Heavily sedated, she begs Starbuck to destroy the machines keeping her and the rest of the farm's victims alive rather than trying to save her. The shock to her system delivered by machines' destruction kills her instantly (The Farm).
Overview
:Admiral Adama re-institutes a military tradition onboard Colonial warships, in which crewmembers disregard rank and fight each other in a boxing ring to relieve tensions aboard ship—tensions which have existed since Galactica discovered New Caprica.

Summary
*The episode begins on Galactica in a boxing ring, where Helo and Lee Adama are exchanging blows. Helo has the advantage, but comments that the major is giving him a rough fight.
*Several flashbacks occur where we see Lee Adama waking up on a planetary surface, bare chested; he sits up slightly, looking around with a confused look on his face.
*Kara Thrace and Samuel Anders finish making love, but when Anders broaches the subject of repairing their marriage, she rebuffs him and leaves her officer's duty locker, throwing the "in use" boots back inside the locker's door.
*Thrace is seen in a flashback, lying outside, her head on a man's bare chest, suddenly startled and frightened.
*Lee Adama is losing his fight as he is distracted by memories of seventeen months ago, or eight months prior to New Caprica's occupation. Eventually, Dr. Cottle, who has been enjoying the fight while monitoring the damage of each boxer, removes Adama from the fight, leaving Helo with the win as Saul Tigh, acting as the referee, calls the match.
*Flashbacks show Lee Adama boarding a Raptor and passionately kissing Anastasia Dualla.
*Admiral Adama arrives to watch the match, as does Thrace, from separate sides of the ring. Thrace comments that a couple of months ago you would have had to roll Apollo into the ring.
*Laura Roslin greets Admiral Adama and happily tells him of her father's love of boxing, which she has inherited.
*Another flashback occurs, with Admiral Adama sitting on New Caprica, his uniform tunic open. He is relaxed and enjoying the moment. Roslin appears and sits by him. Adama compliments her on the color of her dress, while obviously observing her figure as well. She smiles and notices his relaxation, with the sand between his toes. While he corrects her that the soil was "alluvial deposits" from a former river mouth, not sand, Roslin corrects herself but not without another joke about Adama letting his guard down in the beauty of the moment. She says it is good to see him, and he returns the compliment as she squeezes his arm.
*Roslin and Adama, in the present, appear to show the same look of a close friendship while the boxing transitions to Hot Dog, who unwisely challenges Thrace to a match. Hot Dog initially lands a few blows before Thrace KO's the cocky pilot.
*Several flashbacks occur where Thrace, Lee Adama, and Dualla are seen at a dance.
*Another flashback shows Saul Tigh enjoying time with his wife, Ellen Tigh.
*Another flashback with Roslin and Adama, who are drinking alcohol, smoking a psychoactive native plant, and relaxing together. Their conversation continues.
*Anthony Figurski comes up and informs Chief Tyrol that he's having trouble with a gyro on a Raptor. He then asks for permission to stay and watch since he's the only person left on the hangar deck. Adama overhears the conversation and asks Tyrol if he has a down ship. Tyrol brushes off the Admiral's concern stating that they'll "get it tomorrow" and that his crew needs the R&R.
*Adama recalls when Chief Tyrol requests that he and his wife muster out of the ship's fleet to have their child on New Caprica. Adama flatly denies the request, citing Tyrol's obligation to the fleet.
*A later flashback shows Tyrol attempting to convince his wife that staying on Galactica would not be so bad, while the scene changes to Adama and Roslin on the planet, as she discusses how important it was for many people to get on with a regular life.
*Adama changes his mind and accepts Tyrol's request to muster from the service, but appears hurt behind the smile he presents.
*Admiral Adama hands his glasses to Roslin, steps into the ring, and looks at the crowd, which becomes silent. He challenges Tyrol to a match: "Chief, get your fat, lazy ass up here."
*Flashing back, Adama and Roslin lie together outside, watching the night sky. Later, she snuggles closer to his shoulder, her hand on his chest. Both are quite comfortable, and Adama notes briefly how comfortable he was with Roslin so physically close and with the stars overhead.
*Roslin questions whether if this will all last -- the colony, and their respite from the Cylons' chase. She happily resigns herself to the fact that, no matter what the future holds, the present is good to have.
*Admiral Adama's boxing match gets ugly when Adama cold-cocks Tyrol (who has his back turned) as soon as the horn sounds to start the match. Adama appears very edgy.
*The match continues, but Tyrol's anger and youth begins to edge over Adama's experience. During the round's break, Roslin enters the ring, trying to get Adama to quit, but when he refuses, gives him no-nonsense boxing advice. Adama states that he can't win this fight, but doesn't necessarily imply that trying to win is his objective.
*Another flashback, with Thrace and Lee Adama, who are both drunk. Dualla is aboard ship, and Thrace has literally drank Anders, now unconscious, under a nearby table. The two former Viper pilots exchange intimate words and soon find themselves outside of camp, getting very intimate.
*Lee Adama and Kara Thrace have a gratifying sexual session. Afterwards, Adama suggests that they each break up with their respective lovers to become a couple themselves. Adama gets up and happily yells into the nighttime sky that he loves Thrace. Adama urges the giggling and embarrassed Thrace to return the gesture into the sky and that he will continue to yell until she does. In less than full volume, Thrace finally somewhat hesistently yells that "Kara Thrace loves Lee Adama." They then return to lovemaking.
*Thrace awakens, confused, and leaves the area, leaving Adama to awaken some time later, alone.
*Lee Adama returns to camp, where his father tells him that Thrace had found a priest and had married Anders earlier that morning. The young Adama is visibly shaken.
*Lee Adama encounters Thrace and Anders. Adama is still visibly upset but hides it long enough to shake hands with Anders in congratulation and to wish him luck, saying "You're going to need it."
*Recalling the reason for Lee Adama's passion, viewers see Adama and Dualla kissing on the Raptor once more.
*In the present in the boxing ring, Admiral Adama is overcome by Tyrol's fight and is knocked to the mat. Everyone watching is silent in concern, and Tyrol helps the admiral up. With blood streaming down both cheeks, Adama speaks to the crowd, saying that over the last year he had let his crew, his family, become too close, relaxing their mandate and responisibility to the safety of the Fleet. He notes that his weakness led to the loss of lives. Adama wearily informs the crowd that such lax operations will now cease, and leaves the ring, escorted by Dr. Cottle, Roslin, and her entourage.
*The enthusiasm for boxing has been extinguished by Adama's speech, and Tigh calls it off and dismisses the group. Regardless, Thrace challenges Lee Adama to a match by name-calling and an exchange of blows.
*In the ring, with no referee, Major Adama initially takes it easy, but a few well placed blows from Thrace dispatch Adama's reticence. The two begin to bludgeon each other, Thrace adding a kickboxing element to kick Adama and keep him off-balance.
*Anders shows up at the boxing ring to see his wife, Thrace, fighting Adama. As soon as he arrives he asks Dualla, who looks very upset, "What are they doing?" Dualla answers with "What does it look like they're doing?" Anders comments, "It looks like they're trying to kill each other."
*The match soon degenerates into something that the crowd does not enjoy, and many begin to leave. Anders and Dualla stand together, watching the match with no small amount of disappointment, aware of the dark mood between Adama and Thrace, and its history. Anders tells Dualla "I'm outta here," and leaves.
*Too tired and beaten to fully continue fighting, Thrace and Adama fall together in a boxer's hug. Thrace whispers into Adama's ear, "I missed you," and Adama returns the message in kind.

Notes
*Adama and Roslin are smoking a psychoactive drug on New Caprica. The act of drinking and smoking simultaneously is, perhaps not coincidentally, a pastime for Ron D. Moore as he speaks during his podcasts.
**This scene was toned at the request of the network executives. While it is still clear that they are not merely smoking a cigarette, they don't explicitly refer to the substance (Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion Season Three).
*The fights shown (and the winners) are: Helo vs. Apollo (Helo), Starbuck and Hot Dog (Starbuck), Kat and an unknown woman (Kat), Tyrol and William Adama (Tyrol; albeit it is a strong possibility that Adama deliberately threw the fight), Apollo and Starbuck (draw). One other fight is shown with Sergeant Fischer fighting a member of the crew portrayed by mixed martial artist Paul Lazenby (Fischer).
*A fight between Felix Gaeta and Sharon Agathon was discussed in the writers' room. Gaeta was going to bait Sharon into pummeling him due to guilt he still felt as a collaborator. The writers were unable to come up with anything Gaeta might use that would get a rise out of Sharon. This proposed storyline evolved into the Tyrol vs. William Adama fight.
*Earlier statements by the producers indicated that the episode would explain the closeness of Thrace and Tigh in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II". However, the scene was cut. According to the Season Three Companion book, Thrace walked back to the city after sleeping with Lee Adama and found Tigh to be the only person to be still awake. He was still drinking and the two shared drinks, which led to Thrace confessing about the night with Adama. Tigh laughed at that, which made Thrace realize the absurdity of the situation, laughing with him and thus bonding.
*Other scenes cut include Lee Adama's proposal to Dualla after Thrace's marriage to Anders, and Admiral Adama singing a song while relaxing with Roslin (Season 3 Companion).
*The flashbacks were shot earlier when the New Caprica arc was shot and retained to later include them into other episodes. When "Unfinished Business" was written to be about releasing the characters' penned up anger, it was decided to put all flashbacks into a single episode (Season 3 Companion).

Analysis
*This episode confirms what caused the rift between Kara Thrace and Lee Adama. Thrace avoids the notion of feeling too close with Adama by marrying Anders, and Adama returns to Dualla and soon takes to overeating.
**From Thrace's remarks about how Lee Adama doesn't know "when to make his move and when to pull back", it is also possible that she does not feel the same way towards him as he does towards her.
*On New Caprica, Adama and Roslin are as relaxed with each other as the two leaders could be, not necessarily chasing romance, but allowing themselves a moment of mutual relaxation, physical closeness, and contemplation. This level of open affection may have seemed more permissible due to Roslin's status as a private citizen during the Baltar administration, although the two appear to remain good friends even in the present.
*Adama made a similar declaration about tightening military discipline when Pegasus arrived, and immediately thereafter almost started a civil war in an effort to rescue Tyrol and Helo. The inability to maintain emotional detachment from his subordinates has repeatedly proven to be a strong personality trait of his, and it is questionable whether he will be able to manage detachment this time, or for very long. This trait can also be seen in the episode "You Can't Go Home Again" where he risks the whole fleet to save just one pilot - Starbuck.
**Also present in his speech is the continued conviction that the disasters that have befallen humanity can be placed on his shoulders. This sense of guilt seems likely to keep haunting him for the foreseeable future.
*This is the first episode thus far to make New Caprica look like a pleasant place to live. Every other episode on-planet has shown it to be dreary and spartan.
**It is possible that this dramatic change on-screen merely depicts a seasonal change in terms of weather patterns.
*Ships are seen flying in heavy power generation equipment of some kind, suggesting that this and many other colonization resources that were too large to retrieve during the Second Exodus were later abandoned on New Caprica, foretelling an eventual supply shortage.
*Helo's quip about Apollo "fighting like he has it in for me" may have a basis in fact. It was Apollo's plan that Helo's actions derailed (A Measure of Salvation), and some resentment over that would be natural.
*Kara Thrace does not feel obligated to follow rules of engagement when she starts to lose. During her fight with Lee Adama, once it becomes obvious that she stands a good chance of losing she quickly begins using arm locks and kicks to gain an advantage. Once knocked to the ground, she sweeps Adama's legs out from under him. Adama responds by using a grappling hold on Thrace, placing her into a headlock. This is reminiscent of Starbuck's expressed attitude in "Scar" that war is not bound by ideas of honor or fair play.
**It should be clarified that Thrace and Adama's fight takes place after the boxing tournament is officially closed. No referee is in the ring, and no bells are rung to signify rounds, making their bout something of an unregulated fight in any case.
*The population count has risen by one since "Hero". This is almost certainly not Daniel Novacek, since his arrival in the teaser act of the previous episode is accounted for in the population count in that episode; similarly, the nearly 1,700 member crew of Pegasus are instantly added once they are discovered. It is possible that the on-screen figures are more realistic this season, incorporating births and deaths that would naturally continue to happen anywhere but would not be depicted on-screen.

Questions
* What will occur now that Kara Thrace and Lee Adama have begun to mend fences? (Answer)
* What will be the fallout, if any, in Thrace's and Adama's current marriages? (Answer)
* Now that Adama admits to letting the crew get too close to him, will he be harder and stricter on his crew? (Answer 1, 2)
* Did Adama and Roslin have a more intimate encounter than was shown?

Official Statements
* Bodie Olmos discusses his most memorable moment on the series to date:
*: Olmos: My most memorable, was probably, "Unfinished Business". The reason I liked this one so much was because, one I got to work with Robert Young, who I have admired and love to watch him work, with actors. Second, this show a lot of us were on set that episode and it is just fun when we are all there. Many times, we are all kind of separated and don't really work together on the same day even. So it was just nice being with every one, and also I have never done a boxing sequence before and is something I always thought would be interesting to see how they are done. Not to mention the fact that I get knocked out by Starbuck, that was pretty fun!!

* Bodie Olmos reflects on his initial reaction to the scene where he is K.O.'ed by Starbuck:
*: Oddly enough, I was a little annoyed, but then I was all "What the heck, take one for the team." She's pretty tough anyways!!

Noteworthy Dialogue
*After his fight with Chief Tyrol:
:Admiral Adama: When you step on this deck, you be ready to fight, or you dishonor the reason why we're here. Now remember this; When you fight a man, he's not your friend. Same goes when you lead men. I forgot that once. I let you get too close, all of you. I dropped my guard. I gave some of you breaks, let some of you go, before the fight was really over. I let this crew and this family disband, and we paid the price in lives. That can't happen again.
::::Probably right. I just got excited. --Noindiecred 15:01, 10 November 2006 (CST)
:::The "cigarettes" they are both smoking are--we are given to understand in the commentary podcast, and by the way that Adama handles his--a bit... um... relaxing. Sharing them suggests a certain amount of camaraderie and "letting their hair down". One is left wondering what the degree of social acceptance is for such things. Here, it would be a bit unusual for an admiral and ex-President. --Brons 14:12, 3 December 2006 (CST)
::::Roslin may have smoked, but she never inhaled. --Slander 10:35, 4 December 2006 (CST)
:::::I think it's safe to say that the attitude of the 12 Colonies towards drugs is a bit more relaxed than our Earth societies, in general. After all, Roslin was actively taking a known hallucinogen DURING her actual presidency. What's a little taste of the New Caprican loco weed in the face of that? ;) I also recall an incident with Kat and stim abuse that was generally brushed off (she was grounded for a short time but there appeared to be no long-term repercussions.)
Regarding the comment that "Kara Thrace does not feel obligated to follow rules of engagement". Do we know that for sure? They certainly appeared to be boxing and not kick-boxing, but do we really know that they are playing by Marquis of Queensbury rules? Or might the kicks be a bit more acceptable in their tradition?

Perhaps I'm questioning how close their culture and ours are more than usual after seeing Adama toss away that roach, but as I was watching, I wasn't sure exactly what the "rules of engagement" were for several reasons:

*They never call it "boxing"--always "fighting".
*Lee had his tags on, and addressed her as "Captain" when he challenged Kara. Are they outside the "tradition"?
*Kara was barefoot while fighting. Does that imply anything?
*Kara threw the first kick moderately early. Lee responded with a choke hold.

--Brons 15:27, 3 December 2006 (CST)

:I went with the explination that it simply wasn't an official fight. The tourney was over and they didn't have Tigh as referree anymore. So as far as Kara is concerned, everything was allowed. --Serenity 15:36, 3 December 2006 (CST)
::Though, Starbuck did hit Hot Dog when he was "half-way" down. I think Starbuck is more concerned with winning and less concerned with following the rules to the letter of the T. == Slow Talk Page ==

I've noticed that the Talk page for this episode has been pretty slow. I think this is because of the quality of the writing for this episode, in addition to its character-driven nature. The last few episodes have been a bit lackluster, in my opinion, but they've been great for generating debate. In this episode, there was little doubt what, exactly, was going on in each scene.

Kudos to the writing staff for this episode, and I'm going to also echo FrankieG's sentiment that this episode's article was really well-done.
:Yes, there was so much character drama, versus technical matters, where the talk page usually gets a beating. I think also that many people were interested in what Adama and Roslin were drinking, smoking or doing (as in each other), and I participated in a lot of that. == Kat vs Racetrack. Or not? ==

I just read this interview with Luciania Carra and she says:

"Yeah I was boxing the brawny girl. The brawny woman. [...] You know, she was written in the script as "The Brawny Bitch", so that's who I was fighting. I'm assuming it was somebody that Kat had a beef with. She just needed to get her aggression out, they were put in the boxing ring, and fought it all out."

So it doesn't seem to be Racetrack. The two can't be seen that clearly, but can someone, maybe with access to a HD copy, check it? Because if it's true, then the info here is wrong --Serenity 13:49, 12 January 2007 (CST)
Physically, it is an imposing concrete sructure with a motorized gate of steel bars. Number Five solicits Jammer to inform on the New Caprica Resistance inside the facility (Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance).
Saul Tigh is incarcerated in the center until his wife fornicates with a copy of Cavil as part of an exchange to free her husband (Occupation).

Laura Roslin is detained briefly there while being interviewed by Gaius Baltar about the resistance's suicide bombing (Precipice).

Kara Thrace is held captive in a furnished cell where she is forced to live with Leoben Conoy for the duration of the Cylon occupation (Occupation).

During the Battle of New Caprica the prison is stormed by the New Caprica Resistance and Colonial Marines under the command of Samuel Anders and Gunnery Sergeant Mathias, freeing all inmates (Exodus, Part II).

Caw: caps

The first season of the re-imagined series of Battlestar Galactica kept track of the episode timeline meticulously, announcing the number of days since the Fall of the Twelve Colonies during the first scene on Cylon-occupied Caprica in each episode.

While this convention was abandoned during the second season, the timeline can still be established based on various date references scattered throughout episode dialogue. However, when the available information is compiled, it becomes clear that there is an discontinuity of approximately 75 days in the middle of season two.

Summary
There is a roughly 75 day discontinuity between Roslin's date of death as projected during the first half of the season (day 114, or at most a few weeks later) and the actual moment of her would-be-death (a few days after Day 189).

Consequences
This discontinuity cannot be plausibly explained or "fanwanked". It is not simply a matter of Cottle's medical opinion being incorrect by a span of three months, since there are numerous other contradictions which arise from the error:

*Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy) goes from doing sit-ups in a tight tank-top in "Pegasus" (consistant with a pregnancy in its first trimester) to very visibly pregnant in "Epiphanies".
*The Presidential election, predicted at 7 months after "Bastille Day" (placing the election around Day 222) and then 6 months after the end of "Colonial Day" (placing it around Day 229) ultimately take place in "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II", at approximately Day 283.

In short, it appears that the missing 75 days have not merely been glossed over, but were excised entirely. Valerii's pregnancy progresses by 75 days, but Roslin's cancer does not; elections are delayed by two months without explanation; and while all other references to the timeline have advanced by approximately two and a half months, no actual events during that span have been alluded to.

Some insight into the nature of the error is given in Ron Moore's podcast for for "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I". Moore states that he believes/remembers that "Bastille Day" said that the elections were due "in nine months", even though the dialog in that episode actually said "seven months". It appears that Moore has simply forgotten the earlier episodes' statements.

Full Evidence
Season 2.0
Events of the first half of Season 2 can be dated with a good deal of certainty from the last episode of Season 1 as follows:

Scattered, Valley of Darkness, and Fragged
These three episodes clearly take place during the same day as the first season cliffhanger, "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II", which is explicitly stated to take place 51 days after the Cylon attack.

The Farm
This episode begins with William Adama resuming command of Galactica. In the episode "Final Cut", D'anna Biers states that Saul Tigh was in command of Galactica for "over a week". The pragmatics of the phrase "over a week" imply at most a 10 day span, since 11 days is "almost two weeks", and absolutely rule out any time span longer than 13 days.

Thus, "The Farm" probably begins no later than day 61, and absolutely no later than day 64.

Resistance
The majority of "Resistance" appears to cover a two-day period. At the beginning of the episode, Lee Adama asks Anastasia Dualla, "How's my father today?". The tone of their conversation implies that this is not the first time he's asked, as does Ronald D. Moore in his podcast:
:"...they've established this routine each day of her happening to fall in with him as he's on his way back to the brig."
Lee's first opportunity to have this conversation would have been the morning of day 52. If this conversation has happened at least once already, that puts the earliest possible date for this episode at day 53.

A comparatively early date for this episode is also suggested by Tigh's interrogation of Chief Tyrol at the beginning of the episode, which cannot have taken place very long after his rescue from Kobol in the previous episode, at the end of day 51.

Another limit can be placed on this episode based on a scene cut from beginning of "The Farm" in which Roslin states that it's been an "entire week" since her escape, which takes place at the end of this episode. Since, as established above, "The Farm" cannot begin any later than day 64, "Resistance" cannot end any later than day 57.

Thus, the earliest (and most likely) dates for "Resistance" are days 53-54, with the latest possible dates being days 56-57.

Flight of the Phoenix
Cally is detained for "discharging a firearm without permission" and sentenced to thirty days in the brig on the evening of day 54. Cally is released at the beginning of "Flight of the Phoenix", dating the beginning of this episode to day 84.

In this episode Dr. Cottle updates Laura Roslin's prognosis, stating that she has one month to live, "at the outside". The actual date of this diagnosis is difficult to determine. Not much is accomplished on the Blackbird's construction during the time span, but it's likely that the Chief spent some time working up blueprints before beginning work. All that can be said with certainty is that Roslin's projected date of death is sometime after day 114, but apparently not more than a few weeks at most.

Season 2.5
Following the mid-season break, it became apparent that a fairly large period of time could not be accounted for.

Resurrection Ship, Part I
In this episode, Helena Cain offhandedly asks "Is this what the two of you have been doing for the past six months? Debating the finer points of colonial law?"

Epiphanies
President Roslin is transferred to the Galactica at the beginning of this episode, which is explicitly stated to begin some 189 days after the Cylon attack. As her death draws nigh, Adama notes that she "has been aboard Galactica for the last few days".

An indication that a significant amount of time has passed since the Resurrection Ship episodes is made by Dr. Baltar, who tells his internal Six that "it was weeks ago," probably referring to his request that she leave him alone to work with the Pegasus Cylon prisoner. This can account for anything from 14 to 24 days--anything longer and he likely would have said "a month"--of the approximately 75 unaccounted for. Roslin's loss of function shown at the beginning of this episode is more believable given this timeframe.

The Captain's Hand
When asked to make a projection on the fleet's population trend, Baltar states that he "made an initial calculation on these figures over seven months ago". We might speculate that this was done concurrently with the calculations he presented in "Water", putting this episode at roughly day 235, but in any case no earlier than day 225.

Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I
Tom Zarek comments that people of the fleet have been "cooped up in metal boxes for nine months", putting this episode at roughly Day 270.

Downloaded
The episode "Downloaded" must be dealt with specially, as not only is it rife with errors, it references dates on both sides of the discontinuity.

The episodes begins by telling us that it's been nine months since the Cylon attack, putting it at roughly day 270. Shortly thereafter, we are informed that Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy) was shot "ten weeks ago", putting the episode at day 124. However, the production team has acknowledged that this "10 weeks ago" statement was impossible, and changed it to "10 weeks later" for the DVD and international releases.

Later on, a copy of Number Three says that Kara Thrace was on Caprica only a "a couple weeks ago". Thrace left Caprica in "The Farm" with Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy), who at that time was not yet visibly pregnant. The fact that she actually gives birth in this episode, and that she appears as pregnant as she should if it were actually taking place on day 270, badly contradicts Three's comment.
I discovered Battlestar Galactica late 2006, almost on accident. I clicked the wrong link on a download and got this instead of some Star Trek. I watched the miniseries and was somewhat impressed, but I didn't really start to watch until this summer. Man, did I miss out! At present, I'm powering my way through the aired seasons to be ready for season four in November or January or whatever the case may be. Season 3 and webisodes, here I come!
It's lucky I have cable at school.
Thanks to everyone for their help with templates and all that!

Overview
: Captain Lee Adama, battling haunting demons of his own from a spurned love lost on Caprica, investigates the murder of new Pegasus commander Jack Fisk, and uncovers a black market that strains the resources of the Fleet.

Summary
*The recovered President Laura Roslin, discusses her plan to eliminate black market problems within the Fleet in Adama's quarters with Admiral Adama, Pegasus Commander Fisk, and Dr. Baltar.
*When he arrives back in his quarters on Pegasus (Cain's old quarters) Fisk is garroted by several black market gangsters. One in particular stands out as a well-dressed "businessman".
*Lee Adama, severely depressed since his ejection from the Blackbird, has apparently been nurturing a relationship on Cloud 9 with a woman named Shevon, who has a young daughter named Paya.
*In a "morning after" talk, Lee and Shevon talk in tones that hint towards his wanting of a serious relationship. Shevon appears to dodge these, and requests 100 extra cubits as Lee is leaving since he "stayed the night".
*In flashback scenes, we see a past love of Lee Adama on Caprica. The scenes revolve around a rendezvous between Lee and this girl, which resolves with her running away. The details and intensity of these flashbacks increase as the episode progresses.
*Apollo finds a small fortune of luxury goods in Fisk's closet, including a gold bracelet with the monogram "E.T" on it. Apollo realizes it's Ellen Tigh's, and confronts Col. Saul Tigh about it in his quarters. Tigh says that it was he and not his wife who traded it to Fisk for good liquor, fruit, etc. for Ellen and himself. Tigh explains that Fisk was deeply involved in using Pegasus as a hub to fence black market goods.
*Dr. Cottle's autopsy finds cubits jammed in Fisk's mouth, perhaps as a warning. Adama realizes that Fisk was trying to undercut one of his black market suppliers, and they took revenge.

*On Colonial One, President Roslin, piecing together her near-death recollections of Caprica, becomes aware of Baltar's pre-holocaust contact with a copy of the Humanoid Cylon known to the Fleet as "Shelly Godfrey" and "Gina". She candidly asks Dr. Baltar, her vice president, to resign. While he never wanted any political power in his life or the office at first, he wants to stay VP now. Roslin tells him it's not an offer she'll make again, but he leaves anyway.
*Off duty, working out in Galactica's gym, Anastasia Dualla comes to Lee Adama to bravely ask if their flirtation while working out is leading somewhere. Adama has no idea what to say, and Dualla takes the quiet hint.
*Lee Adama rushes to Shevon's quarters on Cloud 9 after she calls for help. He finds the bruised Shevon and Paya, and decides to take them to Galactica, but is ambushed by thugs, who nearly garrote him. As he is held within a breath of his life, he is confronted by a well-dressed, blunt "businessman", who warns him to back off of the investigation.
*After the beating, Apollo notices the corpse of the man that garroted Fisk. Tom Zarek drops by the scene in Shevon's room later, and discusses the black market with Apollo.
*Zarek points out that the black market does get supplies where they are needed. Nonetheless, Zarek mentions the central hub of the black market, Prometheus, a ship so lawless it's practically "off the grid", where you can supposedly get anything. Zarek gives a name to the "businessman" -- Phelan -- and tells Apollo that he probably took Shevon there. Additionally, he points out that Phelan has given Lee the murderer -- the thug with a bullet in his head -- and that it should be considered "a way out."
*On Prometheus, alone, Lee Adama searches and finds Paya and other children locked up.
*Apollo encounters Phelan in the Prometheus's bar. Apollo warns that Galactica is fully aware of his location, and that the battlestar would vent Prometheus's air into space unless he gets Shevon and Paya back, and the black market is shut down.
*Phelan counters that the Fleet needs the black market; it's like a pressure valve. Whenever a ship falls behind in the supply schedule, the black market fills the need. Phelan states that they sell all things to fill all wants, including child prostitution. Adama is horrified. Shevon is dragged out and admits to her work for Phelan as a prostitute.
*Taking a gun from one of Phelan's guards, Adama threatens Phelan about the black market crossing the line and after several flashbacks, shoots him in the chest.
*Apollo turns to Phelan's guards, also in shock, and tells them that he's not going to shut down all black market trade because the Fleet needs it for vital supplies whether he likes it or not. However, they continue their business at his whim only. If there are more killings, if they hold back essential medicines or use children, he will annihilate them without restraint.
*Shevon rejects Apollo, telling him he doesn't really care for her and only sees her as a replacement for the girl he left on Caprica.
*Back on Colonial One, the Adamas present their reports to the President. Roslin is upset that Apollo did not shut down the black market, but Apollo counters that they will never have a perfect system and there will always be a black market.

Notes
*Ron D. Moore admits in his podcast that this episode did not live up to his expectations. The long complaint about failed goals he made in his blog was actually about this episode.
*Survivor count for this episode is 49,597. That is one less than last week's episode, "Epiphanies" in which a suicide bomber attacks the tylium refinery. However, bodies are seen blasted into space, and Adama actually says in dialog "people are dead", so more than one should have died. However, this number is occasionally offset by new babies born in the Fleet, which can account for some small discrepancies.
*Zarek notes that he is the representative of the Astral Queen, although in "Colonial Day", he was elected to represent the colony of Sagittaron. Given the nature of the conversation, however, he may have been speaking of his status as de facto leader of the Astral Queen instead of his political position.
*As seen in "Final Cut", there are occasionally meetings of all the ships in the Fleet.
*Bill Duke (Phelan) also appeared in the sci-fi film Predator, and played Bolivar Trask in X-Men 3.
*Prostitution was legal in the Twelve Colonies; this is a nod to socialators of the Original Series (Podcast:Black Market).
*Apollo pilots a Raptor alone to get to the Prometheus. As also seen in "Pegasus" and "Resurrection Ship, Part I", he is qualified to fly both Vipers and Raptors.
*John Mann, the actor who portrayed Jackson Spencer, the original Galactica CAG in the Miniseries, makes a second appearance in this episode (in a deleted scene) as Linden, who directs Apollo to Phelan
*Much of the regular cast, including Kara Thrace, Sharon Valerii, Helo, Felix Gaeta, Galen Tyrol, and Cally do not appear in this episode.

Analysis
*This is the third episode to use a "flash forward" introduction to the storyline as a hook (in medias res); this was also used just two episodes previous in "Resurrection Ship, Part II". Ron Moore has said that the device was added after he was disappointed with initial cuts of the episode to try to add suspense. The narrative technique also appeares in "Act of Contrition".
*To some viewers Apollo's recent angst may appear as rather hastily added to the character. However, another facet of it is addressed in "Resurrection Ship, Part II" when he admits to Starbuck, "I didn't wanna come back alive."
*The Apollo-Dualla relationship, a story thread running since "Resistance", appears to have been stopped very abruptly, with only Adama's emotional state as an excuse in ending their flirtation. The manner in which Dualla and Adama speak to each other seems out of character. Dualla later appears with Billy Keikeya, where he says little, and Dualla seems ready to give Adama up and continue things more seriously with Billy.
*Ron Moore stated the relationship was introduced because the writers thought it would make an interesting love triangle.
*It is interesting to note Shevon's final reaction to and rejection of Apollo. Given the dire straits a person in her position would find themselves in, one might think that she would be grateful for the patronage of a (relatively) powerful and generally decent man like Apollo, regardless of whom he saw her as a substitute for.
** Shevon's rejection may merely have been choosing to be used on a level she was familiar with (working in the black market) as opposed to an unfamiliar or discomfiting one (as Apollo's replacement girlfriend by proxy).
*Like many murder mysteries, the episode appears to be without a special point or purpose other than to unravel the mystery. Perhaps the writers were attempting to stress the 'realism' of living in a "rag tag fugitive fleet" of civilians, in that there would probably be gangsters carving out fiefdoms who would run drug, medicine, and prostitution rackets. The solution is self-contained, as the "good guy" promptly kills the leaders and shuts it down in its current state. All in all, the story merely serves as a vehicle to explore Lee Adama as a character.
*The show takes a really dark turn when it makes mention of child prostitution, even if this isn't anything that several modern police-dramas haven't done already, and nothing is "shown"; a character just mentions in dialog that he runs a ring of this.
*The storyline of Apollo's pregnant girlfriend on Caprica is unusual in that this episode is the first mention of such a crucial backstory thread. Considering the extent to which the memory seems to weigh Lee down, it seems contrived to introduce it so late in the series, especially when there are other circumstances that could have been used to explore his emotional turmoil. In addition, confusion arose concerning Shevon's line about Adama's old flame "want(ing) to give you a child." That is, many viewers may not have understood that Adama's old love was actually already pregnant.
*Jack Fisk being killed as easily as Cain is implausible. Admiral Adama is now escorted by Marines at all times. With Cain's killer still on the loose, it would rational for Fisk to have some paranoia.
**Phelan and his men clearly had access to Fisk already and might have boarded Pegasus claiming to be on official business.
**Considering that an attempt on Adama's life has already happened once, Marines should have been escorting him from the very beginning. With Fisk and Cain now both dead, there may be a standing Fleet or Colonial military order in place that automatically activates, similar to such real-world orders.
*The scene between Baltar and Roslin is interesting in its scripting and acting. Roslin is determined to be extremely polite, forceful, and cheery despite the fact that she is making a power play and now knows Baltar has something to do with the fall of the Colonies.
*Barring a special effects error, it appears that flight operations from Galacticas starboard flight pod have recommenced, since Racetrack is piloting Raptor 129 on approach to the starboard flight pod, bringing Lee Adama back from Cloud 9.

Questions
*How were the black market gangsters able to penetrate Pegasuss security, causing the death of its second commanding officer in a short period? Were they able to enter and leave without notice, because Fisk's dealing with them were general knowledge?
*At the end of the episode, Zarek is walking in a crowd on the Prometheus, with one of Phelan's old men nearby. Is Zarek going to try to fill the power vacuum left in the wake of Phelan's death? Is it just showing how everyone needs to use the black market, even someone like Tom Zarek who claims to wash his hands of involvement with it?
*Did Zarek somehow set up the entire incident to get Apollo to kill Phelan for him, allowing him to take over control of the black market?
*The woman that William Adama discusses with his son. Is it Shevon, the prostitute (the obvious, close-at-hand issue)? Or, is it the girl back on Caprica (the deeper-seated, much more affecting issue)?
*Has Roslin not openly accused Baltar of collaborating with the Cylons after "Epiphanies" because she lacks proof?
*Who will take command of Pegasus following Fisk's death? (Answer)
*Where does the black market get all its goods, given the finite supplies on the Fleet?

Official Statements
*In an interview in issue #197 of TV Zone, James Callis (Dr. Gaius Baltar) said: "Mary and I had a great deal of fun doing a scene where the President tells Baltar in no uncertain terms that she doesn’t like him and wants him to resign. He’s not very happy about that."
Overview
:A potential battle between Galactica and Pegasus is only averted by Lt. Thrace's return from her recon mission with important tactical information on the unknown Cylon ship.

Summary
*Continuing from the previous episode, a swarm of Vipers from Galactica and Pegasus move into weapons range of each other after Commander Adama challenges Admiral Cain over the imminent execution of two of his crewmen. Neither commanders are willing to order "weapons free" to fire. The Vipers are reduced to playing "chicken", attempting to force each other to fire — or collide.
*Cain orders Captain Cole Taylor to arrest and relieve Lieutenant Lee "Apollo" Adama, who is co-piloting a Raptor about to leave on the recon mission. The Raptor pilot draws his sidearm on Lt. Adama and orders him into the rear of the Raptor.
*Flying the Blackbird, which goes undetected by the Cylon fleet, Kara Thrace flies right into the superstructure of the Unknown Cylon Ship, taking pictures along the way. Before the Cylons can detect her, she jumps away.
*Confined to the rear of the Raptor, Lt. Adama sends an encrypted text message to Thrace.
*Leading Galactica's Viper squadron, Louanne "Kat" Katraine continually requests clearance from Commander Adama to fire on Pegasus Vipers, but he refuses.
*Thrace arrives in the Blackbird. After getting over her initial confusion at the chicken-fight, she receives Lt. Adama's message and replies back, wondering what was going on (the Viper entanglement).
*Both Galactica and Pegasus pick up the Blackbird on DRADIS, but its lack of transponder codes leads Cain and Adama to assume that the new contact is a Raider. All Vipers break off their chicken-fight and move to engage the enemy, only standing down when Thrace broadcasts her ID over wireless.
*When Cain looks likely to resume the conflict with Adama, Thrace uploads her incredibly detailed pictures of the Unknown Cylon Ship to Pegasus CIC. A closeup shows Cylon bodies, including several inactive copies of the blonde Humanoid Cylon known to the Colonials as "Shelly Godfrey" and "Gina."
*Aboard Colonial One, after being grilled by President Laura Roslin for their near-disastrous actions, Adama and Cain agree to a truce while they prepare a joint attack on the Cylon fleet.
*Privately, Roslin warns Adama that Cain is a loose cannon, who must be killed in order to save the Fleet from annihilation. Adama is surprised at Roslin's candor, and is reluctant to consider the idea.
*Adama learns that Pegasus was also shepherding a civilian fleet, which it abandoned months ago, but not before stripping it of anything useful, including FTL drives, spare parts, and people. Cain ordered the execution of the families of individuals she selected who would not leave with Pegasus.
*Gaius Baltar speaks more with Gina, who wants Baltar to kill her so she can free herself from her torturous existence. He tells her that she cannot die as her consciousness would only download into another Cylon body. Seeing the copies of reconnaissance photos Baltar is carrying, Gina says she would die if his Fleet destroys the Unknown ship, which she names.
*Baltar briefs Adama and Cain: The function of the Resurrection Ship, as Gina called it, is to allow Humanoid Cylons a place where their consciousness can download, as an agent in the Fleet would be too far from the Cylon homeworld for their consciousness to return. Cain quickly surmises that, without the Resurrection Ship, any Cylon agent killed thereafter would be permanently dead, perhaps making the Cylons more conservative in carrying out their respective missions.
*Laura Roslin's illness is now more visibly apparent. William Adama visits her, and the two have a most unusual, even sentimental talk, with humor about getting a fresh, young Cylon body replacement for Roslin. Adama smiles and says that he couldn't think of her as a blonde, but Roslin smiles and says he'd be surprised.
*Cain finds Thrace's initiative laudable, and promotes her to Captain and CAG Pegasus over Cole Taylor. She initially pulls Lee Adama's flight status, but restores it at Thrace's behest and assigns him to her team. Thrace begins plans on an attack on the Resurrection Ship.
*Helo and Galen Tyrol are pleasantly surprised not to be dead. Lee Adama visits the two and catches them up on events, noting that his father pulled out the stops to ensure Helo's and Tyrol's survival.
*Starbuck and Apollo brief the battlestar commanders and XO's regarding the plan to disable and destroy the Resurrection Ship. The plan will involve both battlestars and all available fighters. Both Admiral Cain and Commander Adama approve of the plan, Adama being the more hesitant of the two.
*Colonel Tigh asks if the Blackbird could be used to sneak up behind the Resurrection Ship with a nuclear missile to destroy the Resurrection Ship outright. Thrace indicates that computer simulations show that the Cylons would pick up the radiological signature of the bomb (which cannot be hidden by the Blackbird's stealth ability). Such detection would destroy their element of surprise and likely warn the Resurrection Ship to jump away.
*After the briefing, Adama consults with Thrace privately, asking her to shoot Cain in the head after the attack. Likewise, Cain transfers Jack Fisk and a squad of Marines loyal to her to Galactica and instructs Fisk to kill Adama and his command staff after the attack.

Notes
*Fleet population is down to 49,604 to account for the death of Alastair Thorne.
* Admiral Cain promotes Kara Thrace to the rank of captain. She replaces Stinger as Pegasus's CAG.
* The Cylon fleet containing the Resurrection Ship has been following The Fleet. It was speculated that the Resurrection Ship was a safety net for any Cylons who died in the Fleet.
*In case there was any doubt, by this point the Galactica crew definitely knows that the blonde woman they first met as "Shelley Godfrey" is a humanoid Cylon, to the point that Roslin cracks a joke that she wouldn't mind waking up inside a gorgeous blonde-haired body.
*Number Six likes pyramid. She went to live games often while she was on Caprica. She said it was because she loved the rush of raw emotions that would sweep over the crowd.
*Thrace still intends to recover Anders' Caprica Resistance fighters from Caprica. Timeline-wise, they have a little over a month of anti-radiation meds left (apparently, they are able to get more as time passes).
*Tigh and Fisk have continued their status as drinking buddies.
*Roslin has developed a bad cough, perhaps evidence that her cancer has spread to her lungs, or that she has begun to suffer from opportunistic infections.
*Although Commander Adama does a good job of trying to "hide" it, when Adama leaves the sick Roslin he quickly wipes away a tear.

Analysis
*Cain wonders if debating morality is what Roslin and Adama have been doing "for the past six months"; however, as explained in the article Timeline (RDM), this episode only takes place a little over three months after the Fall of the Twelve Colonies. This is actually the starting point of what BattlestarWiki refers to as the Season two timeline discontinuity: all episodes in Season 2.5 have jumped ahead three months in the timeline: while consistent with each other (i.e. "Downloaded" is supposed to be 9 months after the Cylon attack, and it does take place 3 months after the Cain Trilogy).
*Louanne Katraine has apparently recovered from her stims burnout in "Final Cut", and has become the lead pilot on Galactica following the transfer of Lee Adama and Kara Thrace to Pegasus. Given that the ungifted George Birch is apparently the best to be found within Galactica's regular chain of command (Home, Part I), it's unsurprising that a talented nugget has risen to the top.
**In hindsight, her abuse of stims is actually in line with the single-minded zeal she approaches her job with. She has apparently learned to channel her perfectionism into a more constructive outlet.
**In choosing Birch Commander Adama decides to value loyalty way above everything else, about which Tigh is quite surprised. With Adama rebalancing his requirements it is no surprise a better pilot gets the position.
*Both Adama and Cain's assassination plans (taking advantage of a victory celebration in CIC) are exactly the same as the one used by "Boomer" Valerii in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II".
* The Cylons are unable to detect the Blackbird, while both Colonial battlestars are able to pick it up relatively quickly. It should be noted that the Blackbird is only detected once it starts transmitting a message. This suggests that it isn't literally detected by its DRADIS signature, but by the wireless signals it gives off.
*Laura Roslin, as President of the Twelve Colonies, probably has the power to remove Cain from active duty status. However, Cain barely recognizes her authority. She does a double take when Roslin is introduced to her as president, and - similar to Adama's reaction in the Miniseries - still sees her as the Secretary of Education. It is doubtful that she would follow an order to stand down.

Questions
* Why don't Cain and her crew grasp the concept that survival of the human race supersedes the military way of life?
*What was the fate of the other civilians in Pegasuss civilian fleet, the ones who weren't brought to Pegasus as useful assets or executed after the civilian ships were stripped?
* If Dr. Cottle were to perform a psychological examination on Cain, could Adama strip her of command for medical reasons? Would Cain or her crew even accept such a move?
*Why does Commander Adama rely on gossip from Cally and Tigh, rather than debriefing Laird personally?
*When did the Resurrection Ship begin following the Fleet? Was it able to rescue Aaron Doral (Suicide Bomber Copy) (killed day 17), Shelly Godfrey (disappeared day 24), Leoben Conoy (Gemenon Traveler Copy) (killed day 25), or Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy) (killed c. day 54)? (Answer regarding Boomer)
* Starbuck gets some close shots of the Resurrection Ship, so much so that Admiral Cain is able to identify the Cylon agent she knew as Gina. Could any of the other humanoid Cylon models be identified, including the ones that the Fleet aren't aware of yet?
*Since Lee Adama is ultimately included in the mission to assassinate Cain anyway, why didn't his father deign to brief him at the same time as Kara Thrace? Having Thrace fill him in later doubles the chance of their plans being overheard.
*Baltar says that he is tired of the fantasy-world in his head that he retreats into; not of Number Six herself, but of his bachelor pad on Caprica. Is this a further sign that Baltar is shifting closer into the Cylon camp? It could mean that he no longer misses his old life on Caprica and has stopped clinging to it.
*To what extent is the chain of command still in effect? Adama fully intends to have Cain killed, but still stops short of demanding Agathon and Tyrol's return, and Cain believes he will still accept Fisk's transfer to Galactica as a spy.
*Is Admiral Cain telling the truth when she says to Starbuck that their "ultimate goal" is to return to the Twelve Colonies and liberate them from the Cylons? While the idea fits to her previous actions against the Cylons, could it just be a way to gain Thrace's trust?

:President Roslin: Admiral, surely... The spirit of the law requires something more here than summary executions.
:Admiral Cain: Is this what the two of you have been doing for the past six months? Debating the finer points of Colonial law? Well, guess what, we're at war! And we don't have the luxury of academic debate over these issues.
:President Roslin: You want to cut through it, fine. You have Pegasus, he has Galactica. Two heavily armed, very powerful warships. Now, I am sure that Pegasus would prevail in any fight--
:Commander Adama: --I wouldn't count on that--
:President Roslin: --But certainly, there'd be heavy damage and you'd take significant casualties. So you can go out there and fight it out with Galactica or you can compromise. And those are the only two options on the table, period.
:Admiral Cain: ...How the two of you have survived this long, I will never know.....
:Commander Adama: What the hell are you talking about?
:President Roslin: Like she said, let's cut through it. The two of you were willing to go to war today. Do you think she's going to step down from that? She's going to bide her time and hit you the first chance she gets. That's a given. I hate to lay this on you Bill, but she is dangerous and the only thing that you can do is to hit her before she hits you.
:Commander Adama: I'm not an assassin.
:Gina: I knew what I was. I was a soldier. I-I had a mission, I carried it out. I thought that when it was done I was going to die. That you would kill me. Then I-- then I would download into a new body...be reborn. But you didn't kill me. The things you did to me.
:Baltar: What they did to you was wrong... Evil. But I'm not one of them. You have to believe me. Things are going to get better for you. From this moment on. I promise.
:Admiral Cain: Jack, I want to transfer a detachment of Marines to Galactica. And I want you to handpick them. Completely reliable. Completely loyal. Razors.
:Commander Adama: I have a mission for you, Kara.
:Starbuck: Anything for you, you know that.
:Commander Adama: Don't accept too quickly. You won't like this one. I don't like it. But I've decided that it has to be done.
:Admiral Cain: I'm transferring you to Galactica, as well. I'll tell Adama that you're there to be my eyes and ears. He'll hate it. He'll think you're my spy and try to freeze you out of decision-making. But he'll accept it. Now I want you to stay in CIC throughout the attack. Stay with Adama.
:Commander Adama: After the attack is completed and you've accounted for your pilots, I want you to land your bird on the Pegasus to report directly to CIC. You'll take Lee with you. He'll watch your back.
:Admiral Cain: Position Marines in key areas throughout the ship and keep a squad posted just outside CIC--
:Commander Adama: --There'll the normal chaos and emotional high after the attack--
:Admiral Cain: --They'll be slapping each other on the back, celebrating the victory--
:Commander Adama: --That'll keep their guard down--
:Admiral Cain: --Security will be lax--
:Commander Adama: --I will ask for you over the wireless--
:Admiral Cain: --I will call you directly, and when I have you on the line and you hear me give the command, "Execute case orange"--
:Commander Adama: --When you hear me say "Downfall"--
:Admiral Cain: --You are to signal the Marines to terminate Adama's command...starting with Adama--
:Commander Adama: --I want you to pull out your weapon...and shoot Admiral Cain in the head. (Starbuck is shocked)
Overview
The Season 2.5 DVD set, as well as the region 2 and 4 Season 2 DVD set, contains the original 5-act version of the mid-season 2 cliffhanger episode, "Pegasus". Standard episodes contain 4 acts, separated by commercial breaks, for a total 40-45 minute run time. Occasionally, the Sci Fi Channel has allowed series it produces to create 90-minute-long (with commercials) episode specials, containing 6 acts (an example being "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II"). "Pegasus" ran long, and after editing consisted of 5 acts of material. The production team felt that there was no way they could reach a length of 6 Acts, thus justifying a 90-minute special, without resorting to just adding filler material not really relevant to the main plot. As a result, the original 5-act cut of Pegasus was edited down to a standard 4-act running time. As a result, an entire act worth of scenes was deleted from the aired version of the episode, purely for time reasons and not due to any issues with their internal content. However, the extended version of "Pegasus" is included in the Season 2.5 DVD release, and includes all deleted scenes edited back in, to create an alternate version of the episode.

Executive producers Ron Moore and David Eick recorded a new, separate DVD commentary track for the Extended Version of "Pegasus" (the podcast for the televised version featured only Moore).

Chronological list of new scenes
* The episode now opens with Starbuck briefing Commander Adama and President Roslin about her planned rescue mission for the Resistance on Caprica. Part of this scene was included in the recap section of the opening credits in "Scar".
* On the way to the hangar deck Adama gives Roslin some details on Admiral Helena Cain, stating that "She's a very young officer on a very fast track. Very smart. Very tough. Very well connected." He also indicates her rank as Rear Admiral: "Fleet promoted her to Rear Admiral over half the Commanders on the list."
* In the same scene crewmembers can be seen rushing to the hangar deck, wanting to see Cain's arrival. Colonel Tigh chastises them, but Roslin recognizes the importance of the event for the crew's morale.
* Admiral Cain orders Colonel Tigh to put his men at ease.
* Admiral Cain recognizes Dr. Baltar when she arrives on Galactica, thus acknowledging his status as a celebrity before the Cylon attack.
* Adama apologizes to Admiral Cain for the celebration, but she declines and says "It's so good to see you."
* The conversation between Adama, Roslin, and Cain in Adama's quarters starts more friendly and only turns sour after the topic turns to the Fall of the Scorpian Fleet Shipyards. Some new facts are revealed:
** The electro-magnetic pulse created by the nuclear detonations shielded Pegasus survival from the Cylon DRADIS.
** Pegasus sustained heavy damage from the ignition of some of its fuel and ammunition.
** Pegasus computer network was offline in preparation for the overhaul, thus avoiding Cylon infiltration of the Command Navigation Program.
*Fisk apologized for insulting Galactica, stating that only Tigh has the right to insult her. After Fisk tells him that Pegasus's previous XO refused to carry out an order, Tigh says "No frakking way!". The scene also contains several additional shots of the two drinking and laughing.
* After Adama reports of Dr. Baltar's success in interrogating Sharon, Cain says that they are lucky to have Dr. Baltar aboard, and that she wants to make an appointment with him as soon as possible to work with their Cylon prisoner (called "Gina" by the writers and fans).
* An entirely new scene where Cain and Dr. Baltar visit Sharon in her cell. Baltar reports that they got Sharon to cooperate without torture by treating her like a human being. Cain is visibly appalled by how well Sharon has been treated and makes a point out of ignoring her, despite Sharon trying to talk to her.
* When Admiral Cain is leaving, Six teases Baltar about her. "She's a hard case isn't she? Just your type Gaius. You have a thing for strong, powerful women." Baltar salutes Cain as she leaves.
* The deck gang around Chief Galen Tyrol and Cally receive spare parts from Pegasus.
* Likewise Lieutenant Gaeta receives star charts, computer updates, and a copy of the Pegasus digital library (all on data discs) from Lt. Firelli to compensate for the data lost in the hard drive wipe during "Flight of the Phoenix". He quips, amusingly, "Got any porn in there?"
* A small extension to the conversation in which President Roslin complains that only Galactica received supplies, despite the dire needs of the civilian Fleet.
* A few added sentences when Peter Laird visits Galactica for the first time.
* After visiting Gina for the first time, Baltar explains to Cain and Fisk that, in order to make progress with her, he wants their prisoner to be able to bathe and eat adequately, as well as get clothes.
* Cain replies that Gina's comfort is of no interest to her and reveals that she killed "over 800" of her crew by helping a Cylon boarding party gain access to Pegasus. While not specified, that probably led to her being uncovered as a Cylon agent. Cain also wonders if Baltar has become too close to his prisoners and lost perspective.
* The scene continues with the known part about Baltar's findings and concludes with Fisk respectfully adressing Baltar as "Mr. Vice President" and Baltar commenting on Pegasus with "It's a lovely ship...Looks very new."
* As Cain arrives in her office, Adama is studying her weapons collection. She explains that she doesn't have chairs because standing is better for her back and that, as a side effect, meetings are conducted faster when her officers have to stand as well (Her back problems can be seen in "Resurrection Ship, Part II").
* They go a bit into the difference between Galactica and a Mercury class battlestar. Cain says "The ship's nearly twice the size, needs half the crew". This either refers to the double launch bays or the volume, but not the length.
* When Adama relays Cain's orders to transfer Apollo and Starbuck to Pegasus, he stops Starbuck as she is leaving and warns them "Watch out for yourselves. I think they're gunning for you both." to which Apollo replies "I think they're gunning for all of us."
* Tyrol has learned that he is supposed to be replaced as deck chief, prompting Cally's comment "This is bullshit, Chief!" Laird outs himself as the person who will replace him and Tyrol grudgingly shows him the way to his office. We also learn a new use of "frak": "frakwit"
* The briefing for the recon mission on Pegasus opens with a far longer fly-by establishing shot along the entire length of the ship. Stinger now threatens to throw Starbuck in the brig for her insubordination, but she just replies "I like hack." At the end she demonstratively remains sitting when Stinger orders everyone to stand up before dismissing them.
*The two crews have their celebration which escalates when the Pegasus crewman brag about their gangrape of Gina. In a new scene, Helo - as officer - intercedes at the end and the crewmen apologize.
* The controversial and much discussed rape scene has been restored, so that Sharon is really raped instead of Lt. Thorne being stopped before he can carry out his attempt. The edits however are subtle. First, Thorne quickly pulls down Sharon's pants (this is still heavily implied in the original). Secondly, when Helo and Tyrol arrive in the previously aired version, they look into the cell and it cuts to Thorne letting down his own pants. Now the camera stays outside and Thorne can be seen penetrating Sharon from behind. This lasts only for a few seconds while Helo and Tyrol rush in and attack Thorne. Additionally there are a few more protests by Sharon, her screaming "I'll kill you!" and one shot of Tyrol moving his hands between his head and lap.
* Baltar's last visit to Gina in the episode has a longer opening. Baltar carries in the food and orders the Pegasus officer to unshackle her.
*When Stinger asks Lee Adama to verify their jump coordinates in the Raptor, Adama ignores or overhears the order at the first.
*The scene with Cally stopping Adama to ask him about Tyrol's status is a few seconds longer at the beginning.
* Before Pegasus is shown to launch her Vipers, Cain orders the main batteries to be targeted on Galactica and says "May the Gods have mercy on their souls."

Questions
* Why is Peter Laird assigned as Galacticas deck chief?
* What was Gina's position on Pegasus? How exactly did she help Centurions to board the ship?
* Due to the massive damage caused by exploding munitions, where did Pegasus manage to get replenished?
* In light of Gaeta's question, was there pornography in Pegasuss digital library? <!-- I'm being serious with this. -->

Analysis
* The reason for Roslin's visit to Galactica is now revealed in the first scene.
* Starbuck's initial rescue plan consist of leaving the civilian Fleet and a small escort in a safe location and jumping back to Caprica with Galactica herself. Because of the risk to the Fleet and the navigational problems it is rejected as too risky.
* With Galactica receiving spare parts and computer updates from Pegasus there is a bit more cooperation between the crews before the small conflicts erupt into a big one.
* It is unknown why Laird is replacing Tyrol as Galactica's deck chief. Possibly because Cain learned of his affair with Sharon and the suspicion that he might be a Cylon collaborator (Litmus) from Galactica's logs. However it explains what Laird is doing on Galactica later during the small party on the hangar deck and why he seems to be in charge of operations when Tyrol asks about the Blackbird. In "Resurrection Ship, Part I" he is definitely in charge of the whole hangar deck, but in that episode he is never formally established in the position. One would assume that he replaces Tyrol after his arrest, but according to the Extended Version it happens before.
* Starbuck's insubordinate behavior towards Stinger doesn't go uncommented now.
*Roslin's line to Baltar in "Epiphanies" about getting too close to his Cylon subjects echoes Admiral Cain's complaints in the added scenes.
*The reintroduction of the full rape sequence creates a possible continuity error with Helo's line, "He was trying to rape a prisoner" in "Resurrection Ship, Part II".

Official Statements
*Ron D. Moore stated in his podcast that there were a number of scenes filmed for the televised episode that had to be deleted for time, but that he expects to be edited back into the episode for the DVD release. According to Moore, although most episode rough cuts run a little overtime and one or two scenes have to be edited out, "Pegasus" had more than a full extra Act worth of material left over. The full episode would have been an hour and 15 minutes long. Moore tried to put in more scenes to push it to 90 minutes, in which case Scifi Channel would air it as a 90 minute special (as they had done in the past for "Stargate SG-1" on occasion), but ultimately not enough material could be included in "Pegasus" to make it 90 minutes long without detracting from story quality; they were left with an episode that was too short to be a 90 minute special, but also too long to include all filmed scenes in a one hour episode.
*According to RDM's podcast, there was entire subplot alluded to in the episode which was in the original script, but which was excised before it was ever filmed due to time constraints. The fragment that remains is when Roslin complains to Adama that Pegasus is focusing on re-supplying the Fleet's military assets (re-arming Galactica and re-supplying Pegasus from stores in the civililan fleet) while ignoring the needs of the civilian fleet. The subplot would show how Roslin wanted Pegasus to provide machine parts for repairs to the civilian Fleet, and that after these are repeatedly ignored the civilian fleet ultimately goes "on strike" by refusing to give Pegasus more tylium fuel. It would also expand on Cain's refusal to acknowledge Roslin as the President (and therefore her superior as Commander-in-Chief).
*Moore also stated in the podcast that an alternate version of the attempted rape scene with Boomer was also filmed in which the rape was actually underway when Tyrol and Helo intervened. Ultimately, the decision was made to use the version seen where Thorne is stopped just in time, before he is able to rape Boomer. This is an alternate scene and wasn't just deleted for time: it wasn't in the script, but after discussing it director Michael Rymer, Grace Park and the rest of the cast decided to create it. The production team and writers liked the originally scripted, averted-at-the-last-minute-rape scene better anyway, so the alternate version was not used in the aired episode.
*Prior to the release of Season 2.0 on DVD, it was confirmed that the "Season 2.0" DVD box set of Battlestar Galactica (which contains the first ten episodes of Season 2) does not contain the Director's Cut of "Pegasus". Universal Home Video stated that they were unable to complete the extended version of the episode in time for the Season 2.0 DVD release. Due to this, fans have the opportunity to buy both versions. In his podcast, Moore stated his preference for the extended cut over the broadcast version, due to the great character moments and drama, but that some might feel that the tight, rapid pace of the cut-down episode kept it more thrilling.
In terms of formalized help files regarding templates, you might start here:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Templates

It's pretty dry stuff, but that's documentation for you. Basically, in order to add school to your user data, you'd have a few options. One is adding it to the user data template (Template:User Data). That'd mean that it'd be a field for EVERYONE using the User Data template. Now, we do have the capability to make fields optional. Back in the day we didn't know how to do that, so we had to be even more careful about which fields were added, since adding it to the template meant going to each and every article using that template and adding that field (even if it was blank), or there would be an ugly "error" that appeared near the template. Those days are gone, but you still want to avoid bogging down a template with fields that don't get used too often.

Option two is copy and pasting the code from Template:User Data to your user page, and then customizing to your delight. This has the benefit of allowing you to add ANY fields or customizations you want, without impacting everyone else. The downside is that any updates to the User Data template wouldn't affect your page and you'd have to manually catch up any time changes were made.

Option three is "subclassing" (sorry, using a computer science concept). That is, create a new template (say, Student User Data) which has as its base the user data, but also added fields specific to that particular thing. If the implementation of that "transcludes" template user data then you'd have the best of both worlds (specialized data, and it'd get updated when user data was updated). If not, you'd be stuck in the same boat as "option two".

If I only contributed to the confusion, or if you have any questions, let me know. I'm by no means an expert, mostly learning what I know about templates from the "school of hard knocks" around here, but I'll be glad to help if I can. --Steelviper 17:37, 15 September 2007 (CDT)
When I'm done writing my part of the state-changing stuff (everything except edit, upload and register, which is done by 5 Vodafone employees), I'll start writing a graphical interface for the API, which can also be run as a bot. == Bots and MediaWiki API ==
I saw your comments regarding edit tokens at MW:API and thought you may be interested in the SimpleForms extension which already has the ability to update and create articles from the HTTP request parameters. It doesn't implement edit tokens yet, but does allow you to lock it down so that requests are only allowed from the localhost which means your server-side scripts can update articles and is much easier to implement than a bot. If you prefer bots we have some Perl code for accessing wikis at http://www.organicdesign.co.nz/wiki.pl and there are libs like PyWikiBot. :To verify, I checked your avg. speed, which is 4.8 m/s, which is 17.3 km/h, which is 10.8 mph, which looks like running speed (I had about the same avg. speed when running a quarter mile, so you're obviously the better runner ;)). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 14:53, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
::The first 800 was faster than the second, I'm pretty sure. I'd probably get a better time with more even splits. I wasn't really training for the mile, though. I had been doing ~20 miles per week at around 9 minutes per mile for endurance/fitness. I guess the mile just seemed like a sprint by comparison. My miles per week has dropped off considerably since the baby, though, so that PR may stand for a while.
::I ran 1/4 mile in high school, usually hovering around 60+ seconds (which is to say, I almost never placed high enough for points). I guess in hindsight I should have been doing 800/mile, but the 1/4 miles definitely "build character". Especially those last 100 yards. Ugh. --Steelviper 15:23, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
:::1/4 mile in 60-odd seconds? I envy you :P I did it three times and ran 80-odd every time, with pretty good splits each time (and one inverse split :O). But then I'm not much of a sprinter or a runner, I much prefer biking (never biked more than 21 miles in one go though, but I intend to change that). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:52, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
::::Cycling is cool. I'm definitely a runner with a bike, though, and not a cyclist. When I see a hill on foot, I grin and drive harder into it. When I see a hill on bike, I despair (and change gears). I know it's mental, but I'm not sure whether I'll put in enough bike time to overcome that.
::::I was doing a duathlon last summer and smoked a guy in a cycling team kit in the opening run... only to watch him lap me a couple of times before the bike course was complete. But that's... ok. --Steelviper 17:31, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
:::::I'm not really much of a hill biker (there are hardly any hills where I live), but more the type that drives 13 or 14 (depending on wind conditions) mph for an hour and a half straight (never tried longer, also got school to think about :P). I think hills would kill me, though, as they force you to change your speed every 10 minutes, which I probably wouldn't handle very well. The one hill that I do find on my way (a viaduct crossing the highway) I bite through in the same gear as much as possible, but I doubt I could do that with multiple, real, hills. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 05:52, 17 August 2007 (CDT)
--Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 17:24, 25 August 2007 (CDT)
New Idea for Mediawiki Extension
I'll install the new ext. later today, but I was wondering if you could create an extension where I would be able to send commands to the "server" to run Python code as a background process. I would like it to be a new flag "Bot Control". There would be an optionial "text" line for custom code and thent he default code would be formated to do all pywikipediabot functions and then being able to disable the ones you don't run on certain wikis by setting.. $wgPywikipediaDisable as an array. Think you are up for it? Shane (T - C - E) 08:32, 1 September 2007 (CDT)
:Sounds doable, but we are talking shell access here. An extension like that has the potential to do a lot of damage if proper security isn't observed. It would be easier to just log in through SSH and run the bot from there. On a side note, the pywikipediabot framework is gonna be outdated when the MediaWiki API is finished, which aims to be a far more efficient bot framework. Hopefully, the API will be fully functional when 1.11 is released, and I'll be able to write a web interface for it that doesn't need shell access. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 05:58, 2 September 2007 (CDT)
