==''Galactica'' Copy==

On ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'', the first viewed copy of Brother Cavil provides counsel for [[Galen Tyrol|Chief Tyrol]] after Tyrol's maddened attack against [[Cally Tyrol|Cally Henderson]]. Cavil identifies the source of Tyrol's anxiety as arising from the fear that he could be a [[Humanoid Cylon|Cylon sleeper agent]]. This Cavil seems to be personally very familiar with Tyrol and is apparently aware that Henderson harbors romantic feelings for him ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]). (Later analysis of Cavil's nature, from behavior in season 3 episodes, suggests that Cavil's comments were aimed to incite torment in Tyrol.)

A somewhat eccentric figure, Cavil is a surprisingly harsh critic of prayer for a Brother, but claims to have been preaching "longer than you [[Tyrol]] have been sucking down oxygen" ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]). This interesting claim, if true, implies that the [[humanoid Cylon]]s came into existence no later than approximately ten years after the end of the [[First Cylon War]] (assuming that Tyrol is approximately 30 years old). Cavil's remark, based on aired information and his true nature, is unlikely.

Despite his cynicism, Cavil prays with [[Laura Roslin]] for her re-election to the presidency to be successful. When Tyrol deduces the Caprica copy of him as a Cylon, Cavil is thrown in the brig along with his copy. He is later ejected through an airlock along with his copy (deleted scene). Due to the loss of the [[Resurrection Ship]], his death is presumed to be final ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

==Caprica Copy==

A second copy of this model emerges from the crew of resistance members rescued by the Caprica [[SAR]] team, telling them that the Cylons had left the Colonies. What he does not tell them — until Tyrol blew his cover upon his arrival at ''Galactica'' — is that he is a Cylon.

Due to this copy's discovery, the Fleet copy is arrested as well and thrown in ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'''s brig. Laura Roslin orders them ejected into space after Caprica-Cavil informs her and Admiral Adama that the Cylons had made two mistakes: the attack on the Colonies and the pursuit of the [[the Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). Due to the loss of the Resurrection Ship, his death is presumed to be final. Though their execution is not shown, a later conversation indicates that they were executed ([[List of Deleted Scenes (RDM)#Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|deleted scene]]).

Like his Fleet counterpart, the Caprica copy also expresses doubt in the active involvement of divine forces in the real world, although he focuses his contempt on the Cylon religion. He says that "There is no [[God (RDM)|God]]", something that the Cavils have been telling the other Cylons for years, though he acknowledges that God's existence or nonexistence can't actually be proven. Based on his conversation with the Fleet copy, this viewpoint appears to be shared between at least these two copies, and possibly across the entire model.

==New Caprica Copies==

At least two copies of Cavil are present in the invasion fleet on New Caprica, as seen in "[[Occupation]]" and "[[Precipice]]." They have some authority over humans in detainment, as [[Ellen Tigh]] is able to use sexual favors to bribe another into releasing [[Saul Tigh]]. This may have been a self-serving ruse, because after a second sexual encounter, Cavil says to her of Saul, "When's his next meeting with the insurgents?" and "We know he's their leader - why do you think we let him out of detention?" Ellen replies, "I thought it was because of the 'twist'", referring to a sex act, and Cavil says, "Oh, yes, that too."

Two copies are also involved in the Cylon leaders' discussions such as whether to kill [[Gaius Baltar]].

Another copy also acts as a type of liaison between the [[New Caprica Police|NCP]] and their Cylon masters. He gives [[Jammer]] the list of Colonials to detain, and later accompanies the NCP to the site of a mass execution of Colonial Detainees ([[Occupation]]).

The NCP liaison version is critically wounded during an attack by the Resistance movement. Cavil is left with a bullet wound to the stomach and is left to die after the detainees are liberated. Cavil resorts to suicide by severing his [[w:carotid artery|carotid artery]] with a spent casing. He [[Resurrection (RDM)|downloads]] into a new body for the third time; an experience that, as he explains, is similar to having a white hot poker slammed through his skull ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

Shortly before her death, [[Ellen Tigh]] descibes the Cavil copy she seduced as the one "in charge" of the Detention Facility ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

==Basestar Command Copies==

After the Cylon fleet arrives at the [[algae planet]], a Cylon negotiation team negotiates a meeting on ''Galactica'', which consists of [[Gaius Baltar]], [[Sharon Valerii|Boomer]], a [[Number Three]], and a Cavil copy. Cavil ad-libs during the discussion, personally suggesting that the Cylons will hand over Baltar to the Colonials as part of the negotiation ("to sweeten the pot").

Later, a Cavil (likely the same one) argues that they should destroy ''Galactica'' now and be rid of them for good. He thinks it does not matter if the Cylons find [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] in five days or five thousand years, saying that they can last forever, whereas the Colonials can't. He then determines Admiral Adama's claim that he will nuke the temple is a bluff even as ''Galactica'' preps its missile launchers ([[The Eye of Jupiter]]).

Another copy greets Number Three when she resurrects on a Resurrection Ship and informs her of the decision to box her model. She replies that someday he will know the truth of the [[Final Five]] like she does just before he removes the device storing her consciousness. Other Cavils are shown boxing other Number Three's all over the room in the Resurrection Ship ([[Rapture]]).

==Analysis==
The Cavils appear to be very radical thinkers, and demonstrate a unity among the model not seen in any other. Copies appear to have a well-developed sense of sardonic humor and are given to making jokes in even the most awkward, dangerous, and heightened circumstances ("[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]", "[[Occupation]]", "[[Precipice]]"). They seem to have discovered many revelations that [[Caprica-Six]] realized through her "virtual" Baltar ([[Downloaded]]). Judging by this, the Cavil copies were probably among the first to flock to Caprica-Six's banner.

In "[[Occupation]]" and "[[Precipice]]", the Cavils are the most ''outwardly'' ruthless and cruel to humans. The Cavils are [[w:sadism|sadistic]], appearing to take pleasure (or at least a noticeable level of amusement) in their own acts of psychological and physical cruelty. The Cavils like toying with the idea of liquidating the human population on New Caprica as a solution to the Resistance, to "Perhaps a more manageable number. Say, less than a thousand."

Viewers can infer (correctly or not) from the New Caprica detention scene between a Cavil and [[Saul Tigh]] that a Cavil is significantly involved in the brutal, months-long interrogation (in response to Tigh's attacks against the Cylons). In conversation with the other Cylons, Cavils are vocal and callous proponents of harsh measures against the [[New Caprica Resistance]] and are strong advocates of mass executions.

It is ironic that the first two known copies of this apparently [[w:Atheism|atheistic]] or [[w:Agnosticism|agnostic]] model pose as lay clergy. This may be an intentional mockery of religion on their part, or a mockery of the Cavils by whomever assigned them their roles as infiltrators.

With the Cylons apparently occupying [[New Caprica]] at the end of the [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|episode]], it appears that the Cavils on ''Galactica'' are either lying about the Cylon change of heart or the Cylon plans changed after the second Cavil was captured on ''Galactica''.

In "[[Exodus, Part I]]", it is learned that at least one Cavil unit, the leader of the execution squad intercepted by the Resistance and who died there (his third death), experienced increasing head pain with each resurrection.

Humanoid Cylons have the capacity to emulate many human physical acts, including sex. They also display convincingly human personalities (affection, jealousy, sadness, anger, sense of humor, religious faith, etc.) This behavior continues even when interacting with other Cylons outside of Colonial scrutiny, clearly establishing that their personalities are genuine.

The humanoid Cylons are responsible for masterminding the complete destruction of the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]] through their use of sabotage and infiltration.

==Origins==

Following the end of the [[Cylon War]] ([[Miniseries]]), nothing was heard of the Cylons in 40 years.

During their forty years of isolation, the Cylons developed or evolved into a ''humanoid form''<ref>The idea of Cylons in humanoid form in ''Battlestar Galactica'' is not new. This concept appeared over 25 years earlier in the episode "[[The Night the Cylons Landed, Part I|The Night the Cylons Landed]]" in the short-lived spinoff of the Original Series, ''[[Galactica 1980]]''. Unlike the humanoid Cylons, however, [[Andromus]] was an [[Wikipedia:Android|android]], akin to the character of [[MemoryAlpha:Data|Data]] from ''[[MemoryAlpha:Star Trek: The Next Generation|Star Trek: The Next Generation]]''.</ref>.

The creation of the humanoid Cylon is left to speculation based on series events. While the opening credits claim that the Cylons "evolved", the concept of biological evolution (in the [[Wikipedia:Darwinism|Darwinian fashion]]) is impossible with mechanical beings. The "evolution" is obviously a planned architectural change from the mechanical to the biomechanical for the inherent Cylon design.

The first step in their evolution from pure machines to organic beings was known as the "[[First Hybrid|Hybrid]]." Other [[hybrid]]s were later created to control [[Basestar (RDM)|baseships]] ([[Razor]]). Exactly how the original Cylon, the [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005]], a sentient robot "evolved" to the humanoid form is uncertain.<ref>Information noted from the start of [[Miniseries]] (the existence of the [[Armistice Station]]) indicates that the original Cylons were not only sentient, but capable of intense emotion. [[William Adama]] confirms that the new robotic successor to the Model 0005 were built by the humanoid Cylons without sentience to avoid the possibility of the new [[Cylon Centurion]] from creating an overthrow attempt at their humanoid masters.</ref> Saul Tigh, a humanoid Cylon, has an apparent age that would place his birth (if he was born) well before the first Cylon War, and possibly even before the creation of the original mechanical Cylon. His military record documents his existence during the war. [[Number Three]]'s conversation with [[Cavil]] immediately before she was [[boxing|boxed]] indicates that the humanoid Cylons do not know who programmed them or why.<ref>The final scene of "[[Rapture]]".</ref>

Series information shows that the humanoid Cylons existed in secret for at least two years prior to the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Colonies' destruction]]. This information does not provide concrete evidence as to when the first models were created or how long they have been among the human population. [[Final Five|Some of them]] were among the human population for at least several decades prior to the war.

==Physiology and Psychology==
Humanoid Cylons are visually indistinguishable from humans, down to the cellular level, but not completely at a molecular level. Dr. [[Gaius Baltar]] is able to create a [[Cylon detector|detector]] that can distinguish Cylon from human, but rarely used the device to a positive end ([[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]).

Each humanoid Cylon has the same face, stature, hair, eye and skin color, gender, apparent age, and other biometrics as all the others of his or her model. This point technically makes each copy a twin of itself, but there are some models that choose to make cosmetic differences. Examples include [[D'Anna Biers]], [[Gina Inviere]], and a Number Six model with black hair ([[Torn]]). In addition, each copy appears to start with the same basic personality, but each personality grows more distinct due to their individual experiences.

Humanoid Cylons can be programmed as 'sleeper agents', who appear to have a low-level Cylon personality that can conduct operations while placing the human sleeper personality "on-hold." [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|"Boomer" Valerii]] was one such agent ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]). Most agent copies, particularly [[Number Five|Numbers Five]] [[Number Six|and Six]], assume a human persona but are fully aware of their true nature and behave more or less as a human "spy."

They are susceptible to the same emotional traumas and joys that their human counterparts are, further proving that personalities are a realistic part of their psyche. A case in point is a copy of Number Six, known as [[Gina Inviere]], who is physically and sexually assaulted repeatedly by the crew of ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''. These repeated assaults lead to Inviere's near-catatonic state at the time ''Pegasus'' discovers the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

Humanoid Cylons can dream, a process that appears to be natural to them<ref>A Number Three speaks casually to Doctor [[Cottle]] about her [[Dodona Selloi|prophetic dreams]] of the child [[Hera Agathon|Hera]] in "[[Exodus, Part I]]".</ref>.

Some or all Cylon female models may have the capacity to bear children seeded by human males ("[[33]]", "[[Flesh and Bone]]", "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]", "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]"). The Cylons tested numerous methods of sexual reproduction, yet these failed due to a known flaw in their design. Humanoid Cylons cannot reproduce with each other biologically, so in an attempt to subvert this deficiency, they try to interbreed with humans, creating hybrid offspring. "[[Farms]]" were set up across all the occupied Colonies where survivors, specifically, young fertile women of child-bearing age, were rounded up, placed under heavy sedation and turned into "baby machines" through artificial insemination<ref>Ron Moore said there are presumably also farms for male humans, plus ''in vitro'' experiment labs, etc.</ref>. However, this methods have been unsuccessful thus far. Another drastically different approach is taken by attempting to conceive a child through a bond of love. To most of the characters it seems that [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] and [[Sharon Agathon|Athena]]'s love-child, [[Hera Agathon|Hera]] is the lone success story of the relatively short history of Cylon sexual reproduction ([[The Farm]]), with the hybrid nature of [[Galen Tyrol]]'s child [[Nicholas Tyrol]] unknown to anyone but the four recently revealed members of the Final Five.

The bodies of humanoid Cylons sometimes appear to have tremendous stamina and strength, and appear to be designed to destroy or resist commonly dangerous human diseases<ref>The blood from [[Hera Agathon|Hera]]'s fetus destroys the cancer within [[Laura Roslin]]'s body in "[[Epiphanies]]".</ref>, although they are not immune from all contagions<ref>An infection ravages the Cylons in the episode, "[[Torn]]".</ref>. ==Cybernetic Behavior==

Upon the death of its body, a humanoid Cylon's consciousness is automatically transferred into another copy of itself. This "[[Resurrection (RDM)|resurrection]]" is limited by signal integrity and proximity to the Cylon homeworld or a [[Resurrection Ship]] ([[Miniseries]], "[[Flesh and Bone]]", "[[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]").

It appears that all humanoid Cylons share a ''collective knowledge base'' of data from other active or deactivated humanoid Cylons, regardless of their model.<ref>A collective knowledge base works more like an internet chat forum, or even a wiki, which differs from the concept of the collective consciousness as seen in SciFi species such as the Borg in ''Star Trek.'' Writers of the show have indicated this type of "hive mind" is ''not'' employed. Many Cylons are seen describing or detailing events that one of the models experienced but did not participate, such as [[Sharon Agathon|Caprica-Valerii's]] description of meeting Kara Thrace for the first time--a memory physically experienced not by that Number Eight copy, but [[Sharon Valerii|"Boomer" Valerii]], in "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]". When under duress, "Boomer" Valerii is able to tell [[Gaius Baltar]] the number of remaining humanoid Cylons in the Fleet. Their psychology is based on what they simply refer to as "[[projection]]". Essentially an enhanced form of a self-induced and controlled hallucination, projection is how they choose to see the world around them, in any form they wish, whenever they wish. For example, if a Cylon were standing in a hallway, they could choose to see it as a forest filled with birds, trees, and sunlight. This mode of visualization is pleasing to humanoid Cylons ([[Torn]])<ref>[[Gaius Baltar]]'s dreamlike interactions with his [[Virtual beings|virtual Number Six]] is strikingly similar to Cylon projection. See the article, [[Baltar as Cylon speculation]] for more on this issue.</ref>.

Although they cannot do so remotely or wirelessly, humanoid Cylons can interface with a [[Computers in the Re-imagined Series|computer system]] or computer network by photo-electrical means. They can perform this through subdermal physical contact if required ([[Flight of the Phoenix]]) or, preferably, through a [[Cylon data port]]<ref>[[Sharon Agathon]] steals back the Fleet's [[launch key]]s by infiltrating a Cylon base by using a Cylon data port. Humanoid Cylons are seen operating a basestar in the episode "[[Torn]]" by touching an optical pad that illuminates these arm interfaces.</ref>. This might be possible through the use of bio-luminescent and photosensitive cells in their hands.

The presence of a water-like fluid as an integral part of the basestar, the ability to interface photo-electronically through subdermal and dermal contact, and the fact that humanoid Cylon are anatomically indistinguishable from human beings, implies that the techniques used in their creation are advanced enough to incorporate cybernetic functions into their design without the use of specific internal structures other than human-like organs.

After being "stared at" by a [[Raider (RDM)|Cylon Raider]], [[Samuel Anders]]'s right eye briefly flashes red, the Raider responds to this apparent [[IFF]] procedure by flying away, and a Cylon fleet attacking the Colonials retreats ([[He That Believeth In Me]]).

== Known Cylon Models ==

There are twelve models of humanoid Cylons ([[Miniseries]]), representing twelve personality archetypes that the Cylons have witnessed in humanity. These can be divided into two separate groups, the "Significant Seven"<ref name="sign7">{{cite_rdm_podcast|episode=Frak Party Q and A|act=|id=Sig7|timestamp=19:14|totalrunning=78:27}}</ref> and the "Final Five".
According to show producers, the two groups are "fundamentally different." Material above only applies to the Significant Seven. The religion, origin, physiology and cybernetic properties of the Final Five remain largely unrevealed.

The twelve models have numerical designations, however only four of these have been revealed so far. With the exceptions of Three and Six, most models are referred to by their "human names", even by other Cylons. There appears to be no significance to any of the specific numbers assigned to the different Cylons.<ref>On [http://blog.scifi.com/battlestar/ Ronald D. Moore's blog on Scifi.com], he stated that "Number Six was specifically a homage to 'The Prisoner,' but the rest [of the humanoid Cylons] were assigned their numbers randomly."</ref>

Seven models revealed to the viewers as Cylons have also been revealed to the central Colonial characters within the first two seasons. There are many copies of each model, although the specific number of copies per model has not been specified.

First seen posing as a reporter from the [[Fleet News Service]], this model is revealed to be a Cylon at the end of "[[Final Cut]]" when a second copy is shown living on Caprica. Threes seem to be the most calculating and duplicitous models shown to-date, even manipulating and deceiving other models if they feel warranted. The copy that tried to [[Boxed|box]] Sharon Valerii exhibited these characteristics strongly in the episode, "[[Downloaded]]".

This model's status as a Cylon is unknown to the Colonials until either shortly after the rescue of the surviving members of the [[Caprica Resistance]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]), or after the Cylon occupation of [[New Caprica]] ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]].)

After the Threes defy other Cylon models in their attempt to discern the identity of the [[Final Five|five missing Cylon humanoids]], the other Cylons conclude that the Three model has an inherent flaw that threatens their overall reliability. After the failure on the [[algae planet]] to gather information on the path to [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]], the Cylons have all Number Three models [[boxing|boxed]] indefinitely.

This model attempts to sow the seeds of discontent or confusion, particularly during crucial life-threatening situations, and endeavors to undermine authority that threatens his objectives ([[Miniseries]]). Number Five models are more covert, assuming an ordinary "everyman" appearance that's blended in what may seem to be insignificant behind-the-scenes issues (such as converting ''Galactica'' into a museum). Of all the models thus far, the Number Five models are the most militant, fanatic and consistent in message and objectives to the Cylon objectives, whether he is dispassionately discussing the fate of humanity with his comrades or attempting to kill or maim Colonials in a suicide bomb attack ([[Litmus]]).

Viewers first meet a Number Five during a tour of ''Galactica'' with other Colonial citizens (possibly the press) at the start of the Miniseries, but are not sure of the Cylon's true identity until the Miniseries' conclusion.

This is the first humanoid Cylon model shown to viewers at the start of the [[Miniseries]].

Stunningly beautiful, promiscuous and sensual, this model utilizes the human need and desire for sexual relations to her advantage. She tends to be very religious and monotheistic. Number 6 desires to know what it is to be alive. There is something inherently enigmatic about her, more so than with the other models. Sixes have been described as "usually so hardcore", referring to their tendencies towards violence.

Copies of this model have appeared under the aliases "[[Shelly Godfrey]]", "[[Gina Inviere]]", and "[[Caprica-Six|Caprica]]" (in honor of her work on Caprica towards the destruction of the Colonies). A [[Virtual Six]], whom only [[Gaius Baltar]] can see is a mainstay of the cast, and is clearly the dominant party in their "relationship".

Number Eight is generally a saboteur designed to infiltrate Colonial military units and is likely programmed to use any Colonial munitions to cause havoc ([[Water]]). The Number Eight model is the closest witnessed humanoid Cylon model to show its abilities as a soldier. This model has shown naiveté in many matters. She is apparently not as religious as other Cylon models, but has demonstrated that she can love, and is capable of being impregnated by a human ("[[Six Degrees of Separation]]", "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]").

She may be "defective", as the Cylon programming within the sleeper agent known as "Boomer" on ''Galactica'' conflicts multiple times with its human personality ([[Water]]). Also, the fully aware Sharon Valerii found by [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] on Caprica switches alliances from Cylon to Colonial after falling in love with Helo and aids the Colonials [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|for a time]] (several episodes, most notably "[[Flight of the Phoenix]]"). Number Eight is the third humanoid Cylon introduced during the [[Miniseries]]. However, viewers do not discover her true identity until the very end of the Miniseries when a second copy of Sharon Valerii appears at [[Ragnar Anchorage]] while retrieving an abandoned copy of Number Five.

A copy of this model has appeared under the name "[[Sharon Valerii|Sharon "Boomer" Valerii]]." One copy, [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon "Athena" Agathon]], has defected from the Cylon and has joined the Colonial Fleet, generally replacing her "Boomer" counterpart as a [[Raptor]] pilot.

Leoben Conoy (model number unknown) is the fourth model seen by viewers (although viewers would not know until the end of the [[Miniseries]] that they had already seen the third introduced humanoid Cylon, Sharon Valerii). The Conoy model has shown to be mystically oriented--making references to the oneness of the universe, the illusion of time, etc.--and claims to be prescient on some level, albeit with a known propensity for intermixing truth with falsehoods. He is first discovered on [[Ragnar Station]], claiming to be a scavenger and arms dealer ([[Miniseries]]).

The Conoy models also appear obsessed with matters of mating, bonding, and reproduction, as demonstrated by a particular model's fascination and obsession with [[Kara Thrace]] ("[[Flesh and Bone]]", "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]", "[[Occupation]]", "[[Precipice]]" and "[[Exodus, Part II]]").

Conoy can be likened to the serpent of the [[w:Genesis|Genesis]] tale in the Earth [[w:Bible|Christian Bible]], taunting people with knowledge, then watching as the negative consequences come into devastating fruition. Leoben copies have likely been encountered by the [[Caprica Resistance]], as [[Samuel Anders]] recites in jest some comments made by another Leoben copy captured in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] ("[[Flesh and Bone]]", "[[The Farm]]").

The Simon model (model number unknown) is first encountered by [[Kara Thrace]] on Cylon-occupied [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]]. Posing as a doctor, this Simon is actually involved with the Cylon hybridization program. Simon resembles a tall, somewhat thin middle-aged black man who speaks in a comforting strong voice ([[The Farm]]) Unlike other models, Simon does not seem to have many military aspects to his physical or mental configuration, and is easily overcome by a wounded Thrace. Simon may be a model based primarily on human intellectualism and logic<ref>A Simon expresses the moral dilemmas of rescuing a crippled basestar as having no scientific answer in "[[Torn]]".</ref>. It is unknown if a Simon model infiltrated the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] prior to the occupation of [[New Caprica]]. In any case, the model is now known to the general populace, many humans likely saw a Simon model during the occupation.

Cavil models do not appear to subscribe to overall theology of the Cylons, but adhere to group consensus, and often are persuasive leaders. Cavils have displayed a condescending attitude toward the beliefs of the other six known Cylons at times.

In several instances, the Cavils advocate dark, draconian solutions to the insurgency on [[New Caprica]] that reveal a militant zeal equaling that of Numbers Three and Five.

The identities of the remaining five Cylon models remained a mystery long after the revelation of the identities of the "Significant Seven".

In "[[Torn]]", [[Caprica-Six]] mentions to [[Gaius Baltar]] that the Cylons do not talk about the missing five humanoid Cylons. In the same episode, Baltar confirms that, during his time with the Cylons on occupied New Caprica and on a basestar, he only saw the first seven models. It is later revealed that the Significant seven themselves do not know (or have repressed) the identities of these final five models.

In "[[Crossroads, Part II]]" four major characters discover they are Cylons: [[Galen Tyrol]], [[Saul Tigh]], [[Samuel Anders]] and [[Tory Foster]]. They were previously unaware of their nature, and this information is limited only to themselves. While shocked by their discovery, they all remain loyal to humanity.<ref>Ron Moore noted in his podcasts and interviews that these characters are "fundamentally different" Cylons, where much of what was defined as a humanoid Cylon may not apply to these models.</ref>

Conceived by the Eight believed to be [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon Valerii]] and [[Karl Agathon|Helo]], the infant [[Hera Agathon]] is the first known human/Cylon hybrid<ref>These beings should not be confused with the living computer of a [[Basestar (RDM)|basestar]], also called a [[Hybrid]].</ref>.

[[Gaius Baltar]]'s internal [[Number Six]] regularly insists that Hera is actually the child of herself and Baltar, though there is no physical reason yet presented to justify that claim.

For some time Hera was hidden away from both humans and Cylons, and believed to be dead by her parents. President [[Laura Roslin]] had the baby hidden with [[Maya]] as her adoptive parent. Despite Roslin's attempts to protect the child on [[New Caprica]], Hera is later found by the Cylons ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

After Hera's mother discovers that her daughter is alive, she uses her ability to [[Resurrection (RDM)|download]] to transport to the Cylon ships, and manages to convince [[Caprica-Six]] to return the child to ''Galactica'' for medical treatment for a possible intestinal blockage, which the Cylon doctors, lacking pediatric knowledge, were unable to comprehend ([[Rapture]]).

A child, [[Kacey]], is presented by a Conoy model to [[Kara Thrace]] as an hybrid offspring purportedly created with their genetic material in the episode "[[Occupation]]". The Cylons' ruse is revealed when Kacey's human mother later claims the child ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

He [[Crossroads, Part II|recently became aware]] of his [[Humanoid Cylon|true nature]] as one of the [[Cylon]] "[[Final Five]]", and suspects that his wife might be a Cylon, too.

==Biography==

Allegedly born on [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Picon|Picon]], Anders attended [[Noyce Elementary School]]. Sometime during his life, he later became a player on the [[Caprica Buccaneers]]. During the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies]], he was leading his team in high-altitude training in the mountains outside of [[Delphi]], where he and his team were able to survive the massive nuclear attack.

Being in a high-altitude rural area shielded Anders and his team from the blasts and most of the radioactive fallout that followed. He and the Buccaneers become ''ad hoc'' resistance fighters from that point forward, raiding armories and collecting caches of weapons, [[anti-radiation medication]], ammo and supplies in the hopes of staying alive and defending themselves against the Cylons.

Anders was able to rally upwards of 100 people, mostly hikers and survivalists, to his resistance against the Cylons and from the former [[Delphi Union High School]] he was able to strike back at the Cylons for nine months. Unlike [[Karl Agathon|Helo]], the Caprica-based (and pregnant) [[Sharon Agathon|Sharon Valerii]], and [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]], Anders seems to be focused more on surviving on Caprica than he is with leaving the planet.

Anders and his resistance members encounter Starbuck and Helo two months after the initial Cylon attack ([[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]).

Anders' main focus for a time is keeping himself and his resistance movement alive long enough for Kara Thrace to return to Caprica once again with reinforcements from ''Galactica'' and evacuate them. Thrace gives him her [[Identification tags|Fleet ID tags]] as a promise that she would come back for him. While waiting for rescue, Anders plans to locate and destroy as many Cylon hybrid-producing "farms" as possible ([[The Farm]]).

Anders and the resistance movement conduct acts of terrorism against the Cylons after they appropriate Delphi for their own. His aim was to scare the Cylons into believing there is no safe place for them and to kill them in the most gruesome way possible so they remember when they are reborn what it is like to die violently, like in an explosion ([[Downloaded]]).

Following the Cylon's reappropriation of Delphi, Anders and his fighters continue their insurgency, and carry out a series of attacks on the Cylons, the most notable of which was the destruction of a café which kill roughly 40 Cylons. After planting the bomb in a garage, Anders is trapped with the bomb after defending it from a Centurion. Hiding behind a car on the other side of the garage, Anders is mostly protected from the blast but buried under rubble. Later found by [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]] and [[Number Three]]. Anders is spared, as he would be a useful source of information. When [[Caprica-Six]] talks about genocide and God's love, Anders uses the opening to try and kill Number Three, but is stopped by Boomer. Three is more than willing to take revenge, but all were astonished when Caprica-Six kills Three. Heeding Six's orders to get out, Anders flees, still puzzled by what had transpired ([[Downloaded]]).

Anders survives an assault by the Cylons at the resistance's headquarters -- the same morning that the Caprica [[SAR]] team lands nearby. The Cylons assaulted the remnants of the Resistance as they head for the Raptors ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]), forcing them to go to higher ground. After the Cylons stop attacking them, Thrace (leading the rescue team) fears the worst. Anders and Thrace promise to kill each other so that the Cylons would be unable to put them in one of their [[farms]]. Miraculously, a [[Cavil|mysterious man]] appears to tell the team that the Cylons had left the Colonies.

Thrace and Anders' relationship picks up where it left off, forcing a rift to occur between Thrace and Lee Adama.

A year later, now married to Thrace on [[New Caprica]], Anders develops [[Wikipedia:pneumonia|pneumonia]], forcing Thrace to beg Lee Adama to release some [[antibiotics]] reserved for ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''' pilots.

After the Cylons occupy New Caprica, Anders is visited by a copy of [[Leoben Conoy]] who inquires on Kara Thrace's whereabouts ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). Since the Cylons had forced ''Pegasus'' and the defense fleet away from New Caprica, the antibiotics are no longer avaliable to help Anders.

Anders recovers from his sickness and is a leader of the [[New Caprica Resistance]], along with [[Saul Tigh]] and [[Galen Tyrol]]. Thrace was taken from him sometime after the occupation, and he is unsure if she is still alive ([[Occupation]]).

Four months into the occupation, contact is made with a Raptor and a rescue plan is put in motion. Anders meets ''Galactica'''s liaison officer [[Sharon Agathon]] in [[Breeders Canyon]], and the group is ambushed by Cylon Centurions ([[Precipice]]).

After the Centurions are neutralized, a map is found on a dead [[Humanoid Cylon|'skinjob']]. Anders realizes that the map is the one given to [[Ellen Tigh]] to destroy in a heating fire. Tigh is then suspected of collaborating with the Cylons.

Later, Anders is charged by Laura Roslin with protecting [[Maya]] and the Cylon-human hybrid baby [[Hera Agathon|Hera]] ([[Exodus, Part I]]).

Anders then tells [[Saul Tigh]] about his [[Ellen Tigh|wife]]'s betrayal. He tells Tigh that if he doesn't "take care" of the problem, someone else will. After ''Galactica'' jumps into orbit, Anders and a group of resistance fighters set off multiple bombs around New Caprica City. They then retrieve a cache of weapons hidden under the Pyramid court in order storm the [[New Caprica Detention Center]] and free the humans imprisoned within. Inside the detention center, Anders and a team of Marines find an unconscious Kara Thrace in her apartment style prison cell. Anders begins to carry Thrace out of the center but is interrupted after Thrace regains consciousness and runs back to retrieve her daughter, [[Kacey]]. Anders finds Thrace and Kacey back at the apartment, and leads both out of the detention center ([[Exodus, Part II]]).

Shortly following the Fleet's abandonment of New Caprica, Anders is brought into the [[The Circle|Circle]], a secret council assembled by President [[Tom Zarek]] for the purpose of judging and executing those who had collaborated with the Cylons during the occupation. Anders soon becomes uncomfortable with the Circle's actions and leaves the group. Thrace accepts the Circle's invitation to replace Anders, an act her husband sees as a personal betrayal. He hands back Thrace's ID tag, saying he doesn't want it anymore. Thrace and Anders are still husband and wife, but the combination of Thrace's joining the Circle and her feelings for Lee Adama has heavily strains their marriage. He eventually moves off ''Galactica'' to the ''[[Salpica]]'' ([[Unfinished Business (Extended Version)]]), which limits their contact to occasional visits per shuttle or participation in critical missions ("[[The Eye of Jupiter]]", "[[Rapture]]").

The death of his wife ([[Maelstrom]]) weighs heavily on Anders. Two weeks later he is found drunk on the hangar deck, standing atop of a Viper and playing with a [[cubit]]. When Lee Adama is tries to get Anders to come down, he slips, falls and breaks one of his legs. Later, Anders joins Adama at the [[memorial wall]] where Adama has put up Kara Thrace's picture ([[The Son Also Rises]]). Shortly after this, Anders decides to follow in his wife's footsteps by obtaining a commission and joining the Fleet as a [[nugget|pilot trainee]] ([[Crossroads, Part I]]), initially flying Raptors before transitioning to Vipers.

Not long after he begins a relationship with [[Tory Foster]], he realizes that the pair of them are experiencing [[The Music|hearing something unusual]]. Later on, he discovers that Tyrol hears the strange sounds as well, but does not get the opportunity to discuss it with him. When Anders, along with Tyrol, Foster and Saul Tigh find themselves drawn to a room shortly after the Fleet arrives at the [[Ionian nebula]], they instinctively realized that they are four of the [[Final Five]] Cylons. However, both he and Tigh agree that their lives up until that point were not in vain, and the four wordlessly agree to continue their allegiance to the Colonies ([[Crossroads, Part II]]).

He participates in the [[Battle of the Ionian Nebula]], finding himself face to face with a Cylon [[Raider (RDM)|Raider]] that he fails to destroy because his weapon safeties are enabled. The fortuitous act results in the Raider scanning Anders, whose eye flickers red. The Raider apparently determines that he is a Cylon and it is likely due to this that the Cylons abruptly abort their attack on the Fleet ([[He That Believeth In Me]]).

*"Ander" is derived from a Greek term meaning "Man" (a well known example would be that "Anderson" means "Son of Andrew/Andreas/etc", the name being a descendant of Greek andreios ‘manly’, from aner ‘man’, ‘male’, genitive andros). Fitting, given that Anders is leading the last free humans alive on Caprica in a resistance against the Cylons: it's literally a fight of "Man" versus Machines. The revelation of Anders as a Cylon makes this ironic.

*The tattoo that Anders has on his right arm in Season 3 is his "wedding band". He got it after he married [[Kara Thrace]], who also has a similar tattoo, but it is on her left arm. They match up to form one set of wings and the circles overlap when they're facing each other. Both of them have half of the constellation of Capricorn (a reference to [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] obviously) and a small symbol of the planet as well.

Several months before the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|attack]] on the Twelve Colonies, while in the employment of Integral Systems Engineering, she presented the retrofit of ''Pegasus'' to the [[Ministry of Defense]] and worked out the details of the [[CNP]] upgrade with Admiral [[Helena Cain|Cain]]. During that time, the two grow close and eventually start having a relationship. They try to be discreet in front of the crew, but don't make it a secret either.

Working alongside [[Kendra Shaw]] on ''Pegasus'', Inviere manages to gain the officer's trust and use of her personal access codes.

Shortly after the attack on the Colonies, Inviere is instrumental in finding a Cylon communications relay. During the [[Battle of the Communications Relay|ensuing battle]], she helps a boarding party of [[Cylon Centurion|Centurions]] gain access to the ship, which leads to many casualties.

When Shaw encounters another Six, she realizes that Inviere is a Cylon and unmasks her in [[CIC]]. Before being knocked unconscious and taken into custody, Inviere kills two Marines but hesitates to kill Cain, suggesting her feelings for Cain were genuine.

With the destruction of mankind's homeworlds and Inviere's personal betrayal and manipulation fresh in mind, Admiral Cain quickly suppresses her feelings for Inviere, and no longer treats her as a human being, but a thing. She orders Lieutenant [[Alastair Thorne|Thorne]] to interrogate Inviere and to employ "degradation, fear, [and] shame" while being as creative as he needs to be. Thorne employs whippings and gang rape in his torture sessions, but ultimately fails to gain any intelligence ([[Razor]]).

When ''Pegasus'' encounters ''[[Galactica]]'' and her [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]], Inviere is examined by Dr. [[Gaius Baltar]]. He is heartbroken by her state, and resolves to help her in any way he can. He convinces Admiral [[Helena Cain]] to permit her to be fed, and recounts to Inviere a story of his love for her copy on Caprica, before the Cylon attack ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]).

Inviere, speaking for the first time in many months, reveals her awareness of her true nature<ref>Inviere's behavior in "[[Razor]]" indicates that she is not a "sleeper" agent like [[Sharon Valerii]].</ref> and her mission as a soldier. She begs Baltar to kill her and put an ultimate end to her suffering. When Baltar reminds her that she would just be resurrected in another Number Six body somewhere else, Inviere reveals to him that it won't happen if the unknown Cylon ship that ''Pegasus'' is tracking is destroyed.

She calls the vessel a [[Resurrection Ship]], and that it was used to collect the consciousnesses of Cylons who die too far away from the [[Cylon homeworld]] and download them into new bodies. With no Resurrection Ship to download her consciousness, Inviere would truly die if she were killed ([[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]).

When she senses that the Resurrection Ship is destroyed, Inviere begs Baltar to kill her. She is incapable of killing herself, because within the [[Cylon religion]], suicide is a sin. However, Baltar convinces Inviere that she should go on living and get "justice" for what happened to her. With Baltar's help, Inviere escapes from her cell, makes her way to Cain's quarters and shoots Cain with a pistol, killing her. She then somehow manages to escape ''Pegasus'' ([[Resurrection Ship, Part II]]).<ref>As did [[Shelly Godfrey]], Inviere knows how to navigate through a battlestar without being detected, including escaping from one, since Godfrey also disappears from ''Galactica'' ([[Six Degrees of Separation]]). It is possible that Baltar helped her escape, but this is [[Battlestar Wiki:Fanwanking|fanwanking]].</ref>

As [[Laura Roslin]] finds herself on her death bed, [[Demand Peace]] — a movement seeking peace with the Cylons — summons Baltar to ''[[Cloud Nine]]''. Here, Inviere assumes a leading role within the peace movement, her followers unaware of her Cylon nature. She disguises herself by means of glasses and a different hairstyle. Inviere attempts to convince Baltar that, upon assuming the presidency, he should go up against Adama -- and thus solidify the distrust of the military within the Fleet.

Because of the extreme sexual abuse she suffers on ''Pegasus'', and atypical of her model, Inviere abhors intimate contact of any kind, as observed when she bites Baltar when he instinctively tries to kiss her. After Roslin recovers from her cancer -- thanks to Baltar's perceived unappreciated efforts -- Inviere is given the nuclear warhead earmarked for Baltar's research as part of his [[Cylon detector]] ([[Epiphanies]]).

Following Baltar's election as president of the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]], he visits Inviere once more aboard ''Cloud Nine'', attempting to explain to her that because of his new duties he'd be unable to see as much of her as they'd like. After he remarks that he'd make what time he could on [[New Caprica]], she tells him that she wouldn't be leaving the ship to join the new colony. Angry, Baltar attempts to leave the room, but Inviere simply says "stay," while proceeding to undress, choking back her physical aversion in a desperate attempt to make him stay with her. They share an intimate interlude.

While Baltar is being sworn in as president, Inviere sits naked on the floor of her room in front of the nuclear warhead. The timer running, The Cylon once known as Gina Inviere cries softly as the device detonates, blowing up herself, ''Cloud Nine'' and several ships in the vicinity ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]).

With the [[Resurrection Ship]] destroyed, the death of Inviere is presumed final.<ref>The notion of the permanence of Inviere's death is reinforced by the testimony of a [[Number Five]] copy, indicating that [[New Caprica]] was uncovered by the Cylons by accident when they arrived one year after Inviere's death. If Inviere's consciousness was transmitted to a second Resurrection Ship, she might have disclosed the location of the Fleet sooner.</ref>
