The '''memorial hallway'''<ref>{{bsgwiki term}}</ref> was created by the crew of ''[[Galactica]]'' to aid the [[The Fleet (RDM)|survivors of humanity]] to find any loved ones who may have been rescued from the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon destruction of the Colonies]] and were lucky to find themselves on one of the many ships in the battlestar's care.

Five days after the Fleet's [[Battle of Ragnar Anchorage|escape from Ragnar]], Specialist [[Socinus]] and other crew are gathering a [[Fleet registry|record of surviving colonists]] for the new [[Government of the Twelve Colonies|Colonial government]], but cannot upload photos to the database (or possibly to other ships) at that moment. When [[Anastasia Dualla]] offers her photos to Socinus, he suggests to leave the photo with his group or to place it outside in one of ''Galactica's'' hallways. Opting for the latter, Dualla encounters hundreds of photos, newspaper clippings, drawings, and other mementos of loved ones presumed lost or missing in the new Cylon war ([[33]]).<ref>It is not known how, cinematically, the wall was created, but a popular guess is that the many photos are the anonymous contributions of the show's cast and crew.</ref>

Despite the Fleet registry's completion, the memorial has remained and is periodically updated and visited by many as a personal shrine. Crewmembers can often been seen praying there, lighting candles and mourning the dead.

[[Louanne Katraine]] adds a picture of [[Reilly|Reilly's]] girlfriend to the hallway ([[Scar]]) in hopes that she will not be forgotten as quickly as the pilot. Over a year later, [[Kara Thrace]] adds Katraine's photo to the wall – below the one Kat herself placed there – after the pilot succumbs to radiation poisoning ([[The Passage]]). Following a promise made by [[Lee Adama]] to Kara Thrace prior to her death ([[Maelstrom]]), he places a photo of her on the wall, near Katraine's photo ([[The Son Also Rises]]).

In addition to the memorial hallway, the Viper pilots on ''Galactica'' have a [[Lest We Forget|special picture in their ready room]] that they touch as they exit as a memorial to other fallen comrades ([[33]]).

==Notes==
*The storyline of the [[Re-imagined Series]] was heavily influenced by the tone of the [[w:September 11, 2001|2001 terrorist attacks in New York]].
**In the early days of this event, fences and sign posts in the area around the site of the attacks were covered by pictures of missing people by the citizens to ask help in finding their loved ones. As the rescue attempts at "Ground Zero" turned into recovery efforts, these many signs became makeshift memorials. The ''Galactica'' memorial hallway was apparently intended as an poignant allegory to these tributes.
**The terrorist attacks not only influenced the series, but created delays that led to the premature demise of [[SDS|an earlier planned ''Battlestar Galactica'' continuation]] in preproduction that same year.
*Similar memorials are created after many large catastrophes in the world, such as the [[w:2004 Indian Ocean earthquake|2004 Indian Ocean tsunami]].

The timeline below chronicles the events depicted in the classic [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|Battlestar Galactica]] television program and its sequel series, [[Galactica 1980]].

Many fans, and [[Glen A. Larson]] himself, no longer recognize Galactica 1980 as part of "official" continuity. However, as an aired production, "Galactica 1980" represents at the very least an alternate continuity of the Original Series.

The timeline is given in "Earth" years, BCE <ref>BCE stands for "Before the Common Era," an updated variation of the older term "B.C." (Before Christ)</ref> and AD, not by Colonial [[yahren]].

==In the beginning.. on Kobol==

The [[Beings of Light]] who later appear to the Colonials, intervene at the beginning of human development.<ref>Adama refers to the [[Beings of Light]] as the "Mother Race" in [[War of the Gods]].</ref>

==c. 4,000 BCE==

The beginning of recorded human history, on the mother world - the planet [[Kobol]]. <ref>At the beginning of [[Saga of a Star World]], it is mentioned that the Peace Conference is being held at the beginning of the 7th millenium of human history, which would mean human history was just crossing into it's 6,000th year. 6,000 years prior to [[Saga of a Star World]], which is noted later in this timeline as happening in 1950, would be circa 4,000 BCE.</ref>

==The Exodus==

The original 13 tribes leave Kobol and head out into space. Twelve of the tribes settle near each other in the area known as the [[The Twelve Colonies (TOS)|Twelve Colonies]]. The remaining [[Thirteenth Tribe]] heads to [[Earth]].

69 BCE - 30 BCE

A partially filmed, but never aired episode of Galactica 1980 entitled "The Day That Cleopatra Died" was partially set in 30 BCE.<ref>The announcement of the cancellation of the series by ABC came during the filming of "The Day That Cleopatra Died", and the episode was never completed. This episode would have brought back the time travel plot device used in the first episode. Egyptians come up frequently in Galactica, for example there are strong allusions in the series that the [[Wikipedia:Egyptian pyramids|Great Pyramids]] constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of ancient Egypt are based on the ancient pyramids of Kobol, particularly in [[Lost Planet of the Gods]].</ref>

:The Cylon Empire has still not discovered Earth, but they have been able to locate the fleet twice, and two Cylons who accidentally crashed on Earth were narrowly stopped from revealing its location. In other words, the Cylons are about to discover Earth.

:The Galacticans are continuing their policy of gradually introducing technological change to the Earth.

:The planned but never filmed Starbuck episode "Wheel of Time" would have taken place at this time.

==1990==

In Dr. Zee's projection of what could have happened in the future, environmental damage and population expansion has rendered Paradise Valley polluted and crowded. If Dr. Zee's warning was in fact heeded by the people of Paradise Valley, however, these events may not have come to pass.<ref>Possible future revealed in [[The Super Scouts, Part II]].</ref>

==Notes==

The crux of this timeline is the claim that the series is set 30 years after the events of the classic series. This was done in large part to explain the cast changes, and is chiefly supported on screen by the aging of [[Troy (1980)|Troy]], who was a child in the first series. However, the 30 year date only appeared in promotional material and in interviews, and was not seen on screen. Alternative suppositions, where there was a much shorter gap, would help explain the paradox of the lunar landing depicted in "Hand of God" and the apparent youth of some of the characters.

A '''Battlestar Group''' is a [[Colonial Fleet]] unit lead by a [[battlestar]]. On ship crests, badges, and documents it is often abbreviated as "BSG".

Battlestar Groups are seen by [[Ronald D. Moore]] as analagous to a modern-day [[Wikipedia:Carrier battle group|Carrier Battle Group]], comprising at least one battlestar, plus a number of support vessels. Given the number of available battlestars at the outbreak of hostilities with the [[Cylon attack]], it is possible that a battlestar group may have comprised a number (3-4) battlestars operating as a single unit, supported by additional Colonial vessels.
