The Guatrau was the title of the leader of the Ha'la'tha crime syndicate on Caprica.

Fifty-eight years before the Fall of the Twelve Colonies, the Guatrau of the time lived and conducted business in Caprica City, relying on enforcers like Sam Adama. The Guatrau also paid for law school for Sam's brother, Joseph Adama, who later provided legal defense and other services for the Ha'la'tha. The Guatrau personally met with Joseph to convince him to threaten then Minister of Defense Val Chambers. The Guatrau then promised Joseph that he was committed to finding the perpetrators of the MLMT bombing that recently claimed Adama's wife and daughter (CAP: "Pilot").

Some months later, the Guatrau met with Daniel Graystone at the wealthy industrialist's behest. With the aid of both Adama brothers, the Guatrau entered into a mutually beneficial alliance with Daniel, offering to help him regain control of his company, Graystone Industries, in return for profit made from Daniel's newest venture — virtual avatars of dead people (CAP: "Unvanquished").

Despite his dealings with Daniel Graystone, the Guatrau was personal friends with Tomas Vergis of the Vergis Corporation (CAP: "Pilot", "Know Thy Enemy"). However, once Vergis discovered that the Ha'la'tha were behind Graystone's reappointment as CEO of Graystone Industries, Vergis forced Graystone to help commit suicide (CAP: "Things We Lock Away").

Through his daughter, Fidelia Fazekas, the Guatrau later discovers that Joseph and Sam Adama are smuggling U-87 Cyber Combat Units to resistance fighters on Tauron. The pained Guatrau ordered Fazekas to kill the Adama brothers — this resulted not in their deaths, but in the death of Willie Adama (CAP: "The Heavens Will Rise", "Here Be Dragons"). The Adama brothers sought retribution for Willie's murder and, in order to avoid an all out conflict with the Ha'la'tha, manage to convince Fazekas into a coup. This coup resulted in the execution of the Guatrau during what was to be a meeting between the two parties, and Fazekas assumed the role of the Guatrau (CAP: "Aptheosis".
