== Overview ==
:''After the suicide bombing, the [[Cylons (RDM) |Cylons]] institute stricter controls on the human population on [[New Caprica]]. Aboard ''[[Galactica]]'', plans for the rescue from New Caprica move forward now that communication with the [[New Caprica Resistance|resistance]] has been established.''

== Summary ==
*[[Gaius Baltar]] ostensibly has [[Laura Roslin]] detained in a cell. He discusses the suicide bombings, after which he releases her.
*After [[Duck]]'s suicide bombing in an effort to kill Baltar, the Cylons round up random civilians, including [[Cally Tyrol]].
*The [[Leoben Conoy|Leoben copy]] that has imprisoned [[Kara Thrace]] introduces her to [[Kacey]], supposedly [[Hera|another]] Cylon-human hybrid fertilized by this Cylon's consciousness and using Thrace's [[The Farm|egg from her stolen ovary]]. Thrace immediately treats it as an "it."
*[[Felix Gaeta]] continues to give information to the resistance, although [[Galen Tyrol]] is unaware that Gaeta is his source. Tyrol believes Gaeta is a collaborator.
*Tyrol talks to Jammer about the situation with [[Cally Tyrol|his wife]], believing that people such as himself and Jammer will be lauded, while people like Gaeta will be strung up, causing feelings of regret in Jammer for his secret Cylon collaboration as an [[NCP]] member.
*Jammer asks [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]] to release Cally Tyrol from prison. Boomer claims bureaucracy prevents her, but later visits Tyrol. [[Resistance (episode)|Their history]] only makes matters worse.
*Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]] swears in [[Sharon Agathon]] as a Colonial officer and sends her to New Caprica as the resistance liaison. Commander [[Lee Adama]] objects to most of the plan, and is generally ignored by the planning team.
*Later, Commander Adama tries to convince his father that risking what's left of mankind to save those on New Caprica wasn't a call the admiral could make. Admiral Adama tells his son that he can stay with the Fleet with ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' on guard, but that he and ''Galactica'' must try to rescue the New Capricans.
*[[Saul Tigh]], Chief Tyrol, and [[Samuel Anders]] decide to meet Agathon at [[Breeders Canyon]].
*[[Ellen Tigh]], threatened with more harm to her husband, tips off the Cylons to the rendezvous.
*Another damaging suicide bombing moves the Cylons to more drastic actions.
*The Cylons force Baltar to sign an execution order, at gunpoint, for 200 civilians, including [[Cally Tyrol]], Roslin and [[Tom Zarek]]. [[Caprica-Six]] is shot by a [[Five]] while protesting against the order. The detainees are transported outside the city.
*Kara Thrace continues to ignore Kacey in the apartment. When Thrace leaves to another room, she returns to find the child motionless in a pool of blood.
*As Kacey awakens in a hospital, Thrace is overjoyed, and takes Conoy's hand.
*After the truck of detainees stops and releases the prisoners to "stretch their legs," a masked [[Jammer]] cuts Cally Tyrol's bonds and tells her to run. As as she gets away, [[Cylon Centurion]]s appear to execute the detainees.
*Zarek pulls Roslin away from the front of the crowd.
*As Cally Tyrol runs through the forest, the sound of automatic gunfire rings out.
*After Sharon Agathon and Anders' teams meet and formulate their plans, they are soon ambushed by Centurions.

== Questions ==

*If [[Sharon Agathon]] is killed during her mission on [[New Caprica]], will she be able to download into a new body?
**While download is likely, Agathon would be immediately kept as an intelligence source.
*Where will [[Cally Tyrol]] be able to run to? She was ordered to face execution by the Colonial Government.
**Returning to the colony is probable, keeping out of sight, probably in the underground bunker where the [[wireless]] comm center is located.
*Why did the Cylons abandon their plan for a public execution?
**A public execution might have made matters worse, while [[Wikipedia:Forced disappearance|"disappearances"]] would allow for both an effective threat and plausible deniability.
*If viewers are to assume that the gunfire at the end of the episode is not from the Centurions, then who is firing? ([[Exodus, Part I|Answer]])
*Is Gaeta showing rather unusual behavior? If so, how much will his role as "inside man" be affected?
**Gaeta is witnessing the oppression of humanity at the highest level from a man he once admired. It is probable that Gaeta's stress level is [[Flight of the Phoenix|again affecting his behavior]].
*What is the role of the five unseen Cylon models in the occupation? Are they present and simply remaining off-camera for the benefit of the audience? Have they attempted to hide themselves from the Colonials?
**{{spoilli|According to interviews with Grace Park, Dean Stockwell, and Tricia Helfer, the remaining Cylons are so secret that even the seven models known to the audience don't know who the last five are. See the Talk article for more information.}}
**{{spoilli|According to an [http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30381 interview] with Aaron Douglas and Tamoh Penikett, the remaining five models may have all been [[Boxing|boxed]].}}
**It's also concievable that the Cylon are divided on the threat Humanity represents and the other 5 models believe they should be wiped out, or have there own seperate agendas like Leoben
*Why do no Leoben Conoy copies attend the meeting on ''Colonial One'' regarding the execution order?
**Conoy's motives on New Caprica appear to be entirely selfish—he is there for Kara Thrace only. No other copies have been witnessed on New Caprica to date.
*[[Cally Tyrol]] and [[Sharon Agathon]] both took their husbands' names upon marriage, as did [[Ellen Tigh]], [[Caroline Adama]] and [[Sesha Abinell]]. Are [[Anastasia Dualla]] and [[Kara Thrace]] now Anastasia Adama, and Kara Anders, respectively?
*What is the relationship between Caprica-Six's shooting and the reappearance of [[Cylon-Related_Hallucinations#Baltar.27s_Internal_Six|Baltar's Internal Six]]?
*On the topic of internal manifestations, what happened to Caprica-Six's Internal-Baltar? Will he ever show himself again? Has he disappeared much like his counterpart in Baltar, now that the real-world Baltar is in Caprica-Six's midst?
*Now that the Lt. Sharon Agathon has landed on the surface of New Caprica, how can she be distinguished from other [[Number Eight]]s there?
**Other than her [[flight suit]], it remains unclear how [[Sharon Agathon]] will be distinguished from other [[Number Eight]]s. Admiral Adama confirmed that Cylon Centurions are not sentient, and may take instruction from Agathon because of her true nature.
*How will ''humans'' identify Sharon Agathon should she ever leave their sight? How, for example, can she safely return to ''[[Galactica]]''?
**In "[[Exodus, Part I]]", she did not remove her dogtags when changing out of her flight suit. She may have kept them on as a means of identification.
*How did Jammer identify the particular Eight he talked to as "Boomer?"
**Initially, Jammer just calls [[Boomer-Eight]] the honorific "Sir." Its concievable that Boomer has certain characteristics from her time on ''Galactica'' that other Eights don't have, that give her away as Boomer-Eight.
*If the Centurions are incapable of distinguishing between individual copies of a model, why would they fire on Sharon Agathon, who should be just another Eight to them?
**Agathon's back was turned to the Centurions at the time before the shooting began. They may not have registered her presence in the group. Also, her Colonial-issue flight suit may have given her away. No "legitimate" Eight on New Caprica would need to wear one. Its also possible that the Centurions were given orders to shoot the Eight found with the human resistance at the given location. Keep in mind that, unlike the TOS Centurions, RDM Centurions do not talk. They simply take orders.
* Why didn't Duck tell Tyrol that Jammer had joined the New Caprica Police?
**He may not have known until the graduation ceremony, since the members of the police force are secretive about their identities. Duck was also under great stress and may not have been thinking clearly.
**It is also entirely possible that Jammer was in a different graduating class. Standard occupation doctrine involves training individual cadres to ensure that the entire force is not compromised by one individual.
*Did Kacey fall down the stairs or was she pushed?
*As Zarek wanted nothing to do with Baltar's puppet administration, who replaced him as Vice President?
**Given the potential for further dissidence and/or rebellion, did Baltar do away with the office of the Vice Presidency altogether?
*Given Zarek's imprisonment for four months, what of Zarek's various supporters? Do they still exist on New Caprica or on the ''[[Astral Queen]]''? If so, what of them?
*Is [[Kacey]] all that [[Leoben Conoy]] claims her to be?
**There is reason to believe that Conoy's claims are not true. As evidenced in the Miniseries and "[[Flesh and Bone]]," Conoy is a master manipulator specializing in lies, half-truths, misdirection, omission and any other method he can think of to coerce people to do as he wants. Kacey could be an ordinary human. The farms were filled with male and female humans, so standard ''in vitro'' insemination is not improbable.
**The Cylon farms have had no success in procreation. Even if hybridization succeeded, it is unlikely that such a human/Cylon hybrid would be placed in such an unstable environment as they are highly valuable to the Cylons due to the astonishingly low success rate.
**[[Kacey]] seems significantly older than Hera/Isis, however, according to the [[Timeline_%28RDM%29|Timeline]] she has to be at least a month younger, if she is really Kara's daughter.
*Since Felix Gaeta is one of the top people in the Baltar administration (indeed, Baltar's staff seems to consist primarily of Felix Gaeta) and was once a Colonial officer, why does Tyrol not consider the possibility that Gaeta may be his inside source?

== Analysis ==
*Apparently a single Cylon agent copy can speak for his or her particular model<ref> The phrase "''We'' agree" is said by several models. [[Caprica-Six]] adds "most of us do, anyway", indicating that disagreement in the ranks of one model is unusual.</ref>. Interestingly, [[Caprica-Six]] fails to dissuade her "sisters" from voting to execute the dissidents.
**This consensus within the copies is done invisibly. Similar communication between Cylons of a single model has been witnessed in several prior episodes:
***In "[[The Farm]]", the copy of Simon which Kara Thrace encounters outside the facility shares the memories of the one she has recently killed, although insufficient time has passed for a resurrection of the type witnessed in "[[Downloaded]]".
***In "[[Home, Part II]]", [[Sharon Agathon|Caprica-Valerii]] reveals to Galen Tyrol that she has some of the Boomer copy's memories.
***At the start of "[[Occupation]]", the [[Cavil]] model interrogating with Saul Tigh knows of Ellen's work to free him.
**This contact is apparently strictly voluntary. According to Caprica-Sharon in "[[Home, Part I]]", "I'm not wired in. It doesn't work like that," and her presence on New Caprica is not considered a security hazard.
*As one of the Cavils notes, adherence to the Cylon creed has become increasingly perfunctory. The Cylons seek the President's signature as a mere formality.
*If [[Leoben Conoy]]'s story is true, [[Kacey]] can't be older than 16 months<ref>As of this episode, it has been about 27 months since the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|fall of the Colonies]]. Kara Thrace's incarceration at the [[Farms|Farm]] on Caprica took place about two months after the fall of the Colonies.</ref>.
*As Ellen Tigh's actions seem as reprehensible as ever, her motivations this time around are rather more laudable. These two episodes seem to indicate that she truly does care for her husband.
*Cavil informs Ellen Tigh that they released Saul Tigh so that he may continue leading the resistance, thereby ensuring attacks against the Cylons, such as the two bombings that followed his release. These bombings and their results reinforce Cavil's argument that instilling fear and exerting total control over the population is the only viable solution.
**It also might be possible that the release of Tigh might play into the faction of Cylons who continue to hold a strong prejudice towards humans. Caprica-Six and Boomer are clearly shown to be a diminishing voice amongst the Cylon leadership as evidenced when [[Number Five]] shot Caprica-Six in the head. This faction of Cylons may very well be attempting to destroy the experiment that Caprica-Six and Boommer convinced the Cylon population to undergo.
*The Cylons' condemnation to suicide bombings is strikingly hypocritical, in light of the fact that a [[Number Five]] used the same tactic after boarding ''Galactica'' in "[[Litmus]]."
*Following the bombing of the power station, the Cylon leadership conducts a meeting with Gaius Baltar on ''Colonial One''. The camera makes a full clockwise sweep, revealing in order:
**An Eight
**Boomer
**A Cavil
**A Five
**A Three
**Caprica-Six
**Another Cavil
**Another Three (identifies herself as the one killed by [[Caprica-Six]] in "[[Downloaded]]")
**A [[Simon]]
**Another Five
**Two more Sixes
*Cavil introduces the idea of "stronger measures". Assenting, in order, are the second Three, Simon, the second Five, and the last two Sixes. Caprica-Six dissents. Neither Boomer nor the other Eight are consulted. Not present are any copies of Leoben Conoy nor any of the unrevealed five models.

== Notes ==
*"[[Occupation]]/Precipice" was awarded the [[Awards and Honors|IGN.com Editor's choice award]], following a review in which it recieved a rating of 10/10.
*"Occupation" and "Precipice" were edited as one 2-hr episode with only one introduction. However, in the podcast, [[Ronald D. Moore]] indicates the "beginning" of "Precipice" as the scene with Baltar and Roslin in the detention cell.
*In the podcast, [[Ronald D. Moore]] states that references to "The Twist" and "The Swirl" are a homage to ''[[Wikipedia:Seinfeld |Seinfeld]]''. The episode in question is "[[Wikipedia:The Fusilli Jerry |The Fusilli Jerry]]."
*Felix Gaeta's given name, first revealed in "[[Final Cut]]," is spoken out loud for the first time.
*Caprica-Valerii has married Karl Agathon and taken his last name. She continues to be confined to her cell, but it has been decorated and furnished. Ironically enough, she still calls him "Helo."
*Sharon Agathon and William Adama have continued to develop the rapport which they established in "[[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]."
*[[Number Three]]'s claim that Caprica-Six's assault on her was the first case of Cylon-on-Cylon violence in their history is false. [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica Copy)|Boomer]] destroyed an [[Battle of Kobol (RDM)|entire basestar filled with other Number Eights]], and there are several other incidents throughout the series.
*Ironically, a Five shoots Caprica-Six in the head shortly after Three's statement. Cavil indicates, however, that she won't be "boxed," as Caprica feared in "[[Downloaded]]."
*The same [[Number Three]] consciousness that is killed in "[[Downloaded]]" by Caprica-Six is present as well, referencing the incident; it is this same Three who questions Six regarding her love of Baltar.
*The apparent shooting of the captives at the end of the episode is a homage to ''[[Wikipedia:The Great Escape|The Great Escape]]'' and ''[[Wikipedia:Battle of the Bulge (film)|Battle of the Bulge]]''; especially the latter as it features a survivor's escaping in a similar manner to Cally Tyrol's.
*Baltar's Internal-Six appears only after Caprica-Six is shot in the head.
*This episode has the second highest number of guest stars. Only the [[Miniseries]] had more credited stars.
*[[Lee Adama]] stated that there were about 2000 civilians that were on board Fleet ships when they escaped New Caprica, which would mean that after accounting for an unspecified number of military personnel (and an unspecified number of said personnel that were left on New Caprica), at least 5500 people were killed in the destruction of [[Cloud 9]] as well as the other ships destroyed by the nuclear warhead in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]."
*Another four humans are killed in the suicide bombing at the power substation this episode. It is unknown whether or not this figure includes the bomber. Additionally, 23 Cylons are critically wounded; 14 of them are euthanized. Almost half the city is left without power, with repair estimates standing at a minimum of two weeks.
*We finally learn the role of [[Tom Zarek]] in the Baltar administration: he was indeed Baltar's running mate, and was elected Vice President in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]". (This was implied in the last three episodes of season two, but not stated explicitly). He refused to be party to the Cylon occupation and was detained shortly thereafter, until his execution was ordered in this episode.

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==
*''Discussing suicide bombings:''
:'''Galen Tyrol''': This is crazy. You know, we need to figure out whose side we're on.
:'''Saul Tigh''': Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that.

*''After being arrested, held without charge and carted to a remote location:''
:'''Tom Zarek''': Laura.. That election last year. You tried to steal it, didn't you?
:'''Laura Roslin''': Yes, Tom. I did.
:'''Tom Zarek''': (laughs) Ah... I wish you'd gone through with it.
:'''Laura Roslin''': Me too.

*''Talking in a cell:''
:'''Cally''': ...frak you Sharon, you stupid frakked-up toaster. How many times do I have to shoot you anyway?

*''After being slapped by Roslin for accussing her of working for the Cylons:''
:'''Saul Tigh''': You see, little things like that they don't matter anymore. Fact, not too frakking much really matters anymore. I got one job here lady, and one job only. To disrupt the Cylons, make them worry about the ant hill they stirred up down here so they're distracted and out of position when the old man shows up in orbit. The bombings, they got the Cylons' attention, they really got their attention. And I am not giving that up.
:'''Laura Roslin''': We are talking about people blowing themselves up.
:'''Tigh''': You know, sometimes I think that you've got ice water in those veins. And other times, I just think that you're just a naive little school teacher. I've sent men on suicide missions in two wars now, and let me tell you something. It don't make a godsdamn bit of difference whether they're riding in a Viper or walking out onto a parade ground. In the end they're just as dead. (pauses) So, take your piety, and your moralizing, and your high-minded principles, and stick 'em somewhere safe until you're off the rock and sitting in your nice, cushy chair on Colonial One again. (stands) I've got a war to fight (leaves).

*''As the Cylons try to force Baltar to sign the execution order, following Number Five's shooting of Capirca-Six in the head:''
:'''Baltar''': Oh, God.
:'''Cavil''': She'll be back...
:'''Cavil''': ... but if he pulls that trigger now, you won't.

== Overview ==

== Summary ==

== Questions ==

**{{spoilli|According to interviews with Grace Park, Dean Stockwell, and Tricia Helfer, the remaining Cylons are so secret that even the seven models known to the audience don't know who the last five are. See the Talk article for more information.}}
**{{spoilli|According to an [http://www.aintitcool.com/node/30381 interview] with Aaron Douglas and Tamoh Penikett, the remaining five models may have all been [[Boxing|boxed]].}}

== Analysis ==
*Apparently a single Cylon agent copy can speak for his or her particular model<ref> The phrase "''We'' agree" is said by several models. The non-Caprica Six adds "Well, some of us do", indicating that disagreement in the ranks of one model is unusual.</ref>.

== Notes ==

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

Dr. '''Gaius Baltar''' is a brilliant scientist. Elegantly dressed and aesthetically handsome, with the affected humility of the truly arrogant, Baltar is a deeply flawed person and almost pathologically narcissistic. Beneath his outstanding abilities lurks a dramatic weakness of character that leads humanity to disaster.

Baltar is no longer president of the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]]. He had succeeded President [[Laura Roslin]] in an election 380 days prior to the Cylons' discovery of [[New Caprica]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). Now viewed as a traitor by the Colonials, he is left behind on [[New Caprica]] in the aftermath of the [[Battle of New Caprica]] ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

__TOC__

== Background ==

* Dr. Baltar was formerly a lead defense systems developer working for the [[Colonial Ministry of Defense]] and came to prominence as a computer technology designer, having won three [[Magnate Prize]]s.
* He networks with others well, and became personal friends with President [[Richard Adar]]. Though Baltar is extremely arrogant at times.
* Baltar becomes responsible for the design of the critical [[Command Navigation Program]] (CNP) used throughout the [[Colonial Fleet]].
* Baltar's scientific prowess seems strongest in the medical and biological fields ([[Epiphanies]]). As a result of his lesser (although still advanced) computer programming skills, he seeks the help (and as a byproduct, the affections of) a [[Caprica Six|young woman]] to aid him with the CNP.
* Baltar's two-year affair with the mysterious woman-- even to the extent of using code she herself wrote to overcome shortfalls in his CNP -- allowed her unrestricted access to some of the most sensitive systems of the Colonial defenses.
*Baltar's involvement with his blonde assistant does not stop him from dalliances with other women during this time, right up to when his assistant confronts Baltar and a lover in bed.

==Character History==
* Baltar learns that his "corporate spy" lover is in fact a new type of Cylon -- a [[Cylon agent|Cylon in human form]], able to mimic human beings down to the smallest detail, who altered his CNP with [[backdoor]]s to subvert any CNP-equipped ship.
[[image:Mini-Baltar_Six.jpg|thumb|left|300px|[[Gaius Baltar]] and [[Caprica-Six|Number Six]] kissing in the [[Miniseries]]. (C. SciFi Channel)]]
*Appalled by the fact that his sexual folly has led to the virtual holocaust of humanity, Baltar is nevertheless determined not only to survive but also avoid having his unintended treachery revealed.
* Baltar is rescued from Caprica following the forced-landing of a Colonial [[Raptor]] -- at the cost of [[Karl Agathon|one of the crew staying behind]] ([[Miniseries]])
* Baltar is plagued by visions of Number Six that only he can see and hear. He cannot be sure whether this is a result of his own guilt at his actions or whether -- as she initially claims -- she is part of a chip that has been implanted in his brain<ref name="chip">The idea that Six is an actual chip in Baltar's head was dismissed by Dr. [[Cottle]]'s image scan of Baltar's head. See [[Gaius Baltar#Speculation: The Real Baltar?|the section on alternate reasons for Six's existence]] for more.</ref>.
*Baltar is put to work trying to devise a means of detecting these humanoid Cylons. He luckily exposes [[Aaron Doral]] as a Cylon agent ([[Miniseries]]), using little more than invented [[technobabble]] to convince [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]].
*Baltar eventually develops a genuine detector. This, together with his survival of a foiled attempt to expose him as a traitor ([[Six Degrees of Separation]]), firmly establishes his credentials within the Fleet's hierarchy.
*With this new-found trust, and despite his willingness to deliberately conceal vital information, such as [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|"Boomer" Valerii's]] true status as a [[Cylon agent]] ([[Flesh and Bone]]), Baltar enters the realm of political leadership, first as the Representative for [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]] on the [[Quorum of Twelve]], and then as the newly-elected Vice President of the Colonies ([[Colonial Day]]).
* The virtual Six continues to help and hinder Baltar, gradually drawing him to a point of near-open acceptance and participation in Cylon plans and activities ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]). Whether by coincidence or design, Six manipulates Baltar through repeated threats of exposing his involvement with the destruction of the Colonies ("[[33]],", "[[Six Degrees of Separation]]"), while also appearing to aid him by giving information that [[The Hand of God (RDM)|appears insightful or inspired]] to help the Colonials.
[[image:Scattered-Baltar_Six.jpg|thumb|[[Gaius Baltar]] and [[Number Six]] seeing "the shape of things to come" in "[[Scattered]]". (C. Universal Studios)]]
*Baltar is subjected to a final revelation of his role with the Cylons (as virtual Six sees it) when "the future" is revealed to him on [[Kobol]], in the form of the first of "God's new generation of children" ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]).

[[Image:Baltarixvalleydarkness.jpg|Number Six showing Baltar the clearing filled with human bones, telling him they were from human sacrifices.|thumb]]
* While stranded on Kobol after a crash landing, Baltar's virtual Six warns him that the Colonial religion is a falsehood to cover up atrocities of their nature.
*On Kobol, Baltar shoots [[Crashdown]] in the back, killing him instantly, to save [[Cally]] from a practically suicidal and unnecessary attack on a Cylon missile battery.<ref>The act of killing Crashdown appears to have led to a dramatic change in Baltar's attitude toward hurting anyone directly. When Cally tries to blackmail him after they return from Kobol, Baltar is somewhat rough with her. When he visits Tyrol and Boomer in the brig, he does not hesitate to inject Tyrol with fatal drugs to blackmail Boomer into giving Cylon secrets. Baltar's humanitarian acts to the Six copy known as Gina also suggests Baltar's attitude in the care of Cylons is further changing. More and more, Baltar appears to prefer direct intervention and is less cowardly in his attitude.</ref>. The group are eventually rescued by the Raptors. Baltar tells the [[SAR]] team that Crashdown died a hero in the fight, and Chief Tyrol reluctantly corroborates his story ([[Fragged]]).
*Back on ''Galactica'', Cally blackmails Baltar into making it a priority to prove that Chief Tyrol is not a Cylon, as Col. Tigh suspects, or Cally would reveal the truth of Crashdown's death.
* Incensed at this ingratitude, Baltar gambles that the [[brig|jailed]] Boomer knows of the number of Cylons in the Fleet, and blackmails her into doing so, using Tyrol's life.
[[image:brainscan.jpg|Baltar recieves his brain scan from Dr. Cottle, as Six watches on in amusement.|thumb]]
*Questioning his own sanity after his virtual Six claims that he was generally crazy, Baltar has a brain scan performed in [[sickbay]] by Dr. [[Cottle]] which confirms no "foreign objects" are present in his head.
*Baltar is ready to believe that he is truly insane until he hears [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Caprica-Sharon]] discuss Valerii's pregnancy with a Cylon/Human hybrid child from his observation room. Six tells Baltar earlier that "their child" would be born in that cell, and this leads Baltar to realize that Six ''must'' be real because his subconscious couldn't have known that ([[Home, Part II]]).
*When [[D'anna Biers]] films a documentary about life aboard ''Galactica'', Six urges Baltar to give an interview to try to win people over to thinking that he should be running the Fleet. Baltar performs badly as he begins his interview but, fortunately, his interview is interrupted by a Cylon attack that Biers chooses to film instead ([[Final Cut]]).
*Baltar aids in trying to overcome the Cylon [[logic bomb]] which devastates ''Galactica's'' [[computers]]. Tigh's dislike of Baltar's involvement in this problem makes the scientist edgy enough to retort, "I'm sorry. Do you want to survive this one or not, Colonel?" ([[Flight of the Phoenix]])
[[image:baltargina.jpg|Baltar with Gina, the Cylon prisoner from ''Pegasus''.|thumb]]

*[[Helena Cain|Admiral Helena Cain]] requests that Baltar examine ''Pegasus' '' own Cylon prisoner to see what information he could glean from it. Baltar is horrified to discover the Cylon was a terribly abused and tortured copy of Number Six named "[[Gina]]". Baltar vows to help her and begins by having her restraints removed and bringing food to her ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).
*Over the course of his examination of Gina, he uncovers both her wish to die and the secret of the Cylon [[Resurrection Ship]]. He passes this information to Adama and Admiral Cain, who develop an [[Attack on the Resurrection Ship|operation to destroy it]] ([[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]).
*Baltar continues to spend time with Gina, eventually helping her escape from the brig. He tells Gina that he can hide her, and also that he loves her. Gina goes on to kill Cain and escapes from ''Pegasus'' through unexplained means([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]).

*To many, Dr. Baltar appears to exhibit more odd behavior than what may be considered the expected eccentricity of a genius. Crewmembers on ''Galactica'' find him mumbling with himself or discovering him in places they do not expect, such as aboard battlestar ''Pegasus'' to see its new commander, [[Jack Fisk]].
*Torn between the "flesh and blood" copy of the [[Number Six]] copy, Gina, the demands of his internal Number Six, and his continuing attempt to cover his own multiple duplicities, Baltar becomes more aggressive and confrontational. With President Roslin's advice to abort the Cylon-hybrid fetus of the incarcerated [[Sharon Valerii]], Baltar reacts to defend it as if it were his own child. Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]] admonishes Baltar, telling him that, on Roslin's death, he will become President and that he needs to behave like one.
*Desperate to save Valerii's fetus, Baltar reviews Dr. [[Cottle]]'s medical tests and performs experiments of his own, learning a striking revelation: the blood of the fetus can destroy cancer and repair its damage to human tissue.<ref name="stemcells">According to the writer's original planning, this was due to the presence of Cylon [[Wikipedia:stem cells|stem cells]] in the fetus's blood. This explanation was absent in the final shooting script.</ref> With Admiral Adama's permission, he injects the dying President Roslin with some of the fetal blood, which works miraculously, saving both Roslin and Valerii's child by circumstance.
*After saving Roslin's life, Baltar reads the letter given to him in the event of her death, in which she says he lacks compassion and asks him to open his heart if he becomes president. Furious, and goaded on by Six who tells him that Roslin doesn't trust him, Baltar delivers the nuclear warhead used for the Cylon detector to Gina and her militant [[Demand Peace]] movement. ([[Epiphanies]]).
*Baltar keeps his [[fumarello]] supply fresh by trading in the [[black market (organization)|black market]] through new ''Pegasus'' Commander [[Jack Fisk]]. Not realizing that Fisk had been murdered, the scientist visits Fisk's quarters, only to meet Captain [[Lee Adama]], who has starten an investigation on the black market and Fisk's murder. Baltar truthfully tells Adama that he knows nothing of Fisk's murder, but Adama correctly deduces Baltar's association with Fisk and the black market since the "Caprica Imperials" fumarellos are a known favorite of Baltar's.
*Baltar is also unaware that his involvement in the destruction of the Colonies is partially revealed. In ''Galactica's'' sickbay, Laura Roslin recalled those final days on Caprica, and remembered Baltar in the company of a woman on Caprica who she knows now is a [[Number Six|Cylon agent]].
*Baltar is summoned to ''[[Colonial One]]'', where Roslin offers him, without explanation, the chance to resign from the Vice Presidency to return to his studies. Baltar becomes immediately suspicious (and frightened) in Roslin's succinct and direct vote of no-confidence in her vice president. Realizing that the Vice Presidency now has greater importance (if nothing other than to save his own hide), Baltar turns down what Roslin calls a "one-time offer" to save himself as he saved Roslin on her deathbed ([[Black Market]]).

[[Image:Baltarlaydownburdensii.jpg|Gaius Baltar as President, from ''Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II''.|thumb]]
*Dr. Baltar decides (with no small influence from Six and [[Tom Zarek]]) to run for President in the coming Colonial Elections ([[The Captain's Hand]]).

*Roslin is declared the winner of the elections, but is caught by Adama for manipulating the tally. Baltar is declared president. While Baltar demands an investigation initially, he backs down under Adama's glare.
*President Baltar orders the Fleet to return to the marginally habitable planet [[New Caprica]] seconds after his inauguration. Baltar shows incompetency as president a few days later, when he orders the colonization of the planet rather than further investigation into the destruction of ''[[Cloud Nine]]'' and two other ships (he correctly guesses that the conflagration was started by [[Gina]]).
*During his first year in office, Baltar indulges in women, wallows in the incompentence of his administration, and is callously unsympathetic to the supply and resource problems plaguing the new colony, whose inhabitants continue to live in tents. The public, including the labor union lead by [[Galen Tyrol]], is notably displeased with his administration.
*380 days after Baltar's ascention to the presidency, a Cylon armada finds the planet after discovering the radiation cloud left by the destruction of ''[[Cloud 9]]''. This event heralds the return of the dormant virtual Number Six noting to him that "judgement day" has come at last. Copies of a [[Number Five|Five]], [[Caprica-Six]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]] meet with Baltar and his cabinet, recommending surrender; it is here that he is reunited with the Six he fell in love with on [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).
*After four months of Cylon occupation, the citizens of New Caprica despise their president. Baltar fears for his life and turns down public appearances, such as the [[New Caprica Police]] Academy graduation, to avoid assassination attempts ([[Occupation]]). It is even commented by the Cylon occupiers while discussing the notion of public executions to discourage uprising that publicly executing Baltar would be counterproductive, since the populace would cheer his death.
*Baltar is finally deposed after Admiral Adama [[Battle of New Caprica|organizes and executes a daring rescue mission]] of New Caprica's occupied inhabitants. During the exodus of those willing to leave New Caprica, Baltar happens across the dead body of [[Maya]] and the Cylon hybrid [[Hera]], and apparently stays behind with the Cylons ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

==Notes==
*There is speculation that Gaius Baltar could be a Cylon agent himself. See the [[Baltar as Cylon speculation]] article for the pros and cons of this theory.
*[[Ron Moore]] has stated in several episode commentaries that when the role of "Gaius Baltar" was originally written in the script, the writing team never intended Baltar to have a "funny" aspect, but James Callis himself decided to play up that aspect of the frantic predicaments Baltar finds himself in during the [[Miniseries]] (which although the writers never anticipated, they enjoyed, and started writing him with that in mind).
*According to "[[Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion]]", [[Edward James Olmos]] and [[Mary McDonnell]] were hand-picked for their roles, while the rest of the characters were cast by audition: among the actors in the running for the role of "Gaius Baltar" was ''Two and a Half Men''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s [[Wikipedia:Jon Cryer|Jon Cryer]], though the role ultimately went to [[James Callis]]. Callis was suggested by Angela Mancuso, who ran the studio at the time, who knew him from the ''Helen of Troy'' miniseries, in which he played Menelaus.
== Overview ==
''The battlestars ''Galactica'' and ''Pegasus'' engage in [[Attack on the Resurrection Ship|an all-out battle]] to destroy the Cylon “Resurrection” ship.''

== Summary ==

*The episode begins, like "[[Act of Contrition]]", well into the events of the story, as [[Lee Adama]] floats in a planetary body of water. He sees something approaching him—it is a Cylon [[Raider]] with a [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] in hot pursuit, and we return to reality to see Apollo floating in space in his ejection seat, followed by the title card, "48 Hours Earlier".
*[[Kara Thrace]] asks [[Lee Adama]] for backup on her mission to assassinate Admiral Cain. Lee accepts, and reassures Thrace of the importance of trust as he embraces her.
*[[Helo]] and [[Galen Tyrol]] are bound and beaten in the brig by upset ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' officers, aided again by their [[Colonial Marine Corps|marines]], until Executive officer [[Jack Fisk]] arrives to break it up.
*[[Helena Cain]] and [[Kara Thrace]] have a drink together, and Cain asks Thrace to promise not to flinch when she has to commit a "terrible sin"
*Lieutenant Adama makes a courier run to ''Galactica'', taking the opportunity to ask his father about Thrace's special mission. Adama is uninterested in discussing the issue, but young Adama is surprised to know that President Roslin is involved in the assassination plot.
*Thrace and [[Jack Fisk]] both prepare for their assassination missions, as well as the attack on the Resurrection Ship.
* Before Adama aborts his assassination plan on Cain, he solicits advice from the cooperative copy of [[Sharon Valerii]], asking her why the Cylons hate humanity as they do. She reminds him of a portion of his decommissioning speech ([[Miniseries]]), asking whether humanity has asked ''itself'' if it is deserving to survive despite its failings.
*The [[Resurrection Ship]] and two [[Basestar_(RDM)|basestars]] are destroyed by the Colonials. [[Image:Ep212battle.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Cylon basestar under assault]]
*During the battle, the [[Blackbird]] is successful in disabling the Resurrection Ship. While escaping, the Blackbird is heavily damaged. Adama is able to eject in time as the Blackbird is destroyed.
*Floating in space, Apollo's flight suit springs a leak. Dualla tries frantically to contact him, but Apollo does not respond by choice. Later he releases the last of the air in his flight suit and says, "I'm sorry, Kara", before losing consciousness just as a SAR Raptor appears in the nick of time to save him.
*Baltar's emotions turns to Gina, who is tangible and more ''human'' than his internal Number Six. He repeats to Gina a story told to him by Six about going to watch Pyramid games, finally taking her hands in his as Baltar's internal Six disappears. As Gina senses the destruction of the Resurrection Ship, she takes a sidearm from a marine she kills, with Baltar's help, and asks Baltar to kill her, noting that suicide is a sin. Baltar refuses, and gives her the sidearm, telling her she needs justice.
*[[William Adama]] and [[Helena Cain]] both speak over [[wireless]] to conspirators [[Jack Fisk]] and [[Kara Thrace]], respectively, but neither commander gives the order to assassinate the other.
*After the battle, [[Helena Cain|Admiral Cain]] is shot to death by [[Gina]] in Cain's quarters. Cain is challenging to the last, unregretful of the treatment that Gina has been given.
*At Cain's funeral, Kara Thrace speaks admiringly of her, saying the Fleet would have been safer with her than it is without her. This statement raises a stare from Commander Adama.
*Lee Adama confides to Thrace that he didn't want to survive to the mission, [[Anastasia Dualla]] stands outside Adama's quarters eavesdropping, visibly worried about young Adama.
*Battlestar ''[[Pegasus]]'' and her crew remain in the Fleet, with [[William Adama]] becoming an admiral to command both battlestars. After receiving new admiral insignia from [[Laura Roslin]], he gives her a brief but affectionate kiss, to the smiles of both.
*Laura Roslin is now visibly weakened by her fight with cancer, and her composure and strength are failing. Her end appears near.

== Questions ==
* Adama had the first opportunity to implent his "plan" on Admiral Cain. Why didn't he? Did [[Sharon Valerii]]'s earlier comments about humanity not deserving to survive have something to do with that?
::Adama's remarks to Starbuck, that it is not enough to survive, but be worthy of survival, seem to point to this.
:::Did [[Helena_Cain|Admiral Cain's]] actions (such as the cannabilism of [[Pegasus_(RDM)|Pegasus']] civilian fleet) necessarily justify her worthiness? Did [[William_Adama|Adama]] realize that he didn't have the right to make that judgement?
* Why did Cain not issue the order for Adama's execution? Was it a change of heart? Or did she suspect that her life was in jeopardy by Thrace?
* Subsequent to [[Number Six#Gina|Gina]] killing of Cain, Gina disappears from ''Pegasus'' and Colonial military imprisonment (as promised by Baltar). Where is she being hidden?
* [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] hands Gina a weapon in the ante-room of the Pegasus brig. Would a high-security area be equipped with surveillance cameras? Has Baltar disappeared as well?
* Is Lee Adama becoming depressed and unable to command his pilots?
: He lost the role to command once Admiral Cain demoted him & put him in the general roster. A better question is will he be in a proper frame of mind to fly, or become a liability?
* How will ''Pegasus'' resources be used throughout the Fleet?
* How many new Viper squadrons and pilots have been added to the Fleet?
* How will Adama deal with the mob-level brutality that appears throughout ''Pegasus''?
* How closely have the Cylons studied the memories of the 'first' Boomer aboard the Galactica, and the other spies in the fleet?
* How will Kara Thrace's comments at Cain's funeral affect her relationship with now-Admiral Adama?
* In "[[Resistance]]", Baltar forces ''Galactica'''s first Sharon into revealing that eight Cylons are still in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. However, this obviously does not take into account the introduction of ''Pegasus''. Thus, are there any more Cylon agents are aboard ''Pegasus''? If so, what do they number?
:Will these agents be far more careful in what they do, knowing that resurrection is no longer possible?
* Will another [[Blackbird]] be constructed?
* Will Adama stay aboard [[Galactica_(RDM)|Galactica]] now that he's been promoted?
:It is very likely that Adama keep ''Galactica'' as his command and flagship. Adama trusts the abilities and strengths of his battlestar and also knows the weaknesses of ''Pegasus''.
* Are there going to be any other promotions?
* Who will be CAG of ''Galactica''? [[Kara_Thrace|Starbuck]] and [[Lee_Adama|Apollo]] were assigned to [[Pegasus_(RDM)|Pegasus]] at the time Admiral Cain was assassinated.
:If [[Lee_Adama|Apollo]] recovers from his depression, he will probably resume his position as the CAG of ''Galactica'', while [[Kara_Thrace|Starbuck]] will continue as the CAG of ''Pegasus'' since she has obviously proven her worth and was chosen for the position by [[Helena_Cain|Admiral Cain]].
* What changes in the Cylon strategy will we see, now that the [[Resurrection Ship]] has been destroyed?
* What punishment, if any, will [[Helo]] and [[Galen Tyrol]] receive now that they have escaped the death sentence imposed by [[Helena_Cain|Admiral Cain]]? After all, they did murder a superior officer, even though it was an accident.

== Analysis ==
*The beating of Helo and the Chief was edited so that in the teaser, all we see is the "Sunshine Boys" entering the cell with their marines, about to tie the two up while making threatening comments. Given that they were involved in the gang rape of Gina, many viewers left the teaser fearing that far worse was going to happen to Agathon and Tyrol than simply being beaten with soap wrapped in towels.
* The basestar/battlestar battle was epic, although viewers did not see a great deal of it from a play-by-play standpoint. The pairing of an advanced battlestar such as ''Pegasus'' with the oldest battlestar, ''Galactica'', likely illustrates why the Cylons used [[CNP|sabotage]] instead of all-out war to [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|defeat the Twelve Colonies]]. With proper planning, battlestars working in tandem will shred a basestar in a close-range attack, which uses missiles and fighters, but appears to have no gun batteries itself.
*Lee Adama's collision with the downed [[Raptor]] occurred partly because Adama was looking behind him, examining the damage he dealt to the Resurrection Ship. This may be symbolic of one of Lee's character flaws—he is always looking backward, always examining what he's done instead of keeping his attention on the here and now. See "[[Water]]", where Lee agonizes over firing on the ''[[Olympic Carrier]]'' while his father warns him specifically about not second-guessing himself. This theme also parallels Cain's words—-which Starbuck echoes at her funeral—-about not flinching or second-guessing when terrible things have to be done.
* Obviously, the writers felt that the battle was less important than the events planned immediately after--the mutual attempts by Cain and Adama to kill each other. Viewers enter the battle scene at the stage where the battlestars tackle the destruction of the basestars, although there was a ruse earlier involving the entire [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. This quick segue was also likely done in light of the cost for the visual effects, since the shots of the battlestar attacks would be greatly desired by the fans, but also be new VFX and therefore expensive.
* Sharon again shows that she has the memories of the 'original' Boomer, which was previously shown in the season opener when she started to tell Starbuck of the time they met.
* A new love triangle is formed as Gaius Baltar seems more fixated on the ''notion'' of Gina and her pain rather than the feelings of his virtual Number Six, who unsuccessfully pleads him not to aid Gina in killing herself. As he takes Gina's hand, the virtual Six disappears from view in the scene. Perhaps Baltar needed to touch a "real" Six copy, and is also swayed by her "humanity"--her vulnerability and weakness, as well as her differing interpretation on how she thinks [[God]] will forgive the Colonials for the destruction of the Cylon fleet.
*Admiral Adama's affectionate kiss with [[Laura Roslin]] opens up all kinds of new story possibilities and complications for the characters and the Fleet. It might have been considered by some viewers to be the most surprising part of the whole episode since no information on this scene was noted in advance of the show's airing. As noted by RDM in the podcast commentary, the kiss was improvised by Olmos. His and McDonnell's acting continues to be exemplary.

== Notes ==

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==
*Fisk: I don't want your thanks. I owe Lieutenant Thorne my life, as do many people on this ship.
:Helo: He was trying to rape a prisoner!
:Fisk: You can't "rape" a machine, Lieutenant.

*Sharon Valerii: It's what you said at the ceremony before the attack, when Galactica was being decommissioned. You gave a speech, it sounded like it wasn't the one you prepared. You said that humanity was a flawed creation, and that people still kill one another for petty jealousy and greed. You said that humanity never asked itself why it deserved to survive…. Maybe you don't.

*Adama (to Starbuck over wireless): I've been thinking about what we talked about before. It's not enough to survive. One has to be worthy of surviving. That's all.

*Gina: Suicide is a sin. But I need to die!
:Baltar: What you need is justice. I know a place where you can stay, where you can be safe, where I can look after you.
:Gina: Why would you do that?
:Baltar: Because I love you.

*Kara Thrace: Lee. Lee, you okay? Are you okay?
:Lee Adama: No, not really. Um...I broke my word to you.
:Kara: What are you talking about?
:Lee: I let you down. I wasn't there when you needed me.
:Kara: Look, a close call like that? That'd mess with anybody's head. Alright? You know, it turns out I didn't need you anyway, so…. Let's just be glad that we both came back alive, alright?
:Lee: That's just it, Kara. I didn't want to make it back alive.

*Laura Roslin: Rumor has it that I know very little about military protocol, but I do know that someone who commands more than one ship is called an admiral. Congratulations, Admiral Adama.
:William Adama: Thank you, Madame President. Thank you, Billy. I um, never gave up hope, I just stopped trying to get these a long time ago.
:Laura: Just goes to show you, BIll. Never give up hope.
:Bill: Same goes for you, Laura.
* What changes in the Cylon strategy will we see, now that the [[Resurrection Ship]] has been destroyed?

== Analysis ==

== Notes ==

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

'''Aaron Doral''' appears to be a man in his mid-thirties. He was initially encountered aboard [[Original battlestar (RDM)|battlestar]] ''[[Galactica]]'', where he was operating as a public relations executive. Later he was active both within the fleeing Colonial fleet and on [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]]. He seems designed to network, almost to the point of being the sleazy used-car salesman type, but with a sadistic, violent side.

But Doral is a [[Humano-Cylon|Cylon infiltrator]] in reality. The Doral model's purpose is to attempt to sow the seeds of discontent or confusion, particularly during crucial life-threatening situations. Doral models endeavor to undermine authority that threatens his objectives. Doral models are more covert, assuming an ordinary "everyman" appearance that's blended in what may seem to be insignificant behind-the-scenes issues (such as converting ''Galactica'' into a museum). Of all the models thus far, the Aaron Doral model is the most militant, fanatic and consistent to the Cylon objectives, whether he is dispassionately discussing the fate of humanity with his comrades or attempting to kill or maim Colonials in a suicide bomb attack ([[Litmus]]).

__TOC__
== PR Executive Copy ==

Doral appears to be exactly what he claims when viewers first see him in the [[Mini-Series]]: a PR executive. He coordinates the ceremony surrounding ''Galactica's'' decommissioning and transfer to the civilian authorities represented by Secretary of Education [[Laura Roslin]]. During the lead-up to the ceremony, he mocks the Galactica as antiquated and advocates automated defense systems (which would be more vulnerable to Cylon interference).

In the role of PR executive, Doral is efficient, polite and able to carry out his work without ruffling the feathers of those around him, while at the same time marshalling and managing the media.

Following Gaius Baltar's arrival on ''Galactica'', Doral becomes the fall-guy Baltar needs to divert any suspicions he feels may otherwise be directed at him following the Cylon incursion into the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]]. In this, he is partially steered by [[Number Six]] - although the selection of Doral as his fall-guy appears to be Baltar's own choice by educated guess ([[Mini-Series]]).

Arrested and thrown into the brig, Doral loudly proclaims his innocence of all charges, citing his background and upbringing: that he was born in [[Oasis]], a hamlet near [[Caprica City]], and grew up on the south side of Caprica City itself before going to [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Gemenon|Gemenon]], where he studied public relations at the Kobol Colleges ([[Mini-Series]]).

Later, after being left at the [[Ragnar Anchorage]] space station, Doral exhibits all of the symptoms initially shown by Humano-Cylon [[Leoben Conoy]], confirming the fact that he is a Cylon agent and that, however "coincidentally," Baltar selected the "right" man.

Given his protestations of innocence, and the palpable level of fear he demonstrates within the brig, it is possible that this Doral copy is a "sleeper" Cylon agent. Like Sharon "[[Boomer]]" Valerii, this Doral may have been programmed to think he genuinely ''is'' human, until the radiation around Ragnar affects his [[Silica Pathways|silica pathways]], causing his Cylon identity to come to the fore.

== Suicide Bomber Copy ==
[[Image:Litmus_Doral.jpg|thumb|left|300px|[[Aaron Doral]] in his suicide bomber role aboard ''[[Galactica]]''. (Credit: Sci-Fi Channel)]]
Doral also turns up on ''Galactica'' as a suicide bomber ([[Litmus]]), using explosives he steals from a small-arms locker to create a primitive bomb he detonates in a corridor of the ship after being challenged by [[William Adama]].

At the time of the explosion, [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] suggests that Doral's intended target was [[Gaius Baltar]]. There is little direct evidence to back-up Starbuck's claim. Sergeant [[Hadrian]]'s investigation into the matter establishes that the small arms locker used by Doral is located relatively close to the flight pod (where Doral would have come aboard). Therefore, the fact that the locker and Baltar's lab resided on the same deck may have been coincidental.

Doral appears to spend some time wandering through the ship before detonating his bomb, which suggests he may have been looking for a target of opportunity, such as a command staff member or sensitive area such as [[CIC]].

== Caprican Overseer Copy ==
[[Image:Bsg-doral.jpg|thumb|Doral in his overseer role. (credit: Sci-Fi Channel)]]
On Caprica, Doral performs the role of a Cylon overseer, working with [[Number Six]] to ensure their experiment involving the stranded [[Karl C. Agathon]] and Caprica copy of [[Sharon Valerii]] either reaches its desired conclusion, or is suitably terminated ([[Litmus]], [[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]).

In this, Doral shows a harder attitude towards humans than Six. When she expresses regret that the destruction of humanity was necessary in order for the Cylons to achieve their ends, he is not so forgiving:

*Six: "This all makes me so sad."
*Doral: (matter-of-fact) "They would have destroyed themselves anyway. They deserve what they got."
*Six: "We're the children of humanity. That makes them our parents in a sense."
*Doral: "True - but parents have to die. It's the only way children come into their own."

([[Bastille Day]])

Later, however, when Six is distainful of Valerii's apparent feelings for Agathon when the Caprican experiment goes awry, Doral is more sympathetic, wondering what it must be like to be driven by passion that marks Agathon's action: "Even in his anguish he seemed....so alive" ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]).

Descore: The location of the colonies are shown in Home II

{{Twelve Colonies Series}}
Approximately 2,000 years ago, twelve of the thirteen tribes of [[Kobol]] settled on nearby worlds ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]). Their names and icons originally corresponded to the twelve signs of the western [[Wikipedia:Zodiac|Zodiac]], although these names drifted over time ([[Home, Part II]]).

The twelve colonies appear to be spread out among different star systems, as their positions are indicated on the star map of constellations revealed in the [[Tomb of Athena]] ([[Home, Part II]]). However, the semi-canonical 2003 [[Video Game]] names the home system for the Twelve Colonies as [[Cyrannus]], indicating they all orbit the same star.

[[Ronald D. Moore]] has suggested that the Colonies probably maintained some minor observatories and listening posts in outlying star systems, but it is unlikely that ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' will encounter them in the course of the series. ([http://blog.scifi.com/battlestar/archives/2005/01/index.html#a000016|RDM, January 30, 2005])

''In an early script of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica [[Mini-Series]], the Twelve Colonies were originally located on a single world - [[Kobol]]. However, this was later revised to twelve separate worlds, in keeping with the original concept.''
"15 people were killed" when President [[Adar (RDM)| Adar]], for reasons unexplained, sent the [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marines]] to Aerelon ([[Water]]).

The mining colony of [[Troy]], destroyed in a cataclysmic explosion ([[Flesh and Bone]]) is located near Aerelon, and may have been operated by natives of that world. [[Troy]] was the alleged home of [[Sharon Valerii]] ([[Flesh and Bone]]).

The pro [[Pyramid]] team from Aerelon played against the [[Caprica Buccaneers]] in one of the last games before the Cylon attack. They apparently won ([[Resistance]]).
==Caprica==
[[Image:ColonialColors3.png|thumb|100px|right|Colors and Symbol of Caprica]]

Caprica is a large blue-green planet, similar to Earth. Its largest population center is [[Caprica City]], which serves as the seat of all three branches of the Colonial [[Government]]. Caprica City is surrounded by other small towns and hamlets, such as [[Oasis]]. Thus far, Caprica is the only planet of the Twelve Colonies that viewers have seen directly. The episode opening credits show Caprica City, as well as the nuclear bombing of Caprica itself.

Other major cities included [[Delphi]], famous for the [[Delphi Museum of the Colonies]] and also home to a large spaceport. After the [[Cylon attack]], the [[Resistance (movement)|resistance]] cell led by [[Samuel Anders]] operates near Delphi.

Caprica is known for its fine Caprican cloth (which Dr. Gaius Baltar wears), [[fumarella leaf]], and art.
Gemenon is home to the Kobol College School of Public Relations ([[Mini-Series]]).
One of the last ever pro [[Pyramid]] games was held on Gemenon just prior to the [[Cylon Attack]] on the Colonies ([[Mini-Series]]).
Gemenon natives are known for their literal interpretations of the [[Sacred Scrolls]] ([[Fragged]]).

==Picon==
[[Image:ColonialColors2.png|thumb|100px|right|Colors and Symbol of Picon (tentative)]]
Picon was the location for the [[Picon Fleet Headquarters|Colonial Fleet Headquarters]] ([[Mini-Series]]), and as such came under heavy attack during the early stages of the [[Cylon Attack|Cylon attack]]. [[Adar (TNS)|President Adar]] offered a complete and unconditional surrender to the Cylons after Picon was nuked; this overture was ignored ([[Mini-Series]], [[List of Deleted Scenes (RDM)|deleted scene]]).

[[Ellen Tigh]] claimed to be at the airport on Picon, "on her way home" when the attack started, and that some unknown hero ensured she was put on the last ship to get off the planet ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]).
[[Image:ColonialColors10.png|thumb|100px|right|Colors and Symbol of Sagittaron]]
Sagittaron endured centuries of exploitation at the hands of the other Colonies ([[Bastille Day]]), so much so that even after unified Colonial rule, [[Tom Zarek]] lead an organized series of terrorist acts against the established government there. One of these acts include blowing up a government building ([[Bastille Day]]). Under Sagittarian penal law, convicted felons lose their citizenship, but have it automatically reinstated after they finish serving their sentences. This included the right to vote and to stand for election ([[Colonial Day]]).

As of "[[33]]", 5,251 natives of the planet were in the [[Fleet]].
