The '''Battle of The Colony''' is the final engagement between the [[Twelve Colonies of Kobol|humans]] of ''[[Galactica]]'' and the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] as well as the final battle of the [[Cylon Civil War]].

The Colonials begin a rescue mission, the most dangerous and daring offensive ever undertaken by Admiral [[William Adama]] and a skeleton crew, to rescue [[Hera Agathon]], kidnapped by [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] and taken to [[the Colony]] for experimentation ([[Islanded in a Stream of Stars]]).

The battle comprises of people, both rebel Cylon and human, who volunteer to stay aboard ''Galactica''. There are only perhaps several hundred human or humanoid fighters, but fortunately the Cylons also add a few hundred [[Cylon Centurion]]s to the attack and defense forces.

Racetrack and Skulls are sent on a reconnaissance mission in a [[Raptor]]. They find the Colony in orbit of a black hole and also find the only place that a ship can jump in and out safely: within a kilometer of The Colony: point-blank range for The Colony's weapons.

Admiral Adama turns over command of the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] to [[Hoshi]] while [[Romo Lampkin]] is made the new President of the Colonies (as [[Laura Roslin]] and [[Lee Adama]] choose to stay on ''Galactica'' to fight).

==Battle==

''Galactica'' jumps in directly in front of the Colony, which opens fire with its gun batteries as it's too close for missiles or nukes for both sides. ''Galactica'' takes a pounding until [[Samuel Anders]] (now effectively ''Galactica's'' [[Hybrid]]) manages to hack into the Colony and shut down its Hybrids and their weapon control.

''Galactica'' immediately launches her [[Viper (RDM)|Vipers]] to engage the Colony's Raiders while the battlestar's Raptors jump directly from the starboard [[flight pod]] in a flanking position to board the Colony. The Raptor's jumps rip open the side of the flight pod, but safely arrive at the battle.

As ''Galactica's'' gun batteries fire at the Colony's gun batteries and Raiders, Admiral Adama orders flank speed on ''Galactica'', ramming the battlestar's dense "alligator-head" bow into the Colony. The collision punchs a hole in the Colony's side, ''Galactica's'' bow effectively docked in the enemy ship. From ''Galactica's'' bow enters allows a strike force made out of marines and Rebel Centurions. Raptor strike forces led by [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]], [[Helo]] and [[Sharon Agathon|Athena]] cut their way in elsewhere on the Colony's hull.

The fight is not without serious losses. Racetrack and Skulls arm their nukes aboard their Raptor but are killed when an asteroid hits their ship, punching a hole in the window and smashing their helmets.

Inside the Colony, both strike forces push onwards despite opposition from not only modern Centurions but older [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Model 0005 Centurions]].

[[Kara Thrace]]'s forces discover Boomer, who has retrieved Hera out of sympathy and because she feels she owes Adama a favor. She hands the child over to the rescue team without a fight, warning the team that their Raptors have been destroyed and cannot be used for escape. Fortunately, the battle plan was to abandon the Raptors and return to ''Galactica'' through her bow.

After Sharon Agathon kills Sharon Valerii, Thrace's team meets up with [[Lee Adama]] and his team. All retreat to ''Galactica's'' airlock to escape the Colony.

Cavil, [[Simon]] and a [[Number Five]] go on the offensive, leading a platoon of Centurions in a boarding attack on ''Galactica''. Firefights break out all over the ship, with both sides suffering heavy casualties. [[Gaius Baltar]] and [[Caprica Six]] are among the many that help defend the ship from the boarders.

Karl Agathon is wounded by a Five. Hera runs away in the chaos. Her mother goes after her at her husband's insistence. [[Laura Roslin]], working in [[sickbay]], senses Hera's return and chases after her as well in what becomes a parallel of the [[Opera House Prophecy]], each person in turn part of a vision that protects the child from harm as she wanders through decks filled with gunfire and enemy forces. Caprica Six and Baltar eventually find Hera and take her with them to [[CIC]], recreating their movement as seen in their visions, encountering the [[Final Five]] there, standing on the CIC balcony.

Cavil is captured in CIC. During an explosion, Cavil takes Hera hostage and plans to leave with her as he sees her as the only hope for his kind. Baltar successfully talks Cavil into a truce in exchange for Hera's life. [[Saul Tigh]] sweetens the pot by offering [[Resurrection (RDM)|resurrection]] in exchange for the permanent true between humanity and Cylons. Cavil calls off his forces and the battle seems to end.

==Broken Truce==

However, the truce is short-lived. Shortly after the Final Five begin downloading their knowledge of resurrection to the enemy forces, [[Galen Tyrol]] breaks the download and kills [[Tory Foster]] when he learns that she is responsible for the [[The Ties That Bind|murder of Cally Tyrol]]. Believing themselves betrayed, the Cylons restart their attack, but after the Doral and Simon that joined him in CIC are killed, Cavil swears and kills himself. The Raiders resume attacking ''Galactica''.

In space, another asteroid strikes Racetrack's Raptor and causes her dead hand to accidentally hit the launch button for the remainder of the nuclear missiles from ''Galactica'' and ''Pegasus'' to fire. All 8 of the missiles hit the Colony, badly damaging it and knocking it out of its orbit towards the black hole nearby--and pulling ''Galactica'' with it.

Admiral Adama orders Thrace to jump the ship--[[blind jump|anywhere]]. Without the coordinates to the Fleet's location, she realizes that [[The Music|the mysterious music played by her father]] forms FTL coordinates. She enters the coordinates and ''Galactica'' escapes as the Colony is sucked into the black hole and destroyed.

==Aftermath==

The toll of battle and her structural frailty are too much for the old battlestar. As she completes the jump, ''Galactica'' suffers a series of critical structural failures, breaking her backbone and permanently losing her FTL ability.

But Thrace's coordinates take ''Galactica'' to a habitable planet, lush and filled with life. They name this planet [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] and, after retrieving the other Colonials at the rendezvous coordinates, the population of the Fleet is able to settle without concern.

The Rebel Cylons settle down with them and give the [[Rebel Basestar]] to their Centurions to find freedom and their own destiny.

The Hybrid Samuel Anders is instructed to autopilot ''Galactica'' and the last of her charge into the Sun, destroying the ships and allowing humanity and the Rebel Cylons a fresh start, sans technology.

It is not known whether the Cylons on the Colony were able to transmit any data or if any of them were able to escape before it fell into the black hole. The fate of the loyalist Cylons who were not on the Colony is likewise unclear, however, with both reproduction and the recovery of resurrection technology unlikely, their extinction is a foregone conclusion.

'''Romo Lampkin''' is a highly capable yet ethically questionable lawyer in the [[the Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. He is a [[Wikipedia:kleptomania|kleptomaniac]] with penchants for deception and psychological manipulation.

Prior to the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]], he worked in the public litigation office on [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]], where he likely met and learned from [[Joseph Adama]], a man whom he hated yet respected. His parents were kidnapped, robbed and murdered when he was nine. He was married for 10 years to [[Faye Lampkin]], with whom he had two daughters, Jennifer and Kate, and lived on [[Gemenon (RDM)|Gemenon]]. The only memento of his family is his wife's cat, [[Lance]], that he was picking up from the vet during the Fall; he claims to dislike Lance, but appreciates that at least it does not "scratch or bite like she did" ("[[The Son Also Rises]]", "[[Sine Qua Non]]").

Having survived the attack on the Colonies, he eventually settles on [[New Caprica]] and lives under the [[Cylon Occupation Authority|Cylon occupation]] ([[Crossroads, Part I]]).

Lampkin is appointed [[Gaius Baltar]]'s defense counsel after his previous lawyer, [[Alan Hughes]], is killed by a bomb planted in [[Margaret Edmondson]]'s [[Raptor]]. He claims to take the case for the fame and glory, and despite questions raised about his previous experience, appears insufferably self-confident and pompous (The Son Also Rises). Further, payment for his services is rendered in the form of a compartment on a ship with a view, which he receives (Sine Qua Non).

Lampkin becomes the next assassination target, but is only injured when the door to his room is rigged with an explosive device. Consequently, Lampkin walks with a cane after being saved by [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marine]] [[Henry Cheadle]]. A part he pocketed from Captain [[Aaron Kelly]], identical to one used in an earlier unexploded bomb, reveals Kelly is the assassin (The Son Also Rises).

When [[Didi Cassidy]], the prosecuting attorney, presents a compelling opening statement highlighting mankind's dwindling numbers, Lampkin changes Baltar's plea to "guilty". In another controversial and unusual move, he calls on Lee Adama, who joined the defense after a falling out with [[William Adama|his father]], to take the stand and testify on Baltar's behalf, gambling that Adama's testimony would be the best chance to sway the admiral's foregone verdict of guilty. Adama delivers an impassioned speech about how the Colonial Fleet and government forgave so many crimes and gave so many second chances, but not for Baltar, who is being offered up as a scapegoat for their own guilt, shame and failures. His testimony tips the tribunal's balance in favor of acquittal.

Lampkin says his goodbye to Adama after the trial and departs without his cane, walking without a limp, hinting to what extent the perceptions of both Adama and the court might have been manipulated ([[Crossroads, Part I]] & [[Crossroads, Part II|Part II]]).

After his "big win", Lampkin suffers the loss of Lance over a month later by "those debased dregs of humanity" who apparently kill the cat (possibly due to the fact that he defended Baltar in court) and is withdrawn until Lee Adama requests Lampkin's help in a search for an interim president. After eliminating a list of [[47]] candidates, including [[Doyle Franks]], Lampkin submits Lee Adama's name to the [[Quorum of Twelve (RDM)|Quorum of Twelve]] who ratify Adama's appointment, but not before testing him at gunpoint. He is given [[Jake (New Caprica)|Jake]], the dog that helped the Resistance on New Caprica, as a reward and as a new pet for him to loath as Lee Adama puts it. Lampkin says dogs are the only thing he hates more than cats, but he seems to accept Jake ([[Sine Qua Non]]).

After [[William Adama|Admiral Adama]] is taken prisoner during [[Felix Gaeta]] and [[Tom Zarek]]'s [[Gaeta's Mutiny|coup d'etat]], Lampkin is called aboard ''Galactica'' by Zarek to serve as his legal council for a [[w:drumhead court-martial|drumhead court-martial]]. Lampkin tries to get Adama to submit a testimony and stall for time while the military loyalists work to retake the ship and rescue the mutineers' hostages, but Adama refues. He convinces Lampkin instead that Zarek only brought him in to lend legitimacy to the process and intends to execute them both once Gaeta has been placated. When Adama is found "guilty" of his crimes, Zarek has marine [[Parr]] escort Lampkin away, presumably to his death, but along the way they happen upon the aftermath of [[Lee Adama]] and [[Kara Thrace]]'s rescue of the Cylon hostages. Using Thrace as a distraction, Lampkin kills Parr by repeatedly stabbing him with a fountain pen and breaks free of his bonds. He ponders fleeing for a moment, but instead helps Thrace then carry a critically wounded [[Samuel Anders]] to [[Cottle|Doc Cottle]] for medical treatment ([[Blood on the Scales]]).

In what he calls "poetic justice", he is appointed President of the Colonies before ''Galactica'' embarks on its rescue of [[Hera]]. He departs on the last Raptor off the ship to the salutes of Adama and the crew.

He, along with the last remnants of Colonial civilization, rejoins ''Galactica'' over the second, new-found Earth to settle and begin a life ([[Daybreak, Part II]]).

== Legal Practices and Ego ==

One of the best (not to mention only) legal experts in the Fleet, Romo Lampkin is known for his various quirks. Among them, Lampkin claims that interrogation rooms give him "[[w:stage fright|stage fright]]". He also channels his kleptomania to his advantage by stealing objects he believes might give him insight or handicap his opponents. For instance he steals [[Laura Roslin]]'s glasses, figuring that without them the president would appear less serious during the trial; and steals [[Gaius Baltar]]'s pen to raises suspicions that Baltar is being silenced, and to use in a ploy on [[Caprica-Six]]. Romo Lampkin typically wears a pair of sunglasses, letting him observe and read those around him without giving anything away himself ([[The Son Also Rises]]).

Further, Lampkin is not above court room theatrics, which includes faking a limp during Baltar's trial and putting [[Lee Adama]] on the stand to sway the vote of [[William Adama]] ([[Crossroads, Part I]] & [[Crossroads, Part II|Part II]]).

Lampkin also codifies a set of "Lampkin's Legal Dynamics", the first of which he reveals to [[Lee Adama]]:

The '''Battle of The Colony''' is the final engagement between the [[Twelve Colonies of Kobol|humans]] of ''[[Galactica]]'' and the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] as well as the final battle of the [[Cylon Civil War]].

The Colonials begin a rescue mission, the most dangerous and daring offensive ever undertaken by Admiral [[William Adama]] and a skeleton crew, to rescue [[Hera Agathon]], kidnapped by [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]] and taken to [[the Colony]] for experimentation ([[Islanded in a Stream of Stars]]).

The battle comprises of people, both rebel Cylon and human, who volunteer to stay aboard ''Galactica''. There are only perhaps several hundred human or humanoid fighters, but fortunately the Cylons also add a few hundred [[Cylon Centurion]]s to the attack and defense forces.

Racetrack and Skulls are sent on a reconnaissance mission in a [[Raptor]]. They find the Colony in orbit of a black hole and also find the only place that a ship can jump in and out safely: within a kilometer of The Colony: point-blank range for The Colony's weapons.

Admiral Adama turns over command of the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] to [[Hoshi]] while [[Romo Lampkin]] is made the new President of the Colonies (as [[Laura Roslin]] and [[Lee Adama]] choose to stay on ''Galactica'' to fight).

==Battle==

''Galactica'' jumps in directly in front of the Colony, which opens fire with its gun batteries as it's too close for missiles or nukes for both sides. ''Galactica'' takes a pounding until [[Samuel Anders]] (now effectively ''Galactica's'' [[Hybrid]]) manages to hack into the Colony and shut down its Hybrids and their weapon control.

''Galactica'' immediately launches her [[Viper (RDM)|Vipers]] to engage the Colony's Raiders while the battlestar's Raptors jump directly from the starboard [[flight pod]] in a flanking position to board the Colony. The Raptor's jumps rip open the side of the flight pod, but safely arrive at the battle.

As ''Galactica's'' gun batteries fire at the Colony's gun batteries and Raiders, Admiral Adama orders flank speed on ''Galactica'', ramming the battlestar's dense "alligator-head" bow into the Colony. The collision punchs a hole in the Colony's side, ''Galactica's'' bow effectively docked in the enemy ship. From ''Galactica's'' bow enters allows a strike force made out of marines and Rebel Centurions. Raptor strike forces led by [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]], [[Helo]] and [[Sharon Agathon|Athena]] cut their way in elsewhere on the Colony's hull.

The fight is not without serious losses. Racetrack and Skulls arm their nukes aboard their Raptor but are killed when an asteroid hits their ship, punching a hole in the window and smashing their helmets.

Inside the Colony, both strike forces push onwards despite opposition from not only modern Centurions but older [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Model 0005 Centurions]].

[[Kara Thrace]]'s forces discover Boomer, who has retrieved Hera out of sympathy and because she feels she owes Adama a favor. She hands the child over to the rescue team without a fight, warning the team that their Raptors have been destroyed and cannot be used for escape. Fortunately, the battle plan was to abandon the Raptors and return to ''Galactica'' through her bow.

After Sharon Agathon kills Sharon Valerii, Thrace's team meets up with [[Lee Adama]] and his team. All retreat to ''Galactica's'' airlock to escape the Colony.

Cavil, [[Simon]] and a [[Number Five]] go on the offensive, leading a platoon of Centurions in a boarding attack on ''Galactica''. Firefights break out all over the ship, with both sides suffering heavy casualties. [[Gaius Baltar]] and [[Caprica Six]] are among the many that help defend the ship from the boarders.

Karl Agathon is wounded by a Five. Hera runs away in the chaos. Her mother goes after her at her husband's insistence. [[Laura Roslin]], working in [[sickbay]], senses Hera's return and chases after her as well in what becomes a parallel of the [[Opera House Prophecy]], each person in turn part of a vision that protects the child from harm as she wanders through decks filled with gunfire and enemy forces. Caprica Six and Baltar eventually find Hera and take her with them to [[CIC]], recreating their movement as seen in their visions, encountering the [[Final Five]] there, standing on the CIC balcony.

Cavil is captured in CIC. During an explosion, Cavil takes Hera hostage and plans to leave with her as he sees her as the only hope for his kind. Baltar successfully talks Cavil into a truce in exchange for Hera's life. [[Saul Tigh]] sweetens the pot by offering [[Resurrection (RDM)|resurrection]] in exchange for the permanent true between humanity and Cylons. Cavil calls off his forces and the battle seems to end.

==Broken Truce==

However, the truce is short-lived. Shortly after the Final Five begin downloading their knowledge of resurrection to the enemy forces, [[Galen Tyrol]] breaks the download and kills [[Tory Foster]] when he learns that she is responsible for the [[The Ties That Bind|murder of Cally Tyrol]]. Believing themselves betrayed, the Cylons restart their attack, but after the Doral and Simon that joined him in CIC are killed, Cavil swears and kills himself. The Raiders resume attacking ''Galactica''.

In space, another asteroid strikes Racetrack's Raptor and causes her dead hand to accidentally hit the launch button for the remainder of the nuclear missiles from ''Galactica'' and ''Pegasus'' to fire. All 8 of the missiles hit the Colony, badly damaging it and knocking it out of its orbit towards the black hole nearby--and pulling ''Galactica'' with it.

Admiral Adama orders Thrace to jump the ship--[[blind jump|anywhere]]. Without the coordinates to the Fleet's location, she realizes that [[The Music|the mysterious music played by her father]] forms FTL coordinates. She enters the coordinates and ''Galactica'' escapes as the Colony is sucked into the black hole and destroyed.

==Aftermath==

The toll of battle and her structural frailty are too much for the old battlestar. As she completes the jump, ''Galactica'' suffers a series of critical structural failures, breaking her backbone and permanently losing her FTL ability.

But Thrace's coordinates take ''Galactica'' to a habitable planet, lush and filled with life. They name this planet [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] and, after retrieving the other Colonials at the rendezvous coordinates, the population of the Fleet is able to settle without concern.

The Rebel Cylons settle down with them and give the [[Rebel Basestar]] to their Centurions to find freedom and their own destiny.

The Hybrid Samuel Anders is instructed to autopilot ''Galactica'' and the last of her charge into the Sun, destroying the ships and allowing humanity and the Rebel Cylons a fresh start, sans technology.

It is not known whether the Cylons on the Colony were able to transmit any data or if any of them were able to escape before it fell into the black hole. The fate of the loyalist Cylons who were not on the Colony is likewise unclear, however, with both reproduction and the recovery of resurrection technology unlikely, their extinction is a foregone conclusion.

'''Jake''' is a dog on [[New Caprica]] that has a yellow bowl. The bowl serves as an indicator flag for a dead drop. When this bowl is flipped over, the [[Felix Gaeta|inside source]] within the [[Gaius Baltar|Baltar]] faux administration notifies the [[New Caprica Resistance]] of important information to be used to aid the group ([[Occupation]]).

Jake is also known to a copy of [[Number Three]], who is pleased with the fact that Jake doesn't care who is human and who is [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]] ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

Jake's involvement with the resistance is known to President [[Lee Adama]], who calls him a hero of New Caprica. As his previous owners could no longer care for the dog, Adama gifts Jake to [[Romo Lampkin]] after he discovers that Lampkin's cat, [[Lance]], died weeks prior ([[Sine Qua Non]]).

Jake is seen being walked by Lampkin aboard Galactica when Lee Adama appoints him President of the Colonies([[Daybreak, Part I]]). He presumably leaves Galactica with Lampkin and settles with him on New Earth, though Lampkin appears alone during the settlement planning.

* The dog used to portray Jake in [[Season 3 (2006-07)|Season 3]]'s [[New Caprica]] arc is a [[Wikipedia:Landseer (dog)|Landseer Newfoundland]].
