Born in London, England, Callis studied English and Related Literature at the University of York (Derwent College), graduating with honours. After graduating in 1993, he gained a place at the renowned London Academy of Music & Dramatic Arts. He graduated from LAMDA in 1996 and has since appeared in various West End stage productions, as well as in film and on TV and radio.

Callis made his West End debut in Old Wicked Songs alongside Bob Hoskins in 1996, earning the London Critics' Circle's Jack Tinker Award for Most Promising Newcomer. He appeared at the Almeida Theatre in George Bernard Shaw's The Doctor's Dilemma in 1998, and at the Soho Theatre in London last year in Peter Ackerman's Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight.

I concised this article to remove the self-argumentative counterpoints and to focus on the most probable use of the name. The article is shortened, but is now more relevant. There is really no further data that can be used, I feel, and other speculation does not fit to the few facts that can be derived from the single season of the series. If ''[[Galactica 1980]]'' information is added, it strongly supports the single-galaxy-but-differing-name probability since the Exodus to Earth took 30 years as noted there. Given that the speeds and method of [[Propulsion (TOS)|propulsion]] in either series was never defined, it's more likely (despite the still-fantastic nature of it) to conclude that travel across a portion of a large galaxy of over 100,000 light-years in size is more probable in 30 years than intra-galactic travel over several million (or more) light-years. --[[User:Spencerian|Spencerian]] 09:17, 10 April 2007 (CDT)

This project deals with converting articles from the ''Battlestar Wiki'' into other languages and how to accomplish that task.

== Overview ==
Presently, all of the content on this wiki is in [[Wikipedia:English language|english]] — American english, to be specific. We have people who view this Wiki from other countries, as far away as Europe and Asia. And likely further.

Therefore, this is a formal effort to recruit mutlilingual contributors and organize these contributors to translate our documents in other languages. Once there is enough translations of a particular translation, the Battlestar Wiki, as a group, will sit down and see if there is cause enough for a full language site with the "battlestarwiki.org" domain name.

Currently we have these sub-language projects with there status.

Specialist '''Socinus''' is a deckhand on ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' assigned to Chief [[Galen Tyrol]]. Near the time of the [[Cylon Attack]] on the [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)|Twelve Colonies]], he is attached to [[Deck Crew 5]], and is responsible for [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] and [[Raptor]] maintenance.

Socinus, [[Prosna]], and [[Cally]] are late in wrapping one the flight deck crew’s two surprise gifts for the retiring Commander [[William Adama]] – a photo of young Adama and his two sons, [[Lee Adama|Lee]] and [[Zak Adama|Zak]] found by Prosna in the [[Colonial Fleet]] archives. When Adama runs into them as he worked on the decommissioning ceremony speech, Socinus covers up their nervousness in hastily hiding the gift photo by complaining about the leaks they had to patch on the windows that cover the now-pressurized starboard [[flight pod]], which houses a museum of relics from the [[Cylon War]] ([[Miniseries]]).

In the aftermath of [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet’s]] escape from [[Ragnar Anchorage]], Socinus appears to be located in a records room on ''Galactica'', tasked with gathering contact information from other crewmembers on the battlestar who hope of gaining any information on loved ones missing in the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|nuclear destruction of the Twelve Colonies]]. When [[Anastasia Dualla]], a citizen from Sagittaron, asks how many others from her colony are identified in the Fleet, Socinus, his voice filled with fatigue, tells the petty officer that there are 5,251 Sagittarons alive, but photos can’t be transmitted around the Fleet to aid in locating them yet. He directs her place her photo of her family with his group or in an adjoining hallway-turned-memorial, filled with shrines and pictures of missing or lost friends and family ([[33]]).

Aware that Tyrol and Valerii were having intimate relations at the time, Socinus covers for Tyrol and falsely claims that he left open a hatch combing to causeway C and to the arms locker by accident.

It was likely Valerii’s sleeper [[Humanoid Cylon|Cylon personality]] that entered through that hatch combing, leaving it open so a copy of [[Aaron Doral]] could gain access to the explosives.

[[William Adama|Commander Adama]] doubts Socinus' actions (being aware of Tyrol and Valerii’s relationship). Tyrol confesses to Adama that he was with Valerii at the time of the bombing, with the deck gang covering for him. This did not result in Socinus' release, as he did lie before the tribunal.

Socinus is released on parole for the scout mission to [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]] ([[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Pt. I]]) by request of Tyrol due to the extreme short-handedness of experienced crew. He becomes stranded on Kobol with the rest of the survivors of [[Raptor 1]].

Socinus sustains critical injuries including severe smoke inhalation during the crash. He is treated with [[serisone]] to prevent fluid from building up in his lungs. Despite the efforts of [[Tarn]], [[Cally Henderson]] and [[Galen Tyrol]] to acquire another medkit from the crash site to help keep him alive, Socinus' injuries are too severe ([[Scattered]]). In the end, Tyrol euthanizes Socinus by [[morpha]] overdose to save him from a slow and agonizing death ([[Valley of Darkness]]).

I agree, Spencerian, Catrope ... definite misperceptions, and something is wrong, but I'm not sure how to fix it. I was posting the below at the same time you both were posting and got an edit conflict, the following are my thoughts on reading the article:

From reading the article linked in the blog entry, I think the author doesn't really understand the goal of BSG Wiki: to be an encyclopedia. We aren't really about the speculation (much) or reinterpretation, but rather the documentation of that which is presented on-screen. Take this quote:

We're a community, but we have different goals than other BSG communities. Those goals may not appeal as much to many potential female (and male, for that matter) contributors as, say, the ability to write fan-fiction, discuss potential relationships, or the ability to write whatever they like under their own name with a guarantee that it won't be altered/improved/deleted. I am all for bringing in new contributors, male or female, but I'm against compromising our stated goals to do so (not that anyone is saying that's the plan). I've been reading the responses on the blog. (I didn't realize that a vanity search would turn into a full fledged discussion on improving gender diversity of our contributors. Not that this is a bad thing, but life leads you to the most interesting places.) Basically, I haven't gotten the feedback that I've hoped yet from the female sector of the fandom, but I did like some of the ideas I saw, notably:

# Delving more into character's motivations. We cover the history of the characters, which help us to ''understand'' the source of their motivations, including what drives them, but we can do better. As Serenity pointed out on the blog, our analysis on [[Romo Lampkin]]'s motivations from "[[The Son also Rises]]" on forward is a good template to work from.
# Having read Sarah Toton's paper, my initial impression is that the technology barrier isn't the major hurdle. I'll quote the paper here, because it's something that struck me upon first reading it:

Lawless was the fifth child (four older brothers and one younger sister) who found her niche as an actor and a singer whilst at secondary school. A little known fact about Lucy is that she was studying to be an opera singer but lack of interest in the life of an opera singer saw her onto other endeavours.

Lawless enrolled at Auckland University where she studied languages. Whilst she was studying she got her first acting break in a New Zealand commercial for Getaway Tours. With the money from that break, she dropped out of University and headed to Europe.

Lawless ended her overseas experience with her last stop in Australia splitting rocks for a gold-mining company in Kalgoorlie. She married her boyfriend Garth Lawless in 1988 and they went back to New Zealand where Lucy gave birth to her daughter, Daisy.

Studied acting at the William Davis Center for Actors in Vancouver in 1991. When she returned to New Zealand, she had minor roles on New Zealand TV for ''The Love of Mike'' (1991) and ''Shark In the Park III'' (1991). That same year also saw her in two movies ''The Bitter Song'' and ''The End of the Golden Weather''.

In 1992, Lawless starred with Jon Voight and Sam Neill in the movie ''The Sinking of the Rainbow Warrior''. Various roles followed and the actress was in steady employment.

In 1995, after doing several appearances in ''Hercules: The Legendary Journeys'', the producers were looking to cast for a role that would change the actress's life forever. Due to several actresses being unavailable to travel to New Zealand where Hercules was being shot, Lawless was approached and offered the role which was initially going to be for three episodes.

Universal Studios saw the dailies for the ''Xena'' episodes and realised they had found another hit. The spin off series proved to be a giant killer, toppling ''Baywatch'' and ''Star Trek: The Next Generation'' from the number 1 position in the Nielsen ratings, becoming one of the most watched syndicated shows in the US and in 115 other countries.

The year of 1996 was momentous for Lawless. In August, Lawless appeared on the hit talk show ''The Rosie O'Donnell Show'' where she performed "I'm an old Cowhand". One of the producers from the musical ''Grease!'' on Broadway was watching the show and was so impressed when Lucy started singing that he called her and Lucy was on the road to Broadway to star as Rizzo in ''Grease!'' for the following year.

Later that year (1996), Lucy fractured her pelvis when she was thrown from a horse while preparing for a skit for ''The Tonight Show with Jay Leno''.

In addition to her acting, Lawless is a tireless worker for charities such as the Starship Foundation in New Zealand, Breast Cancer Research, AIDS charities and World Vision. In June 2004, Lawless was awarded Order of Merit in the Queen's Birthday Honour List for 2004. Lawless has been given this honor for services to entertainment and the community.

Lawless married Xena producer Robert Gerard Tapert in 1998. They have two children, Julius and Judah and daughter, Daisy, from her first marriage to Garth Lawless.

Was born, grew up, went to school (all of that in Germany) and since the first airing of BSG in free-TV I'm addicted to the re-imagined Battlestar. With Boxey and Muffit II, a robotic daggit, she accompanied Captain Apollo and [[Jolly (TOS)|Flight Sergeant Jolly]] to the planet [[Carillon]] where eventually they were found and sent to the front of the Ovion's operation. Once the operation was found to be a Cylon snare, Serina and her other fellow members of the Fleet made it back to their respective ships. ([[Saga of a Star World]])

Leaving behind the debris of Carillon and the old [[Imperious Leader]] behind, Serina began training as a [[Shuttle]] pilot after Apollo announced his engagement. Although he wasn't too pleased initially, he understood and was pleased at the idea after a heated "discussion".

Circumstances lead way to her eventual departure from the realm of the living as the [[Viper (TOS)|Viper]] corps was all incapacitated and near death due to an unidentifiable sickness that was spread by [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]] and Jolly. She and all the shuttle pilots were suddenly being trained to fly Vipers, against the objections of [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] and Apollo (the two remaining active pilots). After their training, Serina and the other shuttle-turned-Viper pilots flew a novice escort of [[Salik]]'s medical shuttle, and managed to ward of a [[Cylon Raider (TOS)|Cylon fighter squadron]].

After the mission and upon entering the magnetic void previously detected by Apollo and Starbuck, [[Adama (TOS)|Commander Adama]] [[Sealed]] Serina and Apollo. Unfortunately, the pilots were absent from the ceremony due to their sickness, and the Cylons had captured Starbuck. (Although Apollo was initially hesitant about going through with it because he felt so deeply for his friend Starbuck, but his mind had been changed when Serina consoled him.)

During this ceremony, another special event occurred -- the detection of a lone star that would guide them forth from the magnetic sea phenomenon. They had come across the planet known as [[Kobol]], the original place where Humanity once sprung from. Adama immediately set out to find any trace of the [[Earth|thirteenth colony]], with Apollo and Serina at his side. Serina, along with Apollo, would have preferred to be alone on the planet, however destiny guided them toward the temple of the [[Ninth Lord of Kobol|last leader of Kobol]].

Serina bore witness to the discovery, eventually stumbling upon the tomb of the Ninth Lord, as well as the treacherous [[Baltar (TOS)|Lord Baltar]]. As Adama worked on deciphering the language in the hidden second chamber, the Cylons attacked and the trio fled, leaving Baltar to the falling temple. As Serina rejoined Starbuck and [[Deitra]] on the surface, two recluse [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|Centurions]] mortally wounded her. While these Cylons were dealt with, it had not helped Serina as she slowly died.

The bar includes a pool-like table and a Pyramid arcade game for entertainment. A distiller is present to produce fresh alcohol.

A [[Viper Mk II]] is suspended from the ceiling above the bar. It is likely just an airframe that was stripped off all useful parts, like the scrapped [[Viper 289]].

Just to let you know, the Cylons used [[backdoor]] programming to essentially command the [[CNP]] to turn off or seriously disable itself, leading to their victory. Viruses are an old tactic of theirs from the Cylon War, and are used if they can hack into a Colonial ship's computer network (as done in [[Scattered]] and [[Flight of the Phoenix]]). Anne Kathleen Maloney was born September 6, 1953, in New York, to parents June Lockhart and Dr. John Maloney. She was raised in Brentwood, California. Anne is a fourth generation performer. Her great grandfather, John Coates Lockhart, was a professional concert singer, and was once in the 48th Highlanders' regimental band as well as the Kilties Band in Canada. Her grandfather, Gene Lockhart and grandmother, Kathleen Lockhart both acted as well. They appeared together along with her mother June Lockhart in the original 1938 MGM classic, ''A Christmas Carol''. Her mother is most well known from the television series ''Lassie'' and ''Lost in Space''.

'''Anne Lockhart''''s career started at a very young age. Her first work was at age four, when she starred in ''T is for Tumbleweed''. This short subject film was nominated for an academy award. She spent time with her mother around the set, where she would learn about the workings of the business. She even appeared in several episodes of Lassie. Her first movie was "Dora" in ''Jory'' in 1972. At age 18, she played the daughter of Joan Crawford in 1972 television series ''The Sixth Sense''. It was Joan's last acting appearance. A popular rumor is that Anne turned down the role of "Laurie Strode" in John Carpenter's 1978 thriller ''Halloween'', which was later cast for Jamie Lee Curtis. Mr. Carpenter says that he wanted her for the role, but that she turned it down. Anne does not remember being being contacted by John Carpenter, nor being offered the role. It is possible that one of her agents turned it down on her behalf without telling her.

She was initially chosen by Glen Larson, who sent her a very preliminary script, for a role in the 1978 television series ''Battlestar Galactica''. She rejected the role initially, as the character wasn't that strong. Later, Glen wrote a new part just for her, with a much stronger character named "Sheba". After reading the first 25 pages of the script "The Living Legend", she accepted immediately. The show ran for one season.

She was a favourite of Glen Larson, and appeared in many of his other television series including ''The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, B.J. and the Bear, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century'' (where she played two characters, "Jennifer/Leila Markeson"), ''The Fall Guy, Knight Rider'' and ''Airwolf''. She did two episodes of ''Magnum P.I.'': in one episode she plays the younger version of her moms character, in the other she plays a younger version of herself.

She reunited with Noah Hathaway (who played "Boxey" in ''Battlestar Galactica'') in the movie ''Troll'' (1986), which also included her mother (June turns into Anne during the movie). She reunited with Donald Bellisario (''Battlestar Galactica'''s producer and writer) in episodes of ''Airwolf, Quantum Leap'' and ''JAG''. Anne worked again with Dirk Benedict (who played "Starbuck" in ''Battlestar Galactica'') as "Sylvie" in his movie ''Cahoots'' (2001) which she also co-produced. They also worked together on ''War of the Worlds'', which Anne produced and won a REP Award for "Best Production of a Drama" (1998). She appeared as the sister of another ''Battlestar Galactica'' alumni, Jane Seymour (who played "Serina") in ''Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman''.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Carter was the only child of William and Mercedes DeCoste. Terry's mother was a native of the Dominican Republic. His father was American born, of Argentine and African-American descent. Terry's parents taught him Spanish as well as English as a child. Growing up in a bilingual, bicultural household, in a predominantly Italian, Williamsburg neighborhood, next door to a Jewish synagogue, was an early influence in developing Terry's appreciation for cultural diversity. His father, William "Bill" DeCoste, was self-taught and independent, and operated his own radio repair business in the Thirties and, after World War II, ran a refrigeration service business from the Forties until his retirement in the early Seventies. Bill was active in community affairs. Terry's parents instilled in him a deep concern for others, and a respect for people of all colors, creeds and classes. Terry remembers walking his first picket line at age 8, at his father's side, in a demonstration to support demands for better conditions for recipients of "home relief", as the welfare program of the day was called. At the age of 9, Terry acted for the very first time: in the role of "Vasco da Gama" in a historical play about the discovery of America, in auditorium of his elementary school, P.S. 88 in Brooklyn.

When Terry graduated Stuyvesant High School in New York City in 1946, he enlisted in the merchant marine to see the world. As a crew member on the SS Marine Marlin, he sailed to war-torn Germany and walked among the utter devastation that was once the proud port of Bremerhaven. The merchant ship took on as passengers displaced persons, and former prisoners of war and concentration camp survivors and transported them from Germany and other European ports to Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil.

After six months as a seaman, Terry took a job as a mail clerk at New York's Museum of Modern Art. As part of the museum’s program, the museum film department exhibited a seemingly endless film festival of avant-garde independent and foreign films. Terry tried to see every one of them. The year that he spent at the museum altered his life course: he became an ardent devotee of the arts and an avid film buff. He made acquaintances with many young painters and writers, some of whom later became famous. After that year, Terry went off to Northeastern University in Boston to study pre-law. While there, he worked weekends as a "piano player" with a jazz combo, drawing on his experience of classical piano study from age 8 through 15. They played at night clubs, and for weddings and bar mitzvahs.

In the 1950s, while studying law at St. John's University Law School in New York, he met the well-known theatre actors Howard Da Silva and Morris Carnovsky. They convinced him to consider the pursuit of a career as an actor. Rationalizing that drama training would help him in the courtroom, he studied law by day and acting by night. His first drama teacher was Howard Da Silva, who offered him a scholarship at Actors Mobile Theatre, Da Silva's acting school. Terry took classes in Method Acting. It wasn't long before he lost interest in the prospects of a law career: After his second year at law school, he dropped out and began to study acting full-time.

As a young teenager, Terry had already taken on the nickname "Terry", after the adventurous young hero of the popular newspaper cartoon Terry & the Pirates by Milton Caniff. Terry kept on using the name through high school. When he got into show business, he got tired of the white people asking him how come he had a foreign-sounding last name, since most African Americans they knew had Anglo-Saxon surnames such as Wilson, Jones or Jackson. So, Terry switched from "DeCoste" to the more English-sounding "Carter" for his professional name, as did many actors of that era who had foreign-sounding names (e.g. Kirk Douglas, John Garfield and Jack Benny), and has used it ever since.

Terry's acting career started in 1952 with a leading role in Edward Chodorov's ''Decision'', at the Greenwich Mews Theatre in Greenwich Village. He became a member of the theatre group and the following year, in Les Pine's play, ''Monday's Heroes'', he played the part of a teenager in a Jewish family, with no special makeup. It was an early experiment in non-traditional casting. Terry studied with Herbert Berghof, Uta Hagen and Stella Adler in those years.

Terry landed his first Broadway role in 1954, as the male lead opposite Eartha Kitt, in the play ''Mrs. Patterson''. The company toured major cities before opening on Broadway at the National Theater, for a run of several months. Later, he played the part of "Howard" in the revival of E.Y. Harburg's ''Finian's Rainbow'' (1955) at the City Center Theater.

Later, in 1955, Terry joined the cast of ''The Story of Ruby Valentine'', radio's first all-black soap opera series, for the National Negro Network, in which he played the role of a doctor suffering from amnesia. During that time, he acted in several other off-Broadway plays including John Steinbeck's ''Of Mice and Men'', and a touring company of Edward Albee's ''The Zoo Story''.

In 1955, Terry produced an off-Broadway production of George Bernard Shaw's ''A Village Wooing'', at the Davenport Theatre in New York.

In 1956, Terry was one of the first black actors on equal-footing as a regular on a TV sitcom series, portraying "Private Sugarman" on ''Phil Silvers' Sgt. Bilko'' (aka ''You'll Never get Rich'' aka ''The Phil Silvers Show''). The series lasted four years, and was the model for subsequent comedy series about the military, such as ''Hogan's Heroes'' and ''McHale's Navy''.

In 1957, Terry played the title role in ''Bob Thomas of the Philadelphia Inquirer'', part of ''The Big Story'' series which focused on the outstanding achievements of journalists. A non-smoker, Terry had to learn to smoke in order to play key scenes in the teleplay. The series sponsor was Pall Mall cigarettes, and the show was broadcast live, so it was crucial that Terry smoke convincingly. He carried it off, but he has never smoked another cigarette since. Terry became friends with the real Bob Thomas, and they had a reunion in Hong Kong, 34 years later.

In 1959, Terry appeared in the Hollywood motion picture, ''Parrish''. Terry was featured as "Gabriel" in Marc Connelly's classic play, ''The Green Pastures'' on the NBC ''Hallmark Hall of Fame'' series also in 1959. The vivid dramatizations of biblical tales were presented in a wondrous Bayou-like land, with an all African-American cast that won wide acclaim for their outstanding performances. It was nominated for several Emmy Awards that year.

In 1960, Terry toured with the national company of Brendan Behan's ''The Hostage'', an avant-garde play in which he played the role of a prizefighter called "Princess Grace".

In 1961, Terry landed the title role in Richard Adler's ground-breaking Broadway musical ''Kwamina'', set in an African nation on the brink of achieving independence. The musical played to sell-out audiences in its pre-Broadway performances in Toronto and Boston. But the theme of an interracial love affair between "Kwamina", the African doctor educated at Oxford and a British white woman doctor, proved too controversial for those who controlled Broadway, and the production was withdrawn after a few weeks at the 54th Street Theater, despite mixed critical notices.

In 1962, Terry returned to Europe for an extended stay. He lived some months in Paris and then spent a year in Denmark before moving onto Rome. In Rome, he learned to speak fluent Italian. Terry fell in love with his language tutor, the Italo-Yugoslavian Anna Scratuglia. In the fall of 1963, Terry returned to the United States. In 1964, he asked Anna to join him in New York. They married and later had two children: a son, Miguel, and a daughter, Melinda, both of whom were raised speaking Italian as well as English. The family decided to live at least part time in Italy.

In 1964, Terry played a prizefighter with a problem as a guest star on two different TV series: ''Dr. Kildare'' ("The Middle of Ernie Mann") and ''Breaking Point'' ("Never Trouble Trouble, Till Trouble Troubles You").

In 1965, Terry was a guest star as a G.I. in the episode "The Long Wait" of ''Combat!'', the wartime series which starred Vic Morrow. Terry was the only Black actor ever to have appeared on that series in its entire run.

In 1965, walking up Broadway one day, Terry ran into a producer friend who suggested that he do a screen test for the position of TV newscaster. Although he had no journalistic background, he drew upon his 13 years of experience as an actor and landed the job: Terry Carter became world's first black TV anchor newscaster, for WBZ-TV Eyewitness News in Boston, the Westinghouse flagship station, for the next 3 years. In addition to covering crime stories and "hard" news, Terry became Boston TV's first opening night drama and movie critic.

Even though Terry was now a TV newscaster, he still maintained his relationship with the William Morris Agency. While summering in Rome in 1967, Terry was sent by the Morris Agency to meet Italian producer Dino deLaurentiis and avant-garde art film director Tinto Brass, who asked him to star in his movie, ''Nerosubianco'' (aka ''Black on White'' or ''Attraction''), set in London. Since he was still a TV newscaster, Terry had to request of Westinghouse a 13-week leave of absence from his news anchor job, in order to work in the film. Although it was an unprecedented request for Westinghouse, he got it. Before long, he realized that his first love was acting. Once his three-year newsroom contract was up, he packed his bags and he and his wife moved to Hollywood, in search of greener pastures.

His first important role on arriving in Hollywood in 1968 was as a detective named "Jaffie", in the made-for-TV movie ''Company of Killers'', in which he worked alongside Van Johnson and Ray Milland.

From 1968-71, singer Diahann Carroll became the first Black female to star in her own TV sitcom series, ''Julia''. Terry had a recurring role as Julia’s boyfriend "Bert".

In December 1969, only 5 months after Neil Armstrong takes his first step onto the Moon, Terry played the role of "Mike Carter", the first Black astronaut to the Moon, in ''The Bold Ones: The New Doctors''. Many of the scenes were filmed in the actual Apollo Spacecraft.

Though he had no special preference in story lines, he had heard that the series named ''McCloud'' would star the actor Dennis Weaver. Terry was a fan of Weaver's ever since he'd seen Orson Welles' ''Touch of Evil'' in 1958. The choice was a lucky one. The other two series floundered, but Terry went on to co-star as "Sgt. Joe Broadhurst", Weaver's sidekick on ''McCloud'' from 1970 until 1977 and even made a reprise as "Lieutenant Broadhurst" in 1989's CBS telefilm ''The Return of Sam McCloud''.

In 1975, Terry founded Meta-4 Productions, Inc., a small Los Angeles production company, through which he produced and directed more than one hundred industrial and educational films and videos for public broadcasting and for virtually every agency of the federal government. Terry also formed the Council for Positive Images, Inc., (CPI) a non-profit organization of which he is still president, in 1979, dedicated to enhancing intercultural and interethnic understanding through audiovisual communication. Under the Council's auspices, he has produced and directed award-winning dramatic and documentary programs for PBS, focusing on cultural and historical topics.

In 1978, McCloud's creator Glen Larson and producer Leslie Stevens were asked to make a major film for television in response to the success of the Star Wars trilogy of George Lucas. Star Wars special effects specialist John Dykstra and his team were brought in to start on the models for what would become the most expensive film ever made for television: ''Battlestar Galactica: Saga of a Star World''. The cast was a mix of young, still relatively unknown actors like Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict, combined with legends as ''Bonanza'''s Lorne Greene, Ray Milland, Lew Ayres and Alfred Hyde-White. Terry, who'd just worked with creator Glen Larson and producer Leslie Steven on ''McCloud'' for 7 years, was selected for the part of "Lt. Boomer". As chance would have it, Terry broke his ankle roller skating with his daughter a shortly before ''Galactica'' started filming. The part of "Lt. Boomer" was then re-cast and given to young actor Herb Jefferson, Jr. But the 7 years on ''McCloud'' must have made an impression on its producers, because Terry was later offered another part in the series: that of "Colonel Tigh", the right hand of "[[Adama (TOS)|Commander Adama]]". Still a warrior rather then a diplomat, "Tigh" was often at odds with "Adama" on his decisions. It was a part Terry found even more challenging and satisfying to play.

Since ''Battlestar Galactica: Saga of a Star World'' cost an enormous amount of money to make it was quickly decided to turn it into a TV series. A combination of multiple last-minute script revisions, the costs of $1 million per episode and a bad TV time slot made the network decide to cancel the show after just one season. Terry made a reprise in 1999 and played the part of now "President Tigh" in Richard Hatch' trailer ''Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming'', an attempt to revive the original series.

In 1980, Terry was elected to the Board of Governors of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, where he served two terms.

In 1983, Terry was inducted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He served on the Documentary Committee and the Foreign Films Committee for the Oscars. That same year, Northeastern University awarded him a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications.

In 1985, Terry received a Los Angeles Emmy Award for ''K*I*D*S'', a TV miniseries he created, produced and directed. ''K*I*D*S'' was the story of a multi-racial group of teenagers struggling to cope with some of the adult-sized conflicts confronting youth in America today.

In 1987-88, Terry produced and directed ''JazzMasters'', a series of video portraits of twelve great jazz artists for TV2 Denmark. The series featured interviews and performances of Chet Baker, Kenny Drew, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Herbie Hancock, Bobby Hutcherson, Carmen McRae, James Moody, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Wayne Shorter, Clark Terry, and Randy Weston.

In 1988, Terry produced and directed the award-winning, Emmy-nominated TV musical documentary ''A Duke Named Ellington'' about the life and work of pianist, composer, bandleader and jazz legend Duke Ellington. Making this documentary required Terry to spend a lot of time in Copenhagen, Denmark, where Duke's son Mercer lived. On these projects, Beate Glatved worked as production manager and editor. She and Terry married in 1991.

In 1991, Terry was sent to China by the USIA (United States Information Agency), on a cultural lecture tour. He visited then-British Hong Kong, and Beijing, Chengdu, Chong Ching, Guang Zhou and Shen Yang, meeting Chinese filmmakers and students, and lecturing on his experience as a filmmaker in the U.S.

In 1992, Terry started research and development on what is to become a 90-minute documentary for PBS about African-American anthropologist, dancer, and choreographer Katherine Dunham, whose show-stopping performances greatly influenced the evolution of American dance theatre. Terry's biopic ''Katherine Dunham: Dancing with Life'' is about Ms. Dunham's extraordinary life and work.

In 1998, Terry appeared in the Swedish international thriller movie and TV miniseries ''Hamilton'', in which he played "Texas Slim" head of the CIA.

In 2001, Terry was commissioned by the Library of Congress to create the ''Katherine Dunham Technique'', a dance technique presentation as part of the Library's Katherine Dunham Legacy series. The two-and-half-hour video serves as a study guide for dance teachers, scholars and dancers.

Presently residing in Scandinavia while maintaining a base in New York City, Terry Carter continues to pursue his producing and acting careers on both continents.

Born Dirk Niewoehner in Montana in 1945, Benedict (his last name a stage name given to himself after enjoying a serving of Eggs Benedict) was an excellent high school athlete and aspiring musician.

His acting career began with an odd bet with his college football team members, which landed him in a leading role in a show at Whitman College in the state of Washington, and starring in many other productions. Graduating from college with a degree in Music, Benedict decided to pursue acting as a career, under the tutelage of John Fernald. Benedict played many roles in summer stock, performing many roles in classic plays by Shakespeare and Ipsen.

Benedict moved to New York and found supporting roles in several Broadway shows, including the leading role in the play, ''[[Wikipedia:Butterflies Are Free|Butterflies Are Free]]'' with the late [[Wikipedia:Gloria Swanson|Gloria Swanson]], who portrayed his mother.

Benedict found himself in small but interesting roles in some TV series, including work in ''[[Wikipedia:Hawaii Five-O|Hawaii Five-O]]'' and the lead in a one-season show by TV show mogul Aaron Spelling called ''Chopper One''. Benedict left acting for a few years in a lifelong desire to visit every state in the U.S.

Benedict's casting as "Starbuck" in "Battlestar Galactica" made him nationally famous. He made an appearance on the final episode of [[Galactica 1980]], entitled ''[[The Return of Starbuck]]''. This episode is considered by fans of the Original Series as the only significant contribution from "Galactica 1980", a show otherwise considered [[canon|noncanonical]] by many.

After these series, Benedict found popularity again as the character of Templeton "Faceman" Peck on the long-running early-1980s TV series, ''[[Wikipedia:The A-Team|The A-Team]]'', produced by Galactica's owner, Universal. In the show's opening credits in later seasons, a [[Centurion (TOS)|Cylon Centurion]] is shown walking by Benedict's character, who gives a peculiarly humorous look of recognition of the robot as an in-joke to the actor's past role as Starbuck.

Benedict returned to the stage after ''Galactica'' as well, gaining fame in many popular roles there, and played guest and starring roles in a handful of TV movies and series.

As casting for the [[Tom DeSanto|Singer/DeSanto Continuation Project]] of a new "Battlestar Galactica" series in 2001 began, Benedict was slated to play an older Starbuck in the new series. However, the project folded due to Bryan Singer's movie directing comittments and delays on the TV industry caused by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Benedict (with fellow Original Series actor [[Richard Hatch]]) loaned his voice talents as the Original Series Starbuck to the [[Video Game|Battlestar Galactica video game]] that appeared in 2003. The characters of Starbuck and Apollo are available as wingmen pilots for the game player, using a game cheat.

Benedict has yet to be cast in the [[Battlestar Galactica (RDM)|Re-imagined Series]]. He was considered for the role of the [[Armistice Officer]], but passed on the project. In another instance, he was considered to play a cigar-smoking [[God]] of the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] in a dream sequence with [[Gaius Baltar]] in a Season 1 episode, but the idea was later dismissed. The original "good mood" towards the new series resulted in a meeting with [[Katee Sackhoff]] at a Starbucks coffee shop as seen in the [[Battlestar Galactica: The Lowdown (Mini-Series)|mini-series Lowdown]]. Benedict passes a cigar to Sackhoff in a kind of "passing the torch" ceremony.

However, in a May 2004 article from [[Wikipedia:Dreamwatch|Dreamwatch Magazine]] entitled "Starbuck: Lost in Castration" <ref name="dreamwatch">''Starbuck: Lost in Castration'' Mirrored at [http://www.dirkbenedictcentral.com/home/articles-readarticle.php?nid=5 www.dirkbenedictcentral.com]</ref>, Benedict harshly criticized the Re-imagined Series, citing its dark tone and supposed moral relativism:

Benedict devoted the greatest part of the article to criticizing the producers' decision to turn Starbuck into a female character, [[Kara Thrace]] (whom Benedict derisively calls "Stardoe" throughout his commentary), tying it in to what he perceived as a general anti-masculinity agenda:

The male characters, from Adama on down, are confused, weak, and wracked with indecision while the female characters are decisive, bold, angry as hell, puffing cigars (gasp) and not about to take it any more.''

==Personal life==

Benedict married actress Toni Hudson in 1986 but they divorced nine year later. He lives in Montana with his sons, George and Roland. At ''Galacticon'', the 25th anniversary convention, Benedict revealed that he has a third son named John. Unknown to Dirk, John was born in 1968 and given up for adoption. They connected for the first time when John was an adult.

==Celebrity Big Brother 2007==
On the 3rd January 2007 Benedict was the eleventh housemate to enter the [[w:Celebrity Big Brother 2007 (UK)|Celebrity Big Brother UK house]]. He arrived, accompanied by the A-team theme tune and in a replica A-Team Van. He also smoked a cigar on his entrance to the house, and claimed he had a whole stock of cigars in his bag.

I'd think if he lost his biological mother he would mourn for her instead of, or in addition to, his pet. There's never any talk of Serina adopting him, or him having to go to the "Orphan ship". I'd lean towards her being his mother, at least in the legal guardian sense at the time of the attack. Hey! :-) I have the same thoughts as LordHart, although I have no prove to it. Until reading Boxey's bio here, I also thought that Serina wasn't his biological mother. She might have been a legal guardian to the boy, as she called out for him the minute the attacks started and cared for him in the aftermath, but Serina wasn't his mother. Could it be there's another 'canon' in the books than on the show? In the end I agree with Steelviper - it doesn's really matter if she's his biological mom or not. To appease the boy's anguish, [[Apollo (TOS)|Flight Commander Apollo]] of the ''[[Battlestar (TOS)|Battlestar]] [[Galactica (TOS)|Galactica]]'' had talked to Doctor [[Wilker]], an electronics expert, into giving the boy a prototype of an automaton-generated daggit, the [[Muffit II]]. Previously, Apollo attempted to give him one of his ranking pins as Boxey seemed to respond to him as a fatherly, [[Warrior]]-like figure ([[Saga of a Star World]]).

Boxey was tasked with training the "Muffit II" to act as a real daggit. It was made easier as Wilker scanned his image into the daggit's memory. Although Boxey was initially confused, he began to recover from the devastating loss ([[Saga of a Star World]]). But the worst was yet to come, as his mother was soon to die at the hand of a Cylon ([[Lost Planet of the Gods]]).

Boxey was involved with the planetary expedition to [[Carillon]], a planetoid practically brimming with [[tylium]]. During this expedition, he was the first to be "captured" by the planetary inhabitants, the humanoid-insect race known as the [[Ovions]]. Serina, Apollo, and [[Jolly (TOS)|Flight Sergeant Jolly]] were also surrounded and brought to the boy thanks to the Ovion's queen, [[Lotay]].

The boy managed to get himself into entanglements due to the automated daggit, making his way to the lower levels of the mine underneath the chancery where everyone is made obese and senses made dull. Apollo and Starbuck, who stumbled upon the Cylons that were within the mine, freed [[Cassiopeia]] and rescued the boy from the carnivorous Ovions ([[Saga of a Star World]]).

Boxey, with his newfound pet, bore witness to the [[Seal]]ing of Serina and Apollo. He also bore witness to his mother's entrance in the Fleet's Viper corps, although her tour of duty was short lived. Along with his father, Boxey mourned the death of his mother, which they managed to work through eventually ([[Lost Planet of the Gods]]).

When Boxey's father, Apollo, went missing and presumed unreachable, no one had the heart to tell him about his father. [[Starbuck (TOS)|Starbuck]] and [[Boomer (TOS)|Boomer]] took to babysitting the tyke, who managed to get away with the spoils of [[pyramid (TOS)|pyramid]] from [[Greenbean]], Jolly and other pilots. Unfortunately, he was unable to fully enjoy the [[mushies]] as he was suddenly torn away from the game and care of the warriors from a fretful Cassiopeia, despite defending their unique approach at babysitting ([[The Lost Warrior]]).

Boxey seemed to visit [[Core Command]] without chastisement a variety of times, including the time where the ''Galactica'' lead the Fleet from the [[Cyranus Galaxy]] through asteroid dust ([[The Long Patrol]]).

When the [[Cylons (TOS)|Cylon]]-manned [[Ravishol Pulsar]] threatened the Fleet, Apollo handed him a medallion his father gave him after graduating from the Colonial Military Academy before going off on the mission. He seemed to be quite curious, explaining to his father that he'd never seen snow before, although he forbade it. When the [[shuttle]] sent by the ''Galactica'' crashed into Sector Hekla of ice planet [[Arcta]], Boxey was discovered along with his daggit in the [[snowram]]. Boxey was later secreted in the [[Theta|Thetas]]' underground city after they were saved by Thetas lead by [[Ser 5-9]] ([[Gun on Ice Planet Zero]]).

Boxey also partook in the mission to obtain [[agro|agron]] seeds from the long-forgotten [[agron colony]] of [[Sectar (planet)|Sectar]], although he stayed behind on the shuttle with Flight Sergeant Jolly ([[The Magnificent Warriors]]).

Along with Lieutenant Boomer, [[Athena (TOS)|Ensign Athena]], and other ''Galactica'' personnel he and Muffit were trapped in the [[rejuvenation center]] while the ship was ablaze, thanks to kamikaze [[Cylon Raider|Cylon raiders]] packed with [[solonite]]. His pet, fortunately, managed to save not only them but also a downed firefighter ([[Fire in Space]]).

Other peers in the ''Galactica'''s instructional programs influenced Boxey's decisions and behaviors, especially during [[Iblis]]' visitation to the Fleet. He took to heart that his father was a coward who wouldn't face Boomer and his Blue Team since they were said to defeat Apollo and Starbuck's Red Team, should there be a game. Saddened by this, he managed to persuade Boxey that this was not so -- Apollo subsequently played [[Triad (TOS)|Triad]] with the Blue Team. Unknown to anyone, Boomer was possessed by Count Iblis, and thus won the game due to Iblis' feats of "magic" ([[War of the Gods]]).

Boxey was later a part of the instructional period that discussed about why the "[[Earthlings]]" ([[Michael]], [[Sarah]], and their children) weren't coming out of their vessel that his father and Starbuck picked up on their patrol ([[Greetings from Earth]]). Evidently, his intuition and drive would lead him to the future, and may very well be a part of the Fleet's future as a whole…
