After an ecological disaster purported to be created by technology, the tribes of humanity fled outward to the stars. Twelve tribes of man eventually passed through a [[magnetic void]] and settled on a star system of 12 planets, which would be later known as the [[Colonies]]. ([[Lost Planet of the Gods]]) A thirteenth tribe made another Exodus to a planet known as Earth.

During their reign on the Colonies, the 12 tribes warred and fought for resources; eventually, they created the [[Cylons (RDM)|Cylons]], a race of mechanical creatures with a humanoid form. By eventual design, the human race became dependant upon these mechanised creations for manufacturing, maintenance, and servitude of the human race -- the Cylons were even used to war against their fellow man.
