'Terry Carter is an American actor who portrayed Colonel Tigh in the original Battlestar Galactica.

Born December 16 in Brooklyn, New York, Terry Carter has had a distinguished career in television, film and theater. Carter already had many credits in theater and radio before becoming one of the privates of Sergeant Bilko's platoon in the 1950's Phil Silvers Show. In that role, he was one of the few African-Americans appearing on TV screens in the United States in the 1950s.

In the mid-1960s, Carter worked as a newscaster for WBZ-TV in Boston and then as a commercial spokesman for Standard Oil. Later, he was cast as Gail Fisher's husband, policeman Marcus Fair, in a flashback episode of Mannix.

By the 1970s, Carter was becoming a familiar face on TV, appearing in dramas such as The Streets of San Francsico. In a recurring role on McCloud, Carter worked up from Sargeant in the first episode right up to Chief in the 1989 McCloud reunion movie.

In 1978, he was cast in Battlestar Galactica, as Colonel Tigh, Lorne Greene's second in command.

Since his Galactica days, Carter has been directing and producing, as well as creating training programs.

These days, Carter resides in Norway with his wife.

Terry Carter reprised his role as Tigh in the Richard Hatch produced Trailer, Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming.
