This is a listing of continuity errors in the Re-imagined Series.

Acknowledged Mistakes
*At the end of "Home, Part II", when everyone is looking at the map to Earth in the Tomb of Athena, Lee Adama points out the Lagoon Nebula in one of the constellations shown in the sky. According to him, and supported by the visual effects, the nebula is located in Scorpio, but in the real world it is actually in the constellation Sagittarius.
*At the beginning of "Downloaded" two captions are shown: one states that the Cylon Attack in the Miniseries occurred nine months before the current episode (which is consistent with the other episodes in Season 2.5), while the second reads "10 weeks ago", and then shows Cally shooting "Boomer" Valerii in "Resistance". However, it is impossible for this to have happened "10 weeks before 9 months after the attack": 9 months = 270 days. There is another plaque in the episode "Epiphanies" which clearly states on screen that that episode took place on Day 189. There are 70 days in 10 weeks. 70 days before Day 270 would be around Day 200; well after "Epiphanies". To correct this, the title card of the DVD and international television releases has been changed to "10 weeks later", meaning 10 weeks after Number Six's rebirth.
*In "Scar" Starbuck and Kat fly Viper Mark VIIs but the launch in the originally aired episode showed a Viper Mark II. This has been fixed in the DVD release which now includes a new, but somewhat shorter, launch sequence with the Mk VIIs. (Although, a few previous episodes like "Resurrection Ship, Part II" only use the Mk II sequence, but both types of Vipers are deployed by Galactica.)
*"Exodus, Part I": At the end of "Precipice" Cally is clearly in the woods when the gunfire is going off. At the time Tyrol and his group take aim at the Cylon Centurion, Cally has not reached the wooded area by the time gunfire sounds. Further, when the gunfire begins in "Precipice", Tyrol is at the firing position, far from Cally, while in "Exodus, Part I" he is holding her to the ground when it begins.

Retcons
*Season two timeline discontinuity: All episodes before Season 2.5 (starting with "Resurrection Ship, Part I") seem to indicate that Season 2.5 begins 3-4 months after the Cylon attack. However, "Resurrection Ship, Part I" and all subsequent Season 2.5 episodes indicate that "Resurrection Ship, Part I" began 6 months after the Cylon attack. See the main article for more detailed analysis. There are 3 main points of discontinuity:
**Caprica-Valerii is not visibly pregnant in "Pegasus", but by "Epiphanies", roughly 2-3 weeks later, she appears to be in her second trimester.
**The presidential elections in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II" are said to take place 9 months after the attack, when throughout Season 1 it was consistently said to be 7 months after the Cylon attack.
**If all of the dates mentioned in each episode are counted up, "Pegasus" only occurs roughly three months post-attack, not six.
*Fleet numbers: In the Miniseries, a total of 40 FTL ships (led by Roslin) rendezvous with Galactica at Ragnar Anchorage. This makes the count 41 ships, including Galactica. However, this number was enlarged for the series. In "33," Dualla states: "Jump 237 underway... 53 ships have jumped, 10 still reporting trouble with their FTL drives, including Colonial One." Thus making the total 64 ships, including Galactica herself. By the end of "33", the count drops to 63 as Lee Adama and Kara Thrace destroy the Olympic Carrier. In "You Can't Go Home Again", Colonel Tigh mentions the Cylons searching for "a sixty-odd ships". The count offered in "The Farm" is similar &mdash; 24 ships leave to join Roslin's fleet, which was "almost a third" of the Fleet, putting the number at about 75.
*The Astral Queen: In the Miniseries, Billy Keikeya states that the captain had 500 prisoners in his cargo hold, and that the Queen was a cargo vessel transporting prisoners to a prison. In "Bastille Day", Billy Keikeya's lines were re-dubbed: 1,500 prisoners are aboard the Astral Queen and that the ship was a prison transport. Lee Adama would go on to later state that the Astral Queen was en route to Caprica for parole hearings.
*Cylon detector: In the episode "Flesh and Bone", it takes only minutes to identify "Boomer" Valerii as a Cylon. However, in "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down", he states that complete testing on one sample of blood takes 11 hours. However, this could be because a negative result takes 11 hours to confirm but a positive result potentially may be more instant.
*The exodus from Kobol: In "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I" Elosha, Billy and Roslin are discussing Kobol and the exodus of the tribes. Billy says that the ruins on Kobol are 2,000 years old. Elosha states this is when the Thirteen tribes left Kobol. Other mentions in the show (particularly Season 3 episodes concerning the Cylon virus and the Temple of Five) mention that the 13th tribe left Kobol about 2,000 years before the other twelve did. Elosha's comment implies that all thirteen tribes left Kobol together, just in different directions.

Danglers
Danglers are plotlines that have been started, but haven't yet been continued as of the end of Season 3.
*Caprica-Six meeting: In the Miniseries, at the end of the scene where Number Six and Gaius Baltar walk through the park, Six says she has to meet someone. After Baltar walks away, she looks off-camera and says she had "been wondering when you'd get here." After this, there is a cut to Galatica. Given that was the day of/before the attack, it appears likely that the meeting was related to the Cylon's plans. Regardless of who she was meeting, this has not been revisited.
*Zarek-Tigh plotline: In the episode "Colonial Day", it is heavily implied that Ellen Tigh revealed the location of Valance to agents of Tom Zarek, and that she intends for her husband, Colonel Saul Tigh, to meet with Zarek's people in the near future. As of the start of the third season, this plotline has not been revisited and probably will never be in light of Ellen's death in "Exodus, Part II".
*Zarek-black market plotline: Similarly, the end of "Black Market" implies that Zarek has assumed some measure of influence in that organization. This also has yet to be revisited.
*Demand Peace: The pro-Cylon terrorist faction that sprung up in the fleet during "Epiphanies" has yet to resurface as well. The episode concluded without any firm resolution regarding the fate of the movement and its leader Royan Jahee, however their base of operations, "Cloud 9", was destroyed by Gina in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II". The plotline of "Epiphanies" implies that the group is gearing up for a full-scale campaign against the Fleet's leadership, but they are never seen again and the fates of the group's members are not discussed later on.

Recasting
*Zak Adama: In the Miniseries, a different actor (or stand-in) is pictured as Zak Adama. In "Act of Contrition", a new actor portrays Zak, and the picture was changed to reflect the casting choice.
*Ellen Tigh: Same with Zak Adama. The picture of Saul Tigh's wife, which Tigh has burned a hole through, was originally a picture of David Eick's wife, Jennifer Berchfeild. When Kate Vernon was cast as Ellen in "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down", the image was changed.
*Richard Adar: In the Miniseries he is portrayed by David Eick in a photograph in Baltar's domicile on Caprica. When Adar appears in person in "Epiphanies" he is played by Colm Feore.
*Carolanne Adama is portrayed by an uncredited actress during a cameo in "Act of Contrition". She is portrayed by Lucinda Jenney in the episode "A Day in the Life".

Logic errors
* "He That Believeth In Me":
** In the previous episode (Crossroads, Part II), it is established that Samuel Anders has a limp from a broken leg he received in "The Son Also Rises". The limp is visible in the revelation of the "Fantastic Four" in the last act. However, the limp disappears completely in "He That Believeth In Me" in events that are depicted to happen mere 10 or less minutes later.
** In "Crossroads, Part II", it is inferred that Samuel Anders only began his training, as he is being shown avionics and other key systems in a Raptor by Lieutenant Margaret Edmondson. In this episode, he tells Kara Thrace that he concluded basic training and began ACM, and is capable of flying the Viper.

VFX Gaffes
*Miniseries: No less than three copies of Viper 1104 are present at the Battle of Ragnar Anchorage. Of these, one is crash landed by Lieutenant Thrace, one destroyed by Cylon fire, and one successfully landed on Galactica.
*Miniseries and "33": As Galactica prepares to jump to Ragnar Anchorage, the flight pods retract. As the ship jumps, the pods are not retracted. When Galactica has jumped to Ragnar Anchorage the pods are retracted again. This same footage is shown during the opening titles of "33".
*"33": As the Cylon Centurion approaches Helo from behind, the rain is hitting it, but it does not drip off its body. In contrast, water is dripping from Helo's face in a fairly consistent and noticeable manner.
*"You Can't Go Home Again": Before searching for Starbuck, Apollo climbs into a Viper Mk VII, although he is shown piloting a Mk II in all other effects shots. However, his Mark VII is mentioned as being down for repairs at one point, implying that he flies it off screen.
*"Amid Season 1": Half-way through Season 1, the Colonial One CG model was updated and the seal of the President of the Colonies was added to the hull. However, the reuse of stock footage from the Miniseries and earlier in the first season cause the seal to continually disappear and reappear in the same episode depending on what shot is used.
*"Scattered": A shot of Viper 1104 is mirrored accidentally.
*"Flight of the Phoenix":
**Viper and pilot numbers: 42 Vipers are deployed at a time when no more than 34 could have been serviceable, and with no more than 25 pilots available.
**Blackbird: As the Great Cylon Turkey Shoot begins, the Blackbird (still incomplete, untested, and missing its composite skin by this point) can be seen swooping across the screen in a manner inconsistent with its flight characteristics; the ship was built for speed, not maneuverability. The ship also fires what appears to be autocannons, although Blackbird is unarmed except in its final mission.
*"The Captain's Hand": As Starbuck leads Pegasus's Viper Mk VIIs into combat, a cockpit shot of her mistakenly shows Viper Mk IIs around her ship.
*"Crossroads, Part II":
** Lee Adama's Viper Mark VII is identified as 2220NC, or Viper 2220. However, Viper 2220 has already been established as a Viper Mark II, not a Mark VII, which has seen multiple appearances as Adama's Viper throughout Season 1.
** Further, Kara Thrace's pristine Viper does not have a nameplate. This is telling in closeups of her in her Viper's cockpit. However, this error is not present in the following episode, "He That Believeth In Me".

Prop and Equipment Errors
*Miniseries:
**An F-16 Fighting Falcon is visible in a picture in Adama's quarters when he and Colonel Tigh discuss Starbuck striking Tigh. However, this could be a tribute, the F-16 is sometimes called "Viper" by its pilots.
**The Viper Mk. VII flown by Major Spencer during the first sortie (Miniseries) is still marked as "Viper 2276NC" which is the Viper flown by Captain Lee Adama to Galactica.
**As "Boomer" Valerii takes off from Caprica with the civilians in the Raptor, just after Helo shoots the civilian who jumps on to the wing, the camera points to Boomer, where viewers can see in the window reflection the crane that is hoisting the Raptor mockup into the air.
**As shown in a closeup of the pilot after giving Laura Roslin the Case Orange reply, the spaceline's name on the Colonial One captain's uniform, "Eversun," is mismatched to the spaceline name used on Colonial Heavy 798 itself: Intersun.
**When Starbuck's Viper is hit during the second sortie ("I'm all right"), her helmet is unsealed and open.
**Similarly, Lee Adama's collar is opened when he scolds her for being "beyond insane" as Thrace pushing Adama's Viper into Galactica's flight pod at the end of the Battle of Ragnar Anchorage.
*"33":
**When Dualla admits that she lost the Olympic Carrier, her headset changes sides during the conversation.
**As Helo fires upon the Cylon Centurion that survives the detonation of an anti-personnel mine (similar to a Claymore mine), the first time Helo fires the pistol, it is heard to fire, but there is no accompanying visual spark from the barrel. In contrast, the second shot is accompanied by both a spark and the appropriate sound.
**After the disappearance of the Olympic Carrier in jump 238, with the timer running towards the 33 minute mark, the viewer can see that the clock is at 10 seconds. When focusing on Adama and Tigh, the viewer hears ten seconds counting off, but when the camera quick-pans to the overhead console, it reads that 3 seconds have passed.
**Before the clock reaches zero in the pre-title sequence, a wide shot of CIC is shown with Adama and Tigh standing at the central console. The timer on the screen above their heads is flashing 00:00:00.
*"Six Degrees of Separation": The special-effects group for the Re-imagined Series appear dedicated to creating computer screens, equipment and interfaces that are familiar to viewers, but aren't full counterparts to real-world Earth materials. However, the logo for NEC computer manufacturers can be seen on the monitors while Gaeta is working on the photograph. A similar occurrence happens in "Sacrifice".
*"Colonial Day": During the bar fight scene, Valance's gun is shown with a silencer attached as it falls out of his briefcase, but the silencer is not present for the rest of the scene. The silencer is back when Valance is interrogated by Starbuck and Apollo.
*"Valley of Darkness": Kat finds a box of explosive rounds with only 6 shells. The shells in the container start out scattered within the box, but as the camera cuts back and forth in the scene the shells switch from organized to scattered many times.
*"Black Market": At around 42:55 in the episode, the John Fowles historical fiction/romance novel The French Lieutenant's Woman appears on a shelf behind the couch in William Adama's room, to Lee Adama's left.
*"Scar":
**The little model plane on top of the "Top Gun" mug sported by Starbuck and Kat is actually an F/A-18 Hornet.
**When getting intimate with Apollo, the bandage on Starbuck's back moves from one side to the other. Usually, such bandages are used to cover a tattoo of a crucifix on her shoulder.
*"Sacrifice":
**When Starbuck is getting the handguns out of her case, she still has the environmental engineer's hat on. When she quickly turns around with the guns and starts firing, her hat has disappeared without explanation.
**A computer mouse (a design created by Microsoft) is seen connected to Sesha Abinell's laptop computer.
*"Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II": When the rescue mission returns from Caprica, Cavil (as well as probably Sharon Valerii and Karl Agathon) are carried by Raptor that is labeled with Racetrack's name. However, Racetrack never made it to Caprica.
*"Exodus, Part II": The DRADIS displays on Galactica and Pegasus are free of interference from the New Caprica nebula, even though it continued to be an obvious problem for both ships at the end of "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II".
*"The Passage": Raymond "Raygun" Lai's name appears on Galactica’s flight roster. His name previously appeared on one of the 40 year-old Viper Mk. IIs in the Galactica museum during the Miniseries.
*"Razor":
** Early in the scenes with the search and rescue party in the Guardian basestar, Kara Thrace can be seen with the tattoo she gets after marrying Samuel Anders, an event that won't happen for months from the story's perspective. It is absent in later scenes.
**Kendra Shaw has a band-aid on the end of her right index finger throughout the episode, in both the present and in the flashback scenes. However, it seems highly unlikely that she would either still be wearing it over the course of ten months or would coincidently have to apply another one on the same part of the same finger.
* In several episodes characters wear the wrong rank insignia:
** "The Hand of God": Starbuck wears "lieutenant j.g." (short chevron) insignia in several scenes.
** "Fragged": Cally is wearing petty officer, 2nd class instead of crewman specialist insignia.
** "Home, Part I" and "Home, Part II": Apollo wears major instead of captain insignia.
** "Scar":
*** In the first scene in the recreation room Starbuck wears lieutenant insignia despite having been promoted to captain.
*** Some of the nuggets have lieutenant insignia despite being addressed as ensigns. Apparently, the prop department had not produced the ensign insignias at that time.
** "The Captain's Hand": Apollo's insignia switch between captain and major at least once. Major is his correct rank at that time.
**"Hero": In the flashback scenes in Valkyries CIC, Commander Adama is wearing admiral's insignia.
**"Dirty Hands": Again, lt. j.g pins are used for the rank of ensign.

<div style="clear: both;"></div>

Dialogue Errors
*Miniseries:
**Tigh exclaims "Jesus!" when shown the photo of Adama, Zak and Lee. Ron Moore has stated that this was just an ad-lib by the actor, and was never in the script, and should have been removed during editing.
***This was removed from the "theatrical version" shown on Universal HD.
**When being informed by Six of her true nature and mission, Gaius Baltar exclaims "Oh, my God!" as opposed to "Gods".
**Jackson Spencer also makes this mistake after the Cylon Raiders launch missiles at his disabled squadron.
**The pronunciation of Lt. Gaeta's name frequently shifts between GAY-ta and GUY-ta during the Miniseries. Colonel Tigh regularly calls him GUY-ta while Adama vacillates between GAY-ta and GUY-ta. From "33" onward he is referred to by everyone as GAY-ta.
* "33":
** Helo states his rank as "lieutenant, junior grade" despite consistently wearing "lieutenant, senior grade" rank insignia.
** Later in the episode, when President Roslin and Dr. Baltar are discussing cutting off communications with the Olympic Carrier, Baltar uses the term "radio" instead of the in-universe term of "wireless" during the conversation.
*"Scattered": During the scene on Caprica, Helo exclaims "for God Sakes" instead of the Colonial "for Gods' Sakes" or Cylon "for God's Sake".
*"Valley of Darkness': When Apollo, Kat and others are searching the ship for weapons a Centurion turns the corner and Kat says "Jesus".
*"Downloaded": In the Miniseries, Boomer claims that her parents died while she was very young, regarding the accident at Troy, which is later supported by dialogue in "Flesh and Bone". In "Downloaded" she explains that she received a gift from her mother when she left for the Fleet academy.
*"Hero": The episode places the flashback events one year prior to the Cylon attack. However, this conflicts with earlier information that Adama served on Galactica for several years, Tyrol under him for at least five years and Gaeta for three years. For more details, see Hero#Analysis.
*"Unfinished Business": When Adama is down in his corner and bleeding badly, Roslin says "coagulant for the swelling, ice for the bleeding". This should be the other way around.

Crew Visible
*A member of the production crew, possibly a boom operator, is visible on screen in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II". He can be seen behind the damaged wall behind the display of the Arrow of Apollo.
*In "Flight of the Phoenix" another camera operator can be briefly seen after the fight between Tyrol and Helo, as Tyrol walks to the Raptor to sit on its wing.

The Raptor is a vehicle utilized by the Colonial military. While it is designed to perform multiple roles, the Raptor most commonly takes part in reconnaissance and scouting operations.
However, given the relatively small size of the craft, this figure seems unrealistically high. In comparison, large military helicopters like the Mi-24 Hind or the CH-53 Sea Stallion weigh approximately 10-15 metric tons.</ref>
| wingspan= 18.34
}}

Overview
The Raptor is usually operated by a crew of two (one pilot and one ECO), has synthetic gravity on board, and is controlled by means of a fly-by-wire system (Rapture). It is capable of atmospheric flight and is also equipped with a short-range FTL engine, allowing it to make short faster-than-light hops. Due to its size and shape, a Raptor is not launched from a battlestar's launch tube, rather, it deploys from the forward end of a flight pod. The vehicle has been a mainstay of the Colonial fleet for over 40 years, having entered service sometime prior to the twelfth year of the first Cylon War (Razor Flashbacks, Episode 3).

As a scout, Raptors can:
*Undertake short and medium-range scans to detect electromagnetic, heat or other signatures from other vessels
*Scan planetary surfaces for signs of life, energy output, or to locate and assess mineral deposits ("Water", "The Hand of God")
*Scout ahead of its parent warship in other planetary or celestial systems for any signs of hostile intent or stellar conditions prior to the parent ship's arrival (Miniseries)
*Undertake search & rescue operations after an engagement with Cylon forces.

When scouting, Raptors can operate independently, or in concert with other Raptors and Vipers (The Hand of God).

As an ECM platform, the Raptor contains a full suite of electronic countermeasure and monitoring tools, enabling it to:
*Jam wireless or relay transmissions (by wireless or optically) from other spacecraft (Miniseries, "33")
*Scramble control signals used by guided weapons (Miniseries)
*Undertake IFF operations for Viper squadrons (Miniseries)

In addition to reconnaissance and scouting, the Raptor can also undertake the following roles:
*Airborne warning & control and electronic countermeasures platform supporting Viper operations (Miniseries, "33")
*Marine assault craft ("Bastille Day", "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II", "Pegasus")
*Ambulance / evac vehicle (Miniseries)
*General purpose transport ("Flesh and Bone", "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down", "Home, Part II")
*Combat Search and Rescue ("Fragged", "Resurrection Ship, Part II")
*Secure communication with other vessels (33)

In the transport role, a Raptor is capable of carrying around eight to ten adults in addition to the two-person crew. In the assault role, it can carry a squad of some eight equipped Marines (Bastille Day).

Atmospheric Operations
The Raptor is designed for atmospheric as well as space-based operations. However, a critical element for atmospheric operations is that to remain airborne requires fuel: once in an atmosphere, the engines must be run constantly to maintain lift and to hover. Depending on the composition of the atmosphere itself, this can place severe strain on the Raptor's engines (You Can't Go Home Again).

Due to their overall configuration and bulk, Raptors may also suffer from poor handling at low speeds, and rely heavily on directed thrust to remain airborne.

FTL Operations
A Raptor seems to be able to make at least ten, and probably at least 20 FTL jumps before refueling as seen in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I". However, these Raptors had been carrying more than a typical amount of fuel for that mission.

Life Support
The main flight deck / cabin of a Raptor is fully pressurized. However, crews operate in flight suits and helmets to help protect them against any hull breach (Miniseries). The cabin can also be depressurized and used in space rescue operations. Re-pressurization takes 10 seconds ("You Can't Go Home Again", "A Day in the Life"). The forward pilot and co-pilot seats can eject in an emergency as the forward canopy is blown away prior to the ejection (Dirty Hands).

Propulsion
*2x sublight engines mounted aft
*1x small-scale FTL system
*RCS points

Armament
Offensive
Raptors are normally unarmed as they make for a poor general-purpose fighter. The craft have an internal weapons bay capable of holding both offensive and defensive weapons. They are also capable of carrying heavy external armaments on four wing hardpoints, two wingtip hardpoints, and two fuselage hardpoints on the sides of the Raptor's body. Known weapons carried include:
*nuclear missiles
*bombs/munitions pods
*quad racks of missiles
*multiple-tube rocket batteries mounted on the fuselage points
*external cannons

Defensive
The Raptor's contours provide it a reduced DRADIS signature to avoid detection. In addition, the craft carry an assortment of pods to aid in communications or defense as well as electronic countermeasures such as a jigger.
*Up to 6 decoy drones
*Up to 4 communication drones
*Up to 4 sets of flares
*Up to 4 chaff pods

Layout
The Raptor is an angular vehicle built for purpose, not style. The forward section of the Raptor contains a flight cabin with adjacent seats for the pilot and ECO (who occupies the rear section of the vehicle during non-military operations). The flight cabin is directly connected to the main body of the vehicle, where bulkhead-mounted columns of electronics sensory equipment are found. A large canopy at the bow provides favorable forward and side visibility for the crew, and is beneficial when a quick scan of immediate surroundings is required.

A large hydraulic door mounted to the port side of the vehicle provides general ingress and egress to the vehicle. In addition, a floor-mounted hatchway provides a further point of egress. The central door is linked to a pressurized docking skirt that can be extended from the underside of a Raptor, enabling it to dock to the hulls of other vessels. In the case of an assault, marines can use the skirt to breech a hull and board a hostile vessel (Bastille Day).

Aft of the pressurized area are the FTL engine and main sublight engines. Port and starboard stub wings provide additional lift during atmospheric flight, and winglets reduce drag and provide step access to the wings and hull. RCS thrusters are placed throughout the craft for landing, maneuvering and stabilization (Miniseries).

Notes
* "Raptor" is a Latin word meaning bird of prey.
*Commonly seen Raptor pilots include Lt. Sharon "Athena" Agathon and Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson (who also serves as an ECO).
*Boomer blames a malfunctioning gimbal for a rough landing in the Miniseries.
*The design of the Raptor originally began as this sketch. "Sketches like this are great for selling a concept," explains production designer Richard Hudolin. "The Raptor is derived from an Apache helicopter and we wanted to give it a retro feel, a nuts-and-bolts look, to give the impression that in its time it was the best of the best, but now its time is almost over."
*The design of the Raptor was based on the US Army's Apache helicopter. Ronald D. Moore thinks of it "as analogous to the Navy's EA-6 Prowler (a variant of the A-6 Intruder popularized in Flight of the Intruder)."

Making the Raptor fly
Richard Hudolin explains: "The Raptor is made out of foam on a steel frame. We built it so that we could have people safely in there as a 100ft crane picks it up and swings it around. The actors were a little bit surprised: 'Oh, my God, it goes up that high!'"

It's custom-built and then it's painted. We have painters who are literally standing by on the day to add to it before the camera rolls [the wires are removed digitally later in post production]."

"The actors are rehearsing and we have people aging [the Raptor], adding the gunshot hits. One day we had to paint it up as if it had crashed and been on fire - the next day it had to be made pristine again."
Specialist Socinus is a deckhand aboard battlestar Galactica assigned to Chief Galen Tyrol. Near the time of the Cylon Attack on the Twelve Colonies, he is attached to Deck Crew 5, and is responsible for Viper and Raptor maintenance.

Socinus, Prosna, and Cally are late in wrapping one the flight deck crew's two surprise gifts for the retiring Commander William Adama--a photo of young Adama and his two sons, Lee and Zak found by Prosna in the Colonial Fleet archives. When Adama runs into them as he worked on the decommissioning ceremony speech, Socinus covers up their nervousness in hastily hiding the gift photo by complaining about the leaks they had to patch on the windows that cover the now-pressurized starboard flight pod, which houses a museum of relics from the Cylon War (Miniseries).

In the aftermath of Fleet's escape from Ragnar Anchorage, Socinus appears to be located in a records room on Galactica, tasked with gathering contact information from other crewmembers on the battlestar who hope of gaining any information on loved ones missing in the nuclear destruction of the Twelve Colonies. When Anastasia Dualla, a citizen from Sagittaron, asks how many others from her colony are identified in the Fleet, Socinus, his voice filled with fatigue, tells the petty officer that there are 5,251 Sagittarons alive, but photos can't be transmitted around the Fleet to aid in locating them yet. He directs her place her photo of her family with his group or in an adjoining hallway-turned-memorial, filled with shrines and pictures of missing or lost friends and family (33).

In the process of an investigation of a bombing by a copy of Aaron Doral using stolen ordinance from one of Galactica's arms lockers, Socinus is charged with "conspiracy and collusion with a Cylon agent" and arrested by Master-At-Arms Sergeant Hadrian. Aware that Tyrol and Valerii were having intimate relations at the time, Socinus covers for Tyrol and falsely claims that he left open a hatch combing to causeway C and to the arms locker by accident.

It was likely Valerii's sleeper Cylon personality that entered through that hatch combing, leaving it open so a copy of Aaron Doral could gain access to the explosives.

Commander Adama doubts Socinus' actions (being aware of Tyrol and Valerii's relationship). Tyrol confesses to Adama that he was with Valerii at the time of the bombing, with the deck gang covering for him. This did not result in Socinus' release, as he did lie before the tribunal.

Socinus is released on parole for the scout mission to Kobol (Kobol's Last Gleaming, Pt. I) by request of Tyrol due to the extreme short-handedness of experienced crew. He becomes stranded on Kobol with the rest of the survivors of Raptor 1.

Socinus sustains critical injuries including severe smoke inhalation during the crash. He is treated with serisone to prevent fluid from building up in his lungs. Despite the efforts of Tarn, Cally and Galen Tyrol, (Scattered) to acquire another medkit from the crashsite to help keep him alive, Socinus' injuries are too severe. In the end, Tyrol euthanizes Socinus by morpha overdose to save him from a slow and agonizing death (Valley of Darkness).
The two tags presumably contain the rank, name, and serial number of the soldier, as well as their ship or troop assignment.
In the event of the soldier's death, identification tags on the soldier's body aid in identification, particularly if damage to the soldier's body renders the body difficult or impossible to identify. Soldiers retrieve the tags from a body if possible during combat if unable to return with the dead soldier's body, as did Chief Galen Tyrol for soldiers Tarn and Crashdown, for return to a superior officer later (Fragged).

Captain Kelly was the somber recipient of nearly 85 identification tags from dead Galactica crewmen trapped in the port flight pod when it was vented to space by order of Colonel Tigh to prevent a catastrophic ship explosion (Miniseries).

Several types of uniforms are used within the Colonial Fleet and Colonial Marine Corps.

Colonial Fleet
Fleet Officers
A single-breasted dark blue duty uniform is used by officers (dark lighting sometimes makes them appear almost black, but they have been referred to as "blues" in dialog, seen in better lighting, etc). The left side of the uniform jacket folds over the right and is secured by column of buttons.

It has large patches on the shoulders which are a darker shade of blue than the rest of the uniform. A round patch depicting the Colonial seal and including the wearer's ship's name together with its Battlestar Group is worn on the left shoulder. Two rank insignia are worn on the jacket collar.

Pilot qualification wings are worn over the breast pocket on the left. These exist in two variations. "Junior Wings" with two chevrons on a golden diamond and small swept-back wings to the sides, and "Senior Wings" with larger outstreched wings and an additional silver lining behind the diamond. The latter are awarded for extensive experience in flying small craft.
<br clear="both" />
Fleet officer uniforms have a colored piping around the edges, which denote the rank of the wearer:

Junior Officers:

*Ensign to Major - a single white line - Example

Senior Officers:

*Colonel - red line on outer edge, white line on inner edge - Example
*Commander - red line on outer edge, gold line on inner edge - Example
*Admiral - red line on outer edge, gold line in the middle, white line on inner edge - Example

The officers' dress uniform, known as Dress Grays, is modeled after the duty uniform, except for a few key differences. It is gray, lacks a pocket or shoulder patches, features a sash to which flight wings and decorations are affixed, and is secured by a single clasp rather than a column of buttons. Epaulettes are worn at the left shoulder. Senior officers' uniforms also feature a dark gray or bronze bar around the neck. While the duty uniform is a tunic that tucks in at the belt, the dress uniform is actually an overcoat which extends below the hips and features an external belt made of the same material as the sash. White gloves are worn as part of the Dress Gray uniform.

Officers can also use the green fatigue uniform for non-formal occasions.

Fleet Pilot Flight Suits
Flight suits with left sleeve pockets are used by flight-qualified crew (pilots, ECOs and the like). The flight suit is a life-support garment and can sustain the life of the pilot in hostile environments up to and including total vacuum and freezing temperature. Flight suits also have a metal collar that is attached to maintain an airtight seal between the flight suit and a helmet. Often, when not on a mission pilots wear the suit with the top half rolled down and hanging at their waist, revealing the t-shirt and tank top they wear underneath. It also has been used to make an air-tight seal in a vessel by filling in a hole in the hull ("You Can't Go Home Again"). Pilots and ECOs wear several patches on their flight suits: A patch designating the ship they are assigned to, on the right a patch for what craft they operate, usually a Viper or a Raptor, and a squadron patch, worn on the left breast under the outer layer of the suit. Additionally, the flight suit has a chronometer mounted in a cuff.

Fleet Enlisted Crewmen
Enlisted personnel use a double-breasted green uniform, except on the flight deck where uniforms color-coded according to military occupation specialty are used, as on real-life aircraft carriers (only orange and yellow deck crew overalls have been observed so far).

Colonial Marine Corps
The uniforms used by the Colonial Marines are based on the BDU (see below), only in solid black rather than the digital pattern. Load-bearing vests, helmets, communications gear, knee and elbow pads, gloves and goggles are standard.

Marine NCO's (Non-Commissioned Officers) wear a khaki uniform with a simple row of buttons down the middle, and a down turned collar (on which rank insignia are worn). It has two pockets on the front, one over each breast of the uniform, which are secured by clasps. Like the Fleet officer uniform, it has differently collared patches on the shoulders, but on this they are gray shoulder patches on a khaki uniform.

Also, on the upper right arm a black armband is worn with the word "Security" printed in black letters on a small square of white. Sgt. Hadrian wears one of these uniforms, and during many episodes extras walking in the background in hallways are seen wearing the Marine non-com uniform.

Apparently, there are no surviving Marine command officers left aboard Galactica (and presumably Pegasus), as the only officer seen so far has been Lieutenant Terry Burrell (Sacrifice). Unfortunately, he was in plainclothes, so any further uniform details are lacking.

There is a possibility that the Colonial Marine Corps do utilise digital camouflage uniforms with the Colonial Marine team that was sent to Caprica in the episodes Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I and Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II utilising "woodland" digital camouflage backpacks which gives some credibility that the Colonial Fleet are not the major users of digital camouflage uniforms and that the Colonial Marine Corps utilise and issue digital camouflage uniforms in "woodland" (and possibly "desert") colours for regular Colonial Marine forces like the real-life United States Marine Corps and their MARPAT combat uniforms.

There are a number of possible reasons why the Colonial Marines serving onboard both the Galactica and the Pegasus are not seen wearing digital camouflage uniforms and are seen wearing solid black tactical uniforms. One of the reasons why the Marines that serve with the Fleet are issued black combat uniforms could be due to the Marines' role as security personnel onboard the Battlestars as well as the fact the black combat uniforms are very effective in a darkened combat environment, especially in repelling any Cylon Centurions from raiding the ship (as seen in the Season 2 episode Valley of Darkness).

Ron Moore explained in a blog posting why the Marines do not have much uniform variation; it is primarily a budgetary issue:
:Q: "Why do the "marines" on the show always wear a CQB (close quarters battle) gear loadout in all the episodes? Even in the ones where they are outdoors? Is it possible we might see a different "marine" gear setup? "

:RDM: "It's primarily a budgetary issue. We've got the CQB gear, so it's cheaper and easier to keep using it week after week than it is to rent specific items for every mission or to buy a wide variety of gear for stock. There's also a costume issue in that we don't really have specific Marine uniforms, so we use variations of our existing "naval" uniforms for the Marines and distinguish them mostly through the use of the CQB gear."

Additional notes
Both the officer and enlisted duty uniforms feature large patches on their left shoulders, which display the emblem of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol, and denote what vessel they are serving on. Galactica's crew patch is colored gold, with "Battlestar Galactica BSG 75" written around the seal. Pegasus' crew patch is colored white, with "Battlestar Pegasus BSG 62" written around the seal. For both officers and enlisted crew, rank insignia is affixed to both sides of the collar.

The battle dress utility uniform is an urban digital camouflage pattern of various shades of dark and light grays. It features angled breast and shoulder pockets and lacks abdominal pockets, and the buttons are covered, much like the real-life MARPAT uniforms the United States Marine Corps utilise. The elbows of the battle dress utility feature large patches. The boots are typically not bloused, with the pant legs left hanging over the boots. The uniform features a Mandarin collar which can be worn up for comfort in body armor or in a down position for appearance in other situations. This uniform has been in use in the Colonial Fleet for several decades (Scattered).

The digital camouflage uniforms that are used on Battlestar Galactica appear to be made by the American camouflage clothing company Tru-Spec for the commercial market and come in "woodland", "desert", and "urban" patterns. The Tru-Spec digital camouflage uniforms differ from the official MARPAT uniforms the U.S. Marine Corps utilise with the collar tips on the Tru-Spec uniforms are pointed while the collar tips on the offical MARPAT uniforms are rounded as well as the offical MARPAT uniforms having the emblem of the United States Marine Corps embrodered on the left hand chest pocket and the USMC's emblem imprinted in a small size into the camouflage pattern while the Tru-Spec versions do not have these emblems (The official MARPAT uniforms the U.S. Marine Corps utilise are manufactured by an American camouflage clothing company called Propper and the company makes the MARPAT uniforms exclusively for the U.S. Marine Corps which prevents these uniforms from being sold on the commerical market for civilians). The digital camouflage pattern is the US Army's and the uniforms' design is based on the US Army's - Army Combat Uniform (ACU) and USMC - MARPAT .http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/acu.htm -- http://www.camo-store.com/army_combat_uniform_acu.htm

Black leather boots and hexagonal identification tags are used with all uniforms. All uniforms except for Colonial and Marine BDUs feature left-shoulder patches indicating their assigned Battlestar Group.

A gray sleeveless tee shirt covered by a brown tank top is worn beneath all uniforms, including at least the flight suit, the duty uniforms, BDUs, the deck crew work uniforms, and Dr. Cottle's coat (Miniseries, Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II, You Can't Go Home Again deleted scene). Gray briefs of the same color and material as the tee shirts, either in varying lengths or in different cuts for male and female personnel, are worn under the pants. (Scar)

According to an interview with regular series costume designer Glenne Campbell , "The uniforms are made out of a very specific material, and we own all of that material that there is in existence -- they're not making this stuff anymore". Thus, for BSG fans that want to make their own costumes, it appears that it is technically impossible to make a complete recreation of the military uniforms on the series. As there are only a limited number of uniforms in existence, when someone gets shot the production team usually tries to have it shot in such a way that the costume is undamaged, i.e. when Cally shoots Boomer, there's actually a patch of cloth over the uniform that has the blood-packs underneath, which is painted to blend in with the rest of the uniform.

The digital camouflage pattern and uniforms are the US Army's - Army Combat Uniform (ACU).http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/acu.htm -- http://www.camo-store.com/army_combat_uniform_acu.htm
