The speculation of the final humanoid Cylon is definitely a hot topic for Season 4, so I'd imagine this page will be getting a decent bit of traffic. In light of that, I think in it's current state it's pretty lacking, considering the fact that, if the EW bit is to be believed, only one of the characters listed on this page could be the final Cylon. I know that article was dismissed a bit earlier in this discussion, but I think that was done a bit too hastily, particularly after Ron Moore's additional comments in his interview with Mo Ryan in the Chicago Tribune and the fact that, say what you want about RDM not being there to personally "direct" the picture or what not, Leonardo's The Last Supper features 13 people and BSG's last supper only features 12, despite BSG having, well, an abundance of cast to go around. Anyhow, I'm not saying we even have to remove the characters in the picture, but there's definetely room for a lot more speculation. -- ColonelKevin 22:45, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
To <s>quote</s> paraphrase Bill Pullman from ID4... "Let's nuke the bastard."
To offer a different perspective from ColonelKevin's point, I think this article really needs to be airlocked and approached in a completely different light. I've really felt this way from the get go, but my feelings are reinforced by the fact that this is the last and final season, and the article will then enter a state of total and complete obsolescence, particularly from an "out of universe perspective".

What I am proposing is that the article be written to detail "in universe" Cylon speculation and how they've dealt with the threat of Cylons looking human. I'm looking at documenting the overall human reaction to this, which would include things like Sesha Abinell's conspiracy theories, the Colonials attempts at a Cylon detector, the Fleet leadership's concerns about releasing the information before "Litmus", etc. Thoughts? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate - Battlestar Pegasus 23:34, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
:::Seems like a good idea. From what I can infer, most, if not all, of the in-universe early-S4 speculation will be on Starbuck, so we might need to decide where we draw the lines between this article, Kara Thrace and The Destiny. OTW 00:09, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

:I agree somewhat. We know that many people love this speculation and the survey also shows that some people expect it here. But IMHO, it's just inane and verges on the annoying. There are so many fan theories floating around out there, it's flat out impossible to reflect even a good part of it. The problem is also, that what started out as interesting and grounded speculation, has deteriorated into complete bullshit by now, also due to the introduction of the Final Five. Especially with the latter, we can't really know which criteria even imply for potential cylonicity. In that regard, I've always felt that this wiki is a place for fact, analysis and some well-founded speculation here and there; and that complete speculation - like this - is a matter for forums. There are dozens of forums with endless threads of Final Five speculation, so why does this have to be rehashed on a wiki?
:That said, the article has finally approached a state where it's readable and worthy of the wiki, by excising most of the specious speculation and concentrating on a few likely characters. However, as Joe said, its validity in light of the upcoming revelations - and also the uncertain basis for the arguments - is somewhat questionable. -- Serenity 06:58, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
::While I do think it's possible to do a speculation page properly, there's no doubt that it's a huge task to produce one that's relatively grounded and well sourced, particularly considering how just about anyone could be the final cylon. It's hard to say if such a task is really worth the effort. If I had to chose between leaving the page as it is now or nuking it, I'd definetely say nuke it. Maybe take the best bits (the comment from Bradley Thompson and the Hybird prophecy, maybe the last supper picture, none of the speculation) and just place it on the section for the Final Cylon on the Humanoid Cylon article? -- ColonelKevin 16:50, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Question on a recurring extra
In early Season One, there was a large Asian pilot with tattoos that appeared at a card game. As far as I remember, he disappeared after that. Then he reappeared during the partying scenes in Scar. And now he's back in a major way in Season Three, appearing in most scenes involving lots of pilots. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the man, and was wondering if there's any actual information on him. Does he have a name? And will he ever get a line? Thanks for your time. == Harvey Frand ==

What is this guy's job exactly? He doesn't seem to be directly involved in the creative side of the show. Is he more of an administrative producer? Making sure the logistics work, sets are built, actors hired, etc. I'm not saying that that's not important, just curious :) --Serenity 07:20, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

::Without Harvey Frand, Galactica would not be nearly as spectacular as it is. He keeps everything on time and on budget, makes sure the scripts can be done with the resources available, finds the most efficient way to allot those resources -- and when something is necessary to make the story work -- yet is financially impossible to do, he finds a way. Harvey is the man who literally makes the show happen in the real world, which calls for tremendous creativity and risk-taking. He's the guy on Maelstrom who pointed out that we had an eight page day to shoot on location in Socrata's apartment -- and a location day can make at best six pages. It was impossible to do, even with overtime, given what we'd accomplished in seasons previous.

::As David Weddle was trying to cut those scenes down to something we could shoot, he realized that doing so would gut their emotional impact. He brought this to the attention of Michael Nankin, who agreed - we needed all eight pages. We went to Harvey with the problem and swore that everything would go right, that the guest star would know her lines, that Michael could cut some corners on coverage to be able to make the day. If anything fell apart (camera failure, safety issue, botched lines... anything like that and we'd be hosed. We couldn't stay late. (You can't keep the trucks on the street after a certain hour in that section of Vancouver or you're busted, fined and can never shoot there again.) Not only that, but the rest of the schedule would be thrown out of whack and it wouldn't just be these critical scenes that would be unfinished... would there be budget left to do the spectacular end of the season? Or even the humungous dogfight at the end of Maelstrom? Harvey had a tough call to make.

::Harvey rolled the hard six. And Dorothy had her lines down cold. And Katee was perfect. Nothing broke. And we got out of there with less than seconds to spare.

::That's just one of the calls Harvey has to make every day. He's frakking awesome. - Ngarenn 18:52, 20 March 2007 (CDT)
Billing and Contracts
The Son Also Rises rose some questions about how billing works on Galactica. With the exception of Katee Sackhoff's departure, the main credits have remained constant, while the secondary credits for Guest Stars has been more more fluid. However, there've been some constants. Michael Hogan, Aaron Douglas, and Tahmoh Penikett were always the top dogs of the non-main cast, and, with the exception of the rare episode where one of their characters didn't appear, they always appeared in that order.

However, things seem to be changing. Ever since Cally became a prominent character in Season Two, Nicki Clyne has been slowly rising in the ranks of the Guest Stars. At first, she was just getting away with supplanting Alessandro Juliano and Kandyse McClure, but now she has actually broken into the top three, as she was credited before Penikett in the last episode.

I was wondering, what determines billing? I assume it's contractual, as Michael Hogan is always top billed, even in the few episodes he doesn't have any lines. So has Clyne negotiated a new contract that puts her higher in the credits?

Also, I noticed that Sebastian Spense cracked the Guest Stars in The Son Also Rises. Not to speak ill of Narcho, but why has he gotten up to the front of the episode? Did he get a better contract? What makes someone only worthy of getting their credit at the end of the episode? Is Brody Olmos less able to commit to a contract, and that's why he hasn't cracked the Guest Stars?

Sorry I've asked so much. Really, I just want to know how people get their names in the secondary credits, and why certain reliable, long time characters are stuck at the end of the episode. Alpha5099 15:46, 13 March 2007 (CDT)

::That's a really good question and I don't have an answer. It is indeed contractual and that's all handled by business affairs, who tend to be a tight-lipped bunch, and rightly so. - Ngarenn 18:22, 20 March 2007 (CDT)
Maelstrom Viper Mark VII
In the excellent fighter scenes in the episode Maelstrom, Apollo consistantly flies a different version of the Mk VII Viper than we've seen before. I was wondering if some light could be shed on what it was, since the changes were fairly substantial, such as one of the "home-made" Vipers from Pegasus, a modified regular Mk VII, or just a retro-active design change? --Talos 23:34, 14 March 2007 (CDT)
::Galactica's ships are in a constant state of change. The latest episode, "Crossroads, Part I", did not have an intro movie (time constraints?), nor did it show a survivor count. I personally don't care much about the intro movie (since we get back actual episode content), but there are a lot of die-hard fans here eager to know the survivor count. == Number of Season Four episodes ==

I realize this was only just announced, and you may not know or be able to comment, but there seems to be confusion over what exactly the 22 episode season order entails. Alongside this announcement, there is confirmation of the made for TV movie, which Sci-Fi is describing as "a special two-hour extended episode." The thing that people are unsure of is whether the movie counts toward the 22 episode count. Will the movie count as two episodes, and then Season Four proper will be the standard 20 episode? Alpha5099 17:39, 22 March 2007 (CDT)
Faster-Than-Light Stuff
Hi there. We know that Ron Moore's goal for the show, as stated in his Naturalistic science fiction essay, was not to use incredulous science for the show, for instance, faster-than-light travel. We have a little debate if that applied to faster-than-light communications. Several instances appeared where Cylon downloading and communications may move faster than light. We understand that "FTL" travel is apparent-FTL through the wormhole theory, but has there been a change to how writers handle, say, communications between Cylons at long range (like between one basestar to the infected one in "Torn"). Did Boomer's consciousness go to a Resurrection Ship and then to Caprica, or traveled farther, relayed, or some other process? If you like, you can see the extended debate in the Talk:Faster-than-light communication article to note our confusion. If true-FTL does not exist anywhere in the Re-imagined universe, we'll just tack it up to a continuity error that, I feel at least, is for cinematic purposes so a story doesn't get all overly technical or complicated. Thanks. --Spencerian 18:07, 23 March 2007 (CDT)
:Let me ask me more precise question: how do the Cylons manage to appear at the Fleet's previous position less than 12 hours after it jumped away? The Fleet must be making multi-lightyear jumps, since their destination (the Ionian nebula) is thousands of lightyears away. Does the radiation signature from the Daru Mozu travel faster than light? The radiation signature from the Cloud 9 blast did travel at lightspeed. Do the Cylons have some other way of tracking the Fleet? Or is it simply a continuity error? --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 03:48, 25 March 2007 (CDT)
Identity of the Final Five
Out of curosity, how long have you guys known who the final five are? I know Ron Moore's made comments that indicate that these were more recent decisions, but I was just curious at what point did you guys decide on who were going to be Cylons, and what really went into that decision. == Production numbers ==
There is a question about the actual production numbers behind the series. For instance, there is some information on the internet where the production numbers differ. For instance, some are formatted like ("T2701") -- an alleged production number for "Occupation" -- while others are formatted as 03001 (or even 301). Just wanted to know what exactly the actual "production number" should look like.
: I believe that the T27nn numbers are internal Warner Bros. numbers for the Comcast tapes that they made and fed to Comcast. I believe the 030nn numbers correspond to the production office assignments to the episodes, i.e., where 03019 is the production number for 'Crossroads, Part 2'. == Cylon numbers ==

Although we've been flooded with Cylon identities lately (we now know 11 of the 12 models), we still know only four numbers (Three, Five, Six and Eight). Could you enlighten us as to the numbers of the other seven known Cylons? If you can't tell us that, can you at least tell us whether these numbers will be revealed in Season Four? It would also be interesting to know if the one remaining Cylon is indeed Number One, as we suspected. Thanks in advance. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 11:24, 29 March 2007 (CDT)
::They've also shot at Athena, though in neither case have they hit the target Cylon. :::::To be fair that's actually quite the assumption; the Significant Seven don't know who programmed them, so I don't think it's a stretch to consider that they don't know who did the base program of the Centurions either. There's enough to go either way with it, so I think the question given here is a valid one. ColonelKevin 15:54, 10 April 2007 (CDT)
Adama/Tigh Meeting
Hello, Mr. Thompson. Given the recent revelations about Tigh a lot of people have become interested on when he met Adama, but when we look back we have 2 conflicting sources. So I was wondering if you could maybe tell us which is considered to be the real one? Without revealing anything of course.

Now, we saw them meet in the flashbacks in “Scattered”, which are mentioned in the podcast to be 20 years before the miniseries, and this also seems to fit with how they look and such.

However, in “Torn” Adama says he has known Tigh for 30 years, and though admittedly it’s now technically 22-23 years after their official meeting, “30” is still a long way. It’s quite possible that Adama was dramatizing for the purpose of connecting to Tigh, but either way it creates doubt.

So my question was, is the timeline we were originally presented the official one or is it different? --Sauron18 16:18, 8 April 2007 (CDT)

Number of Season Four episodes
We should get rid of the main picture - we don't know for sure that they are in fact the Final Five, they may be simply a hallucation on the part of D'eanna when she resurrects/is boxed.
Or perhaps the five temple priests who are not Cylons. Point is, we don't know --lordmutt 06:26, 10 January 2007 (CST)
:Writer's often portray canon information through a character, in this case D'Anna. That is the same vision she always has when she dies, we've already seen a part of the scene on "Hero", and it's what she's been seeing again and again. Her sketches and such are merely her representations of what she saw, this picture is what she actually saw. Anyways, even if you choose to not believe D'Anna, and even if you doubt the only logical explanation, I think David Eick confirmed that it's them she sees on a EW article. --Sauron18 15:53, 10 January 2007 (CST)
Looking at the high resolution picture, I can identify most of the actors in these robes. Whether they actually are the Final Five Cylons or whether this is just a dream sequence and they grabbed whoever was convenient is not clear. From the left to the right:

# Aaron Douglas, better known as Chief Tyrol. The stature and facial features are a perfect match.
# Tahmoh Penikett, better known as Helo. This isn't as certain, but the lower face and stature both match.
# Unidentified female
# Unidentified female
# The big, bald Asian pilot who's always in the rec room.
:Personally I think the show would be smart to not put all of their eggs in one basket on this whole final five thing. At least one of the five should be someone we've never seen, one should be someone who is alive and in the fleet and at least one should be someone who was in the fleet that has been dead for a while. Making all of the five sleepers who are in the fleet or making them all dead characters or all new characters wouldn't be very cool. Making it a balance between the three would be nice. --Meteor 19 January 2007.
I hate to repeat what's been stated, but I think Philwelch is looking way too hard because I see no one - and I mean no one familar in that image. Not even a vague similarity. I'm certain they're just stand-ins, but I find it odd that they'd release an image that shows so much, but also expect us not to see a match when the five are revealed. You'd figure they'd put more effort in hiding the faces, just to cover the bases. --Mars 08:43, 22 January 2007 (CST)
Interpretation question
After thinking about this, there are only two individuals that believe that what D'anna/Three has seen is actually images of the final five Cylons: herself, and Baltar. The Colonials scripture know that the Temple of Five was human-built, long before the Cylons existed, and was related to five priests who may have worshiped someone different from the Lords of Kobol. There's plenty of inference (with Kara Thrace, Leoben, Dodona Selloi, and the Threes) that there is a connection between the Lords of Kobol and the Cylon God. My problem is that, while the notion that the final five Cylons has been established, there isn't information between the characters that verifies that what Three has seen are actual Cylon or human figures.

For that reason, I am going to rewrite this article with a level of neutrality that does not support only Three's belief since there is Colonial connections that exist. The final five represent five human priestly people (blessed, cursed or otherwise cited) or five Cylons (boxed, or related somehow to the origin of the new Cylon, which, after "Rapture," is not clear-cut. --Spencerian 08:31, 27 January 2007 (CST)
Three wasn't the Only One
I think we should also mention that Number Three wasn't the only Cylon to believe they were the Final Five. The Cavils believed it well enough to try to shoot her and even box her. So I think we should at least mention that they too believed Three was seeing the Final Five, enough to essentially eliminate 1/3 of their known female population. --Sauron18 14:00, 27 January 2007 (CST)
The light that shines down as the Nova goes is real, and D'anna starts bleeding and dies for no other apparent reason. If it's an illusion in her mind, these things don't match.--Bradtem 21:22, 1 February 2007 (CST)

::The podcast supports the assumption that Three saw the actual Final Five, although I don't think it's explicitly stated. As for the device in the temple, there's quite a few possible explanations and I doubt we'll ever get a definitive answer about which one is correct. The device could've triggered both Three's death and the visions directly, the device could've triggered Three's death, resulting in a vision just like her previous deaths did or the device could've triggered the visions, resulting in Three's death due to some hypothetical built-in failsafe in Three. Each of those three possibilities also has a number of explanations (for example, if the device caused the visions, it may have been a technological substitute for chamalla, it may have been designed to unlock repressed memories or in may have been programmed with the images of the Final Five at any time in the past 4000 years). -- Gordon Ecker 02:17, 2 February 2007 (CST)
::: It seems that projection would be a likely technology behind a vision seen only by here. Why a 4,000 year old temple would be able to do that is nor more a mystery than why it would be able to insert a vision any other way. Further reflection shows this image to possibly be different from the image in the Temple of Athena, which was more holodeck like, and seen by all.--Bradtem 13:47, 2 February 2007 (CST)

It gives me around 60-70% sure, that this char is one of Final Five. Yet there are two other things - first - it's possible, that director didn't thought of that, and put this actor there to "fill the gap".

Second - as I've searched through characteristic of this one, I haven't even found slight connections to Cylon, and it would mess with storyline pretty badly.
::XLII your idea was a good one, but there's a flaw in your comparison. As you darken the image of the actor, that face overtakes the face of the Final Five. The jawlines match up, which makes it look like it's the same person, but watch the chin and the upper lip (and the 5 o'clock shadow) in pics 1&2 and 4&5. What if the final five aren't cylons at all, but in fact are part of the priesthood. The whole question "what defines a Cylon" opened by the writers had me thinking... the final five aren't "final" they are the "first" five. They are neither Cylon, nor human and possibly are some related faction to the 13th tribe whom were left behind to fulfull and manipulate things behind the scenes. I do not like the idea of certain main characters being cylons and I believe that this will be the only way to mitigate that unplesant "revelation". I've been pushing hard on the crossroads' talk pages that the final five aren't necessarily cylons and that Tigh certainly is not. --Baltarstar 22:23, 24 March 2007 (CDT)
:I agree with the idea that they are NOT Cylons but for different reasons. The first problem is the aging/immortality issue since it has been established that the current batch of cylons will live forever (as long as they are not boxed and are in range of a Ressurection Ship or the Cylon Homeworld). My thought is that the main characters who think they are cylons are NOT but rather descendants of the one or more copies of one or more of the models of the Final Five (thus fufulling RDM's promise of "bluring the line between Human and Cylon"). But we will soon see... Mishakal 22:30, 24 March 2007 (CDT)

Agreed, I actually was trying to clarify that. I think the final five are actually priests, five priests who continue the tradition of prophecies. Remember, Tyrol's father was a priest AND his mom was an Oracle. HE found the Eye. And finally, and this bugs me, people seem to ignore or overlook the fact that the Cylon Biers had stepped into the Eye's chamber when it was meant for a HUMAN to. SHE saw the final five and had explained that she had made a mistake and apologized. Now... I assume those five priests are the "final five" so-called cylons. But why am I the only person who gets that the other seven models do not KNOW who or WHAT the final five truly are? --Baltarstar 23:02, 24 March 2007 (CDT)
D'Anna's Apology
Right now this article lists Saul Tigh as being the leading suspect of who D'Anna saw, but I'm not sure if this information should really be included; it's complete speculation on one hand, and on the other... I'm not sure that it really holds merit. Certainly Tigh has endured the most of all the final five at the hands of the Cylon, but D'Anna never really had much involvement with him; on the other hand, she attacked and nearly killed Anders in Downloaded. He would seem to me a more likely suspect of who she saw and felt compelled to apologize to. At the very least, my speculation is no more off bat then the theory that it's Tigh, and that really calls for some change here. === Teaser ===

* William Adama reviews Kara Thrace's service record file, which includes various disciplinary notices, commendations, and citations.
* Meanwhile, on Colonial One, Laura Roslin presides over a drawing of ship captains who will comprise of the five judges of Gaius Baltar's tribunal. Tory Foster picks up a folded card from the bowl, handing it to Roslin. It reads: Captain Elias Meeker, Gideon.
* Adama happens upon more records, including a commendation for bravery regarding her actions in recovering the civilians from Caprica.
* Foster draws out one last name from the bowl. When Roslin opens it, she initially begins to read the card aloud, but stops herself as she reads the name, clearly shocked.
* As Adama continues to slowly run through the jacket, he happens across a self-made birthday card she made for him. The cover reads: "You were always like a father to me...". Upon opening the card, he sees a picture of Thrace, who is wearing his glasses and has a hand-drawn mushdache. Above the picture are the words: "See the resemblance?"; below: "Happy birthday, <u>young</u> <u>man</u>" signing it with "much love, Kara". This elicits a laugh from Adama, who begins to tear up and sniffle.
* On the flight deck, a grieving and inebriated Samuel Anders stands on top of a Viper, who is tossing a coined-cubit, calling "heads" correctly for the fourth time in a row. Watching him are Anthony Figurski, Hamish McCall and Margaret Edmondson.
* In the memorial hallway, Lee Adama stands in front of the section containing Kat's picture. He thumbs with a photo of Thrace, keeping it close to his belly, then pocketing it as he hears the sound of Racetrack's footsteps. Edmondson then gets his attention by calling Adama by his rank.
* Still standing above the cockpit of the Viper, Anders holds out the cubit, saying that his "girl is too lucky to check out". Adama and Edmondson approach; Adama joins Anders on top of the Viper and attempts to talk him down. Emotionally distraught, he initially sits down, then jumps up, saying he has somewhere to go, but he doesn't complete his words as he slips and falls from the Viper. Adama climbs down from the Viper as some of the spectators begin to cluster near the fallen Anders, who says "I think I fell".
* As Adama checks Anders over for injuries, Anders asks him: "She's still alive, right?" Adama replies in the negative, which Anders tearfully claims he knows.
* In CIC, Colonel Saul Tigh tells Adama he's been selected as one of the five ship captains that form Baltar's tribunal.
* On the hangar deck, Racetrack complains about having to fly Baltar's lawyer back and forth from the Zephyr, saying he whispers into her ear and takes his shoes off on board.
* Skulls wonders why Baltar is even given a trial while he's obviously guilty, to which Cally replies it's justice.
* An explosive charge detonates aboard the Raptor. Racetrack walks out unharmed, but Baltar's lawyer is dead.

Act 1
*A press conference on Baltar's fate on Colonial One asks questions about the trial, a lawyer replacement, and other matters. Roslin stands firm against any terrorist acts affecting the trial.
*In the pilot ready room, the mood is also somber. Major Adama is making mistakes and distracted. A reconnaissance operation is planned.
*After a joke, Adama says "Starbuck" and not "Racetrack" after the Raptor pilot makes a joke to Sharon Agathon about checking under her seat, and an overwhelming awkwardness settles within the room. Adama dismisses the group hurriedly.
*Roslin interviews the new attorney, Romo Lampkin with Admiral Adama present. Lampkin abruptly introduces the Fleet leaders to his cat, who is in a foul mood.
*Adama asks his son to aid with attorney's affairs. When the younger Adama objects to being grounded as CAG and indicating that he's "okay", the admiral tells him that he knows that his son isn't okay because the admiral himself is also still in grief over Thrace's death.
*Lampkin is given his quarters and asks to see Baltar. Lampkin wants to choose a room that is unlikely to be wired for surveillance. He tells Major Adama that he was a student of his grandfather, Joseph Adama.
*The scene shifts to see someone's hands preparing explosive charges.

Act 2
*Baltar, in a bulletproof vest, is escorted by marines to his attorney in Major Adama's quarters. The major is present under client confidentiality.
*Baltar is agitated as he writes more quick notes for his manifesto. He knows that the tribunal will use Caprica Six against him.
*When Lampkin asks to be taken to Colonial One, Adama objects. When he insults Adama, the major reacts violently, his stress over the events of the last two weeks coming forth briefly.
*Adama manages to convince Captain Aaron Kelly to fly the Raptor with Athena and Lampkin aboard, despite the admiral's grounding order for the major.
*As the Raptor's door is almost closed, Lampkin's cat escapes through the hatchway, and the door is reopened while other deckhands scramble to chase the cat.
*As Chief Tyrol crawls under the Raptor to reach the cat, he discovers the bomb, and everyone madly scrambles away.
*Later, Admiral Adama is infuriated at his son for disobeying orders, noting how everyone is out of sorts since Thrace's death two weeks prior. The admiral orders his son to do his job, properly, for he will be on the other side of the courtroom as a tribunal member.

Act 3
*The bomb is dissected and analyzed. Deck crew and officers discuss the problem: One of them is a conspirator. Cally Tyrol states her opinion, and accuses the Cylons, and more indirectly Sharon Agathon, for the bombings and inciting the riots within the Fleet.
*Major Adama warns Lampkin to watch himself, but Lampkin is philosophical, realizing that someone will eventually get to him, no matter what.
*On Colonial One, Roslin grants Lampkin permission to interview Caprica-Six in the usual interrogation room. Tory Foster apologizes to Apollo for the difficulty and delay in getting the files Lampkin requested shipped to him.
*As Lampkin interviews Six, she notes her love for him. Lampkin relates his experiences in love, which moves Six. On asking if Baltar asked about her, Lampkin removes his glasses and shows Baltar's pen, telling her that his sacrifice of his one limited freedom is an expression of his love.
*Lampkin tells her, that unlike Baltar, she won't get a trial.
*Later, Anthony Figurski delivers the papers Lampkin requested from Colonial One, noting that Captain Kelley had inspected them. The marine escort is suspicious, and both they and Lampkin inspect the paper box to their satisfaction.
*As Lampkin enters his key code for opening his quarter's hatch, one marine notices a screw on the floor, and realizes that the key lock had been tampered with. He tackles Lampkin, pushing him to safety just as the hatchway explodes.

Act 4
*Lampkin survives the bomb attack, but is in sickbay. Major Adama speaks with him and has brought a bag containing Lampkin's possessions.
*Lampkin states that he is a kleptomaniac, and master slight-of-hand thief. Major Adama begins to remove the items with Lampkin commenting on the signifigance of each: Roslin's glasses, a shoe from the prosecuting attorney, a button from the admiral's jacket. "I borrow things," he says. When the major asks what Lampkin took from him, he tells him that he found Thrace's picture, but didn't take it.
*Adama discovers a special object that could only come from an officer. He asks who Lampkin burgled to get this object.
*Major Adama interview Captain Kelly, who admits to be the bomber, warning that he would continue the attacks if left on duty.
*The admiral reinstates his son as CAG, but the younger Adama wants to help Lampkin, to his father's repeated objections. Eventually, the admiral, furious with the major, orders that the major be removed from the board and re-instate Helo as temporary CAG.
*Thrace's picture makes it on the memorial board as she requested, next to Kat. Anders, on crutches and with his left leg in a cast, comes in. The two come to terms with Thrace's death and possibly mend a friendship.
*Baltar finds an envelope with his pen, and a note from his attorney.
*The note contains a poetic line, telling Baltar that there is no more powerful ally than a son who decides to step away from his father's shadow.

Bonus Scene
*The scene begins with Athena and Cally Tyrol in the hangar deck while the rest of the deck gang is away.
*Athena begins to ask Cally why she accused her of being the bomber, upon which Cally denies ever making a direct accusation.
*Athena responds that she didn't accuse or even indirectly imply that Cally is the bomber, even though Cally was the last deck hand to inspect the Raptor.
*Athena allows Cally to take her gun and hold it to her chest, while Athena states why she knows Cally, despite her intense hatred for the Cylons, wouldn't shoot her. It is because she knows Athena loves her husband, her daughter, and Galactica. Cally, according to Athena, would never dare take a child's mother away.
*After a few tense moments, Athena grabs the gun, points it next to Cally's head and states in unambiguous terms that if Cally is discovered to be the bomber, Athena will kill Cally herself.

Questions
* Is Lampkin's statement to Roslin and Adama that he is seeking the fame (or infamy) of being Baltar's lawyer true, or is there an ulterior motive?

* Will Captain Kelly be punished and if yes, how?

* Besides the attacks caused by Kelly, have there been any other incidents of violence on the scale that Zarek warned Roslin about?

* Will the death of Thrace bring Lee Adama and Sam Anders closer as friends in the future?

* Would the bomb on the Raptor have gone off if Tyrol hadn't discovered it? Is Kelly telling the truth that he would not have triggered it with Lee Adama inside?

* Is Cally's hatred of the Cylons truly towards all Cylons or is she afraid of Athena because of her connection to Tyrol's former lover, Boomer?

* Why does Lampkin wear sunglasses in most of his encounters with people?

* What caused the rift between William Adama and his own father?

* Given Karl Agathon's temporary promotion to CAG, does he have previous flight experience as a Viper pilot?

Analysis
* A noticeable pattern between the two Adamas can be seen whenever both are going through a stressful or traumatic situation. Whereas the elder Adama has the experience and the desire to focus on the job that he has to do, the younger Adama consistently displays an inability to cope and process his emotions. This difference between the two has often led to sharp divisions, causing another tear in their damaged relationship:
** When the two Adamas do not agree on the same method of coping with the destruction of the Olympic Carrier in "33". This eventually leads to Lee Adama becoming Roslin's military adviser and eventual co-conspirator during the hunt of Arrow of Apollo.
** During the planning for the Battle of New Caprica, the two Adamas butt heads again over strategy and whether it is worth the risk of losing the last remnants of humanity that were with Galactica and Pegasus at the time.

* Lee Adama has consistently shown a tendency to prove that he is not like his father, even though both are described as stubborn by Dualla and Carolanne Adama. This tendency is evident in the last argument between the two when Apollo accuses Adama of not wanting him to become like his grandfather.

* When Lee Adama mistakenly thinks and calls Racetrack "Starbuck", his mental state is reminiscent of "Black Market" when he constantly found himself recollecting events on Caprica before the genocide.

* William Adama's failure to listen to Carolanne Adama's pleas and advice to tell his son how proud he is of him comes back with a vengeance when Apollo repeatedly asks his father if he is giving him an order, the implication being that Apollo wanted to know if his father is treating him as a son or as a soldier. Adama's refusal to ask Apollo to obey his orders as his son will probably lead to further dissension between the two.

* Romo Lampkin, though he appears to be a lawyer with little courtroom experience, has demonstrated a deep understanding of the human psyche. He takes Roslin's glasses to prevent her from being taken seriously during the trial. His other feats such as raising doubt and bringing out Caprica-Six's feelings for Baltar, and his slow but sure persuasion of Lee Adama into helping with Baltar's case, give hints to a man who obviously has immense experience with the art of manipulation.

* Lee Adama honors Thrace's request of having her photo posted next to Kat's. His inability to let go of the photo may represent a possible marriage conflict with Dualla if he is unable to truly move on.

* Cally Tyrol correctly states that the Cylons wouldn't need to even fire one shot because they may find the Fleet had torn itself apart because of humanity's tendency towards self-destruction. However, it is also clear that she has not realized that she and the many workers are just as much a part of the problems when they essentially risked the existence of the Fleet with their work strikes, refusal to refine tylium, and disobedience toward military orders (Dirty Hands). The summary of all those acts cannot be attributed to Cylon intervention as Cally Tryol was implying that Athena was responsible for the bombings.

* Two weeks have passed since the events of "Maelstrom". During this time, Adama apparently has been mulling over his memories of Starbuck, including a review of her military record. The audience sees, amongst the items in the folder, a hand-made birthday card which Thrace gave Adama for his birthday once. It jokingly shows Thrace with a color pen mustache and glasses, and asks if Adama can see the resemblance. This moment reinforces the theme that Starbuck was very much a daughter to Adama, even though he stated otherwise in "Torn". It is very clear that he still sees Thrace as a daughter to him.

* After the events of "The Woman King", Helo has been reinstated amongst the pilots of Galactica, as the original purpose of assigning him to Dogsville was in response to his objections and sabotage of the Cylon biological weapon. Starting with "Dirty Hands", Helo is present at briefings in the ready room, and by the implications of this episode, he appears to be one of the four squadron leaders. Thus, once Apollo's flight status is revoked it is only natural for Adama to promote Helo to the CAG position because of seniority and trust.

* It is unclear whether Helo has experience with a Viper, but numerous Viper pilots have been flying Raptors so far. Whether this goes both ways it yet to be seen, but with Helo's position as head of a squadron and now CAG, it appears that he has at least enough operational and tactical knowledge to do the necessary organizational and administrative duties.

* Though Kelly tells Apollo that he would have never detonated the bomb with him inside, the fact that the bomb had been planted and that Kelly couldn't anticipate Apollo's impromptu decision to join Lampkin, makes it clear that Kelly's original intention was to kill Lampkin and Athena. Whether this is an indirect statement on Kelly's view on Athena's Cylon heritage or his desire to raise the stakes by not only killing Baltar's lawyer, but sacrifice a member of the crew, is unclear.

Notes
*This episode's title is a pun on the title of the 1926 Hemingway novel "The Sun Also Rises".
*Starting with this episode, Katee Sackhoff's name is no longer listed in the opening credits.
*The population count at the start of this episode is 41,399, accounting for Kara Thrace's death in "Maelstrom". At least one birth must have occurred to set off Alan Hughes's death in the teaser.
*Karl Agathon is temporarily assigned as CAG, despite not having any previously known experience as a Viper pilot. This might have been done for production reasons. After Apollo, Helo is the highest-ranking established pilot left. In-universe Marcia Case or Ricky Richardson are probably better qualified for the position.
*The model ship which Adama destroyed in the previous episode is still sitting on a shelf in his quarters.
*Romo Lampkin exhibits symptoms of kleptomania. Over the course of the episode he steals many objects, including President Roslin's glasses and Baltar's fountain pen. These objects are stolen from those whom Lampkin views as important from a psychological perspective, which provides him with knowledge of a person. Among the objects stolen:
** Gaius Baltar's worn fountain pen
** Laura Roslin's glasses
** Admiral Adama's uniform button, which Adama first searches for when Lampkin talks to Caprica-Six
** Ms. Cassidy's sandal
** Aaron Kelly's magnetic component, used in his bomb-making

Noteworthy Dialogue
* Romo Lampkin replies to William Adama's question regarding his qualifications for defending Gaius Baltar:
: Lampkin: I was born for this. That, and the fact I have a pulse.

* Lampkin's cat jumps on Laura Roslin's desk:
: Lampkin: Cat's belonged to my wife. Don't worry, he doesn't scratch or bite like she did. If it's any comfort, I despise him as much as you do, having to hire me. So, there it is. Shall we get started?

* Admiral Adama rips Lee Adama another one:
: William Adama: What the hell were you doing out there? I gave you an order. To do a job.
: Lee Adama: Excuse me, I was doing my job.
: Bill: Yeah, being led around by the nose! This bastard yanks your chain and you jump.
: Lee: He wanted files from Colonial One–
: Bill: It was the middle of the night.
: Lee: Well, you assigned me to security.
: Bill: Yeah. And there was a bomb on that ship. And you missed it. Security? I gave you explicit orders.
: Lee: Athena was piloting.
: Bill: You coulda died. Plain and simple. You're a soldier. Live like one. Start acting like one!
: Lee: She's been gone two weeks. I didn't realize the clock was running.
: Bill: (softly) Stop.
: Lee: No, I'm sorry. Maybe because we're just built differently.
: Bill: You stop. Don't you dare quantify my loss.
: Lee: You have no idea. You have no frakking idea.
: Bill: What, you think yours is deeper?
: Lee: Well–
: Bill: Yours is greater? (Lee doesn't respond) In two weeks, there's going to be a trial. And I'm going to do what I was chosen to do, and so are you! You build a frakking nest around this man and you protect his ass!

* Aaron Kelly opines on shuttling Gaius Baltar's lawyer:
: Kelly: Every day I wave jocks out there. A lot of them are my friends. People I care for and love. It's hard enough watching them die in battle, but rickshawing Baltar's frakking attorney around? Frak that.

* Cally Tyrol apparently learns from her mistakes:
: Tyrol: I believe that the Cylons want us to destroy ourselves and this is how they're doing it. By planting bombs, making us suspicious of each other. You know what's funny? By the time the Cylons catch up with us, they won't even have to attack. They'll just clean up the mess we made.

* Baltar muses over adding to his manifesto, before discovering his pen has gone missing:
: Baltar: The nature of modern life is obsession.

* Lee Adama discovers Lampkin's kleptomania:
: Adama: So what did you take from me?
: Lampkin: I was thinkin' the photograph that you carry. The girl. The pilot. The one you carry [in your pocket]. But... you've had enough stolen from you already.

* Lee Adama confronts Kelly about the bomb:
: Kelly: I would have never let Athena airborne with you on the Raptor. I would have stopped it. You know that.
: Adama: Yeah, I know that.
: Kelly: You better lock me up. And I don't want any trial. I won't stop. I will keep trying. I'll keep at it, I will. I did my job, sir. And I have done my job for two years. Every day I've sent people out to fight. I cleared them all to die. So many people... I just got tired of living with that. You ask that man, if you had to choose between giving up his life for a Cylon or human, what do you think he'd say? I had to do somethin'.

* Baltar reads a note from Lampkin, after retrieving his pen from the envelope:
: Lampkin: There's no greater ally, no force more powerful, no enemy more resolved than the son who chooses to step from his father's shadow.

Official Statements
Information from the podcast:
* Ron Moore admits that it's a stretch to have both Adamas involved intimately in the trial and even on opposite sides. But the writers decided to go for increased drama, since the trial would otherwise only be carried by guest stars with the show's main characters sidelined. Moore also believes that Admiral Adama is capable to make fair and rational decisions.
* Romo Lampkin's cat was supposed to be run out of the Raptor, but when shooting the cat only strolled. Since it's difficult to teach cats what to do, the film was sped up instead.
* That Lampkin always wears sunglasses was a decision made by the writer that was ultimately supported, despite concern on the part of the actor and the director.

A series bible is a guidebook written by the creator(s) of a TV show so that all writers will know the general outline of the show; it contains the backstories of the characters and outlines the in-series universe. Typically, it contains information that might not actually be revealed to the audience until later, but is known to the writers from the start, so they won't make any conflicting new stories.

The re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series bible was written by Ron D. Moore after the Miniseries during a hiatus and was completed on 17 December 2003. Lt. Joe Palladino owns a bound edition of Kataris' poems and threatens Col. Saul Tigh with lines from one:

<blockquote>From the darkness you must fall<br />
Failed and weak, to darkness all.</blockquote>

Kataris is quite well-known amongst Colonials. Kara Thrace recognizes the quotation, recalls from which piece it comes, and knows the poem's quality relative to his other works. D'anna Biers identifies Palladino's copy of one of Kataris' books on sight in a recording she is editing (Final Cut).

Monclair was a Colonial painter. One of his original paintings, a stylized depiction of the Cylon War, adorns William Adama's quarters on Galactica. He is apparently of considerable renown, given Gaius Baltar's impressed reaction to the piece (Bastille Day).

According to the book, Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion, the painting hanging in Adama's quarters was actually made by additional art director Ken Rabehl.

Kara Thrace
Between tours of duty, Kara Thrace was an enthusiastic painter. Karl Agathon is surprised to discover this side of her when they visit her apartment in Delphi (Valley of Darkness). Curiously, a specific design that Thrace has doodled as a child would be found more than two years later inside an ancient temple of the Thirteenth Tribe, without Thrace or Helo understanding why she would be aware of the design (Rapture).
<br clear="both">

Tattoos
Kara Thrace & Samuel Anders
*Instead of wearing wedding rings, Samuel Anders and Kara Thrace created tattoos on their arms that, when they embrace, form a unified circle with wings. The symbol for the colony of Caprica is also in view.
**Michael Trucco adds that it is their wedding band, but that this is never fully explained in the show.
**The matching tattoos are not real tattoos, but are applied by the makeup department.

Other
Felix Gaeta displays a tattoo of a rather large tiger during his interview with D'anna Biers (Final Cut). Gaeta indicated he was quite inebriated with ambrosia to minimize the pain of the tattoo.

Socinus has a tattoo of an Aries design on his right arm (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I).

An unnamed pilot has many tattoos on both upper arms, depicting a tiger and a dragon, among other things.

Vireem, specialist aboard the battlestar Pegasus, has a complex tattoo on his shoulder (Pegasus)

Sculpture
In addition to the Arrow of Apollo, the Delphi Museum of the Colonies contains a large collection of ancient pottery. Located in numerous display cases in the exhibit halls spanning the museum's levels, this large collection of vases, jars, pots and stone fragments form a rough outline of the Colonials' artistic history. Many of the artifacts and art pieces are quite elaborate and appear to be in the detailed Corinthian Style.

Music
Kara Thrace's Father
Thrace's father was a pianist. His daughter kept recordings of some of his piano arrangements in her Delphi apartment (Valley of Darkness).

Colonial Anthem
The Colonial anthem is heard as a short fanfare over the Viper flyby during Galactica's decommissioning ceremony. Its second, and longer, appearance is as background music for the rousing closing speech of D'anna Biers's documentary on the Colonial military (Final Cut).

Aesthetics
Colonial aesthetics lead to an avoidance of right angles.

Octagons
Colonial printouts, photographs, videos and data discs are rarely rectangular; the corners are trimmed at 45 degree angles, creating snub rectangles, i.e octagons. The reasoning for this is likely based on their aversion to right angles, as rectangles are, particularly for paper, more efficient.

Hexagons
In the Re-imagined Series, hexagons feature significantly as dog tags, playing cards, glass bottles and many other objects. This likely reflects both the dislike of right angles and the simplicity of polygons over curved shapes.

Pentagons
While not a part of Colonial society per se, pentagons play a large part in the architecture of the lone Thirteenth Colony structure encountered by the Colonials thus far, the Temple of Five. Much like the Colonials, it appears at least the ancient members of the Thirteenth Tribe were also wary of right angles.

Architecture
Federal Period
This style was mix of older and newer trends, utilizing traditional stone facades along with glass and steel. This architecture was found throughout Caprica City, Delphi, and other unnamed Cities of Caprica prior to the Cylon attack.

Ancient Kobol
In "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I", Roslin looks at schematics for the City of the Gods on Kobol. Its buildings, such as the Temple, Forum, and the Opera House, were made of stone and range in shape and size, and resemble classical Greco-Roman architecture.

Later, the ruins of the Opera House are seen when Gaius Baltar and others crash-land nearby. The building was made of stone and utilized decorative columns and pillars. While there, Baltar has a vision which may have represented the original appearance of the Opera House before it fell into disrepair.

Polygonal Architecture
Many places and objects within Galactica reflect early aesthetic choices that eschew right-angular forms. Many corridors, including ship bulkhead doors, are hexagonal. CIC elements, particularly the Command & Control Center table, the tactical station table, and even the alignment of the displays of the DRADIS console, form a hexagonal appearance.

This aesthetic appears to have waned during the construction of more advanced battlestars such as Pegasus, which uses far fewer hexagonal shapes.
Tricia Helfer (born 11 April 1974) is a Canadian actor and former fashion model. She is best known to viewers as Number Six on the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica.

Born in Donalda, Alberta, Canada, Helfer's father was half-English, half-German, while her mother was half-Swedish, half-Norwegian. With her three sisters, she grew up working on her parents' grain farm with aspirations to study animal psychology, as well as to play college volleyball . She started modeling at 17, after she was discovered by an agent while waiting in a movie-ticket line. She moved to New York to start modeling right before her 18th birthday and competed in the Ford Supermodel of the World contest when she was 18, which lead to a ten-year modeling career.

Modeling
The actress, who is 5'10" tall with measurements of 34-24-34, has an interesting physical attribute which she claims to be her "favorite quirk": webbed toes.

Helfer won the 1992 Ford Supermodel of the World award; the former Elite model has graced the covers of such magazines as Elle, Amica Italia and Cosmopolitan UK, and has walked the runways for Christian Dior, Givenchy, Claude Montana, Emanuel Ungaro and other top fashion designers. A model for Victoria's Secret, she has appeared in advertisements for clients including Giorgio Armani, Oil of Olay and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Helfer started acting in 2002 after taking night classes for a year and a half in New York City and studied at the Penny Templeton Studios while she was still modeling. She later studied at Larry Moss in L.A, Margie Haber in L.A. and coached with Crystal Carson in L.A.. After doing correspondent work for the Canadian style/fashion TV-magazine series Ooh La La, Helfer gained attention as an actress when she played the lead female role of Sarah, the hero's love interest, in the two-hour premiere of the Showtime series Jeremiah. She later memorably played a teen model who tries to cut off her own face in an episode of the hit series C.S.I. and starred as Farrah Fawcett-Majors in the 2004 telefilm Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Charlie's Angels. Helfer, who can be seen in the modeling documentaries Catwalk and Unzipped, also appears in the comedy short Eventual Wife, seen on HBO/Cinemax and on the AtomFilms Web site.

Although her commonly-seen Battlestar characters of the Number Six copies have platinum blonde hair, the actress is a natural brunette. Originally, her own hair was dyed white. However, this eventually resulted in her hair "breaking off in chunks an inch long", so by the 8th episode of season 2, she switched to a wig, and played Gina with her own honey-blonde dyed hair.

Helfer hosted the reality series Canada's Next Top Model, which is a spin-off of America's Next Top Model.

Helfer donates many of her profits towards charities that benefit animals and animal shelters.

Along with Grace Park (Number Eight), Helfer will appear in the 2007 installment of the Command & Conquer series, Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars.

The actress also appears in a 16-photo pictorial in the February 2007 issue of Playboy magazine.

Filming Battlestar Galactica
Despite difficulties in approving Helfer's casting as Number Six, mainly due to her then-relative lack of acting experience, David Eick thought "she was great from the first time she auditioned, and I'm glad to say that I managed to convince everyone she was perfect for the part".

William "Bill" Adama, a veteran of the Cylon War, is the commanding officer of the battlestar Galactica, and the highest ranking officer left in the Colonial Fleet.

Background
*William Adama was born H5/21290 on Caprica, the son of Joseph Adama and Evelyn Adama and raised in Qualai, a small coastal community (Hero). His father was an attorney specializing in criminal defense and civil liberties (Litmus, Hero). His mother was an accountant (Hero).
*Adama served late in the Cylon War as a Viper pilot. He allegedly gained the call sign of "Husker" on account of his baritone "gravelled" voice. He proved a gifted pilot, shooting down his first Cylon on his very first combat mission, for which he received a commendation.
*He racked his 1,000th deck landing while serving aboard battlestar Atlantia (Act of Contrition), when he held the rank of Lieutenant.
*In the last week in the war, Adama served on Galactica when the battlestar was boarded by Cylon forces. He recalled to his friend and fellow war veteran Saul Tigh a dangerous Cylon tactic that tried to turn the battlestar's power against itself (Scattered, deleted scene).
*Furloughed by Colonial Fleet after the war's end, Adama found work as a deck hand on a merchant fleet civilian freighter, where he met Saul Tigh, who became a long-time friend.
*Adama married Carolanne Adama, whose family had political influence with the defense subcommittee and pulled to get Adama reinstated to the Colonial Fleet. Adama himself arranged for Tigh's reinstatement a few years later.
*William Adama and Caroline Adama had two sons, Lee and Zak, before the pressures of Adama's career and the time he spent away from home in active service began to place a strain on their marriage, and the two eventually divorced.

*While elder son Lee Adama showed promise as a Viper pilot, younger Zak Adama did not. Kara Thrace, Zak's flight instructor and lover, certified him for basic flight despite young Adama's poor flight skills. Later, Zak Adama was killed in an operational flight. Zak's death would cause a rift between Commander Adama and his older son for nearly three years until Thrace admits her error to both of them.
*Adama rose through the ranks of the peacetime fleet, making rank of Major on Atlantia and then Executive Officer of battlestar Columbia, before becoming Commander of the battlestar Valkyrie. About a year prior to the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, he was ordered by Admiral Corman to escort a stealth scoutship over the Armistice Line. The mission was a failure, and in an attempt to cover up, he ordered the ship and its pilot shot down. Ever since, he had felt guilt, both over shooting down his own pilot and over the possibility that his actions resulted in the holocaust. According to Tigh, this mission brought his star into the descendent, and he was given command of Galactica as a graceful way of easing into retirement.
*Adama has the rare combination of qualities that make up a good leader: insight, the ability to naturally command respect, a common touch that enables him to relate to the enlisted personnel under his command as well as his officers, intuition, intelligence, a strong belief in his own abilities, and the ability to take the advice of others. These qualities are reflected in the fact that personnel of all ranks aboard Galactica hold him in high regard, and know that he is approachable (Miniseries).
*Adama mistrusts politicians, and sometimes places too strongly a value of loyalty to those he regards as family and friends. From his uneasiness to Laura Roslin's unexpected assumption of the Presidency, to the tolerance and patience of his friend, Saul Tigh, and his stubborness to save Kara Thrace (You Can't Go Home Again), Adama shows a dogged determination that few others care to confront.
*Several notable assignments and reassignments during his 45-year career in the Colonial Fleet (Hero):
**D6/21311 - First commission: Battlestar Galactica fighter squadron
**E4/21312 - Commendation for shooting down Cylon fighter in first combat mission
**D5/21314 - Mustered out of service post-armistice
**R6/21317 - Served as Deck Hand in merchant fleet and as common [...] aboard inter-colony tramp freighters
**D1/21331 - Recommissioned to Fleet
**D6/21337 - Major: Battlestar Atlantia
**R8/21341 - Executive Officer: Battlestar Columbia
**C2/21345 - Commander: Battlestar Valkyrie
**C2/21348 - Commander: Battlestar Galactica

Character History at a Glance
*At the time of the Miniseries, William Adama, former CO of the battlestar Valkyrie, serves out his final weeks as commander of the battlestar Galactica. After some 50 years of service, the historic warship is in the process of being decommissioned, and it was one of Adama's final duties to formally hand her over to the Colonial Ministry of Education, which would operate the ship as a living museum and educational center commemorating the original Cylon War.
*As a retirement gift, several members of Galen Tyrol's deck crew find and restore Adama's old Viper Mark II.
*On news of a renewed Cylon attack, Adama's first thoughts are, "Dead. We're all dead" (Home, Part II). Despite this, as well as the presumed loss of his wife in Caprica City, he manages to shepherd the last of humanity to safety.

*When Picon Fleet Headquarters is destroyed and then Admiral Nagala is killed, he unhesitatingly takes control of the Colonial's response to the Cylon incursion and starts defining a response to the onslaught. Once President Roslin convinces Adama the futility of fighting against overwhelming odds, and with what may be the last 50,000 humans that remain anywhere, he makes the switch to the more tactical thinking that keeps the Colonial fleet at least one step ahead of their Cylon pursuers.
*From the outset, he is savvy enough to give every single survivor of the devastating attack on the Colonies a reason for hope for the future: the legend of Earth. This falsehood comes back to haunt him as the weeks continue, as Roslin is aware of this lie to the crew and states this privately to Adama.
*Adama continues to face the problem of infiltration within the Fleet by Humanoid Cylons as well as dissenting humans who protest or terrorize others in the Fleet. Adama continually redefines the boundaries of military and civil leadership. After some serious missteps between he and President Roslin, the two later become friends as well as influential leaders.
*Sharon Valerii, a trusted Raptor pilot that served with Adama for two years, reveals herself unwittingly as a Cylon sleeper agent and shoots Adama at point blank range after a critical mission near Kobol. Cottle eventually repairs the damage to Adama's body, but Adama's psyche takes the larger hit while he repairs the damage to the Fleet he and Col. Tigh have caused in arresting President Roslin, as well as the existence of a second copy of Valerii.

*While at first Adama takes a similar stance to Tigh in assuming a hard military posture, a conversation with Dualla helps him realize that, despite the problems, the Fleet is his family, and the family must stay together. After finding the Tomb of Athena with Roslin and reuniting a factioning of the Fleet, Adama firmly buries the hatchet between he and Roslin publicly.
*In a desperate plan, Adama trusts the second Valerii to help ward off a massive Cylon fleet. Adama (Flight of the Phoenix). Despite his "gut" feelings about the Cylon, he finds common ground often with her, even apologizing to her after a distasteful incident.
*Adama stoically accepts Admiral Helena Cain's overall command. Wary of her behavior and her crew, Adama follows his own truism: stick to what you know, until you find something better.
*Matters with Cain's unusually totalitarian command style come to a head when Cain makes several highly questionable orders that lead him to face off with her battlestar and her command in a military challenge. While the issue is temporarily defused, Adama is told by, of all people, President Roslin that Cain is a threat to the safety of the Fleet's citizens and must be eliminated.
*Adama avoids killing Cain after realizing that he would become the monster that the Cylons believed they were, unaware that she has plotted his demise as well.
*With Cain's fate sealed not by Adama but Gina, a frail President Roslin promotes Adama to Admiral. He gives her a simple, affectionate kiss, which she returns, signifying another change in their turbulent association.
*Adama's sense of justice with Roslin holds when he confronts her about a conspiracy involving her re-election. Roslin admits the conspiracy but she is certain disaster will strike if Gaius Baltar becomes president. He agrees, but convinces Roslin that the correct course of action is to acknowledge a miscount and cover the conspiracy.
*When Cloud Nine and two other ships blow up as a result of Gina's last effort of sabotage, Adama is privately infuriated at new President Baltar's refusal to investigate, and begins to wonder if he hadn't made a mistake.

Currently...
*A year later, Adama commands a heavily under-staffed Galactica as the flagship of a defense fleet, consisting of all ships unable or unwilling to make planetfall on New Caprica. He now sports a thick mustache, and has apparently taken up smoking.
*Adama convinces Tigh to rejoin Ellen in New Caprica City after months of debate, with Helo acting as his new XO.
*Not long after Tigh leaves, a massive Cylon fleet bears down on New Caprica. After a brief discussion with Commander Lee Adama (aboard Pegasus), they order the Fleet to escape to pre-arranged Jump coordinates.
*The admiral issues the Jump order with a reminder: "We're leaving... but we'll be back."
*A couple of months after Galactica, Pegasus and the rest of the New Caprica Defense Fleet jump away, Adama is trying to make a rescue plan on New Caprica but hurls a Raptor model across the room in frustration (Occupation).

*Admiral Adama mends fences with Sharon Agathon over the months in orbit of New Caprica. He commissions her as a Colonial officer shortly after making contact with the New Caprica Resistance (Precipice).
*After this, Adama orders his son Lee to take over as guardian of the Fleet; Lee's orders are to continue the search for Earth, as Adama is going back to retrieve those left behind &mdash; which Lee considers a suicide mission (Precipice, Exodus, Part I). Despite heavy losses, and with the last-minute assistance of Lee and the Pegasus, Adama is able to successfully pull off the rescue attempt (Exodus, Part II). He is lauded by his crew and the civilians for this.
*He has recently been awarded a Medal of Distinction for his 45 years of distinctive service in the Colonial Fleet. To him this is a penance for the harm that he caused in the past, and the possibility that he was the cause of the Fall of the Twelve Colonies (Hero).

Additional Notes
*Adama (also known as Nazareth) is the name of a large city in Ethiopia. The name is also a variation on "Adam," the first man to be created according to the Bible in the Book of Genesis. In Hebrew the word pronounced "Adama" means earth.
*The greek word <i>adamas</i> (αδάμας) means invincible and is the etymological root of the word <i>diamond</i>. It seems a suitable choice as the surname of the various related characters in this series as it relates to their personality traits.
*Edward James Olmos has brown eyes, but he wears contacts when playing William Adama that make Adama's eyes blue. This is done so that Olmos and Jamie Bamber, who is playing his son Apollo, will resemble each other more.
*Astute viewers may recall Edward James Olmos sharing the screen with realistic humanoid robots as Gaff in the classic science fiction film "Blade Runner". Olmos also shares with Star Trek star William Shatner the distinction of being one of only two actors to both command a television starship and portray a police officer in a popular 1980's cop show ("Miami Vice" for Olmos, "T.J. Hooker" for Shatner).
