Additional Information

Daru Mozu, also known as Refinery 322[1] and operating under Tauranian registry, is the Fleet's tylium refinery ship. Refinery ships process raw minerals and metals gathered by a mining ship. Unlike a mining ship, a refinery vessel has large processing and storage facilities, and can serve as a fueling vessel. In the storage compartments small excavators and chutes are used to move the raw, granular tylium to long conveyor belts on the lower decks. There manual labor is involved in refining it to a liquid fuel, but the exact further process is unknown.

After the Fall of the Twelve Colonies it is found by Boomer's recon Raptor and brought to Roslin's amassing civilian fleet (Miniseries).

The Daru Mozu is used to process the immense reserves of tyllium mined from an asteroid liberated from a Cylon base (The Hand of God).

Following President Roslin's imprisonment and Col. Tigh's subsequent declaration of martial law, the crew refuses to continue refining tylium in protest (Resistance).

The ship is damaged in a collision with the Striker under the incompetent oversight of recently promoted Captain George Birch, Galactica's CAG in Lee Adama's absence (Home, Part I).

A suicide bomber who was part of a Cylon peace movement damages the forward section of the Daru Mozu, killing several of its crew (Epiphanies).

The Daru Mozu is the site of a short-lived, but large labor strike threatening to spill over to other vessels in the Fleet. Its workers complain that they have been working nearly non-stop since the original Cylon attack, with no chance of taking leaves or advancing to other jobs. Moreover, many of the workers are minors, who have been taught the work by their parents. Since tylium is vital for mankind's survival, President Roslin and Admiral Adama immediately arrest the strike leader and threaten drastic measures to end the strike. Chief Tyrol takes up their cause and is able to negotiate improvements in the working conditions, like a rotation of workers with other ships, even though that results in involuntary conscription (Dirty Hands).

Notes[edit]

  • The Daru Mozu isn't identified by name until "Epiphanies" and earlier episodes just call it "refinery ship", but dialogue - especially from the episode "Dirty Hands" - continually refers to it in the singular. Combined with visual evidence, this indicates that the same ship is meant.
  • In "Home, Part I" the ship is referred to as "refueling tanker", but the configuration of the ship is identical to Daru Mozu.
