Whoa, Cowboy!
Hey there! That List of Former Star Trek Cast and Crew article is pretty darn detailed, but the Concision Fairy thinks it would be best not to list every single thing that many of the prolific cast and crew have done for that show. It makes reading the article very difficult, and, as you know, there's another wiki for that sort of thing, so the article has gone off from Battlestar Wiki's need-to-know. The Fairy truncated Ron Moore's and Michael Taylor's entries, but the article could be shorter, or maybe, cite more of their most popular work that illustrates each writer or director's quality work. I convinced the Fairy not to bring out the double-bladed tree ax, asking her to wait until you or others made the finer concision so the article maintains its quality (the Fairy is not a neat fairy -- she's watched too many episodes of The Sopranos and enjoys all that whacking.). :) --Spencerian 11:18, 15 July 2007 (CDT)

Jonathan Harris (born Jonathan Charasuchin on November 6, 1914, died November 3, 2002) was an American actor.

Harris is known by Original Series enthusiasts as the actor who provided the voice of Lucifer, the IL-series Cylon. He may be best known as the villainous Dr. Zachary Smith in the TV series Lost in Space.

Born in the Bronx, New York, the son of Jewish emigrés from Russia, Harris first worked in a pharmacy, and later earned a pharmacology degree at Fordham University. Changing careers to pursue acting, he changed his name and learned to speak without a strong Bronx accent. In 1938, he married Gertrude Bergman.

Harris first appeared on Broadway with Heart of a City in 1942, and went on to perform over 100 plays. His first appearance on television was in 1948, which was then a live media, and he went on to make his film debut in Botany Bay in 1953.

Harris returned to TV, appearing in one of his most recognizable roles on The Third Man as Harry Lime's manservant.

In 1965, he first appeared in Lost in Space in the role of Dr. Zachary Smith. Although Smith was originally cast as a one-shot character, after a stellar introductory appearance, he was made a recurring member of the cast. Smith's relationship with the show's robot is particularly memorable as are his endless putdowns of the machine with such phrases as "You bubble-headed booby!" That Harris would later portray a robot in Battlestar Galactica is an obvious irony.

Harris reprised his role as Dr. Smith in the one-hour TV special Lost in Space Forever in 1998. However, unlike his costars in the original show, he declined to make a cameo appearance in the motion picture version of Lost in Space that was released later that year.

Although occasionally called upon for cameos and guest shots as villains (usually of the Dr. Smith type) Harris spent most of the remainder of his career as a voice actor, appearing in TV commercials as well as animated television and features.

Harris passed away on November 3, 2002 at the age of 87, in Encino, California. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude, and their son, Richard.

Notes
* Harris is the only Lost in Space cast member to appear in the Original Series. However, Anne Lockhart, daughter of Harris' Lost in Space co-star June Lockhart, later came to join the series as Lieutenant Sheba.

Lorne Chain Greene (February 12 1915—September 11 1987) was a Canadian actor best known for playing signature roles on the television shows Bonanza and the original Battlestar Galactica.

Early Life
Lorne Greene was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada to immigrant parents. He was the second child born to Daniel and Dora Greene, though sadly his older brother died in infancy. He went to high school at Lisgar Collegiate Institute and while there was cast in the play Les Deux Sourds as one of the deaf characters that shouts throughout the play.

He attended Queen’s College in Kingston Ontario as a chemical engineering major, though his growing love for acting caused him to eventually change his major to free his time for drama projects. The college had no drama department, only a drama guild which Greene was highly active in. He graduated in 1937 and moved to New York City to continue honing his craft.

"The Voice of Canada"
After a short stint in the Royal Canadian Air Force, Greene returned to Canada and, due to a lack of acting jobs, found a job as a radio announcer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), due to his deep, booming voice. He was notably the only Canadian to ever win NBC’s top radio broadcasting award. During World War II, he was given two nicknames: "The Voice of Canada" due to his popularity and recognizable voice, and also "The Voice of Doom", because of his voice and the bad news from the front that he delivered through the radio.

Television fame and Bonanza
Greene moved back to New York in 1953 to continue his acting career, and landed several roles on Broadway before breaking into films with 1954’s The Silver Chalice.

He appeared in movies and television shows throughout the 1950s. An appearance on the television show Wagon Train caught the attention of the producer of a show called Bonanza. His performance in Wagon Train and his subsequent performance as Big Brother in a CBS production of Nineteen Eighty-Four resulted in his being offered the part of Ben Cartwright, a part which became his most recognizable role. The show ran from 1959-1973.

Beyond Bonanza
After Bonanza, Greene appeared in several television programs, most notably as Commander Adama in the original Battlestar Galactica and its short-lived spinoff series, Galactica 1980. Greene became popular for his Alpo dog food commercials. Always an animal lover, he was vice chairman of the American Wild Horse Association and honorary chairman of the Wildlife Federation. He wrote a book titled The Lorne Greene Book of Remarkable Animals and was the host of a television show titled Lorne Greene’s New Wilderness.

He also was the host of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade from 1963-1972. Additionally he helped create and promote Propaganda, a game that teaches players how to analyze the soundness of statements made by politicians and pitchmen of every stripe.

In 1985 Greene was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Death
Greene died in 1987 after a bout of pneumonia and was buried at Hillside Memorial Park in Culver City, California. He was survived by his wife, Nancy Deale, and three children: Gillian, and twins Belinda and Charles.
Graduating from Eton University (despite a near-expulsion due to his involvement in a gambling ring), Macnee began his career as an extra in the 1938 film, Pygmalion (starring the film's star and director, Leslie Howard). World War II interrupted his acting career as he served in the Royal Navy, after which Macnee entered into a drama school for additional training in Britain.

Macnee landed additional minor and extra roles in some of the first televised movies in the latter 1940s, including Wuthering Heights, Macbeth, Othello and Scrooge. Seeking more substantial roles, Macnee left to see work in Canada and the neighboring United States.

Macnee became more successful from his experience on the North American continent, and returned for a time to Britain to produce a television series on the noted figure Winston Churchill.

Returning to America (later becoming an American citizen in 1959) for roles in what were to become classic 1950s television programs such as The Twilight Zone, Playhouse 90 and Rawhide, Macnee landed the leading role that would define him as an icon with the coming of the "secret agent" spy genre: the character of John Steed, the derby-wearing, umbrella-carrying secret agent in the British TV series The Avengers. Steed became the focus of the show after the first season, playing opposite a series of female partners such as Honor Blackman, Diana Rigg, and Linda Thorson. Macnee lent his costume designing skills to the series as well. The character of Steed was also the central character of a revival, The New Avengers, in the 1970s.

During and after the immediate success of The Avengers, Macnee has successfully used his talents and his Avengers status in minor and supporting roles in many American feature films and television shows of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, including Matt Helm (an American take on the spy genre), Night Gallery, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, Hotel and Frasier.

Macnee portrayed the mysterious Iblis in the Original Series two-part episode "War of the Gods," and also lent his voice talents to the opening narration of the series, which began with "Life here...began out there." Macnee would also co-star in other Glen A. Larson series, including the short-lived NightMan and Larson's most successful series to-date, Magnum P.I..

Macnee's voice talents also appeared in a 1998 film revival of The Avengers, not as John Steed, but in a cameo role.

Macnee has been married to Baba Majos de Nagyzsenye, his third wife, since 1988. He has two children, Rupert and Jenny, by his first marriage to Barbara Douglas (from 1942 to 1956). His second wife (1965-1969) was actress Kate Woodville. The notable British television magician David Nixon was his cousin.
