Friday Air - Server Idea Fix
Ok... this is my idea. Three hours before the episode, we sysop protect this page. Once the episode is aired/finshed on it's first round 9pm to 10pm, we unlock it. What this will do is keep the server queries down on the server before the mad rush. Talking with steelviper about this, he suggested we have three sub-pages off the episode guide, Summary, Questions, and Anylsis for people to work on during the episode. This will keep the conflicts down and the server in tip top shape. Before we unlock the main episode page.... we as sysops (Mop boys) would transfer the information from these pages to the guide and then kill the subpages. We need a currently airing template to help with the links, but it be a start to keeping the server smooth after an episode airs. --Shane (T - C - E) 11:31, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
:Part of me worries about locking users out, especially while the episode is airing. That might be confusing, and that's bound to be a peak time of contribution. On the other hand, if users can't access the page to begin with, then we're not in any better a position. If having subpages allows people to continue to contribute real-time with the episode, and with transclusions allowing the changes to be visible real-time, it might be a way to allow people the thrill of striking while the iron is hot without crushing the server. --Steelviper 11:36, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
Clues
I didn't tape the episode, but maybe someone who did might be able to tell...what rank insignia was Lee wearing when he met his father? --Dallan007 02:37, 28 October 2006 (CDT)Dallan007
:It's obscured by a fold in Lee's uniform for a lot of the scene (he should really get on to his tailor about bringing in his uniform, since he's losing weight), but it looks like Commander rank insignia. It's definitely no less than Colonel (the circle in the centre is quite distinct). --Barry 05:48, 28 October 2006 (CDT)
::Yeah, I agree, it definitely appears to be a Commander's insignia. There's a distinct section behind the diamond with the colonial seal, ie the silver plate we see on the Commander pin. ==Nth Exodus==
I've removed speculation along these lines several times now, as I find it completely absurd and unworthy of note:
:More likely, the "First Exodus" was from Kobol, as the current population didn't escape the Colonies so much as be in transit during their destruction.
However, other contributors seem intent on adding it back each time. I really don't think this is a reasonable line of speculation, but I'll stop deleting comments like this if other users think I should. --Peter Farago 16:57, 29 October 2006 (CST)
::Maybe it's a bit peculiar that they don't include the exodus from Kobol into their count, but I think it's clear that the first one is the original flight from the Twelve Colonies. Excluding that one would more weirder than exluding the Kobol one, which is 2000 years in the past after all and outside of everyone's experience --Serenity 17:02, 29 October 2006 (CST)
:::The real indicator would be what their former dating system was based on. If they reset their year at the fall of the Colonies, then that would be the first Exodus, while if they kept counting from the escape from Kobol, then we could assume that would be the first Exodus. I don't recall them mentioning any hard dates before, though. --Larrik
::::No, all we get are "Karl C. Agathon, Nth day on Caprica" during the first season, and a "189 days ago" in "Epiphanies". --Peter Farago 20:01, 29 October 2006 (CST)

: I honestly think there is a problem with the flight from New Caprica being called the "Second Exodus", seeing as there are two exoduses before it: the one from Kobol and the one from the Colonies. I think this issue should be noted, because it raises a few questions. Also, we should probably ask this at BW:OC to see what is up. Thoughts anyone? -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 21:27, 29 October 2006 (CST)
::I think it's pretty straightforward - the Exodus from Kobol was thousands of years ago, and is basically mythology in everyone's mind. If we had two catastrophic floods in a row, would we call them the Second Flood and the Third Flood in deference to the story of Noah's ark? --Peter Farago 23:50, 29 October 2006 (CST)
:::That's basically what I meant above. Kobol is too far in the past for them to be of any real concern to the present --Serenity 03:23, 30 October 2006 (CST)
::::Also consider this... when the humans left Kobal millenia ago, it could have been termed the 'diaspora' (i.e. the movement, migration, or scattering of a people away from an established or ancestral homeland according to Merriam-Webster). 'Exodus' is defined as a mass migration from the same resource, sure the same thing basically but I think 'diaspora' suits the departure from Kobol more, whereas 'exodus' from Caprica and New Caprica is appropriate for the situation. ==Chadwick the collaborator==
Chadwick is the woman whose case the Circle debates about halfway through the episode. We see Chadwick's face in a photo but the character is never seen "live." Barolay says that their men on the Monarch will take care of the punishment. Presumably Chadwick was killed. Does anybody recognize the actor in the photo? Or is it an actor at all? Since no acting ability is necessary for just a single photo, it could be a friend of one of the producers or writers. Maybe even Ronald Moore's wife or David Eick's. Anyone know if this is the case? == Where is the fleet headed? ==

All the way back in Home, Part II several major characters finally figured out roughly where in space Earth was.

So, is The Fleet headed for Earth or not? Why doesn't Adama just start jumping away in the general direction of Earth? Not a straight line, of course, and slowly enough not to risk damaging FTL drives. But it seems so obvious that getting away from the Cylons should be a top priority. Yet episode after episode goes by without any word, even in passing, that The Fleet is headed towards Earth or anywhere else in particular. Why is that? It might be neat if the route to Earth took The Fleet back the way they came...

I understand this might not really be Reference desk material, but I'm having trouble finding a better place to ask. Also, this question is asked between the (first showing of the) episodes Sacrifice and The Captain's Hand, so may be answered later.

Personally, at the end of the entire series I'd have The Fleet finally reach Earth and discover ... Earth was where the Cylons spent the 40 years between the two wars. Who says we need a happy ending? --JohnH 17:42, 15 February 2006 (EST)
:Interesting idea, but the Colonials know where the Cylon homeworld is. --Redwall 18:29, 15 February 2006 (EST)

:A) Earth is far away from the Twelve Colonies, but apparently the Cylon homeworld is relatively nearby; the Colonials know where it is, etc.
:B) We saw a script read-through in David Eick's video blog for "The Captain's Hand" (which will air naught but two days from now), and in it Jamie Bamber (Apollo) is reading through dialog about them running searches and trying to triangulate stellar coordinates based based around the Lagoon Nebula, etc. Yes, this will be adressed in the very next episode. --The Merovingian 20:21, 15 February 2006 (EST)

: One of the plot points from Galactica 1980 was that the Fleet might find Earth only to discover Earth was woefully unprepared to handle the Cylons. Some of the same thought might be playing out here. The Colonials have no certain way to know Earth's technology level or military footing. Even if Earth is at a similar or more advanced technological level to the Colonies, simply waltzing into our solar system and saying, "Hi! We're your lost cousins and, oh, by the way, there's a ravening horde of synthetic people on our tails and they'll probably hate you just as much as they hate us, so...um...help?" probably wouldn't go over very well. I also don't recall anything being said (even after Earth stopped being just something Adama made up to give them all hope) about looking for Earth to help them out. They need to lose the Cylons first. That seems to be the priority (at least, up until Lay Down Your Burdens, Part II, where it looks like the stakes will be changing a bit).--Uncle Mikey 17:08, 9 March 2006 (CST)
Hi There,

Can someone tell me what is the signification of "Lay down your burdens" in the context of this episode of Galactica?

Thank you very much,
:I believe this quote comes into play towards the end, when one of the characters (maybe Roslin's aide?) mentions how tempting the thought is of being able to "Lay down your burdens" and stop running from the Cylons by settling permanently at the habitable planet. (A quick Google shows that it's also apparently the title of an Amy Grant song, but hopefully that's just a coincidence.) --Steelviper 15:33, 9 March 2006 (CST)
Battlestar Galactica Magazine Discontinued?
Hello, just wondering if you know why the Battlestar Galactica Magazine is being discontinued by Titan Magazines after just seven issues. I'm hoping that it's not be due to low readership or something and thought you might know why. It's got great articles and insights to the series and I love it just as much as I love this wiki site and the various blogs and other websites I visit daily for my BSG fix. Great job on this site by the way. Sorry, I'm rambling. Avidicus -- Avidicus 04:17, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
