[[Kara Thrace]] walks in an greets him, and they briefly discuss the temple, and the absence of William Adama and [[Laura Roslin]]. Lee comments on how both he and Tigh are intimidated by Adama's chair. Thrace talks about how [[Leoben Conoy|Leoben]] stated that, for children to reach their full potential, their parents have to die.
*In the [[Basestar command|basestar control room]], Roslin, William Adama, [[D'Anna Biers]] and Leoben discuss the plans to return the [[Final Five]]. Biers mentions that there are only four in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] and refuses to provide answers when Roslin questions her about the fifth's location. *In [[CIC]], [[Felix Gaeta]] - having returned to duty despite still having problems with his [[Guess What's Coming to Dinner|amputated leg]] - accidentally knocks over a bottle of pills. [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]] helps him by picking up the pill bottle. Colonel [[Saul Tigh|Tigh]] asks Gaeta if he wishes to be relieved, but he declines and takes a drink to numb the pain.
*Gaeta then announces the arrival of the rebel baseship and that a Raptor launched from it. On the [[hangar deck]], Adama and Biers step out of the Raptor. [[Galen Tyrol]] and [[Samuel Anders]] look on from the catwalk, wondering whether Biers can or will identify them. While William Adama greets his son, Biers steps off the Raptor and looks at each of the Final Four.

Biers claims that she is already in contact with the four, that they would come to her willingly and that all the Fleet needs to do is not interfere with shuttle traffic. The Adamas agree to her terms. As Biers is about to leave, [[Tory Foster]] steps forward, asking to bring Roslin her medication and see if she is alright. Knowing that she wants to defect, Tigh tries to prevent her from going by saying that they shouldn't give the Cylons more hostages, but he is overruled by the Adamas.
*In the Adama's quarters, William and Lee Adama, Tigh and Thrace discuss a plan to rescue the hostages. The admiral mentions Roslin's recommendation, but tells his son that it is his call. President Adama agrees.

=== Act 1 ===
*In the [[Situation Room]], [[Sharon Agathon]] and Thrace officially present their rescue plan. Tigh expresses skepticism at the expected high losses of boarding the basestar, saying there have to be other options. Thrace sarcastically comments that the four could just give themselves up.
*On the basestar, Foster is led to the control room. Biers announces that one of the Final Five has arrived. [[Number Two|Leoben]] expresses doubt, but Biers attests that she saw her in her vision. Foster smiles as the Cylons gather around her in amazement.
*In another room, Roslin bandages [[Gaius Baltar]], who thanks her for not killing him, but Roslin confesses that she told Adama to destroy the basestar should the Cylons get the four. Foster walks in with a [[Number Six|Six]], greeting them and bringing Roslin her medication. Roslin thanks her, and asks how she was able to do so, and Foster says that she came with Biers to be with her people. Baltar attests that he subconsciously knew, that she was one of the Final Five. When asked if she had any idea, Roslin says no, and Foster tells her it might be worth pondering other things she has been wrong about, then starts to walk out. Roslin tells her to stop, and asks her to convince Biers to release the hostages. Foster coldly replies that she's done taking orders from her.
*A body flies out of the baseship. In CIC, Lee Adama receives a transmission from Biers, who announces that there has been a change of plans. She has executed the first hostage and will continue to execute hostages every quarter hour until they have the four. Adama tries to reason with her, telling her that she did not giving them a chance and that they are co-operating, but Dualla states that Biers has terminated the transmission. As a result, Adama authorizes the rescue mission and to destroy the baseship should it fail
*On the hangar deck, as the pilots and deck crew prepare for the mission, Tyrol begins hearing the [[The Music|strange music]] again, heavily distorted by screeching and static. In a [[pilot ready rooms|pilot ready room]], as Starbuck and Athena brief the pilots, Anders likewise hears the music, as does Foster on the basestar.
*On ''Galactica'' Anders, Tigh and Tyrol are drawn to [[Starbuck's Viper|Thrace's Viper]]. Tyrol suggests that something about the Viper has changed, and Anders suggests they get Thrace. Tigh agrees, then walks out.
*Tigh walks into William Adama's office, telling him to scrub the mission. When asked if he has another option instead, Tigh confesses that he has known that he is a Cylon since the [[Ionian nebula]]. Adama expresses doubt and can't believe that his decade-long friend could by a Cylon. He suggests that Tigh could have been brainwashed on [[New Caprica]] and says they should see Doctor [[Cottle]]. Tigh says that he should have killed himself when he found out and suggests that Biers will back down if he is used as a hostage.

*As [[Colonial Marine Corps|Marines]] escort Tigh through the hallways, William Adama suffers a nervous breakdown. He rampages through his office, smashes his fist into a mirror and drinks heavily. As Adama cries, his son finds him and tries to comfort him. Adama says that he can't kill Tigh and Lee tells him that he will handle it.
*In a [[Launch tube (RDM)|launch tube]], Lee Adama interrogates Tigh, demanding to know who the other Cylons are. From the control room, [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]] announces that Biers is on the line. Adama threatens to kill Tigh if she harms one of the hostages, and says that she has ten minutes before he kills him. From Tigh he again demands the identities of the rest of the Final Four in order to save the Fleet.
*Standing next to her Viper, Thrace expresses doubt about Anders's and Tyrol's suspicion regarding the Viper. Marines come in and arrest Anders and Tyrol. As he is dragged away, Anders insists that something is different about the Viper.
*On the basestar, an [[Number Eight]] and two [[Cylon Centurion|Centurions]] force the captured pilots down a hallway. [[Brendan Costanza|Hot Dog]] tells the pilots to fall back, and the Eight threatens to shoot them if they don't keep moving.
*Anders and Tyrol are brought into the launch tube to join Tigh. Lee Adama orders Dualla to get the baseship on the line again.
*On the hangar deck, Thrace climbs into her Viper's cockpit.
*On the baseship, Roslin and Baltar hear the hostages and Centurions. A Number Two walks in and Roslin asks what's going on. The Two says that Biers is about to start executing more hostages. When Roslin requests that she be taken to Biers, Baltar insists that she won't listen to her, and that he be taken instead, because he was with her when she had the vision in the [[Temple of Five]]. Roslin agrees.
*Lee Adama tells Biers that he has Anders and Tyrol in the airlock, and demands that she stand down.
*Thrace begins activating her Viper's systems.
*Tory Foster tells Biers that she knows Adama and that he will back down if pressure. Biers orders to target nuclear weapons on the civilian fleet when Baltar walks in and begins begins talking to her.
*Thrace continues activating her electronics and suddenly detects a signal with one instrument.
*Baltar argues that coercion won't work with Lee Adama because he is too similar to his father, while Foster argues that he is bluffing.
*Dualla tells Adama that the baseship's nuclear missiles have gone hot. Both conclude that the Fleet couldn't spool up their [[FTL|jump drives]] quickly enough to escape before the Cylons fire. Adama orders that everyone except Tigh be removed from the tube.
*On the basestar, Baltar suggests that [[God (RDM)|God]] may have brought Biers back for a different purpose, to end the conflict peacefully. She argues that the Colonials will never forgive the Cylons for [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|what they did to the Twelve Colonies]], and gives the order to proceed.
*As the launch tube door closes, Thrace runs through the ship.
*Baltar argues to Biers that brute force did not work for the Cylons on [[New Caprica]] or the [[algae planet]], and that it will not work now.
*Adama asks Dualla for the key and begins the process of de-pressurizing the launch tube.
*An Eight announces that they have weapons lock on the Colonial ships.
*Tigh tells Adama to stop hesitating and flush the airlock. As Adama is about to push the button, Thrace runs in, telling Adama to stop. She says that the Cylons just gave them [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]].

=== Act 3 ===

*Lee Adama sits in Thrace's Viper, recognizing a Colonial emergency locator signal, and notes that no other [[wireless]] in the Fleet is picking it up. Thrace argues to a skeptical Adama that it must be a signal from Earth, insisting that some higher power is orchestrating events for a purpose and wants the Colonials to find Earth with the Cylons.
*Thrace, Lee Adama, the Final Four, Biers, Marines and Centurions stand around the Viper and an Eight sits inside. They discuss the signal. Adama says that he decided to share the information with the Cylons rather than jump away, because it would only lead to another confrontation down the road. He argues that peace is possible and says that he has granted the Final Four an amnesty. Biers agrees to release the hostages.
*Adama shows his father the location of Earth, asking for orders. Roslin walks in and says she wants to see him pick up the first fistful of earth. He walks away saying that he'll be back. Lee Adama talks to Roslin about stepping down, and she praises him on resolving the crisis, saying the Fleet will need that kind of leadership in the years to come.
*Admiral Adama returns in uniform, saying they should find Earth. His son says that he has been working on a recon mission with Thrace. Admiral Adama replies that everyone should go together, that they don't have anywhere else to go, and that the alliance will fall apart if they hesitate too long. === Act 4 ===

*In the CIC, Dualla announces that the Fleet is ready to jump. Admiral Adama tells Roslin that they wouldn't have made it without her and asks her to give the order. She does so. Dualla counts down and the Fleet jumps.
*The entire Fleet - now including the rebel basestar - successfully jumps. Adama tells Gaeta to take his time with confirming their location. After some seconds, Gaeta announces that the [[Tomb of Athena|constellations]] match. The Fleet has jumped into orbit of a blue/white planet - Earth.
*Adama makes a speech to the whole Fleet, announcing that they have arrived at Earth. All over ''Galactica'' and throughout the Fleet people rejoice ecstatically.

*A detachment of Vipers, [[Raptors]], [[Heavy Raider]]s, [[Cylon freighter (RDM)|Cylon freighters]], as well as several civilian ships fly towards the surface.
*On Earth, Adama lifts up a handful of soil. Someone next to him reads the dirt with a [[w:Geiger counter|Geiger counter]]. The soil is irradiated. Laura Roslin stands next to Adama, disappointed. Biers is stunned.
*Many others, including [[Karl Agathon|Karl]] and [[Sharon Agathon]], Gaius Baltar, Lee Adama, Kara Thrace, the Final Four, and the Cylons are on the surface as well, walking and standing around on a riverbank near the ruins of a city, which was apparently destroyed. The mood is dismal, with everyone probably wondering what happened to Earth and what they will do next.

== Notes ==

* This episode is the mid-season cliffhanger for the first ten episodes of [[Season 4 (2008-09)|Season 4]]. The conclusion to the cliffhanger, "[[Sometimes a Great Notion]]", will not air until 2009.
* The episode was given an advance screening in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 11th, in order to draw attention for the upcoming Emmy Award nominations. <ref>{{cite_web|url=http://syfyportal.com/news425104.html|title='Battlestar Galactica' Hosting Free Screening In L.A.}}</ref>
* According to comments made by Ronald Moore at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con (and included on the Season 4.0 DVD), "Revelations" was designed to be the final episode of the series, in the event the SAG Writer's Strike had prevented the series from continuing.
* As Biers executes one prisoner during the course of the episode, the population of the Fleet when it arrives at Earth is 39,664, not counting the as yet unknown number of copies of the four Significant Seven Cylon models who have now joined them.
* The page from the [[Book of Pythia]] depicting the Temple of Aurora is the same two page spread used to represent the [[City of the Gods]] on [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]] from "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]".
* The rhythm of the beacon signal matches the rhythm of [[the Music]].
*It remains to be seen if the rebel Cylons will be counted in the Survivor Count now they have joined the Fleet. So far only Sharon Agathon and Caprica-Six, arguably rebel Cylon themselves, have been counted despite never being considered human.

== Analysis ==

=== General ===

*The survivor count drops by 8 from the previous episode. Allowing for the fact that Pike's death has been counted already and assuming no deaths in the Fleet, these eight Colonial deaths occur as a result of the [[Battle of the Resurrection Hub]]. Two of these casualties at least seem to be Viper pilots given the wrecked Vipers seen derelict at the battle site ([[Sine Qua Non]]). Pike's ECO is also one of the dead. However a possible continuity error occurs in the count between the episodes "Sine Qua Non" and "The Hub", as the episodes take place concurrently, yet the population drops by one in between (possibly Pike's death).
* When Thrace says to Lee Adama (while he is looking at the drawing of the Temple of Aurora) "We'll get there, and walk those halls together", Adama says "Yeah, pretty to think so." This could be a reference to the last line of Ernest Hemingway's ''[[w:The Sun Also Rises|The Sun Also Rises]]'' when Jake Barnes says "Yeah, isn't it pretty to think so?" about the idea that he and Brett Ashley could have been in love.
*There is one flaw in Biers's hostage plan: It is not explained how she believes the Final Four would be able to make it onto her basestar without being detained first by the Colonials. One of them could always be taken as a hostage by the Colonials as a counter-move. Though, presumably they would try to find a covert way to leave the ship, much like [[Tory Foster]].

=== Characters ===

* Biers holding the Colonial personnel hostage isn't aimed so much as to President Adama and the government, as it is to the remaining three of the Final Four who choose to remain behind. When Foster moves to defect under the guise of giving Roslin her medicine, Colonel Tigh speaks up to prevent her from going. This earns Tigh and the other two who refuse to come forward Biers's enmity and she begins killing their crew mates until they join the Cylons.
* Roslin's plan to hold Biers and her knowledge to herself is shown to have already failed at the start of this episode. Biers has already made it clear she will not co-operate and is walking freely around the basestar. The plan was never likely to succeed given that the Colonials on the rebel basestar are totally outnumbered and cut off from the Fleet. In fact, Roslin and Adama's decision to double-cross the Cylons ([[Guess What's Coming to Dinner?]]) may well have precipitated the entire hostage crisis, as the rebels decided to return to their original plan only after learning that the Colonials have no intention of turning over the Final Five.
* [[Tory Foster]] actively advises Biers in her test of wills with Lee Adama, pressing for more aggressive tactics. She appears to be embracing her Cylon nature, including the antagonism towards mankind. In doing so, she parallels the origins of the Cylon War, rebelling against those she had earlier served.
* [[Sharon Agathon]] appears to have been released from the [[brig]] despite her shooting of [[Natalie]], although there is no explicit on screen explanation given for this. Her involvement in planning the rescue mission could be part of her parole, or it is possible Roslin confirmed to Admiral Adama that they have been experiencing and sharing powerful visions that have affected their behavior. Curiously, this is not the first time that the Agathons have escaped severe punishment for potentially mutinous actions. It is also in Admiral Adama's character to be forgiving of the actions of the officers and crew, most notably Kara Thrace, if there is compelling reason.
* Admiral Adama has apparently reassigned [[Galen Tyrol]] to the hangar deck. In previous episodes Tyrol often worked in other areas of the ship. This may be another example of Adama's forbearance toward his crew. However, he has not as yet restored Tyrol's old rank. Instead, [[Peter Laird]] is shown as the chief of the deck, having likely occupied that position since Tyrol's demotion.
**This is Laird's first chronological appearance since "[[Resurrection Ship, Part I]]". He appeared in "[[Razor]]" in flashback scenes, and was mentioned as an active deckhand in "[[Sine Qua Non]]".
* The Six walking up to Saul Tigh on Earth appears to be [[Caprica-Six]]. This indicates that Adama's general amnesty extends to her as well and that she is free to join the Cylon rebels on their baseship; a fact that is confirmed by [[Mark Verheiden]] in [http://www.comicmix.com/news/2008/06/18/battlestar-galactica-interview-mark-verheiden-on-cylon-amnesty-and-finding-earth/?cid=9445 this] interview.
* With the destruction of the Hub, Biers becomes the closest a Cylon has come to being human: along with mortality, she, as the last of her model, is unique in all the universe.

=== Earth ===

* One of the first visual clues that [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] lacks a widespread, technologically advanced civilization comes in the establishing shots of the planet when the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] arrives in orbit. The night side of the planet is steeped in total darkness, whereas the city lights of an inhabited planet with an industrialized civilization would be clearly visible on its night side, as seen in this [http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/image/earth_night.jpg composite satellite photograph] of the Earth at night.
* How Earth came to the state which the Fleet finds it in is uncertain. Given that the landing party tests the soil with a [[wikipedia:Geiger counter|Geiger counter]], and the ruins they come across appear to be from a nuclear blast, it is likely that some nuclear event occurred on Earth.
* Together with the clear remnants of a modern civilization, this indicates that the series is set in the future or an alternate universe completely different from ours. It refutes some theories that the show is set far in the past, for example in time of ancient Greece.
* Assuming that a nuclear event was responsible for the current condition of Earth, it appears that it happened a considerable number of years, if not decades or hundreds of years, ago. Less than a week after the Cylon bombardment, the planet [[Caprica (RDM)|Caprica]] had turned yellowish-brown from dust blasted into the atmosphere, creating a [[w:nuclear winter|nuclear winter]] ([[33]]). Nine months later, someone on Caprica would have still seen yellow skies ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]). Although the soil of Earth at the landing site is radioactive, the skies are a natural foggy/cloudy gray, and the view from orbit is of a blue-white world.
** The ruins shown on Earth, however, do not appear to be nearly as ancient as the ruins on Kobol, given the contrast in the degradation of the buildings. This could place the destruction of Earth well within the 2,000-year period since the exodus from Kobol.
* The area at which the landing party arrives appears to be the [[Wikipedia:Brooklyn|Brooklyn]] side of [[w:New York City|New York City]]. The landing party is next to a broad river and across that river to the left is a wide bay. The other shore appears to be the edge of Lower Manhattan with a destroyed skyline of buildings. The camera pans to the right over what is ostensibly the [[w:East River|East River]] until the last two seconds of the episode, where at the far right edge of the screen stands a wrecked structure with which appears to be a heavily abbreviated roadway. It appears to be the East Tower (Brooklyn side) of the [[w:Brooklyn Bridge|Brooklyn Bridge]]. However, it should be noted that the information on this is incomplete. For instance, many speculations as to the gas giant that [[Kara Thrace]] sees in her journey from Earth (as first explained in "[[He That Believeth in Me]]") claimed that the giant was [[w:Jupiter|Jupiter]], when this was [[Faith|later disproved]].
**In what may be a coincidence, not far from the Eastern approaches to the real-life Brooklyn Bridge in [[Wikipedia:Brooklyn, New York|Brooklyn, New York]] and close to the northern shore of the [[w:borough|borough]], there is a building owned by the [[Wikipedia:The Jehovah's Witnesses|Jehovah's Witnesses]]. It is called "[http://www.kelebekler.com/cesnur/txt/sedewts.jpg The Watchtower]". The relevance is that the song that the Final Four heard is actually ''[[Wikipedia:All Along the Watchtower|All Along the Watchtower]]'' by Bob Dylan, though there is no known connection between the song and the religion. Further, the building is [http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&q=watchtower&near=Brooklyn,+NY&fb=1&t=h&ll=40.702879,-73.994551&spn=0.003221,0.00559&z=17 situated very near if not the exact place] the landing party stands at. However, while the precise area of where they landed is still ambiguous, Ronald D. Moore's [http://media.scifi.com/battlestar/downloads/podcast/mp3/412/bsg_ep412_FULL.mp3 podcast of this episode] does hint that it could be New York City. More directly, by way of conversation, he says outright that the structure at the right side edge of the screen is definitely a bridge.
**The Brooklyn Bridge was built prior to the use of [[Wikipedia:Rebar|rebar]] in the USA, although the bridge in the scene shows metal rods. These metal rods are most likely the remains from side railings and cross struts of the roadway since at that scale and distance rebar, which even at its maximum diameter is only 2.257" thick (US standard sizes), could not be seen so easily with the naked eye.
**The scene shows [http://melancholygeek.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/earth8.png many ruins immersed in the water], suggesting raised water levels, though the view of Earth in "[[Crossroads, Part I]]" appears to show normal sea levels.
*Other possible cities that are speculated about are [http://darthmojo.wordpress.com/2008/07/02/bsg-vfx-revelations/ Vancouver] and [[w:Sydney, Australia|Sydney, Australia]] (in which case the bridge would be the Harbor Bridge). If the landing area is Sydney, then in what may be a coincidence, the party would have landed next to the real-life location of a [[w:St Aloysius' College (Sydney)|Saint Aloysius' College]], which is a Roman Catholic college, and is adorned with [[w:Image:St Aloysius College Sydney.jpg|a large cross]]. In the episode [http://waffleimages.nwpshost.com/files/a1/a1d56c8462d4ac2e58dfb71b1d7e954e1507d8fe.jpg a large cross] can be seen sitting amongst a pile of rubble. An interesting fact is that directly across the bay from Saint Aloysius' College stands possibly the most famous [[Opera House]] on Earth, the [[w:Sydney Opera House|Sydney Opera House]].
*[http://community.livejournal.com/battlestar_blog/1160816.html A statue] can be seen, which may be the Statue of Liberty (though unlikely given the location), or [http://messagesfromearth.wordpress.com/2008/07/03/bsg-revelations-what-do-these-images-mean/ a Colossus-like statue], of which there are none in either New York, Sydney, or Vancouver. Leaving the statue to be either a representation of the Statue of Liberty, or something totally unrelated to real-life monuments.

* The episode skips a teaser, beginning with the "Twelve Cylons" opener and the cast credits appearing as scenes of the devastated [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] appear.
* The leaders and central staff of both [[The Fleet (RDM)|the Fleet]] and the rebel [[Basestar (RDM)|baseship]] wander about aimlessly on the surface of a planet whose surface has been utterly destroyed in a nuclear conflagration for some time. [[Saul Tigh]] stands on a desolate beach, staring out at the ruins of buildings, their mangled shortened skeletons jutting up from the lands ahead in jagged spires. [[Gaius Baltar]] and [[Samuel Anders]] stand about the ruins in confusion, as does [[Anastasia Dualla]], who stoops at the water's edge to mournfully examine it.
* [[Lee Adama]] grimaces as he looks about the dead landscape as [[Laura Roslin]] picks up a short rounded prickly plant, the only visible life found on the world.

* Baltar has a team confirming that the radiation from the holocaust has embedded itself in the plant life and water chain. Helo gives a more detailed version of Baltar's findings: the planet was nuked over 2,000 years prior.
* Roslin quips, "It's perfect. We traded one nuked civilization for another." Adama orders his [[Raptor]] to leave.
* Dualla is near a breakdown as their Raptor returns to ''[[Galactica]]''.
* The [[hangar deck]] is filled with people, anxious for any news on the new world. But Roslin, typically someone who can manage to say anything in the darkest times, can only mutter to Adama, "Get me out of here." Lee Adama tries to placate the crowd's confusion and questions, shouting that the news will be revealed in due time.

* Kara Thrace and Leoben continue to narrow in on the Colonial signal when she finds the beacon: a standard issue ''Colonial'' device used for all aircraft, part of their [[Avionics|inertial navigation system]].
* Leoben finds some wreckage and reads off the number on its charred skin: "757-NC." Kara immediately becomes agitated. "The number on my [[Viper Mark II|(Viper)]] is 8757-NC," she says--the Viper that she flew back to the Fleet after she was [[Maelstrom|apparently killed]].
* On ''Galactica'', the Agathon family plays together happily as Dualla comes over to babysit little [[Hera Agathon]]. While Dualla says to the Agathons that she "looks forward" to spending time with the child, she later tells young Agathon as her parents leave, " You have no idea what's happened, do you? Today's just another day."
* On the planet, amidst some human skeletons dug up, [[Caprica-Six]] and others find something very unexpected: the remains of a head of what is obviously a type of Cylon Centurion, similar to the old [[Cylon Centurion Model 0005|original model]] from the [[First Cylon War]], but clearly not the same.
* Aboard ''Galactica'' in Baltar's lab, Caprica-Six confirms that other Centurion helmets were found with about 250 skeletons from four sites around the planet as well. A [[Number Eight]] confirms that, while the Centurion design is similar, they have never seen this design before.
* Roslin notes that, apparently, the [[Thirteenth Tribe (RDM)|Thirteenth Tribe]] created their own Cylons (paralleling what occurred in the [[Twelve Colonies of Kobol]]). Lee Adama completes her sentence: Like on the Colonies, these Cylons also rebelled against their masters.
*Baltar notes that they dug deeper to test the skeletons themselves. The astonishing fact, confirmed by his Caprica-Six, is that the every one of the skeletons themselves are also [[Humanoid Cylons|a form of humanoid Cylons]]. ''The Thirteenth Tribe were Cylons''.
* After the meeting, Lee Adama asks Roslin what she will say to the [[Quorum of Twelve (RDM)|Quorum]]. But a visibly disheartened Roslin has nothing to say at all. Admiral Adama tells his son to "carry the ball" for Roslin.
*As the admiral and Roslin leave, Tigh asks to speak to his friend, but the scene is unclear if Adama stops to listen.
*Back on the planet, [[Galen Tyrol]] is attracted to a fragment of wall. As he gets closer, he hears echoes of ghosts saying things like "Fresh fruit, get your fresh fruit!" He sees a human silhouette on the wall, looking as if it were painted there. Surrounding the silhouette is weathered writing, barely readable. Tyrol touches the silhouette--and is thrown into a vision of the world as it once was, and Tyrol as he once was, wearing glasses and a sportcoat as he passes through a bustling marketplace of open carts of fruit and flowers and other goods. He stops to buy an avacado himself then continues walking. A massively bright flash of light appears as Tyrol shields his eyes--
* Tyrol stumbles back, falling to the ground.
* Elsewhere, Kara Thrace questions that, if her Viper is scattered about this planet, then who flew it here, and how did she herself get back to ''Galactica''. Leoben cautions her, telling her, "[[#Noteworthy_Dialogue|You might not like what you find.]]" Thrace is perturbed by his words as Leoben has been, typically, very optimistic in his words to her in the past. She questions if the news would be more disturbing to her, or to Leoben himself.
* In the [[ready room]], Lee Adama stands in thought as Dualla appears, asking him why he hasn't boarded a readied Raptor for his Quorum briefing on ''[[Colonial One]]''. Adama laments the many pilots that had once sat here, many of them lost forever over a dead dream. He doesn't want their sacrifice to be meaningless.
* Dualla tells him that his expression reminds her of what he looked like when his father said that he would [[Exodus, Part I|execute the New Caprica rescue with ''Galactica'' alone.]] When he wonders what to say to the Quorum, Dualla tells him to tell the truth. "If anyone can give them a reason to go on, it's you. Apollo." As he leaves, hesitant, he asks her to meet him for a drink later. She accepts.

* Kara Thrace finds a large piece of wreckage, overturned. She and Leoben turn it over. It's a Viper cockpit, the burnt remains of its pilot still helmeted, still inside. Cautiously, she lifts the head to find it had blonde hair...''her'' hair. Thrace retches.
* As tears well up, she reaches inside the [[flight suit]] of the body to pull out the [[dog tags]]. In clear letters, the tags read "K. THRACE." A ring, her wedding band, is also attached to the chain. Leoben steps back in fear as Thrace asks for an explanation. "I--I don't have one," he says. She recalls what the [[Hybrid]] said, that she would be the "harbinger of death." She yells to the Leoben as he walks away, unable to answer her question, "If that's me sitting there, then what am I?!"

* [[Samuel Anders]] finds the remains of a stringed instrument, probably a guitar. He holds the neck piece, placing his fingers on it as if to play as he recalls a song: [[The Music|"So let us not talk falsely now, 'cause the hour is getting late."]]. He drops the neck and runs to find Tyrol, sitting placidly by the wall and the vision. They both share their visions, both realizing they lived there, in that area, once. Anders recalls that he played that song for a woman he loved. They are joined by [[Tory Foster]], who also recalls that he played that song for [[Final Five|all of us]].
* "That was me," Tyrol says, pointing to the flash-silhouette on the wall.
* Anders angrily questions the paradox. Why they were all still alive? How did they come to the Colonies, to believe they were human? "Two thousand years is a long time to forget!" he says.

* In Admiral Adama's quarters, Laura Roslin sits on the floor. She has set fire to one of the pages of the [[Sacred Scrolls]], specifically, the Pythian Prophecy, turning successive pages to burn each into ash, one by one.
* Adama arrives to ask Roslin to help figure out a way to shore up the Fleet's quickly sagging morale. She is passive. He tells her that she'd missed her [[doloxan]] treatment. Roslin "didn't feel like it," she says, refusing to reschedule. "You just gonna...lie down and quit?" Adama asks. She laments that he took her advice to leave their Colonial solar system, of all the men and women who had died for what appears to be a fruitless series of visions.

* In the twilight, Kara Thrace creates a funeral pyre, burning the corpse of herself found in the wreckage, sitting alone as the flames consume it.

* Lee Adama and Dualla come back from her date as he humorously (and drunkenly) recalls his report to the Quorum. "We are no longer enslaved to the ramblings of Pythia, no longer pecking at the bread crumbs of the Thirteenth Tribe...We are now free to go where we want to go, be who we want to be." Dualla smiles back warmly as they kiss. They stop kissing mutually both stopping from it getting further. Dualla bids Lee goodbye and enters her quarters. Inside, [[Felix Gaeta]] watches her as she hums. "You're glowing," he says with slight amazement. Then he makes a comment on how Earth is a waste of a planet. Dualla chides him form bringing up the subject. "I want to hold on to this feeling for as long as I can." She looks at a childhood picture of herself in her opened locker, taking off her pendant. "She has no idea what she has ahead of her," she says of her younger self. Gaeta leaves as Dualla stops humming briefly looking at him leave in the mirror, then resumes humming. She looks at a cameo of her parents and then calmly places her wedding ring on the locker hook.
* Without any hesitation at all, Dualla pulls out a sidearm from her locker, places it against her temple, and fires.
* [[Diana Seelix]] arrives inside first, with Gaeta not far behind. Both are aghast at the sight of Dualla's body, blood pooling around her hands. They call for medics repeatedly in fear and distress as the scene ends.

===Act 4===

* Lee Adama stands by the shrouded body of Anastasia Dualla in the ship's morgue as his father enters. "She kissed me goodnight 45 minutes ago, and there was joy in her eyes. So tell me why would she do this?" Lee asks. The admiral's stony face melts into a drunken expression. "I don't frakkin' know," he slurs out, taking out a bottle of alcohol to offer to Lee, who refuses it. Anger rising in his face, Lee leaves, passing by Gaeta outside without a word.
* Inside, Admiral Adama looks under the shroud momentarily, covers Dualla's body, as he cries, holding her head, asking to himself, "What did you do?" He kisses the body, saying, "I let you down. I let everybody down."

* Adama comes out into a corridor, demands a sidearm from one of the [[marines]] standing there. Adama storms down a corridor as other stand or sit expressionless. Two men are fist-fighting, crossing Adama's path. He ignores them as he heads to Saul Tigh's quarters.
* "Sit down, Cylon," Adama says angrily after pulling out Tigh's sidearm, arms it and drops it on a table. Adama pours both of them a drink, but Tigh slowly pushes it away.
* Tigh tries to apologize about his revelation of being a Cylon, but Adama is beyond angry. "Is that how it worked? They program you to be my friend? Emulate all the qualities I respect. Tell me jokes...and I laugh at them."
* Tigh counters that he wanted, chose to be his friend. Adama throws insult after insult about [[Ellen Tigh]], angering Tigh to pick up the sidearm to shoot his friend. "Do it! Or I'll do it myself!" Adama says, pointing his own sidearm to his temple.

===Act 5===

* Tigh's gun is pointed at Adama's forehead, but he hesitates pulling the trigger. Adama goads him, "Go on," but Tigh realizes, returning Adama's insult as he rips out the gun's magazine and safes the weapon. "I'm sorry, Bill, but this is the one time I can't help you." Adama drops his gun and reaches for a bottle, but Tigh tries to stop him.
* Adama drinks from a glass anyway as he speaks of his uncle as a kid in the summers spent there, of foxes that would attack his henhouses, of the dog hunts that chased down the foxes at night, forming into a team, forcing the fox toward the river. Half of the foxes would fight, the others would try to cross the river. But some of them would turn with the current, swimming away into the sea. "Because they wanted to drown," Tigh adds. "Maybe. Or maybe they were just...tired."

* Tigh, uncharacteristically, becomes the sober one giving the other a dressing-down, telling Adama that he can't be like the foxes lost to the sea, reminding him that he is the commander and Tigh is still the XO of the ship, that killing himself would not help himself, or the ship.

* On ''Colonial One'', Lee Adama slowly wipes away a numeral "1" from the [[Survivor count|census]] board as Kara Thrace arrives. Kara had officially reported that she lost the signal, but needs to confide in him about something. Before she does, Lee tells her the news about Dualla. Both can only wonder why Dualla did what she did. Kara presumably decided not to tell Lee about her discovery.

* Adama passes by more passive crewman and some graffiti: "Frak Earth", sprayed on the wall as he heads to [[CIC]]. Ordering Lt. [[Hoshi]] to Dualla's old communications station, he orders Gaeta to find any nearby stars compatible with habitable planets, and for Hoshi to invite the rebel Cylons to their next destination. Adama addresses the Fleet, telling them that, while Earth is no longer a choice, he will find them a new home. "This is a promise I intend to keep."

* Saul Tigh, wearing rank insignia for the first time since being granted amnesty by then-Acting President Lee Adama, greets [[Number Three (Downloaded copy)|Downloaded Three]] as others evacuate back to the Fleet. She doesn't want to leave, deciding to stay behind, believing that the cycle of life will keep going on as dreadfully as before. "...and it beats the hell out of being out there with [[Cavil]]. Gonna die in the cold and the dark when Cavil catches up with us." Tigh tries to give encouragement, but Three asks if he ever wanted to just give up, reminding him of Adama's story of the penned-in foxes.

* Tigh later appears to be walking into the sea. Chest-deep in water and continuing down, he has a vision...of destruction in a building, a wall of apartment mailboxes behind him; he is wearing a civilian business suit. He hears Ellen, finds her trapped under debris he cannot move. As his real body pulls a post box hatch out of the water, Tigh tries to clear the rubble around Ellen. She tells him, as more bombs go off, flashing bright, "Saul, it's okay. Everything's in place. We'll be reborn...again. Together."

Lieutenant '''Louis Hoshi''' is the [[communications officer]] on the [[Mercury class battlestar|battlestar]] ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', and later becomes the communications officer on ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' in a similar role as Lieutenant [[Anastasia Dualla]]. During his time aboard ''Pegasus'', he at times carries out duties usually done by the [[tactical officer]].

During the opening salvos of the Cylon attack on the [[Scorpion Fleet Shipyards]], Hoshi is showing Lieutenant [[Kendra Shaw]] to her quarters and explaining the basics of the ship's computer network to her before he is knocked unconscious when ''Pegasus'' is hit. He is later seen back on duty in the CIC when Cain announces the colonies' destruction to the crew. He is also there when Shaw orders the security camera feed pulled up, revealing a dead [[Number Six]] and unmasking [[Gina Inviere]] as a Cylon agent ([[Razor]]).

Hoshi handles the [[wireless]] traffic between ''Pegasus'' and her Vipers during the [[Standoff Between Galactica and Pegasus|stand-off between the two battlestars]] ([[Pegasus (episode)|Pegasus]]), and between ''Pegasus'' and the strike team during the [[Battle of the Guardian Basestar|attack on the Guardian basestar]], where he also reports the damage control status. He also mans nuclear the launch key station when Commander [[Lee Adama]] prepares a nuclear strike on the basestar (Razor).

With the settlement of [[New Caprica]], Hoshi remains on ''Pegasus'' and is serving in the CIC when the Cylons arrive and force the remaining [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] to abandon the colony ([[Occupation]]). After the destruction of ''Pegasus'', Hoshi is assigned to ''Galactica'''s CIC ([[The Passage]]).

During a standoff with the Cylons above the [[algae planet]], Admiral [[William Adama]] orders Hoshi to arm missile tubes 4 through 10, threatening to destroy the [[Temple of Five]] ([[The Eye of Jupiter]]) with nuclear warheads.

Hoshi takes over Lieutenant [[Felix Gaeta]]'s duties when Gaeta joins Captain [[Kara Thrace]]'s search for [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]] aboard the ''[[Demetrius]]''. === On ''Galactica'' ===

* With [[Lee Adama]] [[Wikipedia:AWOL|AWOL]], [[William Adama|Adama]] and [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]] are going over possible new [[CAG]]s. As Tigh reluctantly points out, none of them match the skills of Adama's son.
* Unbeknownst to Tigh, Adama has already made his choice: Lieutenant [[George Birch]], now promoted to Captain. Adama had only called in Tigh, hoping that he and his XO were "on the same page". During the whole discussion, he is crushing walnuts in his hands. During his speech to Birch, he states that everyone on ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' is family, including his sons.
* Meanwhile, Adama has another problem: the [[Fleet News Service|press]]. He attempts to communicate to them about the segmentation in the Fleet. The attempt backfires, with questions from the press remaining unanswered.
* In the compartment over, [[Gaius Baltar]] is looking into the corridor from the hatch's threshold. Now having the knowledge that there are eight [[Cylon agent]]s in the Fleet, he is becoming increasingly paranoid. Six attempts to soothe him, claiming that he does not share the other humans' fate. She also goes on to say that humans are masters of self-destruction.
* As the new CAG, Birch is enthusiastic and attempts to grow into his new role. One of his new duties is to lead combat exercises. In an asteroid field, [[Brendan Costanza|Hot Dog]] and [[Louanne Katraine|Kat]] are practicing attack runs on an asteroid.
** Hot Dog fires a missile at the primary target, only to wing it (and earn a scolding from Birch, who states that he knows Hot Dog can do better).
** A communications glitch during the target exercise causes both Hot Dog and Kat to think they are each cleared for their attack runs. Birch fails to resolve the confusion, and a tragedy almost occurs: Hot Dog releases another missile while Kat begins strafing the primary asteroid target. The missile causes the asteroid to splinter, the debris from it almost killing Kat. While her Viper is winged, Kat manages to make it out alive using some remarkable piloting skill.
* Another incident occurs, when two vessels (a fuel tanker and a civilian ship) are attempting a straight-forward refuel op. Birch has been supervising the op, which has been running for four hours. Tigh firmly notes that while Birch is Adama's man, he is green and inexperienced.
** Adama orders the op be aborted, but not in time to prevent the ships from colliding. Fortunately, the resultant damage is non-critical.
* Adama confides to [[Anastasia Dualla|Dee]] in his cabin about the shooting, his son and Roslin. Dee speaks her mind, saying that everyone is separated; parents and children, friends. After the emotional discussion, Adama attempts to dismiss her. She refuses, saying that it is time to heal the wounds.
* As Adama walks through ''Galactica's'' empty corridors, he reflects. After, he returns to [[CIC]], where he orders for fresh intelligence data on [[Kobol (RDM)|Kobol]] be brought to his office. "It's time to put the Fleet back together," he states, matter-of-factly.

* Members of the [[Quorum of Twelve]], [[Laura Roslin]], and [[Lee Adama]] argue over what their next move should be. Roslin attempts to persuade everyone to await [[Kara Thrace|Kara "Starbuck" Thrace]]'s return with the [[Arrow of Apollo]]. Roslin is steadfast in her belief that the Arrow will open the [[Tomb of Athena]], which holds the way to [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]].
* An unidentified ship, carrying no transponder and too large to be a [[Cylon Raider (RDM)|Raider]] approaches [[Laura Roslin faction|Roslin's fleet]]. Meier prepares to have a nearby ship with missile batteries, the ''[[Adriatic]]'', attack the unidentified ship. He alerts [[Zarek]], but not Apollo or Roslin. Overhearing, the President is annoyed at the insubordination and asserts her authority; Meier argues that the unidentified vessel should be destroyed before leaving the weapons range of the nearby ship.
* Before Roslin makes a decision, Starbuck's voice is heard over the wireless hailing them from the unidentified ship. Starbuck's appropriated [[Heavy Raider]] is permitted to dock.
* Apollo reunites with Starbuck, impulsively kissing her, to her surprise. Apollo is shocked to discover that Starbuck and Helo have brought [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|a second copy of Sharon Valerii]] back with them. He goes berserk, grabbing Valerii and shoving his pistol in her face. [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] approaches from behind, placing a gun against Apollo's head.
* Roslin defuses the situation, with both men putting down their weapons. She then turns about and orders Valerii placed out of the airlock. Valerii is dragged off, but claims to know how to find the Tomb of Athena. Roslin spares her life, if only temporarily.
* Apollo spends some time talking to Starbuck, trying to convince her to open up to him and assuring her he will be there for her. During this discussion he lets it slip that he loves her. Although he later insists he didn't say it, Starbuck teases him, playfully saying that there are "no takebacks" to what he said.
* Roslin tells her advisors she accepts that Valerii really does believe herself to be in love with Helo, and consequently Roslin has threatened that he will be put out an airlock if Sharon doesn't genuinely lead the way to the tomb.
* Zarek and Meier privately discuss Zarek's chance to command the new fleet to freedom. Meier realizes they need Roslin, but feel that Captain Adama is a problem to their power base. Meier twists a point of scripture said earlier by [[Elosha]] to their benefit: according to the scriptures, any return on Kobol will be purchased in blood. Meier insinuates that Lee Adama should be the one to pay the so-called price.

* A contingent, including Meier, Zarek, Valerii, Agathon, Thrace, Elosha, Roslin and Lee Adama, land on Kobol. Elosha (reading from the scriptures) and Valerii (reciting scripture from memory) state that the path to the Tomb of Athena is along a stone ridge.

Elosha steps on a trigger which releases two "[[Wikipedia:Bouncing_betty|Bouncing Betty]]"-type antipersonnel mines; the shrapnel from the exploding mines strikes her and alerts nearby [[Cylon Centurion]]s to their presence. Entrenched in a high position, the trio of Centurions attempts to wipe out the party. Helo takes out one, Thrace and Lee Adama take out another, and Valerii runs off, only to use a grenade launcher to take out the remaining Centurion. Valerii's angle of attack appears to point at Lee Adama, who chases her down as she retrieved the weapon. She drops the weapon at Adama's feet after the Centurion is destroyed, offering no resistance.
* Elosha is found dead and Roslin tearfully retrieves the blood-covered book of scriptures from her.

== Notes ==
*This episode apparently begins immediately after the events of "[[The Farm]]".
*Population count is 47,858, a gain of one since "The Farm", probably to account for the return of Helo. This means that Starbuck was never written off as "presumed dead", and if Sharon Valerii was ever included in the count before her outing as a Cylon, her copy isn't being added back after her defection.
**With the death of Elosha and an unnamed escort on Kobol, the count at the episode end is now 47,856.

*Roslin's fleet may hold onto the Heavy Raider that Starbuck, Helo, and Sharon returned in. If they do that makes for possibly the third captured Cylon spacecraft, after Starbuck's captured Raider in "[[You Can't Go Home Again]]" and the Heavy Raider that crashed into ''Galactica's'' starboard pod in "[[Scattered]]". (This is confirmed in "[[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I]]": the FTL drive in this ship is adapted for use in a [[Raptor]] for the [[SAR]] to retrieve the [[Caprica Resistance]].)

== Analysis ==
*According to Caprica-Valerii, she is not in constant, involuntary contact with whatever network the Cylons have access to. She claims: "I'm not wired in. It doesn't work like that." This, and data from past episodes, suggest that the humanoid Cylons share a collective knowledgebase that they can occasionally tap into, but as confirmed in "[[Downloaded]]", do not share a collective ''consciousness'' (like the Borg of ''Star Trek'' fame).
*The [[Arrow of Apollo]] looks rather ornate for a functional arrow. It may instead have once served as a symbol of religious or temporal authority, not unlike the [[Wikipedia:Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom|British Crown Jewels]]. (Its function, [[Home, Part II|as it turns out]] is not a key to the tomb, ''per se''.)
*Analysis of what may be inferred about the demographics of the Fleet from Dualla's breakdown of the population of the breakaway ships can be found [[The Fleet (RDM)#Demographics|here]].
*A frequent question about "[[Resistance (episode)|Resistance]]" was why Baltar didn't ask Boomer the ''names'' of the eight Cylons left in the Fleet, and it was suspected of being a plot hole. In this episode, Baltar is shown regretting not asking her the identity of the other eight Cylons. Perhaps he only had enough time to ask her one question and still save Chief Tyrol's life, and he was planning on asking her more if "that idiot hadn't killed her."
*Birch is flying a [[Viper Mark VII]] in this episode, which was Apollo's preference prior to the damage he sustained during an atmospheric [[SAR]] in "[[You Can't Go Home Again]]". He, and his entire squadron, used [[Viper Mark II]]s in the [[Battle for the Tylium Asteroid]] (21 days later), although at least six Mark VIIs were deployed in "[[Scattered]]" (36 days later). Perhaps it just took the better part of three weeks to rehabilitate the Mark VIIs.
*Another hard to explain name appears in this episode. The name of the ship ''[[Adriatic]]'', obviously derived from the [[w:Adriatic Sea|Adriatic Sea]], is an arm of the [[w:Mediterranean Sea|Mediterranean Sea]] that separates Italy from the Balkan peninsula on [[Earth (RDM)|Earth]].
*Tigh suggest [[Perry (pilot)|Perry]] as a choice for new CAG. However, he ([[Donald Perry|Donald "Chuckles" Perry]]) was killed in the [[Battle for the Tylium Asteroid]] in "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]", and was a [[nugget]] besides. Therefore, he probably refers to another pilot with the same name.

* As Lieutenant Valerii demonstrates, the Cylons have excellent knowledge of the Colonials' scriptures, sufficient to anticipate mining the path alongside the gravestones, for example. What other nasty surprises are in store for the party on Kobol? Will the Tomb of Athena which they expect to find even be the "real" tomb? ([[Home, Part II|Answer]])
* Agathon is seemingly aghast at the treatment of this second Sharon Valerii upon boarding the ''Astral Queen''. What did [[Karl Agathon]] expect would happen when a Cylon, a race that killed billions of humans, falls into the hands of the survivors?
