== Overview ==
:''[[Helo]] investigates the claims of Sagittarons that a doctor is discriminating against them by providing substandard medical care.

== Summary ==
===Teaser===
*Helo, in his quarters with his sleeping [[Sharon Agathon|wife]] and [[Hera Agathon|daughter]], is fitful and cannot sleep. He tries to get some work done but falls asleep later in the morning.
*The population of [[Camp Oil Slick|Dogsville]] on ''[[Galactica]]'' is increasing by 300. Helo is tasked to managing the needs of the populace camped there while other pilots continue their usual flight duties.
*Many civilians call to Helo, asking him to keep them physically separated from the Sagittarons.
*Dualla is also on the floor, trying to defuse a problem with Mrs. [[King]] and her son, [[Willie King]], as a civilian physician, [[Michael Robert]], tries to examine anyone he can see.
*Dr. Robert sees a frightening pattern of people coughing and tells [[Saul Tigh]], an old friend of his who just arrived on the floor, to leave the area.
*Helo sees the pattern of sickness as well when King's son collapses to the floor.

===Act 1===
*[[William Adama|Admiral Adama]] meets with Helo, Dr. Robert, Colonel Tigh and Dr. [[Cottle]] to discuss the sickness.
*The cause, [[Mellorak infection]], is transmitted by any exchange of bodily fluids, sexual intercourse, and touch through sweat on the skin. It is is curable with the drug, [[bittamucin]]. While a dangerous disease that is fatal in its advanced stages after 48 hours, the disease is curable if caught early. First sign of symptoms usually arise after the initial 12 hours of infection.
*The complication involves the Sagittarons, who believe that physicians and medications from them are an abomination to the [[Religion in the Twelve Colonies#The Lords of Kobol|Gods]] and will not likely accept any medication. They have practiced their shunning of conventional medical care for over 1,000 years.
*The stocks are low in any case, and Adama orders immediate inoculations of key crew and medication used only when someone shows definitive signs of the disease.
*Helo watches as some of Sagittarons use a curative root extract in an attempt to stave off the illness.
*On ''[[Colonial One]]'', President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] explains how [[Gaius Baltar]]'s trial will go with her vice president, [[Tom Zarek]].
*Zarek warns, visibly agitated, that a trial like this would be a "hurricane" that would cause pandemonium in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. Roslin is left visibly worried as she realizes that Zarek was genuinely frightened of the possibility of trial.
*Helo continues to take complaints, many from other Colonials who want to be moved away from the Sagittarons. King arrives to not only tell Helo of her son's death, but that she made a mistake in trusting Dr. Robert. Helo believes that she waited too long, but she notes that her son was only sick for 12 hours, well within the 48 hour cure window, making Helo suspicious.

===Act 2===
*Dr. Robert tells of other deaths as Helo questions him about the King son's death. Robert deflects comments while giving Helo his inoculation, and notes commenting favorably to him to Col. Tigh.
*[[Margaret Edmondson]], [[Galen Tyrol]], [[Felix Gaeta]], [[Lee Adama]], [[Anastasia Dualla]], [[Kara Thrace]] and many others are at [[Joe's bar]] taking a break. Some are playing the [[Pyramid (RDM)|Pyramid]] arcade game. When [[Connor]] calls Edmondson by the name of "Marge," the [[Raptor]] pilot tells him that her shot accuracy is improved when she imagines the pyramid target as his face when throwing.
*Tyrol becomes drunk and begins to tell how the Sagittarons did not help fight on [[New Caprica]]. He personally believes that those colonists do not deserve any of the medication. Major Adama orders him to stop commenting once it becomes clear that Dualla, a Sagittaron herself, was becoming uncomfortable.
*Dualla agrees with some of Tyrol's drunken commentary in regards to her fellow colonists' stubborness, but notes her specific dislike of Dr. [[Cottle]].
*Sharon Agathon is visiting the incarcerated [[Caprica-Six]], discussing Baltar. Six's [[Cylon-Related Hallucinations|virtual Baltar]] appears to counter Agathon's thoughts on helping the Colonials.
*Six talks with her virtual Baltar, who tells her that the "trick" of behaving like a human is to think only of yourself.
*As Six kisses the virtual Baltar, President Roslin and [[Tory Foster]] are listening and watching Six nearby by hidden surveillance, and question who or what she is speaking to.
*A riot occurs in the camp, and Helo and the marines scramble to save Dr. Robert, who is at the center of the attack. Many Sagittarons accuse him of murder.
*Robert admits to administering the rationed drug without patient consent, particularly to one of the Sagittaron's noted fundamental members. The doctor becomes irritated at Helo's probing questions.
*Helo reports to Admiral Adama of Robert's behavior, with Cottle present. Neither man believes Helo's report is credible, and Adama dismisses him, telling him that he has more pressing matters than dealing with what he believes are unfounded accusations.
*Tigh catches up with Helo and tells him that accusing Robert is doing little to help Helo's overall credibility with the Fleet command. When Tigh insults Helo's wife, the captain punches him.
*Tigh takes the blow without arresting Helo, but warns that further accusations will further diminish his reputation in the Fleet.

===Act 3===
*Sharon Agathon tells her husband that their daughter is sick, having been pulled off [[Combat Air Patrol|CAP]] to help her child.
*Despite Helo's worries about Robert, Hera is given the drug and sedatives.
*Helo returns a bracelet from Willie King's body to Mrs. King. Before she leaves, he asks why she let her son be treated if she was previously warned. She explained that she did so because she didn't believe that anyone could have so much hatred inside them as to kill a patient. She leaves, refusing to discuss further.
*In their quarters, the Agathons argue, Helo questions whether he is getting damning treatment for being the husband of a [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]], and his other actions.
*Helo visits [[sickbay]], but finds it empty. He searches the medical records of patients from New Caprica and finds a shocking correlation.
*Cottle enters and tries to order Helo out of the office, threatening arrest. He shows that, unlike other colonists, the mortality rate of Sagittarons is over 90%. When asked to perform an autopsy on Willie King, Cottle tells Helo he's already done so, and Helo leaves, defeated and angry.
*Dualla, with her dislike of Cottle on record, visits Dr. Robert, asking for Bittamucin. She shows the first signs of Mellorak infection.
*On the night phase on the ship, King sneaks away from the refugee camp to Helo's quarters to warn him that Dualla had sought Dr. Robert's help after she began to show symptoms, also noting two other Sagittaron deaths. Helo realizes that, if his instincts are right, Dualla is in serious trouble. Marines appear to escort King away as Help quickly dresses and heads to the camp, against his wife's warnings and anger about having to fight for respect every day aboard ''Galactica''.
*Out of uniform and yelling for people to move out of the way, Helo storms through the encampment, frantically searching for and finding Dualla, lying a cot, motionless and unconscious, and desperately checks her vital signs.

===Act 4===
*Helo couldn't find immediate life signs and fears he's too late until Dualla stirs. She is alive, but very lethargic from medication that Robert administered.
*Helo attempts to move her to help from Dr. Cottle when Dr. Robert appears and stops him from leaving, calling for security to assist him. Dualla, in her delirium, shouts not to be treated by Cottle. Marines hear only part of the conversation and order Helo to stand down.
*A security detail separates Dualla from Helo, and sidearms are pulled as Robert orders the marines to arrest Helo.
*Colonel Tigh and Dr. Cottle arrives with additional marines, but instead of taking sides with Robert, Tigh berates Robert.
*Cottle explains to Helo that he didn't actually perform the toxicology test on King's son before finding Helo in his office. The autopsy revealed high levels of a toxic bisphosphnate, but no traces of the drug used to treat the disease. Cottle notes similar results in several other patients.
*Robert explains that his actions were a form of mercy-killing to save precious resources. Cottle questions his "do no harm" oath as Robert reminds Tigh of a time where they spoke in a derogative manner about Sagittarons.
*Tigh orders Helo to arrest Robert.
*Later, Admiral Adama apologizes to Helo for his actions in trying to show Robert's actions as well as other morally questionable issues in recent days. Helo returns Adama's apology with a perfect salute, finally feeling vindicated and respected.
*Agathon returns to his family, his daughter in her arms, and gives his wife a kiss.

===Bonus Scene===

*A bonus scene shows Helo in Adama's office, apparently at the time of Adama's apology. In this cut scene, Helo confesses to the sabotage of [[A Measure of Salvation|an aborted Cylon offensive]] to destroy the Cylons through biological weaponry. Adama asks Helo if he thinks this was the right time to bring this matter to his attention.
*This scene meshes with Adama's comment about the lack of a "voice in the wilderness" when Helo has questioned Fleet decisions on the Cylon genocide issue, the Sagittarons, and his unborn daughter's own fate [[Epiphanies|''in utero'' months before]].

== Questions ==

* What is the current status of the Fleet's medical supplies? Was the stockpile of vaccines and medicines that ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' had before its destruction ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II]]) transferred over to the civilian ships before the [[Battle of New Caprica]]?

* Does Roslin suspect Caprica-Six of communicating with the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]] due to her hallucinations of Baltar?

* How many other civilian medical doctors are there in the Fleet?

* Why did [[Hera Agathon|Hera]] need the medication for a curable disease, while her blood was used to cure breast cancer for President Roslin?

* When did the hatred and bitterness towards the [[Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Sagittaron|Sagittarons]] begin in Colonial history?

* How different are the Sagittarons and [[Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Gemenon|Gemenese]] in regard to their religious beliefs? What traditions and ceremonies do the Sagittarons still practice that the rest of the Colonies have abandoned?

* As [[Sharon Agathon|Athena]] was away at CAP and Helo wasn't informed of Hera's well-being, who then submitted Hera to Dr. Robert's care?

* What is the condition of Starbuck's and Anders's marriage? Why is he not seen with Starbuck in Joe's bar? Is he still living away from Galactica?

* Where is Tom Zarek in this matter? Is he unaware of the plight of the Sagittarons on ''Galactica'' or under Doctor Robert's care?

* Dr. Cottle asks Dr. Robert, "What the hell happened to 'do no harm, doctor?'". The [[w:Hippocratic Oath|Hippocratic Oath]], written by the ancient Greek physician [[w:Hippocrates|Hippocrates]], prescribes that a physician "never do harm to anyone." Might this tie in with other references to Greek civilization/mythology in the series?

== Analysis ==
* This is the first major episode that features Saggitarons in a more in-depth manner. We learn more about Tom Zarek and Anastasia Dualla's relation to their colony of origin, originally established in "[[Bastille Day]]".

* The Sagittarons' belief system appears to be modeled on various modern day religious sects that oppose the use of medical technology and/or are pacifist in their political views. Religious sects, such as the Jehovah Witnesses and Christian Scientists in the past have taken such views and had been highly criticized and persecuted.

* Mrs. King name might be derived from Martin Luther King Jr. as Mrs. King is portrayed as an individual who wants justice for the prejudice that she and her son received. It is her initial step of approaching Helo that causes the murders of her people to eventually cease.

* Though shown briefly, when the pilots (Apollo, Starbuck, and [[Racetrack]]) are walking past Helo in the corridor, it should be noted that Racetrack momentarily flirts with Helo when she holds onto his arm with Athena present. This hails back to an [http://podcasts.lvrocks.com/details.aspx?castid=5 interview] with Leah Cairns who stated that she and Tahmoh Penikett play their scenes together as though there is a sexual attraction between the two characters, while Athena remains unaware.

* Similar to Baltar's internal-Six, Caprica-Six's internal Baltar appears at a moment of self-doubt and fear. Interestingly, this version of internal-Baltar seems opposed to Caprica-Six siding with the humans, while back in "[[Downloaded]]", he told her that he loved her so deeply once she made the decision to reach out to humanity.

* The Saggitarons appear to be the last human colony that still maintains most of its original roots from the founding of the colonies. According to Dr. Cottle, medical treatment has been rejected by the Saggitarons for over 3000 years because they consider medicine to be a curse. The result being that they still practice rituals and beliefs that are at least over 1000 years old. This may be the date when the other colonies began to let go of their old religious convictions and origins.

* Adama displays one of his character traits when he apologizes to Helo for not believing him about Dr. Robert. This is reminiscent of the moment when Adama offered Roslin his forgiveness when she took a part of the Fleet in search of the Arrow of Apollo ([[Home, Part II]]). Instead of forgiveness, Adama offers Helo his apology and states, as he did with Roslin, that it doesn't matter whether Helo asked or needs it, Helo still has it.

* In the real world, Robert's poisons, known as bisphosphantes, are a family of drugs used to treat certain bone cancers and [[w:osteoporosis|osteoporosis]] in some women. The use of the drug by real world definition correlates with Cottle's notation of acute cellular disruption, which could happen with such drugs.

* This is the first time since "[[Collaborators]]" that Gaeta is seen in a relaxed setting. The episode indicates that he has finally been welcomed back amongst the crew and able to join them in their Pyramid game. In addition, it appears that his [[Taking a Break From All Your Worries|actions towards Baltar]] did not lead to any serious repercussions.

== Notes ==
* The title doesn't literally refer to a king, but to a female character named [[King]], and is referred to in this episode's dialogue; Colonel Tigh asks who is lodging all the complaints against Dr. Robert, Helo replies "the woman, [[King]]".

* Barring any births, the population is at 41,396 at the end of this episode. There is a loss of five people, all Sagittaron: [[Willie King]], Mr. [[Buckminster]], a three-year old, and two more prior to Agathon's final argument with Robert.

* [[Bruce Davison]]'s character [[Michael Robert|Dr. Robert]] may be a reference to a song by [[w:The Beatles|The Beatles]] entitled "[[w:Dr. Robert|Dr. Robert]]". The song is about a doctor who prescribes illicit drugs. The [[A Day in the Life|next episode]] also contains a Beatles reference in its title.

*Dualla is noted as a Sagittaron. This was previously established in "[[33]]" and "[[Bastille Day]]".

*Tom Zarek was granted the Vice Presidency, despite his actions in "[[Collaborators]]".

*[[Racetrack]]'s given name, established in "[[Final Cut]]", is used in dialogue for the first time. [[Charlie Connor|Connor]] calls her "Marge", which seems to irritate her.

*Racetrack banters with Helo about her desire to have sexual relations with a [[nugget]]. This indicates that the military is still recruiting and training new pilots.

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

* ''[[Tom Zarek]] offers his view on the results of [[Gaius Baltar]]'s forthcoming trial:''

: '''Zarek:''' Listen to me, Baltar will get his trial, and this is what you'll get: a hurricane. The media will descend upon you and watch, and scrutinze, and question your every move. You will have sectarian violence, you will have assassination attempts, you will have civil unrest on a scale we've never seen. Work, labor, everyday routine in this fleet will come to a complete halt. This trial is going to bring down this entire fleet down.
: '''[[Tory Foster]]:''' Mr. Vice President, we have a security plan in order, which includes rapid [[Colonial Marine|marine]] deployment, increased [[CAP]] operations, security details–
: '''Zarek:''' (ignoring Foster) A hurricane, [[Laura Roslin|Laura]]. If I were you, I'd declare martial law during the trial. You're going to need a lot more than a little patience to survive. I'm here if you need me.

* ''[[Caprica-Six]]'s internal Baltar gives her some advice:''
: '''Internal Baltar:''' But there's a trick to being human, you have to think only about yourself.

* ''[[Michael Robert]] attempts to explain himself, after he is found out:''
: '''Robert:''' (to Agathon) You ought to be on your knees, thanking me for ''saving'' your [[Hera Agathon|daughter's life]], for having the meds to cure her of her illness. (to [[Cottle]]) Now you know how painful this disease is at the end. And they don't want our help. Now why waste time, and meds, and space on them when all of those resources could go to those who really deserve it? Who gets the medication when there's not enough to go around? The Sagittaron who won't even raise a finger to save his own race, or a [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] pilot?!
: '''Cottle:''' What the hell happened to "do no harm", Doctor?
: '''Robert:''' Look, I intervened because someone has to make the tough choices. But it doesn't matter, it doesn't matter because–look at 'em–they're going to destroy themselves anyway. Look at them out there. They're like worms crawling on a hot rock. Remember what you used to say, [[Saul Tigh|Saul]]? "Aside from a [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]], is there anything that you hate more than a Sagittaron?"
: '''Tigh:''' I'll tell you what I hate, Mike. Being wrong. Captain Agathon?
: '''Agathon:''' Sir?
: '''Tigh:''' Arrest this son of a bitch. Gag him if you have to.
: '''Agathon:''' My pleasure sir.

== Official Statements ==

Information from the podast:
* The Sagittaron-focused storyline, was originally intended to play a larger role in the upcoming Baltar trial. However, in post-production, it was decided that the trial needed to go into an entirely different direction, thus cutting out most of the Sagittaron build up in other episodes.
* Tom Zarek's fear that is noted by Roslin was originally based on Zarek's fear that like Gaeta, Baltar would attempt to implicate him in an incident with the Sagittarons on New Caprica. There is a deleted scene in which Zarek talks with Baltar and tries to figure out what Baltar plans to say about the event.
* RDM acknowledged that the explicit racism expressed by Tigh and Tyrol appeared very forced as it was never alluded to before. It was necessary at the time because of the original role that the Sagittarons were supposed to play in Baltar's trial. However, once the decision was made to not focus on an event that the audience has not seen firsthand, the scenes now stand alone.
* The broader theme of the episode was suppose to portray Helo as a man who desired to prove his worth again to the leadership. The guilt and struggle he felt of [[A Measure of Salvation|sabotaging the biological weapon]] is the main factor that causes him to appear as the boy who cries "wolf" to Adama and Tigh. The deleted scene from the episode ran along those lines and explicitly displays Helo's guilt for having disobeyed his orders.
* The re-introduction of Caprica-Six' internal Baltar was an explicit order from RDM to the writing staff after their initial reluctance. This accomplished at least two purposes. First, it established that Caprica-Six was never freed from these visions of her internal Baltar, and that she still has to deal with her visions. Secondly, in the grander theme of the show, the internal Baltar and Six will play major roles in the unfolding of the series.
== Overview ==
:''Admiral Adama re-institutes a military tradition onboard Colonial warships, in which crewmembers disregard rank and fight each other in a boxing ring to relieve tensions aboard ship—tensions which have existed since ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' discovered [[New Caprica]].''

== Summary ==

*The episode begins on ''[[Galactica]]'' in a boxing ring, where [[Helo]] and [[Lee Adama]] are exchanging blows. Helo has the advantage, but comments that the major is giving him a rough fight.
*Several flashbacks occur where we see [[Lee Adama]] waking up on a planetary surface, bare chested; he sits up slightly, looking around with a confused look on his face.
*[[Kara Thrace]] and [[Samuel Anders]] finish making love, but when Anders broaches the subject of repairing their marriage, she rebuffs him and leaves her officer's [[duty locker]], throwing the "in use" boots back inside the locker's door.
*Thrace is seen in a flashback, lying outside, her head on a man's bare chest, suddenly startled and frightened.
*[[Lee Adama]] is losing his fight as he is distracted by memories of seventeen months ago, or eight months prior to New Caprica's [[Cylon Occupation Authority|occupation]]. Eventually, Dr. [[Cottle]], who has been enjoying the fight while monitoring the damage of each boxer, removes Adama from the fight, leaving Helo with the win as [[Saul Tigh]], acting as the referee, calls the match.
*Flashbacks show Lee Adama boarding a [[Raptor]] and passionately kissing [[Anastasia Dualla]].
*Admiral [[William Adama|Adama]] arrives to watch the match, as does Thrace, from separate sides of the ring. Thrace comments that a couple of months ago you would have had to roll Apollo into the ring.
*[[Laura Roslin]] greets Admiral Adama and happily tells him of her father's joy of [[w:Boxing|boxing]], which she has inherited.
*Another flashback occurs, with [[Admiral Adama]] sitting on [[New Caprica]], his uniform tunic open. He is relaxed and enjoying the moment. Roslin appears and sits by him. Adama compliments her on the color of her dress, while obviously observing her figure as well. She smiles and notices his relaxation, with the sand between his toes. While he corrects her that the soil was "alluvial deposits" from a former river mouth, not sand, Roslin corrects herself but not without another joke about Adama letting his guard down in the beauty of the moment. She says it is good to see him, and he returns the compliment as she squeezes his arm.
*Roslin and Adama, in the present, appear to show the same look of a close friendship while the boxing transitions to [[Hot Dog]], who unwisely challenges Thrace to a match. Hot Dog initially lands a few blows before Thrace KO's the cocky pilot.
*Several flashbacks occur where Thrace, Lee Adama, and Dualla are seen at a dance.
*Another flashback shows Saul Tigh enjoying time with his wife, [[Ellen Tigh]].
*Another flashback with Roslin and Adama, who are drinking alcohol, [[New Caprican loco weed|smoking a psychoactive native plant]], and relaxing together. Their conversation continues.
*Adama recalls when [[Galen Tyrol|Chief Tyrol]] requests that he and [[Cally Tyrol|his wife]] muster out of the [[Colonial Fleet (RDM)|ship's fleet]] to have their [[Nicholas Tyrol|child]] on New Caprica. Adama flatly denies the request, citing Tyrol's obligation to the fleet.
*A later flashback shows Tyrol attempting to convince his wife that staying on ''Galactica'' would not be so bad, while the scene changes to Adama and Roslin on the planet, as she discusses how important it was for many people to get on with a regular life.
*Adama changes his mind and accepts Tyrol's request to muster from the service, but appears hurt behind the smile he presents.
*Admiral Adama hands his glasses to Roslin and tosses his tags into the box. He challenges Tyrol to a match: "Chief, get your fat, lazy ass up here."
*Flashing back, Adama and Roslin lie together outside, watching the night sky. Later, she snuggles closer to his shoulder, her hand on his chest. Both are quite comfortable, and Adama notes briefly how comfortable he was with Roslin so physically close and with the stars overhead.
*Roslin questions whether if this will all last -- the colony, and their respite from the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons']] chase. She happily resigns herself to the fact that, no matter what the future holds, the present is good to have.
*Admiral Adama's boxing match gets ugly when Adama cold-cocks Tyrol (who has his back turned) as soon as the horn sounds to start the match. Adama appears very edgy.
*The match continues, but Tyrol's anger and youth begins to edge over Adama's experience. During the round's break, Roslin enters the ring, trying to get Adama to quit, but when he refuses, gives him no-nonsense boxing advice. Adama states that he can't win this fight, but doesn't necessarily imply that trying to win is his objective.
*Another flashback, with Thrace and Lee Adama, who are both drunk. Dualla is aboard ship, and Thrace has literally drank Anders, now unconscious, under a nearby table. The two former [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] pilots exchange intimate words and soon find themselves outside of camp, getting very intimate.
*Lee Adama and Kara Thrace have a gratifying sexual session. Afterwards, Adama suggests that they each break up with their respective lovers to become a couple themselves. Adama gets up and happily yells into the nighttime sky that he loves Thrace. Adama urges the giggling and embarrassed Thrace to return the gesture into the sky and that he will continue to yell until she does. In less than full volume, Thrace finally somewhat hesistently yells that "Kara Thrace loves Lee Adama." They then return to lovemaking.
*Thrace awakens, confused, and leaves the area, leaving Adama to awaken some time later, alone.
*Lee Adama returns to camp, where his father tells him that Thrace had found a [[Religion in the Twelve Colonies#The Clergy|priest]] and had married Anders earlier that morning. The young Adama is visibly shaken.
*Lee Adama encounters Thrace and Anders. Adama is still visibly upset but hides it long enough to shake hands with Anders in congratulation and to wish him luck, saying "You're going to need it."
*Recalling the reason for Lee Adama's passion, viewers see Adama and Dualla kissing on the Raptor once more.
*In the present in the boxing ring, Admiral Adama is overcome by Tyrol's fight and is knocked to the mat. Everyone watching is silent in concern, and Tyrol helps the admiral up. With blood streaming down both cheeks, Adama speaks to the crowd, saying that over the last year he had let his crew, his family, become too close, relaxing their mandate and responisibility to the safety of the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]]. He notes that his weakness led to the loss of lives. Adama wearily informs the crowd that such lax operations will now cease, and leaves the ring, escorted by Dr. Cottle, Roslin, and her entourage.
*The enthusiasm for boxing has been extinguished by Adama's speech, and Tigh calls it off and dismisses the group. Regardless, Thrace challenges Lee Adama to a match by name-calling and an exchange of blows.
*In the ring, with no referee, Major Adama initially takes it easy, but a few well placed blows from Thrace dispatch Adama's reticence. The two begin to bludgeon each other, Thrace adding a kickboxing element to kick Adama and keep him off-balance.
*Anders shows up at the boxing ring to see his wife, Thrace, fighting Adama. As soon as he arrives he asks Dualla, who looks very upset, "What are they doing?" Dualla answers with "What does it look like they're doing?" Anders comments, "It looks like they're trying to kill each other."
*The match soon degenerates into something that the crowd does not enjoy, and many begin to leave. Anders and Dualla stand together, watching the match with no small amount of disappointment, aware of the dark mood between Adama and Thrace, and its history. Anders tells Dualla "I'm outta here," and leaves.
*Too tired and beaten to fully continue fighting, Thrace and Adama fall together in a boxer's hug. Thrace whispers into Adama's ear, "I missed you," and Adama returns the message in kind.

== Questions ==

* What will occur now that Kara Thrace and Lee Adama have begun to mend fences? ([[The Eye of Jupiter|Answer]])
* What will be the fallout, if any, in Thrace's and Adama's current marriages? ([[The Eye of Jupiter|Answer]])
* Now that Adama admits to letting the crew get too close to him, will he be harder and stricter on his crew? ([[The Passage|Answer 1]], [[The Eye of Jupiter|2]])
* Did Adama and Roslin have a more intimate encounter than was shown?

== Analysis ==
*This episode confirms what caused the rift between Kara Thrace and Lee Adama. Thrace avoids the notion of feeling too close with Adama by marrying Anders, and Adama returns to Dualla and soon takes to overeating.
**From Thrace's remarks about how Lee Adama doesn't know "when to make his move and when to pull back", it's also possible that she does not feel the same way towards him as he does towards her.
***That seems unlikely, though, considering that she is shown to be as strongly affected by the incident as he was.
*On New Caprica, Adama and Roslin are as relaxed with each other as the two leaders could be, not necessarily chasing romance, but allowing themselves a moment of mutual relaxation, physical closeness, and contemplation. This level of open affection may have seemed more permissible due to Roslin's status as a private citizen during the Baltar administration, although the two appear to remain good friends even in the present.
*Adama made a similar declaration about tightening military discipline when ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'' arrived, and immediately thereafter almost started a civil war in an effort to rescue Tyrol and Helo. The inability to maintain emotional detachment from his subordinates has repeatedly proven to be a strong personality trait of his, and it is questionable whether he will be able to manage detachment this time, or for very long. This trait can also be seen in the episode "[[You Can't Go Home Again]]" where he risks the whole fleet to save just one pilot - Starbuck.
**Also present in his speech was the continued conviction that the disasters that have befallen humanity can be placed on his shoulders. This sense of guilt seems likely to keep haunting him for the foreseeable future.
*This is the first episode thus far to make New Caprica look like a pleasant place to live. Every other episode on-planet has shown it to be dreary and spartan.
**It is possible that this dramatic change on-screen merely depicts a seasonal change in terms of weather patterns.
*Ships are seen flying in heavy power generation equipment of some kind, suggesting that this and many other colonization resources that were too large to retrieve during the [[Second Exodus]] were later abandoned on New Caprica, foretelling an eventual supply shortage.
*Helo's quip about Apollo "fighting like he has it in for me" may have a basis in fact. It was Apollo's plan that Helo's actions derailed, and some resentment over that would be natural.
*Kara Thrace does not feel obligated to follow rules of engagement when she starts to lose. During her fight with Lee Adama, once it becomes obvious that she stands a good chance of losing she quickly begins using armlocks and kicks to gain an advantage. Once knocked to the ground, she sweeps Adama's legs out from under him. Adama responds by using a grappling hold on Thrace, placing her into a headlock. This is reminiscent of Starbuck's expressed attitude in "[[Scar]]" that war is not bound by ideas of honor or fair play.
**It should be clarified that Thrace and Adama's fight takes place after the boxing tournament is officially closed. No referee is in the ring, and no bells are rung to signify rounds, making their bout something of an unregulated fight in any case.
*The [[Fleet]] population count has risen by one since "[[Hero]]". This is almost certainly not [[Daniel Novacek]], since his arrival in the teaser act of the previous episode is accounted for in the population count in that episode; similarly, the nearly 1,700 member crew of the ''[[Pegasus]]'' are instantly added once they are discovered. It is possible that the on-screen figures are more realistic this season, incorporating births and deaths that would naturally continue to happen anywhere but would not be depicted on-screen.

== Notes ==

*Adama and Roslin are smoking a psychoactive drug on New Caprica.<ref>{{cite_rdm_podcast|episode=Unfinished Business|act=2|id=stoned|timestamp=16:37|totalrunning=49:09}}</ref> The act of drinking and smoking simultaneously is, perhaps not coincidentally, a pastime for [[Ron D. Moore]] as he speaks during his podcasts.
*The fights shown (and the winners) are: Helo vs. Apollo (Helo), Starbuck and Hot Dog (Starbuck), Kat and an unknown woman (Kat), Tyrol and W. Adama (Tyrol) (albeit it is a strong possibility that W. Adama deliberately threw the fight), Apollo and Starbuck (draw). One other fight is shown with Sergeant [[Omar Fischer|Fischer]] fighting a member of the crew portrayed by mixed martial artist [[imdb:nm1342807|Paul Lazenby]] (Fischer).<ref>{{cite_rdm_podcast|episode=Unfinished Business|act=1|id=boxerid|timestamp=11:42|totalrunning=49:09}}</ref>
*A fight between [[Felix Gaeta]] and [[Sharon Agathon]] was discussed in the writers' room. Gaeta was going to bait Sharon into pummeling him due to guilt he still felt as a collaborator. The writers were unable to come up with anything Gaeta might use that would get a rise out of Sharon. This proposed storyline evolved into the Tyrol vs. W. Adama fight.<ref>{{cite_rdm_podcast|episode=Unfinished Business|act=1|id=gaetavsathena|timestamp=13:03|totalrunning=49:09}}</ref>

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

*''After his fight with Chief Tyrol'':
:'''Admiral Adama''': When you step on this deck, you be ready to fight, or you dishonor the reason why we're here. Now remember this; When you fight a man, he's not your friend. Same goes when you lead men. I forgot that once. I let you get too close, all of you. I dropped my guard. I gave some of you breaks, let some of you go, before the fight was really over. I let this crew and this family disband, and we paid the price in lives. That can't happen again.

== Official Statements ==

* ''[[Bodie Olmos]] discusses his most memorable moment on the series to date:''
*: '''Olmos:''' My most memorable, was probably, "Unfinished Business". The reason I liked this one so much was because, one I got to work with [[Robert Young]], who I have admired and love to watch him work, with actors. Second, this show a lot of us were on set that episode and it is just fun when we are all there. Many times, we are all kind of separated and don't really work together on the same day even. So it was just nice being with every one, and also I have never done a boxing sequence before and is something I always thought would be interesting to see how they are done. Not to mention the fact that I get knocked out by [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]], that was pretty fun!!<ref name="TSW">{{cite_web|url=http://www.thescifiworld.net/interviews/bodie_olmos_01.htm|title=The SciFi World: Bodie Olmos interview|date=20 January 2007|accessdate=18 February 2007|last=Craddock|first=Lisa|format=|language=}}</ref>

* ''Bodie Olmos reflects on his initial reaction to the scene where he is K.O.'ed by Starbuck:''
*: Oddly enough, I was a little annoyed, but then I was all "What the heck, take one for the team." She's pretty tough anyways!!<ref name="TSW"/>
This project deals with converting articles from the ''Battlestar Wiki'' into other languages and how to accomplish that task.

== Overview ==
Presently, all of the content on this wiki is in [[Wikipedia:English language|english]] — American english, to be specific. We have people who view this Wiki from other countries, as far away as Europe and Asia. And likely further.

Therefore, this is a formal effort to recruit mutli-lingual contributors and organize these contributors to translate our documents in other languages. Once there is enough translations of a particular translation, the Battlestar Wiki, as a group, will sit down and see if there is cause enough for a full language site with the "battlestarwiki.org" domain name.

Currently we have these sub-language projects with there status.
Every language starts out with at least two sysops approved by the English administrators. Afterwards the wiki must hold their own [[BW:RFA|RFA]] hearings.

If you want to help out with any or all of these language wikis, please goto those sites. Keep in mind that you will have to refer to this Wiki for policy questions.
__FORCETOC__

== How to Begin ==

To begin, create a subpage of the article you wish to translate. For instance, let's say you were going to tackle the article on [[The Fleet (RDM)|The Fleet]] and translate it into Spanish. Here's how you would begin:

* In the search box, type in:
*: The Fleet/'''es''':La Flota
* Press "Go". Select "create this article" option.
* Begin translating the article. Once done, list the article on this page under Articles Translated.

Once there are a growing number of articles, Joe or Shane will then set up an invidiual BSG Wiki for that language. (i.e. [[:de:Main Page|de.battlestarwiki.org]] for German BSG Wiki, et al.). '''Never, ever, place interwiki links on these subpages.'''

== Articles Needing Translation ==

Obviously our eventual goal is to have just about everything translated. Rather than listing every page here, this can be used to request critical pages for translators to focus on.

These three should be the first ones done.
* [[Battlestar Wiki:Spoiler Policy]] - All languages.
* [[Battlestar Wiki:Standards and Conventions]] - All languages.
* [[Battlestar Wiki:Citation Jihad]] - All languages.

There are others to be translated as well that need to be translated before you can even get your own-wiki. Please take a look at the list [[Battlestar Wiki:Translation Project/Required Translations for Own Wiki|here]]. If you can prove that you can deicated a full force of at least 5-10 people to translating all the required information, we will create a language wiki without question and import all your work to the languge wiki.

It is suggeted you start from the oldest episodes and articles first before you more to articles that always under going edits.

There are [[BW:TSAC|standards and conventions]] for translating. Please read this before doing anything.

=== Who is admin of these wikis during setup? ===
Joe and Shane will be the two overall admins (B-crats, Sysop, checkuser), but you would have to decided as a group who will represent your language.

== Language Specific Spoiler Checkpoints ==
''Feel free to adjust the title of this section.''
This section is intended to be a handy place to keep track of how far the series has progressed in the particular languages, in order to avoid translating spoiler content over from the English side. Only languages that are translating in conjunction with the ''English Wiki'' are listed here.
== Overview ==
:''Riots break out in [[The Fleet (RDM)|The Fleet]] over Tigh's declaration of martial law, and a group of ''Galactica'' crewmembers led by [[Lee Adama]] smuggle [[Laura Roslin]] out of the brig and into [[Tom Zarek]]'s hands. Meanwhile, [[Kara Thrace]] and [[Karl Agathon]] fall in with a group of humans who survive on [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]] and started a resistance movement.''

== Summary ==

=== On ''Galactica'' ===

*After returning to ''[[Galactica (RDM)|Galactica]]'' (after being rescued from [[Kobol]] in the last episode, [[Galen Tyrol|Chief Tyrol]] is arrested and interrogated by [[Saul Tigh|Colonel Tigh]], who believes that Tyrol may be a [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylon]]. Although Tyrol states otherwise, Tigh believes that, because of the Chief's relationship with [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Sharon "Boomer" Valerii]], now a known Humanoid Cylon, he can't be trusted. Tyrol is then put into the same brig as Valerii, and warns her to stay away.
*[[Gaius Baltar]] is questioned by [[Cally]] on why no one will help Tyrol. Baltar lies by telling her that his [[Cylon detector]] was flawed, and that he will try to prove that Tyrol is innocent. Cally threatens to reveal what he did to [[Crashdown]] if he doesn't help her.
*After arriving in [[CIC]], Baltar is questioned by Tigh on why the Cylon detector failed to screen out Valerii. Baltar makes up an convenient technical excuse that Tigh dismisses as so much [[technobabble]]. The acting commander orders Baltar to test Tyrol. When Baltar suggests he should assume the role of acting president if [[Laura Roslin]] is incapacitated, Tigh tells him he has no power under martial law.
*Lt. [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]] alerts Tigh to a number of ships in the [[The Fleet (RDM)|Fleet]] that refuse to supply ''Galactica'' with food, water, and [[tylium]], and also protest [[Laura Roslin]]'s incarceration.
*On his way to the brig, [[Lee Adama]] meets [[Anastasia Dualla]] in the hall, who tells him that [[William Adama|Commander Adama]] is still sedated, and that there is a lot of protest and dissention within the Fleet. Dualla also tells young Adama that Tigh's alcohol problem is spinning out of control.
*In his quarters, Tigh tries to figure out a way to get the needed supplies from the protesting ships. [[Ellen Tigh]] tells him that he needs to assert his authority by belittling him. This prompts Tigh to send a stern warning to the other ships, warning them to either resupply ''Galactica'' or face consequences.
*In the brig, Captain Adama tells Roslin that she still holds significant influence on some members of the Fleet (as evidenced by her growing relationship with Corporal [[Venner]]), which prompts Roslin to state something bad is going to happen in the Fleet.
*With the supply ships still refusing to supply ''Galactica'', Tigh orders squadrons of Colonial [[Marines]] to board the ships and take the supplies by any means necessary.
*On the transport ship ''[[Gideon]]'', a group of Marines, led by Lt. [[Joe Palladino|Joe "Hammerhead" Palladino]], attempt to take food supplies off the ship. The civilians grow angrier and fight the troops. A noise that sounds like a gunshot is heard, and the marines fire on the crowd in response, killing 4 civilians.
*Tigh realizes that he has made a bigger mess out of the supply problem. The riot prompts Roslin to realize that this action will splinter the Fleet, which will make them easy targets for the Cylons. Roslin tells Captain Adama that she needs to leave ''Galactica'' as soon as possible. Adama tells her he will come along and has also figured out a way to get off the ship.
*Tigh tells his wife that he is not fit for command, and he knows that she was manipulating him into using strong-arm tactics to resupply ''Galactica''. Ellen tells her husband that if she didn't motivate him, he would never stop drinking, which prompts Ellen and Tigh to start fighting, but instead, they start making love.
*In the brig, Boomer tells Tyrol that she still loves him, but Tyrol dismisses her. Baltar enters the room to test Tyrol to prove he is really human. When injected with a syringe, Tyrol goes into a state of shock from a toxin that Baltar uses. He tells Boomer that he covered up her true nature as a Cylon from the rest of the Fleet, and that if she wants to save Tyrol, she must reveal how many Humanoid Cylons remain in [[The Fleet (RDM)|The Fleet]]. Under duress, Valerii tells Baltar that there are eight other Cylons in the Fleet. Baltar revives Tyrol.
*Captain Adama begins the escape plan, closing down a causeway on the ship for maintenance, securing a [[Raptor]] with which to leave the ship, and bringing Roslin from the brig to the shuttle bay, along with [[Elosha]]. When Roslin tells [[Billy Keikeya]] to board the ship, he tells her that he will be staying behind, because he does not want to be part of a civil war.
*On the bridge, Tigh learns that Captain Adama and Roslin have escaped on a Raptor authorized to launch for use by Dr. [[Cottle]]. Despite the chance to destroy the ship, Tigh holds the fire order on the Raptor, which escapes to ''[[Cloud Nine]]''.
*Upon arriving on ''Cloud Nine'', Roslin learns that Captain Adama has enlisted the help of [[Tom Zarek]] to hide within the Fleet until they can muster enough support to overthrow ''Galactica''.
*As Ellen complains to her husband for not firing on Captain Adama, Commander Adama arrives in the room, having recovered enough to walk and move again, and asks what's happened on the ship. Tigh tells Adama that he messed things up badly, and Adama tells Tigh that they will fix the problem together. Ellen Tigh, in the meanwhile, leaves the room on Adama's request, her hand grasping harshly at the door frame in apparent frustration in the change of events as she leaves.
*Tyrol is released from his cell. Baltar tells him that Boomer will be sent to new, fortified cell for testing. As Boomer is led down the corridor, as she heckled and yelled at by crew members, Cally steps from in the crowd and shoots Valerii point-blank in the abdomen. As Cally is taken into custody, the dying Boomer tells Tyrol she loves him, and passes away.
=== On Caprica ===

*[[Karl Agathon|Helo]] and [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] are lost in the wilderness, and are subsequently shot at by a group of humans. It eventually leads to a standoff between the two groups, but Starbuck manages to convince the humans that they are not Cylons. When asked about their identities, Helo recognizes the group as members of a [[pyramid (RDM)|pyramid]] team called the [[Caprica Buccaneers]].
*The pyramid team-turned-resistance fighters have been attacking the Cylons and stealing supplies from them for weeks. They escaped the [[Fall of the Twelve Colonies|Cylon attack]] as they were away for training in the remote mountains at the time.
*The Buccaneers take Helo and Starbuck to an [[Delphi Union High School|abandoned high school]], where they stay for the night. Starbuck, intrigued, challenges the leader of the group, [[Samuel Anders|Anders]], to a game of pyramid.
*What will Commander Adama do to resolve the crisis now that he has regained consciousness? ([[Home, Part I|Answer 1]] and [[Home, Part II|Answer 2]].)
*What will happen to President Roslin, now on the run? ([[Home, Part I|Answer 1]] and [[Home, Part II|Answer 2]].)
*What will happen to Cally now that she has killed Boomer? ([[The Farm|Answer 1]] and [[Flight of the Phoenix|Answer 2]])
*Could the fact that Cally shoots ''Galactica''-Boomer mean that Cally is a Cylon?
*Could Boomer return to the show, to be reunited with Chief Tyrol, after having her consciousness transferred to another body? ([[Downloaded|Answer 1]] and [[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|Answer 2]])
*Chief Tyrol mentions that he once served aboard battlestar ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''; will this be significant when the ''Pegasus'' is discovered by ''Galactica''? (When he gets in trouble, [[Pegasus (episode)|the answer appears to be "no."]])
*When was the survivor count updated to include the deaths of [[Tarn]] and [[Socinus]] on [[Kobol]]? Clearly not after the survivors were returned to ''Galactica'', or the decrement between this episode and the last would be 3, not 1. Did the decrement of 1 between "[[Scattered]]" and "[[Valley of Darkness]]" refer to [[Tarn]]'s death, or to [[Flyboy]]'s before the opening credits?
*Eight ships in total refuse to resupply ''Galactica''. Tigh orders "a Raptor and an armed marine boarding party for every ship refusing the resupply order." Gaeta explains that they are short on manpower, but says nothing about equipment shortages. A caption then identifies "''Galactica'' Boarding Party Six". Is it possible that ''Galactica'' was able to deploy eight Raptors following the destruction of two in "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I]]", and the scrapping of an additional Raptor in "[[Fragged]]" (which in that episode was necessary to muster even two Raptors)? Were the boarding parties deployed sequentially, not simultaneously? If so, why would manpower shortage be a concern?

== Analysis ==

*Continuing from the events of last episode, "[[Fragged]]," Cally has indeed threatened Dr. Baltar with revealing that he [[Wikipedia:Frag (military)|fragged]] [[Crashdown]] in return for demanding that he help Chief Tyrol.
*Baltar has a working [[Cylon detector]] ([[Flesh and Bone]]) and access to blood samples from every Colonial in the Fleet. It could well be that he already knows how many Cylon infiltrators are in the fleet, and was actually testing Boomer to see if she did, too. Before Cally shot her, he was intending to interrogate her further -- perhaps this was a trial run of the method he intended to use to extract vital information from her subconscious?
**However, Baltar told Six that it would take around 60 years to test everyone in the Fleet because one person's complete test would take 11 hours; he doesn't know how many are in the fleet.
***It takes him less than two minutes to determine Boomer's true nature in "[[Flesh and Bone]]". Whatever reason Baltar has for giving the 11 hour estimate clearly doesn't preclude him determining unambiguous positives in a more reasonable timeframe.
***It has been (approximately, see timeline issues below) 26 days since "[[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]]", during which only one result was produced (for [[Ellen Tigh]]), minus the 3 days Baltar spent attending [[Quorum of Twelve|Quorum]] sessions and 2 days stranded on [[Kobol]]. The remaining 20 day period would only be sufficient to produce an additional 43 results. Tigh's chagrin that "no one's results are definitive" may imply that a substantially greater number have been produced.
**As of "[[Home, Part I]]", this line of inquiry is somewhat moot. Baltar does not know the ''identity'' of the remaining Cylon infiltrators, and regrets not asking Boomer before her death.
*[[Saul Tigh|Tigh]]'s authority on the ship appears to have grown more tenuous. Numerous officers and crew are now willing to actively assist in [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]]'s escape. [[Anastasia Dualla|Dualla]], Dr. [[Cottle]] and [[Lee Adama]] are all directly involved. [[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]] assists indirectly by denying knowledge of the unusual transmissions detected prior to the jail break even after asking Dualla about them earlier.
*[[Felix Gaeta|Gaeta]], who we learned to know as a very correct officer, lies to Col. Tigh when he asks for any unusual transmissions after President Roslin's escape.

== Notes ==
*As of the opening credits, the fleet population is now 47,861, reflecting the death of [[Crashdown]] in "[[Fragged]]".
** Does (or will) this count discriminate between humans and Cylons? Was Boomer ever removed from this count?
*This episode gave no direct indication of its date. All the first season episodes identified the date during their Caprica segments, and the first three episodes of this season have taken place on the same day as "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]". There are a few possible indicators of time elapsed:
**Tyrol is in a holding cell. He apparently hasn't been there for long, and his arm is still in a sling.
**Baltar's numerous facial cuts and scrapes are still somewhat visible.
**Apollo has been gone from the officer's card game long enough to be missed. His last game was on Day 50.
**Apollo asks Dualla how his father is doing "this morning", and Dualla's response implies that this is at least the second time he's asked her. His first opportunity to do so would have been on the morning of Day 52. [[Ronald D. Moore]]'s [[podcast]] says that this conversation has been a "routine happening each day", i.e., more than twice. This puts this episode at Day 54 at least.
**In the episode "[[Final Cut]]", we learn that Tigh was in command for "over a week", which unfortunately tells little - the next episode, where Adama finally resumes command, takes place "the next week" after this one.
* Boomer dies in this episode, shot by [[Cally]]. There is still the Valerii copy on Caprica, which will reappear in the next episode, and in later episodes be taken aboard ''Galactica'' ([[Home, Part II]]).
**Boomer dies in a manner that mirrors what happened to [[Wikipedia:Lee Harvey Oswald|Lee Harvey Oswald]] (the assassin of U.S. President John F. Kennedy). Oswald himself is shot at point blank range by a man named [[Wikipedia:Jack Ruby|Jack Ruby]] while being transferred to another prison. According to an [http://www.spankwagon.net/audio/std/STD-2005-08-24.mp3 interview] with Aaron Douglas, the scene was intentionally meant to resemble the infamous video of Ruby shooting Oswald: before it was shot, all of the Marine and crew extras were shown the Ruby video, and instructed to copy the reactions of specific guards in the video to make the scene more closely resemble the assasination.
*The shooting on the ''Gideon'' was inspired by the [[Wikipedia:Kent State shootings|Kent State Shootings]]. Some have also stated that it is somewhat similar to the [[Wikipedia:Boston Massacre|Boston Massacre]], which helped spark the [[Wikipedia:American Revolutionary War|American Revolutionary War]]. [[Ronald D. Moore]]'s podcast says that this scene was directly inspired by the Boston Massacre. A group of armed soldiers, not trained or equipped as riot police, are being pelted with objects (albeit non-lethal ones) by a hostile crowd and react with the training and equipment that they have when a threat is perceived.
*Tigh accusing Chief Tyrol of being a Cylon is reminiscent of the communist witch hunts of the McCarthy era.
*If Boomer is to be believed, there are eight more Cylons hiding in the Fleet. It has already been established that there are only 12 Cylons models in existence, and four have already been revealed in the Fleet ([[Shelly Godfrey]], [[Leoben Conoy]], [[Aaron Doral]], and now [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]]), so each of the as-yet-unknown models may have a representative copy hiding in the Fleet. (Three new Cylon infiltrators, one found on [[The Farm|Caprica]], and one [[D'anna Biers|female]] and [[Cavil|male]] have been identified to viewers since this episode.)
**Boomer produced this number under extreme duress. It is possible that she simply fabricated it, or that Baltar was relying on "God" to produce it for her, as he himself did in "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]". Furthermore, Balter counts down "10, 9" stopping before 8.
**Baltar asserted during the scene that Boomer had the information in her subconscious, so this may have been a way of producing it from extreme duress.
*Commander Adama has regained consciousness.
*There is a small resistance movement on Caprica comprising as of now 53 people, and [[Karl Agathon|Helo]] and [[Kara Thrace|Starbuck]] have joined up with them.
*Chief [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]] has been serving on battlestars since he was 18. Other battlestars he has served on include the ''[[Columbia]]'', ''[[Atlantia]]'', and ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]''.
**According to an interview on [http://www.spankwagon.net/audio/std/STD-2005-08-24.mp3 Subject2Discussion], actor Aaron Douglas (who plays Tyrol) said that a connection between this line, and the later arrival of ''[[Pegasus (RDM)|Pegasus]]'', never occurred to him until a fan asked him about it at a convention after the episode had aired. Douglas is unaware if the writers intended any further backstory behind this for Tyrol, or if they were just throwing out battlestar names.
**Taking Adama's comments from "[[Litmus]]" and his dossier seen in "[[Hero]]" into concideration, Tyrol also served on the battlestar ''[[Valkyrie]]'' but neglected to mention it.
*First mention of the battlestar ''Pegasus'' in the Re-imagined Series.
*First time that Chief Tyrol's first name, "Galen", has been spoken on screen. Previously it was only known from an entry in Ron D. Moore's blog.
*Baltar's Six considers the term "[[toaster]]" to be a "racial epithet".
*Apollo can pilot a Raptor. He brought a pilot along with him in "[[Fragged]]".
*"[[Brendan Constanza|Hot Dog]]" Constanza is now leading [[Combat Air Patrol]]s.
*This episode introduces a conspiracy to free Laura Roslin from imprisonment. (see; [[Laura Roslin faction]])
*One of ''Galactica's'' Raptors is aboard ''[[Cloud Nine]]''. It was all ''Galactica'' could do to muster two Raptors in "[[Fragged]]", although they had four in operation earlier that day in "[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II]]". Will ''Cloud Nine'' return the vehicle, and if not, will this further hamper ''Galactica's'' ability to deploy marines within the Fleet?
*[[Tylium]] is used to fuel the maneuvering thrusters on the [[Viper (RDM)|Viper]] craft, as well as the FTL engines for the rest of the fleet.
*The background music in the scene where Lee Adama says goodbye to his unconscious father is a faint echo of "Wander my Friends", the victory music from "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]".
*Dualla has indicated that she would prefer him to be in command, as opposed to the frequently inebriated Tigh. She also casts a friendlier-than-usual glance at Apollo's backside as he is escorted to the brig.
*Col. Tigh derides Dr. Baltar for using "[[Technobabble|technobabble]]" pseudoscientific explanations frequently used on RDM's old ''"[[Wikipedia:Star Trek: The Next Generation|Star Trek: The Next Generation]]"'' series.
*Six and Ellen Tigh are both blonds who drive the men to action by whispering over their shoulders.

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

* ''Baltar tries to explain the failure of his Cylon detector:''
:'''Saul Tigh:''' What the hell's the matter with your Cylon detector, doctor? You gave the assassin a pass.
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' Yes, but that was a beta test. A preliminary. Clearly I've perfected my methodology and she slipped through.
:'''Saul Tigh:''' So what the hell are you telling me here, that we are back to square one? That no one's results are definitive?
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' No, I am-
:'''Saul Tigh:''' That we have no way of knowing who are the Cylons among us?
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' -not saying that, since Valerii's test- since the assassin's test I've developed a new set of protocols which should eliminate any errors - anomalies - that popped up earlier. Look, if you let me test the chief's blood, I might be able to tell once and for all if-
:'''Saul Tigh:''' No "if"! I want a definitive answer, no more of your weaselly [[technobabble]]. He's a Cylon or he's not. So get down there and do something right for a change.
:'''Gaius Baltar''': I am the Vice President. Legally speaking, if the President is incapacitated, shouldn't I take over her-
:'''Saul Tigh''': Legally speaking, I have declared martial law, that makes you nobody.

* ''In ''Galactica's'' brig, Tyrol is led into a cell with Sharon Valerii:''
:'''Sharon Valerii:''' (crying) Chief? I thought you were on Kobol?
:(Tyrol is shoved into the cell, and Sharon tries to hug him)
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' Don't you talk to me. Don't come near me. Don't even touch me. If you do, I will kill you.

* ''In one of ''Galactica's'' corridors:''
:'''Cally:''' They locked the Chief up with Boomer. Tigh thinks he's a Cylon.
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' I know. I'm going to see the Colonel now. If anyone's going to find a way to clear the Chief, or...
:'''Cally:''' Or what? Throw him out the airlock like a piece of garbage? If Commander Adama were in charge, this would have never happened.
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' Yes, but he's not in charge, is he?

* ''Chief Tyrol has been wrongly accued of being a Cylon, and Cally pleads with Baltar for help:''
:'''Cally:''' I've known the Chief for years. He's no Toaster!
:'''Baltar:''' He was involved with Lieutenant Valerii, who most certainly is a Toaster.
:'''Number Six:''' That word is racist! I don't like it!
:'''Cally:''' Sure...he's shown some bad judgment getting involved with her. But that doesn't mean he's a Toaster. You've got to help him.
:'''Number Six:''' Say something, Gaius. Tell her you won't have racial epithets used in your presence!

* ''Mechanics are building a new brig cell to imprison suspected Cylons:''
:'''Cally:''' They're putting the Chief in there, you know.
:'''Jammer:''' I don't care if they put a giant parakeet in here. Colonel says build a cell, we build a cell.
:'''Cally:''' This isn't right. He's one of us!
:'''Jammer:''' No, he's one of them. He always was. We just never saw it.
:'''Cally:''' No, he's innocent! She tricked him!
:'''Jammer:''' Wow, such loyalty. Were you fracking him too? (Cally slams Jammer into a wall, then punches him in the face. Hard) You want to get pissed at someone, you get pissed at Boomer! She's the one who put the Chief in the cell here, not us!

* ''After Lee Adama and President Roslin arrive on ''Cloud Nine'':''
:'''Lee Adama:''' Well, we're home free for now.
:'''Tom Zarek:''' (standing in the hangar bay) Good to see you, Madam President.
:'''Laura Roslin:''' Captain Apollo, what is Mr. Zarek doing here?
:'''Lee Adama:''' Once Tigh gets over his initial shock, he'll send troops out to search for us, and if we're going to make it, we have to keep on the move. I figured Mr. Zarek here is the only one in the fleet with enough shady friends around to hide us.
:'''Tom Zarek:''' (to Laura) I love the way he puts that.
:'''Laura Roslin:''' Well, Mr. Zarek, it would seem that the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
:'''Tom Zarek:''' Call me Tom.

* Galactica-''Sharon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s dying words:''
:'''Sharon Valerii:''' I love you, Chief...

== Official Statements ==
* '''[[Nicki Clyne]] comments on [[Cally]]'s motivations in shooting [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]] from [http://scifibrain.ign.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2384&Itemid=0 Scifibrain's March 17, 2006 interview]:'''
*# I think Boomer represented all the things that were wrong for her at that time, including her relationship with [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]]. So, I think she just saw Boomer as this symbol of what was wrong for her at the time. She couldn’t see any other way to deal with it.
*# ''On whether or not Cally was guilty for killing [[Sharon Valerii (Galactica copy)|Boomer]]:'' That is a tough one, and I think about that a lot, because I don’t think it is right to kill anything. I don’t think it can ever be a positive feeling. At the time, she felt like there was no other way, and that was her only option, but I am sure upon reflection in the brig, or when she got back to work, that she saw how it affected Tyrol. That she, she shows a lot of wondering. There is actually a [[List of Deleted Scenes (RDM)|scene that got cut]] [in "[[Flight of the Phoenix]]"], but she finally approaches the Chief, when she is finally sick of him ignoring her, after she has gotten out of jail, she says, "If I had a chance, I would do it all over again."
== Overview ==

: ''After rediscovering [[The Fleet (RDM)|The Fleet]], [[Cylon Centurion]]s board ''[[Galactica]]'' and wreak havoc, while [[Lee Adama]] and a rag-tag group of pilots and marines attempt to thwart the Cylon's methodical plans.''

== Summary ==

===On ''Galactica''===

* After [[FTL|jumping]] successfully to the Fleet's location once [[Scattered|rediscovering their actual location]], ''Galactica'''s power systems shut down unexpectedly.
* After landing on ''Galactica'', pilots [[Lee Adama]], [[Louanne Katraine|Kat]], [[Brendan Constanza|Hot Dog]], and [[Flyboy]] walk through the corridors with flashlights. Flyboy stumbles into a Cylon Centurion, which kills him as the rest attempt to flee.
* As Hot Dog and Kat flee up a stairway, Adama attempts to kill the Cylon with his sidearm, but the bullets ricochet off the Centurion. A small group of [[marines]] destroy the Cylon from behind with an explosive round. Unfortunately, it was their last round, and only explosive rounds work against this heavily-armored version of Centurion.
* [[Laura Roslin]] convinces Corporal [[Venner]] that she must leave her cell and escape the brig before the Cylons find them. On Captain Adama's advice, Venner leads the group to the safest location on the ship, [[sickbay]].
* Adama's group finds the storage locker on deck 12. Inside, they find [[Jammer]] (a member of [[Galen Tyrol|Tyrol]]'s repair crew) and only six explosive rounds.
* Lt. [[Felix Gaeta]] manages to warn the remainder of the Fleet to stay away from ''Galactica'' by [[wireless]] before the Cylons jam external communications.
*Gaeta notes a [[Virus|Cylon virus]] has infected some of the ship's isolated computers while they were networked; he has teams cleaning out the infection.
* Roslin's group find the bodies of some of ''Galactica'''s enlisted crew, massacred by the Cylons except for one survivor: a shell-shocked [[Anastasia Dualla]]. As Billy tries to snap Dualla out of her shock, Venner discovers that the Cylons have depressurised the route they had planned to take to sickbay. The group, now with Dualla, heads out along an alternative route that goes past [[Aft Damage Control]].
* Tigh gets reports that some of the Cylons have been taken out by teams throughout the ship. He suspects that the Cylons are heading towards two sections of the ship -- one of which is Aft Damage Control -- in order to vent the ship's atmosphere. (After the ship is vented and the crew terminated, Tigh states that the Cylons would turn ''Galactica's'' guns on the Fleet.)
* Captain Adama contacts [[CIC]], where Tigh orders him to stop the Cylons at Aft Damage Control and prevent the Cylons from overriding the venting safeguards.
* Captain Adama, Jammer, Kat, and two marines station themselves near the Aft Damage Control compartment. As they ready the defense against the advancing Cylons, Roslin's group hides in a nearby passageway to avoid being discovered, unaware of how close their group is to Adama's squad and the Cylons. The Cylons run down a hallway towards [[Aft Damage Control]], but are distracted when Keikeya accidentally fires a round. The distraction places Roslin's group in danger but gives Adama and his team enough time to destroy the Cylon attackers.
*Having successfully destroyed the Cylons and with sufficient ship control restored, Doctor [[Cottle]] is summoned to ''Galactica''. In sickbay, Roslin assures Lee Adama that [[William Adama|Commander Adama]] will be fine, and she is taken back to the brig. Tigh tells Captain Adama that he is still shocked that he would side with the President instead of his own father, and that he is unfit to wear a [[Colonial]] uniform. Captain Adama agrees but tells Tigh that he isn't fit to wear the uniform either, deferring what will happen with both of them to his unconscious father once he returns to work.

===On Caprica===
*[[Karl Agathon|Karl "Helo" Agathon]] and [[Kara Thrace|Kara "Starbuck" Thrace]] discuss how the Cylons have a habit of fooling everyone.
*Thrace leads them to her old apartment, where she reminisces about how she hated it and how she keeps fighting because it's the only thing she knows. To Helo's suprise, Thrace's apartment is full of abstract paintings of her own making and tapes of piano music composed by her father.
*They later leave driving Thrace's old army truck.

===On Kobol===
*[[Gaius Baltar]] has a dream where [[William Adama]] drowns Baltar's daughter.
*When he wakes up, he is in [[Number Six]]'s arms, surrounded by human skulls and bones. Six tells Baltar that they were victims of human sacrifice, and that the [[Sacred_Scrolls|Scriptures]] were lies, fabricated to cover up how barbaric life on Kobol really was.
*When he returns to the others, Baltar is harangued by [[Crashdown]].
*[[Galen Tyrol|Chief Tyrol]] feels responsible for [[Tarn]]'s death, but [[Cally]] snaps him out of his self-pity.
*The two return with the medkits, but it is too late to save [[Socinus]]' life. Telling him that he is going home, Tyrol reluctantly euthanizes him with an overdose of [[morpha]].

== Questions ==
*The remains Baltar and Six find cannot be thousands of years old; they would not have survived in the open. Did the [[Thirteenth Tribe]] leave Kobol recently? Do humans, at least until recently, still inhabit Kobol? Or were all the remains merely fabricated hallucinations by Six?
*Were the human skeletons real, or a hallucination created for Baltar by Six? If the skeletons ''were'' real, was Six lying when she said they were the result of human sacrifice (i.e. they could have been from the cataclysm that drove humanity off of Kobol)?
:When [[Battlestar Wiki:Official Communiques#Human sacrifice|asked about this]] episode writer [[Bradley Thompson]] answered: "The question at the bottom of this is: "Who is Six?" In such cases, I'm not going to embellish what Ron & David have put on the screen."
*Why would later humans have felt it necessary to cover up the nature of civilization on Kobol? Is it related to the reason why Kobol was abandoned in the first place? How would the Cylons have found out? Did Six just make it up, or could it be the Cylon interpretation of the Scriptures?

== Analysis ==
*The Centurions in this episode can only be destroyed by explosive rounds, which is a large plot element. However, in episodes before and after "Valley of Darkness", Centurions have been seen being destroyed by regular bullets. These Centurions might have heavier armor because they are being used for a boarding action and will see heavy fighting. When episode writer Bradley Thompson was [[Battlestar Wiki:Official Communiques#Centurion armor|asked]] about this by BattlestarWiki, he answered:
:"Centurions are constantly being upgraded - new ones come out with better armor, quieter servos, better battle software. Some are designed for different uses (the ones designed for submarine use have REALLY heavy armor but are exceptionally slow, and have reduced ammunition carrying capacity.) Not to mention that the Colonials have remarkably bright backyard engineers -- they've been hot-loading our small-arms rounds, coming up with better armor-piercing projectiles -- it's the constant ebb-and-flow of wartime technology."

== Notes ==
*The title refers the well-known Psalm 23 from the bible.
*The fleet population cited in the opening credits is 47,874. This is one less than the previous episode—prior to the opening credits, a Cylon is seen killing a ''Galactica'' crew member.
*First episode without an appearance by [[Sharon Valerii]] (except in opening montage).
*Helo reveals to Starbuck that the Cylons recovered the bodies and brought them to cremation centers, hence the lack of bodies.
*Socinus, initially slated to die in early drafts of "[[Scattered]]", dies in this episode -- euthanised by Tyrol.
*Colonials use internal combustion engines (Starbuck's Humvee). Assuming that it was the Colonists that brought organic life along with them to the Twelve Colonies -- as Kobol's wildlife (birds and trees and such) is identical to Caprica's -- the engines may not burn fossil fuels, though, since the Kobol's refugees arrived on the Colonies only thousands of years rather than the millions of years it takes for fossil fuels to form. However, Kobol's life forms could also simply have replaced or supplemented less evolved or less strong life forms on the Colonial planets, as happened several times on Earth where non-ingenious life forms can wreck havoc on a local ecosystem; or the local life forms may have died out through a catastrophic event. Both scenarios leave enough time for original life forms to be turned into fossil fuels.
* [[Kate Vernon]] is listed as a guest star in the opening credits. However, her character, [[Ellen Tigh]], never makes an appearance in this episode. She is only shown in the deleted scenes.
* The music that we hear in Kara Thrace's apartment and again during the closing act of the episode is ''Metamorphosis One'', composed by [[w:Philip Glass|Philip Glass]]. It is from Glass's 1989 album ''Solo Piano''.
*The fate of the Heavy Raider in the starboard bay is unknown. It's possible that, like Starbuck's captured Raider, they kept it for study. However, the crash may have damaged it beyond repair.
*In the German broadcast redubbing of Cally's now-infamous "Talk to me, you motherfrakker!" line, "motherfrakker" is replaced with "blöder arsch", which translates as "stupid ass". The real world equivalent of the curse word "motherfrakker" doesn't really exist in German, and a direct translation into German would have sounded particularly obscene, so the line was changed, and the joke is therefore somewhat lost in translation.
*The aparment complex used in this episode is later reused as the prison-apartment on [[New Caprica]] in which [[Leoben Conoy]] holds Starbuck captive at the start of the third season ([[Occupation]] through [[Exodus, Part II]]).
*The sun painting on the wall in Starbuck's apartment is later revealed to be a representation of the [[Eye of Jupiter]] subconsciously painted by Starbuck.

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

* ''On the surface of Kobol, Chief Tyrol and Cally are on their way to rendezvous with the rest of the Raptor crash survivors:''
:'''Cally:''' (exhausted from walking) What do you say we take five?
:(Chief Tyrol is still in a state of shock from having lost Tarn to a surprise attack by the Cylons and leans against a tree)
:'''Cally:''' How much further, do you think?
:(Chief Tyrol ignores her)
:'''Cally:''' [[Tarn]] getting shot...it wasn't your fault, you know that right?... Chief?
:(Chief Tyrol is silent)
:'''Cally:''' Talk to me, you mother[[frak]]ker!
:(Chief Tyrol turns around and looks at her strangely)
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' (laughing) Motherfrakker?
:'''Cally:''' Socinus better appreciate this.
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' He's probably lying in the sun, staring up at the birds like some Gods' damned emperor. He's an idiot.
:'''Cally:''' I hope he's okay... — {{audio|VOD - motherfrakker.mp3|listen}}

* ''Regarding [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|"Sharon, the Cylon"]]:''
:'''Starbuck:''' (to Helo, sarcastically) Your girlfriend’s from a ''lovely'' family, good people, great values. — {{audio|VOD - great family values.mp3|listen}}

* ''In her apartment on Caprica, Starbuck and Helo stop to rest:''
:'''Kara Thrace:''' (sitting on her couch) You know, I never really liked this place anyway. Air conditioning doesn't work in the summer. Heater doesn't work in the winter. The rent's a crime...(lights a cigarette)...After they attacked, I never pined over any of my old crap. Never missed it. Stupid view of the parking lot. Broken toilet in the bathroom...You know, everyone I know is fighting to get back what they had. I'm fighting because I don't know how to do anything else. — {{audio|VOD - why people fight.mp3|listen}}

*''Speaking to Marines:''
:'''Lee Adama''': "Let’s go [[toaster]] shopping." — {{audio|VOD - toaster shopping.mp3|listen}}

* ''Chief Tyrol and Cally have rejoined the others on Kobol, and they find out that Socinus isn't going to survive much longer:''
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' How's he doing?
:'''Selix:''' He's not going to make it.
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' What? What do you mean? What are you talking about? We got the medkit! Give him a shot! Give him another shot!
:'''Selix:''' It's too late.
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' What do you mean, it's too late? I got you the medkit! What else do you want? (looking stunned) So we...got the medicine you asked for...Tarn...and for what? For this? Come on! You have to do something. You have to do something!
:'''Selix:''' We can't change that he's going to die, Chief. It's going to be slow and painful, and we can spare him that if we give him the morpha from my kit and the one that you brought back.
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' What? No. (looks at Crashdown) LT..LT, come on!
:'''Crashdown:''' He's your man, Chief.
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' Give it to me. (takes morpha from Selix and leans down beside Socinus) Hey buddy. It's the Chief. How you doing?
:'''Socinus:''' (wheezing) What's going on?
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' Oh, you know...listening to the birds. I got you a little something for the pain. (injects morpha into Socinus) Good news, buddy. The recovery party's here. Raptors just landed. We're going to put you on one and take you back to ''Galactica'', okay?
:'''Socinus:''' We're going home?
:'''Chief Tyrol:''' Yeah...(tears welling in his eyes)...we're going home.
:(Socinus passes away) — {{audio|VOD_-_Socinus'_death.mp3|listen}}

* ''In ''Galactica's'' sickbay:''
:'''Colonel Tigh:''' I can't believe you sided with that woman against [[The Old Man|the old man]]. I wouldn't do that if you put a gun to my head...[[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II|and you did]]! As far as I'm concerned, you're not fit to wear a uniform.
:'''Lee Adama:''' Huh. You're right about that part. I am not fit to wear the uniform...and maybe I never was. Then again, neither are you. But this isn't my ship, and it sure as hell isn't yours. (motions at Commander Adama) It's his, and when he wakes up, he'll decide what to do with the both of us. (Captain Adama leaves for the brig)
:'''Colonel Tigh:''' Thank the Gods I didn't have kids. — {{audio|VOD - not fit to wear the uniform.mp3|listen}}

* ''In Aft Damage Control, preparing to fight the Cylons:''
:'''Lee Adama''': Sometimes you got to roll a hard six.
:'''[[Jammer]]''': What does that mean, sir?
:'''Lee Adama''': Uh, I don't know. It's something my [[William Adama|dad]] says. — {{audio|VOD - roll the hard six.mp3|listen}}
* "We've almost completed shooting the opening of Season Two, with [[Michael Rymer]] back at the helm filming a two-parter written by [[David Weddle]] & [[Bradley Thompson]] called '[[Scattered]]' and '[[Valley of Darkness]].' Things have been going well so far, with a good mood on the set and a feeling of satisfaction and pride running through the whole team at their accomplishments in year one and anticipation for year two."<ref name="blog-4-11-05">{{cite web|url=http://blog.scifi.com/battlestar/archives/2005/04/|title=Battlestar Galactica: April 2005 Blog Archives|author=Ron D.
* ''"[[Lee Adama|Apollo]]'s betrayal of [[William Adama|Adama]]'s decision to arrest the [[Laura Roslin|president]] is detracting from the believability of the show for me. I'm listining to your [[podcast]] of [[Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II|ep. 113]] as I write this and you just said Lee is "a more capable, more competent, leader . . ." He's also struck me as a fairly honorable character. If he had doubts about this mission I think he would have at least voiced them and then not gone along with the strike team so he would not have been put in the position he was. I hope you won't use Adama's near death experience at the end of season one/start of season two to "write off" these betrayals, esp. Apollo's. His was much more unforgivable considering his relationship with Adama, his leadership role in the fleet, and the battle between the president and Adama. I find it hard to see Lee continuing as [[CAG]] after this. "''

== Overview ==

: ''Colonial Day is due, and [[Laura Roslin]] is using the occasion to institute an interim [[Quorum of Twelve]]; then [[Tom Zarek]], duly selected as the representative of [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Sagittaron|Sagittaron]], stands for the post of Vice President, a position Roslin is determined he will not hold.''

== Summary ==

*[[Colonial Day (holiday)|Colonial Day]], the annual anniversary of the signing of the [[Articles of Colonization]], has arrived. President [[Laura Roslin|Roslin]] has formed a new [[Quorum of Twelve]], the legislative branch of the Colonial [[Government]], and has decided to have her unveiling of the new Quorum coincide with the patriotic holiday
*A tension erupts when terrorist/criminal [[Tom Zarek]] wins nomination as [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Sagittaron|Sagittaron]] representitive on the Quorum. Roslin feels she cannot remove him, as he won the election fairly (many on Sagittaron view him as a hero of their downtrodden Tribe).
*At the first meeting of the Quorum, Zarek creates a crisis by insisting that the vacant post of Vice President be filled by a special vote of the Quorum, in case anything should happen to Roslin – a move that is surprisingly seconded by [[Gaius Baltar]] (when prodded by Number Six)– Tom Zarek is thereupon nominated as a vice presidential candidate. He has been using his men on the Astral Queen to perform technical favors for several other ships, to the support of several, plus he plays on various disatisfactions in the refugee fleet.
*Roslin responds by pushing [[Wallace Gray]], a presidential aide, into standing as an alternative candidate.
*Manipulating the [[Colonial Gang|media]], Zarek makes headway in his desire to secure the position as Vice President, while a man named [[Valance]] plots in secret to carry out an assasinate plot against her – possibly orchestrated by Zarek.
*Surprisingly, it is Gaius Baltar who comes to her aid: flashing his pre-attack charsima, he gives an eloquent speech to the media that reminds the people of Roslin’s qualities and Zarek’s questionable background (trying to look supportive of Roslin and look more favorable). Roslin realizes that Baltar is quite popular in the Fleet (particularly following the unmasking of a [[Six Degrees of Separation|Cylon plot to discredit him]] and has Gray relinquish his position as her nominee in favor of Baltar.
*Baltar wins the nomination through a close vote, as the Quorum is evenly split, but as president Roslin is allowed to cast the tie breaking vote which enables Baltar's victory – but Zarek makes it clear matters are far from over: there is still the presidential elections due in 6 months. Roslin introduces Baltar as the victor at the Colonial Day Celebration.

=== On Caprica: ===
*[[Karl Agathon|Helo]] and [[Sharon Valerii (Caprica copy)|Valerii]] have reached the outskirts of [[Delphi]]
*Helo ponders how he could have seen two women who look exactly the same helping the Cylons, after recently seeing a Number Six copy leading a squad of Centurions. Quickly putting two and two together (the Cylons had probably tried to make sure that Helo never saw humanoid Cylons before, so he wouldn't suspect Caprica-Sharon) and considers the [[Humanoid Cylon|Humanoid Cylons]] to be some sort of human "replicants", created by the Cylons using human DNA. Helo realizes that this would explain the rapid fall of the Twelve Colonies, as the humanoid Cylons must have infiltrated the Colonies to soften them up for an invasion.
*Caprica-Sharon uses this idea as a means of testing his possible feelings towards her, should she reveal her true identity. She starts to say that maybe the humanoid Cylons are mislead or that their attack on the Colonies were wrong and they might doubt that it was the right thing to do (her own current thoughts), but Helo dismisses this as he feels they're just more Cylons.
*Later, as they try to enter the Cylon base at Delphi, Helo sees another Valerii copy, and instantly realises the truth, flashing through his adventures on Caprica and all of the coincidences surrounding his escape – at which point he immediately runs away from both Caprica-Sharon and the base.

== Questions ==

*Just how much freedom of movement within the fleet have Zarek’s people gained since the events of [[Bastille Day]]? ([[The Farm|Answer]]: While Zarek seems to be allowed unrestricted access to any vessel in the fleet his fellow inmates still appear to be confined to the [[Astral Queen]]. He is probably one of the prisoners that has been paroled after earning "freedom points" for work performed for the Fleet).
*Will Zarek be able to use this apparent freedom to rally support for the forthcoming elections? ([[Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II|Answer]])
*Was Zarek really behind the suspected attempt on Roslin’s life?
*How does the Quorum of Twelve relate to the Office of the President? Does it function in a similar manner to the US Congress? [[Government of the Twelve Colonies|Answer]]
*Who killed Valance?
*When exactly is Colonial Day, the day? Reporter [[James McManus]] states that it will coincide with the first meeting of the interim [[Quorum of Twelve]], but Commander Adama also gives the day as "Colonial Day" at Baltar's victory gala, two days later.

== Analysis ==
*By this point in the late first season, the writers and actors seem to have gained an increasingly better grasp of the story they are trying to tell, and the dialogue, characterization, and plot developments are flowing much more smoothly than in the early learning-curve period of "[[Water]]" and "[[Bastille Day]]".
*It seems a small cheat that Cloud Nine has not been seen before, but this is explained as that she was heavily damaged and undergoing repairs until now.
*It is slightly odd that [[Wallace Gray]] is supposedly one of Roslin's top aides and has played a large role in the work of her administration, but has not been seen until now. Of course, this is the mechanics of introducing new characters on a tv series at play. However, Roslin ''is'' often followed around by many nameless aides with the implication that there are more working for her "off screen" than a given episode focuses on (in the podcasts, Ron Moore and David Eick have said that they feel they make Roslin seem more official onscreen).
*It is ironic that Baltar himself makes no drive to put himself on the road to power; Roslin (and other major characters) make him vice president because they prefer him over Zarek (even though Roslin admits that she does not like Baltar or particularly trust him, and admits that it is a "choose the devil you know" situation.
*Despite being a clever manipulator of human emotion, Number Six seems also capable of immature self-delusion by convincing herself that Baltar can have sex with whoever he wants, such as [[Playa Palacios]], but this is irrelevant because his "heart" is hers: this goes to show how "human" the biomechanical Cylons can be, as even though they are "machines" they have advanced to the point that they exhibit human emotional foibles.
*Caprica-Sharon is showing more symptoms of being pregnant, as well as guilt over the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies. She now feels the attack was wrong and the Cylons are misguided/self-deluded.
*During Season 1, several critics and fans expressed that they thought it odd that Helo never suspected Caprica-Sharon of being a [[Humanoid Cylon]] at all. However, this is an unfair criticism: Helo was not present on ''Galactica'' when the existence of humanoid Cylon models was revealed, and very probably during their experiment the Cylons attempted to avoid exposing Helo to humanoid Cylon models (after his initial "capture" by a single Number Six). Helo only sees a second Number Six copy in this episode because it is after he and Caprica-Sharon went on the run from the Cylons for real, after Caprica-Sharon's change of heart. —— Putting these accusations of Helo's unperceptiveness to rest, in this episode immediately after seeing a second Number Six (when last we saw him in "[[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]]") within minutes Helo ''on his own'' theorizes that the Cylons must have created human models or DNA replicants of some sort, who must have been infiltrating Colonial society as Trojan Horses, explaining the rapid fall of the Twelve Colonies. Later, when Helo sees another Sharon-model Cylon copy, after recovering from his shock the events of the past two months instantly fit together in his mind, he realizes he has been duped, and he (prudently) runs away.

== Notes ==
*10 days have passed since the events of [[The Hand of God (RDM)|The Hand of God]].
*The office of the President operates in conjunction with the Quorum of Twelve, a council of representatives of the Twelve Colonies.
*The Articles of Colonisation were signed 52 years ago.
**Given the Twelve Colonies have been inhabited for millennia, the Articles therefore don't directly relate to the settlement of these worlds.
**However, given the timeframe (52 years) and its proximity to the first Cylon War, perhaps the original articles were the document that united the Twelve Colonies to fight the threat of the Cylons, and became the basis for their peaceful co-operation after the war.
*Issues surrounding the distribution of food and medical supplies are beginning to cause concern within the fleet.
*Despite being "isolated" aboard the ''[[Astral Queen]]'' ([[Bastille Day]]), Zarek has managed to use his time to build up contacts within the fleet and offer assistance to other vessels - so much so that the representative from Virgon is only too willing to throw his support behind Zarek.
*Apparently convicted felons lose their citizenship under Sagittarian penal law but have it automatically reinstated after they finish serving their sentences. This included the right to vote and to stand for election.
*This episode contains the first glimpse of the Cylon [[Heavy Raider]], which is seen landing on Cylon-occupied [[The Twelve Colonies (RDM)#Caprica|Caprica]].
*After Valance's assassination, the whiteboard on ''[[Colonial One]]'' shows 47,898 survivors in the fleet, a net loss of 7 since [[Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down]].
*This episode is the first to show (however briefly) a version of [[Number Eight]] that isn't "Sharon Valerii".
*Dr. Baltar apparently didn't give consent or even know of his nomination to a seat in the Quorum of Twelve, thus making it a little unclear how exactly the elections took place without a preexisting list of candidates.
*[[James McManus]], host of [[The Colonial Gang]], doesn't seem to mind using [[frak|the F-word]] on the air.
*The controversy surrounding whether [[Laura Roslin]] would shake [[Tom Zarek]]'s hand intentionally mirrored that at the signing of the [[wikipedia:Oslo Accords|Oslo Accords]] in 1993 about whether [[wikipedia:Yitzhak Rabin|Yitzhak Rabin]] would shake hands with [[wikipedia:Yasser Arafat|Yasser Arafat]].
*Tom Zarek's statement "I shaved very close this morning in preparation for getting smacked by you." to Laura Roslin is a direct quote from the 1970 movie ''Patton''.

== Noteworthy Dialogue ==

* ''Helo and Valerii have arrived in the vicinity of the Cylon base at Delphi, and the talk turns to the two women "helping" the Cylons:''
:'''Helo:''' (Standing as Valerii crouches with her back to him, getting some food) I'm trying to make sense out of two women we saw with the Cylons.
:'''Sharon Valeri:''' (keeping her back to him) And?
:'''Helo:''' I can't fathom why anybody would want to help the toasters...and they just happen to be twins? It's too weird.
:'''Sharon Valeri:''' You got a better explanation?
:'''Helo:''' Do you think the Cylons could be messing with human DNA? (Valerii reacts, mouth opening as she looks away). Cloning people or something?
:'''Sharon Valeri:''' (gathering herself and looking over her shoulder at Helo) Could be.
:'''Helo:''' (nodding and crouching) That would explain how they took us by surprise. They had these...replicated humans infiltrating the colonies, laying the groundwork for the surprise attack.
:'''Sharon Valeri:''' (pausing, as if considering this) You know, if they were human clones, that means they're capable of...complex emotions - maybe even love. Maybe they were misguided in the way they were indoctrinated...
:'''Helo:''' (interrupting) Whatever they are, they're not human! No human could do the things they've done - killed billions of innocent people (Valerii looks away, hurt)
:'''Helo:''' They've got to be frakking Cylons, just like the rest of them...

* ''Gaius Baltar is interviewed by [[The Colonial Gang]]:''
:'''[[James McManus]]:''' We're here with Dr. Gaius Baltar, representative of Caprica. Dr. Baltar, I have one question: is President Roslin's political career terminal, or is there hope of resuscitating it?
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' Laura Roslin's political career is very much alive, and to underestimate her would be a very serious mistake.
:'''Number Six:''' You miss the loud mic, don't you Gaius?
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' Yes, I have.
:'''James McManus:''' You have what, Dr. Baltar?
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' Nothing. You were saying?
:'''James McManus:''' Yes. So you seriously believe that this schoolteacher is able to handle the job of presidency?
:'''Gaius Baltar:''' Well I'm glad to hear it, because I think all of us have had teachers who have made a profound impact on our lives. History is full of examples of leaders who have come from the most humble beginnings, and have risen to meet the challenge posed by cataclysmic events. It's very easy to be sitting there in your armchairs ... criticize Laura Roslin for the tough decisions that she has to make every day - especially if you're someone like Tom Zarek, who's never shouldered any real responsibility in your life. To be fair to Tom, how could he? He's been in prison for the last twenty years. Now that he's had a drastic personality makeover, he's posing like he's the savior to all your ills! I think you all have a short memory, really. ... What I have to say is, we must survive, and we will survive. And we will do so through the values that have made our colonies great: courage, truth, justice, liberty, with a firm and deep resolve to make tomorrow better, not just for ourselves, but for our children.

* ''Baltar and Six discuss jealousy and women, prompted by [[Playa Palacios]]'s behavior:''
: '''Gaius Baltar''': She's only human. (notes Six's reaction) You're not jealous?
: '''Number Six''': Love isn't about sex, Gaius.
: '''Gaius Baltar''': Now there's an enlightened point of view.
: '''Number Six''': I've been thinking... and as far as I'm concerned, you can have any woman you want. But always remember, I have your heart.
: '''Gaius Baltar''': Yes, of course you do.
: '''Number Six''': (deadly serious) I can always rip it out of your chest if I need to.
: '''Gaius Baltar''': (coughs, as if in reaction to a pain in his chest)

== Official Statements ==

{{from_RDM_blog}}

* ''"I'm part of the nitpick brigade, but since the Colonies are obviously modeled after the US system of government, right down to the line of succession, are legislative and judicial branches? If so what are they called and will we see any manifestation of either branch take shape as series progresses?"''

:In Episode 11, "Colonial Day" we'll see the reinstatement of the [[Quorum of Twelve]], a political body established in the [[Battlestar Galactica (TOS)|original series]], which seems to be a cross between a US style Senate and the UN Security Council, where each Colony has a single vote. Presumably there was also a larger representative legislative body and some kind of separate judiciary. There is also a religious body, (unnamed thus far) that acts in some advisory capacity to the government, along the lines of the British House of Lords. Although we haven't dealt with it yet, [[Elosha]] was probably a member of this body.
