Giles is a friendly, short, but easy to anger Viper pilot who was infected with the mysterious virus brought back by Lieutenant Boomer and Flight Sergeant Jolly. (Lost Planet of the Gods) He was fond of alcoholic beverages and gambling, like Lieutenant Starbuck. (The Lost Warrior) When Cadet Cree was deemed MIA, Giles was sent to pack his items, however Lieutenant Starbuck forcibly managed to convince Giles to not pack Cree's personal effects. (Gun on Ice Planet Zero)

Gun on Ice Planet Zero saw the last appearance of Larry Manetti as Giles. Manetti went on to do Magnum, P.I as Orville "Rick" Wright and The Duke as Joe Cadillac.
Giles was apparently intended as a recurring role.
