionally invites the Quorum to see Roslin in her poor state in hopes of disillusioning the Quorum. However, Roslin recovers sufficiently from her [[Chamalla]] withdrawal after getting a supply smuggled to her by Corporal [[Venner]], her guard. Tigh, a secular man, believes that the accounts within the [[Sacred Scrolls]] weren't to be believed, and teases Roslin in front of the Quorum on her visions. Roslin not only is able to speak to the Quorum, but decisively reinforces her decisions as well as her role in the search for the location of Earth as told in the Pythian prophesies. This act greatly impresses the dominantly religious-minded Quorum, and infuriates Tigh; fearing a larger civilian government uprising led by the Quorum. Tigh institutes [[Wikipedia:martial law|martial law]] throughout the Fleet in an attempt to maintain order in a rapidly chaotic shuffle of power between the civilian and military governments ([[Fragged]]).

The supply situation leads Tigh to a poor decision of using Viper pilots to command Marines in forcibly retrieving supplies. On [[Gideon|one ship]], a riot leads to four deaths and many injuries due to the pilot's inexperience in managing such a situation. Unlike Adama (who likely would have taken direct responsibility for the "Gideon Massacre"), Tigh places blame solely on the pilot, absolving himself from the incident.

=== Fleet Factioning and Adama's Return ===

The shootings, Tigh's decision for martial law, and his unwillingness to discuss anything with anyone except Ellen Tigh (and the unconscious Adama) becomes the dividing point of those wanting to press on to finding Earth, and those wanting to settle on Kobol ([[Season )|Season 2]]). Tigh's drinking spirals further out of control, leading to more erratic behavior and causing great concern regarding his ability to effectively command, particularly among the [[CIC]] staff. The situation comes to a head when Roslin, tacitly aided by other officers and crew on ''Galactica'', escapes the brig in an attempt to hide amongst the many ships in the Fleet with the aid of [[Tom Zarek]]. Tigh chases down the escaping Raptor using the [[Combat Air Patrol|CAP]], having the Viper fire across the bow of the fleeing Raptor to persuade it to return. The Raptor brazenly continues onward, leading to a crucial decision for the Colonel. Tigh allows the Raptor to escape rather than shooting it down, which would have killed Adama's son and the President and could have destabilized the fleet.

Fortunately for the fleet and Colonel Tigh, Commander Adama regains consciousness shortly after the escape and asks what had happened during his absence. Tigh confesses that he has "frakked things up good," but Adama reassures his friend, saying, "I never had much use for people that second-guessed my decisions, especially if they've never held a command. They don't understand the pressure to make a call that affects the lives of thousands, and you have no one to turn to for backup."

Despite all the serious problems that Tigh created, Adama doesn't blame him, telling Tigh that whatever bad calls were made, they would pick up the pieces together ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Both Adama (also a rather secular man) and Tigh are astounded at the number of ships that secede from the main fleet to join the [[Laura Roslin faction|faction]] that sought the [[Tomb of Athena]] with President Roslin ([[The Farm]]). Tigh backs up Adama while he maintains a similar official position on Roslin and the separated ships as Tigh has. However, after Adama realizes that survival of the entire Fleet would only come if everyone held together, Adama begins to prepare a journey to Kobol to retrieve the remainder of the Fleet and reach out to Roslin ([[Home, Part I]]). At first Tigh seems to believe that Adama is retrieving the faction by more military means, and scoffs at Roslin's religious views on the quest until he realizes that Adama is beginning to follow Roslin's information, taking her reports and visions seriously. Tigh is left in command while Adama successfully reunites the Fleet and reconciles with Roslin ([[Home, Part II]]).

After [[William Adama|Adama's]] return to command and Roslin to the presidency, for a moment the ''Gideon'' incident is almost forgotten. Before she is invited to ''Galactica'', reporter [[D'Anna Biers]] prepares a story about the incident, which could destroy the public's view towards Tigh, and eventually ''Galactica''. However she drops the subject in favor of a ''Galactica'' documentary.

Lt. [[Joe Palladino]], the pilot in charge of the boarding operation to ''Gideon'', blames Tigh for the discredit to his reputation. He begins to terrorize Tigh and his wife, but Tigh later manages to subdue Palladino ([[Final Cut]]).

=== ''Pegasus'' Discovered ===

Things once again turn on their head when ''Galactica'' has a chance encounter with the battlestar ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', a modern type of battlestar and the flagship of Admiral [[Helena Cain]]. Cain, being the superior officer, assumes complete command of the Fleet. The naturally suspicious Tigh is wary about this mixed blessing, but takes it in stride like everything else up until now. When he begins to regularly speak with ''Pegasus''’s own XO [[Jack Fisk]], his suspicions slowly prove to be well founded.

Fisk's conscience-clearing sessions with Tigh reveal that Admiral Cain was responsible for a set of atrocities, the most damning being the pillaging and stranding of a small civilian fleet in open space. When Tigh relays this information to Commander Adama, Adama reminisces about their own questionable activities, particularly their actions regarding the ''[[Olympic Carrier]]''. However, Adama keeps Tigh's warnings in mind and they help him in his decision to stand up to Cain later on ("[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]" through "[[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]").

=== The Election and New Caprica ===
When the presidential election arrives, Colonel Tigh is charged with overseeing the vote tallies on ''Galactica''. When it appears that [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] would win the vote, [[Tory Foster]], President Roslin's aide, approaches Tigh and [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]] to conspire to steal the election for Roslin, foreseeing certain disaster in a Baltar presidency. Tigh, never a fan of Baltar's to begin with, assists in the deception in order to keep Baltar out of office. The plot is overturned when Lt. [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]] later notices the Colonel's suspicious and stand-offish behavior regarding the ballot boxes. Admiral Adama lets Tigh and Dualla off the hook and the official vote tallies are "revised" without the public learning of the Roslin campaign's attempt to steal the election.

One year later, after the fleet settles on [[New Caprica]] on the orders of President Baltar, most of the military staff have all but retired from active service. Col. Tigh is one of the few officers still serving aboard ''Galactica'', but the day eventually comes when Admiral Adama discharges his friend and XO from his duties to let him return to civilian life with his wife. On the surface of New Caprica, the couple run into [[Kara Thrace]] at [[Galen Tyrol|Galen]] and [[Cally Tyrol|Cally]] Tyrol's union rally. The former colonel and captain share an unusually warm embrace, having put their differences behind them at some point in the preceding year. However, their reunion does not last as a large Cylon fleet appears in orbit over the planet and the Cylons occupy New Caprica without firing a shot. Tigh and his wife are last seen watching in utter shock as [[Cylon Centurion]]s march through the streets of New Caprica City ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

Two months into the occupation of New Caprica by the Cylons, Tigh is organizing and recruiting for [[New Caprica Resistance|the resistance on New Caprica]] along with Galen Tyrol and [[Jammer]]. When the Cylons begin to find the weapons hidden by the Resistance, Tigh orders them to be stored in the Temple, believing it to be the safest place as the Cylon respect the sanctity of the Temple and will not search it. When the Cylons discover the weapons, [[Nora]] is shot and Cally Tyrol and her [[Nicholas Tyrol|baby]] barely escape. This leads several members of the [[New Caprica Resistance|resistance movement]] to question whether Tigh is going too far. After Tigh plans an attack that could endanger patients at a hospital, Jammer reports him to the Cylon authorities ([[Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance]]). The Cylons imprison Tigh and physically tear his right eye out. He is badly beaten and put into a small holding cell. Ellen's sexual efforts with [[Cavil]] lead to Tigh's eventual release ([[Occupation]]) though this is later revealed to be a Cylon ruse to blackmail Ellen into collaboration with the Cylons as well as find the location of a high level meeting of the Insurgency.

Following the escape, he initially resumes his post as the executive officer of ''Galactica'', but is unable to conceal his contempt for those who colluded with the Cylons, such as [[Felix Gaeta]]. In a face-off with Admiral Adama, in which the senior officer orders Tigh to "sleep it off", it is clear that the events on New Caprica - most notably, his wife's death - are still adversely affecting Tigh. Following that he spends a lot of time in his quarters trying to cope with what happened to him on New Caprica and is temporarily replaced by [[Karl Agathon]].

He eventually becomes the apparent ringleader of the [[The Circle|Circle]], a group of six people authorized by then-President [[Tom Zarek]], charged with bringing collaborators to justice. Thirteen people fall victim to the Circle's mandate, including [[Jammer]] ([[Collaborators]]).

Tigh is reunited with an old comrade, [[Daniel Novacek]] and tells him the truth of his last mission. Tigh later stops him when Novacek tries to kill Adama in revenge for being the cause of him spending years as a Cylon captive ([[Hero]]). Tigh also referees the boxing fights organized to boost morale ([[Unfinished Business]]). He returns to duty during operations to resupply the Fleet's food stores ([[The Passage]]). When [[Dr. Robert]], a civilian physician, is implicated in the deaths of [[Sagittaron]] refugees, Tigh initially defends his friend, saying that he worked with the resistance on New Caprica. He clashes with [[Karl Agathon]] over this, who insists on investigating Robert. However, when it turns out that Robert was killing the Sagittarons out prejudice, Tigh orders his arrest ([[The Woman King]]).

When [[Kara Thrace]] dies he is visibly heartbroken ([[Maelstrom]]), showing that he did truly care about her despite their differences, which he had begun to show in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]". As the Fleet nears the [[Ionian nebula]] and Gaius Baltar's trial begins, Tigh is one of a few people who hear mysterious music on several occasions. When called to testify in court, he shows up drunk. [[Romo Lampkin|Baltar's lawyer]] exploits this vulnerability and forces Tigh to publicly admit that he killed his wife on New Caprica ([[Crossroads, Part I]]).

Saul Tigh, [[Galen Tyrol]], [[Samuel Anders]] and [[Tory Foster]] begin to hear a [[The Music|song]] only they can hear over and over again, driving them to distraction. They instinctively come to the realization that they are four of the [[final five]] Cylons. For the moment they decide to remain loyal to the Colonials ([[Crossroads, Part II]]).

With a Cylon fleet bearing down on them, Tigh resumes his position as executive officer again. However, almost immediately, this decision is tested by both Tigh's waking nightmares during the onset of the [[Battle of the Ionian Nebula|battle]]—where he believes he will kill his friend and commander, Adama, much the same way [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] tried to—and the return of [[Kara Thrace]], who may be a Cylon. Even amidst this, he is the ''de facto'' leader of the "Final Four" and continues to assure them that they are different than Boomer and the other Cylons. Further, he has them pledge to kill themselves should they feel any inkling of betraying the Fleet ([[He That Believeth In Me]]).

In an attempt to learn more about what it means to be a Cylon and how they deal with pain, Tigh visits [[Caprica-Six]] in the [[brig]] and asks her how it feels to have the blood of billions of beings on her hands. Six replies that she is just as human as he is and can't switch off her feelings, but that she has found another way to deal with her pain. During their conversation, Tigh has a [[Virtual Ellen|hallucination]] of his dead wife, whose body he sees the place of Six. She tries to help him cope with his feelings and share some of her perceived clarity. In act of tenderness, she removes his eye patch, but Tigh rebukes her advances. Six then punches Tigh and kisses him when he lies on the floor ([[Escape Velocity]]).

When [[Natalie]] offers the Colonials access to the Cylon [[Resurrection Hub]] and wants to unbox the [[Number Three|Threes]] in order to learn what she knows about the Final Five, Tigh reacts shocked and fears that he will be uncovered and killed. Instead of cooperation with the Cylon rebels, he urges President Roslin to just destroy the hub ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]).

When Doctor [[Cottle]] discovers that Caprica-Six is pregnant, Admiral Adama is angry at Tigh for "giving in to his weaknesses" and being disloyal. Tigh initially counters that Adama is risking a lot for [[Laura Roslin|woman he cares about]] as well. When Adama asks what Ellen would say about his actions, Tigh becomes furious and physically attacks Adama. The two exchange blows and Adama eventually shoves Tigh to the floor, who breaks Adama's model ship during the fall. Having vented their frustrations, both calm down. Later, Adama decides to stay back in a Raptor to wait for Roslin's return. He temporarily promotes Tigh to admiral and gives him command of the Fleet. Tigh is reluctant, recalling his previous [[Scattered|disastrous experience in command]], but takes the position ([[Sine Qua Non]]).

However, given Tigh's recently-revealed Cylon nature, his family history may be a fabrication. In the [[Pegasus (Extended Version)|Extended Cut]] of the episode "Pegasus" Admiral Cain states that the ship is nearly twice the size of ''Galactica'', but needs only half the crew. This probably refers to either the dual [[landing bay|landing bays]] or the ship's volume, but not its length. The decreased manpower requirement stems from increased computerization and automation. This is also evident in the comparatively small size of the ''Pegasus'' [[CIC]].

[[Frank Bruno]] at the [[Caprica Transfer Station]] tells [[Kendra Shaw]] that "half the officers on this base would kill to get posted to that ship". It is apparently important enough for the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] as a military target to infiltrate, as [[Gina Inviere]] (a [[Number Six]] copy) assumes the role of network administrator on the ship ([[Razor]]). [[William Adama]] mentions the reputation of Cain and her ship to President [[Laura Roslin]] ("[[Pegasus (Extended Version)|Pegasus]]", extended version).

Weeks before the Fall ''Pegasus'' docked at the [[Scorpion Fleet Shipyards]], where she was to undergo a three-month systems overhaul. All of the ship’s networked [[Computers in the Re-imagined Series|computers]] were taken off-line in preparation of the refit, leaving the heavily automated ship partially inoperative but also less vulnerable to electronic attacks. When the Cylons launch a surprise assault against the shipyard, they are only able to shut down ''Pegasus's'' weapons grid and navigational computer. The attack works in extreme favor of the Cylons, and they overtake the installation in a matter of minutes. However, the multiple nuclear weapons that they detonate create an [[EMP]] that blinds their [[DRADIS]], leaving them temporarily unaware of Colonial movement in the immediate area. Admiral Cain uses this to her advantage and orders her ship to [[Blind jump|randomly jump without a coordinates check]].

After their escape, Cain leads ''Pegasus'' on a series of hit-and-run attacks on various Cylon assets. Among them is an [[Battle of the Communications Relay|attack]] on what is to be believed a lightly defended communications relay, but turns out to be a staging area filled with fifteen squadrons of [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Raider]]s. When Cain's long-time Executive officer [[Jurgen Belzen]] refuses launch all of the ships' fighters against such odds, Cain publicly executes him in CIC and promotes [[Jack Fisk]] to replace him. During the battle, the [[Cylon agent]] [[Gina]] allows a party of [[Cylon Centurion|Centurions]] to board the ship, resulting in heavy casualties. When Gina is discovered, she kills several Marines before she is subdued. Once imprisoned, Admiral Cain gives her crew free rein in interrogating the Cylon, which leads to brutal gang-rape and other physical and emotional abuse.

Some time later, ''Pegasus'' discovers that a Cylon fleet that it is tracking appears to be jumping, not randomly, but to systems with natural resources. The battlestar accidentally encounters the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] led by ''[[Galactica]]'' when it jumps ahead to scout the Cylon target's projected next position (as it turned out, the Cylons were jumping to systems ''Galactica'' had passed through or explored). Cain assumes overall command of the Fleet and begins transferring supplies and many personnel between the two battlestars, including Captain [[Lee Adama]] and Lieutenant [[Kara Thrace]]. Cain appears unconcerned with the needs of the civilians and their ships, a problem noted to Commander Adama by President [[Laura Roslin]].

Chief [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]] mentions during his interrogation by Colonel [[Saul Tigh]] that he served aboard a number of battlestars in his military career, including ''Pegasus'' ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]). If Admiral Cain ever knew him during this time, she makes no mention of it, and has no reservations sentencing him and [[Karl Agathon]] to death when they inadvertently kill Lieutenant [[Alastair Thorne]], Cain's chief "Cylon interrogator". [[William Adama]] refuses to permit the execution, precipitating an armed standoff between the two ships ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

The battlestar commanders later set aside their animosity and join forces to successfully destroy a Cylon [[Resurrection Ship]]. However in the midst of celebration, Cain is killed by Gina, who escapes from the battlestar ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]).

Admiral Cain is succeeded by Jack Fisk, who in turn is murdered after running afoul of the Fleet's illicit black market ([[Black Market]]). ''Pegasus'' is briefly commanded by engineer-turned-commander [[Barry Garner]], who dies saving the ship during the [[Battle of the Binary Star System]]. ''Pegasus's'' final commander is Lee Adama, with his wife [[Anastasia Dualla]] later serving as his XO.

''Pegasus'' becomes unofficially known as "The Beast" within the Fleet, although it is not known if the nickname comes from her tenacity in combat or the battlestar's sordid crew history ([[The Captain's Hand]]).

===A Lost Civilian Fleet===

''Pegasus'' originally had its own small fleet of 15 civilian ships, found about a week after the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]]. Rather than defending them (as ''Galactica'' had at [[Ragnar Anchorage]]), Admiral Cain sees them as potential spare parts for ''Pegasus'', and decides that ''Pegasus's'' military needs are a priority over them. The civilian ships are stripped for parts, including their weapons and FTL drives, marooning them and leaving them completely at the mercy of the Cylons when Cain left.

However not all of the civilians are left to die. After looking over the passenger lists, Cain selects people who would be of value (such as [[Peter Laird]], an aeronautical engineer), forcibly drafting them into her crew. However, several selectees aboard the civilian transport ''[[Scylla]]'' are traveling with their families and refuse to leave without them. Admiral Cain orders [[Kendra Shaw]] and her Marines to kill the families of the protesters to shock the rest into submission. After having killed 10 people and carried out Cain's orders, they then abandoned the civilian ships to pursue Admiral Cain's campaign of hit-and-run attacks against Cylon forces ("[[Razor]]", "[[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]").

===New Caprica===

Following the founding of [[New Caprica]], ''Pegasus'' is assigned to the Orbital Defense Force that protects the planet. During this time, Commander [[Lee Adama]] keeps an emergency supply of medication aboard for the pilots, despite the fact that their crew are severely depleted due to colonization of the planet. One year after the founding the colony, the Cylons return in force. Unable to defend the planet, ''Pegasus'' and the remaining ships orbiting the planet jump away ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

Four months later, ''Pegasus'' and ''Galactica'' plan a rescue mission to recover the people left on the planet ([[Occupation]]). While the plans initially called for the involvement of ''Pegasus'' in the recovery, Admiral Adama decides that the remnants of the Fleet, the last free people of humanity, should not be left unprotected if things went awry. Adama takes ''Galactica'' in the rescue effort without ''Pegasus'', ordering his son to stay with the Fleet at a rendezvous point to await their return ("[[Precipice]]", "[[Exodus, Part I]]").

Despite Adama's orders, ''Pegasus'' leaves her fighters to protect the remains of the Fleet and returns to New Caprica to participate in the rescue. ''Pegasus'' jumps into the fight and finds ''Galactica'' under fire from four Cylon basestars. ''Pegasus'' destroys one of the baseships with her forward batteries and attracts the attention of the others while ''Galactica'' repairs its FTL drive and prepares to jump away.

''Pegasus'' reels from the onslought of missiles from the remaining Cylon basestars. It becomes clear to Admiral Adama that ''Pegasus's'' trip was one-way. Following ''Galactica's'' jump, Commander Adama sets his battlestar's batteries on auto-fire and orders the crew to abandon ship, pausing just long enough to give his dying command a quiet thanks. As the evacuation Raptors jump away, ''Pegasus'', mortally damaged and now completely unmanned, collides with a basestar, destroying it. As ''Pegasus'' explodes, the remains of her starboard [[flight pod]] collides with another basestar, destroying it as well ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

== Equipment ==

''Pegasus'' had built in electronic countermeasure (ECM) generators as it deviates missiles away from the ship ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]).

''Pegasus'' also had [[Viper Mark VII]] production facilities ([[Scar]]). This is a capability that would allow the ship to be self sufficient on extended deployments, so long as the battlestar has sufficient means to gather the raw materials necessary for construction.

==Air Wing==

''Pegasus'' operates at least four squadrons of [[Viper Mark VII]] space fighters. During the [[Battle of the Binary Star System]] four [[:Category:Fighter squadrons|color-coded squadrons]] are identified verbally and on the [[DRADIS]] ([[The Captain's Hand]]). Since these designations are later used for very different squadrons led by different people, they are very likely just [[wireless]] callsigns. Moreover, the standing [[Squadrons of Galactica|squadrons on ''Galactica'']] have more elaborate names and are numbered; such as the [[Vigilantes]]. The colors and group leaders could be assigned on an ad-hoc basis, while a more formal structure exists in the background. Two color squadrons might also be one "full" squadron divided in two for tactical purposes.

Given that ''Pegasus'' suffers over 90 Viper casualties with 32 being destroyed during its [[Battle of the Communications Relay|attack on a Cylon communications relay]] ([[Razor]]), but is still able to field a sizable Viper complement at the time of encountering ''Galactica'', this suggests that her initial Viper load out was very large. The exact number of Vipers per squadron for a full-strength battlestar is unknown. However, if ''Pegasus'' fielded only four squadrons, the number of Vipers per squadron must have been higher than 20, or there were more than four squadrons of Vipers aboard in order to sustain these losses.

''Pegasus'' also has a relatively large number of [[Raptors]], since 20 Raptors can be deployed for the [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] rescue mission, while ''Galactica'' alone appears to have difficulties deploying more than about 5 Raptors at one time ("[[The Farm]]", "[[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]").

==Notes==
*According to [[David Eick]]'s video blog, it would have been impossible to afford creating new sets for the entire interior of ''Pegasus'' on the budget of an episodic television show. This expense was circumvented when a year beforehand Ron D. Moore and David Eick bought (for next to nothing) the abandoned sets of the failed pilot for the FOX network's ''Lost In Space'' remake, directed by John Woo. The production team then held onto the sets hoping to find some later use for them, eventually using them for "[[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]". The sets were then radically redesigned and painted to give them the aesthetic look of ''Galactica'', but sleeker and more advanced.
