: For information on the Centurions from the Original Series, see Centurion (TOS).

The basic footsoldier of Cylon ground forces, the Cylon Centurion appears to represent a significant (if not radical) evolution of the Cylon Centurion Model 0005.

Unlike the Model 0005, a single Centurion is more than enough to terrorize a squad of Colonial fighters. They have long, talon-like fingers with multiple joints and a double-barreled automatic projectile weapon mounted on the end of each arm. These make counterattacks by Colonials very difficult since they are effectively machine guns. In addition, their fingers can be used as bladed close-combat weapons. They are also capable of fielding larger, more powerful weapons not built into them, such as mortars and missile batteries.

These newer, fiercer Centurions are also more agile than their predecessors, capable of extremely fast bipedal locomotion and jumping over obstacles.

It is unknown whether the Centurions can "speak". It is probable that they communicate with each other via wireless network, making verbal speech unnecessary. They can hear and respond to verbal commands from their leaders, the humanoid Cylons (Hero).

Some versions of the Centurion wield markedly improved armor. For instance, a small number of Centurions wreak havoc after boarding Galactica and are destroyed only by explosive rounds (Valley of Darkness).

The Centurions that Helo encounters on Caprica react more slowly, act less intelligently, and are more easily destroyed by small-arms fire. This may be due to the Cylons' reproduction plans for Helo and Caprica-Valerii; killing him would render their experiment worthless.

Centurions seen on Kobol, on the other hand, display an increased group intelligence, working together to construct an anti-aircraft battery out of parts of their Heavy Raider (Fragged).

On New Caprica, the Centurions serve a variety of functions, such as guards, soldiers and executioners.

While primarily mechanical, as opposed to the biomechanical Raiders and basestars, it has been hinted by humanoids during a discussion of the viral infection that the Centurions have at least some biomechanical components. Their adverse reaction to the virus, however, could also be a result of the wireless link to the Hybrid, as a Number Three states that the Centurions started shutting down as soon as the ship's Hybrid became infected (Torn).

The Centurions are not sentient by design, making them rely solely on programming. This was done (according to Sharon Agathon) to prevent another rebellion similar to the one the original Cylons orchestrated against the Colonies. The Centurions are programmed not to harm any of the "Significant Seven" humanoid Cylon models (except by explicit order) and cannot distinguish one copy from another (Precipice). As with the Seven humanoids, the identities of the "Final Five" Cylons are not known to Centurions, as several soldiers have fired on these people before, notably Samuel Anders.

"Bullethead", "clanker" and "chrome job" are common Colonial nicknames for these advanced and deadly Cylon constructs ("Downloaded", "Rapture", Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance).

Cinematic Notes
The creators of the Re-imagined Series decided that using actors in an elaborate Cylon robot outfit (as was done in the Original Series) would detract from the realism of the series. They decided to make fully computer-generated Cylon Centurions for the new series.

Inaugural director Michael Rymer wanted the new Cylon warrior to blend in and avoid detracting from the live actor's performances. However, the new designs were eye-catching, and the new robot became a popular addition to many scenes. The virtual Cylons are designed with full articulation in the hands and joints that gives a realistic appearance to the viewer. Initially the new warrior was built with more human movement, such as swaggering. However, the movements did not fit the robotic attitude that the writers wanted to convey and were later discarded.

Actors interact with a life-size cardboard stand-in when filming a scene that will later have virtual Cylon warriors inserted. Some times human actors (production assistants in reality) stand in for the CG Centurions in more complex shots. As revealed in a Video Blog entry on Sci Fi Channel's Galactica website, stand-ins portraying Centurions are made to wear thick black vests with the word CENTURION printed across them. Much like the cardboard stand-ins the "actors" are then digitally painted out of the shot and replaced with virtual Centurions.
:The numbering is caused by the ref tags and done automatically. It depends on the order of the references. If you insert a reference somewhere inbetween, the others after it will change, so you can't really influence it the way you want. But there is no need to worry about it, as the exact number of a reference doesn't really matter. Just that it has one. --Serenity 18:18, 9 July 2007 (CDT)

Um, why am I no longer a wikipedian? Durandal 08:33, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
:Because we decided that we are not really Wikipedians and so the category was changed to "Galactipedian". That happened in June already. ::Duly noted. Meanwhile, as I happen to be (at least in theory) a wikipedian and a galactipedian, I will be re-adding the former. As a side note, it might be a good idea to acutally use the summary field in such cases, as it cuts down on the "HUH?" moments... TheEverRampant Durandal 08:40, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
:::Yeah, but it wasn't just you I changed as Special:Recentchanges shows. So not making an edit summary for all was just laziness :(
:::I understand that you might see yourself as a Wikipedian in the sense as being on the actual Wikipedia, but that's not really what the category was about. It was just users of this wiki and merely used the Wikipedia name. I deleted the category, but I can restore without all the sub categories, so people who think they are true Wikipedians can use it. --Serenity 08:45, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
:::: Laziness gets the best of all of us at times.... meh. Meanwhile, the whole reason I ever added that tag was because I thought that was what that catagory was about. Durandal 08:56, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
:::::Well, there was at least one other person who likes the idea of all wikis falling under the "Wikipedia" header. I won't restore all the sub categories, so it's no hassle. That there is some confusion about its meaning just shows that doing something about it was a good idea. And while some people are also Wikipedia editors, not all who added the category are. The intended meaning was more "Battlestar Wiki users". --Serenity 09:03, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
Bots and MediaWiki API
I saw your comments regarding edit tokens at MW:API and thought you may be interested in the SimpleForms extension which already has the ability to update and create articles from the HTTP request parameters. It doesn't implement edit tokens yet, but does allow you to lock it down so that requests are only allowed from the localhost which means your server-side scripts can update articles and is much easier to implement than a bot. If you prefer bots we have some Perl code for accessing wikis at http://www.organicdesign.co.nz/wiki.pl and there are libs like PyWikiBot. See also Wikipedia:Creating a bot. --Nad 21:28, 23 June 2007 (CDT)
:We're breaking edit tokens and the like in the API right now. I already have a working action=rollback implementation supporting edit tokens, and am currently working on action=delete. Generally though, I think we try to link directly to correct sites and not use redirect links even if they are easier. You did with Galactica vs Galactica (RDM) for example. --Serenity 05:59, 2 July 2007 (CDT)
:The point here is that we can be fairly sure that Galactica (RDM) will always end up linking to the right page, no matter what crazy stunts we decide to pull. Galactica may not redirect there forever. Hi! Glad you're back. I noticed that on your edits today, regarding quotes, you've been changing many one-line quotes so that a rank and the name of the character appear first. However, that does not match these standards. I guess in hindsight I should have been doing 800/mile, but the 1/4 miles definitely "build character". Especially those last 100 yards. Ugh. --Steelviper 15:23, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
:::1/4 mile in 60-odd seconds? I envy you :P I did it three times and ran 80-odd every time, with pretty good splits each time (and one inverse split :O). But then I'm not much of a sprinter or a runner, I much prefer biking (never biked more than 21 miles in one go though, but I intend to change that). --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 15:52, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
::::Cycling is cool. I'm definitely a runner with a bike, though, and not a cyclist. When I see a hill on foot, I grin and drive harder into it. When I see a hill on bike, I despair (and change gears). I know it's mental, but I'm not sure whether I'll put in enough bike time to overcome that.
::::I was doing a duathlon last summer and smoked a guy in a cycling team kit in the opening run... only to watch him lap me a couple of times before the bike course was complete. But that's... ok. --Steelviper 17:31, 16 August 2007 (CDT)
:::::I'm not really much of a hill biker (there are hardly any hills where I live), but more the type that drives 13 or 14 (depending on wind conditions) mph for an hour and a half straight (never tried longer, also got school to think about :P). I think hills would kill me, though, as they force you to change your speed every 10 minutes, which I probably wouldn't handle very well. The one hill that I do find on my way (a viaduct crossing the highway) I bite through in the same gear as much as possible, but I doubt I could do that with multiple, real, hills. --Catrope(Talk to me or e-mail me) 05:52, 17 August 2007 (CDT)

This project deals with converting articles from the Battlestar Wiki into other languages and how to accomplish that task.

Overview
Presently, all of the content on this wiki is in english — American english, to be specific. We have people who view this Wiki from other countries, as far away as Europe and Asia. And likely further.

Therefore, this is a formal effort to recruit mutlilingual contributors and organize these contributors to translate our documents in other languages. Once there is enough translations of a particular translation, the Battlestar Wiki, as a group, will sit down and see if there is cause enough for a full language site with the "battlestarwiki.org" domain name.

Currently we have these sub-language projects with there status.
{|class="messagebox" style="width:100%" cellspacing="2" cellpadding="2" align="center"

Every language starts out with at least two sysops approved by the English administrators. Afterwards the wiki must hold their own RFA hearings.

If you want to help out with any or all of these language wikis, please goto those sites. Keep in mind that you will have to refer to this Wiki for policy questions.

__FORCETOC__

How to Begin
To begin, create a subpage of the article you wish to translate. For instance, let's say you were going to tackle the article on The Fleet and translate it into Spanish. Here's how you would begin:

* In the search box, type in:
*: The Fleet/es:La Flota
* Press "Go". Select "create this article" option.
* Begin translating the article. Once done, list the article on this page under Articles Translated.

Once there are a growing number of articles, Joe or Shane will then set up an individual BSG Wiki for that language. (i.e. de.battlestarwiki.org for German BSG Wiki, et al.). Never, ever, place interwiki links on these subpages.

Articles Needing Translation
Obviously our eventual goal is to have just about everything translated. Rather than listing every page here, this can be used to request critical pages for translators to focus on.

These three should be the first ones done.
* Battlestar Wiki:Spoiler Policy - All languages.
* Battlestar Wiki:Standards and Conventions - All languages.
* Battlestar Wiki:Citation Jihad - All languages.

There are others to be translated as well that need to be translated before you can even get your own-wiki. Please take a look at the list here. If you can prove that you can deicated a full force of at least 5-10 people to translating all the required information, we will create a language wiki without question and import all your work to the language wiki.

It is suggested you start from the oldest episodes and articles first before you more to articles that always under going edits.

There are standards and conventions for translating. Please read this before doing anything.

Who is admin of these wikis during setup?
Joe and Shane will be the two overall admins (B-crats, Sysop, checkuser), but you would have to decided as a group who will represent your language.

Language Specific Spoiler Checkpoints
Feel free to adjust the title of this section.
This section is intended to be a handy place to keep track of how far the series has progressed in the particular languages, in order to avoid translating spoiler content over from the English side. Only languages that are translating in conjunction with the English Wiki are listed here.

Contributors
Contributors to this project may be added here. Please include the languages you would be interested in translating our documents to, as well as your level of expertise in said language.
