:I think most was dropped during rewrites before it was shot, but as you see there are some pieces of it left, that still work. For example Ishay is obviously shocked at what they do. Though if I recall correctly, the Sagittaron thing could become part of Baltar's trial later. I'd have to listen to it again. == Baltar = Saddam ==

That was my character and visual connection.

Just a few other personal observations... The writing is hitting a new level. The last couple have seemed more sophisticated to me. One reason might be that the writers are catching the characters up on all the facts that the viewers have known for some time. The humans don't come off quite as clueless as they used to. Also, I assume that drastic time jumps are usually avoided due to fear that the viewer won't be able to keep up, but I've noticed that this episode skips over long exposition to get to the torture scenes and the finale of Rapture, the "rescue" from the planet's surface and the supernova, was all montage -- totally unusual but consistent with the stronger focus on characters.
:She was frakkin scary. :) --Galactageek 01:05, 30 January 2007 (CST)
::We have NEVER seen her yell like that. I realized she and Tigh were playing the "bad cop, evil cop" scenario, knowing that this is not her normal thing. And I've never seen the characters so dark. She looked like she was practically orgasmic when Adama suggested the use of drugs on Baltar --and that he had a stash of the stuff. Wild and crazy acting. --Spencerian 07:27, 30 January 2007 (CST)
:::Yet, we also see that it took a lot out of her. She's probably needed a good, cathartic screaming match for a very long time, but catharsis is an emotionally-exhausting experience. At the same time, she feels like she went through all of that for nothing, she failed. So, when Adama mentions a possible second option, she's filled with a new hope. Those subtle moments are what makes this show so great; look at the exchange of looks between Ellen and Saul as Saul realizes that Ellen knows the drink is poisoned. Absolutely brilliant. --Slander 11:51, 30 January 2007 (CST)
:McDonnell's performance in this episode came as a total surprise to me, since we're used to a calm Roslin who prefers the carrot over the stick, so to say. Did anyone think the interrogation was beyond sane? I mean totally ridiculous and insane line of questions. I was wondering in every part Roslin interrogated Baltar, "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ACCOMPLISHING?!" It was killing me. Seemed totally useless until Adama stepped in. Comparing Roslin's interrogation tactics to Kara's, I would say that Starbuck would have done a better job. All that came out of Mary McDonnell's character, at least in my view, was that she can totally lose her rationale over a person. I would find character growth if she finds a different means of interrogation with Caprica Six that doesn't go the same way for Leoben or Baltar. --AJFederation 16:11, 2 February 2007 (CST)
Booze Supply
Given the shortages of damn near everything else, alcohol certainly seems to be in generous supply. I'll grant that they had plenty of time to brew (and the natural resources to do so) while on New Caprica, and that heavy drinking seems to be the post-Holocaust pastime of choice. I'd really like to see the show exploring where the Fleet is getting its supplies from, though. Maybe there's a brewmaster out in the civilians who didn't have the time or resources to put his skills to use until New Caprica. Maybe Tyrol inspired a few dozen crew members to operate distilleries of their own. All I really know is that booze flows like water on Galactica and I'd like to hoist a shot at Joe's. Let's just hope that Viper chassis doesn't come loose during a battle. --Slander 14:53, 30 January 2007 (CST)
:If you can eat, you can ferment what you eat, thus the alcohol supply. You can metabolize alcohol, which was likely the last rations that some might have touched in the food shortage. What the local distilleries look like throughout the fleet are probably a sight to behold. Oh, and keep in mind there were probably large freighters carrying tons of this stuff in commerce between Colonies, among other things.
:::Well. Remember that the war lasted for about 12 years (the Articles of Colonization were signed 52 years ago, which Moore says is coincident with the outbreak of hostilities, the war explicitly ended 40 years ago). If we guess that the age to enlist in the colonial military is 18, and Adama enlisted at the start, that would make him at most 70. If Tigh enlisted in the war's last year, that would make him at least 58.

:::Beyond that, I'm not sure what we can say with much certainty. --Peter Farago 05:26, 28 October 2005 (EDT)

:::: It might be asserted that joinin' age is lower in the Colonies. Is it not 16 in some European nations? I could be wrong. Of course, heck, the lifespans of Colonials could be vastly different from ours. They drive space ships routinely. They have FLT drives. Surely they have some medical technologies that we don't. Maybe they just live longer. This has no basis whatsoever on anything seen on screen, but it's possible, which means that any guesses we make of age based on the actors' appearences is fairly irrelevant. Of course... 70 would be about right for retiring, wouldn't it? But if Tigh is older, why hadn't he retired already? Or was Adama getting an early retirement? In which case, is 70 an early retirement? That might speak to Colonial life expectancy. Anyway... most of that is just rambling. --Day 14:23, 28 October 2005 (EDT)

:::::Colonial military age is up to debate as Day stated, but we don't have to guess about when Adama joined the military. Moore also said in the same commentary I already referenced that he joined as a pilot in the last days of the war, which we <i>can</i> say with certainty was approximately 40 years ago. Tigh was also specifically said to have been slightly older than, and had seen more combat than Adama. Adding all of this together, we still come to the conclusion that both of them are most likely in their 60s. 10 years is a pretty safe margin of error. --Palpatine 02:09, 29 October 2005 (EDT)

::::::I'll have to double check that. It seems odd for Saul to refer to Bill as "the old man" if he's not at least a few years younger. Another interesting question - in our military, there's usually a provision for forced retirement if you get passed over for promotion for enough years. My main problem with age (per recent edits) is the lack of consistency between bios. We may be able to get Tigh's down to within a few years, but it's still awfully sloppy, and other pages aren't much better. My edits were based on this thread (now that Peter located it for me). According to a deleted scene on the season 2 dvds, Tigh was a petty officer, an assistant gunner's mate, and still a teenager when his ship got boarded. This took place very early in the war and Tigh was still a teenager (more like Cally in age than Tyrol). Also, in the last week of the war, Adama was serving on the Galactica when it was boarded and the Cylons used the same tactics as in Valley of Darkness. Adama told Tigh what happened over a drink and this is how Tigh knew what was happening. In the boarding he was in, he was assigned to guard the ship's magazines. I'll add stuff to the main page later, just wanted to get y'alls opinion on this. It's late.--Talos 00:53, 27 December 2005 (EST)

:I changed the character bio photo for consistency with many of the character bios elsewhere that started to use their promo pics. This was completely arbitrary, so if the collective says to use another picture, please do so. I think I was also trying to save it from the Island of Misfit Images, I think. --Spencerian 21:01, 23 January 2006 (EST)
::: I think consistancy is well and good, but I think consistantly cool photos are better than consistantly "promo" photos.
::::I concur. Consistantly cool is better than consistantly "promo". Although, in the name of consistancy I wonder if it might be a good idea to establish guidelines on the type of shots we're looking for (on the character project maybe?). Personally, I look for a good 8x10 head and shoulders shot that's at least two hundred pixels wide, that doesn't have any other characters significantly in the shot (to avoid confusion). While a promo standard could be established ("use the promo shot if you've got it"), I think the show is capable of producing shots that are more representative of "the character", and cooler. Also, a character shot that illustrates/represents something in the bio or description might have more value than "actor posing for a promo shot". The promo shots can look a look a lot more polished sometimes, but with the advent of the DVD release and some of the high-resolution captures that are taken today, I think they may be obsolete. --Steelviper 12:53, 24 January 2006 (EST)
Call Sign
I don't know if it is just being skipped over or because it has never been mentioned, but since he did have a run as a Viper Pilot there seems to be no call sign for it. Does anyone know if there is information available as to his call sign? I question this because he is the only person known as a viper pilot who does not have their call sign name. I would recommend that it be added in the sub-profile "Call Sign: Unknown." Even Admiral Adama has his displayed. If you are an avid fan, this show will drive you up the wall. Shots out sequences, incorrect narration trying to help the new viewer understand will have you shaking your head going "NO.. NO!" ;-) --FrankieG 20:55, 14 August 2006 (CDT)
:Not so much a problem, even for an avid fan. As long as you took into consideration this is a recap for a new audience, it's farely well done. It misses a few things that I believe were more key than others. Such as recapping A LOT of Downloaded where it could have easily had a 15 second short piece and move on to how it connects to the end. Should have takn more focus on the military coup, and near all-out war with Pegasus. The miniseries can literally be explained visually and narrated in 2 minutes! Not until the first commercial break. In all reality, this is something for new fans or people that haven't seen the entire show to get into watching the third season. --AJFederation 13:59, 17 August 2006 (CDT)

Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far is a one-hour recap special of the first 2 seasons of Battlestar Galactica, to be aired repeatedly in August/September 2006 leading up to Season 3. The special will summarize "the story so far" for prospective new viewers, as narrated by Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell).

On the evening of August 13, 2006, NBC affliliates on the U.S. West Coast broadcast the special following the Cincinnati-Washington football game. As was to be expected with a program that tried to synopsize the two seasons of BSG, "The Story So Far" was a good primer for those who had never seen the show before but was glaring in terms of some of the events that were omitted. Gone was any mention of the arrival of the Battlestar Pegasus and Adama's conflict with Admiral Cain, the relationship between Chief Tyrol and Galactica-Sharon (though she was shown dying in his arms), and the conflict between civilian and military authority that led to the arrest of Roslin, the declaration of martial law and the temporary splitting of the fleet. Poor dead Billy Keikeya was never mentioned (how soon we forget!), even though he was an important supporting character for a season and a half.

But in fairness, balance is hard to achieve in a one-hour show. For instance, a recap of the miniseries took the first twenty minutes, the whole first season was over by the half-hour mark, and it seemed like most of jump-foward-one-year part of the Season Two finale was played intact. Also, scenes were generally shuffled around out of their normal timeline to explain important relationships.

The narration by "Laura Roslin" (Mary McDonnell in character) was low-key and strangely effective, though it will probably leave some people wondering who she was supposed to be talking to.

In the end, "Battlestar Galactica: The Story So Far" is clearly intended to draw new viewers to the series and offers little new for current followers.
Pivotal Plot Points
*In an interview with the Seattle Times, Ron Moore has confirmed that the first episode of season three will not take place immediately after the previous season finale (like "Scattered" did), but skip ahead a few more months to when the Cylon occupation is in full swing.
*According to an interview by Katee Sackhoff on Subject2Discussion.com on January 3rd, 2006, Starbuck's "missing ovaries" will be mentioned before Season 2 ends and be a pivotal theme to Season 3.
*At the official Xena 2006 Convention, Lucy Lawless stated that: "(They) turned around and asked her "Do you want to play God?" There is a character who sets herself up as God, and Lucy would likely play her. Her theory is that there's nowhere to go after playing Xena but to playing God! But none of this is a done deal, she cautions, because they're still working out the logistics". It is known, however, that Lawless will be in the first ten Season 3 episodes.
**When asked, Lawless later clarified that she will most likely be in 8 of them.
**This refers, of course, to the first half of the season. It's unknown how many episodes she will be in in the second half, if any, as they have yet to be planned.
*According to Ron D. Moore's podcast of the Captain's Hand, Apollo will continue to be the Commander of the Pegasus well into Season 3.
*There will be some flashbacks that deal with events that occured during the year that was skipped over in the season 2 finale. Caprica-Sharon is noticeably given no scenes in the "One Year Later" segment, and in the commentary for the episode Ron Moore said that the first episodes of Season 3 would deal with this. In addition, there will be flashbacks explaining how Dualla transfered to Pegasus to be with Apollo, but over time as more and more crewmen left, to the point that a skeleton crew was running the ship, she was left as the next highest ranking crewman on the ship and more or less his Executive Officer (although really, there's only about 3-4 people left including Apollo and Dualla even running the Pegasus CIC).
**There will actually be flashbacks explaining exactly why Apollo gained a lot of weight in the year that passed, why Starbuck and Tigh have mended fences now, and what happened that made Starbuck and Apollo angry at each other (apparently it was more than just her being insensitive when Anders came to Galactica, possibly something more specific than him simply being frustrated that they got married). Lee will stay overweight for about the first 5 episodes.
*In one brief shot at the end of the season 2 finale, Leoben Conoy arrives in Starbuck's tent and finds Anders and specifically asks where Kara Thrace is. Moore said that this is a major plot point, and will feature in the first three episodes of season three. It might have something to do with her missing ovaries, or it could have someting to do with the copy of Leoben encountered by Starbuck in the first season episode "Flesh and Bone".
*In an interview with NowPlayingMagazine on March 11, 2006, Ron Moore said "Essentially, season three is going to deal with the Cylon occupation of the Colonials on New Caprica. The sort of archetype that we’re talking about is like Vichy France: There’s a Colonial government run by President Baltar that is collaborating with the Cylons, while the humans put together an insurgent resistance against the occupation."
*Moore goes on to say that: Galactica and Pegasus will be trying to figure out a way to save everyone trapped on New Caprica.
*A major plotline is that there is going to be "an ongoing Cylon story where we’re going to be cutting over to the Cylon world for the first time and running a complete arc within the Cylons". This probably refers to the planned Lucy Lawless (Number Three) storyarc. It is unclear if by "Cylon world" Moore means the Cylon homeworld, or just a Basestar, Cylon-occupied planet, etc. citation needed
*The resistance against the Cylons and Baltar's collaborationist government on New Caprica will take three to five episodes, probably four. However, it will definately not take another seven episodes to wrap up the events of the season finale, as it did last time with "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part II". citation needed
*Not all of the Cylons may believe that Baltar is the Hand of God, "Guardian of the New Order", etc. citation needed
*Katee Sackhoff has said in several interviews that she has lost a fight with the producers to keep her long hair, and Starbuck's hair will become incredibly short in season 3. Sackhoff said her hair will be "somewhere between Sigourney Weaver in Alien (3) and the pilot (Miniseries)", and "Kind of...like Natalie Portman in "V for Vendetta" short". Sackhoff goes on to say that her character "goes through a lot of turmoil over the first four episodes, more so than we've ever seen her, the depth of despair that she finds herself in are pretty deep at the end of episode four, and she kind of re-establishes her commitment to the military in episode five which is the haircut" and "sort of like ritualistically, preparing herself to go back on the warpath". (Ron Moore has said that the characters would leave New Caprica by around episode 5, so Sackhoff is probably referring to the point when they leave and she rejoins the military).
**Sackhoff stated in a more recent interview on June 20th that she was able to make a compromise with Ron and David, and in season 3 she will not have a "V for Vendetta"-style crew cut, but instead the length of her hair will be shorter than it was at the beginning of Season 1 (i.e. in "33"), but longer than it was during the Miniseries.
*Sackhoff went on to say that "there is another man that comes into her life, and it is a very unlikely man that everyone is going to be so livid over", and which Sackhoff wasn't entirely happy about. She then said "It's Adama", but she appeared to be saying it jokingly to tease the fans. She was probably joking if she meant Admiral William Adama, while Lee "Apollo" Adama doesn't seem very "unlikely" a choice given their history.
*According to a blog by Ronald Moore, he states that the relationship between Helo and Boomer will continue, neither Boomer will be killed in Season 3, and a subplot early in Season 3 will involve an animal.
*Anders will be alive for at least 7 episodes of season 3, according to news from his website.
*In an interview with iFMagazine on May 11, 2006, David Eick said "I’m excited about the fact that we will be exploring the interior of a Cylon basestar, and that will include the introduction of the new type of Cylon. I’m excited about the fact that we’re going to have Lucy [Lawless] back. I think it’s going to be exciting for the fans to watch the opening trilogy of episodes, because we’re really falling into the rubric of something for everybody. There will be great philosophical crisis talking place with Baltar [James Callis]. There’s a round-up taking place of human beings becoming a police force, or a Gestapo, for the occupying Cylons. Then there’s an attempt at an escape that will be like THE GREAT ESCAPE, and be a dynamic action episode. There’s a lot of really rich stuff for the opening three. Beyond that point everything is embryonic, and still in development."
*In an interview, Tahmoh Penikett confirms that Helo is Galactica's XO at the beginning of Season 3.
*In Michael Ausiello's column in TV Guide (6/7/06), there is news of a Season Three trailer that was screened at the recent Battlestar Galactica discussion panel at the Museum of Television and Radio in New York. The trailer reportedly showed "one of the Sixes getting shot in the noggin" and "some guy ("Leobon Conoy") introducing a baby to Starbuck saying, 'This is your mother.'"
**To see a BattlestarWiki user's first hand report on the trailer from MTR, see this page.
*In an article in the June 2006 issue of Entertainment Weekly, Tricia Helfer said that one Cylon character will be permanently killed. This is probably Caprica-Six, who was seen shot in the trailer that was screened at MTR (though it is unclear who shoots her).
**According to David Eick in an article in TVGuide, the Cylons themselves will execute the Cylon that permanently dies: "The notion of execution is repulsive to the Cylons...to reach that point with one of their own is a monumental event." This could possibly refer to boxing (explained in "Downloaded"): the Cylons feel that they are ethically superior to humans, so they felt that "boxing" a Cylon's consciousness - leaving it in cold storage and never loading it into a new body - was better than execution, even though they're practically the same.
*According to an interview with Leah Cairns on June 27th, 2006, Racetrack is not trapped on New Caprica, but was on Galactica when it Jumped away with the Fleet. She mentions that Racetrack appears in episodes 8 and 9, meaning she survives at least that long.
*According to the May 11th, 2006 IF Magazine interview with David Eick, Dualla is indeed married to Lee Adama after the "one year later" leap forward in time. Previously there was only speculation about this fact based on what seemed to be Dualla playing with a ring on her wedding finger during her scene on the Pegasus bridge during the season finale.
*At a convention appearance, Jamie Bamber said that we will find out in flashbacks what happened between Apollo and Starbuck that caused a rift between them, in episode 8 "Unfinished Business". This will include a boxing scene in which Apollo and Starbuck beat the hell out of each other.
*An interview on July 13, 2006 with executive producer David Eick revealed much to come in season 3:
**Eick said that episode 8, "Hero, "involves a human POW who’s been trapped on the Cylon base ship for the last four years, and when we meet him we realize it’s a great homecoming for him because he was one of Adama’s pilots. But by the middle of the episode you realize the reason why this guy was taken prisoner was because Adama shot his ship down. And it becomes sort of an episode about why such a thing would have happened and how Adama begins to believe that on some level he might have been responsible for provoking the Cylon attack on the Twelve Colonies."
***Note: Season 3 will occur roughly 2 years after the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, so this past action by Adama occurred roughly 2 years before the Cylon attack. This corresponds with the dates that known humanoid Cylon infiltration of the Twelve Colonies commenced: Caprica-Six was in a relationship with Baltar since 2 years before the attack, and Adama said that Galactica-Sharon had been serving on his ship for 2 years.
**There will be a mid-season break between episodes 10 and 11. However it will not be as long as the hiatus between "Pegasus" and "Resurrection Ship, Part I": while that mid-season break lasted 4 months, this mid-season 3 break will last 1 month.
**Episodes 5 and 6 are a two-part story in which Galactica discovers a dying Cylon Baseship, and deals with a plague that has befallen the Cylons.
**Episode 8 will be a flashback episode dealing with events that transpired during the "One Year Later" time-jump. Grace Park has previously revealed the name of this flashback episode (though not the airing order) in another interview: its current title is "Unfinished Business".
**Episode 9 is not quite a standalone, not quite an arc episode: it sets up/leads into the mid-season finale in episode 10 (similar to how "Colonial Day" led up to "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part I" in Season 1, "Downloaded" led up to "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part I", and (to an extent) "Flight of the Phoenix" introduced elements for "Pegasus").
**The mid-season cliffhanger story, spanning episodes 10 and 11, will center on "discovering the next big clue on the road to Earth".
*A Season 3 teaser was shown during the premiere of Eureka on Sci-Fi Channel Tuesday, July 18.
**It was the same trailer screened at MTR on June 2nd, however there were noticeable tweaks.
*An official notice of Season Three was announced on SciFi Wire on March 9, 2006. Excerpt follows:

::SCI FI Channel announced that its hit original series 'Battlestar Galactica 'will return in October with a full 20-episode third season. Production on the third season begins in Vancouver, Canada, in April 2006.

From RDM's blog (March 26, 2006)
* Regarding William Adama and the reduction of the Colonial military:

: "What happened to Adama in the season finale to change him so much? Why would a man who spent decades of his adult life standing watch for the Cylon return suddenly give in and allow the military to stand down? How could he convince himself that the Cylons weren't coming back after 1 year when the last time they waited 40 years? He knew settlement was wrong so why didn't he offer any resistance? "

: I think people have a remarkable ability to convince themselves of just about anything. Adama, like everyone else in the fleet, had been constantly on the run, constantly under stress, and constantly in danger of losing his life for months on end, with virtually no break from the metal walls surrounding him day in and day out. When, finally, the people decided to end the long sojourn and settle on New Caprica, he had little choice but to comply with the results of a democratic election which hinged on that very question. And as the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, people began to relax, to believe that maybe they had really turned a corner, had really found a place to lay down their burdens and start a new life. Adama was just as vulnerable to that attractive idea as anyone else, and as the men and women under him began to clamor for a new life, as the political leadership of New Caprica began to demand more and more military resources to support the civilian population, there came the point where Adama began to believe in the mirage too. He's not perfect. He never was. He couldn't bring himself to leave his ship, but as age and fatigue began to set in, he started to let down his guard just a little -- not all at once and never completely, but just enough.

: There were also practical considerations. He was entirely alone out here. No Admiralty to call for reinforcements or intelligence, no Justice Ministry to prosecute soldiers who simply never came back from the surface of New Caprica, and no friendly ear in the office of the president to get needed resources for the military ships maintaining their lonely vigil up in orbit. He was alone and he was tired. It's almost as simple as that.

: I remember one of my most vivid memories from the immediate post 9/11 period was opening up the newspaper and reading about a physical confrontation in the streets between members of the New York police department and the New York fire department. It was heartbreaking, it was infuriating and it was illuminating. People are people. Enormous events happen, history pivots around us and we tell ourselves that everything has changed, that we're irrevocably different from this day forward -- until the next time everything changes. Adama made a mistake. They all did. And as he is wont to say, they will all have to live with it.

* Concerning Lee Adama's changes:

: "What is up with the pudgified Apollo? Too much chunky munky B&J?"

: We're going to hint at some of the reasons for Lee's physical, er... changes in the first few episodes, then deal with it in more detail later. Overall, we're going to be hinting at a lot of things that happened in the intervening year over the first few episodes, then do more stuff with it later, as the season progresses.

* Regarding Saul Tigh's role in season three:

: Anyway, I think you'll be happy to know that we've got some real meaty stuff planned for the Colonel in the first few episodes. I also felt that we didn't use Tigh as effectively in the later part of Season Two, and I was eager to get him back into the thick of things. He's got a sizable role in the initial episodes, and there are some enormous changes and shocks coming for his character next season.

* Regarding the role of Tom Zarek:

: "What happened to Zarek? Given his help getting Baltar elected, I would have expected him to have recieved a pretty nice 'reward', perhaps as VP? Did Baltar even have a VP? We never see Zarek post-election or a year later on New Caprica. Given Zarak's penchant for political mayhem, I would think that his fate would be one of significant interest. Perhaps we will see this early in Season 3? "

:You will be seeing Zarek again and early in the season. He was the Vice President, but his relationship with Baltar went south relatively quickly, and he simply refused to cooperate once the Cylon occupation began.
Friends...
What does another site have to do, really, to get on our little "Friends" list? I just wondered if there were any rules or... what? I thought, since we link Memory Alpha, that it might be appropriate to link the Wookieepedia, seeing as how it's another huge Wiki about a popular SciFi universe (or Space Opera, but let's not split hairs). Anyway... What's the story? --Day (Talk - Admin) 00:03, 31 May 2006 (CDT)
:Well.. I created the "friends" section to hightlight sites that have a lot of common elements to each other. Gateworld - Learn about most BSG News Here. MA - A lot of the Actors/Crew have down work in Star Trek and BSG is compared to Star Trek. Wikipedia - Has large sections of just everything. inlcuding the templates, and styles we use on the site. This is my unoffical policy of the friends section bear in mind. I wouldn't just put any old site on this section unless if it did had a significant impact on the subject matter at hand. I don't see alot of Star Wars references in this Wiki. That's why I would not put that site in this section. Plus we have a thing with gateworldphoto and I think Joe is talking or might soon be talking with memoryalphaphoto. We use alot of the same common images. --Shane (T - C - E) 00:21, 31 May 2006 (CDT)
Did you know...
So I was thinking of adding a "Did You Know..." section under the "Airdates" section (if for no other reason than that space is not used), but I couldn't figure it out. I have some ides for Did You Know...s, so if someone else has already started working on this, lemme know. Just while I'm thinking of it, I'll post what's in my head now right here. Otherwise I'll forget.

::Did You Know...
::*...that Samuel Anders' last name is derived from the Greek word for "Man"?
::I still like the idea of "did you know" on the front page. I can add it to the main page project. Under what section is the question. With the news being so long it is really tough. Right now I am working on the cite.php file to see if I can place the refernces in another area (new section on the front page - also see current design) so they would not interfere with the disuption of the news elements with the left side coloum. Can we please include the new Region 4 release set for 16 August 2006 for Australia . This is an Australian Store. I have made several edits in the Mini series and Season 1 DVD set to include the Region 2, 4, and 5. Im unsure that it includes all episodes, but i would assume it would be the case as for it being Season 2 not Season 2.0, and having a price tag of AU$80 and of course being released after the full season 2 was aired. --Lgamser 23:35, 13 June 2006 (CDT)
Proposal to Open Wiki to Unregistered Users
I think the time has come, or close to it to re-open the Wiki to all users without the need to register. We have the tools, the policy, the people, to support a full time 24/7 operation of keeping the wiki in check. We also have the most imporatnat policy BW:PRO (in progress) for information to be keeped sucure. With the summer starting and October coming up quickly and the new found acess to the BW:OC page, it would be nice to see some other contribuations from real outsiders.

I don't know if this should be done right away, but we need some sort of guidelines worked on in BW:PRO and possaibliy BW:IP and we would need BW:PRI up and voted on. --Shane (T - C - E) 14:04, 23 June 2006 (CDT)

:The problem, as Joe and others (before Joe created admin status to the wiki last fall) can vouch, involves zombie PCs that are used to spam the wiki by anonymous editing. Spammers don't adhere to policy, and nothing we write will keep a spammer from making a mess of things. We were hit a lot last summer by this problem until Joe restricted anonymous editing. Spammers still get on, but now they have to make a more concerted effort, and it appears its hardly worth their time. The latest MediaWiki update might have further flummoxed them, as well. I'm for requiring registered users; IPs are too anonymous, and I want to credit or blame someone for changes, as well as not have some yahoo wreck months of everyone's work. We really aren't on here 24/7, so I can't say that's an effective argument for reinstating this. We see quite a number of new users each week, and the rate increases when new episodes are in play, so I can't see how opening what is already an open wiki (registration needed) will do. --Spencerian 17:23, 23 June 2006 (CDT)

::We are 24/7. Usually when most of us are asleep Mercifull is online and same with Ford. Our Euorpe is base is growing. Protecting important pages BW:SAC and such can be protected. If people where giving the oppertunity to prove themself instead of admins & users hiding behind the curtain of signing up. I don't see alot of vandlism at the Memory Alpha wiki which has open editing. --Shane (T - C - E) 18:28, 23 June 2006 (CDT)

:::I've expressed before, in my 3rd Administratorsship election, that I think we would get more contributions if we switched back to allowing all people to contribute. As for spammers being a problem: MemoryAlpha (The Star Trek Wiki) is open content and they are able to police their wiki against these problems quite well. --The Merovingian (C - E) 19:09, 23 June 2006 (CDT)
Also, for the past few months I have noticed that some people's thoughts about the wookie have changed to the negative. I don't think we are really in an information-full time where we need to allow unregistered users edit pages and be allowed to vote in wiki decisions. --Sauron18 22:29 23 June (CDT)
:::::::::Personally, I don't fully agree with the idea that the more we open the wiki the more good contributors we'll get. Wikipedia, for instance, has a serious problem with anonymous IPs vandalizing Wikipedia with nonsense edits. (Sometimes they are minor and don't get caught for days, despite all the people that do RC patrol.) I'm more concerned with the quality of our editors and our articles than the quantity of either. If I may steal something that SV previously mentioned, we're scored on how well we do things, not on how timely they are. This doesn't mean that I'm not open for seeing whether or not we can relax some of the restrictions to editing, but before we just open the floodgates, we need to have a plan of action. Right now, it would be to our benefit to plan, seeing as this is our "downtime". -- Joe Beaudoin So say we all - Donate 17:18, 24 June 2006 (CDT)

* This was proposed a while ago, I think, but we realized that none of the decent reasons for having a forum could not also be served by things that already exist. The Wiki, itsself, provides an infrastructure for discussing editing, etc. There are plenty of fora for discussing the show in a non-Wiki setting (allowing for wide-ranging speculation without worrying that people might think you're proposing inclusion of your craziness in an artile) and ours would just be in competition with them. If you want to get to know your fellow contributers, many share their AIM screen names and/or email addresses, and for those that don't, you could always ask. I guess what I'm saying is that I think the idea is kind of needless. --Day (Talk - Admin) 22:40, 24 June 2006 (CDT)
*I found this thread with some information on merging databases which might be useful should people decide to have a forum here. Its a nice idea but i dont know if this place really has the demand for a forum right now? --Mercifull 03:29, 26 June 2006 (CDT)

* The main reason I'd be interested in a forum would be as a possible way to get feedback from the "users". As easy as we think it is to edit a talk page, the whole "Wiki edit" system (and the user registration) is really intimidating for a lot of folks that might have some really relevent things to say. I'd like to find some way for the people that primarily read the wiki (rather than edit it) to have a voice. A forum isn't necessarily the only solution for this, but it is one possibility. The danger of the forum, of course, being that wiki-matters might get brought up there and not end up being discussed at the proper location on the wiki as well. The transparency of the decision-making, criticism, communication, etc. is one of the wiki's great strengths, and I would not want to jeopardize that. --Steelviper 08:04, 26 June 2006 (CDT)
**I think thats one of the benefits of these mediawiki modifications for the forum in that you can link very easily to wiki pages. --Mercifull 08:12, 26 June 2006 (CDT)

* I agree with SV. Also, I think that "learning" may be easier through a forum. Like an interactive formatting thread, or a NPOV thread, etc. with questions and answer. --FrankieG 08:14, 26 June 2006 (CDT).

* For God's sake, no. One of the best things about the wiki is that all discussion takes place on talk pages here, and is easily visible by anyone - visitor or editor. I don't want to have to go to an entirely separate site to see discussions. --Peter Farago 14:54, 27 June 2006 (CDT)
:::Peter is correct that the open nature is healthy. Unlike other communities that shall remain nameless (*cough* skiffy *cough*) you get to see all the "deliberations" out in plain sight so there is no confusion as to why an action was taken. That's really refreshing. My biggest argument for an off-wiki means of communication was for giving a voice to those who can't/won't deal with the Wiki-editing UI. Which, theoretically we might be able to overcome through other means (some sort of a "suggestion box" page with a simple text window input, for example). --Steelviper 16:02, 27 June 2006 (CDT)
Style Sheet Completed
The style sheet and new "look" of BSG elements is done. You can view the style here, but their is no content. Once the style sheet is upload to this wiki, I am sure you will see a huge difference along with some major edits to change most of the elemtns into CSS. Myself and Mercifull have been working on this for a while. A "Mediawiki" color look will also be created. We will also create a "Template" page of the new CSS so people know the class of each element that is in the CSS in-case you are not familmar with CSS code. That's about it. The wiki is "open" edit so you can fool around with the new style. The images are not transfered yet (i.e. the new Site images) because I am working on the code to make sure they are loaded differently from the default. No images also work on the site.
: Will this style sheet effort also be taking care of the non-default styles? I understand that the white background one is somewhat popular, as well, and so we'd want to alter the SS that it's working off of to interpret new classes into aesthetically synchronous colors, etc. I applaud the two of your for doing this. I kept wanting to, but was also feeling kind of daunted by the need to support multiple style sheets (that's a lot of CSSing!). --Day (Talk - Admin) 22:46, 24 June 2006 (CDT)
The sketchy numbers in the early few episodes can be accounted for in a few ways. First off, people could have been injured or heavily irradiated in the holocaust and eventually died a few days later. Secondly, people could have been injured/killer during the events of "33". Ron Moore mentions a deleted take where Edward James Olmos improvises a line about "10 suicides", for instance. Thirdly, people could have been counted twice, or not counted at all. If you remember the first couple days after 9/11, it was originally thought that around 6,000 people had died, until the estimates were revised down to 3,000. Given that the only source for the survivor count in the first season is Laura's whiteboard, some inaccuracies are to be expected. ==Rationale for Death Count between "Epiphanies" and "Black Market"==
We conclude that the bomber killed herself in the attack based on the following dialogue:
:Bomber: None of us want to die, but the fighting must end. If my sacrifice sends a signal to the Cylon that brings peace, then it was worth it. I do this for my children, and for the children that will follow them. Gods willing, demand peace, demand peace!
And that at least two civilians were killed based on this:
:Adama: People are dead.
So at least two people died in total as a result of the attack. It seems unlikely that Adama included the suicide bomber in this count, which puts the total death toll at the bomber and at least two civilians. --Peter Farago 01:29, 11 February 2006 (EST)

Agreed. Though I must advise against actually basing theories on all of this. I mean it's just a way of keeping track of the current number of humans: in Season 1 the numbers changed around a lot; remember that point when like 30 people died with no apparent explanation? I mean, jumps of 20-50 people might be pushing it, but when it comes to changes of around just 4-5 people, this can be offset by newborn babies, and conversly, the number that have died could be augmented by those civilians dying of more everyday means in the Fleet (murder, poor medical supplies, industrial accidents, etc.) I'm just saying: It was never a perfectly tuned system to begin with.--The Merovingian 01:50, 11 February 2006 (EST)
Analysis on Baltar's Initial Projections is Off
In The Captain's Hand, where Baltar gives Roslin the fleet projections, the analysis erroneously goes on to state 7.5 deaths per day as a part of the fleet projections. That is a perspective, and it's off. Give Baltar credit enough to factor the known deathrate of 2.1 a day; ultimately leading to 62 years to total annihilation.

It is to my understanding that 18 years is how long it would be where the survivors would no longer be able to repopulate humanity. That is my initial thought, and what makes the most sense. From there the remaining survivors would simply live out the rest of their days or be killed, ending all of known humanity. Which, by the given analysis of 2.1 a day is 62 years.

The 18 years factor should not be used with the given analysis of 2.1 a day versus the erroneous 7.5 a day. That 7.5 does not match the deathrate from Season 1 to end of Season 2. --AJFederation 01:42, 23 July 2006 (CDT)

::Ditto. I use a Mac laptop. A Mac's higher resolution means that we usually see a website in a not-so-flattering manner. In the case of a screen saver, it would be best to offer one that works in the wider dimensions that all LCD Macs offer. == Season 3 Teaser ==
Eureka has already been shown, and the teaser for Season 3 has been seen. There is nothing updated about this on the entire site. Not even mentioned on SciFi.com's Galactica site.

No details about the teaser. No locations online to see it. Further, near complete absence of discussion about it, as well as what the teaser concludes to some of the ideas posted about Season 3. It's new information, and allows plenty of speculation. I am not Wiki experienced to know exactly how these things are put in place. So what should be done here?

Is it not fair to assume that the images and dialogue in the teaser should be added in some way to the Season 3 page? Shouldn't there be an update in Fleet news about it, as well as a link to see the trailer online?
I thought, since we link Memory Alpha, that it might be appropriate to link the Wookieepedia, seeing as how it's another huge Wiki about a popular SciFi universe (or Space Opera, but let's not split hairs). == Proposal to Open Wiki to Unregistered Users ==

Comments on the main page project page. --Shane (T - C - E) 12:50, 24 June 2006 (CDT)
